Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdad Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Polter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.

Starting point is 00:02:29 Well, Caitlin Bristow is creating a space where girls and jets can feel empowered to be themselves. Because there's more to like than Instagram, right? What's that supposed to mean? Welcome to Off the Vine with Caitlin Bristow. Now here's Caitlin. Okay, happy Tuesday, everyone, and welcome to Off the Vine. I actually can't believe I just said Happy Tuesday. That's one of my, can you nots, is getting emails that say,
Starting point is 00:02:54 Happy Monday or Happy Tuesday. Like, what does that even mean? Happy Friday, maybe, or one email say, I hope this email finds you well. I'm like, what does that even mean? I mean, it found me because you emailed my email. I don't know about finding me well. And warm regards at the end, well, just say, peace out. Peace out, Caitlin.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I'll probably like you more. Anyways, we have celebrity personal trainer, author, co-founder, part owner of City Strong and my friend Aaron Oprio with us today. Hello. And she's having a sip of wine. I know. It's balanced. It's balance, which is something I believe in very much. And so I'm glad you're going to partake in a little sip of wine with me. Mine's not so much a sip. Cheers. I have half a glass. She's got a full one. I've got a full one. And you know why you have half a glass? Because I have City Strong tomorrow morning. Nope, because I drank the other half. I think it's in your overflowing one you got right there. Yeah, I dumped some of it in. Well, you said you only want a little bit. That's right. You know, balance.
Starting point is 00:03:57 whatever that means. Balance is like having an overflowing glass of wine and then an overflowing glass of water. That's your kind of balance? That's my kind of balance. And everybody's balance is different. You've got to find your own balance. Your organs like my balance better. That's true.
Starting point is 00:04:15 But my mind and my mental state likes my balance. So we are up here in Canada, which is funny because we both live in. Nashville and we're doing a podcast in Toronto but so we're in Canada I thought I would start off the podcast with some good old Canadian news and stories because I feel like my lovely American listeners could use some positive news in their life don't you think you know what's funny is the Canadian news today was talking about the hurricane in Texas what I was like I can't believe that's well you know why that is is because we care about your country and your country does not care about ours you guys love us how awesome is that I think it's so funny because
Starting point is 00:04:57 as a Canadian, I learned about so much about the states. And then everyone I talked to you in the States is like, oh, yeah, we learn nothing about Canada in school. Nothing. Nothing. I was like, wait, they don't, they don't have states. No, provinces. Yeah, I learned that.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Well, there you go. Not until my adult life, not in my kid years. The more you know. So, as you know, Aaron, I'm in a bit of a mood today. I called you crying earlier. Um, so I need some positive vibes. So Canadian news. Let's hear. Okay. Um, so the other day I was watching the news and it was a story about a shoplifter. And I don't know if anybody remembers this because I did a Snapchat about it, but there was a kid who was stealing clothes from Walmart like a tie and a dress shirt and pants. And so the news anchor was all like, a shoplifter was caught in Walmart the other day. But it was his story that changed the police officer's mind. And, What happened was basically the kid needed, he had an interview for a job. And so he was stealing clothes for his interview from Walmart because he didn't have money
Starting point is 00:06:07 and he was trying to like make money to support his family. So the cop in Canada felt bad and let him off the hook and said, well, you know what, I'll buy you the t-shirt and the tie and the pants and good luck. Good luck at your interview. Wow, that's pretty awesome. Isn't that? What a sweet cop. He let him off the hook for shoplifting because he felt bad, paid for it, and then said,
Starting point is 00:06:30 good luck at your interview. And I found out that the kid got the job. So that's awesome. That is so Canadian. I love it. Also, my cab driver yesterday didn't want to turn on the meter because she said that the traffic was bad and she wanted to save me some money. Wow.
Starting point is 00:06:45 So Canadian. And you know what? The money that she saved went into her tip. So that's what I call a business woman. Business smart. So smart. Also. my last Canadian story
Starting point is 00:06:56 I only have three for you it's about turtles they go slow they do but that's what the news is over here turtles and a small town in southern Ontario spent over 2.7 million dollars building underground tunnels for turtles to cross a busy highway oh and that
Starting point is 00:07:16 ladies and gentlemen is so Canadian and that is the news up here isn't that so cute so different than our news like Canadians have their own newspaper too I just think that's so cute Canada's so cute like that uh anyways thanks for being on my podcast today hey thanks for having I'm really glad you're having a sip of wine with me so I'm not drinking alone I'm not above it but I'm glad you're doing it with me you know you a lot of times when we go on it's usually just you that's true I'm partaking I always hang out with you and Sean and the fitness crew and I find
Starting point is 00:07:47 myself like drunken alone at the end of the night oh no you got my Sean oh yeah that's true Your husband is also, Sean, and he partakes in a nice alcoholic beverage with me. Yes, he will join your one-man party. Now you've got two-man party. That's true. He does on stage with me for City Strong, too. Yes, he does. Love that.
Starting point is 00:08:05 So I've decided, wait, has anything happened to you while you've been in, this is your second time in Canada? Has anything happened where you're like, that's so Canadian that you can think of? Just everyone being friendly? Or do you notice a difference? Toronto was a little more like hustle, hustle, bustle, New York style. I love it, though. I knew you would. Oh, I love the city.
Starting point is 00:08:21 I've never been here and this is I was like hmm this is really cool it's it's up your alley for sure yeah yeah yeah it reminds me of a very small New York yeah it does yeah it's a little cleaner a little cleaner yeah exactly and Vancouver's a little different that was your first experience in Canada where everything's just so chill but everything's really spread out there so spread out yeah this is yeah you're right a little more compacted I feel like I've walked most of Toronto already yeah get my steps in which you love balance gosh I don't even wear my Fitbit some days because I'm like, Aaron can see my steps on the app, and I don't even want her to see. Like, I'd rather have zero.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And now I'm like, gee, she really didn't get out of bed today. Oh, I hate that. That's funny. Sean switched watches so he can't see anymore. But anyways, so I do Caitlin's confessionals now on this podcast because, you know, I just want someone to get something off their chest and something that's happening in their week, something that's kind of embarrassing or something you feel guilty about. And I decided that I will wash away your sins.
