As the three of them are sipping on Spade & Sparrows, Kaitlyn explains how she, like Victoria’s character, became a wine connoisseur in an industry full of dudes. And to wrap up the episode, KB’s go-to sommelier, Samantha Capaldi, pops in to teach us all how to look like wine experts. You're gonna wanna have a glass (or bottle) near you for this one! Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdad Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Polter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So whether it's your first time experiencing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times, you're going to fall absolutely in love all over again. So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen. This week's grape therapy is sponsored by Symbiotica. Starting point is 00:02:10 You know how I used to hate water? Yeah. I love it now. Thank God. I know. I love water too. You do? Are you a heavy water drinker?
Starting point is 00:02:18 Big water drinker. Yeah. I don't drink much else. Oh, I just mostly water. Yeah. No coffee? No, I'm not a coffee drink. Nuh.
Starting point is 00:02:26 No. Can't do it. Why? Does it make you just my thing? Gittery or you just don't like the taste or what all of the above? It makes me jittery and it just, I don't feel good when I drink it. Oh, so you might not like Adderall then. No.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I don't like any of it. Any sort of, yeah, no, not my thing. Oh, a nice 10 milligrams. No, I hate it. Kind of sets the mood. I'm okay with that. No, it makes me feel like I'm on like cocaine or something. Time release.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Yeah, I get five in the morning and then five in the afternoon. A little pep in my step. Yeah. I have friends that have ADHD and they like, I mean, they like swear by it. And I also have friends that don't have ADHD and they also swear that. Yeah. So that's true. I've been on 10 milligrams.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I mean, okay, full disclosure. I've been on it since I was like 15 years old. The same amount for that long. Well, then that's great if it works for you. Well, cheers. Thank you for having in today. Thanks, guys. Cheers.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Cheers. Here we go. I want to talk about your movie because it is called the perfect pairing. It is. Oh, I know. Beautiful segue. Thank you. It all just worked out so well.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Actually, okay, tell me, tell us about the movie. I want to hear all about it. Yeah. So it's a rom-com for Netflix. It's a little fish out-of-water story. In this case, I am the fish. I am a girl, I'm a woman from L.A., who is a wine executive. And she loves her job.
Starting point is 00:03:41 She's super passionate about it, but her boss sucks. So she decides, he's an old white male. You're not wrong. How did you know? Wow, very on point, yeah. And so she decides to strike out on her own, and she's going to take a risk. and fly to Australia and start her own business and try to land this this huge client on her own when she gets there you know this this client is uh taking like a sabbatical on a sheep farm
Starting point is 00:04:07 and so she decides it's like it's like a family thing just watch the movie i'm terrible like summarizing things don't one should ever let me summarize anything you don't even have to summarize i'm like walk me through the whole thing i want to hear that but so basically and then so then i i volunteer to be a ranch hand um to prove myself that i'm a hard worker to try to win her over. And then while I'm there, I meet Adam Demos, who plays the character of Max. And he's like the boss cocky of the sheep station. And we have a sort of tumultuous relationship. But then maybe there's a connection. Who knows? Romance is always tumultuous. He's rugged and Australia and all the things. And it's fun. There's wine. There's sheep. There's romance.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yeah. That sounds nice. It's a nice little escape. Yeah. Is this for summer coming out for when does this come out? It's already out. It's been out for a few weeks now. I want to watch it. We'll watch it. Tonight. Yeah. So watch it tonight. Oh, I hope you guys like it.
Starting point is 00:05:02 I just love a good romance, like feel good movie, and it involves wine. Yeah, so. Yeah, so I think you'll love it. Is there great music in it? The music actually is really good. Yeah. I love rom-com soundtracks. Yeah, it's super feel good.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And I actually get to do a cover. It's a very casual cover of, do you guys know the song Home by Edward Sharp in Magnetic Zero's? The one that's like, oh, home. Oh, yeah. Then we come home. Yeah. So there's this really, one of my favorite scenes is a little campfire scene where we kind of, you kind of first see the connection between Adam's character and I. It's just really fun because I've always loved, I've always loved that song. And you never know when they, you know, when the producer told me that they were going to add a scene where I was going to sing this song. I was like, oh, God, this could be like the cheesiest song ever. Like, what am I getting myself into it? But when they told me it was home, I was like, oh. Yeah. I love that song. That is a really good song. They got a good one. I feel like the real love story is probably between you and the sheep. there there is a love story between really sheep and I yeah
Starting point is 00:06:00 and in real life I love them do you save them like were they about to get slaughtered or something one of them oh shit yeah there it is oh and you save the sheep yeah her name's Barbara Barbara Streisand stop it I'm being serious there are lots of puns in this movie so if you like puns and wine and sheep I think you'll enjoy it's like this movie was met from me actually that's crazy puns wine and sheep
Starting point is 00:06:23 yeah stop selling you've already sold. Wow. That's amazing. Do you like working with animals? Because I feel like... Love it. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Making this movie was such a dream because not only was I in A, Australia, one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It was just incredibly gorgeous and the people are so nice and wonderful. But we filmed everything on location. So, you know, Adam and I would have to, like, pinch ourselves because we would show up to set and we were just in this, like, vast, lush, green valley with, like, hearing these birds, like, soaring over us. And it was just like... And you get to just make it all the... It was like a dream. Yeah. It was insane. Wait, were you in a resort, though? You weren't like camping vibes, right? No, not camping vibes. That Netflix hooked us up. I stayed, we were staying on the Gold Coast. I stayed on the beach. And then when we were filming, like, all the sheep farm stuff, they put me in, like, a little cabin closer to there. And it was so cool. I'd wake up in the morning and I'd see, like, cockatoos outside my door, like doing a whole feather thing. Yeah, like laughing cuckaburows and the other birds are caught. I mean, just the craziest wildlife. That sounds really nice. Yeah, like a rainforest was like less, like a, like a. less than a mile away. I would like go to work for the rainforest before I'd go to work. It was how long does it take to film a movie like that? Um, this one took, I think, six weeks. Which you probably enjoyed every moment of that. Like six weeks. It's like a vacation.
