Okay, Vino, so I know this last week has been an especially heavy one, and it's Mental Health Awareness Month, so I thought we could end it on a great therapy. I also want to remind everyone if you didn't see my stories that I think we are all enraged enough to take. some action. If you're enraged enough to post on social media, let's do something about it. Email your
Starting point is 00:02:01 senator, donate to the families, donate to a cause. Let's take some action. I think we could all use two therapy sessions this week. So this one, I'm calling throwback therapy since I'm hanging out with my favorite millennial. So while Tuesday is typically reserved for an OTV, I hope you enjoy this very special extra grape throwback therapy session with my friend Rod. Oh, my gosh, don't judge me right now. Oh, God. Oh, my God, I look like a, well, I genuinely did kind of roll out of bed and come on here. I look like sad almost.
Starting point is 00:02:38 No, not sad? It's a little sad. You always look good. Come on. Oh, do you? You cannot seriously look at me right now and say, you know what? You're looking good today. Probably when you have like, you know, glam for events and stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:52 And then you're just like, well, not this morning. I look like I'm a glue stick. Like, I need a stick down so bad. A glue stick. I'm just an Elmer's blue stick. Oh, where's your slingo? Did you use some car? Yeah, I can, I have, if I'm sitting down, I can pick it off now.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Oh, I have to have a, I'm resting on my desk. I was hiking. And well, hiking is a loose word. So I went on a hiking trip, literally climbing mountains the whole week in Scotland, beautiful. And then the last day, the guide that we were with, it was for campaign. The guide was like, hey, you guys, I just want to go to this random castle. They'll literally drive up to it. You just have to climb a little hill.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I'm like, yeah, absolutely. Climbing the smallest hill that you've ever seen in your life. Oh, no. I fell. Oh, no. On a hill. That's kind of funny, though. But I'm sorry that happened to you.
Starting point is 00:03:47 but you're feeling better. Yeah, I'm fine. It is what it is at this point. The only thing bummer is I can't work out. That's, like, really hard for me. Are you really into working out? Yeah, the past couple months especially, I used to be, went through a big weight loss,
Starting point is 00:03:59 you know, quarantine hit, weight fluctuation, all that, fun stuff people go through. And then the past couple months I was really getting into it for summer. And then this happened. And I'm like, okay. Damn it. I know. You can still probably find ways around it,
Starting point is 00:04:11 but that's, do you find, like, have you fallen in love with it because of how it mentally makes you feel because me, I never worked out, like, through my 20s, I don't know, I would just, like, go to dance classes and that was my workout. Yeah, I'm a dancer. I had to shift my mindset from, like, body dysmorphia and, like, growing up in the dance world to, like, okay, I'm not working out to, like, get skinny, of course. I, like, want to feel strong and empowered.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And once I shifted my brain to do that, I, like, looked at working out in a whole new light, and it made me feel so strong. yeah so i um went through like i said i was overweight and then i went through big weight loss and on the other end had anorexia like i literally was like eating disorder if this is if i shouldn't be talking about this but trigger why but yeah i don't know well you just never know who's listening but um we put a trigger warning on yeah but it was you know i really got into running but then it even got to a toxic point with food where my friends stopped inviting me out because i was like well do they have options of like under this many
Starting point is 00:05:14 calories and all this stuff. And then I just wasn't enjoying my life. And then once I found a healthy relationship with food was when I really, you know, found that working out was enjoyable. And I like, I shifted because I was running and I just run because I'm like, I'm losing weight. I'm losing weight. Like you said. And then once I like, and the runner's height definitely was something with that once I realized like, no, I just feel good. Like I'm able to take out a group. Like if I'm mad that day, I'm doing ball slams. If I'm just want to, if I want to take it easy. And that's my when I also shifted the mentality is that like any workout is a workout is a good workout. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Because there were days where I'm like, I don't have an hour and a half to work out today. I can't work out. It's like walk on an incline for 30 minutes. It's still a good workout, you know, just mental, mental clarity. I agree. I go based on my mood of what I'm doing in a workout. Like, and I even go based on like my cycle. Like I'm like, oh, I am PMSing.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Like I'm going boxing today. Like I honestly do that and it just like feels so good to do that stuff. Yeah. Well, obviously, this is a great therapy episodes. So any kind of like therapy, we feel good about at the end of this. So I'm going to start all my grape therapy episodes moving forward by asking the guest and answering myself that we're going to describe how we're feeling using a movie or TV title, maybe even from the 90s, early 2000s, because I know that's your vibe. But I was thinking about it because, you know, when people ask like, oh, how's it going? I, you know, when people say, I'm actually really shitty today.
Starting point is 00:06:41 I'm like, yes, let's talk about it. Let's get into it. And that has been me like yesterday, I, I mean, I think the whole world was feeling heavy and still to this day is feeling heavy with everything that's just had happened with the shooting and even just what happened in Buffalo was still waiting on me. And yesterday I could not get my shit together. I cried nonstop the whole day like from morning to night. I like, and today I actually woke up feeling sick to my stomach just because I'm like,
Starting point is 00:07:09 what is going on? And I was like, you know what? I'm going to have a great therapy with Rod. It's a good day. We're going to talk about how we're feeling. Here we are. And so I was thinking about what my movie title would be of how I'm feeling. And it is super bad.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Oh, because you're feeling super bad. I'm just feeling super bad. That's fine. But not badass, just super bad, like terrible. Yep. So mine is kind of similar just with everything going on. And I have so much personal shit happening right now that's like good. It's going to end up good. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:38 And I've been losing sleep over, like waking. Like, you know, it was like a scene from. movie you wake up in the night like you know like sweating um so i'm gonna go sleepless in seattle oh good one but yeah i'm like in sleepless in chicago it's okay but even like till up past like last night i didn't get i said just thinking about you know like everything that happened and so devastating it is and how the numbers keep going up it's just oof i don't know how like just the world you know with the world feels like so much pain lately together i feel like through the pandemic and then with all this happening like feel like something sadly
Starting point is 00:08:13 has to hit rock bottom for things to make a difference. And I, I'm like, please, it can't get worse than this. Like, it cannot. We are rock bottom in hell right now and we need to come out of it. And I'm like, I never really have been a political person. I always kind of like have avoided it. I'm like emailing my like government in Tennessee this morning. And you didn't even grow up in the US, right? No, I can't even vote here. I can't even vote as a U.S. citizen. And I'm still. still like getting freaking passionate about it. But yeah, I feel like lack of sleep, sleepless in Seattle. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:08:50 But I like that I like you, your attitude with seeing light at the end of the tunnel because it sounds like you're going through like some muddy waters, but you see light at the end of the tunnel. Yeah, a little quick stand. It feels like sometimes. But, you know, just like I'm giving, I'm 22, 22 is my growth year, you know, and I think that's my whole mentality, even if looking like the past two years of my life, like, you know, two years ago, I wouldn't be sitting in a podcast.
