Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Grape Therapy: Bach to School with Spencer Swies

Episode Date: September 1, 2022

If you’re looking to gain some serious knowledge, this is the episode for you! OK, we’re talking about Bachelor Nation knowledge, but isn’t that potentially even more important than wha...t we learned in class? First up, Kaitlyn’s producers are helping her earn her honorary bachelor’s degree by answering some truly tough Bachelor Nation trivia questions. Then, this season’s Spencer Swies joins KB from Portugal (while she’s in Canada… how international!) to give her all the behind the scenes deets of this current season. What really went down with Logan’s covid sitch? Will we be seeing Spencer on Bachelor in Paradise? Does he agree that he looks like Shrek in human form? We’re also learning about who Spencer is outside of his four minutes of TV time, including his military background and his dad Tim, AKA his style icon and Gabby’s potential BFF. Starting point is 00:01:30 Welcome to your weekly session. Caitlin and friends are here to share unfiltered advice, lots of laughs, and some major breakthroughs. So put your feet up, pop a cork, and get ready for some grape therapy. Welcome to grape therapy, everybody. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow, and guess what? I sounded really excited there. Guess what?
Starting point is 00:01:55 Your session is now starting. Here we go, earning your bachelor's degree. Okay, so we have a new little segment we're going to play today, and it is brought to you by Virgin Voyages. And I'm sure you guys are familiar because, one, I've talked about them on the pod before, and two, they've been featured on this season of The Bachelorette. And did you guys see that everyone in the audience for the Mentel all got vouchers? Like, I'm so jealous.
Starting point is 00:02:20 I actually wanted to go on a cruise. I actually never wanted to go on a cruise until I read about Virgin Voyages. Okay. Madison, Alicia, what are we doing? So we were thinking, like, since you never got your bachelor's degree, we thought this could kind of be like a Taylor Swift type thing. You know how, like, NYU gave her an honorary doctorate? Yeah, this is my comeback.
Starting point is 00:02:40 This is, yeah, this is your way to, like, finally get that degree. Okay. But it's, it's just specific to, like, the show. So we're not going to, we're not going to test you on any knowledge other than Bachelor Nation. Okay, I should be, if I don't pass this, then... You know what? You're fired.
Starting point is 00:02:57 You'll be fired. I was never meant to do anything educational. Alicia, do you want to read off my pun I came up with? I was hoping you were going to give me that line. Thank you. Yeah, go for it. Caitlin, I think you're really going to cruise through this quiz. I think we were both just fired.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Alicia winked at me after she said it like that was, like, she was flirting. I was like, what? I just dropped a line on you. Oh, that was pretty impressive, guys. Yeah. Okay, so let's get into the quiz. Okay. So we're going to start off with some early days of The Bachelor.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Who was the second runner-up on Emily Maynard's Bachelorette season? second runner up the third person out third mm-hmm oh snap this is jason and i were actually laughing about this the other day because i was like can you remember any of the like third people on the seasons and he was like uh jason tardick and i was like oh yeah um i know it was jeff with one f r e and i have no idea wait give me a hint give me a hint okay i mean it's it's man um and um and he is successfully coupled he's a huge success in the franchise yes chris kikowsky no we'll give you three guesses because he was the third wait was he a bachelor did he
Starting point is 00:04:48 turn into the bachelor oh sean low there you go totally actually forgot Sean was on Emily's season. I thought Emily was on his. Okay. I got it. Well, I think that's like a job point, but you know. Yeah. Are we tailying this? Are we keeping I don't know. I don't even know what it's out of. But yes, we are. That was a half point. Alicia. Okay. What did Chris Solz's contestant? Soulses? Solz. Sol's. It's or Solzis. You can go either way, I think, when it ends in an S. Okay. What did Chris Solz contestant Ashley S thinks she found in a bush oh uh an onion oh yes well yeah you were on that season so that was probably yeah i was there and i remember it was hilarious it was like she it was like a pomegranate or something and she thought it was an onion i loved her i freaking loved her on that season oh yeah she made that
Starting point is 00:05:43 season for sure really did i can i can hear you by i made that season oh shit well just uh cut that out. Actually, Caitlin, you made that season. How many seasons of The Bachelor were released before the Bachelorette started? Oh, that's a good question. Thank you. Well, Bachelor Bob had Trista on and that's when the first Bachelorette was and he was the four. I'll give you one more guess for a half point. Well, I know he wasn't third because I think Jesse Palmer was. Um, five. Two. Kay, you know what's crazy?
Starting point is 00:06:26 I was actually going to say two originally. And I was like, nah, there had to be more than that. Noted. How many seasons of the show have ended without a winner? Two? Every time I answer, you guys just stare at me like, no, bitch. Idiot. Idiot.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Okay, wait, let me actually think about this. How many did not end with the winner? Like, they went home alone. Mm-hmm. One. Nailed it. I thought maybe there is more than one, but, yeah, one. I feel like she should get a full point for that because she got the name.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Like, she, like, answered it right? Yes. All right. All right. Full point. Which contestant on this current season of The Bacheloretts worked at Mavericks, which is the bar where I was watching the show? And you can earn a bonus point on this question by saying what his limo entrance was.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Oh, shoot. Is that Spencer? No. No. No. No. No. I know this one.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Okay, give me five names to choose from, and I'll pick the right one. Okay. I got five names for you. Was it, Tino, Jason, Jordan, James. or Jacob. Oh, that made it harder. Some are Jay Names. Jordan.
Starting point is 00:07:58 No, it was Jacob. He was on the horse and he was wearing a shirt. Oh, I'm indingling. I did know that. Okay, well, you know what? This just goes to show how hard it is to connect to these guys this season. There's too many people doing too many things. And they all have names that start with Jay, apparently.
