Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. And Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdads Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Polter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So whether it's your first time experiencing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times, you're going to fall absolutely in love all over again. So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen. Okay, let's take a quick second. Let's talk about True Car. If you're looking to buy a car, you're probably familiar with terms like MSRP and hey, you might even know what it stands for. But what does it actually mean?
Starting point is 00:01:21 The same goes for invoice, list price, dealer price, it's enough to confuse anybody. all you're really looking for is a price that actually means something. Introducing true price from true car. Now you can know exactly what you'll pay for the car that you want, including fees and accessories, before you even get to the dealership. True car dealers will show you the true price on cars like the one that you want, all from the comfort of your own home. And how do you know if your true price is a great price? Because true car shows you what other people paid for the same car that you want. And certified dealers know this. So they set their true price competitively so they can win your business.
Starting point is 00:01:59 We all hate that car buying experience when you go in and you don't know and you have to play the game, whatever. So when you're ready to buy a new or used car, visit True Car to enjoy a more confident car buying experience. And some features are not available in all states. Podcast One Presents Off the Vine, Grace Therapy. Caitlin Bristow's going to answer your questions. Drink to your confessions and hear what you have to say about anything Bachelor. Let's shake it up some more. Here's Caitlin.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Okay, welcome to Off the Vine. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. No wine in hand today. But we have coffee. We're doing coffee today. I need all the coffee. I just feel like it's 9 a.m., which is no excuse for me not to be drinking wine. But I'm still on painkillers because I got my wisdom tooth.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Oh my gosh. How was that? My one wisdom tooth. It was, it was a breeze, to be honest with you. It was. Okay, that's good. I'll tell you why, because I had a horror story happen to me about my bottom two teeth, but I feel like I'm so out of it right now.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Like, I'm just not on my A game, so I apologize. But let's get to introducing you so the people know, even though they can probably tell from your sweet voice. Oh, my goodness. You may remember her from The Voice, but she's been doing big things since then, like, you know, selling over one million digital calls. copies of your music, over two million career streams, making you one of the highest selling female country artists of the last three years alongside, I don't know if you've heard of her,
Starting point is 00:03:33 like, Carrie, I don't know how you pronounce her last name. Underwood, Underwood, Miranda Lambert, you just released your single Queenstown. Please welcome country star Ray Lynn to the studio. Yay! How is your coffee? Oh my gosh, it is so perfect. Okay, good. I didn't drink coffee because I heard that there was going to be coffee.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Oh, good. And I'm so, like, blonde. I didn't put two and two together because Kaylee texted me yesterday. Right. That's where you off. What's your coffee order? And I go, why? And she goes, no questions.
Starting point is 00:04:03 And so I haven't drank coffee this morning. I've been up since like 5.30. Oh, good Lord. I know. No, thank you. I'm trying to get hot for the ACMs right now. Oh. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It's a struggle McMuggles. Well, good for you. You're really committing to, I mean, would you up this morning to work out? Yes. And you look like this now? Oh, my gosh, stop. You're so put together. I'm really not that put together.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Well, you look put together. I'm just putting on a front for you. I did not put on a front for you today. I told you earlier, I gave you eyelashes, and now I said I looked like I rolled in on my skateboard. I just, I can't believe you actually put on eyelashes every day, and you just don't like get outlash extensions. Well, I did. I had lash extensions for a long time. They just came out, like, actually, that was one of my confessions on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:48 I paid $400 for lash extensions, which. Holy Jehovah. Yes, right? That's crazy. And I had them in and I don't know what. Oh, I got another embarrassing confession. I got like this ridiculous laser treatment on my face that Kim Kardashian does. And she had to put like oil all over my face.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And so all my lashes just started like falling out. Yeah, it was tragic. And so then I now I'm just gluing strips on until my real lashes grow back. And then you're going to get them again. It's a vicious cycle being called. Yes, it is. It's just, it's never ending. My girlfriend was like roots, everything.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I'm like, oh, Botox wears off after four weeks. It's not fun. Nothing. And then also, like, I know my husband has, like, the prettiest, darkest, long eyelashes ever. Of course. And I just, like, when he, like, looks down, I'm always just staring at them and he goes, I know you got my eyelashes. And I'm like, yeah, baby. Like, they're so beautiful.
Starting point is 00:05:43 He let me put mascara on him one time. Oh, I always want to do that to guys with nice eyelashes. I begged him. I said, please. And he let you. He let me. Oh, that's adorable. That's probably something he doesn't want everybody to know, but I really don't care.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Well, you know what? This is the podcast of Confessions, so that can be his confession from you. No, he didn't have a choice, but. So yeah, I got one wisdom tooth out. Do you have yours in? I've never had him taken out, so I guess I do. Well, some people, is that true? Some people don't have wisdom teeth.
Starting point is 00:06:14 I don't, I don't know if I do. Well, Jonathan out there had five. five he had five wisdom teeth holy crap yeah that's great Sean had five too actually I had four okay so here's my story so I lived in Germany for a little while and I got emergency dental surgery there
Starting point is 00:06:32 which was absolute hell so I'm like I woke up in a lot of pain I was by myself so I called this girl that I knew and I said you need to take me to a dentist somewhere like nobody spoke English in the I was in Nuremberg which is like nobody speaks English there so I go to this dentist
Starting point is 00:06:49 And as they figure out, we figure out through, like, my one girlfriend can speak a little German, that my bottom two wisdom teeth, like, need to come out and, like, quick. And he only had time to get one out. Oh, great. So I had to do one at a time. So far, I've got all my wisdom teeth out one at a time. And so the guy, he didn't put me under. He, the numbing wasn't completely through. So I started feeling pain when he was busting up my tooth.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Then they don't believe in painkillers in Germany. So he prescribed me ibuprofen. Oh. You need a prescription for ibuprofen in Germany. And I just like, then I had to go back and get the other one done. Like, so I couldn't even just do it at the same time and get it all over with. I had to like know the pain and go back. It was awful.
Starting point is 00:07:31 So this time I'm like, what do you? You just put a needle in my arm. I'm out and you take out the tooth and we're done here. Yeah. They're like, yeah. They wheeled me out in a wheelchair. I was so out of it. Isn't it crazy how like, though, your mind works and you think it's going to be that first pain and so you get all worked out?
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah. Because I did the same thing one time. It's just awful. About your teeth? No, so I had to get, confession time again. Yes. I had to get my deviated septum fix. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:56 And I had to get two surgeries for it. Mm-hmm. So the first one was so bad. Like, I had a, like, a dolphin head. Like, all of, like, this was all swollen up here in my forehead. And everything up here was, like, purple. It was so bad. It took me, like, a month and a half to recover.
Starting point is 00:08:10 No. A month and a half? Yeah. Like, it was awful. How old were you? I was 15. And because I couldn't breathe really well. And I was snoring and all this.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Anyway, it's long story short. That's terrible. I so the first surgery was so bad like I was like throwing up and I couldn't keep down food it was just so bad so when I went to my second surgery like and he told me like the second surgery would be like 20 minutes long and the first one was four hours like it was bad um I worked myself up so much that I got sick yeah because like I was just like all of this pain is going to come back yeah and it's just crazy how the mind works like that it freaks me out actually because I recently started suffering from anxiety in the last like maybe year or year and a half and it's crippling because your mind just takes over your whole body and it's like why can't my mind do that with positive stuff yeah like why can't i just you know think you should re-trigger it i'm gonna try that's my new goal your new goal yeah i'm gonna retry 2018 goal that's my new year's resolution i'm like what month are we in um okay tell me how you say i i butcher everything baytown texas baytown that's exactly right i was like maybe it's bayton
Starting point is 00:09:17 I don't know. No, it's Baytown. Baytown, Texas. So you grew up there, and now you've lived in Nashville for seven years. About seven years, I moved here. The summer I turned 18. So, yeah. I'm like, oh.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Summer you turned 18. What do you miss most about Texas? Well. Do you feel like it's kind of similar? Though, yes, yes, and no. Like, in the way that I feel like, I honestly never thought that I would live anywhere else besides Texas because Texas feels such like home. But the people in Tennessee are just. like the people in Texas, super southern.
