Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdads Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Poulter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So whether it's your first time experiencing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times, you're going to fall absolutely in love all over again. So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen. This episode of Off the Vine is brought to you by Jenny Kane. So save the highlight reel for Instagram because when we're among Vino's, there's no filter. It's time to unwind. Here's your host, Caitlin Bristow. For those listening, what you don't know is Ben is in studio with Spade and Sparrow's duct taped to his hands.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Just like he always dreamt, a real childhood dream of his that he said on last podcast was on his bucket list to be, did you call it Edward Spade and Sparrow's Hands? Is that what it was? I did. Because it was usually, what was the old one? Edward 40 Hans. Forty Hans.
Starting point is 00:02:37 That was the college. The college. Yeah. And now you have been walked into the studio with Spade and Spade and Sparrow Hands and really committed to it. And he's not taking them off. No. He's just drinking.
Starting point is 00:02:48 I had to help him in the bathroom. There will definitely be footage on Instagram about this for those wondering. And also for people who are listening to Today's episode, but didn't get a chance to listen to the last episode with Ben, first of all, how are you missing an episode of Off the Vine? Go back and listen. It was released on September 6th. It's so inspiring and it explains why we are back here today. But basically, last time you were on the pod, we talked about how important it is to write down your bucket list. I can't take you seriously. I was just, this is my thinking face. I mean, I like it. I am going to get used to it. But for right now, I'm thrown off. But we talked about how important it. is to write down your bucket list and then actually do the things on it. Obviously, that's easier said than done. So we decided we would throw it out to social media, see what everyone's bucket list
Starting point is 00:03:36 items were, and then help someone accomplish it because we're just a few operas here, giving out cars. Oh, yes. Yeah. Just a few operas with balls of wine duct tape their hands. Well, just one of us. Well, but you know what? We can all dream.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So, okay, we did it. We threw it out. And we got a lot of submissions back that we wish we could get to all of them. but Ben, I know your biggest bucketless item was Edward Spade and Sparrow's hands. So how is this feeling for you right now in this moment to be in the middle of your bucketless item? Living my dream? Yeah. I mean, I feel great.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I don't know it's because I've already drank about half of both of these bottles of wine, but I feel good. Yeah, as you should. I feel really good. Well, I'm going to make you feel better. It's low sugar, low calorie, low alcohol wine. So really, why wouldn't you be feeling good? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I mean, there's a lot of things that are going in my favor right now. Yeah. The other thing is just I want to mention to the listeners. If you hear a couple of these clinks things, that's just the bottles of wine as I... Ben's teeth breaking on the bottle as he tries to maneuver. If you hear a large smash, it's because I got excited and clapped.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And then I'm soaked. And then you've got to lick up the wine off the table because nobody... Well, ramen might help me. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, mommies. He's under the table. Oh, my gosh. Don't give him any wine, imagine.
Starting point is 00:04:47 No, there's some girl on Love is Blind who fed her golden retriever wine and people throw out death threats. Okay, what about you, Lowe? Have you thought about any of your bucket list items since we were last year? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Okay. Okay, so I have a few. First one is I want to swim with an orca whale, not at SeaWorld.
Starting point is 00:05:05 You know what? Hey, if they're still at sea world, I'll take it. Really? I just really need an orca whale. Okay. But that's the worst case scenario because it's a nightmare there. But out in the wild or not even swim. You would die.
Starting point is 00:05:16 What? Swimming with an orca, aren't they? They're very dangerous. Yeah. They sure are. Yeah. And so am I. You still want us.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I too like to live dangerously. Yeah, I crave the danger or just at least see one in the wild. That would be awesome. You can do that back in our hometown. Yeah, you can. Alberta? No, Vancouver. There's not many orcas out there.
Starting point is 00:05:36 No, no. But out. There's a lot in BC, though. A lot of BC. So that's one thing. Also, I've never been to Napa. I've never done that. That just blows my mind.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Well, I've been best friends with you forever. One of those you could die and one you could just have a really nice time. Let's choose the nice time. But Napa with you, specifically. That's on my list of things to do. I like that. Well, we're going to work on the Napa one because don't go dying on me. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Okay. So, as I said, we went through a bunch of the submissions. We want to talk to a few people. We're going to bring a few on Zoom so we can get to know them a little better, meet them, and, you know, go from there. Ben, are you feeling up to this? I think so. I'm feeling pretty good, actually, as I said before. I'm actually, what I've realized is the more.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I drink, it's actually better for my hands because I can be more relaxed. Right. See how I can kind of put them down now more. Yeah, you can be a little more chill. Relax. I'm also You're getting handcrafts? No, no. No, it's pretty relaxed. I'm also at your service. If you are interested in the top of the film. I have to finish all of this, so I
Starting point is 00:06:43 hope that you can help me. Yeah, well, absolutely we will help you. So just let me know. We will help you. And I think we get into our first call. I think so, too. First up, we have Kelsey, who has never been to the ocean and wants to make it happen before she dies. So let's bring in Kelsey. I have so many questions for Kelsey. This is actually more common than you think.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I've talked to a lot of people that have never seen the ocean. We're so spoiled. Kelsey? Hi. Oh, hi. Kelsey. Oh, my gosh, just coming live from a cabin. Wait, are you in a cabin?
Starting point is 00:07:16 I live in a cabin. Wow. That's cool. Okay, so you're landlocked in a cabin. Tell me a little bit, tell me a little bit about yourself. Are you from your Nebraska, right? Yep. From there?
Starting point is 00:07:30 I grew up, yeah, grew up in a farm in central Nebraska. And then now we live about 45 minutes south. I married my high school sweetheart. Oh. Are you guys still married? Yes. That's a question. Wow, that is a good question.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Two daughters. Oh. Oh, my gosh. And I work for USDA. I do genome sequencing, microbiology, chemistry. Wow. She's an educated queen. You are an educated queen.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Oh, my gosh. Clean up in that cabin. That is, you are the queen of the cabin. Oh, my gosh. So tell me, you have never visited the ocean. You've never made it out to the ocean yet. Why is that if it's on your bucket list and you haven't done it, tell us why? It's a very good question.
