Off The Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe - The Home Edit: Clea & Joanna Spread BFF Energy

Episode Date: January 10, 2023

These two were long overdue to join the Vinos so today, KB, Clea, and Joanna are catching up on what has happened in the past 5 (!!) years since they were on the pod. It’s safe to say a lot... has gone down in the past half-decade; Clea has overcome cancer, the two have found more success than ever, and both women still know how to share a cringeworthy confession. Clea and Joanna share their intentions going into 2023, reveal whose house they want to organize and the weirdest items they’ve had to organize in the past, and give a behind the scenes on Nashville’s most beautiful friendship. The three peas on the pod definitely have a lot of Best Friend Energy, which is perfect since that’s the name of Clea & Joanna’s new pod, where they will be hanging out on the mic just like they are today. Plus, they’re answering all of your questions and sharing what it’s like working with the one and only Reese Witherspoon who recently acquired their company.  Thank you to our sponsors! So save the highlight reel for Instagram because when we're among Vino's, there's no filter. It's time to unwind. Here's your host, Caitlin Bristow. Welcome to Off the Vine Now. I have, I forgot to introduce myself. I mean, if I didn't do that, you wouldn't know who I was. I'm Caitlin Bristow and I have the two cutest best friends in the studio with me today. You may know them from the Netflix show. Get Organize. or maybe even from their new podcast, Best Friend Energy.
Starting point is 00:01:59 It is Clea and Joanna. I fell in love with these two when I first watched their show. They are organizing gurus and freaking hilarious best friends. So bringing them back on the podcast when I found out they started their own podcast was a no-brainer. So we talk all about organization tips for your space. We celebrate Clea being cancer-free after months of treatment. And we pretty much hang out as besties together. It's one of those podcasts where you're listening and you're like, wait, I thought I was
Starting point is 00:02:23 hanging out with them. And that's what we love. So enjoy. my podcast with Clea and Joanna, aka the Home Edit. We're just saying before we started recording that we can't believe it's been five years since we did a podcast together. I can't believe that. I really can't. I mean, I feel like I'm also only like 10 years old in my mind.
Starting point is 00:02:47 So it's like that was I was only five. I'm like, but I'm only 28. I know. I'm stuck at 28. Yeah. 29 maybe. Yeah. I feel that. But five years, so much happens in five years. I know. Also, Clea, I want to say congratulations on being cancer-free. I brought you two bottles of wine back there that you can have. I remember texting you when you were going through. And I was like, can I bring you wine. Can you have wine? And you were like, I got to sneak it from. Was it your mom? I was like, I was like, my mom staying with me. So my mom was literally, I'm not kidding you. She imposed so many rules. And it's wild to live with your mom at 40 years old. I can't imagine. She'll be like, eat one more bite for dinner.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Like, okay, you know, like, you just fall right back. Yeah, wasn't enough properly? Yeah. She'll be like one more bite for good luck. Did you brush your teeth before you went to bed? My mom still does that to me. It's crazy. She monitored, like, how much alcohol consumption was happening.
Starting point is 00:03:38 She monitored how, like, I was allowed to have one visitor a day and they could only stay for 59 minutes. She would, like, kick people out. Well, how lovely, though, that your mom cares so much and took care of you. She is the best. She is the best. She really is best. That sounds amazing.
Starting point is 00:03:50 She's the best. And I have to say, when. she left, I had like three weeks left of radiation. It was like right before Thanksgiving. And she would go home and visit my dad every like four to five weeks. Yeah. They live in California. And when she left, it was like, she packed up the guest room. She shipped a box of her stuff home. I was hysterically crying. And I was like, I know I should be happy because this signifies I'm done. Yes. But I was like, do I miss my mommy? I was like, what? Like I've reverted to. to like an actual child. Yes. Well, I mean, think about that. I'm really big on inner child work
Starting point is 00:04:27 right now. And I'm doing a whole week therapy in California to like do deep dive therapy for like a week of no phones, no work. Oh, I was about to ask if we could come and you, you lost me. Have you heard of onsite in Nashville? Of course. It's like that, but it's in California. It's called Hoffman. Yeah. Totally. No, I have friends who've done that. But there really is something like to say about like your inner child. or, you know, wanting or needing your mom or having that comfort there, especially, like, going through something so scary. And I love, like, I watched your journey, obviously, as we all did. And you were so positive. Were you always just, like, strong and positive through it? Or did you have hard days? Because watching your journey, I was so emotional because I was like,
Starting point is 00:05:11 gosh, you are a warrior. Well, that's really kind of good say. I have allowed myself, I would say, a good five cries, like a real, but like. I did that in the last three days and nothing. like going on like it's just it's a real shoulder uh sobbing kind of yeah you know it's like i i broke a few times but i think that the only way i was going to make it through is just forward yeah and it's like i just had to keep kind of marching yeah and you did yeah i did i love that i always thought i was such a delicate flower i really did like i don't like shops i'm not going on the amazing race dancing the stars too hard for me like i like they're just like i don't like getting my blood drawn. Do you feel different now? Are you like, I can do anything? Hmm. Well, I still
Starting point is 00:05:57 said I can't go on dancing with it. Yeah, you did just say that. Everything but that. Everything but that. But I, I definitely... You can do anything. There is nothing you can't do. I believe that, too. So when I got diagnosed, I didn't know I was going to have to have chemo and radiation. So I knew I was going to get a double mastectomy. And in surgery, they found cancer in my lymph nodes, which means it was throughout my body. So my treatment plan changed. from like six weeks of post-stop recovery to nine months of treatment. And that was one of the days I cried. Actually, not that day.
Starting point is 00:06:29 It was the day after. I was so high on dilaudid or whatever it's called that I did not understand what the surgeon was telling me. And I'm like, maybe like wait for me to be slightly sober. Yeah, no kidding. Were you giving my prognosis? I actually remember I had 10,000 text messages that day. John should have, my husband should have taken the phone for me because I was definitely
Starting point is 00:06:50 doing a lot of texts that would like the phone would fall on my face like I was like should not be texting yeah at one point I thought you know every now there's like an emoji update and like new emojis come out yeah I thought that every emoji it turned into a lion's face like I was really and then the next day I was like oh my god they didn't I was like wow you were like that's just the stage I was at which I shouldn't have been so I the surgery was supposed to be it's supposed to be maybe like four hours yeah and because it was so invasive it ended up being nine hours wow and so nine hours on the heaviest anesthesia. Wow. It'll make you think that they're a lion face. Well, yeah, now that adds up. My gosh, that's, I've been under once
Starting point is 00:07:28 and I told everybody it smelled like maple donuts in the room and that was the most Canadian thing I've ever said. Oh my God, it's amazing. But that was it. But I'm nine hours. That's intense.
Starting point is 00:07:37 It is very, very intense. You want to hear the craziest thing? Yeah. Okay, so I'm part of, I was like one of the first patients of this cancer clinic at Vanderbilt. Oh, wow. Like, it's like a team of doctors
Starting point is 00:07:48 where it's a surgeon and the oncologist and all. And so I guess, so my husband was in the waiting room for nine hours. Yeah. And he thought, again, it was going to be four hours. Wow. He gets a call from Vanderbilt. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And they said, Mr. Shear is this you? Your wife is in surgery. Are you able to speak? And he said, yes, of course. What, like, what is it? And they said, I think it's something that you want to talk about in person. So he goes, he's like in the cafeteria or whatever. So he goes into the waiting room.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Do you know this? Did I tell you this? I don't know. I don't think so. So he goes into the waiting room. and Ash White Like he thinks something has happened in surgery Like they have to deliver
Starting point is 00:08:25 I do know that They have to deliver in person news No what they wanted to tell him Was that like the director of the cancer center Was going to open up his office If he wanted to like use their couch I didn't know this I was like okay
Starting point is 00:08:37 We need to work on messaging Yeah delivery Yes delivery is everything And John was like Oh my like a relief But also don't ever do that to me again Let's talk about not doing that Context.
