Episode Date: October 14, 2021

The King and Queen of Paradise are gracing us with their presence to catch us up on what life has been like since they left the beach. Joe and Serena are spilling the deets on when they plan ...to move in together (and where), what it was like watching the show back as a couple, and what has surprised them most about the other since entering the real world. Kaitlyn asks a question we all had while watching that beautiful engagement: how was Serena not sweating her butt off?! Or, was she? Serena fills us in on what we didn’t get to see in the Bachelor in Paradise finale. We wrap with the Newly-Engaged Game, because these cuties aren’t newlyweds just yet. Even with one-half of this couple struggling with a sinus infection, they truly are everything you saw on screen and more!  BEAM - If you want to sleep better and save 35% off your first month, head to beamorganics.com/offthevine.  CHINET - Chinet Brand makes premium disposable tableware for all of life’s gatherings. Starting point is 00:02:22 and hear what you have to say about anything Bachelor. Let's shake it up some more. Here's Caitlin. Welcome to Great Therapy. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. Vino's, I just had to bring it full circle for everyone. We started out the season's Paradise Recaps with grocery store, Joe, and after watching him pretty much Gary the entire season,
Starting point is 00:02:44 he is back to talk about it all with his new fiancé, Serena. I asked them all of the things we've been dying to know, including how freaking hot it was, on the day they got engaged. How on earth was Serena not sweating? She must have gotten those laxatives from Kelsey's smothered a monerle face. These two are literally the cutest humans,
Starting point is 00:03:02 you guys, just smiling the entire time, and you can tell they're just head over heels for each other. And now I present to you with great honor, the king and queen of paradise. Take off your sunglasses. I was just going to say the same thing. What's with the shades? Look, they look like mom.
Starting point is 00:03:22 He's sick, and the reason that I'm wearing the shades is because Serena said my eyes look really bad because I'm not the wording I used. He said, I'm sick, and I said, I can know, I can tell by your eyes, and he got, he got worried. Wait, why are you, how are you sick? Do you have the COVID? No, I don't have COVID. I just have a cold, you know, sinus infection. But, so, you know, a disclaimer to all your listeners, your lovely listeners, if I come off a little raspy, it's not because I don't love you guys. It's just because I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Fine. Raspi voices are sexy. All right. Let's fucking do this. Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of was when Phoebe got the Raspi voice. Yes, it's like a thing. People want the Raspi voice, and then you sing with it, and you sound all like Raspi and like Miley Cyrus-ish. Like you just smoke a pack of cigarettes and had a shot of whiskey.
Starting point is 00:04:11 It's great. Yeah, very hot. Anyways, how are you guys? You're not in the same city. That's too bad. Yeah, he left Toronto on Friday, so we're a long distance right now. You know what I've noticed that you did that I do, Serena, is when you take a shot, you hit the table first and then take it. Always.
Starting point is 00:04:29 I wonder maybe, because all my friends do it, but I don't know, I haven't noticed if people do it in the States or not. Joe doesn't do it. Yeah. Oh, people do it in the States. It's not just a Canadian thing. So, like, you're supposed to chairs or cling the glasses, but what I've actually learned is the European way is just... What do you mean? Like, the whole time?
Starting point is 00:04:50 Like, just on the cheers. no oh i thought you meant like start to finish like shot to like make it super awkward no um do you know that cheerzine originated in germany because they were cheersing to make sure that they could splash their drink into other drinks and make sure it wasn't poisoned i did know that did what is it's frost frost isn't that what they say yeah yep yep yeah she gets it joe she gets it yes i didn't know that I'm glad I learned that today. Yeah, now it will never happen to you because you'll know the meaning behind it
Starting point is 00:05:25 and you'll make sure you cheers hard enough while making eye contact. Hey, Caitlin, where are you at? I'm in Nashville. Okay, so you and Jason are together. Finally, yes, I too, we live together and I too feel like I know what it's like to do long distance because we're never in the same friggin city.
Starting point is 00:05:42 It's like, okay, it's not nice when you're in the honeymoon phase because you want to spend all your time together, but it is nice when you're like, oh, we get to miss each other still. and it's like still this exciting thing of feeling like you're never in the same city it's quite exciting I'm glad you said that because I said that yesterday to Serena on the phone last night yeah and sorry last night we're long disdicions and he goes I just like think it's going to be so great to like always miss you or like something you said something along those lines I was like what the hell does that mean joe yeah I didn't articulate it um well the thing is Joe you set yourself up for failure here because we all know that
Starting point is 00:06:18 where you live is going to be a big deal in a relationship. So now I'm sure this is like the main question you get asked, but where are you two? What is the plan? Like obviously you're not just going to jump into moving in together, even though you're engaged, but it's Bachelor World. Maybe you are. I don't know. But what do you guys talk about?
