Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Grape Therapy: Paradise, Pregnancy, and Pumpkin Martinis with Ashley & Jared

Episode Date: September 9, 2021

Ashley, Jared, and baby Tommy Pickles (we’ll explain) are on the mic today to talk pregnancy updates, their soon-to-launch business together, and get into this week’s double dose of Bache...lor in Paradise! Consider this episode the start of a very long baby shower, as Aunt Kaitlyn gets ready to welcome Ashley and Jared’s baby boy. Even though pregnancy hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the couple, Ashley reveals why she loves Jared more than ever and why she thinks Jason is definitely going to ace the dad game. We all know that the beaches of Paradise are VERY meaningful to our guests, so they, along with KB, have plenty to say about what happened on our screens this week between exes, new romances, and clout chasers. One thing is for sure: no one on Paradise or any season of the franchise can begin to compare to Kaitlyn’s group of men. Ashley, Jared, and Kaitlyn then enter confession territory where we find out what goes into conceiving a baby and how they themselves were conceived wayyy back in the day, because we’re all old enough to know *NSYNC’s first album over here.  Be sure to follow Ashley and Jared on IG at @ashley_iaconetti and @jaredhaibon! Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdads Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Polter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So whether it's your first time experiencing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times, you're going to fall absolutely in love all over again. So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen. This week's grape therapy is sponsored by Chinet. Visit MyChinette.com to find out more. Obviously, I love any excuse to have hangouts with friends and family, whether it's baby shower,
Starting point is 00:02:13 holiday, maybe Dahl's birthday, I don't care. All equally important events. But one of the things that I kind of dread, especially when I'm the host, is the cleanup. Let me tell you, Chinette brand has been an absolute. game changer when it comes to the cleanup game because they are brand focused on premium disposable tableware. So all their products look incredible, work amazingly well, but make for the easiest cleanup ever. They have lines of products including their Chinat Classic, Chinat Crystal, and China at Comfort. Everything they make is durable and perfect for the messiest of foods,
Starting point is 00:02:44 but you don't have to worry about smashing or shattering anything because it's all shatterproof. And their products are environmentally conscious, which I love. They are always cut resistant, made to be microwave safe, which comes in super handy for those delicious leftovers the next day, and make for the easiest cleanup ever. Next time you're hanging out with friends or family, you have to make sure to have this on hand. Chinet can handle anything from messy ribs to big old slices of cake, and it really is the perfect brand for all of life's get-togethers. Visit MyChinette.com to find out more.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Bristow's going to answer your questions. Drink to your confessions and hear what you have to say about anything Bachelor. Let's shake it up some more. Here's Caitlin. Welcome to Grape Therapy. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. I'm so excited to chat to these two. I love them. They deserve all the happiness in the world. We had such a great catch up with Ashley and Jared. We all know them and love them. I loved hearing all about their journey to pregnancy, all the wonderfully awful pregnancy things Ashley is experiencing. Their upcoming projects that are working on a new cafe by day, lounge by night, martini bar. I love this idea. We'll talk more about that. We do a good old juicy recap of this week's happenings in the current days of paradise. Still lots of tears. So much more planned
Starting point is 00:04:14 meetups for paradise and fame. Kenny's Love Square, Becca and Thomas. I mean, I don't know, so much to go over. But without further ado, here is Ashley and Jared to talk all of the goods. Hey, cuties. Hello. Hi. Well, just to let you know, this is the first time we're ever using this mic, so you're our guinea pig. Oh, I hope it works.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Do you think like one of those easy mics where you're just plug it into the computer and plugging it into the recorder? I mean, I think it's working. It does sound better for Jared. Ashley, you sound far away. Oh, really? You've got to lean forward, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:49 I'm a very loud man You are a loud man Like when you're on the phone in the car I'm like Oh you want to Well that's because Wait No I was going to say you're from New York
Starting point is 00:04:59 No you're not What's your excuse? Boston's the exact same thing Same thing right Okay that's Jason I'm from fucking Providence all right That's Jason is the loudest man On the planet
Starting point is 00:05:13 Like every phone call I'm like same thing Ashley I'm like You are yelling right now And then, my God, if I ever raise my voice, he's like, to raise your voice. I'm like, you're always yelling. Oh, my God. I can definitely imagine him on the phone.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Oh, it's never like a just conversation. It's, okay, I got a checklist here. And we got this going on. And this, this, he, his mom's like, how are you, Jason? He's like, got a checklist for her. He's going to be like Robert De Nairro and meet the parents where everything has a schedule. And he's like, four o'clock, we got to get going. that would be him except for that he's also not a punctual human being so it really doesn't
Starting point is 00:05:52 make sense yeah that's very surprising i know he's he's late for things a lot which i know that's like it doesn't add up because he is a scheduled person and needs like routine and always has like a checklist but is never on time it's very interesting but enough about us how cute are you too yeah we're doing well ashley is feeling a little better yeah i've like come out of the dark side, I suppose. Good. Well, are you sure about that? No. That's why I say it was such as Vincy. I also need to make sure that everybody knows like, I'm like, yeah, I'm not throwing up right now, but like I still don't feel like, like this still sucks. I hate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're just not fucking up lungs constantly. I have like this post nasal drip that apparently is quite common, but it's like
