Your session is now starting.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Today's guest has been nominated for five Grammys, Not a Big Deal, and is the youngest solo male artist to top billboards, Hot Country Songs chart in over 40 years, again, NBD. He's a global heartthrob is what I have written now. Oh, wow. A multi-genre superstar and just released the Hot New Single Heartbreak. Please welcome Hunter Hayes. Hey.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Hi. I'm clapping for you. Studio audience. Yeah, everyone out there is clapping too. I guarantee you, but we just can't hear them. A silent booth. But they are partying in that room. I know.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I'm looking out there, and everybody's got a glass of scotch in their hands. They went through an entire bottle of scotch. I'm not mad. Really not mad at all. That's so funny. I mean, every podcast that I do, my podcast is called Off the Vine. I drink wine. Every time I'm like, even if it's nine in the morning, I'm like, well, it's part of my job.
Starting point is 00:01:46 You know, like some people don't want to go to work on Monday morning. Sometimes, you know, I just got to really battle and drink wine for my job. Tough gig. It's a really tough gig. So today's a little different for me. at least it's almost five and uh you know you you are making me step outside of my box and we're going scotch today yeah well japanese whiskey right which apparently okay so if it's so it has to be from scotland to be considered scotch are you a big scotch guy are you knowledgeable in the
Starting point is 00:02:13 scotch world a bit okay so teach me a little lesson well i just i hate being that guy you know be that guy um well it's cool to know shit about scotch it's all whiskey okay um it's all it's typically labeled by region. Okay. And there's some name for Japanese whiskey. Like, there's a specific classification for it. But essentially, Scotch whiskey has to be made in Scotland, essentially. There's a lot more to it than that. Like, there's certain ingredients like Kentucky bourbon. It can only be called bourbon if the water sources from Kentucky, certain percentage is actually corn, like a lot of those kind of things. Scotch slash Irish whiskey are very different things, even though they're really close in region.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Anyway, I've officially lost everybody listening. I'm super into this, actually. You haven't lost me, and that's what's important. To me, like, if I was going to give someone whiskey for the first time, who was a big wine person, I would find out what kind of white wine they like and start working from there. To me, going from white wine to a Japanese whiskey, on the money. Aces.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Easy to do because it's, it's like. The finish is not heavy. It's not spicy. To me, it's very, it's almost floral. That's what I, floral. Floral. That's the word I was going to use. I'm not even joking. I know I sound like I'm making, I'm serious.
Starting point is 00:03:36 It's a very well-rounded flavor palette. Any Japanese whiskey, you just can't go wrong. Can I tell you what kind of white wine I like? And then you can tell me what kind of whatever I would like. Sure. Okay. I really like a dry pino grigio. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Little hint of citrus. Well, then you're probably, yeah. Okay. Well, then there's actually, there's a really fantastic, well, rye bourbon is more caramel, more sweet. Yes. And typically sweeter in general. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:06 But there's actually one that I had that off the top of my head, well, honestly, I would just go to Japanese whiskey anyway, but there is one called Mastersons, is it? And it's really, it's like the same color of this, which is just really looks like almost like a white wine. Yeah, it does. Which is hilarious. And it almost tastes as light, too. You can just taste a little bit more alcohol.
Starting point is 00:04:26 So did I do good with the one I picked out for you? This is one of my favorites because it's so, it's not like, it's not like you're paying a fortune for a bottle of whiskey. Damn, you know how much of whiskey. No, no, no, but what I've actually gone to that many times is because it's such an affordable, like, sippable whiskey. It's really good. You don't really get the two in the same bottle typically. And now you go neat, right? You get no ice?
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yeah. Am I like kind of a wimp for putting ice? of mine? No, it's smart. It actually opens it up. Oh, yeah, totally. It opens it up. That's why I did it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let it breathe, you know? Exactly. Yeah. But sometimes I like, I like, sometimes before I want to sound raspy, we were just talking about this before we went on the podcast, but everyone that listens knows I love
Starting point is 00:05:07 the sound of my own voice. And to me, I, sometimes I'm like, ooh, I should drink like scotch or something and smoke a couple cigarettes before my next, well, okay, no, I would never smoke cigarettes. But, you know, just because I'm like, I want a raspy voice. Well, you gave me a really weird look when I said. Yeah, well, no. I was like, oh, yeah, just kidding. No, no, I wouldn't do that. That's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:05:28 But I just feel like it gives you that good raspy voice, you know? Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I've never smoked cigarettes. Cigars actually make me less raspy, ironically. What, interesting. Yeah, it's a really weird thing that happens. I actually like singing after a cigar.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Oh, because it clears it up. It kind of does, yeah. Interesting. I was just smoking cigars. I don't know who the hell I think I am. sometimes, but I was in this presidential suite hotel in Boston, just standing on the balcony, drinking Japanese whiskey, and smoking a cigar playing Monopoly. Oh, you.
Starting point is 00:06:05 I was living. Yeah. You're living my best life there. It was a high point in my, I peaked in that moment. I was like, you know what, I'm pretty cool. Yeah. I felt cool. Nobody needed to see it.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I didn't even document it on Instagram stories. So, like, you know, I didn't need anyone. to like reassure me that I was cool. You just knew you were cool. Yeah, I was present in that moment of being cool. You know, that's what everyone wants to achieve. Thank you. I'm very proud of myself.
Starting point is 00:06:30 And you'd think you'd have a bit of a raspy voice because you've been singing since, what, two? Yeah. You were two years old when you started getting into music. You know, some days it's singing. Some days it's not. Oh, like. It kind of depends.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Do you play like instruments and stuff too? Is that what you're saying? No, no, no. I'm just saying some days you can call it. Some days you just can't. Well, what else would you call it? yelling oh that's how okay i take voice lessons because i love singing and oh actually my voice coach used to back in the day work with you well janet kenyon yes yeah she told me to tell you hi
Starting point is 00:07:04 love her isn't she just what dreams are made of yeah she's such a beautiful energy i love her energy sometimes i'll sit there and i'll pay her for the hour to sing and we will not sing once we just talk and we laugh and i just adore her and she's very good is very good she's very perceptive yes she's she knows how to identify yeah um yeah she she can understand your voice uh quicker than most people can understand your personality yeah that's so true that's a good way to put it anyway she says hello uh so tell me more about growing up and singing and do you play all instruments too or do you just play one specifically no i mean i i like i'm a hack at a lot of things yeah you know because i grew up like at a time where it was like digital
Starting point is 00:07:45 recording so if i wanted to you know say i quote unquote played something i could literally borrow it record it for days on end and it's like yeah I played that right you know what I mean but it's not like it's not like I'm great you know and I don't care I just like making music and I like the search I like failing until I get it right it's a fun process wow that it's still my process that's a very uh I like your outlook on that because that is part of it so you got to enjoy it because there's no real option there no not really no if you expect to walk in the studio and get it in one pass and there's some things that happen that way and in fact Most magic happens that way, but the creative process of just, like, splattering paint is what I call it.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Yeah. And I'm a professional paint splatter. That's awesome. Is that on your business card? It should be, actually. That's your bio on Instagram? Yeah. Yeah, it should be.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Yeah, no, so I, but I kind of, my home is on guitar. Is it? Yeah. Quite predictably. I always want to learn guitar. I can play Wonderwall by Oasis. Is that who it is? Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Yeah. I can play one side. Yeah. And one song only. And you know what? I keep telling myself I'm going to learn. And I'll put on YouTube videos and I'm like, no. I just, I'm one of those people that I want to be good at something right away.
