Here's Caitlin.
All right, welcome to Great Therapy.
I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow.
Your session is now starting.
Today in the studio, we have singer-songwriter, Broadway star, fellow Broadway star, winner of America's Got Talent.
Bianca Ryan, thank you so much for being here so early.
Oh, my goodness.
Thank you for having me.
Is this early for you?
This is, well, technically.
Are you a sleeper-inner?
Well, I'm on Eastern Time, so this is central time.
So it's technically an hour ahead.
Okay.
So when I woke up at like seven, it was technically like I'm waking up at eight.
So it wasn't so bad.
Okay.
Okay, that's not so bad.
I am like not a morning guy at all.
Oh, me either.
I don't need, like, waking up at, well, yesterday, I was.
in Houston and so I had to travel and traveling I don't know what it is just always takes it
right out of me like I'm just so pooped by the end of the day and I got in last night at like
midnight and then I can't like I can't like wind down after a flight I don't know why I'm like
sleeping on the flight and then I get home and I'm like thing like so wide awake I'm hungry I'm like
wanting to watch shows so I didn't go to bed to like two in the morning then I was up at seven
and seven is like early for me me too super early
Like 9 a.m.'s early for me.
Yeah.
I'm more of like a 9.30, 10 a.m. type of girl.
Yeah, me too.
Yeah.
Me too.
So that's, so off the air, we were talking about, um, coffee.
And you put, how many freaking sweeteners in your coffee?
So the coffee at the hotel, I just got in yesterday in Nashville's, but, um, the coffee at the hotel was not very good.
Yeah.
So, um, first I add it one equal, then I add it two, then three, four, five, six.
So I added six equal.
Six equal.
And it still didn't taste good.
And I was like, I'm just going to walk away for the sake of my health.
I'm going to suck it up.
I'm going to drink it.
Then I came here and there was hazelnut creamer and now my life saved.
You're welcome.
Usually I save people with wine, but this early.
This is so weird for me.
I'm like, I think I've done two podcasts in my whole career of podcasting without wine.
Oh, my gosh.
This being one of them.
So I don't know how this is going to go today.
I might not be on my A game because I'm drinking coffee instead of wine.
But anyways, digging your pink hair.
Thank you.
Yeah, when did you do that?
I did my hair pink about almost three weeks ago.
Yeah, I love it.
Thanks.
I was super nervous to do it.
Is it permanently pink?
Or did you just like, is it like a shampoo?
No, it's permanently pink, but I have a pink shampoo that makes it way more pink.
Yeah.
Oh, wait.
Okay, so I'm so intrigued because I, my hair's like the slightest touch of rosy pink right now.
I saw that on your story.
But I just used a shampoo.
Like, usually I use cake spray, like from Walmart, like $2 cake spray, and make my hair pinks because that pinks, see, coffee.
Because then it can wash out because I'm scared of commitment.
And so I was wondering what you did to it.
So is it like your hairstylist put a color on your hair to make it pink?
Yeah, we dyed it and then a pink shampoo.
So how hard is it to get out?
To get the dye.
I don't know.
I've never died.
Oh, yeah.
died my hair. Just kidding. It's probably super easy. I never really dyed my hair. I think I've only ever
just went blonde. I've never dyed my hair like a color. So I actually have no clue how dye works.
But how fun is it? You love having pink hair. I love it. It suits you. I'm like, you're so young
you can pull off. I'm like, Caitlin, stop trying to be in your 20s and color hair pink. You're 33 years old.
Oh my goodness. So ridiculous. But I did it because so I'm doing, I don't know when this podcast is actually
going to come out, but I'm launching a festival collection of scrunchies. Oh, by the way, I brought you scrunchy.
Oh my goodness.
And it's like a very soft, terry towels, crunchy, and it's pink, so I thought you'd like that.
Oh, my goodness.
And so I did a shoot yesterday in Houston for a festival collection.
So I was wearing, like, really out there clothing.
Yeah, those looks were fire.
I mean, you're telling me, but, like, I also stalk your life.
Right.
I forget that I put everything out there on social media.
I'm, like, telling you things you already know.
But I wanted to have pink hair or, like, slightly pink hair for the shoot.
But every time I do a photo shoot, especially with hair things, I'm, like, got to throw in extensions.
Like, I can't not have extensions.
Then I color my hair pink like an idiot
And my extensions aren't pink
And I didn't want to color my extensions pink
Because I'm only going to have this once
Yeah
And so I just you know
Tough life, Caitlin
This is real big problems I have over here
Anyways I haven't seen you since we were on
I always like saying this since we were on Broadway
Together
It sounds so weird when I say that
But that was such a fun experience
I like think about it all the time
How sad were you this year when we listen to Christmas songs
And I'm like every song I hear
I just think about being on Broadway
And I'm like, I miss it.
I know.
I really, there's nothing like being in New York for Christmas time.
I know.
So I was like literally just going through the holidays.
And I had only had like a couple shows that I was doing.
I went on like a mini tour.
But then I had to cancel a lot of shows because I got really sick in December.
So then I'm home and I'm sick.
And I'm like, oh, my goodness.
That's like you really start thinking about things.
Yeah.
I really miss working.
Yeah.
Being home in December, like for Christmas sick is probably the worst thing in the world.
It was horrible.
Yeah.
That's funny.
And what are you doing in Nashville?
I am here for the Pickler and Ben Show.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
Oh, that's fun.
So what are you going to do on the show?
I'm going to be singing.
Oh, you are.
I'm going to sing the song.