Starting point is 00:07:39 That is a nice, perfect amount of time. We're in Australia on the Gold Coast. Okay. In Queensland. So I, you know, it was obviously during the pandemic. So I had to fly to Sydney in quarantine there for two weeks. Yeah. I feel like Australia takes that serious. Oh, very serious. Yeah. Yeah. Especially then. Yeah, when did you film? This was in the pandemic, right? This was last, yeah, when was this? Last year, last June, July, August, maybe? Oh, yeah, we were deep in it.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Yeah. Oh, man. Okay. I was still spraying Clorox on my groceries and shit. Oh, yeah. Lysol. Do you still, no, not that, but like wear gloves at a gas station or something? Oh, I was wearing gloves at a gas station in 2007.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Like, I've been doing that. Really? Here's a thing. So you're like already like a germophobe. We'll see, with certain things. I'm a germopopopop. But I know that. that those gas station pump handles, they have four million times the amount of bacteria as a public toilet.
Starting point is 00:08:31 It has more bacteria. I mean, it's- What a statistic. I know. I looked it up just because people were like, why are you wearing a glove still? And you're like, because I don't want feces under my nails. They're literally covered in shit. Ew. Yeah, shit everywhere. They never, I mean, if you think about it, those gas pumps, they never actually like wipe them down. They've just been there for forever. That's more. I'm going to bring a little wipe, no. I think else to put on gloves. That's gloves a wipe yeah this is why i think i have a good immune system because i'm not a germop and i just let germs just yeah that's also good too you got to like tough and you know you're like i can handle my gas and then bite my nails yeah you've had literal shit all over your hands yeah yeah human shit
Starting point is 00:09:11 and someone she didn't even know yeah that's remember that oh that oh no that was traumatic that was traumatic oh wait what okay a little bit of a germophobe that night and i get it I I was so upset. What happened that night? We were walking the dogs. She has these two mountain lions. They're ginormous dogs. Golden retrievers and they're not that big.
Starting point is 00:09:34 For the apartment that we were living in. Yes, that's true. They were quite large for the apartment. Oh, so you guys were roommates. Well, anytime I'm here, we basically make ourselves roommates. But I was here for dancing with the stars and he basically was staying with us the whole time and I wouldn't let him leave. Yeah. Because once you're in, it was like, I don't want to get her sick.
Starting point is 00:09:51 It was also a bubble, yeah. Oh, right. So she was like, well, you might have. will just stay and we'll see how far I get. And we had an extra room. She ended up winning, so I stayed the whole time. Oh my gosh. You won?
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah. That's incredible. I was really incredible. Congratulations. That's so cool. Thank you. That's always just my way. I'm like, anytime you bring up anything, I'm like, yes, we get to talk about me winning.
Starting point is 00:10:12 On one of those nights, though, before you won, we took the dogs for a walk and, uh, and I was in a, I was in a bad place during dancing starts. Like, mentally I was not. Sounds stressful. Wow. I'm more stable than I. putting out there, right? Just let me say that. But I was walking home. We were walking the dogs and we were in a little bit of a sketchy area. Hollywood, Hollywood Boulevard. Yeah, that'll do it. Yeah. After sundown, it's super sketchy. And one of my dogs, Pino, of course. I love this.
Starting point is 00:10:41 I love this is perfect. I know. And he, well, this isn't. He went and ate human shit that was on Oh, God. Human shit. It was definitely human shit. And he went to eat it and I didn't know what he eight so I just reached my hand in and ripped it out and I was like and then I looked at what and I just looked at low and I went get me the home right now I need to go and I'm just holding my hand out gagging
Starting point is 00:11:04 it's covered in poop and it was that's a real low it was a real low point for me oh god yeah I almost blacked out from laughing so hard I probably would have to say I still can't like really laugh about it because we should have to do the walk of shame home
Starting point is 00:11:22 because we were, you know, we were about like five blocks away. And so, anyway, walking through and it just reeked. And it was, it was a lot. I don't know why, but every single. And you can try to shake it off. Oh, my God. Okay. Every single podcast I do, I somehow turn the conversation into poop talk.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Sorry. No, it's not you. It's me. It's a good icebreaker. Yeah. Mental health and poop right away. Yeah. I just got to dive into that.
