Starting point is 00:00:00 Okay, let's talk about the original enemies to lovers story. Before all of our reality TV couples, before the rom-coms, we binge, there was Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in pride and prejudice. An Audible has just dropped a brand new original that will have you completely hooked, I am. It's not just any audiobook. This is a full cast performance. So Marisa Abella, you might know her from industry, brings Elizabeth Bennett to life.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And Harris Dickinson from Baby Girl and Where the Crawdad Sing is Mr. Darcy. And honestly, the chemistry, you guys, it's everything. Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Polter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. And with a vibrant new adaptation and original score by Grammy-nominated composer, it just feels so fresh and modern while still keeping that timeless Jane Austen charm.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So whether it's your first time experience. seeing Pride and Prejudice or you've read it a million times. You're going to fall absolutely in love all over again. So go listen to Pride and Prejudice now at audible.ca slash Jane Austen. Off the fine. How long have you been in the stand-up world? Like 30 years? Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:01:23 In the like comedy space, I feel like if it was me personally, I'd be like these TikTokers. coming out of and getting like Netflix specials when you've like been in the grind for so long or are you like I'm not here for it all? I have never been that bitter person because I saw it I experienced it the whole way. Yeah. I saw when sitcom writers were all bitter about the success of reality shows. Yeah. And they were like, I'm not getting my three million dollar writers guild holding deal anymore. Right. And I'm like, you didn't design. serve that in the first place. Like, shut up. So I've always, I've always been to the place like, hey, adjust. When a word is no longer appropriate, take it out of your act. When something's moving
Starting point is 00:02:09 to this area of TikTok or Reels, figure it out, get it out, and start going. That's probably why you've lasted so long in the industry, because you're able to do that. Yeah, I mean, with the podcast, I only did the podcast, because like after Chelsea lately started, I ended, I had like a couple, two little pilots that went for like six weeks each on TLC and then they both died and then I was like I guess it's time for a podcast because back then like eight and a half years ago anytime I even did one like I just did it for fun I didn't even know how to listen to it like I didn't even know what it was nobody made money at it and then I was like well I'll do it just so that people know that I met this comedy club in Dallas or whatever and then I was like oh this is like actually starting
Starting point is 00:02:56 to do well, and then I got to a place where, you know, was the biggest part of my career and the thing that's the most important. But, like, I think that, yeah, that's why I did it. Like, I just, I didn't know what would be the next thing. But then I was like, hey, I go to my agents and I'm like, hey, why's nothing popping anymore? Like, nobody's calling me. I was going out for all these daytime talk shows and things like that. And they were just like really honest at the time. This is probably like five, six years ago. They're like, you're just out what they're looking for. Like they're not looking for white women your look and your age. And they're like, and you're a little too famous to get stuff. Yeah. But you're not famous enough to get the other
Starting point is 00:03:37 stuff. Yeah. So it's like I wasn't going to get like the sitcom that every 45 year old woman was going for because even though I had credits, they're going to go with the chick that's been in 30 sitcoms. They're going to go for Leah Remini who's booked a million things. They know she can read the lines. They all know each other. You're going to pick your friend. You're going to pick that person. No one's in this business going to be like, you know what, I'm going to put my ass on the line. Yeah. And I'm going to hope that this person doesn't blow it. No, they're so terrified to make any.
Starting point is 00:04:09 So that's when they were like, you just got to build up the podcast. Yeah. And that's what I did. And yeah, you really did. And then it really worked out. But I really was like, I appreciate their honesty, they're like, nobody wants you. And I wasn't even bitter. I go, oh, you know, right now it's.
Starting point is 00:04:24 That's hard to do. right now it's really diverse and they want different body types and all this and they just didn't want me. And I was like, well, thank God I can do something else. I was never going to be that person that was like, have you always been like that? I think so because I remember like my parents were realtors and my dad would say, well, the real estate market's taking, guess everyone's going to go back to teaching because everyone gets their real estate license. It was good. And he was like, but we'll be fine. So when everybody got into podcasting over COVID and everybody got these three million-dollar deals because they had eight million followers because they showed their ass on the
Starting point is 00:04:57 internet and they thought, oh, well, this person, certainly those eight million people are going to want to listen to this girl talk for an hour. And guess what? They didn't. And nothing makes me happier than to pull up page six and be like, this person's podcast is no longer. And I'm like, okay, now you realize it wasn't that easy to keep going. It's true. It's true. I've had my podcast for six years. Yeah, you had a long time. Good for you. And I feel the same way. Like it's actually people think it's going to be this easy thing to do a podcast and it really does take a specific skill set to have a podcast and have it lasts for longer than a year and to like keep going especially in this time now where everybody I always say everybody and their dog has a podcast now. The other part of it is is that everybody, I, you know, being that I've been in a long time and I think I do have an eye for like talent or whatever. So I'll get someone that I think is like quirky or weird or maybe that's the first time reality star or.
