Plus, you've got icons like Glenn Close, Bill Nye and Will Poulter in the mix. Talk about a dream cast. Now, what I love is how Marissa pulls you right into Lizzie's world, her stubbornness, her wit, her messy family dynamics, and of course, her complicated feelings for Darcy. Starting point is 00:02:30 Shopify supporting independence. ready to shake things up here's katelyn all right welcome to off the vine it is good to be on off the vine buffalo recap that was such a different voice you went up like two octaves yeah i'm bringing the energy because if i go down any octaves i'm going to be sleeping so i'm bringing it which means we did buffalo right i'm on e right now and i'm putting every little bit of energy i got right into this microphone are you no way is that wine oh the one thing about buffalo new york is the people are great the conversations are engaging the drinks literally don't stop and the food is just endless the food is not only endless but it's so bad for you it's an abundance like it's just so much food
Starting point is 00:03:46 in abundance is so right yeah like every time every meal i've ordered it doesn't just come in a little cute plate it's like here's a meal that could feed a family of six and then i'm like well i can't leave food on the plate my gas has never been worse you have two your toots are out of control out of control that is that what buffalo does to you yeah well here's the thing about buffalo we got the toots we got the you got the toots yeah so they need to do like a um kind of like a drunk food like they need to do a drunk food convention because
Starting point is 00:04:22 I am convinced that if they did a drunk food convention everyone out there listening you've got to have your spot when you're hammered that you go to right but Buffalo has the best drunk food the best hot dogs in the world the best cheeseburgers the best chicken wings in my opinion the best pizza
Starting point is 00:04:38 I mean it's endless the tacos mighty taco we got Loganberry first of all let me just preface this whole podcast by saying you're getting a two-parter today. Jason and I are going to do a little Buffalo recap, say our favorite moments, talk about our weekend, and then we're going to, I have a live podcast that I did with Elizabeth Smith, who is my skin guru, my Botox Queen, and my friend, and she's going to talk about my exact routine morning to night, skin care, all the must-haves, and if
Starting point is 00:05:12 you follow her, then she's going to do a little story about it as well. So, first part, Buffalo, second part, skin. Let's get our priorities straight here. So what were you saying? Oh, so the drunk food convention. I think, like I think about the Buffalo drunk food and it's just to die for. But then I lived in an area called Rochester for a little bit, and they have their own unique drunk food too. So they have something which you didn't get to try, but it's called a garbage plate.
Starting point is 00:05:38 And in a garbage plate, in a garbage plate, okay, remember drunk food. So remember you're hammered, you're hungry, come back. But I'm not going to order something called the garbage plate. So it's in a styrofoam, you know, like styrofoam. Well, not styrofoam. It's not a plate. And you could have it several different ways. But the main thing is that you have two cheeseburger patties.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Gross. Home fries. Decent. And macsallad. All in one plate. Macaroni salad. We call macsout all in one plate. You could also have chicken fingers, home fries, mac salad.
Starting point is 00:06:09 You put hot sauce on top. Buffalo? Okay. And that is a garbage plate. but I feel like every city, and, like, I want to hear Twitter. You got to come over a better name than garbage place. That's what it is, though. Like, every city has got to have their own good drunk food.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And I want to see what else is out there. What do you, okay, what's Leduc, Alberta? What's Edmonton's drunk food? I'm at, I don't know. Is it Putin? I think it's just McDonald's. Really? Yeah, Putin's more like East Coast, I think.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Am I wrong in thinking that like every town kind of has their drunk food spot? I think you're just, look, people from Buffalo are just passionate about the funniest things. Like. The best. The best was when we. got to Buffalo and this i'm sorry to interrupt but it just so correlates what you said when you um you said katelyn and i go stop to stop to stop and literally we got grocery store good restaurant place to get chicken wings and i go so what do you think of buffalo so far it's the first four minutes
Starting point is 00:07:02 she's like the first four hours you're like this place is like a in amusement park yeah because it's just like there's so many stupid stops like sorry but like you're stopping for all the these little different snacks and I feel like when I'm at amusement park I'm like well I want to try the donuts the mini donuts I want to see what their pizza's all about I got to get the cotton candy and it's just like then you know you go to this one bar for wings and every hour they play let's go buffalo and I'm like god your town like you're very passionate about the simple things in life which I can appreciate but it's like you're passionate about obviously football go bills you're very passionate about chicken wings everybody's very concerned about which place we got wings
Starting point is 00:07:48 this weekend like oh you got wings where'd you go oh dust and very passionate about your grocery store weggmans wisemans legmonds if anyone out there's been to one you know what we mean and if you haven't been you need to go to a wagman i've never seen someone so excited to show me a grocery store they're headquartered out of rochester by the way grocery Grocery or grocery? Grocery. Yeah. Yeah, but you're just so, you literally skipped into the grocery store and you're like,
Starting point is 00:08:20 Tournament? Welcome to Wagmans. And it was like you did. It's funny. Retrospect, like looking back at it from a high level, I'm like, yeah, I guess that's pretty pathetic. And I can't wait to show you our grocery store. And a drive-thru taco place.
Starting point is 00:08:33 That's very average. So good. Mighty Taco. I'm sorry, but it's very average. So good. But, you know, the people in Buffalo are fantastic. I think we actually, we weren't, we didn't have many stories out there this weekend. I thought we had more pictures and stories, but that's because we're so engaged in these conversations.
Starting point is 00:08:52 And I would say people in Buffalo are such, I'm sure it's home, but they're such good chirpers. So the chirping was just non-stop this weekend. Also, the interruptions. I get told sometimes on my podcast, like some of the trolls will be like, Caitlin, you always interrupt everybody, let other people talk. And I'm like, have you been to Buffalo? Why do you say that? You know exactly why I say that. I'm asking you why you say that.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Because every conversation at a dinner or a gathering or somebody's house or a bar, every single person will not hear the other person out. They're just like, let me be louder and make my point over yours. And I can't get a thought in. And I'm the interrupter. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm usually the interruptor. And I was like, hey, and I couldn't get a word in. And Buffalo people are just, they're loud and proud.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Yeah, I never realized how, like, loud we were until I traveled. And I would be in, like, Seattle or Nashville. I'm like, oh, my God, we really are loud. At dinner tonight, we're with, you know, we went to a Sabres game today. They won. Great, great game. We were with a couple of your friends. And bless this guy's heart and soul.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Nate? Nate? Oh, such a gem. That guy needs a podcast. That guy is unbelievable. He's taking this turn in life. before he has decided he's going to go on Christianmingle.com. And because he, you know, he's been through some hard times, some good times.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And he's, he's, you know, started to get a little faith, which is great. And we were like, do you want us to pray before this meal at dinner tonight? He goes, yeah, I'll bless your food. Literally just like that. It's like, you're fucking right. We will. Excuse me, wait, wait, what? Everything that came out of his mouth was so quick that it, like, took a second to register how funny it was.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Like, yeah, I'll bless your food. Or certain things, and he's, like, going through his profile on Christian Mingle. And he's like, yeah, I want to, you know, he's just hilarious. He's so funny. The people you meet in Buffalo are just top-notch, the best kind of people. Your friends are incredible. Your grandpa is next level amazing. His wife is great.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Everyone's just very, you know, simple, outgoing, loud and proud. Loud and proud. That's what we are. How would you say that differs from your hometown, like Ladook? Well, what do we have to be loud and proud about? It's not like we're known Yeah, but that's what I mean But you are known for you
Starting point is 00:11:16 Buffalo Wild Wings You're one funny thing is I didn't realize it until this trip But I'm going through K You know you go when you've introduced someone You're seeing anything to back home You tell everybody Okay, you're going to meet these people
Starting point is 00:11:28 These people these people And I'm going through all that I'm going Are you going to meet Jacoby You're going to meet Tico Mariano Lamporelli shop Okudo
Starting point is 00:11:38 She's like What the hell Italy Yeah, I didn't realize that. But now I'm laughing, thinking about it, I'm like, oh, I mean, you don't have an Italian last name. It's Tardick. But you think you're Italian. Well, do you see why?
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yes. And so many things make sense. I'm like, you know, I'm out for dinner with your friends. They all have slick back hair. They've all got a cigar. They've all got, their sleeves are rolled up with their little button-up shirts and their sports coat. They're all drinking wine. and little pinky rings on.
Starting point is 00:12:13 No, come on. Yep. Well, first of all, hell yeah, good for them. That's their style. I'm not saying it's pink. I have one guy who's just, I mean, every one of my friends, like you say his name, they're like, oh, boy, there's Joey. So, uh, Joe is, is the guy. He always has a Robert Graham shirt on.