Actually, I really don't know what song I'm saying.
No, never mind.
I was just going to wing it when you get there.
I don't know.
That's what I was saying.
I'm just going to wing it because I was supposed to sing the song that I sang on AGT Champions.
Yeah.
And then we switched it to an original song, but then they want that one again.
And so we're in the middle of deciding.
We'll find that when we get there.
in a couple hours oh that's fun that you don't know yeah i would be freaking out if i didn't know what song i was
singing on tv yeah um i love kelly pickler she is so much fun oh my goodness actually ben seems like a
good time too i haven't been on their show but they're fun to watch yeah i'm really excited for that
that'll be awesome and i saw you went honky talking last night i did so much fun yeah we were out on the
oh my god that street is so cool i know like it took a lot of me to not like be irresponsible and
be partying out all night.
I don't know how I was just going to ask, like, did you go for it last night?
Did you get up on stage and sing anything?
You should have got up on stage.
Oh, my goodness.
That would like, that would actually be pretty epic.
You have to.
They let me do it.
They let me get up on stage and sing.
I just think it would be so funny if like, you're like, hey, can I sing a song?
And they are like, can you sing?
And then you get up there and you're just like belt a jam and they'd be like, shit.
Oh my goodness.
And then you'd show up the honky tonk singers and they'd be like, get off the stage.
They kick me out.
That's so fun.
Like, I feel like there's Broadway, New York, and then there's Broadway, Nashville.
Two very different Broadway is.
I've been kicked out of a honky tongue before.
Twice, actually.
That can be my confession.
I got kicked out of two honky tongs.
Oh, that's embarrassing, actually, now that I said that out loud.
Again, 33 years old pink hair getting kicked out a honky talk.
Grow up, Caitlin.
Oh, my goodness.
I have a lot of grown-up to do.
What was your favorite honky talk you went to?
Oh, my goodness.
What was the name of the one?
We went to, it was like Jason Aldeans.
They had the roof time.
shop bar, which was super cool.
Yeah.
And there was this other place that was way more popping.
I don't remember what it was called, though.
There's so many good spots down there.
Like, and places just keep popping up, and different country stars keep having their different
spots, and there's so many rooftops.
And the thing is, like, every time I go on Broadway, I'm like, nobody's sober.
Like, did you feel like the only sober Sally there?
Yeah.
Everybody's definitely having a better time.
Yeah, like, like, bachelorette parties.
Yeah.
I don't.
It's, Nashville's the best.
Bachelorette capital of the world.
Like, people call it Nashville now.
Oh, wow.
And 125 people move here a day.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, everybody's been talking about that.
Like, they keep putting up new, like, apartment complexes and everything because so many people are moving here.
Well, I thought about it.
I, like, legit thought about it last night.
I was like.
I could see you living here.
I think I could do this for a little bit.
It's such a good place for singers and songwriters and talented people.
There's so many.
Maybe it's not a good place.
There's like too much talent in the city.
But you're still living in Philadelphia. No, where are you?
Yeah, I'm in Philadelphia.
Yeah, you're still there?
Yeah, I am.
Do you love it?
I mean, I like it, but I definitely have gotten to an age where I feel like I want to try something new.
Like, I was sheltered for most of my life, to be totally honest.
Yeah.
So I feel like I just finally grew up in, like, the last, like, two years.
Yeah, I could see that.
Yeah, I had, like, super strict parents and everything.
Really?
Yeah, I mean, even when I was, like, 21, it was like, no drinking, no coming home like that, no.
But you're 21.
Can't you make those decisions?
Exactly.
That's what I thought.
I mean, that's what I thought.
I thought that's legally how it went.
Right.
But I grew up in a really strict household.
So I feel like I'm just, and I just moved into my first apartment.
Oh, good for you.
Right after Broadway, actually.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Okay, tell me about living on your own.
What is it like?
I remember the first time I moved on my own.
I wasn't sheltered growing up.
I was spoiled in the best way my mom's listening.
and being like, no, you weren't. Yes, I was. My mom, like, was the best mom ever, but she
would do, like, my laundry. She made my bed. Oh, wow. Yeah. So she hates me right now for admitting
that out of love, but she was just doing it out of the kindness of her own heart. But when I first
moved out, I was like, okay, I'm like a very tiny human being. And I also like, like, I just
danced six times a week when I lived at home. So I moved to Vancouver when I was,
19. I lived four people in a one-bedroom apartment. I shared a room with somebody. We had one
bathroom. And I would eat, um, egg-a-waffles for breakfast. Then I'd be like, well, on my way to work,
I'll get like a white mocha with extra whipped cream. And then I'll get to work and I'll eat
Pena Alfredo with extra cheese and palm dip. And then I'll go for dinner. I mean, Wendy's is on the way home.
I gained so much weight when I moved away from home
And I just, like, did not know how to do my own laundry
Like, I didn't even know what I was doing
And so what is it like for you?
Well, I mean, I was always envious of those kids
Like, whenever I went to, like, some of my friend's house
And their mom would be like, hey, I'm doing the wash
Would you like to put anything else in?
But that is not how my house rolls at all.
Like, I've, like, been so independent since I was, like, extremely young.
Which is amazing, too.
Yeah.
So, you know, my parents, like I said, I grew up in, like a
pretty, like, strict household and very much, like, kind of like you're on your own with a lot of
things.
So, you know, I did my own wash since I was really young, you know, cleaning my own dishes,
making my own food.
Yeah.
So, like, moving out for me was not too much.
