BBC Sounds, music, radio, podcasts.
Hello and welcome to Off The Telly from BBC Sounds.
I'm Natalie Cassidy.
And I'm Joanna Page.
And this is the podcast where we talk all things telly.
Now we might do a bit of swearing and we might give you some spoilers,
but there you go. It's tough.
I look forward to your swearing and spoilers warning every time now.
Do you?
I do.
Because I've now suddenly become the one who does it.
Yeah, you've nailed it now.
It's like you've got to get it done and it's tough.
And this might happen and that's the way it is and that's the way it goes.
You're really strong on it and I like it.
I try different ways of doing it and I like it.
I try different ways of doing it and I'm not quite sure how to do it.
And I do have a slight little stomach butterfly before I say it because I'm kind of like,
I always want to say something more and make like a funny gag or something, but there isn't one to do.
So I've just gone like, well, we're going to swear and we're going to cock up the shows for you sometimes.
But it's tough.
Get over it.
Deal with it.
No, I like it.
I really like it.
You look very
fresh today well do you know i'm trying out a cc cream now i've never worn anything on my face
aside from moisturizer unless i'm working right but i've never worn foundation i don't wear
anything on my face i put some concealer on but i've never been a foundation person and joe this
girl i was with recently she, her skin was glowing.
And she said she thought it was sweat.
And I was like, no, your skin is glowing.
And she told me about this CC cream
that she got on this website.
And so I've gone and bought it.
I bought it literally there and then
and I'm wearing it for the first time today.
Looks absolutely gorgeous.
Can I just say,
have you got a little bit of rouge on there as well?
Yes, but do you know what I've
done? Go on. I don't have blusher, I'm wearing
lipstick. But on your cheeks? Yes. I like
that though. Yeah. Because it's not drying.
Yeah, it's not drying. It's, yeah,
and also, all I've got to do is just
carry around the one thing with me. I've just gone, right,
okay, a bit of lipstick, and I'll put the lipstick
on my eyes sometimes.
But I'll put it on my...
I'll put it on my eyelids sometimes to have a bit of a pinky glow. And then I put it on my eyes sometimes but i'll put it on my i'll put it on my eyelid sometimes to have a bit
of a pinky glow and then i put it on my cheeks i'm a one i'm a one stick gal i kind of get it
but be careful heavy on the red on on the eyelid because you could end up looking like a crack
addict i could i could but i'm not going for a full bright red. Okay. Although I think you probably could tone it down a bit.
Even if you had bright red, you could probably do that a bit on the back of your hand
and then put a little dab on.
I might just experiment with it and send you a photo to see if I can pull off the crack addict look.
And if you can't do that, perhaps I could hire you to be a clown for one of the kids' birthday parties.
You could, because then I would have to put the red also on my nose.
Correct.
So I would have it on all parts of my face.
I like it.
So what have you been up to?
What have you been doing?
It's been a busy old time of it.
I don't know if you would have seen.
I worked with Ricky Gervais recently.
Well, I did.
Just so happened to see. Well, I did. Just so happened to see.
Well, I thought it was all going to be a big secret for a long time,
which is why I've not mentioned it to anyone.
And then he posted a picture up on his Instagram.
I was very excited to see you sitting there.
I was like, oh, there she is.
So it was really lovely.
And it's for a new animation he's doing.
I can't say any more than that.
But it's been absolutely amazing
to get to work with all those people.
Oh my God, it must have been so much fun.
So much fun.
Because they're all just brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant.
Were you scared?
Did you feel like you were going to poo yourself
before you started?
Yeah.
Or were you all right?
No, no.
I was so serious about it.
I thought I can't embarrass myself
because I'm a huge fan of Ricky's yeah
and have been for many many years and I thought well I just need to play it really cool now
and I need to go in be professional not say too much yeah so I did two days and I just took it
all in actually I was really really adult about it there were parts of the day I thought just sit
here and just listen because this may
never happen again.
Yeah.
So just watch a genius in action, which is what I felt I did.
So it was brilliant.
It was brilliant.
Oh my God.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
I can't wait to see it and hear it and everything.
Yeah.
I'm very looking forward to it.
Only a little bit.
Only a little bit.
Well, that's pretty amazing.
Thanks, Jo.
I'm very, very excited.
Right then, what have our lovely listeners been saying this week?
Oh, now let's hear this voice note from a listener talking about slow horses.