Starting point is 00:06:40 disgusting. Like mucus is coming out of all the holes. Oh my gosh. What? Good time. It's so funny because so many people, you know, there's people like Jade who just like connects with every pregnancy she has and just feels beautiful. And then there's other people who just like, you know, and it's hard to because I know you've probably felt this or I even was like talking to my producer about if there has to be trigger warnings in this podcast
Starting point is 00:07:11 because also there's people who would give anything to feel sick and have mucus coming out of all the holes, you know, to have a baby. So it's so hard. I mean, there's just different phases of life for everybody. And you're in that phase where you are pregnant and it's not easy. Yeah, I know. I think about J2, who was like super sick during all of her pregnancies, but continues to want to be pregnant.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I think for everybody out there who's criticizing Ashley saying you should only, yeah, you should only appreciate for being pregnant. We are very grateful to be pregnant. it is very difficult. I've had friends that have tried for years upon years and have done all these different procedures and have spent so much money and it's terrible. And so don't, anybody who's listening to this, don't think for one second that we're not eternally grateful to be, for Ashley to be pregnant because we're not pregnant because I'm not doing any of the work over here, except I go get her a McDonald's breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. Other than that, I don't really have much
Starting point is 00:08:06 to do. But that also doesn't mean that like, because Ashley's sick constantly growing up, she's not allowed to say, wow, this kind of sucks. Of course. I think it's okay for you not to enjoy pregnancy. I think like if people don't, like they should say it more often. Or you enjoy aspects of being pregnant. Not really.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Okay, never mind. Just kidding. Just kidding. You know, what do you mean? Well, yeah,
Starting point is 00:08:30 I mean, obviously, she's got like hair growing on her stomach and she's constantly puffy. My stomach is hairier than Jared's and I'm not even chop it. It might be higher than Lois's. It's weird. What are you do the weird?
Starting point is 00:08:44 things to bodies like the hormones make hair grow out of places that aren't it's not supposed to grow out of and like that's i get laser hair removal or i get waxed and it it'll grow back because of hormones okay yeah it was so weird because i've been lasered for a while and like yeah you go back and you do like your two or three time a year check you know whatever touch up thing yeah i normally you know and yeah i'm due for it but I know that my hair growth right now is at such a rapid rate. It has no nothing to do with the fact I haven't gotten in touch up. Her stomach just looks like my beard, patchy air everywhere.
Starting point is 00:09:26 It's so weird. It's dense. Anyway, it's dense. Did you say it's dense? Anyway, enough about this. I mean, I feel bad. I mean, obviously, like, no, like, we're very grateful. And a lot of it is me, like, poking fun at all this.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Of course, a lot of it is being self-deprecating. Yeah, and really, like, I'd be like this, and it's kind of funny that we all come out. That's what people expect from you, Ashley. You know, what people love about you is your honesty, how raw and real you are. I think you're so in tune with your emotions and you talk about things that, that's, it would be weird if you just stayed quiet through your pregnancy about your journey. It's your, it's how you feel and you're talking about your feelings. You're doing classic Ashley stuff. I just imagine Ashley trying to hold everything in while she's posting Instagram stories, like her lips quivering.
Starting point is 00:10:13 because she just wants to say so badly how much this sucks. And she's like, I'm so happy. And no, we were like, you know, we like announced at nine weeks. And I could not keep it any longer because like part of our job, it's so awkward to say is like documenting our lives. And my life for like six weeks prior to that was literally just watching Grey's Anatomy on the couch for hours and hours and hours. I was like, I have nothing to prove to. I have nothing to post. Yeah, it was. There was like, I'd say. a six week period where it was
Starting point is 00:10:45 it was bad it was really bad I felt bad yeah that's that's not fun and you're allowed to feel shitty and talk about it so it's somebody's gonna have a baby boy honestly like on like a cute note um like I love Jared more now than I ever love Jared isn't that weird
Starting point is 00:11:03 uh really some people are like first off some people like think that their husband is gross while they're pregnant and I think that Jared is like the sweetest most like magical human being in the Tyrol which I always thought but he like the fact that he can love me through the grossness makes me love him even more because it's just like so
Starting point is 00:11:21 impressive. I feel like I don't deserve any of this praise. I feel you know that TikTok where it's like somebody does the bare minimum and it's that huge round of a flaws. That's what I feel like right now. I literally just go to McDonald's drive through and get her food and I come back and she's like, you're just the greatest man ever. I'm like, here's your biscuit.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I don't know. That's so sweet. But sometimes it is just those little things that, you know, that go the longest ways when you're feeling so crappy and someone just brings you, like, especially because you've been throwing up for so long, a biscuit's going to mean a lot when you bring it to the door and you can keep it down. Like, that's going to be a glorious little treat. And, oh, I hope I'm like that. I picture myself being just negative bitch the whole time.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Oh, Jason's going to be so kind to you. I feel like, I feel like he's just going to be like, what do you? Do you know how powerful you are? Do you know how what a powerful woman you are? I feel like he keeps saying that. Oh, my gosh. He's going to be the best. So we've been talking about friends who don't have babies yet,
Starting point is 00:12:27 but like are engaged, you're married, and plan on it one day. And we've been like ranking how the husbands are going to do. And I think Jason gets the best. I think he's number one. To be fair, I have not been a part of this. But what do you mean in the car? We did this. I have no memory of this.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Oh, my God. What would you rank him? Is it like one out of ten? Yeah, how'd you rank? I don't remember any of this. Oh, we didn't write them by number. Jared, we were in the car and way the doctor and you're like, he'd be good. I was like, no, he's going to be like this.