Starting point is 00:11:48 The two best. All righty, Roo, this week's grape therapy is brought to you by Star bucks buy an energy drink. It's a nice little refreshing beverage that is honestly shape it up to be one of my staples this summer. It just gives you that much needed boost of energy as you go about your day. And it's a beverage that is crafted from caffeine naturally found in coffee fruit and also has antioxidant vitamin C. And it comes in three fruity flavors, all of which sound delish, mango guava, raspberry lime, and pineapple passion fruit, which is my pick so far, since nobody asked. And each 12 ounce, 90 calorie can contains 160 milligrams of caffeine. So it truly does give you
Starting point is 00:12:27 that energy you need. But the best part is it doesn't make you feel all that weird jitteriness like other energy drinks have in the past. It just feels like the right amount. So I feel like I'm always on the go. This is a really great solution. It's from Starbucks. We all know and love them. But it's in a can so I can just throw it in my bag or have a bunch of my fridge ready to go. It's the perfect drink to have on hand. If you're taking your pups on a walk, if you're in the office, going to work in the park with friends, honestly, between meetings. It's been a really nice go-to to get that energy up during the day. Plus, it tastes great too. So you guys have to try it out. Starbucks buy an energy drink. It's available online at grocery stores, convenience stores,

Starting point is 00:15:27 Let's get back to the little sheet Well, okay Your name was Lola in the movie, right? Yes. my baby name list. I love the name Lola. Weren't you Lola in Zoe 101? I was. Yes. And I read this script and I was
Starting point is 00:15:40 like, maybe they should change this. But then I was like, you know what? Enough time has passed. I feel like it doesn't really matter. I'm done to play Lola again. But it's actually funny because the other movie I did for Netflix called Afterlife of the Party with the same producer. In the original draft of Afterlife, my character's name was Tori, which is the same character
Starting point is 00:15:56 from my other Nickelodeon show that I was on Victoria. So I was like, there's this like a weird parallel happening here. It was very bizarre. That is meant to be then. Yeah. I feel like when stuff like that happens, it means your life's on track. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I kind of feel that way too. Yeah. So it was a nice little reminder. I like that in this movie. You're like a boss-ass business woman who works her ass off to start her own wine business. Sounds familiar. Wow. What a transition into my wine.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Is this your wine right here? It is. Of course it is. Yes. I love it. Yeah. Do you like it? Spade and Spare.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I love the name. Yeah, I do too. Thanks. It's really cute. Thank you. I've got a rosé, a pino grigio, pinot noir, and a cab. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:41 What is it? Are you a wine connoisseur? I'm not a wine connoisseur. But you enjoy it. But I enjoy wine. I love like a good cab. Okay. I'll send you home with a...
Starting point is 00:16:49 Do we have cab here? We're checking right now. If we do, I'll send you home with a bottle because I love my cab. Does it make you sleepy? A little bit. Which is probably the good thing about it. But sometimes it's nice. Yeah, to unwind.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Because when I drink a cab. It's like, all right, I'm in for the night. Yeah, totally. Well, it depends on the cab. No, we don't have cab. Okay, just kidding. I'll send you some. I'll send you some still.
Starting point is 00:17:10 But, yeah, I feel like something that was important to me when making the wine was making it approachable because, like, I didn't want, like, a heavy, heavy cab that, like you pair with a steak. I was like, I just want everybody to look at the label and go, this is chic, like you just did. Right. And that everybody will like it. Like, if you like sweet wine, you're going to like the rosé. If you like dry wine, you're still going to like the rosé. It's just like approachable. I like that word.
Starting point is 00:17:34 It's approachable. It's approachable. I love it. I feel like you're going to like this movie then. You're very similar to my character. No, I know. This is me. Did you know that there was like a, like wine has always been marketed to men.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Always. I would have thought the opposite. No. And there was like a slogan in the wine industry that said, market to men and women will follow. Ew. Oh, my God. How terrible is that? That's so pretty terrible.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Yeah. I didn't really think men were big wine drinkers. I guess they are. I always, well, I'm thinking like super much, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, beer, beer, beer. Beer. Yeah, maybe they like wine, too. No, like, like, like, I feel like businessmen, like, you know, and they go out for dinners and I don't know. I'm making assumptions right now, but now it's a woman's game.
Starting point is 00:18:21 But now it's a woman's thing. And I feel like market to women and drink, men will drink whatever the women have. 100%. Honestly, that makes so much more sense to me. Doesn't it? Yeah. I think so, too. And in the movie, you really had to prove yourself, which, again, I can relate to because women have to prove themselves in a lot of industries, but the wine industry especially. Did you, did you like feel empowered being that character? Yeah, absolutely. I loved playing my character. She's, she's a boss bitch. She is. And I love playing like strong, empowered female characters. I think it's important for women to see. And I love the fact that she's, she's super. She's, she's super. She's really ambitious.
Starting point is 00:19:02 She's really driven. She's super passionate about what she does. And, you know, she's not afraid to, like, fight for what she wants and speak her mind. And these are all quality. She's got, like, a lot of moxie. Yeah. You know, she inspired me in a lot of ways, too. I was like, yeah, I could use a little bit of a little bit more a Lola.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Yeah. Lola and my life. Yeah. Yeah. She's a goat guy. I like that. She believes in herself. That's the key, right?
Starting point is 00:19:22 How old is Lola? She's, I think she's like my age, like 20. I think it was like 28 at the time. Oh. Wait, how old are you? 29. My 29? Oh, that's a great year.
Starting point is 00:19:34 30s are the best. When's your birthday? February 19th, which makes her what? Air, no. Mama Pisces. Picey's. I'm right on the cusp. Yeah, I'm right on the cussie's.