Starting point is 00:08:50 You know, your wife is in a four-hour surgery that's now nine and somebody needs to talk to you in person. Yeah. Yeah, no. They literally said I believe this, I think this conversation should be had in person. Why? I know. I don't know. Yeah, that is.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I had more questions when I was out of surgery, but I still, I'm going to circle back to that one. I have to find out who did that. Yeah, no kidding. I would like to have a conversation with them as well for you on your behalf. I know when this airs, it'll be like a little ways into January, but have you, do you like, of course, what you've been through in the last year? It might be different this year. Do you set resolutions? Do you have intentions? Do you have a word for the year? Or are you what kind of? Because I'm like a no resolution kind of gal. We're intentions, people. Me too. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you can't fail at an intention. No, and it's too much pressure. Way too much pressure. I hate the pressure. Hate it. But I have, okay, so everything in this past year, I was like, screw it, forget it. I'm going to eat what I want. I'm going to drink what I want with my mom. Like I would hide it. And I was like, I, it's a 2023 problem. Yeah. So now it's here. Right. Now it's a 20-23 problem. Now I'm living in the, I am, hi, it's me. I'm the problem. It's me.
Starting point is 00:09:55 And I have to like deal, like I need to get my diet back on track. I need to start exercising again. I hate exercise. I hate it. You like walking. You like walking. I know. I don't even have the motivation to do that. I know, but we can do that. That I can help with. Well, you can slowly ease it. You don't have to go head first into 2023. You know what I mean? You can dip your toes. That's right. You can just dabble with the walk. You can start with like around the block and go from there. Because I find like the last five days, I've been a wreck. I don't know why. It's the pressure. I think it's the pressure of the new year. It's a perfect storm. It's the pressure of the new year. It's I had just done all this paperwork. for my inner child work that had gone into some really deep things in my life. I'm like detoxing from drinking all holiday season.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Like it's just a lot of heavy stuff in the world. That's a lot at once. I definitely, along with eating and exercise, I drinking too much is probably on the list.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Absolutely. Someone who works for us, Lauren, she said today that she's doing damp January. Oh, I thought she said damn. No, damp. Oh, I like that.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Like a moist January. I thought it was damn. Like, oh, we're here, but like we're not going to make it. No, damp January because she's like, if I say dry, I'm not going to do it. I'm with her. So I'm, I don't even want to be damp. I have to be honest. But I, but I'm going to cut back.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Yeah. Okay. I'm, okay, here's where I'm at with drinking. I have a wine label. I fully enjoy drinking wine. I'm like, okay, maybe I don't need to get shit faced on like tequila shots and like go out and do all that. But I feel good when I have a glass. I love it with dinner.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I love pairing it with different foods. It's a joy in my life. And I'm not going to cut it out. So I am all for damp January. I am not going to cut it out either because honestly, what does it matter? I got cancer anyway. So it's like, you know what I mean? You do whatever gives you pleasure in life.
Starting point is 00:11:48 And so little things are just pure pleasure. Yes. Like there's not, I'm the same with you. I love champagne and wine. And I, it's just like, God, why would I take that out of my life? Yeah. Like I don't see a reason. Until someone tells me, until a doctor is like, no, I'm going with it.
Starting point is 00:12:06 And doctors say that a glass of wine is good for you. So we're just, you know. Not mine, but whatever. Apple a day. I just switch that for a little glass of wine. And I think it's fine. Well, I like that you do intentions. So did you say your intentions?
Starting point is 00:12:20 Do you have any intentions? Oh, my intentions? Well, I was trying. Again, I don't have resolutions either because it's just, I can't handle the pressure. Yeah. And the commitment stresses me out so much. I guess I told Clea, one of my intentions. is just to eat a little bit less sugar.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Because I'm like, I don't care about the drinking. Yeah. It doesn't, nothing for me. Yeah. I'm like, I don't care. I wish it did not. Can you imagine? No, I just like, I'm like, I need the morning.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I like to feel good in the morning. I need my energy. I don't know. None of it does anything for me except for I like port. But you're not going to drink a lot of port. Yeah, yeah. That's just not. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:50 But I love sugar. That's why you like port. Yeah, exactly. So I'm just trying to eat a little bit less dessert. See, but that's, I love that goal because you have to make. make goals approachable and like baby steps and little things to make big changes. And I'm all for that in the new year. I say absolutely not. Then you're setting up for failure. Yeah. Because in the minute you do, you're like, well, I screwed it up already. So why not just keep going? And both
Starting point is 00:13:14 of you, you must just look at what you've accomplished and just be like, you know what? I'm doing okay for if I eat a little bit of sugar. Like, you guys are crushing it in the business side of things and life. I mean, you know, it depends on the day how you feel. But yeah, I agree. It depends on the day. I have let myself off the hook a lot this year. I have two and I didn't have cancer. And I was like, well, Clea has cancer. That's it. You're her best friend.
Starting point is 00:13:37 So, yeah. We went through it together. Yeah, I bet. And I feel like just with everything going on, you still managed to be so successful. You accomplished a lot in 2022. I want to know what a typical day in the life looks like for you because I know for me it's so different every day and I'm sure it is for you too. But with your like organizing and your business and your podcasts and everything you have
Starting point is 00:13:58 going on. What is a day-to-day? Like, do you wake up at the same time every day? Do you have a structure to your weeks? Like, what does a work-balanced life look like? Well, first of all, there's no balance. I don't know. Zero balance. No, I don't know. Yeah. You know, our weeks are really not structured because it things, there are so many variables that happen. Like, we were in the month of December, I was in Nashville for two days of the month. Yeah. We were in L.A. Then we had a press trip and a podcast recording trip in New York, back in Nashville for two days. We flew to L.A. for a speaking event with the rap and then flew to D.C. for the White House holiday party. The White House holiday party? It was pretty, it was wild. It was, it was very
Starting point is 00:14:42 exciting. It really was. I'll tell you the most annoying thing about us, though. Okay, our husbands came because we had plus ones. Yeah. Joanna and I have been to the White House before for the last holiday, like Christmas, you know, a year ago. We were, insufferable. Like, John would be like, I have to go to the bathroom. I'm like, oh my God, okay, so like just turn left at the study. And then like when you hit the blue room, just like, you know, like we, we like knew the layout of the White House. We were so irritating. They were like, they were like taking pictures and we're like, oh, it's so cute. I remember my first time of the White House. I remember the red room too. No, we were just unbearable. That I've, you've done some cool things. Like, I'm, I'm like Nashville's most beautiful people you got. No, no, no. This is the best.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Yeah. We're actually not. What do you mean? So on the cover, no one really noticed this, but we laughed so hard to like. It's like our favorite thing of 22. It's the best thing that happened in 2022 is we got the cover of Nashville's most beautiful people. But the text reads the most beautiful friendship. So there were like 24 beautiful people and then our one beautiful friendship.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Oh, so you counted as like one. They counted as a beautiful friendship as a beautiful person, but it's... We're actually not beautiful. We're just having a beautiful friendship. We were like, wow, how did we get the cover? Then we went to the party. You don't see it until. And it's this whole big, you know, stands with the cover and everything.
