Starting point is 00:00:00 BBC Sounds, music, radio, podcasts. Hello and welcome to Off The Telly from BBC Sounds. I'm Natalie Cassidy and you might know me better as Sonia from EastEnders. And I'm Joanna Page and some of you might know me as Stacey from Gavin and Stacey. We are going to have a little bit of swearing today, guys, so apologies, you know, for that. But a few spoilers, maybe, what we're watching. We might have got further than you. So just so you know, keep an eye on it. Turn us off. Wait till you've watched it all. Turn us back on again.
Starting point is 00:00:40 How are you, Jo? I'm very well, thank you. Have you had a good week? Yeah, it's been a busy week. But everybody seemed to enjoy episode two. My mum absolutely loved it, but she sort of disowned me now. She said she's got more in common with you. She was like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:00:55 She said I completely understand what she's saying about not eating food in bed. Well, what is it with your family? I think we might have to swap, do some sort of house swap for a week. Yeah, but mum was laughing so much as well after listening to the second episode that I phoned her and she was in such a state because she had her mobile phone, she had the remote control for
Starting point is 00:01:13 the TV and she had her iPad and everything was just there all at the same time that when I phoned and she was laughing she picked up the remote control for the TV and was going, hello, hello and then out loud was going why is it stopping? Has she got round yet that we're doing a podcast and not an iPod?
Starting point is 00:01:28 Yes, yes. She's worked it out, yeah. Brilliant. But because she's got that in her brain it's stopped her from being able to function the mobile phone so that's now become the remote control now. What's your mum's name?
Starting point is 00:01:38 Sue. Sue, it's not your fault. We can't have everything. Maybe next week we'll get it all right, Sue. I'll see you soon. We can talk about Jo's bed habits with the eating and the crumbs. So have you actually eaten in bed or in the living room or anything? No.
Starting point is 00:01:51 This week, Mark and Eliza have been scoffing on Ferrero Rocher. Oh, yes. I thought some of those this week too. They've been scoffing on chocolate. Yeah, yeah. Which I don't like. I don't even like that in the lounge. Is it that you don't like chocolate or that you don't like chocolate in the lounge?
Starting point is 00:02:07 I don't like any food in the lounge. So you won't even have chocolate in the lounge? No, I did have one, actually, in the lounge. You know, it's not good, this, because you're making me think about things. But give it six months and the lounge is going to be ruined. It's going to be your fault. What do you do at Christmas time? Do you have a Twiglet in the lounge?
Starting point is 00:02:26 Have I had a Twiglet in the lounge? No, not really. No, things do slip. Things do go into the lounge. I thought the other day, actually, I had a cheese board watching the darts. Oh my gosh. Well, there you go. That's an inroad. Yeah, yeah. I did think about it. I did have a Chinese takeaway the other day and I did have it. No, I had it on my lap on the sofa watching the telly. Oh, that's okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I did get a bit stressed though because I had the baby jumping up and down next to me and then the dog was just like hovering by the plate. But I still enjoyed it. Are you not worried
Starting point is 00:02:54 for sweet and sour pork balls flying everywhere? No, no. But I did think about you. Did you? I don't think I'll ever be able to now. Well, on Mother's Day
Starting point is 00:03:02 I got a cup of tea in bed and I did think, I wonder if they've made me any food but they didn't and I was quite pleased about that because I was just going to WhatsApp my food in bed but I will do it I promise you
Starting point is 00:03:12 I'm going to have some sort of meal in bed and definitely show you and tell you how I feel about it do you know for Mother's Day I didn't even have anything to eat in bed I was the first one up I was downstairs by about quarter to seven you know when you don't need to get up so you wake up like really really early oh of course it's always the way isn't it up. I was downstairs by about quarter to seven. Oh, yeah. You know when you don't need to get up,
Starting point is 00:03:25 so you wake up like really, really early. Oh, of course. It's always the way, isn't it? Yeah. So I went downstairs and sat in the kitchen with the dogs and it was really quite nice, actually, having nobody else awake. That's nice.
Starting point is 00:03:34 That's lovely. The Mother's Day present that we all need. Absolutely no children around. I was thinking that because they booked for us to go and have a meal in the pub and everything and James was like, oh, should we all go for a nice big walk and everything?
Starting point is 00:03:46 And in my head, I, well, later on in the day, actually, I said to him, do you know what? Right, cancel it. I can't be bothered. I'm just too damn tired. And then I said, you all go. You just go. I mean, go. Did they all go?
