BBC Sounds, music, radio, podcasts.
Hello, and welcome to Off The Telly from BBC Sounds.
I'm Natalie Cassidy.
And I'm Joanna Page.
And this is the podcast where we have a natter about telly
and what we've been watching this week.
Well, as you may have gathered, there'll be some fucks,
there might be some buggers and there'll be a few spoilers.
Yay!
How are you, darling?
I'm all right. I'm exhausted, though, because I've started this job.
Yeah, I've seen it.
Yeah, well, yeah, it's all about wildlife.
Looks amazing.
It's really good fun, but a bird did poo on my face the other day.
So it was a shock to the system.
It's meant to be lucky.
Well, that's what I came out of it with.
I did think, well, after the initial shock and then dealing with the situation,
I did then think, well, when a bird poos on you, it's luck.
If it poos on your face, that's luck.
My arse whereabouts? Was it in the eye or uh it was
round uh the nasal area and then it started trickling down to the lip yeah and so i wiped it
uh but i couldn't lick my lips for quite a while afterwards there wasn't an opportunity to wash
and so i couldn't lick my lips because um well in case there was poo on them
i was gonna say then and not my own.
Well, I really hope not.
Because then this is an entirely different podcast.
But aside from that, I have been letting Eva, my 11-year-old,
she's watched the first series of Gavin and Stacey now.
Oh, lovely. She's never, ever seen it before.
And do you know what?
She enjoyed it. She absolutely loved it. But it's flipping rude, isn't it? the first series of Gavin and Stacey now. Oh, lovely. She's never, ever seen it before. And do you know what? She enjoyed it.
She absolutely loved it.
But it's flipping rude, isn't it?
The first series.
It's rude all the way through.
Well, but I'm sure that it softens as it goes.
It was only the second time I'd ever seen it.
And, well, I'd forgotten what happened in it, to be honest.
I was like, well, I didn't know that that happened.
I was really shocked
with loads of bits.
We had to fast forward
over the toilet
brush incident.
Yes.
She was very shocked
over some bits.
There was,
I let her watch
the hen night
and everything.
Yes.
And she was incredibly shocked
and I did say to her,
right,
I'm warning you now,
there is a stripper
but he's,
you know,
it's all pretend.
You know, there's no willy out or anything. And it is just pretending. But she was in complete and utter shock. But she was laughing.
I think to an 11 year old, they're probably thinking, what on earth they're doing? She
doesn't know what a stripper is, does she?
We are just highlighting how completely inappropriate it is for my 11-year-old.
And then since then, right, she's laughing, going,
Mummy, Mummy!
And then she's trying to use all of this against me
to try and get to watch Love is Blind.
And she said, now can I watch Love is Blind?
So I said, no, you can't, because it's completely inappropriate.
And she said, Mummy, I've just watched a man stripping in front of you.
Well, it's funny you should mention that, Jo.
I haven't listened to this voice note.
Oh, my God.
Hello, ladies.
Kerry from Bristol here.
I've just listened to your bonus Comfort Telewatch episode
and I lost my mind because my dad played,
well, he was the stripper in the episode of Gavin and Stacey
that Joanna was talking about.
It's been a joke for my whole life um telling people that's a true story and people not believe in me until they
watch it and then meet my dad um i called him immediately and told him that you were talking
about him um i absolutely love your podcast um and i've got loads of lists of things to watch now because of it.
So keep doing what you're doing.
And just hat to messaging to say that I am the daughter of Toyboy with the elastic band around his penis.
Bye.
That is really tickle-bite.
Oh, my God.
Fancy that being your dad.
Oh, what a legend.
I've just got so many questions
and like images.
Like, so that must be about 20 years ago.
Does he still strip?
Like, what does he do now?
Oh my God, I can't believe I've now met his daughter.
That is one of my favourite messages so far.
Thank you so much, Kerry.
It's a classic.
Right, shows this week.
Oh, what have we been watching?
We've got three very different shows to chat about this week, Jo.
We're talking about The Responder on BBC One and iPlayer,
Fortune Hotel on ITVX,
and Inside No. 9 on BBC Two and iPlayer.
Oh, God, it's going to be a good one.
We had three big hitters there, didn't we?
Massive.
