Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Grape Therapy: Fantasy Suites with (Hot Rod)ney Mathews

Episode Date: December 16, 2021

Number one rule of The Bachelorette? Don’t underestimate the “Hot Rod.” Kaitlyn is asking Rodney the hard hitting questions for this week’s recap episode as the air fryer salesman joi...ns her on the mic for the first time. What does he think about Clayton as our next lead? Will we be seeing him on the beaches of Paradise? Would he rather be first, second, or third in the fantasy suite lineup? Rodney is not holding back as he shares his thoughts on Michelle’s final men including sleepy Joe, Christmas-morning-Brandon, and 6’8 Nayte! He’s also sharing a life-threatening confession, playing a round of Rapid-Fire-Rodney, and trying to draw with his eyes closed (which he’s surprisingly good at?!). Michelle might have not “picked” this guy from the tree, but we have no doubt he’ll be the apple of someone’s eye very soon… ok, we’ll stop now. Okay, so every time the holidays roll around, I really do my best to think of the gifts that I can give my friends or family that will really make them feel special and unique, because they are special and unique. Podcast One presents Off the Vine Grace Therapy. Caitlin Bristow's going to answer your questions. Drink to your confessions and hear what you have to say about anything Bachelor. Let's shake it up some more. Here's Caitlin.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Welcome to Grape Therapy. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. This guy is a freaking jam and was potentially an M&M. You'll know what I'm talking about soon. And I'm so happy we finally got a chance to sit down and do a recap together. He may not have been the one for Michelle, but he was the one we all needed and the one who stole all of our hearts. I had such a good time catching up with him and recapping this week's Fantasy Suite episode. I find out what order he'd want to go into the.
Starting point is 00:04:51 the Fantasy Suite lineup, if he's still searching for love, and what his favorite air fryer recipe is? Very hard-hitting questions. Then we play a couple games to try and get to know Rodney better and see his drawing skills, which are very, very interesting. We all love him. It's Rodney. Enjoy. Rodney, Rodney, Rodney. What's up, Caitlin? Oh my God. Finally. How are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm good. So much to talk to you about. Let me get to my notes because I'm just, I'll panic you over here. Okay. Obviously, Bachelor Nation fan favorite. Like, literally everyone wants more of you. And so, you know, we're going to give the people what they want. I haven't seen you since Men Tell All. So what have you been doing?
Starting point is 00:05:43 just been staying busy with work. So I'm really glad that I'm able to do that since we stopped recording and everything. I've been trying my hardest to kind of get in my little reunions here and there with the guys post show, post-Mentel, all that good stuff. So I did stop by to see
Starting point is 00:05:59 Pardite, Romeo, O'Loo this fast weekend. So it was really nice catching up with them. I've seen Nate so far. I'm just trying to schedule as many trips as I can before I'm fully back in work mode. So mixing it and work with pleasure at the same time. So no matter what,
Starting point is 00:06:15 I just want to get my reunions in as much as possible. Yeah, I feel like you were the guy that got along with everybody. So you've got a lot of reunions to plan. Yes, most definitely, yeah. I like being that guy. Yeah, you're definitely that guy.
Starting point is 00:06:29 And you also, when I asked about maybe seeing you on the beaches of paradise, I don't know if at that point you even had time to think about that, if that's something like if you were still heartbroken in that moment, but I mean, some time has passed. You giggled any update for us because a bunch of my listeners want to know
Starting point is 00:06:45 if you would go on Paradise, if asked. Oh, honestly, I really don't want to give a yes or no. I'm just, I'm not too sure. It's something on my mind. I don't want to completely write it off. It's something I would just want to give more consideration to, honestly. Yeah, that's fair enough. I mean, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:07:09 There's so much fun stuff that happens on the beach, but also it's like a time for you to have a full, blown reunion with all your boys. So it's fun, too. Yeah, from what I hear, it's a win-win situation. So we'll see. Only time will tell. I mean, it depends who you ask if it's a win-win situation, but that's, you're a good one, so you'd be okay. Now, what if you were asked to be the bachelor? Because on social media, you were friggin' shipped for the bachelor. So many people were Team Rodney. Were you surprised by that? And would you have been the bachelor if they asked? I was very, very surprised by that.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I honestly didn't think I was going to get as much feedback as I did. You know, I'm so grateful for all the love and support. I think I've said it before. It's kind of overwhelming in a good way. I just, you know, when I came on the show, obviously, I was just thinking like kind of, you know, one and done mindset. Like, I'm going to give it my all, do whatever I can to really win Michelle's heart. And that's it and that's that.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I honestly didn't think of anything like a light. after that, you know, which a lot of people are like, you're crazy. You should have thought about that. I'm like, no, I just wasn't thinking about being the bachelor or being in paradise. So it's been, it's been very overwhelming in a good way. But wow, I'm not too sure. That's a tough one. I mean, I'm not actually, yes, I am definitely trying to put you on the spot. But some people know the answer and some people would have to think about it. I mean, it is a big decision and you saw how much emotion and time and everything that goes into, you know, these
Starting point is 00:08:39 relationships so it is it is a lot so like that you would have to think about it but you're just to me and to everybody i think you're just so freaking relatable and i think that's why everyone fell in love with you this season and there's just so many people out there who felt like you know there's people out there i'm sure that are listening right now that don't feel good enough or wouldn't you know would be the underdog if they went on a show like this but i don't after watching yourself back did you see that you are clearly not an underdog like did you watch back you're like, you know what? And you don't have to sound like, you don't have to sound like, but I'm like, you must have
Starting point is 00:09:13 watched back and been like, why did I think that way? Absolutely. Yeah, I think this show really gave me just kind of like a great life lesson. Like never count yourself out. And I mentioned it before when you and I talked and when I mentioned myself as the underdog, I was really just thinking of the first couple nights, which, you know, as we know, being in that position, you're just, you're just shell-shocked. I know, first of all, I'm walking down those steps in an apple.
