BBC Sounds, music, radio, podcasts.
Hello and welcome to Off The Telly from BBC Sounds.
I'm Natalie Cassidy.
And I'm Joanna Page.
And this is the podcast where we have a good old natter
about all the telly we've been watching this week.
Do you want to do the swearing and spoilers in a really solid way?
We might say shit and we might ruin your programmes.
So tell me, did you watch any of the election? I did actually. I watched it sort of, I'd been
working and then it was in the evening and everything that I started watching stuff coming
in. And there was a time because I was in the evening and everything that um I started watching stuff coming in and there was a time because I was full-on working and everything
that I completely and utterly forgot it was happening and then oh no it wasn't we were on
sports day actually so I was full-on with that and I didn't even couldn't even remember it was
happening and there was only when all of that finished that I just suddenly thought oh my gosh
this is going on I can't believe it and then as soon as sports day was over we went to the park
and then um I'd taken our passports and our voting things with us.
I'd carry them around in my bag all day.
Then I started panicking that a squirrel or something would go in my handbag and end up stealing the passports.
But we were all fine.
And then at the end of the day, we got to the polling station and voted.
Fantastic. Fantastic.
Well, I stayed up.
I love election night.
So I'm a really big, I love sitting in front of the telly, watching it all happen. I love the graphs. I'm a bit of a geek watching it. But I mean, we knew the result. We knew what it was going to be. quite strange because we've, you know, had Conservatives for such a long time.
I know, I know.
And I kind of knew what the result was going to be.
Yeah.
But didn't you find it weird waking up the next morning and just going,
oh my gosh, you know, they've actually won.
We actually do have a complete and utter different change of government.
Yeah, they've got a lot of work to do and they've been left in a little bit of a awkward position. So let's get started and let's see what happens.
But I loved watching election night and uh yeah fantastic now after the election night we had the football how exciting are they
doing it on purpose because i feel like i'm gonna have a heart attack i don't think i can take it
anymore i mean well it was just it's just just nerve-wracking nerve-wracking, isn't it? Nerve-wracking.
And also, do you reckon they go, right, listen,
could you just stretch it out a bit?
Can we... I know that's an illegal thing to say,
but can we stretch it out because the pubs are full up
and everyone's having a beer?
Can we do extra time?
Can we stretch it out and make sure the England games
get to extra time and penalties?
And, you know, to the very last minute, everyone's in the pub.
Oh, my God.
But weren't those penalties smooth?
Oh, they were brilliant.
Because do you remember whenever we used to get to penalties before
and it was always like, oh...
At the end of the match, we were all cheering
and I was kind of like, it never happens like this.
It never works out for us like this, does it?
It was really...
Something always happens.
They were as cool as cucumbers.
Oh, they were smooth.
Bellingham's one.
If I was going to do a penalty right,
I think I'd like to do one like Bellingham.
You know, when he just sort of...
He sort of pretended to do a run
and then he slowed it
and then he did a gentle just a poof.
And then just a tap in.
It was like, ooh.
Yeah.
It was smooth, wasn't it?
It was smooth.
Now, that's how I'd like to do one.
In real life,
I probably would be absolutely terrified
and then I'd sort of do a... How they do it with their feet and then I'd just go poof and I'd just slam it because I'd like to do one. In real life, I probably would be absolutely terrified.
And then I'd sort of do it how they do it with their feet.
And then I just go and I just slam it because I just be like, just get it over and done with.
But I'd like to be able to just knock it in slowly. Yeah, I'd like to walk up to it and just really smoothly give it a good wallop.
Not so much a tap, but a wallop.
Right up in the top left hand corner.
But I'm sure I would try and hit the ball and miss it.
Oh God, I know. Well, what about was it I'm sure I would try and hit the ball and miss it. Oh, God.
I know.
Well, what about, was it Tony?
And he doesn't even look at the ball.
Tony.
And he was just looking straight ahead.
And he was looking at the goalkeeper.
And he didn't even look at the flipping ball.
And Saka did so well.
Oh, my God.
And when he was interviewed afterwards, he's so sweet.
Fantastic.
But that is, we need that.
It's so good for us.
It's been such a good week.
Everyone's in good spirits.
Yes.
It's exciting, isn't it?