Starting point is 00:03:58 No, they didn't. I had to go as well. It was nice when we were there. But I do think that the Mother's Day present that a mother actually does want is for everyone to fuck off. Spa day. Yeah. Not even a spa day. I'd be quite happy just sitting in the living room.
Starting point is 00:04:10 On your own. On the sofa eating food on my own. Yeah. No, I get it. I know. I know. I do. I do agree with you.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Yeah. But you know what we haven't done? What? We've not read out our lovely listeners' messages. We haven't. Thank you so much for all of your messages and all of your voice notes. We've had so many lovely messages from you. Loads of people are agreeing about Ant and Dec and agreeing with you
Starting point is 00:04:33 that the happiest minute of the week just makes them cry because it's just so, so lovely. I love it. And also, it's quite good to see that quite a lot of people found True Detective as confusing as us. Yes. Because I was thinking, am I not highbrow enough or something? But everybody, I think, is in agreement about,
Starting point is 00:04:48 if you're going to see a one-eyed polar bear, give us the payoff. Yeah, I agree. And do you know what? I only watched two. I'm not going to lie to you. I didn't bother. I didn't watch any more. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:04:55 So you didn't finish it? No. We got a lovely one, all about borders. So here it is. I felt compelled to write in to say what an absolute star and ally nat showed herself to be when discussing borders which is very very nice natalie who wrote to us another natalie here i too binged the show and as a black woman of british caribbean heritage who grew up on
Starting point is 00:05:16 a council estate in london went to the local comprehensive and then to medical school i felt like my experiences as a gifted teen 15 years ago were being given a voice on screen now a doctor in my 30s it really does feel that tv has come a long way and I hope that shows like this allow younger generations to feel seen and heard and that their lives and experiences are important what a lovely message very clever as well yeah yeah isn't that lovely so thank you so so much no we can't be scared of chatting about things that are uncomfortable to us. And we need to learn about it. So it's very important to me.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And that's why I love Borders so much. Oh. Well, also we've had another one saying that they're enjoying our podcast. They've just listened to episode two and they had to write in about Ant and Dec because back in 2017, we were... See, I've always wondered where they get these people from.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Go on. We were lucky enough to win a place on the plane to Disney. My husband had a bet with me that I had no chance of winning us tickets. I wrote into ITV all about my husband's beard, which I detested, and that I'd made a bet with him that if I got us on the TV, he'd shave it off. That all happened on the Saturday, and by Tuesday, we were in Florida with our two girls. It was a really magical experience.
Starting point is 00:06:29 The only problem is the beard is now back bigger than ever. Looking forward to next week's episode. And this is my son, we're called Joe. Oh, look at that. So this week, we're going to talk about the relaunch of Celebrity Big Brother, which you can catch on ITV. We're also going to be talking about Alice and Jack,
Starting point is 00:06:49 a fantastic romantic drama, which you can catch on all four. And the sitcom Here We Go, which you can get on BBC iPlayer. Shall we get into it? Yes, come on, let's go. So the first show we're going to talk about is Celebrity Big Brother. Oh, some past history there. We all know what the show's about. I haven't got to summarise it, right?
Starting point is 00:07:10 There's a load of people in a house. Big Brother is watching 24 hours a day. Yes. So they get up to loads of stuff. What did you think of the launch show? What did you think of it? Well, to be perfectly honest, right, I was disappointed. I was excited.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yeah. And I'll always be there for it because I just remember when it first started. And it was amazing. The launch show started before anything else, right? Before I've got to say anything else, AJ, oh my God, right? Her outfit for the launch show, her figure, her outfit. She's amazing, isn't she? She's amazing.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Do you know with AJ, I don't know what it was, but sometimes I think, gosh, she's a bit much. I know what you mean, yeah. She's a bit much, right? But for that, she is absolutely perfect. And Will Best is brilliant. Yes. I've not seen him do loads and loads myself. Yeah, I've never seen him.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I think they are a dynamic duo. Yes. I quite like to see them on This Morning. I know they've just got Kat and Ben on or whatever, but they'd be great on This Morning. They would. But I think they're brilliant. And her figure.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Oh, my God, it was insane. She was in like that skin tight red cat suit. Unbelievable. I was like, oh my God, she looks incredible. She just looks amazing. But the whole thing I found quite small because like the outfit with Davina and then with Emma,
Starting point is 00:08:18 it used to seem like just so big and it was huge. But the whole stage seemed quite small, but I was still really excited when everybody started coming out. I did like it when Louis obviously cocked up and said I'm looking forward to seeing Mrs O yeah yeah and AJ had to try and pretend that they don't all know who's going in and it's probably you know hasn't been in his contract that he's going in there with her yeah um but yeah when it's and they all went in I kind of in the beginning with Sharon
Starting point is 00:08:44 and Louis was a bit like, oh, Jesus, I feel like I'm tuning into an old people's home here. Well, someone told me that they didn't speak. And the whole reason that they'd got them on the show is because they'd not spoken for ages and it was going to be some rift in the... Oh! They got in and went, oh, darling!