Starting point is 00:09:20 with a glass of wine with my oh so you want my confession yeah so i need a confession what's something you want to confess to the people something that we wouldn't know about erin opria you know what it is what my blankie blueberry blueberry is like my best friend nobody would think i have a blanket that thing goes everywhere it doesn't even go in my luggage has to go on my carry on and when i was in iraq i took it with me and the guys would hide it from me oh my gosh flip over all their racks trying to find it. They put it in the bags. I dump everyone's bags. What happens if you don't have? What do you call it? Blueberry? You're blankie. What happens if you don't sleep with it? You don't sleep? I've never had it. Really? How long have you had it? No, I kicked my husband out of the bed before my blanket goes. I mean, that is the dang truth. So how old is blueberry is number one? And how old is blueberry? Blueberry's been around since I was two. Since you were two? It's not so pretty anymore. Okay, that's so cute. Yeah, what is it just regs? Yeah, I like to scratch it. I put it up in my face and scratch it all night. long that is so funny because you are like this badass you were a marine you went to iraq you like
Starting point is 00:10:24 have an eight pack and you're like this tough chick and you have a blankie named blueberry give me my blueberries i can snuggle well i guess you have to you have like one thing that makes you like right there's something that gives you comfort yeah like i don't i feel like people wouldn't know how much i cry i cry a lot i find it therapeutic to cry do you really yeah like it makes me feel better after I have a good cry. I think a lot of people actually say that. Really? I don't feel that way. No, you don't. But you cry, but just very rarely. Yeah. Not because my feelings are hurt. That don't think it has ever happened. You cry because you're like punching a punching bag so hard that your sweat gets into your eyes and that makes your eyes water and that's how you cry. You know what?
Starting point is 00:11:05 I think I'd rather go punch a punching bag than just than cry. I should try that. That's my relief right there. That's what's kept my whole family alive is having a punching bag. So when my kids and my husband are driving me bonkers, you just go out and get the bag. That's a good idea, actually. It helps so much. I should try that. Okay, do you want to hear my confession?
Starting point is 00:11:23 It's way more embarrassing than yours. What's yours? Well, yours is kind of like a lifelong confession. Confession. Mine's more of like something that happened to me this week. I was having wine with Jillian Harris, who is a former bachelorette and also Canadian. And we both love our wine.
Starting point is 00:11:41 We're both from Alberta. We got after it. And we went in to have, you know, always that one more, oh, let's just have one more glass of wine. And I found myself in the bathroom. And so I wear, I was wearing a body suit. And I forgot I was wearing a body suit. So you just peed on it? So I pulled down my pants and sat down to pee.
Starting point is 00:12:00 And I peed on my body suit. Maybe you had too much one more glasses of wine. Well, that's exactly what happened, Aaron. And that is not what you call balance. That is not. That was overdoing it because I peed my body suit. and I'm a 32-year-old woman. You peed your pants.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Well, I mean, at least it was over a toilet, so. And let's wash away our sins with a glass of wine. That's awesome. I mean, I can't be that embarrassed about it if I just shared it with a lot of people. No, I'm embarrassed. That was bad. Sean's going to listen to this. I haven't told him that story.
Starting point is 00:12:37 You've been like, no. He's going to be like, you know what? This is what we like to call a problem. Okay, and of course I'm drinking wine right now, and thanks to bright sellers, I don't even have to go to the store to pick it up. I actually took their quiz a few weeks ago, and after you tell them what kind of chocolate you like and what you like to drink, besides wine, I also like whiskey, they show you the top four wines you're most likely to love. They find hundreds of unique hidden gems from small vineyards from all over the world, including Italy, Spain, Portugal,
Starting point is 00:13:06 and South America. If you give them a try and dislike any bottle, your wine concierge will help you find the perfect replacement bottle for your next shipment. Now that is service. I was really surprised, but they actually did an awesome job. One of my favorites was the Lost City Malbec, which tastes incredible and also has super cool label. They also have one called Folk and Fable, which is Bourbon Barrel Red Blend. Take their quiz to see your own unique wine matches. Off the Vine listeners will get 50% off when they visit brightsellers.com slash off the vine. That's Bright Sellers Like a Winecellar.com slash vine for 50% off. Cheers to that.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Okay, so how does it feel to be an author of a book? I mean, crazy. That is crazy. That's a big, big accomplishment. Okay, your book is called Four Buy Four Diet. Yes. Tell us about it, explain it. So this book is my lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:13:56 It's how I preached all my clients to live their lifestyle. It's all about living a healthy lifestyle, but still having fun. So it's learning how to balance the good and the bad, the hard. But also, it's about workouts, too. has the tabata workouts which are my absolute favorite you taught me about those I love them they're so fun it's like a game it makes time makes a workouts go by so fast it does and you do feel like you're getting a break okay so explain the tabata what tabata is a four-minute workout so it's 22nd burst of exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest for eight rounds and that's one to potta
Starting point is 00:14:28 and then you link them together so in the book I have them broke out broke down to what you should do each day for each level of fitness and then I show you how to do them in the book And the thing is that so many, anyone can do them. Anyone can do it anywhere, too. Because you can do it with like jumping jacks even if you wanted to. You can do them with pushups. Pushups are so hard. If you do eight rounds of pushups, you're going to feel like you're going to die.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Well, who are you asking? You can do, how many pushups can you do in a row? In a row, I don't know. Without stopping. You just can keep going forever. Well, I don't know. I just never do it that way. I always do like, I want 700 during this game, soccer game.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Whoa. So I don't really do. 700 pushups. Yeah. In one soccer game. Yeah. Watching my kids play. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:07 That's, I mean, you kind of know you're a little insane. Maybe a little. Well, to me, everybody tells me. I'm insane to you for how much wine I drink, and you're insane to me for how many push-ups you can do. But you love your wine. I love it. It's so fun to me.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Yeah. Because I make it, every time I do something, it's a game. It's like, if I'm a jump rope, I jump rope to this song, and then maybe I change a song, and then I get to go again. Yeah, your idea of a game, we talk about this Every City Strong, is so different from my idea of a game. but you put on nelly radio and you can work out forever put a little pandora nelly radio and you are gonna kill it i can totally get down with nelly radio i do love my 90s rap okay so four by four but
