BBC Sounds, music, radio, podcasts.
Hello and welcome to Off The Telly from BBC Sounds.
I'm Natalie Cassidy.
And I'm Joanna Page.
And this is the podcast where we have a chat about what telly we've been watching this week.
Well before we start, we will let you know that there might be some swearing,
because we will get passionate about what we're talking about.
And there will be maybe a few spoilers.
Yeah, so look out for those.
So, what have we been up to this week?
Well, it's been a busy old week.
Yes, it has, hasn't it?
A busy, busy old week.
But, yeah, again, great choices for telly.
Yes, lovely.
Very interesting.
Ones which my kids enjoyed and liked.
Yeah.
So yeah, a lot to watch.
And a couple of things that I have to say.
Great telly for whoever loves it.
Yeah.
But I found it quite hard to get into a couple of them.
So I'm looking forward to talking to you to see what you think, actually.
Yes.
So the shows that we are talking about this week,
we're talking about Beyond Paradise on BBC iPlayer,
Made in Chelsea on E4 and Red Eye on ITV.
Right. Let's go then, shall we? Let's talk telly.
We've had quite a few of you listeners sending us in messages about Beyond Paradise,
which is a show on the BBC and it's a
spin-off of Death in Paradise which was a detective series which has done incredibly well and people
love and Beyond Paradise is the same sort of thing but set in this country. I personally think that
this is just the most wonderful job to get on because you get to do,
like I like my Midsommar Murders,
I like my Marples.
So I like a murder mystery,
which is a nice gentle one
that I can do a jigsaw and drink sherry
at the same time.
Yeah.
But can you imagine,
you get to do a murder mystery,
but you get to film it down in Cornwall.
It's like the best of both worlds.
Stop.
Don't dress it up.
I'll tell you why.
Lovely to be down there.
But I'd rather be in the Caribbean.
Well, I wouldn't.
I wouldn't.
Because have you noticed that,
because, well, obviously,
beyond Paradise,
I think, you know,
there was the death in Paradise.
In Paradise.
Yes, in Paradise.
But then all of the detectives after a while in real life,
you know, the actors, end up leaving.
Because, I mean, the reality of that when you've got kids.
I know.
And you're married.
I know.
And you're flipping heck, it must be hard work.
I know a cameraman who used to do Death in Paradise.
Yeah.
And yeah, he was away all the time.
Oh, God.
And I did used to feel sorry for his wife.
Yeah, I got a call in to do Death in Paradise
Yeah
And I think the kids were only young
I think I was still feeding
Yeah
And I turned it down
Because you just can't
I think Death in Paradise is cracking
If you're single
You haven't got any kids yet
And you basically just want to go on holiday and get pissed
Yeah
And do a little bit of work on the side
So do you think Chris Marshall now,
that he's a bit of an older man.
Sorted now.
He's sorted.
I think he's sorted.
He's had a great time out there.
He's come home.
Yeah.
He's got his family.
Yeah.
And he's just doing a little bit of filming up the road
in lovely pretty pictures.
If it was me, I'd move down Cornwall.
Yeah.
I'd get my wetsuit.
I'd start taking body boarding lessons.
And then I'd be like, oh God,
tomorrow I'm doing a bit of filming
and then I'd go in and I would be the um what's it called the one who goes around looking at the
dead bodies oh yeah beginning with p yeah the pathologist pathologist yeah bit of bodyboarding
pathologist on the side lovely that's me sorted I mean what more could you want nothing nothing
more I'd be happy with that is it set in Corn Well, we have info that it is set in Devon,
but quite a lot of it is filmed in Cornwall.
It's because Cornwall's the best place in the UK.
Really?
Oh, is it?
Weren't you on holiday in Cornwall recently?
Yeah, it's my favourite.
Because I was looking at your Instagram going,
oh, God, that looks nice.
Yeah, absolutely picturesque, beautiful.
Let's talk about the show.
Yeah.
Because, so I nice. Yeah, absolutely picturesque, beautiful. Let's talk about the show. Yeah. Because, so I put it on and I'd watched Baby Reindeer, okay?
