Starting point is 00:01:45 You're listening to Off the Vine with Caitlin Bristow. Hey, everybody, welcome to Off the Vine. I'm your host, Caitlin Bristow. I have Ray Lynn on the podcast today who is, obviously, you know her as a country singer, but she's just so fun. It felt like a friend. And we just had so much fun on this podcast. You met her on season two of the voice.
Starting point is 00:02:02 She was Team Blake. She's now going on tour with Luke Bryan. So I had to ask about how she's feeling about the viral song that everybody's hating on for Luke Brian. We're talking songwriting, CMA Fest, marriage, Blake Shelton, Dream Collabs, Country Music, Legends, and everything in between. So here is Ray Lynn. Before we talk about CMA Fest, you saw my trophy. Yes. And you said you want to go and dance with the stars.
Starting point is 00:02:27 So, like, dancing with the stars is, like, been one of my bucket list things. But did Jesse tell you how hard it is? It is so hard. Yeah. It is so hard. I've talked to Jesse about it. I've also talked to Sean. Sean said that I would be great at it.
Starting point is 00:02:41 You would. I'm never even though me and my dad just got in a fight about it because he said. Dad's over there saying, yeah. Because it is more structured, you know, like, it's very, I'm sure it's very different from being on stage and entertaining and me doing my dances on day. I mean, like, I don't know how to do the cha- Right. But you would enter, once you got out there and learned the cha-cha, you're, you're a good at entertainer.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Oh my gosh. I would have a blast. Yeah. I mean, like, I love the outfits. I love the energy. Yeah. I'm just like, if I could, like, it's my dream to be on it. I don't even care to win.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I just want to say that I did it. I get that. And then you get a nice paycheck too. And even if you get sent home night, the first week, you won't. That's okay. Yeah. Like, and I just want, like, I feel like every girl that goes on there gets really great, like, dancer abs.
Starting point is 00:03:25 And I think that would be so much fun. to get like dance abs. It didn't happen for me. Yes, it did. You looked great on the show. Well, here's what happened. Thank you for saying that. What happened was I worked my ass off for three months lifting weights, eating clean. I wanted to get, I was like doing everything possible. But let me tell you, there was times where, first of all, it was COVID. I had a false positive test. And if you got COVID, you're out of the competition. And I scream cried. It was false. I had to get four more in a row. and they were all negative. And I was like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:04:00 I, I, I, you injure yourself. It's, it's so hard. But it is so fun. So fun. And Bobby Bones won one year too, right? Yes. Yes. They had to change the rules after Bobby Bones won.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Why? Because it. Why does, what do you want? He was so. I love you, Bobby. And I did. He knows that he was not good. He was not good.
Starting point is 00:04:22 But he had such great energy. He had great energy. Oh, yes. And he's great. He had such loyal fans that that radio nation like rallied behind him for him to win. And they changed the rules where it has to be now like it matters the judge's votes and the voting. Well,
Starting point is 00:04:40 you know what? He broke records. He did. That's kind of awesome. It really is. And I love him. That's so funny. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I feel like, okay, this is our pitch. Okay. Dancing with the Stars. I am your Huckleberry. I will work so hard for you. And I'll be very entertaining. What's what's your like story? You got to have a story to.
Starting point is 00:04:58 What's my story? Yeah. You went on the voice. I went on the voice. Yeah. I'm a mom. Yeah. I travel, work my butt off.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Yeah. And I'm ready to be on dancing with the stars. I don't know. Is that my story? Is that a good enough story? Yes. You just have to say, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Yeah. Yeah. Okay. You painted your nails with sparkles for CMA Fest. Tell me because I feel like I'm also coming off CMA Fest in a much different way than you. I'm really. exhausted. I only did two days. Are you so tired? What two days did you do? Um, Saturday, Sunday. Saturday Sunday. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, it's exhausting. It's a lot. But I mean, I think what it is exhausting,
Starting point is 00:05:38 but I always go back to that's what makes country music so special is CMA Fest. There is no other genre where you as a fan can get a front row seat to see the artists that you love. And I think all of them. That's why country music is so big. because there's that access that fans have. And my first, because before CMA Fest was called CMA Fest, it was called Fanfare. And my first fanfare, CMA Fest, I was 19 years old. Really?
Starting point is 00:06:06 Yeah, it's been, I've, you know, I just, even though it's very exhausting, it is so much fun. It is so much fun to see the fans, to play the shows, and they do a really great job of putting it all together. And, I mean, I've just seen it, it's grown so much. I mean, since country music is, I mean, obviously country music is huge right now. because of like Morgan and Ella.
Starting point is 00:06:27 It's just like I feel like, you know, people were founding out about CMAFSA I didn't even know what it was. Yeah. And then walk a flak a flame? Oh my gosh. I know. It was so, he was great. Walk a flog.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I was so mad because he was at the bar I was at and he just left when I came in. He was supposed to play the tournament because I played the baseball game on Monday. Uh-huh. And he was supposed to play. And I started like, I was like, okay, I'm going to do the no hands TikTok. And so I started by myself and then I was going to end it with him and then he didn't show up. Because apparently his girlfriend was in labor. But she didn't end up having the baby.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Oh. And so. That is a good reason. It is a good reason. But I was still pissed off. Yeah. And so then I saw him on Wednesday at like Hardy had his like big event for his fund where Ella came out and Miranda and all these different artists, which was awesome. And I saw him and I gave him, I gave him shit for not coming to the game.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Okay. Good. But I didn't know about his girlfriend. I was like, okay. You're like fair enough. I get it. Fine. I forgive you. You're like, but you didn't have the baby. Yeah. I was like, did you, I was like, proof. Did you have the baby? I was like, I don't know if I believe you. Yeah. That's so funny. He was really sweet. Wait, what is your take on like Morgan Walling flipping a piano and then I feel like if you did that, you'd get canceled. I wish I could do that. It'd be strong enough to do it. That'd be kind of epic. If I actually could do it, I would do it and be like, ah. I don't know. I feel like women rage is awesome. I, you know what? Honestly, I think it would be very entertaining.
Starting point is 00:07:54 to see my five foot one ass throwing a piano. I think I actually need some press like that. Give me a piano. You need a scandal. And that's how you get on dancing with the stars. Dancing with a Star. You do a scandal, flip a piano, have some women rage. Then your redemption is on dancing with the stars.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And your story is women can be angry too. Can it be like a little piano like my daughter Daisy's piano like a little tiny one? Yes. Actually, that would be really funny. I should redo. You should absolutely do that. would be hilarious. Do you know Ella?
Starting point is 00:08:27 Like, are you friends? Yeah, we're definitely friends. I mean, I wouldn't say we're best friends, but we're like, Ella's the best.