Starting point is 00:12:31 He always has pinky rings. He's got the necklaces, the cigars. He's out of, he's out of a movie. He's out of a movie. He's the funniest guy ever. Are buffalo people typically from the mafia? No, actually, I think Buffalo is predominantly Polish, actually. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:47 But it's good to know, Joey. Joey's a good guy. No, great guy. That's one thing I'll say about all your friends. They're such characters, but they're all, like, to their core, good people. Yeah, really good. That's the thing. At the end of the day, like, everyone has an element there.
Starting point is 00:13:01 They're funny or goofy or loud, whatever, but they're really good, good people and such, such loyal friends, right? Right. There's no substitute for that. Like, there is no substitute. for just strong friendships in life. It's everything. All right, everyone, do you own or rent your own home? I'm sure you do, and I bet it can be hard work.
Starting point is 00:13:19 I know from experience. You know what's easy is bundling policies with GEICO. Geico makes it easy to bundle your home owners or renter's insurance along with your auto policy. And that's a good thing, too, because you already have so much to do around your home. Go to GEICO.com, get a quote, and see how much you could save. It's GEICO easy. visit geico.com today that's guycoe.com
Starting point is 00:13:44 one of your friends that is from i believe rochester david okay is he from rochester okay so he wrote us a group text and he goes so how is uh the tour the w n y western new y um how was it this weekend and i said well i'm i'm eight pounds heavier i'm pretty drunk pretty cold and being a vegetarian has gone out the window so i think it went well because that's literally all I have done is Buffalo is great food, great restaurants, great scene and I was telling this to your friends.
Starting point is 00:14:18 You know when like you're in California or something? Oh, I'm from Buffalo. Oh, so sorry about that. And Buffalo gets such a bad rep. But I think it's because of the bills because they haven't had like a good win. Because when you come here, if you even, you know,
Starting point is 00:14:33 if you choose to come here, it's a great city. But it's interesting. It just goes back to marketing and media. The thing is, is the only attention a city like Buffalo gets or for anyone out there that lives in a small town, usually your rep is correlated with whatever national coverage you get. And Buffalo's national coverage is one or two things. There's sports teams completely blowing it or an absolutely brutal blizzard. Then I'll get national coverage.
Starting point is 00:14:59 So there's so many cities. I think Cleveland is another one. Cleveland is such a great city if you go to visit. Columbus, another great city if you go to visit. But some of these cities, Detroit, you know, obviously has its ups and downs and challenges, but there's areas of Detroit that are so great. So before you judge your city, go see it, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Can I also, I want to, I'm thinking I'm going through all these cities and I was thinking Toronto. I don't know if you guys know this story. This has nothing to do with Buffalo. Gary, Indiana, Gary, Indiana, not in Louisiana, Niagara Falls. I just saw that because Niagara Falls is super close. Go on. What was that?
Starting point is 00:15:34 It's a song, Gary, Indiana, Gary, Indiana. Not Louisiana, Alabama, or Niagara Falls. Wow. Okay. So, Caitlin didn't realize how close Canada is to Buffalo. Like, it is. You can literally throw a football, like that close. Toronto is about 90 minutes north.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Now, this is a wild story that has nothing to do with a trip. This is a very geographical podcast. Yes, but this is the coolest thing. So for anyone out there in hockey, right, you got two goalies. Hockey. And then what happens is you have an emergency goalie. and an emergency goalie has to usually be somewhere in the odd or accessible to the arena if one of the two goalies gets hurt.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Which is very rare. Which is outrageously rare. So for the Toronto Maple Leafs, I'm sorry, not for the Toronto Maple Leafs, for the Carolina Hurricanes when they're playing the Toronto Maple Leafs, the gentleman that was in the stands was the emergency goalie, 42 years old, and he's the Zamboni driver. Yes. His job is to drive the Zamboni.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Zamboni for the team will both goalies in this game get injured well wouldn't you know it wouldn't so they have to call this guy who drives the Zamboni watching the game with his wife 42 years old to come play in a professional NHL game and suit up how much do you pay do you think I think what happens is that some I mean you might you know this too because we dated a former hockey player but what happens if you're in the HL and then you play the NHL they get all excited because there's a league minimum and you'll get paid that amount for that night so if there's a league minimum i don't know if time ahead let's say it's 500 grand yeah 250 or 500 grand so for that night obviously they pro rata it and you make a good 150 dollars what's that yeah i'm talking k right
Starting point is 00:17:21 so if and let's just say it's oh my gosh your your calculator is always on hand let's just say big numbers go over just crunch it could be anywhere from like three to seven grand a game i'd have to figure the numbers out but anyway so this guy gets called up he has to go in the game his team is up they're up four to one against toronto this 42 year old puts on the pads first two shots go in so the scores this happened yesterday the score is now four three still supporting him like they're like so obviously the coaching strategy changes just shoot the damn puck of course long story short this guy holds on to the win and they win six to three six to three or six to four and he broke all these records like oldest guy to come in a game at that point
Starting point is 00:18:05 his wife was like never playing and win in an hl game cool story fun story you know so hot yeah would that fire you up yeah you think they had a good night yeah if if you like got called up for some sort of like freak weird thing where you had to go in as a hockey player or a football player or something and you just like took the w wait did you when you saw that i play in that celebrity football game did you did that fire you up or no Because I was playing against, like DJ Moore. I was playing against the, I don't know. That is.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Football doesn't really do it for me, to be honest. No. But when... I should have known. Canadian. I mean, I thought it was hot that you were athletic. What? I think, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Yeah, it was hot. Totally, baby. You were so hot. Okay. No, I like that. Anyway, this wine is very chardonnay, whatever I got from that. I can't drink anything else. I mean, that's...
Starting point is 00:18:59 It really has been quite the... weekend you know out till four in the morning a couple nights meeting all your friends you have a really really good solid group of people in your life so it was really cool to see that's awesome I appreciate that and I think I think that's like at the end of the day that that's it if you got you have good friends and family that's that's everything you know how when we first met you were in Seattle and we did a podcast yes and we played a little
Starting point is 00:19:29 game called Buffalo or Bluffalo Oh, I remember this. Okay. Are we doing it? I'm doing a Bree edition of Bree's Buffalo or Bluffalo game. Okay. Okay. So Bree has come up with the Bluffs.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Okay. And remember last time that some of the facts sounded like bluffs. So don't just try and, you know. Let's make this fun. Let's put a bet on it. Okay. What's the bet? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:57 You tell me you're the big bet guy. Big bet guy. What would be a fun? No, how about, we'll put a bet on it. Some people could tweet us, fun bets, and then let's just say pick winner or loser, and then the winner gets to pick whatever if someone comes up without a tweet.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Okay. Done, let's go. Okay. Good luck. Good luck to you, sir. Good luck. We should make up a little theme song for it. That's already a thing.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Okay, it goes like this. You're the singer here. No, this is just a little theme song. Release your music. Release your music. A little theme song like, It's time to play. Ladies and gentlemen and girls, it's time to play Bluffalo or Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:20:44 If you guys could see the dirty look, Caitlin's giving me like so turned off. Yeah, you ruined that moment where I thought you were hot for a second at the football field. Okay. Are you ready for this? Let's go. With the help of Niagara Falls, Buffalo became the first city to have widespread street lamps in 1886. Okay, so this is a wild fact that I do know that Buffalo was the first city in the country to have electrical lighting on their streets.
Starting point is 00:21:19 And I thought it was 1866 or 1886. So I'm going to go, final answer, that is Buffalo. That is a fact. Let's go. Okay. I can't even, I can't even talk of them. So buffaloed out. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:21:33 How does a buffalo boy get buffaloed out in two days? Because I can't hang it. We live in Nashville. We don't go hard on like buffaloians. You ready? Yeah. The nickname, the city of no illusions, stems from the 1980s when locals had to endure lots of good news,
Starting point is 00:21:49 but lots of bad news as life in Buffalo was great, but still not perfect. This sounds like some bullshit to me, so I'm going to say buffalo. No, it was Buffalo. Wait, what is it? That was the biggest, like, nonsense statement I've ever heard. Yeah, it was kind of weird.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Yeah, what? Bree, you're killing me. What is this? No, that was a fact. She didn't make it up. Oh, you're right. Why'd you pick that, though? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:16 The first mayor of Buffalo, Jim Lawrence, drowned in Lake Erie trying to catch a beaver. You know what? It sounds obscure, and when you get obscure, it's got to be Buffalo. Oh, what? Buffalo. No, it was a bluff. No, I said Bluffalo, and then I switched.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Go back, rewind it. I did say Bluffalo, but you're looking through the off. Yeah, Bluffalo. Too bad. Your final answer was Buffalo. We'll have to rewind the tapes. No, you said Bluffalo first. It's all there black and white, clear as crystal.
