Hi guys, welcome back to another episode of on display. I am so happy to be here. I know
we had a little break and I had an amazing trip in Italy to say the least, but I missed
you guys and I did promise you guys when I got back, we're going to do a super fun episode
today behind the scenes episodes. So I'm really excited for this episode
because this podcast has been a ton of fun since it started.
I've had such great chats with a lot of really great people,
but there's someone that hides behind the scenes to make this all happen all the time.
And today we're going to bring him on display.
It's going to be a little behind the scenes episode with my producer,
Brett. Okay, there's also going to be a sprinkle. Hold on. There's going to be a sprinkle
of Joe Gorga in here too. I've been on this like 25 time. Brett's never been on it.
And there you go. Exactly. So I'm right here. Okay. There's nothing. That's this respect. It should be instantly. Hey,
guys, Joe Gorgas right here. All right. Well, everyone, welcome, Brett, my producer. Hi, Brett.
Hey, how's it going? It's very, very exciting to be on display for the first time.
How do you like this? But I'm sorry, Joe Gorgas tries to take your, uh, your start-um so quickly and just tries to like,
he's a hog. He's a fame whore. That's the problem.
I just wanted to be why, why can't it be like, hey, it's me and Joe Gorgher here. We're
going to, I want to introduce you also, Brett. Okay. All right. So give Brett a nice little
introduction, Joe. Go ahead. What's your introduction? Don't, don't copy mine now.
Hi guys. Hi. I just want to say, you know, I want to introduce this amazing.
He's not just a producer, but he is a new father and what he says about his
daughter and a type of man this guy is.
He's my speed.
You have a heart of gold.
You got great hair.
You look good.
And I want to introduce our producer, Brett.
See, this is why I love you too. You too are. I can write something on paper. And then you guys
take it and make it a thousand times better. So you make my job really easy.
Do we probably not all the time? Do you get ever get sick of hearing our band? I mean,
I know you and I, Brett work together a lot more,
but you know, when Joe comes on,
do you enjoy those episodes?
Are you like holy shit?
Here comes the banter.
You know, my stomach hurts after I have you to come on.
It reminds me a lot of my wife and I,
you're two real people.
You keep it candid on the show.
That's all I can ask for,
but you make me die laughing every single time I have you on. So it candid on the show. That's all I can ask for. But you make me die laughing
every single time I have you on. So it's always worth it. I know. And you probably go back
like to your wife and you're like, well, the gorgas were on today. And yes, they discussed
sex. And yes, they discussed more sex. And well, it was when Joe Gorgas in the room, he doesn't
know what else to talk about. Let's be real. You know this Brett.
How many times do I like stop joke? Cause I'm like, can you stop?
Please?
It is the humor.
That's what it's about.
It's not really that funny.
And it is funny.
All right.
Well, I have to ask you, and listen, there's a lot of times you and I, we,
we have such great guests, right?
And we've met so many great people.
You, you give me a good, as producers should.
You write up a lot of questions,
and you and I, oh, pow wow for a little bit,
before each episode will shoot each other some text,
say what we're interested in, what's going on in the world.
Like, I say to you, hey, we're talking to this one today,
make sure to put this, this, and that in there,
because I definitely don't want to forget to ask them this. And we have a really great banter. So I want to say thank you,
first of all, for helping me create such an amazing podcast because you're really, really good at
what you do and you're very good at making me feel comfortable because in the beginning, I wasn't
even sure I wanted to do a podcast, right? And, you know, and I knew you had been in this world
already for people who don't know. Brett, first of all, let's say your little story. He lives
in LA. So Brett's out in LA. He used to work with Ryan C. Crest. Is that right? Yes, that
is. That is right. Tell the people what you did, Brett, from Ryan C. Crest to Melissa Gorgas.
Yes, I was a broadcast engineer for a while for Ryan C. Crest moved up to LA for that.
And then I had the opportunity to work with podcast one as the director of production.
Took on a few shows.
One of my first shows was working with you.
And it's always been a blast.
I have to say when I walked through the office, right?
And you met him for the first time.
Yeah, I met you for the first time.
I'm like, who the fuck is this guy talking to my wife?
Guys, Brett, it's Barry Handsome.
Like Joe said, he has a nice set of hair.
