Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - Lance Bass & Joey Fatone | Why NSYNC Never Really Broke Up & Where They Are Now!

Episode Date: August 20, 2026

#973. It's amazing how two people can answer NSYNC questions for over 25 years... and still tell stories you've never heard before.Lance Bass and Joey Fatone are on the pod, and somehow we go... from *NSYNC reunion rumors... to Broadway... to Britney Spears... to hot dogs... to Christmas cats... and it all makes perfect sense. We get into what it was actually like getting back into the studio together after all those years, why the band never really "broke up," and what fans still get completely wrong about where everyone stands today. They share behind-the-scenes stories from the height of boy band mania, open up about growing up in the spotlight before social media, and explain why watching fame from the inside looked very different than it did from the outside. But honestly? Our favorite part of this episode is just listening to these two together. They roast each other nonstop, finish each other's stories, completely derail the conversation (more than once), and had us laughing so hard we almost forgot we were recording a podcast. We also talk about their new E! series Cocktail Wars and play a couple of games that reveal who you'd actually want to be stuck at a bar with.Whether you grew up in the TRL era or you're just here for the laughs... this one's for you.If you’re LOVING this podcast, please follow and leave a rating and review below! Hey, everybody, welcome to Off the Vine. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. Today is a really fun one.
Starting point is 00:00:30 I wanted to have cocktails here to have with them so badly, but it is. is 9.30 in the morning, so I opted out. But I have Lance Bass and Joey Fatone here. I feel like I kind of reverted back to my 15-year-old self, which again, it happened at the Backstreet Boys concert. It happened when I'm in their presence. I just love it so much. Do I ask them about Britney Spears? Yes, I do. But we also get into where things actually stand with NSYNC today, whether a reunion is on the table, the songs they love, the songs they may be dreaded. We talk about fame then versus now. And we ended up just laughing. I laughed a lot because the two of them just go back and forth.
Starting point is 00:01:06 I could have just sat here and not said anything, and it would have been a great podcast because the two of them together are hilarious. If you grew up in the boy band era or you're just nosy like me, you're going to love this one. And we also talk about their new show, Cocktail Wars.
Starting point is 00:01:19 That's Arian on E. It's so cute. I love it. Everybody welcome Lance Bass and Joey Fetone. You guys, okay, I'm so excited. First of all, I need you to know I went to Backstreet Boys and I'm truly an ensing early. How dare you?
Starting point is 00:01:31 I know you guys friends. I went to. I went to. I went to. Of course. Oh, my God, it's great. And then I wanted to know, I was like how, okay, I put myself in your situation, it's much different. But I used to get so annoyed talking about being the Bachelorette because I'd be like, God, can't we move on from that?
Starting point is 00:01:48 And then I realized that's how it all started. That's why people love you guys is from the NSYNC day. So can we just start there and then get to cocktail wars? Okay. But are you at the place where you're like, here we go again? No. But like you said, it's like what people want to hear about. That's where we came, it's where we started.
Starting point is 00:02:05 It's something we're super proud of and not embarrassed of anymore. Anymore. Well, you know, again, just like when you're in a younger age, you think, you know, the world is way, it's all about you. You know what I'm not trying to be like conceded, but you're always like, all right, I want to do what's best for me and this and this, this. And it's so overly, like, stimulated that sometimes you get lost, I think, in that kind of shuffle. And my brain sometimes when you do stuff. So it's kind of like, take a step back. I got lost on what you just said right now.
Starting point is 00:02:32 You know what? Truly, I'm... Where are that word salad? Where are we? What's the... What's today? What came in? What shows us again?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Where are we? Was this what's happening? What state are we in? What I was trying to... No, this is... It'll go like this in a minute. Trust me. I'm feeling very seen right now.
Starting point is 00:02:49 You are. Because I walked in and I was like, I had just spilled coffee all over. I had like 80 of these sheets. I had other people's prep docs in my hand. I was trying to like do the girl grip and like balance my coffee. And I was trying to like do the girl grip and like balance my coffee. And I was. I'm just, I have chaotic energy and I feel like you kind of did for a minute there and that's okay.
Starting point is 00:03:07 No, but what I was trying to say honestly was because of the fact that when we're young, you don't think about the level of the intensity of what you're doing. So you're meaning like, it's like, gosh, what I was going to say now and it made me lose a train of thought again. We'll get back to it. Is this your first one of the day? No, it's early. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Okay. This is his first interview ever. Ever. This is not good. I'm usually in bed and I wake up around two or three and then I do my show at night for Angelia. That's what I usually do right now. Oh, really? So this is like middle of the night for you.
Starting point is 00:03:34 This is ridiculous really early for me. Oh, I'm so sorry. It's okay, well, ease into it. Have you had coffee? It'll come back. No, I don't drink coffee. You don't drink coffee? High on life, baby.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Uh-uh. You're just raw dog the mornings like that? Well, yes. Sometimes I'll have like a Coca-Cola, which is caffeine. A dash of meth. Yeah. Oh, yes, of course. With the little smoke of crack.
Starting point is 00:03:50 I was going to say, okay, if you're not doing coffee, what are you doing? Meth makes sense. No, yeah, no. Shockingly not. Never drank. Yeah, I don't like the coffee. That's crazy. I get it.
Starting point is 00:03:58 When I first started drinking it, I only did it to bond with my dad. I was like, he loves coffee and hockey, so I'd be like, I love hockey and coffee. I would just like try and drink it. And then I started loving it. But that's how I liked red wine, too. My mom drank it. And I always thought it was so chic. And I tried it.
Starting point is 00:04:13 And I was like, this is disgusting. And I don't know how. I liked why red wine was good. And then after a while it doesn't, as I got older, my time changed. I did that with beer. You know, like, when you're a kid, you're like, cool. Yeah, I like beer. I like, this tastes like pissed.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Yeah. But then like, after a few times, then you're like, well, I kind of like this. extra cold, let's go. I know. It is delicious, but that's so funny. That just reminded me. I had to interview people at, oh my gosh, you know what? It was Topgolf Nashville. Chris Kirkpatrick was there. I would have mercy, yes. And I had to interview him. That's so not where I was going, but that. I love you said I had to interview him. I had to. I was forced. I was forced. And I was working my fiance at the time from the bachelor's world was working with Miklo Obatra and I had to go interview Kid Rock. And a bunch of
Starting point is 00:04:58 people like celebs that were there and Kid Rock was drinking a Miklob Ultra and I was like, oh my God, the team's going to love this. And I went up and I was like, I like that. And he was like, yeah, Miklobaltra's great if you like tooth fairy piss. And it was live and I was like, I was like, oh no, moving on. Let's go back to Chris. Okay. Okay, back to Endsink Days. I feel like everyone also, you know how the internet works. They make assumptions. They fill in the blanks. But Everyone assumes they know where the five of you stand today, but what is the truth? Oh, if we like each other? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I stand right next to Lance and do a show called cocktail. We're just sitting right now, but when we get hosting the show. Oh, we do stand. We stand. We do stand. We actually sit too. Yeah, it's a whole thing. It's a lot of work.
Starting point is 00:05:44 It's just sitting and standing and sipping. This feels like a media trained answer. No, we all, no, we all love each other, obviously. We're family for life. You can't choose your family. That's true. That's 100% true. But yeah, I mean, we talk a lot. It's always interesting because obviously, you know, the question is,
Starting point is 00:06:03 are we going to back together? What are we doing? And the fun thing is, is we get to do stuff like this to where, even though we're not doing the group thing, me and him are doing stuff together. Sometimes him and Chris will do stuff, or the three of us will do stuff. Lance JC will do things. So it's fun that now we're in a time place, especially they got kids now. I mean, I do too, but I think the whole thing about it is, now that there's kids in the play, there's a lot more time that you're spending with your children,
Starting point is 00:06:26 except for JC. lucky guy. He's got a dog. He's got a dog. Is he child free with the dog? That's how that's me right now. He's smart. He's he's one of those just jet setting everywhere and getting but now I'm living free almost. My kid's 25 and the other one's 16. So yeah. Are they really? Yeah, they're old. Wait, that's crazy. That must feel wild to have a 25 year old. I was 23 when I had my first kid and we were on tour. Wow. That's weird. Okay, that's crazy. That's called old. How old were you when when the band broke up? Yeah, like 24, 25? A little bit after that.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Yeah. Brown was two or three. 2002. One? 2001. Like, do you remember your... No, no, no. I'm talking about...