Starting point is 00:22:53 So you get nothing. You lose. Good day, sir. What are we at? What's the scoreboard at here? two one two one okay you keep track two one here we go buffalo wings didn't originate in buffalo new york they originated in buffalo ontario bluffalo that is a bluff why because they originated in buffalo new york there was a bartender who was cooking some food her kids just came back from hockey and she had to
Starting point is 00:23:24 like come up with what she was going to create so she just took chicken dyes and threw them in the chicken wings put them in the fry and those have never been created threw a little hot sauce on there and there you go okay three to one oh i can't wait for the bets i need some good bets on twitter because it looks like i'm gonna win it okay buffalo has close to 1,000 restaurants bluffalo they have more than a thousand that's a fact it says a thousand there's a thousand Tim Horton's here. It says Buffalo is quite the foodie town with close to 1,000 restaurants, so that's a fact. I mean, it's a foodie, okay, three and two.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Okay. Patriot star Rob Grancowski, Hales from the Buffalo area. That, it's true. That was one of the facts on here. Okay. Williamsville, New York. Buffalo was originally supposed to be named Bufle, Buffalo and French. and here's how I know this is a
Starting point is 00:24:28 Bluffalo because Brie and her husband speak French so that is the biggest nonsense That's a good Bluffalo though Bufle I kind of want to buy it
Starting point is 00:24:39 like eat a bouffle Bufle or Bufle I don't know I was reading it through a text Bufle Phoebe Bufle Oh my gosh Friends Reunion is coming back
Starting point is 00:24:50 Really? Yeah they're doing a Friends Reunion show Wait so they do a full series I don't know If you have one friend's character Who would you say you are Easy Rachel
Starting point is 00:25:01 Really? You think I am? Oh no, I'm asking you Yeah, I'd say I'm a combo Yeah, I'm Rachel And who would you say I am? You're Ross Like 100% Ross To a T
Starting point is 00:25:15 Wow You are Ross Geller I have that shirt That she is my lobster Yeah, you don't even get it Yeah, I do All right. So Mr. Chris Harrison was telling me about this crazy party Hulu through in Beverly Hills with all the biggest reality TV stars from like every show. And now I have to watch the commercials to see what happened like everyone else. I don't usually get FOMO. But in this case, I have extreme FOMO here. Luckily for you, Hulu has the reality TV that you love. So start your free trial today at Hulu.com. Anyways, how do you feel about reunion shows?
Starting point is 00:25:51 what's wild is that like i was on uh yahoo finance we're talking about blockbuster like blockbuster is doing these pop-ups now and the whole 90 resurgence is like full-blown back in action and then i was talking to a speaker agent and they were telling me that right now at the highest rates the people from like the office in friends in some of these old shows from the 90s are booking at rates they've never seen before so there's something like really peculiar going on with the whole 90s thing like why is the 90s thing like why is the 90s coming back why is it they were selling blockbuster sweaters for like a hundred dollars and people are buying them off the shelves so what the hell is it and i mean it kind of looks cool like if you look
Starting point is 00:26:33 at some of these like sweaters and goosebumps remember goosebumps yeah do i remember goosebumps are you afraid of the dark hey arnold all that snick need to keep going it's like the thing everyone's try no you can actually stop um that's the thing that's like back in action the question is why Okay, I have to just, I'm trying to think of, like, relevant things right now because I was thinking about the Friends reunion. So I don't even know if I heard anything you just said. But did you see on the internet that Jake Paul? What do you mean? You didn't hear one thing I just said.
Starting point is 00:27:06 No. Sorry, it's not because I didn't care. It's because I was literally trying to look up this Jake Paul tweet. Okay, go for it. Did you hear about this? No. Okay. So, apparently he was around.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Zane, who is part of One Direction, who Gigi Hadd has been with off and on for a long time on with right now. So Jake Paul tweeted and said, almost had to clap up Zane from one direction because he's a little guy and has an attitude and basically
Starting point is 00:27:37 told me to fuck off for no reason when I was being nice to him. Zane, I know you're reading this. Stop being angry because you came home alone to your big ass hotel room. Stupid, chirp. Dumb. Awful chirp. Like, you know what? I'll tell you what that tweet is i know what it is i fucking want attention someone give me attention and retweet it
Starting point is 00:27:57 and probably tried to like force himself on zane forced himself on zane's like i don't know who you are i don't care who you are that's what these guys are these paul brothers gee he did clap back which well you know what jason tardick would not here's where i'm like why g why are you doing that why give him the attention now he just won so she said l-o-l because he doesn't care to hang out with you and your embarrassing crew of YouTube groupies home alone with his best friends like a respectful king
Starting point is 00:28:24 because he has me sweetie unbothered by your irrelevant ugly ass go to bed which I'm like well okay and here's my thing I'm like oh I totally if somebody was talking shit about you I'd probably clap back
Starting point is 00:28:38 if Jake Paul says something about you I would throw out a tweet but the thing is I'm like okay you don't need to say sweetie I hate what people say unbothered by you sweetie because it's like you don't really mean to call him sweetie and you clearly are bothered by it and that's okay yeah it's it's just it's so childish i'm swearing a lot to sepso because i'm back in
Starting point is 00:29:00 buffalo but it's you know all my buddy just worrying too much but anyway it's just so childish and listen the paul guy all he just wants his attention he just got attention he just that tweet right there just did everything that he wanted to do so he's gonna make the headlines he's back in the game gg responds to him and it's just like it's just irritating. That's, you went to his fight. I don't even, like the Gigi comment, you YouTuber, like, that's kind of a stupid comment.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Like, there are people on YouTube make it, like, doing very, very well. That company is owned by Google, the largest and most powerful company in the world. And people are making, an eight-year-old made $26 million on YouTube. I just, so I think, like, generalizing someone into a, oh, you YouTubers, I don't know. the whole thing is stupid yeah don't you think yeah i mean i like a good if you know i got excited battle but that's not even a battle that's just and his brother his is his brother which one's his brother i don't know logan i who's the one that did the boxing the boxing oh the boxing was jake paul i think it was jake paul he put on a boxing sound i heard that whole thing was ringed i don't
Starting point is 00:30:10 know stupid i'm over it but i you didn't hear a word i said what was it you didn't interrupt me but you didn't know what I said. The 90 resurgence. Huh? The 90s resurgence. Huh? So you, wait, you didn't have stopped. You're joking me.
Starting point is 00:30:29 You're fucking joking. I was trying, stop swearing. Oh my God. Why do I keep saying the F-downs? I was trying really hard to pay attention while also doing research. Did you ever have your mouth wash out with soap? Um, no. One time I had my mouth washed out of soap.
Starting point is 00:30:45 What did you say? I said, I probably said, no. I probably dropped an F-bomb, but I remember I could still taste that soap when I had to bite on it. Oh, it's brutal. Oh, it's brutal. Oh, my gosh. You like think you're... I'll do you do...
Starting point is 00:30:58 No, you think you're part Canadian, part Italian. Do your best. And you're not either. Do your best Buffalo impression. Go. Let me tell you something. I'm going to smoke a cigar. I'm going to go to the casino.
Starting point is 00:31:17 I'm going to put down a couple, one, two, three, a couple few hundred bucks on the casino. I'm Italian. That's Buffalo. What? That's your friends. That is that Buffalo. I know. That's why it's weird.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Okay. All right. I'll do Canadian. No, we already know. No, I'm going to do Canadian. No, you just go way too far and you go, oh, yeah, eh, bud, oh, for sure, eh. And it's like, no, we don't. I'm doing what you're like, oh, yeah, we're going to the super game market today.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Did you just tune again? So bad. You got Buffalo to stop. It literally smells like buffalo sauce. I'm not even joking. It's literally out of control. No, get out of here. It smells like Buffalo hot sauce.
Starting point is 00:32:07 I know. I've smelled it all day. No, this one smells like hot sauce. I'm just in the car. And I was like, what? We don't even have food in there. What is that? Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:32:17 I'm not taking you back to Buffalo. You're done. We're bringing Tums next time. What were you saying about the thing I wasn't listening to? Oh, 90s and nostalgia. Oh, your mom used to tell you, you watched out with yourself. What happened that you... Oh, you're going to do Canadian accent.

Starting point is 00:33:33 start listening i know everybody had asked us to get on spotify so we listened so there you go you're listening to off the vine with kately bristow i have a question for you what's a lie that your parents told you growing up so that you didn't do something. A lie. Like, so for me, I think of, I was looking at my Off the Vine Facebook group and I love Vino debates on there and people like, what's a lie your parents told me? Mine was, and this is what the girl said and it was also mine, that it's illegal to drive with the interior light on in your car.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Illegal. You look at night, you turn the interior light on? Yeah, yeah. Didn't your parents tell you that it was illegal? No, they never told them it's illegal, but they always said turn it off. Which, by the way, bullshit, I don't even care if the lights on. I know. That doesn't even bother me.
