Without further ado, Mike, please introduce our special guest. All right, everyone. Please join me in welcoming a creator who has perfected the art
Starting point is 00:02:06 of letting old school retro nostalgia with cutting edge technology. He's a skilled photographer, creator, artisan, and we all strive to have his fraction, just a fraction of his eye for entrepreneurship and perfected RGB, as you can tell in the background. Please give a warm welcome to the one and only Peg City 8bit. Peggy City or T, can you please introduce yourself to our audience and tell us what you're all about. Yeah, for sure. Thanks guys. Thanks for the introduction. Thanks for having me. For those of you who don't know me, names T, aka Pegsy, Apet. I'm a Canadian creator based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Started my journey a couple years back doing Game Boys and Retro contents,
Starting point is 00:02:44 and then over the last few years have transitioned into PCs and tech and kind of just kind to go on that way, started to work with NXT back in January and just doing some fun stuff. But yeah, we'll get some questions and all that and we'll kind of go through all the rim and roll. But it's a little rundown on me for now. Yeah. So we're going to kind of start as kind of like from the beginning of like, you know, where this idea and this passion for gaming and tech and photography kind of started. So first off, let's start with gaming. I mean, apparently your first console was an NES.
Starting point is 00:03:19 So how did you start gaming on this thing? Was it like a friend's the console? Was it a family members? And what games were you playing on this? Yeah. So first console I ever played was an NES. First council ever owned was a Super Nintendo. But it was my uncle.
Starting point is 00:03:34 So he's only a few years older than me. Like maybe, I mean, I say a few years. He's about 12 years older than me. So he had an NES and it was, I guess, at my grandmother's place. And then, yeah, not a ton of games like Super Mario Bros. Duck Hunt. Dragon Warrior was another one we had, Legend of Zelda. So like not a ton of games
Starting point is 00:03:54 So like I've over the years just played like a ton of Super Mario Bros because we didn't really have anything else But yeah I played a ton of Super Mario and then I might have been like six maybe seven And then got into Super Nintendo and kind of the same thing there Super Mario World Yoshi's Island donkey Kong country Those classics and then didn't have a ton of games So like I played you know those a tonne
Starting point is 00:04:19 So front to back, like I can beat Super Mario World in like a couple hours. If I want to just get from like the beginning to Bowser and just beat it, I can beat it like half an hour. I thought in Canada they called it Super Luigi World and Super Luigi Bros. No. No, that's a we thing. That's a we thing. That's new school stuff, I guess. That's new school stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:41 But there is like there's two versions of it, right? There's a Super Mario like new Super Mario world for Wii. And then there's the Luigi version, which is the same game. just the main character is Luigi. Gotcha. So the first console you owned was the S&S. Was Super Mario World the first game that you actually played on that? I want to say I played Yoshi's Island first.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I don't know how that works. I definitely didn't get it at launch, but I think I played Yoshi's Island first and then and then played Super Mario World. Which did you prefer the NES or S&ES? I definitely have more playtime in, super nes like just just due to time but like i like the way like the super nintendo control is my favorite controller like ever just the way it fits in your hand it's got like the rounded edges and everything like that the nes is like it's i don't it's sharp right it's all
Starting point is 00:05:35 it's a rectangle so um yeah no like the super nintendo controller has always been like even when i'm playing like games on uh like on pc that are like more like retro feeling or whatever like I'll play on it at NES control or S-NES controller. Wow. Gotcha. Yeah. So basically you basically grew up, you know, in this 90s era and you kind of now describe yourself as a retro gaming enthusiast.
Starting point is 00:06:08 So do you think, like what do you think is like the definitive like game that really like kind of sparked that lifelong interest into gaming and retro. And gaming and retro? Like, I don't know. So it was like growing up, it was me, like, I have a younger sister and then I've got four cousins. So like we grew up like just controller hopping, right? Because it was like, I mean, back then it was just two players if you were lucky. But a lot of games weren't two players.
Starting point is 00:06:41 So really like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong country were really the only two player games that we really. the only two-player games that we really had. And, you know, we used to rent, you know, the games, but you get them for two days. It's like, you've got the weekend to play as much of this as you possibly can. So I think just like that family atmosphere, just like, you know, who's the best and how can you, you know, beat your cousins and whatever. So we did that, like, a lot. Like, we spent like the whole summer at Grandpa's Place and like, we, like, every, you know, a couple of days we're going back to the video store. We're grabbing new games.
Starting point is 00:07:11 So, like, we played a ton of Super Nintendo, like the N60. Four wasn't really a thing until like the late 90s, right? It came out in 97. So like from 94, 95 when we were, you know, four or five years old until like the early 2000s, like we only had like four or five, six games on Super Nintendo. So like we just played the crap out of those until we were blue in the face. So even now, you know, 30 years later, I'm like, people like, what's your favorite super Nintendo game?
Starting point is 00:07:40 I'm like, Super Mario World. It's just like I've got the most play time. I can play it front to back. I can just like sit and shut. and play it and it's it's not even like a thing it's not like oh it's you know this this is this game I never beat and I I'll sit down and play I did play it at work the other day because one of the guys was like oh you can't beat this in half an hour and I'm like sit watch me and I beat it before we were done our lunch break he's like how what is happening is he like what
Starting point is 00:08:05 he went back and I called him in and I was like hey check this out credits or rolling he's like this that's not a thing like what do you mean you beat it I'm like yeah like we're done Like, here you go. If you had to guess, like, how many times do you think you have played through Super Mario? Like, if you could think of a number. Super Mario World, like, front to back, like, every exit, every level, like, a handful of times. Like, maybe it does it, like, front to back. Like, in terms of, like, started a new game and, like, played it until I got bored, like, I don't know, like, 150, 200 times at least.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Like, but I mean, I'm also like, I'm in my mid-30s, right? So like that really isn't a lot, but like there's 96 levels in that game. So it's like that's, that's, I play, you know, 9,000 levels. Like, it's a lot when you really think about it. But 150 times to be a game front to back. Like isn't really a lot, but I can't think of too many games that people played nearly 200 times. I'm sure if the SNES was able to track hours like Steam does,
Starting point is 00:09:14 you'd probably be like holy cow oh yeah I don't know if I'd want to see just thousands and thousands of hours clocked in Super Barrier World. It's like what's your top game? World Warcraft? No, Superman. Oh, Super Nintendo.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yeah. Did your interest in tech come first or did gaming, gaming playing like on SNES and all this kind of? They kind of go hand in hand to be honest. So like gaming came first. And I think that just came from like I said, like my uncle having a Super Nintendo and kind of just like having something to do. But growing up, my dad actually built computers.
Starting point is 00:09:55 So like I at a very young age was very interested in tech and computers and just like knowing, you know, like how to use a computer. Because like what, you know, six year old needs to know how to use a computer. But I would say by the time I was like 12, like I knew more about computers than the average adult. And then by the time I was like 13, 14, I'm like, this is back when you could burn CDs, you know? So it was like I was going to school with blank CDs. And it's like, yeah, like write your playlist down on the piece of paper and put it in the CDs, CDs five bucks. I'm hustling mixed CDs that had grade school in like grade five and six. So it was like, yeah, people writing down their playlist.
Starting point is 00:10:32 And, you know, I got to go and I'm going to download all the songs on, you know, Napser or whatever. And then burn them their CD and bring them their burnt CD back to school. So, yeah, like the two kind of go had and had because like my dad, was super involved in tech and kind of just like kept up with all that stuff. And then like over the years like now like I'm the tech guy and he's like, I don't know how any of this stuff works. And I'm like, okay, well, like, how far did you get? And he's like, my TV doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:10:56 I mean, did you plug it in? Like the TV is so simple these days. Just like unplug it and plug it back in again. It'll come back. And he's like, no, like, I'm just going to, I'm going to go back to watching DVDs. And like, okay, we do whatever you want all that. It's fine. But yeah, no, the two go hand in hand.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Gaming definitely started first. And then, uh, My parents don't really game, so it was very just like me, my sister, my cousins that were kind of into that stuff. But my dad's been into tech as long as I can remember. Nice. And I also know that part of your love for tech is with photography. How did you get interested in photography?
Starting point is 00:11:36 So I took photography in high school. So not in this. world at all, which is very like, by the book photography, this is how you shoot. This is like how you light stuff. Like they don't teach you really any of like this. Like how do you shoot RGB? Because there is no playbook for it. So yeah, that's how I got into photography.
Starting point is 00:12:01 And then I started working with a few photographers just through working in nightclubs and things like that. So a lot of the nightclub photographers here are also like professional photographers that do like model work and magazine work and stuff like that, which is kind of neat. So I had the opportunity while I was in high school to work with a few photographers. So fast forward to me getting into like the content space. And I'm like, I have a camera and I know how to use it. Like, why am I shooting pictures with my phone?