Starting point is 00:08:57 The people we were just talking about how you can't do that, that's me. And I just give up because I'm like, I want to be good right away. Have you done the piano thing? I did a little piano. Okay. Because that to me is like more fun. Really? When I write or like, I just, it's so funny.
Starting point is 00:09:11 So I bought my first house two years ago. Oh, congrats. Thank you. Yeah. Weird to say as a 27 year old. I didn't think that would be. be my timeline, but I did. And one of the first things I did, I was moving out of the studio that I was renting, and I realized that I was using the piano and the B3 organ every day. And so I
Starting point is 00:09:28 had to have those two things. Found an organ. It took like six months to get it. It went through Helen back, and I finally got it. It's beautiful. And I went shopping for pianos, and I found this adorable little upright that I was in love with. And this baby grant, long story short, It was kind of a couple shopping trip. I ended up selling the two pieces because they reminded me in my old relationship. I realized how much of an idiot I was. And I just found this adorably cute,
Starting point is 00:09:55 cheap baby grand piano to put back into the house upstairs. And it has been a game changer because I love just sitting at the piano. And just, I've written so many songs at piano that I don't even realize. That's so cool. When I'm searching for a lyric, I'll sit at a piano because I can do that. And your fingers know where the key.
Starting point is 00:10:14 are you know you kind of it's it's it's it's a thing where you can just imagine the key the cord like you your fingers you don't even know what your fingers are doing but they do right muscle memory right it's just that it's like running or whatever i think that way about tap dancing i grew up tap dancing and my tap dance class would run into my ballet class and i took so many different dance classes that i could only do 15 minutes a tap and for some reason it's just in my blood and i would be on stage doing like a competitive number and I'd be like I don't know what the hell's going on but my feet were going and they knew what they were doing and in my head I'm like thinking about what dance I'm doing next on stage but my feet just knew so I'm assuming it's the same it's funny how that how easy
Starting point is 00:10:51 it becomes after a long time yeah I totally um with you so yeah I feel like piano is such a great like you know you don't it's just it's an instant satisfaction instrument that's to me that would be in my top three things of like if I could pick three things in life that to be good at piano would definitely be one. Okay. Because to me, oh, you know, I'm just going to sit at the piano and do a little ditty and write music. Like, that's pretty gangster. Your career has been pretty gangster if you think about it. 27 years old, five Grammy nominations. You own a house. You're like going on tour, you're going to Europe. You perform for Bill Clinton when you were seven years old. Like what? Do you even remember that? Barely. Yeah. Were you like, did you know how big of a deal it was in that moment?
Starting point is 00:11:35 I didn't appreciate it. I knew how big of a deal it was. Right. But you're seven, so at the same time, you know, can I go play? Yeah, totally. I just wanted to make noise. Yeah. I got a tour of the, you know, like a private tour of the White House at the time. And I think then I knew that it was a big deal. Like that's I had been told that.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Right. But now looking back, it's like what I wouldn't give to study that world and those people around that individual and how, you know what I mean? And just like, and really take in everybody's personalities and all the inner goings on of. I just, it fascinates me. Well, what were you doing? Like, how did you even get into that? Like, how did you get to perform for Bill Clinton? Like, is that?
Starting point is 00:12:15 I have no idea. Yeah. I think there was a guy from, like, close to my hometown that had seen, that had brought us in for a show, like a... Where are you from again? Louisiana. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And, yeah, and, like, I have no idea how we got that game.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Well, that's, you probably should figure that out. That's, like, a cool story. You get me. I don't really know how I perform for Bill Clinton. This happened. There should be a backstory there. There should be. There should be.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I agree with you. I should know my stuff. Get back to me on that one, eh? I'll work on it. But that's pretty like, you're 27, right? Yeah, that's, I mean, that's wild to me. I'm 33. I just bought my first house two days ago.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Oh, my God. Congrats. Are you, like, are you, like, are you clear of all the, like, house buying BS that you have to go through? Technically, I bought it with somebody a couple years ago, but I just. bought it out myself two days ago. Good for you. I feel very proud of myself. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:13:12 but I bet that's a good feeling just in general. It's a great feeling. Yeah. I mean, it's a great feeling. I'm going to do a little like sageing now. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:13:21 Get rid of the bad juju. Uh-huh. Same. Yeah. Did you do that? My place has needed some cleansing recently. Yeah? I've had some friends call me when they were there.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Like watching, my dogs are just visiting and leaving and they're like, dude, you need to be aware of like some weird shit. Bad energy in there? What? Like what? I don't know because I've never experienced it. The place has been nothing but calm and peaceful for me. What kind of energy?
Starting point is 00:13:46 Like ghosts? I've heard some crazy stories. Okay. And I don't believe any of them. Well, I mean, maybe you should, we should have a saging party. I mean, we have cleansed the place. Scotch and Sage. Scotch and Sage is a great band name.
Starting point is 00:14:01 That is, don't steal it. That's my new band name. That's my podcast. Scotch and Sage, dude. Yes. That is a good. And it could be like about cleansing energy while you drink scotch. Damn it, that's good.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Somebody's going to steal this. Yeah. You got to get on it before this air. We got to start management. Yeah. Write that one down. Can we call that? Yeah, write that one down.
Starting point is 00:14:18 They're all just partying in there. Yeah, they're not even listening to us. They're doing a mixtape by now. They're just like rocking. We're going to come out and be like, what just happened? You guys are done? Yeah. They'll have a song to perform for us by the end of it.
Starting point is 00:14:30 That's a, yeah, Scotch and stage. It sounds like a store. It also sounds like a store fun. I was about to say, it sounds like a brick and mortar, like, storefront. That's so funny. And a great Instagram handle. Hang on. Yeah, make sure that's not taken because we got to, then somebody needs to, like, pay you for the rights if you get it now.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You got to check on that. I'm really curious, actually. We're smart. Hang on. Yeah, we are. I'll take this opportunity to sit my sketch. Let's look it up. There's a hashtag.