So exciting.
Really exciting.
Before we get into this week's telly,
shall we find out what our listeners have been saying?
Yeah, let's do it.
We've got this message from Lisa from Australia.
Wow. Hi Joanne,
it's Lisa calling from the Gold Coast, Australia.
I grew up in England, love the podcast.
It connects me back to the UK
and I love the recommendations. Renegade
Nell, love that one. I'm just catching
up on some of your podcasts.
Jo, I had the same issue.
Madame Tussauds went for a visit
when I was a kid, got to the same issue. Madame Tussauds went for a visit when I was a kid,
got to the Doctor Who exhibition, shit myself.
It wasn't the Dalek.
It was that half Dalek, half person thing.
There was talk of going to the London Dungeon after that.
No chance, no chance.
So I'm feeling you there with the being scared of the Daleks.
Keep up the podcast.
Loving it.
Oh, thank you, Lisa, so much.
I love it when I hear that we bring a little bit of home back to people.
It's so, so special.
So thank you so much for listening.
That's amazing to see that she's listening in Australia.
It means so much to us to get your messages.
Thank you so, so much. And I am there with you big time on that flipping Dalek.
Terrified.
My dad used to take me to the London Dungeons all the time.
I've never been.
It's great.
Is it?
Yeah.
I'm going to take Eliza soon.
Because I used to love Madame Tussauds and then the Chamber of Horrors.
Do you think that that is suitable for my 11 year old?
Well, I'd have to take all of them.
You can't take them all.
I can't take a seven year old, can I?
But you should take the 11 year old to the London Dungeon.
We should do that.
We should do that. We should do that.
We're the oldest ones.
My God, they'd love it.
Right, should we get on?
Should we see what we're watching this week?
Yes.
So what shows are we talking about this week?
We are covering House of the Dragon on Sky Atlantic and Now,
The Repair Shop on BBC iPlayer,
and Being Karl Lagerfeld on Disney+.
Right, let's get on with it and let's talk telly.
So our first show is House of the Dragon.
So there's a brand new series of this that's just started
and it's set in the Game of Thrones world about 200 years
before the stuff that happens in the Game of Thrones.
Did you watch Game of Thrones?
No, never seen five minutes of it.
I was pregnant and I watched...
Don't tell me.
Were you in bed with the tray?
No.
Oh, okay.
I was pregnant and Game of Thrones was on
and I was like, I'm going to give this a go
because everyone's talking about it.
First episode, started watching, they were going around
and they had to kill
either all of the babies
or all of the first born babies.
I think I lasted about two minutes
and went, I'm sorry,
stuff this for a laugh.
I am not watching this.
So that has been my experience
of Game of Thrones.
Okay.
And then I had not seen,
and before I even begin
to go anywhere, right,
I already am very confused
because when I've been talking
to people about what I'm watching,
I have called it House of Games, House of Cards, House of Thrones.
The only thing I'm not calling it is House of the Bloody Dragon.
I've called it Dragon of the Thrones.
And I have also called it House of the Games.
Oh, my God!
We're both getting confused with Richard Osman's House of Games.
Well, I'll tell you something.
Give me 15 episodes of that on the trot, please,
rather than this load of rubbish.
I've got to say, right, and I'm putting it out there
and I probably will be blinking, stabbed in the heart for it,
but I was disgusted.
I'm going to go out quite strong with that, right.
I hadn't seen
any of it right so i know that they're on the second season now can i also just say yeah when
you're saying that yeah this is a show yeah and we have personal opinions yes so we are allowed
our personal opinion if you absolutely love this show good for you absolutely brilliant we're not
telling anyone what to think yeah this is our personal
opinion
yes
carry on please
thank you
um
I
so season two is out now
and I know that people
are loving it
and everyone's talking
about it
so I hadn't seen any of it
so I started with
episode one
season one
yeah
so um
I auditioned years ago
for the part that
Sian Brooke got
um who we've already
talked about a couple of weeks ago in blue light yes as the most amazing actress yes and um i
auditioned for her part she's married to paddy considine in it and i had to read the scene where
she's lying in the bath and it's really funny you know when you've read the scene and you've
auditioned and you've taped yourself and stuff and then you see the actress who's not really
i've never really had an audition i went into a show but yeah but you did taped yourself and stuff, and then you see the actress who's been cast. Not really, Jo. I've never really had an audition.