And it's funny because when we do these podcasts with our guests,
they can see Brett, right?
Because we do like this zoom meeting where you can see all three parties involved.
And a couple of my guests have definitely hit on Brett before.
They've definitely most people say, oh, he's handsome,
wow. And I feel like Carson Cressley, right? Oh, hit on you so far on my podcast. Yeah,
Carson. It was Carson that, I mean, he, that guy is so awesome. First off, I absolutely loved
Carson. Carson hit on me. The lovely Ramona singer. That was a special one.
I remember that.
She was like, whoa, he's cute.
He's cute this guy.
How did you get your producer?
You know she texted me after that.
She was like, so what's your producer's name again?
Can I use him?
I'm like, no Ramona, you have to use your own producer.
I had to tell my wife what I went,
yeah, after that they grabbed, I go,
hey, you better keep me on a tight leash because Ramona singers after me and not.
And you know, it's on when she wants to start robbing the cradle.
So yes, yeah.
I'm believable.
I was a little concerned.
And I'm like, I'm like, when is good looking guy talking to my wife all the time, but then
then I met you and he's so nice.
You're just a nice guy.
You're really, you're respectful.
You're nice. And I was like,
no, no, no, that's okay. And you love your wife. And you just had a little baby. You have, he has a
gorgeous baby. Hey, she is stunning child. How old is she seven months now, Brett?
She just turned seven months. Yep. Just turned seven months. And yeah, she is. She's been
hurting our sleep lately. but it's beautiful.
New parents, this is it.
This is what life's about.
Who gets up, who gets up at night with her, Brett?
You know, God bless, Allison.
I'd say Allison takes, takes the brunt of it, you know, and like obviously, like, you
know, she's the one feeding her and doing most of it.
I try to help out where I can, but God bless my wife.
There you go.
Yeah.
That was me.
My wife. This guy. I'm sure you've never moved. I got up. You've never even got out of bed
when that baby. I really don't even think you know where the diapers are in the house.
I bet you changed diapers, Brett. Tell the truth. You know, you do. I do change diapers.
I'll keep it just at that. Yeah. Well, first of all, I want you to give us some behind the scenes because I think that's
something the viewers and my listeners rather would want to hear.
Give me your first impression when you thought like, I wanted to start a podcast.
When you heard I was doing a podcast, thoughts about all of this, the be like, when you first
met me, give me the beginning.
Be honest.
Be honest.
I was very nervous. You don't know what you get from reality television people.
I think a lot of the time, you just, it was one of those things I only knew the series
for a little bit.
My wife absolutely loved you too.
But you know how that is sometimes that people can be very, very charming on screen and then
can be complete nightmares, you know, in real life or whatever.
So yeah, I was a little nervous,
but then all of our chats, our meetings leading up
to the launch, all signs pointed to this thing
is going to work.
I could tell right away that you cared about this show.
I remember we recorded the first episode together
with you and Joe, and you called me the night
before that episode was gonna release, and you're like're like Brett something is about to break on TMZ
Joe and I need to record something right now to just talk about this because this is going to be what's going to break tomorrow.
I remember telling Allison I just go she gives a shit about this show and you can't teach that level of care about your own product. You either have it or you don't.
teach that level of care about your own product. You either have it or you don't. I've always been like that. Like if I'm going to do something I want to do with A plus, right?
I want to go all the way. I want to go harder, go home. Yeah.
But Joe, I did right around the first episode that I did was when you took the suit-of-fat on
stage on your, on your, your comedies night and we're slurring and falling off the stage and I
had to save you and like come get you off the stage
Which had never happened before but I had a heads up that TMZ was putting that out and I was like, you know
What I called Brett and I was like I need to tell my side of the story be 40MZ tells
Their side of the story so let's break this
And that's what we did and we went late that night. I remember,
I mean, I think it was eight o'clock. My I mean, it was 11 o'clock your time when we were
recording this. And all I thought was she cares about her show. That's all I can ask for as a producer.
Do you fantasize about who you'd be if you lived somewhere different? Maybe it's surf if you

Let me ask you this.
