Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Grape Therapy: Dani Austin on Hair Loss Stress & Doing Our Best
Episode Date: February 16, 2023Fashion and lifestyle influencer, not to mention OG Bachelor fan, Dani Austin joins Kaitlyn for today’s therapy session centered all around her hair loss journey, motherhood, and putting he...rself out there on the interwebs for an entire decade. Kaitlyn first started following Dani because, like many, she found herself struggling with hair loss and the stigma that comes along with it. Dani opens up about her own hairloss experience and how it ultimately led her to found her company Divi, a clean scalp care line meant to make you feel absolutely divine. The Kardashians may have posted about it, too … no big deal. Dani also shares what it’s like being named as one of Forbes Top 50 Creators (and the BTS of a Forbes party), why she decided to play matchmaker for her brother (and which Bachelor stars helped out), and what mom guilt and postpartum has looked for her as she raises two under two. Your session is starting right now.
Fashion and lifestyle influencer.
Danny Austin joins me on the podcast today.
She started out on YouTube, you guys, 10 years ago.
She's been online for 10 years.
She started off just wanting a free mascara, and she committed to that, too.
the YouTube. Oh, God, where am I, 80? And in 2012, she started growing in an audience. She was sharing
fashion advice, wedding plans. She started experimenting with wigs after some severe hair loss in
alopecia. We talk all about, you know, what causes hair loss, things you can do to support
hair loss. And her line called Divi, which helps with that. It's a beautiful serum. And I'm excited
to just talk to her because she's a little cutie. So enjoy my conversation with you.
Danny Austin.
Oh, hey, beauty.
Hello.
Hi.
How are you?
I'm good.
How are you?
I'm so good.
I've got freaking cords galore over here.
What is happening?
You got all the technology.
All the freaking cords.
That looked so messy for a second.
I was driving up.
I wish I could just be there with you.
Like, I just want to give you a virtual hug.
I know.
I know.
I want you so bad.
I thought you were going to be, or because your brother lives here, right?
Yes, he's lived there for like 15 years.
And so I'm there, you know, whenever he has a girlfriend and I need to meet the new girlfriend.
He's single right now.
So I'm like, there's no reason to travel to Nashville just yet.
Plus we have, I have a two under two.
Well, now my daughter's a little bit older, but two babies at home.
So everything I know about you.
I'm like, you are just a hero.
But you, so you're in Dallas right now.
Yes.
So I'm in Dallas.
my husband and I, we met in Austin and then ended up back in Dallas because our families are here.
That's nice. I love Dallas. I feel like there's a handful of places that I could see myself living.
Chicago, Dallas, Austin, maybe New York or L.A. I used to say I would never move to L.A.
But now that I'm there, I'm like, maybe I can have a cute little studio out there, like just pop over there every once in a while.
But I actually have been to Texas a lot lately because in the past year, obviously, I've launched my Spade and Spade and Sparrow's Wine in Target.
So it's been a little hustle to get out there.
But Texas is worth that because they were the first state to take on my wine.
So I am forever in debt to Texas.
Is that the video where you're walking through Target with a glass of wine?
Yes.
I love that.
That is so fun.
Yeah.
No.
And that's very like Texas, I feel like.
But the people are the best in Texas.
Like I've been to all those places.
National, they're pretty great too.
Yeah.
But I just feel like it can't be beat, the Southern hospitality.
Is that where you're from originally?
originally. Yeah, from Dallas originally. Oh, that's great. I was kind of like you. I was like,
okay, where can I end up? Like Austin, Chicago. But when you have kids, it is so helpful to be near
the parents. My husband's parents live, you know, like 30 minutes away. My parents live 20 minutes away.
I'm like, we could never do this without them. And so, um, so we'll probably be in Texas for a while.
I think about that all the time because whenever Jason and I are with his parents, they're like,
like, when are the babies coming? We'll move wherever because they know we'll, we'll,
need help. And I think my parents would do the same because they've been parents. So they know how
much it helps to have family nearby. But that's, I've heard that so much is how helpful that is.
And because you got to, you got to still like, you know, be in Forbes 50 and do like, you know,
regular people shit that you have to do when you're kids. So wait, I'm actually coming back at
the beginning of March to launch at H.EB in San Antonio and Austin. Have you shot there before?
are you have you not well because i don't i know i have oh my gosh h eb is like it is the place to be
like hb is they don't they actually just um opened one in like north dallas like it's pretty far
but when you go there it is like the mall of america for like grocery stores like it's i've heard
i looked it up and i was like what the hell and so i'm stoked that my wine's going to be in there
because it really is. It's like, it's glorious in there. It's heaven.
Congrats. That's a big deal. HUB is like, it's a big thing in Texas. So congrats.
Oh, thank you. I'm so excited. And they're doing like a women of wine feature to celebrate women's history
month. So it's all very exciting. But we got to talk about you being an entrepreneur because
you've got that entrepreneur spirit in you. I love that you create something that you love. And then
it just becomes your life. Like you're like, I want to do this. And then you do it. I'm sure that's how you felt
with Divy. I want to hear all about this. So tell me how long ago did you launch your brand?
Sure. So I guess starting from the beginning, I have been a creator or whatever they call it for 10 years now.
And so I actually started. It's crazy. Like, I mean, this was before like the brands were hopping on and, you know, actually investing in influencer marketing. Influencer marketing like wasn't really a thing.
No. I was just like, I'll do this if I can get a free mascara. Like that's really all.
want. But my brother kind of introduced me to the space. He was a musician on YouTube. And I was like,
okay, well, at least you have a talent. Like, what am I going to talk about? But I started making,
I was actually in a sorority at the University of Texas. And I started making videos and I like didn't
tell anyone because it was so, I don't know, it was like so strange. Wait, I need to see those.
Like, what were you saying? What were you talking about? What was like your first YouTube video?
Hey, y'all. My name is Danny Austin. And today I'm going to be showing you a New Year's Eve outfit
from T.J. Max. Like literally talked like that. Like I, it was, it's so cringy. It is, it is cute because
it's like, it was so long ago. Yeah. I'm sitting in my, my bedroom from like when I was a child.