Starting point is 00:06:33 Sure. Well, that was just a wonderful segue into a very difficult question. I thought so. I thought so. It was great. So, Serena, do you want to go or do you want me to take the lead on this one? You can take this one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I'd love to. You know, I think we're both on the same page as we live very close to each other as far as by plane, right? It's an hour to and from Chicago to Toronto. So my lease is up in April. We plan on going back and forth until the spring and then we plan on moving in together. We are currently between three cities, Chicago, Toronto, and New York possibly. New York seems to be a happy medium. I think there was a little confusion with people saying that.
Starting point is 00:07:18 like the only reason, like the reason that Kendall and I had broken up was because she wouldn't move to Chicago. That necessary, that wasn't like the only reason and it was more, you know, we're a team and we have to, you know, if things come up, you know, shit happens. If I need to be in Toronto for a few years because something happened with Serena, you know, I have to make that. Sacrifice, compromise. Yeah, compromise. So. Yeah, I'm really, I'm really off. Birds are hard. Yeah, words are not my strong suit today. that's okay you're stuffy but we are i think we are on the same page we've been talking about this pretty much since we started taking our relationship serious so yeah there is something to be said
Starting point is 00:08:00 about that next level of being engaged when you're not just dating anymore you take the relationship that much more seriously and think about these things and talk about these things and obviously that's going to be like the foundation that you start on which is really great and i i i mean at the end of the day, if you're meant to be with someone, you're going to be with them. Clearly, there was obviously reasons for everything else. And it worked out the way it's supposed to because you were a freaking king and queen of paradise and of like Bachelor Nation's eyes. Everybody loves you to as a couple. You're so cute. You're everybody's favorite to watch. I know that who was it. Becca was telling me that when you guys were on the beach, like everyone thought it was going to be like the
Starting point is 00:08:40 Noah show because the cameras were always following them. Did you guys know you're going to carry the whole season or was that a surprise to you when you were watching it back? I definitely did not know. I think I was very much in our own little world of like, yeah, we're just here. We're living on the beach. I don't really think that far ahead when it comes to all that stuff. I'm just like, yeah, we're dating. Like, Joe thinks more far ahead. Like, he is like a forward thinker for sure, whereas I'm more like an in the moment. And then I remember when we were reflecting back on our experience, especially Joe, I was like, wow, a lot of stuff happened and you were in a lot of it and you know we might see ourselves on camera
Starting point is 00:09:20 quite a bit when we watch all this back but you never know until you know you know what I mean it's so true I that's like my biggest fear I'm like barely you know a part of I'm like hosting but I'm not like in every date and on the show but I'm still so scared about what we're gonna show because I tend to say stupid shit all the time and I'm always like what little part are you gonna sneak in there where I just look like an idiot but you guys have obviously much more of a some screen time here and it was just so it was so enjoyable to watch joe you were so funny like leading the charge on so many things and like you guys are just so cute and enjoyable to watch but it's funny because i feel like bachelor nation is so loyal it's so nice to have that many people
Starting point is 00:10:03 rooting for you but it's also a lot of pressure do you are you already getting the questions of like when's the wedding oh yeah i mean i posted a photo of serena on my instagram where it was a the photo that we took a few weeks prior and she didn't have her ring yet, and people are like, where's the ring? Like, why? Like, what happened? Why is it on the wrong hand? You're like, it's a mirrored image, okay? Everybody calm down.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Yes. Oh, my gosh. Anytime I post a story and it's a mirrored image, it looks like it's my left hand, but it's actually my right, and I'll get the like, where's the ring? Joe's not in Toronto anymore? What happened? And I mean, it's sweet that everyone is so invested in our relationship. But for anyone listening, I can
Starting point is 00:10:44 I can assure you we're still together. That's so funny. Yeah, they're just hilarious people because they are so sweet and they care so much but sometimes it can come across it's like they care a little too much and you're like back up. My rings on my finger.
Starting point is 00:10:58 It's a mirror. You have to explain yourself constantly but yeah, they're funny. Okay, I know it feels like it was just summer but you know what? Got to tell you, the holidays are approaching quickly. And one thing I of course look forward to when it comes to the holiday season
Starting point is 00:11:11 is getting to spend more time with the people I love whether that's just having friends visiting here in Nashville or going up to Canada or seeing Jay's family. One thing that always is a part of our get-togeth is truly no matter where they are or who they're with is some delicious food and beverages, which is why I always love to have Chinette brand on hand or to recommend to whoever is hosting. Now back to off-the-vine grape therapy.