Yes.
And then I thought, right, I'm going to start this one
because I've got a little list, haven't we,
and our watches and what we're going to watch.
So I'd finished that.
I thought, wow, what a show.
I can't believe it.
And then I popped this on and I had to turn it off
because I thought
it's such a polar opposite program.
Not that it's bad,
but it was so opposite
that I just,
my brain was like,
oh, what's this?
So then I turned it off,
I left it
and then I turned it back on
another day
and couldn't get into it.
Turn it off.
I thought,
I don't know what I'm going to do here.
But I listened to it in the car
because I have a long journey into work
and put it on, watched it
and I really enjoyed it in the end.
Yes.
Because I thought, no, just go with it.
Let your brain settle.
See it for what it is.
It is, again, a comfort watch it is gentle the one i watched was um this
this current series the first episode and it's set on a steam train so you've got the steam engine
and all that and then it's about a murder mystery group um and there was a real like murder on the
it's like an amdram group if you like and they're performing a murder real murder on the... It's like an Amdram group, if you like,
and they're performing a murder mystery on the train.
I want to watch that one. I like the sound of it.
And it's like a modern-day Poirot Marple.
Do you know what I mean?
Once you get into it, you go,
all right, I know what I'm watching here.
I know what I'm getting into.
And actually really liked it.
And I thought of you, Jo.
Did you really?
I really thought of you.
At what point? I'll tell you what point. Sally Breton and Chris Marshall, and they And I thought of you, Jo. Did you really? I really thought of you. At what point?
I'll tell you what point.
Sally Breton and Chris Marshall, and they're a couple in it,
and in this series, spoilers, they're fostering,
they're going to start fostering,
and they're having a chat and they're having dinner or whatever,
and it's all lovely.
And I thought, they've both been in sitcoms.
Yes.
Chris Marshall, very, very well known for my family when he was younger,
and obviously Sally
is in the wonderful
Not Going Out
with Lee Mack
you can do a Marple
whenever you want love
I can
they can flip between
the comedy
to the murder mystery
murder yes
and I thought of you
what do you think
oh I like that very much
there you go
I would love to be
in something like this
I would too
for an episode
oh I'd like to be
a permanent pathologist
the quirky pathologist.
The quirky pathologist.
Or somebody who works in the office.
I can bring teas and coffees.
And I don't want anything too much,
because I just want to be still bodyboarding on the sly.
Yeah, no, lovely.
Down on the beach.
But yeah, I love Sally Brett, and I love her in Not Going Out.
There's something about her that now is just so familiar.
Yeah.
And so lovely.
Yeah, she's very pretty as well, isn't she? She's so nice.
She's so lovely.
And just her way.
Yes, I think you're right, the familiarity of her.
And him.
And I like her face.
She's so open and so warm.
And I think that her costume looks like it's out of, you know, like toast.
Oh, yes.
Out of the toast catalogue or something.
Bowdoins.
Yeah.
I just like it.
I like the scenery.
I just like the feel.
I just love those whole sorts of...
I really like her mum.
Yes.
And in this episode, she's lost her dad or whatever,
and she starts dating the mum, and she's really worried about her.
So she pops round there when the date's round,
because she has a date round, and she's at the door with her mum,
and it's really funny.
She says, Mum, I just popped round.
I wonder if you've got some milk.
But she's got it all lined up at the door,
as if she knows what she's going to say.
But listen, it is just very easy watching.
It's not going to make you, you know,
your world spin around, I don't think.
But it was nice and it's just, it's comforting.
Comfort.
And the pace, I like the pace and it's quite gentle.
I liked Felicity Montague who, you know,
was Alan Partridge's, you know, like assistant.
Carbed out lead.
And I think she's brilliant.
I loved Barbara Flynn.
I like the whole cast.
I like Barbara Flynn because I like watching her because I just always remember her as, you know, Cracker, Robbie Coltrane.
Yes, I do remember it.
Cracker's wife.
I used to love watching her.