Starting point is 00:14:57 I don't think there's people. There's no accounts found. But wait, why is there a hashtag? What's on the hashtag? One post. So somebody just put Scotch and Sage. Somebody's just high. And I have a feeling it's probably like somebody's name is Sage or something.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, I'm on it. Okay, yeah. I'm on it. You do that? Will you be my first guest? Yes, I have to. Seems right.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I'll be your only guest and you just shut the podcast down. Yeah, just own the name. Just a one-time only kind of thing. All right, so now that my live show, spring break tour is kicking off, I am on the road again. As if I ever stopped. The good news, my trusty Hotel Tonight app, has me covered. I know you guys know this. I've used the app. I've stayed at a few hotels. Trendy, cute, comfortable. Love it.

You can use it whether you like to plan ahead or play things by ear like myself. Hotel Today is really perfect for spontaneous weekend getaways, three-day weekends, staycations, road trips, business trips. So start getting really great deals at great hotels and go to Hotel Tonight.com or download the app now. I'm just looking through all these, like, facts about you. You just feel so proud of yourself? No, it's weird. Oh, you don't. Well, I do. I am. I'm proud. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:57 But it's hard to, I always say this, like, when people compliment you, it's hard to, like, like, on Twitter. I always say that when people are like, oh, my gosh, you're so funny and you're so this. I, like, feel weird repeat or retweeting it and saying thank you or something because that's weird to me. But if somebody chirps me and is like, you look ugly today, I'm like, well, I retweet it and I'm like, you look, you look ugly. It's hard to accept compliments or, like, feel, talk about yourself in that, in that manner. but you should be very proud of yourself you know what i'm proud of um and and through this process i'm becoming more aware of this um what i'm proud of is that all the things that i believe to be true have been proven true and that is good and bad good okay mostly good um and and and just
Starting point is 00:17:46 in the belief in oneself and the dedication to one's true purpose yields positive results I definitely agree with that. Did you see Lady Gaga's speech when she won? Yes. And she was saying it's not about like rejection and all that. It's about being brave and keeping on going. Is that what you're saying? Totally.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Well, just, you know, like the more I do things that I don't think anybody's going to care about and they're just self-serving creatively, the more I connect with people. Who knew? Absolutely. You know? And I love that. And I love that everything in my career so far has proven that. to me. And the times when I've not stayed true to that are the only times that I've been
Starting point is 00:18:25 disappointed by my career. You know what? That's so fair and that's, I think people should really think about that because I believe in the same things. And sometimes I just have moments where I'm proud of myself because the reason I've got to where I am and I've got this amazing audience of listeners that listen to podcasts is all just from being who I am, like being super true to myself, even if that means like I have shitty days or I embarrass myself or I fail or I go through things publicly, like, as long as I'm being authentic, I've found that that is how I've gotten my success. And I see so many people in my world of reality TV try and be something they're not, and it
Starting point is 00:19:04 doesn't work for them ever. So if you continue, and that's really important that you know that, like, you probably learned so much from being in the career, in your industry, such a long time, but do you know that, I mean, you have the best years to come, too. 27. I talk about this every podcast. People are probably sick of hearing me say it. But your frontal lobe is going to develop this year. It is. And that's your decision-making part of your brain. Interesting. Yeah. So you'll get even better, my friend. Oh, man, I'm excited about being able to make decisions.
Starting point is 00:19:35 You'll just make better decisions. I've been incapable of making any decisions up until now, so anything's an improvement. Well, when's your birthday? September 9. I'm like, what month are we even in right now? February oh no it'll be March when this airs okay and then you'll be 28 in September okay well do you notice any difference in yourself being 27 yeah yeah really oh yeah you're not humoring me what's that you're not just humoring me no no no I have I really have it's it's really bizarre I don't know what switch flipped now do you think maybe it's something to
Starting point is 00:20:07 because you went through a breakup that was rough so did I um do you feel like you just learn so much through that because I do. I felt like I learned so much through a relationship and through a breakup. I have to be totally honest. And when I say honest, I mean, like, my therapist works upstairs. So I've been in this building many times, but it wasn't that bad. It could have been worse. Okay. And I've had worse since. Short-term things that just completely blew up in my face. And I don't know, I'm an optimistic guy. I believe that we're all looking for our future better half. Maybe I'm wrong. And, you know, everybody's looking for some of different right right i know that but um i don't know i like to i like to give people the benefit of the doubt but i my experience wasn't bad but it was several things it was that and it was like two other
Starting point is 00:20:55 things um just a lot of parts of my life that i was meant to i was i was being led to let go of those things and i could i didn't know how to and they all kind of had to let go of me instead oh that's beautiful well thank you but i i don't know that i had the strength to actually depart from those things because they were comforts they were safety zones i think a lot of people can relate to that yeah and it's so hard and it's so scary because it uh it was all familiar things and it was the only familiar things i had left right because everything was unfamiliar right and i had to launch into an entirely reset uh new page where um yeah nothing i hadn't seen any of that new world before and did you do you mean in relationships yeah relationships business relationships
Starting point is 00:21:48 um friendships i thought i had that i actually really didn't that's always a tough one for me the friendship ones to let go of because i had one where i just i thought she was going to be one of my best friends in nashville i had such a close relationship with her and i'm i'm used to surrounding myself with very loyal people and i grew up in a very small town and just once i entered this like reality TV world and and got out of it, I found myself being surrounded with a lot of people that didn't have my best interests. And that didn't make sense to me because I trusted everybody and I just didn't know that was out there. So I got so hurt by a girl. I was like, well, you know, I've been heartbroken by guys before. But to be heartbroken over a friendship,
Starting point is 00:22:28 like, it really hurt me. Yeah. Yeah. Well, they hold a lot of weight. Yeah. You know, and as they should. And, yeah, I wrote about that particular topic. on this album in a song called Someone Will, not plugging. I'm just simply stating, I remember sitting... You should plug. In the car. I'll do that later. But I do remember sitting in the car, realizing that a lot of these things were kind of like
Starting point is 00:22:53 losing interest in me and not loving me for who I was. And my biggest thing is as is. You know, you should be good enough as is. And if you're not, then people around you just don't need you. And it's time for just a shift. and um or not not need you but they don't see you yeah truly right and you deserve people who will see you and love you and lift you up and because you will do the same for them i believe and i had to kind of face that it was these things were coming to a close and i just said uh i think
Starting point is 00:23:24 my my realization and my song title that i came up with that day was well yeah but if they don't then someone will and i firmly believe that and uh that was that was the thing that i that I'm most aware of now, it's like, if this doesn't make sense, it's okay. Like, there's no hard feelings, but I need, I need to move on. Right. I'm missing out on something that is good for me. Right. Oh, that's a really good way to look at things. That's so good that I'm like, is that my next tattoo? And then when people ask, I can plug your album. There you go. Win, win for all of us. But I do really like that. I'm going to take that away from this podcast with me. Yeah. I'm going to recycle it and I'll give you all the credit because I really
