Hello, welcome to Off the Telly with Nat and Jo!
Why are you wearing so many clothes?
I don't know and I feel a bit uneasy about it because I'm looking at you and you're
in that lovely t-shirt looking very summery and springtimey and I've gone for full on
geography teacher in the autumn.
So for the listener we have jeans and trainers.
The sandals are nowhere to be seen.
And thick socks.
A shirt.
Yeah.
A jumper.
Woollen.
And a jacket.
Tweed.
Tweed.
Have you got a vest on?
I haven't got a vest on.
We haven't got the vest.
I did put the sandals on this morning. Felt a bit chilly,
so I put on red ballet pumps, dropped the kids off at school and then was like flipping
neck, I'm freezing. Came back home and I'm now wearing Eva's trainers, which is really,
really sweet. And it's like walking on air.
They're lovely.
It's wonderful. But yeah, I'm feeling very comfortable, but Eva's been up this morning
since two o'clock being really, really ill.
Oh no.
First day back at school, one of mine's not going back because she's been sick all night.
Classic.
It's unbelievable. We had one at the beginning of Easter who was really, really ill and now her
right at the end before going back to school.
It's a nightmare.
Oh my god, does this mean that I'm going to come down with something?
I mean, it's never a good time to be ill. There isn't a good time.
But when they're about to go back to school and you just want the routine. Yeah. And now she's
got another few days off. And yeah and now we've got at least 48 hours off because of
the sickness. She's got a blinking geography trip on Thursday which she's wanting to go
on so, well fingers crossed, the thing with Kit lasted about three days but the thing
is as soon as she's through it, Bo will get it. Yeah.
And then that's going to be me, James.
You're going to have a whole revolving door of sick at home.
Yeah.
It's a nightmare.
Did you have a nice Easter though, apart from that?
Yes, I did.
Did the Easter bunny come?
The Easter bunny did come.
It was adorable.
And they were all out with their little baskets.
Yeah.
And it was just so sweet.
What about you?
I saw your stuff on Instagram.
Did you not have any food? You did the barbecue. We did a sweet. What about you? I saw your stuff on Instagram. Did you not
have any food? You did the barbecue.
We did a barbecue.
How was it?
It was lovely. But I did want to do a full on roast.
I know. I thought, Oh my God, that's going to be annoying you. When I saw your video
and you were like, I ordered everything. And then, you know, it's just not happening. I
just thought, what the hell is she going to do? She's not going to be happy with just
a barbecue.
Mark saved the day. Did he? Yeah. He was like, don't panic. I'm going
to look in the fridge. You know, yeah, we've got some frozen burgers, frozen sausages. He jumped
in the car. He went to like a local that was open and just said, right, I've got this, this,
coleslaw, some salad. And we made it work. I thought that was really nice. It was actually
really nice. Yeah. Everyone was fine. And thank God the sun was shining. I built a small little
tree house thing. I mean, it's not in a tree. It's basically, you know, like a small kids
Wendy house, play house, but it's like got some branches on it like a tree. I built that
for Beau and look at my knuckles. Can you, I look like I've been fighting. My knuckles
were bleeding because I was like trying to do the screws and just going boof and bashing
my knuckles.
Well done, you.
Yeah.
I was very proud of myself.
I would not put anything together.
Oh my God. I put everything. I laid a floor once.
Yes, brilliant. It is brilliant.
But yeah, it was nice. It was sunny, loads of chocolate.
Yeah.
Oh my God. Put the film grease on because Eva started, so this was like, well,
this was on bank holiday Monday. Eva was like, she was starting to come down with it and was like,
really hot and everything. And so she was on the sofa, everybody was all cuddled round and I decided
to put on Grease for the film. Very inappropriate, isn't it? Well, oh my god, there were some bits,
I've got to say, right, when I was a little girl,
I used to watch Grease every single day and I loved it and I do still love the film and
all of it went over my head. But sitting there watching it with my kids, so many moments.
There's one bit where one of the fellas is just lying in like the seat-in thing when,
you know, there's the sports pitch there. He's just lying on his back just looking up
the girls' dresses. And I thought, I don I don't know I'm gonna explain this away.
I mean this is like we're gonna have to just... well oh my god.
It hasn't aged well.
No!
It really hasn't.
And then we watched the original Mean Girls which we enjoyed and they've never seen before
but with that I was a bit like oh my god.
I don't think I've seen that.
Oh yeah.
Oh but it's nice. Nice to have a few
days off with everybody, isn't it? Oh my God, it was lovely. Oh my God. And also, Sonia's
gone. Sonia went. How did you feel? Well, we were in Cornwall, we went on a holiday,
we had a lovely time. And it was a Thursday evening that I left in it. So I said, oh,
I want to watch it, you know, because it's the last one. And I felt quite emotional. But do you know what? Maybe I've missed it where I wasn't
watching it properly, but I feel like they cut out the scene, which was my favourite scene.
Yeah. And what is it?
Sonia and Phil and me and Phil just having a moment in the square.
Yeah?
Didn't see it.
Oh my gosh, do you think they've cut that bit out or you might have missed it?
You might have missed it.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Let us know.
Yeah.
I might have to go back and have a look but I'll be really cross because it was a really
nice scene.
Anyway, she left on a speedboat with her trumpet.