Starting point is 00:08:18 This is tough. Well, that might help. you on this next question, though. So what is Meatball's real name? Jack. Jeff. Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy, John. No. Joseph. Why don't you choose from the list you had prior? Justin. Jerry. John.
Starting point is 00:08:46 This reminds me of Ted. All right, Brandy, Heather, Channing, Brianna, Amber, Sabrina, Melody, Dakota, Sierra, Bambi, Crystal, Samantha, Autumn, Ruby, Taylor, Tyra, Tammy. Joe. Joey. Gosh. Do you, okay, so do you want the list again? Yeah, I give me the list. Okay. Choose from the same five.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Tino, Jason, Jordan, James, or Jacob. James. Yeah. Half point. She got a half point for that. Okay, never mind. Point. I'm going to give you a 0.25.
Starting point is 00:09:30 You have to get this one. Who said the words, You're forking gorgeous after exiting the limo? He came out, oh, Tino. Mm-hmm. The forklift, the tractor, the construction machine. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Okay. Yeah, and I think you're going to get this one, too. So who was the person who spoke the iconic words, baby back bitch? I do know. I do know. She's not Googling. Does it start with a J? No.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Eason. Nailed it. I did have to Google that one. I did know who it was, but I had to Google his name. Which lead or contestant? a little tricky, went blonde for the Menthal All. And we're referring to this season. Oh, you know this.
Starting point is 00:10:28 You know this. This season? Someone showed up. Honestly, it was the most shocking thing of the episode. We don't know if he did it because he dyed his hair or he did it just like because he has magic. stupid i know i was worse that was worse than the cruise i know it's not my day on fire he went blonde i need to google this no this is him blonde wait i'm dying it's like no he looks like donnie osman with blonde hair oh yeah yeah but why didn't you think he looked like that before when
Starting point is 00:11:18 his hair wasn't blonde. Right. That's the concern. Now, I just never thought of it until I saw blonde. You know how my brain works. It's not right up there. And he's going to need some serious purple shampoo because that's going to go brassy real quick. Interesting. Interesting choice. Well, best of luck to you, Roby. I have a guy if you need some products. Okay, this season for the first time, contestants traveled around via cruise ship, as we are now very familiar with, Virgin Voyages. But what specific ship was featured? Oh, shoot, I do know this one. Am I going to remember it?
Starting point is 00:12:01 Probably not. All aboard the... Does it start of the B? No. No, but it starts with a letter that rhymes with a B. Mm-hmm. D? There's so many letters that rhymes.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I'm with B-E-F-G-H-H-G, okay. P. T. There's so many. Oh, I was going to say it starts with the same letter as vagina. Oh, that's not where I was going. Oh, I thought you were going to say that was, and I was going to say, whoa. It starts with the same letter as Virgin Voyages?
Starting point is 00:12:37 Yes, that's what I was going to say. That was more on brand. Venezuelan, babe. No, but baby. is close babe is close babe babe no
Starting point is 00:12:53 the second word is close don't combine them boat yes the Venezuelan boat good job no I was like oh my gosh um
Starting point is 00:13:07 the virgin no Mary we're so excited Virgin Virgin. The
Starting point is 00:13:18 Should we give you the initials? Like the first letter of each word. V and L. Valation? I don't think that's a word. Also, those were like
Starting point is 00:13:34 the letters of the two words. There's two words. Yeah, there's two words. VL. Valation. Oh. I got it. Valation.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Oh, my gosh. Okay. Just start throwing out V and L words. Vascular. Venezuel. No. Vape. Oh.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Vapor. Yeah. I mean, you're closer. Bay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I don't know if we're going to get there. The valley. What? Valley, Belle. So close. That is so close. Valley. Bonus.
Starting point is 00:14:40 It starts with L. Valley love. Volus Valley There's more to Valley Oh Valley Cove Lotus boat
Starting point is 00:14:53 Valley Valley Valley Inge Lane Light Lady Valley and Lady
Starting point is 00:15:11 Valiant lady Valiant lady Ladies and gentlemen I think you just named all of their other ships Like that's what they're going to have a whole line Your welcome version Voyages we just gave you a thousand I'll take 10%
Starting point is 00:15:30 Okay In which city And with which contestants Was the final date Before the valiant lady picked up Gabby and Rachel and two men. They were in Paris.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Correct. And the last date? Which two guys were invited to Paris? Jason and Tino. Yes. Wow. Oh, he's mad alive. Literally this whole thing is reminding me of Billy Madison when he said.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That is correct. Oh, God. Last question for your quiz. to achieve your bachelor degree. Here we go. Name two of the stops that the cruise ship has taken. Okay. Burgess and Amsterdam.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Wow. Nailed it. Yes. I'm really making up for sucking early. That was really special. Okay, hold on, let me tally up these points. I don't know what it means, but we're going to. Well, it's if I get.
Starting point is 00:16:43 How many questions were there? Because if I get like 50% I passed. Yeah, that's how college works. Okay. There is 12. And you got a 6.75. Whoa. I got my degree. Hey, I got my degree. Put it on my resume. So proud of you. Wow. Well, I don't know what you guys think, but I think I crushed it. I feel like a real, real scholar. Real gentleman and a scholar. And don't forget to learn more details about Virgin Voyages. And to book your cruise, go to virgin voyages.com or call your travel advisor. Okay, so all of my vinos know that I love spending time in the kitchen.
