Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm going to answer. You guys don't, right? Just in case you guys get fined, right? I'm going to put it as lightly as possible. It already did. Yeah, I'm co-signing that. That should have been done. Welcome, welcome to episode number 32 of the Optic Podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:25 This episode is brought to you by Keeps and Away, which explains that suitcase that I just received today. I'm like, did you bought me a new one? Buy me a new one? Because I needed one. Also, I've missed you guys. Thank you for allowing me to step back in. Obviously, I've been working, man. I've been grinding.
Starting point is 00:00:43 I've been traveling a lot. You guys have been left to your own devices to carry the podcast. And all I hear is pocket things. Oh, let's not get into that. Yeah, man. It's good to have you back. Thank you. Podcasts definitely don't feel the same without you.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Well, the thing is this. And this is where I don't get enough credit. People always are like, heck, they never lets anybody else talk. He's always concerning himself. Do you know what this podcast would look like if I didn't fucking try to fucking carry? Go look at the last one. Okay. Was I in the last one?
Starting point is 00:01:16 No. Point blank period. Amen. I was in one of them. They talked about Hala the whole time. Yeah. Yeah. You were just sitting there the whole time.
Starting point is 00:01:24 If you didn't, but the thing is, if you didn't carry, someone else would step up and carry. You would think so. Like Hitch hits me up on the side. He's like, hey, just so you know, I didn't want it to happen. But we ended up talking about the podcast. pocket things for like the entire episode. I'm like, come on, man.
Starting point is 00:01:40 The pocket, like bay blades? No, the pocket. What do they call? Let them rip? The pocket. You know, the. Oh, flashlight. Flashlight, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:49 You know. Yeah. They talked about the flashlight like the entire time. A former owner of one. But the whole thing? What? Former owner of one? Everyone in the Optic House got one.
Starting point is 00:01:59 I didn't. Oh, didn't you have one of like 60-50 or something? Everyone in the optic house got one. No, nature had one. Who got him to everyone? And didn't someone find it years later? You? No, I didn't find it.
Starting point is 00:02:11 I remember someone... I remember someone said something about, I think after NadeShaw moved out that they found it or something in the classic. It was dusty? Dusty, sticky. No, it couldn't have. It was dry. Anyway, let's move on. We have a bunch of conversations to be had.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Obviously, I wasn't in the last two because I had what? business and then I had to go out west for the for the cannabis business to visit the farms Whiskey leaf in the building they're looking fruitful as ever massive massive buds you know what I mean buddy but would you say that you're getting the best of the best um see it all depends on on who look I know that I'm going to have some quality fire yeah affordable and unaffordable affordable affordable to some affordable not so I was going to say you know it just I popped in my brain that that the Olympic runner that got disqualified for smoking weed. And that's kind of crazy.
Starting point is 00:03:09 That's nuts. It takes, it takes, what's her name? I think it was because it was, where are the Olympics? In Japan, I think. Yeah, Tokyo. Tokyo? That's Japan, right? Yeah. So apparently in Japan, it's super illegal.
Starting point is 00:03:22 So they were saying that if it wasn't in Japan, she probably wouldn't have gotten trouble. But since it was in Japan, since they're so strict on it. Yeah, Shakari. Shikari's her name. But I don't know. I'm just speaking off of what I read on Twitter. I'm not really too well versed in it. No, what happens is that every athlete gets tested, right?
Starting point is 00:03:40 Yeah. And if they don't find performance enhancing drugs, that's one thing. See, right? So she, yeah, that's the weird part. This is where the line is, where, like, weed ain't performance enhancing. Unless you, like, take it to an extreme and you look at, like, muscle, you know, rehabilitation and, like, whenever you're done at the end of the day, it's, like, relaxing. Yeah, sleep.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Yeah. Like, you could take it to that extreme, but it's not a. performance amazing drug. That's not, I mean, I guess, I guess it helps performance by recovery, but not during it. If anything, she's putting herself, she's debilitating herself during a run because she's smoking and she's like, you know, they're smoking the lungs and it's not, they're not as fresh as whatever. Either way. Well, if you're like a short runner.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Yeah, look, it takes, it takes stuff like this though to to find out how stupid shit is, right? It takes stuff like this to be this public and for this many people to talk. talk about it to sort of have change start to happen. And look, I don't want to spend too much time on it just because it's not, but it's, it's what's his name? Caruso just got caught with a grinder. A grinder for those of you who don't know is a little bit of a magic bullet hand that you We don't need to educate everybody.