Yeah I love that.
I've had loads of DMs and messages and stuff just saying
how people have shed a tear, but a happy tear. Yeah, because it was nice. It was just nice
and joyful. It wasn't sort of depressing and didn't just leave in a black cab. So it was
just fun. I thought it was fab. It was great. It was a trumpet as well. And that video that
you posted and EastEnders posted as well, you know, about, oh my God, everything that
you've done. Yeah. All the different story oh my God, everything that you've done. Yeah.
All the different storylines and the different things that you've done. My particular favourite
was when Pauline came round and she gave you a belt of a slap. Did she actually hit you?
I think that was, yes, yes she did. And I think that was after the line.
Bringing up Flem.
Bringing up Flem.
So good. That was so good.
Bring up a baby, you can bring up Flem. Bringing up Flem. So good. That was so good. Yeah.
Bring up a baby, you can bring up Flem.
And you're only small when you say your next.
I mean it's so good.
I've said she hit me.
Maybe she didn't, you know, because I was small.
Oh my goodness.
A lot of us do go, let's just go for it.
Let's just go for it.
But it probably was a stage slap, I would say, back then.
Well, if it was, it's one of the best ones I've ever seen because it didn't lock it.
It looked like she really slapped you and you looked so taken aback afterwards.
Yeah.
I was doing a bit of a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip.
I was doing a flip. I was doing a flip. I was doing of the best ones I've ever seen because it didn't look it. It looked like she really slapped you and you looked so taken aback afterwards. I was
doing a play once with an actor and he was really pissing me off and he was just annoying
me. But that was a really good slap.
No, it is. It's lovely looking back at all the memories, all the moments.
Oh my God.
But it's also really nice. I just feel really... Well, you're already on the radio. How did it go? How did that feel? What was it like?
It was really good. I reckon.
But again, it's just another thing to tick off the list, isn't it? A little bucket list of firsts.
Yes, and it's good to do things that scare you.
It is good.
Get the adrenaline pumping. Get it going.
It was good. It was good.
Oh my god.
So in amongst all of that, what in the hell are we supposed to have been watching?
Lots and lots of things, but before we go on to that, have you heard about Greg James?
No.
Greg James keeps talking to me on Instagram saying that he wants Air Force Hun to happen.
Oh my God.
And it's myself, Alison Hammond.
Love it.
The GC.
Yeah.
Denise Welch.
Oh God, yeah.
I think there's one more that I can't remember.
And he said that we should go up into space.
I think that'd be amazing. But I said, what is all this about? Why are we talking should go up into space. I think that would be amazing.
But I said, what is all this about? Why are we talking about going up to space? And then
something about Katy Perry.
Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos' fiance, and also a real life proper
astronaut. And oh my gosh, I think there's another woman as well, all went up into space. And I think
they were like, they went up all the way, you know, well, actually into space.
Katie Perry went up into space?
Yeah, I think it was for all of about 11 minutes. She went up, she was carrying a daisy, because
I think her daughter's called Daisy and she wanted, I don't know why she was for love
or whatever she was saying. Went up into space and then came back down still holding her daisy. I think she spent most of, I've not seen a lot of it, it was only 11 minutes
to watch isn't there? But I think she spent most of being up in space looking down the
camera lens. She sang some of her lyrics, told us what her playlist was going to be
for her next tour or album or something.
Guys, quite a big publicity stunt isn't it?
I know, can you imagine? But yeah, so yeah, they've gone up and done that.
Oh, so that's why this has come about.
I think you girls would be far more interesting
than watching this lot go up for 11 minutes.
I'm not sure I want to go to space at the moment.
I wouldn't want to go to space at all.
Really wouldn't.
I'm not sure it's my bag.
If Greg James built his own rocket
and said, I'll pay for you girls
to go up into space for 11 minutes. What would you say?
I'd say, Jay, I'm not being rude. I don't know, Greg, if you are an astrophysicist and
I'm not sure if your rocket's going to be safe enough, mate. That's what I'd say. I'd
say thank you for the offer, but I'm out.
Yeah. God, I wouldn't. Has it got to that now where it's just like a little trip up
there?
Well, that's where it's going, isn't it?
Many millions, that must have cost.
Yeah, I mean, it's such a huge amount of money that could be spent in a lot of other ways,
better ways.
Weird, weird.
Be on the telly soon, won't it?
What?
You know, celebrity astronaut.
My God, do you think that will ever happen?
Yeah, absolutely it will.
Training up a load of celebrities.
To go into space.
And did you see what they were all about?
They're all in like skin tight, all of the women now, right?
And I think they're classing themselves now as astronauts.
They're all in skin tight cat suits.
What color?
Like a navy blue, navy blue skin tight cat suits.
I've never seen an astronaut going up
there, you know, with a skin tight astronaut outfit on. And before they went up, I saw
a bit where they're all talking to the rocket. Just, you know, just being like, please look
after us. We believe in you.
Oh, don't I feel sick. I really, really do.
And Alison Hammond.
I'd love to have a and Alison Hammond and Gemma Collins talking to a rocket.
No, I'd love to have a trip with Alison Hammond anywhere.
Yeah, that would be fun.
But I'm not sure The Rocket would be the one.
No.
Before we talk about telly, we've had loads and loads of voice notes.