Like, I wasn't, like, yeah, I guess that's an easier transition than I.
I, like, actually, like, a lot of people ask me that.
Like, oh, my gosh, are you, like, freaking out?
Yeah.
And I'm like, everything's basically the same besides not having five, you know, siblings around me.
Right.
Do you have roommates?
Um, no, it's just me and my boyfriend.
Oh, amazing.
Yeah.
Same guy?
Yeah.
Oh, that's so cute.
You guys are adorable.
Oh, my gosh.
I love what I love when you guys post videos together of like him playing an instrument and you see.
I'm like, that's the cutest thing ever.
Oh.
That's, I just, I'm like, what I look for is like someone to play cards with me and like drink wine.
But that's, you guys have like a talent going on there.
Well, we do that too.
I mean, I'm like a board game fiend.
Yeah.
Oh, me too.
I mean.
What's your favorite board game?
Well, there's a.
this new game that just came out called Sequence, and I'm, like, actually obsessed with it.
Like, I play so many board games that I get, like, so bored that I have to buy a new board game.
Like, literally, too much. So, what is sequence? It's like... I'm always in to hear about new games.
It's like a board game, but then you also have cards and, like, these little, like, chip pieces.
Yeah. And basically, you get, like, six cards at a time, and then there's, like, a sequence on the board of, like, different cards.
Like, all of them are on there. And then you have to get, like, four in a row.
Oh.
It's like, I don't know. It's, it sounds like...
Well, I'm into it.
It sounds crazy, but you didn't really do it justice, I don't think, but I'm still into it.
I'm like, cool.
I want to play.
Yeah.

Yeah. So right after literally, so I'm on here today. Yeah. Then I go to Pickle
and then yeah then we're doing something else i don't remember and then we're getting on a flight around like
six yeah uh so we have to be at the airport earlier yeah and then we're going to l.a and then we have
another thing while we're in l.a around like 10 p.m. 10 p.m. tonight yeah that's a day oh yeah um let me just
tell you Nashville airport is the most efficient airport you'll ever be in oh really you just get right
yeah it's it's crazy every time i go there i just walk right up yep okay go there's like no one in security
Oh, wow. So I'm not even stressed out now.
No, don't be stressed. It's like the easiest airport to go through.
What's going on at 10 p.m. in L.A.?
I think we're a meeting with somebody who's, it's like a music person.
They're taking me to like a showcase of like one of their other artists and everything.
Okay.
So we're going to be meeting with him and then seeing that, I guess.
I'm usually not totally sure about the details still like right before I go in.
You are me.
Do you like it that way?
I prefer it that way because then.
And, you know, I'm like an overthinker, too.
So if you just don't let me know until it happens, I'll be more myself.
I'm the exact same way.
Like, even if it's like something nerve-wracking, even if it's just traveling, if it's
meeting someone, if it's doing something, I always like knowing last minute and doing things
last minute because then I'm just like, okay, I don't have any other option to just do it.
And like you said, be yourself.
Oh, so what is this big news you speak of on Instagram?
Oh, my goodness.
Okay.
Are you allowed to share it?
Because by the time you share it anyways, this will probably.
come out after yeah so I am actually going to the Grammys so I'm like freaking out like what do you mean
going to the Grammys so you get to go yeah so basically they I got two tickets and I was invited to the
Grammys oh my god so I'm like freaking out um I remember my assistant sunny she called me and she was like
oh my goodness they they're invited to the Grammys oh my god oh my god and um so like we were picking
out our dresses and everything and I'm like I'm literally like
freaking out. It's my first Grammy's. Oh my gosh. I'm going to like, I feel like I'm going to get so
many restraining orders from like celebrities. So where do you, do you know where you get to sit?
I don't know yet. There's like, there's like, there's like the arena. Yeah. And then I guess
in one of the seats. There's an arena. There's a seat somewhere in the arena and that's where I
will be. Yeah. Oh my gosh. What are you going to wear? I'm going to, I just picked it out literally.
yesterday. Yeah. So Sherry Hill had sent me some dresses. Oh, yeah. I love Sherry Hill. I wore a lot of
Sherry Hill on the show. Yeah. Thank God. Because, like, literally, I had no clue it. I was going to
wear it. Yeah. And I didn't have time to really get something. So I was like, oh my goodness. So it's like
this gold dress. Yeah. And it's got like a slit in the leg and I'm going to wear it with a pair
and get it. Hope that it looks good with pink hair. That's, of course it all. That's the one thing
with pink. Just don't wear red. It's hard to like match things. Yeah. That's true, actually. I feel
like you just as long as you don't go like a bold red you're fine yeah yeah I didn't think of that
okay do you have a confession for me I feel like it's time to confess oh my goodness oh my goodness what
do you have a good one or you can't think of one I can't think well I was I had one and then I
sunny told me that it was the same one I used last night oh about how you like don't eat vegetables
Oh, no, what about, like, how, like, I, like, have this issue where I just constantly, like, pee myself.
Wait, no.
Wait, I didn't.
No.
I don't think I went through all the details.
Oh, I do remember the slide.
It was, like, I had an AGT watch party, and a lot of my friends from grade school showed up.
Yeah.
And literally, they were still talking about that.
You pee in your pants.
Yeah.
I had, like, an issue.
You know, I'm...
It's whenever I left.
Like, if somebody makes me...
Like, usually I'm, like, when I'm around my friends, like, I'm the funny one.
Or with my boyfriend, like, I'm the funny one.
And with my family, I'm, like, the one with the sense of humor, making jokes.
