You know you've heard me talking about Caldrea for a while now, and it is genuinely one of my favorite brands that I've recently discovered. Caldrea is a consciously crafted home and body care brand that combines thoughtful ingredients with amazing, amazing sense, making caring for ourselves and our homes a beautiful experience. And who doesn't want that? We all know that hand washing is super important, one of the most important things we can do. Even though I know how important it is,
Starting point is 00:02:15 I often dread washing my hands because, I don't know, it can leave my hands feeling dry and inconvenient. Plus, in the past, I haven't always been a huge fan of some of my hand soaps. so it's just not that enjoyable of a process, I guess. But now that I'm using products from Caldrea to wash my hands, it's become a much more enjoyable experience, and I actually look forward to washing them, because the smells are so good. My hands aren't dry after.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Caldrea's line of hand care products include both hand soaps and moisturizing lotions that are incredibly effective, thoughtfully formulated, and smell divine chef kiss. And they are available in some incredible sense, like ginger pomello and basil blue sage. And now that I use Caldrea's hand care products, again, my hands never feel dry. Plus, I get to smell my favorite scents. Like right now, I'm really into basil blue sage while I'm washing my hands.
Starting point is 00:03:05 It's such a better experience for me. You guys have to try these products out and get free shipping on orders of $50 or more when you buy online at caldraia.com. That's C-A-L-D-R-E-A.com. Visit caldrea.com and add wonder to your washing. We're doing with OTV Podcast One presents Off The Vine with Caitlin Bristow. Starting point is 00:03:44 Lots of wine. Get ready to shake things up. Here's Caitlin. Welcome to Off the Vine. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow today. I am speaking with a guest who's music and name. you've been hearing a lot of lately we last sat down this is crazy 2017 and since we last spoke some pretty incredible things have happened in her life and in her career she won the 2019
Starting point is 00:04:07 cma new artists of the year i heart radio music award for best new country artist cmt music award for breakthrough video of the year and that's just to name a few she released her sophomore album just this february and her current single i hope you're happy now with lea Bryce. It has over 1001 million streams. That's incredible. I knew this girl had big things come in her way and I can't wait to hear what she's been up to since we last spoke. Please welcome back to Off the Vine, Carly Pierce. Hello. Hi. How's it going? You have a little makeshift studio happening over there. What is going on? So I, you know, it's like this is not normal for us to be all stuck in our homes. And I figured that there really wasn't that many
Starting point is 00:04:55 rooms. I'm actually staying in Alabama near my parents because my mom, she just has a weak immune system and has really weak lungs. And I just wanted to be closer in case something were to happen. And there are no cute walls in the room or in the house that I'm staying in. So I Amazon primed some string lights in a cheetah bed sheet. So hung it up. Here we go. Oh, creative. That's amazing. I'm like, I've got a ringlight going on here for these meetings. And then I'm like, I have wallpaper, so that works. But you're obviously not in your own home. So you just did what you had to do. And I respect that. I respect it. So, yeah, everything's crazy right now. Is Michael quarantine with you there? Where did you say you are, Alabama? Yeah, we're in Southern Alabama. He is here, yes. And it's so funny because we're such different people. I honestly am so introverted. that I'm kind of fine with the quarantine other than not being able to be on stage
Starting point is 00:05:53 and he like day two was trying to FaceTime everyone he knew was walking outside like oh my God is anybody outside so he's not handling it very well. That's the same I think everybody thinks I'm such an extrovert because I do have like a big personality and I can be on but I actually
Starting point is 00:06:11 I'm a combination of both and I love the part where I can be an introvert so I'm also enjoying it I'm like, this is great. I'm like, I get to just hang out at home with the dogs and Jason all the time, like, fortunate enough to work from home. And like, I'm not going crazy yet. I'm not sleeping properly, but I'm not going crazy yet. I actually have not been sleeping while myself, which is weird. I don't know why. Are you usually a good sleeper? Yes. And I mean, I'm up like four times a night, like up every couple hours. And I'm like, what does happen? I've never been.
Starting point is 00:06:48 somebody who struggled with sleep. That's so funny that you say that. Yeah, I'm the exact same. I don't know if it's because our whole schedules are just thrown off so we don't really have a routine so then when we go to sleep, like I don't know if that's something to do with it, but I'm the exact same way. I'm just either tossing and turning or up like wide awake at least three or four times a night. Yeah, I, I feel that. Yeah, that's weird. It's not fun. Anyway, like I said earlier, a lot has happened since we've chatted last, you've been busy. Can you talk a little bit about how life has changed since, like in two years, how much is your life changed? Oh my gosh. I mean, so many things. Obviously, I started dating,
Starting point is 00:07:32 got engaged, and got married. That's a pretty big part of my life. I worked on my second record. Obviously, a lot of things in my career have really moved forward and just really gotten to do a lot of things that like you you dream of as a kid and never think that it's going to happen and um went through a really awful devastating uh last fall with my producer uh busby who passed away within eight weeks of terminal brain cancer i mean it's just been it's just been a lot of things going on but it's just been uh it's been awesome like never in a million years i think i to fit all that in two years. Right. Yes. I always think that way too. It's crazy how much can happen in a short period of time, good and bad. And just like your life can just change so quickly.