Starting point is 00:34:19 For the one, oh, where, did you want to have the, you can't swim? Maybe it's true. I don't even know, but you can't swim unless you have 30 minutes to digest your food. Yeah, you like, is that a real thing? You can't have peanuts and then jump in the. I don't, I think that's not a real thing. Who was, there was another one to. Kate, you told me that this is a wife's tale, right?
Starting point is 00:34:38 What? That if you're cold and you're outside when it's cold out, and you can't get a cold from that. No, because a cold is a virus. You catch it from somebody else or something in the air. What else? What's a lie that your parents told you? Those are up. I mean, you got to wear the cold.
Starting point is 00:34:56 You got to, if it's cold outside, you'll get sick. And I think that's it. Why? What do you got? What are you got? Damn it. I'm trying to find it on it off of my Facebook group because it was, there's so many funny things. They always have the funniest debate, like, how you wipe your butt.
Starting point is 00:35:13 and we talked about that the other day you asked me that the other day and you were like the weirdest thing you've ever asked me in my life but that's those are the kinds of conversations you start the conversation with me you say Jay got I got something real serious I got to talk to you about
Starting point is 00:35:26 a very personal question I was like where is she going because I never know if Caitlin's joking or not like where is she going with this and she sits down with me and I'm like oh this is like either something happened or like this is getting serious so she
Starting point is 00:35:43 sets the tone she sits down she holds she puts her hand on my knee looks me in the eye and says how do you wipe your butt yeah and you think that's a that's normal that's common practice yeah you think that it is i just would like to know who i'm with uh i mean yeah anyways we have a bachelor Recap coming up for you Thursday with Chicks in the Office. After this, we have skincare. It's so funny because I'm always like, do people really care about skin care routines? And everyone's like, yes, give us the skincare routine. So that's coming up right now.
Starting point is 00:36:24 I cannot wait for this Bachelor Recap. Look. I can't wait for it. Look, it's Fantasy Suites. So it's going to be good. Fantasy sweets are going to be good. And women tell all, I just cannot wait. And the burning question we're all talking about.
Starting point is 00:36:39 let's touch on that why was Kelly not invited well I don't think Kelly knows why she wasn't invited did she put it out there that she wasn't invited oh yeah I believe so okay I thought I read an article saying she did and what did she say in that I don't know I think she just said she wasn't invited I could be wrong it's just really bizarre because I don't understand we should come back with theories but I have theories tell me yours well I think so you want to talk about this now yeah I think one theory there's a few things one she is potentially the next bachelorette no two they don't want her to be the bachelorette and giving her more air time in that space where she again comes off as one of the most poised calm and collected she they don't want the fan base to get
Starting point is 00:37:27 behind her again to be to be the bachelorette that's another theory theory three is that she is such a neutralizer of drama that they don't want her to be there because they don't want a neutralizer because it's going to be one of the best women tell all I think ever or has the potential to especially if Victoria F is there and no I've seen I've seen I've seen uh yeah about three no I think I've seen about six now and that's those are my theories what are your theories my theory is that my theory is that she doesn't bring the drama maybe she was a little tricky to work with because she wasn't falling for you know she wasn't willing to do the be produced that yeah she wasn't willing to be produced and they're just kind of like
Starting point is 00:38:22 we don't have time for you you bring no more value that's what so that's what you think it is we think but you don't you would see kelly on a paradise or summer games have all these shows coming out no I don't think she will. Wow. I think they're like, look, you clearly thought this show was a joke and you didn't take it serious. And you were, which I think she did. I think she took it very serious. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:43 And I think they're like, we can't produce her. And she was maybe tricky to work with because of that. And people loved her for it. That they're like, we're not going to give you any more attention. I'll tell you. So I would like to be a fly on that wall, but I would also have liked to be a fly on Hannah and Dylan's engagement party this weekend. I heard, I don't know if it's true, but I heard rumors circulated that. Hannah B was there, Peter was there, Jed was there.
Starting point is 00:39:09 I'm not sure if Tyler, Tyler C was there. I'm like, oh, that's, there's an out of action going on. And there's no, there's no word about how that went down? You know what? We've been so buried in Buffalo that, I don't know. Huh. Left to look into it. Dang, man.
Starting point is 00:39:28 I mean, it's about time the season's about to get interesting. Yeah. It's about to get fired up. Yeah. Here we go. All right. Let's go do a little buffalo detox and keep those two tuts under control. No.
Starting point is 00:39:42 It's unbelievable. Well, what? We're there. Oh, yeah, we're there. Yeah. And I've got some leftover mac and cheese. Oh, God. I'm done.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Oh, really? I can't eat anymore. I can. I need a salient hot dog. I've really expanded the old belly. Oh, I'm hurting. It's all good. It's worth it.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Well, thanks for doing a little recap. It was fun that, you know, I look back and I'm like, wow, we really didn't put anything on social media, which, I mean, you don't have to share your whole life on social media all the time, but we like to share things with people and keep them posted. And we really weren't on our phones a whole heck of a lot. I'm telling you, the conversation at these dinners and lunches and brunches were just so engaging and fun. And everyone was laughing the whole time. It was good to be back. And no matter where are you from or what you're doing, like keeping in touch with the people, that kind of you grew up with and that made you, you are so important. That was one of the things I put on my...
Starting point is 00:40:31 As long as they are worth holding on to in your life. Correct. And it's one thing I put on my New Year's resolution this year was like I need to get back to the roots of, you know, the people that made me who and spend more time with them. So thank you for coming to buff. Well, thank you for bringing me here. And I'm so glad your grandpa Lenny gave me the stamp of approval.
Starting point is 00:40:49 You have the stamp of approval. Boxes are being checked left and right. Woo. Okay, so enjoy this next part of the podcast where we talk all things skincare. I need to. Hey, tune in, Jason Tartick. I'm going to tune in. I'm going to tune in. Great review, five stars.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Five stars. Let's go. Tune in. All right, guys, unless you're living under a rock, you've probably heard of Goop and all the cool things they are doing. And whether you're a fan of their wellness and lifestyle site or just curious about wellness topics that kind of push the boundaries, you're really going to want to check out the Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow on Netflix. I'm telling you, it's so interesting and so fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:41:26 They cover so many topics from anti-aging, psychics, psychedelics, it's pretty fascinating. So in episode one, Gwyneth Paltrow says, we're here one time, one life. How can we milk the shit out of this? Which I 100% agree with. And this view leads her to explore all the cool topics she's interested in throughout the show. So it's a six episode series that guides the viewer through an exploration of different topics in wellness. And once you start watching, promise, pinky swear you're going to be hooked. Each episode is only 30 minutes and covers a different topic.
Starting point is 00:42:00 The episodes feature doctors, researchers, alternative health practitioners, and other experts in mental, physical, and spiritual and sexual health. I was really fascinated, actually, by this one episode on psychics and mediums, because you guys know I'm really into that. But honestly, every episode we watch is just fun to watch, and I felt like I was learning while watching TV, which is always a bonus. The Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow available now only on Netflix. Okay, so hi everyone. Welcome to a live podcast. Has anyone ever been to one before? It's just us talking with a microphone and it looks like this. You can't hear me in the microphone. It's going into my podcast. So we look like kind of idiots with just talking into a microphone that you can't really hear us. But can everybody hear us okay? Yeah. Okay. So basically today we're going to talk about skin care. Duh. And how Elizabeth has changed my life with Botox, filler, and skincare. We're going to go over Caitlin's routine, why we chose that routine, what it does to the pretty face of Caitlin Bristow.
Starting point is 00:43:05 I'm almost 35. I think my skin looks pretty good, thanks to you. I would say so. I would say so. So we'll run down morning. A huge question I get is how do we apply products? So if we do... And in what order?