Starting point is 00:08:32 I love her so much. She is just sweet as sugar. Yes, she is. It was funny because I, at the Hardy thing, they were doing free tattoos. And the guy who did my boot tattoo,
Starting point is 00:08:44 his name's Mike, I got this tattoo when I was at Hardy's wedding. Like, I think I had a food, tequila shots. But I was like, so I got this tattoo. And I saw him. I was like, oh my God. He's like, do you want a tattoo? I was like, okay. And he's like, what do you want? I was like, I kind of want a butterfly. And as I was getting my butterfly, the butterfly queen herself walks in. And I was like, oh, my God. It's butterfly. See? It was like, that's meant to be. That is a sign. I love a sign. I love a sign. I know. I love a sunny sign. I was like, what are you trying to tell me, Lord? I'll take it. Also, I just got a tattoo with Snookie yesterday. Snookie? Snookie. Okay. She was.
Starting point is 00:09:24 She was so funny at that Jonas Brothers show. Well, I didn't see. You didn't see it? No. She was like, okay, so what's the song? The, I get going backwards. That one song of theirs that they would like, they pick a girl. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:37 And Joe sings to him. Snooky was the girl. No. Yeah. Snokey's the best. She is? She's so funny. I don't think she'd care if I said this.
Starting point is 00:09:46 So what did y'all get? What is you? What is it? Oh, I just got, I got cherries that are way too big. It's okay. Everybody needs some big cherries. Oh. I keep.
Starting point is 00:09:54 looking at it being like, whoops. But that's how I do. Most of my tattoos, I look at and go, whoops. But the only problem is, like,
Starting point is 00:10:00 they're not, like, a good round shape. Like, it almost looks like one of those pill pockets for dogs, like the greeny pill pocket.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Like, yeah. I have tattoos I regret, too. Well, not regrets the wrong word because I was in a great mindset when I got them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:14 But, like, me and my best friend got cactuses on our foot. And we went in with the, the thought of, oh, we're going to get a cute
Starting point is 00:10:19 little, like, simple line cactus. Yeah. And we left with like the most manly looking hairy cactus and they're they're ugly, but then they're also kind of awesome. Like I'm like, we've actually, my best friend to me, she's my best friend since I was 11. And I'm like, should we get rid of them?
Starting point is 00:10:34 I'm like, they're kind of funny though. Yeah. Oh, I have some really dumb funny ones. I don't really care. Yeah. That's it. Like my girlfriend was like, are you upset about it last night? And I was like, no.
Starting point is 00:10:43 I'm like, it's kind of terrible, but it's kind of funny. I mean, that's red red red. It is red red. I really wanted like a pop of red ink. One of my best friends wants to get like a red lips on her back. Oh, I almost did. When I was 19, I did a lot of dumb shit when I was 19, but I kissed a piece of paper. And I literally went to the tattoo place.
Starting point is 00:11:04 No. Thank God. I was going to get it on my own butt cheek. Like, so you kissing your, so you're kissing your ass? I guess. That's kind of cool, I guess. Your dad is just like, who are these people? No, I didn't do it because my girlfriend actually talked me out of it.
Starting point is 00:11:20 She's like, don't do it. So I got tear drops on my fingers and said so I could go. Actually, that's really funny. Yeah. Stupid. I like that. Stupid and funny. Wait, what were we saying right before?
Starting point is 00:11:30 Snokey. CMA Fest. CMA Fest. Piano throwing. Oh, Snokey. I was going to say she wouldn't. I don't think she'd care if I said this. She's just so funny.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I saw her and she was like, are you going to come to CMA Fest? I was like, yeah. She's like, okay, I'm going to this bar, whatever. So I see her at Whiskey Row. And why wasn't I invited to hang out with you and Snokey at Wixero? Like, I'm pissed off. I should have invited you. It was a crew. Listen, I ever hookabur for fun. Like, I'm not even kidding. Like, there was also Matt Rife, Kane Brown. Oh my gosh. It was at Kane Brown's place. And it was just such a funny crew. Why the hell did you not invite me? Yeah. Kane.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Kane, he totally watches my podcast. So you could just tell that. Caitlin's my best friend. And Kane. Yeah. What the hell? I do love her. She's my girl. But Snokey was hammered. And, uh, we were just dancing all night. I had a lovely conversation with her. And then when I go to meet her for her guest bartending yesterday, she's like, meet me at the top of the stairs. We'll go down together.
Starting point is 00:12:30 She's like, hey, she's like, did I see you last night? And I was like, we had a lovely time. Wait, where did she guest bartend? At John Bon Jovi's. Okay. Which is where I got the tattoo. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I also danced on the bar while she bartended. And then you felt like that moment that y'all had, was it at Kane's bar? Yeah. Was in vain. That's so sad. I know. See, I would never forget if I hung out with you. Really?
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah. You know. Okay. Well, let's find out. Let's find out. Because I heard you say you take a few tequila shots. It's been a while, but that was a fun. Well, I too dabble in a tequila shot.
Starting point is 00:13:02 It was at, yeah, it was, that wedding was so much fun. Hardy's wedding? Yeah, it was the best. Oh my gosh. Probably such a good crew, too. Oh, yeah. When I was two days ago, no, was that yesterday? Whatever day I was the first CMA Fest day.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Okay, it was Saturday. So day before yesterday. everyone was doing tequila shots and I was already like pretty deep into gin and sodas and I was like yeah and I took it and I just spat it right back into my gin and soda and then I was like no I just ruined my gin and soda and then I just but I was like at least I didn't do the tequila shot that that would have been the end for me I can sip gin and soda all night long shots destroy me one of my I have a friend she takes a she doesn't do drinks yeah she'll do a shot oh interesting and then drink water and then do a shot to keep her buzz, which is actually kind of brilliant.
Starting point is 00:13:51 That is brilliant. But this is the thing is you got to drink the water. You have to, have to. But I'm like, okay, everybody has their, they have their rhythm, you know? Did you ever watch Vanderpump and the Valley and the Valley? No. Okay. So this girl, Brittany, Carwright, she was on a show with me that I just filmed and that's
Starting point is 00:14:09 what she does. Okay. She'll just do a tequila shot. She also doesn't like the taste of alcohol, but she wants it to be clean and she just wants to get it over with and then drink water because she likes feeling tips. I was like, that's brilliant. That's really brilliant. No, Kane had his opening.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Was it a couple weeks ago? Yeah. And like we had, it was so much fun. Oh. And everybody was just obviously having a ball. Oh my gosh. His bar is really cool. It's really cool.
Starting point is 00:14:35 It's got a really great, great vibe. It does. I had a lot of fun. I'm, again, you're probably so exhausted to, but you said you've been a part of CMA Fest for so long that it wasn't even CMA Fest when you did it. What still feels magical after? all these years? The fans.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah. I mean, it truly, there's fans that I've literally, there was a fan that I met or saw again this last week. And she's every time I've done a meet and greet, she had all my art pictures printed together. And it was just so cool for her to take the time to put every single photo, every single year. And like, you know, it's just that, that thought, like, put into that is just so kind.