Starting point is 00:08:58 They don't speak at all! Apparently they'd had an argument. I mean, that was only in the paper or whatever, but yeah. And so I thought this is going to be brilliant because they hate each other. Yes. And obviously they've not spoken for seven years or something, so it's going to be really interesting. And they swanned in, gave each other a cuddle and are best friends.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I found the first episode just kind of a bit boring and I've been dipping in and out of it. Me too. But I was kind of, it didn't have the same effect, I think, these days because of social media. I'm not shocked about seeing everybody sleeping in bed. I'm not shocked about catching them unawares. That's a really, really good point.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Because I've literally seen everything for every celebrity. It's all put out, you know, on social media. But then saying that, I'm loving Sharon and Louis together. So am I. I'm loving it. Absolutely love it. Yes. I really, I just find it hilarious.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Yeah. And Louis, the way he chats about people. He's vicious. Well, also he just thinks he knows everything about everybody. What about with Lauren, when she went to get the bed in the beginning and she went, oh, this is my bed and she picked it and he walked into the room and he saw that that was like the main best bed and he just stormed in and went, no, out, that's mine, that's my bed,
Starting point is 00:10:02 get out, get out now. And it was like, I was like, oh, my God. I thought Louis was always the really, you know, really nice one on X Factor and stuff. And Jesus Christ, he's got a side to him. No, he's definitely got a side to him. What about Sharon? Oh, my God. Her own bedroom.
Starting point is 00:10:15 She's all right, thanks. She must have said, I'm not going in unless I've got my own bedroom. But I'm quite surprised, right, because I was still expecting this absolutely terrifying woman. I remember, right, years ago, I did Adrenaline Junkie, right, with Jack Osborne. And I remember they didn't want Jack, well, they wanted Jack to do a stunt, but Sharon didn't want him to do this stunt that we all ended up doing. And he was on the phone to her. And then you could just see just purely Sharon's, you know going through Jack out of the phone through Jack and then out into the space telling people that there was no way in hell he was going to do the
Starting point is 00:10:49 stunt right everybody was shit scared of her and so I was I was imagining some absolutely fierce horrible scary woman okay she's so lovely yeah I think she's lovely she's fair yeah and she's kind she's honest and she's warm and she's honest I And she's warm and she's honest. I think she's so lovely. I'll tell you what, it's made me realise that I'm older. Yes, my God, yes. Because I think when you are in your 20s, you've got loads of time to sit and watch that all day. Oh, my God, yes.
Starting point is 00:11:17 That's what it made me, and I thought, actually, I'm sitting here watching this thinking I've got loads to do. Yeah, me too. Where I feel like it's a show for the yeah the young ones yeah I'm exactly the same because normally right with all the other series and stuff I loved it and I would sit there I loved watching all of the interactions and all the body language and how they interact and all of that right but I was watching it the other day and the baby was sleeping I was thinking okay I've got I've got about an hour here now you can unload the dishwasher yeah
Starting point is 00:11:44 but I need to do the housework I need to get stuff done I'm got about an hour here now that I can watch some of it. You can unload the dishwasher. Yeah, but I need to do the housework. I need to get stuff done. I'm just, you know, I can't sit down and watch this now. Although, saying that, I am now, when I'm going to bed, dipping into it and watching it more because I'm going to... Sharon's only in for five or seven days, isn't she? Oh, is she? She's the lodger, yeah. Oh, she's the lodger. I think I'll be gutted when she
Starting point is 00:11:59 leaves because I'm liking the little Hollywood tales and stuff. I feel we are going to miss her. Yeah, I think we are. But yeah, I'm enjoying it, but I'm liking the little Hollywood tales and stuff. I feel we are going to miss her. Yeah, I think we are. But yeah, I'm enjoying it, but I'm not absolutely hooked to it and I just think that's because I've got too much to do. Yeah, and we're too old. Like, if I didn't see any more of it, I think I'd probably be fine. Yeah, it wouldn't bother me.