Starting point is 00:19:43 My mom's a Pisces too. Really? Does Justin, you have a song where he says, I'm a Picey's? Yes. Is it new? Yes. Oh, really? It's so weird.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Maybe it's. I don't know that song. I'm a pride. So I will definitely check. What does it Pice's mean? Pysys are the best. You think so? Oh, they are.
Starting point is 00:19:58 depth so soulful, very inquisitive. I just, yeah, my mom's a Pisces. My mom's a Pisces too. My grandma's a Pisces. My mom actually, I was a C-section baby and she told the doctor to wait to deliver me so that I would be born after midnight and I was born at 1203. Stop it. I'm being serious. No way. Yeah. Oh, that's so. Yeah. So I just made. Wait, does she want you to be born at 1203 so you would be a Pisces? So that I would be a Pisces. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Okay, listen. I'm a cancer. So fellow water size. Oh, yes, I love cancers. Please just hate me. What's your sign? I'm a Pisces. It's Bieber.
Starting point is 00:20:36 Please don't spike me. Please don't fight me. Is this a joke? Yeah. Yes, it is a joke. Okay. It's a joke, Caitlin. Because he...
Starting point is 00:20:45 What the hell is that? He said he was feeling funny one day and he did a TikTok and it was like, what's your sign? Oh. Okay. So you and Justin Bieber are Pisces. That's another thing I was bringing up. Oh, he's a Pisces too. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Maybe I'm just. Or maybe he's, I think I'm making shit up now. Justin Bieber birthday. Yeah. Birthday. Um, he is March 1st. So yeah, he is a Pisces. Oh, there I go.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Okay. See? I love it. Pisces, I missed the last thing you said. Um, what is her qualities? Oh, very emotionally intelligent. Very, a lot of depth and, uh, deep thinkers and very inquisitive. That's just what, from what I know, like they always will question everything.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Oh. In the best way possible. I definitely feel, I feel like I relate to all those things. We're also known to be like, we're very emotional or like, you know, emotional waterside. Oh, so sensitive too. Very sensitive, um, dreamy, kind of known to be like creatively, like musically inclined, which is I'm super passionate about music and like also indecisive, which I'm not sure about, but I'm like, maybe I'm a Piscese.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I feel like we can all relate to like, do, you know, that's true. Have you done the whole like birth chart with the time? you were born. A friend of mine has done it for me, but I can never remember. I always forget. Yeah, because I know there's a whole thing, like, what's your actual sign? And then what's your son and moon sign, right? Yeah. Right. I don't know what mine is.
Starting point is 00:22:10 I think I'm a Scorpio Rising or something. I don't know. I know everything about mine. I'm a Cancer. I'm a Gemini, but I'm a Cancer with my son and Moon and Rising, so I'm very emotional. Oh, my sister's a Gemini. Really? Yeah. Whenever has a fun. Yeah. Gemite gets a bad rap. Do you know what? I know. I think they're great.
Starting point is 00:22:25 They're great. Yeah. Spicy. I definitely have two different sides to me. I am like, my heart is so pure and I want the best for everybody and I love it. But I also will cut a bitch. There she is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:38 And I will like turn on a dime and be like, see? That is very Gemini. But I'm also, I can be very nasty too. But only to the people I love. Yeah. Like I can really take things out on them. Yeah. But I think that's like most people, though.
Starting point is 00:22:53 We always take things out most of the people we love. I'm a dick to my mom. Oh. Oh, it's like, what? Yeah, it's wrong with you, Lowe. Yeah. Oh, like, I mean, I don't do it as much now, but like growing up, oh, I was teenage years, even early 20s. Oh, I was a dick at times. So is I. But at least my mom, you know, Latina, she would be like, you're the literal worse. I can't stand you. Yeah. You know, so I had to correct myself. Check myself. Kids just don't, like, teenagers just don't know any better. They don't. Lowe, I don't know if you prep for today. Lowe really likes to be prepared and know what he's doing. And when he's with me, he knows. I'm a planner. Yeah. I love to plan.
Starting point is 00:23:30 My schedule's been set up until August. That's so good. But then I have, well, I have this little wild card over here. I am not a planner. Not at all. At all. And he knows to just surrender to my chaos. I do a trust fall.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Yeah. Yeah. A little trust fall. Yeah. I said, what are you doing tomorrow? And she's like, let's hang out. She ends very vague. Let's hang out.
Starting point is 00:23:51 I want to see you. I said, okay, I want to see you too, Queen. And I said, what time should I be at your hotel? So I'm thinking shopping. Maybe we'll get facials. So I pick her up. Okay, we'll do that. But I picked her up at 11.