Oh, I forgot about that one. Hi, girls.
I just wanted to say I love the podcast.
I love listening to it.
It's such easy listening.
And you two are so funny together. Something that
you's recommended was Slow Horses and it's Gary Oldman playing Jackson Lamb. That show was just
so good. I gobbled it up, watched it all. Brilliant. Great recommendation. Thanks, girls.
Oh, thank you. I've recommended Slow Hors horses to my parents have you because they're
like right we need something new to watch now what can we watch and so i said slow horses i've been
telling you for flipping ages slow horses you love it but it's taken them a long time to um get the
subscription they're holding off and then mum was like well we've done this one now and then we've
done that subscription we're going to wait a bit now and then that one's run out because she gets
we start a free trial or whatever no i get it it's a lot for people yeah it's a lot
of money actually yeah all these different things so isn't it but it is worth it yeah i said to her
you need to watch slow horses also the morning show i've seen that yeah i said to her you've
got to watch the morning show and they've just finished watching rob and rylan's um travel oh
yes and because dad was refusing to watch it.
Yeah, Dad was like, no, I'm not watching that.
I'm not watching that.
I just don't think I would enjoy it.
I would enjoy it.
And Mum was like, they've recommended it.
The girls have said for us to watch it.
Nigel, we're going to watch it.
They sat down and Dad was like, whoa.
And then the other day he was just going, it was brilliant.
It was just brilliant.
Oh, he loved it.
Oh, absolutely loved it.
Oh, well done, Nigel.
Yeah, he absolutely loved it. All of the art it. Oh, well done, Nige. Yeah, he absolutely loved it.
All of the art and then where they were and all of that.
But then he was just saying just how wonderful the pair of them were together.
And then it was just how just it was heartbreaking and it was really warm and it was funny.
And just the whole massive big thanks.
They loved it.
Oh, I'm so pleased.
That's lovely.
But thank you so much for that.
And we're pleased that you've watched Slut Horses all the way through.
Yes. I want to go back to it. it me too i'm still in the first series yeah i want to go
back to it because it is blooming marvelous and you know that i work obviously with mo
no so big mo on extenders oh yes gary oldman's sister yes yes so i said I said, oh, we're watching Slow Horses. Did you tell her? Yeah, of course. What did she say?
Yeah.
Is that what she said?
I said, Mo, I said, your Gary's brilliant in that Slow Horses.
She went, yeah.
I said, what did you like him in the most, Mo?
Like, he's your brother.
Is that amazing?
Is it amazing?
She went, yeah.
She said, he was wonderful as Winston Churchill.
I said, he was amazing. She went, for me, though, I like, he was wonderful as Winston Churchill. I said, he was amazing.
She went, for me though, she went, it's just all the continuity mistakes.
I say to him, Gary, Gary, one minute the lid was here,
the next minute that was off the tape, you know,
one minute she's got her bra on, then she's got,
and I said, is that what you talk to your brother about, really?
You moan about the continuity of stuff.
Oh my God.
But his feet kept on the ground
yeah you know yeah brilliant that's hilarious though isn't it yeah because we are like oh my
god it's gary oldman yeah but can you imagine he is just a brother isn't he yeah absolutely
yeah yeah it's lovely lovely really lovely she's gorgeous i love her to bits we've got to get
ourselves back to slow horses yeah we will yeah we'll get there oh we've
also had a nice voice note from jane about where she listens to the pod oh hello you two well i'm
saying you two like i know you two but i feel like i know you two because i normally save up your
episodes for if i've got a long drive to Scotland or London,
you two keep me company on the way.
I'll explain, because I'm a truck driver,
just to let you know that I'm not driving my truck today.
I'm in Polignano Amara in Southern Italy.
I'm catching up with you there.
I'm sat on the roof.
Not just on the roof, like, you know,
like I've broke out of prison.
I'm sat on the roof terrace
with a well-known Italian beer brando
and a lovely piece of focaccia.
I'll focaccia you soon.
Bye. Oh, soon. Bye.
Oh, Jane.
Bye, Jane.
I loved all that message
until you said you were sat in Polonano
with a bit of focaccia.
Oh, that's so lovely.
I know, can you imagine?
She did make me laugh when she said
about sitting on top of the roof,
but not like she just escaped from prison.
She was brilliant.
And I'll focaccia you later.
I like that a lot.