Starting point is 00:12:54 He's going to have this. Wow, my mind. Oh, my God. Maybe I have pregnancy brain. Anyway, point is, yeah, Jason's going to be great. I think Jason's going to be like, you're an empowered woman. You can do that yourself. That's how I see it going.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Okay, I don't want to get carried away here, but I just love. this next sponsor. Are you picking up what I'm putting down? Walk my dogs? Checking my mail. I'm talking about a way, the modern lifestyle brand that creates thoughtful products for every traveler and every kind of trip. I think you guys know that I travel a lot, like a lot, a lot. Okay, seriously. that's where Rothes comes in. Rothy's surveyed thousands of customers and the number one word used to describe their shoes is comfy. They are comfortable literally the moment you put them on. That was something I actually was so surprised by because I know in the past it's definitely

That's R-O-T-H-Y-S-S dot com slash vine. Now back to Off the Vine Grape Therapy. I'm also making this your first baby shower game.
Starting point is 00:16:00 This whole podcast, you can't say baby or you owe me a dollar for the baby jar. My producer will be keeping track of how many times. See, we have to come up with the code. Actually, do you have that app where it tells you what size your baby is? I actually looked it up today. It's a trick. She's trying to make you say the word.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Don't say it. I just tricked myself and said it. Well, yeah, but you, who owes the dollar? Okay, yeah, it's you, but I'm going to try and play two. But I thought maybe you had that app where it tells you what size it is. And then you could call it that. Like, is it a line? What is it?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Cucumber today, actually. I picked it up early this month. morning. I look up every week when I cucumber. That can't be right. That's pretty big. Yeah. Cucumbers, no, it can't be that big. Cucumber's like that big. No, Jared. I don't know what type of cucumbers you're talking about. Like this. Like a baby cucumber. It's like a pickle. Oh, like a pickle. They also, some of them are comparing it to a size of our iPhone. Sweet potato, but a sweet potato is pretty big too. Yeah. Okay, I want to call it a pickle. That's really cute. Yeah. Pickle.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Yeah, Tommy Pickles. Tommy pickles. That's what we'll call it. So we're going to keep track. But the jar of money is just going to go towards a baby gift for you guys, okay? I just said it. Okay. There we go.
Starting point is 00:17:21 You us a dollar. Anyways, I obviously wanted to talk to you guys about that. But what else do you guys have going on in your lives? Because obviously big news is the Tommy Pickles. But Ashley, you were talking to me the other day about something you guys got going on. and I thought that would be fun to talk about. We're pursuing Jared's dream. Oh, I'm going to let him talk about this.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Yeah, well, I've always wanted to own and operate my own restaurant or business. So my favorite concept of all's time is a coffee shop that turns into a martini bar at night. And I've always wanted to own a place like that. And now we are pursuing it. So we found a place in South Kingston, Rhode Island, which is about 20 minutes from Newport. It's right near the beaches, beautiful place. And it's going to be called Audrey's Coffee House and Lounge. And it's going to be a coffee shop that turned.
Starting point is 00:18:06 turns into a lounge at night. It's named after my mom. It's named after Ashley's mom. Yeah, I love the name Audrey. Well, I love the name Audrey. It just reminds me of something very comforting and homey and classic and elegant. And so I love the name Audrey's for a coffee shop. Like, hey, let's go grab a coffee at Audrey's.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Let's go grab a drink at Audrey's. And so we've been working on it for about two months. And it's just me right now. So it's quite a lot. It's been overwhelming, but extremely fun. and so we're hoping to be open by mid-October and it's it's you know it's really good timing to open so hopefully it works out because yeah I really want there's a beautiful stone fireplace in there and so I really want people to imagine sitting on a couch a leather couch with you know a pumpkin martini in their hand with a sweater on in front of a fireplace those are the vibes that we're going for so it's really exciting I'm super excited about it I'm extremely nervous but um it's been cool
Starting point is 00:19:06 wait that sounds awesome i want to go to audrey's right now and you sold me with like anything pumpkin and like a drink and a sweater and a view like you're saying it's on the water it's not on the water it's about five 10 minute drive yeah but it's a beautiful it's in south county commons and it's this beautiful beautiful plaza and uh it's uh yeah i used to actually go it used to be a coffee shop that i used to go to all the time when we were just friends he was like, I want to take it to this coffee shop. Yeah, I want to take it to a coffee shop. Well, we don't own the space, but, you know, we rent the space.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Wow. How cool is that? I mean, your guys' story everyone knows is so straight out of a movie. And so it's so cute to think back that that was a coffee shop you wanted to take her to. And now you're going to open your own little thing that you've dreamt up. Because you were in the restaurant industry for a long time. So you know how much work that is. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's addicting. There's kind of like a high that I feel like people who work in the hospitality industry get, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:04 when it's busy and anybody who's worked in restaurants can tell you like when you're just trying to keep your head above water for like four hours through the dinner rush and like you just rely on each other and you're just pumping food out and getting drinks out and and just doing whatever you need to do to get through the rush there's there is this adrenaline that I love so I'm excited to get back into that yeah he's really we did this Duncan drive-thru this is what I really saw him in his element we took over the Duncan Drive-thru for like two hours on, like, it was like a charity thing in May. And he killed the drive-thru. He was thriving. Oh, it was so much fun. If you're like this in the coffee shop, we're going to have no
Starting point is 00:20:46 problem. French vanilla cream only no sugar. I need two hots on the fly. First of all, I'm so excited for that next thing in your guys, that next chapter in your life with like a little family running a coffee shop into a martini bar. And oh my gosh, that's going to be so excited. I will totally fly down there just to come and we'll try and get spayed and sparrows in there. Oh, well, that's the plan. Yeah, so I'm emailing with the person that you sent the contact Ashley. So isn't it? And Ben's coffee. Ben's coffee. Caitlin's wine. I mean, I don't. We'll have Nick's essential, essential oil smelling up the place. I was laughing. My producer was trying to come up like, how do you guys all know each other?