Starting point is 00:15:13 And I think it's what makes, you know, it's special or the fans. They're the reason why we get to do this. Country music fans really are the best. They're amazing. And I, I mean, some people, like, after every one of my shows, like I was out with Jason L. Dean last summer and I'm out with Luke, I try to do meet and greets if they let the venue will allow me. Because it's like, if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have the careers we have.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And the fans are so, and the fans are really respectful too. Everyone's flying. Are they? Because now I'm thinking about Luke Bryan and I'm like, people are really giving him a hard time about this song. I love it. I love that Luke just doesn't care. You know, Luke, do you think Luke gives a shit about anybody?
Starting point is 00:15:53 He loves that people are like, given, like, that's the thing is you got to let stuff roll off your back. I think people take it too serious. Well, I'm like, the Puerto Rico song is an AI and it blew up. Like, nobody cares. Also, his song is not AI. No, it's not. And it's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:16:09 It is awesome. It's, I'm like, can we not look back at his career and respect everything he's ever done and he's one of the greatest entertainers of all time? and he writes one song that people don't like and they're like. Oh, and it's insane. And it's like he reminds me, him, his stage presence to me is very parallel to Blake Shelton. Like, I was on Team Blake. Obviously, I was baby child.
Starting point is 00:16:31 But him and him and Blake both interact with the crowd so well. And their fan engagement is every artist should go to a Luke Bryan show, should go to a Blake show and be a student because they are so great with the crowd. And they make everybody feel seen by having a few engagements with like three or four people. It's really beautiful. I also feel like what happens online is something goes viral. Then everyone jumps on that because it will go viral. So then everyone's just doing the hate on Luke's song because it's hot right now online. But you know what's happening?
Starting point is 00:17:09 He's getting more downloads. And he don't care. And he doesn't care. Yeah, he does not care. I love. I just, I don't know. His dance moves are so hilarious. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:17:17 He's just so, it's going to be such a fun summer. Like, we kicked off the tour a couple weeks ago. You're touring with him? Yes. We're touring right now. Oh my God. Amazing. Oh, gosh.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Come to a show. I would absolutely like, I was just going to say he is one of my favorite people to go watch. Oh my gosh. Come this summer. Okay. Come to Michigan. Come to a show. It'd be so fun.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Michigan. See you there. Yeah. Well, come on. No, but we, we did it in Gilford, New Hampshire, which is one of my favorite venues ever. Yes. They have like a pool back there, a cute little tree house. a golf simulator.
Starting point is 00:17:49 And besides it being 44 degrees. Oh. Insane. Ew. Wait. Like my brain goes Celsius because I'm Canadian. Oh, yeah. 44 Fahrenheit?
Starting point is 00:18:00 Yes. It was freezing. Yeah. That's cold. Okay. Got it. Yeah. And I don't wear pants on stage.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Okay. Oh, gosh. But I think God, I had like my performance tights that I were. Yeah. But it was, we had so much fun. And he was so great. And I forget how many Luke Bryan saw. I was like, girl, you make my speakers go boom, boom.
Starting point is 00:18:20 What a jam. I'm, no, what's the one song I love of his so much I could listen to it on repeat? Country girl, shake it for me, girl. He ends with that one. There's another one too that I love. He has so many epic songs. Oh, the roller coaster. That's a great song.
Starting point is 00:18:39 No, but every time you sing, I'm just like. That's a good one. There's a lot of them. Or I like to kick the dust up. I do love that song. That's a good one. He has so many good songs. I feel like my parents are big Luke Bryan fans too.
Starting point is 00:18:51 I love it. And that's like a part of a memory for me. My happy place is at my parents' lake house in the summer in Canada. And I just picture eating my mom's ribs that she makes so good. And listening to Luke Bryan and watching the sunset and being on the water or the boat and just, we, I grew up on country music. And I just love it so much. Moving on. I want to move on from CMA Fest and talk more.
Starting point is 00:19:14 But my last question is, who do you think won to CMA Fest this year? like not obviously there wasn't like a prize but like like MVP who left with the most buzz i think walk a flock of flame yeah truly like i feel like everybody was talking about walka like he was like at every event yeah it's so funny because my buddies my buddies are like you know golfing like you know good good old boys like i see them on stage with him like and i said is that my buddy Jeffrey is that his brother Dane on stage will walk a flock of flame like it was he was like I would say that he stole I think he gets CMA MVP that's okay let's give it to him that's amazing stage was like so lit this year that's the stage I played that stage on Friday and um it was I got
Starting point is 00:20:00 Dash it was after me which was fun I got to Lacey K Booth who I was I was just talking about her oh my god holy shit she's good I made her do the buy with the mechanical boo I made her do the She is so good. And she's so hot. Okay. I literally am gay for her. I listen. I understand.
Starting point is 00:20:20 I am. I watched her. I love watching your dad's reactions, by the way. He's the best. My dad is literally laughing in the corner. My Louisiana dad loves LSU. Oh my God. Los you.
Starting point is 00:20:32 What is their team? Taggers. What do you say? Go tigers. Yeah. Go tigers. That right, Dad? He's just quiet.
Starting point is 00:20:39 He's just quiet. like this bitch I was no idea um but I was I saw her I was at Nissan last night her her um yeah she's like a country Atlanta del Rey uh-huh I'm obsessed with her oh that's a good way to put it and she's just like so ethereal and like I just I'm obsessed with her yeah she's I think I probably scare her a little bit when I see her because I'm just I just love her so much no I was staring like a freak last night just like into her eyes even though she was on it was I was like looking at the you know and they obviously on the side they have the big screens. I was just like, holy shit.
Starting point is 00:21:12 She's mesmerizing. Oh, yeah. And she's so sweet. Dasha, I always forget how tall dash is. Dash is so, she's probably actually normal. Like, but I'm just so short. I'm 5.1. Like, 5.1 and 1 third, actually. Okay. Okay. Just rounded up. I thought I was 5 to my whole life and then I went to the primary care position and they told me I was 5.1. That's hilarious. You're a liar. No, but it was, um, the, the riverfront stage was lit. Yeah. Oh, that's fun.