Starting point is 00:05:51 or I bring back someone from the past. Like, I mean, I brought Spencer Pratt back from the dead. Oh, my God. And he would tell, I, listen, I'm not trying to be rude, whatever. But I'm just saying, I brought, I showed like a fun, the greatest side of him. Yes. And I love him to death. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:10 And he is a loyal friend. And, of course, people hear him. And it starts and they're like, we, you know, ew it. And then they're like, oh, my God, I love him. I love my love. And then, of course, but then sometimes, you know, then everybody else wants that guest. Or you discover someone and they do all the, but then I have to be like, hey, as long as I know
Starting point is 00:06:28 I found you first, as long as I know I said it first, you got, like, but I totally hear you. Yeah. And I think that's a really normal thing. Like, well, that's sometimes with all like the Bravo stuff that I love. Yes. It does irritate me that the people that the network highlights are men that do what I do. That started after me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Like I was literally the first one who wrote. the very first parody of Real Housewives ever on Chelsea Lately, which was the second reunion of New Jersey. Yeah. I was at. Yeah. Like, I always was into it, loved it, made it part of my podcast. But no, they'll have these guys, they'll have, you know, feature the podcasters of all.
Starting point is 00:07:09 And it's always these men. Yes. You're right. And it's, oh, isn't it funny that this man puts on a wig and does lip syncing to the housewives on TikTok? Oh, isn't he hilarious? I'm like, not only do I do impressions, but there's a lot of other really funny other women that do really good housewife impressions and stuff. And I'm like, but they don't get featured.
Starting point is 00:07:30 They don't get asked to do the panel? No. And I'm like, don't you understand why I'm good at it? Because I am the age of these women. I know people who've gotten through every single thing they've gone from hating a sister-in-law to who did you pick to be in your wedding, to divorce, money issues, infidelity, late in life lesbianism. You know, what does this 27-year-old guy that's a fan, which I love that they're fans, and they can do their thing, but I'm just sometimes like... It's like a make-it-make-sense kind of thing. Like, make it make sense.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Like, do you imagine all of a sudden I just started to do, like, commentary for, like, ESPN? I know. And then all the men were like, I love that this girl is talking about it. Like, that would never happen. But meanwhile, women are like, I love it. those two guys that they're actually heterosexual and they talk about bravo so funny I know trust me I have this frustration all the time so here's my bitter you said you thought I was so zen you thought I was so above it it's not even bitterness it's just like facts it's just yeah
Starting point is 00:08:40 you're just vetting facts you know I like respect the amount of information you have about reality television like i want to get into being a bravo girl i've never been a bravo girl and now i really want to because i became friends with katie maloney and i saw the preview for the upcoming season of vanderpump and i'm like why have i not been watching this the whole time it looks so good it's always fun to like get into a new show i don't think you have to say i'll be this you know there's other shows like a little like a family like a community yes and like i i started to watch southern charm and then i just like missed it and then you know and now i'm like wait a minute. Now I finally saw these clips of the end of it. What I like about what I do with the reality
Starting point is 00:09:23 shows is I don't do, like, there's people that do like a straight recap and they can do it really funny and they can like act it out and people love that. I like to have it be that, hey, if you don't watch this show, that's fine. Here's what's interesting. These two girls on Southern Charm, do you watch it? No. I'll tell you right now. These two girls, one named Taylor was dating Shep, who's the star of the show. Okay. And the other one was named Olivia. and she was dating Austin. Okay. And they all were friends, and then they both kind of broke up with their guys.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Okay. But then those two blonde girls, we look very similar, so it's a little hard. They get to come back and be on the show. Okay. And they're like best friends, the two blondes, Olivia and Taylor. Taylor, who was dating Shep, we find out she hooked up with Austin. Oh. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:12 And while they were together? Not really, but a little too close for comfort. Yeah, okay. It wasn't as bad as Scandival, but a little too close for comfort. So they kind of try to hide it, but the cast starts to hear about it and kind of figure it out and ask questions. So they lose their friendship. They have trouble with the friendship. Then at the reunion, this is the juicy part, the Taylor girl that everyone doesn't like anymore.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Okay. Says to the Olivia girl that people do like. She's like, well, what about the Thomas thing, Thomas Ravenall? And she's like, what? Yeah, I got together with Thomas Rabinol when I was 20. Thomas Ravidol was also the star of the show who had this girl who was like 20. He was like 50. They had two kids together.
Starting point is 00:10:52 That girl is no longer on the show. But they all know each other. But the point that I'm trying to get to, because it is hard when you don't know these characters. I know, but I'm following. But the point is, it was like, we're no longer friends. But I told you a secret when we were friends. Right. And now you're such a bitch that you're going to reveal the secret.
Starting point is 00:11:14 It's not only to take the heat off of her. Not only to reveal it to someone at drinks. Right. But on the reunion. Is it live? Yeah. And, well, I mean, they kept it in. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:24 But it totally backfired on Taylor because everybody was like, who cares that she this old fart when she was drunk when she was 26 years ago. Right. She told you in confidence as you guys entered this show. Yeah. And you like put it in your pocket. Saved it for a rainy day. Save it for a rainy day.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Which is just like the fact, the. how horrible adult friendships can be. And especially when you involve Hollywood and reality, it is shocking. Like, I've experienced myself this year. And I am like, yeah. What do you mean if it's serious yourself this year? Ah, well, I had this thing happen where I was very good friends with this guy for 30 years. And he, yeah, we were really, we knew each other like briefly in college, but we've known each other for like 17 years. Yeah. And he. And he was really, we knew each other for like 17 years. And he has his own radio show, which he got after mine, which I, we were very good friends, always supportive, not competitive in my mind ever. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:24 And basically, it's like a very long story, but basically I find, I've had it more and more that honestly he never really liked me. He was, I was just a friend of me to him. Uh-huh. And he then got some people in my life to, he turned them against me. and put stuff in their, in their ears and really try to blow up my whole career. Wow. And then went on the radio and said I was a thief. And I borrowed these earrings from this chick and I lost one and they were worth thousands of dollars.
