Starting point is 00:00:00 This BBC podcast is supported by ads outside the UK. Hello, I'm Robin Ince. And I'm Brian Cox. And we would like to tell you about the new series of The Infinite Monkey Cage. We're going to have a planet off. Jupiter versus Saturn. It's very well done that because in the script it does say wrestling voice. After all of that, it's going to kind of chill out a bit and talk about ice.
Starting point is 00:00:26 And also in this series we're discussing history music recording with Brian Eno and looking at nature's shapes. So listen wherever you get your podcasts. BBC Sounds music radio podcasts. BBC Sounds music radio podcasts. Good morning! Morning? You sound a bit rough. Am I allowed to even start by saying good morning? Why not? I don't know because I feel like we're in our own sort of TARDIS here and we never ever really sort of indicate whether it's evening, afternoon or morning. Well, if you want to say good morning at 8 o'clock at night, it's up to you, Jo.
Starting point is 00:01:21 I started by going good morning. I feel like we're revealing something about ourselves. I feel a bit off my face to be honest, even though I've only had two paracetamol. Well, that's fair enough. We've all been there. I feel really achy. It's, you know, when you're aching in your bones. You know, I'm gonna have to say,
Starting point is 00:01:37 like a child, if you're one of my children now, in fact, let me just feel your head. It's hot, it's hot. Let me feel you. Oh, God. I'm hot, aren't I? And your eyes are glazed over. Yeah, I me just feel your head. It's hot, it's hot. Let me feel you. Oh God. I'm hot, aren't I? And you've got your eyes are glazed over. Yeah, I don't feel good. I'd be lying you under a blanket on the sofa.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Yeah. With a bottle of LucasAid right now if you were mine. Yeah. Proper late 80s style. I still do that. I still go, late 80s, early 90s, ill child. Yeah. Bottle of LucasAid, which is no good for you. Yeah. Late 80s, early 90s, ill child. Bottle of LucasAid, which is no good for you. Loads of biscuits, telly and a blanket.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Yeah, I like it and I get the kids as well when they're ill to still come downstairs but bring your duvet. So lying on the sofa, duvet over, stuff on the telly. I'll give them LucasAid as well. Because I'm sure a bit of it has got to be good. No, it's awful. Is it all bad? It just reminds me of when I was ill, so I do the same thing. Yeah. It's just full of sugar and it's awful.
Starting point is 00:02:31 And then Marmite on toast. There are other fizzy orange drinks available. Right, well I might bring a bit of energy in because you're not feeling too well. I'm all hot and clammy. Bless you. I think I've got the flu. James and the kids have had the flu for about the past month. I really don't want to get ill. Well, do you know, right, do you remember it was about two podcasts ago and you came
Starting point is 00:02:52 in and you said that you were ill? Yeah. Well, it's probably that that I've got, isn't it? No, it's not. It's far too long ago. Well, incubation period is probably that. No, no. It's not yellow fever you've got. Can I also say though, what's cheered me up is looking at your gorgeous hair. Oh thank you very much. I'm loving the whole vibe, I'm feeling very 70s from you. I'm liking the autumnal colours, it's all really earthy and stuff and like the cardigan and the lovely hair colour with like sort of the reddy but it's sort of like reddy blondy golden I feel like you're like sort of going into the summer with a whole 70s vibe and I really think it suits you I really genuinely thank you very
Starting point is 00:03:35 very much yeah I don't think that you should do any quick thing of going oh I've had it now and I'm going to go back or whatever if I was you I keep it that colour because I think it's gorgeous oh I'm happy with it I'm happy with. We'll see how it goes though, because, well, the extensions. Yeah. I had them when I was younger and they were shit. Really horrible ones. So I didn't like those. And this is the first time I've had them again. But they're kind of taped in. Yes. How does that feel, right right because I'm not the sort of person