Starting point is 00:08:26 And I remember last time we spoke, you were saying that a lot of people were kind of discouraging to you because they thought your music was too classic and not the current of, you know, the trendy music, which is the whole reason I actually love your music. But does it feel good now to have so many people enjoying that classic country that's inspired you so much. Yeah, it's so funny to think, you know, I moved to Nashville 10 years ago and everybody told me, oh, you've missed your time, you should have been here in the early 2000s or in the 90s. And I'm still, you know, yes, have I evolved and I've gotten better at my craft and I've become a better songwriter and things like that, but I'm still the same girl that's being compared to the 90s girls and the early
Starting point is 00:09:10 2000. So it's like there was a place for me. It just wasn't the right time. Yeah, exactly. And just so many people are enjoying that vibe you have now. So I love seeing that. And let's obviously talk about your husband because I remember talking to you when you guys, I think it was when you got engaged. I said congratulations. You were like, it's crazy. I just, I just knew. Like you knew when you met him. So how did that all go down? I mean, we, I knew him through the years. He had a record deal before me. So I would see him out and kind of not talk to himself. I was like, oh, Michael Ray's so hot. But that was kind of like my first thought of him. And then we started playing radio shows together when every little thing was out. And I don't know how to explain it because it sounds
Starting point is 00:09:56 super creepy, but the only way that I do know how to explain it is I was dating somebody for going on four years at this point and was looking at this person that I'm playing these radio shows with thinking about them in a way that I shouldn't have been when I didn't even know them. And I'm looking at him and I'm like, oh my gosh. And my keyboard player at the time was one of my best girlfriends. And I, after the show, she was like, why are you being so weird around Michael? I was like, I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:24 And I remember telling someone, even if I never date Michael Ray, I have to break up with this person because I have stronger feelings and more thoughts for this person that I don't even know within somebody that I've been with for four years. And so, like, that was, like, a big moment for me. And I'm kind of shy. And so I just started messaging him on Instagram, like, let's be real. And we talked for, like, a few months. And we hung out one night. Like, we agreed to hang out one night. And that was kind of it. That's amazing. Because I remember, like, when you guys first started dating and seen it on Instagram, and I was like, key they're so cute it like hurts my being like it's like oh my gosh everybody wants that kind of love
Starting point is 00:11:08 and then i'm like telling myself okay it's probably the honeymoon face you guys are still that freaking cute like uh you guys compliment each other just like on each other's posts or how you are and like i mean obviously all we see is social media but you guys are still so freaking cute what is the secret i mean i think like finding someone that is your friend and also can support your, you know, we both grew up the same way of wanting to do this for a living and grew up loving the same kind of music. He loves the classic country and bluegrass and he loves like the real, the opera and all of those elements. So I think it, we just, our hearts are kind of like they bleed the same way if that makes sense. Yeah, no, that makes total sense. You guys have like
Starting point is 00:11:57 the same passions and you do. You seem like you can just spend, I mean, not that you're, I'm sure your has its ups and downs because everyone does but it just seems like you guys have like a strong foundation and like you get along as just friends and and as lovers I felt really weird to say it's true it's true yeah that's what it seems like and it comes through all right as always vinos thank you for listening to today's podcast made possible by our friends at briars ice cream You probably know Breyer's as America's number one ice cream brand known for their natural vanilla ice cream. Super delish. They've actually been making ice cream for over 150 years now, so I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I've talked to the podcast recently about how I'm loving their new line of treats that won't undo your healthy eating. And that's Breyer's Carb Smart. So if you haven't tried it yet for yourself, get on it. Breyer's Carb Smart is a line of sweet treats with three to five grams of net carbs per serving. The full carb-smart range has three grams of fiber or more per serving and 150 calories or less per serving. And it's the perfect companion to your low-carb lifestyle and it comes in tubs and bars in yummy flavors like caramel swirl, chocolate-covered almond, vanilla, and peanut butter. I mean, anything peanut butter, I'm like, yes, yes, please.
Starting point is 00:13:21 The peanut butter flavor has clearly been my favorite go-to lately when I need something sweet at the end of a meal or even just, you know, a snack in the middle of the day. It legit tastes like it should have so many more calories than it actually does, which is amazing because I get all the taste, the flavor of the creamy peanut butter, but none of the guilt of eating something that undoes all of the effort I made that day. So try Briars Carb Smart for your next sweet tooth craving available at all major retailers, Walmart, Target, Kroger, Amazon Fresh, and more. Go to briars.com slash find to get a coupon to try it today.