Starting point is 00:15:50 explain to me what that means again like the so it's four nutritional tips to follow and then the four minute workouts so it's um cutting out starches at night which makes such a big difference in your body like at night being what time like after lunch or you can do like an afternoon snack and then after that, cutting out starches. So not carbs, because carbs are vegetables. So eat your lean protein and veggies of some sort. So you have salads, lean protein, you know, like steak and broccoli or something fancy, Brussels sprouts, beets.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Now we're getting real fancy. I love me some beets. Mother's milk is beet juice for you. Okay. So. And then it's just cutting back on sugar, cutting back on alcohol. Son of it. Now, this is something I wanted to ask you.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Do you really truly believe that alcohol is a big factor in weight gain? Absolutely. 110%. I was really hoping you wouldn't say that. It goes right to the gut, too, and the face. Yep, that would explain it. It makes you a puppy all over, especially in the cheeks. Yep.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Underneath your chin, and then it gives you a belly. It makes weight. And if you're trying to lose weight, you're eating really clean, but you're still drinking it. You're probably like, wait, I'm doing everything right. I'm only having two glasses of wine night. Yeah. That's probably it. That is so wild to me because I'm obviously a very tiny human being, but where I gain my weight is face and stomach.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Well, hello, wine. So that makes a lot of sense. I look at myself back from being on the show and I can totally see a difference because I was drinking so much during the show, during Bachelor and Bachelor at that I look back. My face was like it looked like I just had like puffy face. Your face was so much bigger. It was so puffy. Yeah, compared to now. which is big difference yeah because now I do I mean on the show I'm drinking morning tonight now I'm
Starting point is 00:17:40 just drinking night well there's your balance but there is my balance actually you know what I drink about three times a week and there's seven days a week that's not too bad lately seven but that's because I'm on holidays right now I mean who's counting I am you who's counting uh you are Aaron every glass that's that's another one that's another one right right for or once on the lips, forever on the hips. That's the truth, or in the gut, or on the face. Oh, man, it really does go straight to my face in my gut. That's alcohol.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Oh, I was really hoping you wouldn't say that. Okay, so what if you're going to have a drink? Is wine the best? So red wine has nutritional value to it. So there is some nutritional value. That's what I want to hear. The weight gains still happen. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I like to do like straight vodka. Oh, vodka on the rock, squeeze some oranges, lemons, limes in it. Yeah. And that's only like 75 calories. But wait, isn't vodka made from potatoes, which is a starch? There you go. You got that. And wine is made from grapes, which is a fruit.
Starting point is 00:18:46 So that has sugar. Damn, damn. Okay, so basically alcohol is a big factor in waking. It is a big factor. But I'm not saying you should cut it out because that's not a healthy lifestyle because then all you're going to think about, you're going to obsess over your wine. Yes. So I said try to cut it down to two.
Starting point is 00:19:04 a week to a week to glasses yeah i'm not talking like a glass that never empties like someone just keeps pouring some in there it's just the same glasses that doesn't count like what it like six ounces of wine so 12 ounces a week of wine could you do it you know how you trick yourself on it you pour small glasses and you sip them and then you feel like you have to have another one and then it's one yeah so if you trick yourself like that you'll nurse a smaller glass and then yeah Have some water and then do it again. My love for wine doesn't mean my love for getting drunk. I actually just enjoy wine.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I do too. For me, it's red wine. When I have red wine, I feel very comforted and relaxed. Yeah, me too. You know, it used to be for me. I used to watch The Bachelor, Bachelor, and have wine and chocolate. And my kids, it was on Monday nights, my kids, it was no talking to mom. It was off duty.
Starting point is 00:19:55 You were just in the zone. And I had wine and chocolate every Monday night. That's amazing. And the kids would not talk to me. They're like, they'd walk by and they go ask my husband, whatever. What's your favorite season? I can't see you enjoying The Bachelorette, Bachelor, but I love that you did. Okay, hang on, let me think.
Starting point is 00:20:11 I'm trying to think of his name. Wait, is his name Caitlin Bristow, and that's your favorite season? I watched it before you guys were on. It was before that. It was with that guy. Sean Lowe. No, before that. He picked a girl, and then he picked the second runner up.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Jason Meznik. Yes. Yes. And he picked Melissa Rycroft and then broke up with her on the live show and went back to Molly and they're still together. They got married, right? Yeah. They have a little girl together and he has a son. By her?
Starting point is 00:20:42 No. Oh. That's right. He had a son when he was on the show, didn't he? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That's your, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:47 And he's such a nice guy. Well, then I guess he chose right. He made the right decision. Yep. And that's your favorite bachelor. Yeah. Oh, that's cool. That is funny.
Starting point is 00:20:56 I mean, I really only watched like three episodes, but, or three, yeah, three different seasons. And that was, that was your. mom time. My mom time. No, no, non-mom time. That was when the kids had to leave you alone. It was break time. Your husband. Off-duty time. You didn't have to think. You just got to enjoy people being ridiculous on TV. Yeah, that was great. Well, that is, and it's two hours to just shut up. I like, I like, you know, and everyone, that's another thing. Everyone's like, you watch a real housewife's. Yes, I love them. Yeah. Everyone is shocked by that on me, because I'm so not a personality that most people would ever think I'd watch something like that. So you watch Real Housewives, Bachelorette, and you have a
Starting point is 00:21:34 blankie. Jeez, I sound like a girl now. It's okay. We'll toughen you up. We'll talk about other things to me. Okay, wait, speaking of having your off-duty mom time, you have a husband. You have two kids. Yes. And you run a successful business of training celebrities. You have City Strong. You have soccer games to attend with your kids. You work out for yourself. and you keep the romance alive. Romance. Is that what you want to come on? That goes in the bottom.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Yeah, well, that's, I kind of suck on that one. On the romance stuff? Oh, absolutely. But that's, well, look at your life. I get up at three in the morning, by time I go to bed, it's like, I mean, it's usually almost 10 now. That's crazy. When I hit that point, I am zoned.