So shall we hear one of them?
Come on, let's listen to some.
Okay.
Hi Nat and Jo, this is Deanna from Thorough.
I love your pod.
It's the only one I regularly listen to.
Nat, I love your new show.
It's just for me.
Love shopping channels, love buying gadgets.
Just want to say we've had packing cubes for a few years.
Absolutely love them.
We go away quite a few weekends, visiting our son in uni.
They're great for just unloading them when you get there, take them off, put them all on the shelf or in a drawer.
And then when you've been using your clothes,
you just use whichever one has become free
as your dirty washing bag.
It's amazing.
And by the way, I started folding pants and socks the way the folding
lady told you how to.
Oh, thank you, Deanna. That's lovely. I'm pleased. Yeah, lots of positive comments around
the show. People enjoying it.
Would you say, are you folding Mark's pants like that?
No, on the show, I did actually say, I'll go home and fold Mark's pants like that. And
I've had a lot of people say, did you go home and fold Mark's pants and socks like that?
No, I didn't.
Yeah.
Who's got time?
I haven't.
When I'm getting this stuff,
I'll get it out of the wash basket.
You know, one of the clean stuff that I bought up.
I just opened James's drawer and I just didn't fold them.
I just chuck them in.
I just think I can't be bothered.
I just chuck them in now.
He's lucky if I turn them the right way round.
Yes.
Because sometimes I chuck them in and they're inside out. They're all clean, but they're
inside out. So a good thing is if I do go like that, put them the right way and then
they get checked in.
Yeah, I do that. I make sure they're the right way round and then I do fold them.
Yes.
And I put all the socks together.
I do the socks together. Yeah.
Yeah. But the folding is incredible. I mean in a house, honestly, the space saving.
Thank you, Deanna, for that voice note.
Very, very good.
Very good.
Should we have another one?
Very good, yeah, let's have another.
Good evening, ladies.
It's Claire from Swanly here.
I'm just going into work.
It's Saturday night.
And I've listened to your podcast on my way in,
the little bonus episode on plot twists.
And can I just say I think
you might have split the nation because I don't think people want Ted to be H if
it comes back for a second series it would break my heart it would absolutely
break my heart because he's always like so down the line and all of his little
phrases I can't believe that you said that. And I'm
going to quote you, Jo, with my little impression of Jo. Do we really want Ted to be age? Really?
Really? I don't think we do.
I would love it if Ted turned around and he was age. I'd love it.
I'm with Claire. It would break my heart.
Oh, it would be, it would break mine. It would be awful, but my God, I'd love it.
You'd just have no trust in anyone again, would you?
No, you wouldn't. You really wouldn't. I still, I've said about it before,
but I'll never forget that bit when they were in the glass box and one of them was being
interviewed and then he went like that and he got his phone and he sent the text message.
It all kicked off. And then the two guards who were there turned around and oh my God,
it was so damn good.
Yeah. Oh, it's going to be great if that comes back.
I can't wait.
Honestly, it'll be brilliant.
Yeah.
Brilliant.
Yeah. Have we got another one? Another voice note?
I think we have.
Oh, God.
Hi, Nat and Jo. This is Natalie in Essex. I just wanted to send you a message to say
regarding your thing you were talking about, Get Back
by the Beatles. Weirdly enough, I bumped into Jamie Borthwick at a Beatles tribute at my
local theatre last weekend. He was there with his family. I did embarrassingly say hello,
but I just wanted to say that if you want to see as close as you're ever going to get to the real Beatles, go and see the
Bootleg Beatles at a local theatre. They are amazing. I actually love the podcast, been
listening for months and months and months. You're fantastic. Keep going.
Oh, huge fan. See, now you know I'm not lying.
Have you watched any more of it? Have you
managed to? I've watched some, but I find that every time someone comes over, yeah,
and I'm really telling them to watch it, I go back to part one. So then I'm watching
it with the person. So my niece came over, I was like, you've got to watch it. You've
got to watch. So I've watched part one. Yes. Nearly three times. Oh my God. I'm like that with Married at First Sight Australia.
Oh, right.
Kind of a different vibe.
Yeah.
So I've watched about four episodes,
the first four episodes of it.
Then my mum said to me,
well, you know, can I watch it?
I want to watch it with you.
So we started again.
Yeah.
And we watched them at the first two.
Then Eva walked into the room
and went, I can't believe you're watching this without me.
So we now have to sit down and we've now got to watch it with Eva. So I will have seen
it three times.
Brilliant. That is lovely isn't it when you love something and then you're introducing
people. I will get to the end but there's no rush.
There isn't.
There's no rush. It's just perfect television. It's all good. All good. I think we've got
one more before we get onto our telly.
Come on then. Hi Jo and Nat, it's Lorna from Bristol. I've just been listening to last week's pod where you were
talking about Ted Lasso. I was the same with it. My other half put it on, he'd had it recommended
to him and I didn't think I'd get into it in the first episode. I wasn't too sure, but now I love
it. We've watched it all the way through at least twice. And I
know we've brought it up a few times. I'm Christmas mad and I will watch Christmas specials
or Christmas movies all throughout the year if I'm feeling low or just a bit nostalgic.