It's like lime green and hot pink stripes. And like there's like a Jonas Brothers, you know,
yeah, big poster. But anyway, so I started channel, started making all this content, but I didn't
tell anyone. Like, it was a secret for a really long time. And then about like three months later,
I think it's because it was so early. I had like,
100,000 followers. And I was like, wait a minute. And I started meeting all these girls.
No, it was crazy. Like, and I started meeting all these girls in, um, in L.A that were like making
YouTube videos full time. And they were like living in these houses created like, you know,
these content houses. This is before like, you know, Jake Paul or like Logan Paul had all those
like hype house or whatever, you know, the TikTok houses and so. And so I told my parents,
I was like, you know, I'm studying to be a physical therapist. You know, I'm doing biology and
kinesiology and all these like legit things with my education. I was like, you know, I don't think
I'm going to do it. I think I'm going to be a YouTuber. And my parents were like, no, you're not.
So I spent, you know, every summer out in L.A. for the next four years, growing my channel,
doing a lot of collaborations, things like that. Really just like fell in love with the space, you know,
kind of evolved into like blogging and Instagram when Instagram became a thing. But, you know,
in the midst of all of that, I was always kind of just talking about like what was going.
on in life because I didn't really have like a talent you know and so it was more like lifestyle like
relatable sales that's a talent in itself to be able to do that I guess I guess now it's acknowledged as
one but at the time I was like I don't know so you know when I was in when I was filming on these videos I was
also very stressed because I was still you know finishing my my major I was still trying to apply to
physical therapy schools like just having a backup plan and I would start to like pull my hair out
whenever I was studying or editing and I would just look down at my, you know, where I was
and there just be all this hair. And I was like, what the heck is going on? And started to have like
these like bald patches. And then I started to get hair extensions, like the tapins to try to cover
it up. And I started to like bleach the hair because I'm like, you know, maybe if I bleach it,
it'll look better. And it's just like this like downward spiral to the point where when I got
married and I, you know, moved in with my husband. I looked in the mirror and I was like,
I, I like, I can't do this YouTube thing anymore.
Like, I can't.
I'm so embarrassed.
And so stressed out too.
So stressed.
Just like, it was just not, not going well.
And so my husband was like, well, I don't get it.
Like the Kardashians wear wigs.
Like, why can't you wear a wig?
You know, like guys are just like, wait, I don't understand.
You know, but living in Texas, like in a subway with Texas, like not everybody's wearing
these wigs.
Like, it's not as common.
And so my husband was like.
Let's just go. So he put me in the car. He like Googled the first wig shop. We went to like a costume store.
Tried on. You know those like purple plastic where it's like so bad. I got in the car. I was like, I'm always good. I'm going to be bald forever.
Like, you know, it was so just discouraged. And then I ended up finding like some of these. Actually, do you know who Jeffrey Starris? Yeah.
Okay. So he wears wigs and he would post like about all of his wigs on YouTube.
Like in L.A. And so my husband was like, okay, let's fly to L.A. and go, you know, where Jeffrey Starr gets his wigs. His Wigs are like awesome. Yeah, that really did. And so, you know, I actually, I transitioned into wigs for a year. And my whole thing was, okay, let's just like embrace it. Let's have fun with it. I did all these like wig tutorials. But at the same time, I was trying to figure out like, okay, what is the root of this? Why am I losing my hair? Why am I so stressed out? Like, why is my life not balanced? Like, am I, you know,
kind of really trying to get to the root of it. So I did a lot of research. And I was like a little
scientist like in my bathroom. I'd be making these like little formulas. I'm like, okay, tea tree
oil is supposed to be, you know, detoxifying, menthol is like stimulating. There was like a big
trend going on. I don't know if you ever saw this with monostat. Like the infection cream for down there.
Yes, I remember. Where a lot of people were putting monostat on their scalp and their hair was growing.
And the reason that was is because it has a lot of antifungal properties that's like kind of detoxifying or, you know, unclogging your follicles so that your hair has like an opportunity to grow.
And so I was like researching all of these things, caffeine for anti-inflammatory.
And then like I would share it on my YouTube channel.
I'd be like, okay, here's my new serum, you know.
And people were like, can you send that to us?
Like I'll pay you, you know, 50 bucks.
Can you send it to me?
So that's whenever I realized there was just like huge epidemic of women that were going.
through something similar.
They were scared to talk about it.
I had women that, you know,
had been wearing wigs for years and had their husbands had never seen them
without their wigs on.
Like, just things like this.
Yeah, there's women feel a lot of shame around.
We've been told since we were little that like pretty girls have hair and lots of it.
And like, you know,
that's just been such a thing for so long that we have hair.
And that is what makes us beautiful.
Yeah.
And it can make you feel like feminine too.
And so when I'm married and I'm just like,
I don't feel feminine anymore.
And so long story short, I was like, let's launch Debbie.
And so we were able to meet with like this amazing chemist and put a lot of the ingredients
in it that I wasn't able to access.
And I never like in a million years thought it would grow into something like it is.
Because let's be real.
Like I never thought I would launch a hair company.
I don't have like the luscious beautiful hair that you see on on television.
And so.
But I think that that's that's all.
Yeah. Right. Right. Or it's like so genetics, where I'm just like, okay. Yeah. I'm like,
you were born with that here. Totally. But maybe that's why it's more relatable because it's,
it's girls like me too that didn't, that weren't born with this, like these like locks of hair.
I was the opposite, though. I started following you because of that because I was having severe hair
loss. And I remember following you because of that reason. And I was like, maybe I could wear wigs. Like,
Mine wasn't. Okay, I say severe. It was, it was, but it was all underneath. So I was getting major bald spots and clumps of hair falling out from stress. And then mine actually grew back. But I used to in high school do the same thing. I would pick my eyelashes. I would pick my eyebrows. I would pick hair. And there's, isn't there like a name for that? It's like trick, tricketillomania or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just call it trick. And yes, it's like, it's actually pretty common.
It's a real thing. And I remember opening up on, you know, social media about hair loss. And I couldn't believe how many people related to that. It is such a real thing for women to want to have more hair, for women that are having hair loss, stress, hormones, so many things that factors that go into having hair loss. So it's like incredible that you were able. Oh, that's what I was going to say. I was the opposite. I was born with so much hair. I have so much hair when I was little. That's what makes it hurt so much.