Starting point is 00:09:49 The only way it's different is Baytown is, you know, a bunch of chain places and stuff like that. Like here, everything, you know, you have a more unique restaurant. It's probably more like, you know, it's more of like a city life. Right, right. And Baytown, it's small town. Yeah, well, I was going to ask, what is it like? Where is it near?
Starting point is 00:10:04 It's near Houston. So, I mean, but it's crazy because over the last couple years since I haven't been there, it's really been booming because there's, um, Baytown's a bunch of chemical plant. So it smells like crap. Oh, good. Like, but it's home to me. But anyway, so there's like Bayer, Exxon, Mobile, like all those big chemical plants are there. So there's tons of jobs there that have been opening up.
Starting point is 00:10:26 So there's like over, I think, 80,000 people that live there now. Oh, wow. And it's always been a pretty big town because it's been a work. It's a working town. But yeah, I mean, there's so many things there now. Like we just got a Panera like four years ago. And I was like, heck yeah. And it's Chipotle.
Starting point is 00:10:44 We're a big city now. I know. It was crazy. And it's just like. What else do we have? We have other... We're moving on up. Moving on up.
Starting point is 00:10:51 That's like where I grew up in a very small town called LaDuke. We were, like, jacked when we got a Walmart. Oh, yeah. I can't even imagine. I was like, I'm never leaving LaDuke. We got an academy, and it was like, you know, it was like a Taj Mahal. What's that? Academy sports and outdoors, like, it's like kind of like a dix or drinks.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Like, it's like a big sports store. Yeah. And when we got Academy, everybody was like, yeah. Especially us Red Nets. Like, I'm like, yeah, give me my camo. Like, I was all about it. I mean, yeah. Oh, my God, that's funny.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Do you consider yourself a redneck? Oh, hell, yeah. Oh, I love that. I always feel like I'm like I was supposed to be a redneck. Oh, being a redneck, yeah, I'm just like, and it's so funny because it sometimes I'm like, oh, my God, like, I'm not even, I don't even, where am I from? Like, who am I? And then I'll say something and I'm like, yeah, I'm from Baytown. Oh, that's so funny.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Or I'll do something. I'm just like, yep, I'm still. Baytown girl. Oh, I love that, though. And it's just, it's awesome. I'm actually really excited because I'm going to see my family this weekend. And I have a show in Alvin, Texas, which is like 45 minutes from Baytown, but I'm going to go spend like five days with my family.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Oh, how nice is that for your family? Like, do they get to come and watch you perform? Yeah, they're going to come to my show. And I have, well, I, between me and my husband, and we have like 15 nieces and nephews. Oh, my mom's side. I have 10. Oh, so I get to see on my mom. Wait, how do you even afford that?
Starting point is 00:12:15 You don't. I told my mom. I was like, until we have kids, we're not buying for the kids. Yeah, no, that's crazy. I don't think that there's a point. Like, I feel like I've justified my point. And why do we have to go broke when we didn't have all these children? Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:28 That's a great point. And so we buy, like, we switch between, like, all of the siblings will draw a name. Yeah. And then if you have kids and you buy for other kids. And the kids draw a name too. Oh, that's sweet. Because there's so many. That's, yeah, that's a lot.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Because I have, like, I'm like, I don't even know how many I have. Yeah, I have. Oh, my gosh. I have a lot now, too. Yeah. I have, like, eight. Yeah. And I do things for their birthday.
Starting point is 00:12:52 And, like, my, like, me and Josh's thing, it's like, when we spend time with them, like, if I have one of my nieces with me, I'll buy or something. Yeah, I'll go take their target or something. Like, I'd rather spend quality time with them and then get them something than, like, just send them up in the mail. You know, baseball cards or something in the mail for their birthday. Yeah. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I hear you. I have to tell you. I'm actually such a fan of you in your voice. I love it Sean and I actually We love the song Love Triangle Oh thank you And obviously
Starting point is 00:13:23 Sorry I told you I might have a cough attack I'm like getting sick On top of getting my wisdom tooth out On top of getting my period So it's just a lovely time for me It's a really lovely time What else? Oh god made girls
Starting point is 00:13:36 Great song Thank you I just love your You have a very unique great voice Thank you Great voice So now you have the song Queens Don't
Starting point is 00:13:45 We'll get to that Because I'm obsessed You went on the voice when you're 17. Now you're 23, almost 24. Yeah, I'll be 24 May 4th on Star Wars Day. Oh, that's our anniversary, so I'll remember. Oh, that's awesome. Don't forget, Sean.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Sorry, he forgot our anniversary last year. Oh, gosh. Please don't forget it. I made sure I didn't remind him, too. I was like, I was like, what do we doing tomorrow? And he's like, oh, I got so much to do. I'm like, hmm. And then in the morning I woke up with a nice gift and, like, breakfast in bed.
Starting point is 00:14:15 And he was like, shit. Yeah. Now he won't forget. He'll never forget again. He'll never forget again. So now, okay, being 23, almost 24, tell me how you think you as a person has matured and your voice has matured over the six years.
Starting point is 00:14:29 First of all. You haven't? I love you. That's me. I'm maturing slowly, but I would say I cannot watch my videos on the voice. Really? I just can't do it. Like I, because I, you know, it's not the fact that I was,
Starting point is 00:14:46 was bad. I wasn't bad. No. I just, like, I just, my voice has changed so much, and, like, I know, like, because at first, like, singing was a hobby for me. Like, I wanted to do it, but I didn't know that there was so much, like, vocal training to do, and it's a muscle, and it's, like, the more you work it out, the better it's going to get. And, so I was just, when I see myself, like, at 17 on that big stage, like, singing, and I'm, it's overwhelming. Like, how the hell did I do that yeah like and um it's you know the one thing that i loved about that show is it taught me so much about performing on a stage doing interviews i've never done interviews before and um and being
Starting point is 00:15:26 mentored by blake was so awesome and the biggest thing that he told me and i've kept throughout my career is he's like you have a really unique voice and he goes don't ever let anybody change that because that's what's going to make you stand out on radio and stand out in country music and so that's one thing that i've always kept to my heart And I've had, you know, I've been writing for a long time. I've written so many songs. And there's been so many times where I got confused about really where my path was in music. And it's just crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:58 And the more I, and I've really found myself really in the last couple of years of just writing what my heart feels and being super vulnerable. And I think that's the only way that you can be in music because I'm going to have to sing these songs for the rest of my life. And I don't want to sing stuff that I don't want. I'm not proud of and I'm not excited about and it's just crazy like I'll talk more about Queens later but you know it's
Starting point is 00:16:23 I feel I've you know I've been married for a couple years now and there's something about when you find the person that's for you how everything in life just kind of makes sense and that's one thing that happened to me and it was the best thing that happened to me was finding my husband like he's just kind of like
Starting point is 00:16:41 because when I do get like worked up but it's like, why isn't this happening for me? Or why is this, like, you know, you get caught up in your head. Of course. You get anxiety. Of course. He's the person that, you know, brings me right back down to where I need to be of, like, Ray, like, you've got this. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:56 I'm like, tell me more about him. How did you guys meet? So. And when? Oh, gosh. So we met when I was 18 and he was 21. And we met actually, first time my son was at church. And so this is my, so apparently we have confused.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Confessions, right? Yeah. So this is my confession. Okay, here we go. Well, our first cousins are actually married. So technically, like, I don't know if he's my cousin, but if he is, that's really weird and we're not going to talk about it. But think about it, it's our first cousin. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Wait, let me think about this. Okay, let me tell you. Let me explain this. Okay, so. Holy crap. Let me sit my coffee for this one. Yeah, let me sit my coffee for this one. So his dad and his dad's sister, his dad's sister's daughter, is married to my mom's sister's son.