Starting point is 00:17:29 If you saw my Instagram story the other night, I did a whole cooking tutorial. Food and cooking is just a love language to me. And one thing that has really improved my entire kitchen experience recently is Carraway Home. actually somebody asked me where I got my pots and pans from when I was doing that Instagram story. They're so chic. I'm obsessed with all of my kitchenware. So Carraway's non-toxic kitchen wares are all designed for the modern home and feature a chemical-free ceramic coating so food can be prepared with peace of mind that no hard-to-pronounce compound will leach into your healthy ingredients. I love that. I never thought about that until Carraway. The cookware set is what
Starting point is 00:18:06 I got from them and it's perfection. It's a modern and chemical-free. iteration of the traditional 16-piece set boiled down to four essentials. So I got a fry pan, saute pan, which is what I was making on my Instagram story the other night that you probably saw sauce pan and a Dutch oven. And the naturally slick surface makes it so easy to clean, which is obviously something I love. I got my set in the cream color, but all of their colors are so pretty and chic. It was really hard to decide. And it just looks so good in the kitchen. I feel like a little professional in there. Over 25,000 people including Eels truly have raved about their caraway kitchen, and now it's time to try it for yourself.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Visit caraway home.com slash vine to take advantage of this limited time offer for 10% off your next purchase. This deal is exclusive for our listeners, so visit carawayhome.com slash vine or use code vine at checkout. Caraway, C-A-W-A-Y, non-toxic cookware made modern. All right, Bynos, my guest today was lucky enough to experience a Virgin Voyages cruise firsthand. He was almost non-existent on the season of The Bachelor, which is so unfortunate because I had the chance to get to know him better today. We talked about everything.
Starting point is 00:19:28 I just really enjoyed my conversation with him. We talked about what happened behind the scenes. We talked about his time in the military. We talked about his non-negotiable list. We just talk about his dad, who sounds like the biggest. Beauty. I just really enjoyed this conversation with him the whole way through, and I think you will, too. So enjoy my combo with, well, what is his name again? Just kidding. It's Spencer. Dude, I just sneezed five times in a row right before I got let on.
Starting point is 00:20:05 You're one of those people? One of those? You know what's funny? Usually it's like two sneezes and I'm done. And I just used five times, and I was like, what's happening? But I don't have COVID. I took a test today. We're good. I'm in Vancouver. Look at my view right now.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Oh, wow. That's a lot better than the view I have right now. I'm jealous. What are you doing in Vancouver? Well, so I lived here for 11 years. Okay. And I'm Canadian. So I just came back to visit friends.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Okay. Oh, that's very nice of you. Right? I'm such a good friend. Yeah. You're a great friend. I'll let everybody know. Everyone knows.
Starting point is 00:20:40 You're in Portugal, aren't you? Yeah, actually, I am in Portugal. I'm taking like a pre-grad student trip just before classes start. So I'm with like 20 classmates that I haven't really met before. So we're all just kind of, we just met at the airport coming here and we're exploring Portugal. It's been awesome. It's been a good time. Are people like, holy shit, you're that dude from The Bachelor?
Starting point is 00:21:03 A few people recognized or didn't recognize me. Like they knew who I was from like just being in like the little WhatsApp chat. but they didn't they were like super respectful they didn't say anything and they were just like super casual about it like they didn't even bring it up until like yesterday they're like you're that guy right and i was like yeah yeah i'm that guy that was on on the show for four minutes over six episodes you're the guy that was it didn't get a lot of screen time but did get a lot of attention for your facial hair on the mental yeah yeah i don't know why that why that was such a deal Maybe it's because Jesse
Starting point is 00:21:38 Jesse noticed it at first And he said it I actually still haven't even watched The Men's Tell All Just because I've been like over here It aired at like 2 a.m. this time That was the bar at that time I still haven't seen it
Starting point is 00:21:49 I've just seen some clips Like I've seen me fall before himself Again but yeah I got sent me a couple times No Jesse commented He was like dude I love it I was like thank you I really appreciate that Jesse
Starting point is 00:22:00 Jesse Jesse's like my like male idol of fashion So I'll take that He's your male idol of fashion. Yeah, he did it. I wore, I wore lupitons on one of the dates. I'm not one-on-one with Gabby. He's like the only one who noticed. I was like, this is the guy. This is it. Yeah, okay. He gets it. I mean, he's also Canadian, so he's also a very good human. Yes, yes, that's what that means, transit of property. Yeah, exactly. After all of this whirlwind, you're going to just go take some classes and go to school. Yeah, all this whirlwind. Pretty much.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Yeah, I mean, that was generally always the plan. It'll be a little bit different, and that's one of the things from being on the show. I've just kind of, it's like a learning process. And you, as being a lead, it's probably experienced this more than I have for sure. But people who don't even know you just already have an opinion about you, it could be good, could be bad. And it's just kind of on you to show them who you really are. Again, four minutes of screen time maybe benefited me in this situation. But, yeah, that's the only thing that'll be a little bit weird.
Starting point is 00:23:07 But no, I am, I'm very lucky to be able to do what I'm doing and going to the University of Chicago school business. That's, I got really lucky. Again, some of these classmates that I'm with here are, some, they're with kids, super smart. They're like running circles around me already, talking about this and that, their past careers. So I kind of on me to learn from them, right? Now that's kind of my lane.
Starting point is 00:23:32 And hopefully I can teach some things as well. but how are you going to stay focused because you're going to get a lot of attention you're going to get a lot of attention from the ladies i see it i see it all the time with guys coming off this show where all of a sudden they think they're just god's gift to the earth women are just throwing themselves at them but you're actually doing something different and you're going back to school you're so what is your plan like how are you going to remain humble and focus and like what do you want to do with your life? after this opportunity.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Oh, that's a loaded question, Caitlin. That's a good one, though. Thanks. You've done this before. Yeah. I honestly, I don't like really even think I'll have the time to think about anything other than school for at least the first couple months. Yeah, it is kind of relieving in a way.