And I'm like, what I do? What did I do? Well, I know what I did. I bleached the shit out of it. I did a bunch of hair extensions. I had massive amounts of stress. And yeah, it's just, I love it. That's why I'm like so intrigued by your brand as well and want to share it with people because I know so many people relate to it. So go on.
Yeah. I mean, that's pretty much it with Debbie. It's been really fun to kind of listen to people and what they're wanting. So like shampoo and conditioner was like the next thing. Right. A lot of people are wanting a hair vitamin.
We're working on, like, this amazing hair vitamin.
So we have all these products that are kind of lined up.
But, but, yeah, I mean, that's what it's all about is kind of helping people, like,
empower them in those moments when they feel, like, so embarrassed about something that,
like, basically so many women go through, and especially as we get older.
Like, sometimes it's just maybe you're not so stressed.
It's just, like, genetics.
And, and that's what happens.
And so just having those conversations to make women feel more comfortable has been very, like,
encouraging like it makes me want to keep showing up if that makes sense totally yeah absolutely and
I think it like builds a community which is always so rewarding and like to people who don't want
long luscious hair and shave their head and feel beautiful that way I'm like power to you as well
god yes I wish I could feel like that would be me I'm just like too insecure well no honestly
like I'm the same way I'm like I don't think I have a good shaped head but I have the weirdest shaped head
it's the weirdest I could feel it it's like
It's like there's like a bump.
Like mine has like a bump in the back.
Mine's also super flat.
And then I have a weird, yeah, I have a weird bump on the back too.
It's a whole thing.
But so this brand that you've created, I have questions because it is hard to build a brand.
I mean, it helps if you have a platform.
But I saw in your story that Courtney Kardashian and Chris Jenner both posted it on their stories like in a little package.
How the hell did you get that to them?
Okay.
Is that not the craziest thing?
Well, I think what helps is Debbie is like totally clean.
So we use a lot of natural ingredients and it is powered by science.
And we have a lot of amino acids and peptides that are really good at kind of creating
like this anchoring agent for your hair.
So it's like really strengthening the follicle so that your hair is less likely to fall out.
But we have a ton of natural ingredients and you know Courtney loves all those natural ingredients.
And it's it's great because since it is clean, it's something that you can like use long term.
It's not something like the monostat trend, which was like, okay, you can use that for a month.
but like don't be using that, you know, year round.
But honestly, this is so crazy.
Like, I don't even know if I can share a lot of the people that reach out to us.
It's a lot of, like, professional athletes that have reached out to us, men in particular.
Yeah.
We've had some, like, huge, like, golfers reach out to us.
A lot of country artists, their wives will reach out to us because they're wearing hair extensions.
And what happens with hair extensions was so crazy when I learned about this whole process is,
and I wear the clip in ones.
So, like, I'll wear them whenever I'm going out.
And like, I want to like have the long hair and everything.
But what happens with, um, extensions is sometimes if it's, if they're too heavy, you get like
traction alopecia.
And whenever you have traction alopecia, it's actually, okay, let's just say that you have one
little section that has the clip in.
It's actually like the section all around it that you'll also lose hair.
So a lot of people are like, oh, it's actually not happening from the hair extension because
it's all these other areas, but it actually causes hair loss and all like all over.
And so, um, so yeah, we have a.
a lot of people that reach out about that. And a lot of times people like to keep it private because
it is a little bit more, you know, a personal issue. But I just think it goes to show you like Courtney
Kardashian also struggles with probably the same thing that we do. You know, my gosh, think of the amount
of stress they put on their hair like extensions and that, well, I mean, not so much Courtney
because she doesn't bleach her hair ever, but like Kim. And they do so much to their hair. And I remember
seeing Kim's hair without extensions and when she had bleached it. And I was like, oh, more of that.
Please show us more of that because that made me feel so seen. And I was like, oh, my gosh,
I've been on this hair journey for so long. And I'm just like, extensions are so terrible for your
hair. I do the same thing. I just do some clippins. But so yours is a serum and you're going to
be coming out with different things, vitamin and different things like, oh, show me. Oh, and it's
a gorgeous packaging. Oh, I love that color too.
How did you think of the name Divi?
What's that stem from?
Divi was kind of short for Divine, honestly.
I love that. I didn't want to love it.
I didn't want to name it Divine.
It was too long.
And Divi also in a sense that like I didn't want this to just be about strictly like,
okay, this is exactly what you need and it's going to cure all of your issues.
Like I really wanted people to focus on divvying a little attention to your health or your mental health or your diet or, you know.
good like work life balance exactly so it's not just all about this it's more of like a well-rounded
lifestyle and how often do you use it oh girl you can use it anytime all the time but i use it um like
usually right whenever i get out of the shower and i blow dry my hair and it's not greasy at all
and that's the best part about it um and like it kind of you know like that feeling whenever you brush
your teeth and like you just feel like it's like pepperminty and it's like fresh that's how it's
going to feel on your scalp. And the thing is, like, we all have a scalp. Like, we all have
a scalp to take care of, no matter how much hair you have or how much hair you want. A lot of people
say that it, it helps a lot with, like, psoriasis, um, dandruff, just because a lot of those,
like, natural ingredients that we have in there, or if you have oily hair. So it really is, like,
kind of just creating, like, the best environment for your scalp. And then you'll see, like, a lot of
benefits from it. Um, and then just one of them for a lot of people has been hair growth, which has been
awesome. But, so, yeah.
It's a really special brand and it's, I think my favorite thing about it was like just the
community that it's created. You know, people sending us videos putting in their divvy.
Like it's it's so, so special.
That is awesome. Yeah, the scalp here is like the number one thing of where you start for hair
growth. And that's what I've been learning, just treating your scalp like a little baby.
And that's great. I love a scalp serum. Like when I'm listening to talk about it, I feel like
also you just like you could tell you're passionate about it. You know what I mean?
It's, I feel like that always helps when I'm not shitting on Haley Beaver because I do think she's passionate about skin care.
But you can tell it was like just super like promotional and above like when she was doing her media rounds where I'm like, I want to know your story and your struggles and how you got here and like why you're so passionate about it.
You know, like I just, I love hearing people's stories and seeing the passion that they have in it.