Starting point is 00:13:54 so you guys even do a duet on the new album um do you love working together too or is that because i love jason so much but like sometimes if you work together with someone you have and you do have different personalities or different things um sometimes that can be difficult so do you guys find any challenges or do you do love doing that together i mean we're we're very different artists i think so i think there are challenges to find something that's going to fit both of us um We did not record, BuzzVee actually purposefully had us record our vocals separate for that song, finish your sentences. He just said he felt like there was going to be like this maybe scared or, you know, just, oh, can I like mess up in front of them or whatever. And we did do our parts
Starting point is 00:14:44 separately. But we've finally gotten to sing it. You know, we got to sing it on GMA a few weeks ago before all this started. And we now have like a song that we can. play at each other's shows and you know surprise the crowd and things like that so it's fun to finally have something that's ours and not have to sing just duets but it's funny to find uh something to fit both of us creatively yeah absolutely i i just think it's so cool it's like what's the movie that's with um lady gaga and yeah like everybody wants that like musical romance story. I feel like it's like such a dream to like see two people that are in love on stage. Like when you guys, obviously you have saying together on stage. I'm just like, oh, what a dream.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I just think that's so cool. I've always wanted to just be like, I think it's one of the coolest things in the world to know that you inspire so many people and you're up on stage and people are singing your lyrics back at you. And then to be able to do that in your relationship and like together, I just think it's one of the most romantic things in world. Yeah, it's pretty, I definitely never thought that I would date, let alone marry another artist. That was just kind of like, no, thank you. That's too incestual, too many egos. Can't do that. But it just, it worked. I feel you on that. I never thought I would date or, you know, be with another bachelor person. Here we are. I love it. I love it. I think it's so awesome. it's pretty funny um so is there anyone that you haven't because you've worked with a lot of people now is
Starting point is 00:16:23 there anyone that you haven't had a chance to work with that you love to um because you've had some pretty amazing singers and writers on your album that are pretty hard to beat i i mean i would love i grew up loving bluegrass um alison kraus and rouse and union station is like my ultimate i would love to do something with them that would just be that would make me very happy and golly i would love to do something. Oh my gosh. You have to. I feel like you will. And you're putting it all out into the universe. So we'll just, we're going to say it's going to happen. I can totally see you. I don't know who the first person is. I feel embarrassed to say that that you just said. But dolly, like I can see happening. Like I'm like, I can vision it for you. Oh, I want the dog.
Starting point is 00:17:06 Yeah. Give me dolly. Give me all the dolly. And I know you're, I mean, it's probably hard. I don't know if you're like me in this way, but if people are like, you're inspirational to others. I'm like, it's hard to like, and maybe you feel this way too where on social media, if there's trolls, it's easier to pay attention to those because otherwise I feel like, if people are like, oh my gosh, you're so pretty and so great, I'm like, thanks, like responding to those. Then I feel cocky or like weird. But when trolls are like same things, I'm like, I'm going to stand up for myself. But it's like you are inspirational to many, especially people who may be, you know, rejected in the country music industry or, you know, you really found some success. So what advice would you give to artists who may have not found their place yet? Oh, gosh. I think the reason that I've been so vocal about my struggles is because I think when people get a taste of success, they very quickly pretend that they've not struggled and that this just happened and it's great. And yes, I belong here. And I never wanted to be like that. I wasn't raised that way. And I felt like if I could have had a female artist that I could.
Starting point is 00:18:16 could have looked up to that I knew struggled the way that I did that that maybe would have helped me in my 20s to not struggle so much with myself or work because people were telling me no. I just, I think that looking at my story for anybody, I hope that that gives them hope and just understanding that you don't have to change and you should not change who you are because somebody tells you now. Like just really work at yourself, find what makes you you, and don't change because I'm still, like I said, the same girl singing the same stuff. It's better music, but it's still the same girl at the core. Yeah, no, I think that's like the best advice.
Starting point is 00:18:56 And that's, I feel like what I preach all the time is, is even when people think, oh, my gosh, I'm turning 30 and I don't have this going on. I'm like, literally I just did an interview with Jason for his YouTube channel talking about how six years ago, I was like in the lowest place of my life, very depressed. like I was taking volume to just get through my days because I was just in such an awful place and like working at a restaurant being like I don't know where I'm going in life and I don't know what what I want to like just getting through and staying true to myself and not just doing you know oh I should go back to school or I should do this because I should just start a career because that's what I'm supposed to do I was like no I still want to be me I want to just put myself out there do weird things outside the box audition for shows like the bachelor like I just kept going because and I had so many people, even some of my, like, quote unquote, friends in the restaurant industry being like, I think it's a little too late for you. And it's like, what? I know. And now I'm like, but it just doesn't matter. You could do that like in your 40s. You can do that in your 50s. You
Starting point is 00:20:05 could always figure out by just being yourself what makes you happy and what you can do with that to bring, like, joy and success into your life. So that's true. It's really cool that you've gotten to where you are by doing that because I think that's a really important life lesson. So, yeah, clearly the last couple of years of your life have been amazing and great and hard. But what is one thing that's happened in the last few years that you think your old self would be the most shock to find out? Oh, gosh. Other than that I married another country artist, I would say, I think that. that I always gravitated towards like emotional sad songs and like heartfelt like vocalists.
