Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story.
Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge,
there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice.
And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am.
It's not just any audiobook.
This is a full cast performance.
So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry,
brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdads Sing is Mr. Darcy.
And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything.
Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Poulter in the mix.
Talk about a dream cast.
Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics,
and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy.
And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels
so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
So whether it's your first time experiencing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times, you're going to fall absolutely in love all over again.
So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen.
This episode of Off the Vine is brought to you by Peloton.

with Caitlin and her guests as they sip wine, lots of wine, and get candid.
They say vulnerability creates connection.
So save the highlight reel for Instagram, because when we're among vinos, there's no filter.
It's time to unwind.
Here's your host, Caitlin Bristow.
Welcome to Off the Vine.
I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow, and I feel like Ariel needs no introduction.
You all know her.
y'all love her but i guess if you are new here in the new year welcome to the pod we are happy to add
you into this judgment-free empowering beautifully weird little family that we've created over the
past five years isn't that crazy look at us go ariel happens to be a part of that family she is one of
the funniest most genuine people i know and that says a lot because i know a lot of funny people
i also knew i needed to start off 2023 with a bang and she did not disappoint with side note
one time I tweeted
started off
the new year with a bang
I've had better
I said that once
oh my god
that was like
22 year old Caitlin
anyways laugh along with us
as we reflect on the year
of 2022
and try to set some intentions
for the new year
you look so refreshed
what
yeah
You look like
glowy and refreshed
and like you've just been
getting good sleeps.
Wow, I have been getting good sleeps.
I also have a shit ton of highlighter on, so.
Oh, I should have put something on.
I mean, I'm literally just letting my face peel off
in front of you right now.
Oh my God, you're so, so sweet of you.
I did a workout this morning,
and this is probably sweat and
highlighter.
No, I get that. I did a like hot yoga
sculpt class with Jason's mom one time,
and we came out of
the workout. And she was like, you're glowing. And I was like, it's wet, but thank you. And then I kept
it on for the rest of the day. Kept it on. Kept that shit on. Okay, first of all, I've just,
I cannot stop going down rabbit holes on Britney Spears. I can't stop. I am the same. I am
with you on that. It's like TikTok, the app knows we are all just so invested. So that's like
just all they're feeding us in the feed is just every conspiracy theory.
or like guests or anything and it's driving it's keeping me up at night to be honest with you
oh my god really yeah that's a problem i oh she i just talked about this on my last podcast with my
sister and this was did you see what i did with potatoes last night no with potatoes you don't look
because i feel like you'll puke what'd you do with potatoes last night alicia and madison my
producers were saying that potatoes potentially could suck toxins out of your body if you're sick
that if you put them in your socks that this happens and I was like well I'm going to try it and
then they sent me potatoes to the house yesterday I was like why is there two two potatoes in a bag
and they were like you're welcome and so I was like okay I'm going to try this so I
I sliced the potatoes.
I put them in my socks last night.
And in the morning, they're like,
the potatoes will be black because they'll suck all the toxins out.
And so I was like, let's see.
So in the morning, Jason was like, check your socks.
And so I pull out the potatoes.
Check your sock, potato.
Check your potato socks.
And they were black.
Are you kidding?
Can I show you?
Show it to me right now.
I'm sick.
I'm sickened already.
And I'm also so excited.
to see this because like do I have to do this hold on no those are toxins coming out of my
body so I'm negative also a negative so it worked I'm healed I am very impressed and I can't wait
to try this got a cold put potatoes in your socks depression potatoes in the socks
Potatoes in the socks.
Do you think it would work for stuff like that?
I don't know. I'm going to try now.
Yeah. Anytime I'm like feeling a little sad, I'm going to put potatoes in my socks and see what happens.
To bathe in potatoes.
Just sleep in a bath of potatoes and see, like, you'll be like living on the highest vibration ever.
I am obsessed. That is so great. Also, are you wearing six sets of headphones right now?
What's going on with you?
Can you not hear me?
Wait, the funniest part, and I just realized is that it's not even attached to the computer
right now and I need to look it up.
You are crushing it, yeah.
I was like, she's got so many earbuds.
There's a lot.
There's a lot going on in here.
Like, my face is peeling.
I got potato feet.
I've got eight sets of headphones.
It's a lot.
Also, you know, it's exciting.
You're my first guest of 2023.
Oh, my.
God, what does it mean?
It means that you're very special to me and that I feel like you would be good at setting
intentions for everybody and like starting the year off right.
I love that so much.
Thank you for having me first of all.
Second of all, happy 2023.
Can you believe?
Isn't that sound weird?
I have the chills.
Yeah, 23.
Jeez.
Like, I remember when the year 2000 hit, oh, God, I was so scared.
I thought the world was going to end and I was at a party.
Why too big?
A Y2K. I was so scared. I had such bad anxiety. My mom forced me to go to my friend's house because I was going to stay home and cry. She was like, just go. And I went. And when it hit, we were doing the countdown. And my friend, Coulter turned the lights off when it hit like midnight on year 2000. I thought the world was ending.
Were you scared because your friend's name was Coulter?
I was like, Coulter is clearly an alien and he is. I'm at his house.
and the world is ending because his name's Coulter.
Such a sick name.
I love that.
He's like Coulter.
I've never heard that name and I'm obsessed.
What a backstreet boy.
That does sound like a boy band name.
Yeah.
Like could you be any more One Direction?
No.
No, he couldn't.
How did we get to Coulter?
Oh, Y2K.
I was like, how did we get here?
Oh, did your mom like save food and stuff just in case the world ended?
I wonder if she did.