Yeah.
Let's talk telly.
Come on.
Now then, so our first show is a BBC police drama
called The Responder, starring Martin Freeman
as a Liverpudlian cop who is going through counselling
at the moment.
I started, I'd never seen it before, I'd obviously heard about it,
but I started on episode one of series one.
Well, I watched the series last year.
Oh, did you? Well, that's good.
So, really love it.
He's a response driver, obviously, in the night.
I love the couples and, obviously, the pairings in the cars,
which is something that's great.
But I wanted to say, why doesn't he have a pairing in the car?
Because he's an arsehole.
Oh.
No one will go with him.
Oh, because I was watching it, right,
and I was like, why isn't he with someone?
Because they've always got to have a partner.
Why doesn't he have a partner?
Is it because he is an arsehole?
Yeah, no one likes him.
Because the police that I've seen so far in like
the first step nobody likes him do they i mean he is i i gotta be honest i didn't flip him like him
i felt a bit sorry for but i got it oh he was getting on my nerves it was like i found it hard
i was really yeah i i i mean i can't believe that i'm gonna say this but i did find it even slightly
a bit too depressing for me and you know like know I like stuff that's really dark and depressing.
You do.
And I thought everybody was fab in it.
I thought Martin was brilliant in it.
I mean, the acting was just, you know, the acting was fantastic.
Josh Finan and Emily Fan.
The young ones.
You know the girl, the crackhead?
Yes.
Her and then the young boy.
The young boy.
I just think they're absolutely brilliant i
fell in love with their characters what has josh finan been in as well because i when i was watching
him in the first episode i really recognized him don't ask me i'm useless i think he's in baby
reindeer but i thought him and then the younger are just so. She's got the most amazing face. Yeah, her eyes. She's incredible.
She could play sort of any part from any era.
Yeah.
But I really...
See, as much as it's depressing,
I kind of like the reality of it.
And I like that kind of outlook of
where are they all going to go?
They've got nowhere to go.
There's nothing to aspire to.
I found it...
I don't know if it was just a bit too dark for me
or maybe it was my state of mind.
I mean, a bird had pooed on my face this week.
It possibly could be.
I think it was too much for me to take, to be honest.
But I love the family set-up at the beginning of Series 1.
Yeah.
Obviously, there will be spoilers in this.
Yeah, will you tell me?
Because I kind of... I've only done one episode. be spoilers in this. Yeah, will you tell me?
Because I kind of, I've only done one episode,
so I kind of want you to just basically tell me.
Well, I really love Chris's character, right?
Martin Freeman, right?
Because at the beginning, yeah,
he's a bit of a knobhead and what have you.
But as the series progresses,
there's just a lot of layers.
It's peeling the onion and you find out more about him.
And, you know, he's trying. He's a trier. He's peeling the onion and you find out more about him and you know he's trying
he's a trier he's always trying for his kid he's always trying with the wife but he's through
situations through this bloody job he's got this shift work through the night he's always something
lands on his desk which is either highly highly illegal or someone asks him a favour because they think, oh, you'll do it, you can help me.
So as much as he's a knobhead,
he's permanently helping people throughout
and that gets him into trouble.
So actually, most of the acts he's doing are quite selfless.
Well, yeah, yeah.
But he always ends up being the bad egg
and I suppose that's why I like him because he's the underdog.
But I really love his wife in it.
I like her, isn't it?
And in series two...
Yeah, what happens?
It's lovely.
It starts off and you go, oh, I'm straight back in.
Oh, good.
That's good.
I'm straight back in.
Because I don't like it when they do a first series
and then they pick up for the second one
and you're somewhere completely different.
No, I feel like you're there, you're back in there
and you're with him again and all the characters around him.
I did think, can't he take early retirement?
You know, because, I mean, when he was in there
and he was saying how difficult it was
and he was talking to his counsellor,
I was kind of like, and I was with his wife as well,
I thought she was ever so good.
So it's like the first episode of the first series
and she's on the phone to him and she says,
can we carry on with the counselling?
Can we do it privately?
And then there's a point where she's just not speaking to him
and she just either sort of shakes her head or she does something.
And I just thought she was just great.
Yeah, I think she was really good.