Starting point is 00:21:37 That's, also I was, the second I was, walking into Nissan last night, I hear, yeah, baby. And it was Russell Dickerson and, um, oh my gosh, Fettie Watt. And I was like, yeah, B-O-O-T-S down. It's so good. It is so good. Oh, I love it. I had Russell on the pod not too long ago and I just love him and his wife so much.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Oh, they're precious. And so seeing him just like have his moment again and like have it with freaking Fetty Wop. I'm like, this is amazing. My dream was to do a song with Miley Cyrus. I'm putting it up there too. I was going to ask you if you could have a dream. Dream, okay. I have two.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Of course, Dolly Parton. She's my, but I'm saying like somebody current that like I love that I'm just obsessed with their vibe and they're a little wild and like I just love Miley. I've always loved Miley. Me too. She is so great.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Her voice is stupid. Insane. And she's only gotten better and I just love the rasp. And I think she's just like, she's kind of been one of those girls too that just owns her. mess, but like, she's so beautiful in it, though. So beautiful in it. And she's so like, real, real. Yeah. So my, um, one of my really good friends and I would consider one of my best friends,
Starting point is 00:22:52 remember her song, my best friend Leslie said, oh, she, so her best friend Leslie is one of my best friends, Leslie. Yeah. So she grew up with Leslie. Like they were, they went to, they did cheerleading together, all this stuff. Like, it's funny because she still, we'll talk about Leslie. She's like, Leslie's so. Leslie is so. Leslie. Leslie is. truly one of the funniest best people in the world. But when Leslie met me, her biggest compliment, she was, you brought me so much in my lady. I was like, what? Really? That's awesome. I'll never forget. I went to one of, because I'm friends with Brandy and I went to one of myelie's Fourth of July parties. I want to be invited to a Fourth of July party.
Starting point is 00:23:28 I didn't know where I was at one point, but I was in a backwards hat and a bathing suit jumping off her diving board when like everybody was going home. I think I was invited to one of those and I didn't go. You should go. I'm so sad. It was very funny. Brandy is, Brandy is amazing and her mom. I love them both. Oh, the mom.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Talk about aging backwards. No, it's stunning. It's actually, her mom, I have a girl crush on her mom. She doesn't even do anything. She doesn't do Botox. She doesn't do anything. No, okay, don't even say that.
Starting point is 00:23:53 No, I know. She's so looks so great. I know. She's amazing. And she's a hoot. She's so funny. She's such a trip. I love her so much.

Okay, every year for Father's Day, I ask my dad, hey, what do you want? And every year I get the exact same answer, it's, I'm not nothing, I don't need anything, which is funny because the man clearly needs things. For example, my dad loves golf, loves it, lives for it, talks about it constantly,
Starting point is 00:25:53 and yet somehow he still wears shoes and clothes that look like they've played every round since 2007. So this is when I realized the trick to shopping for dads is don't buy them something new, upgrade something they already have. Genius. Maybe it's a fresh pair of coal hand sneakers. Maybe it's a new Tommy Hill figure linen shirt that he can wear from the golf course straight to dinner. Or maybe it's a Braville barista express espresso maker
Starting point is 00:26:17 if your dad treats making coffee like a professional sport like mine. And it's the same dad, just a slightly elevated version, okay? And those are always the gifts that actually get used. So if you're still trying to figure out Father's Day, Macy's makes it easy. You can shop online or in store or buy online or pick it up in store if you're cutting it a little close. Check out Macy's online Father's Day gift guide for even more ideas to find dad something he'll actually love this year. Shop in store or online at Macy's.com.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Obviously, you were team, Blake, when you were on the boys. Are you guys still friends? Yes. Oh, my gosh. Blake has been somebody that's always been a constant in my life. I love that. So great. I definitely made the right decision because him and Adam turned around for me.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Love you, Adam. You're great. Yeah. But Blake has always been just a big supporter and always like somebody. I've had so much transition with labels and the business and life. And he's always been like that steady that I could call. Oh, I love that. And he's precious.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Do people get like, is he misunderstood or people get it right about him? Like I never know because there's so many people, especially in like the industry of entertainment or reality TV, TV that people people get things wrong about them. Is there anything that people that people get wrong about Blake Shelton? No, I think Blake is very authentic. That's what I think too. And he cares about people. Yeah. He loves.
Starting point is 00:27:40 He's just, he really. does love life too. I think he, I think he's done a really great job with everything that's been thrown at him. Yeah. The person you see on stage is the person he is behind closed doors. I love that. And I think even a better of a person, you know, he just really cares about the people he cares about.
Starting point is 00:27:55 That's cool. Have you met Garth Brooks? Yes. Oh, yes. His music to me is... I opened up for him one time. That's cool. He just had random people open up and we couldn't, like we couldn't promote it or anything. But we had they would find out, you know, when they came to the show.
Starting point is 00:28:13 But it was kind of cool, but like it was just acoustic. It was like 30 minute acoustic. Everybody had the same spot, one opener. And I got, I forgot, was it an Indianapolis? Maybe it was Indianapolis. That's awesome. I, why can't you get his music on Apple Music or Spotify? I think he's like, you know, doing, because of the song, right, I'm not, I could be getting
Starting point is 00:28:31 this wrong, but just everything going on with, um, the litigation of, is that right? Spotify and stuff like that. He just wants, it's people to go buy his music, like actually. enough. Which I understand, you know. Fair enough. I remember. And he's Garth Brooks.
Starting point is 00:28:45 He can do that. He can. And he, yeah, he is that level that he can. I'll never forget. I was, um, I somehow found myself being friends with the, um, Madden brothers, like, from good Charlotte. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Good. And they were talking and my girlfriend said to him. My girlfriend's like, what do you sing again? And he's like, um, like, lifestyle's of the rich and the famous. And she was like, oh yeah, I burn your music onto a CD. And he was like, don't tell me. that. Don't tell me that. A lime wire it. Yeah, I'm talking to Martin Johnson from
Starting point is 00:29:17 Boys Like Girls. Then he goes, that's my favorite is when a fan comes up and they're like, oh, LimeWired, your music. You're like, thanks guys. Well, at least just buy a ticket to some shows. It's so funny. I was like, oh, my God, shut up. Is it crazy that some people won't know what LimeWire is? Yeah, Kelly, you? What a time. Okay.
Starting point is 00:29:34 What a time, what a time. How old are you? I'm at, I don't want to say my age 32. What? So you think I'm old? Huh? You think I'm old. Why don't you want to say your age at 32? I'm just like 32 is a baby. Really? I'm 41 in like eight days. You're not 41. In eight days. You look great. So do you. Thank you. I literally told you when you walked in, you're aging backwards. 32 is a baby. I don't even think 60 is old. No, I agree with you. My dad just turned 70. And you look great. Happy birthday, dad. What's his sign? What are you? You're Jim. aren't you?
Starting point is 00:30:10 Yeah. He knows, Gemini. True Gemini. What do you mean by that, true Gemini? Well, what is,
Starting point is 00:30:18 what? Like you're, he's a twin. He's twin brother. Oh. You want to hear all redneck this is, Barry and Gary.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Barry and Gary. It's like, hey, we're going to have twins. Oh, Barry. Gary. What if they did Jerry? No, I like Gary.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Oh, wait, that's so funny. My neighbor has twins and I'm obsessed with the family's so sweet and they have twin boys named Bert and Roy. I love that.