Starting point is 00:22:25 There's no time for romance. I'm like, dude, really just. You're like my sleep. This is my side of the bed. Go to sleep, please. but you know what now he's working my hours and he feels this way and now he's like oh i get it he's like i'm so tired i was like me too thank you god that's so funny because i mean think about the first stages of a relationship you will make time for that romance and you will find two minutes
Starting point is 00:22:49 to get it in there and do what you got to do and then the wedding bells and then you're like eh i'm good why do you think i'm not getting married why do you think i've been engaged for so long yes you knew what you were doing that was very strategic we are a little opposite so how long have you and Sean been married eight years eight years holy smokes that's a good solid amount of time it'd be nine years in November November what I'll put that in my calendar oh what let's call Sean 28th yeah let's call Sean knows that okay let's call them um so November 28th and okay so romance is the last on your list, but that's because you have so many other, like a million other things. It's not that I don't love my husband. I have the best husband ever. You're kidding. He's so good
Starting point is 00:23:38 to me. You guys are, you have a very healthy relationship without the sex. Yeah, but who needs that? Me? Obviously not me. I mean, when I was in Iraq, I went two years without it. Exactly. I'm cool. Speaking of marriage, we all know the wedding vows until death do us part. That means forever. once and you're done but what if marriage was like your phone contract where you can choose to upgrade after a few years in the upcoming romantic comedy i do until i don't lake bell ed helms mary steenbergin paul riser amber heard and wyatt scenic star as three couples in a film about marriage being an old-fashioned idea that needs a reboot why not turn marriage into a seven-year
Starting point is 00:24:23 contract with an option to renew vivian is a jaded filmmaker who believes that marriage is an outmoded concept that needs a reboot. Hoping to prove her theory, she begins to interview three couples at various stages in their relationships. As the manipulative filmmaker, played by Dolly Wells, attempts to wreak havoc on these couples, they hilariously discover the do's and don'ts in their own relationships. Critics are calling, I Do Until I Don't, a touch of genius and charming and funny. This is Lake Bell's follow-up to her acclaimed 2013 comedy, in a world.
Starting point is 00:24:56 I Do Until I Don't opens Friday, September 1st, in the show. theaters everywhere. Here's where we get back to you being a badass. You, wait, we're calling him and seen. We're going to ask him two questions. Oh my. Um, you were, wait, I'll go put it on speaker. You were in Iraq. He didn't have sex for two years. Yeah. And you have a blankie. And my blankie was with me. The whole time. The whole time. Oh, hey, how's it going, Sean? We're running errands and stuff. It's actually frustrating, but we'll get something actually done. Well, you're on the podcast right now.
Starting point is 00:25:35 So say hello to everybody. The world's listening to you. Hi. Hello. How's it going? We have two questions for you. This is very odd. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Yeah, hit me. Okay, first question. How often does Aaron have sex with you? Oh. Tell me the truth. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, like, in my head, like, how at the time I look at my wonderful, beautiful wife
Starting point is 00:25:58 I think, hmm, yeah, I could be having sex right now in my head. Well, that's every day. Actually, us touching and doing stuff. Yeah, give me the physical stuff. Oh, yeah, yeah, three times a year. I told you, I really suck at it. That's okay. But we're talking about kids and balance and three times a year.
Starting point is 00:26:17 No, you got to work on that, Aaron. I know. I said that every day. I say, okay, tonight's tonight. Nah, it's bedtime. Yeah, but you guys are so tired by the end of day. Okay, Sean, last question. When is your anniversary?
Starting point is 00:26:26 Yeah, hey, when is our anniversary? November 28. Oh, I nailed it. It's a year, the love. You're the love. And so first year, first year we had sex,
Starting point is 00:26:38 probably 50 times. Second year, probably 45. It's been going down by like exponential factors. Well, maybe that's just life. And maybe you guys are just
Starting point is 00:26:49 honest about it. Okay, thanks for tuning in, Sean. Go get your errands done. Go get your errands done. Bye. Yeah, yeah, get her up into a nice lather.
Starting point is 00:26:56 So she'll send her back to me all. All lubed. Okay, love you. Love you. Bye. That is hilarious. I love his sense of humor.
Starting point is 00:27:08 It's so good. Okay, so three times. Yeah, Aaron, you know what? I told you. I'm awful. I've got a mission for you. You're going to try. You know my clients give me missions all the time about having to say.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm an open book about it. It's one thing I suck at so bad. And I'm like, today, I can nail this today. I can do it. I can do it. you're such a motivated person yes I'm so motivated but then you get home and you're motivated to sleep no I'm super motivated all day and when I get home I'm super motivated to soccer and work out some
Starting point is 00:27:38 more I'm so excited and watch soccer and then I get home and I eat and I'm like oh shower good night good night good night everybody what if you took 30 minutes out of your workout to get a little other kind of workout you know what I'm saying well you know my 30 well it wouldn't take 30 minutes it'd be like 10 seconds at this point what the heck kind of workout that yeah that's not a good but we would be I'm at the soccer field so it's not like hey son I'll see you in 30 minutes I got to go do mom and deed see that you're being a good mom that's right I get it hey they're going to be gone for too long that's true then maybe you'll go maybe maybe I'll be I'll reverse back to like my 20s let's see I would keep me posted on that please is that weird that I want you to keep me
Starting point is 00:28:22 I think we've talked, I kind of... We talk about this all the time. You're kidding me? We talk about this stuff all the time. I will keep you posted for sure. I will text you hearts on the magical day. Yes, that's it. One time Aaron and I were, what was this?
Starting point is 00:28:34 It was at a city strong. Yeah. And you said, tonight's the night. I'm going to give him the sex. And I said, okay, send us hearts on a text. Yeah, you did. I did. And in the morning, we wake up and Sean and I were like,
Starting point is 00:28:50 woo, she did it. She sent hearts. Don't get excited. It happened in this time. We were really proud of you. Thanks. Speaking of City Strong. Let's talk about, well, everyone knows, I think, because whoever listens to this podcast, obviously keeps up with my life with Sean and things that we do.