Starting point is 00:12:33 So I like, I think my dad had my camera at the time. And I was like, hey, like, I need my camera back. Like, he's like, okay, here, come get it. And I bought a 50 millimeter lens. And then from there, I was like, Kate, like, I'm going to now transition from shooting all my photos on my phone to shooting all my photos on my camera. So I did that. And then I basically was doing, I was shooting Game Boys and stuff at the time. But did that, lock that kind of in as much as I could.
Starting point is 00:13:00 And then my like milestone goal for myself is when I hit 10K, I was buying a new camera. This is before Instagram like, you know, fell apart. But like I did at one point hit 10K. So I hit 10K, bought myself a new camera, which is this camera I'm using now. So I bought the Canon M200. It was regular like 600 bucks. I got it on Facebook marketplace for like $300 or something like that. And then I've just been kind of buying lenses over the last couple of years.
Starting point is 00:13:30 So like I shoot everything on either a manual prime or vintage prime. So none of my lenses have auto focus. None of my lenses like do any like crazy zoom or anything. Everything is manual aperture, manual focus. So we're doing that for the last couple of years. But yeah, kind of fell into photography by fluke and then fell back in love with photography when I kind of got back into content creation because your phone can do a lot, but it can only do so much. And then, you know, you're kind of limited by your creativity by what your phone can do.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And obviously, like, some phones have manual modes and pro modes and things like that. But there's still a limitation there. And yeah, I switched to a camera and I like my next limitation is it like I don't have a full frame camera. And it's like I don't have five grand to buy a new camera. So we'll make do with. We'll make do with this until I absolutely like need a new camera. But yeah, that's kind of how I got into photography. And then I've just like picked it back up and talk myself out of.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Mike, send him five grand after the show. Got it. Got that. Yeah, I'll send you an invoice for it. It's all good. Easy. Easy. One of the things that really stands out to me with your content on Instagram is, it's like a lot of this.
Starting point is 00:14:50 You pull that photo out of the Instagram graveyard. It's like a lot of low light photography, right? Do you think that your experience working nightclubs kind of led you to these? Led me to dealing in the low light? Yes and no. I've always preferred low light photography. Why? Because it's harder to shoot.
Starting point is 00:15:18 I think that's like it seems like such a simple answer, but like it is, it's harder to shoot. Not everyone can do it and not everyone is good at it. So I wanted to be good at it. So I've forced myself to shoot in the dark. There's no, like there's no lights in here. Like, oh, you can't even see it. I was like, there's a window there, but it's like, it's, this big and not a lot of light comes through that window.
Starting point is 00:15:42 So I've made my setup look like it was shot during the day. I've perfected the art of shooting in the dark. But yeah, it's harder to do it. And I think that that in itself is its own kind of achievement. And is that like people will do, you know, day mode, light mode. And I'm like, oh, you just close the blinds. Like you didn't you didn't do anything. My sub is very difficult to emulate because no one really shoots in the dark.
Starting point is 00:16:14 So I'm shooting anything in the dark, not even just a set-out, like shooting, you know, whether it be Game Boys or products, whatever. Like it needs to be lit a certain way to look a certain way, right? And like a lot of people can't do it. So in the dark to a lot of people is just like, oh, like there's no lights. I'm like, no, no, no, like there's, it's bright in here right now. I can promise you that. It just looks dark in here.
Starting point is 00:16:36 But it is very, very. bright in here I can I can you can rest assured that it's not a dark so yeah why do I shoot in there because it's harder to do basically like it's it's just like a little problem to solving you're trying to fix it oh 100% like all like like the lights in front of me aren't on if I turn them on like this scene gets like it it looks funny right but like the like my lines are on which are over here and then like if I turn even just this off, right? Like, it changes the scene.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Like, it just, like, now it looks flat. Right? But now it's back on. And, like, this light hits all of that. So, like, it hits the shelf on both sides. It's little thing. So, actually, I kind of had a quick question. So, you talked about certain lenses.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Right. I saw that you have, like, a 17, a 25, and a 50-mill. Like, what draws you to be using these specific lenses? To using certain lenses? Yeah. Okay. So I'll break down kind of like all my lenses are actually on my desk. So like I'll kind of break it.
Starting point is 00:17:44 So the 17. So I bought the 7th. This is the C.S17 from TT Artisan. It's a 1.4 millimeter lens. I bought this because a 16 millimeter sigma lens is like $400. So I needed a six. I needed a 16 millimeter lens that I could fit my setup in in the shot is basically what I needed it for. this lens is $150.
Starting point is 00:18:10 So there's that, right? The lens I'm using right now is a 25mm 1.6 from newer. So I needed something that was a little bit tighter. This lens, again, like I wanted something that was cheap and affordable, which is kind of something that I've really tried to focus on as far as buying new lenses. Is like, can the average person afford the lens that I'm going to buy and then show showcase so that it's worth them buying. Because a lot of people will buy new lenses like, yeah, like I got this new lens, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:42 the new Sony Gmaster, whatever, whatever. And it's like, yeah, like that's a $600 lens or a $700 lens or a $3,000 lens and like the average person is not about to go and fork out $3,000 for a new camera lens. So like there's that. This guy, which is probably one of my favorite lenses right now is like the Rye Sprye is a 35 millimeter 1.6. I got this on Ali Express. this lens was 25 bucks and it's probably one of my favorite lenses.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Yeah, it's one of those things. I just like I'll go and I'll try and find cheap lenses that are decent looking and it's like, is it worth my time? If I think it's worth my time, it might be worth your time. But as far as like why I choose 35mm, it's a little bit tighter. The focus on it is pretty tight so I can get pretty close without having to worry about like auto
Starting point is 00:19:40 like chromation or cremation or anything like that I have like six different 50s so like asking me like which 50 50s are like what the human eye sees right for the most part so if you're on a full fame camera a 50 millimeter would be what you would see
Starting point is 00:19:58 looking at something so most 35 millimeter cameras have a 50 millimeter lens on them I have too many 50s so I have too many 50s so I I have, this is a 55. So I got a 55. I have a 49. I got a 58.
Starting point is 00:20:17 And then I have like three other 50s that are around, but I have lots. How different is like a 49 to a 55 and a 58? It's subtle. It's subtle enough to like I'll switch switch from a 55 to a to a 49. Like it's subtle, but it's subtle enough. But like different lenses and different like manufacturers, like the lens itself, like the image looks different. Like even switching from like a 50 to a 55, like that five, like it's five millimeters, right? Like it's like that's nothing.
Starting point is 00:20:48 It's half a centimeter. But like the lens produces a different image. So yeah, like I'll switch lenses just based on kind of what I'm trying to shoot. And like I've gotten to the point now where I know, you know, I'll start all my shots probably with either the 25 that's on here. here or the 35 was kind of how I shoot all at least my reels anyway. So I do everything. I try to get at least one shot with each focal range. So I try to do 25, a 35, a 17, a 50.
Starting point is 00:21:21 And then I'll have, you know, that's four shots. Okay, cool. Like set the next shot. Can I get the same framing and just change lenses? Right? Because like that's technically three different shots. I think the photos I posted today is the, 17 to 35 to 49 and the 25.
Starting point is 00:21:39 Interesting. So then you kind of used your photography skills to kind of start making content. Like I have one of the first like photos I have here is of from retro modding. It was the Pokemon and tidal wave. Yeah. So like how did you decide to start utilizing your photography and like meshing it with your passion for retro? For retro? So when I got into like the retro gaming community, so like late 2019, early 2020, like I started it and I just wanted to showcase like, like flea market finds.
Starting point is 00:22:17 And I was just like, oh, like this is the stuff I got from the flea market. Like isn't it? Cool. Like very much like Ariel from the little murmurs. Like, look at my junk. And then fast forward. And I'm like, no, like there's a community here. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:29 So by the time you get to like this point where now I'm like working with retro modding and stuff. I'm just like, how do you shoot Gameboys and make them look cool? What's really what it started as? So, like, even this, like this whole, like, shooting in the dark thing, like, this, like, this became a trend in the Game Boy community because, like, I said, like, no one else could do it and, like, do it right. So it became a thing where it was like hashtag shoot like Peg City, which you may or may not have researched and found, but, like, that was a thing for, like, the better part of, like,
Starting point is 00:23:03 a month or two where everyone was trying to shoot their photos in the dark. And like some people had like nailed it. I've got a buddy who like he's like yeah, like I get it. Like it's way more fun to shoot in the dark and it's significantly harder. You flick lights on and anyone can shoot pictures, right? That's why point and shoot cameras exist in my, you know, Polaroids and disposable cameras. It's like it's meant to just go outside and take pictures and like anyone can do it.
Starting point is 00:23:29 You take that same camera and you put it in the dark and like good good luck. All right, I'll into this podcast in the dark now. I'll just look. Yeah, it looks great. You see your camera can't even focus. Your camera's freaking out. Turn off your lights, Mike. The issue is I'm making it.