She wouldn't have told me because she never wanted me
to feel scared. So if she was scared, she probably would never let me know because she would freak out
about other things, but like she never wanted me to be scared. Yeah. For example, I think I might have
told you this, but I was just talking about this the other day and you were here. So it makes me think I
told you. But when there was the tornadoes in, yes, I did tell you this. When the tornado we were in my Jeep
driving. And when the tornadoes came through Nashville, my mom was here and it was 3.30 in the
morning we poured herself a whiskey and we sat in my tiny little powder room bathroom and we sat there
and I was like mom I'm actually scared I feel sick she was like I'm not scared she's like we're
gonna be fine and in the morning she was like I was scared oh my mom is the exact opposite
she's like everybody down just just like for no reason I'm like mom it it's raining like
you know she just she just gets so she gets worked up
And so when Y2K hit,
did she?
Oh, you better, we had, we had water for everyone in the town.
We, she was prepared.
We had, like, space food.
We had, like, she bought, like, food for space.
Okay.
Like styrofoam ice cream that, like, for astronauts?
Yes.
Well, hey, if it did happen.
And then after Y2K, like, nothing happened,
we just ate, ate weird ice cream for, like, two months.
it only lasted you two months. Wow, you guys wouldn't have been very sad. I got hungry.
We weren't very sad. Actually, there was like, there was like 10 years worth. I don't know if I would just throw it away. But I remember being like, we have astronaut food at my house. Like I was like that girl at school. I mean, that is kind of cool. I remember thinking that stuff was cool too. But you know, it's funny is my mom's like so chill about that thing. But she's going to kill me for saying this because she listens to my podcast. But she would like cry.
I got a haircut.
Like, she would be dramatic.
Like, she'd be like, ah, like, I cut my hair and she'd cry.
Is your mom's birthday in September?
September.
What?
Because I used to cry every time I got my haircut.
I used to cry, and I never cried when I was younger.
And the only time I ever cried was when I got my haircut.
And my birthday is September 27.
And I looked up one time on some, I don't know, website.
thing that was talking about your sign and everything if you're a Libra it says like most likely
cries when you get your haircut and I was like that was the most it was like the most scene I ever
was when I read that because like the horoscope stuff I like don't really get into it I mean
fine whatever some of it's kind of cool I know sorry and I read that and I was like horoscope okay
well yeah my mom is going to feel so validated because I think I bring that up in like therapy
sometimes where I'm like, my mom cried when I got, now, now she can be like, it's just
science.
Because she's a Libra.
It's science.
It's because she's a Libra.
Now I forgive her.
I don't even need to go to therapy anymore.
That's just that I'm telling you, I can't wait to tell her that because that's pretty
crazy.
And you also tell her that it's from me and she'll like it even more.
Your mom loves me.
She, Ariel, she genuinely like, like, she asks about you daily.
She wants, she just like, I think she thinks.
thinks you're like a daughter from another mother like she really that didn't make sense i kind of am a
daughter from another mother you you are technically but she like feels like you were meant to be hers i think
it's yeah she really she cares about you she really does we had such a fun time in national even though
we were just like hermits but i like that yes and we just like had nice conversations we went to top golf
that was fun we did i had so much fun at your house i don't think you understand
I when I was at your house I felt so like I feel like I don't have enough of this in
LA where I can go to someone's house and just be on the couch or go to someone's house and
just be yeah but the thing is is like I think I could do that I have friends in LA that I could
do that with but for some reason when you have your own house you just don't do that you want to be
home so it was so nice to be in your town and be able to sit on your couch and talk
and like have wine and just like chill and not have an agenda and I just felt so taking care of
and safe at your house and I just I loved it. It was perfect. And then like that makes me so happy.
She made Christmas juice on the stove and it just smelled like Christmas juice. I don't even know
there was like berries and like burnt oranges. It was crazy. You don't understand how much I love hosting
people that I love. Like I love it was the fact that you just said that makes me so happy because I'm
as I've realized over time
like I'm just such a
acts of service kind of like person
when I want to show love
so when my friends come over
I just want them to feel so like
safe and cozy and taking care of
so the fact that you said that makes me so happy
I when you left and I was podcasting
and I didn't get to say goodbye
I like choked up a little bit
because I was like but I got used to having you here
and I really liked it
I full blown like choked up in the car
I was like I didn't give her a hug
and like I felt I
I don't have brothers and sisters.
So when I feel like sisterly love, I truly, it like makes me feel, I don't know, I'm obsessed.
Like I wish I had brothers and sisters or I wish I had a sister.
And so when friends treat me like a sister, I feel like that I could cry.
But like I, it's so important to me to have those types of relationships and the fact that I feel like so safe around you or like the fact that I could tell you anything.
And the fact that you're like podcasting, I was like, I was going to bust in.
there, but you were like talking about vaginas or something with someone. I don't know.
You literally were talking about vaginas with like a doctor. I really was. I really was talking
about vaginas with a doctor. Wait, that would have been so funny. I would have just been like pause
because you know what's funny is ramen started barking. And so I was like, oh, so I said hold on
to her for a second because I was like, oh, I can just go say bye. And you were already gone and I was
like, yeah, goodbye to my love. No, I truly was like, I went to like, I went to
like knock and I was like no what if she's like on the phone with her gynecologist or something like
I just didn't know what was going on you're either podcasting or talking about something crazy
I got to go wait you know it's so funny is yesterday I was podcasting with my sister and we were like
playing games of like finish this movie quote and my sister was like stop staring at me and I was
like swan and we're like quoting billy madison and like talking about like inappropriate things
and when I left the podcast I'm walking out and my headphones somehow connected to j
in podcasting upstairs and he was like like talking about Forbes 30 under 30 and like all this
educational stuff about and I was just like wow our podcasts are very different I was like shit
I want 80 under 80 because you know I don't know when this shit's going to pop off but it will
and it'll pop off but I'll probably be you know a little bit over 30 and so 30 under 30
and suck my penis.
I'm just kidding.
Forbes told me.
But also, you know, I just,
I really wish there was some kind of 60 under 60, 80 under 80, you know, something.
Yeah, something a little bit easier.
Realistic, I have to ask because when you were at my house, I had girls night.
And poor Ariel is not, she was not caught up on White Lotus.