Starting point is 00:43:19 Yes. So we're going to go through it in order so that we know how to apply these products, not just why we you're polite at the products. Does that make sense? Yes, it makes tons of sense. Please, go on. Yes. What would you say is your favorite product is before we start? Uh, sometimes I can't pronounce things. So just tell me if I'm wrong, but, uh, the H.A. 5. I was like age 5. H.A. 5. Yeah. Um, that's skin medica, right? Yep. Yeah. That's probably the biggest, that and vitamin C for me have been the biggest game changer in my skin. Yeah. With, um, like, glowing, brightening, tightening. I would say those two products are my absolute favorite.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Yeah. While we're talking about that, I'll let them touch it. Yeah. You guys should feel, yeah, touch it. If you guys haven't ever felt H.A.5, it feels like absolute silk. Yes. So we'll just pass this around. And like you said, also, it kind of works as like a makeup primer too. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's, it's, and I think people also need to know that it takes patience with skincare. Like, you're not going to see results overnight. And it's like working out. You know if you want those results right away the next day, but really over, if you do something over a year, and how fast is a year ago, really, if you think about it, you will notice the biggest difference if you're just committed, which I'm so committed.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Like, have you ever seen that meme on the internet that's like, your husband has been kidnapped, like he's been missing, you've had a search team out until 3 a.m. There's no finding him. Do you do your skin care at the end of the night? Yes or no? I'm like, yes. Like, I don't care what my night has been. Jason will be like, how did you even, you had a few cocktails last night and I'm like, I will always remember to wash my face and do my skincare at the end of the night because it's commitment. Yes, it is. I always say give yourself six weeks. So the skin just continually changes. And to get through a skin care cycle is at least a month. So if you haven't turned over all of those
Starting point is 00:45:15 cells and you haven't experienced, let your body heal itself, how in the world do you expect to see that result overnight? So so many people come in after they've been, and get yourself some wine. Oh, yeah. Right. So off-brand that I'm sitting here without wine. But so many people will come in and they'll be like, I did it for a week and I broke out.
Starting point is 00:45:35 Or I did it for a week and I saw zero change in my skin. And I'm like, duh. Yes, you did. Obviously, you purged probably. Or you didn't see a change because you didn't give yourself enough time to actually let your skin acclimate to the changes, to actually see what that product does for your skin. So that's why it's a really big.
Starting point is 00:45:54 kicker to really make sure you do it on a six-week cycle. So six weeks is when you would say you'd see the biggest difference if you come in to six weeks. Okay. Yeah. That's like, it's so weird. I'm like, I'm getting hardwood put in my floors right now and they're acclimating to my house. I didn't even know that was a thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:11 Yeah. Same thing. Different day. Yeah. Okay, so let's go through our AM. A.M. routine. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:19 So we wash, right? Yes. Okay, wait, I have a question for you. Ask away. I thought about it this morning, because I heard that your skin brings out all the good oils while you sleep and that you shouldn't use a face wash in the morning because you want to keep those good oils there. Is that a myth or the truth? Or a fact.
Starting point is 00:46:40 So the real fact is over the course of the night, which is why skincare overnight is really important, your skin heals itself about 35%. And so putting good things in that your skin can use and kind of have, help its process of, you know, fixing collagen, re-stimulating that collagen, is really important. The thing is, what do we do while we sleep? We just laid on our pillowcase where we drooled. Unfortunately, it's real, ladies. Don't deny it.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I drool. It's a thing. I drill, and I sweat. Yeah, we sweat. We have sweat. We have oil. We drool. We have dry shampoo that we'd have been washed out.
Starting point is 00:47:18 So our face is just smushin right on into all of that. So just imagine you wake up and you have all that glorious stuff on your skin, right? And so I'm not saying, now, your exfoliation, your deep cleansers, that's your nighttime. That's where you do the hard work. But when you wake up in the morning, you still need to get a fresh face because then that's just sticking on your skin all day long. I didn't even think about that, the pillowcase. How often do you wash your pillowcases? Yeah, let's be honest here.
Starting point is 00:47:49 I don't want, weekly you do? I'm so impressed. So, yeah, it is important to wash your pillowcase or get, there's this one pillowcase that's made by N-V-E-N-V-Y, and it is a material that kills bacteria. No way. So it literally can put, what's called MRSA, have you ever, it's a bad staff, nasty. It literally kills MRSA even. So they did studies, and it's incredible.
Starting point is 00:48:14 So it's a wonderful case to put onto your pillows because it kills all the bacteria. Oh, that's pretty incredible. Fascinating. Okay, so definitely wash your face in the moment. morning. Yeah. So you can just a gentle cleanser. Or even a myceler water, like something like that. Just get some of the gunk off. Okay. And then I always start with vitamin C. Is this the right order? I love it. Okay. And I'm just learning this too. If you put the vitamin C on, you need to let it soak in first before you apply other products. Yeah. I basically, what I do is I wash my face. When it's still damp, I'm putting on my vitamin C so that it does
Starting point is 00:48:47 absorb a little bit better when your skin's damp. You know, it just has the pores a little more. because you just put warm water on there. So I do say have a little bit of some moisture to the skin. But by the time I'm done brushing my teeth, I can put on my next layer. You don't have to wait five minutes for a product to sink in. If you are using medical-grade products, it's enough concentration that it's going to get into the skin
Starting point is 00:49:11 and it's going to dry and it's going to work. Yeah. And have you warned everybody about the vitamin C accident with your father? Oh, yeah. Well, that sounded really dramatic. dramatic. Do you see, I can tell who doesn't have Botox in here because an eyebrow came up. So my sweet father, he went online because he didn't want to bother me because he stole all of my mom's vitamin C serum because he saw a difference in his skin and he's like, oh my gosh,
Starting point is 00:49:37 this stuff is good. And my mom's like, order off some more. And he's so sweet, didn't want to bother me. So he went online to order the vitamin C and wouldn't you have it? It comes and thank God they knew what it looked like. It was a complete imposter. so he still paid over $100 and it was clear the bottle looked the same the label looked the same but the dropper was different and it was completely clear like who knows what was in that yeah so that was my question what the heck was in that yeah so get your products here or on an approved site there are approved sites as well so yeah and while I just am thinking about it why is it so important to do the medical grade over like the the CVS
Starting point is 00:50:20 brands and all those things. So vitamin C is a little fickle mister. He can only work in certain environments. So there are so many things between pH, between formulations, between if it's
Starting point is 00:50:36 mixed with ferulic acid, for it to actually be active. And then you have these companies being like, this is 30% vitamin C. Great, your skin can't use that. So you're putting glorified water on your face at that point. So so many of these companies that might have a $5 or $10 vitamin C serum. In reality, it's not doing anything for your skin,
Starting point is 00:50:57 unfortunately. So to get that actually bang for your buck, you need something that's been tested. That's why I love skin suiticles. Their C&Es went through Duke studies. They have physicians that are specific to studying how this works in the skin. They'll show you, I get really nerdy, but they'll show you the path of physiology. They'll show you the skin, you know, under a microscope how the collagen gets stimulated because of vitamin C stimulates collagen production. A random fact for you is, us and guinea pigs don't produce vitamin C. So, yeah. That is a very random fact.
Starting point is 00:51:33 Right? Yeah. Okay. So when we don't produce vitamin C, our collagen needs vitamin C to produce. So that's why it's so important to use a topical vitamin C to actually get that collagen stimulus or else you just kind of, your collagen just starts to creep on down. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:51 So vitamin C. Vitamin C. First. Yeah. Okay. What's next? Then I do my B5 gel. Yes.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Yeah. I'm like, I don't even read it anymore. I'm just like this one, this one, this one. I like have them in a little fridge. Is that another thing to keep it cold? I just like it. Yeah. It depuffs, but that's about it.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Oh, okay. Yeah. And the vitamin C, I'll be completely honest with you. The skin suiticles has a little different smell. Has anyone used vitamins? It smells like bacon. It smells like bacon. Hot dogs, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Yeah. So if you're very smell sensitive... We're really selling it. Yeah. It smells like bacon on your face. If you're very sensitive to smell, I say keep it in the fridge, because then by the time it's absorbed, it really doesn't have that smell. And it doesn't stick on your face the whole day. You don't smell like bacon the whole day just for like a second.
Starting point is 00:52:42 I mean, but any single lady is attracts the men that way, it's fine. Yeah. Yeah, so vitamin C. And then B5 gel does... I'm like, I think I know, but you're going to be a lot better at explaining it. Yeah, so hydrating B5 gel has obviously B5 and it has haleronic acid. So it's just a beautiful mixture, has a couple other ingredients that help with some moisture. It's not thick, it's a gel.
Starting point is 00:53:07 And so especially if you're breakout prone or anything like that, it's not going to just lay thick and heavy on the skin. Some people also don't like the feeling of a thick cream, especially when you're about to put your sunscreen on and everything. So it's just really lovely to feel how light it is. All right. So we all know that life today is kind of a lot. Everyone's always go, go, go, and always on, which is pretty much exhausting. So every now and then, it's important to just take a moment to crack open a mountain
Starting point is 00:53:35 cold, Coors Light, and just chill for a second. I think it's so unbelievably important to take time for yourself, to just relax, hang out, especially in the chaos of life these days. I feel like I'm always running around from place to place or just trying to cross the next thing off my to-do list, but sometimes you just need a Coorsight and some time to give yourself a break. I feel like whenever I see and drink a Coorsight, it's like my brain instantly knows it's time to relax and enjoy, which we all need to do more of when we get the chance. Coorsight is literally made to chill, and by chill, I mean one relax, but also two, temperature-wise.