Starting point is 00:04:50 We're not educating. I'm just saying he got caught with a grant. There was literally no, no, no flower. There was no flower in the thing. It was just like dust and stuff that was a stuff that was left over. they got them to that. I take back what I said because the NFL, they still drug test for weed too.
Starting point is 00:05:05 No, they're, they're, I think they're a lot more. The NFL, the NBA, I think the NBA and the NFL are going to start allowing people to use it. I think they already do.
Starting point is 00:05:15 They already do? I think so. So never mind then. The NFL won't drug test for THC in players from April 20th to August 9th. April, oh, 2021. That's the offseason.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Yeah, yeah. The policy means that the 2021 first year players. can celebrate 420 without discipline from the NFL. Yeah, look, again, the ties are turning. We're just going to have to wait. Everybody needs to be patient. Right, that still doesn't, they're still getting tested during the season for it.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Yeah, they're going to get tested, but they're not going to do anything about it because they can't be. Yeah, it's where they came out and said, like, that they are way less harsh on it now. Yeah, they can't, they can't be okay with it in some cases and not okay with, you know, in other case. It's just such a bad thing, right? It's such a weird, weird law.
Starting point is 00:06:01 They should have never been there. Anyway, let's start, let's start with the topics at hand. It's all about control. It's all about control, Seth. Right? It's all about those five major, uh, alcohol, tobacco, tobacco, marijuana. Marijuana? No, marijuana is what they were going against, lobbying against.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Crack? Crag. Smoke crack with me, bro. Say, hey, bro. Smoke crack with me. He's like, what? That's from, uh, Wolf Wall Street. For anyone, I'm not actually asking him to smoke crack with me.
Starting point is 00:06:26 No, no, no. All right. So Clayster says the war zone could kill competitive, or call it. multiplayer. Could this be true? I'm going to answer. You guys don't, right? Just in case you guys get fined, right? I'm going to put it as lightly as possible. It already did.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I'm co-signing that. That should have been done. That should have been done. Well, I mean, it's not like it's, you know, not apparent to everybody. I mean, look at Twitch, for instance. Look at the player base, like, you know, Cold War has like 6K viewers. Warzone has like minimum 100 all the time. Here is my question. And Warzone has a tournament like every two days.
Starting point is 00:07:00 They're playing for 100 grand every day. two days. Yeah, here's my question though, right? And here's where the debate happens. Do you think that it's Warzone or do you think it's the popular personalities that are playing Warzone? Would Warzone be as popular as it is today if Nick, Tim, Jack, we'll throw Symphony in there because he's the homie?
Starting point is 00:07:22 Now. Would Warzone be that big? No, that's how it always is with games. The people, well, I mean, they're going to have like their casual audience already and Call of Duty definitely has a huge casual audience. It isn't like linked with Twitch and YouTube But I mean that definitely helps a lot With just promotion in general
Starting point is 00:07:38 Because think about how many viewers they all have And how many friends all those viewers have They're like yo did you see this? Yo did you see this? So it just like trickles down And then their friends tell their friends And that's what everyone plays So I feel like it does have a big impact
Starting point is 00:07:51 Like what the streamers are playing Yeah like even me when I get on my phone And I click Twitch and I see all of these people playing warzone In my mind I'm not even thinking about playing war zone But when I see it every single day, people are playing Warsone. Scrolling through Twitter, Warzone clips. It's all you ever see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:08 So it's like one of these days, you're just bound to sign on and play. I would play Warzone only. Actually, I would play Game Battles, S&D matches first, then Warzone, then League Play. Those are, those are, those are my right-d-ee. But if you saw these content creators playing League Play, do you think people would start searching League Play? Of course. I think, well, yeah, a lot more. Not as many as you think, because the game is just not, it's, you can't sit there,
Starting point is 00:08:31 and play league play for four hours because you're playing the same four maps. Warzone, you get a different experience every single time if you win. And war zone is like way more rewarding. And creative. Yeah. Like if you play league play you're playing,
Starting point is 00:08:44 I mean, I was saying yesterday, they literally gave us a soft Black Ops 2 remaster and nobody like has said anything. Like we, they're bringing back Plaza Slums and Yemen. So now we have standoff raid, Plaza Slums, Yemen. The Express. We have six Black Ops 2 maps.
Starting point is 00:09:00 The NIR strike has been playing the same maps for the last 20 years. Yeah, but Call of Duty, like, is known for originality in, like, creating new good maps. But when they do, you guys complain about how shitty the maps are. No, that's not true. You GA maps. They're just not as good as they could be. Yeah. Huh?