She went and sat in her bedroom with like headphones and like when you FaceTime Matt for like an hour while we watched the finale.
and but you are caught up and you watch so spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't watched but if you haven't
it's probably all over the internet anyways we were talking about this the other day disappointed
are we allowed to talk about this i mean spoiler alert because i just watched it actually yeah
because i mean you should have seen it by now actually but yeah you were late to the party
you're late you're late so it's a spoiler for us what yeah what so basically i'm a little disappointed
because the guy gets the money like the guy that the husband gets the money anyways and the thing
is is like I was like oh hell yeah like get it you get yours right right she didn't she died like why
didn't she take the stairs I mean that was so her the way she died was so her I know but I'm I was
seeing the same things you I'm like so wait that whole episode we were just waiting to see who died
she dies at the end and then it's just over and now we're just supposed to think that
but that liar of a man
that she was married to gets the money?
Right.
And so, I mean, I guess we get a season three,
you know, that'll be fun.
But what, okay, who did you think was going to die?
Like, what were your predictions?
I had so many predictions.
Can I just tell you my first prediction?
Please.
I just asked you a question.
I'm like, let me talk.
So I thought, okay, so Albie,
the youngest son who's dating the, like, the escort,
yeah you know yeah I thought yeah I thought that he was going I thought that that escort was going to turn out to be like his long lost Sicilian sister oh I know that's a great that would have been way more juicy I know because they went there to look for the family and then she's like trying to get money and she doesn't know like you know she didn't know if that was her family or not but she drove them to go
find their family and I thought she was going to be like mama you know or something and then he would
be like what no and then yeah I mean that's smart I that my brain didn't even go there but now that
they look alike they look alike when they were looking into each other's eyes in bed I was like
this is the time where she's like my mom's name is Janice and he's like mine too and then they just
you know and then they're like is your mom born in September and then they're like oh my god what a
Libra. That's, you know what? Does your mom cry when she gets her haircut? It's a lot.
I tried to call it back and it didn't work. You did. That was perfect. Wait, I wonder if season three will be, you know how they kind of did a whole new one for season two? Maybe season three will be a continuation because there is so much left unsaid and so much more to figure out that maybe season three. And maybe that will be part of season three. Whoa, that would be crazy.
Honestly, Mike White, call me, can I play?
a character. Mike White, yeah. I'd like to interview that guy. Actually, you know what? One of the
executive producers from The Bachelor is good friends with him. And I was like, could you get him on my
podcast? Tell him to hire me for White Lotus season three, please. You would be freaking great in
White Lotus. I know. Wait, let's put that out into the, I know you don't believe in like,
well, you believe in a little bit of the astrology stuff, but do you believe in manifesting?
Yes. Oh, yeah. You got to put that stuff.
out there you got to like give it out yeah i i believe in like i believe in saying what you want
and uh it being able to cultivate i don't know how to describe that but like right like no that
was a good way of describing it it's it's the like i mean it's the whole movie that i always watch
and listen to but the secret of like the law of attraction that is it's proven and i've experienced it
through so many parts of my life. So maybe
I would die if you were on
the White Lotus. Oh,
my God, now I'm going to manifest this
for you. Like, that's going to consume my brain.
It's, that's going to take over my Britney
suckle. Let's, okay,
I want every single person listening right
now to just really focus
on the fact that I'm going to be on White Lotus
season three. You could be, though.
Do you think they've already started filming?
I hope not.
They probably have, on.
Okay, well, maybe season four. I don't think that
show's going anywhere that i feel like this is like the show of life that everybody is obsessed with like
the fact that jason hasn't watched it makes me a little turned off i'm obsessed i feel like it is such a
a show that can just go forever because of the constant change in people right like that you can
keep going forever and it's a whole new show every time so that's the cool part where i feel like
if you're watching a normal show you're getting you're kind of
like I don't know the jig is up you know what does that even mean I never said that in my life
I actually I think it's the gig is up but I but I but I I don't look at it I look at it I think it means
like the act is up like its story's over you're not fooling anyone is it not the jig I'm
pretty sure it's the jig it is up this scheme is revealed okay well then I've been saying it
wrong my whole career. The gig is up. Wait, the jig is up does sound better. The jig is up.
Well, either way, I'm glad to use that in a sentence today. What's funny is... I've never in my life
said that. Well, now, today it's a new year, new you. New year, new me, the jig is up.
That's, I, well, today, you know what we're doing, how we're reflecting and setting some intentions.
That can be like your phrase for the year. You know what?
It won't even make sense.
And you'll be in a meeting, you'll be like, the jigs up.
They'll be like, sorry, that's my intention for 2023.
I said some very important intentions on the podcast the other day and the jig is up.
Oh, I love it.
Okay, when you've got a lot going on, it can be really hard to find time or motivation for a workout.
I know I've been there a million times before, but Peloton has really motivated me to get it in,
ever and whenever I can. You guys already know how I feel about Peloton. It's my fave. So I've
had their bike for a while now, take classes on the app. But the Peloton row brand new to me.
I went to their showroom in Nashville. I need to get this rower immediately. I should have asked
for it for Christmas. Maybe I'll just get it myself. Merry Christmas, Caitlin. You guys,
I'm serious when I say I actually had fun working out and feel like I got in a brand new type of
workout for me, just full body. Peloton is bringing motivation and energy to rowing like never before with
a variety of rowing workouts on and off the row and all new world class instructors who will help
you get in a great workout while having fun no matter what your experience level is. And rowing is no
joke. You can work on 86% of your muscles in only 15 minutes and get all your cardio and strength
in one shot. The technology was really cool when I tried it in the showroom. It helped me get into it
the right way and they have this form assist while working out. So it's like a breakdown of what you're
doing right and wrong and it'll help give you the proper.
form and the breakdown is at the end so you can go even harder next time. Right now is the perfect
time to get rowing with Peloton Row and we can promise you've never rode like this before. Peloton Row offers
a variety of classes for all levels and game changing features that will help you get rowing
or advance what you already can do. Explore Peloton Row and financing options at onepellaton.com
slash row.