Starting point is 00:16:08 And it says the most beautiful friendship. And we were dying. That is really funny. Yeah. But amazing. I mean, it is a beautiful friendship. Yeah. But you're two beautiful people that equal a beautiful friendship.
Starting point is 00:16:18 And they forgot that part. Yeah, we were like, huh. Yeah. It's just, it's so. So funny. I think, I don't know. I don't know how they picked it. But we laugh about it all the time. It's amazing. It's worth it. Wait, what's one story you can tell us from the White House? Oh, I'll tell you a story from the White House. It's so this was a year ago, not this year. Yeah. So we went, it was for the debut of the holiday decor. And Dr. Biden, you know, does all the trees and the different rooms. And Warren, who is with us, she's our SVP of creative and also a very good friend. So the three of us were there. And we were. And we were. work with the White House on a few things. And she lost her phone somewhere. They gave us like...
Starting point is 00:16:58 In the many rooms. In the many rooms. So many rooms. It was the whole East Wing and you can just roam around and take pictures and do whatever you want. And anyway, so she was like, I don't have my phone. And I was like, you have to. And we're ready to escort everybody, like, all this group out.
Starting point is 00:17:11 And when you're ready to be, like, escorted out by the White House, you can't be like, I'm sorry. I just need a few minutes. Yeah, you also can't, like, ding your Apple Watch and, like, go to different rooms out of here. No, you can't. So let me tell you. So all of a sudden.
Starting point is 00:17:22 like military officials or like showing up. Like, and they're in like full like Coast Guard uniform. Like they're like with like, you know, badges and metal.
Starting point is 00:17:30 There's a lot of people. Yeah. There are a lot of people. And they're all like, secret service had to be pulled off like an important duty to go find Lauren's phone. So Lauren,
Starting point is 00:17:39 so they had to backtrack through all of the rooms that we were in. And literally there are six being high. I'm just like thinking about it. I know there are six uniformed gentlemen who are not doing their job because they have to find Lauren's phone.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Oh, my gosh. And one of them says, so Lauren's, like, logged into Joanna's phone. She's doing the find my phone thing. One of them says, just the only thing you can't do is ding your phone.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Right as she presses, ding. Oh, no. Ding. So it starts dinging. And, of course, it's like, that could be like a bomb threat.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Oh, I was like, yeah, why can't it ding? Yeah, no, no, no, you cannot ding. And they have to find the phone. It's crucial because it could be a listening device. It could be a, you know, right. All of a sudden, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:21 like a national threat because Lauren lost her phone in the White House. And but when they were like just whatever you do, don't do it. They're like not a problem. We're going to find it. Right. Just don't ding it. And then ding. Oh, ding.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Is you mortified? Ding. So we're all, and it's winter. It's December. So we're all like piled in our coats. Lauren is profusely sweating. She's like sweating to all of her like thick layers of walls. Everyone, we're all dying.
Starting point is 00:18:46 The military is now with us. Anyway, it was underneath a couch cushion. Lauren blames Joanna. There's a big phone gate about that. It's not my fault. It's not. But like, it was under the couch kitchen. It was like on the couch sitting on.
Starting point is 00:19:00 You're like, yeah, I placed it there. We're either you sat there, Lauren sat there or whatever and it can like fall in the cracks. Yeah. Anyway, it was a national security issue for a minute. Oh my gosh. That's a good story though. But they invited us back.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Oh, there you go. I did. Well, next year, if you don't have a plus one. This little Canadian. I will, I will happily take you. John was like kind of annoying. Yeah. No, he wasn't.
Starting point is 00:19:21 I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Well, that's what husbands do. He just stopped to take pictures a lot. So I was like, that's so cute. I was like, hey, can you just take a quick picture? I know. But it's kind of cool to like, we would go on walks in D.C. It was like such a fun trip. D.C. is cool. It was beautiful. And there's something about the White House that feels, it's like Buckingham Palace. Yeah. I agree. It's just so stately. Like, it's exactly what it's supposed to feel like. It's exactly. Like, it's, it's the only pomp and circumstance we have in this country. So I just, I don't know, I love, I love D. Yeah, I do too. There's some sort of energy about it. Yeah, I agree. Totally agree. Okay, when you've got a lot going on, it can be really hard to find time or motivation for a workout. Now I've been there a million times before, but Peloton has really motivated me to get it in however and whenever I can. You guys already know how I feel about Peloton eats my pave. So I've had their bike for a while now, take classes on the app. But the Peloton row brand new to me. I went to their showroom in Nashville. I need to get this rower immediately. I should.
Starting point is 00:20:20 I should have asked for it for Christmas. Maybe I'll just get it myself. Merry Christmas, Caitlin. You guys, I'm serious when I say I actually had fun working out and feel like I got in a brand new type of workout for me, just full body. Starting point is 00:21:55 But MGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with Eye Gaming, Ontario. I want to know how often you guys are organizing homes now that you have all these other business avenues that you've gone on. Because that's how we all fell in love with the two of you. You were doing Kardashians' closets and then Reese Witherspoon's company like acquired. Yeah, they acquired us in February. In February, that's amazing. We don't do a lot of the organizing ourselves anymore, but we will be called in if it's like a big, huge project or like a very high profile person. And honestly, we save most of the organizing.
Starting point is 00:22:36 We do do the organizing on our show. You do. And that is. With our team. But we are heavily involved. Yeah. We are physically doing the work. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Right. Yeah. Yeah. Because how often were you filming? Because season two is out. Season 2. That's awesome. How often do you film for that, like to put out a full season? It takes about 10 weeks. Oh, wow. 10 weeks of hands-on organizing and filming. Like six days a week.
Starting point is 00:23:00 See, I would think that's harder than dancing with the stars. I'm not an organizer. Although I have to say, I mean, I've never done dancing with the stars. I don't have an athletic bone on my body. So I'm going to say right now, organizing is way easier. But it is mentally and physically really challenging because you have to be smart while you're. doing the work. And what we realized, the first time we ever filmed anything, we realized you can't be silent. You can't be focused. Oh my gosh. True. You know, you haven't be entertaining. We're actually trying to do the work. So we need to like think. But that's pretty quiet in your own brain unless they're like, well, I didn't even think about that. People need to know what's going on. Otherwise, it's pretty boring. Right. So now you're having to like like make TV. What are you putting
Starting point is 00:23:42 in that bin over there? And the thing is it's like it can't be boring either. So you're like, Dildos. Right. Right. Like, human teeth. I don't know. Like, it's just everything is a wild ride.
Starting point is 00:23:55 It is wild. I mean, with The Bachelor, like, what was the hardest part for you? But there's so much to talk about as. But like, what was the hardest part of the Bachelor? Faking it. Faking having a crush on someone or like needing to kiss someone to like get it out of the way or like pretending to like somebody. Yeah, that's really hard. Because they're good TV.
Starting point is 00:24:14 We have a really easy job. Both of your two TV shows sound really hard. Yeah, it was the, or the pickups where I would like put on the, yeah, the dress from like night one and have to go back and talk about some guy that like, I was like, I don't remember that. And they're like, well, this happened. So we need to talk about it. I'm like someday, I'm going to text you the photo of Joanna. Oh. In wardrobe that they made her put on.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Yeah. Like way, like to do a pickup. Yep. She looks like she is on her way to like Rikers Island. Like she is. Oh, I am. I've never been more. upset. She was so mad. And sometimes it's like, oh, God, they need to be laundered. They need
Starting point is 00:24:52 this. And they're like, God, it's so, it's so stressful. The pickups are so stressful. But to put on a pickup with a dress, did you have to do your hair or down hair and makeup? Yeah. Wow. Okay. You know, remember when I said, I would be on The Bachelor over, over the Amazing Race. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Because of the hair and makeup. Not because of the husband's like anything else. It's only I couldn't do the pickups with the hair and makeup. It's full glam and takes forever. And it's like, eight hours of pickups sometimes. Yeah. Pickups are my least favorite thing.