Starting point is 00:09:41 So I'm just like, what in the world did I get myself into? And I like to say that I do have a humble confidence. I'm never cocky, but I do have a humble confidence. And I do have a lot of self-awareness. And so I'm proud of who I am. I'm very happy about how it turned out. But when I walked down those steps in an apple, I was like, okay, I have no idea what this world is about to bring to me. And then I get down there, everyone's sitting on the couch, like laughing.
Starting point is 00:10:05 I'm like, uh-oh, what's going on with these guys? guys. And then they all get up from the couch. And I mean, Caitlin, you see the guys. Everyone's like six, three, six four plus like Nate six eight. And I just look around. I'm like, hi, I'm Rodney. Hi, I'm Rodney. Hi, I'm Rodney. And I'm in an apple. So I'm just like, oh, no, everyone's got perfect skin. Like, they're so cool. I'm like, oh, these guys, this is going to be a wild ride. And I don't know how I'm going to make it through. But I knew exactly who I am and what I bring to the table. And I know that like my energy and vibe is just a little different compared to what other guys could bring to the table.
Starting point is 00:10:37 So I just know I'm going to be me and that's the best I could do and that's all I want to do. And that's all I want to be. So I'm glad that obviously it kind of worked out. But yeah, I'm just, I'm really happy and it was a wild roller coaster. But I'm just so grateful for how it all turned out. Yeah, for sure. And I mean, there's so many people that go on the show and have other ideas in their head of who they want to be and what they want to be like and what would make them, you know, stand out or not be a villain or catch
Starting point is 00:11:07 her attention, you know, like so many people are thinking these things through where your mindset was I'm going to make sure I'm true to myself. And I think that always works out the best for those people because it's only a matter of time. When you're living in a house with everybody and everything is being watched, it's only a matter of time before your true colors show. So you might as well start off with who you are from the get-go. Exactly. Yeah, I'm glad I'm glad we could see got eye on that. Yeah, I felt the same way when I went on the season of The Bachelor. I was like, people probably love me or hate me, but like as long as I am, like, I wanted my family and friends to watch back and be like, that is so her and she is being so true to herself. Exactly. That's
Starting point is 00:11:48 the best compliment I get from all my friends and family. They're like, it was just amazing watching you on there and just you being you. Like still cracking jokes, still being funny. But at the same time, you still have a deeper, softer side to you that people don't get to see and you opening up and being vulnerable. So that's the best compliment I get from people who know me and people ask like, oh, is Rodney actually like that? It's like, yeah, that's who you use. Yeah, exactly. Vinoes. Do you own or rent your own home? Genuinely curious. I'm sure you do though, and I bet it can be hard work. But you know, it's easy. Yeah, you do. Bundling policies with GEICO. Guyco makes it easy to bundle your homeowners or renter's insurance along with your
Starting point is 00:12:27 auto policy, which is a good thing too, because you already have so much to do around your home. So go to geico.com, get a quote, see how much you could save. It's Geicoeasy. Visit geico.com today. That's geico.com. Quick little pausy pause here to talk about something very important in many of our lives, and that's fertility. There's actually so much about fertility. That is a complete mystery, I think, to us all still.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And that's where modern fertility hormone test comes in. So think of your fertility hormones as tiny little detectives. That's kind of cute. They can bring you tons of insight into your egg count, reproduct, reproductive timeline and even possible outcomes for egg freezing and IVF. Modern fertility is the easy and affordable way to test your fertility hormones at home with a simple finger prick. They mail it in with a prepaid label.
Starting point is 00:13:14 You'll get your personalized results within 10 days. Traditional testing with your doctor can cost over $1,000, but modern fertility costs $159 to get the same information. And if you go to modern fertility.com slash off the vine, you can get $20 off your test. You'll get insight to how many eggs you have, hormone levels, and other important fertility factors, and the results goes deep into what every hormone means, and you can also talk one-on-one with a fertility nurse to review your results and options for next steps. So right now, modern fertility is offering my listeners $20 off the test when you go to
Starting point is 00:13:48 Modernfertility.com slash off the vine, and that means your test will cost $139 instead of hundreds or thousands it could cost at a doctor's office. So get $20 off your fertility test when you go to Modern Fertility. dot com slash off the vine modern fertility.com slash off the vine now back to off the vine grape therapy okay I have a question that's going to be maybe controversial for you but do you think actually actually the final two Nate and Brandon do you think when you watch them I mean I know you're really close with Nate when you watch it are you like oh that is really who they are or do you like is is Nate really that chill and like nah nothing fazes him and like is he really
Starting point is 00:14:34 like that and is Brandon really like this sweet little puppy dog or is he just like that with Michelle like are they being true to themselves yes most definitely uh they are they are being true to themselves and one thing I could say I know Brandon does have a side to him that you could tell he's just very he's very vibrant and I'm glad that that was shown as well Nate obviously knowing Nate so well like I do, I kind of wish that more was shown to show his vibrant side as well. So I think, you know, sometimes on the show it can be portrayed as, and I mean, no matter what, both of those guys, they are who they are, they're both amazing men. And I've mentioned it before, too.