Starting point is 00:17:53 So it's our first cousins. Okay. So it's like you're, you know, your aunt's son, right? Yeah. Marrying Sean's. Oh. Oh, so you're good. Daughter.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Like, you know what I mean? You're golden. Do you get what I mean? Yes. Okay. Yes. So. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:18:09 But it's funny. So anyway, so I'm at church and my cousin. my first cousin, is talking to this extremely attractive man. And I'm like, who the hell is that? I want to know him. And so... Look at you. You're getting kidding. So Jack, my cousin, comes up back up to me, and I go, who is that?
Starting point is 00:18:28 And he goes, oh, that's Whitney's cousin. And I was like, why didn't you tell me that Whitney had a hot cousin? Like, I want to know who that is. And he goes, oh, Ray, you're so funny. I was like, is he coming to lunch? Because, you know, classic, everybody goes to lunch after church. Right. And so anyways, he didn't come to lunch, but I totally hit him up on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And I was like, why have I not met you before? Oh, like classic. And then we were at the same wedding a couple weeks later. And then we started dating. We dated for about nine or ten months. Yeah. Broke up for two years. No.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Yes. Yes. Broke up for two years and then got back together and got married. Oh, my gosh. Wait, that's so romantic. Yeah. You broke up for two years? Yeah, we just, it wasn't like.
Starting point is 00:19:11 It just wasn't time. It wasn't our time. But that's the whole thing. That's the most romantic thing about it is that you. And when we came back together, we were just like, honestly, I remember the, like, the date when we came back together, like, we hung out. And we were like, we're going to get married. Like, because we just knew. It's like, you just know.
Starting point is 00:19:29 And, but yeah, it was, it was awesome. When did you get married? So it was, we just had her two year, February 27th. Oh. Oh, that's such a nice story. I really love that. Yeah. Yeah, but he played at baseball, he played baseball at Belmont here.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Oh, wow. So, yeah. Is he in music or wasn't? No, he's not in music at all. So he played baseball for a couple years, and then now he's in the service. Oh, and is that a new thing? Well, he joined, yeah, it's been about, he's been in for about a year and a half, so yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Well, thank you for his service. Thank you. From all of the Vino's here listening. And you said somewhere that he writes you handwritten, like. letters? Yeah, so we were apart for 14 weeks. Could not talk. That's, we talked. What? Probably on the phone. We probably talked on the phone for 14 weeks. Two minutes. Oh my gosh. I take that back. 22 minutes. There was one time we could call me and we talked for 20 minutes. But the other time we talked for like 30 seconds and you'd be like call me, check on me and
Starting point is 00:20:31 then hang out. Oh my gosh. And I couldn't even say anything. How much does it piss you off when people I complain about long distance relationships? Oh, honey boo boo-boo child. I was looking. I will never forget. I hadn't seen Josh in six weeks. And this girl on Instagram, Jesus, Help Me, Father. Oh, no. Was, like, bawling her eyes out, no. Because she hadn't seen her boyfriend in a week.
Starting point is 00:20:53 No. What? And I wrote this long message to send this girl. And I was like, listen. But I deleted it, and I asked the Lord to forgive me for how I felt because I'm just like. But you know what? It put things in perspective for me because I, that's something that. that probably I would have done, like at 18.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Yes. And said, oh, my God, what am I? I haven't seen my boyfriend in eight. Yes. But then you realize there's bigger problems in the world, and people don't see their, like. One time I hadn't seen Josh, I didn't see Josh for six weeks, and then I met, it was totally a God thing. I went to Starbucks the next day, and I was talking to this girl, and her husband was deployed for six months. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:34 And I was just like, what am I? Yeah, right. That's true. That's a good way to look at it. that, you know. It's still hard, though, either way. Oh, my gosh. I cannot imagine.
Starting point is 00:21:44 I mean, Sean and I both travel all the time, and I do. I miss them after, like, five days. But I just can't imagine and not talking. And, like, and that's scary, too. But we have all those letters, which is awesome. Okay, that is, I'm like. I never, this is so funny. So my mailman's name is Jeff.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And I never checked them out. I'm the worst at checking them out. And so I was getting letters every day from Josh. And I was sending him as much as I could. And anyways, I was checking the mail every day. Yeah. And Jeff, like, pulled up, and I was, like, waiting for the mail that day. And then he came in.
Starting point is 00:22:18 You know the mailman's name because you're waiting every day. And so he goes, he was like, why are you taking the mail so much? And I said, well, my husband's in the Army. And, like, I'm waiting for letters. So you've got to, like, make sure. And so it was, like, super sweet. So he started delivering him to my door. And he was like, Josh, see you a letter today.
Starting point is 00:22:36 And it was like. It's like straight out of the movies. And it, I think, like, something, they were, like, why were the letters so sweet? And I said, one, some of my favorite letters, and this, like, could make me cry because it's just so sweet. But, like, some of them were, like, literally on the, can we cuss on here? Yeah, of course. We're, like, on the shittiest piece of paper. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Like, like, the tiniest piece of notebook paper. Yeah. And they were, like, had, like, drops of, like, I don't know if, like, where he was in the field. But it was just, like, I love you so much. I'm thinking about you. I miss you so much. Like, can't wait to see you. Like, they were so short.
Starting point is 00:23:05 But you know he just took that time to, like, And, like, just the fact that he thought about me. Of course. And, like, sitting in whatever the hell he was doing, like... You are what is on his mind. Yeah. It's just so sweet. Gosh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:16 That is really sweet. And there's just something... I keep saying the word romantic with you guys, but that is. It's just, like, your story's romantic. And, like, there's something about a handwritten letter. Yeah. It's just so different. It's so different in, like, the best way.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Is he a romantic guy? Yeah, he is. Yeah. Is that the most romantic thing? Because I think that's super romantic. Oh, yeah. What else does he do that? I'm trying to think
Starting point is 00:23:40 That could be it Because that's That was I mean that's So romantic And then he just always surprises me With things Which I think is so sweet
Starting point is 00:23:47 I do I love I love surprise One time I didn't think that he was gonna like Have like a dinner for me Like at for Valentine's Day And I was really pissed And like I was just like thinking about I can relate to this feeling
Starting point is 00:23:57 I'm gonna rip him a new one Yeah And I get home And he was like hey Just spend like an extra 20 minutes like at the gym Or whatever I was like whatever
Starting point is 00:24:05 And so I got home and like he didn't make a reservation anywhere but it's okay because he like he like made like the sweetest dinner for us like he like cooked steaks and stuff and I was so much better like he got a movie like there was John Mayer playing when he got there was candles everywhere oh that's and like I actually liked that better because it's like it's awesome and we got to spend so much time together and I feel like yeah that's when you have the best like quality conversations too is just in your own home and in a romantic little setting It's so awesome. And then that just shows he put in a lot of effort into it, too. He did. That's way, way harder than making a reservation. I remember him saying, because at the time, like, I was, like, trying to eat super healthy. He goes, there's only a little bit of butter in the steak. Don't worry about it.