Starting point is 00:24:03 And I said, so what are we doing today? She's like, podcasting. Victoria Justice comes in. And I was, oh, okay, here we go. Let's do it. And so, yeah, I'm here now. And I love it. And I love it.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Did you have time? Do you feel unprepared? A bit. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I'm completely. unprepared. I knew I was going to podcast about four minutes ago. Yeah, and usually I prep everybody to have
Starting point is 00:24:25 a confession when they come on my podcast. Oh, my God. Oh, right. And Lowe has had the most, and I don't know why the word epic is like the word moist to me. I hate the word epic. I hate it. I don't know. I don't mind it. I don't like, it's epic, bro. Legendary. Legendary is great. I said epic sometimes. That's okay. It's just
Starting point is 00:24:41 my own. It's a me problem. Don't get me out. No, no, no. That's a me problem. It's a weird, weird thing I have. Like, I like the word moist and I hate the word. I don't mind the word moist. Yeah. I don't mind it. It makes me think of cake. Yeah. Yeah. Cupcake. I just, my mouth watered because I would like a cupcake. But I was going to say you've had the most iconic confessions. I had a lot of low points in my life. So that's what I share on this little shit show. True. Incredible ones. Like, it's, it's very brave. Thank you for your bravery. I also have to say, though, thank you for saying it's brave. And I, it's very brave. I get that now. But when
Starting point is 00:25:19 I first started podcasting with her now. I've done so many episodes with you. I love coming to Off the Vine. But I thought, I didn't realize how big off the vine was. So I was like, when she said, let's podcast. I'm like, sure, like your cute little podcast. Yeah. With your, with your sister, listening, you know. And then I started getting like hundreds of DMs from people. And I was like, oh, oh, people are listening. And now, yeah, I mean, I'm still confessing, but it's a bit difficult for me now. I'm not as brave. You've really shared your darkest moments. I'm overshared because I thought it was just Caitlin and a couple family members listening. But not that I know. But that's what makes the best confessions is the oversharing ones. Sure. Which I do on a daily basis. So do you have a confession for us? Anything that you're like, I need to get this off my chest. It doesn't even have to be, it doesn't have to be something embarrassing. It doesn't have to be like, I poop my pants. It doesn't have to. Why? A lot of them, yeah, a lot of them do. But it can be anything that you're like, wow, that was humiliating.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Or like, I killed a man once. Oh, my God. Anything from that to that, you know. Can you imagine hit and run. Hit and run. Oh, shit, Victoria. Damn. You guys are hitting me with a heart of ones.
Starting point is 00:26:44 No. I don't either. I don't. I'm trying to think. something to confess. I feel like I've just laid it all out here. I can't believe I'm still invited back at this point. No, that's why you're invited. I actually want to sing confessions by Usher. Does that song not come up to your head? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow, that was really pitchy. Oh, yeah, you know the words. So good. I'm going to see. I sometimes I write down
Starting point is 00:27:08 in my notes. A confession? Yeah, and sometimes I don't remember I do it. And then I look back. I go, oh, that did happen. Does anyone ever confess to me like, I don't like babies or something? Yeah, someone has done that before. Really? Because you could take it a few different ways. Like, I want to share something that I've never told anybody. Yeah. One of my friends actually came out on the podcast talking about his bipolar disorder and that he'd never. Wow. That's a big one. Yeah. And he like shared that and it was like a moment and it was really empowering almost. Like I was like, yeah. We had a lot of people reach out and thank him for that obviously. And it was like a moment. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:45 I have a confession. Okay. I'd like to just share this on the air now. It's my first time publicly saying this, but I am ready to just... You're gay. Okay. Caitlin, come on. You took my outing story. That was it. That was it.
Starting point is 00:28:01 That was it. Freaking gay, Caitlin. You're the worst. I'm gay. I'm here. I'm queer. Happy pride. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Yeah. Here we go. Wait. I love it. I'm going to need to sit down for this one. Wait. What? Didn't see that one coming.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah, did not see that one coming. I know. I've just been hitting on me all these years. Oh, my God. This whole time. I thought I had a chance. All this sexual tension. You know what I did do one time?
Starting point is 00:28:28 What? I was talking to someone and they were, they were sending me, like, a journal entry or something. And they sent me, like, a picture of it via, like, Instagram photo. And I'm so nosy that I screenshot it because I wanted to zoom in and read the words. Totally. And then they were like, you motherbook, like, you really just screenshot that I was mortified. Oh, so. So it showed them you took a screenshot.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Yes, I was so mortified. I literally, like, through, I was like, I can't even look at my phone. I was panicking. I called on my friends. I was like, oh, what do I do? Wait, it's terrible. Wait, I missed the first part. What was this on?
Starting point is 00:29:00 I need to know, so I don't make this. On Instagram. They can see if you take a screenshot. It notifies you. So if she sends me a picture, a private picture, like a DM, and then I open it and I screenshot it will say, Victoria Lowe just took a screenshot of your photo. Yeah. And it's like the worst thing to screenshot.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Wait, I've done that. personal diary entry that's like far away and I'm such a loser that I wanted to zoom in and try to close it up with this person that you could absolutely not shoot that's a good one that's a good that's a great one yeah wait I would have done the same thing I'm mortified so embarrassed but then we were joking around about it ended up being fine but oh god I am a little panicky it's only sending photos oh okay okay now I feel better it all stresses me out now I just don't screenshot anything like that like yeah if you're going to do that just screen record oh
Starting point is 00:29:49 loophole she found a loophole she screen records and then screenshots the screen record and then zooms in oh I love was there anything juicy in a diary no I was hoping that there was going to like be something about me in there there was it
Starting point is 00:30:04 dear diary I have a crush on Victoria Justice okay bye well that's a pretty good confession I'm actually very happy with that one okay Okay, so last week I had Nick Vial on the podcast, and we were talking about one of Vizzi's drops from Mercury in retrograde. And I'm serious, this company just always has the best vibes,
Starting point is 00:30:24 no matter what they're putting out there. I just want it all. And this summer is no different. Vizzi is going to bring the good vibes. I mean, summer is always a good vibe, but Vizzi just makes it that much better. Is there anything better when it's warm out than grabbing a nice, cold, hard seltzer? The answer is no, I do not think so. So Vizzy Hard Seltzer is always passing the vibe check with its bold and delicious fruit flavors and they have you covered this summer with flavors like pineapple mango, strawberry kiwi, and black cherry lime, just to name a few. They also have even more variety with their lemonade hard seltzer and their mimosa hard seltzer.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Why does my mouth water when I read these? Each variety pack offers four delicious and refreshing flavors so you can find what you love the most. And for me, it's probably that mimosa hard seltzer or strawberry kiwi seltzer. Here's how to get yours. To find Vizzi near you, go to Vizeehardselter.com slash find. That's busyhardselter.com slash vine. And for updates on the latest flavor drops and more, sign up at busyhardselter.com
Starting point is 00:31:21 slash subscribe and must be 21 years or older. And usually at the end of my podcast, I will play a game with my guest, but I thought we'd do something fun today and bring on my go-to Somalia into the podcast via Zoom. And yes, her name is Samantha. She is the most badass Somalié because she's mine. She's Canadian. She's not. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:53 But she does pairings with like, okay, I'm going to pair a rosé with a French fry and talks about why. And like, oh, that's cool. Yeah. And she is not, my whole wine and everything I love about it is that it's not pretentious, it's not snobby. Yeah. It's lighthearted. You're just supposed to enjoy it. I'm not going to tell you to like pick out the notes and pair it with, you know, something.