It was just completely like she's got nowhere else to go now.
She was just like, I'm just, I can't do anything now.
I can't do anything.
I thought that she was great.
But I was like, oh, for Christ's sake,
can't you take early retirement or something?
Surely they'd give you that.
Oh, yeah, but he's got, you know, money to,
financially he's got to do stuff.
Where else would he go?
But yeah, no, I fully enjoy it.
And I have to say, I could watch Martin Freeman all day.
Yes, yeah.
I really, really could.
Yeah.
I like it when he's being serious.
Yes.
Because I remember years and years and years ago
seeing him in a show called men only and it was um it was brilliant and it was the first thing i'd
ever ever seen him in and i hadn't seen him i saw him in the office after that and i remember being
quite freaked out because it was just such a completely different part because in men only
he plays quite a um not
downtrodden fella but he's a bit shy and he's a bit you know in himself and then he ends as a
group of men and then um he ends up like assaulting this woman and it really is i mean my god it was
years and years and years ago and it's a scene that's really stayed with me and there's just
something about when he's serious he's i don't know, just he can be really dark and he can play stuff.
I like watching him in the one with Daisy Haggard, Breeders.
Yes, I love Breeders.
Because in Breeders, he gets quite dark and quite angry in that.
And I like watching him like that.
I mean, to be able to go from pure comedy in the office.
I absolutely loved him in Sherlock.
Yes, I liked him in Sherlock as well.
It's very good.
It's very, very good.
But if you like your cop drama,
I don't know why I'm American all of a sudden,
but if you like a police drama with a good emotion in it
and a good story, I'd say give it a watch.
I would say give it a watch.
I think I'll go back in and try again. I liked
seeing Ian Hart in it
because I think he's brilliant.
The whole of the cast, I mean, it's a cracking cast
isn't it? I think so. Yeah. Stiller.
But I did my first ever film with
Ian Hart and I loved
him for ages. I thought he was a cracking actor. Who does
Ian play, Jo? So he plays, I'm not
sure what the character's called, but you know the one, the
drug dealer who's in the first episode
who's after Casey. Yes, okay.
Yeah, she's got the big curly
dark hair. Okay, yeah. And so he's
after her and he's really quite scary in it and everything.
Very much so, yeah. So years and years and years ago
I must have been, I think I was in my second
year of drama school and they
don't like you going and doing any acting
work because you have to just stay
there for the three years and have everything stripped away so they can build you back up again and have no
experience of acting and have no experience what's best is just do not go out there and have any form
of experience of the job which you are hoping to you know get a job we've had a very different
experience we have because i started at 10, straight on the job.
Well, I must have been about 19,
and I'd already got an agent by that point,
and so it must have been at the end of my second year.
And they phoned me and they said,
there's a part for you, it's this babysitter in this film
called This Year's Love.
And so it was a scene with Jennifer Ely and Ian Hart.
And I was like, oh my God, they're just, like, they're amazing.
So I went to meet for it and
the only way that I could get out of my class was to say that I had a gas leak in my um little
studio flat that I was living in so I employed all of my best acting skills and I managed to get the
afternoon off and I went into Soho auditioned for this and they gave me quite a long audition as
well and it was just one scene I had like a line and then I remember
being so I got the part and I remember being really excited because the costume designer
took me out to go around shopping around the shops. Nice for the days. I know and I got a
really really nice pair of um really tight and then flary flares and I was like and then she
let me keep them afterwards and I was like oh my god this is amazing I can't believe this is a job
so I was really nervous and I didn't come out of my trailer at all until I was needed because I was like, oh, my God, this is amazing. I can't believe this is a job. So I was really nervous. And I didn't come out of my trailer at all until I was needed because I was absolutely terrified.
And at one point, he knocked on my trailer door.
And he said, I just want to check.
Are you OK?
And I said, I am, thank you.
And he said, I just want to make sure you're all right.
And then he went.
And he was ever so nice and really, really sweet.
What a lovely man.
He was really nice.
And then I went with my family.
And, oh, my God, the nerves god the nerves right you know as my scene was
coming up so it goes to night time she like goes on this date and then um suddenly it's morning
and I was like oh my what I don't understand um and then it was just like well I don't understand
and it took a while because I was like oh they must have put it somewhere else and then I realized
where they had put it was on the cutting room floor. And my scene had been
cut and I was just devastated.