Starting point is 00:07:04 Even your daughter was born. No, no, no, 2000. You're thrown ish on everything. That's 2001. But I think we... Yeah. Yeah, around the same time. Is it crazy that to this day fans
Starting point is 00:07:13 still dissect like every social media interaction? It's what I mean. Does it make you laugh or you like get a grip or what's the... You know what? It's one of those things where it's a combination, honestly. It's one of those things that sometimes it's like, all right, I get it because we haven't done anything together as a group or something else. But then it's like, okay, how many years has it been now? Right. We're all doing
Starting point is 00:07:31 things and we're all individually doing things. It's okay to move on from things. And it's okay to remember though as well. People compare. They go, well, Backstreet Boys are doing it. Good for them. That's great. I love it. But it's so funny that people think you need to follow the same. Not everybody does. But again, people have just different personalities and different, different, likes and it's also our fault for teasing them a lot. I mean, there's been a lot of, over the years, we've had talks about doing things. We've been so close to doing things. So, you know, we were almost there. So they were right time for everything.
Starting point is 00:08:00 There's a right time for everything. But then it just didn't work out. That's a good point. I mean, to actually do that would be the most time consuming thing you guys could ever do. Yeah. It is a commitment. And think about it. You've got five individual guys now that are grown adults that have lives.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And again, like I said, because it's so hard to be like, okay, we need to take a break and be there for two or three years, literally to see if we want to do this or let this ball roll or whatever. So it's going to take some time if we decide to do something like that. Well, the people would go bonkers if you did. But there's, you know. too. I would. I'd freak the freak out. But also I feel like people always want to know why bands break up, but like I'm pretty sure you guys just got to an age where it was like, you're not a boy bed anymore, you're men.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Yeah, because we didn't really break up. Yeah. It just fizzled. When we took the hiatus, we all really thought it was a hiatus and we all started doing things and it just kept going and going and go over like, so I guess we're not going to do new music together. So it was never a, like a, hey, that's it. It's over. Yeah, it's a blow up wherever.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Yeah, I know. This is over. I don't want to do it. Somebody punched somebody in the face. See, it's taken. It would be way more fun. That'd be a better movie. That would be a better movie, but that's not that way.
Starting point is 00:09:09 If they were to make a movie, we should just, like, create that drama. Yeah, we had a fight. Well, I was thinking. I can see it. Lance and I. That's in me. Did you really? Please correct me if I.
Starting point is 00:09:20 In Florida. I went to high school in Mississippi. I barely graduated. I'm shocked. I'm shocked. It was it was really something. No, I forget what I was going to say. See, now you're in the same path that I was earlier. Yeah, I'm back to that now you feel kidding. I'm kidding. Gosh, do you think and then I'll shut up if you guys had six months free you could make something happen. If all of us had six months free that's what I mean that's anybody had six months you can make a lot of things at six months. I can crochet I can diamond paint.
Starting point is 00:09:51 I remember I remember what I was going to say. Oh, go ahead. I was talking to somebody else about how there's so much footage of when somebody makes a documentary. Like all of a sudden you're like, how did you have footage from like you're born to like in its videos of like Taylor Swift singing and dancing and doing all our things all growing up's documented. You guys would have so much footage. We do. I have a bunch of footage. You used to film.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Really? Actually, my, back in the day, I got a camera when we started touring on Germany and just said my ex-wife's was like, hey, document everything. Yeah. So I literally had the camera. And then after a while, my brother got hired to be a videographer for us and he videotaped everything. So we have, there are a lot of footage.
Starting point is 00:10:34 There's a bunch of tapes somewhere, I'm sure. Can you guys make a movie or something? We figure it out maybe one day. We got a bunch of stuff to do. Everybody, if we collectively actually put stuff together. There's rumors that someone's putting together a biopic on us. We have no involvement in it. No.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Yeah. Really? Yeah. So we'll see what they do. What the input is. Wait, I was watching Cocktail Wars last night. And you guys had, I forget his last name, Justin, from. from Sylvester.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Sylvester. He's so cute. He was really fun to watch too, but he came in and made a little Justin joke. But I don't know if it was that one or Baldoni. That's what I took it as. As I looked at both of them. I thought it was-
Starting point is 00:11:09 Timberlake because, you know, we're going to ban. Hey, come on, we're trying to change it, kids. I know. And I was like, could you just go along with Eltonic? Could you just go along with it? I'm trying to divert. This was the way I was doing it.
Starting point is 00:11:20 No, but yeah, I don't know. You want to divert from Timberlade to Beltony to Beltony. Sure. Sure. that. Okay. I love this. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:26 He made, he made, but we thought, I thought it was funny. It was funny. No, it was hilarious. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:11:32 I'm like, ah, they did the thing. But I feel like everyone always wants to know about Justin for sure, but I actually want to know what it felt like in
Starting point is 00:11:39 2023, 2024 when you guys all got back into the studio together. It was like riding the bike. It was. I was going to say, it was either like riding a bike and like so familiar
Starting point is 00:11:48 or like really awkward. When the studio, sing your part, do this, do that. Revert back to your 17, 18 years old. The fart jokes, all that.
Starting point is 00:11:57 I mean, just, it's like no day has passed. Yeah. And that was really, it was a special time because we didn't know we were going to get together and do more music. It just, the opportunity landed in our lap for trolls. We ended up recording, no one knows this, we recorded three songs that day. Did you really? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:13 You know, so we were just, you know, having fun. It was just like old times. And then unfortunately, you know, things happened where that's when the strike happened right after trolls. So we weren't even allowed to talk about the song. Yeah, we were at the VMAs and we did that with, you know, Taylor Swift. We couldn't even like speak of anything.
Starting point is 00:12:32 We couldn't do anything. And we were all down to do something together. We were really talking about it. And then the strike really screwed everything. Yeah, like last minute there was a premiere for it and we literally scrounge around to go to it. Yeah. It was like everything was like last minute because after the strike, but it was right. So you can blame the sagged.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Yeah, I'm gonna blame them for that one. Did you guys get invited to Taylor Swift's sweating? No. I mean, I did. I mean, I got, you know. I was supposed to perform, but I declined. I was doing Angulietta. Yeah, you're a little busy.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I declined just because the other guys didn't get invited. Yeah. So out of respect, I didn't go. That's, yeah, that's very fair. You're welcome. The gift bags look great. Dude, did you see that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:12 What's up at that? They got all kinds of Chanel bags. Yeah, someone won a car. Yeah, someone want a car. Oh, like this is the type of wedding I want to go to. What kind of wedding does that? Hey, I'm going to give you guys stuff. What kind of wedding is a tail?
Starting point is 00:13:23 MSG. She's a giver. She is a giver. But I would have a national treasure. I understand that, but give her a bracelet, a friendship bracelet. I gave her a friendship bracelet. Yeah, we know you did. What did she give me? Not a goody bag. Not in a goody bag. You didn't get a car? I just want to let you two go. This is what happens on the show. I know what you're gonna see.
Starting point is 00:13:43 It's so fun. We'll be shooting the show over on the couch and talking and we're like, oh crap, we're doing something. We're doing something. We're doing something. Well, here in our ear, like, can you yell out? You got five minutes. We're like, why we're talking. Yeah, we're busy. That's so funny. I feel like that sometimes when I podcast with my friends, I forget that I'm doing a podcast. And all of a sudden I'm talking about very inappropriate things. I'm like, oh, we're rolling. Okay. Got it. I want to know when you guys, like, knew that you were pop culture history, like a part of something really big. I don't know if we ever kind of knew. Because when you're doing it. Yeah, you're in it. You don't know what's happening.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I think the only thing was is around us. Like, for instance, like, you know, we wore the Fubu jerseys. And then all of a sudden, everybody started wearing a few. I think that's when things where you started to do something and then people. were trending it and doing it. Yeah, you're kind of like, trendsetters. And this is before trending. Trusted tips is taken off. Exactly. What?