Starting point is 00:24:07 like that. Are you dating anyone right now? Yes. Oh. You gave me shifty eyes. Is this like public knowledge or breaking news? It's not breaking news. Just kidding. I take that. I'm just very, no, I'm just very cautious about how I talk about it. Of course. Well, and don't, I'll just feed you more scotch until you didn't. No, I'm just kidding. You don't need to tell me anything. But I would understand that because you are in, you know, the public eye and people tend to, I don't know, feel like they're so, well, people are invested, obviously, in your happiness and your relationships and what you do. And I'm sure a lot of your music reflects your relationships and what you're going through in life. So they do feel like they're part of it. But it's a weird thing to navigate how much you share. And yeah, it is weird. The weirdest thing is like feeling like it's a secret. And for a long time, I kept everything as a total secret. Yeah. And that's not because I was ashamed or I didn't want people to know. I just. literally wanted to protect whatever that was. Yeah, that makes sense. Whether it was good or bad for me, I couldn't have the outside world acting on it,
Starting point is 00:25:11 you know? And I just, but I always felt bad about that because, you know, I didn't want to hide the people that I cared about. And so it finally opened up and kind of got better at that. And now I think I've kind of leaned back into my little hermit shell of, I'm going to try to keep protecting the people that I care about. Well, yeah, because it's not like you're ashamed. You're protective.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Yeah, exactly. And those are two very different things. I hope, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think so. I'm giving you all the positive vibes. I love it.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Thank you. And your new song, Heartbreak. What was the inspiration behind that? But I'm not going to, obviously, a heartbreak. But, like, is it there, like, tell me the story behind that one. So that was, I think I, I, I entered that in. Every title that I have is, like, on the notes app in my phone. At least if it comes from me, if it comes from, obviously, the room.
Starting point is 00:26:02 the co-writers, like, that happens a lot as well, and you connect and you, whatever. But I had this thing, I just, it was another instance of, man, is this not working? And I typed the title in, well, that's a good way to look at it, Hunter. The positive spin on it is, well, that would be one more breakup closer to the right thing for you. Yes. And so it's kind of like, you know, not seeing it as a game, but sort of kind of seeing it in a positive light. and I think one heartbreak closer was like a thing. I also had this other song that I started journaling on
Starting point is 00:26:39 when I went on a trip by myself at the beginning of last year, which I didn't used to do a lot of, and now I obviously do a lot of. And I started journaling like two pages of just lyrics that don't make any sense to my future better half. Wait, you're going to make me cry. Go on. Well, just I needed to look forward to that person
Starting point is 00:26:57 because, number one, I really, I was longing for that. that team that teammate that lifelong life partner you know and I also just really wanted to look forward to that and knew that I was I was being shaped for that person you know and that's so romantic though if it was it was nice to think about this stranger in my mind and write to this person and just the mystery of it I don't because then one day it all makes sense you'll be like this is why and you'll be so grateful you have all that written down yeah and I don't have a checklist of like the person. Oh, I do.
Starting point is 00:27:31 It's just like, it's what, do you? Yeah. Well, and I respect that. I don't know that I'm, I don't trust myself with that. Because I feel like I'm going to miss something really beautiful.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Okay, I shouldn't say I just have a specific checklist. No, no, because after my last breakup, I was like, okay, well,
Starting point is 00:27:47 the next person I date, I told myself he wasn't going to be on reality television. He wasn't going to have Instagram. Well, guess what? I'm dating a guy who's from the exact same show as me who has Instagram. Instagram and is all over it
Starting point is 00:28:01 But you know He checks off so many other things That those don't matter So I mean I have a checklist But I'm not like Okay he has to have this He has to have this It sounds like more of an awareness
Starting point is 00:28:10 Of what's good for you Thank you I have a list of things that are good for me Yeah you know Maybe I put a checkmark next to them Maybe I don't I don't know Yeah So that's
Starting point is 00:28:20 Call it what you want But that's really cool That's I love that you do that So it started there And I just I brought it into Cordy Toggs and Simon And I just was obsessed with writing this song to this person and just saying, you know, I've been through a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:28:34 And at the time, the catalyst for the song was, I just finished this really short relationship that ended really badly for no reason. Yeah. I got a lot of flack for literally nothing. And I was, I just felt so misunderstood. And I was like, wait a minute. Like, I'm honestly trying to make everybody happy. And I don't really feel like I deserve any of the heat I'm getting right now. And that was one of the things.
Starting point is 00:28:58 was the song. I was going to explain myself. That's why the pre-course says it's not a game I'm playing and it's not a thrill I'm chasing. It's a space that I'm saving. And that's, that was literally what I, my catalyst that day was that, those lines.
Starting point is 00:29:13 This is what I really felt like I needed to explain myself. Which is sad. I shouldn't have to explain myself. I understand it though, but it can also, it's a nice way for you to express yourself through music as well and be able to help people understand. Totally.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Yeah. That's, I mean. And it was a nice song. The other mean songs have been written about me, so I figured I would at least have a nice song. There you go. I feel like if it was me, I would just want to write like a hate rap. Good to know.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Good to know. World, take note. What's wrong? Why am I like this? When people piss me off, I just want to write a hate rap. You're over there writing, like, ballads and singing to the people, singing them to help you not be so misunderstood. And I'm like, bitch.
Starting point is 00:29:58 rapping you're allowed oh gosh i feel like uh i feel like we need to get into confessions okay um mine's weird it's not necessarily embarrassing i've told a lot of embarrassing stories on on my podcast i feel like everyone in that listens to me knows my life uh so this one's just actually so funny because it happened just before i came here okay so i went because they were like yeah he likes scotch i'm like that's awesome i'm gonna go pick up a ball of scotch before i come to the podcast so i went to this liquor store and this man was which one did you go to um john what was it again village wines oh yeah yeah village wines and the guy was like mind blown that i was into scotch like he was like that's so cool like and he was like trying to get me to work
Starting point is 00:30:51 there and so he was really trying to recruit me to like be something somebody that sells whiskey to people that come into the store and I was like well would you pay me in whiskey or in scotch and he was like yeah we can work something out and he was serious and then I he's like talking to me about this other Japanese gin he's like do you like gin? I'm like yeah and I'm standing in the middle of this liquor store people are you know buying their booze and he's like well do you want to try it and he goes oh we ran out of cups and he hands me this bottle gin that's like got a lot out of it open bottle and I'm like well can I just swig it out of the bottle and he was like sure so I just stood in the middle of liquor store and took a little swig of Japanese gin. Wow. Well, he was trying to recruit me to work there. Jeez. Yeah. That's impressive.