Starting point is 00:23:49 This whole thing behind the big window there. So the other thing that really stands out to me about you, is not even anything to do with your content, but it's actually your name. You know, when I first saw the name, Peg City 8-bit, I was like, all right, I understand the 8-bit part, but what the heck is Peg City? I had no idea until the NZXT Research Department, aka Mike here, told me, hey, I think Peg City means he's from Winni, Winnipeg, and then sure enough, you know, we found out that you are from Winnipeg. Yeah. So since, you know, the name Pegg City is such a, you know, focus of your identity, are there any like things
Starting point is 00:24:34 from Winnipeg that you try to weave into your your content here into my content so back in I want to say it was was it when no winter winter of 2020 or winter 2019
Starting point is 00:24:53 one of the two I did like a city tour and I went around and shot like a bunch of game boys around the city and like it was originally the plan was like to do that like more often and then like when it takes cold in the winter like like cold so i'm like i'm like i just happen to pick a day i was like i'm going on this day and i'm going to bring six game boys and i'm going to shoot them and i'm going to drive around the city and i'm going to take all these cool pictures and i like i have people who have like bought the images to like uses wallpapers on their phone and stuff so like that was fun so like i did that and then like the day i picked ended up being like the coldest day
Starting point is 00:25:28 of the year. No gloves. Like I don't even think I was wearing a tooth that day. I was like, oh yeah. And like froze to take these pictures. But as far as like integrating Winnipeg into my content, like not really. But stuff like that with like the snow.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Like I'll take Gameboys out in the snow and shoot them. Actually, funny enough, that white Game Boy, I was one of the first people in the world to build an all white Gameboy. So that's pretty cool. Yeah. So up until this point, like there's DMGs that have, like they're white, but then they have writing on the lens. And retromoding is the only place you can get lenses they don't have writing. So when I stumbled into retro modding, I built that guy who became the first snow white DMG in the world.
Starting point is 00:26:17 That looks really cool. So I've never been to Winnipeg. I have no idea what it's like. I never even been to Canada. But I'm curious, like growing up in Canada, you know, did that shape your passions and interests here? Like, is there a lot of, you know, people into retro stuff and photography and things like that over there? Yes and no. Like, I think, like, photography has become more of a thing over the last couple years just, like, with COVID and stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:49 And, like, being able to, like, like, access is different, right? Because you can just, like, shoot on your phone, right? So I think access to cameras and cameras have become like more affordable in the sense that like you can buy a decent mirrorless camera for like $600. Right. Which is like not obscene, but you know 10, 15 years ago like a decent like a decent DSLR or decent mirrorless. You're looking at a couple grand. Right. So I think access has changed that.
Starting point is 00:27:23 But like as far as like communities, based around photography. There's a few groups I never get out to them because they're just like, we're going out this afternoon and I'm like, ah, like that's not happening. You know, family life and being a dad and all that stuff. So like that part's tricky. The retro community here
Starting point is 00:27:41 is like there's fleet markets and there's like, they'll do like a random con every once in a while but like nothing like stable or like consistent. Icon is really big here. Comic con is really big here. but like those are you know once of year events but um like outside of that like as far as i'm aware
Starting point is 00:28:00 anyway there isn't no like big community um based around retro photography probably there's probably groups and stuff but not that they're not none that i'm a part of mike's a wannabe canadian he's like all into hockey he's actually going to play hockey tonight believe it or not in las Vegas of all places yeah i'm not a big sports guy but i get it uh you're not Canadian getting that man you're supposed to be a winning pig Jets fan come on now that's the team right the winning pick yes the Jets the Jets are really good and they're really good too yeah um yeah I guess uh that kind of leads into I'm kind of already showcased a little bit of it but um can you kind of go into how you got working into multiple we have like a
Starting point is 00:28:50 I mean I checked your website and you have like tons of things you're like working with so first one is retro modding which is one of my favorites because it's uh deals with all these like cool d-boys and everything like that like it looks so sick yeah so that shell is actually designed by a friend of mine um i believe pretty sure that was done by james he plays he's a artist out of the uk um so they printed um so that shell's actually printed by a company that was called I can't even remember. They've gone under and the end of that rain was not fun. It was very, very messy.
Starting point is 00:29:32 But how I got started with retro money is like I, like I said, I wanted to build a white DMG. So I've always been into white tech. Like I was, you know, white laptops, white phones, like all that stuff. So when I started getting into like collecting Gameboys and trying to find just like either Gameboys or like old retro consoles or what have you, I was like, is there a place that I can buy the pieces to make this Game Boy white? So start looking into that. At the time, there was like two places. It was Retro Modding, Handheld Legends, and then like the random places on eBay.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Like that was kind of it. So my relationship with RetroModdy actually started as me being a customer, is kind of how it started. So buy my parts, built the Game Boy. And I think I only, originally it was missing something. Oh, no, I built it. So I resheld it. Buttons start, select, all that. I think I built it and within like a week or two,
Starting point is 00:30:33 that's when like the IPS screens were starting to come out, like the backlit screens. So then I had to order that at the time, retro moddy didn't have them. So I had to order it from handheld legends. So I ordered it from handheld legends. Get that, mod it again. So then that's when I was like, okay, cool, it's done. built the first like all white snow snow white DMG got backlit screen in it super clean all good and then just over the years I just kept buying from retro modding fast forward to
Starting point is 00:31:03 2021 2020 2020 2020 at the time they had three ambassadors they were all based in the states retro-moning up until a year ago was based in Montreal. So I said, hey, at this current state in like my content creation career, like, I'm killing the Game Boy space, everyone knows who I am, I'm building those Game Boyes, I follow my parts from you, like, how would you guys feel about signing another ambassador and like, how about signing your first Canadian ambassador as you are a Canadian company? So I pitched them on it and they're like, yeah, like, we like the idea. And then it was just like silence.
Starting point is 00:31:46 And then that was kind of it. Six months later, there's like, hey, so we revisited that idea. We love it. Let's do it. Yeah. And they signed me as their first Canadian ambassador in like a matter of like a week and a half. Oh.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Do you have like a favorite one that you've ever like made? I mean, I've done some pretty cool stuff. So I did. I built 10 Game Boy colors for George Kittle and nine other. San Francisco. Yeah, San Francisco 49ers a few years ago. So I did that in September 21. Those are probably on there somewhere.
Starting point is 00:32:25 But yeah, I built 10 custom Game Boy colors. I had them custom painted. So they were all painted with 49ers colors. I had custom buttons done. And then I had a buddy do custom labels for Easy Flash juniors, which is like a flash card. You can get put all the games on them.
Starting point is 00:32:44 they all had their jersey numbers on them with their name so I had those done so like super super custom set they're all one of a kind and I only did 10 so that was probably like the coolest thing I ever did in terms of gameboys I built a custom purple game boy for nazy who's a VR streamer out in Australia so I did that I built a game boy for an actress name Carrie Meeters who was the lead in bringing on cheer or die, which is a project I worked on back in September 2021. So she bought a Game Boy. I've got the last Airbender, which is a commission that I commissioned from Kiki Stardust. He's an amazing artist out of New Mexico.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Yeah, do I have a favorite? Like, no, like, I love them all. Like, you can kind of see them here. Like, I have, I think the last time we did it count, I have something like 50 custom Game Boys. like it's it's like yeah it's it's a little crazy like I used to win them right like they used to do raffles and stuff and like I'd win them like that cotton candy one I won like I won the little yellow gem thing there and won that um but yeah as far as like a favorite one oh
Starting point is 00:34:01 actually hold on that's a lie ooh he has the show too let's see let's see what he got okay so this guy so this is the stay rad stay weird this is one of a kind uh artist named Jesse, Limit Break Customs. He is based in, no, not Australia. He's based in, what's the other one, New Zealand? Amazing artist. He was a tattoo artist and then COVID happened. And then he decided he was just going to start drawing and doing crazy art stuff and then did a handful of like retro consoles, like nothing crazy. And then I reached out to him and I was like, hey, like, do you want to do a Game Boy? And he's like, yes, let's do it. So we sent me the shell. I built it.
Starting point is 00:34:41 At the time, I had a custom set, like three custom sets of buttons made. So the shell is one of a kind. The buttons are one of the kind. That guy. Yeah. Beautiful. Oh, my gosh. Yaw.
Starting point is 00:34:54 So they're like polychromatic buttons. Like, I don't know if you can see. Yeah, there you go. Look at there. So sick. You're legit making me want to get a Game Boy. I mean, you reach out to me anytime Ivan. I'll hook you up.
Starting point is 00:35:07 All right. I'm going to have to hit you up. My babe Pokemon. I've had some idea too. These look amazing, man. They're freaking awesome. Yeah, there's tons. Like, I mean, I've got that.