Starting point is 00:04:05 who I don't like having anything on me. Things, yeah I know what you mean. I never wear jewellery and the most I wear is my earrings but I don't like jewellery and I don't like stuff on me and I think it's because I feel like I need to be physically like if I'm attacked or I'm ready to go. Yeah I get it. Yeah. You look a bit like, I love the jumpsuit today. Thank you. But when you did that, it looked as if you were kind of in SAS, what's it called? Oh SAS, Who Des Wins. Yeah. Yeah. You look like you're ready for that today. I am ready. I'm ready for any of the SAS men. Yes, obviously, yeah. But yeah, I've always thought, would I feel like that about I'd end up ripping them out or something? No, I thought that and, would I feel like that about I'd end up ripping them out
Starting point is 00:04:45 or something? No, I thought that and they aren't very heavy at all. So they really do feel like your hair. Yes. How do you wash it? You wash your hair the same, you dry it the same. How long do they stay in for? Well forever if you want them to. But they grow out with your hair. So then you just get them tightened up and they go back up again. But these are very, they don't damage your hair as much as what I've been told, who bloody knows. But it's nice to have a little bit
Starting point is 00:05:14 of length and to feel a little bit different to Sonia. The burden of learning lines every night has gone at the moment, which is a really lovely thing. I feel like I've got the evenings back. So that is really nice. Are you forgetting every now and then and sort of going oh my god I've got work or I've got to you know. No I'm not forgetting. God it must be. But at the moment it's early days isn't it. I'm sure I'll miss it in a while but you always miss the people. You miss your friends don't you. Yeah. But I have to say I'm not missing the work. And it's lovely, I've got Joni's Parents' Evening this week, and I've got a few things,
Starting point is 00:05:51 I got invited last night actually that I thought would be really good to talk about. There's a new show coming out on Amazon Prime. Oh yeah. It's on the 20th of March, and it's called Last One Laughing. Oh! And it's presented by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty and it's got ten comedians in it so all of it's right up my street. Oh my god yeah. And yeah what is it about because I've seen it advertised. It is the
Starting point is 00:06:15 simplest thing and apparently it's been sold in 400 million countries and it's just coming over to us. It's the thing I've been saying because I remember seeing the invite. Well, it was very good. Oh my god, what was it like? Well, it was fun. Yeah, it was just, I went in, in, out. I went with Lovely Scott, my agent and friend. And we watched a couple of the shows. Jimmy was there. Jimmy Carr did a little Q&A.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Yeah. And I had a few people that I wanted to see. Joe Wilkinson was there, he's a friend of mine. And just had a little chat, quick drink and then I was owned by Twelter 10. Did it make you laugh? Was it good? It did make me laugh. It did make me laugh. Because they do all sorts of just wacky things. They have to get up and they do, yes, the phone rings and Jimmy's kind of the host and
Starting point is 00:07:17 he comes in and out. Roisin's with him and they're watching it and she kind of points out who's laughing and they get red cards and yellow cards and it's just another one to add to the list that I'd like to be on. Yeah, oh my god I'd love it. I would just be useless on that wouldn't I? Although I don't think I could do it. Or my competitive streak would, you know, kick in. Bob Mortimer was on it and everyone was just like, oh god no Bob don't talk to me. And everywhere he went people just kept walking away. People just kept walking away from him. But there's some really great people on it. And Judy Love was there as well, who's lovely and brilliant. No, it was really good and I think, yeah, I think people will like it.
Starting point is 00:07:55 It's nice to have something new, like a new comedy thing, isn't it? It's just very easy watching. It's that taskmaster audience, I would say. Yeah. Because there's just lots of comedians trying not to laugh, trying to make other comedians laugh. But what's funny in that situation is I feel when you're trying to make someone laugh, you're actually make yourself laugh. Yes, you are. So it's very interesting. I don't know if I could do it. I wonder if we could do it. Because we laugh quite a lot don't we?
Starting point is 00:08:26 Yeah, oh I bet we could but I'm like that, say I've been on stage and I'm trying to like make someone laugh, I'll just always set myself off. This is what I mean yeah. But it's good having a new like comedy, not panel show type thing but you know like a new comedy show. We've had the same ones for such a long time, it's nice to have a new one coming along isn't it? Definitely. Oh God, can you imagine you and me on that together?