Starting point is 00:24:25 I'm someone who like really likes having things to do and work hard. And so there's just like taking, you know, micro-econ and that, and stuff. I don't really have the time to, like, be doing, like, much other things, right, that maybe some other people get to do based on their roles in what they, their normal lives are after the show. Some people are, like, Spence. Like, you, like, make a TikTok, post three times a day. Like, I was like, dude, I don't even know how to make a reel. Like, I have no clue, like, what social media is. Like, you know, I barely spent on the gym before this. Yeah, I, like, people who follow me, like, I hope I can give you guys some good content
Starting point is 00:25:00 every now and then, but I, like, don't even have a real. I'm so small. so even not starting school like I'm not going to have the time to even like focus on those kind of things which is nice and it'll be a lot right because there's other other guys from the show who live in Chicago Mario Nate Colin Tremaine specifically but so they'll be like going out and wanting to do stuff and I love hanging out with them a lot but for me I'm just kind of focused on you know my long term professional career and that's that's kind of where booth kind of has has my heart for sure right now. I love hearing that. Good for you. And do we ship, you hang out with Nate a lot. Do we ship him as being the next bachelor? I feel like there's a lot of buzz about that.
Starting point is 00:25:46 There's a lot of buzz, yeah. He really is, and it's tough, again, and I think you've definitely experienced this with being the lead. You have this edit about you on the show, and you have things in your people in your past who are like, no, like Mitt Romney was like running for president. and it was a big deal that some guy in high school said he bullied him in high school, you know, like four years ago.
Starting point is 00:26:05 And there are things that happen, right? And it's tough to deal with. Again, I had four minutes because no one's coming out of the woodwork being like, this guy sucks. Fingers crossed for now. For now. Yeah, for now. I think, you know, Nate, he's always treated me with dignity and need a respect.
Starting point is 00:26:21 And he's taking care of me as a human. I didn't know him before, you know, the show. I can judge his character now. I really truly do think he means well. Mm-hmm. You know, what happened in the past, I think that he, the men's call all, right, I don't know what they, exactly what they showed, but I know that they addressed it. And I think he did a good job of addressing it. So, however it shapes out, if Nate wants to do it, if Bachelor Nation wants him, fully support it.
Starting point is 00:26:46 If he doesn't want to do it, also supports that. It's all about being in the right mental head space. Oh, that is so true. Being, yes. And I like, watching the leads, watching Gabby and Rachel be the leads of this is, it, it's, it, it's, it, it's, it. extremely taxing and just mentally draining um you know sometimes the one-on-ones they go pretty late right um and you know i may do that once or eric may do that once right but they're doing that every day and then they have crafts and all these things so it's a taxing thing is definitely
Starting point is 00:27:19 to be the right mental head space i totally give anybody respect who's the lead of this series yeah it's it's so challenging i mean it's just in every way exhausting and draining and um i feel like you have to show up in different ways for different people, so you're constantly, like, being a chameleon and changing, like, your personality for what the other person needs. Like, some people might be more shy, so you have to, like, bring something out of them, and other people might be funny. You want to keep up with them, and other people are a little more reserved, so you want to hold back. And it's, yeah, it is truly exhausting.
Starting point is 00:27:48 But also, were you offended that I called you Human Shrek? Because let me preface this by saying, that's a good-looking man. I'm not saying the ogre Shrek. I'm saying when he turns into the handsome prince. The handsome prince, yeah, I, okay, I appreciate that. I don't know if that was you on the other end of that, of that text exchange or not, or so that was your producer. Yes, it's all of us, but that's me.
Starting point is 00:28:13 All right, for everyone listening and you're watching, so I guess Katelyn made, like, a reel about one of the episodes and, like, tag me and, like, some people are saying this guy looks like you in Shrek, and I was, I, like, the DM came through, for some reason it came in as, like, two messages, so I was like, oh, like, two messages. to just like what's up like this is incredible like like wild um you know at this point i was like whoa uh so and i got quick to i was like i was like yo like guys like best friends like dude i got to see like i don't know like what to say and so i opened it and it was just like like i listened to i was like oh it's a real okay and then i opened it and they just talk about
Starting point is 00:28:48 movies and looking like a cartoon and so i was like damn i like thought this was like going to be super sick um i i'm sorry appreciate you guys taking the time to tag me but it was no it was hilarious. I was like, I was like, what's the only way to respond to this is, like, through a meme. So, like, I, I've made a meme back at, that's all I sent, I guess, back. It's so good. Oh, yeah, a message from Caitlin Bristow. Kind of looks like that guy with the happy and the set and in the shock face. Yeah, I was, uh, so I was like, I guess this is how I have to do this. This is how I'm going to handle, handle bad press. I don't think I DM'd anyone else from the season. So there you go. You were my one DM that I slid into and said
Starting point is 00:29:28 you look like the human shrek but i said that to jason the other day i was like he looks like human shrek and jason was like that is so mean and i was like no not the ogre the actual and then i showed him the picture and he was like holy shit it's true i feel like this is what people do though like once you go on tv everyone wants to compare you to someone else you look like oh you look like this person oh you look like this character everyone does like disney princes and like everybody looks like somebody. So didn't somebody, or has anybody told you Clark Kent? Actually, yeah. Gabby's handler from the show actually called me that behind the scenes, which was absolutely endearing. That's a compliment of all time.