Starting point is 00:54:10 This is actually really cool. So the mountains on the bottles and cans turn blue when your beer is cold. So next time you need a moment to chill, try a Coors Light, and trust me, you will immediately feel more relaxed. Coors Light is brewed with a three-step cold process, cold lagered, cold filtered, and cold packaged so that it's actually made to chill. Born in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in 1978, Coors Light is refreshing, crisp, and only 102 calories, which is a huge bonus if you ask me.
Starting point is 00:54:40 Well, and it tastes amazing. That's why Coors Light is the one I choose when I need a moment of chill. So when you want to reset, reach for the beer that's made to chill. Celebrate responsibly Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colorado. And then next, I've got a few. I'm like, do we have two hours to talk about my skin guarantee? Because I'm on like an eight-step program at this point. And then next, I use the AJ5.
Starting point is 00:55:03 So was that bad order? No. Truly, H.A.5, so you're getting double-wanting of hyaluronic acid, basically. Isn't that good? It's great. Okay. It's great. So as we age, the reason our skin starts.
Starting point is 00:55:15 look so like dehydrated and liney is because our natural haleronic acid levels plummet. And so as that diminishes in our skin, we want to plump that back up. So with your B5, that has a little bit of haleronic acid, and then the H.A.5, if you felt it, it feels like silk. It's not only going to fill in those fine lines and make your makeup look flawless, but it's also going to build your own natural layers of H.A. Yeah. So it just makes your skin look dewy and fresh and less lines on top of the fact that it's helping. And that's fine to put that step there. I've heard that with skincare you're supposed to go from like the thinness to the heaviest
Starting point is 00:55:56 in that order. Is that true? I have been changing that a little bit to most active ingredients to least active ingredients. That was a really good rule of thumb. And if you're questioning it, that's a good one to follow. If you don't really know like what's active, what's not. But in reality, you want the most punch. So that C is like your big punch.
Starting point is 00:56:15 to the skin. And then as you're going along, things that are more hydrating and things like that, you're not changing the skin really. You're just making it look great, right? So that's where you start to go to your less active ingredients as you kind of pass through there. Okay. Yeah, that one's my favorite. So good. Oh, you're good. So the next step is your sun screen. How did I not know that one? Shoot, that's it. next um what do you do next i always do sunscreen last it is last what do you oh i still got more for you okay let it on i'm so sorry i ain't done um the a g e i um cream and then my moisturizer and then my sunscreen yeah so a lot of people wouldn't necessarily need another moisturizer
Starting point is 00:57:08 oh but it but you need a little more moisture so yes um in a perfect world if you're putting it on, you're exactly right. You had that down the back. Your eye cream can go on. Really, your eye cream can go on at any time. Okay. That's really not. And that's my favorite eye cream I've ever used. The AGE. Yeah. It is so great for puffiness, for darkness. It also helps with glycation, which is kind of what breaks down the creakiness of the eyes. So it's really, really great for that. Now, if you need a little more hydration, which you're already taking your H.A.5, I love H.A.5 under the eyes. Smooth that right out. But if you really need more hydration there are a little bit better eye creams but for you who's young and you don't have
Starting point is 00:57:50 too much of a like crepe factor where it needs more more more hydration um a jee is incredible i also hate water which is really weird is that a problem so i'm going to break the bubble i know that's weird there has been no scientific study that shows that water will help your skin i know um yes i i i mean I mean, I know it's really good for your body and everything, but I'm like, I really struggle to drink water. And I'm always, everyone's like, well, it helps with your skin. I'm like, does it? Yeah, it helps your body.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Yeah. So, you know, hydrate your body. We're not saying don't. Yeah, I'm not saying don't. And you'll notice, the biggest thing you'll notice is your lips when you don't drink enough water. That's where you dehydrate and really show it and maybe a little under the eyes. But as far as your skin goes, yes, drinking water is good for you. but is it transformative to your skin?
Starting point is 00:58:45 The jury's out. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying I have looked at every science of the study, and nothing can show me how water changes your skin. So that's a little fact for you. Okay, let's get to father sunscreen. Father sunscreen. So there's two different sunscreens that I love.
Starting point is 00:59:03 One is this guy. This one's amazing. We use this on the boat all summer. Oh, the time. It's water resistant. It's a built-in brush. We'll pass this around. It's super fun.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Swap you out. So what it has the highest level of titanium and zinc out there. It's completely water resistant. Also, let's be real. Your sunscreen is gone in like three to four hours. And don't you dare tell me you use your sunscreen and your makeup. I will come for you. We'll fight.
Starting point is 00:59:35 Unless you're putting seven layers of makeup on your face, that is not okay. Okay. So why did they even put it in just to say it's in there? Yes. Oh, okay, okay. Yes. False advertisement. And it's a chemical sunscreen typically. Oh. So that chemicals are out, titanium and zinc are in. That's, uh, if, if Mexico can ban chemical sunscreens, should we really be looking at what, that, why they do that? So, um, so this has halerotic acid in it. Yeah. I'm full of it. Yeah. Um, but it also has titanium and zinc. Um, it's water resistant. You're not going to mess up your makeup when you keep it in your person. it on if anything you're going to touch it up take the grease off the face um so it's great to to reapply that yeah it's it it really uh cleo does anyone know who cleo is oh my gosh okay i'm like
Starting point is 01:00:25 i don't know um clio's obsessed with that stuff too she introduced that to me years ago yeah yeah yeah i love it um i think you also use tDR at times total defense and repair um so that one is a really great sunscreen too it protects you from um and basically radiation as well so infrared radiation and the different things that your skin comes in contact with. One thing to titanium and zinc really help with, for you especially if we're on our phones all the time. Blue light is... Well, I've never on my phone.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Never? It's like, touching my skin right now. Blue light is the new thing. You know, when we're like, oh, it's because we drive. We're starting to see the effects that blue light has on our face. Where sun damage is starting... It's not sun damage, it's just damage. from the blue lights or the blue lights of our screens and things like that.
Starting point is 01:01:15 Well, I have a question, another myth or fact. Yeah. The sunscreen, when it says like 20 or 30 or 50, is that how long it lasts for? Like, 50 minutes is, like, sunscreen 50? So that's funny. That was on my boards, that question. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:31 So that does tell you how long it's going to last protecting you on the skin. It does. It's basically telling you how long until you start to get pink. You know like SPF 30 and you're like, oh, that's just for if I don't burn? Yeah. As much or like, yeah. Yeah, but really in reality, is there much benefit to get past 30 or 40? Not really.
Starting point is 01:01:51 It's very minuscule. But yeah, technically, they say to reapply about every 80 minutes in general. Only if you're in the sun or all through your day. If you're outside. Okay. So if you are walking to your car, you're driving, that window is not protecting you. So you want to reapply. That's, I mean, L.A. is just a whole other world out there with skin care.
Starting point is 01:02:14 Like, people wear driving gloves and masks while they drive. I'm not joking. I'm not even joking. I'm not being dramatic. It's, they actually wear, like, netful masks and driving gloves. So does anyone follow the skinny confidential? Yeah. She wears driving gloves to protect her hands.
Starting point is 01:02:32 Yeah. In Canada. Or not Canada. I was like, okay. I was like, Canadian. In China. Yeah. crazy. I mean, they won't even go to the beach without being, like, fully, fully closed.
Starting point is 01:02:44 Yeah. Aren't visors coming back in, too? So, we have that. Next release? Yeah. Do you. I'm not mad at that, actually. My mom is rocked a visor since I can remember. And, oh, party fell. Just kidding. It would have been if you spilled it, but it was empty, so you're good. But, yeah, it's, my mom always rocks the visor, and she wears her bangs over the visor. That's incredible. That's incredible. I love how we're in like Tennessee and people are like, bless her heart.
Starting point is 01:03:18 Bless her. Yeah. So funny. We'll be back with more Off the Vine with Caitlin Bristow. Now back to Off the Vine with Caitlin Bristow. So should we move to the nighttime routine? Nighttime. Okay.
Starting point is 01:03:35 This is my favorite one because this is where I feel like you wake up. you're like, I did my skin routine last night. Like, you can really tell if you use the proper products at night before you go to sleep. Because, like, you said, well, I don't know. Who sleeps like, I sleep like this at night, and I don't move. Yeah, I don't move. Yeah, like, I look like a full-blown, like, yeah, in a coffin. Just, I don't know what it is.
Starting point is 01:03:58 That's just how I sleep. Cross and everything. I'm not being weird. Like, that's literally how I sleep. But, so I don't worry too much about my dirty pillowcase. but what was my point your nighttime you shine oh yeah yeah so I feel like I just lay there and like bathe in my skin routine and don't worry about it when I wake up
Starting point is 01:04:17 so um so what do I start with the uh oh I wash my face obviously with um what do I use for the I don't know what it's called the wash yeah you I saw you had um skin surgical's gentle cleanser yeah is that the one used in nighttime I think so It's great. Yeah. And then I use my favorite. Now, what is the difference between this one? So it's an H.A.