Starting point is 00:30:40 Isn't that the cutest you've ever heard? Like, they're four. Burton Roy. No, but I feel like I, there's so many, I don't know. I've been in the industry since I started when I was, I was 18 on the voice. Yeah. Actually, I was 17 when I auditioned. Yeah, because my mom came, was with me.
Starting point is 00:30:57 My mom and dad both were with me because I was underage. So yeah, it's been a long, 15, wait, is that right? Is that the right time? 15 years in the industry? Oh, my gosh. Were you like, when you got pregnant, were you like, uh-oh, I could have twins? or would you love that? Oh, I was so anxious.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Whatever. I was a little anxious. But if I had twins, I'd have been excited. I'd be so excited. That is my dream to pregnant with twins and be done. Done and done. Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Do you want more kids? Yeah, eventually. Yeah, totally. I love that. Yes, you're an artist, but also you're a songwriter. And like that's such an art form. And I feel like people will get enough credit for like the songwriting part of it. But I read Kelly Clarkson said something like,
Starting point is 00:31:37 she always says she wishes she not only, wrote but also got to record Miranda Lambert's Tin Man. Oh, such a song. So as a songwriter, what's one song you wish you had written and got to sing yourself? There's a few. Okay. But I would say one that still stops me in my tracks is the house that built me by Miranda. So good.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Because when I heard that song, it just completely wrecked me. And then when you find out the story, like Tom Douglas wrote that song. And it was a song that he worked on for literally 10 years or something wild. Really? Really? He rewrote it multiple times. And Tom Douglas is truly one of the greatest songwriters ever. Wow. I mean, his attention to detail, like, and the first time I wrote with him, I was so anxious.
Starting point is 00:32:20 It was just me and him. Yeah. So nervous. And like, but he just wanted to sit and talk and we just, it was practically like a therapy session for a while. And then as I was talking, he was writing. And then he was like, well, what about this? And then literally we wrote the song in like an hour.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Whoa. But that song is just by far one of the first. one of my favorites. I'm going to listen to you after that because I forgot about that song. It's so good. It is. I love when music wrecks you. Oh, it wrecks me. The first time I heard it. What's another song that wrecks me? There's so many songs that I love. I don't know. I drive your truck is another one. Lee Bryce. I love that song. He's so great. That song is just absolutely insane. Fun fact. When I was on The Bachelor, we had to write a song for our bachelor, Chris Souls. And I was like, okay, do I be funny and write a rap? Or do I actually, like, show him I'm not just funny. And like, because I was like just trying to whip out all my best jokes, not knowing when I go home.
Starting point is 00:33:19 How do I show him that I'm different? Like, have you seen those? Have you seen those TikToks where it's like a girl at a Morgan Wallin concert or a girl at like a show concert? And it's like, I'm trying to be too into the show. So he thinks I'm in. Yeah, that was me. I'm a bachelor.
Starting point is 00:33:37 I was like, I don't want him to think I'm obsessed of them, but I don't want him to think I'm like, do I show my fun set or do you know, I write him a serious song. So I did both. I wrapped and talked about, plug your ears, dad. I said, red pedal fever makes me touch my beaver. Oh no. Because I'm Canadian and I thought that was funny. That is funny.
Starting point is 00:33:58 But then I went into this little ballad. And I was like, I'm going to use to the tune of, um, I don't dance by Lee Bryce. I don't dance. Yeah. Yeah. I did that. And I was like, you did the whole, you did the Brad Paisley where he starts off slow and goes, you know, gets into a fast song.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Yeah. You did it reverse. I reversed it up. Versed cowgirl did. Yeah. Yeah. I hit him with the reverse cowgirl. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:25 He loved it. He did. Yeah. Because he was like, oh, you are funny. And you can sing. And you. See, you did exactly what. What a girl on a mission.
Starting point is 00:34:33 I'm proud of you. Yeah. I'm competitive. And I said, but I didn't even win that date. date. I didn't get the rose that date. It's okay. We don't care about that. It was the first time I cried on national television. It was that night. Anyways. I cried on national television too when I didn't get picked on the voice. Really? Well, yeah. But then I met Justin Bieber and he kissed me on the cheek.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Shut up! And I was like, ah! Wait, you don't. Can I lick your cheek? I mean, maybe later. He literally, it was when he came on the voice, I was 17. And he was singing, if I was a boyfriend, I never let you go. So it was like, it was like hype. Justin Bieber days. And I met him and he kissed me on the cheek. And so I remember bawling backstage in my interviews, you know, my NBC interviews, like they, you know, we're doing. And I was like, but I met Justin Bieber. Like I was just like, you know, it is what it is.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Put that on your tombstone. I love him so much. You know. Oh, I just got like him. He knew what he was doing. I got a little jealousy there, like a little ping of jealousy. I was 17. And I was at like the prime like.
Starting point is 00:35:34 And I was on the voice because you did good tonight. I was like, did I? Thanks. Oh, I love that. It was so fun. He, I know he watched my season of The Bachelor, so I'm like, just the fact that he knows who I am. And then I read somewhere that your dreams are actually real in another realm.
Starting point is 00:35:47 And I went, good thing, because I'm with Bieber at least three times a night. Okay, I know there's a lot of like, like there. Dreaming in my dreams. There was different people's opinions about Coachella. I thought he killed it. I loved it. I thought it was. Oh, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Did he just grace us with his. raw vocals. And I thought it was so cool to give the fans like, and the thing is I love both. I loved what Sabrina did. I love the dancers. I love the outfits. I loved.
Starting point is 00:36:18 We got a stripped down Justin Bieber. And then we got a stripped down Justin Bieber and him like giving like, I thought it was cool. And I think every artist being able to showcase and like put their art out there and the way they want to is the way that we should do it. And like I thought it was awesome. I was very mad at the internet of anyone who called it boring. internet. Oh. Because people were crazy. Yeah, that's why I'm mad at them because I'm like,
Starting point is 00:36:42 but there are people that loved it. The fans loved it though. The real fans. And if they didn't love it, they don't appreciate art. Oh, him harmonizing to his younger self made me so emotional. I cried. I cried. And then I went into another realm with him that night in my dreams. I got to get over it. It's so bad. It's like, if he ever finds out, you know how Haley Bieber was like a fan at first and now she's dating him and then they are pulling up all this stuff of how she was a fan girl? I'm like, who cares? Yeah, that's going to happen when they get... First of all, who wouldn't want to marry somebody
Starting point is 00:37:09 that doesn't truly like embrace what makes them who they are? Yeah. I think that's beautiful. I love Haley. But when they do get a divorce, I'm on deck. Okay. Okay?