Yeah.
So, like, I'm not used to it when other people make jokes and make me laugh.
So when, I mean, literally, like, I, like, just have to go right down and just put my hand right there so I don't be.
Shut up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I, like, have a weak bladder with laughing.
That is, oh, that is a very weak bladder.
What is going to happen to you when you're, like, 90?
Oh, my, I have no clue.
I'm literally going to be in diapers by the time I'm, like, probably 40.
30.
that's so funny yeah like to the extent we're like literally all like I can't it was so
embarrassing at my AGT watch party like literally kids from grade school came to it and were like
my sister was vlogging it and she was like tell us like a secret about Bianca and they were all
every single person talked about how I peed myself peed in your pants well that you know it's super
bad do you ever seen that movie um I don't think so gosh what are you doing with your life I told
I'm sheltered oh yeah
Okay, well, you've got to watch Superbad, but there's this one part where...
Okay, there was one TV in my house split between, like, eight people.
I mean, that that shaped you into who you are, so we can't fault you for that.
But there's this one part on Superbad where Jonah Hill goes, they talked about, like, this kid peeing his pants.
And then he's like, that was fourth grade, man.
And then the other guy goes, people don't forget, which clearly people don't forget.
Well, it affected their lives.
I mean, I, like, literally peed myself in one of those tunnel slides.
Oh, you traumatized.
While playing squish the lemon and I was not the lemon, so.
You traumatized other kids with your pee.
It was really embarrassing.
That's hilarious.
It was so embarrassing.
Mine has to do with bodily functions, too.
I'm actually so embarrassed.
So I was sitting in the Delta lounge yesterday coming home, and I always like, I don't know why I get gassy when I'm traveling.
Like, I don't know why that is a thing.
I think it's just like the air pressure.
Maybe.
But I landed in Atlanta, I had a layover, and I'm always like, oh, gosh, the one time I'm going to, like, toot in public, somebody's going to recognize me and I'm going to, like, have the, like, crop dust air around me.
And that's what happened.
I was, like, in a corner, I'm like, okay, nobody is looking at me.
Nobody's around me.
My stomach is killing me.
I'm just going to let a little cute toot go.
And, of course, like, like, two seconds later, I knew it.
It's like I had channeled that energy.
and I, like, put it out into the universe that that would happen to me.
And this girl comes up, she goes, I saw you from her.
And so I just wanted to apologize.
I think her name was Shelly.
I didn't even acknowledge it.
I should have been like, look, yo.
Yo, you might want to give me five.
But I didn't.
I just, you know, I just let her stand through it.
And I took a photo with Shelly.
And hopefully she listens to the podcast because now I'm acknowledging it.
God, that's embarrassing.
Yeah.
That reminds me.
Actually, I have, like, a second confession.
Okay.
Now that you're, like, talking about, like, bodily function.
Yeah, like, now I feel, you know, I feel comfortable now.
Let's go.
I'm in a comfortable environment.
This is always the safe place.
So you're in the trust tree.
This is a confession for you, too, Sunny.
So literally, we were, when we were in Nashville walking down the street, this is a confession from last night.
Okay.
Okay.
So we're walking down the street and we go into this souvenir shop.
Yeah.
There's this really hot guy, like, walking around.
Yeah.
And, I mean, I walked away because, you know, I was friends.
Yeah.
Just going to ignore that one.
Yeah.
So he was really cute.
Yeah.
And we're walking around, and I'm looking for souvenirs.
And then I walked away from Sunny for a little bit because, you know, I was feeling a little gassy.
Yeah.
So I walked away from Sunny.
And I go, and I'm like walking around.
And then I'm like, all right, this seems like the place to do it.
So I'm like, I'm looking for a T-shirt, like on the wall.
And I'm like, oh, this one looks good.
So then I just like, while I'm doing that, I let it, like, you know, let it out.
Just a little toot.
Yeah, a little cute, too.
Little cute, too.
Yeah.
Literally, I turned around and the guy, he was like not, he wasn't just standing there.
He was on his knees with his head, with his head, maybe like not even six inches from my butt sheet.
No.
Yeah, he was like looking, he was on his knees looking at pins.
And I was like, I was mortified.
I literally just walked back to, I just like put the t-shirt down and I walk back to Duny.
And I was like, are we ready to check out now?
Yes, that's a good confession.
I could see he was like, and he smelled it.
And he knew you dealt it.
Like with like, I couldn't believe like how bad of luck that could be.
Yeah, that's that was, that had to, like, he definitely thought I did that on purpose.
But he had to have.
It was six inches from his face.
I love that you like went up to reach a t-shirt.
Like, he probably like lifted one leg to like reach the t-shirt and his face was just right there.
Oh my goodness.
It was so embarrassing.
That he probably was like, get a load of this chick's confidence.
She just rips one right in my face.
die and I'm like a hot guy but like of any
this store was huge and he's bending down to look at magnets
right in your butthole oh my god
oh my gosh I'm disgusting
that's so funny see that's I like that
that's a good confession it was so embarrassing
well the P one's good too but that's
oh bodily functions we all have them
I wasn't going to speak of that but then you know
oh you have to that's what the confession booths for
oh my goodness it was so embarrassing
that's like what this little isn't the booth that you're in right
Now, doesn't it remind you of, like, a little confession booth?
It's the place to do it.
Okay, so you won America's Got Talent, as you call it, AGT, the cool kids call it, when you were 11.
I know you were on my podcast before, so we've kind of talked about this, but that's so young to be on TV and media.