Starting point is 00:30:11 That's a great thing. But yeah, I actually didn't see that one too much so on like Twitter, right? I saw someone compared me to like the angry bird with like the big eyebrows, like the red anger, that you're angry. Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. Yeah. Yeah, I got that one. I got Dave Franco a couple times. Really?
Starting point is 00:30:28 And which I like to be like the red cheeks. I guess without the facial hair. The red cheeks? Does James Franco have flushed cheeks? He does a little bit. Oh. I don't know. Dave Frankl, like you're listening, I guess.
Starting point is 00:30:41 He definitely is listening. He definitely listens to my podcast. Big fan of Off the Vine. He's a big off the vine guy. That's, well, we, us women have to wear makeup to do that. So you're lucky. No, I, it was actually, it was, going into the, into the show, I assume that contestants would also, like, get, like, you know, some sort of, like, makeup and, like, hair checked out
Starting point is 00:31:04 before, like, a rose ceremony or something. No, it's just like, you're on your own. You're doing your thing. And that's just the way it is, in a way that makes it a little bit more raw, and I like that. But when we did the men tell all, the, you know, the nice hair ladies came by and they, like, put some little. my hair. Yeah, Kathy, she's my homie. She came by and, like, did this thing. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:31:26 damn, this is awesome. This is what it's like. You got a little special treatment there. What are they buttering you up for? Are you on Paradise? Do you show up late? Oh, you know, you know, I can't confirm or deny that. But do you think I, I should, should or would go? Yeah. Does that look like someone who would be there? Well, I'm trying to think of, I mean, y'all are just catches on the show. Like, everybody. is good looking and has great personalities and you're picked for the show for a reason. But if you went, oh my gosh, now I want to look up all the girls and see who I could picture you with.
Starting point is 00:32:00 But I definitely think that would be a hard yes, because I keep here, like, everyone that I've done it all, I went bachelor, bachelorette hosting, and I was like, I missed out on Paradise and everyone's like, that's the most fun. So I'm always like, okay, then yes, you should go on Paradise if that opportunity. well it's too late now if you haven't but yes yeah no it definitely definitely seems like a good time just from the the seasons i've i've watched in the past um you're good i'm trying to read you right now no it definitely definitely seems a good time um it seems like a different kind of environment right um so it would um it would be would be fun it's a complete different environment where you actually
Starting point is 00:32:48 get to like spend time with people and friends and the person that you like so but let's let's talk about the mental all for a second on a scale of one to ten how awkward was it i just think it's awkward to sit up there with everybody and have like people like roby fight for screen time so hard when he like wasn't a big part of the show yeah it was i guess that that part was maybe slightly awkward at least for me someone who isn't maybe as as gregarious or talks a lot as others and so to hear people like absolutely talking over on the show generally like if if you're talking you're talking no one no one interrupts you right but there that like you have to speak up if you want to say something right so initially i was i was just like stunned and roby who i didn't get to
Starting point is 00:33:40 know too well i got him to know like that that night he was a great guy yeah doing them through the magic trick um but then when he was just showing up and talking talking crap to a whole bunch of dudes i was like what is going on like is this how this goes um and that's how it goes yeah i guess so i just feel like when people do that i'm like i get secondhand embarrassment where i'm like oh no no this is not like are you trying to just like get more followers or are you trying to just like get screen like there's got to be a reason you're doing that because otherwise like you really have no business speaking i guess he watched but like i'm like you were there i'm like that person that sits at home that acts like i've never been on the show before and i think everything's real and i'm
Starting point is 00:34:23 screaming at the tv i'm such good put yourself in the mind of the mind of the viewer i uh no i think i think that if if they didn't go to paradise already they were probably trying to get some screen time for for future paradise uh and like roby specifically right um i mean he showed up with bleach blonde hair and, like, tried to talk a lot. I was like, okay. I'll give him credit on that. I could not pull that off, but I think he does. Personal opinion.
Starting point is 00:34:52 He actually, it's a beautiful color, too. Like, I was like, oh, that's a really nice blonde. I would like to know who he went to in case I go back blonde because that was quite nice. I was disappointed that Hayden and Chris were not there because usually the men tell all is, like, super dramatic. And you have the villains going nuts. and the villains weren't there. Do you know why they weren't there? I don't know if you're allowed to say or like if you even know why, but were they not invited?
Starting point is 00:35:19 No, I'll do my best. I'm under the assumption that they were definitely invited. I don't know why, you know, ABC wouldn't want them there, right? There's a focal points of certain episodes. Totally. I wish that they were there. And I say that because I give Logan a lot of respect for showing up and being in the hot seat and taking questions from guys
Starting point is 00:35:43 even guys who were bringing stuff up from like outside the show which which is kind of wild but yeah Logan he he did well and what he did personally I don't think was was like that crazy it was not the worst thing vaccination has ever seen but still he was there right it was a focal point and he took questions and he did it and I think that that's what you know Hayden and Chris should have done
Starting point is 00:36:04 and it would have given them an opportunity to stay their peace right I think they're probably frustrated maybe at the general experience. I'll say that. But I think that they should have been there to kind of give their side, right? Maybe something happened. Maybe Debbie or Rachel said something on the side that, you know, hey, no one knows because they didn't use it. I don't know. But that would have been like the time. It's their opportunity to stand up for themselves, give an apology, be like a decent human being to like show up and say like, you know what, I fucked up or I did something wrong or I take it back and watching back. I've learned from it. And like, I
Starting point is 00:36:40 wish people like that showed up like Logan did to even just acknowledge the situation or have a different perspective or give us a different perspective as a viewer. So yeah. Oh, they were there. They would have got a set of a piece or just apologize. Usually in vaccination just from what I've seen of other people, right? I've never been in a scenario where I've had to like extremely apologize like fingers crossed. But that like you just go there and like apologize. Maybe not even justify your actions. Just just apologize and like work on. being a better person and get off the stage. An apology really does
Starting point is 00:37:15 go a long way. If you mean it. Like if you are genuinely, sincerely sorry, I just said that's so Canadian because I feel like my Canadian accent comes back out when I'm home. I was going to say something there if you didn't bring it up. I totally just heard it.