Starting point is 00:12:18 I like the Leighton Live show, though. So that's what I've been doing. I've been switching over to ITV2 and interestingly, only watching it in bed, a bedtime show like you said oh layton is doing the like the other show for it uh no late and live although like weirdly layton was on it last night it was a guest on it last night but i quite like that because they could you know they're showing the snippets it's kind of the best bits and you're getting the opinion which i feel is quite nice when you're not watching all of it yeah what do you think of everyone in it so on instagram there was a clip yesterday i was scrolling through and
Starting point is 00:12:53 it was lauren yeah saying to eck and sue she said so you've got a choice be a cleaner working tesco i'll show you fanny and then eck and sue said oh didn't do that. But I did like the way she said it. So I was thinking about the choice. Yeah. Be a cleaner, work in Tesco, I'll show you Fanny. Yeah. What would you do?
Starting point is 00:13:12 Yeah, because I watched that as well because they were all arguing, weren't they? About like OnlyFans and stuff. Yeah. And Sharon was going, no, no, I'd never do that. And then other ones were going,
Starting point is 00:13:20 yeah, I would. And when I heard her saying that as well, I was kind of like, oh my God, I want to ask you that because I don't think I'd show my fanny I'm very happy yeah I'll be honest yes I would be very happy working in Tesco I know you're gonna say the other thing I'd be happy yeah um I would be happy as well because I I would yeah and I just don't think I would like you know I I couldn't imagine doing OnlyFans. Well, although, right, you know when I was pregnant,
Starting point is 00:13:50 I couldn't imagine doing OnlyFans as in getting everything out. I'll tell you what I would do, though. Yeah. People with the feet. Well, yes. See, I've got very funny, I've got very strange feet. Have you? Yeah, really odd feet.
Starting point is 00:14:02 They're just disgusting. Yeah. But I think people would like, you know, like this. Is there a market for it? No, no, it's a rubber feet. I swear to God there'd be a market, right? Because I thought. I thought you said, is Mark up for it?
Starting point is 00:14:14 You're talking about my Mark. Oh no, he doesn't like my feet. No, I think you're right. There's a market for it. But yeah, you know, when I was pregnant, right, I've always thought I couldn't do OnlyFans and do bikini shots or get boobs or fanny outs. But when I was pregnant, I thought, you know, right,
Starting point is 00:14:33 if I set up an OnlyFans account when I'm, like, heavily pregnant and if I just showed, like, my feet or something and I marketed it as, like, you know, playing Stacey and Gavin and Stacey pregnant whilst, you know, just normal photos of my feet. Are people up for heavily pregnant people? I can imagine. I swear to God that there would be.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Yeah, you're right. Somebody being heavily pregnant and just doing poses of their feet. I think those two morphed together would get you a lot of money on OnlyFans. So we've both gone down. Let's be honest. We're not going to work in Tesco's, are we? We're not going to work in Tesco's.
Starting point is 00:15:06 We are going to do feet. You're going to do your disgusting feet. Yeah. And I'm going to get myself pregnant again so I can do shots of my feet and we'll both set up an OnlyFans account. It did bring back some memories, though. Well, I know. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:15:23 What was it like? And who was in there with you? I was with lovely Denise Welch. Oh, yes. I was with Michael Masden. Oh, my God. But I had to go in first to the house. I was the first one in.
Starting point is 00:15:37 I had an earpiece. Yeah. And I had to do all, like, they had to tell me what to do. I was doing all the challenges at the beginning. Oh, my God. But it was fun. I have to say I what to do. I was doing all the challenges at the beginning. Oh, my God. But it was fun. I have to say I had great fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I had to high-five Michael Maslin and say, I know you from somewhere. High-five Free Willy when he'd been in Reservoir Dogs and he got really upset. Yes. Then I had to talk to Nicola McLean and say, I'm really sorry about what I said to you. Because there was something in the press back then
Starting point is 00:16:00 where it said we'd had an argument, but we hadn't. Yeah. But they kept saying, just apologise to Nicola again I had to keep going up to her saying by the way I'm sorry and she was like yeah no it's fine
Starting point is 00:16:09 it's fine and she was getting really annoyed about it but did you feel right because I've always thought when you've got to do like the undercover you know
Starting point is 00:16:14 I love that though I love all that did you get scared though that that would mark you out as in people they're not liking you and that's you know or did you feel like
Starting point is 00:16:21 oh this will be a right laugh and they'll know when they'll get to know me you just have no time to think because they don't tell you that you know yeah they don or did you feel like, oh, this will be a right laugh and they'll know when they'll get to know me? You just have no time to think because they don't tell you that, you know. Yeah. They don't tell you what you're doing. So you get in there, you're doing it.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I didn't really think about what people thought of me. I never think about what people think of me, Jo. But is it scary? Like when you're in there, do you forget that cameras are going? You really do forget. How did you feel about going to sleep? Because sometimes I've always wondered if I was... Sometimes, you know, when I catch up, right,
Starting point is 00:16:48 I don't know if it's because I'm getting old, because they say that your jaw starts to disintegrate when you get older. Lovely. And I don't know, right, because sometimes I wake up in the morning, and you know, like an old woman who hasn't got her teeth in, I'll wake up sometimes and I'm like that.