Starting point is 00:32:13 It's like... Yeah, yeah. It's not snobby. It's not snobby. Some wine can be that way. So she's going to do a quick tasting of the wine that we're currently drinking and give us a little wine 101. I was going to be like wine, Zoe 101. That was stupid.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Okay. So Sam, let's bring her in. She also created her own small-A business and now has her own wine fath. Oh, wow. Oh, she's so cute. Hi. She's the cutest. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:32:37 I'm so excited. You are so, I like this little office area you have. You don't want to see the other half of it. This is my bedroom, and it's a nightmare. But this is a little sanctuary. This is your little work corner. I can pretend that I have my shit together. She's greenery.
Starting point is 00:32:53 All you need is that one corner. Oh, my gosh. That's perfect. Okay, let's top up our rosés. Do you have the rosé with you, Sam? I do. I mean, I've been listening to you guys this entire time cracking up. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:33:03 My wine. Oh, good. Thank you. Victoria, you have the same birthday as my mom. What? Really? Oh, my God. She's a Piscese.
Starting point is 00:33:12 Yes. So much Pisces energy. There's a lot of Pisces energy. I love it. What are you, Sam? I'm a tourist. So my birthday is 420, so I'm on the cuss of like air is aries and tourists. So I'm a good balance between the two.
Starting point is 00:33:27 I'm super emotional. So I don't know if that's Aries or Taurus, but I'm learning that that's every. Most signs. Most, yeah. Mine is what, Virgo? That's what you are? No. Oh, I'm a cancer.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Anyways, let's talk about the wine. Okay, let's talk about the wine, shall we? Do your thing, chicken weighing. Yeah. So kind of going off of what came you to say, just wine is alcohol. We don't need to overthink it. Anyone who makes you feel bad about wine or intimidated has a weird ego complex, you know? It's not worth it. 100%. I just like to break everything down in a really easy approachable way, which is why I love working with Caitlin and Speed and Sparrow. But we're drinking the most porch poundable rosé
Starting point is 00:34:08 there ever was. I love using that term. couch wine just a wine that's easy drinking like you guys are just chilling drinking this wine
Starting point is 00:34:17 doing the podcast you don't need to overthink it's just light fruity goes down a little bit too easy
Starting point is 00:34:23 but when we look at wine we just do a couple of things if we want to know what we're doing when we're at a winery just so you guys know Victoria you probably
Starting point is 00:34:31 learned this from your movie because you were a song in your movie which I love and you know you give it a little swirl right
Starting point is 00:34:38 to just look like you know what you're doing yeah So, wait, I actually had to point this out and ask a question. I thought you only swirled red. Oh, that's, that's like something I've heard before, if you like. Okay. You probably thought that because red wine is just so much like bigger body, right?
Starting point is 00:34:54 Like richer, fully body more layers to it. Yeah. But you could swirl any wine and get something out of it. The one wine that I don't like when people swirl is sparkling line. Oh, yeah. Because then it gets rid of the bubbles. Yeah. Just drink your wine.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Like, you don't need to get, you don't need to swirl it. But anytime you swirl it, you're just releasing oxygen, aromas, and our noses are gateway to our palate. If we can't really smell, we can't taste. So I always just like to see if people could smell something on the wine. I don't care if it's something really wine forward, like a fruit term, or if you're getting like a wet baby's diaper. Like somebody, wait, I think it was it you, Brett, that was telling me about the garden hose. Yeah, somebody said once that they. Rubber hose.