Starting point is 00:31:35 That's kind of a funny story. As a germaphobe? Oh, I'm not a germaphobe. I respect you for that. Do you hate that I walked out there and just hugged you with my barbecue chip fingers? No. No, that's not an issue for me. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Yeah, I would not drink after anybody. I mean, I didn't even hesitate, which scares me. It worries me, honestly. As it should. And it kind of did after I thought about it. I'm like, that was weird, Caitlin. Like, there's a line. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Yeah, I crossed it. Well, it's right on the edge. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I danced on it. I flirted with the line, whatever. But I don't know what about it. Something just came over me.
Starting point is 00:32:09 I was like, really want to try that gin. And I just, you know, I went for it. And now I'm like. I respect your bravery. And if something, so I just, if I just fall over here in the next five minutes, blame Todd over at, what is it? Village wine. Village wines. I thought they closed.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Well, they reopened. They reopened. Huh. Interesting. Yeah. And I'm on the list for Hibicki Japanese whiskey. Oh, man. So go get yourself on the list. He'll call you when it comes in.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Good to know. Or I'll just, you know what? When it comes in, I'll get you an extra bottle and I'll send it to you. Awesome. Yeah, that's a better deal. Starting point is 00:34:12 with uh confessing you can tell me like five if you want yeah yeah yeah i'll listen to your confessions all day i'll see i'll see what you're doing i will watch them away with my Whiskey. Confessions. Well, that wasn't really a confession. I know. Confession to like a germaphobe. Like, to me, that's a sin.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Oh, okay. Well, okay, here's my confession to you then. I didn't wash my hands after I just peed upstairs. Okay. That's gross. I'm just kidding. I just did it to see your reaction. Wow.
Starting point is 00:34:40 What did the rest of the room do when you just said that? Well, my best friend who's out there went, yeah. Caitlin, everybody. Completely unshaken by that comment. Yeah, but I saw. A few looks have discussed out there. Yeah. So sometimes I do things for reactions, and it's called shock value.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Right. That was one. True artist. Yeah. I ran with your comment about being a germophobe. I was like, what could I say? How far could I take it? And I should have committed to it because that would have been a good confession for you, but I can't lie to you.
Starting point is 00:35:10 Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I did wash my hands. Um, I mean, confessions. I've got plenty to confess. Okay. Think of the worst one.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Worst one? A lot of them has to do with what? Scotch. No question. Of course. I've never been led wrong by anything else. Yeah. Not, you know, not smoking, not anything else.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Scotch leads me astray. And yet here we are. And yet here we are. Honestly, and it's what gave me one shot. I've told the story, though, about that night, so I can't confess that. although I literally just barely I don't remember getting home but I Scotch will do that too
Starting point is 00:35:54 it does that yeah but you like have the strength of freaking like it's called the silent thunder like it's like it's like it's not no I just made that I didn't know that it's not wow okay I'm gonna go with it I don't know it just sometimes it sneaks up on you like I could have a few and then also I'd be like wait what happened but I'm like fine everyone's like you were drunk I'm like
Starting point is 00:36:14 I guess so I don't know I think I am. Yeah. Yeah. That is, it is the tough part. I mean, last, okay, well, we're going back to C to C. And, uh, and, and, well, explain to people what that is. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:27 I can't believe I'm saying this. So, uh, these are my favorite confessions. People are like, I can't believe I'm saying this. We're going back to C to C and, uh, we're going back to C to C, which is country to country. It's a massive country festival that takes place in three cities, now four in, in, uh, UK. we're doing the first one in Berlin. That's amazing. And we're starting there.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Congrats, by the way. That's awesome. Thank you. Thank you. Of course, not only are we having this conversation, but now my buddy's videoing this conversation so that he has got proof of whatever I'm about to confess. You were there.
Starting point is 00:36:59 You know what? Content creator over there. So it was actually his first night. Let me just point that out. Okay. On a bus with us. Okay. And we started a C to C in Glasgow.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Well, obviously, Scotch, like Scottish Whiskey, home of. You have to. That's the place. Now, granted, this was Friday night. We have three shows, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Okay. I mean, I was up until at least two, three o'clock in the morning, and I don't remember anything past that.
Starting point is 00:37:26 I know that there was a political conversation that happened in the front lounge. Oh, boy. But what I know, and what I'm embarrassed about what I'm confessing to is I don't remember going to bed. Oh. I know it doesn't sound like much. There's more to the story I'm not going to tell you. What? But I just, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:42 But I've had a few of those nights on the bus, because it's a safe space. You're with your buddies. just going to say but that's such a safe you're on the bus that's such a safe space i've i've told a very embarrassing confession on this podcast before and i will never name the name of the band but when i was like 22 i was on a bus just please forgive me and drinking scotch watching like anchorman with this band and i fell asleep on this like table not table sorry like the couch around the little table there yeah and i was in vancouver british columbia at the time and i woke up in calgary Alberta
Starting point is 00:38:15 And that's just You know that's That's way worse than just forgetting What happened I woke up in another city With a band I didn't do anything wrong Except in the fact that I missed work
Starting point is 00:38:28 I know them and I work with them Okay That's fair That's fair Yeah I mean I don't know Confessions I mean Yeah
Starting point is 00:38:38 I've just Yeah I feel like you're holding back on me here. Oh, I totally am. Well, you can't. There's no question. You, okay, here's a fair deal. Okay. You can confess something to me that you're really on the fence about right now. And afterwards, if you tell me you don't want that in there, I edit it out and I would never do you wrong. I mean, or don't. I have fan questions, if you want to go there. Well, let's go there and we'll go back to this. Okay, that's a good idea. Okay. So Twitter loves you, obviously. And I put out actually not even
Starting point is 00:39:11 that long ago. I was like, oh, crap, I forgot to say, like, he's coming on my podcast. Anybody has questions for Hunter. So, oh, Lord, one girl says she loves you. Courtney Joe says, please tell me you're drinking Ron Swanson's Scotch. What's that? Oh, Loggible in 18? Or 16? It's 16, right?