Who, like we've had many guests, right? We've had
a lot of guests. Let me just tell you, you're slacking a little right now on the producing,
because usually you'll scroll my little thing up, and you haven't really scrolled because
you're so into being a guest right now. But I'm really enjoying this, like trying, you
know, we're wearing two hats here today, Brett. Yeah. So, so what, well,
this is what, what, what this is talking about is we have like a production sheet. We'll
roll through it as the interview progresses. We try to hit the spots as much as possible.
You obviously take it wherever it goes. And it's always in the better direction. But I
am slacking on the, on the sheet today. I'm sorry. I don't even look at that side. I don't look at you talking. Exactly. Joe doesn't, Joe doesn't hit a schedule. He just goes. But
my, my thing is like a lot of times, Brett and I will come up with things that I do not
want to forget to ask the guests because they're like important key things. And then
let's we write them down and he's scrolling around on my screen. If I'm heavy on one subject,
he'll highlight something. But don't forget to ask. If I'm heavy on one subject, he'll highlight something
big. Don't forget to ask this while I'm talking so that I remember, you know, just a little
behind the scenes, Joe. That's how that goes. So usually he's scrolling right now as I'm talking.
And he's not. He's just leaving me on the first paragraph, which is because he's the actual
guest today.
I've never been in the seat before. So it's awesome.
I'm teasing you, but I actually love it at the same time. That is so funny.
So we've had a lot of guests, right?
I think I know personally, like I remember you and Brett, oh, he says hello. So whoever, whoever comes on on zoom, he always says, hi, I'm the producer.
He gets, you know, he meets them meet them, we all see each other. And there was one that I thought that he was like
very excited about. I was like, wow, he's like a real fan. Like you really were a fan.
So let me ask you, who out of everyone that we have spoken to so far. Have you really fan girl the hardest over?
You know, I truly think I can I still remember the day.
I think Michael Rappaport joining our show was one of those.
One of those times.
You were like a kid in a damn candy store and that's who I was talking about too.
You were like, I'm, I want to go to your shows.
I'm a major.
But I was like, he loves him. And you
can tell you knew everything about him. Like you can just tell that he's like a major fan.
Yeah. I mean, I remember sliding in notes for that particular episode where I'm writing
these notes. And I'm just like, no one's going to care about this. It's me asking Michael
Rappaport that. So we had to, we had to take some of the questions out. But yeah, Michael rap report was so fantastic. I actually think I forgot to mute my, so as he's joining, I
just said something like, my god, Melissa, I am such a fan of this guy. And I think he
heard that. And look at it. Oh, my God. Yeah. And you really were. It was so, it was so
obvious too, because you're pretty cool with everyone. But with him, I was like,
wow, he is like really digging Michael Rappabort. I fan girled out. I remember afterwards, we exchanged
numbers. We went to his comedy show that night. He and I were texting. It was, it was a good time.
Oh, you did go to his comedy show. He gave you tickets and everything, right? Yep. Yep. He gave
a, he gave us tickets. I mean, it was, it was a fantastic night. He's a good guy. He's actually a good guy. I think he gets, you know, people, it's like,
you don't, you don't know because he's loud and he speaks his mind, but he's actually a really good
guy, a really good guy. Is my child face timing me from the Drake concert right now?
Hey, you got to answer that. That's what I'm saying. Right. That's where you're going to look
forward to. She's seven months old pretty soon. She Should we call you if she's at the Drake concert, you know, seven,
not pretty. You have about 60. Yeah, but no, no, it goes that fast.
It does go really fast. That's what I've heard too. The days are long,
but the years are very short when it comes to being a parent. It is so true.
Like every time you turn around, it's another birthday or
it's another Christmas or whatever it might be. Like it really does fly. And so like when
people used to say that to me when I had little babies, I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I would just somebody make them talk and feed themselves and change their own wipe
their own shit. Like that's what I used to think about. And now I'm like, I would do anything
to chase them around the house. Yeah. Yeah. And I
mean, I already look at her seven months old, and it's like, how much time has passed? I mean,
it's like yesterday she was born. You guys know it. You have you've had three amazing kids, and
I've taken a few notes out of the Gorgas parenting book. Oh, thank you. Some parenting notes.
Yeah. Always being there for each other. You guys live a life of excitement.
You never forget to keep your relationship at the forefront.
I mean, obviously kids are the priority,
but that's one thing I've really, really noticed
with working with you too.