I went into a show.
But yeah, but you've been working.
Did one audition and that was it.
Well, look at you, you lucky cow.
I've had an audition shitload.
No, but I look at you.
Auditions for like 30 bloody years.
I know, but I look at you and go, how exciting.
I've only been in like the number one, bloody so,
playing the main part and I've become an icon.
No, but it's nice to do some different parts and do auditions.
It's not nice taping, it's shit.
But it's really interesting, you know, when you get like a scene in
and, you know, I remember taping and reading it
and just not being able to commit, not being very good
and obviously not getting the part.
And then watching Sian Brooke doing it and she's I
think in blue lights she's got the most gorgeous quality I agree she's just so she's kind of
motherly and natural and she's got this warmth to her isn't she I thought she was I thought she was
brilliant so I started watching well then the dragon started flying and I thought I'm sorry I
don't think I can commit to this like you as soon as soon as I see a dragon however, isn't it funny
that I lapped up Harry Potter.
Oh my god, that's so true. Oh my god!
There were dragons flying in there and I loved it.
I lapped it up but I don't know whether that was
because it's for the children
and I can kind of get into it.
But I love the potions. I can do witchy
spelly. I can do witches. Isn't it funny?
Yeah. The dragon started flying
but I still went with it, right?
And I liked the cast.
And I was like, okay, I like everybody in this.
I'm going to go with it.
And do you know what, right?
I was enjoying.
I was enjoying it.
I was liking the dynamics between all of them
when all of the men are sitting around.
I can feel a butt coming on.
And then I got to the bit where Sian Brooke is giving birth.
So she's heavily pregnant.
She's talking about
she wants to give birth
and he has already,
they've had a girl,
but he desperately needs
to have a boy.
Yeah.
So listeners,
if you haven't watched it,
then I just want to give you
a warning that
there is a very distressing
birth scene,
which I found
quite harrowing to watch.
I only watched the beginning
and then I really couldn't watch anymore.
So just to let you know that if you are watching Ep 1,
there's a very, very distressing birth scene.
She's in labour and he gets, you know,
to her room and where she is and she's screaming
and it's really bad.
And then the doctor comes up to him and says,
the baby is breech.
We can't, she's been trying for hours.
And I thought the way she played it, she was incredible.
I honestly think she's amazing.
She was incredible.
And she was just exhausted.
And just the softness about her, she was wonderful.
They pull up her nightgown.
And then she starts screaming.
So there's no epidural, is there, 200 years ago?
There is nothing, right?
And then they start cutting.
And it's not even, you know, like a cut that goes across.
It's like starting from up there and they cut her down.
Are you seeing all of this?
You see the entire thing, right?
Yeah, no, it's not for me, I'm afraid.
So they put the thing in, they start the cut and she is screaming.
And I went, fuck this for a laugh.
No, thank you very much.
And I turned it off and I've not watched any more.
Unless I'm seeing Jamie Oliver with a little bit of ribeye.
I can't do all that blood.
What the fuck has Jamie Oliver with ribeye got to do?
Because you're talking about gore and blood and meat.
And I understand it's for other people.
And I think the way it was shot, I think the acting,
I think all of that was brilliant.
Well, I'm so pleased that you've had your say on this.
Yeah.
Because I put it on for roughly eight minutes
and couldn't waste my life anymore.
How far did you get?
No, eight minutes.
What did you see?
I can't even tell you.
What was it that made you go...
No, just all of it.
Oh, here we are in this world of...
Genuinely, it might not have even been eight minutes.
Yeah.
And I know that is very close-minded, but I had a lot to do.
It was a bit like you last week with the piano.
Yeah.
You know where you just go just go actually i'm busy
i've got the kids and i can't actually waste my life watching this but at what point do you think
violence is too much because it's quite well known that i love watching documentaries about crime
and killers i love watching dramas yeah dark and murders and and this was too much for me. Because I think... It was too... I'll tell you why.
I think you like that when it's necessary, if you like,
to tell a story.
And I've heard that the second series, the first episode starts
with, like, a baby being beheaded.