Starting point is 00:35:16 I've got, like, yeah, like, I've won a bunch. I've made a bunch, like, giveaways, raffles. Like, yeah. I got tons. It's like, it's borderline, like, between Game Boys and keyboards, like, it's getting out of hat. Like, it's low key. Like, I have nowhere to put them.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Like, I've, keyboards all over the floor because I don't have space. The other retro thing that you're into is actually one of my passions is vinyl records. How did you get into it? How did you get into that? I wanted rec. So I wanted the soundtracks that I played as a kid on vinyl.
Starting point is 00:36:01 So I wanted Donkey Kong country, which I have. I have the first one on vinyl. I wanted Super Mario. world, which is like next to an impossible to find. And then I found it and it's on its way. So I wanted those and then the soundtrack
Starting point is 00:36:21 for Holo Night is like unreal. So I have that on vinyl. So that's how it started and now it's getting mildly out of hand because I've got the toy story vinyl now. I've got like the Yoshi one. I've got the record for Celeste, which is another amazing album. So yeah, it started.
Starting point is 00:36:41 It's just like, oh, I just want a couple vinyl. And then next thing you know, I'm like, so like I'm up the 10 and now I need a crate and like where do I put them? So yeah, no, it started. It's just like, I just want a couple. And then it becomes a very expensive hobby. But which hobby, like any good hobby is expensive. Like find me a hobby that's cheap. Right?
Starting point is 00:37:01 Like, oh, I collect stamps. Yes, but like rare stamps are expensive. So. What? your favorite record so far? So far probably the Donkey Kong country. Like I have
Starting point is 00:37:16 Is it Banana Jams? No, not Banana Jams. I have Does that one have the have the D.K. It goes, My name is D.K. No. Donkey Kong. No, this is like just the
Starting point is 00:37:37 I don't even know what this is. It's not Banana Jams. Jammin. Jammin. I don't know. This guy. But there's three of them. So there's this one.
Starting point is 00:37:49 There's a yellow one and a green one. That's an awesome cover, man. Or a blue one and a green one. Yeah. But yeah, it's just the, it's the the OST for Donkey Home Country. It's got like all the classics, right? Like aquatic ambience is on like side two.
Starting point is 00:38:07 And then you got like the mine cart level. Oh. Just like the theme song. Yeah. So it's like just a chill. and like throw that on. It's like, yeah. Can't get it.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Love it. Oh. This is actually something that, I think Ivan and I actually are also super into. I saw you drinking one right there. Is that congratulations, by the way, on your sober journey. Oh, yeah. Like I,
Starting point is 00:38:34 like I saw this post and you made a resolution in new years of 2019. So that sounds right. What made you decide to, kind of go down that road. Go sober? Honestly, it started. It low-key started as a joke. Okay?
Starting point is 00:38:53 So, um, so coming into 2019, um, like people, okay, so when I went sober, people thought I did it because my wife was pregnant with my first,
Starting point is 00:39:04 like, with my oldest, which is like part of the reason, but like not the reason. So like, I genuinely enjoy the taste of beer, right? So no different than someone who,
Starting point is 00:39:12 like, grab a Coke or whatever and just like, oh yeah, Like, let me drink. Don't throw back six coax. Like, I would grab, you know, a can of beer or whatever and just drink. So, like, you'd catch me drinking beers at, like, the middle of the afternoon just because. So I was like, I could do a year.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Like, what's, what's 365 days? Right. So, so 2019, the goal was just to make it through the year, right? And, like, it was just a lot of people doubting me saying, like, oh, you know, your son's going to be born. And, like, that'll be it. Like, the stress of being your new parent will take you out. And I was like, okay, well, just determination. we're gonna we're gonna do it now so i finished the first year so i finished 2019 sober and then by the time i got
Starting point is 00:39:51 to 2020 i was like i don't i don't need to drink anymore like i'm i'm good all right i used to work in nightclubs i used to party a lot so like to do it i was like i'm good and then also by that time there was like a lot more options available not a lot more there's way more now um way more now and then obviously working at the sober market like there's like everything at my just you know at my disposal but um there's way more options so then i did 2020 and then 2021 and 22 and 24 and we're three quarters of the way through you know 25 and yeah like seven almost seven years into it it's at this point i'm like there's there'd be no there would be no reason for me to start drinking again um i think something pretty big in life would have to
Starting point is 00:40:42 would have to happen like you know one of my kids or my wife dying I think would be probably like the snapping point for me to be like okay like I need a I need a I need a drink but I think just in that in that moment I think I wouldn't just out of principle but I think yeah like for me to like be like nope like I need I think I'd have to snap I think and then you started working with sober you talked a little about this sober market so what is this um yeah so I started Okay, so I stumbled in the working with sobering. It's actually really funny. So I stumbled in the store a couple of times, bought a few things,
Starting point is 00:41:19 and I'd actually pitched them on shooting all of their product photography. So I wanted to shoot all their stuff in the store or because I thought they had like a shop and they don't. At the time, they were just like a pop up inside a store. So it really didn't work at the time. And then they were looking for someone to work in their warehouse and I was like, hey, like, are you guys still hiring? and they were like, yeah. But I love it. So owners are a few years older than me, but like they've got young kids.
Starting point is 00:41:48 I've got young kids. So they get it. So as far as like family work, like life balance, it's been like amazing. But supermarket's awesome. They have, there's five stores. There's like four or five stores in Toronto. There's one over on Richmond Street. There's one on, there's one on Danforth.
Starting point is 00:42:06 There's one on Young Street. There just opened a store a couple weeks ago in Burlington, Ontario. We have a store opening in Vernon, BC, in a couple of weeks. And then there's some other big plans. And then obviously the sopermarket.com. We ship worldwide. So if you guys want to check out the supermarket, feel free. Use code Peg City 8bit 10.
Starting point is 00:42:26 You can get 10% off all of your orders at the sober market. There's a little plug for you guys. Mike and I are actually going to order some beer because we've actually, believe it or not, Mike and I spend a lot of time talking about this. this topic. Well, we probably should be talking about work, but, um, yeah, like Mike and I both, like, like you, you know, used to party a lot, I guess you could say. And then we both decided, you know what?
Starting point is 00:42:57 We should probably see what it's like that's down for a while. Yeah. And, like, we've been sharing like our favorite, like, an A beard. I think for your last birthday, Mike, I say, you like, athletic jewelry 3 12 packs of NA beers to check out so yeah we're big on this too
Starting point is 00:43:16 so we're definitely going to use that promo code and buy so yeah no for sure if I see your name come through I'll definitely I'll switch some stuff out and send you some of my favorite I'll let you know yeah for sure throwing a Gameboy in there with my order
Starting point is 00:43:29 yeah yeah what does you know we'll combine the shipping we'll make it work but yeah no there's tons like there's like beer aside right Right. Like even the like wine is tricky and like I think will forever be tricky because like there's there's so many complexities with wine Like you you can get good wine. You just have to pay for it right so if like a lot of people all why you know non-alcoholic wine tastes like grape juice Yeah, if you buy an eight dollar bottle of non-alcoholic wine then it's gonna taste like grape juice but like you buy a $60 bottle of non-alcoholic wine
Starting point is 00:44:02 Now we're getting somewhere right so like there's that Spirits, like, you're not looking for like a one-to-one replica. You're looking for something that mix as well and can be made into some type of cocktail. So Captain Morgan is coming back in the next couple of weeks. You didn't hear it for me. Tankerate also coming back in the next couple of weeks. You also didn't hear that for me. But like those are top sellers and like those in a drink are almost one to one.
Starting point is 00:44:31 they're very, very, very close. But if you're looking for like that burn and you're looking, you know, for it to taste like you're drinking alcohol, like that's not what they're there for. They're there for, you know, the experience and that flavor profile, like those have been perfected pretty well. But as far as like, I want to like feel like I'm, you know, drinking acid, like that's not. Right.
Starting point is 00:44:53 Like wherever the social side of it, right? It's like, I want to build a mix a drink at Christmas and, you know, cheers my family. And it's not like not being left out. And it's like, oh, I'm just drinking at Coca-Cola. It's like, I'll mix a mean whiskey, whiskey, rum, you know, or rum and coke at Christmas. And, like, people are like, what's in this? And I'm like, it's non-al captains. And they're like, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:45:17 You know, I've made margaritas for people in the summer. And they're like, there's no tequila in here. I'm like, no, though, there's tequila. There's just no alcohol. They're like, it tastes like there's alcohol in here. I'm like, no, it tastes like there's tequila in it. There's tequila in it. It's just not alcohol.
Starting point is 00:45:30 So like that's been fun because it's like being able to expose people to it. Like I'll bring a 12 of non-ilk beers to a party or whatever. Like what are you drinking? And I'm like, oh, I'm drinking whatever beer I brought. And they're like, oh, that's different. And I'm like, yeah, like, do you want one? And then people are like, okay, where do I get these? Right?