Starting point is 00:09:13 with you, you know, but it's, you're never too old to do something, whether it's a career change. And I tell my audience at all the time, because I could, hey, how do, is it too late for me to get a new job? It's like, like, why would it be? Like, you were, we're on a floating rock. I was talking to a friend about this last night. We're on a floating rock. We have 40, 50 years left on this earth at best. Why are you wasting with, you know, just doing something that doesn't make you happy? My gosh, it's so true. And I think, like, people get so obviously, it's so terrifying to make that big of a change in your life, like career or love or relationships to make huge changes. But if we can all agree on something, it's that the last two years of life have
Starting point is 00:09:56 gone by so fast. And the time that it can take to heal or go through those changes or come out of it the other side, think of it. Like two years is such a long time and such a short time at the same time where so much can change and so much can happen. And there's so much time for healing or working through things in two years. And if you do something now, if you're thinking about it and you do something now, think about in two years, you're going to look back and be like, holy shit, that time went by so fast. And I did something and I'm so happy I did it.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Yeah, that's so true. Time is fake. Yeah, time is messed up. Time is fake. It's manmade. It is manmade. And like, why can't we just sleep all day, you know, some days. I mean, I did that yesterday.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I took a mental health day yesterday. and a day won't you know isn't going to take away what happened in the world but like you need to take those days to just catch up on rest even if you're not physically sleeping like allowing your body and mind to just rest is such a huge thing and I know that you've built your brand on anxiety and mental health like you've built a brand on that that is so cool what do you do to help yourself when you're feeling anxious I just pause in the moment and I think what's the worst that can happen right you know and then it was actually my therapist has explained it more in depth but that's something my mom has told me since day one is even with my job like because i have and that's how it kind of
Starting point is 00:11:21 went viral because i was joking about this anxiety that it literally thought i was alone in of yeah i think my boss might fire me today for doing nothing wrong you know and then my head goes okay so my anxiety tells me that i'm getting fired what happens if i get fired you get a new job what if you can't get a new job i move back with my parents you know like but at the end of the day i'm still alive I was still like rise from the ashes. So that's just, I mean, you could call it spiraling, but you can you spiral until you can't spiral anymore. And then you just come out of it and then get back to whatever you're doing.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Yeah. And that's a good mindset to have like you have your parents, right? Like you could move in with them. Some people don't even have like there's always some sort of silver lining to look for. And I think that's so hard to do in the moment of feeling anxious. But like if you really do break it down, simple, what do I have in my life and what matters? Wait, what are your parents' names? Because I love to know this.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Oh, it's Rod. I'm a junior. Oh, you're a junior? Yeah, and Amber. Yeah. That's such a, like, young name. I know, right? Pisces and a Libra.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Oh, my gosh. Wait, is Rod? It's just Rod. Rodney. Rodney. Yeah, I like that. Like, there's only like five people in my life to call me Rodney. Really?
Starting point is 00:12:33 And is your mom one of them? No, they call me my nickname. My nickname's Bones, which my grandma gave that nickname to me. I know. Why are I going to cry? I'm so sensitive right now. What the hell? I don't even know what it means. And I'm like, no. I was a really skinny kid. So she called me bones. That was it. Oh my God. So now everyone calls me bones. My dad called me bone. That's a really cute nickname. Yeah, I love it. I love it. I'm actually getting a nickname came from. Beans. Beans because I was a little string bean. Oh, okay. And I don't know if you like really into beans. There's something. I just fucking love beans. I loved a big thing of baked beans. I just love the beans. That's where it all started.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I am really excited because I have a lot of fun travel plans coming up soon, like finally going to Canada after what feels like forever to see my found. Starting point is 00:16:01 But MGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with Eye Gaming Ontario. Now back to Off the Vine Grape Therapy. I want to back it up to you building a brand off just sharing your feelings and anxiety. So you said when you started posting, like you didn't know people were going to relate to this so hard? No, not at all. I was like, this is just me, whatever. God. And then I just kept going with like, okay, well, I'll throw another anxiety out there.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Like that if my password, if I can't change my password, that means that I'm fired, you know? And it's like people like, me. too. And I'm like, oh my God. So I just kept like dipping my toe until I was fully submerged in the corporate America anxiety water. And here we are. The internet's co-worker. Yeah. Wait, are you still in corporate America? Yeah. I pivoted. Now I work in marketing. So I was in sales for 10 years. And that's kind of like this mentality, like I said, of you, it's never too late to do anything. Because once you're in sales, I don't know, Jason was in finance, right? He was in Yes. But, yeah, but like even with finance, we were talking about this when he was on my podcast
Starting point is 00:17:02 that you feel so stuck in this corporate sphere of where you are. You graduate college and whatever you start doing, that's your trajectory and that's what you're going to do for the next 50 years. So I'll let's say, I thought I was going to be in sales for my entire life. And then all this happened. And I never thought I was creative. I never thought I was funny. And now I'm doing social media strategy, which is just like, who would have thought, you know? That's so awesome. Yeah. So I know you have your podcast. What is the like whole, concept of your podcast. Yeah, it's just like, you know, talking with my guests about like mental health topics. Like I talked with Jason about, you know, about his mental health in the
Starting point is 00:17:37 workplace, which was really refreshing because, you know, finance people have a certain, you know, trope about them of being just like go getters and like, you know, all this stuff. But so no one really talks about the mental health in that space. And so talking a lot about mental health and specific anxieties, like I said, but then we do a lot of millennial nostalgia peppered in in there because don't worry i've got some of that for you today good because at the end of the day your your anxieties are a result of past trauma you know where trauma at this age where is trauma you should happen when you're younger yeah that's where the nostalgia kind of comes into play
Starting point is 00:18:12 um and nostalgia is actually a therapy technique too so oh is it really yeah yeah so there if you that's another thing that people like that's why i build these playlists on spotify because my therapist said when you have anxiety you want to escape to a time where you want to weren't anxious. And usually when you weren't anxious in your childhood. So I have these like radio Disney playlist or these like college playlists of what I listened to part in college. I love when things are a little bit more carefree. Yeah, I love that. That's so true. Music just like moves my soul in so many different ways. It can make me cry. It can make me laugh. It can make me happy. It can make me mad. I can like when I work out, I listen to like
Starting point is 00:18:49 hardcore like avenged sevenfold like. And I'm just mad me walking on the treadmill. Oh, no. You should see me in the gym. Like on the bar, I was doing glute bridges with 225 pounds yesterday. Like, I am a beast in the gym. Well, yeah, it's amazing. It's so, it's, I just freaking love it. But you said earlier, and this surprises me that you didn't think you were creative or funny. Do you know you're funny now? I'll never think it, but I have the internet's validated, I guess. I'm very self-deprecating. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Sometimes they're so, the internet is so validating. And then sometimes they're like, they make you the most insecure. Do you get trolls? All the time. It's like, do it? How do you deal with it? I ignore it. Like, people will, like, there's a Reddit thread.