And I'm kind of like, I can go there and I like stuff that's dark,
but I've got to be honest, I was like, that's not entertainment for me.
Do you know what it reminded me of?
What?
A computer game.
Oh, yes.
So for me, I go, I feel like I'm watching a computer game.
Yeah.
Because it's so out of the ordinary.
Yeah.
As I say, maybe that is me being a bit stupid.
The whole Game of Thrones, House of Games, Cards, Dragons,
I just don't think it's for me. because I think I just don't like the violence.
I think it's a huge amount of violence.
And interestingly, on that same subject, I love historical documentaries.
Yes, you do.
I really do.
I enjoy history.
So it's not that I just want everything modern and I don't want to go back
because it gives me the history of the Tower of London and whatever's going on and kings and queens and the Elizabethan you know
and Tudors and going back I love all of that or kind of American history I'm fine with all of that
but I think it's kind of the make-believe and I think along with the violence and along with
yeah yeah since having children as well, things hit closer to home.
Yes, they do, yeah.
There you go, everybody.
It wasn't our cup of tea, but if it was your cup of tea,
please let us know.
Send us your voice notes and your messages.
You can watch all of Series 1 on Now
and the new episodes of Series 2 are out on Mondays
on Sky Atlantic and Now.
So our next show is The Repair Shop.
Now, this is a complete and utter comfort watch
and also a bit of a tear-jerker show.
Yeah.
First of all, let's listen to what one of our listeners thinks about it.
Hi, Nat and Jo.
This is Diane from Milton Keynes.
My comfort watch on TV has got to be be the repair shop i absolutely love it it's like a big
warm hug you can sit down in front of the fire with your hot chocolate and it's just so heartwarming
and i absolutely love it um i could just watch it all day long, to be honest.
Oh, thank you so much, Diane.
You know, with The Repair Shop...
Yeah.
..when I went to put it on, I just...
You've watched it before, haven't you?
I think I've watched bits of it.
Bits and pieces.
Do you know there's been 13 series?
Wow.
Well, I'm not surprised.
It is a big bloody hitter for the bbc that is it really is
isn't it jay blades is all over the place yeah but before putting it on i said to noah who's
servant right come and sit down with mummy we're going to watch the repair shop i think you'll
enjoy it it's all about how people come in with something from their lives or from their past
that means something to them and they're bringing it to people who are specialists in mending things
and woodwork and crafts, all sorts of things.
And you bring something in that you would like to be repaired,
mended, made to look like how it was when you first ever had it.
And that's all I said to Noah.
And then we sat down and the episode was about a woman
whose mum had come over here to live in this country.
Yes.
And the first
thing that she bought was this black leather handbag and she talked about how much it reminded
her of her mother who'd now you know passed on yeah and um and it had all come away and she
wanted you know all the memories of that and then there was a man whose brother had died the year
before and he brought in a Noah's Ark which reminded him all about his brother and his
childhood yeah and my little Noah was like oh my gosh it's a Noah's Ark, which reminded him all about his brother. And his childhood. Yeah. And my little Noah was like, oh, my gosh, it's a Noah's Ark,
a Noah's Ark, and was so excited.
Within 15 minutes, I'd cried twice.
Yeah.
I was so moved.
I just thought, my God, why haven't I been sitting and watching more of this?
And then we went on and we watched three episodes in a row.
Let me tell you something about the repair shop.
I'll tell you why it's been going for 13 seasons.
Whoever created that
program unbelievable program because you've got a story which doesn't go on for too long
it's got nostalgia oh yeah and love and warmth throughout it and then on top of that, you've got all the professionals
where you're learning things.
I put it on.
I learnt that tinfoil polishes up chrome.
Does it really?
Well, there you go.
Oh, my God.
I saw a lady, her husband.
I mean, again, it didn't choke me up.
I think I'm a bit hard, you know.
You're saying that like it's a surprise.
I think it's a bit hard, you know. You're saying that like it's a surprise.
I think it's been well established.
I think it's been well established on our podcast that you are harder than me.
I am quite hard.
I don't think the repair shop's ever made me cry.
And I have watched a few. I was sitting there watching it with Noah.
And it was so...