Starting point is 00:37:21 Just so that's clear to everybody in the room. You heard it here first. And then they're going to pull up these clips and I'm going to be like, I said it. I know it's weird. But it's still happening. Okay. I don't want to sound like your grandma,
Starting point is 00:37:31 but a good night's sleep can completely change my mood and your mood. Okay, honestly, I have officially reached the age where getting into a really comfortable bed is just the highlight of my day. I'm going to take that as a good thing. That means I'm a very busy woman, okay? I have the Bowlen Branch duvet set in the oak color for my apartment. Honestly, shocked by how much it changed the whole feel of the bedroom. It's so elevated.
Starting point is 00:37:53 It's beautiful. But really what sold me was how comfortable everything feels. I know I've talked about being a hot sleeper, especially in the summer. And then what I love about Bowlen Branch is that their bedding is so breathable. without feeling thin and soft without making you overheat. And their sheets are made from 100% organic cotton and woven specifically for airflow, which makes such a difference. And sleep has become one of those things that I just, I don't mess around with anymore.
Starting point is 00:38:20 If I'm investing in anything, it's the place where I spend eight hours or 10. Every night between the sheets and my new duet and my new duvet set, my bed feels cooler, softer, way more comfortable at the end of the day. It's just one of those upgrades where the second you get into bed, you just notice the difference. So sleep cooler this summer with Bull and Branch during their annual summer event. Starting point is 00:39:00 Okay, hear me out. This is such a me thing. Summer is actually when I use a hoodie the most. like one minute, it's 85 degrees outside and the next you're in somewhere where it's like the lasting AC freezing or on a plane sitting under aggressive air conditioning. Just out with friends after the sun goes down, wishing you had brought a layer. But that's why I've been reaching for my Apaka hoodie that I've told you guys about so many times. I reach for it nonstop.
Starting point is 00:39:23 Packet makes outdoor and lifestyle apparel from alpaca fiber and their best selling hoodie is honestly unlike anything else in my closet because it's softer than cashmere, which is wild. It's warmer than wool, but then it's somehow. is still breathable and lightweight. And I think what surprised me the most is that it doesn't feel bulky. It's just one of those pieces that you throw in your carry on or keeping your car or tie around your waist.
Starting point is 00:39:46 I've been loving it around the shoulders, to be honest with you. Very Montauk hamptons of me, because you know that you're going to need it at some point. And once you put it on, you just don't want to take it off. I also love that every hoodie is made start to finish in Peru and features an Inca ID hand-wovein that is connecting you directly to where your clothing comes from. It's so cute and really, intentional and thoughtfully made. So special. Over 250,000 people have already picked up a pack of hoodie
Starting point is 00:40:12 and I totally get why. Mine has become my go-to travel hoodie. My go to chili restaurant hoodie. My go to everything hoodie. I really do think all of you would love it too. So to grab your pack of hoodie, go to www.pacahaparel.com. That's www. p-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-parel.com. Since we're talking songwriting country music, I want to get into some opinions, just some hot takes, You will. Okay. I won't know if I'll be too hot with my hot takes, but we'll figure it out. Well, they can be lukewarm.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Okay. Most underrated country song of all time. Most underrated country song of all time. Oh my gosh. I'm trying to think. Well, is it? What do I think is the most underrated country song of all time? I mean, like the one song, like I think about deep cuts like that I love of people.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Yeah. Like I love that song by. And I don't think you ever had it as a single, but Morgan, Morgan Wallen's song Quentin Time is one of my favorites. Oh, yeah. And that song by, I think Eric Church wrote it.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Oh. I think, I'm trying to think of deep cuts. I think that song's great. Okay. I'm trying to think underrated. Well, yeah,
Starting point is 00:41:31 it's hard to say. You know, I think there's, there's so many. I think one of the most underrated country artist that I loved when I first moved here was Charlie Worsham. Oh, I don't even know who that is.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Like he's, that's what I'm saying. Like Charlie Worsham, his record rubber band, he has, he has a song. If you are listening to this podcast, I want you listen to this song. Okay. Mississippi and July. Like, we all have songs like as songwriters that we wish, like I wish I would wrote that song. Really? Such, like he, that's still one of the best records.
Starting point is 00:42:01 Wow. Oh. And Charlie Worshom is amazing. That's, what is the song that Morgan does cover me up? Great. Before you put it out, um, as a song, like, I would just listen to it on YouTube. Really? Oh my God. Yeah, I'm obsessed with that song.
Starting point is 00:42:16 What's a country song that always gets everyone singing? Like they know every word to every, every. Rock me, mama, like a wagon wheel. Yes, come on, wagon wheel. Or I got friends in low places. That's a good one. Have you ever seen? Or Blake's song, This is Austin.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Oh, oh my God. I love that song. That's always so old and so iconic. Oh, my gosh. It's literally so good. And his mullet is awesome. The mullet, I know. I actually saw that music video not even that long ago, and I was like, wow.
Starting point is 00:42:47 What a time. What a time. I am so into Colin Baton Rouge right now because I saw, there's this couple on, let me see if I can just quickly pull them up. There's this couple on Instagram, who I love, and I want to give them the shout out that they deserve. It is. Are they an influencer? Well, an influencer hicklemen.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Terry and. Kenya? Kenya? No, I don't know them. They basically, they listen to music and they, Oh, and they give your opinion. They geek out when it hits hard. And they did Garth Brooks, Colin Baton Rouge. And I was like, I refell in love of the song. Oh, I figure out. Okay. Continue. That happened. Oh, I've seen this couple. Yeah. They are so awesome. They're so awesome. And they're like,
Starting point is 00:43:37 and they get, and then they pause it and they're like, Do you see what he did there? They flipped. He flipped his voice. I'm still with her. I figured out my underrated song. Well, okay. Hardy.
Starting point is 00:43:50 So the MacArthur song, I think is insane. Oh, okay. I'm going to listen to that. You heard that song? No. It's just talking about like, you know, it's Eric Church, Tim McGrawl, Morgan Wallen, and who's the other one? Hardy. Hardee.
Starting point is 00:44:04 He sings on the song. And they just go through like generations of wealth and like messing it down. And I think, I think Hartley says, is one of the most incredible songwriters. Yeah. He's not, I don't think he is. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:16 One of the most amazing song. I saw him perform last night. And then his song, wait in the truck, I think is a just, well, that song was a huge hit. But there's just so many songs of his.
Starting point is 00:44:25 What about the one? I literally, or like in heaven some hell. I will throw my neck out to, um, I woke up on the wrong side of the trumpet. I, like,
Starting point is 00:44:36 I'll like get in my car and I will just when that one part hits. Oh yeah. When I shot my first deer last. last fall. Get it? With the crossbow. With the crossbow. Oh, heck.
Starting point is 00:44:46 Whoa. Yeah. She country. She country. Pull up the photo. Just kidding. But I actually did. I remember I was like,
Starting point is 00:44:53 whoa, to wall and I stand. I was so. I don't know why I felt like the first person I sent the photo to was Hardy. I was like, I just wanted to take the D-Rash. That embarrassing. I am. I sent it to Hardy and then I sent it to Rhett Aiken's and Ben Hayslip. There's songwriters.