I just love it. When you get to it, the Ted Lasso Christmas special is one of my go-tos
now. It is so nice and so feel good that I've watched that a good
few times when I've needed a bit of a boost. So keep going with it and at least watch that
if you don't persevere with it because it is such a lovely episode.
Oh, that's really good. I will absolutely make a note of that. Something to watch come
November the 1st.
Yes. Have you seen as well, I saw in the paper that Nick Muhammad, who plays Nathan, it
looks like he might be going into the traitors, the celeb traitors.
He'd be great.
He'd be good, wouldn't he? And then I carried on reading a bit.
Stephen Fry.
Yes.
Sandy Toxvick, I've seen.
Oh, Sandy Toxvick would be good, wouldn't she?
Amazing.
Tom Daley, I've heard. Claire Balding, I've heard. Oh, there's? Amazing. Tom Daley, I've heard. Yep. Claire Boulding,
I've heard. Oh, there's some. Kate Garroway, I've heard. Well, I will absolutely watch
the Christmas special. I'm looking forward to that. I will make a note. Yeah. Thank you
for those. They were brilliant, weren't they? I thought we'd be excited about Christmas.
Do you know what I did think yesterday? I thought, my God, the year's going so fast.
We are going to be at Christmas in no time. I know. And we genuinely are.
I know.
Let's have a bit of sunshine first.
Let's get somewhere out of those sandals.
Now we've had a cracking week of telly this week.
We've been watching one of your all time favourite shows ever, haven't we, called Boddies?
Boddies, love it.
And that's on Army Player.
We've got a new comedy recommended by our listeners, which is called Austin on the BBC. Always nice to have a recommendation. Love it.
I love it. And the new series of Celebrity Big Brother is on ITV every single night.
With your brilliant, fantastic, gorgeous pal Patsy Palmer. Yeah, I'm obsessed.
Oh my god. What are we going to start with? I think we should start with Big Brother.
Right, okay. Right, let's start. I want to know everything that you think. What does it feel,
because I've never watched it and had a close friend ever be there. What is that like? What do
you think about everything that's going on? What do you think about Mickey Rourke? What do you think
about Patsy? Oh my god, Jojo and Chris, tell me everything. Well, I'm really, really enjoying it.
Patsy being there, I just have to tune in,
just have to see how she's doing.
It's really quite a tough watch
if I feel she's upsetting anyway,
because you just want to call your friend
or give her a cuddle, you know what I mean?
But I think she's being so real.
She's very, just Patsy, she's doing her meditations. She's chatting very openly and honestly about
how she feels. Some people have really taken that, especially Jojo to heart. Yeah. And
so she's very downbeat. But when I'm watching the show, I don't think Patsy is downbeat.
Yeah. I think she's just taking it easy being herself. She's not a mate. You know, she's
just very at one with herself.
Well, yeah, when I met her, she's so centered. She's grounded, she's centered, she's chilled,
she's calm. She's lovely to be around. But maybe she isn't the best housemate for
someone who sort of really wants loads of fun and it is a social experiment in there.
And it is fascinating. Oh my god, what do you think about the whole Mickey Rourke and all of that stuff?
To be quite honest with you, I don't even want to talk about him, he's gone. It was
a strange old time.
I thought it was awful when he made her cry and he said that she couldn't flip and cuck.
Yeah, and there was a lot more after that happened, which was very inappropriate in
my eyes. So I'm pleased he's out. Michael, fabricant, he's been evicted,
but he did come back for the Easter special dressed as an Easter bunny to hide the eggs,
which I really quite liked. And Donna called it. Donna actually said, oh, maybe Michael will come
back dressed as an Easter bunny. And I thought you could, you got to produce his head on. It was
brilliant. Eliza Turnspin, she was like, she didn't just say that. I said, I said she did. Donna, Donna Preston, Patsy's
my dear, dear friend, so I'm loving it. Donna is TV gold.
Is she? Because I haven't watched it right as much as I've watched other ones just because
of the four kids and that I haven't...
And watching maths.
Yeah.
Continuously on repeat. just because of the four kids and that I have. I'm watching maths. Yeah, I'm watching.
Continuously on repeat.
Yeah, continuously watching the same episodes of maths.
So, and then when I did tune in,
it was the whole one where they're all dressed up
as cats and stuff.
Oh, that was hilarious.
I was just a bit like, oh God,
because I love it when it is a social experiment.
And then I felt a bit like,
because I missed the Mickey stuff in the beginning.
So I've just been dipping in and out.
I do think it's great to watch, if you're going to get into it, get into it.
I thought Donna was funny when they had to do the open, oh my God, eliminations and stuff.
And when she said about Angelica, I love you, but the clapping is just too much.
It was brilliant. She said red mist, didn't she? But she's so dry. And then Big Brother
told her off. I mean, a lot of us were talking about it last night because you were like, you do realize this is serious. So it's like, well, Donna isn't
a serious person. She's just giving her.
And you have to give, you know, why you want to put them up. It's your choice.
A sure choice is what it is.
As long as you've got a reason, that's your choice. And nobody can tell you what your
choice is.