Starting point is 00:39:27 Lagable in 16, yeah. That's what that is? Ron. Yeah, he's loggible in on the rocks. And that's like really, um, PD is what they call it, right? Yes. That's smoky, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:39 Okay. Oh, never mind, I was reading the wrong, wrong tweet. that's why I was like why is everyone just talking about scotch um okay
Starting point is 00:39:47 he's saying oh Cassie mchio prana he sang some song called night and day last summer when I saw him and loved it
Starting point is 00:39:57 when is it coming out I can't say when but it well it'll be out this year okay yeah that's very broad but I respect
Starting point is 00:40:07 it's part of the project it's part of the new album okay um Kara Gilula can he make an
Starting point is 00:40:14 acoustic version of wanted please sure we actually just did a revised version of wanted revisited we called that I think oh okay there's like a remix it's not acoustic at all but it's a totally different version of wanted so I don't know check it out see if that
Starting point is 00:40:29 if that does it for you if it's close enough you know I don't know Boyles her name is most awkward moment while filming a music video maybe this can come back to a confession without a doubt I went crazy having to kiss a total stranger
Starting point is 00:40:45 I like acting but when it comes to that that's just weird So was she like a hired actress? Well yeah obviously casted for the video or whatever Well some people bring in people they know Well I didn't know that was an option
Starting point is 00:40:59 You're like well I didn't know that So I'm sorry Yeah That was weird That was really weird Yeah I mean did you have scotch Actually I think somebody slipped Something into my coffee that day
Starting point is 00:41:12 Just to call me down. Yeah, I was of age, so. You were or weren't? I was. Oh, okay, okay. That's fair. I think a little bit of whiskey might have been slipped into my iced coffee, quote. Did it help?
Starting point is 00:41:24 I think, yeah. You're like, I don't remember, actually. Yeah. Watch the video. I have no recollection. It's a great video, though. Yeah. Corey wanted to know, hey, did you ever think wanted would get as big as it did?
Starting point is 00:41:36 If not, what song do you think would have been? Hmm. No, I had my money on. on Love Makes Me, off the first record. Okay. Totally different song. And I thought that was like the single. And we never put it out as a single.
Starting point is 00:41:51 And one, it just completely blew my mind. I mean, I thought one, it was too sappy. I thought it was too, like, yeah. People love savvy. Well, apparently. Yeah. And I love it too. So, yay, career.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yeah. I didn't think it would do as well. Yeah. But it did. It apparently. Killed it. Courtney Sue, who has, Who has been your favorite person to go on tour with?
Starting point is 00:42:16 Hmm. Lady Inabellum, no question. We had a blast on that tour. They're fun. They are fun, and just good people. Yeah, I got to, I did their top golf show. Yeah, and had a couple drinks with them after. They're funny.
Starting point is 00:42:36 And then I, this is also hilarious. I somehow got offered to DJ. a Bumble event that Lady Antebellum was hosting. Right. What's her name? I can't believe I'm blanking on her name. From Lady A. Hillary.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Hillary. God, I love her and I'm like, I'm just under pressure right now. Yes, she was hosting it too, and I was DJing. I don't DJ. I plugged a cord into a playlist. There you go. You know how it is. No, you don't.
Starting point is 00:43:02 It's that easy. But I was DJing. But yeah, they're just great, great people. Yeah, they are. Yeah. They really are. Okay. So that's who you'd want to tour with.
Starting point is 00:43:11 I loved, and what we're playing, our C to C to C shows with them. Oh, you are? Yeah. Oh, that's so exciting. I'm really excited about it. So how long are you gone for? You're going to Europe for, like... A month.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Oh, it's a month? Yeah. Are you so excited? I am excited. I'm so conflicted. I love being on the road, and this is what I live for. Yeah. This is the first time I think I've... Not the first time, obviously, but I think this is the most...
Starting point is 00:43:34 It's hit me that I'm going to be away from my home and my two little fur kids. Oh, God. Two little dogs. What kind of dogs do you have? I have a retired racing. Oh, amazing. So he's an, yeah, he's an old man. Wow.
Starting point is 00:43:45 And a little whip it. So miniature greyhound mixed with a beagle, and she's our little fearless protector at the house. She's the opposite of the lazy old man. Okay, wait, tell me their names. I'm obsessive. Cole is the old racer. Okay.
Starting point is 00:43:59 So old man Cole. Old man Cole. And then Ella, sweet Ella. Ella is very voistrous. It's hilarious. It's hilarious. She talks. Really?
Starting point is 00:44:08 Her faces are so, like, I think we watched. She's expressive. What do we watch the other night at Movie Monday? We do this Movie Monday thing in my house where friends come over and we just hang out and honestly the time before is my favorite part. But we watched some like animated movie. And what?
Starting point is 00:44:23 Incredibles too. And I remember afterwards thinking, oh my God, my dog is a Disney Pixar character. They should make a movie off of your dog. Yeah. I think she came from a movie. She's so expressive. I love that.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Had these like in crazy eyes, like her ears, her tail. Like, she's so expressive. Yeah. I've never seen a dog that expresses as much emotion as she does. Really? Yeah. God, I love dogs.
Starting point is 00:44:46 Don't you just want to know what she's thinking? Yeah. Yeah, I do. Every dog owner wants to know that. But that's like, that would be like my one superpower. If I could pick one superpower, I would pick to like be able to know
Starting point is 00:44:57 what dogs are thinking. I think sometimes that'd be great. Sometimes I don't want to know. Yeah, because what if they like hate you for a second? Honestly. Honestly, yeah, would crush me.
Starting point is 00:45:05 But they don't. They don't hate anybody. They don't hate anybody. You wouldn't be disappointed by any. We won't know. They would just, yeah, that's true. We're not meant to know. Fine then.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Way to crush my dreams, thanks. Katie Fawcett says, what's your guilty pleasure TV show? Ooh, I'm not guilty about this. It's Grand Tour. Own it. What is it? Grand Tour. And I need to go finish the episode.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I'm borrowing my buddy's Amazon Prime account. I don't know why. I've got one, but I'm borrowing yours. It's easier. He's logged in and whatever. I get that. My girlfriend, Brandy Cyrus, she logged into my, what was it? Oh, Hulu.
Starting point is 00:45:48 She logged in from hers. I use her Hulu account all the time. Mm-hmm. It's just easier. Yeah. Yeah. So I've got to go finish that. Grand Tour.
Starting point is 00:45:56 Why don't I know? It's the new version of Top Gear. It's a car show that I, well, you could say it's a car show, but it's not really a car show. It's just three. You into cars? A little. Do you have? Do you own cars?