Starting point is 00:08:16 And I don't really have an answer for you. just growing up we didn't really growing up on a farm yeah we didn't do vacations a lot yeah because there's no time to do yeah apparently according to my dad yeah um then i don't then my two older brothers moved away and now anytime that i have time to go on a vacation i'm always just visiting them and then my husband's family's from ohio as well and then we're just always visiting not fun places. Well, so it's not that you've never been out of Nebraska. You've just never been to places where you get to see the ocean.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Ben was just saying that this is actually something that he's come across a lot of times where people have not seen the ocean. And then Ben, have you witnessed it where you took someone to see the ocean? And what was their reaction? At first, I think I should just address the elephant in the room. Kelsey, the reason I have bottles wine duct tape. Oh, I were in 40 hands. There we go.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Yay! She knows. I like you. I like you a lot. Oh, that's awesome. Dare I say. You didn't even have to explain the elephant in the room. It was just like, of course, he's Edward. There's an elephant.
Starting point is 00:09:29 I know what that is. She knows what the elephant is. I didn't even notice. This is what I'm saying. It becomes very normal. I'm trying to break the stigma. Okay, well, I have another question. With your work and things that you do, are you able to take a vacation to go if you could
Starting point is 00:09:46 see the ocean? Yeah, I work for the United States government. So I have a lot of vacation time. Are you a spy? No. Are you a SBCA? She couldn't tell us if she was. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Okay. I've got a quick question. Yeah. Because I think that this is something that a lot of people experience where they have something that they want to do. It's not necessarily the most difficult thing to do, but it just seems that things always get in the way. And there is always feels like there's
Starting point is 00:10:16 obligations to other people that you have to fulfill, like your family or your other friends or the kids. So you end up just not being able to prioritize that one thing because, yeah, you want to do it, but, you know, there's other things that become more important. Yeah. Is that how you feel? Yeah. People would be disappointed that I didn't come visit them and I was selfish and went and saw
Starting point is 00:10:41 the ocean that I would like to do. Pretty spot on. It's not selfish. And you should, like, if that is something on your bucket list that you want to do, that's something that we could possibly help with. I feel like that's the least selfish thing. That's just, or if it is selfish, who cares? Because we should do selfish things in our life that make our hearts fall and happy. I like being selfish.
Starting point is 00:11:01 I like being a little selfish. Hey, the heart is the most selfish thing in your body because it takes all the blood from all the other organs and vessels. I heard this on a thing the other day. And I was like, I'm going to use that. But now I'm not delivering it properly. But the heart wants what it wants. your heart wants to go to the ocean. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:18 What ocean? Any ocean? Or is there one specific? That's it. I love her. She's like the Indian Ocean. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Yeah. Right? Yeah. Well, Alicia, your producer, asked me the same question. I was like, I don't even, I never thought about it. Yeah. Because whenever I think of ocean, I think of Mexico.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Yeah. We're like, I have to get a passport, which I don't have. And then I have to get on a plane and fly somewhere. But then like, yeah. Why Mexico? I'm so curious. You didn't think of like, I don't know, California? Jamaica.
Starting point is 00:11:48 It's right next to it. You're thinking tropical destinations. Oh, yeah. But I never realized like, yeah, Texas is basically by the ocean. I could drive eight hours and be by the ocean. It's a Gulf of Mexico, I guess. I don't know. Well, let's get a good ocean.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Yeah. I mean, yeah. I think I just have one more question. So why is it that you want to see the ocean? What is it about it? Do you have a fear of it? that you want to conquer a fear? I think it deserves some respect for sure.
Starting point is 00:12:20 The dog is right here. Hi, Dougie. That's like my dog interrupts me all the time. I guess like I have traveled within the United States and I've been into Canada and it's just like I've done the rugged mountain thing and hiking and I have never laid like sat on a beach and just like drank a cocktail on the beach with white sand because we have beaches in Nebraska and it's not. What are they like?
Starting point is 00:12:46 Fun. Not great. Really? Gross, dirty. I would hope that actual ocean beaches aren't, I don't know. No, they really, I remember my family taking me to the ocean for the first time, and it was a big deal for us to dip our toes in for the first time in the ocean. And there's something magical about it. And like you said, sitting on a beach and just like, it brings you so much peace and then you feel so small.
Starting point is 00:13:11 And it's just like, it's beautiful. Oh, taking it edible. on the sand is one of my favorite things to do. Really? Yeah. Drinking two bottles of wine. Drinking two bottles of wine, taped your hands on the beach. It does give you perspective because when you, it reminds you how small you are.
Starting point is 00:13:26 And then it reminds you that your problems aren't as big as you might think because you just remember how big the world is how many people are out there. It's true. It does put things in perspective. It's very calming. It does. Yeah. That's what I imagine.
Starting point is 00:13:39 You don't have to imagine anymore because you know what? You're going to the ocean. We're going to take you, and we are going to let you see that big, beautiful ocean, and you are going to cross this one thing off your bucket list. Gosh, like, that's incredible. Yes. Really, you could have just said, no, we're not doing anything for you, and I would be totally content, but just, like, talking to you guys.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Oh. No, more than that. You're going to get on a plane. You're going to put your feet on the ground here. in California, and we're going to probably blindfold you. Yeah, we're going to blindfold you. You can't see where you're going, and then we'll reveal the Great Pacific Ocean at a pretty special spot.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Love a blind girl. Imagine if we take her to like Venice, it's like the worst beach to go right now. Wait, I love Venice. I live there. Oh, I'm sorry. I love it. It's a little rough right now. I actually can't wait because when you do like, like I want when you fly here to have the
Starting point is 00:14:36 windows down, don't look out at it. You can on the way home. You can't on the way home. Yeah. But you're going to land and you have to be blindfolded because you can see it in the car, whatever. But we want that one moment where you actually – and Ben has, like he said, a very special spot that we're going to take you and we'll blindfold you and you will see the ocean. And you can dip your little toes in and then you can look at it through the plane on the way home. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:01 And if we do the whole like kidnap thing when you get to LAX, when you put you in a bag and drive – just go with it. Just go with it. It's like taken. It's kind of a cool experience. That's also a pocket list item. We're also telling you it's a happy ending. You're going to be okay. Yeah, I promise.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Liam Neeson will save you. He always does. I'm just going to say it. Liam Neeson, he'll save you. He always does. We can't wait to meet you and take you to the spot. The thought of meeting you guys in person is very surreal. This Nebraska girl is blown away.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Well, I love it. You've worked hard. Your mom. You've done what you're supposed to do, like in your family's mind. in your mind. And you've never really done something as simple as go to the ocean for yourself. And we're just excited to be a part of that experience. That's great.