Starting point is 00:19:45 I'm like, I'm not reading it. Yeah, yeah. What is that? That's not going anywhere. Yeah. If I feed into it, I will, you know, like I said, the sleepless in Seattle. That's like, you know, I still sometimes wake up about things I've read on the internet.
Starting point is 00:19:56 You know, it's like, But I think it's just, my trolls more, I think people, since I came out hot the gates about my depression, anxiety, people feel bad if they told me, you know, it's more of just like toxic masculinity, like, suck it up or like, some dude the other day commented. He's like, don't be so dramatic with your sling. And I'm like, are you a medical professional? Like, I know. But I think for me, it's more of just people on the internet wanting to like know everything about your life when they know nothing. You know, and that's just like. You're kind of mysterious. Like you're a little bit. You've, we kind of are getting to know, Rod, me. Yeah. Bones. Bones. I feel like we're kind of getting to know you, especially now that you have a podcast, obviously people get to listen to more and get to know you.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Is that like something, do you want to like open up to the world or are you do like being a little mysterious? Yeah. I mean, there's definitely things about my life that I will want to, you know, share down the line and, you know, and hopefully others can relate. But right now it's just I'm coming into my own at 32, to be honest. I love that. big changes in my life and I'm just like hopefully people can respect that I'm not ready to share that yet and it's on my own time and so especially with TikTok and now just even when I started I don't think they had one minute videos they might have but now they have three minute videos so people are able to share more and more and more but you know my audience resonates with my seven to 15 second you know clips so yeah people think they know you off seven seconds of your life over and over and over and it's like you don't know and so
Starting point is 00:21:26 I think that's just the transition. It's not, like you said, with my podcast, I'm able to give people 30 to 40 minutes in my life and people like, well, you know, what is this? Which now my fear is I'm like, am I annoying to you? I feel that way all the time. I'm like, how are people, I feel like, how are people still listening to me? Aren't they so sick of me and annoyed at me? And like, I repeat myself sometimes.
Starting point is 00:21:47 I probably have the same jokes. I feel like I'm like, you know, when you have a roommate and you just hear them every day and you're just like, oh, my God, these little things start to annoy me. that's how I feel to my to my podcast listeners like I'm like are they starting to like get little like my little mannerisms starting to like annoy them my their annoying roommate probably not never once my life I've ever heard a bad thing about you so check the Reddit thread I was reading one of my favorite memes was are you okay no but I'm funny that's how I like that's how I think about my self sometimes like are you okay no but at least I'm funny even though
Starting point is 00:22:26 Have you had COVID? Three times. What? Three times. Yeah. And I took it serious masks. I did the gloves in the grocery store. I did it all.
Starting point is 00:22:35 So do you have any long lasting symptoms from COVID? That was the thing is it was all just really intense two week things, which I think I would rather have that than like lose my taste for five months, you know. I still can't taste ginger, diet Coke or anything artificially lime. Those three things, actually all soda, except for Diet Dr. Pepper. They all taste like I'm spraying perfume in my mouth. It's bizarre. So it's not even like tolerable.
Starting point is 00:23:02 It's like disgusting. I can't even like I used to people would be like, do you want some sushi with your ginger? I would put pounds of ginger on my sushi. I love ginger. And now I can't even have it touch my sushi because that's all I taste. Oh my God. I'm so sorry. But it's awful.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Thank you for your physical time. I'm so sorry, beans. Yeah. But it's awful. And I honestly, this is so dramatic, but I seriously think I'm not as funny anymore since COVID because I seriously think it's given me the worst brain fog that I'm not as quick as I used to be. And I'm like, am I even funny anymore?