Starting point is 00:17:00 And I feel, and I wake up. Jo just looks like a cabbage patch doll at the moment. Well, you know, when your face goes to normal and everything, and I wake up. Jo just looks like a cabbage patch doll at the moment for those people listening. You know when your face goes to normal and everything and I've often thought to myself, if I went on a reality show and I was sleeping on it, people would see that face of mine and that would, like, spoil everything. I think it's all right.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Honestly. What about going to the toilet? What was that like? Fine, you just unclip yourself. Yeah. From your microphone, excuse me. I just cleaned, had a laugh. Yeah, did anything bad kick off?
Starting point is 00:17:28 Because I do remember Nicola McLean standing on the top of the stairs. It was Nicola McLean and Denise at the time who kicked off, but I'd left by then. See, I was a peacemaker. I went really early as well. I went out super early, which was a bonus. Yeah, I think that's the best bit, isn't it? Go in and then get out.
Starting point is 00:17:43 Get out, get the money and run. Did you ever feel it like warping with your mind and questioning yourself? Or did you ever get, you know, insecure or anything in there? No, I just got on with it. Oh my God. It wasn't a great period in my life, actually, at the time. So I went in there, did it, did it for the money.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Yeah. Anyone who says they go in those shows for the experience, they're talking absolute bollocks. Yeah. You do it for the money. Yeah. So I was very grateful and i came out early and i've got not a bad bud to say about the place yeah but i am going to dip in and out of it i'm going to continue i'm going to continue i want to see what the outcome with zz and lauren is going to be because that's the only oh and also what's going to happen with levi because levi and david there's quite a
Starting point is 00:18:22 bit of going on there isn't there yeah oh so we can watch this now every day on ITV at 9 o'clock or you can catch up on ITVX or you can flip over to ITV2 and watch the late
Starting point is 00:18:33 and live as well yes so there's loads of options and let us know if you've been watching it and what you guys
Starting point is 00:18:38 think about it definitely send us in your thoughts right oh our next show. I don't know what to say. I don't know if I can do it. Alice and Jack on all four or Channel 4.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Eyes are watering already. Oh, my God. I did it in one sitting. I mean, I nearly gave myself a stroke by the end of it. Jesus Christ. I watched the first one. And then I continued to episode five. And it was 1.45 in the morning and I had work.
Starting point is 00:19:10 I had to get up at six. And I thought, I can't watch the last episode now. I can't do it. So then I got up, felt like shit, drove to work, had a coffee and just spoke to everyone saying, have you watched it, have you watched it, have you watched it? And then I did my makeup and whatever, went and sat in my dressing room and just watched the final one.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Oh, my God. And was absolutely traumatised and didn't want it to end. Oh, my God, because I know what you're like with your sleep. You're very, like, because you were, like, shocked when I said... I have never, I have not done that for a very, very long time because I go to bed, but that show, I just had to watch it all. I did two episodes right in the car and then I got home and then I settled the baby and just started watching it
Starting point is 00:19:53 and then I went all the way through until I was about 245 or something. It's the story, people are saying it's like a grown-up one day. It's sort of like a romantic drama of a couple who meet and then you follow them through quite a large part of their lives, of them being friends, lovers and what happens to them throughout their lives. And, you know, when it started, I love Andrea Rysborough. I think she's such a fantastic actress. I love it that she seems completely and utterly fearless.
Starting point is 00:20:23 And watching her in this. Her smile. Oh, my God. Yeah. And she's just, she's so pure. She's so open. dress i love it that she seems completely netterly fearless and watching her smile oh my god yeah and she's just she's so pure she's so open yeah and raw and i love it right that she's not scared like with some actresses if you're playing the lead role in a romantic drama or if you're playing the lead role or whatever full stop lots of actresses you know pile the makeup on want to look pretty yeah they want to make choices where the audience, you know, will really like you as a character.