Starting point is 00:14:28 My stepdad did frosted tips. I wonder if he got it from you. I'm sure he did. I mean, come on. Frosted tips, down your hair, red. Literally when we were living it, we didn't know how big it had gotten.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Right. We started very humbly in Orlando and we couldn't get a record deal. Then we moved to Germany, signed to Germany for two years. So we were kind of living this weird life that didn't seem real. It was like an out-abodd experience because everything that we did over there. there wasn't like big to us. So like if we did like some big show over there, everybody's like, oh my God, you did the show? I'm like, yay, we don't know it. If we did like Jay Leno or something on here, then we go, okay, that's a big Joe. We're just, yeah, okay. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:05 We didn't really know, understand how big it was. And then, of course, we didn't have time to watch television or listen to radio. So we didn't know, we didn't know how big the group was getting at the time. Right. Which was kind of good that we're just living in the normal world. I was wondering if you like, because you guys really had to work for your career where, And people still do, of course, but there's TikTok and it's very. You can go viral. It's instant now. You didn't have to wait online to get a CD or buy a ticket.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Back in our day, we had to go to every radio station in order to get a single played. And now you just kind of get in front of a camera and visit all the radio stations. We can just do off the vine and then not have to do anything else. It's true. This one would just blow you right up. This is all you need. But it's true, though. It does branch out.
Starting point is 00:15:48 We're back in the day, you literally had it either recorded or you had to watch it Yeah. What is something people romanticized about those times that you're like, no, it was the biggest grind of life. Oh, my gosh. I mean, everyone thinks it's so glamorous. Yeah. Oh, the best is what you see videos speaking of all documentary stuff. Like videos that I have, all of us are sleeping on the floor in the corner and the cat. Wherever you can. Anybody we got a chance, we tried to sleep. Somebody was sleeping in some way, shape, of form. And we were sitting there from like 6 a.m. We would do a photo shoot all the way up until 6 or 7 p.m. and then have to go out to dinner with the record company and then schmooze and all. And by that time, you're just a zombie. And you're like, okay, I'm ready to go to bed. Can we just do what we really came here to do and perform?
Starting point is 00:16:27 Right. That was, again, that was the hard part. That was a grind. No, I can't even imagine. And thank God you were in your 20s, but still, who is the biggest, like, diva to travel with? Me. No, I'm kidding. No one was really a diva.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Really? Yeah. I mean, we talked about not being a diva. We had a security guard that was our security, our manager, and our wardrobe person. There were times that we would travel and the wardrobe trunks would sit there and he would go, oh, I forgot to put it at the cleaners. And we would wear these nasty, sweaty outfits that were in a case that traveled from one country to another.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Oh, yeah. Oh, this is bad again. This is like, you know, we were 16, 17 years old. We had, we were all five. We were very close. We were best friends. Yeah. And if anyone, you know, got their head too big or, I mean, you'd be slapped down immediately.
Starting point is 00:17:15 We'd make fun of you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what friends are for. There was no divas. Okay, I love that. You never know. but everyone has a favorite n-sync song, of course.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I want to know what your favorite n-sync song is. I thought she knew. Yeah. I thought she knew. It was our first original acapella we ever learned. And I mean, we learned that in 95
Starting point is 00:17:34 and we didn't even put it on an album until 2000. Crazy. But the harmonies, just Robin Wiley, who arranged that, just absolutely incredible. Cool. And then the other song that I love,
Starting point is 00:17:48 it makes me ill. Really? That's mine. Oh, no one? Yeah. I love that song. It's dude's favorite song. Like,
Starting point is 00:17:55 if you ask like a guy that's like an insane fan, they're like, it makes me ill. That was the one. I'm like, yeah, I know. It was so good. I wish we were released that.
Starting point is 00:18:01 It was a banger. Also, I love gone for the same reason of the harmonies and all that. And it was just, oh, I love that one. Yeah. Those were your two.
Starting point is 00:18:10 And yours was that one. I thought she knew was my, my main, my jim. And there's, and tearing on my heart always. Oh my gosh. For our second single ever,
Starting point is 00:18:20 that was a, that was a, Oddly enough, I still like everything I own even know it's a cover. It's on the European album. Was there one that you guys dreaded performing? There's many. Riddle. Riddle.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Why? Here we go. Here we go. I need love. It's the old stuff. Yeah. When we were, you know, we lived in Germany. We were kind of testing the waters with what our sound would be.
Starting point is 00:18:41 And so, you know, we tried a little techno. It was the sound of the 90s. I like the two step, though, was good. The two step was getting great. Two of us was good. That was like 2000. Now I'm trying to remember all the songs. Yeah, the techno didn't really work for us.
Starting point is 00:18:53 No. You were just figuring it out. Yeah. Well, we tried. Yeah. Oh, we tried. Yeah. Some people try country when they shouldn't.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Yeah. That happens. We did country. Well, God must have spent a little more time. We did a do it with Alabama. You guys, I remember sitting in my bedroom, turning up, God must have spent a little more time and sobbing in front of, I can picture my exact stereo system that I had. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I just was feeling and crying. And my girlfriend would get so mad. at me because I'd always listen to your sad songs to cry over boys. That's what was that's what it's there for. That song in particular really touched a lot of people. I remember when it came out, the stories we would hear from people and like a lot of sad stories. Yeah, it's interesting, but moving, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Yeah, but a lot of, it saved a lot of people's lives. Oh, you know what, I bet. Yeah. Isn't it crazy? Music can do really powerful things for people. It does, it does heal. It does help. It does cope.
Starting point is 00:19:48 You know, it's everything. Whether it's sad or whether you want to get thrashing or hit rock or something, it has every mood, which I love. It's true. I feel like I always say this to musicians where I just say like it's so crazy that you could write a song that means something to you and somebody else could listen to it. It could change your life but mean a completely different thing to them. And I just love that music does that for people.
Starting point is 00:20:09 I don't know about you guys, but once we hit that weird little in between season where it's too warm for sweaters, but it's too cool for the summer dresses, I just live in denim. It's what I do. It's the one thing I never have to overthink. throw on a great pair of jeans, a tank, white tea, maybe a blazer or a leather jacket if it cools off at night, throw it over the shoulders and you're good to go. This is why I always find myself browsing Macy's this time of year. I say this time of year, all times a year. They have so many great denim styles, whether you're into wide leg jeans, relax fits, or those timeless
Starting point is 00:20:36 pairs that you'll wear for years. I just love trying to new silhouette every once in a while, but I also appreciate having those classic staples I know I'll reach for over and over again. And if you're standing in front of your closet thinking, I need new jeans, but I have no idea where to start. Don't worry. Macy's has a curated denim style guide that makes finding your favorite pair so much easier. It takes all of the guesswork out of figuring out of figuring out what works for your style. Because let's be honest, can you really ever have too many great pairs of jeans? I don't think so. Head to your local Macy's or visit Macy's.com to shop the latest denim styles and find your new favorite pair. And I love that you're on Broadway still doing the...
Starting point is 00:21:17 Hey, I love performing. That's my thing. It's not jam. So it's like for me, anything to do Broadway I'm going to do theater. It's lovely. Theater. I just love it. I need to come see that. Wait, didn't, because Charlie's not doing it anymore. No, but she was, yeah, I was doing it with her, though, at that time, yeah?
Starting point is 00:21:33 Because I remember seeing social media clips and I was like, oh, my God, you go. Because you came on my podcast a long time ago. But it was in COVID, so it was over Zoom. And I remember feeling, like, proud of you when I saw you abroad. I was like, you go. It's been fun, yeah, no. It was really cool. Theater.