Speaking of manifesting, I, like I said before, I feel like I've lived so many of my like
things I've written out and put it out there.
It's crazy.
But I feel like I'm off my game a bit lately.
I feel like I'm wanting things too bad where I'm like trying too hard to manifest.
So I'm not actually just like, I don't know.
Letting it happen.
Yeah.
And or like feeling it for real.
I'm like, I will have a billion dollars.
And then I just like focus on that.
And I'm like, no, Caitlin, that's stupid.
But I feel like, first of all, I have a really good segment for us to do.
It's a Peloton segment because I went to their showroom.
I need to shut up about this because I'm telling everybody how I went to the showroom over the, like, holidays.
The mall is packed.
And I choose to go to the showroom to row.
And anyways, I'm calling the segment Romance Roundup,
where my guest will be talking about all things love.
So today I thought we could talk about something that luckily neither of us
have had to deal with any more bad dates.
But I'm sure in the past,
have you ever,
what is your worst date story?
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, well, the first one that came to my mind was something.
But I also feel like there could be worse.
But my, I actually, I will say,
I haven't had the craziest.
bad date stories.
This one was just so bad
because the person got so drunk.
And the thing is,
like, we were having fun.
It was like we were at dinner
and everything was fine.
I feel like people have horror stories.
And so this is like nothing compared to what
I've heard people have.
Hey, you know what?
Did you tell them the jig is up?
You know what? The jig is up.
Schemes out.
I'm out of here.
I'm done.
but yeah he got he like it was weird because like he was shorter than me yeah that was
first part that I was like oh but that's fine he was just way shorter than me so I think like
he just drank too much and like couldn't handle it and he drank he drank like maybe five drinks
or something four drinks at dinner it is but like it didn't feel like a lot because we were there
for so long like i'll have another one sure and um by the end of it though i was like bro like because
i only had maybe like one glass of wine or something i don't drink that much and he i think he was
just so nervous and didn't like no one to stop drinking or whatever bless up yeah he got so drunk
and then we get in the car and oh so we shared this like thing that had a lot of garlic in it
and it was like a like a dip a garlic thing with like bread
and his breath oh no oh no so he was drunk with garlic breath did he go in for it oh he went in and I and I was like oh this is my house and I literally just oh no no but he was like the sweetest and I feel so bad oh my god wait he's not gonna listen to this I hope not he's a big Caitlin Bristow fan he's a big wine guy I have two guys that listen to this podcast and one of them is my dad
well katelyn i have to tell you something
oh god
went on a day with your daddy
got hammered
he loves garlic
yeah it was
but like
the shitty thing was
is I think like he probably wished
he didn't drink that much
because we were having a great time
but it just was it was too much
I guess that's the worst date I've ever had
oh that's so sad
no that's pretty bad
I mean
a wasted garlic breath dude
who's shorter than you that went in for the kill? Not great. Not great.
Also, not. Went in for the kill. He tried to murder me. Yeah. He tried to murder me after we got dinner.
So aggressive. He went in for the kill. Breath.
Hey, breath can get close to murdering someone when it's garlic. I actually had this morning I put,
because I made these ice cubes that are cayenne pepper, garlic, ginger, apple cider, vinegar, honey.
what cinnamon and then you blend that with water and you put them in ice cube trays
and then in your socks and then you put them in your socks and you let them melt
overnight and then in the morning you smell like garlic but you're cured but you drop oh and six
cloves of garlic in this mixture blend it with water put it in ice cubes ice cube trays
and then in the morning you just drop one of those in hot water stir it up drink it boom
Flu balm.
Whoa.
That's really cool.
Yeah.
Send me that recipe.
I'll send you that recipe.
It was crazy.
Today was my first one, but now I feel like I smell like garlic.
But really, it's six clothes of garlic over two ice cube trays.
That's fine.
Yeah.
It's fine.
And also, garlic is fine.
Like, I actually don't mind if, like, you smell like garlic as long as you don't, like, try to murder me in a mad with your breath.
Yeah, you know.
So I only have one bad dating story, but I've told it on my podcast a million times, but this guy was a pilot. And he, that was just like a, I don't know why threw that in there just to paint a picture, I guess. He was a pilot that has nothing to do with the story. We get it. You date pilots. He was a pilot for a private jet. No, he wasn't. It was like Spirit Airlines. And he, just kidding. I don't even care if it is. That's cool. But he took me to a gay bar. And we, and it was in the day.
it was at like after my shift at like 4 o'clock we went to a gay bar and he ordered me food which
I don't like what people do and he ordered potato skins what's with potatoes so you just don't
like potato skins I mean I do but I thought it was a weird date food to order for us to share
at a gay bar why were we at a gay bar is the real question why we got a gay bar in the first place
I don't know but now I literally have potato skin so
Full circle. Okay. Also, I love including Bino's in the fun, so I have to share the story with you from my Facebook group of this girl's date story. Okay.
Oh my God, I'm so excited. I enjoy this one. Once I went on a date with this guy that talked a lot about squirrels, it was during the shutdown. So I went to his apartment where there was no furniture in the living room and a mattress on the floor. It turns out his squirrel obsession is because he is a carnivore and he wants to hunt and kill squirrels to eat. He showed me.
me his camera of all the squirrel photos, and he took my photo before I left.
Thank you so much for revealing that. I have so many questions that...
Wait. He showed you a bunch of pictures of squirrels and then took your photo after he told you
he wanted to eat the photograph squirrels? Yes, with no furniture. That sounds a little
Jeffrey Dahmerish. Sounds a little Dexter. It sounds a little Dexter to me. Except Dexter's a hero.
Yeah, this guy ain't...
This guy's a squirrel murderer.
Hold on a second.
So, I mean, I just have questions.
Can we get her on?
I know.
I really wish because a lot of times when they tell me these stories and I'll read them,
I'm like, I have so many questions.
Yeah.
I mean, maybe he just, maybe, I mean, think about, okay.