Starting point is 00:25:20 I already said it. I already did it. I'm like, I didn't mind some of the pickups because I'd be like, ooh, can I say that but funnier? Like, can I be funnier about this? And they'd be like, you know, and everything has to be funny. And that's something I'm going to therapy about too.
Starting point is 00:25:32 I want to know what you think about, like organizing Christmas stuff. I'm trying to take mine down right now, but all I have three trees still up. How do you feel about that? I still have two trees up. And I call it my daylight savings tree. Okay. It comes down in March. I love that.
Starting point is 00:25:45 And it goes up. in November. Like, I will not live one day on this earth where it is dark at 4 p.m. If I don't have a Christmas theater. Because it really does elevate the mood. It's it's cozy and special and magical. It's just, it's white lights. Like, what, who needs that down? That's true. You should just have a year-round tree. I tried that once. And it gets weird when it's warm out. I really tried. But what if you put like palm trees? My husband was like, this is becoming awkward. And it was, it was becoming unfortunate, too, because anytime anyone would come over, she'd have to explain it.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Anytime there was a Zoom background, it, like, took an extra 10 minutes. That's funny. I did have to. I feel like when you get to the point where you have to explain it away, it should come down. Okay, that's fair. But I do like where your head's at with all the, are you the same way with Christmas? No, I'm Jewish. And so is she.
Starting point is 00:26:34 I'm Jewish. Oh, yeah. My fiance is mom's Jewish and his dad's Catholic. So, Ken does both. There you go. We do both. Yeah, that's even better. What is the weirdest thing I know he said Dilda?
Starting point is 00:26:46 but I was joking. What's the weirdest thing you've had to organize? Teeth. Oh, teeth really was a weird thing you had to organize. Oh, yeah. Kind of a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:26:54 What? Not like organized them, but you find them. Oh. Yeah, like a teeth. I would say a used pregnancy test. Oh, wow. Yeah, that was kind of weird.
Starting point is 00:27:04 And also, there was like an animal heart. Oh, yeah. That was a long time ago. Sorry? I don't know. No, we don't even know what it was. It was like an unidentifiable organ. Oh.
Starting point is 00:27:14 That was in like a keepsake box. Yeah. I was, it wasn't the best day. No, that was, that was, that was, yeah, was that on, was that on, okay, didn't make the cut. No, that was just our real life. Oh my gosh. Okay, so when you guys were last on the podcast way back in 2018, um, you said the two biggest celebs that you had worked with were Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Have you worked with anyone bigger since, but I don't know. Is there anyone bigger than that? I don't know. I mean, I kind of think that like, I mean, I would put Reese in that camp too. Yeah. 100%. Yeah. I would put, I, I, I say this all the time, but like.
Starting point is 00:27:46 There's no one more famous than Reese Witherspoon. I agree. Like there are people like, I think Gwyneth Paltrow is like just as famous. But there's no one that's like more famous. Yeah. And there's obviously. The only new addition is what I was saying to that group. Because we hadn't done Reese in 2018.
Starting point is 00:28:01 No, we hadn't. But I mean, there are so many people. Oh, no, no. I know. But I know. I'm just saying that was, I was saying Reese wasn't a part of that or an initial group. Yeah. She didn't want us to organize for her for a long time.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Really? I think she really enjoyed that peer relationship. and feeling like a friend. And I think that one, now our team does it and it's like totally fine. Yeah. But back in the day when it was us doing it, I think that she felt like a little. That's so Reese. I know.
Starting point is 00:28:30 She's so amazing. And, you know, I just think. God, just amazing. Yeah. So. I mean, I have a lot of people have met her in Nashville. I have not. But like everyone consistently just talks about how incredibly wonderful she is.
Starting point is 00:28:44 She is. She is. And the way people think of her is the way she is. Yeah. Which is the best thing you could ever imagine. Yeah. Oh, I want to force that friendship so hard, but I'm just going to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:54 I know. I'm like, how do I force the friendship? Does she drink wine? I could send her some wine. She does. I actually came to her house once and I always drink champagne. Yes. And so it was like the second time that I brought champagne.
Starting point is 00:29:07 And she was like, is this like all you drink? And I was like, I'm so sorry. I'm like, did I fend? I'll bring red next time. Oh, my gosh. Bring her bottle of Spanthrow. I'll be like, Kayla must to force a friendship on you.
Starting point is 00:29:18 If you could choose a celebrity, I'm sure you get to ask this question all the time. Michelle Obama, you'd want to organize her. But I do, I'm starting to assemble a list. Okay. So Michelle Obama,
Starting point is 00:29:30 I think with the Netflix craze, I've become a little obsessed with Megan Markle. I have the biggest, like, crush in the world on Zendaya. Yeah. And Tom Holland, I think, would be fun. You're such a cute.
Starting point is 00:29:44 You're obsessed with all of them. There's such a cute couple. They are. They totally are. Well, and Michelle and Barack. I mean, it would take it too. Nothing better. I mean, that's number one.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And Megan and Harry, they're a lot of good couples. Megan and Harry, I feel like their love is so genuine. It's so genuine. It is so genuine. You can just tell, and the respect they have for each other and they're like. So cute. She has a perfect nose is what I want to say. She really does.
Starting point is 00:30:04 She really does. It is like, I'm going to take a picture of that to my plastic surgeon when I get my reconstruction. Give me the Megan Mark. I actually asked my first surgery, my double mastectomy. I was like, how. Joking, maybe like 60% joking. But I was like, if you have time for some like light rhinoplastie, I was like, that would be.
Starting point is 00:30:20 And he goes, he goes, you'd be surprised how many women ask for that. Really? Yes. You're like, well, while I'm under. While I'm under. Let's do it. Yeah. And he said no?
Starting point is 00:30:29 No, he said, sure. Amazing. My first surgery, it just, it was like totally off the rails because of what they found. But my reconstruction surgery, so they have to lipo you. Yeah. To like do a fat transfer anyway. I'm going to be like, take the fat from my thumb. Like any fat you see, just go for it.
Starting point is 00:30:49 I don't even need it to put it in my boobs. Just like, take it. And then I'm going to ask for a Megan Markle. I love that. Yeah. She's just so pretty. She's just the cutest little nose. It just like turns up at the end.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Yeah. I have, mine is like, well, everyone on this podcast knows that my celebrity crush is Paul Rudd. Oh, I love Paul Rudd. He is incredible. He doesn't age. He doesn't age. I'm like, drop your skin care routine. I never thought about that.
Starting point is 00:31:14 It's weird. He actually is like the opposite. Like he's getting better. He's Benjamin Button. He's Benjamin Button. Yeah. A lot of my listeners had questions for the two of you. They love you both.
Starting point is 00:31:24 They don't know us. They want to know what one person does. If you could remove one item and add one item from someone's home that would improve their life for the better. What would it be? Okay. Well, I'll tell you what to always get rid of. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Everyone has something from their wedding like a fondue pot, an ice cream maker, a walk, something that they do not use. And it takes up so much space. I would love to give people the freedom to just donate it. Yes. And I'll just double down on that. Any gift that someone gives you that you really don't like, move on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:00 It's so much weight and pressure to keep things that you just don't need or love. I know. How do you explain that to a very sentimental person? Is the person that's trying to give it away sentimental? Yeah. It's tough. I got to say, like you have to decide. I mean, I always say, this is like my, what I always say.