Starting point is 00:24:49 And I said, babe, it's Valentine's Day. I'll eat the whole damn steak. Like, it's okay about the butter. Oh, that's so cute. He goes, I just wanted it to be good. Oh, what a sweetheart. I know. He's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:25:00 He sounds like it. I was thinking about, like, handwriting. And then I'm like, do you, when you write music, do you, like, write it out, do you type it How do you, what does your writing process look like? Because you co-wrote 11 out of your 12 tracks on my first track, yeah, which is amazing. Thank you. I, it's different every time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Sometimes I'll do it on my computer, and then sometimes I like to write it out and see it. But, yeah, it's just different every time. That's so, I depends on what I'm, like, wanting. Sometimes I just don't want a computer. I'm just like, give me a good old-fashioned notepad. Yeah, I hear you. I like to journal. Actually, I was really good at journaling when I was on the show and then coming off of it now,
Starting point is 00:25:34 I'm like, I keep meaning to. I really want a gratitude journal because I want to just like at the end of every day write something and like the highlights of my day so that I can go back and see all the good stuff, you know? Yeah. But I just, you know, then life happens. One of my managers, she's so awesome, but she gave me this book and she said, anytime any sweet things happen in your life with your husband or when you have kids, like be sure to write them down and remember those things that you can tell your family one day.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Yeah. I was like, that's such a good idea. And she gave it to me when me and Josh got married. and I just always think about that because we've ever written a few things that like and so when you get upset at the person you go read it and you're like I do love you that's true it's just so true I always laugh at relationships because I mean they're so funny because one moment you could just be like I actually can't stand you like I don't know how I'm going to do this for the rest of my life and then the next minute you're like I could never live
Starting point is 00:26:25 without you I love you so much you're by everything you're like oh my god yeah I'm so drama 24-7 I was like babe I don't even know how you're married to me yeah I always say that to really He goes, he's like, I love you. I says, gosh, that's like this morning. What did I call Sean? I'm like, the garbage truck is passing by right now. And he's like, oh, shoot, I forgot to take it out. And I'm like, hmm.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Like, okay, I'm like, well, your dad's coming into town today. And now we have smelly garbage in the house. And I had to call him back after because I'm like, he's like, are you calling back because you feel bad about the attitude? And I'm like, well, I mean, I am annoyed about the garbage. But like, I always try to make excuses for myself. Really, I'm like, oh, why do I get like that? Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:06 It's just because he's my person. Yeah, and it's like you take out things in the person you love. Yeah. And he does it to me too. Yeah, and it works. Did you already confess to me? What did you confess? See, that's how my brain is working this morning.
Starting point is 00:27:20 I confess the fact that me and Josh are cousins. Oh, yeah. Okay, I will never forget. I went to his baseball formal with him when he was, I was 18 and he was 21. Yeah. And, you know, all of his buddies are they. and they're passing out like these joking awards and somebody found out that our cousins are married
Starting point is 00:27:39 and you know when you're I guess like at this time he did not think this was funny and now he's like it's funny but they said most likely to date your cousin Josh Davis and he hated that really I remember him getting so pissed and I thought it was so funny I was like babe get a grant that's great and it was so classic that's amazing that's really funny
Starting point is 00:28:03 Let's take a little mid-show break, shall we, talk about daily harvest. I don't know about you, but when things get crazy, I wind up eating junk food, like three meals a day. It says if fruits and vegetables don't even exist. And that's why I love daily harvest. They deliver plant-based frozen eats right to my door, so I don't even have to think about making the healthy choice. So be sure to check out Women and Money on Apple Podcasts, Podcast. Podcast.com, and the new Podcast One app. This is Austin Vine, Grape Therapy. Okay, let's talk about Queens. It's called Queens Don't, right? You just call it Queens for short sometimes?
Starting point is 00:30:18 Queens, Queens, don't, whatever. I kind of like it. Tell us about that. You said initially the song was about female empowerment, but became more broad as it developed. Tell me about it. Tell me about the song. It's so funny because, of course, it's called Queens Don't.
Starting point is 00:30:32 It's all my ladies. I love it. But the more I think about it and the more I listen to this song, I believe it's more of like an attitude. And I, you know, I didn't come from a whole lot of nothing. I mean, I mean, I had an amazing family, have an amazing family. But, you know, I've had these dreams of doing what I want to do, and I got to see them come to pass because I believe in my sense. and I believe that great things are going to happen for me and Josh. But I think I've just learned a lot, and we were talking about this earlier, but I've just
Starting point is 00:31:06 learned a lot about focusing on the people that want to see you win in life. And I've always been one of those girls, and I think we can all relate to this, that I always want to be a people pleaser, and I always want every girl to like me, every guy to like me, everybody to like think that I'm funny, that I'm this, think that I'm this, think that I'm that but that's just not the way the world goes no and I quickly realized that and at first like it really got me down and I kind of like lost the that this is my lane you know and I kind of started looking left and right and wondering what's happening yeah and then the more that you know the more life that I've lived and being married and just figuring out my own and figuring out who my friends are and
Starting point is 00:31:57 it's like it's hard to figure out who your friends are like isn't that a weird concept too why is it hard to figure out who your friends are but it really is it is and the older I get I mean I know that I'm 23 and I'm still going to learn more but I my circle gets smaller and smaller and and I just feel like you know I mean I I I don't ever want to be a girl that hates on another girl or another guy I don't ever want to be somebody who is um who is judgmental I don't want I'm like and I was thinking of as I was writing this song I was going to think of what are the things that I stand for Queens don't hate queens don't fight you know I mean we fight for what we believe in you know but and I started basically writing this song as things that I would stand up for and the things that I've really learned in the last couple years and and I think that's why it's relating so much is because yeah girls feel that and and that's what I believe being an artist is is speaking your truth and talking about things and
Starting point is 00:32:55 that nobody wants to talk about. And I mean, I wouldn't have written a song like this four years ago. Right. And isn't that exciting for like, maybe, what are you going to write in four years from now? I know. I'm like, oh, shit. It's so cool because I love this about people who write music and you get to get your own feelings out and talk about things that are important to you and that some people, like you said,
Starting point is 00:33:16 wouldn't talk about. But you're going to attract such a great audience from that. Like, people are going to be such loyal followers of you because you are speaking your truth. and so many people will relate to the things that you're saying that they're like, wow, I'm not the only one. Like, I think that's so cool with music. It's, that's the coolest part about music. It's like, and then sometimes you'll write a song, like, that totally means something different to another fan. Like, when I wrote Love Triangle, I remember I had a fan come up to me and say, you know, my parents were never divorced, but they lived in separate bedrooms.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Like, I felt like I lived in a love triangle my own home. Wow. But her parents weren't divorced. So she kind of took it in a different way. That's the beauty of songwriting. But, yeah, I'm super pumped about Queenstone. It's going to, I just have such a really, I have a really good feeling about it. Well, you should.
Starting point is 00:34:03 I'm pumped. Yeah, you should be. Your, like, Instagram videos, like, leading up, that was, did you just have so much fun making this? Oh, my gosh. Those were so much fun. I just, I loved. So, okay, so I saw this picture on Pinterest. I love Pinterest.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Oh, who does it? And, um, I have a love hate with Pinterest because once I'm on, I'm on. I like. the amount of stuff that I screen shot when we bought a house, like what to do. Pinterest is a hell of a drug. Oh, yeah, it's bad. And anyways, so I saw this picture of this, like, girl on this throne and blah, I was like,
Starting point is 00:34:39 oh, my God, I want that to be my single cover. Yeah. But I was like, I don't want to wear, like, a fancy dress. I want to wear, like, I want to show anybody can be a queen. So I was like, I want to wear, like, cool jeans shorts and, like, a tank top and maybe, like, a cool, like, you know, cape or something. And literally, that's what I wore. Like it was so cool because I wanted to show that you don't have to be,
Starting point is 00:34:57 everybody should be treated like royalty no matter where you come from and everybody should stand up for themselves. And people are like seeing themselves in the song and so, yeah, it's cool. But that video was so much fun to me. Oh, I bet. You just feel like Beyonce. Oh, hell yeah. I felt like, I felt like Yonse, I wore this like low-cut, like suit dress thing, you majigger.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Yeah. And I just, so I have a love-hate relationship with extension. of my hair. Oh, me too. I got a lot of extensions earlier this year. I had long hair, like, down to, right, like, a little below my boobs, and I just didn't like it anymore, and, like, my hair just looks better short, so I just took them all out, and I cut my hair before the shoot. Like, I was like, I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:35:42 And so, like, and then, like, I had my hair, like, slicked back, and I had this thing on, I was like, I feel so hot. See? I love this, but, because I'm short. I'm 5, too, so short hair makes me look tall. I drowned in hair. Oh, that's another thing. When I see, like, my style when I was, like, 17, I just want to throw up. Oh.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Oh. When I see myself from two years ago, I want to throw up. Yeah. I just... It's so funny. That's... I have the same love, hate, with hair extensions. Like, so many things like that.