However, great
experience. Good experience. And none of
your drama teachers knew.
Never had to know. And I got a few
pair of flares. Perfect.
Yeah. So actually it always works out
well in the end. Yes.
Well, if you
want to watch The Responder,
you can catch it on BBC iPlayer.
Right, on to our next one.
Yeah.
The Fortune Hotel.
Now, this was recommended to you.
It was recommended by my mum.
Oh, was it?
Yes, my mum has seen it.
Oh, I can't remember.
Yeah, yeah.
My mum's... I don't think I've told you
this, but my mum, no, she sent me a text message
and said to me, you've got to watch the
Fortune Hotel. Her and dad were loving it.
Loving it. Yeah. Right. Well, this
was also recommended by a lot of you at
home. And there was talk of it being like
a Traitors, which we were very, very happy
with because we love the Traitors.
Yeah. So, to
summarise,
it's the Traitors on a holiday with a suitcase full of money yeah it's a bit like i thought it was like half traitors half chase the
ace on holiday what's chase the ace oh my god have you never played the card game chase the ace
no it's brilliant so you deal out you have to take three of the aces out of the pack. Yeah.
And then you deal out all of the cards.
And someone's got the ace.
One person has got the ace.
And then you've got to keep taking a card.
And then if you've got a double, you put that down until one person is left with the ace. I think I might have played that.
You probably have.
At some point.
So that's kind of like with the sending home the sword, you know, card, isn't it?
Yes.
I really, I watched four of these yesterday afternoon.
Yes.
Because I just wanted to chill and the kids could watch it.
Yeah.
And again, it was one of those shows, they really enjoyed it.
Joni loved it more than anybody.
Now, if a seven-year-old is loving it more than anybody,
is it really good?
It is.
It is, isn't it?
It is.
It is. Stephen Mangan I like. Yeah. Is it really good? It is. It is, isn't it? It is. It is.
Stephen Mangan I like.
Yeah.
Like him a lot.
And it's just very, very close to the Traitors,
to the point where you go,
oh, how can they get away with it?
I know, but I loved it.
I loved it.
I just give me anything like Traitors.
It's simple.
You're seeing the couples.
I was really annoyed about the first couple that went home, though.
God, which was the first couple now?
They just seemed the funnest, the campest, the funnest.
Yes!
And I was gutted they went.
Oh, yes.
Because I think they would have been really fun all the way through.
Yeah.
I didn't get as invested, if I'm honest, in the people.
Yes.
As I did the Traitors.
Yes.
But I just liked the game yeah just easy watching
chuck it on yeah when the traitors isn't on i'd put it on yeah but it doesn't beat the traitors
in my eyes yeah it doesn't beat the traitors but i flipping loved it yeah i mean me and eva sat down
to watch it and i'm not joking right we watched all eight episodes in one go we watched six yeah so it was
we watched it on yeah all yesterday so we watched six and then I said right should we take a break
and then everybody go and have baths because I'm starting to feel quite ill because we've watched
so many in a row so everybody was bathed and then we got into our big bed and then we watched the
last two and I knew I needed to get it done because I was worried if we talked about it
that you would like reveal something and I thought I'm loving get it done because I was worried, if we talked about it, that you would, like,
reveal something. And I thought, I'm loving this too much.
I've got to watch it. I don't think I'm going to get to
the end of it. I think Joni's probably
finished when she's got home from school today. Oh my god, so you
don't know who's won? Who won? Oh my
god, thank god I haven't said anything. No, I don't
mind. I'm not going to say. Oh no, tell me.
Really? Yeah, I don't mind. Oh my god. I don't
love it that much. That's how I know.
Yes. It's on and I don't mind it,
but I couldn't give two hoots who won the thing.
Oh, my God.
It's not like The Traitors for me.
Well, I really enjoyed that it was like,
it was so kind of close to The Traitors,
but I just loved it.
I loved the music.
I loved the way that it was.
I thought Stephen Mangan was a fab host.
I thought he was just really lovely.
He's very good on the portrait artist of the year, isn't he?