You always make sure you don't forget about your relationship.
And that's a huge thing.
That's a huge, huge lesson that I think a lot of people
have to learn when it's go time and luckily
working with you two, you know, my daughter comes into the world and it was one of those
things that Allison and I have focused on a lot and that's a lot to do with working with
you two, just making sure that the parents are good, that the relationship is good on that
and because if that's not good, how do you take care of your children in the right way?
And there you go and I've watched a lot of these parents like in the sports world. And you know, because we're into sports a lot and the parents
just kind of separate. They go with the, uh, they're so involved in their kids sports. And they
just forget about, you know, men forget about their wives and vice versa. And you forget about
that you're still married. And you can't do that, you know,
you've got to remember the parents are there.
We got you got to keep the foundation to keep everybody.
You have to or else the whole house kind of falls down and then the children are miserable
because they see your misery on your face.
And if the mom's not happy, then the dad's not happy.
If the dad's not happy, right?
So it just kind of trickles down.
So I do feel like the core relationship needs to remain strong. And sometimes
it's hard because you start arguing about bills and diapers and kids and who's going to do what
and who can get their nails done and who has to go to work and you know, just like who's doing
more in the household and it gets very tainted and you almost forget why you guys got married or
why you love each other or why you're in a relationship and
you know you're both just stressed and tired and it's just one of those things that you really
have to concentrate on your marriage just as much as you concentrate on your kids or else it
all kind of crumbles. No, but I look at the days I look at the days like where my parents were younger, we were younger. And like the old school values, the parents hung out more.
They partied, we went with them or they invited people over.
That's what it used to be, right?
It was about the parents.
It wasn't about the kids.
It wasn't. Now it's around and do everything.
It was more about the parents. They was a now drive us around and do everything. It was more about the parents.
They work. They did everything. And now these days, it's like, we, the kids control us.
Drive me here. Bring me here. I got to go here. This play day, that play there. You know,
and we're running around for them. No, you know, that's true. Back in the day, it was like,
no, we're the parents.
We don't care what movie you want to see. You're going to watch what we want to say, right?
And I feel like now it is. So it's about like, we have to take them. They want to go out. They
want to go to the movies. They want to go to a concert. What, what did they want to eat?
And it's used to be where parents would be like, what, and you're a millennial, right?
Brad, because so your, your household's going to be run more child is the runner.
Like it's just crazy. And like we didn't grow up like that, Joe, and I how did you grow up?
Was it like, did you do what your parents wanted to do? Type of thing?
Yeah, you know, I mean, that was one of the things that I think my parents were really, really
good at. And we were always hope, highlighting with them. We were never steering the ship.
My sister, my brother and I, we were following along.
We were never forgotten about or anything like that.
But my parents did what they wanted to do, whether it was my mom and her
boyfriend's or my dad and my stepmom.
They always made the plans and we were the ones that were following along with it.
And I think that was that was huge too, because that's what I'm going to instill
with pages as much as I love you, you're riding with us. Yeah, like I'm the boss, right? And I feel like
we do that sometimes show. No, we do that. No, but we sometimes we work a lot too. So maybe we
have guilt. So we'll do what they want to do. We're like, sometimes if it's like we're fighting
over, we're going to go down the shore, or we're going to stay up north, something is easy is that
like we give in to what they want to do because not a lot, not like these other parents, we don't. We, we, we,
we give in, but we do a lot for us together because if you don't forget it, we, we have to
right. And like, we'll make them come to dinner with us at like a restaurant that we want to go to
or control your whole life and you're running around just for them and they're having a good time and you're just like the dummy. Yeah, you don't tell me just oh, bay in the kids. Yeah,
no, no, no, it's like listen, we work hard. We work hard as hell to give you this life. I need my time,
you know, and and we'll give you your time. So just keep that in mind because if if you guys,
what happens is it ruins a marriage. It really does. Yeah, I think you can fall into a rut very easily.
Allison, we've fallen into that a little bit,
which is just prioritizing page.
And we're not denying her anything,
but at the same time, we're constantly remembering
that we're the team that instills and takes care of her.
And if the team is not good, we can't perform.
And I just feel like, I just feel like, Brett, there was a lot more respect back then.
The kids respected more of their parents.
To these days, it's just different.
Yeah, yeah.