And it's this cast of just like fab people. Yeah, Stella cast remember it. Cracker's wife. I used to love watching her. And it's this cast of
just like fab people. Yeah, stellar cast.
And I like the gentle pace. I really liked
the police detective,
the fella, who was embarrassed
because he fancies the policewoman.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was all quite quirky.
It's all just very easy
watching and
if it rains on a Sunday afternoon
I would put it on. Yes yes that's how I would describe
it I'm not going to jump or go out of my way to watch another one but if that popped on the telly
just before the antiques roadshow on a Sunday I'd leave it on yes that's so true yeah I don't know
if it will beat my Midsomer Murder and Marvelple Obsession. But I think I'm going to watch another episode
because I quite like the sound of the am-dram on the train.
Yeah.
Now that does sound like my cup of tea.
It's a little bit Marple and it's a little bit...
Yeah.
No, it's lovely.
The producer is Lindsay Hughes,
who was the producer for the first ever series of Gavin and Stacey.
Oh, right, OK.
Yeah.
And the writer's Tony Jordan, who used to write Freestenders.
Oh, my God, we've both got two connections.
There you go, maybe we can get in there.
I'll be the pathologist.
What are you going to be?
I'm just going to pop in for a guest.
You can't be a guest
if you had to be someone permanent on it.
What sort of character would you be?
Oh, I'd always be the cleaner or someone.
You like being a cleaner, don't you?
I'd like to be a cleaner or a cook or something, you know.
Yeah, a little bit of that going on.
You always like being the cleaner or the cook.
I can be the nosy neighbour.
Yes.
Just keeps popping round.
With a bun or with some cake that she's baked.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I always like being the slightly quirky but nice one that's got some connection to some form of murder or something.
Death.
Death.
The cleaner and the one who brings death.
Yeah.
Perfect.
Right, shall we move on?
Well, yes.
Oh, so our next one is Made in Chelsea,
which you can catch on E4.
Now, I have to say...
Made in hell-cy.
Made in hell-cy.
I haven't watched this, right, in years.
No, neither have I.
But I was a huge fan in the very, very, very beginning.
Well, for those of you who don't know what Made in Chelsea is,
it is a structured reality show
that's been going for years and years and years
and has made stars out of Jamie Lang and Sam Thompson.
And, yeah, it just follows the lives of young, cool people
that live in Chelsea.
I loved watching all the foppish men with their long hair And yeah, it just follows the lives of young, cool people that live in Chelsea.
I loved watching all the foppish men with their long hair and all of the lovely girls with their long, shiny hair
and their lovely names and all of their makeup
and being in Chelsea and all this posh stuff,
which was just the complete opposite to my life.
And the whole thing with Millie, who I now follow because she's now a mother and I like looking at her make-up tips
and Spencer.
I loved all of that but I've not seen the modern one for years.
Well, I haven't watched Made in Chelsea really at all
throughout my whole life.
Yeah.
But I've worked with lovely Jamie Lang, who was in it,
wasn't he, years ago?
Yes, yes.
He's really lovely and obviously now I've followed,
because I watched I'm a Celebrity, Sam Thompson, who was in it and I really followed Because I watched I'm a Celebrity
Sam Thompson who was in it
And I really like him because of I'm a Celebrity
I think he's really good
So yeah I turned this on
And I have to be honest with you
It really isn't my cup of tea
What did you think?
I thought why am I watching people
In a really stupid scenario
Like at one point They were stood in a furniture shop.
Oh, yes.
Talking about an affair or what have you.
And then the bloke walks in that they're talking about.
And you think, why has he walked into the furniture shop
when they're shopping for something?
And they just stand there.
And they just sort of stand there.
And they're all very wooden.
Yeah.
But, you know, they're not actors.
I get it.
I might have to go at them because they're not actors, are they?
Or are they?
No, no.
They're not, are they?
No, they're normal people.
But they're putting...
But they are improvising.
I mean, they are, which is kind of pretty hard.
It is, actually.