Yeah, he's like, he's got this nice, you know, vibe to him. He's quite calm on the portrait artist of the year, isn't he? Oh, he is, yeah. He's like, he's got this nice, you know,
vibe to him, and he's quite calm, and he's
lovely to watch. Although I do watch those
things, Jo, I think.
I could present that. Yes.
I think we could. Can we? I think we could, yes.
I think we both could.
Go on and go, how you doing? Yeah.
Because, I mean, it was, it was quite relaxed, wasn't it?
It was like, hi, everybody, how are you doing?
And the hotel, I said, could you put the hotel name up at wasn't it? It was like, hi, everybody. How are you doing? And the hotel.
I said, could you put the hotel name up at the end, please?
I know.
Because it looked lovely.
It did, didn't it?
Caribbean, wasn't it?
Yes.
Can you imagine if you and me presented that?
It would be, oh, my God.
We'd knock out a few episode bits.
Then we'd be like, right, come on out.
Get your towels.
Get in the pool.
Get that cocktail, girl.
Me and Eva were laughing so much.
Because every time they came into
the bar at the end they always were handed a drink and i was thinking an orange juice because i was
getting really pissed off actually yeah because they're all sat around ready for their yes what
was it called at the end the um it was the bar no but it was called something the lucky the lucky
lady luck the lady luck yes and um i kept, thinking, is it grapefruit juice or an orange juice?
Yeah, I think it must have been.
Well, whilst, have you seen the wine cabinet?
But I bet they were furious.
Well, I was thinking they must have all needed a wee
because the glasses were that big,
but they wouldn't have given them alcohol, would they?
Have you seen it so far when the Welsh couple go off?
No, not seen that yet.
Oh, I did.
Yes, and the young girl, she gives the right mouthful.
Oh, dear.
But I loved it, and it was like, oh, my God, it was so good
when they were working out then and, you know,
how to hand it down everywhere.
I really liked it because it took me a while.
I thought, how's this going to work with the tasks, you know, in the day?
Yeah.
And I really enjoyed the idea of one to nine.
Yes.
And then kind of the order and then the power you get to watch everybody else swap and all of that.
No, I liked it.
Yeah.
I liked it.
Yeah, it was fun.
But if it was on at the same time as The Traitors, I wouldn't be watching it.
Yeah.
I'd record it.
And if there was a second series, I definitely would watch that.
Yeah.
If it was a rainy day and I had nothing else on.
No, I would watch it regardless.
Very good.
Yeah.
So our last one, Inside Number Nine.
I feel like we should do a whole flipping episode on Inside Number Nine.
I don't know where to start with it, Jo.
And it's the last series.
I know.
It's boom, over.
But isn't it just perfect that it's the ninth series?
Yeah.
Before we talk about this new series, I'm going to say it yet again.
Yeah. Because I've been saying to you and Georgia, our producer,
you have to watch series one, episode six, The Harrowing.
Any of our listeners, right, have you watched The Harrowing?
And if you have, will you send a voice note in
and will you convince these two to watch The Harrowing?
I'm sure I've watched it, but I can't...
No, you'd remember.
Would I?
Oh, Jesus, you'd remember. Would I? Oh, Jesus, you'd remember.
You would remember.
It's all self-rightening.
Mark and I absolutely love it.
And our go-to episode for people who go,
what's Inside Number Nine about?
We go, just watch Quiet Night In.
Oh, yes.
Good, yes.
Watch Quiet Night In because it's so cleverly done.
It's so amazing. It's all musical. Yeah. Good, yes. Watch Quiet Night In because it's so cleverly done. It's so amazing.
It's all musical.
Yeah.
Not a musical.
It's all set to music.
There's no dialogue.
It's so clever.
It's not scary.
Sardines is amazing.
I mean, they're all amazing.
I love this right, though, because this shows, like,
how you and me are different, right?
Because that's your go-to one, that one, you know,
the Quiet Night In. Yes. And then my go-to one, that one, you know, the Quiet Nighting.
Yes.
And then my go-to one is the one,
and I don't know what the name of it is,
but it's the one with Rue Lelenska
and that fab actress who started out in Call the Midwife.
What are they doing?
They go to, like, it's like a ski lodge type thing
and they're filming a movie
and it's a bit of, like, a horror filmy type movie
and they're all on set and they're all actors.