I thought about what I would have said last night. And I think I would have said, I'm
just going to put my egg in Danny
and Jojo's basket because the bandanas are not for me. Yes. Yeah. I think it's good to have an
element of comedy and just to do it about a gripe and not get personal. Yes. And that's what Donna's
doing. And she hasn't been nominated. She's going around the house. She's really, really funny. Yeah, I think she's great. Jack's really, really
warm to Jack. Yes. When he first went in, I did think, oh, what? I don't know. Yeah,
I just don't know what character you are. Yeah. But he's warmed up and I think he's
really nice. And I think again, he's very black and white, very clear
cut and he says it how it is. If you don't like him, he doesn't care.
Yeah, that's nice.
It is nice and I think he knows himself and I don't think he's trying to be friends with
anyone. I think he just is who he is. I think I'd get on with him.
Yes, I like him. I worked with him recently on something.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, and got chatting to him and at first I was a bit like, oh god, I don't know if
he likes me or not or whatever.
But then he's really nice.
He's really nice to talk to, isn't he?
He's lovely.
He reminds me a bit of me when I was in the house.
Because I was fun and what have you, but I was just myself and I feel like he's absolutely
himself.
Pat's is herself.
Chris, I don't know much of.
What do you make of the hell Chris and Jane said then?
Well, Chris actually works with Mark
in ITV racing, because he does a lot of the horse racing stuff. And I said, Oh, what's
he like? And Mark said, yeah, pleasant chap, you know, when he's at work with him or whatever.
But the Chris and Jojo relationship, I think if you form a bond in the house, it does mean
everything. Yeah. It's like the most important thing to you
because your days are really long and it's all you've got. So I think people being quite
unkind about their relationship or saying, oh, they're really getting on my nerves. Chris
was really down and he had a cry, it really affected him. He was really crying and he
had about 65 minutes in Big Brother room. And he obviously feels, because everyone keeps having a go
at him for being with Jojo and having fun, he now feels bad for doing that. But he wants
to be himself.
But my God, if you meet with someone and you bond with them and they make you laugh and
you are having fun, and it's such a weird environment.
It is a really, really weird environment.
That you will connect with people so much faster than you normally would on the outside.
Although I'll tell you something, if I was Jojo's girlfriend, I think I might be a bit
jealous.
Yeah, because they've been in bed and massaging and wouldn't, you know, haven't they?
A very touchy feely. I mean, it's fine. I don't know. Maybe that's fine.
I thought that Chris was hilarious when I saw him in Love Island. I loved him in that
and I thought he was really funny.
Yeah, see, I didn't see that.
I thought he was really funny.
But he has been in reality shows before.
So do you think he knows how to play it?
I don't know. I don't...
When people talk about gameplay, I find it quite weird.
I think it's impossible to have a gameplay.
I think, right, for starters, I think it's impossible because when you go in there, probably in the first bit,
you know, you are gonna be like,
Jesus, all these cameras are,
and you're gonna be aware of the cameras.
But if you've been in there, you know,
for a good few days, oh my God,
there's gotta be a point where you do,
you can't keep it up all the time.
And secondly, when people ever go at other people
and go, oh, they're playing a game or they go,
I'd be like, well, yeah, I am,
because it is a game. The game is that I'm either here because I want to have a laugh
and I just want to have fun or I want to win or I want to see how far I can go.
But it's a bit like the traitors, wasn't it? Watching that and people are like, they've
got a game. It's like, yeah, it is a game.
Because it is a game. It's not real life. It is a game. That is why I'm here. And also,
so what that, you know, if you do go in and you've got a game plan, well
why can't somebody go in with a game plan just because somebody else hasn't?
Yeah, no, I completely agree.
How would you feel about nominating people to their face?
Fine.
I'd be alright with that as well. I think I'd just be quite honest and say-
Patsy was really good. She received a lot of nominations as well, but she was very calm,
but I know her very well so I can read her like a book. I know exactly, but she was very calm. But I know her very well, so I can read
her like a book. I know exactly what she was thinking. Her little smile. And she did a,
to Angelica, she did a, Namaste.
Oh God, I'm going to hate, I think I'm going to have to start watching more of this than I can.
Please, can we, for the next ep, or you know, couples talk, you know, whenever,
Britt send some voice notes in about your
favourite Big Brother moments. Maybe we can pick it apart a bit once it finishes. Favourite characters,
what you thought of people because I do just think it's so interesting. Oh my god I've always
been a fan of Big Brother because I do love it as a social experiment particularly the ones you
know like in the early years when it was just normal people. Yeah.
And even when the celebs go in and they're like celebs in the beginning.
I did think it was a real...
And then you just see them just normal by the end.
Yeah. I did think it was a real kind of homage to George Galloway's cat.
Oh my God, yes.
When they dressed up as cats, it really made me laugh.
I thought they'd been quite clever.
Can you believe that moment with George Galloway?
It's a great moment.
And Rulowenska? I I mean there have been some just amazing
moments. I just can't believe that you've been in the house. I mean I just think, do
you get claustrophobic in there?
No, no it's a really big house and you've got the outdoor area but I never sort of felt
like I wanted to get out. I never felt that really.
Did you ever panic thinking oh my god I'm being watched or did you change the way that
you were about stuff?
Because you were like, oh God, I'm going to be judged about this or did you just get on
with it?
No, I just got on with it.
I remember having some quite personal conversations with Denise because I got on with her so well
and we just clicked, me and Denise Welch.
We could go up in a rocket together actually.
You too.