Okay, when you've got a lot going on, it can be really hard to find time or motivation for a workout.
I know I've been there a million times before.
but Peloton has really motivated me to get it in however and whenever I can.
You guys already know how I feel about Peloton.
It's my fave.
So I've had their bike for a while now, take classes on the app.
But the Peloton row brand new to me.
I went to their showroom in Nashville.
I need to get this rower immediately.
You guys, I'm serious when I say I actually had fun working out and feel like I got in a brand new type of workout for me, just full body.
Peloton is bringing motivation and energy to rowing like never before with a variety.
of rowing workouts on and off the row and all new world class instructors who will help you get in
a great workout while having fun no matter what your experience level is. And rowing is no joke.
You can work on 86% of your muscles in only 15 minutes and get all your cardio and strength in
one shot. The technology was really cool when I tried it in the showroom. It helped me get into it
the right way and they have this form assist while working out. So it's like a breakdown of what
you're doing right and wrong and it'll help give you the proper form. And it's,
The breakdown is at the end, so you can go even harder next time.
Right now is the perfect time to get rowing with Peloton Row,
and we can promise you've never rowed like this before.
Peloton Row offers a variety of classes for all levels
and game-changing features that will help you get rowing or advance what you already can do.
Explore Peloton Row and financing options at onepellaton.com slash row.
Okay, are you still on the fence about which SUV to get?
I'm waiting to hear the reviews.
Well, Hyundai has got some news.
the Hyundai Ionic 5 beat out 32 of other SUVs to win Motor Trends, 2023 SUV of the year.
32.
They picked Hyundai, and it's the first time they've ever chosen an all-electric vehicle for this award as well.
So not only does it deliver utility, it also has all the benefits of being electric, and that's a win-win.
But wait, there's more.
To quote Motor Trend directly, they said, the Ionic 5 is a game-changing rethink of what an SUV can be.
and that in this year's incredibly competitive crop of SUV of the year contenders this Hyundai was well ahead of the pick their words not Hyundai's there you have it ladies and gentlemen the reviews are in and they are clearly spectacular the Hyundai Ionic 5 motor trends 2023 SUV of the year when it comes to award-winning driving Hyundai is thinking of every mile Hyundai it's your journey available in limited quantities and select states only
I also love how open you are about it because I've, of course, like I said, felt a lot of shame over my hair through all the years.
And so many women that you've said can relate. So did you, do you think it started in high school because of pulling out your hair?
Or did it just escalate to stress and so many? Like, what causes hair loss for people?
Oh my gosh. And that is like probably the number one question that people ask all the time.
And nobody likes the answer because it's so many different factors that can go into hair loss.
also at different stages of your life.
So, like, for example, right now, actually a lot of my hair loss is attributed to postpartum.
Like, you know, I've had two under two babies and each time postpartum, oh my gosh, just the
chunks of hair come out.
Yeah.
But, you know, before that, it was stress.
A lot of times it can just be like genetically over time.
But I think one of the biggest factors for a lot of women is just trying to get those cortisol
levels down because stress can definitely play like a huge factor in hair loss.
So, and so that's why with Divy, it's like, yes, this will help your scalp.
It'll create that awesome environment, but it's really important to focus on like overall health.
Yeah, it is crazy.
I noticed that, well, when I was losing all this hair, I was under so much stress from being the bachelorette.
I was drinking alcohol like never before just to like sometimes get through some dates.
Like, I was definitely numbing.
I was definitely doing it in an unhealthy way.
Yeah, it was not okay.
I'm like doing my hair every single day to be on camera.
And just like all of that, it was a perfect storm to lose a lot of hair.
So it is so many different factors.
And then once I was like, oh my gosh, I mean, I got to get my life back.
I started, you know, exercising, eating clean, cutting back and just, I'm obviously going
to drink wine forever, but like cutting back on the freaking alcohol every night and just
doing things that like feeding my body with the right like nourishment, I noticed in my hair.
And so I can only imagine that if you, you know, you're doing all that.
that plus you're using some sort of, what do you call it, like a stimulant, I guess, for your scalp?
Yeah. I guess. Yeah. Yeah. And doing that. It does have like the menthol is definitely stimulating your scalp. And we always say like whenever you put it on there, like give yourself like a little scalp massage. Things like that really do help.
Oh, nice. Yeah. I have a little scalp scrubber in my shower as well. Also, this is so random. You were talking about your brother and you have to always go scout out his girlfriends. But we, I want to whatever happened with your brother and the whole bachelor's dating thing you did. Because did he date.
girl that you picked?
Okay.
Well, first of all, you were so sweet to even respond.
I wanted to be a part of it.
I really did.
It was actually kind of wild.
So, okay, let's starting from square one.
My brother is 35.
Sorry, Landon, if that was off.
But he's, yeah, 35.
He's five years older than me.
What happened was he was back in Dallas, and he's single.
Like, I feel like he's dated like every girl in Nashville, but I don't know.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Yeah.
And so, you know, he was like, I have a date in Dallas.
I'm so excited.
And we were together and I was doing some Instagram stories.
And then this girl cancels on him.
And I'm like, why are you canceling on my brother, you know?
So I got on my stories and I was like, hey guys, you know, to my audience.
Hey, guys.
You know, my brother's available tonight.
Some girl just canceled on him.
Does anyone want to go on a date with him?
And this was like not, I was not thinking, I call it matchmaker.
I wasn't thinking anything like that.
and then like the DMs just started flooding and I was like okay wait a minute I think we can do something fun with this so that's how matchmaker was born my biggest thing is I'm like okay she's gonna marry my brother or be in our lives like I might as well help pick her you know yeah smart and so um season one we did season season one my husband and I are like up all night like setting up all these dates we're filming the whole thing we're editing everything in in real time season one he picked a girl named Peyton love her to death I actually
still see her around Dallas.
It didn't work out with them.
Yeah.
So I was like, okay, season two, we're going to Nashville.
Like, we're going to make this thing big.
Yeah.
So that's whenever you guys, we reached out to Caitlin and she was so sweet to reply.
I think you had family over or something because we wanted to get you involved.
We had Jed, Wyatt, yes, come to one of the dates.
And he's saying, he's saying on one of the dates.
