Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Hannah Dasher: Bologne sandwiches to a young Matthew McConaughey
Episode Date: November 2, 2021A woman whose personality might be larger than even her hair, H to the damn to the D, Hannah Dasher joins Kaitlyn for an interview that is packed full of big laughs by both. Hannah’s confid...ence and witty sense of humour is almost too much to handle as she catches Kaitlyn off guard with some of her hilarious responses and pokes fun at herself for all that she’s been through to get to where she is today - a “badass” female country artist says Rolling Stone. But some may know her by her cooking first before her singing. Her extremely popular cooking video series “Stand By Your Pan” on TikTok (filmed in the cutest of cute kitchens which she shares who it belongs to) dishes up the most delicious Southern-style recipes but that is not always what she was cooking and eating. There was a time she was living off of bologne and PB&J sandwiches as that is all she could afford while living in an attic on a mattress working towards her dreams, never giving up and prioritizing being able to pay her hardworking band. We learn she is a fraternal twin, if her accent really does get thicker after cocktail number 3, what she’d prefer to cook in her pan and what “dessert” would be her last meal… it’s one we’d all like to see added to every menu. Let's go.
Hey, ramen.
Ready for the show
Everyone's welcome
So come on in
Because OTV
It's about to begin
Hey
Welcome to Arthur Vine
I'm your host
Caitlin Bristow
I'm just all fired up
on life after my interview
with Miss Hannah Dasher
H to the damn D
A woman whose personality
is bigger than her hair
She is charismatic,
funny and
Damn does the woman know how to cook
Rolling Stone has referred to her
as a badass female
country artist and her voice is incredible
But it's her hilarious
cooking segment video
on TikTok called Stand By Your Pan that first caught my attention.
Okay, the recipes this lady cooks in the cutest kitchen I've ever seen in her little apron
and the LOL worthy little quirks and jokes she makes throat just make me hungry and makes me laugh.
She wasn't always slagging recipes on TikTok and making hit country music though.
There were tough times of no jobs living in an attic and off baloney sandwiches,
cleaning houses to be able to pay off her band.
She is so herself.
She's like your modern day Dolly Parton.
a frigging ball of fun and i cannot wait to try making some of her recipes we even talk about
how it's on my bucket list to go cook with her at her house we're going to make it happen you're
going to be licking your chop so make sure you've got a fresh glass of vino and um hannah wouldn't
want it to be a soft whore
feel free to tell me if the hair is out of place or something are you kidding me
well girl you're nothing is out of place on you
I feel like it's, do you sleep like this?
I feel like this is just who you are.
Oh, heaven.
Well, I live like I look.
That's a good way to put that.
But one of my wine drinking buddies, she's 85, doesn't look 85.
She looks like she's 65.
And her secret, she says, is sleep it on her head.
Like she doesn't sleep on her side.
Yeah, all her wrinkles.
I do that too, actually.
But I always wake up with, look, I can show you.
I have this.
Yes.
Oh, yeah.
Totally, me too.
Same.
That's what always hot on my head.
Yeah.
Because I try to just like sleep like this.
and I don't move, but then I get that big cowlick in the back of my head.
By the time I get to bed, I'm so daggum tired.
I just, my gosh.
What is a day in the life for you look like?
Oh, heavens.
One day is never the same as the other.
But lately it's, thank Lord I have an assistant biddy.
She's always running to the grocery store for me so that I can film a TikTok as soon
I get done with my right.
But I mean, it's always, I mean, I'm trying to squeeze in exercise where I can,
but not as much as I need to.
but I get up and have my coffee and my little vintage percolator and make time for Jesus and because the Lord knows I need the Lord and heavens and try to get caught up with emails and whatnot and go make music or make a video or do a conference call with Lord knows who.
It's so fun having every day be different like that.
I feel like I'm kind of the same way I wake up and I'm like, who do I get to talk to today?
Like the fact that I get to sit here and talk to you, you're like one of my favorite people on TikTok by the way.
Thank you for keeping up with me.
Oh, my gosh, you're standby, your pan.
We were listening to it before you came in here.
It was just, you get on a rabbit hole.
Oh, my gosh.
I always get down rabbit holes.
When we first discovered you on TikTok, my producer and I were just like, I want to be her friend.
Like, I want to cook with her.
Come eat.
I need to.
I would love to come eat.
Come on.
I'm serious.
I love Southern cooking.
Where are you from originally?
I'm from just outside of Savannah.
Okay.
Georgia.
Yeah.
So I grew up.
I'm a seventh generation colonist.
So I grew up with a long line of opinionated Southerners that loved Cook.
And I'm not a professional chef.
You don't got a hair in my mouth.
But it's my hair because I bought it.
So it's my real hair.
There you is.
But yes, I just, I love cook.
And then when quarantine hit, the pandemic hit last year and I couldn't tour,
I was so sad about that.
Yeah.
I'm an entertainer to the bone.
So I knew I had to do something to entertain.
And I figured why not try this little TikTok app?
I joined TikTok in 2019, and I had like 11 or 12,000 followers, I think.
And I really didn't know how to use the app.
It was just, anyway.
But for some reason, meat and potatoes, little country recipes.
And I poked fun.
I think at Tanya Tucker, it was like a, it was all in good humor.
Yeah, she's a queen.
Yes.
And went viral and biscuits went viral.