Starting point is 00:37:33 I can hear the story. Sorry. But yeah, I think they definitely should have done that. Okay. And obviously, like Nate and Logan got the hot seats, which I thought were more lukewarm seats. They weren't like super hard-hitting questions. But what the hell happened to Logan with COVID? Like, from your experience, how did that unfold in real time?
Starting point is 00:37:52 Because one of my favorite parts is when Jesse came in and told you guys that he wasn't there and everything is canceled. And you were like, can we know if he's okay? Like, did they tell you he had COVID? How did that unfold? That was, it was definitely strange for us guys because we walked in and he was not with us when they told us, you know, when they gathered us to go, all right, Tyga, it's time for the party.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Yeah. Wasn't with us. So we sat there for a good, good while just drinking our drinks and, you know, assuming he was running behind, he was sticking his hair. Right. But when Jesse came in and told us, yeah, we were obviously confused. And honestly, our main concern was, like, knowing if he was okay. Right.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Just because Jesse said it so ominously, right? The internet is so funny because I was there and I, based on my experience, I firmly believe and believed he did have COVID. Yeah. But with all these internet theories, like, if you go on Reddit, people are like not crazy in like the crazy sense, but the dedication to trying to prove something that they think is a conspiracy is, it's wild. And I respect that. So you guys, the theories that are out there, like, makes me doubt. my own experience and I was there. It's in fact of, kudos to, like, the Reddit people and, like, Twitter for, like, discovering
Starting point is 00:39:17 all these connections. No, I'm telling you, the Reddit community, I always say if someone goes missing or if someone's murdered or, like, I'm not going to the police. I'm going to the Reddit community because they will figure it out. Oh, this person's hat was in the background of this photo and that means that these people must still be together after X amount of time or, you know, they're not together. It's crazy. It, like, really is, like, what people are, like, are so attuned to.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Even right now, I get scared to, like, bring up my left hand because I'm not wearing my engagement ring. And I'm like, oh, fuck, here we go. People are going to see, like, a clip from this. And they're going to be like, she's not wearing her engagement ring. Oh, God. But did the producers end up telling you that he had COVID? We eventually found out.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Oh, okay. Okay. So we weren't completely in the dark until, yeah, we weren't completely in the dark until, because, I mean, we were concerned and they could tell we were concerned. So after some amount of time, yeah, they did tell us what the case was, especially because the rose ceremony was, you know, the day after the next, the day after the, whatever it was. Well, again, why he, like, you know, he wasn't going to be joining us because it's a pivotal moment, right, the rose ceremony before, before town. So how did you guys not all get COVID? You're all, it's like, how did you, you're all making out with the same person, you're all around each other, you're just like sleeping in the same rooms. It's like a miracle that it just didn't go spread everywhere.
Starting point is 00:40:44 Oh, yeah, it was weird. So that day, we were laying down on our backs and Gabby was like pouring like hot wax on Johnny and all this stuff, which was hilarious, by the way. Yeah, she was giving, like, kissing all of us that she would do something. And I just vividly remember, like, Logan was to my left. she like gave Logan a kiss and then she went and got like whipped cream and then gave me a kiss. So there was like in about seven seconds, yeah, in about like seven seconds that like that transaction happened. And so when I found out I was, I was just, I'm, that's it. I'm, I'm 100% I'm going to have COVID. I somehow, I don't know if the whipped cream added some sort

I want to get to know you a little bit more because we didn't have the pleasure of getting to know you enough on the show. So I know you were in the military and I wanted to, first of all, thank you for your service. I have so much respect for you and everyone who has, you know, served in the armed forces. How do you think that experience, like, kind of changed your outlook on life or how you approach life now?
Starting point is 00:43:52 Wow. I did not expect this on off the vine today. Okay. I know. I just went from like COVID making out with different dudes to like some hard-hitting questions. I've always appreciated, you know, I always think that you could, if you are able to get back in some way, doesn't have to be military service. Not everyone's able to get back in some way. If you're able to do and you find yourself, you know, yep, I want to join the military. I think it's a great thing to do. You should do it. Again, you don't have to, it's not for everybody. It's just my path.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Right, right. Just because I appreciate, I come from somewhat of a military family. So it just kind of made sense, made sense for me in that light. But also, I grew up in an amazing part of the country, great neighborhood. You know, you're riding your bike at night and there's no worries, you know, you're doing your thing. And also, like, most of my friends in high school, I was on the swim team, right? So swim team, track team, most of my friends were, like, they look like me, right? They were mostly just kind of like same education, same socioeconomic status, generally white.
Starting point is 00:44:58 And that was kind of my friend. Being in the military and going through this whole process for nine years, I have met, interacted with led or bed led by someone of every nationality, ethnicity, personality, all over the country. And I think that that experience is just extremely valuable. going forward for the rest of my life. I've appreciated everything that I've learned. And I think that's just what I'm most thankful for for my service and just kind of change my outlook on life. Is that, you know, we're America, regular United States.