Starting point is 00:20:50 What I love about her, right, is that she quite clearly was fearless. She wasn't scared about being liked, about, you know, the character of Alice. It's not particularly, she's not a nice person. Things which have happened to her in her life make her not what you'd assume
Starting point is 00:21:04 a female romantic lead to be. She's not a warm, she's a complicated human being with a very high-flying job, so she's got lots and lots of money. I thought it was beautiful. But the first episode for me had so much in it that I just feel you get invested immediately. And my friend actually Matthew hi Matthew Morrison he's our new regular fan um he's an actor at work he plays
Starting point is 00:21:29 Felix in his senders but I text him because I said I told him to watch it and he said I it had me it had me from episode one and then uh about 11 o'clock at night he said I finished it so you know I think it's that sort of thing but I thought Domino Gleeson was amazing. Oh, my God, I love him so much. He was wonderful. I've got a story about him. If I wasn't already married, I would want to marry him. I think he's wonderful.
Starting point is 00:21:52 I agree with you. What's your story about him? So my story's really embarrassing. Oh, God. I did a scripted podcast with James Acaster. He wrote it, called Springleaf. Yeah. So I get to the job, and i'm playing like a gang leader
Starting point is 00:22:05 janet really good getting the thing going to the studio see james blah blah blah and there's this tall ginger guy there and he comes out and he's chatting away about his girlfriend and he's over from ireland and he's absolutely lovely lovely anyway we're chat chat chatting away and i said oh yeah brilliant like just a lovely normal guy chat chat chat chat, chat, chatting away and I said, oh yeah, brilliant. Just a lovely, normal guy. Chat, chat, chat, chat. Anyway, someone else comes out and I went, he's lovely, isn't he, that bloke? I said, you know who that is? I'm like, I've got no idea who it is.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I said, it's Donald Gleeson. Still don't know who it is. Before this programme, I said, I don't know, so I'm googling away. I'm looking and do you know what I came out with? What? I said, oh yeah, I recognise him from Peter Rabbit. Yeah, yeah. And these guys, they looked at me as if to say,
Starting point is 00:22:50 it's really that, what you know him from. I said, that is what I know him from. Yeah. All I can say is thank God I'd not watched this before walking into him and seeing him. Yes. Because I wouldn't have been able to speak. I thought you were going to say then,
Starting point is 00:23:04 thank God I hadn't watched this before walking into a room and seeing him? Yes. Because I wouldn't have been able to speak. I thought you were going to say then, thank God I hadn't watched this before watching Peter Ramley. If I'd have watched Alice and Jack, and then I've walked into a room and done, I wouldn't have been able to do the job. I know, I know. He's just incredible. He's fantastic. He's such an amazing actor.
Starting point is 00:23:20 You know when you cry so much, and there's so much snot has come, that it's literally... No. No, but because at one point, I came out of my own body, right, watching it because I was so fascinated at what my body had physically done in this reaction to the last episode. There was like, you know like when there's snot? Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:37 And it's like so, so, so long. Yeah, yeah, lovely. And I was kind of like, at one point I just had to stop to just be so fascinated by it because it was so long. And I just thought, God, I can't believe that, you know, I can't believe that I could have cried more than I cried at one day. And I'm really glad at the ending. And, oh, my God, you know what I found so affecting was just like, you know, when he wakes up. Yeah. And, spoiler alert, she's gone.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Oh, my God. And they come in and I thought the fellas, because normally if you've got a part that's, you know, the less lines you've got, the more of a nightmare it is. It's harder to do. And I thought the two fellas who came in to take her out and the way they spoke to him were just so real. And then, oh my God, I got so freaked out at the end because he goes down then in the hospital with her.