When the man started talking about that him and his brother
had been gifted this Noah's Ark and how much it meant to them and when they were and they were
showing photos of him and his brother when they were little boys and I was saying to Noah look
that's like you and Kit together and he was like it is it is look it's like us and then he was
talking about the memories of his brother and how his brother had died the year before and how hard it had been for the family.
And then he was talking just about his memories
and he's like, I was just gone.
But when they whip out those things and you see step by step,
they're going to rejuvenate things,
they're going to repaint them, repolish them.
I remember watching one years ago
and it was an older lady, you know,
who'd lost her husband or whatever
and it was a little tiny grandfather clock and it meant the world to them.
And they got it as a wedding present 75 years ago or whatever.
It's incredible.
I think I block it out because it's so nostalgic.
Yes.
Do you just go poof and you put a thing up?
I think I do.
Yeah.
Because it is so nostalgic and so sweet.
Yeah.
It's a fantastic format.
It's easy to watch.
And if you fancy your warm mug of hot chocolate
like our listener yeah and just to watch something with ease and to make you feel a little bit warm
and maybe have a little little tear this is the program all of these skills that people can do
i mean when the woman she she was saying i have to completely take apart this you know black leather
handbag yeah and all of these holes you know i've got to go i've got to sort of um you know mend it all again going all the way around you know with
leather and reline it and then lace it all back up so all of that i thought my god i hope these
skills aren't ever lost that you know all these amazing you know skills that well i know i bought
it's not going to do that are they well i don't know they probably end up you know they probably
could no i hope all of these skills don't go.
And then she was talking about her mother and her parents' relationship
and it reminded her of her mum.
It's just a blink and it's just set me off.
I was like, oh, my God, this is amazing.
And this is like mine and Noah's show now that we'll sit down together
and we'll watch and it's our show now.
That's really lovely.
And I just thought it was beautiful.
So you can watch The Repair Shop, all eps, on BBC iPlayer.
So Becoming Karl Lagerfeld is all about the amazing, iconic Karl Lagerfeld
who ended up in the Chanel fashion house, but it's his journey,
starting as a fashion designer through his family life,
his personal life, and where he ends up.
I don't know, right, if there is something just wrong with me
because I tried four times to get into it.
I know what you're going to do.
Well, I tried four times and I couldn't get into it
and then I stopped watching it.
So I've not got to the end of it one
because I thought it was a load of rubbish.
Okay.
I started watching it, right.
I put it on and I think I pressed subtitles.
So it's on Disney+.
I'm watching it on Disney+.
Me too, yeah.
I put on subtitles because I like, plus i'm watching it on disney me too yeah i put on subtitles because
i like if i'm watching a show i like to listen to it in the language absolutely it's been made in
yep and i'll read the subtitles and we decided that we were going to do you know something like
that because um our listeners have said you know oh will you watch some shows yeah so we're gonna
do looping we have that lovely listener we'll do that in a week or two or whatever so we're gonna
do that so we so we put this on with the intention that that's what it're going to do looping and we had that lovely listener, we'll do that in a week or two or whatever. So we're going to do that. So we
put this on with the intention that that's what it was going to
be like. Now you might have to explain
to me because I still am in kind of
like I don't know what the hell went on.
I put Becoming Karl Lagerfeld on.
I pressed subtitles and I pressed
English and then
I ended up getting English
subtitles and then the actors
were speaking but then I could tell they were talking
in a different language, but then I got this
American dubbing
put over. Can I tell you something?
But then I tried to change the dubbing and eventually
after about three goes, right,
I changed the dubbing because it was this awful American
oh, hello, I would like to meet Carl.
Oh, oh yeah, and it sounded like it was all the same
voice, it was dreadful. I was like, oh, this is terrible.
So then I tried three times and then I got that off.
And I think, I don't know if I'm now listening to it in French or,
I think I tried to listen to it in German and now I think I'm on French.
And they're speaking in French and I've got English subtitles.
So can I tell you my story?
Yeah.
Last night, I had a very busy week, what have you,
and I thought, oh, right, we're doing pod tomorrow.
I'd watched everything and, you know,
and I thought, I've not watched Becoming Karl Lagerfeld yet.
So Mark fell asleep next to me on the sofa.
He was knackered.
He's building the garden railway at the moment, so he's tired.