Starting point is 00:15:16 I'm so proud to just be a part of that Final Four because Nate, Brandon, Joe, these are amazing guys. and to be near them, that same caliber of guys. I mean, they're phenomenal. So I knew no matter what Michelle was going to end up happy with whoever she chooses. But, yeah, I kind of wish that they would show more of the entire story of Nate because I do know him so well and I know what he's about and what he brings to the table as well. And I think they focused and hone in so much more on him. being unsure, a little nervous, a little worried and concerned.
Starting point is 00:15:55 I mean, this is a complete 180 from his dating life. And I know with both Nate and Brandon, which I'm glad, obviously, I mean, those two deserve to be the final two. But you could tell with both of their histories, what brought them to that point and why they are reacting the way they are to this situation. And so I kind of wish- I wouldn't know why Nate is so chill about her, like, going to fantasy suites with other. I know that's part of the show. I know that's the format, I know, but is it, is he really truly unbothered by it? His confidence is just a little different.
Starting point is 00:16:29 He, he knows from day one, he always knew where he stood with Michelle. And whether it was that first impression rose, the first hometown rose, whatever it may be, and obviously me and him living together, I would hear first and his relationship with Michelle, I'm like, okay, I know where I stand with Michelle, and I think it's pretty good, but it's not that close. So I just, I was very honest with myself and knowing Nate where he is and where he stands with her, he did have a very strong relationship and love story with Michelle. So I know that they are highlighting Brandon's, which is great, because as you see, both of these two people belong to be there. And it kills me when people, and that's what I'm saying, the top four. I mean, yeah, we could be interchangeable.
Starting point is 00:17:18 We're all great guys. But those two belong to be there in Michelle's heart and Michelle's mind. And that's all that really matters at the end of the day. So I have nothing bad to say about Nate, Brandon, Joe. They're all amazing guys. And Michelle pick those two for a reason. I know it's going to be a tough decision for her. But I do wish that they would show a little bit more of Nate so people could see why this is such a tough decision for Michelle to choose between Nate and Brandon instead of, oh, it should fully be team Brandon.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Like, no, Nate and Brandon, it's a good competition between for Michelle's heart, you know. I love that. That's great. And I think you saw this on Instagram, but I asked my listeners for a bunch of questions for you because I knew they would have some. It's so funny that the Apple thing doesn't get dropped, right? Like, that's your shtick. You came out. That's how people know you.
Starting point is 00:18:03 That's how they remember you. I had so many Apple notes in my prep doc. And I was like, you know what? I'm going to like maybe throw in one because it's just you're more than apples. So I'm just going to get this one out of the way. Okay. The most frequent questions. But what is your favorite apple?
Starting point is 00:18:21 Okay. I like this question. For me, it is a tie between Grady Smith and honeygris. I love both of those. Now, obviously, I was so thrown off when Michelle asked me that. Like, I was just so nervous. You know how it is coming out of the limo. Your nerves are just going 100 miles per hour. I just didn't know what to expect. I get up there. I'm in a red apple fit. And Michelle's so quick. Like, she's so quick. I wasn't expecting that. And she's like, oh, hi. You know, I thought it was going to be a high-and-bye situation. Like, hi, I'm Rodney. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I'm in this apple. I'm out. And Michelle's like, oh, no, you know, she would like stop me. You'd be like, oh, so what type of apple are you? I'm like, wait, what? Oh, my God. Like, I wasn't prepared for this. I did not do my homework.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Like, no one told me she was going to ask what type of apple. So instantly, I just named and listed my favorite one that I had growing up. and I mean when I was a kid I was like mom either one green or red and then I got a little bit older I was like wait green apples granny smith oh I love those and I just had no idea I panicked I was like well clearly I'm a granny smith and I'm like oh my god I walked down the steps and I'm like what did I just say like hopefully do I get a second take those are the memorable moments those are the memorable moments we love that that's you know again it's you're nervous it's relatable uh did you have any other limo entrances like in your head or were you like no that's that's the one i'm going with so for me i knew i wanted to do something just a little different and i was debating between both uh the apple entrance which you saw and an m&m entrance and because i told her like i wanted to tell her hey you're going to melt in her mouth and not in her hand oh something like that i kind of like that oh see katelyn you thought about that so quick um but i wanted to let her know hey by the end of the show i want you and i to enjoy your brand new
Starting point is 00:20:20 initials as Michelle Matthews. And so I wanted to bring her those M&Ms. And I thought that was pretty good. And then last minute, I just kind of switched the apple because I was like, you know what? She's a teacher. I want to really stand out. And the M&M, I've kind of felt like, even though I think that's good, that's clever, it's kind of cute, but I don't know if it would have been as memorable as me being
Starting point is 00:20:42 in a full, full apple. So it was just kind of one of the other. But either way, I mean, everything happens for a reason. So here we are. I mean, you really committed to the Apple role, and we love it. And we love it. Okay, I have other questions here on my phone from listeners. Oh, hit me.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Emily Chris Ten wants to know what was it like for you dating in California before the Bachelorette. Oh, interesting. It was definitely pretty tough for me. So I became single right before. It was definitely pre-COVID that I became single. So I told myself, you know, I wanted to focus more on me. and my work, and I didn't have time to really date at the time when I first became single. And so that was back in 2019, and then 2020 hits, and I said, you know what, I think it's finally
Starting point is 00:21:34 time for me to start dating. I think I'm ready. And then as we had a 2020 hit, and it was horrible, horrible time for everybody in every phase of life. So sadly, I just didn't really get to have the whole dating experience. And then when I finally did, it was kind of closer. to, it was about a year, year and a half ago, closer towards end of 2020. And so, yeah, I would just try to try my hardest to go on a good amount of first dates and
Starting point is 00:22:02 kind of figure out, you know, what I like, what I dislike, try to put myself back out there. And then, yeah, it was on that time when I was kind of nominated and recruited for the bachelor's. I was like, oh, you know what? You know, I'm getting closer to 30. I think it's time for me to kind of put myself out there. So that's how it happened. I'm sure dating won't be a problem now. Are you on dating?