Starting point is 00:15:53 You're so cute. Well, thank you so much. And obviously, we will keep in touch. And you just go marinate in this good news. See you in the sand. Yeah. Get a pedicure. My toes are gross right now.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Get a pedicure and then ruin them in the sand. Okay, go tell your family. And don't feel guilty about it. And cheers. Yeah. Cheers. I have Miller Light. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Oh, I love you. I freaking love it. I thought I loved you. Now I just know. Yeah. Now I know. Yeah. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Cheers to you. We'll see you soon. Thank you so much. Okay. Bye. Bye. That's awesome. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Okay. Oh, she's crying. She was? Yeah. She was wiping her tears. That was. Oh, I don't. did feel like she was trying to hold, I feel like she's the kind of person that, like,
Starting point is 00:16:43 didn't want to show too much emotion. She is having a meltdown right now. Oh, what a honey. We are we all going to do this? Yeah. Yeah. Wow. You're going to pick her up in that black truck and just put a bag over.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Oh, you know about the truck. Are you talking about my dad's truck? No, it was just because we're kidnapping her. Got it. Yeah. I felt you were that type of guy. Yeah. Big bitch energy with the truck.
Starting point is 00:17:09 I do butcher it up in a truck once in a while. Well, bring the Miller lights. This is going to be fun. That would be cool. That was, wait, that's really sweet that she was holding in her emotion. Yeah, you saw her like she wiped her tear at the end. That's really sweet. I think that's very, a lot of people are going to feel like that.
Starting point is 00:17:24 That they had, that they always, she always puts other people first. She's a mom. She was married her high school sweetheart. She was working for a farm, which is a lot of work. Working for a farm. Delivering calves and, you know, farm life. Farm life. Exactly. And when you do.
Starting point is 00:17:40 that your entire life you feel like when you do things for yourself that it is selfish but as you said it's actually service because you can't take care of people around you if you don't take care of yourself it's so true she'll become a better mom just from seeing the ocean i'm that sounds silly but it really is true no it just i mean you you you you marginalize these things you think they're small you're like oh it's just like like okay i want to go the ocean it's not a big deal it's a huge deal it's a huge deal these small things there would give you life force and then you're able to be the person that you want to be all of these things are like they're like you're purposeless like instead of just like thinking about what's my purpose it's too overwhelmed
Starting point is 00:18:18 to try and figure out what your purpose is you make a list of all the things that give you energy that's your purpose list and there's no rules the only rules that's important to you so there's no one can say anything yeah about this is wrong or right or it's too small it's not you have to do these things because you got to serve yourself that's why I serve myself a drink about every 30 seconds Okay, so these days are getting, you know, a little bit chillier lately. And chillier, to me, is just cozier weather, okay? There's nothing I love more than getting a comfy, cozy. My favorite way to do that is with the little Jenny Kane.
Starting point is 00:18:50 It really is the go-to destination for all things cozy and classic pieces that will keep you smiling through the season and many seasons to come. Now, I've loved Jenny Kane for a couple of years now. My cashmere hoodie, it's just been with me through it all. It really set off my love for this brand and now I just love all their clothing. but recently discovered just how perfect of a destination it is for holiday gifts, too. So they actually have so many great things for the home. I actually bought a few things from them, too, like candles, blankets, rugs, decor. And for their classic styles for yourself and those on your list, you just have to check out their
Starting point is 00:19:24 cocoon cardigan, okay? It's one of their best-selling sweaters and their cashmere accessories. Love me some cozy socks and beanies. Starting point is 00:20:04 Okay, this one is super on brand for all. off the vine. Leanne's bucket list item is that she wants to visit wine country. Sounds like a line kind of people. Lo, this is very on brand with your bucketless item. So let's bring her in. Leanne? I don't think it's Leanne.
Starting point is 00:20:21 I think it's Leigh Ann. Oh. Hello. Leia. You can. It's Lea Anna. Oh, Leia Anna. Depends on the region.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Hey. People pronounce it different all the time. I'll take whatever. No, you own your. your name we'll pronounce it right how does it actually pronounce does it look weird to you no you look amazing nice is that those pink highlights pretty umbra hair yeah i love your hair thank you i'm a hairstylist so i have to have good hair oh that makes sense so you're a hairstylist and where do you live uh palm harbor florida so just like north of clear water oh my gosh
Starting point is 00:20:56 are you okay with the hurricane yeah we got so unbelievably lucky i mean we were supposed to get hit with it. And we got very fortunate that it went south of us where other people didn't get so fortunate. So, I mean, my heart goes out to all of them, obviously. Yeah. I'm very thankful that we were good. I actually evacuated up to Tennessee. Oh, did you? And I got home and there was a few branches down and that's about it. Wow. That's good. Well, I'm glad for you. I mean, obviously, like you said, not so great for others, but glad you're okay. And thanks for joining us today. Cheers to you. Ben. is um cheersing with two bottles of wine duct taped to his hands. Which one would you like?
Starting point is 00:21:39 I'll go with. I don't have any duct tape, but I do have. Yay! Well, cheers. Oh, that completes the trifecta. Now we got red, white, and rosé. That's perfect. And look what low brought me today.
Starting point is 00:21:49 It's a penis crystal. Rose quartz. Rose quartz. Yeah. So we are really on good vibrations. Okay, well, cheers to you. And I don't know if you listened to our last episode where we talked about being Edward 40 hands.
Starting point is 00:22:04 and Edward Spade and Sparrow's hands. So he committed to the role today. Get those in a shot. There we go. I could really. Yeah. Macarena. Dada, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da,
Starting point is 00:22:15 Hispanic Heritage Month. Whoops. Just about smash it on the channel. Could you imagine if you smashed it? Just get all the glass just away from me? Yeah. Get, you know what? Anything away from you except for the mic.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Okay, so tell us a little bit about yourself. You're from Florida. You're a hairstylist. What do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Well, so I'm actually from Tennessee. I moved to Florida. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:37 About like seven years ago now. But I really hang out with my doodle a lot. I go to the beach a bunch. I obviously love wine. And all things Bachelor. That's why I've been following you forever. That's awesome. How long?