I listened to an interview once with Spencer,
who was from the very beginning,
and he was saying that, you know, you'd be sort of given a scenario
or they'd kind of want to keep check with you throughout the week and say, what's going on with you?
And then you might go, oh, I've broken up with my girlfriend or things looking bad between us.
And then they'd say, right, then turn up, you know, to the cafe tomorrow.
And we're going to basically just have a chat.
And then or you might be talking with your best friend about, oh, my God, I've done this and it's just gone awful.
And then the fellow you're supposed to be dating suddenly walks in because they've set it up.
And then you've just got to, like, improvise and get on with it it's quite a
difficult one that is quite hard and i quite like how abrupt sometimes the endings are when they
just go okay well i'm just gonna leave now yeah yeah turn around and just go yeah yeah yeah but
i i when i first started watching it i thought oh i can't i can't get into it it's not the same
it's not the characters and the real life people people that I used to watch. I really like the French girl.
Yes, but then Miva started speaking.
And I dipped into it a few years ago when she was in it and she had long hair at the time.
And I think there'd been a bit of a to-do dial
between her and her boyfriend at the time.
And then I haven't then seen it for years.
And she's now had her hair cut and she was looking really good.
She was really French
and she just seemed really interesting.
Yeah, very much so.
And then, oh Jesus, it didn't take me long.
I mean, they were sitting there chatting.
He is really annoyed
because they've just had a baby
and they're not having any sex.
I was like, are you kidding me?
The baby's, I think, not very old
and you're moaning at her
because she's not having sex with you.
It's just when they were talking about the sex therapy they're going to a sex therapist
she's annoyed because he's spoken to one of his mates and said we're going to a sex therapist
and his friend's gone back and told her that he knows it took me a couple of minutes bomb i was
in there i was like right what's going on where's the sex therapist are we going to see it what's
going on what's happening you were in i was in her hair was really nice yeah i what she was wearing. I liked listening to all of the stuff going on. I like
that bit of the world. It's nice to see a bit of Chelsea, but to be honest, I can just hop on a
train and go there myself. I know, but you won't get involved, will you? I won't mind you unless
you do people watching. It's basically like people watching, which I enjoy doing without the effort.
I can just sit on my sofa and do it. But what I have found in these latest episodes
is that I don't think they're
as posh as before. They're all really
young. Well, that's obviously because I'm now old.
But all of the boys
have got, like, really short
hair. Like, really
short hair. And, I don't know, the way that they're
dressed just doesn't remind me
of, like, the foppish olden days of
when they just seemed really posh.
Well, I know, but that's because the style's changed, isn't it?
Clothing style?
Well, and the hair and the buzz cut.
Do you think so? Jesus, I'm still wearing the same things I wore
20 years ago. I've not moved on
completely.
But I thought, God, they don't seem
as posh. I think it's amazing
though, how those reality shows,
your TOWIE, your Made in Chelsea, how successful they have been.
And it is because people are nosy.
Yeah, I'm nosy.
People are nosy.
People do want to peer into other people's lives.
Do you know what it did make me think?
It's quite amazing how well they've done.
Yeah.
It made me think, bloody hell, I can't be bothered to go dating now.
No.
I mean, all of the
he slept with her
and he was found
in that person's bed
at the wedding
and then they were doing this
and then
well have you seen his sheet
and I just thought
oh and then
there's another girl
and she's gone on a date
with somebody else
and still keeping up the effort
well there was one
that I was watching
they were having a double date
yes
so there's a double date
going on
and she had a nickname
of some sort
Muffin Muffin that was it Muffin I think her name is she had a nickname of some sort Muffin
Muffin that was it
Muffin
I think her name is Julia
but she's referred to as Muffin
I don't know if I would
come out with that
on a first date would you
I don't know
my name's Julia
but people call me Muffin
I'm not sure about that
just call me Muffin
Muffin
the producer must have said
to say something funny
you know what's quirky about you and she said my nickname's Muffin and then shein. The producer must have said, say something funny. You know, what's quirky about you?
And she said, my nickname's Muffin.