Don't tell me for some reason.
It's not the biscuits.
It's you.
Yeah.
I thought I was on video.
I said, I honestly think I could post.
a recipe for a butter sandwich and I really do think if maybe we can just get it to translate
over to to the music side, which it is starting to do that, which I'm so thankful for.
Yeah, it's so cool. I mean, if anyone just hears you sing, stand by your pan, they're like,
I need more of that voice. Like I, it's making a ringtone. It's just, I should make it a ringtone.
Wait, can I get you to do my ways voice? You know the girl that tells you to turn right and left?
Honey, I have put in a request to the Apple people. I would love to be the.
Southern speaking Siri.
But you call me Sally.
Okay.
Southern speaking Sally.
Wouldn't that be great?
I would pay a lot of money for that.
Turn the left right up here at the Baptist Church.
Whoops.
You follow on him too closely.
Back on.
You're just anything.
I'd be G-rated for the most part.
What would you say if there was a hazard reported ahead?
Some dumb ass ran into somebody else.
Roadkill.
Our deal on 31.
Come up.
Oh my God. You're so funny. You're also called badass female country artist by Rolling Stone, which is freaking nuts.
Do you just put that on your tombstone or like hang it on your wall?
I didn't pay him to say that. No, I just, all of our music folks here in town, I feel like they've been champions of me for a while.
And we have kind of an acquired taste for music. And so I appreciate them taking notice and keeping up with me like they do.
and, you know, again, I guess Nashville's always going to be your biggest fan until the world finds out about you.
Okay, so the world has found out about you.
Now what?
It's crazy.
I cannot go.
Like, some girls started crying at the Mexican restaurant in Maltry, Georgia.
I was in four hours from home, mocked in yesterday for supper.
And anyway, that was funny.
That's adorable.
I'm not complaining.
I think it's awesome.
You know, taking pictures of everybody when I go on to the...
If it's an airport or if it's a dollar general or anything, I just, I'm so thankful for the platform that TikTok has given me to bring joy to people.
Isn't that cool? I feel like, you know, as an artist, you, well, you write a lot too. But as like a performer, that was really tough for people going through quarantine and to not be able to do that. So to have a platform where you're probably reaching a million more people than you would on a stage. It's like you don't physically get to see them, which is part of the fun. But you get to know you're still entertaining people like in their home.
every day.
Yeah.
A lot of people
who were like,
shut up in New York
who couldn't go out
and who couldn't do things
when things were really,
really strict.
I just, yeah,
it kind of put a fire
under my behind to make more content
and to really try to grow it
as much as I could.
Yeah.
So it's a tough balance
between that and my music
because we just released the half record
and that's doing well.
And, you know,
and I'm trying to write songs
because I write professionally for Sony.
And so it's just a matter of finding a balance.
You are a busy lady.
Yes.
Well, you are too,
girl my lord you're in high demand i have this table by the way you do i do mine's black it's
it's my table and back well then you need that my lefties i do i do i'll buy it off of you
that's the kitchen that you cook in is that your kitchen that is my kitchen a lot of people don't
don't think that it is but yes it's uh i thought it was i was like that's for sure her kitchen
it's so cute it is i live in this cute little cottage on the east side and uh it's got a lot of
a historical background, but my house is like honky top Graceland, if you will,
from the 60s.
But my kitchen, I wanted to pay homage to my grandmothers.
So there's avocado.
Well, my colors are avocado green, harvest gold, everywhere in orange and browns.
And I just love that.
But yeah, it's just, it's, I think that's part of the reason the TikToks took off is that it's
really nostalgic.
I was going to say it's nostalgic.
Yeah, they feel like they're back in the kitchen cooking with their grandparents,
like with all the little things that I use, you know.
that's actually exactly how I felt when I came across that because I used to cook with my grandma and her kitchen were those colors and it makes me so happy it was the same thing you know kid rock he's you know yeah Bobby yeah and he like has a trailer that he lives in and it's just so him and I feel like you got to do what makes you feel authentic to yourself you know if you're if that's what you like to do and that's the ambience you like while you cook make your get my girlfriend just redid her whole kitchen with cherry wallpaper and all old school.
appliances and in like greens and yellows and she like redid her little cottage to look like
that and I walked in and I was like there's something so comforting about it because it's not
you know like Instagram you know worthy or aesthetically pleasing to people but or white or gray
no offense to those people that like those colors it's just not my thing I get it I have seen
the inside of kid rocks Bobby's trailer by the way the outside of you've not been folks it's like
a mossy oak breakup camo so it blends in with the woods it's up on this hill and in the inside it's
red velvet rich with you know kr or b r bobby ritchie his golden embellished initials and
grade and everything i mean it's pretty kick ass i would say it is it is him yes my girlfriend
has been and she always just says it's very him it's very am have you always been like out of the
womb like this like a spicy southern like you're
You just, like, have you always been a performer and attracted people's, like, energy and just been like, I need to perform?
You're so sweet.
Well, I'm a twin.
Okay.
Yep.
And I'm a fraternal twin.
So my sister has straight hair and brown eyes, mine are green.
No way.
Anyhow.
But she is always the prettier twin.
And I grew up with a lot of beautiful, beautiful girls.
And this is not me complaining because I feel like I've grown into my looks.
But I'm very confident in who God made me to be.
but I was the black sheep.
I was ugly duckling.