Starting point is 00:21:30 And she was like, oh, wow. This is a lot to take in. in like you and Ashley were on the same season and Jared was on yours then you went to their wedding you had to like be around five of your exes I'm like but but I'm like but we're like a little happy weird family uh you know it's so cool that we can think back to how it all started and where it's at now and then to think of like you know what we're all doing in life and bringing it all together in one little martini bar I just think it's the best it's just like it's a warm hug on a cold day you know it's nice that is very very awesome and it's been great that we've been able to keep those friendships for the past six years seven years now seven since we've filmed holy crap wow yeah seven is this like week almost we're old I feel old every day well that's the problem with filming again is I keep getting older but they stay the same age yeah everyone's in like their 20s and I'm just like, damn, I just, you're like the, you're like the high school Harry that hangs around the corridors and you're like, you know, I was the bachelor at once.
Starting point is 00:22:41 I was her. You, you, I was that person. Caitlin, I'm always mind boggled by like the hours and the amount of like just time that you have to be on when you're part of the show. So like, do you look at these cast members, especially the lead and be like, wow, I could have only done this at the age of 2930. I could not have done it now. I think about that all the time because I'll be a part of now these late nights
Starting point is 00:23:07 and like, because you know, in the first few weeks, there's so many people and the rose ceremonies go to like 8 a.m. And I'm like, I am too old for this. How did Chris Harrison do this three seasons a year? I'm like, it's crazy. The hours that you put in. And then I think about like, then I'll get a few days off in between. But no, no, the leads and the contestants, they keep going. There's no time off. It's so draining. There's adrenaline, of course. And like it's exciting but looking back on it or thinking about doing it now just like reeks of effort like I'm like that's that's a lot I know we were talking about how if you're because we're thinking about versus Joe and he's 35 I think there is like some sort of
Starting point is 00:23:52 additional adrenaline that you get when you're single like there's that like single energy yes single energy is a real thing and taken energy is definitely a real thing. It's a lot lower. I feel that. What do you think about the Joe and Kendall situation that happened on Monday? It's so sad.
Starting point is 00:24:13 It just sucks because usually in a relationship where it ends, you can kind of put the blame on one person and there's one person that you dislike more than the other. And in this situation, I just love Joe and I love Kendall. And they're just two awesome people that did not work out for a multitude of reasons, obviously logistically. them wanting to live in different parts of the country seems to be the number one reason
Starting point is 00:24:38 and it just sucks. I think what I wish so badly was that Kendall went down there with a different mindset because it seems like she went down there with the intention of possibly getting back with Joe and then possibly dating other people and kind of just kind of letting the chits fall where they may
Starting point is 00:24:57 where I wish she, it seems like she wants to get back together with Joe and I wish she went down there either solely for Joe like she went down there and said I'm only here for you. I want to leave Paradise with you and I want to give Chicago a try because I miss you so much
Starting point is 00:25:13 and I'm willing to try this or she goes down there like Joe did and says I think that I I'm ready to move on I'm ready to date other people and that's what I'm doing here but now it's like this awkward I still think about you a lot
Starting point is 00:25:27 and I think we're not done but I'm not ready to move to Chicago and it's like, well, what was the point of coming down here then? I just wish she said, like, I'm ready to move to Chicago. Yeah, or give it a try. You know, if you're going to come to Paradise and make this grand romantic gesture for Joe, which it appears that she is, some people are saying, no, I think she wants just closure and date other people.
Starting point is 00:25:48 That's her lying to herself. That's, like, her, like, best effort. She's, like, maybe in an ideal world, I'll be ready to move on when I get down there, but not really. I mean, like, that's just, like, not realistic. Yeah. And then they had to do the old tear drinker walk down memory lane. Oh, and that was another example.
Starting point is 00:26:06 She told her wants to get back together with Joe because Joe brought up, you know, hey, this is kind of weird for us, obviously, because this is the first place that we talked. And then she was like, that's the first place we kissed. She got excited when he brought that up. Yeah. The nostalgia would overpower. Oh, that's so sad.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I always root for people to, like, get back together. I always joke that it comes from, like, having divorced parents and having that, like, I'm like, imagine my parents go back together. That's why I feel. Yeah. That's how I feel with two people, like, they were together and they broke up. And then there's like a chance for them to get back together. I'm always like, oh, love, like, their love story will, like, be so crazy if they get back together.