On season one, we had, I think, I think Tasha was, I've known Tasha for a couple years.
I think she did something for it.
Hannah G.
we had
oh,
Connor Sealy.
Oh, yeah.
We had Chris Harrison
send in like
a little clips.
Yeah, like I was like,
we're going all out.
So anyway,
Matchmaker,
round two in Nashville.
He ended up with a girl.
They stayed together for a year.
We love her to death.
They just broke up.
So I don't think I'm going to do
season three again.
That was too much.
It's a lot of work too.
I did the same thing for a girl
years ago.
And she's actually married to him now.
and I set them up.
Yeah, we called it the Blaret.
She is, and they're dear friends of mine and they got married and they're like the cutest
couple ever.
So a year is pretty good.
I mean, track record, Bachelor couples usually don't end up together anyways.
So a year is good.
No, I was very impressed with myself.
And this is the funniest thing is since I did that, I get all these emails from these
random guys.
They're like, hey, I heard you're the matchmaker.
Like they, I don't know how they, there were a couple of like news outlets that like people
magazine like wrote something about it just yeah a goofy little article but like I think people
actually think I'm a matchmaker that's hilarious I got the same thing girls were like so do you
want to do one for me and I'm like that was a lot of work yo like I'm one for one I'm gonna end on a
high note I feel yeah I totally feel that's hilarious are you an OG like bachelor fan or do you watch
the show or how did you think to do matchmaker I am an OG but like when I say OG like let me tell
you I go back like I'm I mean you know I started with season one with I forgot
what his name was, I think it was like Alex. And then the Firestone guy, Brad Womack, all those guys.
Like, so I watched all the way like pretty much like religiously. I watched your season, like, I would say a little bit after Chris this season. Probably I started to kind of taper. There was like this like new wave of like really young people that came on the show. Oh, you know what? I watched till 2019 because that was the year I got married. So I don't know who was. Oh, there was.
on that season. But when I got married, it was just like a little bit more difficult.
And then I started watching and I'm like, wait, these girls are like younger than me.
This is, this feels weird.
I know. That's what. And then I end up being like friends with people. And then I forget my age
sometimes. Like I'm like, oh shit, I'm almost 38. I'm just like calling up 22 year olds.
Hey, you want to go up? Yeah. No, but I feel like like anything after like 22, 23, like it's all the
same honestly but but no so i i definitely was like an ogy fan i watched all of your stuff um you were i remember
when you were the um you had you were like the double bachelorette the double yeah
britt right people don't forget yeah well never forget that me i'll never forget it that was like
one of the best it was it was intense it really worked out for her to be honest with you because she's
the one married with two kids i always joke about that i'm like oh yeah really worked out for
her actually um would you have ever gone on the bachelor if i mean pre husband oh man you know
now that i've like learned a little bit more about the behind the scenes i don't think so yeah i feel
you on that that's like maybe like would you do it again i'm like yeah yeah i mean maybe if i was
like really really wanting to meet someone um i maybe i would go but i don't know i just feel like
it's changed so much so i don't know yeah yeah that's i mean okay hypothetically if
If you did, what would your limo entrance be?
Oh, my gosh.
I don't know, because, like, you want to stand out and, like, you want to show your personality
and you want to be quirky, you know?
Yeah.
I mean, I feel like I'd have to do something from, like, Texas.
Maybe bring him some water burger, you know?
Like, that would be cool.
You just got one of those in Nashville.
Oh, you did?
Well, dang, maybe not, because that was, like, a Texas thing.
Yeah, but that would still be good.
I feel like, because those nights are long and you get hungry is the lead.
So that's a good idea.
Yeah.
and like everybody loves a burger and like he guys love food so yeah I mean same you know yeah I think that's a good
idea bring them out of water burger yeah that's good speaking of you just doing things and then making them
happen like you don't care ABC doesn't need to call Netflix screw you I'm just going to do it on my own
and you did a whole talent show on your Instagram as well what did you think of that it's honestly like
my husband and I will be drinking coffee and we're like, what's the craziest thing, most random
thing that we can do today? So we were like, let's do a talent show. But I think too, it's like,
for me, it's, I love my, my audience. And like, I really want to create really fun things for them
that are super entertaining. But also, you know, like, I'm a mom. And so I can't be like flying all over
the place. I'm like, okay, what can I do in Dallas and bring people out? So we actually had
like a live talent show. And we had people submit videos similar to the,
matchmaker because for the matchmaker we had all these girls send in in videos and of themselves and
so we had dancers and um we had a hula hoop artist we had singers um the guy who ended up winning
was a like a professional jump roper like but like he was insane like you would my jaw was like to
the floor the entire time watching him and then they won $20,000 and people are like I know and people
like why I'm like I don't know like it just sounds fun like let's just do it.
I love it. I'm like inspired. I'm like, what can I do in my community to like create something fun and have people come together?
And I think that's so fun because, I mean, you really made it a whole production. And so obviously it was just for the Dallas area because you didn't want to like fly people in and you weren't going to fly.
No, we flew people in. Yeah. No, yeah, we go. We go all out.
Oh, yes. Honey, we went all out. I'm like, I don't care where you are. Like, we're making this big. And like, yeah. So one of the girls actually flew in from Nashville. She was one of the singers.
but in terms of like actually like the the event was actually in Dallas but we had some people like drive through for hours to go which was insane um so yeah it's kind of one of those things where I'm like yeah we got to keep this up we got we got to do it bigger next year yeah no kidding if you do anything in Nashville again let me know because oh I'll tell you I'll be there I'll be a judge I'll host it whatever you want me to do and then I'm like listening to you do all these things I'm like okay this adds up it makes sense why you were named one of the top 50 creators on the four
What an accomplishment, like freaking Forbes.
And I heard you went to the Forbes top creators party.
Tell me everything.
What the heck was that like?
It's so crazy.
Like, I definitely did not feel like I fit in.
I felt like I was like back in high school.
I met the DeMilio sisters.
They're super sweet, really down to earth.
I met a lot of new creators like Remy Bader and Tinks.
And no, you know what?
I didn't meet Tinks.
I think I, like, looked at her from afar and, like, I wanted to meet her, but then I never said hi.
And no, I mean, it was incredible.