Yeah.
And I just, again, we probably talked about this, but my memory is embarrassing.
But do you think that's shaped you in your music career with your confidence?
Because I think, to me, at 11, you could either, it could either help you with your confidence.
confidence or hurt you with your confidence to like the pressure and like going through that at such a
fragile age um i to be totally honest i would feel i feel like it definitely hurt me yeah and hurt my
confidence because i was still in school at the time so and then you know i'm 11 so then i ended up
i was in middle school and then i went to public high school so it actually was really hard especially
carrying around like a title yeah um there was like a lot of like i couldn't make any friends like
Yeah.
I was, like, in this weird middle place where, like, there was, like, people who just
were like, oh, she thinks she's all that.
I don't want to be friends to her.
And meanwhile, they've never said hi to me in my life.
Right.
And then there's the people that want to be my friend, but they're like, oh, I don't want to seem like I'm just trying to be her friend because she's her.
So I was in this weird middle ground where, like, nobody would approach me.
Yeah.
What a tough age for that.
Yeah, it was tough.
Oh.
It was tough.
Yeah, that's got to be really hard.
And you switch schools?
Did you say that?
Well, I went to middle school and then I went to a different high school, yeah.
Okay, yeah, because I remember talking about this, too, because I had, so you were on the podcast with Candace Glover and Josh Kaufman, and I'm still mad about this.
I'm still mad about what that guy said to you on AGT.
Oh, to change my hair.
I'm still mad about it.
I rewatched it today.
Okay.
Love me, love me, love me.
Oh, like, like, like.
Like insane, 11 years old.
That's the most insane thing I ever heard.
And then these people, the judges are standing up for you, the crowd's going wild.
You're so cute, your little wave.
And, okay.
Who is that again? Brandy.
Brandy.
Oh, yes, Brandy.
You are my favorite contestant in this competition.
Like how could, yeah, of course you are.
I'm done.
Change your hair.
Change your dress.
Change your shoes.
And you will win this tournament.
No, you dick.
I hate him.
I hate him.
Change your hair.
Change your clothes.
change your shoes and I said this on the last podcast but your cute little innocent soul just
look down at your shoes like what's wrong with my shoes like you don't know for someone to tell
you to change the way you look and you'll win at 11 I honestly still want I'm gonna hunt him down
I'm gonna tweet at him I'm gonna troll this guy on the internet for that because that is like
the worst thing you can possibly tell somebody at that age when you just sang your heart out for him
had the most insane talent
and he tells you to change your appearance
and you'll win
Oh, it boils my blood
Yeah, it was like
Well, it was hard because like, you know
At that time my dad was picking out my outfits
Yeah
And he did a great job
You know, it's not gonna be the best style
But you know, I'm only 11
You looked adorable
Yeah, I didn't
I literally looked down because I was like
Wait, what shoes am I wearing?
Yeah, I don't know
My dad threw these on me
Oh, it just makes me so sad
Like, yeah, and then, and then you're probably so, like, aware of what you look like every other time you go on stage.
Oh, yeah.
You know, that's just like, oh, I don't know.
I mean, I hope he isn't like that anymore because it's 2019.
What was his name?
Pierce Morgan.
Pierce Morgan, you dick.

therapy i am obsessed with your voice and it's so funny because you just and maybe you're not shy but
come off as like this like, you know, this little innocent shy.
And then you just have this mature voice that's just like, oh, like it's just, oh, every
time I hear it, I'm like, holy hell, like, you just, it's powerful.
Your voice is powerful.
Did you start singing as soon as you could talk?
No, I didn't start singing until I was like eight or nine.
See, I'm like, did we talk about this too?
Because now that's ringing a bell.
That's so wild.
Eight or nine and then at 11 you sounded like that.
That's just in your blood.
Does anyone, like, does it run in your family?
I know you said your other siblings, like, don't sing.
No, they don't sing.
But what about, like, your grandparents, your relatives?
My dad.
Like, where does that voice come from?
No, none of my family really sings like that.
I mean, my dad plays guitar and sings more, like, kind of rock music.
Yeah.
But I really don't know.
I just, like, really got into music really quickly when I started singing and just, like,
could not get enough of it.
I was saying everywhere.
Yeah.
And you just practice every day.
Well, I was a dancer since I was three years old.
Okay.
So I was constantly in the dance studio with music playing,
performing.
And being so cultured and like even old music.
Yeah.
You know, the oldies, 80s music, 90s, like all of it.
We were dancing to all of it.
So I would just like be humming along while I was singing too.
So I was just always around music.
Yeah.
Okay.
That makes sense.
Well, so is I, but I don't sound like you.
Oh, my goodness.
I remember you said on that, on AGT when you were 11,
And you said, you didn't want 15 minutes of fame.
And you haven't.
You've been killing it ever since.
And I feel like you're like a little hustler, like a little boss lady, like a go-getter.
Yeah.
Like you really work hard for what you do.
Yeah.
I'm like extreme.
I've always been that way.
I'm like extremely motivated.
Like I like sometimes I'll see like my friends that even just, you know, I'm in music.
I'm so thankful for that.
But even my friends who just work regular jobs or just.
stuff like that like office jobs and everything and then they come home and they're like oh my goodness
i can't wait to like just like relax and watch some tv and i'm like they think i'm crazy because
they don't know how i like literally go all day yeah i'll take it's just how you're how you function
i'm like so hyperactive with work it's like i just can't i can't even sleep because i just want to
like be editing a video or planning a project or writing a new song or something do you like writing
music? Oh, I love writing music. What? I love writing music more than singing. You do? Yeah.