Starting point is 00:23:41 There was like some studies done that, like that COVID was, you know, some side effects were anxiety and, you know, other things like that. But I do think that was just the also long-term effects of the world, like everything that was going on in the world. of time. Oh my gosh. It's the long-lasting COVID symptoms scare the crap out of me because I'm like, well, I ever taste ginger again. Can you taste wine? Because that would be very unfortunate if you. Yes. I did hear that some people, wine and coffee were two things that like, that was my friend. Yeah. Oh, I, no. I couldn't even talk like you were like, he didn't say perfume, but he just said he couldn't
Starting point is 00:24:16 tolerate the taste of coffee. Like, can you want that. No, I can't. I'm already on my second. Couldn't be me. Yeah. Yeah. No. Oh, yeah. You loved your, you love your, you love your ice. coffee. We've had these banters before where you're just such a iced coffee guy. And I'm like, no, hot coffee, even in 85 degree weather, hot coffee. Okay, well, let's go to happier times. Yeah. Take it back up. The 90s. The happiest time, the best time. I like, I don't, I wonder if that's just how people are like, my parents would be like, no, the 70s. And I'm like, no, the 90s. And then our general, are like, next year. I need to tell you something. What? I read an article in Mean Girls, where I think it was Katie was wearing her mom's skirt
Starting point is 00:24:57 and Regina goes, I love your skirt. Where'd you get it? She goes, thanks. It was my mom's in the 80s. And then she said that's so cute, vintage. If kids said that now, they would say, thanks, it was my mom's, my mom's in the 2000s. And then Regina George said, so cute, vintage. Oh, my God. Isn't that crazy? Don't you feel like the, like, Caitlin is going to be
Starting point is 00:25:18 like a barb one day? Like, that's, people are going to be like, oh my God, your name's Caitlin. Yeah, a bar. So I feel like my Caitlin will be the new barb one day like there's I mean everything comes back around which we're seeing trends now in the 90s so everything makes a comeback I needed to tell you because when you said barb I thought you met so Nikki Minaj calls her fan barbs. Yeah yeah that's what I thought you were talking about like you're going to be a ball okay pop off like yeah that's she should get a tattoo that says barbs because I got a tattoo right here that says
Starting point is 00:25:49 vinos oh great I need to come up in the name for mine but I think we're too early on we're too early on I want to give it. No, you're not. Wait, what's your podcast called again? Millennial made. Millennial made. Okay. Millennials.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Maybe they can be the maid maid maidens. The maidens. I like that. I don't know. That sounds a little bit like work and progress. That sounds a little bit like. Handmaids still. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Yeah. We don't want, yeah, we don't want to perpetuate that narrative. No, we don't. Okay. I know earlier you said that music like can help you feel nostalgic and like helping anxiety. What 90s moment or trend are you
Starting point is 00:26:28 feeling particularly nostalgic about lately? Like that's coming back you're saying? Yeah. I don't know in general. Like what's something 90s? I love lately I've been loving the whole disposable camera trend. It's like I'm loving the vibe. There's apps that make it look like disposable cameras, but I'm loving people just take
Starting point is 00:26:46 and I know that it's like, I know I joke around with my audience like, oh my God, we're so old, like, mad, but I'm like, I'm loving it. Yeah, absolutely loving. I was a good one. I was at a lunch the other day though and I saw a very specific flash and I was like that's not an iPhone flash and I turned around
Starting point is 00:27:00 and this girl had a point and shoot camera and it was like one of the really chunky ones you know the digital cameras that you would get at like Target yeah and she was like her friend goes what is that? And I was like first of all the conversation just kept getting more terrifying and she goes
Starting point is 00:27:16 oh it's this like camera it's like vintage camera and the coolest part is there's a cord that plugs it into your computer and you could download the pictures right onto your computer And I'm like, yeah, like, that's what we have an iPhone now. So you don't have to do that. Like, what? It made no sense.
Starting point is 00:27:31 I was like, all right, I guess. So it's like more for the aesthetic or the, you know. It's, do you know what? I saw my niece wearing the other day. And I was like, oh, my gosh, at that age, I did the same thing. Rolled, um, pajama pants, like the plaid pajama pants and you roll them at the top and then wear like a shirt and you're like the pajama vibes where it got cool for a minute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:51 I think that's bad. Like the Sophie shorts, too, are coming back. What are they? Sophie shorts, like, you know, the shorter cotton shorts. The people would do the same thing. Like in gym class, they'd roll those up. Yes. Those are coming back to.
Starting point is 00:28:02 What, I mean, it's, you can't relate to this because you probably never wore low cut jeans. Every time, like, those are really coming back. I'm scared that thin eyebrows are coming back. They are. I think, but Bella Hadid has just jumped on the, I'm going to do anything and everything to terrify millennials. She did, she did side bangs are coming back, the eyebrows, low-rise jeans. the chunky Steve Madden platform, he'll...
Starting point is 00:28:26 What about chunky, like, blonde and brunette hair, like, the chunk? People, well, unfortunately, people still wear that. Oh, my gosh. Wait, I bless her heart, my sister does. And, but I kind of love it about her because she's such a, like, she's just always been herself and, like, it's so true to her. It's like, at the time, they found something they liked and they felt confident in. That's my whole thing with it.
Starting point is 00:28:50 It's just like, if, like, when I see someone and I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I hate, personally, I hate red carpet, whatever it's called, like, police or whatever, because I'm like, imagine, like, feeling so confident in your life and what you look like and you step onto a red carpet and then you just know the internet's going to tear you apart. Oh. But the same goes to, like, people in their everyday lives just like to wear something, what are it? What does it matter? Hey, that was me.
Starting point is 00:29:13 And I've brought this up on my podcast a few times. But I got put on the worst dress list for the CMAs when I first came off the show. So, like, six years ago, I was walking. the red carpet for the CMAs. And I felt so good about myself. I like wore this dress that I thought was so beautiful. And I thought it was like so country vibes. And it was like it was definitely a beach dress. It was not a red carpet dress. But I didn't know any better because it was my first probably red carpet ever or second. And I had like jewelry and shoes from like Aldo. And I was just like I am a vibe right now. Like a country music.
Starting point is 00:29:53 queen and i was walking the red carpet and then i got put on the worst dress list and i was like and everybody was just commenting like is she going to the beach or the red carpet and then like i remember somebody asking me like what are you wearing and i was like i don't know i just it was in my closet and it was like you didn't go out and buy a $5,000 dress for this event that i didn't get spoiler alert award shows are fun but they you'd sit in the audience like you went at a concert it's like nothing nothing special i wasn't performing i was yeah literally I was actually overdressed, if you ask me. Especially the CM.