Starting point is 00:45:49 And people are placing orders for beer at the party. And I'm just like, I'm ordering 12 right now. I'm like, okay. Like do you? But yeah, no, it's opened up like a crazy world because it's like, Like I said, like there, when I went sober, there was very, very few options. It was, you know, Corona and then like the zero alcohol, like the zero Heineken had like just come out. So, like that was really it.
Starting point is 00:46:10 And now like there's like I'm working a warehouse that's got 850 skews. Like I'm like there's there's so much. There's a lot. There's a lot. And a lot of times like I'll drink one and I'm like I'll have to double check to make sure it's not alcoholic because it tastes exactly like. It's so good. Well, so we were sent samples from this brand and the label looks identical. So there's two, they have two beers.
Starting point is 00:46:36 They have like an alcohol version and non-alph version. The label is identical other than the fact that one says 0.5 and once is like 5.0. These beers have been sitting on my boss's desk for like three months. And I'm like, I'm drinking one. So I put them both. There was two. I put them both in the fridge today. This happened.
Starting point is 00:46:53 This is today. Put them both in the fridge. And then we're leaving. And I go to grab one. And then he's like, you can't drink. that. And I'm like, what do you mean? I'm like, it's the right spirit. It's fine. And he's like, that has alcohol in it. I was like, whoa,
Starting point is 00:47:06 that would have been fun. So I was going to crack it on the way home and just like a drink. And he was like, yeah, no, no, no, no, no. He's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like that. Yeah, wrong one. Good call. Good call. Because that would have been, that would have been fun. Like, I would have to text you now, but I don't feel so good. Those beers aren't good. He's like, no, you're, you're drunk, my friend. Like, yeah. So, yeah. What have you noticed?
Starting point is 00:47:30 What have you noticed has been the biggest change in this entire sobriety journey for you, for you. Dude, I'm so far into it. It's just like a regular day now. Migraines hit hard. Like, a migraine when you're sober is like, this is what a hangover feels like. Like, I don't miss like that heavy head feeling like being, like not being able to like pick my head up off the pillow and stuff like that. Like I think like that's like that clarity is like I don't miss that like at all. like at all at all like being too drunk to remember the night before being you know too drunk
Starting point is 00:48:06 to walk like all like all like the all of the prom the pro like the cons that come with you know heavy drinking and partying i'm like i don't i don't miss that like at all you know i miss the people when i worked at nightclubs obviously it was the money but like yeah like they're not being able to like do anything the next day or for the next multiple like i don't keep that. You should start your own nightclub called Peg City 8bit. Okay. So I would tell.
Starting point is 00:48:39 If we get a chance to talk yet, I'll tell you about it. Because if I say it on air, someone's going to steal it. And then I'm not going to do. But I have an idea for a nightclub. It's actually pretty cool. Okay. I can't say it on air. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Yeah. Someone's going to be like, so I stole this idea from this guy. His name's Pepsi APEC from Winnipeg, Manitoba. It's genius. It opens next month. Like, yeah, so it's funny you say that because I have had an idea for like the better part of like 10, 15 years. And I'm like, it could work. And it would work in a city like Winnipeg because like we've done, we've done all of the, all the themes of it.
Starting point is 00:49:21 We've just never put them together. Okay. Very interesting. I'm curious. Mike, I will have to. steal that idea from you off the air then i mean if it goes live and the first one pops up in california i'm making a trip down but no i yeah like i've had an idea as far as like what i would do and like it it never it never waivers from that and like yep nope like that would that would still be
Starting point is 00:49:48 that would still be it so i kind of wanted to ask you like as of recently like can you walk us through a day and a life of like creating pieces of pieces of content like you know you know uh made like shooting one of these like retro uh consoles or shooting one of these like cool like videos of your your your setup and everything like that can you like walk us through how you do this so okay so that video in particular like the charlie x x x x x x is it was a trend on ticot and it was like i could do this but it was like it was like not a nice trend. Like it was like the videos I was pulling the audio off of for like very like body negative and like I'm you know I'm ugly. Oh I'm beautiful today and I was like, okay, what if I just like an on
Starting point is 00:50:41 off transition and I use the audio to like capture it. If you watch that with audio like it loops. So it like it's very like strategic. I'm I pride myself on being very very good at transition videos because the secret is that nothing can move. Everything needs to stay in the same spot. And I've, you know, I've watched creators try to do it. A lot of people are either using a tripod or they're using their phone. And then because you're using a phone, your focus will change. And like little things like that, like if you move anything, like when it focuses the second
Starting point is 00:51:17 time, like that shot's not the same, right? So your frames don't overlap. I honestly pick my audios first, which a lot of creators don't do. they shoot and then they edit and then they pick audio that matches their video. I pick audio and then I shoot for the audio. So I mean, that one in particular is easy because it's like it's, it's like six shots or seven shots, eight shots, something like that. But I have to shoot every shot twice, right?
Starting point is 00:51:46 Because I can't move anything. I have to turn all the lights on. I turn them all on. I got to shoot it. And then I have to turn them off and I'm going to shoot it again. Right. So you're going to do that. So like to shoot something like that, like the real itself is eight seconds long.
Starting point is 00:52:01 It's like I'm in here for an hour and a half shooting it. Right. It's like, oh, how long does that take you? It's like an hour and a half. And it's like, what do you mean? It's eight seconds long. And it's like not only is it eight seconds long, there's 10 minutes worth of footage. Like, why did it take you so long?
Starting point is 00:52:17 Well, I've got to have to shoot it. I got to set everything up. I got to move it. Shoot it again. Then I got to turn everything off. I got to shoot it again. then i'm gonna move it i turn everything back on i got shoot it so it's like the process itself um but yeah i i shoot to music and not the other way around so like everything for the most part is uh
Starting point is 00:52:37 like i don't like plan i don't do storyboards anything like that i'm just like um you know what are we shooting how do i want it to look um because i shoot with certain lenses i already know that certain lenses are going to require a certain shot or certain angle um i have like call them stable angles that I shoot from and things like that so yeah I don't like really unless I need to like unless it's something like like a talking head like the nzxtee player player two video like that one is like I shot it so I do all the talking head I shoot all of it and then I shoot all the B roll for it so like okay that shot I shot six times because I kept forgetting to turn so the monitor in the background I kept leaving
Starting point is 00:53:26 resolve open on the monitor so like you could if you like I'll send you the rock clip later it's actually really funny um you can see like the the audio recording in the background and then I shot it and I went and I went to go watch it back and I was like no and then I went to go shoot it the second time or maybe I only shot it three times um I went to go shoot it again and I did it again and I was like you're kidding me so then I did it a third time I haven't, I'm like, okay, there's nothing on the screen. But I'll shoot the whole A roll for that. So I shoot the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:53:59 So like this is technically, like it's two shots. So I shoot this shot where I'm sitting in the box. I was not happy about it, but it's fine. So I shoot that. Then I shoot the A roll where I'm actually like talking to the camera. So I shot that part. And then once that's done, then I shoot all the B roll. So the unboxing, you know, taking out of the box, the PC.
Starting point is 00:54:22 itself, all that stuff. So I guess like in a way, like I do, I plan it out, but I'm not like, I don't have it like laid out with like notes. And I'm like, okay, like I need to use this lens and I need to shoot it from this angle and it needs to be this long. And I'm just like, nope, like these are the shots that I need. And I just kind of come in here. I'm like, I want the box. I want the box open. I want the PC coming out of the box. The PC going on the desk. Speaking of the box, I forgot you were. sitting on it but that box is heavy duty like I
Starting point is 00:54:56 checked it before I sat on it I wasn't like alright we're gonna jump on this thing like it is hefty it's okay I see our CEO like the post so we'll let it slide it's a thick box like it's not it wasn't like a because like a PC like the box the cases come in is not the same box I don't want you guys ship
Starting point is 00:55:19 that thing but that thing is heavy duty It's pretty thick. Yeah, I got a heavy duty. For people that want to get into creating this type of content, what, like, what would you recommend? Like, like, RGB content or like PC content? Just like tech content in general. Just do it. But like, just just do it.
Starting point is 00:55:40 Like, just take the stuff you already own and just take pictures of it. Like, that's, like, that's the easiest way to do it. Like, when I started, I was, I was shooting, I was literally shooting junk. Literally shooting junk. I go a flea market, spend $100 and come back. I mean, look, look at all my trinkets. Like, literally have, like, I'd lay it all. I don't know if you can't, actually, you can't find them because they're archived.