I think what's so cool about that experience was like after doing it for 10 years and like after, you know, you think about back in the day, like just begging brands to like just send you like I said a free mascara.
Like I'm like, I will spend, you know, four hours on this YouTube video if I just get a free face wash, you know.
And so it's cool to like look back and see how much the industry has grown and to see that like even Forbes is acknowledging content creators now.
that was really special to be like mom look it's legit like this is a real job it's so true i feel
like that for sure to parents because like like you said your parents are like no you're not and you're
like well i'm going to follow my passion and then you build something actually incredible and special
and meaningful and that can actually you know support a family and then you go to a Forbes party
you're like look mom i told you that's amazing hey but it's the same
for you. I mean, even, it's all about kind of those opportunities that you get. And it's just like,
okay, like you got to ride the wave or not because even you like starting out with the bachelor
and a lot of people just kind of phase out and you never hear from them again. But like,
I don't even really think of the bachelor anymore whenever I think of you. Like I think of like,
no, seriously, like entrepreneur. You got your podcast. You're hosting. Like you're doing so much
more outside of that space. But, you know, it takes like a lot of just like those opportunities.
Just go for it. Like I don't know what I'm going to do. Just like do it. Just go for it.
It's so true. It's like yes and no, because also there's been so many opportunities that I've wanted to do that I've said no to because I'm like, I don't think that's good for me. And I don't think my audience would like that. That's been a really challenging part for me. But I mean, I've been on the internet now for about seven years, maybe, yeah, about seven years, 10 years for you. I just can't get over it. That's just such, that's a decade of being on the internet, which for a lot of people you could think would be exhausting, exhilarating, exciting ups and downs. It's probably all of those.
things, especially sharing your life with the world because you did create such a big audience.
Did you or have you burnt out? Have you been like, I can't do this anymore? Or do you just love
all the ups and downs? Yes, to both. Like 100% I've burnt out and it's so hard sometimes.
And my biggest thing is I've learned like whenever I'm really struggling with something,
like don't talk about it until you've kind of gone through it and learned from that experience.
Like, because a lot of times if you're struggling like publicly, like you're maybe not
strong enough to handle some of the comments or criticisms or things that are going to be thrown
your way. And so, but to be honest, like, I'm so obsessed with my job. Like, I'm so thankful.
And my biggest thing is like, like, every day, I'm like, wait, really? Like, people care?
You know, I think you probably, just like the relevance. Yeah. You're just like, oh my gosh,
it's very, like, humbling. And so as much as like, you know, I think I struggled just the same way
that anyone else would.
And I think my audience really also respects sometimes whenever I'm like, hey, okay,
like I'm going through this, but I don't really want to talk about it just yet.
And they're like, that's cool.
Like, it's good.
We totally understand.
Take your time.
So no, I love it so much.
And like I said, 10 years, I started when I was 19.
I don't really know any other like life, you know?
Yeah, that's true.
How do you?
So why do you share all these things?
Or is that weird?
I'm like, I don't know any different.
I don't know how I was 19.
19 years old. That's so little.
And it's great that you are, you love what you do because if this was just for a paycheck,
well, first of all, if it was just for a paycheck, people would see through that and you can tell
when people actually love, you know, their community or building something and being in this
kind of lifestyle because I think it's important to love what you do. And of course, that comes
with challenges, even if you have the best job in the whole world and you love every second of
it. Hey, want to smell better naked. I mean, you want to smell the best you can. Let's face it.
our underarms aren't the only place we have odor.
You know what I'm saying?

privates, and beyond.

anywhere on your body, okay? Pits, underboobs, thigh folds, belly buttons, butt cracks,
vulva's feet. I love that this can go on multiple body parts. It's so smart, so convenient.

What is the coolest thing in all the 10 years that you have been on the internet?
It was a coolest thing that's happened to.
Oh, man.
You know, I get asked this question a lot and like, I mean, that Forbes event was like pretty
cool to me.
But like, honestly, this is like maybe kind of lame.
But it's just whenever I'm out and about and people,
say hi to you and you get to meet them and talk to them and actually see someone face to
face. And it's not just like a little, you know, icon on their. That's always so surreal to me.
And the people that say hi to me are so normal and cool. Like they're just like, hey, actually,
my best friend now, I met in the shoe section at Nordstrom. And she can't see. She's like,
hey, like, I follow you. Like, I like your stuff. And I'm like, hey, like, can I get your number?
Like, she's my best friend now. And so I actually, yeah, she's my best friend. And so I actually, yeah, she's my
best friend and so I meet a lot of just like they're like my peers that's so cool yeah I think with the
community I have it's not like oh my gosh like can I get a picture it's just like oh hey Danny like I love
you know like thanks for the promo code like appreciate it like and so I love that like I love that sense
of the community and that's always so surreal I used to have the biggest fear I still kind of do
but I've kind of let it go uh there's a few people who can be quite
nasty to me of course we all have that if they have a presence online but there's someone specifically
who goes really hot and cold on me sometimes and sometimes she's like the biggest fan and other
times she's like I'm done with you and well and it it throws because I'm like I don't even know
this person but I feel like she's a friend but I'm like feeling like shame because what did I do
wrong and then I'm trying to keep the boundary of no she's a follower and blah blah but I'm
always scared that that person who just can like bring out the best and the worst in me online
will take a photo with me and I won't know who it is. Like I'm scared. I was hated me or is
like little slot is going to see me in an airport be like, oh my God, can we take a picture?
And I'm like, of course. And then they've been mean to me. That's such a fear of mine.
No, that's it. I've thought of that too. It's like an intrusive thought where I'm like,
do you actually like me or are you making fun of me right now? Like I've had those experience
where I'm like, no, I'm like, Jordan, she was a hater. She's a,
a hater. And like, Doran's like, no, she isn't. And it's just like me getting in my own head. I'm like, no, she, she didn't even really like me. Like I've seen it happen. I can't remember. I think it was Claire Crawley or, I think. So I took a picture with her and like did like a grossed out face pointing at her when she was kind enough to take a photo with her. And I was like that is awful. That's so mean. But I like that just shows so much about that that person. You know, Claire should not be upset like, you know, embarrassed about any of that. That just says a lot about that.
for the other person. I was like, oh gosh, that's awful.