Starting point is 00:20:56 And I think my younger self would be shocked to know that I have kind of become like this sad song. I mean like the emotional song girl I broke through with about the set of song on the radio in the last five years. And to then see, you know, these other songs that I've had out. and then to now my current single, I hope you're happy now, sad song, like very emotional. And it's like people want that from me. They like the real.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And so I think I would have been, I think I thought I had to sing just like uptempo songs that don't mean anything and are fluff. Yes, absolutely. That's, I think it's hard to, I love that you sing the emotional songs because I agree. I think people really can relate to those songs in so many different ways. Like even that song, it won't always be. be like this like when you're seeing that the other day on instagram i was like oh god because it's like it can even relate to like the time we're in right now like it's just so it it is so emotional and people people do relate to that and and love listening to it because i think that's why people listen to music
Starting point is 00:22:00 is to be moved and emotions move people so i think that's really cool that you do that all right though we are apart these days we're sharing more and geico would just like to say thanks thanks thanks for sharing your savage dance moves thanks for sharing your DIY haircut fails thanks for sharing your inner lip sync star and now it's GEICO's turn to share too with the GEICO give back a 15% credit on car and motorcycle policies
Starting point is 00:22:26 for current and new customers and because GEICO's committed for the long haul the 15% credit lasts your full policy term visit GEICO.com slash give back for info and eligibility learn more about GEICO's 15% credit on car and more motorcycle policies at guycoe.com slash give back.
Starting point is 00:22:45 What do you, I always think about this with relationships in music. I'm like, do you guys just sit like in quarantine and like play guitar and sing together? Or is that something you like shut off for like date night? Like are you like, okay, that's our work and like, yes, we enjoy it, but let's do other things. I think people would be shocked to know that I sing when I'm supposed to sing pretty much. I get a song stuck on my head, like, I'll sing it. Michael sings 24-7. Really? Like, in the shower, walking around, sometimes it's almost like this weird whisper, like under his breath. Like, he's, it sounds like a creepy human, just like walking around, but he's singing. He sings all the
Starting point is 00:23:31 time. So I just, like, let him sing. Sometimes we'll sing together, but, like, he's always singing and always listening to music. Like, he's very just, like, musical all the time. All the He's in it. He's in it. Too much. I was going to ask because, I mean, everybody, we see such, like, cute things happening between you two and you guys are so in love. But what's the thing that annoys you the most about him and the thing you love the most about him? The thing I love the most about him, I think, is his sense of humor. He's very funny. He's just, he makes me laugh all the time. The thing that he is, how do I say it like he's very forgetful of things and that becomes quite frustrating for me because I am very I'm a great multitasker and like I thrive on that and he does not so that's called being a woman and he is being a man like I swear that is actually how we're wired as humans like I hate to
Starting point is 00:24:36 make it a man and woman thing but I swear women are like they're good at multitasking they're good at getting so many things done. Their memory is incredible, especially if the guy does something wrong years ago. We will remember. And then men are like, I don't know what it is. They can only do like one thing at a time where they get like really overwhelmed. And like it's just, I think that's just all relationships. Yeah, I just, I will never understand. I, I'm like, what? I just don't understand. I do not understand. That's so funny. And you know, you've been on this podcast before, so you know that we do confessions. So I hope you have a good one for me today.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Remind me. So my, what was my last confession? Oh, gosh. I don't even remember my last. Just give me, give me one that you've done. I need to think about. Okay, okay, okay. Like, has any, has anything embarrassing happen?
Starting point is 00:25:41 to you on stage that you were mortified about has anything? Oh my gosh. I have the best ever. I was in Canada at the Bucin Arts Festival over the summer last year and I got this cute new romper and it kind of had like like oversized legs I guess but it was shorts and it just kind of was like open. I don't know how to explain it. It was kind of like boho. I'm so excited to wear and I had my friend Rachel out for doing photos for me. And there was like this big long catwalk. If you've ever been to like a country festival, you see those big long catwalks.