Starting point is 00:22:54 Yeah. So I actually started watching The Bachelor. People like, so Juan Pablo season was my first season. Oh, yeah. Tough season to start. but still I was in college and all of my I was like it's so stupid like I'll never watch the bachelor like I know and then my good college roommates were all like they would have watch parties and they make food and like drinks and I feel like in my room studying and I was
Starting point is 00:23:18 like no I'm going to like be a part of this so I started watching then and I haven't missed a single episode no way and then it's like eight years yeah and then I've been one of the you know, since the very beginning. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. So, yeah, and I just, I really like traveling. That's, like, kind of like my goal right now. I want to travel as much as I can. I've had some really awesome opportunities. My dad's from Scotland. Oh, cool. So I've got to go over there a few times, but I've kind of realized, especially after COVID, there's a lot of beautiful things to see, like, like in the States and all that. So I've been trying to like work up the time and everything to be able to like kind of see some more stuff around here that's beautiful and yes it's kind of like
Starting point is 00:24:06 my focus right now working and then when I can get time take off and go see something you're a colorist a colorist or do cut color specialize in one or the other I do cut in color I definitely don't really prefer styling or makeup or perms I've done them all but I've gotten to the point now where I'm just like cut in color that's all I want to find again are people getting perms? Oh my gosh. Apparently it's coming back. My mom wants one. Oh, no. I know. I'm nervous. It damages your hair. Yeah, fries it. And it's also just not fun to do. Yeah, I used to do perms in cosmetology school. I had to do perms and it always smelled so bad. Okay, so your bucket list is that you want to go to wine country. Yes. We love that. We do love that. And we want to
Starting point is 00:24:54 know why. Why is that on your bucket list? Of all the countries, why the wine one? I mean, I get it. Well, like I said, I've been able to go over to Europe and see, like, where my dad's from and everything. And so seeing stuff stateside would be amazing. And realistically, the person who got me into, like, wine and everything was my mom. And she has really done, like, the most. And then I worked in fine dining. So I kind of got to, like, get into a little bit more. Yeah. But my dad's been really like struggling with health and everything and I got to go take him to Scotland before he is not really able to travel anymore. And my mom has been taking care of him. Yeah. And so me and her share this love of wine. And so like for me, I'm just like, if I could go to wine country and
Starting point is 00:25:45 like go with my mom and like share this experience, like she deserves it more than anything. And it's like a bucketless item. So like for me, I'm like, take my mom and make her happy. Also make my life happy because I can drink wine and just be in the most beautiful part. of California that I've heard would be like such an amazing thing just to like mark off my list and like memories to be made like just overall I feel like it would be the best time ever yeah that sounds nice I really like that that you know I think that sometimes we don't think about asking our parents like what they want to do you know and then when you when you actually ask them it's not as may not be as hard as you think and then you get to share something that really
Starting point is 00:26:26 you'll remember forever yeah and your parents is obviously see so much for you. And now you finally get to the point where you actually get to turn that around and help them. I think that's a cool thing. Like I asked my parents and my mom wanted to go to London. So I took her to London. My dad always wanted to go to New Orleans to listen to jazz music because she's never been
Starting point is 00:26:45 loves. He's like a fiddle player. And so we tried to go. We had a trip lined up with my best friend growing up and his dad. And then COVID hit and we couldn't go. So we just put it back on the calendar for March of next year. But I think it's a great thing for everyone to ask their parents, like what's on their list and you know it just if anything it opens a really good conversation with them about
Starting point is 00:27:05 what they want you know so i think it's cool that that's on your list you're tight-knit family to do it with your mom yeah well my mom was definitely a little jealous when i got to go to scotland with my dad yeah and she has especially like his help has definitely declined a little bit more recently and so she's been putting like all of her time and effort and to taking care of him and so i think it would be very sorry my dog's jumping on me everyone's dogs are I have ramen here at our feet, so it's dogs are always welcome on off the vine. But yeah, so I think my mom, she's definitely, she's mentioned to me in conversations that like, I think that with my dad's help declining, a lot of people put a lot of focus on him, which I understand because I've done that as well.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Like we want to spend our time and like whatever with him. But with her like kind of putting all of the kids and everyone first, like it was so nice to like just do something and be like, she has no idea that I'm even like talked about this or this is something that's my like it's something that I want to like do for her like it is something that she would probably cry first and foremost but she like she deserves it more than anything and I think that her spending all of her time like focusing on all of us like somebody's got to like kind of spend a little bit of time and effort on her as well and she deserves it more than anything oh it's so sweet that is sweet well you know
Starting point is 00:28:28 you and your mom are going to wine country I was like should I do this while she's taking a sip of red wine we're going to take you guys you're going to wine country you're going to wine country we want to be part of making that little bucket list item
Starting point is 00:28:48 happen and I mean I don't know if you know me but I have a wine label that's taped to Ben's hands and so I frequent I frequent Napa quite often and I think that would be really cool to be a part of that.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Oh, my, beautiful nails, by the way. I just see my mom's reaction. Is she there? Bring her on. I'm not my house. Can you record it when you tell her? Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:29:16 There's no chance I'm not going to record it. Yeah. All of the venos, I know if anything ever happens, I'm so, like, into it. Like, if something were to happen like this and I don't get the reaction, And I would be disappointed. So I've got to share it with everybody. I can't wait to see it on the Facebook group.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Oh, it'll be in there. I don't know. I'm going to have to do something. Yeah, you have to. Gender reveal, but like, just go full out. You should see the gender reveal that Ben did with our friend Dave. That was hilarious. I want to post that on off the vibe.