And so I had to learn how to develop personality, as Kat Williams would say.
Winter is here.
Find yourself some clothes and a personality.
But I'm so thankful for that.
I mean, I've always been, you know, good old chunky kid.
But I'm thankful for that because, you know, I had to learn how to demand the attention
of a room.
It's not anything that I have to try to do anymore.
It's just, I'm just growing into me.
Yeah.
Who I am.
So can you pinpoint the time in your life where, you know,
you started to be like, no, this is who I am.
And now all the girls are graduated with
and put on a lot of weight.
Not that I'm relishing in that, but...
I love you, babies.
I love y'all so much.
Yeah, do they, like, reach out to you all the time now?
Yeah, I love them.
All of them all.
That's right.
Okay, Vinos, do I ever have the perfect gift for you this holiday season?
Okay, it really is a great gift for anyone, even including yourself,

They're so soft.
They even get softer with every wash.
Plus, they're completely toxin free and fair trade certified.
Bowling Branch is really setting the new standard embedding by doing things the right way.
And like I mentioned, these sheets make for the best gift for.
for everyone in your life. One of my go-to gift ideas, actually, because it never disappoints.

You said it was a journey.
Can you, like, pinpoint a time in your life where you just started being like,
I'm going to embrace who I am?
Oh, heavens.
Well, probably in college, I would say at least.
I guess the first time of my life where I wasn't with my twin,
where I went off to school, but I was only three hours away from home,
so it wasn't like I went off off.
But still, it felt like 13th grade, but more freedom.
But yeah, I just, I had to do one pageant.
I'm not a pageant girl, believe it or not.
I just always, if you have to go with a group and you had to wear the same t-shirt, you had to do it.
Like, I was always the one adding some bedazzling or ripping it up to make it look a little more rock and roll.
Just, yeah, I've never wanted to fit in.
Yeah, I feel that.
So, yeah, there are you go.
That's amazing.
And I like that because I think there's a lot of people who think they should want to fit in in the world, but they don't want to.
And I think it's starting to be more acceptable and like a norm now to just be who you are.
Maybe that's because I'm 36 now.
But I feel like people are starting to, you know.
know, accept who they are and embrace it and not want to fit in.
I agree.
I think that's one of the, one of the best compliments I've been given as a TikToker and as an artist.
I mean, I'm, you know, I'm curvy and blue-up for us and I cook meat and potatoes and I eat that kind of stuff.
I do try to eat clean, believe it or not.
But I hear from a lot of women who thank me for for embracing that and for giving them confidence.
And I have no idea, but hell yeah.
If it works, it works.
Oh, yeah.
I feel like you would give a lot of women confidence.
And you, I mean, let's start way back before you hit this level of fame because I read that you lived in an attic on a mattress and ate baloney sandwiches.
Yes.
You need to.
Have you done a TikTok?
Right over here, actually.
Like, it's straight to over from where we are.
Yeah.
Have you done a remake TikTok of a baloney sandwich because you obviously know how to do it?
I actually, I did back in April.
I did a fried bologna sandwich.
Oh, good.
Okay.
But I need to do another one.
I love the fried bologna sandwich.
you can't tell.
But no, when I moved to town, I worked at Bass Pro Shop selling Mercury Outboard Motors and
Tracker Boats.
And I lived in an attic apartment on Belmont Boulevard.
There was a windy unit and a mattress on the floor and a little bathroom.
There was no kitchen.
Wow.
But I had air conditioner and that was more important to me.
Well, that's a big deal in Nashville.
So, yeah, there is.
So I lived off peanut butter jelly and bologna sandwiches.
Wow.
I sure did.
I did for as long as I lived there.
I found this awesome place on the west side and then the flood happened. And I had to pay out
all my savings to, you know, for that sub lease. And I had to move home for good six, eight months.
Wow. In that time that you were doing that, were you still happy or did you find was it hard times?
Some people are like thriving in that and they're like going to make ends meet and, you know,
but some people are like, that was a low point in my life. Looking back, it's a low point. But at the time,
yes as a dreamer and as a believer i just you know you have so much hope and excitement and
you know hope for what's to come when you move to town and i just feel like uh that that pure
adrenaline really just and that faith just really fuels you that empowers you to keep moving
forward and thank god i haven't lost that yet i mean i'm still not where i want to be but i'm
a lot further you know than where i've been so yeah what's your dream of where to be oh honey well
I'd love to, honestly, Hollywood.
Yeah.
Really?
Ultimately, to become a member
at the Grand Ole Opry,
that's, you know,
cultural girl dream,
for sure.
But I'd love to be selling
out of arenas one day,
and I'd love to act in a major film.
I'd love to be doing stuff in Hollywood.
Oh, I could see that, you know,
playing with Fallon,
you know,
doing some of those funny,
funny late-night games
and whatnot with him,
which is actually where the standby
your pan idea came from.
What?
Really?
Yes, I copyrighted the idea
at my lawyer's office
like seven or eight years ago,
And I was like, this is all the money I've got, take this, let's put it to use.
But I just, I thought of in the future having like a late night, comedy infused,
Fallon meets Paula Dean, where we play, you know, I would blindfold you and we'd make you pick out a bunch of ingredients.
You'd have to cook so that it would have to eat it.
Yeah.
Matter how terrible it was.
That's a great idea.