Starting point is 00:32:16 You get the item or you get the space. Sometimes one is more valuable. It becomes pretty clear. Yeah. You know, which you want more. We ask people, do you need it? Do you use it? Do you love it?
Starting point is 00:32:25 Is it special? Yeah. If it can't fill one of those buckets, you shouldn't have it. You're not like treating the item with respect. And you don't have to get rid of everything sentimental. Like, that's the misconception. It's like being organized is not having sentimental things. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:32:37 It's just honoring the collection and storing it properly. And fondu pot. Yeah. Like how much fondue are you eating? once every three years possibly if you're a fondue person. Right. And that's what like one of those fondue people. Like that's what that's going on. Yeah. Yeah. And if you are, you do it once every three years at Christmas time. Yeah. I think a lot of people feel guilt in throwing things away. But I think that's where it's nice to remind people that you can donate. Always. I remember talking about this actually on the podcast we did. Can you just research places to donate like women's shelters for makeup? Like, oh, women's shelters. Yeah. Baby to Baby is a national network. Yeah. I remember that one. I mean, temples, churches.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Like, there's a lot of places. Veteran organizations. Because there's so many places to donate. I think that's what, I think people, myself, I'll be like, oh, I can't throw that away. I feel bad. And then I'll be like, oh, my gosh, Caitlin, put it in a donation pile. The key, though, is don't let your donation pile just sit there forever. Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:31 That's the mistake people make. Because you have to call and find a time slot. So you might as well call, find a time slot and then. Or drop it off. Get it out of your house. Put it in your car. Because then put it in your car. It's immediately.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Because the second, it literally has legs. So if you leave it in the corner, it somehow finds its way back into your house. You're right. But there's some organizations that will actually come and pick it up for you too, which is so convenient. Yeah. Okay, someone wants to know, maximizing home storage with limited space. Oh, walls. Walls.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Vertical space. Okay. Absolutely. Back of the door. Back of the doors is a good one. And carts. Carts. What do you mean carts?
Starting point is 00:34:05 Like a rolling cart. Oh, okay. Oh, yes, yes. So, for instance, like in this room, if you had a cart over by the desk, you could have all of your desk supplies, extra chargers. You can make it an entire station. We did a lot of those during COVID and like work from home kind of stations. And, you know, basically if you need to invent storage space where none already exists and
Starting point is 00:34:26 using a wall, putting in floating shelves, putting in a wall rack, using a behind-the-door unit, a cart, anything like that, just it amplifies and adds to your storage. Yeah, I think I like that advice. Okay, tips to get your family on board with streamlined organization. Okay. We all have different ideas about what makes the most sense. It's hard to make progress when I truly want to declutter further. Well, there are a lot of answers to this.
Starting point is 00:34:50 First of all, reasonable expectations. And then we always say you have to decide if it's a you problem or if it's an everyone in the family problem and make that distinction. For example, Clea and I, our kids in each respective homes, they have to make their beds in the morning. Yeah. However, the kids do it. We don't like how they do it.
Starting point is 00:35:06 We don't like how they make the bed. So we need to go in. That's a problem. That's right. So we go in and make the bed the way that we want. want the bed made. But that's an us problem. The kids did their job. Yeah. So this goes for anybody. Like, if you have a basket for shoes, if you don't, if you don't like how they put the shoes in the basket, that's a you problem. If you want to fix that, that's you. If your kids cannot put their
Starting point is 00:35:23 shoes in the basket because they're putting it next to it, that's a them problem. Ah. And reasonable expectations is really the key. Yes. And again, like Joanna said, knowing when it's something that bothers you that might not be a reasonable expectation. Yeah. And something that you're like, look, you're a member of this household. Like be a responsible. of this household and, like, don't leave your stuff everywhere. That kind of leads into my next question. I think it might be the same answer. Tips on how to combine things when you move in with a significant other.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Pick the better item when there are duplicates. Yeah. Like, you have to, you have to reduce. You don't need two sets of everything. Yeah, but then I think of like my style versus Jason's style. Well, your style's probably going to win. I'll be like, get rid of that. There's this coffee table that he keeps upstairs where I'm like, I know you had it when
Starting point is 00:36:09 you, like, moved into your first home when you were. whatever age and it might be like something to you but like it's ugly as hell can it go somewhere else that you don't have to live in like is there an extra space it has he has an office or something is he attached to a coffee table i don't know it's weird because it's not really attached to certain things you know it's i bet you've seen that a lot in your career it's always surprising it is you know and it's maybe it's the first thing he bought as like an adult like people you know there are all kinds of things yeah there are landmines every time we organize like people are just sentimental about weird things like you know, a mug, like, you know, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:36:43 It's just like, I don't know. If you can find a space that you don't have to see it all the time. Can you, like, take a photo of it? Can we just Polaroid and then just tuck it away forever? Digitize that. It's so funny because he's attached to that and his poker table. Okay, so maybe he gets one of the two tables. Which I'm down with the poker table.
Starting point is 00:36:59 I think the poker table sounds fun. I can get down with a little game. You know, let's go have a take. That's your compromise. Joanna, one of her unknown facts about her is that she is a psycho poker player. Are you really? I love poker. I love it. I mean, I'm not great. I really am not great.
Starting point is 00:37:15 All right. Quick pause. Quick pause. We'll be right back with these two ladies in a second, but I want to take a quick solo moment. This is my moment for my ongoing segments with Peloton. I'm calling the segments the Romance Roundup because I'm clever like that where I talk about all things, romance. So today's episode made me think about organization, OBS, and what happens when you combine lives and move in with your significant other. So I posted on. my OTV Instagram asking for the biggest shocks when moving in together and this is what you guys had to say, okay? I'm dying. Keep in mind because a lot of my listeners are women. This is pretty much what they had to say about their male partners. And I quote, he actually thought
Starting point is 00:37:54 the laundry was just done by itself. Taking the longest time to poop and never shutting the bathroom door when doing so. How infrequently they wash their hands. The lack of ability to use a towel properly
Starting point is 00:38:10 I might need more info on this one. Like, what does he do? How does it? What does he wipe with the towel? Oh, do I want to know more? I don't know. He didn't understand the concept of closing cupboards, drawers, the dishwasher, etc.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Isn't it funny what you learn about people? I wonder if the home edit girls can help with that one. How many alarms it takes to wake them up. Okay, actually, I'm guilty to the, I'm definitely a victim to the snooze button. My husband drinks from the bathroom sink every morning no matter where we are. Odd. How much men eat in a day?