Starting point is 00:29:07 So they know about Citestrong. But tell us how Citestrong started and what sort of built this traveling workout party that you guys came up with. So Sean, Sean and I, so both Sean's, you were in Canada. Yeah. And we were out on a bicycle ride, riding through Nashville, just hanging out. And I was like, hey, Sean B, you want to do this? Because we had already talked about doing something together. We just didn't quite know what it was. You wanted to share your love for passion on. Share your love for passion. We are not sharing passions. I'm still on like the passion side of things. We have moved on past that. I've moved on from that a long time ago. You wanted to share your passion for fitness. Yes, for fitness. And I was like, But we hadn't figured out what we wanted to do. We knew we wanted to do something to get it out there, but we didn't know what. And so we were on a bicycle. I was like, I got an idea.
Starting point is 00:30:00 And then three weeks later, we had our first one. I think it's so crazy because you guys are two of the most passionate people I've ever met about fitness. And so I feel like it was meant to be that your worlds collided. You were training me at the time. And every time, I'd be like, hello, come on, back to me. Because you and Sean were just so like, you know, so. involved in getting something in the works and you came up with this idea to have a group workout, travel, do a different city every month and just spread the love around the country
Starting point is 00:30:31 and now we're international. I know. How crazy is this? And now there's a military base in Germany that wants us to come. Really? Yeah. Whoa, that's cool. Where in Germany? Oh, I forget. Oh yeah, you lived there. Yeah, I did. I lived in Nernberg. Is it Nernberg? I don't remember the name. You don't like that place? No, it's actually beautiful. I didn't enjoy living. there but I enjoy visiting. You know what? We wouldn't be living there, so. I don't remember. I have to look it up. Well, that's so crazy. But not only that, look at the charity we give all this money to. Well, that's so, that's so near and near to my heart. Exactly. I love
Starting point is 00:31:04 that, you know, we're, well, we. I'm up there on stage, like, dancing. It's we for everyone because my, Sean, all of us are heavily involved. Yeah, we make a good team. You and Sean lead the workouts. And the best part is everyone comes and has such a blast. Like by the end, so many people are leaving being like I did not realize it was going to be that much fun or I got such a good workout and even guys are like sweating so badly like I thought that was going to be an easy workout and it was not or girls leaving being like I didn't think I could do it and I did everyone's so happy you know what on stage too we just beat off the energy of the crowd the crowd absolutely upbeat I mean I don't think I've been to lots of workout stuff yeah the City
Starting point is 00:31:43 Strong is definitely the most fun it is it's a party it is an absolute party I mean I have wine up there. I'm in my natural habitat. A bottle of wine. Bottle every time. And Hey, that rhymes. A bottle, wine every time. Does that rhyme? No, bottle every time. No, it doesn't rhyme. She's, keep drinking, Aaron. Is your one sip of wine getting to your head? But the best part is that it also is giving back. So people are working out for a good cause and part of the proceeds go to create a vet where it's cool because you were in the Marines. It means a lot to you. you to give back to that community. And then the music is a lot of my job and partly you.
Starting point is 00:32:25 And so. Now you're music. Now I'm in music, well, trying. And you work with Carrie Underwood, Janet Kramer, Kelsey Ballerini, Lauren Elena, all these singers. And what Creative Vets does is they take people who have went overseas and who have PTSD and write music with them to get everything that's in their head to clear their heads to get out through music.
Starting point is 00:32:47 It's really cool. It is a really cool thing. And I know just, I obviously do not have PTSD, oh, maybe a little bit from the show, but like writing music to me, even though I'm not a songwriter by any means, but I'm learning, it is really therapeutic to me. And I think about people coming back from doing that kind of thing where I can't even understand it. And you don't really want to talk about it with many people, but from what I've heard with creative vets, they go in and write music. And by the end, they just have gotten so much out and so many feelings out there that they never thought. they could express and now it's in the form of a song for them to have. It's so cool. It's such a cool, cool organization. So I'm, I love that we do that. And I can't wait to see what city we go
Starting point is 00:33:31 to next. I know. Oh, what? Do we want to say it? Yeah. Why not? We're going to Nashville. Oh, yes. Oh my gosh. You know what? So cool about Nashville. It's our birthday party. Yes, a one-year birthday party. We are having a city strong birthday party and we want everyone to come hang out with us. Yes. So all you Nashville people, no excuse, come to our birthday parties. And all you tourists visiting Nashville because Nashville is full of Bachelorette parties. And so anyone. And we're right in the middle of downtown. So there's no excuse. So when is it? September 26th? No. That's tomorrow. We're August 26. That's tomorrow. September 30th. And we're going to be at the Hall of Fame Park.
Starting point is 00:34:09 Oh, right. Okay. So September 30th. And we might have some other special guests come. Maybe. Maybe. We have to show up to find out. Yeah. You got you up. That'll be so fun. So one year birthday party for City Strong in Nashville, September 30th. Big numbers. I get it. But we're going to, it's going to be really cool as we're doing extra things. So we might have, we're going to have like a photo booth before tattoos, like temporary City Strong tattoos. It's going to be a real true birthday party. It is a birthday party. That's so fun. Everybody bring some balloons just bring. Wouldn't that be funny if everyone showed up a balloons and we just have balloons all over the place? That would actually be, yeah, I like that. We should. Tell everyone to bring balloons and we'll let them all up at the same time.
Starting point is 00:34:50 That would actually make for great photos. Heck. Okay, bring your balloon. We thought we were joking at first, but we're not. Bring 10. Why stop at one? Well, now you're getting crazy. Could you imagine if we all just let go of balloons at the same time?
Starting point is 00:35:03 Yeah, that's such a good idea. Maybe they can put their fitness goal in a balloon and let it go at the end. That's it. Hey, maybe we have a balloon filling station where everyone fills a balloon and they put something in it. Did we just become best friends? Yup. That's a great idea. That is actually super cute.