You know, kind of a show where I would feature Alabama shakes or just some out-of-the-box musical guest.
Yeah.
But, yeah, then COVID happened and then, you know, you know,
universe kind of forced me to just try it there.
Yeah, yeah.
And I think it's right where it should be.
Absolutely.
That's a really good idea.
Okay, I have to have a humble brag for a second.
I was like a peak in my life was I got to go on Jimmy Fallon.
And it was like, of course you didn't have a barrette.
Yeah, but all I did, like usually we go on Jimmy Kimmel because it's ABC and I was like,
I get to go on Fallon and I got to like just come up.
They like, him and Questlove did like a skit on the Bacheloret.
And then I came out and I was like critiquing.
like, well, you could have been done better at this and this.
And then Jerry was like, it's the Bachelorette.
And I was like, it's Jimmy.
I was just like, this is so, it was literally a peak of my life when I'm like, where do I go from here?
That was two years ago when you're going on.
Oh, gosh, no.
This was five years ago.
God, maybe six.
I don't even know.
Questlove has Afro, Lord of you cool.
I want to go watch that.
That is precious.
Forgive me for not.
Oh, my gosh.
I've seen that episode, yeah.
That was a long time ago.
You don't have to be sorry about that.
But it was, it's just cool.
to see like you probably if you're anything like me i'm a manifester you probably see that you
probably see yourself with jimmy fallon playing games and that's what's you know you're like you said
you're a dreamer and i feel like things like that happen to dreamers yeah for sure for sure
Kate it's frustrating like too because it just it's a it's a long haul i've been in town for 11 years
now and yeah you know so but it's gonna happen it's good i completely believe in you especially with
The more people that realize who you are, even just from TikTok, I feel like the more you're just making your way to Hollywood.
Because there's like people, you know, TikTokers who, like me, I just copy everything else from other people.
Or there's people who dance, but there's real talent on TikTok.
And you are someone who has real talent.
Well, she's Hollywood anyway.
But, I mean, she just took off.
Yes, she did.
Oh, my gosh.
I think that's another one who I want to do my ways apps telling me to turn right.
Oh, she's being hilarious.
her voice is just something else like so like that turn right like so like that yeah there you go that
yeah it's so like that i shouldn't yeah it's so comforting um and you also had to sell all your guitars
and start cleaning houses in order to pay for your band this is another thing i love about you is you're
you're not just a dreamer you're a go geter and a doer as well and you would to sell the first guitar
your dad ever gave you that that breaks my heart you need to track that down i know don't tell him that
but yeah i had to do that i did so uh well i mean it takes a lot of money to make it in this business
And if I get too caught up in that,
I feel like it'll set me back
and not propel me forward.
But to pay a band
and I believe in trying to pay folks
what they're worth, yeah,
my band played a lot of shows for me for free,
but I know I had to pay them, pay them.
And so, yeah, I ordered them,
I mean, songwriters professionally,
we only get paid like $2,000 a month, usually.
Right.
If you're, you know, your base draw as an artist,
artist writer.
So, yeah, solo's guitars and started cleaning houses.
And so for years, I wrote songs,
and played shows on barred guitars.
Good old Jared Johnson and Mr. Jeff Stevens
both loaned me some guitars to use.
Wow.
And I'd have to drive by their office and pick it up,
go to the house and pick it.
So that's amazing.
And so who, when was like,
because who discovered you?
Someone picked up one of your songs.
Well, I had a publishing deal by the time that had happened,
but yes, but Brad Paisley did cut.
Well, yeah, so it's funny to be fired from,
you know, fire from a job for writing songs.
Yeah.
But for one of those.
that I was working on time to be picked up by a major act
was really cool. But yes,
who discovered me to answer your question?
Daniel Lee
and really Jeff Stevens, who is Luke Bryan's producer
and has been a Luke's right-hand man for years,
really saw something in me.
And I literally was walking up to write with Jeff Stevens one day
when I literally overheard him on the phone
with a few choice words talking to the head
of the major publishing company at the time saying,
you don't happen sign her, I don't take her over to Warner Chapel,
which right now.
Anyways, and I had a publishing deal the next day.
And so it was awesome.
I love my family there at that publishing company.
And that led to my relationship with Jaron Johnson,
who's the frontman of the Cadillac 3.
He's a rock and roller, one of my guitar heroes.
And he and his wife, Evan, was my rep at ASCAP.
Those guys are familiar with that.
Anyhow, she brought him to, she put a little show at the basement here in town
and brought him along.
And he wound up getting on stage with me.
And we made a record and I got a record deal.
And he also gave me my first.
electric guitar and said here learn it uh-uh and you did i did yeah yeah i just fake it you might
take a few solos live because i mean i'm an entertainer but uh i'm no clapping entertainers always
blow my mind of what they like you'll just put on a resume yeah i can play electric guitar and then
you somehow can't or if you can't you fake it that's pretty cool i just fake it i mean little honey
if you look at my neck of my guitar because i'm trying to sing and play there's a little i've got
I think of no polish, got red polish, marking little tick marks so I'll know where to be
with my slide when I'm also trying to sing in between and because lights get really dark on stage.
That's hard.
I tried to learn guitar.
It's hard.
Well, honey, you don't have to.
You're absolutely beautiful.
God gave you tiny leg, tiny arms and a great smile.
You're the Bachelorette for Pete's sake.