Starting point is 00:26:22 So, you know, and artists we wear in ears so we can hear our band, we can hear the music. And if somebody needs to get a hold of us, they talk through our ears. And so I'm like walking down the catwalk, just like in my zone. And all of a sudden I hear my front of house guy,
Starting point is 00:26:40 who never speaks to us he's he's just very like he was in the military like he's just buried by the book and he goes um carly your parts are showing i have no idea what that means we're in the middle of a song i can't so i don't know if like my boobs out my butts out like everything's that i don't know what that means i'm like excuse me so then all of a sudden rachel goes back there gets on the talk back and she's like you can't walk down the catwalk anymore you can see straight up straight up your shorts so apparently my shorts were so big and i you know wore a thong and was like not thinking about the fact that like people were under me and apparently you could just see so she showed a photo of what it looked like and it was terrifying it was like
Starting point is 00:27:26 something out of a horror film oh no like nobody's ever surfaced a photo of it but you could see so i've learned you can't wear you got to pay attention to what you just don't think about like people being below you and what they can see up No, you don't. And I, like, when I take voice lessons, she's always telling me about, like, how you breathe and, like, the stomach thing. And I'm like, well, how do all these, like, super cute artists who aren't in these tight clothes? Like, how do you breathe while sticking out your belly while, like, you're getting pictures taken from all angles, and then you got the trolls. And, like, it's like, there's so many outfits it's hard to wear on stage. I can't tell you how many. I think I posted a troll once who, I remember. Zoomed in on a photo of my stomach and was like, are you pregnant? And I was like, do you understand singing? You have to push. And do you understand like the angle of what you're like come on people. Like yeah. And do you understand social etiquette or like, who said that? Don't say that. You don't do that. Like shut. I had to blast it. So yeah. I remember. But I remember like
Starting point is 00:28:37 standing up and clapping because I I understand there's a time and place to ignore trolls and if I fought every battle I would be drowning in the trolls but like I also think there's a time and a place to stand up for yourself and body shaming is like my number one thing that I can't stand so I was I was applauding for you during that because I was like oh my god like I actually had the exact same thing um Jason posted a picture and we had just finished like the biggest birthday dinner. It was my birthday. I, like, ate everything I could. And I was so bloated and, like, who cares? And I was, like, standing at a certain angle and there's, like, a little and so many people. I'm talking, like, every other comment was, oh, my gosh, is she pregnant?
Starting point is 00:29:24 She looks pregnant. And I'm like, you know saying that is not right. Like, you saw me in the previous post and our Instagram stories drinking my face off. Like, I'm clearly not pregnant. And you know that. You're just saying it to be a troll. Well, and I think what's interesting and what people don't think, and I can speak to this because, or I can speak and say this to you and you'll understand because you're a thin woman, they think, oh, you're thin, you don't go through that. It's like, no, no, no, no, yes, it doesn't matter. They do not care. If you are sick, they're going to find something wrong with you. They're going to, they're going to be like, oh, that right there. You know, so we're not, just because we're thin doesn't mean that we don't have body shaming issues. Oh, and then you get the shamers who say, awful things about how you're sick and like you look unhealthy and like there's just there's body shaming from all angles and it's just it's just not okay with me it's like my number one thing that pisses me off with trolls and agreed agreed yes that's not okay um but that okay your confession was that's good because the fact that there's no photos out there of that it's creepy I know
Starting point is 00:30:32 I really can't believe it so all the time we're always like your parts are showing Carly Your lady parts are showing. We'll be back with more off the vine with Caitlin Bristow. Hey, I'm Autumn Calabrese, and I have a question for you. How do you do life? I might be a superstar trainer, but I'm also a boy mom, sister, daughter, friend, and entrepreneur. You might think my life is all working out and cooking healthy, delicious recipes. But trust me, there is so much more to it, and this is it.
Starting point is 00:31:04 This is all of those real moments you talk about with your family and friends. Ever wonder what else life has to offer? Okay, so many people have lots of questions for you, but first we're just going to do a quick game of hypotheticals. Okay. So hypothetically speaking, if you were to have any other career, what would it be?
Starting point is 00:31:34 Ooh. I think something in like health and nutrition. I love all that stuff. I do. I love like sports medicine. I love like personal training and nutrition for different body types and different blood types and all that stuff. Oh, that's amazing. Okay, that's really cool. If you could have any one superpower, what would you choose? Oh, invisible. So I could check out with some peeps, you know. I think I'm the same. If you could talk to your past self or your future self, which would you choose? And what would you say? I would speak to my past self.
Starting point is 00:32:17 And I would tell them to love themselves along the way a little more and to not jump too quick. I like that. If you could relive any moment from the last year, what would it be? From the last year? a moment with my producer Busby. Yeah, absolutely. Again, I'm sorry to hear about that. That was so hard. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:40 So sad, though. Crazy. So sad. If you could be best friends with any person or a celebrity out there, who do you pick? Meryl Street. Oh, good one. I love her so much. Oh, my God, that's a really good one.