Starting point is 00:13:37 How did you guys do it in high? Did you get happy couples weekends or did you like throw on disguises? Like I know Becca and Thomas did. Like how did you guys deal with the being in hiding? Well, we, so we did get happy couple weekends, which is really nice. And you could just chill out and you go to a really great house in L.A. So that was, that's always fun. But we did, we did hang out right after the show, which I thought was pretty important.
Starting point is 00:14:06 You know, we just had gotten engaged. And there's still a lot of unknown. like we really haven't spent too much time off camera together so we hung out for like 10 days right after the show and got caught the first day which was great yeah which was great real sneaky and then after that I don't think we left my apartment we just never left and we just hung out in quarantine right serena yeah we were basically back in quarantine which being Canadian I feel like I've been in quarantine now for like 10 years but yeah I mean I think it was good because we definitely couple sneaky visits. Like he came to
Starting point is 00:14:42 Toronto one time before the finale and then was obviously here for the finale to meet my family and I went to Chicago a couple times and we basically just stayed inside the entire time or like in the car or like at his parents' house or my parents' house. But because we were engaged it was
Starting point is 00:14:57 important for us to like meet each other's families and like our close friends as much as possible because you know they're big parts of our lives and to take that huge step and it's like this is my strength. Ranger fiancé that you've never met before is a little bizarre, so. But yeah, I was going to see that because obviously, I don't know if it's a Canadian
Starting point is 00:15:20 thing or it's just I'm close with my family, but I feel like every one of my Canadian friends are so close to their family and meeting each other's family. Like, did your parents even think there was a chance or your whole family thinking there's a chance that you'd get engaged on the show or were you like, I'm just going to go have fun? I mean, I think they thought there was a good chance I came home in a serious relationship, especially once I was gone for a little bit of time. They were like, ah, she's not going to stay there unless she's interested in someone. But I really don't think they thought that I was going to come back engaged.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I mean, it's a very, like, big decision in such a short amount of time. And it's hard to understand unless you've gone through it. And I'm a very logical person, as is Joe. So, like, a lot of his family and friends had a similar. reaction of like oh my god you're engaged we never thought when we said goodbye to you you were going to be humming back well neither did i don't think you did either like neither of us i think went to the beach no i would say it's probably different for you katelyn as some of that was the lead like i think once you take that role you're you know you're getting engaged at the end yeah but no
Starting point is 00:16:26 i mean i definitely didn't i didn't think i was going to leave in a relationship yeah it it was kind of, I feel like, Joe, you went and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to speak for you, but I feel like you went in just being like, could this work? Like, you're kind of like, that'd be great if it did, but it could it? I don't know. Like, let's go and see. I would say that's very correct. Like, that was my attitude. But you did have Serena on the brain. Did you not? I always have Serena on the brain, but. Good answer. Good answer, babe. I did. I did. She was somebody that I was interested in. I remember watching her on Matt James's season and seeing, her limo entrance and thinking like,
Starting point is 00:17:04 ah, she's cute. I think she's really attractive and she just seems like somebody that I would get along with. And yeah, I mean, I couldn't have been more accurate because we got engaged. Yeah, that's really sweet.
Starting point is 00:17:21 So, okay, so you got engaged, you hung out for 10 days straight. First of all, tell me how you got caught. Did somebody, like, see you guys together or something? Joe, do you want to tell the story? So at my gym, you're not supposed to, you know what, I'm an idiot. We were walking around, somebody took a photo, and we got caught, you know, stupid. It was stupid.
Starting point is 00:17:41 It was pretty much like it just was not, it was a very idiotic thing to do by myself. You learned your lesson and you stayed quarantine then after that. So in those days of no cameras, being engaged, really getting to know each other, I'm sure you had some pretty deep conversations and really like funny moments. what is something that really stands out from that time together that you're like this is really going to work like something memorable serena oh that's good that's a great question that's a great question i think it was the fact that every day we were doing basically the exact same thing which was pretty much nothing and every morning we would wake up and joe would wake up
Starting point is 00:18:27 first with like a bazillion watts of energy and I'm not a morning person and he'd wake up and he'd jump around and we'd get in the car and we'd go get coffee and we pretty much did that every morning for 10 days and even on the 10th day I was like I am still so happy to be here
Starting point is 00:18:43 so happy to wake up with him so excited just go get coffee with him and we have basically been in quarantine for 10 days now I know that's nothing and it's still like the honeymoon phase but I remember for me leaving thinking back on that and being like wow like I'm I'm just, it's like the mundane things like we just love doing together and just make me so happy.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And I think that's important. Like when you're doing nothing and you still just really cherish each other's company. That's so true. Joe, you agree. I completely agree. And for me, I think it just was something. It just felt right. And I know that's kind of like a cop out to be like, oh, it just felt right.