Starting point is 00:38:40 day. Facts. And someone answered their biggest shock. L.O.L. Everything. I feel like I've learned many things from living with significant others. So that wasn't quite romantic, okay, per se, but I think we did the job. Do you? And you know what? Could be really romantic, or at least really cool, is having a Peloton row when you move in with your significant other. So Peloton row offers a variety of classes for all levels and game-changing features that help you get rowing or just advance what you already can do. And you can explore Peloton Row and their financing options at OnePeloton.com slash row. You're going to want to check it out. It actually is really fun. That really is. Okay. Let's get back to it. I can't get over still how the two of you met
Starting point is 00:39:26 because you went into business the day you met, right? And how long ago was that? Seven years ago. Seven and a half years ago. Can you recap that little story? No, not a half yet. It's August. Yeah, February. In February, it's a half. It's the sixth month. All right. Where were you? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I'm cancer, Joanna. Well, rub it in, Joanna. Leave me alone. That's true. You did lose a lot of time. That's true. Yeah. But that's, okay, so seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Seven and a half years. Yeah. In February. So Joanna moved to San Francisco, moved from San Francisco to Nashville about a year, let's say, before I moved from Los Angeles. And when I moved here, I met my very, first friend. Her name's Leah. And I love and Lion, Leah. Love and Lion is her handle. And I went to brunch with her as new internet friends do. I did. I had to like make friends on the internet. I was like,
Starting point is 00:40:18 what do people do in this world? Yeah. So anyway, so Leah and I went to brunch and I told her I really wanted to start an organizing business. And she said, I have a really good friend, Joanna. She had an organizing business in San Francisco and she wants to re-up it in Nashville. You guys should absolutely meet. So I took that, not even necessarily as like, we should be business partners, but I was like, this is, this sounds excellent. Like, this sounds like, you know, destiny. Yeah. So she pitched the same thing to Joanna.
Starting point is 00:40:46 And Joanna was like, absolutely no, no way, no how. 100%. I don't want to have a business partner. And she's like, and quite frankly, I don't even, I don't even want to go to lunch with her. No, I went to lunch with you. After coaxing. No, not coaxing. But I definitely didn't want a business partner.
Starting point is 00:41:02 A hundred percent. Yeah. Yeah, it was scary. It was a hard no for her. Yeah. But we ended up going to lunch. The second I met her, like within two minutes. Wow.
Starting point is 00:41:12 It was a four-hour lunch. We never asked each other, like, so do you want to go into business together? We just did. We're doing it. We just jumped in. And literally, that was at lunch. And that same night, we came up with the name, the home edit. We came up with our logo.
Starting point is 00:41:28 We got our domain. We got our social handles. Totally. We started doing out paperwork. We just jumped in. So it wasn't even. in like 24 hours. It was like eight hours. I mean, thank God your intuitions were right because that could have been. I know. Yeah. You know what? When you know you know. That's true. Business, romance.
Starting point is 00:41:44 And I just knew like, again, I didn't, of course I didn't want a business partner. I'd still stand by that. Yeah. It only works as I met Clea. And I was like, 100% this is, it's you. Wow. I was special. I was right. And now seven and a half years later and you've done so much together. I saw you, I was driving, you were on a freaking billboard in Nashville the other day. I was like, It's crazy. How do I get on a billboard? I don't know how we got on the billboard. You don't even know?
Starting point is 00:42:08 No. I mean, Sony. Sony. Sony's got a budget. Yeah. It's crazy to drive by it. Yeah, it is. It's so wild.
Starting point is 00:42:18 This week's Off the Vine is brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Now, most of you listening right now are probably multitasking because you're go-getters. Starting point is 00:43:26 and discounts are not available in all states and situations. I mean, because now, so you have a podcast called Best Friend Energy. That's what the billboard was for, right? Yes. Yeah, that's what I thought. And I was like, what? That's so cool.
Starting point is 00:43:45 And tell everyone what they can expect to hear when they tune into your podcast. Kind of a lot like what we're doing right now. Yeah. I mean, Joanna and I are obviously best friends and business partners. And we have a lot of other friends and online friends and social media follower friends. And friends like you. And we want to, you know, connect everyone. And when people listen, we want them to feel like they're talking to
Starting point is 00:44:07 their friends. Yeah, exactly. I love that. It really is. And so we bring on, we do two episodes a week. We have one episode that's an interview where like, we're going to make you come on. Yeah, you're perfect. You don't have to make me. I'll be like waiting outside at your first step. And then the second one is just like a looser format where we just kind of like talk about like what we're obsessing over that week or, you know, it's just kind of, it's called unpacked and it's just us. Yeah. That's cool. That's a good name. Unpacked. I like that. It's fun. Yeah. And really, it's fun because we get to do it together and we get to bring on people that we love or we think we're going to love. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:38 Really amazing. Like, there are some people that we brought on that we're like, okay, we don't know you yet as a friend. Yeah. But by the end of this podcast, we are going to be friends. Yeah. Better be friends with us. I get that. Yeah, that's me.
Starting point is 00:44:49 And it's been so fun getting to know some people. Isn't that cool? I literally, it's such an, like, intimate format, you know? Yes. Yes. And we interviewed when we were in New York, we interviewed Jesse Tyler Ferguson. I saw that on your page. I'm obsessed with him. Oh, I mean, totally.
Starting point is 00:45:04 It's like Reese. He's exactly who you want him to be. Yes. And then, and then some. Yeah. And then some. He is so. I was going to ask who, like, some of your favorite guests.
Starting point is 00:45:13 I'm assuming him because I, I met him because I went to Sarah and Well's wedding and he officiated their wedding. Yes. He talks about that. He is a really unique human being. Yes. Like a really special soul. Yes.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Well, you know what's really funny. He, so. So funny. Whenever we, whenever we record podcasts. or whenever we film at someone's house, you know, a celebrity's house, whatever. There's always like a team, you know, there's like the glam squad and this and that.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Jesse showed up with just like a black Jansport backpack. Like, oh, I love that. Literally adjust him. And it was just so funny because like everyone shows up with the team, you know? And so he just came in a Jansport and he was telling us the story of that traffic in New York is so terrible. So he either takes a subway or rides like a city bike. Imagine seeing him on the subway. Oh, he's, I wouldn't believe it, actually.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Yeah. He's like, that's a double ganger. Yeah, totally. So he's like, he's like, I thought it would feel really dangerous, but it really feels fine. He's like, actually one time I did get hit by a car. He goes, he goes, a car, like, they just opened the door right into my bike. And here I am, like, laying on the ground.
Starting point is 00:46:20 And they realized it was me and just wanted to take selfies. And he's like, I'm actually bleeding. I'm in pain. He's like, I think I need to go to the hospital. Oh, my gosh. We've been so lucky with the guests that we've had and the ones that we don't know that we've through the show. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:32 Really, really fun. We've interviewed some really, really fun people. I mean, it's still brand new, but we've interviewed Rachel Zoh, Lauren Conrad, Drew Barrymore, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Giaada. Giata De LaRontas, that was really fun. Do you know Jimmy Allen, the country? Yes, love Jimmy. Yeah, Jimmy and Alexis. Love them so much.
Starting point is 00:46:51 Oh, my gosh. Zoe Deutsch. Oh, yeah, Zoe Deutsch. She did. Did you see the Christmas movie? Something from Tiffany's? I always, like, want to say. Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Starting point is 00:47:01 I know. Something from Tiffany. No, I have not seen that, but I know who that is. So Zoe, it's a Hello Sunshine movie. Okay. It was like a fun kind of reunion. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, you've had some good guests.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I've got to get Jesse Ferguson on mine. I mean, honestly, it's, it's, I think a much lower lift for people to do a podcast than record. Like, we're used to begging people to let us film in their house. That's true. You know? That's true. So we're like, hey, you're off the hook for that.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Yeah. But could we borrow you for like 30 minutes? Yeah. Yeah. So that, I'll tell you, that is where it's really hard. Like allowing, getting people to, because it's not just us. It's like a film crew. Right. You know. It's a whole thing. Yeah. It's a whole production. Yeah. Coming in and setting up. Yeah. So we've been overarching, just very lucky people. Very. You just need to set the bar a little lower like me. I'm like, I just rent other people's stuff and show up by myself. I have my producers on Zoom. Like, no, Jesse is like one of the most like talented, famous actors. Isn't that funny? most successful TV shows and Broadway shows, and he just shows up with a backpack. I was like, God, I love this man. I know. Yeah, if you couldn't love him anymore, that just, you know. Oh, my God. And he was telling us this story about all the hot dog carts in New York.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Like, at the end of the day, he's like, never eat a hot dog from the cart because they all go to this, like, underground, like, sewer facility. Stop. Where they all go down there. And then the rats just come and, like, eat all the hot dogs. And he hasn't verified this, like, by fat. But he was like, he was like, it's like, it's like. The Vival goes west down there. It's like, there are no cats in America. We were crying. Oh my gosh. I can just picture him like saying all this stuff too.