Starting point is 00:56:01 I'll send you a picture after Mike. But, like, I would literally go and I'd find all this stuff, and I would lay it out on the floor. And I would just be like, look at my junk. This is the junk I bought from the flea market. I spent $100. Here you go. Like, what? And people followed me for it.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Like, what did you grab up the flea market? Are you going to flea market anytime soon? And I'm like, no. But like pre pre-covid, like I could go to the flea market and spend 150 bucks on Gameboys. And I'd come back with like 30 or 40 Game Boys. Like it was bad. You know what you should do is you should start shooting content with one of those Game Boy cameras. So there's guys that do it.
Starting point is 00:56:40 And I won't because they own it. That's their thing. I thought I thought I was smart and came up with that. It's not a new thing. No, it's like it's super neat. Like I've seen guys like shoot. whole videos with it. You know,
Starting point is 00:56:52 I've seen people take like 3DSs and stuff to concerts and shoot, you know, concerts. Oh, really? Yeah. And it's just like, it's like the,
Starting point is 00:56:59 the video that comes out of those is like not good, but it's still like a neat little, neat little thing, but it's not like, oh my God, like look at this 4K video that I got on my 3DS. It's like, look at this.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Like, it looks like it was shot on a cell phone from like the, you know, 2000s. It's not good. But it's still like a neat thing to be like, this was shot on a 3DS. It's like,
Starting point is 00:57:21 what? Like, okay, sure. And I know one of the things that content creators go through, even people like Mike and I who do this for work ourselves, you know, it's like slow growth, burnout, just, you know, inconsistency and thing like that. Like, how do you keep yourself motivated to just constantly, like you said, just shoot, just do it, just pick up what you got. Don't just pick up and grind.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Yeah. So I, I've slowed. I've slowed down. Like, I'm not going to say that. Like, I used to post every day. I think in 21, 22, like, I was posting two, three, four, five times a day. But I've slowed down. I think it's just like I've gotten to a point where, you know, my kids are getting older.
Starting point is 00:58:09 The time I have to shoot content is becoming less and less. And I just kind of get done what I can get done. But as far as, like, how do I stay motivated? it's just like that there's still like oh gs that have been following me for you know four or five years it's still you know rock with my content so like that in itself keeps me going the fact that like there is creators and and people who look up to my content like that in itself will also keep me going but yeah like the whole like instagram slow on the algorithm like i i don't have the time or the patience to fight with the algorithm anymore like i don't care you know like every time i've
Starting point is 00:58:48 ever asked anyone who's doing a little bit better than me like oh you know like what's the secret man like how you you know how you growing so fast how you you know getting all the views the likes whatever it's like oh man you just got to stay consistent it's like bro i've been consistent like i've done that i've been posting once a day i've been posting twice a day i've been posting three times a day i've done the reels for 30 days i've done the photos for 30 days like i'm just out here doing me you know what i mean so like actually scroll back up mike go go back scroll up Where to go? Let's go down.
Starting point is 00:59:21 The picture in the middle. Down, down. No, the other way. Sorry. Hey, I forgot. I'm a little delayed. Oh, you're delayed. Keep going.
Starting point is 00:59:32 The other way. Go down. Down the timeline. It's a bright photo. It's a bright photo in the middle of the frame. Yeah, in the middle of the grid. Just hope keep going. Looks like it was shot during the day.
Starting point is 00:59:46 No, keep going. So okay, so see that one on the left with the with the, with the girl in the snow. Grown of snow. Oh, this one. Down one. So it's that wallpaper, but it's in the middle of the middle of the grid. So I have, fine.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Yeah, we got a little delay. Sorry. Snow? I'm like, I just want to take the mouse from you. Come on, Mike, you can do this. So he said the snow in the middle. In the middle. that wallpaper go the other direction scroll down yeah this one you'll find oh here it is this one i see it
Starting point is 01:00:31 that one there yeah yeah i shot that at 12 30 in the morning wow in this room jeez so like just like little little things like that right and like the caption is like what you believe me i told you i shot this at 12 30 the morning and like people like there's no way Like there's no way. It's lighting. It just there's a giant soft box in the corner. I'm just blow it up. But yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:02 So it's like one of those things, right? Where I'm like shooting in the dark is is difficult. Shooting with the lights on is not. But then like shooting with lights on comes with a whole other thing or shooting during the day because like you end up with light bleed. Right. So then like you can't make RGB saturated when windows are bleeding on it. So like that's a whole other a whole other thing. But yeah, that was shot in the middle of the night.
Starting point is 01:01:24 Wow. How long did it take you to set this up? I mean, I shot it at 12.30 in the morning, Mike. You can probably answer that yourself. I don't remember. I think I was just, I think I set up the shot for something else. And then I was like, let me see if I can, if I can do this. And I did.
Starting point is 01:01:42 That's crazy. Maybe, maybe half an hour. I don't know. Not long. Like, it's really just, it's a big soft box. Like, that's really all it is and just bounce it off the ceiling. Do you have like a dream collab with anyone? A dream?
Starting point is 01:01:57 Yeah. With anyone? I mean one of them like it sounds cliche because I'm here. One of them was N-S-T so like that's off the table. So like we're good there. Samsung's another one. Then like some little stuff with them like they sent me like some PR and stuff but like nothing crazy. So Samsung Canada if you're watching this or listening, let's chat.
Starting point is 01:02:18 The other one would probably be Canon, like Canon cameras. never done anything with Canon so again Canon so since you're listening we should chat since you said NST how did you first get introduced to NST
Starting point is 01:02:35 I wanted a new cooler for my age 10 elite and that's old school old school yeah so I wanted And yeah, I wanted a new cooler.
Starting point is 01:02:54 And really like the only like cool coolers at the time were NZXT cracking. So I bought a X63 and then had that for like a year, year in a bit. And then switch cases, switch coolers. And then in January, no, December. I was reached out by an agency to work with you guys. on the elite gaming gear launch and then ended up with the mini elite tkl and then we have now since flourished into i got one on the desk too got this one i got the black one over there whoa what happened i'm touching stuff and now i'm even sending you hats in the mail now yeah i got hats
Starting point is 01:03:46 I got a keychain that's somewhere. But yeah, no, the elite gaming gear collab kind of opened the door up. I posted it and then I think his name was Rudy was looking for a few people to post some additional stuff. And then we kind of connected there. And then I didn't get anything from that side of things. when the H7 and the H9 came out, you had a bunch of us do some stuff for that. So the H9 that is sitting here waiting to build something in it.
Starting point is 01:04:25 So me and Ivan were chatting about chatting about something, maybe down the road. Now that I know where you work, see, we can do some bartering here. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, we'll see what we get. I send you. Yeah, you send me goodies. I send you goodies.
Starting point is 01:04:41 I send you a motherboard and then you send me some many beers in the mail. I could probably make that happen. But yeah, no, that's kind of how I got back in touch with NXT is like just like. And then with this new PC campaign, like, again, like that was a fluke. I was like, hey, Rudy, like I want to build an NXXT PCs. Like so funny enough, I got this thing. And I'm like, let's chat. So yeah, it's just like I'm one to kind of try and build.
Starting point is 01:05:11 build relationships and kind of keep things open when working with brands and not just like thank you for the stuff and then disappear into the wind like you know like keep in touch and and build some type of relationship you know whether it be just as simple as like I think I got both of you guys on on LinkedIn and it's just like yeah like there are people and like if you actually work with the people you're you know interacting with in terms of your brand collabs like brands are probably more likely to reach out like hey like i got this thing it's not up your alley but thought i would touch base with you first right and then it's kind of how i've tried anyway to keep keep things open it's like great good content keep good relationship so that brands at least want to work with you moving forward on on campaigns and stuff and you're you know a first a first thought rather than an afterthought like oh yeah this campaign's been running for six weeks and it's like hey did you want this I'm like, well, no, the campaign's been running for six weeks.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Like, where was I six weeks ago? Oh, yeah, it's been great working with you, man. And you've definitely been on it. And I try. You're always top of mind for me too because you're always like asking questions and, you know, giving feedback and things like that. So, gee, geez, man. It's been, it's been fun working with you and hopefully we can keep working together.
Starting point is 01:06:35 I do have a question from our community here that I want to ask you before we start wrapping things up. Sure. It's from Isle of Gems and they ask. Oh, Ms. Meg, Ms. Meg. Do you have any tutorials on any of your socials for those learning to shoot with a camera? Yes and no. So I have one that's buried and it's more so just on camera settings and what they do. I should probably redo it for for cameras, but the settings are the same regardless of whether you're on camera or on a phone using pro mode, but I'll share it to my story if I can find it after this.
Starting point is 01:07:22 But I should also reshoot it. Settings are settings. At the end of the day, it's no different than, you know, PCs. Like you're not, if you're switching motherboards, like, or keyboards even, right? Like the Windows key is in the same spot. Like it's not any different that way. So I have one. I will find it and I will post it.
Starting point is 01:07:44 And then I will reshoot it at some point. Nice. These are fun. It's time for my favorite part of the show. Speaking of fun, it's where Mike asks you some fun questions. Oh, ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:08:00 Ridiculous. I got some fun ones. We'll ease into it. Okay. So don't worry. So we'll start with simple ones. You know, what's, what is the best food in Winnipeg? The best.