Starting point is 00:30:27 The CMAs, people are ripping you apart. Like, well, they're probably wearing their gas station t-shirts, which, shout out to Elise Myers. She loves her gas station t-shirt. God, I love her. I just, she's one of the, like, most authentic coolest. I can't get over her. Like, she makes me cry on a daily basis just because I'm like, she's changing my life.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Yeah. She, and I think for her, like, her and I talk about very similar things. And Jonas has even become a friend of mine. Like, they're just, yeah, they're very, like I said, everything going on in my life. They've just, like, been more personal friends, too. So it's been really cool to have internet friends that become real friends. I feel like she's one of the ones where, like, she's an internet friend who, like, really does feel like a friend on the internet.
Starting point is 00:31:08 But in real life, like, I feel like I can trust her and talk to her about personal things. And I'm going to get, like, the most genuine advice. Yeah, like, you can get dinner with her. And it's not like, let's make a collab. It's like, a, like. Check you in. Yeah. And those are the best friends.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I've made on the internet. One of my best friends, name is Andrew. We've made, we've been best friends for almost two years, and we've made one video together. Yeah. Just because it's like, that's not, yeah, it's like, that's not what. Because there's people, and it's fun to collaborate and it's fun to do those things. But also, when you meet real people, you hang on to them because they don't come by very often. And when they do, like, you almost don't want to do the collab stuff with them because you're like, wait, this is a genuine friendship. Yeah, of course. Yeah. And it's like, and friendship will surpass the internet, you know.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Totally. always always yeah okay i'm not going to lie i had a lot of fun working out today i know that sounds crazy but i was riding the old peloton bike and i swear it never lets me down i did a 90s pop ride this morning but they had so many that i need to take and they even had a harry styles ride with music from his new album my gosh so good peloton has a team of world-class instructors who are ready to motivate you 24-7 so no matter what your fitness level is they will help you get to where you want to be. This is off the vine, grape therapy. Do you say Jiff or GIF? I used to say Jeff, but now I say GIF because I got corrected so many times. Same. Wait, I heard that Gifts and emojis are out. Oh, not as...
Starting point is 00:35:08 What? Out, yep. And it's really unfortunate because we just got a bunch of great new emojis. Yeah. wait I don't know if I can get on board with that if you look at gifts too it's like a lot of millennial it's just a lot of millennial shows and all that you know it's like my favorite gifts are the I love New York gifts
Starting point is 00:35:24 did you watch a show? No I love New York I don't think we have it was well I don't know it's very you should watch it it's like it's kind of like the bachelorette is basically um yeah this girl named New York just had a like it was like a remember flavor of love yeah yeah she was on that show and then she got her own yeah exactly so she got her own spin off Oh, wait, what's her name?
Starting point is 00:35:44 Tiffany Pollard. I actually do, was she the one where she had, like, women and men on that. That was tequila, tequila. Oh, yeah, tequila. Yeah. That's, which all this is all nostalgia, too. So we're really diving in. That's like, I remember watching, really 2000s.
Starting point is 00:35:59 I remember watching Tequila and swear to God, I was like, I think I might be a lesbian because I was like so into her female relationships. And I was like, I believe in this love. Yeah. Take note's Bachelor. Bachelor. Yeah, for real. My gosh. Talk about like what's coming in and what's going out.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Bachelor just consistently stays. Somehow, it is so funny because I'm like, people ask me, no offense to you, but people, because I just started watching during that season. I think I told you in person,
Starting point is 00:36:33 but I watched one Pablo's season and then that's the only season I watched because I had a crush on Andy. And then start watching Matt season. People like, why do you like, what do you like about the Bachelor? I'm like, I don't even know.
Starting point is 00:36:42 I think I just am more obsessed with the fan base. Yes. I have a friend who is like very, like when I did your live show, I told her, like, I didn't, I just don't update people on things like that. She goes, why didn't you tell me doing Caitlin's live show? And she was like, bang grilling so hard. And I'm like, she's a cool person, you know. But she listens to your podcast next.
Starting point is 00:37:01 She like listens to five bachelor podcasts a week. And I know you're not a bachelor podcast, but, you know, like sometimes I am. Exactly. And there's so many out there and like the investment in the relationship. And I like sometimes read through the comments. I'm good friends with Rick now. And like sometimes I get his comments and he just like has a devote following. Like this is just fascinating.
Starting point is 00:37:20 People find their buying their person through that franchise and they are loyal to you for life. Yes. Like it's it's pretty incredible. I've seen it with Natalie from Love is Blind and we hang out in person here in Chicago. But even just like the things that people come up to her and like I really admire how you handled your relationship. And she's like, thanks. You know, it's like people just are like. like so invested in these TV shows.
Starting point is 00:37:44 But then it also kind of goes back to maybe they relate. You know, it's like maybe they had a bad break. Right. Maybe they, like, admired how you handled an exit from the show or something like that, you know. That's how I think it is because, and I always say this, it's, we're just like real people who are relatable to people at home. We're not like actresses or actors or people that have been in the spotlight. We're just like, we're working our restaurant jobs yesterday.