Starting point is 00:32:55 I love her, too. Even, like, in all interviews, she just seems like such a down-earth, like motherly, loving, fun. Like, yeah, she's all the things. Who doesn't love Carol Street? Okay, if you could spend the day as a fictional character, who would it be? A fictional character?
Starting point is 00:33:15 Maybe Belle, I always wanted to be her. Oh, that's cute, Bill. Yeah, that's a good one. If you had to live anywhere in the world other than Nashville, where would it be? Oh, um, either San Diego or Charleston. I love those two places. I just think of my favorite. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:40 And then last one. If you were required to get a tattoo on your forehead, what tattoo would you get? Um, God. I mean, I just go for it. A wine glass. It's fine. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:56 That is relatable. That is relatable. You know, you've heard me talking about Caldrea for a while now. and it is genuinely one of my favorite brands that I've recently discovered. Caldrea is a consciously crafted home and body care brand that combines thoughtful ingredients with amazing, amazing sense, making caring for ourselves and our homes a beautiful experience. And who doesn't want that? We all know that hand washing is super important, one of the most important things we can do.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Even though I know how important it is, I often dread washing my hands because, I don't know, it can leave my hands feeling dry and inconvenient. Plus, in the past, I haven't always been a huge fan of some of my hand soaps, so it's just not that enjoyable of a process, I guess. But now that I'm using products from Caldrea to wash my hands, it's become a much more enjoyable experience, and I actually look forward to washing them because the smells are so good. My hands aren't dry after. Caldrea's line of hand care products include both hand soaps and moisturizing lotions that are incredibly effective, thoughtfully formulated, and smell divine chef kiss. and they are available in some incredible scents like ginger pomello and basil blue sage
Starting point is 00:35:03 and now that I use Caldrea's hand care products again my hands never feel dry plus I get to smell my favorite scents like right now I'm really into basil blue sage while I'm washing my hands such a better experience for me you guys have to try these products out and get free shipping on orders of $50 or more
Starting point is 00:35:21 when you buy online at caldraia.com that's C-A-L-D-R-E-A dot com visit caldrea.com and add wonder to your washing um okay so many people have questions for you um i did a little instagram story and so i will ask you a few of those um Abigail jo says what is your favorite part about being in the country music industry right now i think that i feel like i am helping i hope this sounds this is meant to sound not this is meant to be humble, not, not, that it's going to sound a lot. I feel like I'm one of the women helping to change history for women.
Starting point is 00:36:06 And I think that like really, truly seen now the next wave, the Gabby Barrett's, the Ingrid Andrus is coming up behind me that I feel like I helped in the way that Kelsey and Marin helped me. I'm not helping that. And it's like this forward motion that I think all of us will be spoke about for a long time. And I love that you look at it that way because it's, you know, I think when you're, you know, going through whether it's music or like even being a bachelorette, like I think it's important to look at it as you can't always think you're going to be on top and that you're going to be
Starting point is 00:36:43 the best and you don't want anyone else to like come above you. I think it's paving the way, especially for women and like how can you help and and opening up doors for them that maybe wasn't possible before it's so true yeah you have to welcome like because in my opinion and i'm sure that you feel this way in your in your industry when one woman wins we all do and it's just like one more fire that can help to just like shut down this conversation of women don't work on radio for me yeah absolutely i i really like that um okay and then brief sap wants to know if you have any hair advice because she as she's going through postpartum hair loss and she thinks your hair is gorgeous and wants to know hair tips well first of all my my show hair you too can get that hair
Starting point is 00:37:36 you just buy it you clip it in and you buy it i really love cashmere hair cashmere hair dot com they're great oh are the flippins yes i love them so much like they're my favorite clipins ever cashmere hair I will forever. I've tried them all. I've had beaded ones. I've had tapins. Clippins work the best for me. You can take them out because I work out and I run.
Starting point is 00:38:00 And cashmere is. But my, I mean, advice for hair. I have really, like, straight hair. So I just, like, a lot of product, texturizing spray and tease your hair. Don't just think you have to tease your hair right here. I like tease this part of my hair. From the bottom up. I do that too.
Starting point is 00:38:19 You know? yes that's okay i use clip-ins all the time but i just get mine from sally beauty for like 80 bucks you gotta invest in a little cashmere they are in they're amazing uh well and your mom is in hair styling right yes so she kind of like discovered cashmere and i mean every single um glam person that i use they're like what are these i'm like i know they're really okay okay good to know i'm i'm in need for too i'm trying to let my hair just like I'm not using any, like, blow dryers or curling irons or anything right now. I'm trying to just, in this time of quarantine, like, just let her go.
Starting point is 00:38:59 And- Yeah, you get there. Yes, it looks great. No, it doesn't. It does, it has, like, a little natural beach wave. Like, everybody wants that. Mine is not. I had it in a couple little braids earlier, so I feel like that gave it that.