Starting point is 00:22:24 Oh, yeah, this one's totally from Amanda, one, two, three, four. Are you on dating apps? No, I'm not. No, I'm not. That was actually from me. Are you dating right now? Are you single? As of right now, I am single.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Once again, I'm kind of back in that mindset. It's so fresh from the show. I really like to just focus on me, focus on my work, try to do whatever I can to achieve my goals. and then I kind of think, you know, next year when the time is right, I'll be ready to put myself back out there and date again. But right now I'm just really focused on myself and my personal growth. Somebody actually else, I was either in my notes or on the phone, but I just remember this, as you said, about work.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Somebody wanted to know what you do for work. Just a quick cliff notes version. I work in outside business to business sales. So I've been working in sales for six years now. working sales for six years. And the reason I chose sales, going to school, I wanted to be in broadcast journalism. So I wanted to be an ESPN sports news anchor. And I could see that. Yeah, so that's kind of where my life and trajectory started after sports. And so after playing football, that was really my big goal. And then when I did a, I actually did an internship at ABC 30. And I loved it.
Starting point is 00:23:47 However, I knew my life was kind of taking a different path and I wanted to kind of go back home closer to home, you know, near Rancho, near L.A. and be closer to family instead of traveling the nation working for news stations. So that's kind of where my goals shifted. And I figured, hey, what career can I go into where I can talk to people, create relationships and get paid for it? And I'm meeting new people and connecting with new people. And so I think sales was kind of a dust bit. I feel like you could sell a ketchup-flavored popsicle to a woman in white gloves. That's a new one, Caitlin. I've never gotten that one. People usually say like ice to an eskimo or kind of like any type of cliche stare at I have a new one for you. I like that. I like that, Katie.
Starting point is 00:24:37 You can recycle that. Haley Davis wants to know if you have a celebrity crush. Oh, yes. You know what? I have to say a couple. Can I, can I give a couple names? Of course. Okay. Oh, my gosh. I feel like everybody is as J-Lo. So that's just kind of, I mean, J-Lo is beautiful. Like, that's just J-Lo. She's amazing actress, very talented. So, yeah, I got to put J-Lo up there. Oh, I love Megan Good. She's a great actress, too. I was just watching a thing like a name. Wait, who's that? Megan good I love Megan good
Starting point is 00:25:14 She's amazing Googling Oh yeah Megan she's in think like a man I was just watching that She's in a lot of different movies Yeah yeah yeah Yeah I grew up having a huge
Starting point is 00:25:25 I grew having a huge crush on her She is boring Yep Yeah I feel like there's probably A couple others I can name But I'll just I'll chill out on that one You're getting very giddy over there
Starting point is 00:25:40 I like it Yeah we'll keep it at though It's just, it's a great question. I was like, oh, you're really putting me on the spot today. There's more where that came from. Okay. The very Betts says, how offended are you that Clayton got his entire bachelor brand as the underdog? Oh, man, intense questions today.
Starting point is 00:26:01 I mean, to be honest with you, it's pretty funny. Clayton and I have already spoken. You know, we're very, we're very good for. friends. We're very close. And I know that it's not, I know that it's not his fault. That was never Clayton's intention. So I hope that people understand that was never Clayton's intention and say, you know what, I'm going to take that line. I'm going to use that. That's, that was never Clayton's intention. He's like, I'm picturing dogs and puppies and stealing hot catchphrase. Let's go with that. It was like Clayton in like the meeting room, like, calling the shots.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Exactly. I know Clayton too well, and that definitely was not him. So him and I, him and I have already spoken about it. And I mean, there's, there's nothing awkward between us. We're very good friends still. I'm very supportive of him and happy for him. And he, he deserves to be there. At first, I saw the, I saw the poster. I was like, oh, that's, that's interesting. I can't believe that happened. But I really have, I have no, I have no bad blood, no ill will towards anybody. in marketing promos, I really don't care. I just continue to, I continue to live my life and thrive and whatever I'm doing. Wait, what would piss you off? What pisses off Rodney? What really grinds your gears? What makes you tick?