I'm just like on the squirrel guy's side.
I'm just trying to give everyone like a little benefit of the doubt.
Okay, what if he just like got nervous and he's like,
he's
if you hunt
you do
eat squirrels
you do
I guess
have you ever seen
the series alone
naked and afraid
oh
that too
yeah they'll eat anything
I mean they're like
oh I've stabbed a scorpion
I'm like what
they'll eat
protein
protein
so like that's the thing
I'm
maybe he's a hunter
and he likes squirrel meat
clearly but why would he take a picture
of her after showing her all the pictures of the squirrels. I don't know. Maybe she's hot.
Maybe she looked like a squirrel. Maybe she looked like a squirrel.
Maybe that's why he was attracted to her in the first place. Okay, so real quick, a little bit about
the Peloton Row, which I promise is much more enjoyable than these dating horror stories. But
Peloton Row offers a variety of classes for all levels and game-changing features that help you
get rowing or advance what you can already do. And I never thought I was a
big row guy until I went to the showroom and did this. So you can explore Peloton Row and
financing options at OnePeloton.com slash row. And you're going to want to check it out. It's actually
really fun. Okay. Let's get into the new year intention setting, shall we? Okay. I'm excited to have
you doing this with me. I have some journal prompts to help us out on this little journey we're
about to embark on. Look what I brought. Yes. Wait, I love that. I brought. I brought it.
Okay. I have it so that we could do one each.
Yes. Okay. I love that. Tell everybody how we did this the other night.
Well, also, like, I don't want to, like, just steal your intention, Thunder.
No, this is, it aligns. It's perfect.
It aligns. Okay. Same way of life.
So I recently went to, like, this wellness retreat situation, and it is the most beautiful
experience I've ever had. It's called OnSight.
and it is truly like it's such it was it's just incredible yeah and it they have um
all different types of like programs that you can do where you can go and like do a couple's
thing or you can do horse therapy or you can like go in a big group or you can go for a really
long time there's all these different things i went for seven days i turned my phone off i got
away from it all and it truly was like it was so incredible and you should look it up if you
haven't heard about it. I haven't been talked about it yet, really, but I haven't talked about
my experience really with anyone except for like Matt and you. But I really like want to shout
it from the rooftops on how cool and amazing this experience was. I've never done anything like
it. And what's so crazy is when you're there, you're like, you kind of think, this is so weird.
You know, this is so weird. You're with a bunch of strangers and you're meeting people and telling
You feel like exposed.
You feel exposed.
You feel so vulnerable and you don't have your phone.
You're like sleeping without a phone next to your head.
This is so weird.
No, that's normal.
Like that that is normal shit.
We are so weird in the real world.
We are weird that we have our phone next to our head and then right away when you open your eyes, you're scrolling things, you're emailing, you're taking phone calls during dinner.
Like, no.
We should be like.
we should be in nature.
And that's the other cool part of it is you're like out in the middle of Tennessee.
It's so beautiful.
And there's animals.
It's just gorgeous.
And so you wake up and you're just at this beautiful place and then you're with strangers and you're just conversing.
And it's just incredible.
Anyways, so I went and did that.
Check it out.
If you haven't heard of it, it's pretty incredible stuff.
Every single person that I've heard that went to that, that and Hoffman.
Those are the two where I'm just like, people come out of there and say they're in like a euphoric place in their life where they're just like they know what the beauty of life is.
They have done so much inner work.
They've connected with people.
It's amazing.
The connection you can make with somebody if you're not looking at your phone, even for 10 minutes is massive.
If we're standing in line at Starbucks and you're just like this, you're not making eye contact.
There's no way for someone to talk to you.
there's no way for you to talk to somebody we are just shut off from everything that's around us
right now and then we wonder why time goes by so fast yes cape nobody's in the moment everything goes
by fast and then also like if you're single how is anyone going to talk to you if yeah or like
how are you going to talk to anybody or if you're if you're lonely like no one's going to see your
eyes and want to talk to you i don't know when you were when i was there i just i i met the most
incredible people that I hope to know for the rest of my life because they're just so special.
You probably will because you shared that with them. Definitely. I mean, they're they're amazing,
amazing people. But anyways, I got this thing. It's called Discovering You card deck. And it has all these
like, it's like kind of like journal prompts if you want them to be or if you're in a group of friends
or at dinner or something, you could like pull these out and be like, pick a card. We've got present.
We've got past. And we have future.
And if you want to try it, we can. If not, we could do your intentions.
No, I would love to because we did this the other night. And I was like, I didn't want to go to bed because I wanted to just keep doing that because it sparks so many different conversations and like deep thoughts and it makes you feel gratitude. Which you know it's crazy. Like a huge part of manifesting is gratitude. But I found out that your brains are wired. Our brains are wired to overlook the good things. Now, don't quote me on this, but I heard it somewhere.
But that's something that our brains are hardwired to do, like take in negative things that happened to us because it was how we used to survive, like back in like caveman days.
So like if I eat that berry, I will die.
Negative thought, need to remember that to survive.
It's like a survival mode.
And so we have to be really intentional about calling out what we're grateful for in our lives to override the negativity.
So I feel like what we're about to do with these cards is such a good practice for that.
I love that.
Yeah, that's so true.
Isn't that crazy?
That is really cool.
So are you saying that like if you have a negative thought, you have to counteract it?
Or what do you do in those situations?
Yeah, like because our brains are just hardwired to hang on to a negative thought.
So usually we focus on that.
So we have to shift and focus on something that we're grateful for to, yeah, to kind of override it.
Right.
And then you can train the brain.
I love that.
Yeah.
Drain the brain.
Drain the main brain drain the main vein
Drain the main vein
Drain the main vein
Shit
Do you want to try one?
Yeah, I do
Do you want to pick out past, future, or present?
Let's do
Present
Present
What is one thing you can celebrate
In yourself right now?