Starting point is 00:08:45 I'd go out of my way to try and make you laugh. I would just have to look at you, you'd have to stay away from me. You would just have to stay away from me. Thing is, I laugh at people. I hosted a Comedy Loves Fashion night. Oh yes, how did that go? I was looking at all of your photos on Instagram. It was really good and it was at the Bedford in Ballum, which is kind of a really cool
Starting point is 00:09:07 comedy place and they did, there was lots of stand-ups on it but Kerry Godlaman was on. Oh I love her. No, Jo. Yes. Honestly and I'm not just saying this, I'm not sat here just plugging something, I promise you. She did five minutes, my eyes are watering thinking about it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I couldn't breathe. I was laughing so much that when she finished her bit, I then had to get up and introduce the next act. I couldn't do it. Oh my God. I'm so sorry, everybody. I can't speak. Here's the next act.
Starting point is 00:09:36 That's what I had to say. She was brilliant. And I think she's on tour at the moment. It was brilliant. Brilliant. All about perimenopause, menopause, HR, it was hilarious. So I highly recommend that. Yeah, I was looking at all of your stuff. Do you like hosting things?
Starting point is 00:09:51 I haven't done much of it. I'm always nervous, aren't I, at the beginning of anything. And again it was a live thing. So I was a little bit nervous at the beginning. But then I sort of warmed up. And there was a comedian with a witch who was really funny. What, like a witch puppet? A witch puppet, sexy witch. He was brilliant, I can't remember his name, that's really annoying, but brilliant brilliant. And he called me up and then the witch was, I was with the witch here and I said oh we've got the same nose, which got a big laugh. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Because you know everyone says I've got a big nose at home so I thought I'd use that. But you know I sort of, you know. Oh that's really nice as well I bet you feel yeah really good because I mean you didn't have the freedom to do stuff like this before did you? No and you can't say yes to things that are in the evening with EastEnders because your schedule is you get your schedule on a Thursday evening for the following week yes so if something comes up which is not three or four months away where you can get it in the diary and book it in as holiday, you just don't, you can't say yes, you say to people, could I let you know the Thursday before? And they're like, no, not really. So that's really lovely to be able to pop and do some charity events and stuff like
Starting point is 00:10:58 that. So it's really good. It's like you're glowing. Thank you so much. Oh, isn't it good? We need to get a luncheon. We do. We need to booze your lunch. Yes, yes we do. We do need to do that. So one of these recordings we'll have to stay in town. Yeah we will and let's do some cocktails. I feel like some pina coladas. Yeah. How are the snowballs? Oh lovely but I mean well I mean I am well and truly now out of my whole Christmas vibe. Oh you are? Good. Now that we've got so much. It's been nearly an April.
Starting point is 00:11:26 But yeah, I am like, I'm out of it now. I haven't had, I'm onto the gin and tonics and stuff like that now. Although I could do with some pina coladas because I'm going into the new, you know, coming into like spring and stuff. Oh my God, I started looking to book a holiday today. There's just so many flipping children. I just don't know what to do. It's a lot, isn't it? It's a lot. There's just so many flippin' children. I just don't know what to do. It's a lot, isn't it? It's a lot. There's six of you. I don't know whether or not to try and book, like, you know, like a self catering-y sort of villa
Starting point is 00:11:53 type thing. I know, but then is that a holiday for you? No, it's not a bloody holiday. That's why I haven't done it. Because I'm like, I want to go to a hotel and I want someone to cook because I don't want to cook. Yeah. And I just want to be able to play in the pool and relax and have fun. But now I started looking at my... Oh, Jesus! Oh, do you hate? Yeah! I want to get my Lilo out.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I just want to be in the pool. I want to be in the pool and I want to have some fun. I mean, oh my...and we've got our little caravan which we love but... Yes! What I hadn't taken into consideration is the fact that I don't know because we normally go down to the caravan and we do a massive load of time down the caravan for the summer holidays. Well all the holidays really, well we've got four blinking guinea pigs now haven't we because I've got four guinea pigs.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Yeah you've got to just get someone to move into yours to have the dog, to have the guinea pigs. Yeah I think I'm going to have to. How are they doing? They're doing really well. How's the extension? Oh really really good. I mean James, I just built this wooden thing going out and the extension has gone on to their house. They're having a whale of a time, they're loving it, they're really happy pigs and they're growing really big as well. That's lovely. That's good they're happy.