Starting point is 00:19:21 But like it was just always so easy. It felt like Serena and I have known each other. for years and years, and we have this bond, this friendship that I didn't expect to have with anyone, and that it happened so fast, it took me by surprise, but everything has just been wonderful and easy, and it's crazy. Yeah, just very effortless, very smooth, which you wouldn't, I think both of us expected and kind of hope for that, but there's always that, like, we've never done this, so you don't really know, like, we've only dated on the beach, we've never hung out outside of
Starting point is 00:19:56 paradise like this is new territory we think it's going to go well but like i'm sure they'll be like a couple obstacles and so far it's just been so smooth and so effortless and it was just leaving chicago i think we both felt super comforted by that yeah i think there's always you know you try to date somebody if you spend 10 days straight with somebody without like all the hoopla of the tv and everything like if you were just spending time in an apartment for 10 days you either get annoyed or you're like oh gosh like kind of questioning some things like if you leave 10 days together being like I don't want to leave or that felt really good that's everything I thought it would be it was just easy you're like okay that means something like it's I know you're like
Starting point is 00:20:37 of course and you're in the honeymoon face but still spending 10 days straight with someone it's like taking a road trip with someone or you know figuring out how people travel like you you find out very quickly and you can you can tell after 10 days if you think that's going work for you or not yeah i agree i think people put too much weight behind falling in love like it's not like people think like oh you have it it needs to be like this timeline like it could happen like that um and yeah road trip makes me think of when harry met sally and that's just one you know that's a great it's the perfect love story love story and that happened very quick so yeah no i agree i mean and i'd say this all the time we probably all say the same thing in in bachelorland
Starting point is 00:21:19 the serious level that you're taking the relationship and talking about the important things and the time that you're spending and like knowing that there's a ring involved like you really take all these necessary steps to get there in the relationship and the fact that you both chose to get engaged at the end of it like you're just like this is my person like that's it's okay for it to happen fast if it's okay if you have a long ass engagement and don't get married for years like it's everything can be on your own timeline and just don't don't feel pressure from, you know, everyone else because you will feel the pressure, but obviously don't let it affect you, which I think you too will be pretty good at.
Starting point is 00:21:56 I think so. Yeah, I think so. We're on the same page about what we want in terms of life and timeline and all that. So that makes it pretty easy. We just kind of focus on our goals, our timeline, the steps that we want to take next in the relationship. And yeah. Perfect. And I just have to praise you, Serena.
Starting point is 00:22:14 I know everybody is for this, but just look, I like to think I'm not a good. jealous psychopath, but if Jason's ex, like, showed up in my moment, I wouldn't be like, are you okay, Jason? I'd be like, you fucking let her talk? Joe, you were so sweet about it. You're like, you're okay. Like, you
Starting point is 00:22:35 had empathy for the situation. We all know it's TV too, so there's certain other factors involved and whatnot. But Serena, the fact that you asked Joe, if he was okay, melted everybody's hearts. I was going to say America's, but also Canada's. And it was just like the perfect reaction that you didn't even probably realize in the moment that you had done something right.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Like you were just, it was your natural reaction to ask him if he was okay. And it was so sweet. How did you not like even just clench a fist or like, you were just so genuine in that moment. I was like, wow, impressive. I mean, I think it was definitely shock about the whole situation. Honestly, a small part of me felt like something had happened when I got down there. because I had been waiting for a while before I finally walked down. And I think I made a joke.
Starting point is 00:23:24 I was like, is Joe freaking out or something? Like, let's get this show on the road. Like, I'm ready to leave with him. Yeah. And then when I got down there, I was giving my speech. And he was obviously, like, very engaged and smiling. But I just had this sense of, like, something was a little bit off with him. And I was like, maybe he's just overheated.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Like, I don't know. Um, so when he said that it happened, it almost like was like, ah, okay. This is, I was right. Like, something was a little off here. and then I don't know I it was hard I think it was like the shock of it all like once it wore off I was kind of like okay yeah like the frustration of it all set in a little bit but in the moment I was just like this is a huge moment for us are you okay because I'm sure this affected you in some way I didn't have to live that you did and he seemed okay he seemed steady about the whole thing so I was like all right you know what we can talk about this later yeah this is a huge moment for us I just want to focus on it and move forward and and you're okay, I'm okay, let's just... I just think that's... I need to chime in here for a sec.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Yeah, chime in, Joe. Thank you. I have to say that that didn't affect me at all. And like me being, Serena coming down and seeing me a little off was me a nervous wreck because I was about to propose. Like, well, you know, because that... Yes, that's true. At the time, I thought it was that, but now knowing it was...