Starting point is 00:35:24 We might do that. And then we'll all let the balloons go. I'll bet half people up their balloons go ahead of time because they're going to forget they're having them. That's okay. Whatever, you know, it's a party. Do whatever you want. Do whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Ooh, I like that idea. Okay. And if you guys want to check out more City Strong stuff, go to at your CitySstrong on Instagram. Citestrong.com for information about it. Starting point is 00:37:39 I thought we'd play a little segment. segment called can you not and can you not and it's just things that you can't stand and we thought we would do fitness edition so things that bug you like i know one that you can say i know one can you not that aaronopria has and it's when what what is i'm trying to figure out what it is when girls don't want to use weights oh because our free weights are going to make them big yes exactly can you not you have to say can you not after on weights make pretty muscles you've seen Carrie's legs. That girl uses she uses weights. Yeah. You've seen
Starting point is 00:38:14 Janice. She uses weights. Yeah. I'm not saying you have to use weights every time and I'm not saying you have to go for like 200 pounds. That's, okay, here's the thing. Girls who are like really into the fitness and it's so impressive when they, you know, can squat a buttload of weight. That's totally impressive. But then there's girls who think if they do
Starting point is 00:38:30 any weights, they're going to get sick which is so not true. So if you guys want proof, Carrie Underwood, you train Carrie and she works so hard. She does. And she uses weights. But to get the body like that is so much hard work, dedication, discipline. Because it's not about just doing weight training in order to see all those pretty muscles. If you just did that and you still kept gaining fat on top of it because you're not eating right, then you're not going to ever see them. Like you're going to be like, well, I do all this work and I'm just getting bigger. Well, it's because you're choosing to not change your diet. The nutrition is a big part of it. Sean, I obviously learned from him. I never knew anything about nutrition before just because I was like, I'm, I can. do whatever. I'm tiny. Yeah, I'm tiny. And now I'm like, oh, actually, from working with you,
Starting point is 00:39:15 I learned that weights actually gave me my best results. And Sean taught me about nutrition where I'm like, oh, and now I'm just lazy. I've been so shitty lately. What? Yeah, I've been really bad. Let's work out. Maybe not eating, but I've been bad of working out. I really want to get back into it. You went to a huge, great streak. Oh, I know. That's because I had you. But even after that, Like just recently. It wasn't that. Since you went to Canada. I'm one of those.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I'm one of those. Yes, it is because I'm like, I'm living in the middle of wineries. Oh. Is there a bunch of them here? Oh, not in Toronto,
Starting point is 00:39:49 but in Vancouver? Yeah. I didn't know that. I'm just outside of Vancouver and the Okanagan. It's like wine country. It's amazing. But I feel like I'm not being very good with balance and I'm okay with eating. I usually eat pretty healthy.
Starting point is 00:40:04 My wine intake is ridiculous. rude I drink a rude amount of wine and the wine people are happy you're keeping them in business I really am and why you don't have your own wine line I have no idea it is on the way I can't wait I really feel like it's in my future I mean how can it not be it has to be it's like me not having fitness in my future like that's true I mean your passion is wine that's true that's a good point hey wait and I need to call it off the vine actually that be really cool you could come up with such a cute label for that oh yeah it'd be so edgy i'd like want someone to be giving no not the middle finger but like you know how girls have their pinky up when
Starting point is 00:40:47 they drink something i'm gonna have my middle finger up drinking a glass of wine off the vine i think that's oh wait we're on the can you not okay so girls who girls who say i don't want to use weights it'll make me bulky oh you know what i hate to hear what i don't want to sweat i don't want to sweat I was like, wait. Can you not? Why would you not want to sweat? That's working out. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:41:11 That's how you burn the cows. I love when I sweat. I do too. Makes me feel like I really did something. Well, it's good for your body, too. Sweating, yeah, it gets out all the wine. I can smell it when people work out after they drink. Oh, I bet.
Starting point is 00:41:24 I get some good alcohol whiffs. I'm like, who, someone's been drinking. There's no lying to me. I caught you. Who? Dish, dish. Dish. Nope.
Starting point is 00:41:32 I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. You're a friend, too. a trainer and a friend okay what about when people just sit on the machine at the gym and sit on their phone can you not that is annoying like and people are waiting and they're just like a lot of the gyms now have it posted to not do that but that doesn't mean they follow all the time what about when guys aggressively grunt during lifting weights and I'm like I'm like oh that's not attractive whatever you know that turns you on don't lie that's what you're saying that's other day being at a gym turns me off there's nothing more of it turned out to me than the gym did you hear in our interview today with Sean Sean B that we did um they said what's one thing that Caitlin's better than you had at the gym what did he say we were laughing I was like I did he have an
Starting point is 00:42:24 answer I was like yes stair climber no he'd beat me at that too he's like we'll give her that one but I'm better he can go on it for like an hour I'm like 20 minutes it's in and I'm like I'm dead that did he have an answer no couldn't come up with something better I know I bet it would be like stretching and the butt exercise I'll bet you would kill him and like the hands and knee like Jane Fonda kind of exercises oh I can get down with Jane Fonda so yeah you would probably kill him in that because most guys just aren't good at that in general I am I am not bad at the booty workouts I don't mind my butt that's probably my favorite part of my body hasn't always been though well it's the one i want to work on the most because i always want it to stay good yeah but i have
Starting point is 00:43:08 cellulite and it's weird because i'm so small but that's genetic almost every woman has yeah i know i always convinced my i'm like why am i so tiny and i have cellulite and then i'm like oh because that's life and you're a woman and i'm a woman and guess what kaelin it's not going anywhere anytime soon it's pretty it's like dimples on your cheeks those are cute aren't they cute on your butt why aren't they well i'm going to make it a thing Dimples on your butt is cute. You heard it here first. You made a lot of girls' day with that comment right there. Well, I mean it. You know what? If people would just flaunt it, it wouldn't become, it would be less of a big deal.