Starting point is 01:08:14 Okay. So there's this place called Mongo's. I haven't been in a while, but there's this place called Mongo's. It's essentially pick your own Mongolian stir fry. So they got like a veggie station, a meat station. And they got all the sauces, all the spices. So you basically put everything in this little plastic bowl. And then you bring it up to the grill.
Starting point is 01:08:33 And they got like three different kinds of rice. You can add eggs and whatever to your stir fry, fried up right in front of you. And then they put it on a plate and they hand it to you. I've been going there like 20-something years and it's like the best. I haven't been in a couple of years, but now that you've asked, you've reminded me and I will probably be going sometimes. So thanks for that. But there's a lot of like local like spots in Winnipe that like are like, you know, they're not on skip the dishes. They're not on DoorDash or whatever.
Starting point is 01:09:03 and it's like cool like like a place of the it's called the forks and it's essentially um i don't know describe it it's basically just like a little market um in like the heart of winnipeg um there's place called bindies they do like roti and doubles and stuff like that's like Caribbean food um probably one of the best roti in the city and like you can't get it unless you go there so i'm like if i'm at the forks and i'm like we're there for lunch and i'm like do i want like do i want bindies or do i want someone else and it's like I'm here probably getting bindies like I used to work downtown and it was bad because it was like a five-minute walk I'm like yeah I'll be back in 20 minutes I'm going to get bindi's yeah too close to good food and yeah it's a bad news but mongo's like
Starting point is 01:09:48 yeah mongo slabs oh I'm hungry out of all the the tendal console so including you know the ds the we and every what is the number one what is the best I'm all I'm consoles or handheld? Everything, including handhelds. Because, like, you know, you could say like S&S, NES, but they also have the D.S. The D S-S-Light. You know, the Switch now is honestly pretty dang good, too. So what's the number one if you have?
Starting point is 01:10:18 If I had to pick one, probably GameCube, and I didn't own one. So, like, that's, like, it's weird for me to say that. I play, like, I had friends who owned GameCube. So, like, GameCube era, I think, just, like, shaped. gaming different, right? Like, you end up with like, that's like first Nintendo console
Starting point is 01:10:39 with two joysticks, you've got like multiple buttons, like all that stuff. So like, yeah, probably the GameCube. Like, N664 like changed the space as far as like 3D gaming, but like the GameCube I think solidified that for Nintendo.
Starting point is 01:10:56 Good idea. Oh, do you have a favorite gaming memory? you know, either with your siblings, your cousins, your friends. That's a good question. I don't know off the top of my head. Yeah. I'm like, no, like, nothing I can think of off the top of my head.
Starting point is 01:11:23 I'm like, yeah, like, that's, that's the moment. I think, like, even just, like, not a memory, but, like, right now, like, my, like, my oldest is starting to get, well, both my kids are starting to get into gaming. So, like, I think, like, currently, like, that's kind of cool is, like, I get to, like, build, like new memories with with them is like my oldest is he's six and he's like I want to play fortnight and I'm like uh okay um like you can only you can only play with me and he's like okay like that's fine so like that's kind of cool is that like I get to like play games with with my kids like my parents like they played the odd you know oh I'll play one level of Super Mario or like whatever but like
Starting point is 01:12:01 my parents didn't game with me um they had no interest in gaming so I think like to fast forward and kind of break that, you know, generational curse that like, yeah, I'll play with you, but like, you can't play these games by yourself. There's a, I cannot remember their names, but there's a gaming couple and their daughter plays with them. Super cute. And I think it's an awesome way to like bond because like they're playing peak recently. And it's the funny thing because she doesn't immediately just fall down and everyone starts laughing.
Starting point is 01:12:33 So I like that. Yeah. Do you have a favorite Pokemon? games since you put you post a lot of like the retro stuff with Pokemon games do you have a favorite Pokemon one i'm just like i'm super boring when it comes to Pokemon so i've honestly only played red and blue um i own most of the Gameboy games but Pokemon Red is probably um my favorite so yeah i've got i don't know like five or six copies of Pokemon Red but like different like I've custom painted versions i've got like colored
Starting point is 01:13:09 version. I have a whole bunch of nonsense. It's bad. Don't ask me these things. You're making me like, it look crazy. Oh, I don't know. I look a little crazy. I just, I just have a full closet full of them, but no, no. Yeah, I got like five or six copies of a Pokemon red. Like I got like the standard version. Then I've got like the Pokemon Red DX, which is a colored version. And then I have like a custom painted sparkly version. And then I have one that was, it's got a custom marbled shell that was done by a friend of mine in Toronto. So then I got custom labels done for that. So I've got that copy.
Starting point is 01:13:45 And then I have a blue version of the same. Like, yeah, it's bad. Thanks, Mike. No problem. If you weren't doing like part time pretty much car and tech creation,
Starting point is 01:13:59 do you know what you would be doing instead? Nothing. Nothing. I don't know. I've never really thought about it. Like what I would be doing in terms of like just filling the time. I never, I never planned to be a content creator.
Starting point is 01:14:17 I never, like this was never part of the journey. I just, I literally just fell into it. I think when I got my first email like, hey, like we like to send you a free product. And I'm like,
Starting point is 01:14:28 oh, this is, this is happening now. Okay, cool. Yeah. And then when you realize that you're kind of good at it, you can maybe reach out to,
Starting point is 01:14:37 you know, some bigger brands. and kind of go about it that way. Yeah, I don't know what I would be doing if I wasn't doing this because I never planned to do this in the first place. So I'd probably just be chilling and buying games and playing games and live in life. But, like, I never thought about it.
Starting point is 01:14:56 Like, it was never like, oh, yeah, like, I'm going to, you know, build this crazy account and I'm going to go from, you know, five followers on Instagram to, you know, 8,000 and change. Like, truthfully, when I built the account, I was just like, I'm going to share my, my flea market and garage sale finds with people who like retro gaming. Like, that was all it was meant to be. And now we're here. Nice. It all worked out.
Starting point is 01:15:25 Yeah. Yeah, exactly. What is one thing on your desk that you cannot live without? My BenQ screen bar. I didn't even have to think about it. Wow. What do you put on it? Uh, it's a light.
Starting point is 01:15:39 Oh. Oh, the screen bar. I was thinking about the, um, screen monitor. Never mind. Oh, wow. Yeah. Love this thing. I think it's like probably one of the most underrated pieces of tech that I own.
Starting point is 01:15:53 I don't say, I need to start doing that because like, I mean, I have a pretty bare setup right now. I just have all my plushies and figurines behind me. But honestly, I should start putting up some RGB and everything like that to kind of make the set up a little bit more of a set up. I'll do something with it. Yeah. No. I had the original one that you had to like touch like the controls were on the bar itself and then I've had the I've had the halo for I don't know a year and a half. I had two at one point because I had dual monitor so I had two halos paired to like one of the controllers.
Starting point is 01:16:23 So that was pretty cool because there's only a few people who have done that. Dad Duranca has created out of Colona put me onto it and I was like, okay, pot wait a second. Like you because I had one in the in the middle of two monitors for the longest time and like you can pair two of them to the one and he's like yeah like I just found this out and I was like Ben Q I need I need another one like if you showcase the like the pairing part of it is like done so that that was what the whole video was this is like I'm not going to unbox another one but I will tell people that like that is a thing and now with the ultra curve monitor I'm like I don't need two so yeah I get it. Do you have a favorite game as of right now? I'm like nose deep in Fortnite. Like it's no build. Yeah, zero builds. Zero builds and blitz.
Starting point is 01:17:14 Like blitz is like it's dirty. It's is bad. It's it's super fast pace. And I like fast pace games. Like I'm like a like I like gun game on like Call of Duties. I like that like super fast. Like let's go like the match is only eight minutes long type thing. So I love that.
Starting point is 01:17:31 So like fast pace my duo is like not. thrilled about it. I guess so fast. I'm like, yeah, you know, whatever. But you'll learn.
Starting point is 01:17:38 Yeah, no, I'm like, figure it out. So, yeah, no, Blitz and Zero builds are,
Starting point is 01:17:44 are crazy right now. Silk Song just came out yesterday. So I'll be, I'll be head down in that as soon as I can pick that up. But currently, Fortnite, as of probably next week, it'll be Silk Song.
Starting point is 01:17:56 So. Good choice. What would your last meal be? Probably mongoes. Wow. That's how good. We got to fly up there just try it. Probably mongoes.
Starting point is 01:18:13 I thought, yeah, if I did Montreal bagel. Yeah, probably mongoes. Like if I had, if I had the option and I was like, yeah,
Starting point is 01:18:20 like you order like, you know, home can move by pops or something. Like that one of those, but probably mongos. All right. I got some fun hypotheticals and then we'll go into the announcements. All right.