Starting point is 00:36:09 I just see, like, Instagram all the time, and I'm like, oh, that girl's hair is perfect. And then I, like, put in all these extensions. And then I just don't feel like myself all the time. Like, I feel like it's a once-in-law thing. But you have great blonde hair. Thank you. How do you keep it so, like, healthy and shiny? I am just going to have to shout out my salon.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Lee Edwards and Company is where I go. Okay. And she's been doing my hair since I was... Wait, see this again? Lee Edwards and Company. Is that in Nashville? Yeah, in Nashville. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:33 It's close to Target, like on Whitebridge. I'm like, Target? Okay, which one? You know what on the one on White Bridge? It's like by Jay Alexander's and all that. Okay. But she's amazing and she's been doing my blonde for a long time. And we just recently went icy blonde and I'm like obsessed with it.
Starting point is 00:36:49 It's so good. I eventually want to be like white. You are. I know. I'm dramatic. You know what I mean? Like this cup. I'm just kidding. No, I love it. I'm obsessed. It's so great. It's so much fun. I always want it. I keep going blonder and blondeer and blonder. This is another, they'll get me started on the Instagram people. They're like, I don't know if this happens to you. But people constantly comment on my photos that I look so
Starting point is 00:37:13 much better brunette. And I'm like, but I'm blonde. Why are you telling me that? Yeah. Or like when you have short hair, they're like, oh my God, I like your long hair. I'm like, yeah, but you didn't have to itch your head 24-7 and have to like have a like a five-pound keg on your head when you're working out and then suffer from bald spots yeah bald spots that's the thing about me like truth confession another one yeah when i had extensions like i was breaking out on the back of my head oh yeah i didn't wash my hair because it took so long to dry and you can't wash it every day and i work out every day it was it was just awful yeah that sounds awful it was awful it was awful. What kind of extensions did you have?
Starting point is 00:37:53 They were amazing though. They were really good. They were the bond extensions, but the ones that like, not with glue, it was the, uh, oh, they're like little beads? Yeah, they were like, little clamps. So they were awesome, but they were the best ones that you could get, but they just, it just didn't work for my lifestyle. And I, like, there's just so much work. And I want to be like this blonde and like you can't find extensions that blonde. Yeah. So you'd have to it would awful. It's a whole process. It's a production. It's just never going to happen again. It's a production. Yeah. That's, I mean, I could talk about Harold. Yeah. It's like, that's, that's, That's a confession to mine that I like, when people say to me something like hair goals, I'm like, that's because I have like eight layers of clippins in my hair and I had someone professionally do it.
Starting point is 00:38:32 Like this right now, what you're seeing, like this is my real hair. This is not hair goals. Mine, this is real. Yeah, but I want to cut my hair now. Cut it off. Okay. I'm all about going short. I don't, if I, this is another thing that I always say.
Starting point is 00:38:49 when I took my exsches out I'm like, now I understand why Britney Spears went bald. Oh, I totally get it. Listen, I used to not understand it. No, I totally get everything about it. I totally understand it now. I understand her meltdown. Oh, I get it all. There's times where literally I wanted to shave my head and wear a wig.
Starting point is 00:39:05 You know what? I've thought about wearing wigs. Because the Kardashians do it. Yeah. And I'm like they're apparently really expensive. But still, I've heard that people... I would totally loud. Yeah, because then you can have whatever hair you want and you don't have to wear it. I would totally love.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Let's shave our heads. Let's shave our heads. Screw it. Let's do it. Oh my gosh. Okay. I can't believe I haven't brought this up yet. You're the face of two-faced cosmetics.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Yes. With their, what is the collection? Life's a festival collection. It's in every Sephora, Alta. That is huge. Thank you. That's like the coolest. Well, I mean, no, music is the coolest thing.
Starting point is 00:39:40 But that is so cool that you got to do that. You must have beat out some pretty big names to get. It was, honestly, that was just Jesus. That's just like straight up the Lord. Right. I love it how I can go from cussing to talking about Jesus. Of course. Merry Christmas.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Anyways, but I, so I met, so I've been obsessed with, so the first, kind of full circle. The first palette I ever bought with my own money was their, was it their glamour revolution palette that Maria Antoinette or inspired by Marie Antoinette. And I bought it when I was 12 at Sephora and I was obsessed with makeup. Always been obsessed with makeup because I love glitter. Yeah. Anyways, so I, like, I was talking to my brand manager at Warner, my label, and I said, one of my dreams is to do something with Tooface, but that is, like, the end goal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:27 Like, I know that I'm not some huge superstar yet, but that would be awesome. And so she got your end goal right now. So, like, yeah, I know. I was like, oh, Jesus, please help me. Like, there's a better, I mean, there's awesome Warren goals. But yeah, so I told her that, and she found a rep, and then I was like, I'm going to send this guy a video. She was like, we're going to try to send him a video. I was like, Jared, I love you.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I love your makeup. Like, I wore, and I told him, like, you know, we're unicorn sisters. I was telling him that, like, I bought his glamour revolution palette when I was 11. I told him the story. And then he sent me a video back and asked for my number and was like, oh, my God, I love, love triangle. It was super sweet. So then we just start texting. And honestly, he's like a brother I never had.
Starting point is 00:41:12 We are so much alike. And I love him so much. him and his husband are so sweet. And anyways, so he wants to meet me. And he was telling me about this unicorn collection that they were coming up with. But, you know, I wasn't going to press it. Like, I just thought it was awesome,
Starting point is 00:41:26 and I just wanted to be his friend because I'd just love his makeup so much. And then I come out to L.A., and I thought I was going to have to, like, sell myself for this unicorn collection. I was like, all right. You, like, show up in a full costume. Getting my boots on, you know, my unicorns on.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Let's do this shit. Like, that's what I was thinking. I walk in, and he's like, so do you want to see the collection that you're going to be the face of and i was like oh that just gave me like the chills and i was like you're kidding oh my gosh and so and like i'm like nervous because it's like you know i'm like five two i'm not like some like model or anything like i do you're the face of two face so you're but like you know the last artist that they worked with was katy perry when she did the one of the boys records like a long time ago she did she did one of their uh campaigns i forgot
Starting point is 00:42:14 for which palette. So that's the last artist they work for, and they've only done models since then. Wow. So anyways, he was like, I can't think of a more perfect person to be a part of this collection. And then we're like envisioning what we're going to do.
Starting point is 00:42:25 I was like, if I could ride a unicorn, they'd be so cool. And like, if I could have like a magical colorful ponytail and all this stuff. And he's like, okay, that's done, done, done. Oh my gosh. And then like, that photo shoot was like life.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Yeah. Oh my gosh. And like, and like the guy who did my hair, Jonathan is like the coolest guy ever. and he, like, does all the Kardashians hair, so he was, like, trying to get him to tell me stuff, and he wouldn't tell me anything. He's like, yeah, that's a huge contract.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Kylie, really pregnant. She's like, he's like, yes. Yeah. Just confirms it to you. Yeah, just confirms it. She's like, yeah. I'm like, ah. Anyways, and so, but it was just, like, such a dream come true.