You're like Miss America.
Except Miss Canada.
I'm Canadian.
I thought that was funny that I got picked to be the bachelor.
I'm like, I'm Canadian.
So that's huge.
I love that.
But huge thanks to Fender back to the.
the guitar thing and I'll quit rambling but you know it go from selling on my guitars not having any
to now I've got more guitars than I have room for in my house thanks to vendor guitars they have done
so much for me this year and I appreciate the platform that they've given me wow I mean if you think
about you said you've been in the city for 11 years is that what do you think gave you the drive
and determination to keep trying after all the times that you know there's so many people out there
that want this job or their dream job or they're told no for certain things and a lot of people
want to give up, what has kept you determined to keep going?
Well, I think that we're, and you can probably relate to this, obviously, but I think
we're just, we're born with this knowing, sense of knowing, like, in your gut, that this is
what I was born to do, and this is my gift. And I'm not going to make it as a telemarketer,
and I'm not going to make it as an NBA player. But I know where my place is. I know where my
gifts are. And I'm open for whatever opportunities, you know, get presented in my path.
I'm telling you, I didn't anticipate TikTok doing more.
what it's doing. Right. And it does take a lot of my time, but it's, it's growing the Hannah-Dasher brand.
Yes, exactly. And it's ultimately not about me after all, you know, like it's our job as entertainers to
help people escape for a 59 second video or for a three-minute song. Right. So I think it's all,
it all comes out in the wash, honey. I love it. That's, I feel the same way. I feel like everybody,
like I feel like I was born to have a podcast. I love it so much. This episode of Off the Vine is brought to you by

And I'm talking about the Peloton. I know from a firsthand experience that making time to work out
can be really, really tough sometimes. But with Peloton, you can start building fitness into

Sometimes finding the motivation to work out is not easy, but let me tell you, when it comes to working out with Peloton, it is something I genuinely look forward to.
I am obsessed with the instructors.
I have Cody Rigsby, one of my phases on the pod very, very soon, and obsessed with the music and playlist that the instructors curate, listening to the beads, Beyonce, while I'm working out, a little dance party on the bike.
What could be better?
They have classes for every level and such a huge variety, so you will never get bored, and they'll just keep coming back for more.

I'm obsessed with not only you're just speaking voice, but like your singing voice is,
we were saying it's like so classic with a little like,
outlaw, like it's very classic.
You hear that outlaw country?
Is it Jeremy over there?
Play my music.
Yeah.
Thank you very much.
I mean, like, I think we're all kind of melting pots of our influence.
I'm so thankful that my parents exposed me to like Aretha Franklin and Marshall Tucker band and Clint Black and Keith Whitley and George Strait and obviously Alan Jackson is a big songwriting influence of mine and then when I discovered boys, when I was a teenager, I got into boys. I got into their music and like there was ACDC and Skinner, which is like my number one band of all time and Tom Petty as a songwriter. I mean, wow, what an amazing talent there.
So I don't know.
I just, it's funny.
You could be driving along one day listening to yourself on recording,
and you might hear something that reminds you of something from your past that you had,
that you never, you didn't know it at the time.
Does that make any sense?
No, it does.
Yeah.
No, I get it.
I mean, I just love it.
And tell us about your song, you're going to love me.
Oh, honey.
I wrote that over here in this side of town, actually, too, with Gordy Sampson and
my buddy Thomas Archer, Andy Albert.
It's my first four-way ride.
Who knew it took four damn people to write a song?
But it was just, it was a fun day.
And Thomas and I were actually roommates in town for years.
And he called me H to the Dam to the D.
Anyways, but I had this bad, ma'am, Jambo,
and he's like, people call me Hannah H to the damn to the day.
It just kind of fell out.
And I was like, I can't say that in a song.
People think I'm a cocky MF.
He's like, you could pull it off H-Dv.
Yes, you can.
So I was like, all right, let's do it.
Yeah.
And now all these girls named Hannah are like, you know, it went viral on TikTok.
That was great.
So there you go.
I'm making all these girls in the merch line name.
Hey, my name's Hannah.
That's a lot of Hannah.
That's a lot of Hannah's out there too.
Does your accent really get stronger after cocktail number three?
If your accent gets thicker after cocktail number three.
Because my Canadian one does.
Oh, I love it.
Doesn't everybody's?
Yeah.
Yes.
If I'm drinking tequila,
that my speech doesn't get slurred until until it hits me and that's that's when it's like bedtime so usually oh i'm just same way with tequila people are like where is it going how are you drinking that much and then i'm like energy water yeah it really is what's your go-to cocktail oh whatever free yeah well yeah i try to keep clear liquids because i you know but although when it gets really cold weather i'm a i like my cheap scotch i do i like oh i like i'm a scotch girl actually but yeah but i'm a silver tequila
Yeah.
All day long.
Yeah.
I love tequila and wine.
Yeah.
Tequila and mine.
What about a gin martini?
Oh,
gin martini is my favorite.
Jason and I just did this post on Instagram where we're like, are you a gin or martini?
Because I'm a gin martini and Jason likes vodka martini.
Yes, girl.
And I love a gin martini with olives.
What's your go-to, gin?
I really like Hendricks.
What's yours?
Hendricks is great.
Although I'm a Bern-Gafton fan, so Tank-A-Rae would be.