Starting point is 00:29:51 You may not recognize me in it because I just, I have regular hands. Yeah. Just regular boring. All the time. Yeah. Just regular boring hands. Regular boring hands, yeah. This is, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:02 But we did, so my sister made the mistake of giving me and Dave, my friend, full creative control over their gender reveal. So we did a gender reveal obstacle course on the beach. So I dressed up as the, as the baby girl, and Dave dressed up as the baby boy. And we had a full set of obstacles we had to go through. There was, like, bringing the egg to the sperm, which was an egg carrying the egg. And there was LaMau's sit-ups. putting a diaper on someone else there was going through the fallopian and they were like
Starting point is 00:30:31 competing against each other during the whole thing and then whoever got to the finish line was the gender was the gender so creative and they were like fighting so then you think it was going to be like the girl and then Lingwood would come in at the end and take him down and then the boy would run through and it just like switch back so everyone was like ah ah ah it was like turned into an action movie where a lot of people don't know this but actually we both had this is so over the top but this is what happened so I'll say it we both had blood capsules like from theater in our mouths because we turned it into a full fight scene in the end so I punched so it got very intense very quickly where at the end right by
Starting point is 00:31:07 the finish line we got into a full action movie fist fight and I punched Dave and he spat blood everywhere and then he was holding me back so it got very very if you haven't been able to tell he commits to the role like two aggressive sperm's fighting it out yeah that's exactly what happened in a very aggressive rosé and a very angry white. I can't tell I'm picturing all of this because I only know you
Starting point is 00:31:31 with wine bottles on your hand so I'm picturing this whole thing going down with you punching him. That's even more intense. Yeah, that's just real blood from the broken glass. Well, we're excited to make this happen for you guys and I mean,
Starting point is 00:31:44 we'll obviously stay in touch, but go tell your mom, go record her reaction and then we will be in touch with you to figure out all the logistics. I can't wait. I will be posting it soon. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:54 I'm not to figure it out. Like, I want to realistically call her right now and tell her, but I'm like, you know, you got to record it. Make it a production. Go up to the door and I'm curious, what do you, what are you most excited about and what do you think your mom is going to be most excited about? Yeah. Well, one, I'm so excited because, like, I told you guys, she's going to cry. She's going to freak out. And she deserves, like, the best time, but also, like, I love wine.
Starting point is 00:32:20 I love traveling. So doing that with my mom is going to be amazing. but like her like she doesn't get like a lot of this very often she's always taking care of my dad or the grandkids not my kids yeah my siblings kids yeah like she's always doing all that so for her just to like let loose and like be able to go like and wine is her favorite so like her like just going to go wine tasting and wine country like me and her like oh my god she's gonna lose her mind she's gonna absolutely lose it i can't wait this is exactly what she needs right yeah and it's like something obviously nobody will ever like that's you'll remember you'll remember
Starting point is 00:32:55 remember this forever and it'll be just the highlight of your life. Yeah, it's going to be amazing. Can we? I cannot say thank you enough and I'm sure when I post my mom's reaction, you'll get a little bit of that because she's going to, she's going to think I'm lying. That's right. When I post it, I say it now, she's going to be like, no, this isn't true. I'm like, it is.
Starting point is 00:33:17 That's, I told my mom for her birthday this last month that she's going to, that where I'm going to take her to Italy and she like was in disbelief. And in the middle of the night, she like came up in. like woke me up and whispered she's like are we really going to italy it was so cute it takes some time to process but yeah we we can't wait to see you and can't wait to make this happen oh thank you so much i can't like thank you's not even enough but it is go enjoy the rest of your day and that red wine better be spayed and sparrows of course it is right answer okay cheers cheers cheers cheers
Starting point is 00:33:54 Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. Bye. She was great. Yeah. So great. What great Vinos. Well, I thought it was Vinoes. It's whatever they want. It's like, well, off the vine.
Starting point is 00:34:07 It's whatever they want. It's off the vine. So it's vinos, but also wine drinkers are called vinos. So it's. Got it. Yeah. But that's going to be really nice for them. I love that she's, I was hoping that she was doing it for her, one of her parents.
Starting point is 00:34:21 Yeah, that was perfect. Yeah. Perfect. We were talking about that, how, like... It made it even better. Because if it was like, I'm just a fan of wine, we need more here. Yeah. Give us a mom or a dad or something.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Hit it home with more than just liking a good tasting menu. I can't wait for that reveal. Me too. Oh, her mom is going to freak out. I feel like her mom's just probably like a sweet angel, too, who just would never expect this. Same thing as the last one. It's like this mom's just doing... They just give, give, give, give.

Shelby had a liver transplant nine years ago and she would love to meet her
Starting point is 00:37:42 donor's family, which is incredible. We would obviously love to help her do that and get in touch with them. So let's bring on Shelby so we can learn more about her, too. Hi. Hi, Shelby. How are you? Good. It's so nice to meet you guys.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Nice to meet you, too. I can't wait to hear your story and talk to you about this because we remember reading this on our last podcast, which obviously you probably heard us talking about. So your transplant was nine years ago. You look really young. How old are you? I'm 30. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Wow. So 21. Yeah, I was 21 at the time. Yes. You look so great. Yeah, you do. Was this something that you knew you would have to have one day or was it out of nowhere? Totally out of nowhere.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Wow. Yeah, so what happened was I was 19 at the time. You know, I was a sophomore in college, just, you know, living the life, having, you know, my fun college experience. and I ended up getting really sick and I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and while I was in the hospital the doctors came out and they said hey you know by the way your liver is also failing and you're going to need a liver transplant wow and I remember thinking at the time like I had I mean I had no idea what I was in for I just kept thinking like oh no big deal have a surgery like get a new liver everything will be totally fine.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Yeah. You know what? It is what it is. It's Taco Tuesday, get a liver. That just shows how positive your mindset is. Wow. Yeah, exactly. So yeah, I went back.