Starting point is 00:21:48 I've speaking of the internet and just how much they can't stop talking about things. Can I talk about Britney Spears for a second? If you wanted to. Go for it. I always want to. What about her? I'm obsessed with her. She, I remember I was on her website once as like being a big Britney fan because I went
Starting point is 00:22:03 around for her concert. I went to find a fake snake to go around my neck and I documented it. And like back then this was people didn't vlog and I put it on YouTube and it ended up on Brittany Spears.com. And I thought, I'm cool. I was like, oh my God, where can I go from here? Only down. But I feel like she's just still one of the most talked about celebrities in the world,
Starting point is 00:22:24 which obviously you guys have spent time with her and know. But when you see headlines about her, what is your first reaction? I mean, look, we love the girl. Obviously, she's like a sister. Yeah, yeah. She's actually my cousin. She's actually my real cousin. She's your real cousin?
Starting point is 00:22:39 How did I not know this? She's actually a bass. We share. Stop it. Stop it. Is our great, great, great-grandfather. That's kind of cool. It makes sense because we're going to be.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Yeah, you southern people. Yeah. We're like an hour from each other. But we will always support her. She's, you know, a lovely, great girl. And, you know, we always just wish the best for her. Of course. She's, you know, living life.
Starting point is 00:23:02 And you, like, knew Brittany, like, you knew her before the world. She's her little sister. That's literally what she was. But it's kind of, like, do you ever look and think, like, that can happen to anyone in your industry? Mental health and everything else is just very important. That's true. So you just kind of got to, you know, roll with the punches.
Starting point is 00:23:20 in life and everybody has their own journey. Yeah. And that's a tough part about life. It's how you navigate. And it's just for us, I think like we said, we kept each other in check. Well, that's what, yeah. I was like, it's tough.
Starting point is 00:23:31 She was so lucky that we had each other, yeah. Because when you're when you're solo, like it's just a lot of pressure. Yeah. You get, I call it the Michael Jackson syndrome where you don't get told no. Yeah. And that can just change your reality for like, well, that's just like, it's anything with actors or, you know, anybody in the line light when you're that celebrity and it's and it goes that fat for especially people nowadays when it's that rapid,
Starting point is 00:23:53 they don't know how to handle the celebrity and they think they want it. They're like, oh yeah, the money, the fame and this. And then it's like, no, people are going to want to know about you every day. They're going to want to know about your life. And then you're going to get some people that are really interested to know anything and everything about you. And it gets a little creepy. So it's like, how do you find that fine line? How do you figure out what that fine? And you know, again, some people find some people don't. You know what I recommend? Especially when you start so young. I know I hear this a lot with, you know, teenagers. are famous like kids and and then everyone was like well you chose that you chose I was like no 13 year old
Starting point is 00:24:24 chose oh I want everyone to just dissect every they're only thinking one yeah they're only thinking one thing I want to either be famous I love to be on TV I love to be appreciated or loved or I want to write new music or I want to be an actor it's like they don't think about the other consequences no and people always when they say like you signed up for this but you don't know what you're signing up for you have no idea I always say I was going to say I recommend just go on like the bachelor and then you get like a tiny taste of it and then you realize, ooh, this is kind of scary
Starting point is 00:24:51 and then you can, yeah, and then people don't care about you as much as they would like the A-listers and then you just get a little taste and then you can just stay in your lane. Like, I don't have to go with security. I don't have to worry about paparazzi, but I can like share my life with people.
Starting point is 00:25:05 And that's why what's great about being in a group because I was never, I was never that main focal point, thank goodness. And I'm happy I'm not because guess what? I can go out and I can go on a plane. Do people recognize me? Yes, but it's not to the level what it used to be back in the day, which is nice.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I love it. I'm happy. And we're adults now. Women are adults, and if you're acting that crazy, something's wrong with you. No, something's wrong with me. When I was at the Backstery Boys' concert, I was like, Caitlin, get a grit. But you're reverting back, but that's not wrong with that.
Starting point is 00:25:31 You reverting. I was. I was. It's the past. You're reverting. I was. I was 15 years old. It's different if you have a shrine right now.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Oh, yeah. That would be different. Yeah. I only have Nick. That's fine. That's fine. It's not. Just keep it in your, just put in your,
Starting point is 00:25:46 closet. It's okay. My favorite thing is when people reinvent themselves constantly, and I feel like you can at any age. I feel like you've both done such a good job at that instead of just like trying to stay in the past. No, life's too short. Have fun. I'm not going to keep going back. I mean, I mean, I can't do red tips. That's not a good idea. You could visit. Yeah. Exactly. And get nostalgic, but you're literally. Yeah, I'm not Uncle Rico where I wish I could have played, you know, pro. I'm not going to keep thinking about that. Oh my God. I like Napoleon Dynamite. Yeah. So good. No, exactly, but that's the thing. There's a fine line where some people, like you said,
Starting point is 00:26:20 they're living in the past, but there's some people that you're reminded of the past, but you're still moving forward. I think that's what we've done. No, you guys have done a really good job. I love it because you're, like, when I see your guys stuff pop up, I get still giddy and hyped because I'm like, oh my, I feel like I'm having fun doing it, too, you know what I mean? I think. Well, you both look great.
Starting point is 00:26:39 But thank you. I fake out of it. And it's been nice to grow with our fans too. Yes, no, that's what I feel. not all, you know, 14 anymore. And I think we're, you know, we have age-appropriate things that we're doing now. There you go. Like drinking cocktails.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Yeah, but it's like elevated mixologist cocktails. You're not like drinking a tequila. No, yeah. We're not doing body shots off of people and stuff. No. Well, I mean, that could be a segment. But you're back on Broadway. I feel like we kind of touched on it before we even started recording a little bit on the pod.
Starting point is 00:27:08 But is Broadway more nerve-wracking than performing in arenas? Or what is the day? Yes, because the theaters are a lot smaller. You can burp and they can hear you. You do anything on stage they can hear you. If you're doing anything in the audience, we see and hear you. So it is very small. I love how it's the intimacy of it.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Obviously with arenas, it's great and everything else. Obviously, with the band, it's performing. And I could be myself. What I'm doing shows in theater, obviously, you're being a character and you're playing this. It's fun. I love it. Wait, that's fun because did you ever do acting?
Starting point is 00:27:41 Yeah. I did my stuff back in the day. I did actually, I did Broadway way before and right after InSync, I did rent on Broadway, I did Little Shop. Rent was in 2003 and I believe Little Shop was 2004. I did two shows. He actually would. You did hairspray.
Starting point is 00:27:58 He did hairspray. Oh, I love. Then at the Beninem Theater, which is in Pittsburgh, I did 42nd Street and the producers and then Rock of Ages in Vegas and now I'm doing Angeliette. So yeah, I've done some theater. But it's a blast. I love it. It's always been my passion back in the day.
Starting point is 00:28:11 And after Insink, it was like, what would you love to do? do and I was like I'd love to do Broadway. Yeah. Chance to play Mark on rents. It's a beast. Talk about a grind. Eight shows a week. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:20 It's no joke. It's tough. That's really something. You have no nightlife. You have no dinner's evening is gone pretty much and you have one day off. And how long is your, how long are you doing this? Thank goodness not as long as most people do, which I have done it before. I've done six months.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I've done it. I've never done the year, which is a grind, but I've done almost, for Angelina, it's almost a total like six months and now I'm coming back and in and out a bunch of of times with one of the guys from the original cast. And then you also produced Boy Band Confidential. Did making that documentary change how you view your own career? You know what? It just opened up my eyes to other people that I've never met before, like some of the
Starting point is 00:28:57 other bands. But the interesting thing about it was is because I've always said, you know, you always have these interviews. You always have somebody else doing the interview. And every time that happens, it gets either stale. They're digging for something dark. They're trying to find something. So every time I had somebody, I had Lance and I had a bunch of different people like
Starting point is 00:29:12 Jeff Timmons, Nicholas Shannon. I said, hey, just tell me your story from the beginning. And I was there for every interview, did everything. If I wasn't there in person, I was there on the phone. And it opened up a lot more. And it was almost like, listen, say what you want. And if you don't want anything, we'll cut it out. Totally fun.