So he fell asleep and I thought, right, I'll put an ep on.
I thought there was something wrong with my telly.
I thought that, you know sometimes the aspects
and different things
go wrong on the telly
sometimes when you press the button on settings
on the TV. Yeah.
I've been listening to it in the American.
Yes, that's what I was just telling you about.
So I've been listening to it in the American
and obviously every now and again a weird sort of French bit
or German bit comes up.
Somebody'll go, merci.
And then somebody starts talking like this,
and it's in a voice with an American accent,
which isn't relating to how they're supposed to be acting.
Oh, it's awful.
Are we doing it right?
Are we doing it right, or have we done it wrong?
I just popped it onto Disney Plus and started to play it.
So that's where I'm at.
I've not changed anything.
But I quite like it.
Do you?
How much have you watched?
I watched two episodes last night.
Because I thought, Jesus, this is slow to start.
And it was taking forever in that down club.
It was really slow.
I was like, oh, this is really slow.
But by the end of, I mean, it did take a while to get into. And I think it was just because Mark was asleep. I was really slow. I was like, oh, this is really slow. But by the end of, I mean, it did take a while to get into,
and I think it was just because Mark was asleep, I was sat there,
I was just quite enjoying being on my own.
You know when someone's next to you?
Yes.
It was really peaceful in my lounge, and I thought,
oh, I'm really enjoying this.
I had a little gin and tonic.
And I thought, oh, I could actually have gone and watched another one,
but it was 11.20 or whatever, and I thought, oh, no,
I'm going to go to bed now.
Has he become Karl Lagerfeld yet? yet well you don't know do you what happens at
the end of episode two spoiler alert it's not that big but i felt really sorry for him because
he kind of his mum bought him a cake for his birthday his 40th birthday but he's pretending
to be 35 and you're kind of realizing this. And you're kind of realising this struggle.
Yeah.
And he kind of shoved this cake down.
And he was eating the cake and then he was crying with it.
So I don't know if there's kind of a little bit of maybe
of an eating disorder with him or the fact that he doesn't like himself.
So I feel like there's an emotional side to it now.
I'll tell you why I liked it.
I really like the music.
I'm a bit of a sucker for that
the glam 70s.
Yeah, I like that.
You know, and they're all there
and you think, oh wow,
what was that like?
So I kind of really enjoy
that side of it.
And they're dancing
and they're cool.
And, you know,
I just kind of think,
God, imagine going back
to that time,
that kind of 70s. What would that have to that time, that kind of 70s.
What would that have been like?
So I kind of like that.
Listen, you need to watch it.
If you can get into it, I am watching it with a dubbing.
But I think the more you watch, it's like anything,
the more you're going to be intrigued.
It's no different to Love Island and watching a couple of those
and then wanting to know what happens.
Yeah.
It really isn't.
I think I was disappointed as well
because I watched that one about the death of Versace years ago
and I got straight into that.
I mean, it's a completely different show.
Yes, yeah.
But I got straight into that and I thought it was great.
But you're saying it's different, but, you know,
it's a fashion house thing.
Maybe you were expecting, I mean, I'm a sucker.
I like a label and I like a, so I like watching.
Yeah.
You know, and this thing about Vogue and you've got.
Well, normally, like, that is right up my street.
And I would normally love something like this.
But I think what with all of the dubbing,
and then when it went back to being French,
I still thought, oh, my God, I still don't, I'm still not,
I'm not getting into it.
Yeah.
But at the moment, I'm still just, I'm not in it.
I just, I can't get into it.
Oh, well, do you know what?
Don't waste your time.
We've got loads to watch.
We've got loads.
We've got loads.
That's going to have to be one that I just say goodbye to.
But this is what happens now.
We've got to be ruthless.
And if you fancy it, it is on Disney+.
Let us know what you think.
Please send us your messages and your voice notes.
Right, I think we should hear what recommendations our listeners have got for us.
Always.
First, we've got a recommendation from Kate.
Hi, ladies.
It's Kate from Oney in Buckinghamshire.
Recommendation for you is Robson Green's Weekend Escapes.
So I know that you feel like some of the series
where people go travelling are a little bit overdone now,
because you watch them all the time, but I think you'll love this one.
He's cheeky chappy, going off on little weekend trips
with family members or famous pals.