Starting point is 00:24:48 And like, I had never, you know, I had never proposed to anyone before. And it was just a very, I remember just being like so nervous. I wasn't sure if she was going to say yes. I was like hoping that this wouldn't screw the relationship up. So I was like, what the hell am I doing? But it felt right. It felt romantic.
Starting point is 00:25:09 And I was panicking. Yeah. I mean, that makes sense. Yeah, I mean. I feel like everyone, if you're about to have this life changing decision, you should be. sweating a little bit, but I'll tell you who wasn't sweating was Serena. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Everyone was dripping and drenched sweating and it looked so hot there and I, if I'm outside in the heat for five minutes, I always call myself a drowned rat. I don't look cute at all and you were just freaking glowing like a little glowing bitch in the sun and not phased at all.
Starting point is 00:25:42 No, I was sweating. I remember Joe went to pick me up and I was like, don't touch my body. I am sweating so much under this dress. Like my face somehow just like managed to like survive for the time that we were on that platform. But like my, no, I'm not going to give you the dirty details. I was sweating and it was gross. And they handed us both towels when we got up to the tree house area,
Starting point is 00:26:07 and we had to make out at the end like all of us like the, because the show's over so everybody's got to make out and they had to keep getting the shot. So we're sweating so bad and we're making out. And it just got to the point where I was like, this is actually gross at this point. Joe and I were like, I love you, but I've never been more annoyed to make out with you than right now. And they didn't even use the shot.
Starting point is 00:26:32 So I was like, are you kidding? It was the saltiest makeout of all time. I was going to say that seems salty. And everyone was making out at the same time for the shot. Yeah, it was like all three couples like making out and they like panned it to Wells. And they probably were like, everyone just looks too disgusting and miserable. We can't use this.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Yeah, I mean, fair enough. It was like a bad high school party. That's what we were doing. Yeah. It's so funny. It's cool that there was three couples that got engaged. And I feel like all three couples that got engaged from the show are so solid. I love Kenny and Marissa.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I love Riley and Marissa. What did I say? You said Riley and Marissa, I think you missed Kenny and Mari. I think I said Kenny and Marissa. I meant Keni and Mari. Yeah, that's what I said. Kenny and Maris. But Riley and Marissa.
Starting point is 00:27:18 are so stinking cute like watching her from start to finish I was like I watched this woman grow like I watched their relationship blossom and I just feel like they're perfect for each other and I just like thought that way about all the couples like everyone just seemed like they took it at such a perfect pace and got to where they needed to be to really get engaged
Starting point is 00:27:40 and I feel like those are three solid couples that came out of that I was under the impression that this interview was just going to be about us So I don't really know how I feel about it. No, I agree. No, I'm joking. Obviously, I'm joking, okay? Would you have gotten games to somebody who is serious like that? But no, I do.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Yeah, I actually, and I'm a pessimist to begin with in life, you know. But I truly believe that all couples, all three couples, will last. And I would love to be the only couple that does last because then it's like, ha ha but yeah but i think they all i think it's all real love and i really think they're all gonna last personally serena i don't know what you think yeah no it was cool because like we're friends with all of them obviously and we got to see their relationships but then you just get to see a whole other layer of it watching it back yeah and like getting to watch like the progression and all the obstacles that everyone went through and like the roller coaster of emotions because like you're
Starting point is 00:28:39 also pretty consumed with your relationship when you're on the beach it was like wow like by the end all three proposals I feel like made sense like I could I understood how obviously me and Joe got there but then watching Morrison Riley and watching Kenny and Mari I'm like yes I can see how they got there I can see what they overcome the conversations they had the
Starting point is 00:28:58 you know the love that they have for each other so yeah it was cool it's kind of fun to watch it all back seeing everyone else like you know all the stuff that you didn't see was there things that we didn't see as viewers where you're like damn but I wish they aired that oh yeah
Starting point is 00:29:12 Joe probably has about like 10 one-liners. He was mad to make the cut. Yeah, I had a few conversations with Wells that I'm really disappointed that it made the show. But I'll tell you what, watching it back and watching like, you know, you think like there's going to be like, how's this going to go? What's the edit going to be like? But watching Serena and my relationship grow on the show is really exactly how it went. Like, it's crazy. it's like that like that was everything and that's really what it was so that was comforting and that was also just like we were talking about it yesterday like we get to watch this back in 10 years 15 years isn't that great I think that's so romantic because it because like okay for example thinking back to when I was engaged to Sean from the Bachelorette I was like and we will never watch this again and this is toxic toxic stuff this bad
Starting point is 00:30:11 energy no thank you and then uh you know with jason certain things that we have recorded we have our proposal recorded and all this and i'm like i can't wait to watch this back and listen to this in 10 years and because you're what what your relationship and how it was portrayed was true to how it was to you two that's going to be such a special memory to always be able to watch back yeah it will be really nice it's definitely something special that we have that i mean most people don't get to watch their entire relationship on television and share with all their family and friends. So there's pros and cons, but for the most part, I think it's really special that we could like pull up our engagement anytime and have those memories. Yeah, I think so too. I think it's really sweet.