Starting point is 00:29:27 But it was amazing how they opened up. I got my boy Jason that was actually before Lance came in the group, got him to interview him and talk to him and go, what happened? Like, why did you say no? And how do you feel now? What have you been doing? And there was a couple of interesting odd moments, like when you get this question. And I'm standing there looking out, like,
Starting point is 00:29:42 you left this and you could have had all what happened. He just, he didn't want to be in a boy man. Yeah. And it just was not standing. And he thought about it. It was wacky. That was a thought. I was sweating.
Starting point is 00:29:52 I was like, geez Jason. But again, he even said he goes, no, I'm totally cool with it. I go, if you're cool with it,
Starting point is 00:29:57 great. If not, we don't have to do this. Right. So it really, it was an eye opening for a lot of different things. An eye opener and to show people that this even happens probably right now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:07 So people that are out there looking to be in a group or looking to, that things could happen. And there, just be your, keep your eyes and ears open to a lot of things and really look at the history of boy bands and what they've done and what other managers have done and did and what they shouldn't be doing. So it's that kind of a thing. And I think it was just really nice to see that.
Starting point is 00:30:25 And a lot of them, it was very therapeutic for them. A lot of people that did the interview was like, thank you for doing this because I was not able to tell my story. You know, same thing with Ashley, Ashley, actually never done that from Otown, never talked about Lou. And he opened up. So again, it's, and the greatest thing about it is is everybody has gone past. or has been still dealing with their own way, but have moved on from it. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:47 Because again, met the love is, you know, it's a breakdown for most, a lot of men too, because a lot of guys do keep things in. Oh, absolutely. And it's also a cautionary tale. You know, it's like we tell these stories over and over again to warn young people out there getting into the business, like what to expect.
Starting point is 00:31:02 And sadly, you always hear the same thing. They're like, yeah, we know. Of course. But we're still going to sign that contract. I know. Because what am I going to do? It's, everyone has to learn things the hard way. and it's that's unfortunate, but I feel like it's so true.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Know your limits, know your limitations, know what you're comfortable with, and not comfortable. That's basically it. But people don't know until they, but that's why we're doing these documentaries and telling people, but they don't listen. They still try to figure it out. I mean, when your kids, you're stupid. It's true. We make mistakes.
Starting point is 00:31:28 We make mistakes. And no matter what, because you want what's best for you and you think whatever you're doing is the best for you, which it is, but it's not the same time. Sure. I always tell the same thing with my kids. I don't expect you to listen or do 100% what I'm telling you, but listen when I'm telling you. but listen to what I'm telling you
Starting point is 00:31:42 because I've done these things before. Yeah. And I kind of know maybe your route is different, which is fine. Yeah. But just listen. People are promising in the world, you believe it.
Starting point is 00:31:50 Yeah. It's so true. Gosh. Quickly, fat ones keeps growing. Yep. Did you ever imagine? Well, thank you.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Did you ever imagine? No, it's wacky. I started almost 10 years ago now, and then we're opening up at Universal City Walk. You know, it's my little hot dog baby. It's called Fat Ones, my last name. And it's a hot place. It makes me very uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:32:12 No, it doesn't. Talk about it. Well, you know what's even funnier is there's a place in Chicago, and I was going to use this name, and it was called Chubby Weeners. And I'm not kidding you, it's in Chicago. Lollapalooza, they sell it out there right now, still doing it. It's actually a friend of mine. It's my girl's best friend's company.
Starting point is 00:32:26 That's awesome. And how that spun out was as I wanted to franchise that. And I was like, you know what? Let me see if I can do it on my own. And that's how I have fat ones. And it's been great. It's very excited that's going to be opening up in September, Universal City Walk. And it's like my little baby.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I didn't want to franchise it. I've been doing different things with it. And yeah, I'm excited. That's really excited. What would your hot dog be? Yeah. Would my hot dog be? Like, what do I put on it?
Starting point is 00:32:46 Yeah. Because we have the boy band. There's a boy bander that we had. We're getting those. Yeah, we should be getting those. I'm going to trust me. Okay, I'm a freak though. I feel like I love to overdo a hot dog.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Go for it. Like, I want it all. I want sourcrout. I want relish. I want ketchup. I want mustard. I have one called the fat one. I know it sounds funny, but it has everything on it.
Starting point is 00:33:04 It's like cheese, pepperoni, French fries. I would try that. Yes. We have a Greek dog that's really good that's coming out. We have, oh, it's amazing. Greek dog, I have a pizza. It's called a Tony, but to New York, really. What is your favorite hot dog?
Starting point is 00:33:18 I'm straight, you know what? I don't know. We're going to probably do a limited time at one point. The mac and cheese. Mac and Daddy, which is a literally, it's a hot dog with mac and cheese. She's named after Joey McIntyre. There you go. I do have a Fonzie.
Starting point is 00:33:31 We have a Fonzie. The Louis Fonzie. I do. I do. We're still doing more flavor as well. What would yours be? We could do a pride one. That'd be fun.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Why does that I have to go gay, Joey? There's more to me than being gay. Why, because you're straight? I mean, what are you mean? For him, it's me. Yes, all day long. It has to be like a frosted tip thing. We can do that.
Starting point is 00:33:53 You know, white onions. A little shaved like onions or something like that. We'll figure something out. My favorite would just, I like a sausage dog, would just yellow mustard, not spicy yellow mustard. Just straight up classic. I don't know why New Yorkers don't understand just yellow mustard. It's got to be spicy.
Starting point is 00:34:06 So yellow mustard, sauteed onions. I'm talking about caramelized onions. Okay. We can do that. And I'm pretty simple. I'm going to leave it at that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Fair. Yeah. I also want, I like very simple. Like I just want ketchup. Just ketchup. Yeah. Same way.
Starting point is 00:34:22 I'm a simple as well. I love ketchup on everything, though. Okay, Lance, you have a children's Christmas book coming out called Mrs. Claus. I love when people do a children's book. I think it's the sweetest thing ever. Where did that idea come from?
Starting point is 00:34:33 Okay, I'll tell you this story because my publisher doesn't know this yet. Uh-oh. It's not bad. I love that. So, you know, I started getting into children's books, you know, years ago. And I started with trigger treat on Scary Street because I love the holidays. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:45 Holidays are my thing. So I've always wanted to do this, you know, trigger treat book. And I had kids. I'm like, okay, now it's time. Yeah. And then I have a follow up with Scary Street. And I, you know, was on the phone my publisher to talk about that. She's like, yeah, great.
Starting point is 00:34:57 But we need you to do Christmas next. I'm like, oh, okay. And so on the call, I'm like, I have this idea that I've been wanting to. to do about Mrs. Claws. And I'm totally just pulling this out of my ass the whole time, Jess, right? She was there. I'm like, you know, and I kind of had this thought years of the past.
Starting point is 00:35:19 I'm like, okay, yeah, I was like, yeah, Mrs. Claus. And then I thought about my book. I'm like, the black cat from Scary Street. I was like, everyone thinks that Mrs. Clause is Santa's wife, but actually, he's gay. No, that's not even close. But in my head, I'm like, he's gay. And his name is Joey.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Mrs. Claus is actually his cat. C-L-A-W-S, Mrs. Claus. And the cookies you leave out are for Santa and the milk you leave out is for his cat, Mrs. Claus. And so this is the origin story of Mrs. Claus. It's very cute, Lance. I love it. You pulled a very great story out of class.