Starting point is 00:48:38 He's so funny. Wait, that's sick. I was like, what about the pretzels? I've definitely had a pretzel. He's like, I don't want to say. He's like, I don't know. I can't confirm. Can't confirm or deny. Oh my gosh. That's really, that makes me a little bit ill. Yeah. Do you have any pet peeves about each other? Everyone wants to know this. And I'm like, I don't think they do. I have one. Okay. Joanna's a loud churer. Oh, thoughts and prayers to the misophonia community. I have it.
Starting point is 00:49:05 I have it as well. It is crazy. I have like moved seats on airplanes. Yes. Bring air plugs. It saved my life. You know what the worst sound for me is? Joanna does not do this.
Starting point is 00:49:15 But you know that's not sucking sound. Yes. I know. And why does, there's always one person on the plane that does it. Always one. And I literally like physically. Oh, I do too. I'll turn around and give them a look.
Starting point is 00:49:26 There was someone on our. crew when we were filming. They, I'm not even going to say a gender, they made that sound. I was like, it's the most disgusting noise. I totally can relate to that. And I've talked about misophonia on my podcast millions of times because I didn't realize how big that community was. It's real. It's a real thing. It's a real thing. Yes. It's like my girlfriend was trying to explain it to me and I'm not going to do it justice. But she said something about how the sound waves for some people go through like an emotional part of your brain that triggers it. Interesting. Yeah. I want to learn more about it because I definitely have it's so real yeah you know how like I've seen on
Starting point is 00:50:02 TikTok best friends or couples or relationships do like the ick about each other so that would be yours the chewing I know what yours would be what actually there's no no I'm like to hear what you say that I'm always right oh no no it's not it's not that I'm always right it's that I have an excellent memory yes so Joanna and I would be like right and I'll be like no Joanna that happened in 2016 we were walking into this restaurant. You were wearing this outfit. And she's like, ugh, the other annoying thing, I do a lot of annoying things. I'm just going to give you my list. Oh, okay. All right. I'll take your list. But you can, you can offer that. Oh, I can offer. Oh, I was going to say late. Oh, that's, that's a real one.
Starting point is 00:50:40 Yeah. That's a real one. But, you know, you love the person and you just deal with whatever the stupid thing. It's true. The end of the day, what does it matter? That's true. My husband's absolute pet peeve is being late and I run late. Yeah. I, here's in my defense. I just want to do. No, no, no. And actually I buy into your defense. after all these years. After all these years. I do. I actually buy into it. I grew up in Los Angeles and then lived in New York. Those are the only places I ever lived. There is no way you could give anyone an ETA that is less than zero to nine minutes with the grace period. Yes. You just, you cannot control the traffic. Uh-huh. Even if you put it in that way too. I know. It's getting that way too. I know. It's getting crazy. Even if you put it in ways, you can watch the time change and it's all of a sudden now it's 12 minutes late. You're 13. But I think if you're under 10 minutes, if you're in the single digits, the siddits. Yep. I think that it's a grace period. I do too. I, my fiance is always late for everything. And I'm not on time, but I'm usually like around the time. But I'm totally in with the grace period. But now I actually, because in the beginning, I didn't understand it. I was like, oh my God, we're two minutes late to something. It was like a big job in L.A. Yeah. You know, we just started this business. And I would be so panic banging on her door.
Starting point is 00:51:51 Yeah. I'm like, we have to go. We have to go. And she's like, oh. Yeah. But now I like really get, I really get it after being in L.A. so much, too. I'm, I really get it now. And we were just in New York. Yeah. It's, it's, it's, it's crazy. It took 43 minutes to go one mile. One mile. That's, it was insane. I mean, you just walk at that point. You got to walk. But I mean, we did. Yeah, we did. Yeah, that's, I've done that in New Jersey. And you're like, what do you think about people who peel eggs in her car and eat it? That's an egg. Absolutely animal-like behavior. She's like, I do it. Why? How could, how could you do that? What in the world? No. No. They're eggs in your... You have eggs here? Do you have eggs in your purse? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:52:32 I want you in my car. Oh, they're worse. Yes. Oh, my God. Put them in a zip lock. No. No, I hope you go get them. Why don't you peel it before you get in the car?
Starting point is 00:52:42 I was really hoping for that reaction that I just got. That is not good. So on the way here, I have a dash holder for my phone. And so I'm driving and I'm listening to, we're like prepping for the podcast on the way here and talking it through. And I was like, oh, by the way, don't mind me. I'm just like peeling eggs and eating a snack on my way. And the least of my producer is like, you know, you can buy them peeled. That's what my other producer said.
Starting point is 00:53:07 She said, you can buy them peeled. And I was like, okay, but I was in a hurry. I didn't have time to stop and buy a peeled one. I have them as snacks all the time. Then I realized how gross it was to do that in my car. Yes. But I sealed it in the, no. So in your car right now, do you have a physical egg or is it the shell?
Starting point is 00:53:23 The shell. You have a carcass. Oh, when you put it. that way. You have an egg carcass. I have an egg carcass. It is a carcass. It's pretty gross. Wait, there is one yoke in there. Is that the chickens period? Oh, my God. Joanna's vegan. She's not going to. Okay. We're not. That is, I was pescatarian for a very long time. And I could easily go back because I could see that. That's, yeah, yeah. If you think about it too much. Yeah, let's not. Let's just, you know what? No, I didn't feel eggs and drive. That was just a joke. That was just to, like, lube you up into a good confession. that was mine. What's yours? Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Okay. Wait. What was the confession that I was going to do? Oh, I know. It was it was Haley. Oh, this is so embarrassing. All right. I'm just going to let you only tell yours. I'll save mine for the next time. Okay. This is so embarrassing. So we had just started the home edit. We had just gotten like our shirts made that have like, you know, the home edit logo and everything. So we're at the container store. And it was like the first. or maybe it was it must have been one of the first times we ever got recognized yeah and someone came up to us this like little child was what I thought his little girl yeah and not little girl but like pixie little yeah tiny little sprite and she came up and she was like oh my oh my god are you guys the home at it and I was like yes that's so nice of you to like notice thank you and she's like I just moved to Nashville from L.A and I was like I'm just moved to Nashville from L.A and I was like I'm just
Starting point is 00:54:55 moved to Nashville from L.A. And she was like, I'm so embarrassed for you. I know, and I was there. It's awful. And she goes, she goes, I'm in the music business. And, you know, when people say that in Nashville, it's like being in L.A. and them saying, I'm an actor. Yeah. You know, so I was like, oh, sweetheart. I was like, okay. Well, you know what? I was like, someday you will make it. You know, like, I literally was like, like, hat on the back. Yeah. Like, you know, one day. And she started asking. She's like, my dream is for you to organize my house. And I'm like, we'll get to your dorm room eventually, you know, like, I just, thank God she didn't say that, but that was the inner dialogue. Yeah, the inner dialogue was like, oh, but it's like, it's a dorm. Like, there's no way, like,
Starting point is 00:55:34 you can't afford this. And she called her mom over and I thought they were back to school shopping. Right. Okay. We get to the cash register. And anyway, I was like, it was so nice meeting. You like, bend down. Yeah, I was like, it was so fun. I was like, here's our business card if you ever want to reach out, you know, like, want to be out. Oh, my God. You get a job. No, it's awful. So we go to pay. and the cashier goes, did you meet her? And I was like, who? It was Haley Williams from Paramore. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:56:05 I'm obsessed with her. Well, she's probably not obsessed with me. Oh. How embarrassing. I was literally like, oh my God, you are so going to make it a music one day. I was like, and let me tell you, once you make it,
Starting point is 00:56:19 you call us, we will organize your bedroom. Is anything more cringeworthy than this story? I know. Don't you want to let yourself on fire? It's so awful. I'm like she's one of my idol. I've seen her live like three times. I'm obsessed with her. She sat next man on a plane once and I almost shit my pants and I like couldn't bring myself to talk to her. But you need to reach back
Starting point is 00:56:41 out and be like we will organize. Oh my God. I still am so embarrassed thinking about it. It's so embarrassing. It's one of my most. Wow, that really humbled the shit out of her, I bet. One of my most embarrassing moments. You know, but honestly, she's so tiny. She is very tiny. She, like, called her mom over. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:55 I was like... No, the context set itself up, but it just didn't have to go. It didn't have to go as bad as it did. It went, oh, that's amazing, though. Oh, sweetie, call me when you make it. Yeah. I mean, she didn't say that, but that was like, that was definitely the tone. I was definitely like, you are going to hit it big one day.