Starting point is 00:39:25 I was in the hospital for about a week. And I returned back to school. And I felt fine. Like, I was healthy. I had no issues. I, you know, my whole life, I was, I played sports. I was always healthy. And nobody in my family had ever had a transplant or any issue with their liver or anything like
Starting point is 00:39:41 that. um so i go back to school and just continue having fun doing the college thing and then i go home for the summer so um my college was up in bellingham washington which is kind of up by the canadian border i'm from seattle so my school was about two hours away from home so i go back home for the summer and that's when things kind of went from like zero to one hundred pretty quickly i started getting really sick all the kind of symptoms of liver failure kind of just came in and the biggest one when you're sick what's liver failure is you get super jaundice and so that means you know your skin turns super yellow the whites of your eyes turn yellow um that's just one of the
Starting point is 00:40:25 biggest things on the outside that you can see what's going on with liver failure obviously there's kind of a long list of things that are happening inside so that was really difficult um so i went back to school in for my junior year and i remember my family, they were always super supportive. They were always saying, like, you know, you can take time off from school. Like, you know, you're sick. Like, we're super supportive of any of that. But I was the first one in my family to go to college. And so that was always a dream of mind to go to college and graduate and get my degree. And so I went back to school in the fall, my junior year. And that's when things really just got worse and worse. And it wasn't just
Starting point is 00:41:09 the inside and like my health but it was also I looked different so being around college kids and people hadn't seen me for like a whole summer um that's when I started getting you know really rude comments about how I looked and you know why do I look like that what's wrong with your eyes um you know just really just mean mean comments and it really took a toll on my confidence like I had never really had issues prior to that on you know the way I looked or my confidence or anything like that. Um, so it just kind of took me to like a really dark place. Um, because it wasn't just I was sick. It was, I was also going to school. And also when you are on the transplant list, you're just kind of on, on hold. Like, you're just waiting. And they didn't give you a set time of
Starting point is 00:41:58 like, this is going to be a year way. It could be infinite. Right. There's no plan. It's just you can get the call at any time, any day of night. And when you do get the call, you have to get your butt to the hospital like immediately there's no messing around yeah right and so you know I finished my junior year which was really rough just because I was super sick and I also remember thinking like maybe this is it maybe I'm not going to get a liver in time so it was just really hard to think that I didn't really know what the future you know held yeah and so I finished the junior year and went back home for the summer. And that's when I got the call. It was August 10th, 2013, so two months after I had turned 21. I got the call and the liver ended up being a perfect match.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Wow. And during that time, like my junior year, I had actually gotten the call two times prior saying, you know, we have a liver for you. But in the end, it didn't work out. It wasn't a perfect match. Imagine that. Yeah. That's why it didn't work because it wasn't a perfect match for you. Correct. It wasn't a perfect match. Is that like because of the blood type or how do you know that the liver matches?
Starting point is 00:43:18 It's like a lot of things like the size. And I don't really remember specific details because it's been so long. But I do remember, you know, you get your hopes up. You get excited. And then I can't imagine that. Yeah. That is what a roller like an emotional roller coaster to go on with like you get that call. And then your whole family is like,
Starting point is 00:43:37 like, you know, adrenaline's going and then, okay. So, for that to happen twice. Yeah, twice. Yeah. So then, yeah, August 10th, that's when I got the call. And I remember being in the hospital, it was me and my dad. And I kept telling him, like, you know, it's not going to happen. You know, what do you want for dinner tonight?
Starting point is 00:43:57 Like, I didn't believe that it was happening. And so it wasn't until they were wheeling me into the surgical room that they were like, that I was like, oh, this is actually happening. And what is the recovery process of that like? So that's another thing. Yeah, the recovery process is pretty rough. Like I, my surgery was 10 hours and I was in the hospital for 10 days. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:27 And so when I got out of the hospital, it was like mid-August. So I went back to school to finish my scene. You are a hero. Holy shit. I would have been like, school. Holy. I'm over it. You are amazing. Sorry to cut you off, but holy shit. Okay, keep going.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Yeah, so I went back to school a month later and I had to like beg the doctors because they were not having it. They were like, no, you're taking a quarter or two off. There's no way you're going back up to school. Like, it's just not going to happen. And I remember I would go into the doctor
Starting point is 00:44:59 because I was going in like weekly for checkups and things like that. And I would just be crying. Like, please let me go back to school. like it's my last year. I know I can handle it. And so it wasn't until like maybe a week or two before school started that they were like,
Starting point is 00:45:15 okay, fine, you can go back to school, but you need to take a lighter class load and you still need to come down to the hospital once a week so that we can monitor you and things like that. So I was still, I made it so like my classes, I think were Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and I would
Starting point is 00:45:31 go to class on Monday, drive two hours home after, go to the doctor on two and then drive back up to school and do my thing. So it was a lot of, you know, back and forth for a while. How did you do that? Like how did you, how were you able to concentrate and go through that well, even before the surgery and after the surgery?
Starting point is 00:45:54 Like you were obviously that passionate about what you were doing, but like physically and mentally, how did you do this? You must be really passionate about whatever you were studying. What was it? No, I was not passionate about. what I was saying. But then did you want to go back because the assholes that were making fun of you? I don't want nothing to do with that.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Well, I think I wanted to show them like, hey, I'm back. Yeah. It was really just being the first one in my family to graduate from college. Like, that was something I always dreamed about. And so it was really just making my family proud. I didn't want to ever disappoint anybody. And I really just wanted to make sure that I achieved that goal since I had been planning that my whole life and I wasn't going to let you know liver disease and liver failure
Starting point is 00:46:42 ruin that I would let like a stubbed toe ruin that for me like I would I have a migraine and I'm dropping out of school yeah like I am like so inspired by you like I that well that is just incredible how are you I hope you feel just so incredibly proud of yourself yeah yeah I do feel feel really proud I'm really grateful and thankful for like the whole experience it definitely made me a stronger person. And, you know, the whole time while I was sick, I kept thinking, like, even though I didn't know what was going to happen, but I knew that I had so many things to look forward to just because I was so young.
Starting point is 00:47:20 I knew I had my whole life ahead of me. You know, I wanted to get to graduate, get a good job, get married, have kids, you know, do the whole thing. And so, yeah, fast forward to now I'm 30, happily married. We just had our baby girl. Oh, great. Congratulations. Oh, thank you.
Starting point is 00:47:41 So, yeah, without my, my donor and my donor family, I may, might not be here and, you know, now my daughter wouldn't be here. Holy. Unbelievable. Shelby, you are incredible. You are the most incredible.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Oh, and have you ever been in touch with your donor? No. So what happened was probably within a year after my transplant, I wrote them a letter. But the way it works is you have to give the letter to your doctor because everything's anonymous. But to this day, I still think about it. Like, did the letter get sent?
Starting point is 00:48:18 Maybe it got lost. Like, I don't, because I never heard back. What did you say? Yeah, what did you say the letter? I don't remember. I'm sure I could find it somewhere because I wrote it on like a word doc. Yeah. So I don't really remember.