And then she had to say it, the poor cow.
God.
What would you be like then on that?
I mean, I just don't, I couldn't do the dating.
What would I be like on it?
Yeah.
I just think, I couldn't do the dating, the effort.
Yeah, but you say that.
It is their life, isn't it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or unless it's all made up.
But part of it is a bit their life with
their friends is it i don't bloody know i get all confused i think that it's you know keeping tabs
on what's happening in your life let us know if something interesting is going we'll turn up and
we'll film do you think that could get really stressful yeah i do actually yeah i was talking
to james the other day and we were talking about God can you imagine if we did a reality show together
because we were talking about
would we
oh I'd love to move somewhere
and have some pigs and animals
and then I said
oh God you know
can you imagine us doing a reality show
and he said oh God I don't know what they'd film
and I was like well
this right now
with us bickering and arguing in the kitchen
I think we'd probably find it quite easy
because we were arguing about how I want pigs
and sheep and stuff.
And he was like,
Jesus, can't we just have a normal life?
We've got four kids, I'm knackered.
Please don't involve pigs into it as well.
I think that you should take James' advice.
I'm with James.
Yeah, I think you should just bring the kids up now
and let's get them through the hard years.
And then you can just have a lovely life
and have a better time with James.
You don't need pigs and shit
I don't think there's
going to be any time
with James
Bo's only two
by the time she grows up
I'm going to be dead
I'm dead
I'm literally going
to go from
they go off to university
dead
there's no retirement
there's no retirement
they're going to go
we'll wave them off
we'll sit down
in the chair
we won't wake up again
oh my god
well I love your positive take on life Jo really pleased about that shave them off, we'll sit down in the chair, we won't wake up again. Oh, my God.
Well, I love your positive take on life, Jo.
Really pleased about that. After watching this, I thought,
I want to know what's going to happen with Miva or Maeva.
Maeva, with Maeva.
Yeah.
And also, I've got to be honest, Maeva,
I was a little bit annoyed with him going on,
saying that they're, you know, talking about their sex life.
She's just had a flipping baby, for goodness sake.
She's knackered.
Piss off.
Give her a flipping rest.
Absolutely.
Go and rub her feet for five minutes.
I was going to say, go and rub something else
and be on your own for a bit and leave her alone, quite frankly.
But it's like, go and give her a foot massage.
Yeah.
Give her a cup of tea and some crisps.
Oh, anyway.
Well, I tell you what, it worked on me.
I dipped into it and I was like
straight back in there again. No, thank you.
It's not for me. If I was watching reality,
if I wanted to watch something reality,
I'd probably look at Love is Blind
or Married at First Sight. I think I'd go
down that route because I think this
is just full of young,
really young people. I've just got nothing really.
I do think you get to a certain age where they are very young
and I sort of think, oh, I can't be bothered with the
just going to different bars, going bowling, going whatever, I think.
And the just general chit-chat about...
Nothing, nothing.
Like Love Island, innit?
Yeah.
Although, flippin' heck, I love a bit of Love Island as well.
It's just not really up my street, but that's just me.
So, listeners, what do you think about Made in Chelsea? Send us a message or, even better, leave us a bit of Love Island as well. It's just not really up my street, but that's just me. So, listeners, what do you think about Made in Chelsea?
Send us a message or even better, leave us a voice note.
Right, on to our third and final show, Red Eye.
Now, I'd heard a lot of talk about this.
Me too, a lot of buzz.
Yeah, so I thought, right, come on then, let's have a look.
I sat down with the kids and I thought, right, come on then. Let's have a look. I sat down with the kids. Yeah.
And I thought, I don't think, well, Eva could watch it, but I thought, I don't think it's suitable for the smallest.
No.
But we put it on and we started watching.
And they absolutely loved it.
Now, it made me angry to begin with.
So it is on ITV.
Mm-hmm.
And it starts with this doctor.
He's in Beijing and it looks like he's escaping from some sort of club.
It does.
The people are chasing after him.
He gets in a car.
He's bombing off.