I really, it's not as scared, I would say they're not scared.
Like back in the day, I think we were all scared.
Like we were like scared to like, yeah, you should say the wrong thing, to do the wrong
thing, to get in trouble. I don't feel like these kids nowadays are not they're not as
like scared on every social media. Everything's out out in the open. They see everything.
Right. You know, it's the parents like, you know, I was a little stricter with my daughter,
my kids and then all the parents and like the live thing, the kids could do anything they want.
So it's like, it's your only, you can't be the only one that can't do it. So you, it's.
Yeah, we were noticing a lot of parents around us for a lot more lenient than we were. So we
almost gave in a little bit. We started to give in, right? Basically.
Yeah, looking back, I remember feeling so cool and respected when I sat at the
parents table, the day that I could move from the kids table to the parents table. And
I feel like that, you know, not to get hung up on it, but I feel like that's changed
where the kids think, okay, well, if the parents are cool, they're going to hang with us.
And it's like, no, no, that's not the case. Right. Why are we giving them so much
control? We need to come together as a nation. Well, we're trying to teach Brett, change it
out, brother. Yes. Hey, hey, it's just really what would your dad used to say at the weight
when the tree starts growing, it doesn't bends. No, my father used to say, you bend the tree
when it's small, because when it grows, you know, tree gets hard. You can't bend it.
It's too big.
You can't bend it.

lively. She walks into the space. I gave her a live
list married to me 18 now. Joe, you this guy wants to take
credit for everything.
Jesus. All right. So give me some other little like behind the
scenes things. What else comes to mind when you think of
Melissa Gorgon display and being the producer
of this show? I absolutely love, especially when we have Joe on the tangents. When we go off
subject and Joe says something, you know, sometimes most of the time it's about sex or something.
It's your dynamic, the two of them. And how many times Melissa, you've said, oh my god, stop.
We've got to cut right here. We're not going. Oh my god. I tell him when he goes too deep into
the sex talk, I'm like, wait, Brett, Brett, Brett, Brett, I'm like, Joe, stop talking,
Brett, just cut that whole part out, please. And Joe's like, don't cut it out. These people
need to know they need to know. I'm like, no, they don't need to hear about your sex. It's not about my sex. It's about life. I know. But
sometimes you know, like see, we're doing it. We're doing it again, Brett. And you're just
sitting there laughing at us. That's funny. I'll tell you another thing that I absolutely love is
when we do ads, I mean, the ads that we have to read Melissa, you are hilarious. And sometimes
these ad reads can be a little difficult. So I put together a little blooper reel for
you. I'm done here. Wait, you put a blooper reel together. I did actually. I put a blooper
reel together. Let's play it. Can you play it for us? I will fire it away right now.
Time reports your payments to credit boroughs bureaus. Time reports your paint. Time reports your payments to credit bureaus. bureaus. Time reports your paint. Time reports your payments to credit bureaus.
I can't ever say bureaus. I could do that. Time record.
Time. RIP. Oh my God. And yes, if you don't know exactly how much you're spending
every month, you need rocket monkey. Rocket monkey is a personal finance app that finds and can't
rock it. Rocket money. Rocket monkey.
These.
If it's rocket monkey. Rocket money. It's to the rocket monkey. And not only do they have spark,
they also have the electrolyte drink electrolyte. And not only do they have spark. They also have the electrolyte drink electrolyte. And not only do they have spark, they have the
electrolyte drink mix electrolyte. And not only do they have
spark, they have the electrolyte drink mix. You will receive a
full breakdown of all the interest you shouldn't be paying
each month and multiple options on how they can get help.
Fuck that was so close.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.

You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck.
You're stuck. You're stuck. You're God, we should do a blooper reel.
You're terrible. That's terrible. I'll kill these ads. Oh, you think you could read Zakta?
Sure. Okay, go ahead. Try it. Wait, Brett, you have to pull this out for him. You don't know. It's a damn, oh, this is going to be it. So here, Joe,

You know, your ad reading hasn't proved, but you've always been fantastic to work with.
Oh, well, I'm so lucky to have you because you really like,
first of all, you make my guests feel so comfortable and you always reassure me and
you're so great with like you just you you live in my mood
even when I went through some really hard times this past year just with my show and family stuff and you
would always be I have to say like I have that producer I can't say this for all the other podcasts
out there but you always lean towards stay out of the mud stay stay positive, Melissa. Don't talk about it.