Starting point is 00:45:33 We do have problems. Yeah. But we have some pretty incredible people. And I'm just like extremely thankful to, you know, be a part of it. Did not expect to answer that question. I'm sorry. I totally threw you off, but I really like that answer. Usually off the vine is just like whatever the shit comes out of my mouth, which you never know what you're going to get.
Starting point is 00:45:52 But I wanted to acknowledge that because I think it's important to acknowledge. And I thought that was something I wanted to thank you for. No, I thank you for your support. Not everybody, the defense budget's too high, all these things. So not everybody is like fully on board and that's okay. But no, I really appreciate it. And just generally like being in the military, I just, you know, have a greater appreciation for just like life in general. totally i could imagine bad things can happen uh luckily not to me um but it bad things are possible
Starting point is 00:46:23 and so just kind of live in every every moment of life to the fullest um totally trying to that's why my voice is horse in lisbon um trying trying to live it up uh the bars here pretty late you know what i actually really want to make my own tv show called katelyn goes back to college because i i did not get that opportunity i i I, so I graduated high school, barely, and I never went to college. Luckily, everything worked out fine for me. But I was like, I missed out on some serious college days. And I feel like Caitlin goes back to college would be a very entertaining TV show.
Starting point is 00:47:01 I also agree. Where would you go? Oh, oh, that's a good question. I don't know, because I'm Canadian. I don't know, like, all the college. All the college, would you go to, would you, I guess let's go by conference, right? SEC like somewhere in the south or like probably like what like USC UCLA I see that in you really yeah what's the what's the like biggest party one uh ooh I don't you I'm
Starting point is 00:47:29 people from USC and UCLA are gonna I honestly I would say you see LA but USC I've been there a few time it's pretty close okay I'll go to either one of those I maybe I'll just pop around And there's both like world-class, world-class institutions, too. So, like, they're kind of like University of Michigan in that sense, world-class institution, but also they like the party and can get after it. So they'd be like, Caitlin, you aren't, you don't have what it takes to come in here. I'd be like, oh, I'm just here to party. Yeah, I'm just, I'll, yeah, I'm just kind of here.
Starting point is 00:48:02 Yeah, no, I think that you'd be a social chair, the sorority. Right? I think so, too. You said you come from a military family. What was your family's thoughts on you going on The Bachelorette? Oh, wow. My dad was all about it at first. When I told him, his first response was like, all right, we got to play in your office. Like, my son is going to be looking good on television. You're my son. Yeah. My dad is known as like the fashion guy in like the social circles that we exist in back home. So maybe you need to take back who your icon is. Maybe it's not Jesse. Maybe it's your dad. Yeah, that's true. My dad is number number one. He knows that. But yeah, he's.
Starting point is 00:48:43 he's got like this all the shoes he'll wear like cocktail shoes so they'll like buy for like one party and he'll wear that and it's been to it in the closet ever since oh my god what is your dad's name Tim. Tim. Obsessed Tim. Yeah he um yeah he's he's a he's a king in it of itself so he was like yeah my son's gonna be looking good we're gonna do this planned out a whole bunch of outfits all this stuff I was more stressed I got more stress be on the phone with him like no I'm not going to take this suit he's like why don't you going to say awesome. He thought it was great. Aside from the fashion stuff, he thought it was great. I definitely give off more of an introverted vibe, I think initially when people meet
Starting point is 00:49:24 me, but he knows me as like an extroverted, you know, because we're so close. So he thought, you know, I think it's great. You're going to do awesome. You know, maybe you'll, you'll meet a girl, right? Yeah. My mom was just hesitant at first because she just, she's a mom and she's just like, she's like, yeah, what can happen? Like, you make. You know, Maybe people won't like you. Like, you know, poor people are not going to like my son, you know, my boy, right? And so, and I give her like motherly credit for that. But once I convinced her, you know, that I will be okay, she was fully on board.
Starting point is 00:49:59 So I got the. So they went to, your dad would not have been like Tino's dad. Honestly, we joke about this, but if I was out of hometown, I feel like Gabby and my dad, Tim, would have just been like yapping it up the whole time. and, like, I would have not gotten, continued to not get any screen time because, like, my dad would just be, like, talking to Gabby about, like, random stuff. And, like, I would just be sitting there. Are your parents still together? They are. I'm very lucky that they are.
Starting point is 00:50:28 Yeah, they got engaged. They met December 19th. And they got engaged 11 days later when the ball dropped. And they had been together 30 years. Holy shit. So they were probably like, yeah, you could meet someone and fall in love in, like, a short amount of time and get engaged. They got it, right? And that was my other argument to my mom.
Starting point is 00:50:47 I was like, Mom, like, you guys got engaged in 11 days. Like, you know. Yeah, it can happen. Come on, right? It can happen. Tell them to tell Tino's dad that. He needs to hear a little love story like that. I did.