Starting point is 00:46:08 Do you do the cars? I do, I have, yes, I have, yes. Oh, so you do the whole car thing. I'm a car guy. Can you tell me what you drive or is that? Yeah, it's not fancy. I have a little rangerover of Oak that I'm in love with. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:21 It's a little midnight blue, silver roof, all like this cool interior, whatever. And then I have my little mini-S from like a 2012 mini-S. Yeah. It's a standard. It was my first standard. I learned how to drive standard in that car. I love driving standard. I learned when I was in where I'm from you can learn how to drive on your 14 is that normal no no
Starting point is 00:46:45 and I learned how to drive on a standard because I thought it was so cool which I'm really grateful for now and I really really really want a baby blue Ford Bronco 67 oh that's yeah it's dope it's the most gangster thing ever I want it so badly really cool yeah well then yeah get one well I'm going to you I've been looking but you know what they're expensive yeah unreasonably expensive. Yeah, they are. Yeah. And I've never done the double clutch, which is hard because I'm just a little guy, you know. You got to have a lot of power. Yeah, I don't, I don't, yeah. Have you done the double clutch?
Starting point is 00:47:22 No, no. I tried once in a 50, I can't remember, I think it was a 56 Chevy. Okay. And I failed miserably because it's a lot. Yeah, I mean, just the standard thing was hard for me. I mean, I... It is hard. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:37 I had to do one of my dates on Bachelorette was I had to drive on the opposite side of the road in Ireland in a standard. So I'm like using my left hand. It was, I smoked like eight curbs, hit two bushes. It was, I don't know how they did that. I was like, they've got Gopros. I'm like, cool. Like, this is a lawsuit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Also, somebody could have warned me. No, no, there's no warning on that show. Okay. Oh, yeah, no. That's right. They want, they want you to be surprised and full of, fear. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:09 That's good TV, my friend. Yeah. I feel like I've called you my friend twice this podcast. I don't know if I've ever done that before. You know what? We're friends now. I'm going to play one game with you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Because I have it sitting here. Did you not notice this thing? I noticed it. What is that? It's a timer. Okay. I don't know why it does this. That's...
Starting point is 00:48:27 I don't get it, but it's a timer. Moderately offensive. Right. It's kind of like a shake weight. Yeah, a little bit. Well, the sound I meant, but... Oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Got it. This is where I wish. that my podcast had video because otherwise people are like what the hell is going on over there okay so you have five seconds okay it's the five second rule if you've ever watched ellen she does this on her show and you have to name three things in five seconds that I ask you okay okay like do you want an example uh to prep you or you got it I'm I'm just gonna dive in I mean it's pretty straightforward I'm gonna go I'm gonna go for it okay are you ready I'm trying to decide the funniest ones to ask you um okay name three things that you'd like to set on fire uh candles incense
Starting point is 00:49:16 and uh the oh you're doing so good shit because i was gonna be like uh like something some like a person i don't like so that's that's dark i was gonna say my you know i would have finished with my old christmas trees probably okay because they smell good when you burn them burn your old it's dangerous Well, just a little guy. I just kind of like, I had like five mini Christmas trees in my house. I never, I didn't really have a big one this year. Five, that's. Just a bunch of little mini Christmas trees.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Honestly, yeah, it's total. Five small Christmas trees. Yes. And you'd like to burn them. Cool. Moving on. Just one of them. It smells good.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Oh, yeah, just one. More reasonable. Okay. It does, it does smell good. I get where you put down. I'm picking up your punt down. Oh, God. That means you need to have a sip of scotch because you failed.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Well, shut them out. Can we get him a top up in here? Just a little splash. We're almost done. A little splash. Do you see how I'm doing that? Because we're going back to confession. I'm like, I just give a little splash there.
Starting point is 00:50:14 I'm very aware of what's happening. Thank you, man. I don't think I've ever been in a studio where this has happened. Thank you. Yeah, well, you're on off the vine, my friend. Caitlin, stop. Okay. Name three, sense that are a turn on.
Starting point is 00:50:31 Sense? Rose, lavender, peppermint. Wow. Oh, that was really good. Yeah. Yeah, nice. I'll drink for that one. I thought you were going to be like scotch. Lagovoolin.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Cigarettes and... Yeah. And shame. Wow, where am I going here? Red Bull. Okay. Next question. That's a little too risky. That's mean.
Starting point is 00:51:01 That's political. Wow. Okay. I love your pre-editing. Well, just so you know, I'm like, you know, I'm doing you a solid here by not putting you in this position. Thank you. Name three things that you shouldn't do over Skype or FaceTime. Wow. Wow.
Starting point is 00:51:24 I just wanted to drink. You're like, I had five, actually, not three, and I just wanted to drink. It's what, honestly, that list is long, in my opinion. Well, never trust a Wi-Fi network. Never trust the Wi-Fi network. I always think about that, like with even just my phone being on. I'm careful about what I say. Really?
Starting point is 00:51:42 And who I talk about. I just assume that every Skype or FaceTime session is being recorded and broadcast live somewhere. Wow. I should think more like that. It's a miserable way to live. Gosh, if people saw my FaceTimes with my mom, like we are two weird peas in a pod. and the stuff that we talk about or like
Starting point is 00:52:03 we're just we're nuts man we're nuts man never changed oh I won't I haven't in a long time so I don't plan on it now you know what in fact
Starting point is 00:52:12 I think I'm getting weirder because I'm coming into my own and I'm accepting my weirdness and that's just a beautiful thing man I can't wait to get there yeah well 27 I'm on the road you're in a very pivotal time right now
Starting point is 00:52:24 yeah frontal lobe will decide to be weirder and away you go come back after okay in a year we'll podcast again and we'll like discuss how my podcast oh right right right right yeah we'll save that one episode and we'll discuss your frontal lobe last question ready name three messy activities cleaning up the house mud driving uh wow dusting off the studio gear you're out of time i said it though i was starting to say it doesn't count it's not called the 22nd game okay good try though
Starting point is 00:53:00 Oh, that was shit. I respect your hustle. Smoking. Smoking cigars is a very messy activity. That's true. It really is. And you know what's the worst is when you're, like, biting on it for the whole time. And by the end, it's like all over your lips and it's peeling and it's just like...
Starting point is 00:53:15 Well, that's just a dry cigar. Oh, so I cheaped out. Well, maybe. I've gotten a couple of really bad cigars. Yeah. Where were we recently? Did I get one in L.A.? It was at the liquor store.
Starting point is 00:53:27 I got one out of the cabinet because I was like, man, how can you see? cigar night. Yeah. And I paid a fortune for it. Yeah. And it was the shittiest cigar I've ever had. I couldn't even light it. Like, it was so dry.
Starting point is 00:53:37 It just, like, caught flame, and I couldn't do anything with it. That's very unfortunate. Yeah, I feel really sorry for you. So I've resorted to smoking out of things. You know what? I know what I'm getting you for your birthday on September 9th. A good cigar and Hibicki Japanese whiskey. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:53:54 I will be in your good books forever. I'm going to solve all the world's problems. All of them. One bottle and cigar at a time. Within 30 minutes. Did you know that when this podcast comes out, it's National Let's Laugh Day? Oh, wow. Yeah, and I feel like we've shared a few laughs today.