And you always push to stay positive.
And I appreciate you so much for that, because I get into a rut
and I want to defend myself, right?
Or sometimes I want to explain myself to the haters.
And you always tell me it's not worth it and not to do it and to rise above.
And I appreciate that advice from you all the time.
That means a lot, Melissa. Thank you. You're the man, brother.

But all right, you have to say one negative thing about me. What's not you know?
What is the worst thing about working with me Brett? What is it like? What do I do that kind of like the worst thing about working with me?
You know
Joe let's speak. That is a talk. He's not talking to you.
Brad, say it.
Brad, what if you had to pick a negative like what's a, get a stutter in about the same
question?
You can get like a little difficult or something.
What is it about or what is it?
You know, I think sometimes and I don't even think it's necessarily you, but and I think
that sometimes speaking your mind,
and we always talk about it, the powers that be,
sometimes the powers that be tend to step in
and don't want us to say this, don't want us to keep it
as real as we want to keep it and things like that.
And sometimes that gets a little hard to navigate.
Sometimes my job becomes a tad more challenging
when we have extra ears,
you know, listening and wanting us to tweak some content and critiquing and telling
us to take it down or take it out or whatever can get a little frustrating. Yeah. And, you
know, sometimes keeping it real gets us into hot water, but we don't put out regrettable
content. Right. That's what I want to do. Put out content. That's not regrettable that
people enjoy listening, that people it's happy listening.
It's not listening to like a shit fest of shitting on people and trying to
make other people look bad or trying to win. You know how you win? You win
with your real personality. And I feel like you taught me a lot of that
Brett too. And just there's no need to defend. Just be you because when you're
authentic and who you are and not trying to put someone else
down, it lets the real you show even more. And I feel like
that's a bad pattern people get into with podcasts is almost
like battling of the podcasts, right? And like wanting to just
be negative about other people and use the platform for that.
And I think you and I together have come up with great
episodes and great people and really mixed it up in a way where we figured out a way to just
still be interesting, still be fun without hurting people and without playing in the mud. And
that's always been important for me for this podcast. And also my my listeners just giving them a good
laugh for 30, 40 minutes and and making them have like easy listening and
talking about like relatable things in house and home and relationships and kids and
bringing on a fun celebrity guest and another robbery that's going to give us a little piece of
juicy scoop like for me. This is what it's all about being on this podcast and it is not possible
without you at all. So thank you.
That's why I wanted to introduce you today
to all the listeners who, you know,
so you know people come up to me,
they're like, I'm a listener,
like they'll come up to me in a restaurant
and they'll be like, I'm a listener and I love that.
So I feel like the listeners need to know Brett.
So now they know me.
It's very handsome guys.
He's very taken
and he's a daddy. So it doesn't matter. Yeah. So Ramona's second in line just in case
this doesn't work out. Everything. Anything ever happened. You're all about Ramona. I
got that. But I will say, you know, and I'll end with this most of that, all those words
mean so much. You have no idea. But I wanted to tell you this at the end of the day.
I'm happy to say you're not just an incredible host.
You're a friend that anyone is lucky to have.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Let's keep making amazing podcasts.
Episodes together.
Let's keep keep them rolling in.
Let's keep picking good guests.
Let's keep Joe Gorgas sprinkled in here
for his little bit of laughter.
That's how I get this respect.
Brett, thank you so much for coming on my podcast today.
This was an absolute pleasure. I am honored and yeah, I'm really looking forward. We got episode 100.
I think a little bit down the road. So that's huge, huge accomplishment.
Wow. And we have over five, just about five million downloads, which is huge.
So congratulations to us. I'm very, very happy about that.
I'm very happy about our number of people who listen to us each week.

you know, have a voice on. And I just appreciate you guys. We couldn't do this without you.
You guys are there listening, right? So keep DMing me. Tell me what you want. Pretty soon,
Brett, they're going to find you. They're about DMing you what they want. Also, but this
was so fun. Now, now go ahead and edit my episode. Okay. Absolutely. I will be right on
it. You two be right on it.
You two have a wonderful night.