You just add water, shake and sip. When it comes to incorporating something new into my day, I really need it to be easy and convenient or else it's just not going to stick with me. And of course, I ask for most memorable moments and when you're getting to know each other, but what's such a classic interview question I'm about to ask, but like what has surprised you the most about each other? Joe, you want to take it away? I want to answer this honestly.
Starting point is 00:33:57 what a like an incredible human she actually is yeah i really it just it it shocks me every day i'm serious and i'm like yeah tell myself every day like wow you you got really lucky here oh joe that's so sweet oh you know at times i could be a sweet guy whatever what could i say you know well it's always nice I love seeing different elements of people when they're like you know you're funny and you're sarcastic and you make jokes
Starting point is 00:34:30 and then you can be serious and sweet and I love that and that's really so nice to hear you say that about her I'm sure Serena he's probably told you that before but I see the smile on your face no it's very nice that's sweet
Starting point is 00:34:43 it's very sweet well how am I supposed to talk that Joe how am I supposed to talk about that now Welcome to the podcast world baby geez you're never going first again Yeah, that's what you say, I got this one, and you go first. Yeah, I've got this one from now on. I think we obviously get to see how we interact with each other's, like, friends and stuff on the beach, but then watching Joe in the, like, outside world with his people, like, his family and his friends and me, he is such a, like, caring, thoughtful, loyal person to the people in his life.
Starting point is 00:35:20 and I just see the way he treats like his best friends and the way he treats his brother and his parents and me like he is constantly thinking about the people that he loves and yeah I just I love that about you.
Starting point is 00:35:34 I think mine was a little my was a little sweeter but I'll take that. Okay, well I'll get you next time. You guys are like cuting me out right now I can't even handle it. See my brain goes what's something that surprised you?
Starting point is 00:35:46 I thought it was going to be like well she doesn't put the seat up when it's my turn to pee and like we got those ones too. Very romantic and I'm really happy about it and that's I really like that. What do you think the biggest changes in your relationship since Paradise? Honestly, I don't know because I would say like this environment has changed. So there's been shifts in like the structure of our relationship. But like the way we interact with each other like we still are always very playful and like laughing.
Starting point is 00:36:20 And I just think we're such a good team. I guess the change would be that we've just become a stronger couple and, like, a better team as we've gotten to know each other more. And, like, finding out the ways that we're similar and then, like, the ways that we can balance each other out because we're different. But I don't know. Why are you smiling? You hear that people? We're even better than you thought. I'm like, gosh, stop being so perfect.
Starting point is 00:36:43 No, I mean, yeah, we're just per. I mean, we're part. I mean, what can I say? We're perfect. Perfect. Yeah. I agree. I think we're both very similar in the way we communicate. And I think because of that, our relationship's been very open, honest. We talk about how we feel, when we feel, the way we feel,
Starting point is 00:37:03 and it's just made everything so much easier. And so, yeah, I mean, I agree. It's been really just easy. In past relationships before bachelor life, did you always see yourself as a good communicator about your feelings, or did it take the show to really bring out that side of you? Oh, I mean, yeah. I think I'll answer, but I think your answer is going to be probably similar to mine.
Starting point is 00:37:29 I have always valued communication. I've always recognized it as an integral part of a relationship and I've always, like, made a conscious effort to try to be a good communicator, but I struggle when it, like I would say I'm articulate in communicating, but I'm not
Starting point is 00:37:45 good at communicating my feelings. and that is the struggle in the relationship. Like, I have great friendships and all of that, and I feel comfortable talking honestly, but when it comes to talking about my feelings and being vulnerable, I have my whole life struggled with that. And the show, both seasons, like, I remember, like, it was a challenge on my first season. Like, producers will attest to this. Like, it was a battle.
Starting point is 00:38:11 And I wanted to. I just, it was so unnatural and uncomfortable for me. It wasn't like I was trying to make it difficult. just couldn't do it and it literally took two seasons and you see me in the finale just like crying from happiness of like I feel like I have never been able to like open up about my feelings and be this vulnerable and in my whole life like I fully will give that to the show of like they really taught me how to do that and brought it out of me and therapy like that too but but the show had like forced me to do it there you go cheers to that it's it's true
Starting point is 00:38:47 though it's I mean that's it's an incredible thing to do and to break have a breakthrough with it and to learn how to do that because it's only going to benefit your relationship I would say yeah yes yes the show definitely took that out of me yeah I would say it's also life experiences maturity but a hundred percent the show like even when I went on Becca's season like I never talked about my feelings with anyone I bottled everything up and yeah Yeah, the show pulled that out of me and made me feel okay about it. Because I just always was like, yeah, it's just how I feel is no one's business. It's mine and that's the bottom line. Then you're like, just kidding. The whole world cares about your feelings now and you're going to talk about them. But it really does. It just opens up a whole new like element to yourself that you didn't know was even there.