Will you write me a song? Yeah, I have like a whole catalog of songs. You do? Yeah.
Wait, that's so awesome. That's the skill set that I wish I had was like being a good writer. I can like, I've done some co-writing with songs, but I'm like blown away with people's talent when they can, when they're like songwriters.
I'm like, well, all the songs of my Spotify are written by me. That's amazing. And I'm the only, I'm the only, I'm the only lyric.
writer on it. Wow. And you don't hear about that very often, especially in Nashville. There's a lot of
songwriters and then the people will sing it. You need to move to Nashville. You can be a songwriter and
still do what you do. I know, because I want to write more music and I want to co-write with, because
I'm always just like me. Like I never have somebody like bounced lyrics off of or like a melody.
Yeah. Yeah. So like all the song, like one day, what I got to do, man down, no one to come down.
All right. Like all of them are just like me. Cool. So like, but I, but it's like, it's like, it's like, it's
Absolutely. Yeah, it is. I bet. I want to like not just be in a room with my guitar, my piano, writing music. I want to co-write with people.
Because it's also your thoughts and your feelings. And so to just like keep them to yourself when you could be sharing them with a with a co-writer.
Yeah, I mean, two heads are better than one always, you know, especially with music.
Yeah, you definitely need to come back to Nashville and just and do some, at least just like meet with some songwriters and do co-writing sessions.
I know. I would love to do that. Yeah, you have to. And you would be great at it.
I could just, like, write it.
And the thing with me is, like, I'll, like, write about anything.
Yeah.
A lot of people are like, oh, what are you feeling today?
And it's like, I'm feeling this, but I could totally write about, like, a vanilla
cupcake.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, good for you.
Okay.
I'm going to give you a topic and you're going to write me a song.
Okay.
And I'll sing it and give you all the creds.
And you recently went back to America's Got Talent for, what was it for the champion?
So for everyone that's ever won America's Got Talent.
Winners were, like, the viral people.
like Susan Boyle was on it. Oh, big fan. Yes, all the people that went viral and from all over. It wasn't just AGT, like America. It was like worldwide. Like, whoa. Because Susan Boyle's from Britain, Scott Taylor. Right, right, right. So they're all from like around the world. Yeah. Oh, that's really cool. Yeah, it was pretty nerve-wracking.
Um, yeah. I was going to ask, do you get like really nervous for, I mean, performing in general, or was that something that just really made you nervous? Um, I get, I definitely get super nervous before performances, but I tell myself I'm not nervous. Yeah. I'm totally lying.
myself. Yeah, that's good. You know it yourself. But I was definitely nervous for AGT champions, because you
didn't know this, but when we were on Broadway, like I had actually only been a, not even a year out
of vocal surgery. So, yeah, that was like the big thing for AGT champions was me actually finally
going public with like all the vocal issues I went through throughout like my teenage years,
which is why I didn't really do much performing then. Whoa, vocal surgery? Yeah. So I had to get
two vocal surgeries and then a stomach surgery. What? Yeah. And when I did,
You were a year out of that on Broadway?
Not even.
I think I was eight months.
Holy.
That's why I was telling, I was telling Jonathan, I was like, I just don't know.
Like, I'm really scared.
And he was like, whatever will, like, we'll, like, you know, work it out where, like, you don't have to sing this part or just do as much as you can.
And you were, like, singing the craziest notes ever.
I was like, but, you know, I'm like, just out of vocal surgery and I'm, like, nervous.
I feel like I'm not the best that I can be for this.
He was like, that's exactly why I want you.
You know, I feel like, you know, you have something special.
Well, I would have never, ever guessed that.
Holy!
And so, were you fine after that after Broadway?
Was it all okay?
It was definitely okay.
Like, I was definitely tired.
Yeah.
My voice was tired.
So I did take a little bit of a break after Broadway.
Yeah.
And then literally a couple months later,
AGT champions called me.
Whoa.
And I was like, oh, my goodness.
Yeah.
And then they were like, you know, like they had heard through like some, like the internet and everything about like the vocal surgeries.
And they wanted me to talk about it.
Yeah.
And I never really went public with it.
Right.
You know, it was just something I talked to, like, friends and family about.
Yeah.
And only if somebody asked me.
Yeah.
And then I was like, all right, I guess I'm about to go public for, like, millions of people about it.
And I couldn't believe the feedback I got and how many people were actually going through the same thing.
Really?
Yeah.
That's the thing.
I always find that about, like, even podcasting or just sharing any kind of story is once you open up about something that you haven't talked about before, you realize how many people are going through the same.
How many people could be going through the same thing?
Yeah, well, high school was so hard for me because I wasn't really singing.
I didn't try out for the school plays.
I stopped performing.
I stopped touring.
I started saying no to, like, my Vegas shows and Atlantic City shows because I just couldn't sing,
and I didn't know what was wrong.
And I was literally going to quit until I finally, after like six years, I think,
I went to an E&T when I was 18 or 19.
And I don't remember the whole timeline.
Yeah.
I was like 18 or 19, and they told me that my vocal core was paralyzed.
And I was singing on it for years.
And I had no idea.