Yeah, very much.
Do you know when I,
and I can't even say it's when I first came to London,
I'd been out of drama school for absolute years.
I mean, it must have been about 11 years ago, I'd say.
And I was living in East Dulwich
and there was a really nice deli there
and they did all nice breads and everything
and I knew that I liked for Catchy Aleda.
And I went in there and there was a big queue
and then I got to the front of the queue
and there were loads of people behind me
and he said, oh, can I help you?
And I said, yes, please.
Could I have a loaf of focaccia, please?
And he just sort of looked at me
and I said something was wrong, but I didn't know.
And then he gave it to me
and then I realised what I'd said
and I just had to go, well, thank you very much, goodbye.
And I walked out and I was like, oh my God, I am so mortified.
I'm so mortified that I've called it...
Fuck a cheer.
Fuck a cheer.
Well, at least you didn't say fuck a me-er.
I think that would have been better.
That would have been awkward to the baker.
Oh, Jane, you sound like you're having
the most amazing time.
Yeah, lovely.
Now, what's on Polignano?
Is Polignano where Ripley was filmed?
I don't know.
Am I making that up?
I think you might be making it up.
Okay, but again, I can imagine those little steps
and it'll be all Ripley-esque, you know?
Yeah.
Little whitewashed buildings and beautiful flowers
and crystal clear, having a beer.
Enjoy it, Jane.
Yeah, have a nice time. Beautiful flowers and crystal clear. Having a beer. Enjoy it, Jane. Yeah.
Have a great time.
Have a nice time.
Oh.
Okay, this week we've been watching This Is Us on Amazon Prime,
Robson Green's Weekend Escapes on BBC iPlayer
and a new documentary series called Camden on Disney+.
Right then, let's talk telly.
This Is Us.
Well, we started doing it because it had been recommended so much.
Let's hear what one of you has to say about it.
So I have to recommend This Is Us, which you may have already watched,
but it's on, I think, Amazon Prime,
but it is one of the best TV shows I've ever watched
and the most tear-jerking series.
I think there's about five or six series
and I don't think there was a single episode that I didn't cry at.
It's about a family in America and it tells their story
from the 1960s right up to the present day
and actually a little bit beyond that.
And it is so amazing.
So, yeah, I definitely recommend that.
Oh. Firstly, I don't know where i've been why have i not watched this program have you heard of it i have heard of it
by a couple of friends of mine actually my friend tamika recommended it ages ago probably 18 months months ago anyway I've started it this week I've watched two yeah and I love it so much
I really really love this one Jo oh my god me too I'd heard about it for years but I'd never
watched any of it I just thought oh it just seems too I just haven't got time to start that now
and I thought it's probably going to be right up my street yeah and it starts
and it's it's American and it's all about um these people and their birthdays on the same day
and it kind of is going to be you know you're in for the long haul because there's a good few seasons
and and it started and I was kind of like oh god it's following these people and they've all been
born on the same day but they all somehow know each other that's weird how are they going to
pull that off and make it work and this right is right, is a big spoiler for the first episode.
Yeah.
Well, if you've seen it, you know, I finished the first episode.
Well, I just couldn't believe.
I can't believe the twist.
I just couldn't get over all of it.
And I was watching it and for some reason,
I didn't quite realise the jumping back.
Now, did I at all?
And then I realised, I was like, oh. Oh, God. Oh did I at all? And then I realised
I was like oh god. Oh they're all in
different clothes. Yes it's a different
era. Yeah. When
the dad so
she has triplets but one of the poor
babies doesn't make it. So
the doctor, the fellow who played
the doctor. Wasn't he unbelievable? He was
wonderful. He was absolutely
amazing. And he comes out and
he chats to the dad and says, I'm so sorry
but we lost one of your babies.
And then he talks to him about
he lost his first ever baby. It's just the most beautiful
scene ever. And then the dad
goes up and he goes then to go
and look at his children and go and see
his babies. And then he looks through the
window and there's his two little babies
there. And then there's another little baby to the right and this fella comes up and he's a fireman and then he
lights up a cigarette and he offers him a cigarette and I'm like what I don't get this yeah yeah and
then the dad says oh which ones are yours and then the fireman says oh none of them I we just um a
baby was just put on the doorstep of the fire station so we've brought him in and there he is
and at that moment if you've
seen it you will know what i'm talking about i just i was like oh god oh my god that's exactly
what i did away and then you can see they're in the 70s and these two are the parents and you can't
we've been following unbelievable i mean i've got goosebumps me too i was just like oh my god
oh my god they're all brothers and sisters oh my Because I was like, how can the three of them,
all of the births are in the same day?