Starting point is 00:38:06 And now we're like on a huge national platform the next day. And it's just like, it is relatable because you're like, oh, I could see myself in you. Yeah. I think that's what has been great about TikTokers, too, is because I think a lot of musicians that's kind of coming out and I don't like TikTok, but a lot of Hollywood doesn't like TikTok is because they feel like they had to fight and do all this stuff to get to where they are. I know comedians hate TikTok because they're seeing people go more viral and get more well-known
Starting point is 00:38:34 for doing seven-second clips where they've been, I've been doing Sam for 10 years. Yeah. It's like, take advantage then. like be yourself yeah that's what i think too it's like but you can do it too like yeah like no one's stopping you yeah it's like the world feels like there's there needs to be a process for things like i did and this isn't deflects but i did that dune movie premiere i went to to london and did the movie for dune got to interviewed zendaya Rebecca Ferguson it was so cool and so it's such a good experience but they were like they i shouldn't say this no say it
Starting point is 00:39:05 i want to get asked back but they were like um they said just don't say that you're from TikTok and I'm like yeah like yeah so I don't know if um Hollywood just isn't about that vibe or not but which is I mean I think uh I think back to like I don't want to say old bachelors I mean like older given the times they felt that same way like oh my gosh I did the exact same thing and I was it but now I don't have the platform that this person has because it wasn't in the right time and it's like well there's a blessing and curse to everything yeah literally it's like overnight overnight fame no one prepares you for no one prepares you for do you think tic talk is like the hottest app right now oh 100% and do you think it's going to
Starting point is 00:39:51 stay that way for a while because instagram keeps trying to like do some weird shit but well i think kind of like we were going back to like a lot of the bachelor bachelor bachelor audience will be on instagram because of the age a lot of millennials are terrified of new apps i don't think instagram's going anywhere because yeah even as millennials if you look at like we had Zenga, MySpace, Snapchat, Facebook, but then to Instagram, people are like, no, people are getting off Instagram. It's like, no one's getting off Instagram. It's just the new cool app because my mom's still on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:40:22 My grandma's still on Facebook. You know, so it's like that, like, I think that it's just the age gets certain pockets. And so social media has found out ways to retain a certain age group in that sphere. That's so true. I wanted to ask you what you think is. is hot and pop culture right now. And what you think of Courtney Kardashian's wedding is basically what I'm getting at.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Okay. I weirdly, so my, and I was, I'm glad you asked. I'm glad you asked this. I've been dying to talk about it. No. I love it. My guilty pleasure is the Kardashians. Same. Even though they have the opposite mentality of me is like, get your ass up and work.
Starting point is 00:41:01 I'm like, no sleep. If you want to sleep, like, take care of yourself. She got a lot of backlash for that. She did. That wasn't meant for everyone. It's like, well, it was. you talk to everyone in the world. Yeah, everyone listening. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:12 But I has always been my guilty pleasure show. I watch it and I'm like, I want to hang out with them. I want to eat salads with them, but I want to show up looking like this with my eyes classy. Like, I don't want to be glammed up. And I just think that would be so much fun. Yeah. But all the let's say, I love the Kardashian wedding situation that just has to like that.
Starting point is 00:41:33 I loved it. I loved as far as like I used to work in fashion, as far as a fashion woman, Bolshe and Gabana hosting a whole thing. and outfitting everyone, the little snippets they got. And, of course, you know, Chris Jenner's a PR mastermind. So she probably had Travis's kids go live. And we were getting snippets and little sneak peeks rather than doing like a people exclusive. And here's everything they wore.
Starting point is 00:41:53 It's like, no, we saw it real time. I love the little details of Travis Barker's tattoo being on the veil. Did you know that? Yes, I did. So all that say, I really did like that. I was such a good vibe. I will say, Courtney, used to be my favorite on the older seasons, just because I feel like she was just the most like, whatever, real, whatever.
Starting point is 00:42:11 But now she's my least favorite out of them is because she's just, I don't know, it's not because of her and Travis or anything like that. And I still enjoy it. I'm obsessed with Travis. But yeah. Yeah. I think it was just more of like, we've just gotten so much of her shoved down her throat lately that it's like.
Starting point is 00:42:25 It's so true. See, but they make me feel nostalgic because I was such a Blink 182 fan and I like loved the like emo phase. And I'm like, oh my gosh, they remind me of like what I used to want in a relationship back in my emo phase and I like so you were an emo girl yes I was and I always had a crush on Travis always yeah because the shirtless drummer why would you not yeah what was your my space song do you know a song died on your my space yes um gold something um what's that band gold um but I know my name on my space was Tits McGee yes of course it was why would it not be
Starting point is 00:43:02 why would it not be oh that's gonna drive me nuts with that oh shoot I'm Sorry. You probably can't look up MySpace pages anymore. You can't. No, Justin Timberlake bought MySpace and then made it like a music streaming platform. Oh my gosh. That guy is actually like a really like brilliant, like business man. They are.
Starting point is 00:43:25 And they do you know who else is that is underrated and he's my king and I love him forever. Lance Bass. Brilliant businessman. He has a production company. He owns half of West Hollywood. He like he just, he took the in sync thing and he's like, you know what? I don't use a whole career. I am just going to live my life,
Starting point is 00:43:40 but I'm going to do all these other things. And he's like, little entrepreneur. Stuff with Lisa Banner Pump. Yeah, we love him. Yeah, I really do. Lance, well,
Starting point is 00:43:47 obviously, Justin, those two were my favorite. I died when Elise was talking about how she had a crush on Lance because I did too. And I was like, oh, my God, I didn't do.
Starting point is 00:43:56 And you were heartbroken, yeah. Yeah. She said Clay Aiken, too. I'm like, Clay Aiken was a hilarious one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:02 She had a crush on Clay Aiken. Just like, she would. That's so funny. you know what a show I'm actually so happy is back is so you think you can dance oh so good and the fact that they still have cat hosting it she was the best she's so good so good I remember when remember when some dog nillioner came out yes one of my feel good YouTube videos it's like on my YouTube playlist is still the dance that two people did to Jai Ho I know exactly what you're talking yeah because they did that like because even with you know with ballwood dancing like the hand movements are really important you know so they did like they incorporated the hand movements and like it's such a vibe and I'm like yeah like yeah like like I watch sometimes get myself pumped up. Oh my gosh. Same.
Starting point is 00:44:40 What shows are you into right now? They're Kardashians. Yeah. They're new one. Yeah. I do. I love how they just drug out Kim's S&L journey into five episodes. I'm like, all right.
Starting point is 00:44:51 I was so there for it. Yeah, I know. We, I was watching the Kardashians, the new season. And, you know, when Kim is like really involved with, um, Caitlin. No, um, Scott. Scott. Yeah. Scott.
Starting point is 00:45:06 It was Scott. Because I'm like, yeah, it's so confused. Is that Scott's on the phone? I'm like, why is she talking to Scott about this? Yes. So Scott, I was just with in Miami for the F1 race. And I had no idea who he was. But he, I really like enjoyed talking to him because he was there with these three guys. And for some reason, I, in a room full of like freaking Michelle Obama and David Beckham,
Starting point is 00:45:27 I like sat next to these three guys who I was like so invested in their story. And they were like just so humble and kind and asked questions. I said to him, what's your story? And he goes, well, I just got out of prison for 16 years. And Scott helped us, and he's bringing us on this trip. And I was like, oh, my gosh. And then they were on our sprinter van on the way there and back. And I just like started being friends with them.