Starting point is 00:35:54 That's brilliant. Let's go. I'm like, oh my gosh, how did I just do? Like, what? So, yeah. But some of those ideas that some things like that come out of people's butts is usually the fun. Also, was this, well, like, you have,
Starting point is 00:36:05 had kids in this moment. So I feel like your imagination is able to run a little more wild. And they were so obsessed with cats. They have identified as a cat since they were three months old. Stop it. I swear. It's crazy. They love, love cats. We don't have a cat. My husband's allergic to cats. We're dog people, but I love cats. But yeah, my husband's very allergic. And I'm sure my daughter is too. So, yeah. So I knew, hey, you have a husband? What? Wait, what? So yeah. So I, that definitely inspire me. My kids definitely inspired this. Isn't that funny? They're like when you have kids, all of a sudden, you start doing more kid stuff.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Everybody does that. Every celebrity that when they finally have kids are like, I'm going to do kids movies. That's all I think about it. But that's the thing you live in that realm. It's amazing. But it's just, it's very amazing where you would never think some people would do it for doing it for the art and being a movie for you know what I mean? The many you have a kid. You're like, I have to do this now.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Because we all just want to impress our kids. Oh, no, trust me. They don't, they don't care about insane at all. They care about. Trust me. I was walking in Disney World in the park with with Brianna, which he was very little. and I see the Wiggles shooting on Disney property. I grabbed my kid and ran like a fan.
Starting point is 00:37:11 That was me, ran going, Brianna, you know who then? I went and I stopped and go, I'm doing what fans do to me. I can't believe it. I was like, you know what? I'm going to say hi. I'm like, I'm looking around. I knew we knew the makeup people. You'll do anything for your kids.
Starting point is 00:37:25 And that's why I'll never get upset with parents or fans in the public going like crazy and bothering you because I'm like, I know what that feels like. Totally. I feel like being a parent changes perspective on a lot of things. Oh my gosh. So, you know, you try to impress talking about kids. So blippy, right? So there was, my kids love blipy, loved because I think they're like outgrowing. So I happened to like meet him one time. Like, okay. I was like, and he's like, hey, what would you like me to come to the house and meet the kids? I'm like, are you like, yes. So, you know, the kids come home from school and blipy's there. Stop it. And the first thing, my daughter says, like, it's not the real blipy.
Starting point is 00:38:03 You're like, but it is. They did for like a couple months, they swear they're like, that's not the real blippy. I'm like, I got the real blippy here. Yeah. Trying to poo-poo all right. I'm going to want up on you. I had the wiggles come to my house.
Starting point is 00:38:16 You had the whole wiggles. Dave Brown brought all the wiggles to my house. And Captain Feather Sword was swimming in my pool. You're kidding me. It was one of the most amazing. I had no kids there though. I even said, I said, we're going to do this because I had my house back in the day. My pool was enormous.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I'm like, hey, we're going to have you guys come if you want. to come on your day off because they were here and they saw my kids saw the show i said but i'm gonna have no kids so you guys can enjoy yourselves and it was great we had a great time what is like the biggest card you've pulled with being like a celebrity to say like um like with a different celebrity like blippie's mine for sure okay that or gabby no but it's just always funny like when we meet like friends of ours that we've known for such a long time obviously from kindergarten stuff like that and i'll introduce them to somebody that they've been a fan of us something like that That's always a start.
Starting point is 00:39:02 We're like, honestly, one time I think it was where, I think Justin came over one time with Cameron or something like that, many moons ago when they were dating. And all my friends were just standing there by the pool just watching her. I'm like, dude, stop. Cameron, D.S? Dude, yes. I'm like, normal.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Stop, dude. What is wrong with you? We were in New York, record maybe one of our first times recorded New York. And Paul Abdul was also in the studio. And, you know, like, Polab freaking duel. And then I just had to pretend like, my mom loves you. and got my mom on the phone knowing it was me the whole time. My mom probably didn't even know who Paul Abdul was.
Starting point is 00:39:35 I'm like, I need you to talk to my mom. I'm like, no, I'm the fan. I feel like people do that all the time too, where they're like, can I take a picture? It's for my mom. I've done that. It's to Lance. I've done that.
Starting point is 00:39:46 It's from my daughter. It was really for me. Sean Lowe, who is the Bachelor a long time ago. He said, Caitlin, you'll get to a point where girls come up to you and say, my mom is a big fan. I'm there. I'm there. It happens all the time now where everyone's like,
Starting point is 00:39:57 my mom loves you. I'm like, oh no. Well, at least you don't get, like, what we just got recently. What? Which one? Grandma? You know, this I want you back dance trend is blown up, right? So now all this, like, Gen A and Gen Z are just loving I want you back, you know?
Starting point is 00:40:12 And so there's all these kids. They're like, Mom, are they still alive? They thought that we died. They thought that we were not alive. All of us. Oh, no. Dead band. Dang it.
Starting point is 00:40:22 But you know what? It's funny because now you've got to think about it to them, we're the same way we listen to the Beatles. To the 50s. No. We are the 50s. That's crazy. But that's kind of iconic. But it's still weird.
Starting point is 00:40:34 I know it is weird. It really is. It's wacky to think how you start to go. Yeah, I remember back in the day when my dad listened to such and such and now. And it like recycles into the next generation of, yeah. It is whack. It is whack. Now, I don't know who needs to hear this, but what do you want to watch is not for play.

Starting point is 00:42:16 Oh, yeah. We have a show. I have to tell you, me and Lance, I've been together for quite some time now. This is all breaking news. Michael's getting divorced. I knew that this would happen on my podcast. This is what you get out of us. I love it. You're so good at what you do. Gosh, how do you do it, Caitlin? Nine years of podcasting. It's brought me to this moment. I feel like this show is a perfect fit. I was so excited that I got to watch two episodes
Starting point is 00:42:41 because it was, I just smiled the whole time. It was so fun. And I feel like it's a perfect fit for the two of you. How did it come your way? How did you decide on doing this? They approach us. I mean, you know, E and the CA, honestly, came up to Lance, came up to him and then went back to me
Starting point is 00:42:57 and said, hey, we loved you to do the show, blah, blah. We know you have obviously history. Yeah. And we have toured around and tasted many different drinks, around the world and, you know, and not to see responsibly, of course. But we, you know, it just is a perfect fit. Those are the kind of things that we love to do and things that get a little bit outside
Starting point is 00:43:12 the box, but still has our personality and the things that we love to do. We love to drink, let's be real. And to do this show and to do it with celebrities and have these three, you know, mixologists come up and they compete and they get a chance to win $10,000. It's fun. It's a blast. And I would never think, when we were talking about this earlier, why didn't anybody think about this? It's always the competition shows.
Starting point is 00:43:31 You see all the cooking ones, all these other ones, you know, super-mars. and sweet back in these weird shows. Why not a drinking? Well, I also feel like in the time we're in, it kind of drinking went down for a bit, and then people realize that the loneliness epidemic is actually much worse for your health than going out and having a drink.
Starting point is 00:43:49 That's true, yeah. That's what I love about the show, too. I mean, you can tell he wanted, you know, a couple hosting the show, you know, and people that had history. They were cooking. A married couple, something like that. But this is my work husband,
Starting point is 00:44:03 obviously. Because I think, and like you said, yes, for a while they're kind of dipped where people just didn't care to drink them, but now people are appreciating. Yeah. It's not so much of an excessiveness of drinking. It's not like to appreciate a good cocktail. Here's the chemistry. It's like breaking bread.
Starting point is 00:44:20 You know, it's like people come together and, and yeah, people need to just bond more. I agree. I'm just love this. I'm learning now where like, yeah. You can do that with. Like, I want people on Tuesday nights to get the girls together. over, let's make a Cosmo and watch the show and just catch up for an hour. But why can't I make a Cosmo? Does the girls just have to make a Cosmo?
Starting point is 00:44:41 You can have a Cosmo. Thank you. I do like Cosmos. Yeah. The one that that girl made for the vacation one. She did a spin on a Cosmo. That looked really good. There was a couple. The Hot Tottie one was really good too. I'm also getting so inspired because I actually, well, I bartended for a long time, but I was always, I made cool drinks at this restaurant that I worked at. But I like, I love cooking and I love making drinks. And I love having people over. I love hosting. And it made me want to like try to drink cocktails
Starting point is 00:45:08 and make different things for people. But I was about to say, I was about to say, when you're cooking dinner, you got that history of like, well, I made this and that. And you start talking about the same thing now with drinks. Yeah. People are really getting into it to where it's like,
Starting point is 00:45:17 it's becoming like this big ordeal, like, you know, how to smoke the drink and how do I do this and then I'm going to muddle that. And then you learn about the wash lines. Yes. Well, it's a fun activity. You kind of get bored of the same thing over and over. So I need like an experience.