I like Tanqueray, too.
It's kind of obviously cliche, but Hendricks, I think does make a better.
It's really smooth. I really, really like Hendricks.
Other stuff tastes like pine tar. Yeah, I can't do the like lemon gin or the clean. It tastes like cleaner. No, not for me. I truly feel like you're lying in it. I ain't for everybody, but I don't try to be resonated with me because I feel like I've always danced to the beat of my own drum and my whole family will say that about me and I feel like you're probably the same way. Yes, absolutely. Like you're just unapologetically who you are. But I think that's what resonates people. Like people.
like fans I read all my comments from people on Instagram what I and not in a like an insecure what do they say next kind of a thing but I'm a I was a public relations major so we do surveys and analytics yeah and it's literally I'm just trying to gauge what my audience is beating off of like like anyway but that that's where I pull from and and people can read through the BS and and if something's working I think it's just because it's it's real yeah and they can totally you know you know it's
If it's a, I don't know if it's a contrived project, I think artists or things like that can, you know, they have a big manager.
They can, they can go a certain, yeah, like a too far, a certain way.
Yeah, but they, but they don't stay, they don't stay there.
Right.
Gosh, words are hard.
I'm so sorry.
Words are really hard today.
I don't smell burnt toast.
I'm not having a seat here, so I should be good.
Tell me what would you say your top three favorite recipes are that you've done on TikTok?
Oh, well, my biscuits bring all the boys to the yard.
The biscuits was fun.
Yeah.
I mean, biscuits, I wanted to.
I didn't make a good biscuit a year and a half ago, and I've made it a goal.
I wanted to perfect the good Southern buttermilk biscuit.
And so I just trial and error and came up with what I thought was a recipe that I, well, it's, I prefer my recipe most.
Have you always liked cooking?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, honey, I love to eat.
Oh, yeah.
Well, cooking is therapeutic.
It takes so long for us creators.
It takes so long for our goals and dreams.
to come fruition so you know that's what a lot of us like yard work or gardening yeah see your
progress or see what you've made i've never thought about it that way because i too find cooking
therapeutic i love it and i love having glass of wine and cooking and having music on and that makes
sense because i like to see after my my fiancee always just likes to eat for fuel and i'm like
can you just appreciate that i like i take a napkin and i rim the plate so that there's no like
splatters because the presentation means a lot to me. And he's like,
all right.
Okay, what are your three things you cannot live without in the kitchen in terms of like
appliances or tools? Three things I can't live without in the kitchen.
Yeah. Oh, heavens. My avocado green Tupperware canisters that hold my white lily.
Well, they're not paying me to say that yet. That hold my flour and my, you know,
my sugar and things like that. My percolator, coffee, my retro. It reminds me a Patsy
Klein and she's just one of my heroes. Yeah.
it reminds me something that she would have had in her house.
I'd say my lacrosse, my lacrosse, my lacrosse pots.
It's a fancy Cadillac.
It's a Cadillac of cookware, honey.
It's wonderful stuff.
You need to do brand deals with these people.
I should.
Well, they sent me a box of free stuff.
Oh, that's amazing.
Let me go shopping for free.
That was a lot of fun.
Yeah.
Anyway, but yeah, we're working on some of those.
Yeah, as you should.
And what would your last meal be?
Got my last meal?
It depends on who it's with.
No, that's a good answer.
Is it one that I'm cooking or one.
than I'm eating. One that you're eating.
Oh, I'd say good old bone-in ribby.
Let's make it a chama hot ribbi.
I said, I'm going to heaven.
And, oh, heavens.
And calories don't count.
Probably some kind of a pasta on the side with that.
Oh, yeah, girl.
That sounds delicious.
Yeah, cream spinach and, like, broccoli, hollandays.
Oh, I love holidays.
And I don't know for dessert.
Probably like a young Matt McConaughey.
That should be a second.
I was like, oh, yeah.
Or rip from Yellowstone for dessert.
That'd be great.
both married both off limits
both off limits well
you can not in your dreams though
and in your mind are you sweet or salty
both yeah me too
yes girl I love that
you've got to have a confession from inside the kitchen
like something
like an embarrassing moment
yeah
I was entertaining a gentleman
friend of mine earlier this year
and
the stove caught on fire.
That's not really, it was funny to us.
But kind of embarrassing,
I was going to perform at Johnny Marshall's Theater.
Okay.
Which is in Savannah.
This is years ago.
It was singing.
And just before I was to go on stage,
my zipper, like, busted on my dress.
Would not zip back up either.
So what you did not bring it back up?
So a lady backstage
grabbed a bunch of my,
found a bunch of safety pens
and pinned me up, so I just, I just tried to, I had to sing like this,
and I tried to turn my back to the audience, and I just had to,
and I just kind of backed off stage like this.
I could say that my dress was caped open in the back.
Oh, and my opera debut, first song, middle of the song, my top busted open on me,
and this is pre-surgery.
Anyway, those are yours, too, because you bought it.
Well, it's fine, because I'm a daggone.
Thank you, Dr. Harris.
She catches on quick, doesn't.
Well, my favorite is saying those are real, real expensive.
Hey, boobs are power.
It's one of the best stitches I ever made for myself.
If anyone's thinking about doing that, by all means, like, you know, if you've got enough full of eye, great.
If you want more, get them.
Don't let anybody tell you any different.