Starting point is 00:24:22 And he just sits down there. And he just sits. Because sometimes you see people acting when their loved ones have gone, and it just doesn't seem real. Because I was thinking, I started getting really upset then, and then the next day I was really upset talking to James, saying, a point is going to come when, you know, when one of us goes first, and then we will just sit
Starting point is 00:24:43 and look at the other one, and it'll just be like, well, I've got to go now. I love you and I'll see you one day and I don't know when it's going to be and I love you with all my heart and I miss you so much, but I've got to go. And when he says, is this it? Is this going to be the last time I ever see her? And I thought, you know, right,
Starting point is 00:25:02 if James is ever in a hospital or something and we're towards the end of our own touch wood I'm gonna take his scissors with me because when he said I'm gonna cut a bit of him off because when he said is this the last time I'm going to see her again only probably a bit of his hair but I thought thought, can you imagine going, I love you, and I'll see you soon, and I love you, and saying whatever you want to say, but just talking like how you just normally would talk to them
Starting point is 00:25:33 and being like, right, I'm going to go home now and I'll just make the food and I love you. Have you lost a parent? Yeah, and I cut some of her fur off and I kept her fur. No, not a parent. Oh, God. No. Oh, not a parent. Oh my god. No. Oh god. Oh god. Oh my god, you think you can tell, right, that there's two actresses doing this podcast because our emotions are so on the surface.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Have you lost anyone very close to you? Yes, I have. I'm not saying the pet isn't, by the way. But yeah, I know that you... No, I haven't lost a parent. Right. Well, what I'm saying is when things happen, you do end up being quite nonchalant about it because it's part of life, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:26:29 Yes, yes. It's awful. Don't get me wrong, it's heartbreaking, but you go along with it. It's like whatever... It's like someone gets an illness. You're at the doctors and you don't start waiting. You go, oh, okay then.
Starting point is 00:26:41 You know, it's just part of life, which is what I thought they did and demonstrated so well. They did it so well. But I'm still going to take a scissors if James is like on his deathbed and I probably will cut some of his hair off or something. I thought you were going to say you were going to do a Mrs. Bobbit and cut his cock off.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I'll cut his cock off and I'll preserve it in a box. Kids will love that. On the side. On the windowsill. With a goldfish. Daddy's cock. Goldfish. Couple of books.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Could use it as a paperweight. All right. Showing off. So we loved it. We did love it. We loved it and I thought it was special and I would recommend it to everyone. So please, please have a watch,
Starting point is 00:27:32 even if you watch the first one and let us know what it's like because we are realising there's quite a lot of telly to get through. So, you know, we understand if you don't watch a full series, but you can still send us a voice note or a message, even if you've watched 10 minutes or something, to tell us what you think of it. Here We Go is quite fitting because, right, here we go. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:27:53 To our last one, which is the wonderful comedy sitcom Here We Go on BBC iPlayer. Yeah. Tom Buzden writes it and he stars in it. And he plays Tony's brother-in-law in Afterlife. So Ricky Gervais'
Starting point is 00:28:08 brother-in-law and he works in the newspaper place and I really liked him in that. I have to say I chucked it on there. It's a love,
Starting point is 00:28:15 it's a sitcom and I am very precious regarding comedy. Yeah. So I sit down and I think, oh, do I want to watch
Starting point is 00:28:24 a new sitcom? But I was pleasantly surprised I did go oh Alison Stedman's in it oh I love Alison Stedman but I like her in Gavin and Stacey yes so there's a part of me that gets a bit protective it's like oh why is everyone using Alison Stedman yes um but I thought again as usual she's just such a character actress she don't even she's absolutely brilliant in it I was the again, as usual, she's just such a character actress. She's brilliant, isn't she? She's absolutely brilliant in it. I was the same as well, right? Because it's about this one particular family, the Jessups, and then
Starting point is 00:28:52 it's their son who's filming them on like... Clever idea. Look at me, like Cam Corder. He's not, he's filming probably on a phone. No, he is a Cam Corder. He is a Cam Corder. So he's doing a project for school and he's making a documentary. So you never really see the son in it.
Starting point is 00:29:07 And it's him filming as well as other shots. But it's clever, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. And it's nice because it's all just sort of, it's not even the story and what happens to them. It's the characters, isn't it? You've got Katherine Parkinson, who's just fantastic. She's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:29:23 And then Jim Howick, who plays the husband. Oh, brilliant. He's flipping brilliant. He is brilliant. I mean, oh my God. So he's in like horrible histories. Horrible histories. He's in ghosts.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Ghosts, yeah. Sex education. Not seen that. Oh, oh my God, he's so good. Oh, brilliant. He plays one of the teachers who's a bit sad. Right. Oh my God, he's just fantastic.