Thank you so much, Kate.
Thank you.
Well, let's do it.
Yeah, I think we should do it.
Let's do it for Kate.
And also, we've had a lot of drama, a lot going on.
Yes.
It'll be nice and relaxing.
It will.
It will be nice.
A little half an hour of peace.
Yes.
Thank you.
Might calm us down.
Yeah, absolutely.
We've also got a recommendation here from Fiona.
Third time lucky.
I've tried this voice note three times now and it's still not working.
Anyway, thank you for your podcast.
I love it.
I listen to it every week and really enjoy it.
It's so funny and just so real as well.
And I laugh so much at you both.
I just wanted to phone in to recommend Bodkin.
It's fantastic.
I discovered it by chance when i was
looking for something to watch while ironing set in ireland about the disappearance of three people
and it's um some investigative journalists are there it's funny it's dark it's gripping it's
just a really good watch and i haven't watched something like it for ages
so I really recommend it
and hope you enjoy
thanks bye
thank you
thank you so much
well I think we should put it on our list
yeah
sounds great doesn't it
I've not even heard of that
it sounds good
bodkin
bodkin
sounds good to me
and finally let's hear this voice note from Lorna
I just want to say thank you
for coming with me on my holidays.
I listened to you when I was in Turkey.
I listened to you when I was stuck in a caravan in the rain
in the New Forest last week.
And I listened to you this morning when I was down South Sea Beach
because I'm from Portsmouth.
I'll be taking you with me to Morocco in a few weeks as well.
Fucking hell, she gets about a bit.
I just wanted to say about a series I watched
with Daisy May Cooper and Lenny Rush in it,
Am I Being Unreasonable?
Oh, it was amazing.
It was so funny.
A little quirk she puts into it.
And the ending had a really big twist.
Think you might enjoy it.
Anyway, really, really enjoying the podcast.
And can't wait to hear more.
Oh, thank you. We should check that out.
Eliza's watched the full series.
I don't think it's appropriate for a 13-year-old.
Please don't moan.
My children watch television, which isn't age appropriate.
It's fine.
It's how they learn stuff.
I don't let them out the house on their own until they're 18,
but they can watch what telly they want.
This is how I get round stuff.
Anyway, yes, I've seen bits and pieces of it and it's really, really good.
Really good.
Well, we should check that out. Really good. Well, we should check that out.
Really good.
Okay, listen up before we go.
We've got a call out for you
for our What Shall We Watch bonus episodes.
For our next one,
we'd like to hear some voice notes from you
about your favourite TV detective.
Ooh.
Jo, you're going to love this one.
Yes.
We'll do a bonus ep all about super sleuths,
who your favourite detective is and why,
or is it you've just got a favourite detective show?
Let us know.
I'm sort of going back to Bougerac when I was younger.
Listen to you.
We love hearing your voices,
so please do keep sending us voice notes and messages on WhatsApp.
We might even play them out in our bonus episodes.
The number is 033 06784 704.
Well, I think that's enough from us this week.
We have been watching House of the Dragon.
Have we? We haven't really.
We didn't watch it. We didn't watch all of it.
We couldn't brace ourselves to get through it.
But if you want to watch it, House of the Dragon is on Sky Atlantic and now.
The Repair Shop
is on BBC iPlayer
and Being Karl Lagerfeld
is on Disney+.
Thank you for listening
and we'll be back
with more Off the Telly
next Wednesday
on BBC Sounds.
Bye!
See ya!
Off the Telly is hosted
by Natalie Cassidy
and Joanna Page.
The producer is Georgia Keating.
The commissioning editor is Rhian Roberts
and it's a BBC Studios audio production for BBC Sounds.
From BBC Radio 4, this is Communicating with me, Ros Atkins.
This is the podcast where I talk to some of the best communicators,
like legendary magazine editor Tina Brown,
the Olympic athlete and broadcaster Michael Johnson,
to find out why good communication really matters
and how best to do it.
Have you ever walked out of a meeting and thought,
why didn't I make the impact that I'd intended to?
Or perhaps you put down the phone to the bank
without getting the answer you wanted. We all have dozens of interactions every day, and this series will
provide you with practical advice for communicating effectively during them.