Starting point is 00:43:44 Confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear. Yeah. I think. That's why I don't wear bikinis. You do. You look so good in a bikini, you liar. Well, I guess it's just how I've been feeling lately. Well, I haven't seen your one, but those Hawaii pictures last year. Was that last summer? Oh, geez, you look so good. don't give me that face well I did work really hard for that but when you're on the
Starting point is 00:44:07 but there's paparazzi there and they don't get your best angles well when you're bending over touching your toes you know I was like oh geez wow I felt violated I was like yeah sure I felt pretty good about my body but now you got me bending over like it was aggressive it was an aggressive shot that's cool are we done with the can you nuts oh where's my phone I want to ask you some questions from people who listen to the podcast because everyone obviously you know how people have so many questions about fitness and how to stay motivated and all of that so I'm going to ask you a couple questions from listeners and we'll see what you have to say I feel like I already know what your answers are going to be do you really yeah because I've probably
Starting point is 00:44:47 asked you the same question and you told me like this Caitlin Schwab would like to know any recommendations for people who don't love working out or ones to do at home oh tabatas yeah Tabadas are the at-home things, and we don't want to work out, put on Nelly. I'm telling you, you can't, you can't, it doesn't have to be a serious, yes, you hit start. On your little breaks, make it like a dance party. You've got to have fun with it. Yeah, that's true. Get your spouse out there to do it with you.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Get your, I have teenagers so they can come out and do it with me. Sometimes they look at me like, they say, mom, your music's such old people. Yeah, but that's because you're a mom. No, I'm a cool mom. You are, you're not a regular mom. You know, they say I'm so embarrassing. No, you're not. So you suggest a dance party, crank up the tunes.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Crank up the music and have fun. If you just take it seriously, sometimes you're just going to do it to let out aggression. Yeah. Most of the time for me, it's like put in the music and I'm like, yeah, like even on the side of the soccer field, I'm doing my jump rope and then I'll stop and I get down and people are probably like, what's wrong with that crazy lady? Wait, can we talk about that for one second? I'm trying to think of how much time we have.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Okay, we got a little bit of time. You were jump roping at your son's soccer game. Yeah. And you are one of those people that you're just so motivated and you will fit in working out wherever you can, which is so great because that's why you have the body that you do. Thank you. And so you're jump roping at your kid's soccer game and a man took a photo of you and put it on Facebook and said what? So I was jumproping. I wasn't.
Starting point is 00:46:17 So a lot of people are like, that's what you get for being in front of me. I wasn't. I was in the parking lot. I could see the whole game, but I didn't even pay to go in. So the guy was in his car taking the picture or in the parking lot somewhere. I didn't know he took it. Yeah. He posted on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:46:29 I didn't know him. Someone that I knew saw it, sent it to me. Yeah. And so I just wrote a blog about, you know, don't let people like this. I mean, he just, he made it very ugly saying that I was screaming for attention and then he called me a butterface. Oh, my gosh. What kind of man with a kid? I mean, he was there to watch his kid play.
Starting point is 00:46:49 And so, you know what? I turned it. I didn't make it about him. I didn't put his name on there. I wrote a blog about don't let people not like don't do what you want to do because you're worried about people talking about you which is what most women tell me they say I can't do that because people are going to make fun of me well I'm not living my life to make them happy let them make it gives them something to talk about it entertains them or maybe you know what maybe by me doing it they'll decide you know what I can do that too
Starting point is 00:47:17 yeah so you might influence a lot of people in a positive way yes you're going to get negative But you get negative walking down the street, so who cares? And those are the people who are the most insecure, are the ones judging. Yeah. So that whole story blew up because I posted it, Carrie Underwood reposted it. Which is amazing. And none of us had his name in there. We didn't make it about him.
Starting point is 00:47:38 We made it about the incident. Which is so good because he clearly needs some sort of attention in his life. Well, he went on Carrie's Instagram and tagged his name and was ugly. And that's like he wanted people to know he was that nasty. It was so bad. It was... I love Carrie for posting that and sticking up for you and not giving him the attention. Yeah, that's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:47:58 She's such a great person. That's so cool of her to do that because, you know, a lot of people who have that many followers would, you know, oh, well, I got to stick true to my brand and do this. And she was like... She's such a dear friend. She's such a good person to me. That's so nice. I love hearing that about people. That's so cool.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Well, screw that guy. Yeah. Can you not? Okay. Starting point is 00:49:26 what carra hey kara what's up how you doing she wants to know what do you think of the keto diet you know what is that no carbs this is the no carb one I don't I believe more in balance because a lot of times when you say you can't have this or you can't have that if you just tell yourself you can't have it we tend to obsess or we obsess and do it perfectly and then one day we have it and then we just quit and then you say massive gain weight gain happen and so I feel like if it works for you and you enjoy it do it because you got to find what works for your body and what you're willing to do but for me it's about learning balance instead and enjoying life and not feeling like you're deprived I agree with that
Starting point is 00:50:07 and it's forever and that's why exactly yes I'll go out maybe one day I will eat a whole large pizza but you know what the next day you're going to work your butt off and you're going to eat healthy Yeah. And eating healthy doesn't mean a salad once a day. That's another can you not. When girls think not eating is going to be the answer to their problems. You know what? Not only does not eating is not the answer to the problems, but it makes you so tired. Yeah. I mean, your food is feel. If you put bad gasoline in your car, it's not going to run properly. You put bad gas in your body, bad food, bad food and it does not run. And if you let it go empty, it still doesn't run. That's a good point. So fill your body full, yummy, healthy food. And your body's going to run like it's supposed to. Our body does not run. are great machines. That's true. And our bodies are made to move. We are a sedentary lifestyle in the United States. I don't know about Canada. I don't Toronto people look really healthy. They walk everywhere. I was like they walk everywhere. They're moving. But I was like we need to move more. Everyone should have some kind of step tracker, whether it be a Fitbit or something like that. Yeah. And just keep moving. Yes, you've got to move. I like to get 20 to 30,000 a day.
Starting point is 00:51:14 And how much better do you feel, even if you find that you're, like, oh, I'm lazy and I don't have the energy and I'm not in the mood. Once you do it, you're awake. Yeah, and you feel a hundred times better. Something with when you eat clean, you feel better. You feel like. You feel like you want to move. Yeah. If you eat a heavy meal, what do you want to do? Like, when I eat pizza, I want to go to sleep. Like, what fun is that? Well, it depends who you ask. You're like, sleep all day. That's like. I'm really good at sleeping. It's one of my favorite pastimes. I get bored. Yeah. I'm like, gosh, I can go walk. Look what I can see.