Listen, I've seen loads of them.
Loads and loads and loads of them.
Did you see the live one?
Yes.
Did you remember watching the live one?
Wasn't it a Halloween one?
A Halloweeny one and it was in the TV studios
and again, that was set.
Yes.
What I would say to anybody who's never seen Inside Number Nine,
it's really, really difficult to describe.
Oh, I would say.
Because every single one of them is so different.
But when I was watching it the other night,
I was thinking it's like Tales of the Unexpected.
Yes.
It's exactly like Tales of the Unexpected.
So it's a short little half an hour,
and then it's like a sort of, kind of, a bit of a morality tale.
Yeah.
And then it's always, most often, quite dark.
And it'll start out, and you don't kind of know where it's going.
And then in the last five minutes you're like, oh Jesus Christ!
And the cast in each one
is stellar. They've got great
guest actors. Fantastic guest actors
because apart from Rhys
and Steve
sorry, Rhys Shearsmith and Steve
Pemberton, most of the cast changes
but they, what an
amazing job to have.
They write it and then they choose these characters to
play but i just love it and it's incredible watching it just purely because of the history
of them yes of like just watching like reese shearsmith and thinking of all the other characters
he's played yeah and oh my god what weird thing is he going to do now and then steve pemberton
who's just like oh my god they just they're such a chameleon, Steve. Yeah. And they just completely change who they are.
And it's just everything they've been and done before
and the darkness of the stuff they've done.
I just love watching them.
It's amalgamated.
Yeah.
And the way they've matured through their career
and their writing career and their comedy career,
this is kind of, for me, the peak.
As much as all the other things are brilliant,
maybe it's because of my age.
Maybe I wasn't quite right when they did...
Oh, League of Gentlemen.
Maybe I just wasn't the right age for League of Gentlemen.
Maybe I should go back to that.
But for me, this is their best work and I love watching it.
My friend Tanya Franks.
Do you remember the one that was set in the hotel?
Yes. And it was all in the hotel? Yes.
And it was all in Shakespearean.
Yes.
Do you remember?
She played the prostitute.
God, yes, yes.
I love that episode.
And you just, you don't know from episodes.
You have no idea.
You don't know what they're going to do.
No.
How the hell do they manage to, there's always a twist at the end, isn't there?
Always.
So this series, I booter a goose it
was the first one of series three yeah set on a train and again like you say it's always got a
little story there it's like a little fable but i loved it i loved the fact you know i don't even
want to spoil it because i feel like they're so special what about there's always that moment
isn't there where your blood just turns cold and you get goosebumps because suddenly you just
realize something well you realize what's going on almost don't you yeah they're really really clever they
just always catch you unawares don't they and you can pop it on whenever you like yeah and it's just
one single half an hour to an hour depending unbelievable yeah i love it imagine having a
brain like that just getting up going i I'm just going to write another Inside Number 9 today.
Oh, my God.
When did you work with them?
Were you in Psychoville?
I was.
What did you have to do?
I made a very small cameo appearance.
I had to put a really large fat suit on.
Yeah.
And I played a chef, like a cook,
and I was strung up with sausages.
Yes?
So were you hanging in the air?
Yeah.
Like, when you are hung in a show,
did they have to put, like, a harness on you or something?
Yes.
Yes, I believe so, yeah.
Oh, my God.
I just remember being there.
They were so lovely.
They were, like, lovely to see, you know.
Yeah.
But I was so in awe of it all that I just remained silent
and I just did it and I went home.
Oh, did you?
It was too much for me.
I know, I can imagine.
I would have just sat there just staring at them.
Did they say anything to you?
Did they say anything?
Yeah, they said, thank you, brilliant job.
Years and years and years ago, I did a short film
and Rhys Shearsmith was in it.
And I didn't speak to him at all.
I just stared at him without him knowing.
But I was just like, oh my God, I'd seen so much of his stuff.
I just couldn't stop looking at him.
And then we ended up somehow, all of us, talking about horror films.
And I remember that he recommended watching Exorcist 3
and I watched it afterwards and it scared the shit out of me.
He's very into Halloween, isn't he?
He is.
I love looking at his social media pages.