Starting point is 00:13:03 And also I never thought that we'd get to this point but because they're getting bigger as well we'll be sitting there and we're watching Saturday night telly and I've got Bess on my lap, Kit's sitting next to me, he's got Scruffadontae on his lap and it's like Bess and Scruffa. Where's Avocado? On Eva's lap. Fine. And then yeah so we've got them like on the laps next to the dogs and the dogs have sat there and the dogs have looked at them and everybody's happy. So it's, you know, it's working out well. So there's nine of you. Jesus Christ, is it nine? So like how many humans? Two dogs, three guinea pigs, six of you. There's six humans, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, no, is it twelve? Oh sorry.
Starting point is 00:13:39 That's ridiculous. It's a lot, isn't it? I mean, for God's sake, that's ridiculous. Yeah. There's so many. There's six of us't it? I mean for god's sake that's ridiculous. There's so many. There's six of us including Lily and La La. Who are Lily and La La? Oh our rabbits. Oh my god I don't think I thought you had rabbits but then I thought they'd gone. No no they're there they're very happy. Oh my god where do your rabbits live? Outside in the hutch. Oh what do they look like?
Starting point is 00:14:03 I'm very interested. I'll show you a picture? I've never even seen a photo of the rabbits. They are gorgeous. I was going to say delicious. I do quite like rabbit in a stew. I don't eat my own rabbits but no they are gorgeous and they've got a lovely fur about them. One's blue, one's a very caramel brownie but they're very large now but they're gorgeous. They're lop-eared Lily and La La and because we had a gorgeous weekend in the sun Mark built a we've got kind of a lovely we get a big run and we put it all out and we put their tunnel out and they loved being out there this weekend but then they go back in you know the hutch but yeah they're good so there's only six of us.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Yeah we're gonna get like a little run thing to put outside. We started actually properly going into the garden now last weekend. Beware of the kites and stuff. Oh, my God. I'd not even thought about that. Yeah. Because on like a run, it's open on the top. Oh, my God. That's awful. Can you imagine? Just have to be aware of the we've got a kite that flies over a lot. Because, yeah, where we are, there's like loads of red kites going by.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Oh, my God. Sorry, I didn't of red kites going by. Oh my god. Sorry, I didn't mean flying kites, beware of people with kites. I meant the birds. Yeah. You got it straight away just for everyone else. Oh my god. Yeah, because can you just imagine that would just be horrific. Yeah, not good. Oh my god. It'd be like a whodunit.
Starting point is 00:15:18 It would, wouldn't it? Well, it'd be whodunit, the kite up in the sky. Talking of whodunit. Yeah. Did you like that? I really did like that Lincoln. I really thought about that. You did, I mean that was really good. We've got a couple of shows this week that are in our favourite genres. For Nat we're watching Big Boys, which is a comedy on Channel 4. And for Jo we've got Towards Zero, which
Starting point is 00:15:39 is the latest Agatha Christie adaptation on the BBC. Now before we get into this week's show, should we have a little listen to what some of you guys at home have been saying? Oh yes please. I've suddenly developed a cold while sitting with you. Oh my god, have I pushed it towards you? I don't know. Morning both, Debbie from East Sussex here. Absolutely loved the live but I've got a bone
Starting point is 00:16:03 to pick with you Nat. You said that even if you weren't an EastEnders watcher you could just watch that week and enjoy it. What actually happened was I watched every episode since Christmas fast forwarded to find the bits of you in to try and work out what was happening and now I have to keep watching because you're still alive aren't you? And don't get me wrong I'm really happy that you're still alive, not you Sonia obviously and baby Julia very sweet. But I'm now watching it every morning before as soon as the kids have got off to school before I've done any work. That was not the plan. You told me I could just enjoy the week so yeah. That was the plan it's's good. People getting back into it. Start watching the live,
Starting point is 00:16:47 watching that week and then you get hooked in. Yes. So I'm pleased. I've heard that from a lot of people actually, people that used to watch it, that didn't anymore have started again and they're hooked. Yes. I'm surprised. I like it. It's good. It's all good. Bless her. Thank you. I think we've got another voice note to play. My name's Nikki from Preston. And I just wanted to send you a voice note this morning to say how much I love the podcast. I have quite a long journey to work on a Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And I always get excited when I get in the car, first thing, really early doors in the morning at 6 a.m. And I go, oh, it's Wednesday. And I put your podcast on as I'm driving to work. And I just had to message this morning because it's just made me giggle the whole way to work. Um, when you talk about the sun, you're in a trumpet. It always makes me giggle because I'm a professional trumpet player.