Starting point is 00:12:57 So then I gave her thousands of dollars. And then I took the earring to make something of it because I still had one left to find out it was fake. And then I found out from Revolve that she bought him at Revolve for $42. Stop. And this whole time he made a parody of a of like a true crime thing about what a piece of shit I am and that I stole it and played it for two months. And then when I revealed that the earrings were $42. And the whole time I was like, am I a piece of shit? Right.
Starting point is 00:13:27 I was like, I know I lost this earring, but I didn't think they were real. Right. Who lends real earrings to somebody. And then all the people that were all involved in this story of what a horrible human I am, Then when I reveal that the earrings were fake, and like, this is insane. This is like out of a movie, you know. Then people are like, well, let's just move on. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:51 And then all these, and then the Hollywood friends that I thought were real friends, they're like, la, la, la, la, la, la, I'd still like to go on a show. And I'm like, that's fine. Oh, I hate that. That's fine. You know, there were a lot of people that heard that Harvey Weinstein was a rapist, but they're like, I just won't go into the hotel room with them. I'll still take the movie.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Yeah. Now there's new people that he's screwing over. Yeah. And I'm like, okay, you needed to get raped by Harvey Weinstein to realize he was a rapist? Like, do you need that? Okay, if you need to see it, see it. But I'm like, hey, go do you. You know, he had done shitty things to other people in the past, and I saw both sides and da-da-da-da.
Starting point is 00:14:32 So I understand why someone could. But I don't understand when everyone knows the facts that this was planned out to, like, really hurt my, and I should have ignored all of it, but I couldn't because I care so much about my listeners and stuff. I cared so much about my listeners that I was like, look, I thought the earrings weren't real. And they're like, but you still never returned them the next day. And I was like, I'm sorry. Like, have you never not borrowed a scrunchy? Do you not have like someone else's Tupperware thing? And this is them. They're $42. Those are the earrings? These are the earrings. I love the earrings. I bought another pair. I bought another pair. I wear them. I wear them.
Starting point is 00:15:10 like a purple heart. What did people think they were? Well, then people said, how could you be so dumb? But I was in such a state because it would have been going on for like four days of just Reddit, attacked, attack, attack, attack.
Starting point is 00:15:26 And so then the final attack was hearing his radio show say, I'm not only, I'm a bad person, I'm a bad friend, I'm all this like, because I borrowed this girl's earrings, lost one, and then never returned him. And she's a very wealthy woman
Starting point is 00:15:37 and they're worth $10,000. So I go find the earring and I go, Peter, should I run down to the jeweler right now? And he goes, just write her right now. Just write her right now and see how much. And then she goes, where there were 3,000, which I thought was weird. Why did he say 10? But I thought maybe she's being nice to me, you know? And I'm like, here, Peter sent her a check.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Yeah. She cashed it. So she cashed the check. And then you found out the earrings. So she made a big problem. And then I wait. people even said that night I went out to dinner with like Lala and Josh Flag and I tell him the story and Josh Flagg is like, why don't you take the ear into the jewelry? I go, of course it's real. She's this rich woman. I'm this horrible piece of shit.
Starting point is 00:16:18 And then I was like, oh, I'm going to pull a, you know, a Rachel from Scandibald and with her lighting bolt. I'm going to make something out of this. It's got to be worth at least a grand. If she paid three, it's got to be worth a grand, right? 42 bucks. So I go to the thing. And then everyone's like, how could you not know? Because look at the little like, this is silver and it's like a little not a good clasp. I don't know. honestly, this is all the jewelry I have I wear. I'm not a big jewelry person. I'm not a Cartier, like, whatever. And so I was like, you know, and she even said how, you know, my beautiful crusted diamond dearies. So then I spring it on BravoCon, that they were fake. Yeah. And then I tell
Starting point is 00:16:57 that they're fake on my show. And then someone goes, I bought those on a revolve. And they sent me the photo. I had a, I had an insider who let me know that she actually purchased them in September of 2022 for maybe 60 because they were originally 60. So I said, so we bought her a pair and we sent him back and she did then return the three grand. No apology. She returned the three grand. Serious radio, never apologized, never said all the defamation, all that I'm asleep. Is she on the radio? Probably not anymore. But she was an occasionally guest on his show. Who is he? His name's Jeff Lewis. Okay. And he's an awful person. Wow. I hate that. that he did that to you.