Starting point is 00:27:23 What's your pet peeves? I think this one, Caitlin. Okay, because I rarely, it's almost impossible to make me mad. It's almost impossible. If someone makes me mad, Caitlin, they really messed up because I'll never get mad. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:38 You know what? A huge pet, a huge, A huge pet peeve of mine, though, I'd have to say a sink full of dishes. That kills me. That kills me. And now, anytime I have that, I'm like, oh, no, I got to get this taken care of immediately, especially because I live with roommates for so long, a good portion of my life. College, right after college, I would just be like, hey, guys, I need someone to take
Starting point is 00:28:02 care of these dishes immediately. Rodney into you, no, I've been eating on paper plates and plastic works. Like, I know it's not me. You know, that's post-college. Now I'm a little bit more grown, but still, you know, that's, that's probably my number one pet peeve I had to say. Yeah. I mean, did you know that sometimes just from bacteria in your sink, it's dirtier than your toilet? Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Oh, no. Yeah, we can't have that. Yeah, we can't have that. That's going to piss Rodney off. Okay. Yeah, I refuse. Okay. Chelsea Lynn Larson says, hot take on air fryer.
Starting point is 00:28:39 give us your best sales pitch. I have been waiting for this one. I am very, I don't know. Yeah, I'm sure Michelle's probably already told you this, Caitlin, but yeah, I'm very passionate. She told me on my podcast, so everyone knows you're passionate about your air friars. I'm very passionate about air friars. I have two cookbooks for them, 600 plus recipes. You could do it all in an air friar.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I mean, Caitlin, do you own an air fire because I love them? I do. Okay, perfect, perfect. If not, I was going to ship you one right now. Make sure I go straight to Amazon. Mine is a go-wise air fryer, so I highly recommend that. But either way, you could do it all in an air fryer. Whatever you need, light, fresh, crispy, healthier.
Starting point is 00:29:22 It's just amazing. It's got the perfect crisp that you need. I'm telling you, Caitlin, when I do like my brown sugar-glazed salmon, it's heavenly. Oh, I love it. I love how fired up you get about the air fire. It's perfect. And I'm like, Jason, I always make fun of Jason because he always wants to be like, I always forget the guy's name. He does all those infomercials where he's like, they, but wait, there's more.
Starting point is 00:29:50 And when Michelle told me how passionate you were about airfires, I'm like, I'm going to see who's better at the infomercial, Jason or Rodney. Me and Jason will do a pitch together. Okay, you two together would be hilarious. I'm going to make you guys do that for my social media. I'm going to make you do an Air Friar commercial. We're going to get you the biggest Air Friar brand and you're going to be set for life from Air Friar. I love this.
Starting point is 00:30:16 And me and Jason have to have our aprons ready to go. I'm ready for that. Oh, of course. That would be rude if you didn't. Got to have aprons. Okay. We're going to go into The Bachelor at Recap because we don't have too much time left.
Starting point is 00:30:28 But first of all, could you imagine having to stay in the same room as the men at this point in the season? Like, even as good at friends as you are, no matter how chill everybody is, it doesn't matter. That is uncomfortable. They only started doing that on, I think, Peter's season. And I feel like it's, like, I get uncomfy watching that because I'm like, what are they supposed to say? What are you supposed to say when you come in and sit down and be like, yeah, we, you know, we, we did the fantasy sweet thing. Like, what are you supposed to say?
Starting point is 00:30:59 Yeah, I wasn't, I wasn't too sure what to expect, obviously, watching last night. episode, I can only imagine how those guys felt. And I don't know if Joe said it, but someone said, yeah, it's horrible. Like, this is a straight mind game to go from friend to foe. Like, everybody was so cool. And then you get to fantasy suites in this setting. It's like, oh, no, we can't be cool anymore. Like, this is getting more and more real as the base. Too far. It's too weird. It's way too weird. So, no, I'm, uh, honestly, I'm very glad I could not be in that situation. I couldn't imagine how I would feel my heart would be raised. saying my mind would be going a million miles
Starting point is 00:31:36 of hours. So no, it would almost like me not like the other person. Like as much as I like them, I'd be like, I can't like you. Or I can't like in the same room as you, or I'm going to start hating you because I can't do this. And then would you rather be first, second, or third in the fantasy suite?
Starting point is 00:31:52 I tweeted this and everyone had a different answer. And I don't know my answer is kind of like, I actually didn't do that until I'm going to say my answer now. I just wouldn't want to be in the middle. I feel like you either want to go first or last but people are all like this sloppy sick and so i'm like oh god have you ever had like a weekend out where maybe like it's just like
Starting point is 00:32:13 for people who are like you know it's not like you're in the same bed sit like you shower you have days between it's fine it's the bachelorette there's a gray area between what's like you know weird and what's acceptable but what would you prefer I would prefer to be the first fantasy suite date, have a nice night out, make a great first impression, and really set the tone of, you know, hey, I'm here for you. I'm all in, you know, really sharing my feelings and making sure she knew, like, okay, you know, that kind of set the standard, I would assume, you know. Totally. You got to set the bar high. Yeah, that's the best, that's the best answer I could give,

Alrighty, I'm no magician over here, but lately I've been feeling like one when I do my laundry because I've been using OxyClean, white, revive, laundry, whitener, and stain remover, and let me tell you, it really does work like magic. I've just been organizing my closet for fall and winter because I know the colder weather is coming soon and I've definitely found a couple of items that need to be brought back to life and that is where oxyclean white revive comes in. Okay, so I have to explain to you why it really does seem like
Starting point is 00:34:40 magic. Oxyclean white revive has 40% more whitening power than chlorine bleach per load. So without any of the negatives of chlorine bleach so you can revive those dingy whites in time for fall, bringing them back to brilliant and bright and it's safe on colors too. I had to the negative. I had a white shirt that I actually thought was heading straight into the trash, but I soaked it overnight, and it really did come back to life. This is just going to be such a game changer for the next time I stained something too, which, let's face it, is inevitable. It can be a mess sometimes, okay? So work your magic with OxyClean White Revive. Visit Myoxyclean.com for cleaning tips and tricks. This is Off the Vine, Grape Therapy.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Yeah, Kaelin, what order would you want to go in? Would you want to be first or last? I would want to be last actually because I already know my bar is going to be high and so I'd want to leave them with like wow I'm not going to forget that and that was the last one so that's forgot about the rest good point I was just tried to like go against what you said so we had different answers I don't know go there it's weird either way okay okay so brandon was the first fantasy sweet date they went horseback riding which is super cute but i always wonder this when guys ride horses does that not hurt your junk it it does it does you just have to you just have to try to shift it um to make sure it's somewhat comfortable um so yeah it's difficult either way yeah i feel you got to like really use your leg muscles
Starting point is 00:36:23 to not just be bouncing up and down the whole time because especially right before the fantasy suite, that could affect someone's performance. Absolutely. I didn't think about that. That's a good point, Caitlin. You know what? That's what we think about here on Off the Vine.
