I'm Rebecca Greenfield, and I'm hosting a new Bloomberg podcast called The Paycheck. Over six episodes, we're going to investigate a big, expensive, global mystery. Why in 2018, women still make less money, 20% less, than men.

On the paycheck, we're going to show you what 20% less looks like. I told my husband, I have to go to Birmingham, Alabama, and file a charge with the Equal Employment Commission. But I will tell you, if I start, we will be in this fight. for at least eight years. And he said, well, what time you want to leave? We'll hear from a lot of women who finally spoke out. I'm a fat black woman. So people are really looking at me like, have you lost your mind?

You should just be grateful. They let you in. You know, at some point, you step away, you lift up your head, and you realize that things are not right. We'll also dig into why the pay gap still exists. And then we'll explore what's being done to fix it. What happens when a whole country takes on the pay gap?