Starting point is 00:35:37 Yeah, but freshly cut. freshly cut rubber hell now. I smell watermelon. Watermelon love that. Yeah, it's super like summery. You get like the cherries, strawberries, maybe a little bit of the melon, watermelon. Love that. I would say I hate using the term fruit driven because it just sounds so obnoxious. But this is a very fruit driven rosé without being sweet. So it's just not going to offend anyone. Everyone always just thinks pink wine is going to equal sweet. I grew up in college drinking franzia. week wine, like going to the fridge on a Monday night thinking I was so classy. That's sweet. This is not. This is fruity, but dry. And I think that's very crowd pleasing. So when you take a sip, I want you guys to take a nice big sip, swirl it around your mouth, switch it, kind of like mouthwash. People make those really weird sounds. I don't do that, but they're just doing to aerate that to bring out again oxygen. But you might feel your mouth like salivating. Do you guys feel like your mouth is like watering a little bit like you're salivating I feel like it's tingling like it's a little
Starting point is 00:36:41 spicy like there's like a little spicy too I do feel that a little kick yeah so that's like acidity so that's where food parries come in when you're like salivating craving something to eat and kately was talking about I love a good fried food pairing rosé is really good with like salty foods so potato chips I have a whole potato chip and wine pairing guide so I think oh I love that onion chips salt and vinegar chips um yeah like this sounds kind of weird but salty like seafood sushi pokey bowls yeah spicy tuna rolls you know and because this wine is so fruity it could really balance a spicy dish out so i always tell people like if you like a little kick you like your saracha have it with this wine it's going to be such a nice go-to berry now i want spicy it's really
Starting point is 00:37:26 good sounds good and it's very helpful that this is low alcohol so we could drink like a whole bottle and not be completely shit-faced. I love that. I love that. I'm not doing today. As you get older, you don't want super high alcoholic wines because you can drink more wine than just a glass,
Starting point is 00:37:43 right? Yeah. You want to be able to enjoy it, go through all your wine with your friends, and not be hit in the ground before you're on bottle number two. So that low alcohol. Definitely. I think this one's like 13, maybe a little bit less, but anything under 13% for you. I was going to say, that was 12.5.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Is that considered less? for a wine. Yeah. Yeah. What are most of those? 14, 13, 14. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:06 So I think like the cab, Caitlin is like 14 and the pinos like I love that the pinos under 14. Your pino noir is under 14. I love that. So I don't feel as guilty just drinking the bottle. Pretty sure. Victoria, I was watching the perfect pairing and drinking like a bottle and a half of Spade and Sparrow.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Yes. Netflix and Wine parries. Add to me drinking wine while you're watching. Did it make you like the movie more? You're like. Did you love the movie? I loved it because that was the first, in my experience, seeing a movie of a young, like 29-year-old, I'm 29, um, Saumlee-A starting her own business.
Starting point is 00:38:43 I started my, uh, YMT's new business when I was 22. I was like one of the only Somelier's in Scottsdale. So it took a while to be taken seriously. So I just love that it kind of showed the challenges in that. Yeah. Yeah. Your ass off and you're, you know your shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:59 It's possible. So I thought that was. really cool. I really, really loved. Oh, I'm so happy to hear that coming from a song like yourself. Like, that's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, it was great. So definitely aligned with me. But whenever I drink and taste wine, I always just tell people, you smell, you taste what you want to taste. You know, if someone's going to make you feel like you're wrong, that's silly. Like, I can't tell you you don't taste something in the wine. All I could do is kind of guide you to maybe what a rosé should have, right? like rosé qualities are very
Starting point is 00:39:32 red fruit driven, strawberries, watermelon cherries. They're very floral. I always tell people, if you want a fancy wine term, say white blossom. And they'll be like, oh, yeah, good palate. Good nose. This one has more of a cherry blossom now. Yeah, this is rosé.
Starting point is 00:39:46 More of a cherry blossom. Wow, look at you. What a connoisseur. For real. He knows it's shit. But that's the thing. You can sound like you do. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Thank you. Forgive me. Yeah, anyone could sound like they know about wine. What is, like, your number one tip to people if they're going, if they're intimidated by wine, what's your number one tip for them? I would say, don't be afraid to ask questions. I think when you're at a wine shop or just a restaurant ordering a glass of wine, you just want to go with your safety net. Sobanc, you know, Cabernet. You don't want to explore other things because you're intimidated.
Starting point is 00:40:24 But I believe most people in the industry are excited to share their knowledge, right? it's like what they're passionate about. So be like, hey, like, Sam, can I try this Mendoza Malbec on the menu? Could have a taste of this sansaire? I've never had it before. Can you talk to me about it? So just being a little bit more vocal, which I know is hard. It's a little scary to ask questions, get out of your comfort zone.
Starting point is 00:40:48 But that's why I love what I do is it's a safe space to talk about wine and answer, you know, the smallest of questions to the largest. But asking questions and not being afraid to branch out from your norm. I always say order a wine on the list, not because of the price point. Sometimes the cheapest wine can be one of the best ones. It's so true. Yeah, that is true. So true.