Starting point is 01:18:32 If you got paid, $100,000 for each day you go without showering. How long would you go? I just saw this question on Twitter. Is that where you got? Yeah, it's been blowing up on Twitter. And I was like, oh, I got to ask this. Because I'm curious.
Starting point is 01:18:52 Okay, so we're talking hypothetical. Like, I just can't shower. You just cannot shower. No, like, you can't use baby wipes or take a bath or, you know, you can't do it. It's just literally just, this is it. Just this is me? Yes. 100,000 dollars a day i'd probably push it a week yeah i mean if you do 10 days i mean if you do 10
Starting point is 01:19:16 days that's a milly right there right but like i'm like i'm like i'm moving all day right so like i mean you're getting paid a hundred thousand dollars you don't have to move you could just stay put you like listen listen i'll give you a hundred grand i'll give you the hundred grand when i'm done just let me sit here for the week um yeah probably like a week we can i'd make it to the weekend yeah like 10 days 10 days make a milly call it a day Ivan how long are you going I feel like I can go my entire life without
Starting point is 01:19:47 showering to be honest I swear I don't I wouldn't mind the smell I wouldn't care if people thought I was stinky I'd be like I mean you'd be a millionaire after 10 days I mean if you go a month gosh oh man that's that's a lot of money right there $3 million what's the year like oh gosh it a year
Starting point is 01:20:06 it would be I'm doing it right now it would be like billion Yeah. Billions. $365 times 100 grand. Oh, it's not even that bad. It's $36 million. $36 million.
Starting point is 01:20:19 But that's a lot. $36.5 million. That's still a lot of money. A year's doable. If that's your only job, $36 million, I'll do it for $36 million. Yeah. I mean, you just don't do anything like to exert yourself, right?
Starting point is 01:20:34 Just don't sweat, you know. I like the, my favorite comments was, uh, you guys are doing to do it. for you guys getting paid to do this i'm like yeah would you rather give up kissing or all sauces including condiments pasta sauce dressings kissing i think that's kind of the global consensus that seems like a global consensus like you got to eat bland food for yeah ever like pretty much the only I put scratch on like everything. So like right immediately.
Starting point is 01:21:15 I'm like, no. Yeah, you can't use that ketchup for dipping. No pasta anymore. You can't have pasta sauce. Yeah. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:21:23 I'm like, I think I'd give a kissing. I was like, I can't. I would only give up kissing Mike. There you go. All right. Last two.
Starting point is 01:21:34 $200 a day for the rest of your life. Yeah. However, you will freeze randomly for 10, seconds. One time. Randomly throughout the day. Like you'll just like this for 10 seconds.
Starting point is 01:21:48 Like you can't move. You're frozen in place like you're in freeze tag. Would you do it? For 200 bucks a day? This means. But it can happen anytime. And you're driving. During this time, you cannot drive a vehicle.
Starting point is 01:22:07 $200 a day. Let me do the math. Like, let me do the math. Like, So if you're like crossing the street and you like $73,000 a year. So basically like a salary and you just can't do you could literally just do this for your life basically or at least you do part of it. But probably right. You cannot drive.
Starting point is 01:22:28 You can't even walk because whatever you're trying to, whatever you're walking across the street. Oh, you just pause for 10 seconds. Yeah. For 73 grand. I think I would do it. 10 years you made $7 million. Yeah. If you survive.
Starting point is 01:22:45 I mean, I just, yeah, I'm just literally, you could not walk across the street or drive a car, ride a bike or anything, because if you freeze, you're done. Yeah, but then you're making it. It's only 10 seconds, though. So, like, as long as you're not, like, like, 10 seconds really isn't that long. It's really not that bad. Like, if you're riding, if you're riding, because, like, if you're riding a bike, like, I wouldn't go riding down, like, no monkey trails.
Starting point is 01:23:09 Like, I wouldn't go, like, on any winding roads. Like, you'd be fine. And if you freeze in the middle, like, like, you'd be fine. If you freeze, like, you know, in a morning, you're like, I'm good for 10 seconds. I was like, oh, yeah. Like, you're going to freeze when someone offers you $100,000 a day for not showering. And then you'd be like, oh, I guess he doesn't want to do it. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:23:30 Like, I can double up. All right. And then the final one, go to prison for a year, but, uh, or say, go to prison for a year or you go to prison, but you can only come out until you get hiccups. Oh, look, if I get the hiccups. Yeah. So, like, if you force yourself, get hiccups, you can do it. But, like, if you can't get it.
Starting point is 01:23:54 Baby carrot, I'll hiccup immediately. Really? I'd be out of jail day one. I don't think I've had hiccups in a long time. That's all I'm like, I don't think I've had hiccups. If I eat a baby care, if I go upstairs and eat a baby carrot, I'll eat, I'll have the hiccups and like that's why I care of all things. I have no idea.
Starting point is 01:24:11 Every time I eat baby carrots, I get the hiccups. I have no idea why. It's the only food that, like, gives me hiccups. But, yeah, I'd be out of it. I'd be out of jail the same day. What do you mean he's leaving? He's hiccuping. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Let's tell you. Like that was the deal. That's crazy. That was the deal. He had to hiccup and he could go home. He hasn't even seen his cell. He's going up. He's pulled a baby carrot off some guys straight.
Starting point is 01:24:38 I bet tech makes a good point. What if jail doesn't have baby carrots? Man, I assume Dale off carrots. right? Does that be baby carrots? I don't know. I don't eat full-sized carrot. Like,
Starting point is 01:24:53 I don't eat carrots. Like, baby carrots, yeah. I don't know. Baby carrots are just regular carrots cut down. Like, they're just regular carrots,
Starting point is 01:25:02 man. It's unlike there's like a baby carrot breed of, you don't, I don't know. But I don't know. I don't know. It has to be a raw carrot because it cook carrots. Don't do it.
Starting point is 01:25:12 Interesting. That's so interesting. But yeah. Like almost every time I eat, I'd be curious. I get the hiccups. So at least one today. Well, there you go.
Starting point is 01:25:23 I'm going to lunchtime. I'll be out here. Don't worry. They're like, oh my God, he got locked up for what? You're like, nothing.
Starting point is 01:25:31 That was the deal. Like, when did he get out? He has to hiccup? Like, I don't know. That's what they said. People are freaking out.
Starting point is 01:25:38 It's like, why is everyone crying? He's like, you're in jail. It's like, I was in jail for the morning. Like, I had breakfast with the guys and,
Starting point is 01:25:45 and like, we're out. We're out. We're good to go. They call me hiccup. Yeah. They call me hiccup. Like, that's what they're calling.
Starting point is 01:25:52 They say I'm from How to Train Your Jaggin. That's funny. All righty. Well, that is the last of the announcements. Do you have, you know, do you have anything coming up that you want to shout out? So, you know, any exciting projects or content that you're making? Nothing super crazy. Starting point is 01:27:01 Need a nature to forever that. Let me get into announcements and then we'll give out this a code word. Just a couple of little ones. We just launched our new N7B850 motherboard. This clean motherboard blends aesthetics and function. while supporting the latest AMD RIS of the 9000 series processors. So go and check them out at nzixie.com.
Starting point is 01:27:23 Like what we discussed earlier today and what T's wearing on his head right now, we have the NZC Intel Club. It is popping, guys. So special thanks to Intel, by the way, for helping us out to basically give you guys free stuff. We're giving out shirts, blushies, gift cards, hats,
Starting point is 01:27:43 and the biggest prize of them all, we are giving away a PC again for the month of September. So please go to ncc.co slash club, sign up, participate in our community, and you can earn poochie points. And basically, the more points you earn, the more entries you get into the giveaway. So my advice is to start now. If you start now, there are more points you get, which means more entries in the giveaway, which means more chances to win the PC or all the other stuff that we're giving away.
Starting point is 01:28:13 poor Ivan has to basically mail this out every month. He has to mail out like a box of everything. So everyone, please do this. So Ivan is rewarded for his efforts. I actually had to clean up this podcast room because there was like a box. So before we go into anything, so we have a Glean giveaway for a shirt, stickers, and a plushie. You can see Gucci right behind me.
Starting point is 01:28:41 Um, T, there is a secret code word that gives people a thousand extra entries for sticking around to the end of show. Do you have a code word you'd like to have as the secret code word? Let's do like just any word or anything you want? Okay, I was like, did we talk about this? No, no, no, no. It's like a fun thing. I'm like, you know what? Let them decide what the code word is, you know, a little bit on the spot.
Starting point is 01:29:09 Code word game boy. Code Word, Game Boy. Easy. I love that. I'm updating to Gleam right now. So everyone, please refresh your gleams for the code word is game boy. Code word game boy. Ivan, do you have anything before I go into the outro?