Starting point is 00:45:50 And I'm watching Kardashians. And I'm like, Scott's there with Kim. And I was like, Scott. We just had dinner. It was so crazy. And then I was like so invested in Kim's like law journey and everything. Wait, I need to confess something. This isn't my confession, but I cried when she, when she passed the bar.
Starting point is 00:46:10 I did. I did too, actually. I got like, well, I was in a crying mood that day, too, so anything would have thrown me off. But I, too, cried when she passed because I really didn't think it was going to happen. No, you know, and I don't think that would have showed up. And the best part was she was just, she took, I think North wanted to go to Red Lobster. So she took her into Red Lobster. Doesn't it if they were in the parking lot of Red Lobster.
Starting point is 00:46:31 And I'm like, okay, like, go off. Yeah, I too. I was, Red Lobster was like, yeah. Yeah, I know they're like, yeah, product placement. Now everyone's going to go to Red Lobster. There's only like one in L.A. Yeah, but I bet they have lineups now knowing that King Kardashian goes there. Yeah, there's no chilies in L.A., which is really depressing. Okay, wait, I totally, we got off track.
Starting point is 00:46:52 You, Kardashians, obviously. I am really bad where I don't watch new shows. I just rewatch old shows. Like, I get that. Unless it's like, when something's really hot topic, I don't know why, but I stray away from it. besides the Kardashians, I just started watching for the first time, Desperate Housewives. I'd never watch that show. Oh, I've never watched it either, and Jason loved it.
Starting point is 00:47:13 It is insane. And I just like, I don't know, it's just very early 2000s, the fashion and everything that they're doing, the decor in the house. Totally. They thought they were modern at the time, but then it's like stuff that you would buy, you know, like at home goods 20 years ago. So I'm really viving with that show right now. Well, now you just got me thinking about confessions. So I want to know what your actual confession is. Okay, I haven't talked about this to anyone.
Starting point is 00:47:36 Oh, honey. So I, this was like early on, this was like 2013. So this is like right when dating apps started coming around. And Tinder was the first one, like the only one at the time. And I went on a date with this girl. Yeah. And we were like really excited to meet up, all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:48:00 We went to dinner. And I like to be gentlemen, no matter who I'm going on. out with you know and you know so we're talking i'm saying like just like a normal conversation and then as the night goes on she just like keeps getting like like weirder and weirder and it was like a progressive weirdness which i'm like i was replaying the conversation my head am like am i saying anything weird no i'm not i drop her off and then i was like i would love to do this again she goes um oh you know and i was like oh okay and i was like man i was super bummed because I thought we were viving at first.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Oh, no. And then I go back and, like, I was like, did I say something in our conversation before meeting up? And I, because that was the beginning of the dating app. So you're talking to most people. I was calling her the wrong name the whole night. You're kidding me. It's not even, I didn't even have her, I'm just really bad with names in general. Same. Like, if your name is Laura, I'm calling you Lori. I'm sorry. Like, that's just like how my brain functions. Why didn't she call you out? Exactly. exactly. So I was like, oh, shit. And I was like, I apologized. And like, hey, sorry. And she goes, it's fine. We didn't meet up again. It was like, whatever. But that was my most embarrassing. Like I so it's like one of those things that are you like working or something and you like, you just have a cringe because you think of your most embarrassing moment. That that is probably mine. Because out there, out there, maybe she sees my videos now too. And she's like, that's the guy who called me the wrong name. Oh my gosh. See, if somebody was calling me the wrong name on a date, I'd be like, yo, it's Caitlin. Yeah. Catherine. Exactly. And then you can like, you can have a moment to recover or whatever. Or you can laugh about it and like kind of bond over it and be like, oh my God, funny.
Starting point is 00:49:39 It's so cringing about it. I hate those. I hate the cringe. I have a lot of those, but I've talked about all of them on my podcast. I have one that I was like, I probably shouldn't share this with Rod, but this is more for my audience because, so I don't know if you know this, but a lot of women like to take a mirror and look at their vagina. I've heard about this. Okay. So I've never done that. Okay. And I was talking my best friend was in town this last week. And she was like, you've never done it. She goes, don't talk to me until you've gone to the bathroom and done this and come back to talk about it. And I was like, I'm not going right now. She was like, no. And she made me go to the bathroom and take a mirror and look. And I was so scared of what I was going to see. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:50:21 I'm 36 and I've never done this before. Yeah. And I did it. And I'm very proud of myself. And it was exactly what I thought it was going. Obviously, don't go into detail. But like, what was the point of it is it just to like get a different angle of it or like i mean yeah we've got normalized looking up your own vagina i don't know i think it's it's like something that you can see your stuff down there you can't oh have you ever taken a mirror no maybe i should can i text you after is that appropriate okay you can text me after and tell me about it maybe just for vis i'll just put jason in a group chat too so he knows i don't think i told jason that i did this He thinks so many things I do are so bizarre.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Like, he laughs at me like, I love you guys. He'll literally be like, your brain is so weird. And I'm like, I know. And that's why you guys work. He laughs at me all the time because of how my, my brain just functions completely different than his in every way possible. Love it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Oh, gosh. I love that you're looping in Jason for visibility. Yeah. But that's a good thing. No context here, but guess what? Yeah. He's coming to Chicago in a couple weeks. We're hanging out.
Starting point is 00:51:38 So I'm going to surprise my sister for her 40th birthday to go to Edmonton, Canada, where I grew up. Oh, that's amazing. It's going to be so fun. My whole family is going to be at this, like, Le Duke Hall that I grew up going to parties at. And it's going to be so much fun. My sister, like, has no idea. and she thinks my mom is at like a golf tournament that she can't make it. And she knows that I'm coming to to Edmonton in June.