I started crying and I was like, oh, my God.
This whole series is about time.
Time, nostalgia, family, values.
The acting is fantastic.
I know I've just started it, but I would say from what I'm looking at,
the writing is sublime.
And I urge everyone
to watch this programme
and come along and watch with me because
I'm at the beginning so if you haven't seen it
get watching it. I am not going to
be able to take it. It's so emotional but I tell you
what's amazing. There's a bit
in it where
one of them walks in. Yes.
And you're like oh
obviously they're flashing forward again.
But someone's not with the husband that they're with.
And you're like, I can't believe this.
Oh, God.
So it's so wonderful because I don't think I've ever watched anything
where the future would spoil it.
Yeah.
Whereas this, the future, you just want to know what's happening.
I just think it's so clever.
It's mad, isn't it?
Oh, my God.
It just, it's huge.
Well, Eliza watched two with me.
Yeah.
And also my mother-in-law, Jackie, was with us.
Yeah.
So the three of us have never seen it.
And also you've got to remember three completely different generations.
Yes.
And we all loved it.
Eliza said that's her summer holiday telly.
Oh, God.
She said she just wants to watch the whole thing.
And I said, I hate you because you've got the time to do that.
So she's just going to sort of lay rotting in her room as a teenager
and watch the whole thing.
Yeah.
All of it.
She can't wait.
Oh, my God.
I was like, don't spoil it for me.
You watch it right and you know that you are going to grow with these characters
and they are going to become like part of your family.
By the end of it, I am going to be bereft and I already know that.
I think I am too
it takes a lot for me
yeah yeah it does take a lot
for me but already I feel completely
invested in the characters that I've watched and I've only
watched two of them and my friend Julia
I said oh I'm watching This Is Us
and she genuinely she took my hand
she said you're so lucky
that you've not watched that yet oh my
god she absolutely loved every second of it and she said you're so lucky that you've not watched that yet. Oh my God. She absolutely loved every second of it.
And she said, you're so lucky that you've got all of that to watch.
Oh my God.
So I think it's a really special one.
It is. I think it's a really special one.
So go and watch it. It's on Amazon Prime, guys.
Yeah. We've had so many people voice noting us about it.
Yes.
So many.
And let us know if you literally are just starting it
at the same time as us as well.
And we'll go on this journey together.
We can binge together all six series.
There's six series.
Oh, we've got a good bit ahead of us.
We've got a lot there.
Now next, we've got Robson Green's Weekend Escapes.
So we had a listener recommend this a few weeks ago, Jo,
and it is right up our street is what they said.
We've also had a voice note from Emily,
specifically about Robson Green himself.
Listen to this.
When I was 15, 16,
instead of Fancy and Take That
and the same bands that everyone else did,
I was in love with Robson and Jerome
because I loved Soldier Soldier.
When I grew up, I married someone from Northumberland and I've actually with Robson and Jerome because I loved Soldier Soldier. When I grew up, I married someone from Northumberland
and I've actually met Robson once and hopefully in a couple of weeks,
a second time, I acted like a total moron the time that I met him.
I thought it was very necessary that he knew that I was in his fan club.
He told me there was only about three people in it.
So that just made me blush even more.
But anyway, he was my telly crush.
So, bye.
Oh, you're not a moron.
No, not at all.
It's good.
It's nice.
Yes.
I bet he really liked the fact that he's got a couple of fans still.
Yes.
Knocking around.
Yeah, I think so.
Don't be embarrassed.
Thank you for your message.
Lovely.
I chose the episode basically in dedication to you, Nat,
with Tessa Peake-Jones.
So did I.
That's what I watched.
Did you do Tessa's one?
Because I was like, I've got to do Tessa Peake-Jones
just because of Nat.
And she was doing yoga with goats.
Now, let's talk about this show a little bit.
Yeah.
I understand it.
And I go, this is lovely. He he is lovely you can tell he's a
nice guy very open you know i think he's really good presenting really good but i did think are
we really watching people in a field doing yoga with goats in there.
Yes.
I liked it because it quite literally doesn't have anything apart from feeling good.