Starting point is 00:39:44 And it's a truly it's just. does nothing but benefit yourself in your relationship. So I love it. Okay, I have one quick newlywed game, newly engaged, obviously, game for you. And then I'll let you go, Joe, you are like shivering over there. You're not doing well. What? What?
Starting point is 00:39:59 Oh, are you? I have a chair that I have a chair that pivots. I'm pivoting. Oh, you're pivoting. He's just fidgeting. I mean, I'm definitely stuffed up that I talked about that. Oh, I thought you were like really struggling at one point. Like I thought you got the chills and like the, oh, okay, good.
Starting point is 00:40:14 I didn't want to keep you with your feeling. Listen, like I told you before, Caitlin, I will come on this podcast all the time. I will sit here for another three hours if you really want to keep going. I'd have to open up a bottle of wine for that. Okay. So this is obviously, everyone knows the newly wed game. This is newly engaged game. We'll see how well you got to know each other on the beach.
Starting point is 00:40:36 So each of you either grab a piece of paper or your phone, and you're both going to write down your answer, and then we're going to compare answers at the end. Let me know when you're ready. Ready? I'm ready. Ready? I'm ready. If your partner had five extra hours to spend in their day,
Starting point is 00:40:55 what would they use those five hours to do? Okay, ready? What, Joe, what do you think? No, wait! Wait, wait, he wrote down what I would do? Yeah, now, Serena, you have to guess what he said. So now, Serena, you have to guess what he said. So now, Serena, you have to guess what?
Starting point is 00:41:16 you think Joe said about you. Joe, you have to guess what Serena said about you. Okay. I would say she wrote for me. I would say, eat. Okay. Okay, I would say he wrote for me sleep. Okay, let's see what you guys said.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Do you say sleep? I put coffee and steam. Oh, and that's probably correct. Yeah, that is correct. That's what you would do. I know that's what you do. He would go get a coffee and go to the steam room. Not steam room.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Sona. I don't do the steam room. Well, you call it the. Yeah, but it's the sauna. Oh my gosh. You are Jason Tardick. He loves his coffee and steams or like saunas, whatever you want to call it. Always. Every day.
Starting point is 00:41:54 What do you have? Do you have one in like your building? My gym has one. I go all the time. Oh, that's nice. I'm going after this. Yeah, you got to get out the congestion. I get it.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Okay. Next question. If your partner had to choose an actor to play themselves in a movie, who would they choose? She giggled and started writing immediately. This is so easy. I don't know who I'm going to say, so I don't know what you're about to write.
Starting point is 00:42:21 I love this. Okay. Joe, what do you think Serena said for you? I mean, I think she answered the way everyone would answer, and that's George Clooney. George Clooney. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:35 He's obsessed with George Clooney. Just keep throwing it out there in the universe. It's how I'm aging, just like George. You're so George. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:45 who do you think what do you think joe wrote down serena i i have no idea maybe anna you're that chick from knives out think about it you definitely know this you're gonna you're gonna be shocked when i give you the answer give me a hint yeah a little hint royalty oh megam markle oh nice that's probably who i would have ended up i know too i would i love her i love her so much i totally feel that okay that's it those are good ones okay what is your part favorite junk food. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:19 You should, you shouldn't, I don't know if you're going to know this or not, but when I say it, you're going to be like, if you get it wrong, you're going to be like, oh. Not like favorite dessert. It's your favorite junk food. What you like to pick out. Same thing. No, no. You can't be that specific.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Yeah. Don't, don't overthink this one. Okay. Okay. Serena, what do you think, Joe? wrote down uh salt and vinegar chips is my favorite junk food what did you write yes you got it okay joe what do you think serena wrote down pita chips really no i wrote ice cream oh that's so unfair you eat ice cream every day how is it not ice cream but i love pita chips
Starting point is 00:44:09 i know but i don't know if i would count that as junk food you put those in your salad Yeah, I mean, I wasn't sure if those were, if that was considered junk food, but Stacey's, I like the Stacey's pizza chips, the crunchy ones. The Stacey's pizza chips. Those are good ones. Does Stacey send you some? Because I bet she would. Well, if Stacy, if you're listening to this, or a relative of yours is listening to this,
Starting point is 00:44:33 I would like some free pita chips because they're actually pretty expensive. The good stuff always is. Okay, what adjective would you use to describe you? Okay, Joe, what do you think Serena wrote down? For me, I'm constantly describing myself with all the adjectives. I would... Yeah, but how would I describe you? I would say charming.