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Um, but especially this morning, Joe, when you were talking about your Guinea pigs and, um, your antihistamines it made me chuckle because I rescue rabbits. I've got six rabbits, rescue rabbits. And at some points during the year, depending on when they're molting, I have to take allergy tablets as well and my throat starts going and then and my husband rolls his eyes because he's like oh it's me that's cleaning them out then is it and it just honestly makes me giggle and I absolutely love the names that you've got a few guinea pigs as well because we've two small boys and they started Pixar themed names for all our rabbits
Starting point is 00:18:23 like Buzz and Woody and they've continued with all these names and we're seeing how far we can stretch the Pixar themed names for rabbits. Oh that was lovely wasn't it? That's nice. I love hearing people. I had a lady come up to me, Lynne her name was, in M&S and she came up to me and she said I'm so sorry I know you're with your girls but I have to say I love Off the Telly with you and Jo. I listen all the time, I can't wait. And she just came up, she was so excited. So people are really enjoying it,
Starting point is 00:18:51 which is so nice to hear, isn't it? Yeah, it's lovely. Oh, should we have another one? Yeah. Cool. It's Tess. And Elliot. From Poole, just wanted to say we love the pod
Starting point is 00:19:01 and we listen together when we can. Love Gavin and Stacey, and really enjoyed the EastEnders week, especially the live episode which also had live audio description which is great because we're both blind. We also really enjoy all the Gavin and Stacey watched them all from the beginning and we love that over Christmas that really made our Christmas day. Love you both and just a final message here from my partner Tess or should I say Ness. Oh Stace those sandals they gotta go get some new Birkenstocks maybe some Regatus maybe
Starting point is 00:19:37 something comfy or for your dick like and whilst you're there put that onesie through the washers tanking and can smelt it from there. Tidy. That was brilliant. Oh my God, that's really good. Really, really brilliant. What a couple. Yes. I want to go out with them, I bet they'll go off. You know, I actually wore my sandals out for the school run the other day, so they are
Starting point is 00:19:59 coming out and I'm properly wearing them now. Yeah, it's getting cold again, so maybe put them away. I know, I know. It's getting chilly again. I'm wearing like them now. Yeah, it's getting cold again so maybe put them away. I know, I know. It's getting chilly again. I'm wearing like a massive jumper today as well. And now I've got a big woolly coat on. What's happening? It's just the way it is.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Yeah. There's nothing we can do about it, Jo. I think we've got one last voice note. I've just been watching the Megan documentary on Netflix. It's got quite a lot of different sorts of views. Try and take a look at it. It's really quite interesting. I'm watching her. She does kids' parties, cooking, has friends over, and it's really some nice tips, especially with the summer coming. Some nice little ideas.
Starting point is 00:20:40 Anyway, keep up the good work, ladies. All the best. Lots of love. Oh, thank you. Is she talking about Meghan Markle? Meghan Markle's thing. Oh, I can't, I can't. I tell you what, right, I think I've watched- It's not that I don't like her. I think I've watched three episodes. So what is she doing in it? So it's her life?
Starting point is 00:20:56 Is it kind of organizing? No, it's her like hostessing. So basically you go to, it's not her home, it's like a kitchen that she's cooking in and stuff. And, you know, she's not her home, it's like a kitchen that she's cooking in and stuff. And, you know, she's doing little things about like, say you were having a kids party or say you've got somebody coming over or I do have to say I watched three episodes. And I'm not going to say like too much on it because I do think that we should spend a thing on it. Let's do it. But it did send me it was quite nice because it sent me to sleep. Okay. And so
Starting point is 00:21:22 and there was one bit where I just thought she's got her like makeup artist coming over and she's, you know, doing all different bits and bobs to look after him and entertain him when he comes over. And she's made this and she's done that. And it's just, well, there's this one bit where she then says about him coming over and after they've done this, that and the other,
Starting point is 00:21:43 they're going to melt beeswax together and make candles. Oh fuck me. Can you just imagine your makeup artist coming around. Where's Aaron? What's Aaron doing? Oh God knows he's probably in the garden doing God only knows what he's looking after the kids or something. I would like to do it. It's hilarious. Hello I'm Robin Ince. And I'm Brian Cox. And we would like to tell you about the new series of The Infinite Monkey Cage. We're going to have a planetar. Jupiter versus Saturn!