Starting point is 00:45:30 And I'm excited because every, Tuesday night now at my house I'm inviting six people or because I can have eight people at my dining table and so we're going to have a nice dinner party before the show and then we're inviting a mixologist over and you know as the show is going everyone that comes as a guest kind of sends their favorite ingredients ahead of time to this mixologist and when you leave that night you're going to know your signature drink we're going to try different things and figure out what your cocktail is what a fun experience and then we go live on Instagram and kind of show everyone like like the drinks that we were making and the show made and kind of as we get older,
Starting point is 00:46:05 that's what we're more about experiences. I agree. No, I really agree. And the show kind of brings you into that experience. Like, I'm telling you, I really watched him as like, I want to do that. I want to have people over. I want to try different cocktails. I want to learn from an actual mixologist.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Like, it's really a fun show. Who out of the two of you became the biggest cocktail snob? Well, yeah. Yeah, but we both have. We've branched out. We've learned, yeah. I've never really. drank a lot of things with gin before.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Oh, I love gin. We both were not gin people, but now we're like, okay, we could see what it does and what it can do. Yeah, see, when you do, like, gin straight up, well, no, see, I love it because I love a gin martin. Yeah, you're weird. See, I already knew that. Hey, knock on yuck you young.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Gin was ruined for me when I was probably, you know, 15 years old. That's the story. You know, the older brother of the friend brings a hot bottle of gin because like, oh, just, you know, give these teenagers, you know, so I think it was the first thing I had. drank and so we drank hot gin, tastes like pine trees. So for 20 years, I never drank it because it just reminded me of that moment. And now I love it because of the show I've branched out to so many different things. I'm sure, yeah. And then who accidentally sampled a few too many? Both. Both. You know what's funny? There's different, obviously, companies that come up and they've had
Starting point is 00:47:24 diplomatica and we have Jack Daniels. And I've never tried like Jack Daniels Blackberry, right? It was so good. So now every time we were like, we're going to have a shot right before. So every time we come in, celebrities get out. You have to taste it. Every celebrity guys has to do a shot of Jack Daniels. I love that. And we've been very more sophisticated on sipping things more and not, you know, again, back of the day, like, yeah, let's shoot it.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Totally. Now it's more like, okay, did you taste that? Did you taste that? Because now you're looking for the notes and the like different things. Yeah, it's really. It's a symphony in your mouth. It is. Wait, do you know why people cheers?
Starting point is 00:47:59 No. You lived in Germany? And you, I learned this while I lived in Germany. Please tell me, because I didn't know. It was from back of the day, you want to make sure that they weren't poisoning your drinks. That's right. That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Oh, I never heard of it. I did hear about that. Yes. You're just like Rachel Maddo. When Rachel was on the show, of course, hindsight, you're like, of course she knows everything. History behind every drink. Oh. She's just brilliant.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Well, I also had a wine label and I grew up, my mom was just like, she loved the story telling behind wine making. So I learned to love that. Then I got into the restaurant. Then I learned from a Somali and then I fell in love with the storytelling of wine. And I feel like I always just thought that way about wine. But now I realize that there's so much with cocktails that people do. Just the way they barrel thing. I mean, just like how long it's aged.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Or if it's barreled and there's one thing I know about like, yeah. Or sometimes if it's barreled and then put in the ocean, the water has something to do with the actual current of it. Really? Oh, I've heard of a whole bunch of stuff. Canyac, yes. For some reason I've learned about, don't ask me why I know this last best. Cognac West. No, but no, Louis Xirteenth and also there's another one in Hennessee that they make.
Starting point is 00:49:09 I can't remember it's like Henry or something. But literally because of the fact that the ocean of it in the barrels will make it move, but also from the seawater, it does have another flavor to it because it gets inside the barrel. It's gracky. It really is. It's a chemistry. It's a whole science. It's fun to nerd out over cocktails and like instead of just drinking it and girl.
Starting point is 00:49:26 You never think about it. It's like, oh, this is yay. You were a teenager. Now you're like, okay. That's what we love. I'm a sophisticated. It's like Melissa Brooke, who's, you know, our expert on the show. You know, we started out the season as, you know, we thought we were expert.
Starting point is 00:49:39 No. We learned so much from her because we'll drink. You're like, oh, that's great. She's like, really, try it again? Yeah. Or she'll start telling us things that had happened in it or what they did or that. And I'm like, I don't know what this is. Yeah, wait.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Tell me about Brooke. How did you find her? Wow. Melissa Brooke. Well, we, well, we didn't find her specifically. Melissa Brooke. Melissa Brooke. Yeah, she's a huge mixologist.
Starting point is 00:49:58 She's, she's been bartending for many years. restaurants in New York. I mean, she's just an expert. It's wacky because there's things that I've never learned were because, of course, you need a wash line, which I never knew about. Wait, tell me about the wash line. Well, it's got to make sure that the line,
Starting point is 00:50:11 the wash line is where the line is from the alcohol to the glass. And then if you have the same drinks, it's got to be the same line. It usually is a round of drinks. It shouldn't be different levels. Okay. Then there's a thing called a flip where you add a full egg into the drink. And sometimes you usually just use the egg lights to get the foam.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Yeah. And then there's another thing called, I don't even remember what the heck it is, but it's another agent to me. make foam if you're, if you don't want an egg or you're more of like vegan. Yeah. Oh, crazy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:36 There's, I'm learning. And why are you not supposed to put a big cube in a coop cup? Oh, because it's going to overflow though, right? Oh. Or just, I don't know. I didn't even know what a coop was until I did the show. You guys are really learning a lot. No, we are.
Starting point is 00:50:49 And every time I came like, what's that? What's this? What's that? So three people always compete. They have a chance to win $10,000. You guys are the judges. You bring in celebrities. And you just have fun.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Yeah. That's awesome. It's a blast. I really love it. It's not rocket science, we're not making, you know, surgery brains. Yeah, I know I said it that way. Surgery brains. I said it that way on purpose lands.
Starting point is 00:51:09 That's why I looked at you, sir. Yes, sir. Gosh. But I feel like people are craving just a nice fun show. I mean, I fall asleep to murder mysteries all the time. And last night I fell asleep to Cocktail Wars and I had nicer dreams. It's fine. No, but that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Again, it's one of those shows that you can watch while you're cooking and while you're drinking in the background. Yeah. It's really, like we said before, we started recording. It's one of those shows where you're like, How has this not been done before? And that's when you know you have a good show. Okay, I'm going to play a quick game with you guys and then I'll let you go.
Starting point is 00:51:37 You're letting us go already? I don't want to, but hey, I can continue to talk about Britney Spears if you would like. Okay, the game is who would make the better bartender? So out of the two of you, who would get drunk for a set of cocktail competition? Lance. Lightweight? No. Depends on how much you drink.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Because, I mean, you got a couple episodes. It depends. It depends. It depends. on how much I have to drink. It takes a minute. Depends on what you eat in your day too. That too.
Starting point is 00:52:03 That's fair. Okay. He eats a lot. Takes a little. Who's between the two of you, who would send a drink back? Who's the one that would send a drink? Not me. I wouldn't, I don't know if I would send it back.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Unless I will tell you what. Yes, I would. There's many times where I'm like, can I get a captain in Coke? And all of a sudden I'll get something like cracking, which again, nothing wrong with it. It's a different rum. Yeah. I know out of the gate what it tastes like.
Starting point is 00:52:24 And they're like, no, it's a captain. I'm like, no, it's not. I know exactly what it is. And they're like, no, I'll go back there. And they're like, oh, sorry. After a couple drinks, Joey would definitely get passionate about things. I get passionate about it. I would never see anything back because I know I'm going to get, you know, spit in it.