Starting point is 00:45:04 Really? That's what... Man, we suck at this game. No, no, no. How I would describe myself. Oh, you, I put chaotic slash energetic. So, okay, so I think we didn't understand the assignment. You think that's how Joe would describe himself?
Starting point is 00:45:20 No, that's how I would describe Joe to his face all the time. And I would describe myself as charming and handsome. Oh, well, am I supposed to guess what? Oh, yeah. Serena, if you're not been playing this game, I mean, are you kidding me? Joe, you didn't know what an adjective was. I was going to put intuitive for you, and I totally go. I would not.
Starting point is 00:45:39 take that back. Intuitive? You'd think I would call myself intuitive? I don't know. This was a hard one. This was a hard one. Okay, I'm going to make this one really easy, okay? Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:55 What emoji best represents your partner? That's not an easy one. Caitlin, that's really hard. Yeah, it's a hard one. I have to draw the emoji. I'm not a great drawer. Well, that makes it even funnier. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:13 This is stressful. I don't know what O.G. I would use for both of you. For Serena, I would do the little angel. And then for Joe, I would do the chef. Like something to do with maybe a eggplant. Nice. Produce. I don't know if this, this, we're not getting.
Starting point is 00:46:39 this one. I'm just going to put it out there right now. We're not getting this one. And I'm going to have to describe to you and like show you the emoji because my drawing is not going to cut it. But I'm helping you too now because you're getting to learn you, you thought you knew everything about each other, but really I'm helping you just go to that deeper level of your relationship right now. Okay. What emoji do you think Serena drew? I would say for me, I would say a tomato. you think I put that's so specific a tomato I put the little boy that's like this
Starting point is 00:47:14 oh yeah this is my drawing okay that's good okay Serena what do you think Joe Drew I have no idea I mean maybe like the kissy like the winky kiss one like that no I did the girl that's like this Oh, that was kind of similar Like she's raising the roof or her hands
Starting point is 00:47:41 Me, I'm here Oh, yeah Me, oh okay You know what, do I do that? Play me for that one, that was just a stupid question Okay, last one, are you ready? Complete the sentence Not many people know
Starting point is 00:47:57 But my partner is really good at Huh, I'm trying to think Okay, I got one. I got one. I got one, too. I didn't know if I was going to make, I didn't know if I was going to make funny or not, but I didn't. Okay. Okay. Serena, complete the sentence for Joe. Not many people know it, but my partner, AKU, is really good at?
Starting point is 00:48:29 my partner is really good at organizing that oh what did you put i put what did you put no i i kept it i kept it no no no no no i put um smiling when you wake up oh that's so cute wow you had like way way nicer than i thought you were going to you're not a morning person and you smile when you wake up. You guys must be in love. I wake up and I'm like, yeah. That's how I know that we're in love because I am not a morning person and I'm like fine when he wakes me up. And like he does not wake me up nicely. Yeah, no, I wake her up every morning and I wake her up. I wake her up. I wake her up with the pillows. Pills jumping on me. Blasting like his phone in my ear. Like he he played like a YouTube video blasted it in my ear like 7 a.m. 1. That one morning. That one was.
Starting point is 00:49:29 was not cute. Yeah, that was funny. No. I'm with you on that one. Okay, not many people know it, but my partner is really good at. Joe, what do you think? Cooking. I almost put cooking and then I put ordering at restaurants because Joe always orders for both of us and he always picks the best thing on the menu. I like that. Do you have any dietary restrictions or are you like vegetarian or anything? Are you like whatever easy to please? No, she has a tree nut allergy. Yeah, I have a net allergy And then I try to not do like too much dairy Like I won't do like ice cream or heavy creams
Starting point is 00:50:05 Like there's like a little bit of cheese that's fine But I'm actually the exact same way Everybody always gets mad at me for this And all my listeners know this But I don't like ice cream Really? I'll only do dairy free ice cream Which is sad I know
Starting point is 00:50:19 But No I do that too I can get down with that What? He snores if he eats too much dairy So we've switched over to saying a random fact he snores yeah the game stop
Starting point is 00:50:30 we quit playing the game if he eats too much dairy he snores so I'm like we're going dairy phrase from only at night my gosh you guys are so cute he snores if he eats dairy oh I'm a little very couple already
Starting point is 00:50:45 oh my gosh well I'm so excited for you guys everyone's rooting for you and I'm so excited to see when you guys get to move in and actually be together because we're all loving your content right now and I think everyone's sad when you're not together.