Starting point is 00:26:45 And then it's like, no, that's, he's, Serena has, is his number one priority. And there's nothing wrong with Joe deciding that as well. I just, it seems like they were in this weird in between, you know, because Joe even went back to Serena and said, you know, I don't know if I'm, he pretty much said, I don't know if I'm completely over Kendall, but I want to pursue your relationship too. And I don't know. I mean, Serena handled it well,
Starting point is 00:27:11 but it's just such a weird place to be. And I feel like they all kind of need to either go their separate ways or Joe and Kendall really try to ignite things again. And it seems like it's going in the direction that it's, it's going to be Joe and Serena and then Kendall's just going to leave. Yeah. I think if there was going to be anything more between Kendall and Joe, we would have seen something because we've only, like, we had four hours of TV practically
Starting point is 00:27:34 in between their initial conversation on Monday night and the end of Tuesday's episode and we never saw them talk again. I know. That was so weird. On Tuesday, I was like, ooh, what did we get? Like, it was nothing. It was, there was no, we didn't see anything of Joe and Kendall. And I thought that was so strange after that big Monday night thing with them. It was interesting. We got five minutes. It would have made more sense to us. Just like a little snippet of, how they were doing living in the same environment. Because you can not avoid each other, which is extremely painful if you're in Kendall's situation.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Oh my gosh. I wouldn't be able to stay. I, if, like, if I was still having feelings for Joe and that was my ex, I would not be able to stay and watch him pursue a relationship with somebody else. Oh,
Starting point is 00:28:19 here we go. Oh, shit, I just opened up a can of worms. No, it's okay. I told Kendall, and I was like,
Starting point is 00:28:26 I cannot possibly relate to what you're going through, because you guys were in a actual solidified relationship living together for two years. So it's like it's totally incomparable. But I mean, I also understand being in love with somebody and watching them date. And it's just so difficult. Like we got to, you know, we hung out with Joe and Kendall.
Starting point is 00:28:47 We went on a double date with Joe and Kendall. Like we got to see them in their relationship and you just, I fell in love with them together. And so now seeing them go through this heartache, it's just, it's so much more impactful. because we know these people and we know what they had and that's why I'm with you where it's like come on like give it a go give it a try
Starting point is 00:29:07 but you know Serena seems super nice and her and Joe seem to have a good thing going she is she's more mature than I am and I'm freaking 36 and she's 23 or 24 I'm like what the hell man you know what I was disturbed by maybe you would be disturbed by this as well do you remember last week that the producers definitely fed her a line like if this season was going to be named after an in sync album it would be no strings attached
Starting point is 00:29:31 and i was like oh cute line you know i was like i remember where i was on march 21st 2000 that was the day that no strings attached came out and then i was like yes she was born was that two stop it she was two oh no no no no no that is I'm just going to go watch murder she wrote and eat dinner at four and then go to bed guys. That's my life for the rest of my days. I have vivid memories of doing my homework, my sixth grade homework, listening to the album, going to Sam Goody and getting my reserved copy.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Sam Goody. Is that like the CD store? Yeah. That is so wild when you think about it that way. Because, yeah, that's funny. You're like, you were two, so who told you to say that? Yeah. you don't know what no strings attached was you don't know what it felt like you don't know the album cover
Starting point is 00:30:28 no and like you weren't even bored when in sync had their first album come out holy you're my first concert and sync was my first concert and that's a cool verse first concert yeah my second one yeah my second one was bush x like so random anyways yeah so you know what for me i'm still having a little a hope for Kendall and Joe, but I also am, if it's Joe and Serena, then I'm reading for them too. Yeah, if it's not Joan Kendall, I need, I need either Joe and Serena to leave or I need Kendall to leave because I can't watch this anymore. I can't. I know. It's too hard. Like, I feel Kendall's pain. No, you need Joan Serena to actually make it to be altar. Like, that's how intense this love better be. Yes, it better be that, it better be that kind of love. Yeah, and it's still going to

There really is nothing wrong with bringing something a little bit extra to the tape. Starting point is 00:32:02 And as the first hard seltzer with antioxidant vitamin C, Vizzy brings something truly unique and delicious to the table. I'm all about that hard seltzer life, especially if I'm having a little drink during the day. And Vizzi's flavors are so delicious and perfect, really no matter what time of day you're enjoying a drink or two. they have eight dual fruit flavors including strawberry kiwi, blueberry pomegranate, papaya passion fruit, and watermelon, and I think I've said a million times just how much I love watermelon, especially when the weather's still warm. Yeah, that one, it hits different. So that's a go-to for me.
Starting point is 00:32:33 It never really hurts to add some vitamins and antioxidants into the mix. And with Vizzi, you can enjoy a refreshment and get some of that antioxidant vitamin C in at the same time. It's just a win-win all around. Upgrade your hard seltzer to Vizzi. Starting point is 00:32:57 grape therapy. You know, everybody loves the love stories of paradise, but everybody also loves the drama and they're like, Demi is just always what are our feelings on Debbie? Because I like, I understand that she, you know, is making good TV and
Starting point is 00:33:16 stuff, but like that girl is just a bit of a mess. She knows it, but I don't understand it because it's very contradicting when she says things like she's just there to have fun and she'll do anything with anybody's man and then she like,
Starting point is 00:33:31 but then she gets her heartbroken over Kenny and I'm like, what do you really want? What does she really want? She just wants an ego stroke. Yeah, right? In Kenny's situation. Yeah, I mean, I think that she wants to make good TV. Like, that's what I think, like we talked about.