I like that.
I feel like it should be whatever you, it's your body, whatever you want to do with it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sometimes I go back and forth.
I like my small boobs and then other times I want yours.
I think you're beautiful.
Oh, thank you.
That's very nice, but you haven't seen me naked.
I don't swing that way.
There's another thing.
There's another reason.
That's for Jason.
Okay.
That's for Jason.
What is the funniest stand by your pan incident?
Totally.
It was doing a three-layer cake.
One of the layers caught on fire.
Well, like, drop.
I was just pulling the, I have a little cheap oven.
Obviously, I was pulling the rack out in one of the cake pans just fell down the back of the oven and whatever it caught on fire.
And so I had to make it into a, I just, yeah, I made a layer cake.
Yes.
Actually, I just split them both in half and made it a four layer.
Whatever.
I guess that's kind of funny.
And tell us about music you have out right now and where people can find it.
Yes.
Well, I've got a song called Tall Boy coming out this Friday.
Okay.
Amazing.
So is that tomorrow?
Yeah.
So tonight and 11.
Oh, amazing.
So it's out right now when people are listening to us.
Yes.
It'll be out.
Tallboy.
This girl don't need no man.
I just need a tall boy.
Yes.
It's time for tailgate season.
Yes.
I was a late getting it out.
And my dear girlfriend and I, Julia Cole, who's,
precious.
Did a little spin on a brindly Christmas number.
So we've got that one coming out.
Rock around Christmas tree.
I love Christmas music.
It's so much.
It really is.
And every year I can't wait to put it on.
And some people get annoyed at it.
And I'm like, let's start it up, like, end of November.
I'm playing Christmas music.
You're dang right.
So, yeah.
So that way I've got my little this for this month, next month, Christmas.
And then we'll start promoting the Riva tour in December.
Which I'm so excited about.
doing some shows with Reba McTyr.
She is a hero of mine.
You're going to tour with Reba?
Yes, girl.
Shit, that is awesome.
Yes, I'm so excited.
It's great.
Oh, my gosh.
Do you know what cities you're going to yet?
Or can people find it on a website?
The long as I know of are Toledo, Sioux Falls, Green Bay.
I'd love to do Atlanta.
We'll see.
Kaylee Hammett because a much bigger manager than me.
She'll probably get that one.
But I'm so excited to have some dates on that tour because she's an icon.
Yeah.
Absolutely. That's awesome.
We'll eat corn dogs out stage, and that'd be fun.
And Riebel loves corn dogs.
I love corn dogs.
We're going to play a little game called What Goes in Your Pound.
Just kind of like a this or that.
In your pants?
I was just taking it down.
I'll shut up.
No, please do.
I love it.
Okay, meat or vegetarian?
Well, mate, but I can cook vegetarian.
Okay.
good. I figured it, though, when you said meat. I'm a meat woman. Yeah, yeah, me. Hot dogs or hamburgers?
Hamburger. Oh, really? With cheese, no cheese. I try to avoid dairy when I can. Although I love a hot dog with sour cream and onions.
Really? Not to contradict myself, but yes, girl. Good old, good old beef hot dog. But yeah, I'm more of a hamburger girl, always. Okay. Pie or cake? Cake. Really.
What's your favorite kind of cake? Chocolate, vanilla? I'm a chocolate, girl. I like a 10 or 12 layer chocolate.
like a yellow cake with chocolate icing
old-timey icing
yummy butter or margarine?
Butter.
Okay. Cooking spray or olive oil?
Oh, Tammy Winette was a margarine girl.
Uh, olive oil.
Okay.
Saucy or extra saucy.
Ooh, extra saucy.
Mild or spicy.
Spicy.
Salt or pepper.
Pepper.
Pepper. Really?
Rice or taters?
Oh.
I grew up on the coast, so
rice plantations are big, but I have to say
potatoes.
Bacon or sausage?
Like if I had to live without one or the other?
You can do a lot more with bacon. Let's say bacon.
Okay.
I was vegetarian for, well, I was pescatarian for like four years.
And I'm just from being with Jason, he's like always cooking like, again, like I said for fuel.
So I started like dabbling back in the meat business.
Like a little chicken, little baby.
And then I had a bite of bacon and was like, I forgot how I'm done.
delicious this is.
I have to separate the like what it, where it comes from.
How does your body react to it?
Is it all right?
I mean, I poop my pants, but I'm just kidding.
I'm just kidding.
No, I reacted totally fine.
I know.
It's hot in here.
Tell everybody where they can find your TikTok as well because you,
anyone listening to you will go down the most glorious rabbit hole.
You're so sweet.
So the TikTok, it's Hannah-Dam Dasher.
So that's me and the hashtag stand by your pan.
Yeah.
found me there as well and then Instagram at Hannah Dasher and yeah what do you prefer out of the
two Instagram or TikTok gosh I mean TikTok is giving me a lot of love if you will just so think
TikTok TikTok likes to inspire people to keep going I feel like they like want you to succeed on there
if you have something for the most part yeah Instagram like is a cock block am I allowed to say that
I say but I don't know I feel like I'm not allowed to say it in front of a southern woman I don't
give it honey all right gill right cuss good heavens all right
I mean, Instagram, my Instagram's been doing well lately, so I don't know, just don't put any money behind ads because that's what I do with my TikTok and that's why I'm not at $2 million right now.