Starting point is 00:36:37 That's where our brain goes, okay? And Brandon seems so in love with... Brandon seems so in love with Michelle. It's so heartwarming to see how happy he is. I kind of asked you this before, but with your experience from him on the season, is he really always that giddy and happy and sweet and like he's got like this little kid charm about him yes most definitely yeah what
Starting point is 00:36:59 you see with brandon is what you get um he is uh yeah he's very he's very charming he's very youthful he's vibrant um he's he's definitely an all around great guy and uh yeah i think he does kind of always have that giddy nature like oh what are we doing what are we doing um so yeah he's a really great guy yeah he's like a kid on christmas morning every day um joe Now, Joe is a mystery to me. He was the second date. He's just so quiet. If he's sad, he's got the same face.
Starting point is 00:37:29 If he's mad, it's the same facial expressions. If he's happy, it's the same facial expressions. And I know that he was so uncomfortable with cameras. And I know he's so reserved. Did you get to see a different side of Joe that we didn't get to see? I did, thankfully. So the secret with Joe is that, which obviously you don't have a lot of time in this setting. But once you get to know Joe and one he knows he could try.
Starting point is 00:37:53 you and be comfortable around you, that's when he'll open up. And so thankfully, Michelle got to see that. Thankfully, I got to see that because I was with him 24-7. So it didn't happen that first week. It took some more time. You know, I'd be like, hey, sleepy Joe, cool. Like, what's up, man? And then he'll crack a spa. I'm like, okay, like, I'm breaking down the barrier that is Joe. So, yeah, that's the thing. Once you get to know Joe, and yeah, if you're lucky enough to have the privilege to know Joe, he will open up. And you'll see. that different side to him. But yeah, at first, if he doesn't really know you,
Starting point is 00:38:27 he is very reserved. So that's just kind of how he is. That's how he's always been. But, I mean, no matter what we all love, Joe, he's a really great guy. He's an amazing person. He seems incredible. I wish I got to know him better. But Michelle mentioned after his date that it was a game changer. And so I was there.
Starting point is 00:38:44 And I was like, after watching her overnight date and her date with him, I was like, wow, I was really shocked. she sent him home, which only goes to show her connection with the other two. But were you surprised when Joe got sent home? I was. Yes, I was at the time that he did. I think knowing Joe and Nate's so well and knowing where they stood with Michelle,
Starting point is 00:39:10 I'm like, okay, this is going to be tough, but I think these two will be top to. And once I, obviously, once I found out and everyone else found out last night, I'm like, oh, wow. You know, so even, even I was a little bit shocked. And I remember when after the first episode, a ton of friends and family hit me up, like, oh, well, Joe's winning. This is obvious. Follow, or I'm like, oh, we'll see, you know, plot twist. I know.
Starting point is 00:39:37 It's so funny how everybody thinks they know. But I think Michelle's figuring it out as she goes. Like, even, you know, at the beginning, it's everyone talks about frontrunners or whatever. But she really is, you know, figuring it out as she goes, too. And it's, I mean, yeah. It's going to be really hard to watch next week, regardless of what happens. Then obviously, Nate Wend, had his date. Their chemistry is obviously undeniable.
Starting point is 00:40:01 They're both very much in love. It's very sweet. Rose ceremony. What did you think about Brandon pulling Michelle aside to just have that? Do you think he was scared or do you think that would have saved him in that moment? Or what do you think his thought process was when he pulled her aside? I thought it was very interesting. I didn't see that coming.
Starting point is 00:40:19 You know, I never would have ever expected that. So seeing Joe and Nate's faces and knowing them so well, I'm like, oh, my God, I know what they're thinking about. Like, what the hell is going on? And so Brandon, I do think in that last ditch effort is just like, hey, there's three guys left. It's really tough to know who she's going to pick next. I think Brandon was saying, hey, if this is my last night, I'm going to go all out and do whatever I can to leave that lasting impression of Michelle. I'm here for you. obviously he's admitted before how much she's in love with her.