Because we were our mates.
Yeah.
And I saw her last week on Loose Women actually.
It's lovely to see her.
But because I clicked with that, I did want to really go into certain things and I thought,
oh, are they going to, you know, what I've said there is quite personal to me or quite private,
but they are very good. I don't think they, they do know what to put out and what not to put out.
When you came out, did you go back and rewatch all of it?
No, didn't watch a thing.
Or did you just go ask stuff at it?
I didn't watch a thing.
Yeah, I think that's the best way to be, isn't it?
Yeah, just going to do it.
Oh my god, I couldn't believe, it's AJ, isn't it?
Yes.
Her legs!
The shorts!
Yes!
With the heels.
Wow!
The leather gloves.
Wow!
She is a style icon.
Unbelievable, she's just incredible.
Amazing. I was watching
it with my mum and we couldn't actually hear anything because I just kept going, mum, look
at her legs. Incredible. Look at her legs. She's amazing. She wears the cat suits as
well. She wears the astronaut type fitted cat suits. She'd be good in one of those.
Amazing. Amazing. She would be incredible. She is lovely. I did the last leg with her. Did you?
Yeah, and she was fab. Really good fun.
What a lovely lady. She's a great presenter actually.
She's good, isn't she? Really good.
I think she'll, we'll see her a lot more.
I think she'll go far.
Well, it's a revelation actually
to hear you like so into Big Brother.
Yeah.
Because you're really, I'm going to start watching, because if you're enjoying it, it's going to be good.
Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I just love watching Patsy.
From what I can see, she'd be very happy to come out. Yes. I think she really misses her
kids. Well, she always does. But listen, we all do these things. It's a good thing. If
you're not watching, start watching. It's fine. If you're getting into it now, you've
just got to get to know the people that are left. Doesn't matter. The last week, they're all gone.
Yeah, they're all gone.
So is it relevant?
Well, yeah, it's new. I mean, it just keeps starting new, doesn't it?
Yeah, just start it up.
Keep watching.
It's good fun.
And let us know what you think, listeners.
Oh, I can't wait to watch tonight.
Oh my God. I love it when you've got something good and you're like,
oh God, it's coming on tonight.
Yeah, me and Eliza are like, should we watch it on ITVX? Because it's 20 past nine? Should we catch the last 40 minutes or should we put something else on?
Yes. It's great and it's lovely to be involved with Eliza watching it. Yes. Which is lovely.
Yeah, it's nice, yeah.
Oh my god, right, so this week as well, I'm quite scared about this because I recommended
hugely, I don't like the face that you're pulling. I recommend, I can't believe right that I'm quite scared about this because I recommended hugely. I don't like the face that
you're pulling. I recommend, I can't believe right that I'm starting to think that you didn't
enjoy it and I can't believe this right. Bodies is one of my all-time favorite shows. You can catch it
on BBC iPlayer. It's incredible. It's got Max Beasley, Patrick Baladie. It's all set in this
hospital on like the Gynaecology ward. I have re-watched it over and over and over. It's all set in this hospital on like the gynaecology ward. I have rewatched it over and over and over. It's Jed McCurio
I absolutely love it. I do not like the face the way that your face is looking because you've never seen it
And I made you watch it. What did you think?
In the first episode yes, there was so much blood
Yes, a lot of mistakes were being made. I thought the acting was absolutely superb. Max Beasley is amazing, isn't he?
Oh my God, he's in Corsair's readabout.
It's really, really good.
So, so good.
All the staff are great. Yeah, I loved it. I loved seeing Patrick Baladie. I only remember him in The Office, so that made me giggle.
Yeah.
Because I sort of see him as that character. Isn't it ridiculous? He's only been in, you
know, he's been in 100 Things, but you just remember someone from something.
Yeah, remember him, yeah.
So I had to sort of shake that off. And then I thought he's great. Really, really good.
Bit of a dodgy character. I really, really liked everybody. It's just not my bag.
In what way?
It's just medical. There's just loads of blood. I don't like watching operations. It's just,
I can't help it, Jo.
But what about all of the rest of the drama? So when the rest of the drama kicks in, but
mind you, I've seen like just like all of it.
When they started shagging, by the way.
Yeah, well that is quite full on.
And you see the ring.
I can't remember the ring.
She's got a ring on? Has she?
I can't remember which one now.
But where did that come from? I was like have I skipped?
Oh I can't remember.
Well it just happens.
She's with someone.
But in the thing, she just goes in there. What's her name?
Niamh McIntosh. She's the staff nurse in that.
Donna.
I think she's brilliant, Donna.
She's brilliant.
Yeah.
Suddenly they work, work, work, work, work,
known each other for five minutes and suddenly they're in a room.
I know, but it's like I think it's all the drama and everything they go through.
I think it was the release because of the death.
Yes.
Yeah, I understand.
I'm sure I can imagine the storylines.
Oh my God, it's so good.
The twists and turns. I can imagine the storylines. Oh my god. The twists and turns. I
can imagine being fantastic, but I just don't know if I can do it because it stresses me out. Oh my
god. It is stressful. It's very stressful. I think I was pregnant whilst watching it one time and I
thought to myself, oh my god, I can't watch it whilst being pregnant because that is just going
to frighten me. Because it is, it is quite bloody. There are things, it's all about how something has gone wrong in like the very first episode,
isn't it, with a woman.
