Hello and welcome to Oh What a Time.
Hello to all of the O Water Time listeners.
This is an emergency broadcast.
Now, obviously, our listeners,
tend to make up the elite, the liberal elite.
And I know for a fact that almost all of our listeners read the sort of the insider podcast magazines.
They go to all the big podcasting conferences.
They go to all the big podcasting conferences and they read all of the industry audio magazines.
And they will know from reading industry audio magazines and having them sort of landing on the mat every month.
With a heavy thump. It's a big magazine, isn't it?
Because you're all reading the industry podcast magazines, you will know that Wondry, the podcast platform that hosts, oh, what a time, has decided to cease its UK operations, which, I'm sure you can understand, is a right, bloody good laugh.
It's good, it's good fun.
So they emailed us and they said, we're no longer going to be operating in the UK.
and so all of the podcasts are now technically homeless.
I mean, they didn't quite phrase it like that, but still.
So we don't get anyone to host this at the moment,
which is, as I said, hilarious and I love it, and I'm glad.
Ideal, and I'm glad.
Exactly what I needed.
I think the listeners might want some extra contact here.
I'm going to use a historical analogy.
This is a podcasting Dunkirk.
Yeah.
This is the podcasting fall of Rome
This is the podcasting Battle of Britain for us
But worse
The Queen Mother is walking around
Inpecting the damage done to oh what a time
So what you're saying, Chris, is
This could be our finest hours
What we need now is Tom to go into the houses of Parliament
And give a thumping speech
About how, oh what a time will rise from these ashes
Yeah
This is the kind of speech that is going to be
quoted by people
a hundred years from now
so Tom
take it away
so I don't know
that by heart
so it's quite hard for me
to sort of twist
and tweak the words of Churchill
yeah
but what I will say about Churchill
is that obviously
he was dealing with quite a pressurized situation
but what he wasn't having to deal with
was the invasion of the Nazis
was quite a
to pressurized
what he wasn't
having to deal with
was bringing up two young children
which is something all of us
are having to do.
If I've got a
bloody do it myself, okay?
I would say to our listeners
as I said to those
who've joined our Patreon
I've got nothing to offer
but blood, toil,
tears, sweat,
bonus episodes
every month,
early access to live
shows,
Meanwhile, listeners should prepare themselves for hard and heavy tidings.
I have only to add that nothing may happen in this podcast battle
can in any way relieve us of our duty to defend podcasting,
history podcasting with a humorous bent to which we have vowed ourselves
nor should it destroy our confidence in our power to make good history podcasts
as on former occasions through disaster and through grief to the ultimate defeat of our enemies.
Now, we don't want the ultimate defeat of our enemies, by the way.
That's too much.
Keep listening to our enemies.
Because, you know, a healthy podcast community is good for everyone.
Yes, absolutely.
Don't hunt down whatever you do, Dan Snow, in the street.
He's got nothing to do with this.
That's the last thing we want you to do.
So if you've interpreted that Churchillian speech, both of them, well, you may understand where this is heading.
So we no longer have a subscription platform with Wondery
and we're also going to be moving off another slice
in the very near future.
What we're going to do instead is put all of our subscription benefits,
all of the oh water timeful timers,
are instead going to be consolidated into one amazing patron experience.
And this is the medium through which this show will be saved.
This is the boats pulling up on the donkey,
Dunkirk features to save the podcasting experience.
So now head to patreon.com forward slash oh what a time.
But you don't have to see there what you're going to get.
I'm going to explain it to you right now.
It's genuinely exciting as well, I think.
There's some great benefits here.
We've thought long and hard for this.
And not only are they great benefits,
there are great benefits immediately while we secure the main feed future of oh, what a time.
So here's how you can support the show, save Tom, Ellis and I,
And also, Jody, our amazing editor and our historian, Dr. Daryl Lee Worthy.
So here are the tiers that are available for you on patreon.com forward slash oh water time.
The oh what a time part timer tier.
And on here, you'll get main feed episodes before anyone else.
And you'll also get all the main feed episodes ad free.