Starting point is 00:17:39 He'll probably ask you to be on a show next week. And you know, I'm going to say no. You might go. No. Most people say yes because he pays $500. Wait, they say yes because he pays $500? Yeah. I'm confused by Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:17:52 This woman is so rich. She's not that rich, though. She's a grifter. Okay. And then she buys 40. But I didn't know that. I thought she was a nice chick. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:01 And I was like, friends with her. When you're bamboozled by people you think are friends. I've never had this happen in my life. And I'm an old woman. I have never happened to you never like this I've never had a guy cheat on me I mean I've been married a very long time
Starting point is 00:18:13 but I've never had a deception like this in my life and I've had people say like there is a thing like a betrayal like therapy you're supposed to go through because there was a third person this other guy that was on my show and all three of them got together and really planned it out
Starting point is 00:18:33 and I found out more a time went on how planned it was But aren't they embarrassed now? No, they don't care. They really don't care. They're not embarrassed that this whole thing. It doesn't seem like it. They've got to be.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Deep down, I mean, I bet he feels so stupid. They're losers. Oh, and then there's a to it. There's a to top or to it. There's a top or to this other woman that was doing all these videos about me and like getting involved in this whole thing and she made her whole career about his show and stuff. And then she got a little high. on her horse. She thought she's going to be the next Heather
Starting point is 00:19:08 McDonald. And now he's turned on her. And she goes, why won't he call me back? Why won't he answer me and talk to me? I'm like, that was the same thing you did to me. And I go, he's not going to call you back because he's going to use it for content. He's a loser. Grab a coffee and discover nonstop action

Starting point is 00:19:59 I don't know how people use other people for content, like how you don't feel stupid at the end of the day or like how you lay your head down. I think when you're a narcissist, you rewrite history. Yeah. That's true. You just, you compartmentalize. You are going to die alone. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:14 You don't care. Yeah. And people are disposable. And then you surround yourself with everybody that is on your payroll as your friend. Yeah. Yeah. And good luck to you. I'm glad to know who everybody was.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Of course, but 17 years of not knowing I would feel so violated. I mean, I don't know if. 15 years ago, he felt like this. I think in the last year and a half, and I think that people that don't really like stick up for me, like that didn't really go, well, he's a piece of shit. Right, right. And I'm not going to with him again.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Those people, I think they just never really cared for me that much. That's sad. It is sad. Yeah. It is. It's totally sad because I thought they were like actual really good friends. And I thought when we did stuff outside of the podcast, I thought we were real friends.
Starting point is 00:21:01 And I thought we, I thought they enjoyed me. as much as I enjoyed them. Yeah. But no, and I think that's being mature to know that. Yeah. Like, I have to just be like, yeah. There's people in the world, of course, that you, like, have either done some work with or TV with or, like, radio or whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:18 But then there's people that are your real friends. And when those people hurt you in some way, like, I don't know. Or they just don't stick up for you. Or they don't stick up for you. They just want to say, I don't want to be in it. Yeah. I just want to be Switzerland. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:32 And I'm like, well, Switzerland really. wasn't on the right side of World War II. Like, letting that go. So I'm like, okay, go be Switzerland. Call me in a year when you're out of the loop to. And then we can have like a really good lunch. But like, for the meantime, no, I'm not going to with you because I'm like, it makes me feel like, did you think I deserved this?
Starting point is 00:21:51 Do you think I deserved three people that were in my home, came, met my children, went on trips, I took on the road, I introduced to each other. Do you think that I deserved this? No. You know what I mean? And if you kind of do, because maybe I did something in the last three years that you never said bothered you, and I was supposed to be telepathic about it, like, then I'm just like, oh, fuck it. You know, like, yeah, totally it still bothers me. I mean, I'm a real liar to say that I did it.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Well, yeah, of course, that's hurtful. Yeah. I mean, that's really, gosh. And then when I proved it all, right, then everyone just silent. Just silent. I can't believe she paid you back the three grand and they didn't say anything. Yeah, no. She just said, I can't take the internet hell anymore.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Not, hey, you know what? No, she can't say, hey, I got away from me. She'll never admit it. She'll never, what, I mean, there is no saving face. There is no saving face because she came from a whole shady past. Yeah. But I forgave her for her shady ex-husband. I just thought she was a young, dumb girl who was now living off her dead husband's
Starting point is 00:22:55 Ponzi scheme money. Oh, sure. And I thought, all right, well, whatever. At least, you know, we can go to Craigs and have a chuckle. I did not know that this was going to come back to bite me in the ass. So I just like, okay, looking for new friends. Yeah. I will not reach out to make plans with people.
Starting point is 00:23:14 They have to make plans with me because I'm so like I don't really think anyone really wants to hang out with me. How do you trust anyone? I don't. I kind of don't. And I do new friends. New friends that don't have podcasts, which are very hard to find. So I found a couple of people at my country club that are like inviting me to the country club night. and I enjoy that because they don't have podcasts.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Yeah. That must be nice. So to be part of a country club, I feel like you could meet some good people over there. I find it hard to make your friends in general. It is, it is hard. It is really hard. But, you know, I am not like twiddling my thumbs. Like, I have plenty of stuff to do.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Yeah, you're booked and busy. But my kid, but my youngest kid is 18. He's a senior in high school. So it's like I am in a different place with, you know, than people that have other kids. And, but I'm ready to like have some fun. Yeah. I have a few dollars now. I'd like to travel.