I know, but you've got the woman, you've got the older lady where the guy's operated
on her and he shouldn't have really. He did it, but it looks like he's to blame and it's
sort of covering up with the patients. I don't know. I just, I think it's really clever and obviously quite brutal and honest, like The Line of Duty is.
Don't get me wrong, because it's Jed's writing. But I just, I have to be honest, the more I watch,
we've had a lot of stuff to watch that is gory or fast paced. I just think I'm really boring.
You're not really boring.
No, I am. I just want to'm really boring. You're not really boring.
No I am. I just want to watch Grand Designs and Gardeners World. It just stresses me out
and I know that's not what you want to hear.
No but you're not really boring. You're not boring just because you like and enjoy, you
know, different things. This is just a series that I absolutely loved but it is, it is really
quite brutal and there is like a lot of black, because there are operations and things go
wrong and then yeah. I don't feel like it's unnecessary's unnecessary. I wouldn't say any of it is unnecessary. You
don't go oh here we go again because they're at work so you're watching what they're doing
which is brilliant and I did think it was really fast paced and everything I just think the genre
is for me. Yeah well that's fine. But if you love medical stuff it's brilliant. You've got to watch
it. Yeah if you love medical stuff and you do because there are operations and it is quite brutal
and I mean my god and that you know it's and there are mistakes that are being made and that's what
happens in the first step and that's what you know continues all the way throughout it. I think the
acting is fantastic. I just love the story and it is just one of those shows that I go back to over
and over and over. I was talking about it with my parents over Easter and they actually said, oh, I tell
you what, when we go back home, I think we're going to rewatch Bodies again. So I basically
force everyone I meet to watch Bodies.
Yeah, but I love that.
I just love it.
I love that. No, it's brilliant. If you like that sort of thing, it's a really top-notch,
first-class medical drama. You can tell that from the
beginning, from the get go. So no, thank you. I'll see how I feel. Maybe I'll be braver.
We'll see. Right. Well, that's cool. Because yeah, that's cool. I'm not forcing you to watch it.
Thank you. You don't have to. But I am just pleased. I made you watch a bit of it.
No, that's good. That's good. You can catch both series of bodies on BBC iPlayer.
We had a recommendation actually from a listener about Austin,
which you can catch on BBC iPlayer.
The show is all about...
Austin, with the name of the show, and Ben Miller, in fact before going into it, did
you know that Michael Theo, who plays Austin, was on the dating show Love on the Spectrum
for Netflix?
No, I didn't. Oh my god, that's amazing.
Read about it, he was on it, became really super popular and I think that's how he's
got into his acting role.
Oh my God, that's amazing.
It's good, isn't it?
Yeah, that's brilliant.
Well, I think he comes across so lovely in this.
I mean, I'm really enjoying watching Australian things.
I mean, after watching Colin from Accounts.
Love it.
And I was like, oh my God, this is so interesting how we've got this Australian and then British merging.
You've got the amazing Sally Phillips and then Ben Miller.
Oh, she's always good, isn't she? And everything.
She's brilliant.
And I love Austin and the dad, Julian.
Yes.
Once they meet and their relationship that they're forming is good.
And Austin genuinely, so like Austin is from Australia and he thinks and he's found out
that, you know, he thinks that Ben Miller is his dad.
So it's from years ago, you know, Ben Miller had a bit of a fling with his mother.
And he's like, will you take a DNA test?
I think that you are my dad.
And what I loved was that it's all really quite fast paced.
And there's no time to say there was no time that I was bored.
It's very fast paced.
So Austin is on his way to go meet Ben Miller at a book signing because he's a writer. But in the
meantime, Ben Miller's character likes a tweet about free speech, which has actually been made
by a neo-Nazi. He doesn't know that. So he's in the process of actually being cancelled.
And he's got his book signing thing for this bear that his wife illustrates.
That's right.
And he writes about-
And it's obviously been going for a very long time. I like the fact that you've got the
worker, you know, 20 somethings, taking all the books, putting them into the boxes, getting
rid of the bear and saying to him, I'm really sorry because I grew up with this. So it's
obviously a bit, you know, their lifetime achievement of these famous books, almost
like a Paddington, you know what I mean? Like a huge thing.
Yeah, and they've done that together. Yeah.
And they're at this book signing.
So you've got all of the cancellation and then the comedy with like Sally Phillips and
Ben Miller and you know, they're so amazing, those two.
I laughed out loud a couple of times, which is rare.
Yeah.
Genuinely, I think for anyone, if you watch a box now, to actually laugh out loud, does
it happen that often?
Yeah.
And then amongst all of that, you've got Austin then coming in going, actually,
hi, nice to meet you. I think that you're my dad. Will you do a DNA test? And there's
so much going on that I didn't expect or anything.
And I really, I thought it was quite bittersweet and I really enjoyed it when Ingrid, Sally
Phillips' character, so the wife of Julian, was so hurt when she did the maths.
Yes. Because you've got all that
underlying.
Yes, well she's now walked out and gone basically you're on your own, I'm going to go and find
some other writers to illustrate because turns out that was going on two months into our
relationship.
Which is quite hurtful.