Starting point is 01:04:42 Intensifier. What's the difference between an H.A. intensifier and the H.A.5. Yeah. Nothing. No, I'm just kidding. It's very texture. Oh, okay. Truly.
Starting point is 01:04:55 They do the same exact thing. They're both halerotic acid. So it's really, you're just getting halerotic acid on lockdown. Okay. You have locked it down. Yeah, I've locked it down. Yeah. But yes, that's the difference.
Starting point is 01:05:10 Okay. They're very similar products. It's not that you are terrible for using both. Yeah. You know, you might use one in the morning, like H.A. 5 in the morning, because we didn't use H.A. intensifier in the morning. And then your H.A. or H.A. intensifier at night. Okay.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Maybe we should put this on the Indie Skin Care Instagram page, too, so that people can, like, take screenshots or buy it on your way out. And it's an investment, guys. It's a really great investment. Yes. Most of your routine is actually 20% off right now. So, it's exciting. Is it really?
Starting point is 01:05:44 Well, I'm doing some shopping on my way out too. That's cool. Yeah. All right. So when you're selling online, getting your orders out can be a real pain. You're, of course, happy when you see an order come through. But then there's a million questions you have to ask yourself, like, how do I keep track of who gets what? Intensifier.
Starting point is 01:07:37 I'm going to switch you up. I'm going to throw you through a loop. Okay. We're going to put on retinol first. What? Okay. Yep, yep. More active, most active.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Right. So you want that on your skin first. Fair. Uh-huh. Okay. Yep. Retinal first. Yep.
Starting point is 01:07:55 And then the H.A. intensifier? Tell me the, let me see. What else are you using? Let me out all the process and we'll go in order. Was it a flower? Yeah, flowered a stuff. That would have been a cool boomerang if anyone caught that. So I do that one, the retinal, the eye cream again.
Starting point is 01:08:15 Yep. And then a moisturizer. What? Lumavive. Oh, yeah, yeah. I forgot about that one. Yeah. I never remember the name.
Starting point is 01:08:22 I just... That one's a fancy one. Yeah. Okay. So we're going to do retinol first because that's your most active for the night. Okay. That's going to stimulate your cell turnover. It's what's going to help you.
Starting point is 01:08:33 age less. It's like the holy grill of anti-aging other than an antioxidant. So your retinol is going to go on first as... And don't overdo it. I'm pretty sure I got a chemical burn one time. I was like, oh, it's the like mother's milk. And I just like slapped it on every night. And it, yeah, don't do that. Don't do that. You have to be very cautious with the amount you use and how often you use in your week. Completely. If you have a really hard time with it, two things you could, tips you can do one is you can put it on and immediately put on your moisturizer um or two you can actually mix them together to decrease the potency yes it does decrease the potency but it allows your skin to acclimate so if you get to the point where
Starting point is 01:09:16 your skin's cell turnover is great and you're doing awesome then back off your moisturizer mix in or that kind of thing and see to test out the water see if you can go um so should use it every other night retina yeah or can't you first start oh dang i've been doing up for like four years now, and I'm still like every other night after my one accident. Three nights a week is minimum. Okay. So if you're doing three nights a week, which you are, you're great. You're doing great, sweetie.
Starting point is 01:09:44 Thank you. Yes. But if you can do it more, awesome. That's really great. So that's not a bad thing if you're just doing it around that time period. And there's different strengths, too, right? Like you can go from like a point five to a one. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:01 I should work here. she is so good it's just like I'll ask her questions sometimes I'm like hey yeah but I can't tell you the names of things I can just tell you like what I use what that you're using everything good so that's okay yeah um so there's 0.25 there's 0.5 and there's 1% retina and so as far as you know if you're like really just struggling start with 0.25 or back yours down you want to use it three nights a week that's just going to be your minimum if you're not at 3 nights a week, you've got to change something because you're not getting the benefit at one night. I had someone come in.
Starting point is 01:10:37 They're like, yeah, I can do it one night a week. And I was like, we're going to change that. It's just a waste. Waste of your time. Yeah. Yeah. Because your skin will never even acclimate at that point. You've given it then six extra days to just go back to not acclimating.
Starting point is 01:10:53 So we've got to push through. Push it. Push it. You got to battle. You got to do the battle. Okay, so what are we at now? What order was that? Retinal moisturizer.
Starting point is 01:11:02 You can mix them if you want. Yep. H.A. H.A. Intensifier. Then what's the one that I can never remember the name? Lumaviv. Yes.
Starting point is 01:11:09 So, throwing all sorts of wrenches. So now I told you. Everybody that's listening on the podcast is just like writing in their notes. Oh my gosh. Or maybe your old school. Write it on paper. Yes. But yeah, you got to write it down.
Starting point is 01:11:22 Yes. So if you are doing something like an antioxidant, right? We want that in the morning because it's protecting you from free radicals. You know how an apple turns brown? so that is all of these free radicals hitting that apple imagine that now hitting your skin so if we now if you dipped said apple in your antioxidant it wouldn't turn brown
Starting point is 01:11:45 do the experiment just saying don't wait just kidding don't waste that that's liquid gold but if you dipped it into it I've done it you dip it into the vitamin C serum it won't turn brown because it stops that free radical damage that's crazy yeah yeah so that's why in the daytime vitamin C is so important because it's like a little bubble you're living in a face bubble yeah that point that's cool um so that is a wonderful protection but at night your body's healing itself so dang it it needs that vitamin C while it's healing itself and so we throw in like lumavive or a reservoir because those are
Starting point is 01:12:21 your nighttime antioxidants that are boosting up its healing process to get that collagen oomfed up okay this sounds like a lot I know because the words are so fancy, but we can write it all down for you. We'll put it on Instagram so you can... On the ground. You can do it. But yeah, okay. So that one I find has really helped, like, even out my skin tone, like, gotten rid of some brown spots and, like, pigment stuff.
Starting point is 01:12:46 Yeah, helps brighten you up. Okay. And then I do the eye cream and moisturizer. Yeah. Yeah. You use triple lipid at night. Yeah. So triple lipid is the holy grail of moisturizer.
Starting point is 01:12:57 So I describe moisturizer. if you know me, this is how I describe moisturizer. So cap on a water bottle. That's normal over-the-counter moisturizers, right? So you're just, if there's water in the water bottle, you're going to hold it in with the cap, right? So if you then
Starting point is 01:13:13 don't have enough water in the water bottle, what are you holding in? Nothing, right? So in essence, a lot of the moisturizers, the reason you're like, I'm still dry after using a moisturizer, is because it's not healing the moisture barrier,
Starting point is 01:13:31 it's just trying to lock down what you have. So triple lipid, the difference is, it's actually mimicking your moisture barrier. So it has the total cholesterol. Yep, mm-hmm. Touche, I deserve that. I deserve that. That was a party foul.
Starting point is 01:13:53 It's mimicking your moisture barrier, so it's actually fixing it. fixing the problem. So that's why when you put triple lipid on, where's Leslie? Leslie will tell you, she texted me the next day and she's like, how can I get rid of fat this fast? Because it zapped her moisture problem overnight. So it is magical because you just put it on and it actually fixes the issue versus masking it with just putting the cap on your water bottle. So that's why triple lipid is great for you. Rehydrate. We don't drink water. so bad. I don't know how I do it, but yeah. Yeah, I do it. I just have a funny party foul story
Starting point is 01:14:35 that when I do live podcast, sometimes the wine is flowing. And one time, actually a few times, I've actually done it where my wine glass is in this hand and my microphone's in this hand, and I'll go to drink my microphone. Or all like talking to my wine. And then I'm like, okay, I'm going to put that down. But yeah. Well, I love your skincare routine. Yeah. It's pretty good. Yeah, thank you. You put me on it, so I, I hope you like it. It'd be weird if you didn't. But yeah, it is.
Starting point is 01:15:03 It's really, when I first, how long ago was that, like, four years ago that I started coming to you? Oh, my soul. My life has been so much better for four years. That's so funny. I look back at photos and, you know, I mean, some people in the room, hi Danielle, have, who have been on the show or have been on TV or know that people will really rip you apart for things. But people are always like, you look so different after. the show and I'm like well it's in five years and I did skin care I swear to God that's why I look different because I'm like I'm not going to deny that because I think I look pretty
Starting point is 01:15:42 great if I do say so myself because I feel like I'm like yeah I have because of skincare so yeah credit to you for everything you've done and congratulations on this opening and you know we're so proud of you. And, oh, and Bailey and Clio told me to tell you that they're very proud of you, too. Oh, I love them. So very much. Well, while Renee is setting up, do we want to answer some questions? Yeah, if anyone has any questions about anything, anything. Yes. Karina says that, you know, for some people who, you said you're lazy, I'm so lazy too. But some people, you know, aren't going to pick 10 steps to put on your face in the morning. What are the two most essential ones you would recommend? I already know what you're going to say.