Oh, I can celebrate in myself right now
like in the second or like in my life right now i think in your life right now i have never
or whatever you want i i okay i have never been more intrigued and excited to learn more about myself
than ever i have in my life like i'm just in this place in my life where i'm like i really love who i am
and i want to dive as deep as possible to to learn even more about why i am the way i am and i'm like so
excited about that. I love that. Yeah. That is really cool. That's something to celebrate for sure,
because a lot of people don't maybe don't care about that or don't even think to think about that.
Right. And I'm like, yeah, like this morning I was meditating and I was just like, like, I was like,
I love my heart. And I was just like, and I thought about everything that's made me that way.
And so many things that I've learned about myself through like therapy and this brain spotting I'm doing and all these things.
and then I'm doing what you did
and doing that week retreat
and I'm doing inner child work in January
where I'm not going to have a phone for a week
and I can't wait to meet up with you after
so that we can be like,
holy shit.
You better invite me
to whatever trip you go on afterwards
because I will be there.
You're going to be my person after that.
I will be holding space for you
however you need me.
I will be quiet.
I will talk.
I will just listen.
I'll do whatever you want,
but I need to go.
I will cry.
We will cry together.
I'm so excited.
We will cry.
I love.
that um what are you going to do past present or future i'm going to answer the same one you did
because it says everyone answers but um what is one thing you can celebrate in yourself right now um
i would probably say that kind of similar to what you said but i'm celebrating the fact that i am
making big changes in my life with with not eating a bunch of sugar like i love sugar i love
not just because it's the new year.
Like I truly, I love anything with sugar in it,
but I recently have been kind of like pushing it away.
And yesterday, like, picked something up and I was like,
I want this, which is clearly just sugar.
And I was like, no, I don't want that.
And I put it back.
And instead, like, I got a green juice with apple in it,
which is sweet.
And you can like, you can just like figure it out.
Well, I'm big on intuitive eating.
I did an eight-week course twice on intuitive eating and how it actually like nourishing your body
and listening to what your body actually needs and how that will make you feel satisfied and
energized and like you sleep better and you feel better and your skin's better and your brain works better.
Like it's crazy how beneficial that is to you and you're like clarity.
And I'm also, I have a hard time working out because I get really, really dizzy when I work out.
And so I just sometimes, like, I just won't or if I work out, I go really easy on myself.
But I've been doing Tracy Anderson classes.
Have you ever done a Tracy Anderson class?
I've heard about them, but I want to do it so bad.
Girl, I am J-Lo.
Like, I am, like, if you do some Tracy Anderson workouts, yes, they're hard.
But, like, even if you do half the class, you're getting the best.
best workout you've ever gotten.
Are they in Nashville?
You could do them online, but I don't know if she has a studio in Nashville, but
she, her home workouts are like, it's the same thing.
Well, obviously in a class, it's probably more fun.
But they're, the online studio is great.
But I've been going to the classes and they are like, you're jacked.
I'm jacked right now.
Hugh Jackman.
Okay, so you're working on.
like the inside out like you're just like yeah i'm going to focus on nourishing myself and feeling
good on the inside because that i had i had a sign on my mirror forever i don't know where it went i
think um i don't know it's gone but it said i don't need the message anymore because i read it
every day and now i believe it so it just like magically disappeared but it said if you work on
the inside the outside will fall into place which you know what i mean like you won't care as much
about the vain things of life where you'll just feel so good inside that you'll just shine from the
outside. I love it. I think that's so true. And I feel like that's such a new year, new me type
like answer. But I think that's a celebration because I actually want to do it. Most of the time
when you set that kind of goal for the new year, it's like you dread it. Like, I'm not going to drink.
Like, no, like I actually like want to not. I actually want to eat better. And I eat. I eat.
really really healthy actually like I'm very good but I still will just like dominate sugar like
it's nobody's business like I'll just bring it I love it like sugar is an addiction your phone's an
addiction like these are all things that are like distracting our brains and bodies from feeling it's
best and the phone thing I've been so good about like not scrolling right before bed and
scrolling but to fall asleep like I just put my phone away and I close my eyes like a normal
freaking worse.
And I bet you sleep better than anyone now because I know it's so, I really got to try
that sometimes.
I'll tell you one thing I won't give up with sugar.
I'll never give up wine.
I just, I love it so much and it's a joy in my life and it makes me happy.
And I just, I don't, like, I just love it.
But.
Well, we have to have, we have to have things that we enjoy.
Yeah.
Like eating or drinking or whatever it is.
Like, I'm not going to stop eating every sugar.
Like, I just can't, I'm not going to have freaking sugar after every meal or, you know, or something.
Like, that's crazy.
You know what you should try?
Do you like peppermint chocolate?
No, I don't.
But I'll try anything once.
Well, I actually am not the biggest peppermint chocolate fan either.
I feel like I talked about this with a guy from The Bachelor's name's Justin.
You wouldn't know because you don't watch the show, which I also want to talk about.
Just calling me out.
It's so funny.
It's funny because of the big one guy meeting that I just wanted.
want to touch on after but it tastes like you're just eating like toothpaste and that's gross but i will say
one of my favorite treats after dinner is putting like a um spoonful of cocoa powder like zero sugar
cocoa powder in peppermint tea it's so good oh that would be good because then it like tastes more
like fresh it's less uh-huh like i don't like chocolate peppermint like candy cane vibes or something
like that's gross to me and i also want people to know that it's not an
I know you feel this way too.
It's not about like, because it's calories or we're going to gain weight.
It's actually about how it makes you feel.
And it's like I said from that intuitive eating course I took.
Like I, it's crazy how much that makes a difference in your like mental clarity.
No, it's it's not about that at all.
I actually feel like when I eat sugar, oh my God, I'm such a dick for saying this.
But I'm like, I lose weight.
Like, no, I don't.
But you know.
But you don't like feel it.
I don't like feel.
But I know that it's not good for your brain.
Yeah.
And infections, like, live and eat sugar in your body.
Like, that's fucking gross.
It's crazy.