Starting point is 00:45:10 in town. Well, Rhett Aiken is Thomas Rett's dad. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, all my country boys, I had to send this, I was like, look what you girl got? My first deer, baby. Isn't it funny how much testosterone comes out of your body when you do something? Dude, okay, I've never thought about the buck fever thing. You know, people are like, oh, you get hot when you see the buck. I'm like, oh, we'll see it. I'm freaking freezing in this thing.
Starting point is 00:45:30 Yeah. Trying to have my hot hands and stuff. I literally, the buck came out, and I was like, I got to take clothes off. And I started taking my clothes. And then I got him. This, okay, sorry. I don't want to spoil anything on the show that's coming up that I filmed,
Starting point is 00:45:44 but there's one part where I'm already having so much anxiety about what they're going to show because something happened and I am so competitive. And I all of a sudden went into full bro mode and I think I even did this in the camera. Oh, no. I'm scared. So everyone just prepare yourself for that moment and know that I'm embarrassed. Okay, it's okay. I don't want to know what I.
Starting point is 00:46:08 I was like flexing, doing this. I was like, showing your muscles. Let's, what's fucking out. Let's go. I don't know what. I'm ready to see it. I am on testosterone cream, so maybe I had a little extra on that day. But, oh, my.
Starting point is 00:46:21 It's working. Okay, last hot take. If someone wanted to get into country music tomorrow, what three songs would you make them listen to first? They wanted to get into country music tomorrow. Yeah. Three songs you make them listen to first. Nine to five.
Starting point is 00:46:37 Yeah. Okay. dollar apartment. Fancy by Rubber Macintyre. God, I love him. And probably all my exes live in Texas by George Strait. Oh, George Strait, God, yes. George Strait is, by the way.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Those are the right answers. George Strait is just the king. Truly. I got to open up a format show. No, you didn't. In a stadium in Ohio. Oh, my gosh. Buckass Stadium.
Starting point is 00:47:04 And actually, Blake was opening up for him, too. It was like, that was such a fun show. Wow, iconic. But he's just so iconic. He had four mics on stage, one, two, three, four. And he just kept his guitar on the whole time and would just go from mic to Mike, smile that freaking Colgate smile. And he's just a superstar.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Wow. You've done some cool things in your career. I know. It's been, it's been, I've been blessed. What do you think, like, the biggest highlight for you has been personally? The, my grandel opera debut was a big one. Yeah, that's huge. That was a, that was a really amazing moment.
Starting point is 00:47:40 And I'm trying to. Thank. I mean, that's a good one. I would say playing, I was on Kane's, like, stadium shows in 20, 24. And Kane and Caitlin are some of my, probably some of my best friends in Nashville. And I was on Kane's first arena tour that he ever did. And to see him go from arenas to stadiums was just epic. And I never forget, I was at this place called Dos Margaritas,
Starting point is 00:48:11 It's a Mexican restaurant Hendersonville, kind of where I live. And him and him and Caitlin called me. He's like, hey, do you want to play some stadiums with me next year? And I was just like, okay. And it's just like, you know, it was just such a cool moment. And so to see your friend just hit that and then being able to play and be a part of that was really fun. Yeah. So that was, those were some really fun shows that I'll never forget.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Dad, are you so proud? I'm proud of her and I'm not here you're just a friend you know I'm proud of you like when you have a kid it brings a you're living when you're living for something besides
Starting point is 00:48:52 you know yeah this industry can get very crazy but she is my steady for instance we were talking about that show where it's 44 degrees outside and it was raining also on top of it oh good you know and I'm stressed
Starting point is 00:49:02 and I'm like I just did my hair or whatever she runs off the bus and goes muddy puddles and she just starts running in the puddles it's just like you know know what? We could all go through life and having a childlike spirit. Yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:49:13 and she's just, and she's just the most epic kid. She actually came on stage with me yesterday. Oh, sweetie. During God made girls. And she's saying God made girls with me. It's just,
Starting point is 00:49:21 it's so sweet. How old does she know? She's four. Four, what a funny age. She's tall. Oh, is she so tall. Yeah, she goes up to my belly button.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Daisy, right? I love that name. Yeah. That is so cute. God. She is sweet of sugar. I love that. How fun.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I want one. It won. Okay. I'm working on it. You have two pubs, right? Yeah. Golden Retrievers? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:43 They're so cute. They are. I did birth them, so. Okay, insurance is not one size fits all. Starting point is 00:51:38 I didn't know this, that you live with type 1 diabetes. Yes. Okay. I didn't know that. Do you talk about it a lot? I do. I mean, I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 12 years old. And I got diagnosed when I was, was I 11 or 12.
Starting point is 00:52:02 I was 11 or 12. Yeah. And I mean, it was, it's been like, I have a, I wear an insulin pump. Yep. On my hip. And I started my, Raylan Diabetes Foundation. Oh, amazing.
Starting point is 00:52:15 And we do a big celebrity golf tournament. You should play. I would love, I love playing golf. I'm really good. Will you do it? Yes. Okay. We're going to figure it out.
Starting point is 00:52:21 I'll give you the day after this. Okay, okay, okay. But it's been, I think that's one of the coolest parts about what I'll never forget. And it was funny when, because the Jonas Brothers dad manages me. Mm-hmm. And one of the first things that I loved when I, you know, was a big fan of the Jonas brothers was that Nick was so open about his type 1 diabetes. and to have representation, I think is so important.
Starting point is 00:52:45 And so one thing that I've always loved to do is to talk about it because it is something that I have to deal with every single day. And if you don't know what type 1 diabetes is, it's different than type 2 because my pancreas doesn't work at all where your pancreas produces insulin when you eat. Right. Mine doesn't. So I have to wear a pump. But it's so sweet when I have like a sweet little girl that has type 1 diabetes and she wants me to sign her pump.
Starting point is 00:53:08 Totally. She's like, will you be my diabestia? I'm like, yes. And it's, it really is, it really is special. But I mean, it's had, it's, it's had its moments of being hard. But yeah, of course. There's so much research now and there's so much, like, it's so different. Like, I didn't have a pump when I first got.
Starting point is 00:53:25 I just gave myself injection shots. Oh, yeah. And so it's grown, like the, just all the things and technology has gotten so great. But it's great because my foundation or my fund, we are able to help families directly that need help covering cost of insulin and, and, um, and diabetes supplies and stuff like that. Because even when you have great insurance, like I remember towards the end,
Starting point is 00:53:47 and my dad would never, you'd never say this out loud, but I remember like towards the end of the year when our deductibles would go up, there'd be, it'd be expensive, but close to $1,500 just to get the things that I needed just to survive.
Starting point is 00:53:58 And so I'm really grateful to be able to help families directly with costs and stuff like that. And even young adults, anybody that needs it, we're just like, anybody just can submit and we help do grants. and stuff like that. And I love it so much.