When we watched Bill Bailey's one, that was like going on a lovely walk
and it was just so beautiful and calming and relaxing.
And he was chatting, you know, with one of his friends.
But then more often than not, there'd be, you know,
like when they're chatting, they're talking sort of about
either their problems or something that's affected them.
And it could get a bit sad.
You don't have anything like that in this one.
It is literally, you turn up somewhere.
Oh my God, the scenery is beautiful.
It is.
The rolling hills.
We're going to do yoga with goats.
We're going to drive tractors.
And it is just purely, if you need to sit down
and you need basically to be as if somebody is feeding you scones
while giving you a foot massage
and you've got little chicks floating around tweeting
and it's all really calm and gentle, this is the one for you.
Yeah, I think it's good, but I think it's a bit boring.
Yeah, it doesn't have any edge to it.
I completely and utterly understand.
I really understand the show.
Yeah.
And you're absolutely, if you want to completely switch off,
you haven't got to think about anything.
The little tent they stayed in, the little dome.
Oh!
It's like a clear dome and you're just overlooking, you know,
you can lay down in your bed and look at the stars
and the switching off from everyday life is brilliant.
Yeah. But I think what I did was sit there and go this is brilliant but I want to be doing it because I'm really busy
yeah watching this is aggravating me yes did it have the opposite effect on you did you feel a
bit pissed off by the end of it I was annoyed because I wanted to be Tessa Peake-Jones. I mean, I want to be Tessa Peake-Jones as it is.
Yeah.
But I wanted to be her in a field cooking fish on a stick.
Yeah, that looked good, didn't it?
Yeah.
I know what you mean because it was so...
It's so important to switch off.
Yeah.
And I don't think that we switch off enough, Joan, do you?
No, we don't at all.
And so watching that, because I think watching stuff,
we're so used to either learning something from it
or it being dramatic or a detective thing or, you know, something like that,
that if you are going to want to watch something,
just so basically you can go, oh, and you can just relax and switch off,
then probably to get that kind of feeling, I go, all right,
I'm going to book a massage or I'm going to go and read a book
or I'm going to take the dog out and I'm going to go and have a walk in the woods so to sit down and then watch something
like that is really nice but I didn't come away from it feeling like I'd learned anything or
whatever I was just like oh god I'd love to do that I'd love to go and stay there I'd really
love to stay there I really want to do that I really want to I should be doing yoga oh I should
be yeah cooking fish on a stick with no mobile around me. Yeah. And it made me feel a bit like shit.
It did make me feel like shit.
I was like, oh my God, I'm loving all of the goats.
The goats were really cute.
And I was thinking, if you do just want to sit down,
it's another one that I'd like to have on,
like in the background.
On a rainy day.
Yeah.
So it's raining.
Yeah, lovely.
I've got my jigsaw.
I've got my glass of sherry.
Agreed, agreed.
And then I put that on and I can just watch them attract. So. it's raining. Yeah, lovely. I've got my jigsaw. I've got my glass of sherry. Agreed, agreed. And then I put that on and I can just watch them all trapped.
That's perfect.
100% with you.
So that show would have to go on.
So for me, this would be perfect for me.
This show would be perfect.
I'd get up really early.
Yeah.
I'd clean my house from top to bottom, right?
Yes.
I'd have nothing in any washing basket.
Yeah.
It's a summer holiday,
so there's no getting up in the morning for school
and what homework the kids have got.
Nothing.
There's nothing going on.
And even the next day, there's nothing.
I don't know what I'm doing yet.
I might even just sit in the garden all day.
There's a heat wave, right?
There's a heat wave.
And everything's done.
And I would sit down with a glass of wine
and think, oh, stick that on.
Oh, God.
Because I've done everything, and I feel really good.
So that's Robson Green's Weekend Escapes.
If he asked you to, would you go for a weekend escape with him?
Oh, yes, please.
Oh, yes, please.
Why don't you do it, or me and Jo will pop along.
Yes.
What would we do?
Oh, I don't mind.
I'd quite like to.
Would you fancy a bit of pottery?
Yes, I would, actually. I wouldn't be very good at it. That's one thing I've never mind. I'd quite like to. Do you fancy a bit of pottery? Yes, I would actually.
I wouldn't be very good at it.
That's one thing I've never done.
Neither would I.
But we could do, I'd like just to ramble somewhere.