I'm only at one and a half only. I'm so thankful to have that.
Yeah, that's a lot.
Right, but no, I mean, it's slowed.
Like I was climbing at 200,000 followers a month, basically.
And then it came to a halt as soon as a label put money behind.
And because TikTok wants you to keep paying.
Right.
I make sense I guess.
And so it has literally taken all year to climb another $200,000 followers.
Do you get like guys sliding in the DMs now all the time too?
I don't check my TikTok messages at all.
Instagrams, yes, dirty old men, sweet young men.
Oh.
Have you gone to date with any of them from the DMs?
No, I don't date people from them.
Oh, just kidding.
Except Robert Randolph.
I mean, he's obviously really, really talented and great musician and, you know,
and I'm a fan, but he has to live in my DEMs.
and we are good buddies, and we are going to go out to eat when he comes to town.
He wants to buy me and carry you under a house.
He said yesterday.
That's amazing.
Anyway, so the gram has been good.
It's really good for vetting people.
I feel like you can navigate it a little better and see who's creepy and who's not.
That's true.
You can.
But for sure.
I would love to see her.
And the Whiskey Myers boys, for you those slide up in my DMs and just say, hey, we're pulling for you.
Kind of I think is cool.
That's nice.
I think it's bullshit because they have to take you on tour with him, but they really felt that way.
Touche.
Where can I, like, come watch you?
Do you perform in Nashville?
Yes.
Well, I'm in Lexington coming up with Dylan Carmichael.
And I'm also, I'm doing the,
you're going to love me tailgate tour
where I'm crashing some of the shows
and some of the folks that I want to tour with.
And like Brothers Osborne, Eric Church
and they've gotten kick out of it.
But I'm doing a few of those dates in December
in the Carolinas.
Where am I next?
I'm with Justin Moore in Vegas.
Oh, that's cool.
It's going to be fun.
Opry, you can usually find me at the opera here in town.
I'm usually doing an opera thing every two months, I would love to see you perform.
I think that would be amazing.
Well, honey, you understand we'll send you a little all access and a pass.
You can come whatever you want to.
Okay, I want to feed you.
Okay.
Come to the house and let's have wine.
Wait, do you promise?
I cross my heart.
I would, I think that's on my bucket list to come to your house and get fed by you.
Please.
Oh, my God.
I'll make sure you got a phone number and everything.
Yes.
I'm not one of those.
Come on, we're girlfriends now.
Oh, I love that.
I'll bring the wine.
What kind of wine do you like red, white rosé?
I'm a red girl.
Okay.
Do you like Pino-Noire by any sense?
Yeah, I'll do Pinoa.
Okay.
She's going to her pocketbook to pull out wine, y'all.
I've got my goodie bag.
Look at no way.
Spade and Spade and Spade and Spade and Juvenor.
Yes.
2018.
Look at this.
Pop this Pino and pours up a day changer with notes of fresh, strawberries, raspberries,
soft, velvety tannins, and aromas of rose petals.
Hell yeah.
can't wait.
Read the tagline, I feel like you'll like it.
Great legs, pool body, and the wine's not bad either.
Kalyn Bristow, it's your wine.
Oh, yes.
Oh, Betty, I'm tickled.
Well, you've got to come eat then.
Because, folks, I was so tacky.
I showed up if you handed the dagging airport security,
maybe throwing my apple butter.
And they violated my bosom, too.
They really brisked me.
I fly all the time.
I fly once a month.
I'm sure you travel.
Yeah.
So it's like, you know,
look, anyways, but luckily my pre-checks done now.
Huh?
It's all in my hair.
It's all the clip ends of the hair probably.
No, I was wearing spanks.
Thank you, Spanx, for all the Spanx you send me.
And that is like a little metal thing that goes right here in the center.
And it got deep.
Oh, Rhonda.
So what, having it, she thought I had a bomb on me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
Well, you know what?
I'll have to come over for your apple butter and everything else.
I wish you would.
Yeah, I'll feed you a meal meal.
Okay.
You bring Jason, too.
Yes. Okay. Perfect. I can't wait.
Thank you for having me. You are killing it. I hope to come find you on your tour.
Oh, thank you. Yeah. We're doing a podcast tour. It's going to be so fun. I've done two other tours before and it gets crazy.
Like the Off the Vine listeners are the most magical humans on the planet. They're so fun. Yeah. It gets wild.
I go crowd surfing. That's amazing. Yeah. Talk about getting frisk.
What kind of needs are you going to? So do you like the people come watch you live?
Yeah. It's like comedy clubs or like city wineries.
You and Chelsea Lynn
Need to come
Okay
And you follow trailer trash Tammy
No but now I'm going to
Yes you know Chelsea Land
She's on a comedy tour right now
With Theo Vaughn and some of those guys
Well when you said trailer trash Tammy
That sounds familiar
Yes
I don't know
I'll look it up but I'm
Another DM slider
She actually she was a
We made sure there basically via TikTok
And Instagram and got numbers
And now you made some of your best friends
It's over the internet now
You know
I know, but you're all so busy.
You're boss bitches.
You're just crushing it at life, and I rarely get to see you.
Well, you know what?
So are you.
So we'll make time for supper.
I used to call it supper in Canada.
That's how we called it growing up.
So when I hear other people say supper, I'm like, yes, speak of my language.