Starting point is 00:24:09 I think you'd be juicy scoop on the road and go to that. I should. I've only been to Ireland to do one when I was 16 once to do name that tune. And how was it? Well, I looked awful. What do you mean? I looked so ugly. I really, well, you know, I only do my podcast and take photos of myself.
Starting point is 00:24:27 So I forgot that I can like control, like, my good look. I don't even know if this is the good angle. You look amazing. Actually, that is my better angle. Whatever. But you know what I mean? Like, you do kind of control that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:39 And so, and it'd been a minute since I'd seen myself on TV. And I think it was like, and then every time I didn't get the right, this, like the right song, and then I try to like save it with like, I was doing all these, like, awful faces. Do a lot of people watch that show? I don't know. I don't know. I mean, I think a lot of people that watch it are not going to DM you about it. I think the TV watching people watch TV, and they're a little older, and they're not all of a sudden, every time they watch something going to, like, tweet about it.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Yeah. So I put it out to my people. I won. You did? I won for my charity, $33,000. Oh, amazing. Yeah. So I was very happy about that, and I love my charity.
Starting point is 00:25:20 It's an L.A. charity for kids that grow out of foster care, hillsides. Wow. So I love that. And so that was, like, fun. Yeah. And, but I have never been, Italy. I've never been... Oh yeah, you need to go...
Starting point is 00:25:33 No, so I know. I'm like, I want to live like a 30-year-old influencer because I follow all these young people that are doing all these amazing things and I'm like, I can't afford to do this now. I'm excited for you. I don't even know where to begin. I, well, go to Italy.
Starting point is 00:25:47 That's where you begin. No, I mean, like, could I get like a travel? I don't even know what it's like, who's going to make this plan for me? It just seems overwhelming. I'll give you someone. Her name is up and away. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Her name's Anna. Okay. She's out of Nashville, but she does it for people all over the world. And she will... I have a girl, too. I do it, but I will check out up and away. But like... They'll plan it from the second you leave your house to when you get home.
Starting point is 00:26:09 That's what I mean. Like, I totally need that. Me too. I'm not a planner. I need someone to plan for me. Yes. She will do it. No, I'm excited to do all that, you know.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Oh my gosh. Where are you going to go first? I definitely just want to do like the Amaltecoast situation first. It's the best. Like, I just want to do all of that. Then later on maybe like I'll see like whatever, Rome and stuff like that. But like for right now, I just want the same. sun and the fun and the yachts and the all of that. Yeah. It's never too late, ever. No, it's
Starting point is 00:26:36 no. I'm just starting. That's what I'm like, have to get on this before I like break a hip and can't come up and down the steps. Hey, my mom is 70, no, 71. Yeah. And she walks 10,000 steps a day and she travels and she's like the happiest she's ever been and she's in therapy and she's never too late ever. You need to go live your influencer life. Yeah. Yeah. Have fun with it. I want to know because everybody was talking about the real housewives of... Yeah. Yes. What is going on there with somebody making a troll account?
Starting point is 00:27:14 This is, again, so juicy. And I feel like because of what I just shared with you, I am extra intrigued by it. Yes. So this girl, Monica, she, you know, was a mother, a single mother, divorced twice of four kids. And she was a fan of the show. Which is not a crime in this day and age to be a fan of a show and then go on the show. Okay. But she started so in order to get on the show, she'd be friends with this woman, Jen Shaw.
Starting point is 00:27:41 Okay. Jen Shaw has since been convicted of a crime of doing like a, not a Ponzi scheme, but like scamming old people out of a fake, out of, you know, for nine years. Yeah. Oh, for 20 years. She's got nine years. She got nine years in prison. So before she gets caught, Monica goes and wants to, says, oh, I'll help you. your business, I'll be your assistant. We have all these tape recordings now, which I'll get to
Starting point is 00:28:04 why. And she says this is how Kim Kardashian became famous. She became friends with Paris, which kind of is true. Okay. So as far as getting your foot in the door, then she realizes Jen Shaw is an awful person, which I thought from the moment I saw this woman on camera. She's one of the housewives? Yes, she was. I don't like, I don't like her. I think she's obnoxious. I think she's performative. I don't, I think half of her shit is fake, half is fake, half is real. I think she's full of shit. I think her business is full of shit. whatever. I didn't think she's a criminal. I just let you bullshit. Yeah. There's a diff, yeah. So
Starting point is 00:28:34 during this time, this Instagram account starts, and it's called Reality Vauntis. And it gets a little bit of a following. Maybe it had hovering around 20,000 at its height. Okay. And the person DMs me and I start following
Starting point is 00:28:50 it and, because I hate Jencha. Right. The person is like... And it was like a troll account against Jen Shaw. Yes. It was just anonymous. Okay. So an anonymous that he has, you know, Vantis, what's her name? Dina Vantis's face on it. And I start responding. I think I'm talking to this fashion designer that she f*** over because there's audio and video that gets released of her berating him about her outfit. There's other video and audio of her berating other staff people.