He has a car crash.
Well, he bombs off, but he's been stabbed.
He's been wounded in the side.
Then he gets to the airport.
He's landed in this country, but he hasn't gone through customs.
Yeah.
He hasn't gone through there yet.
He gets stopped and they say, listen, we need to talk to you.
Passport control.
Yeah.
We need to talk to you because a woman has been murdered.
She was in a car crash and they think that he's done it.
He's saying that he hasn't.
And it stars Richard Armitage.
Yes.
And it started.
I was a bit like, sorry, I don't get this.
I mean, why does he not have a lawyer?
And then they said that he, you know, didn't have any of his rights
and he couldn't have a lawyer.
He couldn't have a phone call.
Because he was in the UK, but he'd not passed.
But he's not passed.
But really, I mean, the policeman, the bald policeman who was in there
was really starting to piss me off.
Yeah, yeah.
Because he was a bit like arsey.
He was an arse.
When the female police detective came in,
and, you know, she made her way there,
and then when she took Richard Armitage onto the plane,
she was so sort of arsey with him and a bit sort of that,
I thought, well, that's not very unbiased.
You don't actually know if he is guilty,
and you're having a right old go at him here.
No, you're quite right,
and everything's sort of around that, isn't it?
And then there's four researchers on the plane.
Yeah.
That are about to get off.
The doctor, who we're talking about,
Richard Armitage character,
the doctor is obviously flown back from Beijing
with the four researchers.
They keep them on the plane.
One of them gets off.
What's going to happen to him?
He goes to the airport,
goes to open his car,
gets kidnapped.
Oh, yes.
Not heard from him again.
Where are you? I've done episode, I to open his car, gets kidnapped. Not heard from him again. Where are you?
I've done episode, I've done about one and three quarters.
I finished episode one and all the kids were like, we want to watch more.
We want to watch more.
I was angry when it first started because I thought, oh, come on now.
This can't be.
And then when he's about to get on the plane and he's got, he wasn't handcuffed.
And then he starts running and then they couldn't find him.
I thought, oh, that's a little bit ridiculous. They would find would find him and then i'm sorry i got blinked and dragged in and
hooked in and i'm enjoying it one thing i would say though yeah is me and mark are watching this
one together and one thing i will say as soon as he said i'll give my meal over oh yeah mark rent
that's got poison in it he's gonna die yes it is a bit one of those. You can see things are going to happen.
But the twists and turns might get better.
But my guess, it's not my guess, it's Mark's guess.
My guess is that he has found something to do with maybe Chinese nuclear warfare or something, and he's got something massive
that they've got to get rid of him and his team
because it's so massive.
There's something like that.
I don't know.
I'd be interested to carry it.
I'm going to carry it on.
Yeah, it's got me hooked.
I'm interested.
When he went and had a look at the tray
and it was like, well, this was meant for him.
And then the dog died.
When did the dog die?
Well, maybe that's episode two.
I apologise.
The dog has a...
So sorry.
You know, the little dog on the...
But you know what?
When the police...
Oh, my God!
Yeah, I'm so sorry.
But when the police...
Was it the...
Yeah, there's a man
that gets on the plane
in episode one
in plain clothes
and he puts his bag up.
Well, I thought he's the undercover.
Well, Mark went, well, you can't have a gun on a plane.
But he's the undercover cop, isn't he?
He's like, but you can't have a gun on a plane.
It doesn't even matter if you're a cop.
I was like, really?
No.
Well, I don't know.
No, isn't there that person, or is it only in America?
There's that person who gets on the plane,
and there's always that undercover.
He's got a special name.
Is he?
Yes, and I don't know what it is.
Superman?
An air marshal.
An air marshal, okay.
It's an air marshal.
Is that only in America or is it in this country?
Because when he got on and I saw the gun, I thought,
oh, he's the air marshal.
Oh, right, okay.
He's going to save the day.
So I'm intrigued.
But then also, I'm watching it and some bits,
do you find that it goes a bit like soft focus in the corners
or is that me needing glasses?