Starting point is 00:43:00 And then I, so that photo shoot was in the summer. And then, you know, it took forever to get it out because with everything. And then so it finally just came out. And I'm just, it's so crazy to see myself in, like, Sepora and Ulta. Oh my gosh, that is a dream come true. Yeah. Especially because you've been like, like wanting something like that.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Yeah. You almost didn't even know you were putting that out into the universe, but you were since you were like 11. Yeah. It's just crazy. You are a unicorn. And it's just super cute because my nieces went to Ulta and they were like, there's Aunt Ray Ray on the unicorn. Oh, that's. And I was like, I can't imagine like being that young and just seeing my aunt like on a unicorn at a store.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I'd be like, I'm like, what's your live, little Munchkin? Like, she's so cute. Oh my gosh, wow, that's incredible. Well, good for you. Thank you. I'm pumped. Now I want to put it out into the universe. And it's so, like, I did this event for them in L.A.
Starting point is 00:43:57 And all the influencers came. Some makeup influencers have like 8 million followers. Oh, it's crazy. Yeah, and like I met Candy Johnson, who's like super sweet, some big makeup, YouTube makeup artist. And I met so many other ones. Like, this one girl. was from Brazil and she had like 10 million followers and like she's so beautiful and so sweet and like there was just like all these amazing people and then like it was just like nuts like after
Starting point is 00:44:23 this event like that we did I like gained like 5,000 followers and I was just like what the heck is happening it's just no it's just crazy how it's a totally different world like I feel we're just so focused on music and like we're so pinpoint like America music this blah blah blah blah and then there's so much more out in the universe that we just don't even know about like like YouTubers like YouTubers like it's crazy no it really is all the different like Sean so into fitness even just the fitness community the makeup community like so many I mean every and then you go to like a third world country and you're like excuse me yeah like you just don't know anything when you you know I'm Canadian too so I'm like I thought I would only know Canada like grow up in Canada stay in my small town and and like I just didn't I mean I knew I wanted to get out but I just you don't know what else is out there in the world until you get out that's what when I have kids I want to take them out of school and travel the world yeah I think that's the biggest my manager does that so much and she's like that's the most thing they're going to learn is about yeah that's what I agree I agree I agree I agree that's you get to travel a lot with touring do you get to ever go out of the country um we went to London one time and we're going to do more of that that's cool so what is the tour coming up um I'm on the same teen ex woman of country tour right now we're about to wrap that up and then we have a bunch of festivals this summer so i mean between your touring and your husband being away and you have two dogs two dogs have a chihuahua and a derma shepherd oh my gosh how is like how do you balance or manage i don't think
Starting point is 00:45:57 there is such things balance don't get me started on that topic but do it you just do it i just do it i just do it i just don't even like i just do it which is crazy i always feel like so old when i say this but i'm like oh you're so young you can do it you have enough energy that's yeah i mean it's true though telling my sister, I was like, I'm so proud of myself because I've kept, keep my house so clean. Because, like, I was, like, the worst housekeeper. Oh. And then I was like, when I buy a house, it's staying clean. And I've done a really good job.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Like, things, like, I'm just really proud of myself. And she goes, wait until you have kids. And I was like, whatever, Lauren. Like, nobody cares. Do you guys want kids? Yeah, for a couple years. Oh, yeah. That's, I mean, I'm 32 and I'm still like, I'm going to wait a couple years.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Yeah. I just, I mean, if it happens, like, cool, we're going to do it. Right. Of course. I mean, you could do it all. Yeah. You're a unicorn. We'll just figure it out.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Just throw them in a baby bureau and go. You know, that's how they do it. I know. And it's like, every time I see Joshua the kid, my ovary is like hurt. I know. I'm just like, ugh, you're so hot with a child. I know. I can't handle it.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And especially when they're so good with kids. Oh, yeah, when they're super good and like, or they just, oh, I just can't even talk about it. I know. Sean with his niece and nephew. Just, again, ovaries. And then, yeah, you're just like, they're like, I just want a baby. Like I just like start speaking to you I know
Starting point is 00:47:12 Oh I can't wait to see Sean as a dad What was I talking about? Oh tours Did I have another question about that? Oh I wanted to get to your dogs Yes Tell me about your dogs So one is a service dog
Starting point is 00:47:23 Yes For my diabetes Tell me all about this Because you're also Type 1 diabetic Yes And you are on your third year partnering with
Starting point is 00:47:32 Novanortis Yes So Nover Nordisk is pharmaceutical company and I'm on one of their insulin's Novalogue. And so I've been doing a lot of things with them for three years. And it's a super cool way for me to just give back and talk about my story. That's all it is is just me telling my diabetes story.
Starting point is 00:47:51 And I got diagnosed when I was 12. And I mean, it's like completely changed my life, obviously. And you go through like the motions of, oh, my God, is somebody going to want to date me? I'm going to have to take shots. I'm going to have to do this. And not good shots. Not like the ones that you feel. good like full on shots you know every day it's so funny because I'm growing up I'll be like I have to
Starting point is 00:48:13 take a shot and be like what the hell it's early it's like actually an insulin shot yeah um but being a like a partner with novo has been so great for me because I can tell my diabetes story and I have my own foundation a Raylan diabetes fund and amazing um which we give back in so many ways like the first thing that we did is I gave $10,000 to the hospital, the Texas Children's Hospital for their diabetes research and preparing like young teens like because I that was the years for me that were the hardest was like 13 through 17 because you're growing you're figuring things out no matter what and think about having like a autoimmune disease on top of that and so it's all about just kind of preparing them
Starting point is 00:49:03 But that was one of the coolest things that I got to do last year. I think this thing just fell out of my ear. Oh, I was like, what is that? Oh, it was the cord for your headphones. I was so confused. I thought it was like your earring or something that fell out. Wow. But yeah, it's an awesome, it's an awesome company to be, you know, partnered with.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Yeah. And jazz, speaking of. Yeah, okay. And jazz is the German Shepherd? So Jazz is my German Shepherd. Dolly's worthless. Dolly's my cherub Chihuahua. Did you say she's worthless?
Starting point is 00:49:32 She's worthless. We just love her. Like, she adds no purpose to the world but loves me. But she, yeah, exactly. The purpose of her is to love me. Oh, that's all you need. Oh, yeah. She's the best.
Starting point is 00:49:41 You know that we lost her earlier than she. Okay, Keeley was telling me this. Yeah, I lost her for three days in nine degree weather and Pigeon Forge. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Did you, like, I didn't sleep for three days. How did you function? I didn't function.
Starting point is 00:49:53 No. Like, it was the worst. And my husband and Josh had just taken jazz. I was home alone. No dogs. Like, sad. Like, it was the worst. but anyways let me touch on jazz jazz so jazz um i can my edd like no this is but jazz um is so he can tell
Starting point is 00:50:11 my blood sugar's low or high and how do they do that they it's like he can they're sense yeah he can sense it it's it's just crazy he's so smart and um but yeah he's he's amazing so he can tell if your blood sugar's low what does he do so he'll like just jump on me or um like kind of start nuzzling me and sometimes he'll just have to go to the bathroom but I always check my sugar yeah um and yeah one time he woke me up when I was sleeping on the bus and it was like my sugar was like 60 and yeah
Starting point is 00:50:41 he's he's pretty incredible dogs are so smart yeah but he like doesn't he like cuddles with me for like five seconds my chihuahua will go to sleep with me at nine and we'll wake up the next morning at like 11 like she is lazy as hell yeah like the best cuddler and when you move her she's kind of like a bitch like she'll start growling at you and I love that about her like she's sassy she's so sassy I love she has her own personality so how did she she just run away or what happened
Starting point is 00:51:08 so we were um in pigeon forge and forge which is hilarious because her name's dolly after dolly partner's amazing yeah and we were um it was the countdown for the new year and I left the it was me I left the door open for I was running to the stage to do the countdown yeah and the fireworks went off and she bolted out because she was scared. Oh my gosh. I mean, what a miracle that you found her. And we literally were, it was like 15 degrees out. It was 10 degrees out that night. The wind was blowing. I was yelling her name. I had no voice. My face was chapped. We were looking for five hours outside. Yeah. And I had to leave Pigeon Forge without her. And that was like the hardest thing ever. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Like not knowing.