Starting point is 00:57:14 You know, probably played a hockey talk. You're like... Oh, my God, it's so embarrassing. It's so bad. It's so bad. Okay, that's a great confession, though. It's so bad. No one's ever heard of that.
Starting point is 00:57:23 And, you know, actually, to this day, sometimes if we need to be like, that's someone, like you need, like someone you know, like a celebrity, we'll be like, it's Haley Williams. You know, like it's like our code. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like, you better figure that out fast. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, on the same page. Yeah. We'll be like, really Williams is here. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:57:44 I do need to. I think I will reach back. You have to. I love her. Oh, my God. It was so mortifying. Yeah, that's, I have a little bit of embarrassment for you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:52 second-hand embarrassment. Yeah. It's real. It is a real thing. Yeah. Joanna. No, I'm saving mine. I'm saving mine. Do you want me to do it?
Starting point is 00:57:59 No. No. I'm on the edge of my seat. It's pretty embarrassing. It's not better than Cleas. It's not better. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:58:09 So my husband's in the music industry. Yeah. And he was, he's been in it since college. Yeah. And he's young. Yeah. So he's been for a really long time. Anyway, and we lived in L.A. for a while and he would bring me to shows.
Starting point is 00:58:21 But he's like so. Jeremy's the most professional person and is, like, not in it for, like, the celebrity at all. Like, he is so business, head down. He just wants to, like, do his jobs and do it so well. Like, he's really into the business piece of it. And he loves the art of music. So I would go to shows occasionally, but it was like, I'm like, eh, whatever. But he's like, all right, John Mayer's in town. Do you want to go to the show? You know, he's one of his artists.
Starting point is 00:58:42 He, like, knew John when John started. Yeah. Like forever. So I was like, okay, it was like a really, you know, it was like at the Greek theater. It was like a big deal. So I was like, okay, I'll go. And then when we got there, they have like the meet and greets and like whatever. And he has all his radio winners.
Starting point is 00:58:57 So he's orchestrated in this big meet and great. And then when I got into the room, I like all of a sudden had like a full panic that I was going to have some. outburst. And it was... But tell her why you went into a panic. Oh, because I was so upset. I think he'd just, like, broken up with Jennifer Aniston or something. Yeah. Like, it was something so stupid. And I was so afraid. I was going to blur it out to him. Like, I can't believe you broke up with Jennifer Anderson. And I don't know this guy. I don't know John Merrick at all. And like, what a crazy thing to panic about? And so, like, words are just going to fly. I was like so panicked. I was so panicked that all of a sudden, I was like, Jeremy, I don't want to meet him. I don't want to meet him. I was like, I'm not going to meet him. Just take your winners. I actually don't want to meet him. And she was like, I cannot. I cannot. meet this person? And you didn't because of that. She went and stood in a corner facing the wall. Wait a sec. And then all of a sudden, there are no radio winners left anymore. And John Mayer looks at Jeremy and is like, who's that weird lady? You want to know something funny? What? This was your confession five years ago. Oh, my God. How embarrassing that you only have one embarrassing thing. Oh, my God. When you said that, I remembered in my brain, I was like,
Starting point is 01:00:01 you said this. And then I just said to them, I was like, wait, was this? They were like, yes, she told the story already. That's even more embarrassing. Well, that's bad for your memory. Looks like I don't have to be annoyed at you with your memory anymore. I've just told this story so many times. Hey, but look, I like to think we have a lot of new listeners from five years ago. Well, if they heard that twice, good for you. A lot of people wouldn't remember. And that's a great story. Here's an addition to the story. Okay. I know it was not told because it just happened this year. Bonus footage. Yes, it is. For, so I did, Jeremy's like, he's like, who's that person in the corner? And Jeremy's like, that's my wife. So, like, I went over and he's like, come, bring her over here. So I was like, thank God I didn't blurt out something weird. Yeah. And we took a picture. Which it's not like an ailment of yours.
Starting point is 01:00:39 No, I know. It's not. But I just was like, it was like weird panic. Like I'm just like weirdly obsessed with lording out something weird. Yeah. Okay. So then he was like, do you want to take a picture? And at that point, I was already so weird.
Starting point is 01:00:50 So I was like, yeah, of course. So we took a picture. So I have one image that we printed out. This is like before the age of like cell phones, I feel like. Or we had cell phones, but not like the high quality stuff. Yeah. So we had a picture or it came through Jeremy's work stuff. I had one copy.
Starting point is 01:01:04 the picture and I was cleaning out something in my house and I came across the picture. So for Cleo's 40th birthday, it's like a print. It's like for a printer, I have one copy. And for her 40th birthday, I gave her the copy of the picture. So she got the one picture. I got the one picture because it's my favorite story in the world, which is why I don't remember you not, or telling it before because I tell it all the time. Like, I might even start telling it as though I was there. Every now and then. Oh, God, I have so many embarrassing stories. I have retold a story. I'll be like Joanna, I have to tell you about this time that I was at a meet and greet with John Mayer.
Starting point is 01:01:36 And she has to be like, no, that was, that was me. Sometimes I will retell a story so many, because it's just, I can make it funnier. So I do that do. I assert myself and I have retold stories to that person whose story it is. Let me, rest of sure, this did not happen to you. That is, so I know. So that is new bonus footage. Oh, it is.
Starting point is 01:01:55 Thank you for sharing with us and our listeners. Yeah, I know, I'm like, text me a photo of that. And I need to, uh, I'm making my mom find somewhere. We have boxes of pictures of pictures of. I have a printout photo of me and Snoop Dog. Wow. That's good one. So that's it.
Starting point is 01:02:08 And that's the podcast today. I've got to end it on that note. Thank you both so much. Caitlin, this was so fun. Thank you both so much for coming on. It's so fun. I would, if you want to have me on. We would love you.