Starting point is 00:48:32 I know I kept it pretty short and sweet. I didn't, you know, write something super low. long. But the only thing that I do know about my donor is that they were helicoptered over from Spokane, Washington, which is eastern Washington, to Seattle. But that's all I know. I don't know anything. What would you say to them if you could talk with them now? Yeah. I mean, I don't think that they're here anymore. But if I could talk to their family, you know, I would just want to say thank you first of all i would definitely you know want to hug them and just get to know them and you know learn more about who my donor was and you know just i just i don't even really
Starting point is 00:49:17 have words really because now that i have my daughter and i look at her i think of my donor just because they gave me the gift of my new liver and then they gave me the gift of my daughter yeah it's like the gift of life literally Right. Yeah, definitely. So I wonder, so they don't know your name and you don't know their name and you don't know if they're here anymore. You just know that their family is still around and that they flew in from Spokane. Like, how do we find them? Yeah, I don't know. I mean, they know if they got the letter.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Yeah. They know my name. Okay. But that's really that's the extent of it. Yeah, they would just know your name. Would you send them another letter? Yeah. could you? Yeah, I always said, because it's been nine years. Next year, it'll be 10 year,
Starting point is 00:50:08 my 10 year anniversary. So I always said, like, I would write them another letter at my 10 year mark. And now that I have a daughter, I feel like there's more that I could, you know, thank them for. So I definitely would love, I definitely plan to write them again. But I also, I know it's such a sensitive subject. I don't really know if they would want to hear from me or, you know, any like that. Oh, I think. I didn't even think of that. I feel like they would love to hear. Well, I don't know. Well, it's different. If it's like we're an organ transplant, this is a loved one of theirs that decided to do that. If it was different, like, I get like a sperm donor not wanting to do that. Right. Right. Hey, I was just trying to get, you know, 50 bucks for a load. 75 now. 75 now. Yes. 100 if you don't have the vaccine, apparently. Amen. Okay. So anyway, I feel like they would probably want to because that's like through something so tragic and. hard like that they went through a loss clearly they lost a loved one something beautiful came of that and that person clearly i mean stated that they wanted to be an organ donor so i mean i'm not speaking for them i don't know but it could be a beautiful thing for them to see you know your life now
Starting point is 00:51:18 yeah yeah that's true and i mean i know that like the chances of me meeting them are probably pretty slim or rare but at least i don't think so i am like such a believer in like i'm like no meant to meet them and that's why you're here right now and this is like I feel like things are meant to be and do you have to because it would do you say August is that when your surgery was yeah August 10th August 10th so do you have to wait till 10 years to write them a letter because I yeah you don't have to write them anytime I just have to give it to the doctor yeah how old is your daughter she's she's born in July of this year so she's two months oh my gosh what's her name Her name's Emma.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Emma. It's my sister's name. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. That's amazing. I feel like, yeah, I feel like they would want. I think it's worth writing the letter. I think it's so worth writing the letter.
Starting point is 00:52:18 Yeah. Yeah, I probably will. I mean, I feel like, you know, I said, said my bucket list item was meeting my donor family, which I know is slim chance, but at least I also feel like another bucket list item is being able to share my story and hopefully help someone out there that is going through something similar or knows somebody. Yeah. And then also the other side of it, like, hopefully this will get people to sign up, you know,
Starting point is 00:52:45 to be an organ donor that aren't. I feel like not a lot of people talk about it. And I know for sure, like, when I had heard about, you know, liver transplant and organ donation, I had no idea what any of that stuff. Or the impact it could have. Right. And yeah, there was no story tied to it. or, you know, anything like that.
Starting point is 00:53:03 Well, thank you for sharing your story and being open about it. And I think it's beautiful that you want to just hug the family that helped you, you know, like survive and then be able to bring new life into this world. I think that's so beautiful. I think you should definitely write the letter because I don't know, why do you think it's such a slim chance of meeting them? Well, because also I don't know where they are. Like, they could be out of the country, you know, I don't know where they're living now.
Starting point is 00:53:31 So I just feel like that, there's that aspect. And then also, too, like, you know, maybe they just don't want to meet me. I don't know. No. I want to meet you in person. I'm like, I'm so happy that I met you. Well, I, we encourage you to write the letter because we would, I mean, anything we can do to help that happen, we would love to. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Yeah. And also just contribute to you spreading the message of, you know, the awareness. of how important it is for people to consider, you know, checking that box to donate your organ. And so what would you say to somebody that maybe has thought about it, but maybe, you know, hasn't had the time or is not sure. Or is thinking about it right now like me. Exactly. And do you know what you have to do to make it happen?
Starting point is 00:54:22 Yeah. So it's actually really easy. Like when you, you can sign up, if you have an iPhone on like the help app, you can sign up on there. Oh, no way. Yeah, I can do it that way, which is like a national registry, but then to be like in your state, you go on like the DOL. So like if you renew your license or something like that, you can sign up. But yeah, I feel like if I had met someone that, you know, was maybe on the fence about it or, you know, wasn't sure I would just, you know, share my story with them and explain like, hey, if I didn't get the liver, I might not be here. And so and I'm just. And I'm just. one story out of like thousands of people that have you know similar stories and also it's not just livers that people are waiting for it's you know kidneys and hearts and there's all sorts of things that people are waiting for so um you know i would just tell them that it's
Starting point is 00:55:19 it's worth signing up for yeah my gosh well i'm inspired i'm literally doing that as soon as we can't think you can do that on your health i so the little heart app on your yeah yeah i always just use that to see how many steps I took in a day now. I'm like trying to delete that off my phone. That's it. You can't do it. Yeah. But now I'm going to sign up to give an organ or two.
Starting point is 00:55:40 Gosh. At least. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you for coming here and sharing your story. And we would love to help, honestly, in any way that we can, even if it's just getting your message across to other people or I don't know, but we really want you to write that letter.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Yeah. You write the letter. If you commit to writing the letter, we will commit to getting you there if they respond. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I for sure will. Yeah. Yeah, please stay in touch with us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Yeah, thank you so much. It was really great to meet you guys, and I'm so happy that I was able to share my story on here. I love your soul. Like, I don't know what you. I just love you as a human. It's really strange, how connected I feel too. Okay. But yes, we will keep in touch and let us know when you write that letter, and we will help you in any way we can.
Starting point is 00:56:28 That sounds good. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Go hug your daughter. Oh, gosh. That's beautiful. Oh, hug little Emma.
Starting point is 00:56:38 Yeah. I know. Oh, that's amazing. Wow. Oh, my gosh. Wow. She had, she was set some special energy there. That was pure.
Starting point is 00:56:47 My day week is changed from her. Yeah. Like just her. Yeah. Wow. Absolutely. I'm actually getting through this pretty well. You're going to feel.