Starting point is 00:51:56 And I drove back the next day. So, and then how did you find her? so the place that we're playing was called the island and the island had all their workers were there and so they like just were looking for three days and they ended up finding her bless them oh my god they're like my angels simply yeah absolutely like because honestly i thought dolly was dead like nine degrees nine degree weather one night one night was six degrees like one night was one night was six degrees like and i was just like praying to god every day and when we found her, I was like, this just goes to show that 2018 is the year of miracles.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Because that is a miracle. It is. It is a straight up miracle from Jesus that that dog survived. Yeah. I'm like still kind of, I'm like so happy that she did, but I'm confused. Like, how? It was literally... How big is she?
Starting point is 00:52:41 I told Josh, too. She's like six or seven pounds. And I told Josh, I said, you deserve to give her a salute when you see her. Like, she deserves a salute. I don't even know if Jazz could do that, okay? And jazz is like a wuss. And so when he saw her, he goes, all right, Dolly, I got mad respect for you. And I was like, thank you.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Oh, oh, my gosh. That's amazing. I love it. That's such a sweet story. I'm so glad you found her. I know. I love all your stories. I'm like, God, this is incredible.
Starting point is 00:53:10 It's a lot of stories. Yeah, but they're all, like, such happy endings. Thank you. I try to keep happy endings. I'm, like, so excited for you in your next, like, I don't know how many years of life. Like, you've got good things coming. Thank you. You're so sweet.
Starting point is 00:53:23 Well, you put good things out there. feel like you're a good person well I wouldn't have you on if you weren't but I just feel like you attract good things happening to you so I'm gonna play a little game with you okay I love games it's just called this or that okay it's really not very clever but I just like to get to know people hey that works um okay text or call call um depends I guess it depends on how you talk to some people I just cannot handle the law and they just talk away too some people can't handle texting yeah um pancakes or waffles pancakes oh didn't even hesitate yeah okay
Starting point is 00:53:57 Texas or Tennessee Texas of course uh book or movie movie yeah have you seen the greatest showman no I just talk about this on every podcast I haven't seen it I know I need to see it it's I've seen it three times so is my sister-in-law I'm obsessed um 50s or 80s music 80s okay Shania Twain or Faith Hill
Starting point is 00:54:21 Oh, that's hard. Probably Shania Twain. Faith, I love you, Faith, I love you, I love you. But Shania's, man. She's Shania. Yeah. Yeah. In and out or Chick-fil-A.
Starting point is 00:54:33 Chick-fil-A. Hmm. Interesting. Oh, no, I guess that's like a... Yeah, I guess, is that like a Celt-Foeing? Yeah, and it's like, I just love their chicken sandwich with extra pickles. Oh, I love pickles. And my brother-in-law owns a Chick-fil-A in Springfield, Missouri.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Really? Do you get free Chick-fil-A? I haven't been there yet because I haven't been to the new store, but I hope so. Yeah. That's, I'm, I'm obsessed with, I just love a good burger. Oh, me too. I love it, no-no. Team Adam or team Blake?
Starting point is 00:55:05 Team Blake. Even though Adam did turn around for me, Team Blake. Yeah, there you go. Are you a wine girl? Yes, I like red wine. Okay, what's your other drink of choice? Margarita. Margarita or red wine?
Starting point is 00:55:18 Margarita. Really? I love a good margarita, too. Have you had the barred at bar taco? I'm like trying, yes, I have. I'm just trying to, I've had a marguerite at every, like, taco place in Nashville, so I'm just trying to remember which one's bar taco? Bar taco is the place in 12 South.
Starting point is 00:55:34 Is it right by, um, Japer James and all that stuff? Old Glory. Um, oh, um, Barcelona? No. Oh, that's... I'm talking about in 12 South, so it's like... I'm still so confused about the area's in Nashville. So, like, Prothie monkey.
Starting point is 00:55:49 Oh. Yes, because Cain and Smith told me to have a margarita there. That's the one I have not had. I was like, I want the skinny margarita. He goes, well, all of our margaritas are skinny because they're all made with agave. And you know, they all start talking about. And I'm just like, really, I don't care about agave. I just want you to tell me it's 100 calories, okay?
Starting point is 00:56:05 And just give me the damn margarita. You're like, I actually don't care if it isn't. I don't care. Yeah, and bring it to me. That's, yeah. I get so irritated when they're like, well, all of our syrups are natural. Are they really, though? I don't know, nor do I care.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Oh, yeah. you're like to get irritated like yes at coffee shops that are too coffee shopping yes i can't that's why i stick to starbucks listen there's a reason why you stick to classics like starbucks like i don't want like i i'm sorry i have diabetes and i can't have simple syrup that has sugar in it and it's like do you have sweetener oh we only have honey and i'm like honey boo boo-boo child i can't have honey yeah like so i need some stevia or splenda give me the stuff that's going to give me some disease because like I can't have other stuff but it's it's so annoying no I totally the like snooty coffee shops oh I can't handle it I don't even like I'm not even I don't want to say some of
Starting point is 00:56:59 the snooty in Nashville but there are some coffee shops in Nashville I just I stick to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts um I really miss Tim Hortons from Canada I do like there's a place called the perch they have good coffee because they have sugar free vanilla and then I like bongo I like um Fido coffee. I don't even know. But they all have sugar-free vanilla. Oh. So, anyways.
Starting point is 00:57:24 I like how passionate you are about coffee. I'm very passionate about coffee. I like it. I don't like boozy coffee. No, me either. And I don't even like the taste of it. No. It's too much.
Starting point is 00:57:34 And I don't need the little feather or whatever. Give me a cure egg and some sugar-free stuff. You can say shit. Shit. You're allowed. You're allowed. You're allowed. You're allowed, especially on this podcast.
Starting point is 00:57:45 Okay, we're going to get to some questions from. Your fans. The fans. The fans. I loved this question. Marissa. Marissa. Well, her name is like Maris 207, but then her ad is Marissa Molanaro.
Starting point is 00:58:01 I would just like to know if she was born a badass or if there's some sort of class she took. If so, sign me up. Yeah, have you always been like? I've always been crazy. Me too, but it took me a long time to like get to know myself and be a bit of a badass because I was like really. shy and weird through my years. It's so funny because, like, looking back, I was like, I was that weird kid. And then looking back, I was like...
Starting point is 00:58:25 You were the confident kid, probably. I was the confident kid. Like, I remember, I'll never forget this. I, another story. I was in public school. This podcast is four stories. I was in public school, and I saw this picture of, I think it was Ann Hathaway on the front of Vogue, and she had, like, this posh haircut.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Her hair was, like, one inch long. My hair was super long, and I was like, I want to cut all my hair. And I was in, I think, 5th grade when I wanted to do this. And everybody called me a boy. You know, kids are such assholes. They're the worst. Like, they were so mean to me. Like, they were like, oh, she's a boy.
Starting point is 00:59:02 Rachel looks like a boy, blah, blah. And I wore, like, cool barrettes in my hair. And, like, my hair was like, I spiked it up and made it super cool. Yeah. And now, looking back, it probably looked really awful. But you felt it. But I felt it. And I loved it.
Starting point is 00:59:14 And I was like, you know what? I am a badass. Like, I was a little badass kid. I love that. And I had so much confidence. Like, I was a part of this gymnastics. I was, like, in, you know, like one of those gymnastics teams, whatever. Not anything professional, but just like a gym.
Starting point is 00:59:27 And I remember seeing a picture that my mom found. And all these girls are, like, in their two pieces with, like, their cute little stomachs. And I was the kid on the side and the one piece with my belly, like, just, like, letting it pop out. Yes. Like, not giving a care in the world. And I said, that's what queens do. That is my spirit animal, my younger self. Wow.