Oh my gosh
I had no clue
And I was like crying
Because I had to give vocal surgery
You know
Whenever you give vocal surgery
There's a chance
You won't be able to sing again
Right
So I was freaking out
You know music was like my whole life
But at the same time
I was barely doing it anymore
Yeah
And I was just I was literally gonna quit
So I was like I had nothing to lose
So I went through with it
And I could not believe like
What like
I just couldn't believe that
It was a success
And so you could really tell a difference
Like after
Yeah I mean I could
hell a difference I didn't have to like strain as hard to sing and is that because maybe you didn't have like because it just was in you to sing you didn't have the proper proper vocal training from somebody and you were just like forcing it or what like how does it happen it actually happened through he said it was um it got paralyzed through a virus that I probably like 14 or 15 and um the virus it like attacked the vocal cord and it made it paralyzed whoa that's terrifying pretty crazy well I mean
I mean, thank God it all worked out.
I know.
I had to, like, literally relearn how to speak and talk again, and this was only just...
What's the recovery like?
You can't, like, talk or sing for, like, months.
Ew.
So I was, like, literally talking through, like, writing notes and everything.
It was, like, the saddest thing.
It was the saddest thing.
That's when I wrote a lot of lyrics, actually.
And I could not...
When I did AGT Champions and I went public with what happened to me because nobody knew,
I was so embarrassed to tell people for a while.
Oh, my gosh, girl.
And I could not believe how many messages.
I got being like, oh my gosh, my mom actually, she's a singer and her vocal cord is paralyzed too and she doesn't know whether to go through with the surgery and this happened to my dad and I went through this. I had a vocal paralysis and they had to like inject it with a filler and like literally so many people I could not believe like I was like I am not the only one like that's crazy. I felt like I was the only one in the universe. That was like a singer and then went through something that was like literally just bad luck. Wow. Well good. Good for you for sharing your story.
And now look at you.
Like this is, when I think about you singing on Broadway, I'm like, that was not even a year out of vocal surgery.
And then going to the AGT champions, like, I keep just showing off for you.
I'm like, listen to this.
I get every time, I show people this video all the time.
Oh, my goodness.
Because I'm like, I mean, my goosebumps hurt when I listen to you sing this.
I have to.
I have to.
That's something that's something
And I'm something that I like but it gets you right
And then mean where I want to follow you
That's what I think
And say something
I'm giving the moon
Oh god
And then Simon
Simon freaking cow
stands up like the smile on his face
When you're singing
Like every time like my goosebumps just heard again
It doesn't get old to me
I'm like your voice
How do you even sing like that
And after vocal surgery
That's insane
You must be so proud of yourself
I'm like, I'm just, like, I just feel so thankful.
I just cannot believe that after not one but two vocal surgeries that, like, I can
crazy sing.
Like that's gotten better and they've been successful.
Like, I had an amazing vocal surgeon and.
Wow.
It was crazy.
Like, literally the next day I saw that Christina Aguilera retweeted that video.
No.
And I literally, like, I couldn't breathe.
Yeah, no kidding.
Like, I literally, like, I was with my little sister at the time.
My baby sister, Eva.
Yeah.
It was like the cutest little thing ever.
The cutest.
on my Instagram story.
Yes, I have. The cutest.
And we were playing, and then I seen one of the producers from AGT text me and was like,
oh my God, Christina Aguilera retweet at your video.
And I was like, and literally Eva was like, hello, are you okay?
Like, she literally thought I was like dying.
Not okay.
Yeah, because you stopped breathing.
Yeah.
Best moment of my life.
Yeah.
Because like she, you know, she sings on that song.
Yeah.
So if she's like reposting it, then that's like something.
Well, yeah.
I do you hear yourself sing though are you do hear yourself and you're like I'm incredible yeah but sometimes people get like you know sometimes people don't like when you do or change up their song right especially when you're doing a cover and like I did a lot to that song to make it like a competition right right um and well you nail that's why I just could not believe when she did that oh my gosh put that on your on your tombstone freaking out Christina Aguilera retweeted a video of me singing oh my goodness RIP that's amazing so
Now, what, okay, wait, I always lose track of my notes.
Oh, yeah, I would say, I wrote in here, I'm like, God, I always think I can sing, and then I hear people, belt those.
And I'm like, nope, nope, just kidding.
No, I hear you sing.
I've seen on your story, like, when you were, like, in vocal lessons and everything.
I mean, I'm not terrible, but I'm no Bianca Ryan.
Yeah, but with any, I feel like, you know, with any, like, practice and you're, like, you're, like, passionate about it.
I have voice lessons today at three.
Exactly.
It happens, you know, everything, you can only get better.
You can't get worse.
Yeah, one day I will win AGT.
Yeah, unless, you know, you're both.
vocal cord gets a virus and well then I'll just pop in for a double vocal surgery and call it a day um
what was it like being back there so many years later it was crazy yeah it was actually really
weird being back there as an adult and I was really really really nervous yeah because you know
when I was first on america's got talent there was like no social media right so yeah that's like
I was not in the age of social media I was on my space still right um and uh
I was really nervous because, you know, there's a lot of, like, you know, trolls.
Yeah.
So I didn't know what they were going to say.
If they were going to make fun of, like, my story or, you know, make up rumors about my voice or make fun of the way I look.
Like, they'll come at anything.
Yeah.
So I was really nervous.
Yeah.
I was like, I just kept reminding myself.
I was saying, just don't read the comments.
Just when it goes live.
Don't read the comments.
Yeah.
And, I mean, I read some.
I was actually impressed with how little negativity.
That's great.
I saw.
That's really great.
Because, yeah, it doesn't, even if there is so much, it doesn't matter.
Like, it really doesn't.
Yeah, it was like totally.
But I understand that's hard to.