I mean, that's another one thing to cut out when you're sick is because your body fights infection better if you don't have sugar in your system.
It's, yeah.
I don't know if people know this, but I'm a doctor.
You are Bill Nye, the science guy, and it's science.
I'm Dr. Bill Nye.
Yeah.
Dr. Caitlin Nye.

I just want to do a little reflecting because I want to think back on the year that we both had.
If you can describe your year in three words,
words, what would they be?
Oh, I, oh, shit.
I know.
Okay, I'll try and think of mine first, then you can ponder on that.
But I'm trying to think of mine, too.
Mine was, like, mine was, in a good way, extremely busy.
So I would say busy, but also transformative because it made me want to slow down
and, like, actually take care of myself.
So I've been really focusing on, like, my mental and physical health.
and maybe I would say a little scary.
Wow, I felt that.
Yeah.
There's a lot of things that like came up that I was like the unknown and unsure of and got confused on and didn't know what the next steps were and like a little scary.
Girl, can I take your answers?
Like it's perfectly perfect.
I feel like how you felt too.
I feel like a lot of people felt that way this year.
Yeah.
I think, I think.
transformative is such a good word and enlightened I feel like but that's a recent feeling
that's what my word is like the 2023 I want to feel clarity and enlightened yeah I felt
very enlightened at the end of the year so you know feeling like having that come into this
new year is so perfect I will say it was hard
I had a hard year, whether that was because it was so busy or moving hardships in the
workplace.
No, you know, just like things were, like, it felt very hard for me last year, actually.
So some things in people's life when they're hard, you're like, I'm not ready to share
this yet.
So that can be a word that you don't have to explain.
Yeah, it just felt it was hard.
But hard in so many different ways, it's just crazy.
But yeah.
And then I would, I'd say also just, I guess, did I do, I guess, transformative?
Yeah.
Hard.
Busy.
Yeah.
Those are three.
And enlightened.
I want to keep that one because I truly feel like very enlightened at the end of the year.
So I feel like that, that's a great word for.
I mean, I saw that in you when you were here.
You were just, you seemed like you had shifted into a very enlightened place in life.
Yeah.
really starting not that you didn't before but like it's really important to you the relationships
you have yeah the conversations like that the stuff that matters in life is really becoming apparent
to you well i think like i've always always felt that way i've i've always been like the person
to never want to leave a party because like there's always someone you know having a deep talk
by a fire pit or something like i never want to be the one to be like hey got to go
like I stay for all the deep talks and I've always been that person and recently I've been like I need because I love that so much I need the I need to start being the person that brings those deep talks to conversations if I love them so much. Why can't I just start them and hold them and have dinner parties where you know you bring out these and you're like this is what we're doing tonight. Everybody put your phone in a basket and it stays in the house and or whoever needs to check their phone first has to pay for dinner.
You know, like, I love that.
Like, just, it's, yeah, I feel like that's.
At Cleo's wedding, we had bets with each other.
I was, it was awesome because, I mean, especially in certain places and times in your life
where you want to be the most present, like put away your phone.
And that could be around a fire pit or talking with friends or at a dinner or at a wedding.
Yeah, whatever that is.
Also spiritual.
Okay, but anyways, I feel like that's a word that I really.
What the better.
I have so many better.
Better, I have so many words.
Yes.
It was also very spiritual.
I feel like last year was.
Okay.
I love that.
I love that.
Okay.
Who came into your life in 2022 that you appreciate going into 2023?
Oh my goodness.
My friend Rachel.
Okay.
I have this with you kind of where like we just like clicked right when we met each other.
Yes.
And that's, I feel like.
you know, you're an easy person to talk to.
Like, I feel like we can kind of, I don't know,
we have that thing.
We're kind of similar.
So when I met you, I was like, oh, my God.
Like, I could tell this girl anything.
Like, that's not always the case, right?
And I really feel like that with you, obviously.
But I didn't meet you this year, so I can't say you.
Fair enough, fair enough.
But my friend Rachel is very like that.
She's just an incredible person.
And she's become a person in my life that,
I can't imagine, like, not knowing her forever.
And also just, I can't believe I haven't known her forever.
I just.
Oh, I know that feeling.
Yeah.
She just adds so much value into your life.
She is, she is truly, like, a sister.
Like, I just, I don't know.
I keep saying that because, like, I always wished that I had that.
And I feel like I actually have those now.
You're about to choose your sisters.
Yeah, I love it.
It's so cool.
And, yeah.
So my friend, Rachel.
She's beautiful and amazing and she's been there for me in such crazy moments of my life.
Like most of the time when you meet a friend, you don't like, you don't have crazy shit happening.
You're just like, we're going to go to this party.
Come with me here.
Come with me there.
She like came into my life in such a perfect time for me anyways.
She was probably like, dear God, this girl needs help.
But like she she's been there for me in some crazy times already in last year.
and it's just she's incredible that's i love a cherished friendship it's so important it's so yeah that's i
feel that i was trying to think of who came into my life but i'm like god i feel like i've had the
same friends since i was like two but uh my i got a new therapist who really it wasn't just talk
therapy anymore she like really dug into like my child self and i feel like i really
appreciate her and that she's going to add so much value in my 2023 i love that
I love that so much.
Okay.
What do you need to leave behind from this past year?
I want to say fear.
Yeah, that's probably mine too.
But I also want to be careful about that because I learned a lot about fear in that everybody has it, right?
Like everyone has fear.
It protects you.
That's why we have that feeling of fear.
Yes.
but leaving behind like the fear that doesn't make sense yeah no that's i totally understand
what you're saying because that's my thought process too i want to leave behind the fear of like
what am i supposed to be doing what should be happening where i should be at in life the shoulds
the shoulds in the woods and the coulds like that yes totally yeah i think like i think unnecessary
fear is what I want to leave in the past in that in that yeah because moving forward
focusing on facts and being able to like this is the facts and moving on with that I
don't know yeah no more shudding and cutting and wooding no yeah just facts just straight
hard facts cold hard facts okay switching gears for goals and intentions into 2023 because I'm again
write like we said writing it down
and some magical shit happens
and what I like to say
is if you write it down it'll come to town
I knew you'd like that
such an idiot I love it
are you giving you a pity laugh
fine I'm blaming it on my producer
she said it not me
I'm kidding I love it
I loved it if you write it down
it'll come to town that's what I always
it's literally perfect
I love it.