See, for you needing glasses or it might be your telly
fuzzing out because you're watching so much of it, you might need
a new telly. Because, you know... No, I'm
not sure. It's my answer. My real answer.
Because, you know, the family of the
female police detective...
Yes, when they're all playing games.
When they go round there, and sometimes in the corners
of the screen, it's looking a bit soft focus
to me.
And I'm finding it a bit like I want it to be,
oh my God, this is making me think I need an eye test.
Well, I'll check it out later.
I want it to get a bit sharper.
I'll see if it's sharp when I get home.
But yeah, but I am intrigued.
I did think if Richard Armitage was running through the airport,
he's massive.
You'd see him running.
They wouldn't be like, where's he gone?
Where's he gone?
But I liked it.
I liked it. It's dramatic. It was exciting. exciting i liked it i want to know what he's done yeah all the kids got incredibly excited when they saw the airport that it was in because we
flew to tennessee from there last year and i was like oh look that's where we went and had food
brilliant so they loved it over the moon as if they're on the telly yes yeah perfect but i want
to know where i want to know where research number four's gone.
Always been put in the van.
Do you know, I used that as an opportunity to do some stranger danger.
Because I said, I thought, as I was saying it, I thought, oh, is this a bit too much?
But I started saying it.
No, it's never too much.
Do you know when you park somewhere, I said, if a van pulls up next to you,
or if you go back to the car park and a van is parked right next to you, just leave the car.
Go off, walk somewhere else, come back for an hour or just sit and wait until the van goes.
Because I said that is what people can do.
You can go like that to go and get in.
The slide door goes and then you're gone.
And you've been trafficked or something.
Brilliant.
You've got to stop watching all this true crime.
I've told you.
A minute, you know.
I know, I'm there, I'm there.
Well, I am definitely going to continue this one,
one a night with Mark, because we've started it together,
really enjoying it, so we're going to carry that on, that's for sure.
We've got a message here from Carl as well.
Hi, ladies, I'm Carl from Kent.
A must-watch is Red Eye on ITVX or ITV and it's about some doctors that get sent
back to China after something went wrong
while they're out there. My girlfriend
and I binged it all in one
afternoon. So Carl, we're on it
and that's what we're up to.
Fantastic. So as we said
you can get the show. It's on Sunday nights
at the moment at 9pm on
ITV or you can catch up
and watch all of it
on ITVX
Right
shall we have a look
at some of the
recommendations
from our lovely listeners
Yes
Right here we go
So we've got from Jenny
Good morning lovely ladies
Thank you for such a
funny and interesting podcast
I very much look forward
to every episode
I would like to recommend BBC's Blue Lights Now I was thinking about that quite recently Oh okay Thank you. watch but also really funny in places if you haven't cried at least twice by the end of the first series it will be a miracle thank you for entertaining us every week best wishes jenny from
glasgow oh thanks jenny that sounds good i think we should just jump straight in there and have a
look at series two okay and see what we think i know but you're one to go back then oh i'll go
back yeah i won't i'll leave you standing and i'll go back yeah i'll never go back
never go back so have we got any more recommendations oh right let's have a listen
to this voice oh yeah let's hi ladies i've been a listener since you started and i just want to
say that your podcast has become a real comfort it's also given me fantastic recommendations for
programs um i just wanted to recommend one that i watched this week which was called this way up
it is on channel four and it stars ashley b who is just hilarious so funny um it was in alice and
jack and it's just a real feel good proper what i would call a proper british sitcom so highly
recommend that one there's two series give it a go if you need a little pick-me-up and a little laugh.
Thanks.
Keep it up.
Bye.
Oh, thank you.
That's lovely.
Thank you so much.
Well, you know me and a sitcom.
I think we should do that because I think she's really good.
I really like her.
I thought she was great in Alice in Jack.
She was great, wasn't she?
So good.
Really good.
And I first sort of heard of her from like stand-up and that sort of thing.