No, that's horrible.
All right, little pause. You guys know all about my Peloton journey and how much I love
their rower. And we've been doing these really fun Peloton romance segments, but now the
romance is going to be dedicated to Zach's season of The Bachelor. I mean, what's more romantic
than dating a bunch of people at once, but really, I wanted to start giving the people what
they want, aka my takes on this season. Actually, no one asked.
But you know what? Here we go. Okay. So, episode four, Zach and the ladies go to the Bahamas.
Greer really reminds me of a celebrity and I cannot figure out who. Who do you guys think?
There are so many shower scenes with Zach. I feel like we're going back to the Sean Lowe days.
Who showers like that just rubbing their own chest down? Not I.
Cat gets the one-on-one. Greer starts crying. I get it. Emotions are heightened in that. I don't know. You get like weirdly jealous and
insecure and then you're just tired and you start crying.
Zach has a one-on-one date with Catherine,
a.k.a. Cat, and he is so into her. He keeps
saying she looks like a model and he's never dated a model before.
What about Rachel, Zach?
Back in the house, Anastasia says it's obvious Zach has chosen his favorites and that
she's not one of them. She says every time she's trusted a man, it's backfired.
Damn, the women the season have dated some really, really shitty men.
Okay? The bar seems to be in hell for them.
on the date cat opens up about her a difficult family life growing up and her fear that he wouldn't love someone like her
this was actually a really cute date for sure okay so the group date comes not even sure i should read off
the names because there's like 20 of them and i only know who a few are at this point um okay so they
have a beach party showing off their dancing skills the card says it's time to turn up the heat
his moves great it was so sad that gabby said that she
couldn't kiss Zach because she ate shellfish and has an allergy. That would suck.
So at first, these women seemed super cordial and all agreed they were going to share this time
with Zach. But then Anastasia asked for a kiss and then she steals them away and la-di-da-da,
the same old bachelor story. Then there's this whole situation where Kylie and Anastasia get into a fight
because Anastasia literally thinks that Kylie is trying to get into a fight. Lots of drama going on here,
which I feel like we've been lacking this season.
And the whole drama with the Instagram followers,
it's just a lot.
Anastasia says her words were taken out of context
that she was just talking to the other girls
about sharing her brand connections and contacts post show.
L.O.L.
So she had said something about how the 14 girls left at this point
would get 50K on IG.
The fact that this is even a conversation,
I don't know if it's true.
I don't know what's going on these days
with the social media world and The Bachelor.
Okay, Zach's one-on-one with Brooklyn is really, really sweet.
He definitely seems super into her.
I love that she's a little rodeo girl who's totally used to getting covered in mud.
I like a girl who can get down on an ATV.
She gives him a fist bump after they make out.
He's so thrown off.
I would totally do that.
This might be TMI, but like one time in a past relationship after the deed, I high-fived.
whatever. Okay, maybe that's inappropriate. She opens up to him about being in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. She's super vulnerable on this date and she's just been through so much. It's so hard to see. I feel like he handles it well and they really end up connecting and I definitely respect the heck out of her for opening up like that. So what do you guys think about the episodes ending with the rose ceremony again? It feels like this season, it's very old school. Like I said, kind of back to the Sean Lowe days. I think I'm here for it. Zach ends up sending.
Anastasia home after following his heart
and his gut. This guy really
does not have tolerance for the drama, which
I love. I also feel like
producers have something to do with that. They're like, we're going to
switch it up this season. So he sends the
two girls home. Now they're going to
London. Okay, damn, he's taking these ladies
to some great little getaways. I'm
going to London soon too. Okay.
And the previews. So much
romance coming up. Of course, I
got to get into the romance. Yes, you know
the drill. Peloton is bringing motivation

Just doing everything that you're doing while, like you said, being a mom of two under two, how, how? Because you have family close, that helps. But how do you continue to do everything that you're doing? And what is the most challenging part? Yeah. I feel like when people ask like other moms's question that like they assume that like I can do it all and I'm not like crying myself to sleep sometimes. But I mean, I'm so many friends with kids. I'm like, you probably cry yourself.
to sleep sometimes and that's okay. For me, it's like the mom guilt that that gets me. I just like I love my
kids so much, but I love what I do so much. But what I've learned or what helps me is like sometimes
it's not about balancing your time. It's more about like figuring out where you want to spend
your time and being there 100%. So it's not about being like equal here and equal there. It's just like
what is priority. And so I have these like non-negotiables with my kids that like,
I don't care what's going on, but, like, I am going to be there to pick up, you know, Stella from daycare.
Like, that's my non-negotiable. It's from, you know, 2.30 to three. And, like, it's just priority. So everybody, like, on our team knows, oh, no, that's Stella time. Like, Danny's not going to be available.
So just kind of having those, like, non-negotiables with my kids. But, like, I have a lot of help. And sometimes I feel like, I'm like, no, I want to be doing that. Like, I want to be doing, like, a lot of times, like, even.
even my husband will be changing the diaper. I'm like, no, no, like, I want to be doing this. Like,
I'm mama, you know, but it's, it's something that I'm, like, constantly learning. And I think
that just prioritizing my marriage, too, is so important because I know that, like, one of the biggest
influences that my kids are going to have is, you know, my husband and I's relationship. And,
and that's going to, they're going to see, like, you know, what that looks like firsthand, like,
how to treat someone, how to, you know, figure out, like, conflict resolution, um, how to talk to
people how to communicate. And so just having like a really healthy relationship with my husband is
probably top priority, which leads into going to marriage counseling, which I like hate and I hate
going to like I go. Okay, listen, like I love it because I know that it's good for me. It's like working
out. Like, you know, it's like going to the gym. Like I hate it, but I love it. It's that's how I feel
about therapy. And like I do my personal therapy. I do marriage counseling. I'm not like I'm not going to
day I like love going but every time I go I'm like oh man that was so good like that was so good and
and it was so healthy but I love that you prioritize your relationship for the kids sake too
because not only does that benefit you it totally benefits your kids to see a healthy
relationship like that and yeah that's I could go on another hour tangent about inner child work
because everyone that's listening is like stop talking about your therapy Caitlin no no it's so
good. Like I think that it's, it's so important. And like a lot of times you just kind of want to cover things up and not talk about it. But yeah, I try to talk about going to therapy and all these things as much as I can on my on my platform because I'm like, I know it's so good.