Starting point is 00:29:17 She's just an awful person and it's been recorded. And I'm like, oh, you know, and then the same person writes back, are you going to be in this Hulu doc about Jen Shaw? Because I did one about Erica Jane. And I said, maybe, and she's like, what did you get paid for that? Erica Jane, I want to know how much I can get paid. I got paid nothing. I'm like, when I go on Dateline and stuff, I don't get paid for stuff like that. I don't even think I got paid for watch for what happens live. Like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:42 There's certain things don't get paid for whatever. Right. And I go, but I'm sure they'd cover like your expenses. And she's like, oh, unbeknownst to me, it was Monica I was corresponding with. And she then gets the show. So then she stops doing that. She doesn't do the Hulu. She stops doing the account.
Starting point is 00:29:58 But it just, it just stops. Like a year and a half, no one posed. She doesn't post for a year and a half. And we meet her, and she's kind of, she's kind of fun, kind of odd. She's definitely not wealthy, but a lot of housewives aren't anymore. She comes right out of the gate with a juicy story. I, my husband's sister's husband for 18 months. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:30:17 I had an affair with my brother-in-law through marriage. Where is she saying this? All over the show. Oh, wow. Not a secret. Okay. She wanted to get on the show so bad. I think she was like, hey, I have this juicy past.
Starting point is 00:30:27 It's going to come. out, which you're smart about that, it's going to come out anyway. Muzzle come out with it, they'll like that. Right. And then also, hey, I worked for the crazy bitch that's now in prison. So they're like, we like that. Right. So they hire her, and she's very pretty. So, and she's kind of fun. And then she goes, third thing is I have this mom who's, you know, who we fight a lot. So she and the mom getting these fights on the show. And it's very bad acting. Like, I was like, what is this? And then she'd be like, the mom would be like, Monica. And she'd be like, you're such a bitch mob.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Like, it just felt like weird. And so that was weird. But definitely you weren't like a fan of the mom, but you're also like, what is this strangeness? Okay. So the whole season goes. And then there was these little weird things that start to happen with like this new girl, you know, and Monica goes, well, I heard her husband's gay.
Starting point is 00:31:16 They've been married like 28 years. There's no proof. There's no guy that's come out and said. So that rumor starts it. And it's her saying it, you know. It's just a rumor I heard. It's Monica saying it. Then she goes, and I heard that she's also in the Greek mafia, no, nothing to it.
Starting point is 00:31:34 And then Meredith is like, well, I heard that too. And it came on the DMs and someone with the DMs. Everybody's talking about the DMs, the DMs. And that's where I'm like, okay, this is what is weird about reality shows why I think it's a dangerous world. Yeah. Because there are all these fans that are very entitled. They think they should know everything about your life. They should be part of your life.
Starting point is 00:31:55 they're also really jealous they're probably women that don't have much going on in their lives are really jealous to see that someone like them could be famous and they're you know are in it they go to the a new housewife and they act like they're their friend because the new housewife only has like 10,000 followers and they're like I'm going to start a fan account you're the greatest and then that housewife starts to feel the love and it's all like and they're and with they're anonymous there's just no way to know who anybody is so Heather gay finds out from her hairdress who finally comes clean named Tanisha. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:28 And she's like, Monica is reality of antith. But what you don't know, because she cleaned, she removed all this from her account, is during that same account, during that same time that she was going up, Jen Shaw, she was saying nasty stuff about the other housewives, rumors and things and, you know, all this stuff. And then it just starts pouring out. And she had shared a lot of audio messages and videos of her and her mom fighting with Tanisha. and then Tanisha started to do her own, tell all TikToks. You want to ask that girl to do your hair?
Starting point is 00:33:00 No. Like, are you kidding me? Like, and then she like puts it all out there and is, you know, and Heather addresses her on camera. And, I mean, she's not coming back. So this was all in the last episode? This is all the last episode. And then there's been two.
Starting point is 00:33:19 There's only one reunion left, which is tonight. Oh, tonight's the reunion. The third part. So what's going to happen there? Now I'm invested. We're going to find out of Jen Shaw, the criminal, actually gave Heather Gay her black guy because she had a black guy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:33 And we never knew how she got it. And that woman is in jail right now? That woman's in jail for like six or seven more years. Holy shit. And so that is all, I mean, it did make it juicy. It did make it topical. Yeah. But with this Monica girl, she's gained a lot of fans.
Starting point is 00:33:50 A lot of people are like, I like the hustle because a lot of the trolls at home are, are like, this could be me, you know? Yeah. But I don't, as a viewer and a fan, I don't like it because I think it's really inauthent. It's one thing to be like, I'm a fan of watched every episode. Yeah. You know, I think I could like the girls. And I don't have to say I watched every episode with the cameras on.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Right. Like, I don't think that's a weird thing that a woman of a certain age is familiar with housewives. No, of course not. You know, but I think the fact that she was so active and that she went nasty and then, like, that she, And then the videos and stuff are like, oh, I'm going to be a stock. Oh, no. And actually, this girl, Monica, reminds me a lot of the grifter I dealt with with these earrings. They act a lot alike.
Starting point is 00:34:33 They have the same long hair. They talk like each other. My favorite part of all of this is that you're wearing the earrings. Oh, the earrings are cute. They're really cute. It's just so funny. But my friend, Brandi got one of the earrings, and we went out in Lakeita, and it did fall off or it did break. Is it exactly how it did.