So when I write things down
and I always write it
as if it's already happened.
So what is one thing
that you will write down
as a business goal
as if it has already happened?
Or do you want to keep that to yourself
because I know how you are about that?
Ooh, no, I can, let's do this.
A business goal?
Yes.
White Lotus, season four.
I was just thinking.
Good.
That can be it.
Honestly, yeah, I think like White Lotus, season three or, wait, is it four?
Wait.
Well, if they're filming season three already, season four, if they're not season three.
Yes, yes, so let's go with season three because that would be like around the corner if they're doing it.
So White Lotus, season three, hire me.
Or I've already been hired.
Congratulations.
See, this is what you have to do.
You are so grateful now that you've already got that role.
And then how, so now say.
I feel so proud that I
I feel so proud that I
I don't even feel proud I'm just so excited to start
filming White Lotus season three
I just I'm so excited I can't wait
to get on set and meet my co-stars
yeah yeah
okay great
and then what is one personal goal
a personal goal
let's see
I think to just continue what I have been doing that has been working,
which is, because like I've already done a lot of like some work where I feel like I just
need to keep that going, whether that be the inner child work stuff I think is like so cool
and I'm starting to like really understand why that works and and focusing on treating
that person, that little person,
that beautiful little child.
Just like, as if she's here,
like, she's here, I got to take care of her.
And so I think that that would be that, yeah.
I get emotional whenever I think of myself as a kid
and if she was right beside me and I, like, think about what she would need.
I'm like, oh, God, I love you.
Same.
I know.
And we're so lucky that, like, we think about,
us as a kid and we love that kid a lot of people unfortunately do not or they get they get
scared or they get nervous thinking about it or it's yeah you know it's like a scary time i feel so
grateful that when i think of like my little child that i'm like oh i love her and she's the best
like she's just the best she was the freaking dork i love her
I do. I love my little awkward weird self that just didn't know what was ahead of her in life.
She was just so innocent and pure.
Yeah. And I think that's how people have to think of their inner child. Not like, I mean,
there's so many different things that could have happened in the past. But I feel like if you really just focus in on the fact that it's a child and go, wow, dork, love her, you know, or whatever.
just and the people who get scared or like it like can't go back and love that little that's
when you know you need to do the inner trial work that's so important it's i'm just yeah i know i'm
going to feel that way even more after i do my little retreat i'm so excited i'm i'm actually
like i'm going to skip in there and be like help me i i skipped right in right in with
You better believe the second I left or got into Nashville, I bought a cowboy hat
and I drove, got to Caitlin's house in my cowboy hat and my like, my like jacket that
looks like a freaking, I'm Lloyd Christmas and walking up the stairs of the freaking home.
The guns, you literally were a chic Lloyd Christmas.
It was perfect.
It was absolutely perfect.
Okay, last one.
What is something that you want to cross up your?
bucket list in 2023, something you want to experience that you're like, why have I not done that yet?
Ooh, get married?
That's great.
I think that's a great one.
Yeah, I guess get married.
Go to Italy.
I really want to go to Italy.
Have you never been?
I've been thinking about going to Italy my whole life.
And I've never been.
And Matt's been.
And he loves it.
And I just, I want to go to Italy this year.
You would love it.
I just yeah it's everything about it especially the lifestyle everybody is so happy nobody's on
their phones everyone's just enjoying good food that is like not processed and like it's just everything
I love it over there so much I wish I live there it's it's yeah I can see you thriving in Italy
do you want to come with me yes I will go I mean you don't even have to ask I will be there
I am perfect Italy I I belong there you do
I see it in your eyes.
I really do.
I don't think of what my bucket list would be in 2023,
but all my bucket list things have turned into what I want to do for my family now.
Like, I'm taking my mom to Italy.
I want to take my sister on a safari.
I want to take my dad to a golf course in Scotland.
Like they've become, but for me personally in 2023,
I feel like, oh, I just, I mean, every time I think about this,
because it's such a passion of mine,
and I truly, I feel like I want to turn my
off the bottom podcast into a TV show
and I want to like try and pitch that out
and like get it to be a thing.
Yes.
That's all my manifestation list, my bucket lists,
my journal, my goals, my intentions, my word for 20.
Yeah, that's all the things for me.
Oh my God.
I love that.
I used to remember going to be again after I came off.
Well, then I got dancing with the stars.
That was a whole different experience because it was so wonderful.
Yeah.
But I never wanted a show that was like,
around my life or like me.
Mm-hmm.
But now I do.
I'm healed.
Yeah. I'm back, baby.
I'm traumatized from television anymore and I'm healed and I'm ready.
Yeah, I am a sad.
She's back.
That's me.
Dude, that would be amazing and you should do that and you could do that.
Also, we're getting rid of kids and should, so you will.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
I will.
And I, you know what?
It feels so good now that I have my own TV show.
Isn't that insane?
It's beautiful.
It's a beautiful thing.
Also, I want to buy a horse.
Oh, my God.
You made me want to buy a horse, too.
You need to buy a horse.
I think I need to rescue a horse.
That's another thing I must do this year.
White Lotus and rescue a horse.
Yep, there you go.
Those are two really great goals for 2023.
I had so much fun doing this with you today.
Me too. This was the best.
It felt like
it felt like way too abrupt when you left
after I really got used to having you around
and then I was really looking forward to podcasting with you today
because I was like, oh good, we get to just have another conversation.
We had so many good conversations.
I know, I know. But now it's recorded for everyone to hear.
That's true. I'll fall asleep to this
without my phone by my head.
I really enjoyed this.