Starting point is 00:52:08 So I'm like, we'll celebrate in June when I'm there. Like I can't come to Edmonton all the way. That's a long-ass flight. Yeah. Oh, it's not close. And so I'm so excited. Oh, that's amazing. Yeah. It's going to be really fun.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Okay. To wrap this up, trying to stick with your brand here. So I decided for a little game, we're going to do some BuzzFeed quizzes. Oh, yeah. Did you know BuzzFeed Millennials a term now? It's like a category of millennials. Yeah. You're kidding me. It's like it's pretty synonymous with Facebook millennials, I would say. You know, it's like the people who would watch tasty videos, which I still watch those. I love them. They're so good. You know, those like food videos that went viral on Facebook. It's like, here's banana bread hot dogs. And it's like, oh, yum. You know. Banana bread hot dog. Wait, I'm hungry. All of a sudden my tummy's rumbling banana bread hot dogs. still like i follow the food network on instagram and it's probably my favorite account to follow i grew up so like i you know i talk a lot about you know like masculinity and the things i lied about growing up
Starting point is 00:53:07 in order to like fit in and one of them was sports you know i was like yeah i love sports and i hated it my friends were watching ESPN and i'm watching food network rachel ray 30-minute meals giata the whole giata bobby fly drama i was in that it's like that's my shit i love it oh my gosh look at this first question this this quiz is called are you a soft millennial or a hard millennial great don't know what that means yeah the first question is do you prefer hot or iced coffee obviously ice okay obviously are you more productive at night or during the day night me too are you currently following your dreams yes yes we love that Does it bother you that people associate avocados with millennials?
Starting point is 00:54:00 Yes. I don't like avocado toast, hot take. You don't? No. It's like, whatever. I don't like, but no offense, people who do, but it's just like, it's a lot at once, a lot of avocado at once for me, is not the bad. It's all about the ratio of the bread to the avocado,
Starting point is 00:54:17 and then you slice some tomatoes on there with some sesame seeds. I have had it with pesto, and it's really good. But then when you have the thick, thick sourdough bread, which I love sourd, I'm like, I can't even eat this. Yeah, yeah, that's fair. Okay, so. No, that's fair. That's a fair.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Hot take. Did you ever get a participation award? Yeah. Oh, same. Does social media make you feel sad? Yes. Okay, wait, you have options. Yes, no, only sometimes.
Starting point is 00:54:45 And then the other option is I don't use social media. Only sometimes. Okay, only sometimes. Do you live in a city? Yes. Right. Okay, you're a soft millennial. you're sensitive and caring you have a lot of empathy sometimes too much empathy you wish you could
Starting point is 00:55:01 turn your feelings off sometimes because it's a lot even though you feel overwhelmed by the negativity of life it doesn't stop you from hoping for things to get better what the fuck um i'm gonna can't therapy an hour and a half from canceling it now like that was like all i needed today was a buzzfeed quiz to just nail you right to rock my world yeah my gosh that cut right to the I'm healed. I'm healed in my depression. Yeah. Didn't need to go to church today, but. Yeah, Miraculous was racing the dead. Yeah. Wow. Amen. Okay. Now, I'm in. Okay. Now, he's risen. The battle is won.
Starting point is 00:55:40 Wow. That was really, uh, I don't think we can go anywhere, but we're ending it on the high note there. Up by Shania Twain, yeah. That's my Canadian queen. Shania and Celendian. Do you want to go to her residency with me? Yes. In Vegas? She's going, she's doing it again. in September we're going we should go oh my god that would be we'll tear up the town let's do it let's like try and get like really in too like let's like get backstage passes and like hug her yeah well i did that already wait how did you do that i feel like this they uh her team just i would like you know i was obsessed with her so like do you want to come and like yes absolutely and i brought my mom and i because my mom
Starting point is 00:56:21 and i grew up listening she and i twain you know oh yeah that's one of my first memory of like my sister starting to date was Shania Twain's first album coming out and we went to a wedding and my sister met a boy named Liam there and they like slow danced to Shania Twain still the one and I'm like Wait, do you see? I think Jojo and Jordan danced
Starting point is 00:56:44 to still Shania Twain for their wedding. Oh really? I'll need to go back and look. I didn't watch that much from their wedding. To be honest, Jordan just followed me randomly And I'm like, oh, okay, I'll fall back. And then I was like, oh, wait, this is the guy. This is Jojo's guy. Follow for a fall.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Oh, file for my space. Like for like. Wait, I'm still got to, I got to figure out my MySpace song and text you. We have homework. Okay, we're going to end this podcast and we have homework. Take a mirror to your ball sack. Yeah. And what was the last one I just said?
Starting point is 00:57:19 Your MySpace song, yeah. Oh, my space song. Yeah. Easy to get lost at that. Oh, my gosh. tell everyone where to follow you on TikTok and your podcast and all the things. TikTok is Rod. ROD.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Instagram's Just Me, Rod, and I have, like, links. But my podcast is on YouTube. I think that's the best way to watch because we do a lot of visual stuff. But then you can also stream it anywhere you stream podcasts and it through Dear Media, which we love.
Starting point is 00:57:43 That's okay. I need everybody to leave a comment for this podcast if I should do YouTube content. You would crush it. You have to be, it's like a little more high production, though. That's okay. I'm like a little bit, word lately because i i was like hosting stuff and doing dancing with the stars and now i'm like
Starting point is 00:58:01 well i have time now and now guess what i have time and a wine company so there you go yeah which we love spade it can i just tell you sorry i know this is we're done here but spade and sparrows wine so good i know i you don't have to tell me i thank you um a great mold wine with it in the winter and It's so good. I made a white sangria with it. And I drank it plain. Like, you can do anything. It's so good. I, okay, thank you for saying that because I truly, like, it's one of the only wines I drink. I'm obsessed with it. And I sent my, this always makes me sound so boozy, but I sent my assistant. She works at a country club, too. And she brought wine to the Somalia there. And he said it was the best rosé he's ever had. I haven't had your rosé yet. Oh, well, it's on the way. Say less. Drink of the summer. Yes. Say less.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Well, we're going to, next time I'm in Chicago, I'll bring rosé, and then we'll plan our Shania trip. Yes, can't wait. Okay. You're the best.