Starting point is 00:39:11 But, oh, my gosh, it's crazy how in four weeks of not doing anything to my hair, it's grown, like, twice as fast. I feel like we damage our hair so much. like being on camera and doing events and all that stuff you have no idea yeah constantly like when i was on the show everyone knows from who listens to my podcast because i've talked about it so many times but i had started getting bald spots from like stress and extensions and i had to like keep them out for so long and now i'm like i only putting clippins when i have to but it is it's destroying your hair to always you know you're constantly doing something every day where your image is part of you know your music and you have this look that you do all the time you know and it's just
Starting point is 00:39:51 destroys your freaking hair it does um okay so would okay daily m 87 wants to know would you ever do a full tour with michael eventually yes now no we actually i mean we did a few shows together and like i said like our music is so different that if you really just stack us up as artist because that's how you should look at. You know, we're still in the building stages of our careers. We're not Tim and Faith. If we become Tim and Faith, yes, we can do something together. If we're Garth and Trisha, yes. But I just feel like you have to be smart in these stages and kind of like build yourself with people that make more sense. And obviously, like he's a little bit more of like the party crowd. And I don't really do well in the bar or the club scene. I like the
Starting point is 00:40:41 theaters and the more like, you know, just a little bit like more storyteller-esque air. areas. So yeah, eventually, yes, I would. But now, no. That makes sense. Like, when you're, when you're Garth and when you're on that level, Tim Faith, Garth, yeah, then you can't. And you'll get there. Okay, we already asked that one. Oh, oh, no, that's somebody who's like, where did you get the cozy cheetah prints from? I'm like, and they're talking about it. And I'm like, I actually don't remember where I got this. Oh, it's good. Okay. I mean, a lot of these we've already answered. But somebody wants to know, Emily Waller Duncan says, what made her never give up on her dream? What drove her to get to where she is? I came really close quite a few times. I even,
Starting point is 00:41:32 I looked at apartments in my hometown very, very around the time that every little thing hit. I think that really I have felt I always call out my biggest blessing and curse I have known that I was meant to do this since I was a little girl and I just felt like even in the moments that I was guttural crying in my car trying to make it through a meeting of somebody literally telling me to move home I would get in my car sob but then like within that day or the next day somebody would send a text I would send an email I would send an email I would would see something and it was just like right the right amount of like light to go I'll do it one day. I mean there were times that it was literally like day by day. Wow. And I think when you just you know you're meant to do something like that, you just can't give up. That's so true. Wow, that's really cool. Yeah. Some, what's her? I can't really read this name. So I'm just going to ask the question. What's the first thing you will do post-quarantine? I think just like hug someone other than Michael.
Starting point is 00:42:46 Yeah, absolutely. I keep trying to get him to get me a dog in quarantine. So we'll see. Is he not want a dog? He just keeps saying, we're not going to be in quarantine forever. So what does that mean? Who's going to take it? And I'm like, I'll take it.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I want a mini-doodle because they don't shed. You know, like, take it on the road. He's not happening. That's the thing. You can, you can. I mean, I have two golden retrievers and I usually travel all the time, too. You get like the best dog sitters and dog nannies. or you can take them with you, there's ways around it.
Starting point is 00:43:18 And if once you have one, you're like, how did I even question this? This is, you make it work. I'm like, come on, you know that you're going to fall in. And I know that he would. He'd fall in love with it immediately. Yeah, absolutely. It's, it is a commitment, but it's, I mean, it's one of those things. I don't think ever, no one's ever really ready to get a, like, dog or have a kid or like,
Starting point is 00:43:39 you know, you're just, you just make it work. Yes. Okay. I have to tell you guys about an amazing new service I found called Framebridge. And then last question, Eberhard something, Jenna, wants to know your favorite movie.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Oh my gosh. Speaking of. Merrill. I and this is like not a like whatever it's complicated is my favorite movie with Alec Baldwin Steve Martin and I actually I just watched that about I don't know a few months ago for the first time because I think it's on Netflix or it's on it's on something like Disney Plus or I watched it and it is a really good movie I don't know why my mom and I we love it and like every time we get together if we haven't seen each other why we watch it and like I I don't don't know like Rita Wilson is in it and I love her like I've gotten to know her because she's you know in Nashville some yeah I don't know there's just everything about it is is my favorite
Starting point is 00:46:19 that's funny that's actually why I watched it because um I did the new show that's coming out you'll probably love this show listen to your heart um yes yeah Michael was supposed to do it and we couldn't get the filming right we're supposed to say shoot really oh that's been so cool you um jason i are on the finale with rita wilson as judges they yeah because they had judges so they had jewel tay diggs and rita wilson as judges for the voice and jason and i got to be judges for the chemistry and it was so much fun oh that is so fun she's awesome i love her and she's just as cute in the movie i love it she is a really just like you just like being around her she just has good energy about her like just yeah really good energy um okay
Starting point is 00:47:06 So since we're all spending more time than usual scrolling on our phones, I think it's important to be aware of accounts that we follow and how they make you feel. So I do Instagrammes at the end of my podcast to give away. So I try to follow accounts and encourage me to be mindful. So at the end of this podcast, we're giving away an Instagramming today. It goes to a very popular account at We're Not Really Strangers. Have you heard of that? No. Okay. So this account was created by a model artist and, um, photo journalist Kareen with the goal of bringing more meaningful connections to everyday life. And they just like will find people like on the street and interview them and find like their great story. And it's kind of hard for me to explain without. If you follow it, you'll know. It's like one of my favorite accounts to follow. Oh, I need to follow. What is it? We're not strangers. We're not really strangers. Okay. Oh. Awesome. It's a really cool. I'm like dying right now. Pino is behind me and he, I don't know what is happening, but I think one of his.