Starting point is 00:59:44 Like, it's just true. That says something. If your younger self is your spirit animal. Yeah, it's like, it's, like, I feel like any time I get, like, super, like, insecure about what I'm wearing or how I look, I'm like, I want to have, like, I want to think, like, little Rachel. Yeah. How did my, how did Rachel, like, when I was a little munchkin? Yeah. Like, and so, but yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:03 That's awesome. I'm going to start channeling your younger self. I want to be little Rachel today. That's awesome. Hannah Mayer, what was the toughest obstacle she's faced to get to where she is now? I touched on this a little earlier, but I think the biggest obstacle is comparing yourself and just really letting the success of other people
Starting point is 01:00:30 affect your just view on what your plan is. And I think the biggest thing that I've learned in this career is everybody's path is different. And that's okay. I mean, you might be... It would be boring if everybody was insane. Yeah, it would. And it's like, everybody's unique in their own way.
Starting point is 01:00:51 And I know that's... But there's a reason why everybody talks about that because it's so true. And I think that's the biggest obstacle that I had to overcome. But I'm, like, so, like, confident in this great space now that, like, it's just so awesome. It's like, we all have our different paths, and that's amazing. Well, you're on the right one, clearly. Thank you. Jordan Quick, went to a concert of hers in Great Falls, Montana.
Starting point is 01:01:15 that my boyfriend was not excited about and after he left he absolutely loved her we always jammed to lonely call in the car such an awesome girl my only question is when can she come back I hope I come back soon and I'm so glad your boyfriend liked my music that's cute
Starting point is 01:01:29 so I do these after show meet and greets and Josh said that his favorite people that come to meet me are like the four year old men that don't have a wife with them they're just like who is this girl I like her and he's like that makes me laugh every time that is funny but says a lot about your music You speak to all genders.
Starting point is 01:01:48 I'm very thankful. Buy a single and come meet me and me hug. How, so you do meet and greets after like. Yeah, after every show most of the time. Oh, that's cool. Like just for like an hour or something? Until like the next person starts. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:02:02 Paige wants to know what do you do to stay grounded and so humble in the crazy music business? My family and I just couldn't imagine being anything else. I have, if you meet Reba or Blake or these big artists, none of them act entitled at all. Yeah. So why in the hell should we act entitled? Right. And my thing is, is like, God's given us this gift to be a light. And I, it's, but it's easy.
Starting point is 01:02:32 It's easy to get caught up in yourself and what you don't have. But when you stay, like you were talking about writing thankful, like things that you're thankful for every day. When you stay in a thankful mindset, it's hard. to think not to like to live in this mindset of oh i want this or i need this right um but it's all about re-triggering your brain to like think that way yeah which it's it's sad how hard that is and that it's a challenge but like that i mean but everybody should do it every day oh every day and it's just like a simple little like set even a little reminder on your phone you know like what are you thankful for i always say josh oh that you guys you little cuties he's so
Starting point is 01:03:12 true that's all how am i like how old is he he's 27 okay great age is a good age um sarah beth wants to know what is her long-term goal with being a woman with a voice one of my favorite artist she is my favorite artist um is dolly parton and the reason why i love dolly so much is more than just an artist she's somebody who's made a difference in the world and you know she has so many other things that she does besides music and that's that I want to do in life like of course music is my first love but I want to be somebody who is a good person and leaves a stamp of of light in this world and at the end of the day all of this is going to leave and we're going to be gone and what did we leave behind you know and that's and that's what
Starting point is 01:04:01 I think about every day like am I am I being a servant like I want to always live with a servant's heart I want to always make somebody feel great about themselves like I would never want to leave a room and somebody be like, ugh, who is that girl? You know? And that's another thing about re-triggering your bang, because it's hard when you are in the spotlight, because sometimes you just have bad days. Yes.
Starting point is 01:04:20 And, like, I was having this awful day, and I went to go work out, and remember somebody asked to take a picture with me, and I was like, ugh, like, I just don't, because I just was not feeling good that day. Yeah, which is allowed. But, which is allowed, you know. And I used to not have, like, I was like,
Starting point is 01:04:36 who would ever be me to a thing? Right. But some people, everybody's human. Yeah, exactly. I, but I took the picture and like, and then I was just like, I re-trick my brain to think, I'm so thankful for that person because if I didn't have them, I wouldn't be working and I wouldn't be doing what I love. But it's just so easy, you know. My last question is from me.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Oh, yes. Did you hear about the woman who couldn't find a singing partner? What? She had to buy a duet yourself kit. That's actually, is that a joke? Yeah. Okay, that was good. I was super confused
Starting point is 01:05:10 I was like what I was like did I not hear about like a funny story that was I always try and end my podcast with a joke but I try to make it like a question so that it throws you off which it does and it's like it totally did but then I think it ruins it
Starting point is 01:05:23 because then you don't think the joke's that funny because you're like really thinking about I'm the worst at telling jokes too and Josh Josh is the same way like he tells these jokes and I don't think they're funny and then or I'll get them later and then I'll start laughing he's like what are you laughing
Starting point is 01:05:38 I was like, move that joke yesterday. I finally got it. That's like my owl joke I always try and get people with, but it never, it like rarely lands. I did it with Chris Harrison. I was like, oh, like a mutual friend told me that you remind them of an owl. And all I want him to say is who, so that he sounds like an owl. But people are like, what? Who said that?
Starting point is 01:06:00 Or they don't even say here. They're like, what? Where did you hear that from? And I'm like, you're not telling the joke right. Yeah. Or I always mess up the orange you didn't. Glad I didn't say banana or whatever. I screw that one up, too.
Starting point is 01:06:11 I always said orange, and then I was like, banana, and then I was like banana. Oh. But I'm wrong. Wait, tell the joke in case people don't know it. Okay, so you go knock, knock. Who's there? Orange. Knock knock.
Starting point is 01:06:23 Oh, yeah. Who's there? Orange. Orange who? Knock, knock. Who's there? Banana. Banana who?
Starting point is 01:06:29 Aren't you glad I didn't say banana? Huh. That's the joke. But that doesn't make sense. Wait. See, I just kept up. It. I was like, wait a second.
Starting point is 01:06:38 it wrong again what see I told you I'm the worst jokes on my god that's amazing I'm really glad you just blew that okay well now all of y'all can listen go just Google the real way to do it I'm the shittiest joke yeah oh that's amazing
Starting point is 01:06:55 okay let's end this by telling everybody where they can find you yes my Instagram and Twitter and all that is Raylan official and actually wait I think it's Raylan on Twitter now you don't know I finally got it. I finally got my name.
Starting point is 01:07:09 This girl named Raylan had a forever. Oh, damn you, really. But, yeah, so follow me. I am, I also have an awesome YouTube series out right now. Oh, yes, I had that in my notes. Raylan, Raylan in real life, and it's just basically, like, I'm vlogging, doing more of that. Some raw moments. Raw moments of me with my makeup on.
Starting point is 01:07:27 I love it. And just go check that out, and yeah, it's going to be awesome. That's amazing. And can people do anything with the, how you're a spokesperson with the, is it, Novo? No. Yes, and you can go, I mean, you can give on Marilin Diabetes Fund. Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:43 And it's on my website. Okay, perfect. And if you want to give towards that, and we pick every year where we send them money. And, I mean, it's definitely going towards really great cause. That's amazing. I'm very pumped about it. I'm very pumped for you in general. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Thank you so much for coming on the podcast and sharing your stories. And you're just a light. Oh, thank you. You're so sweet. You're a light. We need to go on a double date soon. I would love to. I would love that.
Starting point is 01:08:05 You just tell us when and we'll make it happen. It would be fun. We could do a triple date with Russell and Kaylee. Oh, hell, yeah. Yeah. We'll do it. We'll do the damn thing. I'm Caitlin Bristol.