But also I thought oh god two months because I was thinking oh my god imagine all of these
years later then. So he's about 29, isn't he? He's about, Austin's about 29, I think. So 29 years have
gone by and she's now found out that he obviously had a bit of a fling two months into their going
out with each other. And so she's gone, I'm sorry, I've just found out you've like had an affair or
you've had a fling or whatever. I'm I'm going off for a bit I don't think
I don't know if she leaves him or if she's going I just need some space to think about
it how would you feel because I was like well it's only two months into it.
It's two months into it.
Because that's still early days.
Yeah early days.
It would piss me off.
It would really hurt.
Yeah.
But after 29 years of being with someone.
I think I'd go oh fuck it.
Yeah fuck it don't worry.
Yeah Ben Miller because Ben Miller walks out on us and says look mate I don't years of being with someone. I think I'd go off. Fuck it. Yeah. Fuck it. Don't worry.
Ben Miller, because Ben Miller walks out on Austin and says, look mate, I don't want to deal with this.
That's Julian.
He's like, I don't want to deal with this. And he walks out. But he is then being advised by his publisher.
Oh, I know. It'll be really good. It's a great PR stunt.
Yeah, it'll be really good if you have this whole, you know, does he think that you're your son and so he ends up phoning Austin and saying, I would
like to meet up with you. I'll do the DNA test. Let's meet up together because his publisher
has told him that that would be a good thing because Austin is autistic.
Well, it's really quite sad, isn't it? That that's the way it starts. But we're obviously
going to see it play out. Yeah. Get to know their relationship. Austin is fully into I would like to meet you because you are my dad.
Absolutely, yeah.
So there's a lot of layers there which have been set for the first episode which is really
interesting which makes me go oh my god I want to see where this goes.
Yeah, no, brilliant and I highly recommend it, it was funny.
I did enjoy it.
We've had some major recommendations on that.
People say that it's brilliant.
Yeah, no, and thank you for that because we watched. And you can watch it all on BBC iPlayer.
So before we go, we have got another recommendation from a listener. Let's hear it.
Hi ladies, it's Ali here from Aberdeen. I absolutely love the pod and listen to it every
week. Look forward to the new episodes. I've watched lots of TV with your
recommendations which has been great and I've been meaning to send a voice note in for a
little while now. The show that I absolutely adore and has left quite an impact is Firefly
Lane on Netflix. It's an adaptation from a novel, stars Katherine Heigl who was in the early
days of Grey's Anatomy and it focuses on the friendship of two women over about 30 years,
the ups, the downs, all the things they go through and you see them at different points in their
lives. There's just two seasons. The first
season was incredible and I couldn't wait for the second one to come out. And boy, did
that hit hard. Anyone who knows the value of friendship and women friends, yeah, it's
a lot.
I've seen that come up on my Netflix.
Have you?
Yeah.
And I've always not gone for it because I just assumed that Firefly Lane was sort of
some, you know, like sweet American-y type.
I just thought, oh, I just don't fancy it, but I might give it a go now.
I think we should.
That sounds good.
Yeah.
About a friendship, women.
Yeah.
I think we'd be up our strata.
And I like Katherine Heigl.
I used to like her in Grey's Anatomy. I think she's brilliant. Well, there you go. Should we have a go, women. I think we'd be a pastraza. And I like Katherine Heigl. I used to like her in Grey's Anatomy. I think she's brilliant.
Well, there you go. Should we have a go?
Yeah, let's try it.
I think so. Thank you. Brilliant. And your recommendations, honestly,
they're not just great for us, but for all the listeners at home as well. So keep sending them
in. We might not get around to looking at everything, but people at home will. So it's
very important. God, my mum has been going on so much about
all of the things that we've been watching in the recommendations. My mother is like
a really big fan and actually takes on board our advice. Oh, that's good. That's lovely.
Yeah, because we are only having a chat. We're not critics, are we? Well, no, we're not.
You know, we're just talking. Just having a nag. Oh, we've also got our bonus episode
all about your favourite when things go wrong. I'm going to love this. I know. I can't wait for this.
Our TV blooper moments on Friday. So do look out for that one because we are really looking
forward to that one. I genuinely can't. It's one of my favourite things to watch the bloopers.
Oh my, yes, yeah. Well, I was going to say something then about a blooper,
but we'll save it for Friday. Let's save it for Friday and keep sending us the voice notes about telly and the pod.
The number is 033 06 784 704.
Oh, it's been great.
Can you believe I've got through this and I'm still in shirt, jumper, tweed jacket
and you're still in t-shirt.
You're not even sweating.
I'm not even sweating and I'm wearing trainers.
It's unbelievable. I might not even sweating. I'm not even sweating and I'm wearing trainers. It's unbelievable.
I might not even be in next week, I might be sick.
Because something seriously weird's going on.
I'll see you soon.
Bye!

They were both very mature as filmmakers.
This was a film that spoke to a red state, blue state divide.
I'm Mark Kermode.
And I'm Eleni Jones and we'll direct you through the intertwined worlds of film, television
and streaming.
In the new series, we'll look at Studio Ghibli and summer blockbusters and start with cinema's fascination with doppelgangers.
Helped by the one and only Richard Ayoade.
I'd quite like to meet more Norwegian Nigerians.
In fact, if there's a meeting, I'll happily attend.