I was like, God, I didn't know she was an actress
I'm sure I did 8 out of 10 cats with her
I'm sure I did, no she's
great, I'm really up for that, I'd like to see that
I think we should have a look at that, thank you so much
for that, brilliant, well as always
thanks so much for all your messages and voice notes
we've had so many messages
about your guilty pleasure watches, please
keep them coming in and like we
say there's no judgment here.
You can say what you like.
Honestly, just send us a voice note or a message.
It'd be lovely.
I mean, my guilty pleasure,
I think I said it when we were doing our promos, Jo,
but there's loads of different things on.
But I really loved How To Build A Sex Room.
I still haven't seen that.
Now, I'm telling you now.
I'm going to have to see it.
It is just hilarious because it's just...
It's like grand designs, changing rooms,
a little bit of psychotherapy, a little bit of sex therapy,
and they're out and it's quite...
It is quite raunchy.
How big a room do you need?
Not much.
Because, like...
This would do.
This is quite a big room.
No, all right, half it.
You don't need much, do you?
No, but why do you need a room anyway?
Because people want to just get away
and fulfil their sexual fantasies.
But why can't you just use the bedroom?
Because they're panicked about the kids or whatever,
and it depends what you're into, Jo.
I mean, there's quite a lot going on here.
But when I'm imagining a sex room, I'm thinking,
is it because they need to, you know, like, mount a whip on the wall?
So there might be bits on the wall or they're mounting things on the wall.
But they make it lovely.
Do they?
Yeah, they'll have a shelf and they'll have all the dildos.
You know, it's like a Grand Designs.
But, like, I suppose, because, like, in the olden days,
you basically, like, have a drawer, wouldn't you?
How to build a sex drawer.
These days, there's there's like so much equipment
so much stuff there's a room the mind boggles are there beds in all the rooms or do they sometimes
just have a chair sometimes just a chair or a swing or are the chairs comfortable or or because
in my mind just go and watch it but in my way mind, a sex room, right, would be borderline,
like, you know,
like a sex room with whips and everything.
Yeah.
So in my mind,
it's all like black and red,
which kind of is sort of along the same lines in here,
with whips on the wall
and then quite a chair,
almost borderline the electric chair.
Well, have you got a sex room?
No.
Because that is probably one of the rooms
that are on there.
You've just described one of the rooms. Yeah. I don't have my own sex room? No. Because that is probably one of the rooms that are on there. You've just described one of the rooms.
Yeah.
I don't have my own sex room.
Fine.
Neither do I.
Oh, I'd quite like to have my own room, but I'd be like, sod the sex.
Can I have some magazines?
Not those magazines.
No.
I'd like Home and Gardens, some interior design magazines.
A little gramophone playing.
Yeah, a gramophone. And a fire. I'd fire. A little gramophone playing. Yeah, a gramophone.
And a fire.
And a fire.
A mini fridge.
Yeah.
Some cakes.
Mm.
Someone to bring me some food in.
Yeah.
And everyone to just go out, lock it, lock the door.
Mm.
Put something on the telly.
That would be my sex room.
What's your guilty pleasure, Jo?
In general or to watch?
No, no, to watch.
I think, actually, I'm going to go home and watch an episode of
Making My Own Sex Room.
How to build a sex room.
Right.
Drop me a text later and let me know.
I'll send you a photo.
Okay.
So she'll be out with her wood and a great big hammer.
My little wooden chair in the middle.
Staple gun with pleather.
Make it yourself.
Right, well, that's enough from us this week.

My name is Annie McManus.
And my name is Nick Grimshaw.
How long have we known each other, babe?
Probably 20 years now.
And in that time,
we've always worked in and around music, right?
We have.
So it kind of makes sense that we do a podcast about it.
It sounds like it's been 20 years in the making.
It's not Avatar for podcasts, basically. But it kind of makes sense that we do a podcast about it. It sounds like he's been 20 years in the making. It's not avatar for podcasts, basically.
But it is good.
So we put the world to rights with regards to music.
It's all the stuff that you'd want to chat to your mate about over a pint.
Brand new Sidetracked with us, Annie and Nick.