Starting point is 00:54:08 Yeah, we have. And for that, I'm grateful. Same. Yeah, I'm glad to that. You know what? Cheers. Cheers. Cheers to laughing.
Starting point is 00:54:15 Cheers to National Let's Laugh Day. I mean, it's also National Sloppy Joe Day, but that would just be weird. Yeah, we could have made it a thing. No, we couldn't because. They have nice carpet here, the rug. Yeah, but I have misophonia. And, um... What?
Starting point is 00:54:29 Yeah. I can't stand the sound of people chewing or like How do you do this? Oh, this is fine. Voices are like soothing to me. Yeah, but when like somebody's on the mic drinking a bottle of water is the grossest thing in the world. I hate it.
Starting point is 00:54:44 Don't drink a bottle of water into the mic. It's the world. If you're close though, like on a dynamic, like when you're just in the, like I hate being in a vocal booth like sipping water. I have to walk out of the room. Yeah. It's the grossest sound of the world.
Starting point is 00:54:56 So you too have misophonia. Very relatable. You, my friend Are very relatable Well, it's weird, right? Well, now you know You are diagnosed, you're welcome How do you spell it?
Starting point is 00:55:10 Wow, great question I'm going to Google this right now Am I? Yes Like phone Right Has to do a sound That's my
Starting point is 00:55:20 I tried to sound so smart For a second I was like, you know me so Phonia or phobia? Phonia Phonia M-I-S-O-P-H-O-N-I-A. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:35 And there's a treatment for it. Am I boring you? No, no, no. You're yawning. No, I'm not yawning. Was that a yawn from yesterday? I've been up since way too early, and I was up way late last night. Me too.
Starting point is 00:55:48 It's rehearsaling. I'm just kidding. Wow. I'm just kidding. I like to call people. I got a drink out of that. Yeah, you do. Yeah, there's a, oh my gosh, there's a misophonia sound test.
Starting point is 00:56:00 We can figure out if you have got it. That's okay. Except this is going to... Sounds excruciating. Oh my gosh. If this is... Now I just feel like this is... Look at Misophonia Sound Test.
Starting point is 00:56:11 Get results now. Where is this leading me? We all want results now. You know what? I don't trust this. It keeps taking me to weird places. Yeah. No, we'll just...
Starting point is 00:56:19 You know what? You've got it. Sorry about your bad luck, but you've got it. Yeah, well. And so, okay, wait. I'm going to save this because it's national less laugh day, But first, tell everybody where they can find you on social media, your website, tour dates, all of the things.
Starting point is 00:56:35 Let the people know. At Hunter Hayes, H-U-N-T-E-R-H-A-Y-E-S. Yeah, as easy to remember as possible. That is. That's me, too. It's at Kate Lambrose, so I'm like, it's me. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Keep it simple. There's only 100-H-O-H-O-H-E-E different ways. Really? Yes. How would they spell it any other? H-A-Z-E, H-Y-S, H-E-E-E-O-S-E-E-E-E-I-S-E-E-E-E-S-C-S-E. Okay, I get it. It goes on.
Starting point is 00:57:00 The list goes on. That's the same thing with Caitlin. There's a million ways to spell that. Well, good luck in your upcoming tours and everything that you've got going on, and all of my positive vibes are going your way. We'll have a Scotch and Sage night to rid all the negative energy in our places, and maybe we'll document it for the peeps. Love it. Yeah, you don't want to do that, but you're like, nope, I'm totally in. Totally in.
Starting point is 00:57:24 See you tomorrow. Nope, I'm in Europe. Um, since it's national let's laugh day, I always end my podcast with a joke. Okay. You got to give me a good one. You big joke guy? Yeah, yeah. I got a, no, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Oh. But I got a really, really good, like, dad joke. I love dad jokes. It's actually a Boudreau and Tibado joke. So where I'm from, Louisiana, it's been 10 years since I've moved from Louisiana. Okay. And I've lost most of my accent until I get really excited. Then I can't.
Starting point is 00:57:55 Then I get it back. Like this whole podcast. You're just so excited. I've heard it the whole time. Totally. Yeah. But there's these two characters, Boudreau and Tibito. And so Boudreau and his wife were on a date and Tibito. So Budo and Cibodot had been lifelong buddies, right?
Starting point is 00:58:11 And they go through the ups and downs together. And, you know, there's probably a book somewhere. And anyway. So Boudreau and his wife go on a date. And Tibito just, you know, kind of accidentally third wheels. And they're just like, it's fine. He's been around forever. It's kind of like a friend's thing, you know.
Starting point is 00:58:27 Yeah. And so Thibito was asking, because he just met this girl, and he wants to impress her that he wants to take her to a nice restaurant. And he's like, man, y'all, y'all got a good thing. Like, he's like, you guys are so smart. Pick all these nice restaurants and you do these dates and stuff and happily married. He's like, honestly, I got a first date. I just want to make one good impression. That's all I care about.
Starting point is 00:58:50 And so, sorry, but I know that just came out. Speaking of which. How's your misophonia now? My apologies totally just ruined your joke. Go on. No, so she's going to leave the room now, which is good because I can finish it in a couple of takes. Yeah, there you go. So Bujo's like, man, you know, actually, Tibodeau, I'm glad you asked me tonight because I'm so close to remember. What's the, I can't think.
Starting point is 00:59:20 What's the name of that place? I can't think you so good. Don't tell me. Tivode, what's the name? And he leans over to Tibado to his left. His wife, too, she was right and leans over to him. What's the name of that flower? That flower?
Starting point is 00:59:32 Sun, sunflower? No, no, no, no. No, that's not it. Daisy? No. Lily? No. Rose?
Starting point is 00:59:40 Yes. Goes back to his wife. Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to two nights ago? That's the best I got. You know what? I respect that. A long delivery for a really shitty outcome. But you know what is important in joke telling is the delivery and how you tell it?
Starting point is 00:59:56 I don't even care if that was a. funny punchline. The way you just told, I'm not saying it wasn't, but the way you just told that joke. That's what you just said. It's okay. You know what? But I'm all, I'm giving you a little compliment sandwich where I'm saying, you know what? That was really good delivery. Punchline needed to work. Yeah. But you're a comedic timing and the way you told that joke. If given the right material, I think I could succeed. There you go. That's, uh. On the upside. Yes. You know what? That's, that's very fair. That's very fair. You would, you would deliver. If I, if I needed you to, you could. I could step, step, stuff.
Starting point is 01:00:27 of my game. Yeah. Anyways. Good luck. Congratulations. You are a gem in the roof and you made me laugh today, which, you know, usually I'm the funny one. So you know what?