Starting point is 00:40:53 And so, yeah, I think it was kind of like a last-ditch effort just in case if he was the one going home, at least she'll know how I feel. And, you know, I don't even know how to phrase it, but I'm sure in that moment it was kind of tough for everybody. Totally. Obviously, you've heard that I make people give me confessions on the podcast, some sort of embarrassing story that you want to share with the class. So if you would kindly do that now, I would appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:41:19 I could use a good laugh. Okay, Caitlin, well, I have a lot of embarrassing stories. So just to pick one, oh, it's a tough ask, but Caitlin, I got you. Let's see. I'm going to pick a recent one, actually. So something that happened this year, oh, this is embarrassing. Okay, so something that happened this year, Earlier this year, I have, so I have like this little tiny, like, sore, and I thought it was a sunspot on my lip.
Starting point is 00:41:57 And so no one else could really see it, but obviously I'm me, so I know it's there, and it's, like, bothering me. It's killing me all the time. So I have just, like, this little spot here, and I go to the dermatologist, they recommend me an ointment, and I'm like, cool. So I have this ointment, and the ointment says apply twice a day. I instantly took that as first thing when I wake up in the morning, and then once I go to sleep. So put this ointment on, go to sleep, rub it all over, like, while I'm knocked out. And then I wake up with just this horrible taste in my mouth. I'm like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:42:30 And as dramatic as I was in that moment, I was like, I'm dying. Like, I've just been poisoned. I'm dying. I'm freaking out. Oh, Kayla, it was bad. I called poison control. No! I call poison control.
Starting point is 00:42:45 And the lady of poison control is just, you can tell she's instantly fed up. Like, I guess she's at a few of these calls. And I call her and she's like, what's wrong? What did you use? I'm like, okay, I use such and such ointment and I put it on at night. It's all in my mouth. I'm dying. Like, it's bad.
Starting point is 00:43:00 It's really bad. And she's like, sir, you'll be okay. You'll be fine. And hung up on me. And I'm like, no. Poison control hung up on me, Caitlin. So I'm just like, oh, no. Like, I'm going to die.
Starting point is 00:43:11 This lady doesn't even care. About an hour or two passes. I call her, I call them back. it's the same lady. She's like, St. Saul from earlier, right? And I was like, yeah, but my mouth, it's like, it's bad, it's bad.
Starting point is 00:43:25 I don't know what's happening. And she was like, sir, you will be fine. We have much more pressing matters to deal with. Hung up again. So I'm like, you know what? Today's not the day. If I die and go out like this,
Starting point is 00:43:37 I walk up to the gates, mouth poison. It's embarrassing. It is what it is. All from a little sore on your lip. All from a little sore. And then, yeah, the next day,
Starting point is 00:43:48 I was fine. I, like, drank some Gatorade. I had some water. I was good to go. I took my temperature. I stayed in bed for, like, three to five business days. I was fine. I was treating it like I was really about to just die. My favorite of that story is that you started with. So I had a sore and I needed ointment. And you didn't really say where first. And that wasn't even the punchline. Like, that wasn't even the That's not even the worst or worse or it's this little tiny sore and I was like okay whatever but the fact that oh my god poison control hung up on me Caitlin they didn't even care but I was just being really dramatic in that moment so I mean at least you know you're being
Starting point is 00:44:32 dramatic and everything's okay you're here to you're here to tell us about it and you you lived through it I live to tell the time I'm still here so glad you're here with us today thank you I appreciate it. Oh, that's a good. You didn't. That's actually kind of cute. Because we didn't obviously get enough of Rodney, we're going to do Rapid Fire Rodney,
Starting point is 00:44:53 where you just, it's the easiest questions of the whole podcast. Are you ready? Okay, I'm ready. Let's do it. When's your birthday? March 25th, 1992. Well, you're just a young little baby.
Starting point is 00:45:10 March, what does that make you? What sign are you? I'm in Aries. Aries. Okay. What is your favorite animal? Lion. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:20 If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? There's two spots. I don't know why I've always wanted to visit Brazil for some reason. I just, I heard it's pretty beautiful down there. Yeah. But more importantly, I think the first visit I would want to take would be I'd want to go to Italy. For some reason, I'd really want to go to Italy. It's heaven on Earth.
Starting point is 00:45:40 It's heaven on Earth. I'm obsessed. Okay, how many pillows do you sleep with? I have five on my bed. I only sleep with one. I'm pretty basic. Yeah, I'm pretty basic. Oh, sleep of one.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Okay. I need to. Okay. Have you ever had a nickname from, like, growing up or still to the stay, like, your family or anything? Yes. I've had a couple in football. Randomly in football, I would always get a hot rod.
Starting point is 00:46:11 So I would get Hot Rod a lot, which is whatever. Yeah, but that's a good nickname. The show, through the show and work, the show and work the past couple years, I've gotten a Rancho Rod a lot. I've gotten a lot of Rancho Rod, so yeah, I don't. Anyone who knows me close just calls me Rods, so I'm part with that. Okay, I like Rod. Karaoke Night, you're there.