Starting point is 00:29:41 He's brilliant in this. He's so good. I mean, oh my my god I saw the episode and I love the daughter I love Freya Parks who plays Amy yes I love the fact that
Starting point is 00:29:49 she's just so fed up with the whole family I like the fact that the one I watched on the way in on the train she'd been to Norway yeah so it's series two
Starting point is 00:29:58 the other thing with this I think when it's a sitcom you can just bump around yes you haven't got to watch it in order no
Starting point is 00:30:04 do you know what I mean it's their stand alone make you laugh things. But she'd been to Norway and she comes home and all she just wants to do is get back to Norway. She hates being at home, which I like. I think it's hilarious. I watched one where Jim Howick was, he's passing out as a policeman
Starting point is 00:30:18 and then he literally does pass out. He can't get his helmet to fit him. And it's just really, really good physical comedy because you've already been told that his head is too big so the helmet get his helmet to fit him and it's just really really good physical comedy because you've already been told that his head is too big so the helmet's not going to fit him and then it means so much to him the passing out parade and then he can't march and as and then Alison comes in yeah and she's all dressed up because they're going to a wedding then straight after and so she's all in her wedding gear and they're all chatting and as the scene's going on you've just got him parading around in a circle and just his physical comedy he ends up sort of marching kind of like this and I can't do it and he's just so flipping funny and then he faints
Starting point is 00:30:57 I really think what he's captured is just that normality of family yeah and I think he's done a brilliant job and it is something that I would sit family. Yeah. And I think he's done a brilliant job. And it is something that I would sit and I would watch with Eliza, like a Friday night dinner. And I really feel like it's something that I could watch again and again and get into because I've not watched them all yet. Yeah. But I think he's done a brilliant, brilliant job.
Starting point is 00:31:17 It is funny, you know, watching Alison... I was going to say to you... ...in something else. Yeah. I started watching it and I was like, oh my gosh, this kind of reminds me of Gavin and Stacey because it is just like a family. Of course. What of reminds me of Gavin and Stacey because it is just like a family.
Starting point is 00:31:25 Of course. What, you know, makes that work because it's just like a normal family. And we recognise things from this normal family
Starting point is 00:31:32 because we've done it ourselves. We all know someone who's like that person, don't we? Yeah, and it's really funny because I feel like I sort of own her
Starting point is 00:31:40 because she's just like my Alison, who's like my mother-in-law. Which is really sad because it's not really like but I was like my Alison, who's like my mother-in-law, which is really sad because it's not real life, but I was like, Alison's betraying us. Oh, stop it. Was she lovely to work with, though?
Starting point is 00:31:53 Oh, my God, just so lovely. Just amazing. Masterclass. It's taken me a good few years not to be frightened because I was just so, and still am, completely and utterly in awe of her. Because it's Alison's stead, man. I mean, my, and still am, completely and utterly in awe of her. Yeah. Because it's Alice instead, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:06 I mean, my God, you know, you think of the work that she's done and just how amazing she is. I, to this day, still watch Abigail's party. I know. And she was really heavily pregnant in that, wasn't she? She was, wasn't she? Yeah. Yeah. I read that she was eight and a half months pregnant or something.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Oh, my God. And she did that performance. Oh, my God. And she did that performance. Oh, my God. Will it all chop up soon? A little bit of Demis Rousseau. But, yeah, I love her. But tell us what you think of it because, as we say, it was just a really good laugh.
Starting point is 00:32:37 It's half hour. You can dip in and out. It's a perfect sitcom, really. Now, we've got a recommendation. Yes. The first recommendation recommendation and thank you for these because there's so much on and it is lovely to get your recommendations bill bailey's perfect pub walks well yes please i mean yeah thank you very much it does what it says on the team the new heartfelt program i'm watching and thoroughly recommend you to tune into is bill bailey's perfect pub walks with bill bailey on more for it's about

Love from Carly. Oh, nice. I'm quite excited about getting recommendations. That for me is absolutely perfect. I want to know where the walks are
Starting point is 00:33:34 and then I'll do them. Right, well, that's enough for us this week. I think I have done so much laughing. Do you guys agree with us or is our telly taste just absolutely awful to you have you had enough of it just voice note or let us know

Starting point is 00:34:25 and we will be back next Wednesday on BBC Sounds, won't we? Yes, see you then. Off the Telly is hosted by Natalie Cassidy and Joanna Page. The producer is Georgia Keating. The commissioning editor is Rhian Roberts. And it's a BBC Studios production for BBC Sounds. Hello, it's Zan Van Tullican here, and I'm back with my twin brother Chris.
Starting point is 00:34:56 That's me. In the third series of our Radio 4 podcast, A Thorough Examination, and we're going to be talking about exercise. Now, I really love it and this has been really annoying for me. In fact it's gone beyond annoying. It's more like you've joined some sort of cult. But I think Chris needs to do more. In fact I think everyone needs to do more. There is a general crisis of inactivity in the UK that we should all be worried about. So in this series we weigh up whether exercise really is the miracle cure for all that ails us,
Starting point is 00:35:25 or whether it's been oversold and actually lounging around is just fine. Listen to us resolving the argument on BBC Sounds.