Starting point is 00:56:59 weird when you don't have those taped to your hand. I know. Like, who am I? Sort of now it's my identity. I'm worried about you. I also like how we didn't bring it up on the last call. We're just like, it's like, no, this is just Ben. Period.
Starting point is 00:57:11 There's nothing interesting or unusual about him. We would get like used to it. And we did and I forgot that she was probably like, what the is he? No, because she probably listened to the last episode, obviously. So people know. People know. We don't have to.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Cheers. Cheers to yourself. That was really one of my favorite episodes. because that was like a really feel good. And it also makes me realize, like, how lucky I am for a lot of things in my life, you know? Wow, that was amazing. Thank you for always inspiring us, Ben, to do that. Well, thanks for having me back here, regardless of whether or not I got to drink two bottles of wine.
Starting point is 00:57:48 I think that they all, the, okay, now I'm just drunk. The other takeaway, I think, is like, I bet even if we didn't make these things happen for them, they would all do them. Yeah. Because sometimes we just need a little bit of a nudge. Yeah. And it's not as hard as we think to take that step. And just the fact that we called them and got them talking about it.
Starting point is 00:58:11 And that's why it's so important to talk about your dreams. Because if you don't, when you talk about it, you build accountability. And so by them sharing that with us and then with the world, they're just going to do it. Like she's going to go see the ocean regardless of we take them. Yeah. She's going to take her mom to the wine country just because now she's talked about it. Now it's real. Now she feels how important it is.
Starting point is 00:58:32 You could see it in her face, how important it is to her mom. That'll happen. She's definitely going to write the letter. Yeah. And so that's why you share your dreams. And also you put it out there into the universe. Like the fact that they put that out there and they just ended up on the podcast and that now things are going to happen.
Starting point is 00:58:47 Like that's what you get for putting things out into the universe. Yep. You've got to step through that discomfort. You've got to be vulnerable. And if you're not vulnerable, vulnerable, then no one can help you. Yeah. Cool. I'm so happy right now.
Starting point is 00:59:01 I am too. That last one really did it for me. Yeah. It was like a warm bowl of oatmeal. Oh. That's how I felt, which is tastes overnight oats. Yeah. Sure.
Starting point is 00:59:10 And over and steel cut. Porridge? Ooh. Okay. Cheya pudding? Yeah. Yes. More like a chia pudding.
Starting point is 00:59:17 That's cold though. I love it. Oh. Okay. A cold chia pudding. It sounds better to say a warm bowl of oatmeal. It just was like nice for the soul. I call it.
Starting point is 00:59:24 Cream of wheat, porridge, whatever the fuck. Chicken soup for the soul. There it is. I call it. I call it. A warm hug on a cold day. Yeah. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:59:33 A little Timbett. A little Tim Horton's little double double. A little Tim Snorton. They're good to get chicken noodle soup, I think. They really do. Okay, well, I know we did this last time, like, hoping to inspire people, but now I feel like that episode is going to inspire a lot of people to just put their, you know, bucketless items or hopes and dreams or things they want to do out there at least.
Starting point is 00:59:54 And to be okay with donating an organ, giving blood. Hell, I am. Saving a life. I'm literally signing up today to do that. The fact that you could do it from your phone, even though if it wasn't that easy, you should still do it. But like the fact that it's right in front of all of our faces. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:08 I don't think a lot of people now. No, and I think that's a great next step for anybody that feels stuck is like, one of the best things you can do when you feel stuck is help someone else. So true. Sign up, donate the organ, and then you know that you're saving a life. Like what, you know, that's this huge impact. That doesn't just impact, as you can see, didn't it just impact her. It impacts her whole family.
Starting point is 01:00:27 Yeah. Yeah. I think that's cool that last time we talked about the idea and the steps to make these things happen. And now people are taking action. And that's what this is about. This is about like take action. You can see that the steps aren't that difficult. All you have to do is book the flight, you know, write the letter.
Starting point is 01:00:47 Tell someone how you really feel. These are the things that stop us from doing these things that are important to us. And they're important. And you just have to take action. and that is it's it's it's very hard to tell people what you want right yeah it is because then you open yourself up to you're exposed it's like what's this what if people know this is what I want and I fail like yeah they can easily not come on this podcast and be like well what if I don't ever do that yeah yeah it's not easy but it's important because it actually moves you
Starting point is 01:01:19 forward yeah wow amen to moving forward truly our dreams and bucketless items Big or small. Big or small. Big or small. That's so true. Big, big challenge you're finishing these two bottles in the next three minutes. How much time do we have? Two more minutes.
Starting point is 01:01:33 My meter's going to run out. Yeah, you have one. Oh. Okay. Good. Driving with his hand. How are you going to? Wash myself later?
Starting point is 01:01:42 Yeah. Well, how are you going to pee? Well, that's, I probably have to. I was, I do. I was thinking that Lowe could help me. That's why I actually got the thumbs out a little bit. Oh, like he's going to hold your peeing while you pee? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:52 Yeah. But then I could. But then I could. But then I could. Pop it. But I could thank him with a little ear rub. Oh, perfect. A little lobe.
Starting point is 01:02:01 Now I'm just picturing that. Yeah. With the visual. Oh, my gosh. I love it. Well, for everyone that's still listening after that. Like, I can't. Please put out, continue to put out your, you know.
Starting point is 01:02:14 Well, I keep saying bucket list, but it's really just put out things that you want to do in your life before you die. Yeah. Yeah. I think you just, like, rethink what a bucket list is. It's not just, like, travel to Europe and sky. This guy, it's like, what is important to you? Yeah. Like, what would you regret not doing if you died tomorrow?
Starting point is 01:02:30 Right. You'd probably regret not signing up for the donor list. You'd probably regret not taking your mom or dad on that trip that I've always wanted to go. You'd probably regret not writing the letter, telling someone how you really feel. Like, those are the regrets that people have on their deathbed. Yeah. So if you're waiting for the right time, you're going to wait forever. So just do it.
Starting point is 01:02:48 That's a perfect way to end. It sure is. I'm Caitlin Bressow. I'll see you next Tuesday. Thanks for listening. listening to this week's episode of Off the Vine. Don't forget to rate, review, and follow on your favorite podcast platform. And we'll see you next Tuesday.