Starting point is 00:54:12 How can people get involved or donate or where can they? On my website. Yeah. And we're going to do a big, I do a golf tournament in the night before. I think that's the 24th. We're going to have a listening room show in both shows. Any fans can come to and all the money goes to my diabetes fund. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:54:30 I'll be great. Sorry. I get passionate. Yeah. I love when people have something where it gives back. Yes. Because I'm trying to find something right now. I want to like start something so.
Starting point is 00:54:41 badly. And I don't know what like I think something around mental health maybe, but I just, mental health is so important. Yes. And people don't realize that. Yes. And another thing that we helped with is like when I was 14 and 15 kind of going through puberty and all those things, not kind of. I was in it. Yeah. You know, my diabetes was wild and there's so much when your body's changing, um, you know, your levels are changing. Your hormones are changing. That was like, and I, so I had to like get some education on how to manage my diabetes in that moment. So another thing that we do is help give education to young teens so that way. Because I, my sugar was like, there was a moment when my diabetes wasn't well because I
Starting point is 00:55:24 wasn't educated properly. So education is super important. Wow, good for you. How little angel pie you are. You are. You're sweet as sugar. You're sweet as sugar. Sweet as sugar.
Starting point is 00:55:35 And me and Eric, Eric Pasley, who's an artist, he's amazing artist. he we both have done this so we always talk about this but one time I had I was having a low on stage and I was like hey I need a you know I need you to get me some OJ and so I literally had a red solo cup and I just downed the OJ but everybody thought that I was drinking an actual drink yeah and I was like just an orange juice but yeah it was so funny like just uh party animals just trying to get my sugar it. Actually, it's funny, when Blake, when Blake first met me, he would always get so stressed about my diabetes. Like, he was stressed about so much. And he even told me when, so I named it the Rayland Diabetes Fund, but our tag is beat the beaties. And he was the one that, he was the one that came out
Starting point is 00:56:23 came out with. Oh, I love that. Beat the beets. That's brilliant. It's cute. I think it's so cute. We do beat the beat the beads hats and everything. You should do something with Riley from Dancing with the Stars. She also has that. Oh, she does? Yes. Yes. And she always is very open about it and talks about it too. And there's a girl, a Peloton girl that has Type 1 diabetes. Yes, yes. She's a queen. Kendall?
Starting point is 00:56:43 No, it's not Kendall. I know what's her name. Yeah, I know you're talking about. Yeah, but it's not her. No. I follow her. I can't remember her name. I can't remember her name either.
Starting point is 00:56:52 What do you wish people understood about living with it every day? It's an invisible disease. So people don't see, you know, they think that, you know, or people have just very, like, different views on type 1 diabetes. A lot of people think it was put on. on like, you know, because type, type two, I think is more controllable. But type one is just kind of just luck of the draw. You don't really?
Starting point is 00:57:15 I think people are like, oh, did you eat too many donuts as a kid? Yeah. So I got it. Nope, I just kind of my banker. Just kind of stopped working. So I think it's just the stigma around it. It's like we did something to cause it, but we didn't. It's just the way our body handled it.
Starting point is 00:57:30 What age did you say it happened at? 11 or 12. And then how was pregnancy with it? Is that? I had a great pregnancy. Okay. I had a great pregnancy. I had to go in towards the end of my pregnancy every week and get an ultrasound because the biggest risk when you're pregnant with diabetes is the baby getting too big.
Starting point is 00:57:48 The day's perfect. Amazing. Yeah. She was great. Wow. I just waddled my ass in there every week. I had to do those no stress tests. I'm like, well, I'm stressed as being here.
Starting point is 00:57:57 I hate the hospital. I'm like, you're doing this to me. Yes. My last segment is you only, it's called you only get one. Okay. Oh, God. It's rapid fire, and I'm just going to ask between two country music legends, you have to pick one of who you'd want to perform with or duet with. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:58:16 Dolly Parton or Reba McIntyre. Dolly Parton. George Strait or Alan Jackson? George Strait. Chennai, Twain or Faith Hill? Chenai Twain. Tim McGar or Kenny Chesney? Kenny.
Starting point is 00:58:29 Garth Brooks and Dunn. Brooks and Dunn. Okay. Miranda Lambert or Carrie Underwood? Miranda. Lainey Wilson or Kelsey Ballerini? Probably Laney. Luke Combs or Eric Church? Eric Church. Okay, well, I already know the answer to my other question because it was going to be who's one country artist living or gone? That would make you lose your mind if they asked you to sing with him. I'm assuming Dolly. Dolly, but also he's not country, but he was, if I could like go back in time and go to an Elvis Presley show and just witness him.
Starting point is 00:59:04 Yep, yeah. And his heyday, like at a club. Yeah. And when they like, Elvis, look. the building. That would be like who had one perform with. That's amazing. Okay, last question. What's next for Raylan? What's next? Well, I'm touring this summer with Luke.
Starting point is 00:59:18 A lot of great new music. I am really excited about this season of music. I'm releasing a song. It's called Come on Cowboy. But this song is like fun, dancey, you know, the dance TikTok thing. And it was funny. We were talking about Luke earlier. It's like it's going to be some people's vibe and it's going to be not.
Starting point is 00:59:35 I don't care. I just love it because it's fun. And I think I'm always going to have, you know, songs like Love Triangle and God May Girls, but there's also some wild cards I'm going to throw in there. Love Triangle makes me. Oh, I love that song. Right. I mean, but Come on Cowboys kind of fun and wild.
Starting point is 00:59:50 And then we have some really great, you know, fun. I call them Barn Burners, like, you know, the songs that make you just run. Yeah. But I'm really excited about this next season of music and cool partnerships coming down the way. And, you know, I'm kind of just excited. I know like I'm positively optimistic in so many ways, but I'm really excited to also see how the rest in my ear fills in. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Because I feel like when I don't really have a plan, that's when it all kind of comes together. And I have my touring stuff and my music plan. And then I'm also excited to see what other things happen. Yeah. So maybe I'll be invited to be on Dancing with the Stars. I don't know. You will.
Starting point is 01:00:29 I'm putting it out there. It's going to happen. You'll get yourself one of those. I'm going to get one. Yeah. Just to prove my dad wrong. Yeah. You know.
Starting point is 01:00:37 He goes, okay. Well, thank you so much for coming on the pod. This was so fun. It's a blast. You're such a little cute polypocket with like the best energy. Thank you. Yeah. Don't you think?
Starting point is 01:00:48 Little polypocket. And obviously raylan.com, but social media. Yes. On Instagram, it's Raylan official. Twitter or X, wherever the hell it's called now. Raylan. Yeah. And yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:00 I love it. I can't wait to hear the new music. And I'm going to come to Michigan. Come to Michigan. We'll be there too next. I love it. Thank you so much. Of course.