Starting point is 00:48:06 teeth are rotting and he literally smells so bad. He just did like one of those big like breaths and I'm like, oh, like I'm going to die. Oh, gross. Okay, so what's next for you? I mean, I know we can't really say when, but what is next for you after the quarantine is over? Well, I was supposed to be next month kicking off the, we are Old Dominion tour with Old Dominion and Dustin Lynch. Obviously that is not happening right now. So, you know, I just put out that record a month and a half ago, so I'm eager to get out there and start touring it. I don't know how tours are going to be.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Are we going to do it next year? Are we going to be on different tours? I don't know what's going to happen. Just trying to take this time to write for my new record that I do not want to see for a while. But just hopefully not playing the shows that I want to. and, you know, we're, I think going into next week, like, tonight, tomorrow night is like the official, but I think Lee and I are top 10 at radio, which is super exciting. It's like my
Starting point is 00:49:15 fastest song to ever get into talk. Wow. That's exciting. Hopefully I can bring home another number one for myself about crappy relationships. But that's gotten you, like, you know, it's just what a, what a beautiful thing to write about crappy relationships and then win amazing things through it and be like that's you know what it was worth something exactly everything happens for a reason people absolutely i should start writing a journal even if it's like like so that down the road because i always love writing like are trying to get together with songwriters and doing stuff but do you journal at all like does that help you or you just like you're just able to because i don't understand the writing process that's why i need to write with people but i feel like journaling would help
Starting point is 00:50:03 me where you probably journal by just writing music. Kind of, but I will say, like, I think that journaling can help you. You have no idea, like, even something that you say, like, can completely be a song, like, just one little thing. Or, you know, if you write out and you see visually, like, there could be something that's set. I feel like that does, like, ignite creative. I've definitely journaled throughout my life and throughout my time in Nashville. And I feel like it makes you, like, really zone in on emotions, which I think is good. Yeah, absolutely, especially for songwriting, but in general, it's probably good to write out and see your emotions and then, and then look back on it a year
Starting point is 00:50:42 later, because a year goes by so quickly and just see, you know, like you can obviously speak to that from experience, just looking back on a year or two of journaling, and you'd probably be like, what the hell? Absolutely. Yeah, like, I can't even believe I felt that. Right, right, exactly. Well, thank you so much for being on the podcast today. Tell everybody where they can find your music and you and all the good stuff. You can find me hanging out in my cheetah room at Carly Pierce on Instagram, at Carly Pierce on Twitter, and I think Carly Pierce.com and Carly Pierce Music on Facebook. So on all the, all the things.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Have you been doing Instagram live singing at all? Yeah, I did like a happy hour. I've done a few. Again, it's like, we do a lot with radio. Like we'll do Instagram lives with different radio stations. That's kind of like been a thing. But it's like you don't want to do too many. So I'm trying to figure out like the rhythm of like, how do I do these?
Starting point is 00:51:38 Or sometimes I'll just get on and like answer questions or all that kind of stuff. Michael and I talked about doing like a covers little. Would you do that? I love when people sing covers. Right? Isn't it fun? It's the best. I absolutely love it.
Starting point is 00:51:55 God, I had one more question and I've lost it now. But just thank you for, you know, being true to yourself. and for being a really good role model and especially in the country industry of like, you know, breaking barriers and standing up for yourself by just being who you are and because that's all you should have to do
Starting point is 00:52:12 with your talent and just you as a person. So thank you for being you and thank you for being on the podcast and when this is all over, I know we've been talking about going on a double date, so we need to make that happen. We have to. Michael was like jealous that I got to talk to you today.
Starting point is 00:52:28 So I love her. That's awesome. We'll do it. We'll do a double date and we'll do a double date podcast maybe down the road where we can do like me and Jason and you and Michael. I wouldn't tell us when. We're done. Okay. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:52:43 All right. Thank you so much for being on the pod today. I'm Caitlin Bristow. I'll see you next Tuesday. Thanks for listening to Off the Vine with Caitlin Bristow.