Starting point is 00:51:47 See, and I go. I get so excited. I go in and out of that. Sometimes I'm like, God, I love to sleep. And sometimes I'm like, God, I feel so good. I just did a good workout. See, and that's me. If I'm ever tired, if I get up and move, I have a bundle full of injury.
Starting point is 00:51:59 In injury. Injury. That's, okay. So basically, keto diet, fat diets are usually not the best idea. Do what makes you feel good and moderation. And don't, think about longevity of your lifestyle, not so much of a quick fad diet. Right. You need, you've got to eat vegetables.
Starting point is 00:52:16 vegetables bottom line i hear this all the time i don't like vegetables well you have to learn to like vegetables our bodies require them i love and if you don't have energy drink beat shots oh yeah you live for your beat shots if beats could only endorse you you would be killing it because you make everybody i mean i have you done the beat shots yes yeah we've been doing well not since we've been traveling but at home i have some in the hotel if you want some yes you're so good like that yeah i got my yetti and i packed all my oatmeal see that's you're good when you're on the road for people who are on the road for people who are the road and have excuses like myself i'm like well i'm on the road i might as well just mix in a cheeseburger but you like pack egg white casserole and your blender and your beats and you just
Starting point is 00:52:58 don't pack the blender i just make everything prior to coming so i i make my beet juice with the lemon and ginger because i feel better and this is coming from a woman with two kids a full-time job a husband and makes time to work out for herself so i mean just my training schedule alone is 70 hours a week insane that's not counting any media and stories that are right every day yeah that's just that's just one job of my million jobs I feel like right now well so it's if I didn't if I didn't feel it right if I didn't feel my body right it wouldn't be able to do it so fuel your body ladies and gents um Zoe bleak would like to know what your apple cider vinegar what do you think on the apple cider vinegar trend okay so I did that for a while yeah I used to shoot it
Starting point is 00:53:45 straight out of the bottle. Yeah. And then it's like, you can't do that because it's bad for yourself, I guess you burn it. And so once I had to start mixing it, I stopped. Oh, I never thought of that. I got laid. Yeah, it can be bad. Because beet juice probably does, is more beneficial to you.
Starting point is 00:53:59 Do you find that? I never felt a difference. I'm not saying that it doesn't make a difference. I personally never felt a difference on the, on apple cider vinegar. But the beet shot, the very first one I took, like the biggest difference in the world. My stamina, my runtime drop three minutes. Well, your stamina maybe not in the bedroom, but on the treadmill. Oh, no, I could have the stamina in the bedroom.
Starting point is 00:54:22 It should have my name. Might not. Well, why do you think that is missed three times a year? Gosh. It could be me, maybe. That's amazing. I'm seeing if there's any more questions. Hannah Norval says, I always struggle with motivation when it comes to my workout.
Starting point is 00:54:40 What are tricks to make it a bit easier? Nelly Radio. Next. You know what? And you just have to decide this is important. Once you make the decision, it's important to you, then you'll do it. If until you make that decision, you're not going to do it. And that's with anything, you know, like you just have to have the right mindset and even if you're not motivated, you have to almost convince you have to, you have to convince yourself that you are. This is going to be fun. This is going to be great and I'm going to feel better after it. And then once you do it, you will. I have days like, too. I have days. I'm just like, oh, I've been working for 12 hours and I just want to lay down for me. but I know that that won't make you especially you at the end of the day you'll be like I could have done that I could have done that and I'll lay down later you know like but I'm not saying I don't have days I skip too well yeah of course we all do you have to it's it's more just like oh I lost my train of thought I don't know it's more just like doing what makes you feel good at the end of the day when you can lay down and be like I did it because you're going to sleep better you're going to feel better and you're going to feel better and you're going to feel more confident so do it hello last question oh the bachelor diaries um if you could do one workout for the rest of your life what would be but what one um one workout jumping lunges jumping lunges jumping lunges eight rounds of jumping lunges i mean i mean there's a bunch of gosh i would do
Starting point is 00:56:05 okay if i could do two okay be eight rounds of jumping lunges and then another tabata eight rounds of push-ups So then I got, then I kind of get plank pushups together. So I get all my upper body for the most part. And then I get jumping lunges with stamina and legs and core. So yeah, those are the two. And wash it down with some beet juice. You are. No, no, no, you got to do the beet juice.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Oh, be it before. But don't do it on an empty stomach. It'll make you sick. Hey, guys, I promise you that is one thing to try. You can check it out on my Instagram, Erin Opria. There you go. And I have the recipe on there and I showed you how to do it. And I have not had one person that said,
Starting point is 00:56:41 Oh, that didn't change. So this came from a girl that was a songwriter, and she was writing song. She was a client of mine. She's a big songwriter in Nashville. And she was writing songs, and she's like, I drink beet juice for energy. And I was like, what? I started reading about it. And there's so much science behind it.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Because you love coffee, too. Yeah, coffee shops are like my jam. Yeah, they are your jam. But beet juice over coffee? If I was going to say for, yes. Not the, not flavor. No, no, no. But for actual energy.
Starting point is 00:57:08 Oh, hands down. I mean, my resting heart rate dropped 10. I did a test for two weeks just to see. My resting heart rate dropped 10 numbers. Wow. Really? Yeah. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:57:19 My kids do it before they play soccer. But don't do it on an empty stomach and try to do an hour to an hour and a half for you exercise. And get the recipe on your Instagram. Yeah. It's posted several weeks ago, but not too long ago. You find it. You can find it. And also buy your book, 4x4 diet.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Yeah. Can people get it on Amazon? Yeah, you get on Amazon. Barnes and Noble. Perfect. Okay. Go get that. Come to our city strong events.
Starting point is 00:57:44 It's so much fun. I know. I cannot believe it's been a year. I can't either. It really doesn't. I mean, I guess it goes fast when you do once a month. We did a couple with a couple of months. Oh yeah, that's true.