Starting point is 00:52:38 I know. I did work in the restaurant industry, so I do know that. Oh, no, no. I'm watching the bartender if that happens. If I bring the drink back, I'll watch it. You can't watch the cook in the back. No. So it had a little bugger in it.
Starting point is 00:52:49 You didn't see that. A little bugger sugar. Bougar sugar. Bougar sugar. You know what I saw on TikTok? is that people feed their dogs, their own iBookers, and call it Scooby Snacks. What the hell is wrong with people?
Starting point is 00:53:02 I don't know. And people were all in the comments going, I do this too. And I was like, why would you do that? Like, who even thinks about that? The only thing that dogs do, and I even don't do it is like, I'll scratch my dog's ear and then the dog will want to lick it.
Starting point is 00:53:13 And I'm like, no, I'm going to wash my hands. You're not going to lick this. I love how you were just so, like, blasphemy, but you're the one that came up with booger sugar. It just comes out of my mouth. No, I love it. That's me. Who has the more expensive taste?
Starting point is 00:53:28 Yeah, me. Yeah. Come on. I like the fine, look, I say first class, why it lasts, okay? Yeah. Whatever. Okay, who would accidentally reveal a secret after two martini? Lance, 100%.
Starting point is 00:53:40 Damn, we got martinis. Probably me. Too bad it's 9.30 in the morning, otherwise I would have brought martinis. You word it rightly and he'll just open up. You word it in a good way. I like to talk. I do, too. I do too.
Starting point is 00:53:52 That's why I do it for a job. Who took the longest to get ready in your boy band era? Justin, probably. Only because when he had the curly hair. Oh, was that like a... He would sit in front of the mirror. I mean, that was his hair.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Yeah, but you had to like put... The ramen noodle hair. Because after a while, that's why it started to throw out because I'm sure he got annoyed. Yeah, he's like shaving it off. He's like, forget it. But yeah, you know, take an extra 20 minutes, you know,
Starting point is 00:54:16 to leave. Yeah, I don't know. You like how I threw that in? It's totally not a part of who would be a better bartender. I just wanted to know the answer. Yeah, no, we just... It happened back in the day. I don't know now.
Starting point is 00:54:25 It might change. this this has turned into just a who is more likely to um who is okay who holds a grudge longer between you two but i mean i don't hold grudge i don't you don't we kind of we kind of move on i don't i don't forget true i'm a true torus true true i feel that we don't forget but uh we forget but we forget but we forget very quickly okay that's nice um who has the most celebrity phone numbers in their phone probably lance oh i mean i mean i mean i I would think you. Why would I?
Starting point is 00:54:58 Well, you just have a different level. You live in California. You're missing, hanging out with Vanderpump. You're here with the Kardashians. Don't, don't, don't, dude, you get it. I live in LA. Listen, I'm like, and I'm not belittling nobody, but I'm not belitt of nobody, but it's like Kardashians and I'm with Ryan Cabrera.
Starting point is 00:55:13 I mean, come on, it's completely two different things. As far as I think you have more on your phone, but it's a different level. Yeah, exactly. That's, are you friends with the Kardashians? I've heard they're so sweet. I mean, I've known them since. Oh, you have? before they were famous like really yeah back in the day oh that's sweet you gotta think we
Starting point is 00:55:30 were all back in the day everybody was hanging out the bars and clubs so true at that time like everybody I always say I'm like and you didn't have to worry about cancel culture no I'm see in LA I always say I'm kind of like the starter celeb for people yeah Chris Brad yeah yeah what's the starter slip um so I'm kind of like you know I you know I like to go out and I meet everyone and I obviously interview people a lot so I get to meet a lot of people and so when people are just starting out, I'm kind of like the first starter celebrity and we become like friends, and then they kind of go off and do everything and forget about me. Well, so I was like,
Starting point is 00:55:59 did he do a video? He did an interview that he met you, the first celebrity that he met. Really? Yes. Chris Pratt? I didn't even saw the interview. I was like, really? I didn't even know that. Yeah, it was on the Tonight Show. I remember that. Now, I love Chris. Chris and Honor were super good friends in my dad. Oh my God, I love Honest. I went on her podcast and I didn't know she watched The Bacheloret and
Starting point is 00:56:17 we like bonded. What about a Ben Stiller? Go ahead. See? I love Ben Stiller. used to hang out with Ben back in the day too. He put me in two of his movie. Exactly. Wait, were you in Zoolander 2? Just Zoolander 1. You were in Zulander 1?
Starting point is 00:56:30 Yes. I forgot the walkoff in the walkoff. I get murder. And then also Chuck and Larry as well. Well, that's Adam Sandler. I know. I'm just saying the movies that you were in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Chuck and Lay, what was the other bin still? Oh, I did Chopic Thunder. Yes, right. Oh, that's iconic. Oh, you are. Yeah, you guys, I feel like you both have quite the resume of like sneaky, sneaky career stuff. Why not? I swear it was for years, I got Zoolander more than Insink.
Starting point is 00:56:53 Like, really? That movie was huge. That's what you know. I love that I had guest Zulander 2. I remember because we were here in New York and Ben was like, you know, I really need you to do this movie. I'm like, okay, so he sent the script. And I'm like, this is the worst thing I've ever read my entire life. Like this is how is this being made?
Starting point is 00:57:09 It's so dumb. Like so dumb. But I'm like, of course I'm going to do it. So I was like, well, just come watch us. And we're here in the West Village at the gas station on Horatio. Orange Mountain Pratchititos. Yeah. The gas we fight.
Starting point is 00:57:23 and all that kind of stuff. And I'm like, what the fuck is this? And then I watched the movie. I'm like, this is brilliant. Oh, my God. It's always interesting when you see something on paper as opposed to when you're seeing it shot. You go, okay, now it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:57:35 Oh, it's, I think it's in my top three favorite movies of all time as Zoolander. I mean, that's, yeah. Will Ferrell also said in. I was just about to say the elf, yes. He was like, this is the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life. I bet. I read it.
Starting point is 00:57:47 I bet it's just sounded so dumb. They thought it was going to be such a flop and it was going to like tank his career. Big fact, Reguette. was a $5 million independent movie didn't think anything of it and it became the biggest romantic comedy about it. I remember you brought that on the tour book
Starting point is 00:58:00 and it wasn't even that funny. It was a VHS tape. I'm like, check this out. Oh my gosh. I'm like, incredible. I love it. Okay, this is my last question. Who would win Cocktail Wars if you two actually competed against each other? That would be interesting. You have to do it. I think this is what would happen. Joe would ultimately win because I would overthink things like, I'm going to do this.
Starting point is 00:58:19 I'd be a simple creative. And then at the end, it wouldn't get, you know, it wouldn't be right. it wouldn't taste right, and then he would do something simple and just win the whole thing. That's what happens. That's what happens. I've done that before.
Starting point is 00:58:29 I've done that with a grilled cheese before. Yes, exactly. You do. How many episodes are there going to be of this show? 10 right now. 10. Okay, awesome. Everybody, be sure to check out Cocktail Wars on E
Starting point is 00:58:38 and Catch Joey in Juliet. On Broadway through the end of October. If you're in New York, pick up Lance's new children's book, Mrs. Claus, when it comes out September 29. You can pre-order now. Just go to Amazon. Pre-order now.
Starting point is 00:58:51 That makes a big difference for you, right? it's good if people pre-order. It's great, yeah. I'm going to go pre-orders right now. Because, you know, the last book, you're so, you really want to, you know, become a New York Times bestseller, right? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:59:01 They wanted it. And so we did get that. And now the same time, I'm like, I don't have to worry about that time. It's like, okay, okay, I don't care about. That's exactly how I feel about in sync. If we ever go back together, we're not looking for a new album.
Starting point is 00:59:11 We don't need to do any music. That's all old stuff. We've done that already. You've done it. It would really be for the fans. It would really be, well, and for you guys, I'm sure. I mean, I like to perform that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:22 It'd be funny. We're doing it just for you. And they just put us on strings and just pull us. I'm just in there. The strings? I can't. I feel like I'm reverting back to 15 now too. Thank you guys so much for coming on.