Starting point is 00:41:08 Yeah, I've done so many blind tastings where I will, I'm not even embarrassed by this. I gave a barefoot wine, a gold medal. No way. No way. And I rated this like $400 bottle really poorly. So just a good opener that's experts, you know, like cheap wines. It does not matter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:29 it's all like subjective yeah that's so good to know that's funny barefoot hopefully that makes everyone feel better if you like cheap wine don't be ashamed of it it saves your wallet oh yeah again be open-minded to new wines and if you end up liking a price of your wine cool but there's so many wines out there and so many price points it's better to just shop affordable and then buy a fancy bottle when you want i have a question one of my one of like i don't i'm not like a wine kind of sort by any means but one of my favorite bottles of wine it's like a little bit priceier, but it's called Bell gloss. Oh, yeah. Clark and Telephone with the red wax. Yes. Yes. Yes. It's so good. I love that. The Pinot No, it's so good. I hate opening it, but I love drinking it. Yeah. Oh my gosh. You just want to go right through the wax. Don't let it scare you. Just go deep. Really? Is that, yeah. That's like a $100 bottle. No. No, I think it's like $50. 50, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's a California Pinot Noir, but they make it in a very French style. So French Pinot Noir is burgundy, red burgundy's and those can be really pricey to you burgundy's and bordeaux. So it's a really good
Starting point is 00:42:33 example and that kind of shows you like European wine. So my advice to you is don't be afraid to explore more French reds, more Italian, more Spanish wine. European wine can actually be priced really fairly. So especially at grocery stores, wine shops, they really do have good price point. So yeah, that's an amazing. That is actually one of my favorite pinos as well. It is a good one. It's like a, it's not super light either. A lot of pinos are light and that one's like heavier penise. Yeah, it has a little bit more like tannins, Caitlin, then spade and sparras. A little bit more like lingering. It's, it's good with food too, you know? Like, it's, like, people might think it's a little too dry for them if they're not used to like a little bit of tannins, that lingering gritty sensation. Um, but it's so amazing if you're going to have like a meat, savory dish, even just like smoky cheeses would be good with that. I really just like Doritos or cheeses with Tino noir. I'm not going to lie. I wish I had to. Yes. But I just think about what's in my fridge. My cabinets in my fridge and it's like cheese sticks and cheese. It's a goldfish. Where can people find your like pairing list and find you? Yeah. So I mean, I post all my resources on my Instagram, Samantha Sommli. A. And my website, Samantha Sommli.com. And I'm popping up on Spade and Sparrow's account. You'll see me there too.
Starting point is 00:43:53 You're like the chillest Somme ever. Yeah. I love it. It's so. cool she is yeah i'm my friends like still don't understand how i'm a song and i own my own business they like you're just sam you're just such a goof that's why yeah it shows you could be both that's why you are successful as well you're passionate and you're knowledgeable and you're relatable and that's perfect combo yeah that's the perfect combo well thanks sam for doing that and you have your own line too that people can check out oh cool what's it called it's called faf faf which It's like a British term for like fuss.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Like don't make a fath about it. Oh, cute. Yeah. The lines with my brand and Spina Spira's and Caitlin, keeping wine, fun, approachable. It's a sparkling brew, rosé, super crushable, easy drinking. I mean, I'm not going to say that it is better than your rosé because you're just amazing. But I think they can be best friends.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Yeah, they can be best friends. Yeah. There's room for everybody at the rosé table. Yeah. Yes. And we all love pink wine these days. So more the merrier. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Yep. Faf wine. And you could find that on my website too. Awesome. Thanks so much, Sam. We love you. Thank you. This was so fun.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Cheers you back. So nice to meet you. Cheers. Thanks for watching the movie. Cheers. Oh, my gosh. Of course. I've already watched you three times.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Oh, thank you. I love it. All right. Bye, bye, Sam. Bye. That's amazing. So cool.
Starting point is 00:45:23 Oh, she's so sweet. She is. She's the best. We freaking love her. And I feel like, honored that she's our like go-to-some. But thank you so much for being here today and doing the pod. Thanks for having me.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Of course. Any time, any time you just come by. I'm not here very often, but when I am, come hang. I would love to. You guys are so fun.
Starting point is 00:45:41 This is so easy. I'm a lot better when I'm with my better half. Aw. That's sweet. Look at you. Do you guys do like most of them together? Whenever I'm here, I'm like, please come podcast with me.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Oh. I just love it. She's the, I say like the godmother of podcast. She's the female Joe Rogan vibes over here. Have you been doing it for that long? Five years. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:04 And so she, after doing her show, she's like, it's time for you to have your own show. So now I have my own. Oh, no way. Because of her. And so, yeah, really, though, it is. Well, you need it one. Yeah. So now the low life podcast.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Yeah. That's awesome. And so, yeah. So now anytime she comes on mine, I come on hers. Yeah. It's fun. That's so cool. It is.
Starting point is 00:46:25 It's really fun. And obviously. Obviously, everyone can watch your movie on Netflix. Yes. Yes. And where can everybody find you? They can find me. I'm at Victoria Justice on Instagram and Twitter and all the places.
Starting point is 00:46:39 I am on the TikTok. You're on the TikTok. Do you like it? Are you a fan? You know what? I am a fan. At first, I was sort of like, oh, my Lord, another social media platform that we have to keep up with. This is exhausting.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Yeah. But I actually think it's really fun. I love it. I think it's really cool. I feel like you can be creative. And I like that. It's like, it kind of just curates whatever. It just feels way less, I don't know how to describe it.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Like on Instagram, I feel like, I'm like, why are you showing me this? We're on TikTok. I'm like, I get why you're showing me this. Yeah. And it's just more fun and like more casual. And you like, Mar-Anjol. Yeah, that was beautiful. That was groundbreaking.
Starting point is 00:47:18 It's true, though. I get what you're saying. Like, all of my stuff, it's all like cooking videos and stuff on TikTok. And I'm like, oh, there's some great recipes. Yeah. There's great stuff. You can learn a lot. Yeah. It's so fun.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Yeah. There's literally something for everyone. But it is very fun. Okay. Well, I'm excited to go look at your TikTok. Yeah. I'm Caitlin Bristow. Your session is now ending.