Starting point is 00:22:13 Well, it's very well done that because in the script it does say wrestling voice. After all of that, it's going to kind of chill out a bit and talk about ice. And also in this series, we're history of music, recording with Brian Eno and looking at nature's shapes. So listen wherever you get your podcasts. Towards Zero, the Agatha Christie. Did you watch it all? I did.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Oh good. But it wasn't my favourite ever one but I was really drawn into it. It's on BBC iPlayer. So you can watch like, it's three episodes, which I loved, because it's not too long. And so you can watch all of them. So I started watching it and I loved the cast. It's got the gorgeous Matthew Rees,
Starting point is 00:22:57 who plays like the detective in it. I was in Radar at the same time as him. When I was in my first year, he was in the second year. And he's absolutely gorgeous and so, so lovely, right? It's very slow, but I was kind of mesmerized by the performances. And so, I watched all three back to back, and I will say that I enjoyed it. It wasn't like, you know, how I desperately love Death on the Nile or things like that. But I thought the performances were brilliant. And do you know, right, I was watching it and do you know the main blonde actress Ella Lily Highland? I was watching it and I kept thinking, I mean, and she's just so poised
Starting point is 00:23:34 and so kind of regal, most amazing English accent, just fantastic features and just found her mesmerizing in the way she held herself herself and I thought she was brilliant but I kept thinking I know her face I know her face how the hell do I know this actress so I had to stop and I searched up oh my god and you will never guess who she is and what she's played. Go on. Do you know when we watch well you might not know right because I don't know how much of it you watched right and I don't think you watched as much of it as I did but you know Black Doves you know the very strong Irish accent assassin woman it's her no way yes yes hello to you what an actress back in but to get those parts and to do all the accent you know it's just really special isn't it you've got to have a chance to do it though yeah and then I just had to keep
Starting point is 00:24:22 watching it because I just love watching all the performances. Well, I have to say I didn't. Yeah, how far did you get? Not long. How long did you get? Well, I didn't enjoy the performances. Yeah, but. I just couldn't get along with it. Yeah, it was quite slow, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:24:36 I found it really slow, but I do love all of that era. I do love the hair and the fashion and I just love all of that. I did find it quite slow, not going to lie to you. But I was then watching it going, oh, oh, this is all she's coming to the court now. Oh, she's the one who's had the affair with him and whatever. I'm looking at that girl. Kay, I know that face. Where do I know her from? I really know that face. Mimi Keane, she was in EastEnders years and years ago. She was only a young child. She was a lovely young girl. I can't believe how brilliant she's done, how well she's done. Do you know she's in sex education as well?
Starting point is 00:25:25 She has done so brilliantly well. And it makes me proud because I remember her bumbling around at work, being quite young, leaving EastEnders saying, oh, I hope you do well. I love seeing people from soap do really well. Do you know what I mean? It makes me really proud because there's a lot of people that say once you're in a soap you don't do anything. There's loads of people that go off and do so, so well. Loads, loads. That was really lovely to see because I thought
Starting point is 00:25:48 she was great. I thought she was incredible. Yeah. Where your career can go. It's brilliant. Yeah. I've got another question for you. Yes, yeah. I don't know if this is, well I don't care. I'm going to say it anyway. Do you not find, I do find it odd sometimes when the main man just seems very much older than the two women? Oh yes, yes. Well that's like, I would say that's the acting world in general isn't it? No I know but it's weird. Yeah, yeah. I'm just watching it going, you're a bit old mate for these two.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Yeah. Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm being rude to Oliver Jackson Cohen. But I would just say that that's what it's like, like everywhere in the acting world. Yeah. And it just made me think about that. Yeah. But it's true though, isn't it? I mean, you know, women as actresses, I just feel like that's really normal. That happens all the time. So that's just it. But then if there's a show with an older woman and a younger man, that's the story. Yeah. There's also been a whole lot of talk about how sexual the whole thing has been. Because there's like a sex scene on the stairs. You wouldn't have got this far, would you?