I would like to feed a goat or a baby lamb or something.
Lovely.
Yeah, I'd like to feed an animal.
I'd quite like to do some pottery.
And I'd quite like to go somewhere where I'm sort of, my feet are bare and I'm
putting them in the sand and it's warm and I'm just lying there. That's a holiday basically,
isn't it?
Yeah, that's our travelogue show that we're doing. That's going to be Caribbean Islands.
Caribbean Islands.
We're doing that. That's coming up in, I reckon, 2026.
Yes. Learning how to make cocktails in, I reckon, 2026. Yes.
Learning how to make cocktails in the Caribbean.
Yes, please.
Camden is on Disney Plus, and it is a series of documentaries all about different musicians who have graced the streets of Camden.
Now, when we said we were going to do this,
I think you were like, oh, it's right up your street.
And I was a bit like, oh, God, I can't be bothered.
I love watching documentaries,
but I don't think I would ever specifically watch one about music.
So I was just a bit like, oh, God, I can't be bothered.
Well, I watched the first one with Dua Lipa and...
What's his name?
From Coldplay. Lovely, Chris Martin and what's his name from Coldplay.
Lovely, Chris Martin.
Yes, Chris Martin from Coldplay.
I didn't see that one.
Tell me about it.
It was so good.
Yeah.
As soon as it started, I loved the whole opening sequence and it just reminded me of when I
first came to London and when I first went to Camden and I was like, oh my God, this
place is like so obviously different to Swansea.
This is amazing.
I feel so creative.
There's so much
going on it's just wonderful and then just listening to how they started and their first
experiences of Camden and then in the first episode as well it talks to like loads of other
different you know people like Madness and how they first began and how they managed to get a
gig by saying well we play a bit of jazz of jazz and not actually revealing what they were sort of like at all.
Yes, yeah.
And I just found it utterly fascinating.
I loved it.
I have to say that I love a documentary about music.
Like it's really up my street and I love watching them.
I found this a little bit tenuous.
I watched the one with
Noel Gallagher
and the Libertines
and I just sat there really and I went
why is Noel Gallagher on here talking about Camden
because
he's a Mancunian
What did he say about it?
Well he said that he came down here and
it was just a very odd link
to it and I think he might have had and, you know, it was just a very, like, odd link to it.
And I think he might have had a flat for a bit.
I just feel like they've stretched it out to make a series of shows about Camden when really there should be a really amazing in-depth one
about Madness who are actually Camden born and bred.
Yeah.
And Amy Winehouse, obviously, who lived in Camden.
But I understand the scene, the music scene that it was getting at.
Yes.
I just didn't think it was very well executed.
Really?
Yeah.
Why not?
So why not?
What did you think?
I don't know.
I just felt it was just a little bit put together in a way.
I don't know.
I just found it a little bit samey.
I didn't really learn much.
But maybe that's because I'm from Islington.
I used to drink in the Holy Arms. I used to drink in those pubs, Jo.
Really? Well, see, look, I'm coming at it from a completely different...
I'm coming at it from, I've come from Swansea.
Oh, my God, I've got to Camden.
So basically, they could have said anything in that show
and I would have just lapped it up and gone, oh, my God, this is amazing.
Because I wouldn't have known anything different.
But from somebody then who knows the area and knows that,
we all know what the animals are like, isn't it?
Yeah, I think because I know the area, I know what it's like down there.
Yeah.
There's a lot of characters down there, you know,
and I just thought, oh, I don't really know if you're...
I just didn't feel like they captured it.
But listen, I've only watched the one, like I said.
But seeing that as well, right?
And Pete Doherty, what a lovely guy.
Was he nice
oh
it nearly made me cry
in the documentary
why
he was just so eloquent
and very kind
and
um
yeah just very eloquent
and I just thought
oh
you've had such
a mad life
mad mad life
yet you're really grateful
just really had a lovely energy about him mmhmm and from those sort of Mad, mad life. Yet you're really grateful.
Just really had a lovely energy about him.
And from those sort of haunting pictures of him when he used to be on heroin and to now kind of sitting in this little pub with his little pint or whatever.
And you just think, oh, wow, you've had such a life.
And I'm really pleased you're okay.
You know, even Noel.
Noel Gallagher talks about living, obviously, he lived in London.
It wasn't Camden exactly where I knew he lived because I was a huge ISIS fan,
so I knew where he lived.