Oh, it's so good. And like, especially because you probably have a lot of moms that follow you as well and to talk about a postpartum journey and how to deal with that. I'm sure therapy helps with that as well.
Oh, postpartum for me is it takes it out of me. Both.
times with both of my kids. So my son is 10 months and my daughter is like two, about two years
old. And both times like the weirdest thing with my postpartum experiences, because you hear
about postpartum depression and a lot of times moms have these like feelings towards their kids or
for me, what I started to feel postpartum was like, wow, like y'all would be so much better
if I wasn't, if I wasn't in the picture. Like I'm, I feel like so weak right now. Like I can't
show up the ways that I need to show up. I'm not like I don't have the energy like I don't I feel
tired all the time. I feel like I'm not 100% there. So I like those were like kind of the
thoughts that I was having. Are you able to look at those thoughts in the moment and know it's
postpartum and that it's a lie or are you convinced? No, no, a hundred percent of it. It really
takes and this is why I tell people all the time like if you're struggling with anything,
you have to talk to someone about it because for me, it was telling my husband these things.
And he's like, you know, I don't think that's normal.
I think we should go talk to someone.
And I had never really, like I had, I think vitamins every night.
I had never taken a medication.
I had never, you know, experienced anything like this before.
And my husband was like, this just seems off.
And I would not have known unless he was the one that like was like, okay, let's do this.
And so, yeah, I don't know what it is, but just both of my postpartum experiences have been,
I've been really, really tough.
Wow.
I'm so sorry because that's,
I always try to think some of the lowest,
you know,
depression moments that I've had.
I was kind of able.
I mean,
it was like I knew it was hormones and hormonal and hormonal depression and PMS.
It was like I knew and my everything in me was trying to convince me that it wasn't.
But a part of me knew and I always wonder that with postpartum if you're able to see that
you're in it in that moment.
But I'm assuming no,
it's pretty impossible to,
to know in that moment or of course even if you knew to just come it's not like you can just come out of it
because of awareness you know it's something that like literally takes time and um obviously a partner
that can help you go talk to somebody or a friend or anyone that kind of you know point you in the
right direction to go get help and talk about it because when you can talk about something like
postpartum other people don't feel you know alone like we've all learned in the mental health space so
I love that you can open about it and talk about it.
And it must be hard, too, because everybody, you know, even if they're just trying to help, everybody has an opinion on how you should parent.
Do you get mommy shamed?
Oh, yeah, all the time.
I just do it.
Oh, my gosh.
You know, let me back up a little bit.
Let me first say that my audience overall is so, they're like, majority is so sweet.
And they're so encouraging.
And if I do something wrong, like one time I didn't cut the grapes like the right size.
and they're like, hey, Denny, like, I love you, but, you know, you didn't cut the grapes the right size.
Like, Stella could, you know, they can't chew at all.
And so most of the time they're sweet, but there are those couple, you know, 100 or so that are pretty aggressive.
But, you know, my newest thing is, you know, I just block them.
Yeah, I'm good for you.
I don't know.
I just kind of block them and move on.
And I think, too, it's just like we're all new moms at one point.
like we're all just trying to learn and figure it out together and I know I know behind the
scenes that like I would die for my child like I love my kids so much and so I mean that's
I guess that's all I really need to know but that's it still doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt
sometimes yeah I always wonder if they would say it to somebody's face um and sometimes
you know what in the mom world they probably would they probably would
moms are crazy yeah it's so true and it's like it's hard because they're passionate and they're
like mama bears and they want the best in it sometimes they don't know how to deliver it properly
if they're like kind of scrolling but at the end of the day I keep trying to tell myself like for mom
sakes like they care uh for me I'm like what you literally just hate me why are you here yes no I think
sometimes these moms are like not trying to help they're just like just hate hate me okay
do you ever I have a question do you ever get like a mean DM like that and respond yes oh I know
me too sometimes like I try not to
but a lot of times it turns out for the good
and they apologize or we can get somewhere and I'll be like
hey thanks for listening and they're like thank you
and it ends up being like
even if I'm like I really shouldn't be responding to this one
I mean I don't respond to them all but
yes sometimes I feel like hey maybe it's important to have this
conversation and to get on the same page and maybe they can
actually hear where I'm coming from and I can
maybe give them a little insight into like
how they're misunderstanding the situation
But other times I'm like, there's no point here and I'm going to let this one go.
It honestly just kind of depends like the mood I'm in.
But like if I do reply, it's kind of similar or I literally will reply and be like, wow, this was so mean.
This really hurt my feelings.
And then we're like, oh, you know, and then they become nice all of a sudden.
But I think sometimes they're just shocked that like you reply at all.
But yeah, and then sometimes I'm in the mood where I'm just like, no, let's just delete.
I don't have the energy right now.
Yeah, yeah. It's, it's, I'm the exact same. I'm the exact same. The other day I had one and it was, I forget why they were so mad at me. I really don't remember. It was something like they should not have been so mad at me for. And I said, I said, honestly, I'm like, a little worried about you. Like, are you having a bad day? And then the next day, oh, I'm embarrassed. I actually was having a bad day and I shouldn't have said anything and blah. And I'm like, okay, great. Thank you for taking ownership. Yeah. I'm glad that it's not like that I don't have the power to affect you.
that much that you can see like this is social media and you know but it's it's hard because
part of the reason I love having a platform is sharing so much with so many people but then
sometimes it becomes a great area of what they know what they don't know so then yeah happens
they're like they think they know everything but I'm like you really don't but I don't want to
share all that and it's it's hard it's a big responsibility totally and I totally get everything
you're saying I have the same type of people too where like they're so happy with you one day and
the next day, I'm like, their biggest enemy. And I'm like, what happened? I'm still the same
person. But yeah, there's a fine line for sure. Because you want to make sure that the people that,
you know, that you really feel like are your community are, you know, not treating you a certain way
and that you do have, you know, you're able to stick up for yourself. But on the other end,
don't let it like take over your days. And it's a hard balance to do that. So, you know,
it's not woe as me or you. It's just, it's just a goal. But no, for sure.