Starting point is 00:46:38 What are you singing? Easy. Chris Brown. Christmas. Way through. Even if it's not Christmas. Even if it's not Christmas. I mean, look, Christmas is my
Starting point is 00:46:49 favorite time of the year, so you know everyone's happy right now. In the Christmas spirit, like, oh my God. It's just such a good song. Like, oh, it's such a good song. And I know Olu started singing. I don't know if I should start singing. Like, I can't do it right now. But, um, put you on the spot. No, I love. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:47:05 no. Growing up, I probably had some vocals, but not anymore. Not anymore. I grew out of that. Oh, my gosh. I'm like, I'm obsessed with Christmas and I'm so sad that I'm in like hot weather at California for Christmas. So I decorated my whole room and like in the hotel. I got like Christmas lights of Christmas tree over there. I've got a ceramic Christmas tree over there with lights. I've got light up Christmas presents over there. It's really, oh, I got a wreath hanging over my lamp. I had to do something. I love Christmas too. Okay. What is your favorite food?
Starting point is 00:47:37 I love I love I love pizza I love chicken and waffles and I love pasta so I'm just all love in place but I love those are three really good ones though okay are you an introvert or extrovert I'd say I'm an extrovert yeah if you had a warning label what would it say geez welcome to Roddy Matthews get your mind right I guess I don't know like it's it's such a Is it get your mind right or else? Yeah, it's just like you don't really know what you're going to get. You know, when Nate and the guys first saw me, they'd be like, oh, you know, I thought you were going to be the guy starting trouble and you know you had your arms out and you had this mean mug face. Like, what are you talking about a mean mug face?
Starting point is 00:48:23 Like I'm always smiling, but yeah, in that first five minutes when everyone's judging you. Don't underestimate the hot rod. Oh, I like that. I like that. I'm not going to go with that one, I'm kidding. I'm going to see that one. change your bio on Instagram I got you
Starting point is 00:48:38 okay what I already know this one what's your biggest irrational fear it's oh possums yeah possums scary but spiders are worse I think me and Joe agreed on this like spiders are way worse
Starting point is 00:48:54 I don't know if you remember that blooper with Clayton having a huge spider on his suit like he was across yeah he was across the couch and I spotted it And a couple of us spotted first, and I was hopping over my couch. And I was like, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Like, we're not doing this. We're not doing this. I refuse. And so, yeah, I hate spiders with a passion. It's pretty bad. I actually don't have that big of a fear of spiders. I don't know why. Like, I don't love them.
Starting point is 00:49:23 But I'm like, I see when I would just be like, oh, the spider. I don't even want to kill it. Okay, Caitlin, do you like, you're not the type of person who would, like, touching and let it just crawl up your hand, right? Absolutely. Not. Okay. Just animation. Absolutely not. I just, I'm not like,
Starting point is 00:49:39 yay, a spider. I'm like, eh. And then I'm like, oh, poor thing. It's not in its habitat. Okay. Okay, but you're so sweet for that. I'm such a weirdo. Yeah, except for if I saw a bird, I hate birds. Oh, birds are scary. Thank you. They're unpredictable.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Yeah. 100%. Okay. Thank you for agreeing with me. Since you hold the record for most blindfolded moments in Bachelor history, I actually don't know if that's I just made it up. I want to play a game with you where you're blindfolded. It's going to take literally four minutes of your time. I'm just going to ask you a couple of questions.
Starting point is 00:50:13 You have to draw the answer on a piece of paper with your eyes closed or a blindfold, whatever you have. And you have 15 seconds to make a drawing and I have to guess what it is, okay? Okay. Do you want to do with your eyes closed or do you have a blindfold? I feel like you're the kind of guy that would have a blindfold laying around. Oh, my God. I can close my eyes.
Starting point is 00:50:31 You can trust me. No blindfold. You better do it with your eyes closed. I got you. I guess I can see you. Okay, who is your favorite sports team? Okay, you want me to close my eyes and write it down. I'm going to be terrible at this because I don't know a lot of sports teams.
Starting point is 00:50:49 I'm not drawing the logo, right? I'm just writing it down. No, you have to draw the logo. Draw it. Oh, I got the logo. Okay, I'll make it quick. Okay, I got this. Oh, this is going to be ugly.
Starting point is 00:51:00 There's no way I'm going to, there's no way I'm going to know that. This is going to be so interesting how this comes out. Okay, can I open my eyes? Yeah, now show me. Oh, that's ugly. Oh, that's so bad. Let me see. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Can you see that? Oh, no. Okay, is it the Raiders? Yes. Oh, my God. that's so bad are you kidding me what i think i went off and i don't even really know like teams that well but when i heard you saying skull something and like a hat i was like the raiders maybe did you you forgot i can still hear you i know i know how would i cheat i don't know that's your
Starting point is 00:51:55 favorite team oh i'm playing i'm playing okay next one this is going to be this is going to be good Okay. What is your favorite air fryer food? Easy. Okay, I think I kind of already gave it away. Okay, let's see. Okay, let's do this. Okay.
Starting point is 00:52:18 All right. I think it's a master. Oh, my God. That's so hideous. What am I doing? Let me see. What is that? is that a chicken leg
Starting point is 00:52:34 no it's not wait it's a um it's a rib eye nope it's a um it's tedious that's what it is it's a
Starting point is 00:52:54 salmon with a lot of paprika yes and brownish sugar snacks. Oh, that is the salmon? Yeah. My last ditch effort there. I was like, salmon, I don't know. Oh, this is my favorite thing. Wait, that's my favorite thing to put in the air fire too. It is? Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:53:16 I know it. Okay, last one. Oh, my God. There's more. Okay. I'm ready. What is one thing? You can't go a day without. out. Oh, my gosh. It's going to be so bad.