And especially going back as like an adult, though, it was to be able to like take in the experience truly.
Like, you can't fully take that in on 11.
No.
That's, you probably had more like awareness going in to, to be in the moment.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, that's, for sure.
I was really, I was really taking it all in and I could like actually get to know people there.
That's awesome.
I'm going to ask you a few questions from listeners.
Okay.
Ackamer photo?
Does Bianca remember her chemistry teacher, Nick Keith?
That's her husband.
Yeah, I do.
From Kappa.
Sure.
Wait, Nick?
Yeah, Mr. Kee.
Well, I didn't call him Nick Keith.
I called him Mr. Keith.
Yeah.
Yeah, I do remember that.
Yeah, he was actually kind of like our main chemistry teacher because our main teacher, I think, was out a lot.
I don't know, but I know he was there, like, all the time.
Well, he's proud of you, just so you know.
Aw, thank you.
Yeah.
Okay.
Haley Marguerite says, question for Bianco.
Why is everyone so intimidated by Simon?
Like, does he have a voice that I've never heard before?
He's so hard on musicians, but is he a musician?
I'm confused.
I have been since First American Idol.
I actually don't.
Actually, I feel like that would go viral, like, if Simon Cow.
Yeah, sang?
Sang a song.
Yeah, why is he such a tough critic if he doesn't show his own voice?
I don't know.
You know how there's, like, that's how it is with, like, you know, even, like, record
label people and everything.
Like, they know talent.
That's true.
Some people have more an ear for it than a voice for it.
Yeah.
That makes sense.
Slin Bennett says, question for Bianca, other than winning, what was her favorite
AGT memory?
Hmm.
Oh, my goodness.
That's actually hard.
Yeah.
I feel like my favorite AGT memory was definitely.
I feel like, well, does it have to be for the first time of AGT or just in general?
In general.
I think Champions was like a huge, huge.
huge memory for me. And I guess the biggest thing was when I hit that one note and say something.
Yeah. My eyes were closed. And then when I opened them, everybody's standing up. So I was like,
whoa. It was like a magic trick or something. Oh my gosh. Wait, that is really cool. Yeah.
That's probably something you'll remember forever. Oh, yeah. That's amazing. Mrs. Emily Moe says,
did you ever walk into Starbucks in 2014 and hear your song Christmas every day? Because I used to
worked there for nine months and that was my favorite bot to listen to it came on once every two hours
during my shift love it and love you oh my goodness i actually hear my christmas song plays like everywhere
because it goes to number one like overseas oh yeah it's super big in like the netherlands in germany
whoa so yeah it's pretty i mean it is a bop it is a bop i'll give you that so i have heard it
when we were um doing the broadway show when there was like the macy's down there yeah and i went in
and I heard it and I was like
What?
That's like me
And it's crazy because I recorded that like 10 years ago
And now it's getting on like the radio
Wow really?
Yeah
Just just now?
In America
Oh wow
I feel like I've heard that
Maybe I just
It's just such
It's just so catchy that maybe I just think I've heard it forever
They've had it like syndicated on like different like stores
Yeah
Like on their store radios and like Starbucks and stuff like that
But never really like playing like everywhere
like how it did for like the last two years in America.
Oh, that's so cool.
Well, this is a random question, but Haffee 25 says,
does Bianca like pickles?
I need to know.
It's urgent.
It's this an inside thing I don't know.
Oh, my goodness.
So literally, I actually don't like pickles.
Oh, what?
But I will, like, I don't like them, but I will eat them.
I just started, like, putting them on my burger and trying it out for like a bite.
I love pickles.
Well, I don't eat ketchup and mustard either.
You're not.
Something wrong with me.
There is something wrong with you.
There's definitely something wrong with you.
don't like ketchup and I don't eat like I don't eat any condiments except for like cheese sauce I'm the
biggest condiment guy out there I'm like the biggest dipper you've ever met in your life I need to
dip everything I dip dip dip and dip oh my goodness yes anyways um that's all the time we have but
good luck with everything and thank you for coming here and good luck with your good the grammies
oh my goodness don't have any nips lips literally or do it and go viral yeah also if you're
wondering why, like, one of my boobs is higher than the other.
Like, literally, I mean, I wasn't, but now I am.
My bra snapped on the screen and is horrible.
I didn't notice.
They look great.
Yeah, so now my right one looks good, but the left one's a little not really there.
I mean, I wasn't studying, but now that you pointed out.
Yeah, I put it on, and I felt like this snap, and I was like, when we were in the lobby
of the hotel about to leave, and I was like, oh.
See, I just don't wear bras.
I mean, I knew this bra was, like, definitely on its last leg, but.
I honestly don't wear bras.
Like, I'm not wearing one right now.
it's rare that I do.
I was wearing one the other day and someone was like, whoa, are you wearing a, are you
wearing a bra?
I was like, I know.
It's weird, right?
That's funny.
Okay, this is, where can people find you?
Where can people find your music?
You on Instagram.
Tell me everything.
Oh, okay.
So you can find me on Spotify.
So just Bianca Ryan.
I'm on Instagram and I like basically kind of film everything about my life on there on
Instagram story.
So that's at official Bianca Ryan.
And then I'm on Twitter at Bianca Ryan.
and then Facebook, I don't know how many people use Facebook pages, but I'm on there as Facebook.com
slash official Bianca Ryan.
And then you go to my website, just Biancarine.com, which has, like, everything.

Good for you.
Always.
I just can't.
I can't sleep without doing something.

Good for you.
Yeah.