Starting point is 00:34:50 in the same parts. Like everything was proven. So when, when, so the big part that everyone talks about is Heather, it has this moment that is like receipts, screen grabs, whatever she says, everything, I have everything. I was like, oh my God, I just, I feel like, because when you get all the evidence, you want to like shout up from the rooftops, you know, and I'm like, oh my God, I had this this one little thing happened with earrings. Imagine, oh, you know, if you're like in prison for.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Killing someone again. No kidding. My God. So much craziness goes on in reality TV. I can't even keep up, but I'm impressed how did you get in with Kardashians? Oh, so the Kardashians, I met many, many years ago. My friend Jillian Barbary was doing skating with celebrities. Okay. And she was one. And Caitlin Jenner, who was Bruce at the time, was doing it as well. Okay. That's when we met Chris Jenner, his wife, and she'd bring all the girls. And then she was like, come to my house to watch the show. So we watched the show and then we went over there for Mother's Day and then I would chop at their store smooch because my kids were really little at the time. And then we go to lunch one time. My son who just turned 18 was in like a high chair. And she goes, well, the most exciting thing happened today. She was hanging out with Paris and, you know, Paris and Nikki are no longer
Starting point is 00:36:10 friends. And they were filming the show. And Kim, they didn't know if the chihuahua was pregnant. And Kim said, let's have a pee on a regular pregnancy test. And the producers thought it was so funny. And then Paris said, Kim, I want you to be my new best friend. And I go, so wait, is she going to be on the show? Because I thought, I'm like, I thought she's into fashion. She's running the show. She's organized his closets.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Blah, blah, blah. So then, you know, then in talking, there's lots of different stories of how the Kardashians came about. Yes. There's many people that are like, I gave him the idea. I did not give him the idea. that. But right around the same time that I got Chelsea Lately, Chelsea Lately was starting, is when they pitch their show. And she's like, oh, it's going to be on E. We're going to have a reality show on E. And so she's like, oh, well, you come over. We're filming the first
Starting point is 00:37:02 episode. And that's their anniversary party, their 16th anniversary. Oh, wow. Where Kylie then gets and does the, on the stripper pole. And that came from, really, that that night that we went to go see that event. They had a different house. and they had a pool table, like, there was like an upstairs, like, kids' playroom with a pool table. And they had these, like, this old-fashioned, like, intercoms for a bigger house. The house wasn't really enormous. It was just a nice, very nice house in Calbasid. And Kendall and Kylie are like, this show is about to begin.
Starting point is 00:37:34 And so we go upstairs. Kylie has on, like, a little belly dancing outfit. Yeah. And she's on the table. And she's small so she can stand on the table. And she's doing like, and the hips don't mind, Shakira, Shakira, you know, and I'm like, this is like so cute, you know, but then Bruce was like, okay, I don't know that's like, you know, he thought maybe it was a little too much. But I thought it was like adorable. And so from all those stories, then they're like, okay, now we're going to have her go on Chris's like stripper pole or whatever they. Yeah. So then, and so then when the show started, then their show started. So then when I was on Chelsea, any time any of them came on, I would like help produce. suit or beyond it or, you know, and then I was always kind of, I think it was good that she, like, had me as a friend because I always made sure, like, nothing got too nasty. Like, I remember
Starting point is 00:38:26 we were doing a sketch and I was going to play Chloe. Yeah. And at the last minute, Chelsea, like, was like, wait, you know, it would be funnier if we had this guy play Chloe. Yeah. Because Chloe was, like, so much taller than them. Right. And I was like, look, I'm not making, I don't need the 330 that much. That's how much I got paid to be in a sketch was $330.30. I go, I didn't, like, that is, that's going to be really hurtful. Like, instead, you're going to get everyone loving it. Yeah. No one wants, nobody wants, like, a bigger person.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Right. So, anyway, we did this really funny sketch. And so it was always really easy and fun to, like, hang out. And then when she had the Christmas party, it was Chris's Christmas party. So then every year we'd come to, we'd go to the Christmas Eve party. The Christmas Evey party. And every year it got better. But for many years, it never was like A-list.
Starting point is 00:39:13 I mean, it was A-ish, but like, for many, many years, it was just those same. You know, when you go to someone's Christmas party, it's the same people every year. Yes. And you never see them again unless you go to Joe's Christmas party. So it would be like Allen Thick and all these, like, baby face. It'd be these people that I'd see every year. And then they had the scene where they're like, it's going to be a blood bath mom. Like, we are going to take over the Christmas party and, you know, and get rid of all these people.
Starting point is 00:39:38 And I just, like, embraced it. I was like, girl, go hang out with Lauren Sanchez. Like you, you, I got you when my son was, you know, in a high chair and I shopped at Smooch. Yeah. Move the fuck on. Like, I wouldn't want to hang out with me either. Like, you should be on the boat with, you know, Amazon. Like, like, it is fine.