Starting point is 01:16:28 tell me um either the h a 5 or a moisturizer and sunscreen um really close okay so close okay um sunscreen yeah sure um the ha is so great at making your skin look good oh it's not like going in it's not the changer okay but i'm so proud of you that was still a really great answer um so there's there's i would say you're you're three so ones at night retinol that's your holy grail um the other one's antioxidant, so like a C&E or a Floritan if you're oily breakout prone. And then your sunscreen. Okay. Yeah. Those are your heavy hitters. Those are your like, if you're getting started with a routine, that would be where I would start. You also have great skin, by the way. Yeah, beautiful. Yeah. Bless your heart, I think. Is that what I'm supposed to say? Okay. Did I use
Starting point is 01:17:19 have the right context? Bless your heart. I tried. See all the ways Shopify is supporting independence at shopify.com slash independence. Shopify supporting independence. Do you have a question? So she was asking about what you put inside your body, how does that influence your skin? You know what you eat. So a lot of people when they're coming in and they have breakouts, especially along their jaw line, I really start to look at dairy because it dairy does really wreak havoc. It's a very true thing that dairy can mess with your skin. And you really have to give, if you're testing the waters, you really have to give
Starting point is 01:19:02 yourself several weeks off dairy to see if you improve because it's not like an overnight. Oh, I stopped dairy for one day and my skin is great. So, but that's something that you do need to do. When it comes to sugar, yeah, sometimes if you eat a little bit more sugar, you're going to probably you're going to be a little more dull, a little more breakout. So internal is still really important. Taking care of your gut, when you inflame your gut, you show inflammation in other ways, right? You're going to show it through inflammatory breakout. So gut health is very important whenever you're thinking about that. Probiotic is really important, but it's a specific type. Sometimes probiotics will make you break out. I'm about to rock your world with that one. Some
Starting point is 01:19:43 people are like, I love probiotics, and I had a patient that came in, and she's like, I've never broken up before. I'm so broken out. The only thing she had changed is she got on a probiotic. So you really have to be careful with that. But yeah, internal is just shows externally. But it's not the end-all be-all, right? Jaw line could be hormonal as well. So great question. Yes. Oh, and I like your scrunchy. Well, thank you. So I've been using retinal for a year now, and I've gone up to every step. I've never once peeled. I've never once turned red. Is it still doing something for me? Or am I always
Starting point is 01:20:17 How often did you say you use it? Every night. Oh. Oh, no, you... Skin and steel. I don't know. No, that's great. Your skin looks great.
Starting point is 01:20:23 It's doing wonders for you. Yeah. Count your lucky stars. So basically with retinol, if you don't have to go through the heck that is retinol, count your blessings. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:34 Count them. Because that's just like some people don't peel with a peel. And they're like, it's doing nothing for my skin. I didn't peel and flake. Like, praise God. Yeah. Like, that is so awesome.
Starting point is 01:20:46 That just means you're taking care of. care of your skin. So it is fine that you don't flake. It is fine that you don't get dried out and irritated. People would love to have that problem. It is still doing it. Still doing it for you. Yep. Absolutely. Yes. So you had a sunburn. It really damaged your skin. And now when you wash your face and secondary burns, yikes. Yeah. I've seen, yeah. That happened to a friend of actually and so now you're seeing redness and you want to know how to correct that so that's what's basically happened is just as we start to age we start to see more red tones because our skin has been damaged from the sun so broken capillaries start coming to the surface also as we lose elasticity we
Starting point is 01:21:30 don't hold those capillaries in as tight so we start to see them more so if it's a broken capillary thing because of that damage you're in the more laser category so yes you can use things to calm down red tones, but if it's not true rosatia, where that's, you know, like an up and down, then it's more in the category of doing something like a laser treatment. Because rosacea, you can treat with some products and different things like that to an extent. But as far as that, it's probably more in the laser category. What would you do microneedling for?
Starting point is 01:22:01 Yeah, I love microneedling. I know you know. It is one of my favorite procedures. So microneedling is for almost anything, but it's for acne scars. If you suffer from acne scars, it's for. fine lines. It's for pores size. It's for just overall reboot of the skin because it's stimulating in college and it's stimulating elast. And it's incredible for the skin. And it's not down. There's no downtime to it. I mean, sometimes I'm like a little right after, but like nothing that I
Starting point is 01:22:30 have to take a day off. Yeah. You can wear makeup for a day. That's, that's a good day. Okay, that's some downtime. So one day, one day, yeah. One day of downtime. So, but otherwise you're exactly right. There really isn't much downtime at all. Hi. So you have naturally oily skin, but you're breakout prone. So what? Oh, that's a good question. So there's, that is such a good question.
Starting point is 01:22:53 So here's what's really hard with a breakout prone skin. You use products that dry you out, right? Because salicylic acid is great for breakout prone skin to clean out your pores. Whenever you're using benz-oeroxides, you know, all of the different things that are going to help you with breakouts are going to dry
Starting point is 01:23:10 you out. out. Guess what happens when you dry out? You overproduce oil. When you overproduce oil, then you break out more. So if you are not replacing your natural moisture barrier and protecting that barrier of your skin, it's going to keep breaking out because you're breaking that down. So there's a really fine line, right? We tow it. We have to find that balance where there's like lapis by her before. They have a little anti-inflammatory, but moisture balance to that. So that's an oil that is a moisturizer there but it has a little bit of coconut oil so if you're sensitive to that because that can break you out you know you might have some issues with it but it's great for
Starting point is 01:23:49 broken prone skin in general but keeping moisture to a breakout prone skin is important but also calming down inflammation so those products are going to inflame you so something called phytocorrective gel is incredible because it is going to soothe your skin calm the inflammatory breakout down has moisturizing property to it while also you know keeping those breakouts at bay. Do you see why she owns this place? You're so knowledgeable, like with everyone. I'm like, gosh, you're so smart. Ask me about wine. I'll tell you everything. Do you skincare. McKenzie wants to know where you stop on the skincare. Do you go down to the neck, to the
Starting point is 01:24:25 chest, down to the knees. What do you do? Really great question. So for a lot of things like vitamin Cs, haleroneic acids, you just bring them right down. If you go to your retinoles, they can be real harsh on your neck. It can really wreak some havoc. So if you can tolerate it, great. If you can't, then just leave it off. Because your neck can be really sensitive. But I love bringing every product down to my declete
Starting point is 01:24:55 as much as you can. Declat. I know. Declotage. Yeah, it's a fancy word for cleavage. Because you don't want your face, whenever you're like 50, you don't want your face to look phenomenal
Starting point is 01:25:08 and then you look like old lady boobs. Like, no, that's not cute. That's not cute. I am 34. I already noticed, like, when I wake up in the morning, I notice lines. You guys get that, too? Yeah. I have a solution.
Starting point is 01:25:24 You do? How have you not told me? Botox. Can we Botox in there? I will. You laugh. Some people do. Yeah, I will.
Starting point is 01:25:33 But there's something called an SIO patch. Oh, yeah. I actually have used that before. Love it. They, I have one of their eye patches, or, um, is that, no, no, no, um, like a sleep mask. Uh-huh. Like, if it's bright and you want a sleep mask because it also has whatever, I don't know. Yeah, go ahead.
Starting point is 01:25:51 Sorry. Um, so SIO patches, they make them for under eyes. They make them, don't buy the forehead ones. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard that stops you, like, stops its brown lines. That's Botox. Um, but they make them for your declotage. Now, they will not just fill in your lines. They are lying to you.
Starting point is 01:26:08 I love you, SIO. I'm so sorry. but um but what it does do is it stops the skin from creasing so hard um so it's really great in the in the ways of like when you sleep on your side especially because those are just side side sleeping lines just like this is a side sleeping line this is you know there's side sleep lines so um it does stop your skin from creasing so much when you use the chest pads you should do that all the time because i'm always like what like on my phone or on the computer or doing anything always like this plus i hate wearing a bra so i feel like, I'm not walking around like this because I'm like, oh, I got a, you know, I'm not wearing a bra.
Starting point is 01:26:42 And I feel like I do this all the time. Maybe that's why I'm, if I had one of those, it wouldn't do it. Can I wear it through the day or just at night? Is it weird? Might be. Is that weird? Your skin doesn't need to breathe a little bit. Okay.
Starting point is 01:26:54 So maybe give it a little break, but especially during sleep time. Okay. It's most important. That's fair. Yeah. All right. I love it. Thank you guys so much for coming, too.