Starting point is 00:33:47 So it doesn't mean that she's not emotionally invested, which is what I think happened with Kenny. I think she just got like a little bit of an ego bruise because she was like, with me, you don't want me. But, you know, that doesn't make her a bad person. Like, it's a television show at the end of the day. And I think, you know, she's been through it before. You know, she knows what she needs to do to stand out.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And it's like, yeah, she's going to say things, controversial things, and she's going to go after other people's guys. And she's going to make a splash. That's what Demby does. That's why we like watching Demi. Yeah, and, like, the thing with Demi is she's one of those, like, it's hard to talk about people because, like, we have known her for a few years, and, like, we've hung out with her, and she's always been very nice.
Starting point is 00:34:28 But there's also times where I'm watching her on TV, and I'm like, holy shit. You're like, no, stop, just stop. The whole, do you want to go to the boom boom room thing in the mix of a breakup conversation? Makes me cringe so hard. And then I was like, oh, that was a drunken conversation. and she's going to so regret that. And then she says it again the next day. And I just feel so,
Starting point is 00:34:52 I've done so many more cringier things, though. So it's like I'm the last person to say stuff like this. I literally made a date card for Jared to go on an overnight date with me, like pretty much against his well. So, so like that's the thing, but that's why we loved watching Ashley. Like, this is why we love watching Demi.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Exactly. You know, it's like, yours is just endearing, though. it was sweet but yeah I don't know there's just like a whole love square and I don't even know where Tia fits in there or if Tia does fit in there Tia fit in somewhere more because I love her on my TV
Starting point is 00:35:30 yeah she's funny she's just got nothing right now so no feel bad it's always hard to see a veteran like a fan favorite come in and then not to make a splash just because they're not hooking up with somebody yeah and it's fun even seeing you know, Kendall, Becca, Tia, Demi,
Starting point is 00:35:49 like all the girls that, like, have hung out outside of the show and are really friends and been friends for a long time, like talk on the daybeds together. I don't know, it makes me feel good. I'm like, yeah. You guys are... Yeah, we're old school. Like, you represent OG, guys. You're still one of us. That's so funny. That's how... I mean, I get weirded out every time I see Becca doing Paradise.
Starting point is 00:36:11 I'm just like, this is... This is so weird to me because it's just the first time we've seen a lead go to Paradise. I was going to ask you guys how you feel about that. And actually, wait, let me ask this first. Because you've been on Paradise, you know that sometimes people talk before they go on Paradise. What is your thoughts on the whole strategy play between there's Piper and Brendan? And then who's the other Chris and.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Alana or Elena? Elena. Yeah. Like what do you think about the story? strategy of coming in? Do you think people should just, like, do you, are you kind of like, I get that? Or are you like, stay home and date? I'm so, it's, they're going to talk. It's just like we're living in a social media age. They're going to DM each other. They're going to talk. And it's also, like, I won't say any names, but we know people who have
Starting point is 00:37:07 talked on the show that have met, met in quotation marks in paradise. And, like, like sometimes just not it's never exploited or never talked about like I think more people talk before going on paradise than the audience knows about and it's just like sometimes it comes out sometimes it doesn't it depends if like yeah i've brenden and piper are obviously the worst in this situation because they actually tried to scheme something yeah christ and elena i think just it wasn't i don't think they schemed anything i think it was just more oh really maybe i may i don't know. I think they schemed a little bit. Oh, okay, never mind then.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Oh, yeah. I think so, but the Piper, and I just don't like that Natasha got so played through that whole thing because she had genuine feelings and he was literally just using the shit out of her until Piper got there and like totally made her believe
Starting point is 00:38:03 there was something there and then was like, bye as soon as she got there and I did not like that. And then to say something like you must have missed up, you must have selective hearing. that we had a friendship, not a romantic relationship. The things that he said about her, having prospects and everything,
Starting point is 00:38:19 like it was so beyond. It was rude. And it was like... The play as far as like, you know, them talking about their Us Weekly article and how many followers they got from it. Like, it was just like the craziest thing I've ever seen. It was totally different than say what Jared was saying,
Starting point is 00:38:37 I'm okay with people talking before the show. I'm okay with people, you know, DMing and texting a little bit. that even like hanging out once in a group setting, I think with these two couples, the problem was they had like made out. And I venture to say in Piper and Brendan's situation, they were like dating.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Yeah, like she was calling him boyfriend. That is where I have a problem. Like feeling out the waters and seeing like, you know, you have a favor going to paradise as one. We're living in a world where we're way too connected via social media for people just to not talk to each other before they go on paradise,
Starting point is 00:39:11 especially from back-to-back Bachelor and Bachelorette seasons. Like, it's just going to happen. But I think the Brennan Piper thing, you're right, Caitlin. It just, it sucks for Natasha. And I felt like Brendan played Natasha way more than Chris played Giacenia, even though both are wrong, but it was so weird how aggressive everybody got towards Chris and Elena for the right reason. Like, I get why you were so mad, but like, where was all?