Very, very spooky man.
But I get freaked out
when it's coming up to Halloween
because he always puts scary things on.
Yeah.
I'm going to go back
and watch The League of Gentlemen.
Right, you've got to watch
a masterclass in characters.
Just a masterclass.
That's all you were local, isn't it?
Yes.
Is that where that comes from?
This is a local shop for local people.
Yeah.
Oh, I remember.
I was going to say then that I was somewhere the other day
and I was saying, because it was quite uninviting,
and I was thinking, oh, my gosh, this is a local shop for local people.
It's so good.
It's a bit like that in my village pub.
It's so good.
Everyone turns round.
Yes.
They don't know who they are, including me.
But, oh, my God, Inside No. 9. It's just absolutely brilliant. yes I don't know who they are including me but oh my god
Inside Number 9

Have you got any recommendations for us?
Let's listen to this voice note from Paula
with her recommendation.
Hi, ladies.
Thank you so much for this podcast.
I absolutely love it. A recommendation from me is definitely Bridgerton. It's on Netflix. It's amazing. It's amazing. I really want you to watch it. I think you're both going to love it. Loving the show. Thanks very much. Paula from South Wales. Oh, lovely Paula.
South Wales, South Wales.
Thank you so much, Paula.
Shall we do that next week?
Yes, shall we?
We're going to do it for you, Paula.
We will.
We'll watch a few.
Never seen one in my life.
I'm lying.
I've seen half an ep or something, but I haven't watched it.
So what I might do, I might watch sort of one from series one
and then do a bit later or is that going to confuse me I'll have a look I don't know I'm
going to go straight in there on the new series it's series three isn't it yeah because I've not
seen any of it before I've got some lovely friends who have worked in the costume department on it
and they've had a ball so Paula we'll have a look at that for sure right we've got another
voice note from hannah with a recommendation hello natalie and joe it's hannah here from
twickenham loving the podcast it keeps me sane every week while i'm putting away washing so
thank you i would like to recommend that you guys watch clarkson's farm on Amazon Prime. So series three dropped, I don't know, was it last week?
But it is so funny. Just laugh out loud, whether you love him or hate him, because let's face it,
he is Marmite. Let me know what you think. You've got three whole series to watch, but
I think you should just go straight into series three if you haven't watched series one,
because you don't need to watch the whole thing. It's just brilliant, every single episode.
Congrats on the podcast once again.
Lots of love.
Mark and I have watched Series 1 and Series 2.
Oh, have you?
We absolutely love it.
Hannah, can't wait to watch Series 3.
Should we do it next week?
Yes, definitely.
Have you seen any of it yet?
I've seen Series 1.
Okay.
But that's it and I haven't seen any of Series 3.
This hotwarming stuff.
I started following Lisa, his girlfriend, on social media.
She's very stylish and beautiful.
Well, that's why I followed her, because I really like her farmyard chic.
And so that's why I followed her, because I thought I really like what you're wearing.
I get it. I get it.
Well, I love Caleb. I just love Caleb.
And the show's made him a bit of a star.
And do you know what? I think any underdog, like I say, young farmer just love Caleb. Oh, yes. And the show's made him a bit of a star. And do you know what?
I think any underdog, like I say, young farmer,
no one knew him from Adam, suddenly does a little show
and he's all over the place.
And I love it.
He's lovely.
I love it.
So, absolutely.
We're going to watch Series 3 for you, Hannah, next week.
That'll be lovely.
Definitely.

Thanks for listening and we'll be back with more Off the Telly
next Wednesday on BBC Sounds.
Bye!
Off the Telly is hosted by Natalie Cassidy and Joanna Page.
The producer is Georgia Keating.
The commissioning editor is Rhian Roberts, and it's a BBC Studios audio production for BBC Sounds.
This is a story about one of Britain's most revered institutions,
and the theft of ancient treasures that were sold around the world.
It felt like a real punch to the stomach.
My God, things are being stolen from our museum.
I'm Katie Razzell, and from BBC Radio 4,
this is Thief at the British Museum.
At the heart of our tale is an antiquities dealer turned amateur detective
thrown into the centre of a global scandal.
I was shocked.
I remember that, listening to my hair stood on end.