Starting point is 00:39:58 And it's their party and they have little kids, blah, blah, blah. And I'm not, like, we're not texting. We're not like friends. Yeah. Like, close like that. And I think that's okay. Like, for the first two years, I had a hard time with it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Because it was our Christmas Eve every year. So I was kind of bummed. How many years have they been doing it? They were doing it, like, since, like, Chris first got married to Robert. Like, they did it every year when the kids were little. And then, like, the first year I did it, Kim was dating Nick Cannon. Kim was dating Nick Cannon? Yes, this is so juicy scoop history.
Starting point is 00:40:30 What? Yeah, and he came with all these fancy bags for everybody. Like, I remember seeing all the designer bags of all for gifts for everybody. Yeah. Oh, that is, it's like my goal to get my wine label in. to the Kardashian Christmas party. I don't think it's an unthinkable thing. Really? Did you see when Kylie tried this?
Starting point is 00:40:52 I have been. The cover on my phone used to be Kylie drinking my wine. I like photoshopped it. And they don't have wine yet, but so you got to get in there before they get their wine. I know. Which is like probably the only thing we don't have. Which, because they have tequila and, I mean, they have everything. I just want to see like Kylie or someone just like pouring.
Starting point is 00:41:12 Because did you see when she poured the white wine or did something on a TikTok? She had this white wine. It was like a $20 bottle of wine and people went apeshit and it like sold out everywhere. No. Yeah. It happened a couple years ago. So that's when I was like. How much is your wine?
Starting point is 00:41:25 20 bucks. Perfect. I know. So that's why I'm like. I know. They're great with their marketing and they're great. I mean, they're so successful. And I love that they have each other.
Starting point is 00:41:37 They all have each other. Like I do think it's kind of hard to like be an outside. or a family like that a little bit or like that someone that's like helping and hoping to grow with it. Yeah. Because like they're so having, you know, have each other. So like that's why like with the Jordan Wood scandal. Yes. It was like. I mean, that's her whole like tagline like you'd never go against the family. Yeah. They're very powerful. Yeah. And then I felt I but I felt like Kylie handled that so well. Yes, she was like, can we not? Do you remember when she like was like, can we stop like bashing her like we're taking a break? And then she was like, I think it was, I think this was something that was meant to happen.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Like, we can't be this close. But then they, like, went to dinner. Haven't they been recently hanging out again? Yeah. But, I mean, it was one of those things were like, you know, this was her bestie. And she was like 18 living on her own. And the girl was living in the house with her as her bestie, which makes sense. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:30 And then she went for the, you know, Tristan. I mean. So messy. But yeah, it is, it is hard. I think it's hard to then be one of those friends. and then I think sometimes just like anybody that they might get with another friend and then they start bitching about them
Starting point is 00:42:45 and then they find out and then you're on the outs and they have to be very careful if you're going to be really in there and like work with them. That's why I'm excited about the new season of Vanderpump because I'm like, now I know Katie and now I know certain stories and then I see this teaser coming up about
Starting point is 00:43:02 Katie and Tom. You saw the whole... No, I didn't say the whole season. I just saw the first episode. And Katie dates a girl and Tom's dating that same girl and I don't know how that's going to unfold even though I'm like don't tell me I want to watch like you went to the premiere I went to the premiere yes it's really good you know what I like what I really like about it is you know we know all these people so well if you follow it right and we follow them in their own lives and their own careers and their own things separate from the show so I like that the producers are not pretending that someone has a shift at sir that night right and we're really seeing them like with like they they're say Tom is doing the special forces. Like they're not saying, oh, he's visiting his
Starting point is 00:43:43 crap. Like not that they were lied before. They would maybe just not ever mention that. You know what I mean? Like if someone was doing a commercial shoot or something, you maybe, or whatever. So I like that you were going to, we're going to see as things come in, you know, with their different entrepreneurial endeavors. And I think that's the only way they can grow. But I think the show works because they really have history and they really are friends and they really do care about each other. And even if they get mad at each other, It's like that family dynamic where you're like to hash it out move forward. Yeah. And I think sometimes with new housewives franchises, it's a very hard thing to get a cast that cares that much that has that long of history with anybody where. Do you think Tom's going to get a redemption? Do you think he's going to be forgiven? I can already tell that just like anybody that gets canceled. Yeah. America gets over it. Yeah. And they just don't care. And even they in the episode kind of are a little bit like funny about like they're starting to. get to a place where they kind of like chuckle and like have some funny I mean they're all really
Starting point is 00:44:41 funny like in their own right so it's like yeah I think we just I think we just accept that he is this narcissistic like dork yeah that like loves himself and so you might kind of just enjoy him as an enemy but I don't think he'll be necessarily like rooting for him right but he is what he is he's never going to really change yeah yeah I don't know like in five years who knows you can be married with a baby it's so nice to talk to another podcaster because it's like so easy You can just like talk about it. I'm like, this is amazing. It's just you make my job so much easier. So thank you for coming on and tell everyone where they can listen to your podcast. Well, obviously everywhere. It's juicy scoop. I'm hetherbredaul.net.
Starting point is 00:45:17 I have shows coming out some really great cities that you can get there this year. And then, of course, I have the best Patreon on Earth. I've been doing that for like seven years. So if you join that, you get all of it free. And it is juicy. I can't say on the show. Yeah. It is juicy. That's very juicy. So thank you so much. I'm Caitlin Bristow. I'll see you next Tuesday.