Starting point is 00:39:41 all this all this you know intensity towards brandon and piper well okay first off they didn't ever hear the us weekly follower conversation these this cast i guess until this week when it aired right so that what that made the audience so angry i was crazy that was so crazy yeah that it was just like it was like some sort of marvel villains just like exposing their entire plan you know how like in every movie there's always that scene where the villain like for um for an unexplained reason just like talks about their whole diabolical plan is what they were doing on the day yeah i was wild to watch because it it also showed us that covering your microphone doesn't work and that's i think that shook jason because he was always like oh yeah if i said something i would
Starting point is 00:40:34 just do this to my mic and i was like no no that that doesn't ruin the sound quality Yeah, and I just thought that it was. It was very fascinating and disturbing to just listen to that conversation. I get so ticked out when people talk about followers. It like irks me in ways that I can't describe. Like, I understand it can be a business at this point and numbers mean something. But when you talk about it, like my followers went up like this. My favorite was what that they're following dropped after that episode. The Bachelor data has been absolutely. incredibly fun to watch. Yeah, the internet stays undefeated. I mean, Natasha goes, she gained close to 200,000 followers, and Brendan lost almost 100,000.
Starting point is 00:41:24 It's amazing. And, like, there's, see, I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about Instagram followers or making it a business. Like, all three of us kind of went on this show. We're like, I don't know what's going to happen,
Starting point is 00:41:36 but it would be cool. talk about it on camera, no, never talk about it on camera first, but also, like, if you're using someone to your advantage to try to gain followers, then, sorry, you lost me. Like, if you go on the show and you're like, yeah, I hope I find my husband. I also hope that I gain a lot of followers and it would be really cool because you're right. It can be used for business advantages. But if you're going there and manipulating someone to try to gain a following on the Instagram, that's gross. That's so true.
Starting point is 00:42:09 It's the manipulating it. And I totally understand like, I love having a platform. I want mine to grow because that is my business. And you can have a voice and charity working, raise money, and there's so many benefits to it. It just depends on how you're talking about it and how strategic you are and how, I don't know, it was just icky to me to watch. But, you're screwing other people over to get that. Right. And the screwing other people over to get that just, ugh.
Starting point is 00:42:35 And both couples, like, I feel like both couples. are more in love with the idea of being a bachelor couple rather than in love with the other person. Like with Chris and Elena, when Chris was like, do you want to leave with me? And she's like, Chris, I just got here. And it's like, oh, no, oh, no. She's going to stay in paradise over being with him.
Starting point is 00:42:56 And then when Piper and Brandon were talking, they were talking about the us weekly article and how exciting it was and cool it was. And I was like, do you guys actually really like each other? Or do you like the idea of being together? yeah that's that's some deep shit I don't like I don't know they can go that deep of like thinking that way because I think right now they just like being a bachelor couple I think it is that is what it is and I don't know the whole thing was just crazy and and then when people were like what Elena was like does anyone want to know what I think and everyone's like no I know that was funny I did feel bad I was like oh god because to be fair like She didn't seem to be doing any scheming, right? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Jared, yeah, they were definitely like... I don't know. However, she just seemed really spacey. Like, so spicy. Oh, God. Yeah, the whole situation, then Chris was like, the next few weeks is going to be really fun,
Starting point is 00:43:54 and it was like, no, it's not. It's not going to be fun for you. You don't know what's happening back at the house. Paradise, the island. What do you guys think about seeing Becca on the beaches of paradise? It is weird. It is weird. I'm not going to lie because you're just so used to her being. First of all, she is a cat. She's beautiful. She's a great personality. But it's different because as you know, being the Bachelorette, you were the only one that they're going for. So it's just like every interview is about how wonderful Becca is. And she's incredible. And now it's so weird seeing her on the other side and just kind of, you know, being in love triangles and like going after guys and seeing that they like. her and, uh, but I mean, hey, listen, that's the dating world, you know? I mean, if you're single,
Starting point is 00:44:41 even after being the bachelor or bachelor, like, you got to go back in and be like, okay, here's the dating pool. Like, what am I going to do? I got to start, I got to start hitting on people again. How do I do this? Her going on a date with Thomas blew my mind because I'm like, here's Becca, like, I don't know, who is the bachelorette who was engaged and out of like the game and now back in paradise going on a date with a villain from another season like it all just seems so bizarre to me I kind of wish they would have put her in week one
Starting point is 00:45:13 at least so that like we felt like she was a lead character yeah I wish she was there from week one too but I also give her a lot of credit because she was the bachelorette and a lot of people would have to swallow their pride going back into that and being like no I was the lead I'm not going to go back onto paradise and she's like no I'll go on not only will I go on, but I won't be there day one.
Starting point is 00:45:34 I'll go halfway in. Like, that's, I'll give her credit. I'll give her credit for doing that. Could you have ever done that? And did they ever suggest that you do? Yeah, they asked me to do Paradise after Sean and I broke up and I said, no, you could not. It's not that I look at down on paradise and go like, look at these freaking losers, rejects going on. No, I don't think that way at all.
Starting point is 00:45:56 It's not like I think I'm above everyone. It's just that I did not want to put myself back in a situation like that because, one, I don't know how Paradise really, like, I don't know. I've never been. I don't know how hard it is or easy it is or great. Like, I don't know, but I just, I also don't thrive in heat. I think I would have just looked like a drowned rat the whole time. And, like, I just wasn't feeling it.