Starting point is 00:26:59 You wouldn't have got this far. Is this in the Agatha Christie? Sorry, we're still there. Yes, this is in the Agatha Christie. There's like a sex scene on the staircase which everybody is all up in arms about. They end up getting all sexy with each other and then they end up going down the stairs and he's on his knees, he's lifted her skirt up and he's like underneath her skirt going for it. And there's been uproar about it apparently because people are saying it's far too sexy. Which I thought was quite interesting because you don't actually see anything at all.
Starting point is 00:27:29 No. Nothing at all, but everybody's quite up in arms about it. You might have been helping her do her stockings up. I think he was helping her with something. Well, I'm just saying, people's minds, you don't know. Yeah. Part of her dress could have come apart, it could have been sewn up there. People's imaginations. But yeah I enjoyed it and I think I enjoyed how it was quite slow and I thought it was quite,
Starting point is 00:28:01 I sort of just, I just enjoyed relaxing into just watching it. Yeah, I think I was very, very busy. And I did, I did want to be slow and I put it on Sunday morning in bed thinking I'm just going to put it on the, that's what I did. The first thing I woke up, just so you know everyone, you were on my mind straight away. I woke up Sunday morning and I thought I've got off the telly to do, I'm'm gonna put it on right now before the day gets started. Yeah. And then what? I don't know what happened. Then Joni ran in and she was shouting and someone else said something. I thought, oh, cut this. Can't watch this now. I think I was watching it like of an evening when I think I'd cut up with Bo
Starting point is 00:28:41 and I had time to just go, oh, I'm just gonna let time just go, oh, you know. Oh, oh. Is that what it does, time? Yes. I'd like to be in your house. It never goes, oh, in my house. But yes, I did think the acting was great and I'm sure if I stick with it, it'll be
Starting point is 00:29:00 good. And that is on BBC iPlayer. Yes. Oh, we were doing big boys. Big boys. Now this is a comedy you can watch all three series of big boys on Channel 4. Again, something I'd never come across so thank you for your recommendation. I absolutely love it. I think it has such a heart. Oh my god, it's got so much heart. I think the boys in it are brilliant. I love the mum. The mum's in King Gary. She plays
Starting point is 00:29:32 one of the mums in King Gary as well. Camille Caduri, she's brilliant. John Pointon who plays Danny I just think is absolutely brilliant. Oh my god, he's just so lovely. Obviously Jack Rook, it's all about his life and he narrates it and I just love the honesty from series one. I started at series one. Me too. Because I want to watch it from the beginning because you want to know don't you. I started, I was very tearful. I cried all the way through it.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Well you know the grief of losing his dad at the beginning. Sorry spoiler alert if you haven't seen it but it won't spoil it for you, but it starts off with him and his mum and he's so close to his mum and obviously it's about him being gay and losing his dad and going off to uni, friendship, love and it's just bittersweet, funny. I just think it's really really good. It's just, oh my god, it started and I just started crying because Dylan Llewellyn who plays Jack, he's like the actor doing it but all the way through like the beginning of it you have got Jack Rock just his own voice narrating it and talking and it's just so vulnerable and so real.