And then we've got our middle tier, which is the oh, what a time, full timer tier that you know and love.
On here you'll get everything in the first tier
plus the full archive of bonus content
you'll get the two bonus episodes every month
you'll get early access to live show tickets
and you're also going to get access to
and this is exciting the oh what a time group chat on Patreon
which we have all agreed we're going to be contributing to
in the very near future
and then finally we're introducing a new subscription tier
for the ultimate oh what a time fans
and this is called the oh water time
all-timer tier.
Great names. Love it love. And for these
fans who support the show, you're going to get all the
benefits I've just described. Plus, you're going to get
a priority inbox for
listener correspondence. Once a month,
at the very least, you will
pick the topics that we explore
on Oh What a Time. And we will big you up
at the beginning of that episode. We will give you full
praise for this being your idea for
this episode. And then also,
probably the best benefit of all.
If you sign up to become an O-Water Time
All-Timer and save the show,
me Ellis and Tom will riff on your name as we quite frequently do
and imagine where in history you might have been
so there's all the tears that's how you can save the show
oh what a time.com for all your options but patron now is the future
but I want to just throw in a few more added benefits if you do it right now
so if you sign up right now I know you were probably listening to this
hoping that the return of oh what time would be Monday 29th September
but for the reasons we've just described
we're pushing it back slightly to Monday the 13th of October is now the proper start date
are back on the main feed hopefully we've got our house in order by then but if you can't wait
and you want the two new episodes that will launch our new series which are technophobia and memorials
you will get those right now if you become an oh what a time full time or above
plus you've got Stonehenge which is the subscriber episode we just released and you're going to get
in the next couple of weeks all quiet on the western front which is another bonus episode
and then from this point on all the bonus episodes
and all the early release, everything is going to be on Patreon.
However, there is an introductory offer
that we're giving you to thank you for sticking with us
and also to thank you for saving the show
and that is what we're going to give you 25% off discount
for your first month.
And Tom, what is that discount code?
That discount code, it could only be one word, custom.
It had to be custard.
It custard, in so many ways, is the gift that keeps on giving.
And once again, it's come up trouble.
Well done.
So type in custard, 25% off your first month.
And also, Chris, live show.
If you're a full-timer or an all-timer, you will get first dibs on live tickets.
And there is going to be our first live show before the end of this year to make it clear how official this is.
Here is something I sent to my agent this week, just to wet your appetite.
It's the tech requirements of a show.
Go, ready?
I'd have your reaction to each of these, how excited you are.
Four times seats, three for hosts, one for guest.
Oh, nice.
Four times wired mics.
That's good.
I also suggest some old-fashioned we are
that we've gone wired mic in 2025.
Well, you know, I actually prefer a wired mic to a headset mic.
I feel safer.
I feel safer, yeah.
I feel rooted to the stage.
A screen for images.
Oh, that's a big one.
a screen for people to
so you can look at things in the show
some historical some sexual
the visual medium absolutely
what word is more fun than the word
lectern
there's going to be a lectern
the show logo and also
and this is professional to the end
a tech someone doing music lights
levels someone who actually knows their way
around Fadis so it's going to be a quality show
but genuinely our first live show
will be happening before the end of
2025 and you if you're in one of
those two tiers will have first dibs on those tickets.
So there we go.
It's in the hands of the great British public
and do so, our international listeners.
So there we have it.
I mean, this is not just happened to us.
This is up to lots of other podcasts.
But Wondry of ceased trading in the UK,
and so we're looking for another home.
So if you'd like to support the work we do in all the time,
it would be very, very much appreciated.
and head to Patreon.
One final soundbite from me, to quote Tony Blair,
I can feel the hand of history on our shoulder.
I can feel the hand of history podcasting on my shoulder.
Thank you so much for listening.
And thank you to all those who are no doubt going to help us save the show.
Don't forget, the 25% of code is custard.
Head to ohwattatime.com for all the links.
And we will be back on Monday,
the 13th of October or right now if you choose to support us via Patreon. We'll see you very soon.
Love you all. Bye. Goodbye.