Starting point is 00:46:17 And I wasn't ready. And I was like, no, I can't. And then they were like, would you be the Bachelorette again? And I was like, no, we can talk. Yeah, man. That'd been cool. Well, because you're with Jason and. what happened right 100% right but if jason wasn't involved i probably would have thought about even
Starting point is 00:46:37 though i don't i couldn't imagine going through that all again but at the same time i do think it's possible to find people out of it i did find somebody out of it it's you know like it was a three and a half year relationship and i feel like it can work if you find the right person oh and you have like just a great group of guys so yeah that would be you'd be comparing that group of guys to the other group of guys? No comparison, obviously. Oh, no. You can't duplicate perfection.
Starting point is 00:47:07 I say it all the time. I think, were people saying that Katie had a great group of guys? I feel like people were saying that. And I'm like, truly, truly, truly, no one will compare to my group of guys. I really don't think so. And I think a lot of people agree with that. A lot of people on the Internet agree with that. I know.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Yeah. Jared here. We're not denying it. We'll just be the guys that get the, uh, egg and cheese bacon on a biscuit at McDonald's with a hash brown and a nice vanilla coffee for you, for your pretty wife. Okay, I can't end the podcast without asking for a little confession from you both. But in the theme of becoming parents, maybe like an embarrassing childhood story,
Starting point is 00:47:52 or maybe something embarrassing that's happened between the two of you with becoming parents. I don't know. I mean, this, I don't know how explicit we want to get. I think it's not embarrassing. Well, what I was going to say is, you know, obviously when you're trying to make a child, it's certainly not as easy as one would make it sound, you know, when you have to consistently try and there's certain times and days. And I'll never forget, you know, Ashley would, well, Ashley would be, you know,
Starting point is 00:48:21 so we would, you know, be alone. And then you would. Or in your sister's house. Or my parents' house. but we were alone in the room that's really the main point of this story but you would stay on the bed because you're not supposed to get up for 30 minutes
Starting point is 00:48:36 yeah there's like you read all these books like this helps the you know sperm travel I don't really know but like she would just like have her legs in the air for like 20 minutes yeah you have to like prop your butt up just like okay well I'm gonna I'm gonna get out of here
Starting point is 00:48:52 you need anything while you're laying there she would just be like go get my phone I'm like, yeah, okay, I'll go get it. Makes the romance out of it a little bit. It's, like, funny, because, like, you'd have to do it, like, four days in a row. And, like, come the third day, Sarah would be like, oh. Well, the four, because, like, most of the time, you're, you know, it's like, you're the fourth day and you're like, you know, obviously we have schedules and lives. And so, like, it's, like, you know, 10 o'clock a night and you're like, we got to, like, don't forget.
Starting point is 00:49:23 And I'm like, oh, my, I am exa. I'm ready for bed. I was about to brush my teeth. I know. It's like a schedule that you've got to be. Yeah, schedules are never sexy, you know? No, schedules are not sexy. But that's, hey, what do you think you're going to do when the kid comes?
Starting point is 00:49:38 You've got to schedule in sex somewhere. Yeah. Yeah, definitely do the schedule thing. I know. Now that our lives have become more open, my mom felt the need to tell me where I was conceived. And I'm like, Mom! Wait, I know that you were conceived when the electricity went out.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Yes, that's what I meant. She told you? You or somebody told me. I only found this out recently. His mom. We don't need to go through the whole story. If electricity didn't go out, Jared wouldn't be here. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:50:04 That's crazy to think about. It's crazy. That is true. Lights didn't, you know, they could have just turned the lights off. No, your mom made it seem to my mom. Like, it just wasn't going to happen and it hadn't happened for a while. Oh, okay, great. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:50:19 Oh, and then the electricity went out and it got sexy up in there. I was conceived in Jasper, and my mom stood on her head for like 20 minutes after they had sex to make me. Very much, very much planned. Yes. So crazy. And one day you'll be telling your kids. Oh, yeah. Well, they're going to, I mean, all to do is listen back to this podcast.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Yep, I'm going to show them when they're older. I'm going to say, listen to this podcast. Hey, kid, it's Auntie K. Caitlin here. I got a story for you. Always going to be the crazy aunt. That's just going to be me for the rest of my life. Even if I have kids or don't, I feel like that was my title. I even said that in my like, I think I was 18. I was like, I think I always just want to be that crazy aunt. Like, that's just who I'm going to be my whole life. And I have been. So, you know what?
Starting point is 00:51:13 Buckle up, kids. Because Aunt Caitlin's coming in hot with pumpkin martinis and a biscuit. That's awesome. I'm so excited for you guys. You're so stinking. cute and thank you for coming on the pod today. Oh, thank you for having us. Always so much fun. And I'm so excited for this, Audrey's Coffee House and Lounge coming in October. Well, we will definitely be inviting you because, you know, we need the clout. Yeah, we need the publicity.
Starting point is 00:51:40 I'll get an Us Weekly article going and we can talk about it. No, I'm definitely going to come. I'm so excited for you guys. I think it's going to crush it. And especially Jared, with your like your background in. the restaurant is going to help that big time so yeah actually be the face of the franchise and i'll just be behind the scenes which i'm totally cool with no Jared is just like so friendly and like personable in those environments that's amazing that's that's amazing that'll that'll be what
Starting point is 00:52:09 makes it you know well thank you i need to come on this podcast more often i do i pump everybody's tires it's my thing i like doing it but thank you and good luck with everything and just keep me posted and we'll um talk soon i'm sure I'm Caitlin Bristow.