Starting point is 00:30:40 So real. It's just, I just started crying and then you've got Dylan Llewellyn then who's playing him and there's just something just, I just started crying. And then you've got Dylan Llewellyn then who's playing him. And there's just something just, oh my God. There's such a naivety about him, isn't there? Yeah, yeah. And he's very open. So open and just so innocent.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Yeah, I really liked him. He's so lovely. And then he goes off to university. And, oh my God, I just cried because I just thought, oh my God, when, you know, that's going to happen. And when he's taken down all of his posters and then he gets to his, you know, and he doesn't really want to go out drinking or anything. And I just thought, I just sat there crying because I thought
Starting point is 00:31:11 Eva is going to go off somewhere, you know, and everybody else will be staying home and you know, the other kids will still be small and we're all going to have to like say goodbye to her. And Danny is so lovely to Jack. He's so lovely. He's so kind. It's just, I thought it was just the whole thing right, it's funny. Yeah but you will cry. You'll cry. It's just so, and you'll just want to get your, you know. Well I'm really looking forward to it because there's been three series of it. Yeah. So I'm only starting out now
Starting point is 00:31:40 and I'm really looking forward to getting through it and I think Eliza will really enjoy it so I might tell Eliza to watch it as well. It's really good isn't it? Yeah. Oh it just makes you want to go and get your son or daughter and just give them a big hug and tell them how much you love them. Yeah. It's just gorgeous. And clever things happen as well, like the letter from his dad. Yes and it's the wrong one. It's the wrong one. So there's all those moments which should be really brilliant that don't quite happen and how many times has that happened in life you know. You want it to be right but it's not quite right. And you just want to look after him because he doesn't want to go out drinking and because he's not done
Starting point is 00:32:20 any of that and he doesn't really want to. Oh my god and what about when he starts kissing the other fella so he's not really in his nose ring. His hair gets stuck in the guy's nose ring. It's really, oh god it's just adorable. It's life lessons and it's all about growing up. But it's adult as well, it's not childlike. I think you'll really like it. I think everyone should give it a go. Yeah, but you'll cry through it. And again, especially if you've got, you know, older teenagers. Yeah. I just feel from, you know, 14, 15, again, I think these programs are so educational for our children to sit and watch them and learn from them and cringe at them and like this is growing up, you know. Can you believe though, a time is going to come when hours go. I was watching it just thinking oh my god I can't believe
Starting point is 00:33:10 Eva not being here. That Eva's going to go. I mean she's going to go and it's not actually going to be that long. No I lies I won't go anywhere. Do you think she'll stay? Yeah no I'll just pry her for us. Well I'm just thinking I hope that, well where we are, I mean she should be able to like, well I said to her, if you do go into London, you know, then you can come home to us every night. That's right. Because it's not far in the train, she went, I'm not going to be living with you. Oh fair enough.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Fair enough. Now Eliza's quite, she's quite up for staying at the moment. Really? But I'm sure she will want to spread her wings. But to be honest, yeah, there's no point in worrying because they all end up coming home. I mean they'll all be living with me probably when they're in their 30s. Absolutely. Driving us mad. Yeah. Not going to be able to afford to buy anywhere are they? So no. They'll do what they've got to do. They'll be back at 24 driving us mad till
Starting point is 00:33:58 they're 34. They will. We'll be begging them to go. Yeah, yeah. Begging them. And I mean, I had Bo so late that I mean, I'm going to be well into my 60s. You're not that late. Forty four. Same age as my mum was when she had me. Really? Yeah. Well, I just thought, you know, I'm going to be like quite old, you know, when she gets to like 18 and wanting to go and do.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Sixty one you'll be. I don't want to know. Oh, my God. I can't believe you even just said it. Well, I lost my mom at 19 Didn't I? Oh Sorry to make you feel bad, but no that's different. I'm not saying you're gonna die when they're 19 hopefully not I've never ever calculated before. Oh god, how old I'm gonna be 62 63
Starting point is 00:34:44 Jesus shut up! That's not old, what are you talking about? But it will be, I'm gonna be knackered by then. No, you'll have a new lease of life by then. Oh my gosh, I've just recently now gone, okay, I'm gonna get Bo into starting to do like nursery type stuff. So she's three now and I'm holding off until September. Yeah, get her in, what's the matter with you? Mine went in, I was like, how old did you take them from? Nine months, there you go, have them for three days. Right now, before we go, we've got time to hear a recommendation from a listener.

I listen to it every time it comes on and yeah so yeah I've got my notifications on. It's so easy to do. So yeah the one I want to recommend is actually it's on Netflix and it's a four-part series and it's called Toxic Town. It's been dubbed at the British Erin Brockovich story. Oh thank thank you. Thank you so much. Toxic Town, should we do it? Yes, I think we should.
Starting point is 00:35:50 It's only four parts as well. Yes. I'll get going on it. So make sure I watch more. I promise. I really promise. These recommendations are absolutely brilliant for us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I mean, they're so, so good, aren't they? Yeah, not just and also for the listeners at home. Yeah. We don't get around to it. They get to hear what's around which is brilliant isn't it? Yeah. Right I think that's it. That's it. That's good.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Yeah. That was brilliant wasn't it? Yeah well we've done quite a lot there. We have done a lot. Now you know how much I love my comedies. Yes.