Did you?
I knew where he lived.
What, like his actual address?
Yeah.
And was it in London?
It was in London?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh.
Supernova Heights.
Oh, I know, yes.
Supernova Heights.
Yes.
Did you ever go and walk past his house?
No.
But I've driven past before.
Yes.
Oh, that was that.
But he talks about the bell we used to go continuously ringing,
ringing, ringing.
And in the end, he used to go, come here a minute.
I need Rizla papers, some crisps, some bananas.
Here's 50 quid, keep the change.
But will you go and get my shopping?
Oh, my God, that's amazing.
So he used to end up using.
I mean, really, Noel Gallagher kind of invented deliveroo yeah without even knowing it that's
amazing i bet he's gutted now jesus yeah it's interesting i would say give it a go they're
clutching at straws yeah to make a music documentary and they've kind of come up with this
idea yeah i would say give it a go right but
if you are majorly in the know about your music and everything it might not be for you it's a
beginner's a beginner's guide should we call it a beginner's guide to kind of a musical documentary
maybe yes lovely right before we go i wanted to play this voice note from a listener in melbourne
who's got some recommendations for us just ringing in to say how much I love love love your podcast um I look forward to listening to

I watched a couple of them.
Oh, did you think it was shit?
I didn't think it was shit, but it didn't catch my attention to carry on watching it.
Right.
But everyone went mad for it.
I did, I bet.
I am a bit like, if everyone's talking about it, I'm not interested.
I don't want to know.
I'm the same.
I give it a bit of time because I'm like, when everybody's going on and on and on,
I don't want to know.
That puts me off something.
That's what This Is Us happened, I think, to me.
Yes, yes.
Everyone went, oh, I'm not doing it now.
Yeah.
If everyone's doing it, I'm not doing it.
Yeah.
I'm just awkward.
Yeah.
No, I don't like it if everybody's raving about it.
I'm a bit like, I can't be that good.
I don't want to know.
No, it's all right.
Great.
Yeah.
Calm down.
But I quite fancy dark.
It's only three parts.
Sounds really, really good.
Thank you so much for all your messages and voice notes.
You guys are the absolute best
and we couldn't do this pod without any of you.
We hope you find all the recommendations useful
because we certainly do.
Oh my gosh, we so, so do.
Also, announcement time.
We've got another bonus episode of Off The Tele.
What shall we watch?
Dropping this Friday.
You've sent so many brilliant voice notes
about your favourite TV villains that we
just can't wait to get into them. There's
such a variety and there's even some from Gavin
and Stacey. I can't think of anybody
who's a villain from there, can you?
A villain? A villain from Gavin
and Stacey. Imagine if it's Stacey
and I am here just going, oh my god, who could it
be? And what if it's people going, it's Stacey
because she's really like... No, Stacey's not
a villain. No, I don't know who the villain is.
I'd like to hear that.
I look forward to hearing about that.
Me too.
Very good.
Looking forward to that one.
Yeah.
Well, that's enough telly for us this week.
We really love hearing from you
so please do keep sending us your messages
and voice notes on WhatsApp.
The number is 033-06-784-704.
This week we've been watching This Is Us on Amazon Prime,
Robson Green's Weekend Escapes on BBC iPlayer
and Camden on Disney+.
Thank you so much for listening.
Remember to look out for What Shall We Watch?
all about your favourite TV villains dropping on Friday
and we'll be back with more off the telly next Wednesday on BBC Sounds.
Bye!
See ya! Ian Roberts, and it's a BBC Studios audio production for BBC Sounds.
From BBC Radio 4, John Holmes says the C word.
I am John Holmes, and last year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Following surgery, I'm recovering just fine now, thanks for asking,
but it's all been a bit weird.
And I think it feels weird, not least because men don't really like talking about this stuff.
So I've gathered together a load of other men who've been through it for brutally honest and, yes, funny conversations about all things cancer.
Across the series, we'll be hearing from, amongst many others,
Stephen Fry.
You saved my life.
Oh my goodness.
It's a wonderful thing to hear.
Eric Idle.
It's not the most desirable side effect, but saved my life. Oh my goodness. It's a wonderful thing to hear. Eric Idle. It's not the most desirable
side effect, but it's funny.
And the BBC's international editor
Jeremy Bowen. I took a dump on a newspaper.
John Holmes says the C word.
Listen on BBC Sounds.