Starting point is 00:51:00 I didn't watch the live men's toll all. So I saw some text coming through and tweets and stuff just like the next morning. And I was like, what is up with this? Because I followed, I followed Bachelor data. the girl who makes like all these all that stuff she's a genius she's a queen i love her yeah yeah i do too she yeah she's super nice so i thought she did like a like tino's dad called me out and i was like what what is what's going on like how is batch of data involved in drama she just like produces grass right yeah and so i looked at i was like damn like how did like rachel make it out of
Starting point is 00:51:36 there alive right and and it like tino like tino's dad could have very nicer. I'll say that. He was, he was living by, you know, like reality rules, like real life, you know, rules. And those don't apply to the bachelorette. And those don't apply on the show. Like, your son made the decision to go on this journey, which has a certain timeline to it. And, you know, if your son decides to go, as a dad, you want the best for your son, but it's your job to support him. In my opinion, I hope my dad would have supported me in that scenario, right? Tim would have for sure.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Yeah, based on what you know, I, Cotty appreciates that. I'll tell them to listen specifically to this minute. So, yeah, and honestly, like, again, I don't really interworking of Tino's family. I just think that Rachel, she's putting herself out there, and she's going through a lot. And I think that I wish that worked in town with the Tino family was better.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Okay, before I let you go, I just want to know. Let's hypothetically say you went on paradise or you didn't. You're obviously in a position where I believe you're ready to find the love of your life. And I'm a big non-negotiable list maker. This is my non-negotiable list and this is my boundary and I don't want anything. I said that, but I also said I didn't ever want to date a bachelor guy again and I'm engaged to one. So what would be on your non-negotiable list? Like things that you're like, no, absolutely not. I would say, I think that just, like, my biggest thing for a relationship is just built on, like, trust. Like, you could not text for, you know, like, she can go to the bachelor's party and I can go to, like, the game with the guys.
Starting point is 00:53:25 And we just chat it all all night. And, like, the next morning we just, like, talk like normal. That would be, like, my ideal relationship. I think, you know, the red flag is, like, you know, who are you with? What are you doing? Like, all these things, like, the need for constant attention, I think is just, like, an issue, and, like, just kind of turns me off in a certain way. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:53:44 And I've probably done that in the past, too, right? I'm not, like, a perfect human either. But that's, like, that's a big red flag. If someone constantly needs that attention to that validation, like, knowing where I am or, like, do you still like me, all these things? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. You just wants, you want somebody to be, like, established and solid on their own, and then you're just, like, a little added bonus to them.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Yeah, you're, like, you fit together. Yeah. So, let's say you. and Gabby did work and at the end of all this, I think the bachelor, like a foundation like that to start on is what usually destroys relationships coming out of this show. You start on a very shitty foundation where you were making out with other guys, you were building relationships with other guys. How do you think you would have handled that with that kind of foundation if she was like, like you're watching it back being like, oh my God, I didn't even know, but you were totally
Starting point is 00:54:36 in love with somebody else. And then you picked me. How would you do? with that. Good question, especially because, you know, you do make friends on the show. So you'll see, you know, if I was, you know, engaged to Gabby right now, I'd be watching all this back and be like, dang, she's like her and, you know, so and so, though, pretty good making out together. Like, what did I? Like, what? I would definitely start to question that. And it would be hard. You definitely have to be emotionally mature to go on this show and you can't just go on the show and not know, you can still, like, not know some things about yourself. but you definitely have to be content with who you are and trust the feeling that you get from
Starting point is 00:55:14 someone else. It would definitely have been hard for me. I'm not saying I would have done it easily. I give, you know, the people credit who are able to do that. But it would have been hard. But yeah, I mean, if you end up, you know, with someone like Gabby, you just have to trust that she's so emotionally mature enough, you know, right? She's had that experience and then everyone sees it, right? she's incredible she gets it yeah she's she's there you know fully mentally and physically so you just have to trust have to trust her that yeah you know she she's a love at you i don't know there's no rules there's no rules no rules um okay and then last but not least give us your confession
Starting point is 00:56:06 high school I was still still definitely growing up in high school but I think my parents like went out of town and so one of my friends Mike was dating like a girl yeah and so I was like I was like yeah like I'm having a party tonight like you know we're gonna feel some beers from the fridge like we're doing this and so I texted Mike I was like yo like having a party tonight they're small gathering you know like how high school how cool high school parties are yeah totally like invite you know invite jenny over and like you guys can totally totally like hook up you know in like in like in this room like i got you bro like totally grown out for my boy and it turns out that i texted mike d and not mike jay mike d was my swim coach oh no
Starting point is 00:56:57 yeah so mike swim coach like twice the every day got this text about like drinking sacks all these things and I was like I yeah really bad um yeah and I was like I'm gonna get suspended like I'm I'm kind of finished for for a little bit here I didn't drink at my own like high school probably I was just like sat in silence and so the the next day he sees me and like as a 16 17 17 year that's just like embarrassing it's freaky like you don't know what's going on but he didn't say anything he like we just went about practicing at the next to meet I like the next couple of meetings that swam, like, the hardest event. He didn't tell anybody.
Starting point is 00:57:38 He just, I just got, absolutely. Yeah, I got, like, crushed in practice and had to, like, swim the worst, the worst event. You know, classic, like, classic, like, high school movie punishment, right? Like, but that's what I had. But, yeah, that was, that was pretty embarrassing. It was supposed to be, like, an awkward kind of high school kid. Like, that was, like, it was a total, like, I'm so sick, tax. But, yeah, that was, no one, no one really knows that said Mike, so.
Starting point is 00:58:05 And now everybody knows. Oh, my gosh. I'll tell him on some place to listen, so now everybody knows. Yeah. Do you still talk to Mike V? Actually, I do, yeah, from time to time. He was, yeah, being at that, at a high school, you're not just like a coach, right? You're a role model.
Starting point is 00:58:23 You know, you're someone that young kids can look up to, and he played that role pretty well. That's awesome. Well, it was an absolute pleasure getting to know you and talking to you. and I really hope to see you on the beach. And if not, next year or something. I don't know, I feel like... I'm going to put that in my Instagram bio. Caitlin Burstow says that I should go.
Starting point is 00:58:43 She hopes to see me on the beach. That's my claim of the same. Do it. Do it. I really do. I think you're awesome. And I don't know, you're like... I talk to a lot of people from Bachelor World and you just seem like very down to earth