Starting point is 00:09:17 They're just not as good as they could be. I'm playing. Like, look at World War II. I was talking about World War II, for instance. You had like, Devil's Advocate. Two or three good maps. You had London Docks, St. Marie. I liked Flack Tower for CTF.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Some people don't agree with that. But then you had like Gibraltar, Ardennes, like bad maps that offset the good maps. So now you have like half good maps, half bad maps. There's not been a game where it's like all good competitive maps. Since ALo3. Since a long time ago. Yeah. I don't think that there's going to be any change or any sort of improvement or any real, I don't know, silver lining in competitive Call of Duty.
Starting point is 00:09:53 They need to. Until we allocate one specific building in theory. I'm not talking about a physical building. I'm talking about a building block of people either figuring out only what competitive is and nobody else in the company can say, well, this is not, you know what I mean? Like, I need them to either create a department that only focuses on competitive and their thing is competitive only. Because when you start mixing in creatives from Warzone, creatives from multiplayer and then creatives from competitive,
Starting point is 00:10:30 then you're looking at the multiplayer builders that one only specifies on kill-confirmed. The other one does TDM only. There needs to be more innovation. There's just, it's, it's, Cod's been the same thing. Yeah, so while I was traveling, I was watching. What are you talking about? Fucking Nick.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Well, what's Nick doing over here? TTA. What are you dropping merch? Probably in like two weeks. Why are you pushing it now? I'm not pushing it. I'm just doing this thing. Just letting them to slide.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Let me rock over here. But Kaan needs to be more out. League play and yeah, war zone. Caught needs to be more innovative. It's been the same thing for the past like. So has Counterstrike. So has League of Legends. Yeah, but they have good ranking systems.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So that's, you can't even compare it. So you're talking about ranking system. Can we get a good ranking system? Can we get a good ranking system? Facts. Can't even compare. It is the question. Can we get a good ranking system that is really.
Starting point is 00:11:21 when the game is released and not as a market employee to bump up the frequency in which Call of Duty is spoken. It needs to be released. But would a good ranking system be like how everyone wanted boots on the ground? That boots on the ground came out there like, this isn't actually who gives a shit? And like no one really cared about having a boots on the ground. Everyone's saying, oh, wait until if there's a good ranking system, then a good ranking system comes out. Is it really going to do that much?
Starting point is 00:11:50 I don't know All I know is that I was I was traveling And then I saw I was traveling I signed the news Something about you saying that you're gonna Like if the next year's game isn't good I might hang up my boots Huh
Starting point is 00:12:03 I said I need to see a trailer or some shit Another World War II game I've heard a lot of a lot of bad things There needs to be just like rumors I don't know if they're true because they are rumors But I've heard a lot of you know Just like it's underdeveloped they don't have the staff to do it It's a what? It's a World War II
Starting point is 00:12:19 It's a Rush game like this Cold War kind of feels like a little bit of a rush game so if there's another year of a game like this and they're gonna like
Starting point is 00:12:28 try to integrate into war zone somehow what's the next cod like based off of like what other Cod isn't that the shitty one yeah like no colors yeah they added pine trees
Starting point is 00:12:41 like two cod to go or something look that shit was trash it was not fun it was not fun to play I mean it just again I please don't find me. I'm speaking just, I'm speaking facts.
Starting point is 00:12:52 I'm not even giving opinions. I'm speaking straight factual. So you can't find me for speaking facts. They can't find you for saying what has happened. Can't find me for speaking facts. I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking. Ah, yeah. You know? Is that right? Anvoe, do you agree with the... Yeah, he's...
Starting point is 00:13:07 Damn, he put himself in the line of fire. Yeah, he opened his mouth. He'll split that shit. You got it. You got it. No, anyway, so... You put it on the board. So anyway, so the... Is it really that big of concern to you? What? Like whether or not next year is a good year?
Starting point is 00:13:24 Like what determines for you? Mm-hmm. What? I mean, I just like to compete. So I really, I've obviously preferred to have the game be good and compete in it, but I just enjoy competing in general. You love con. I mean, if you have a good game, it just makes it more enjoyable for us to compete in.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Like, if you have a bad game, like, we're still competing, but, like, we might not even like competing in that game. Getting on to practice every day feels like a chore if it's a bad game. If it's a good game, you're like, oh, I like playing this game. It's fun to practice every day, now? And even the pros talk about it. Now there's like no eights or anything that go on at night at all. Yeah, nobody plays this game.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Yeah, that's a bad sign. That is such a bad sign. Everyone just, like, play scrimms and then plays like league play. And then like, there's maybe eights like twice a week. I mean, I'm part of the problem, too. I don't play eights or lead play, but like, it's so boring. I'm going to play baller in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:13 I'm going to play Valeron. I get my reps and scrimms and like, I know what I'm fucking doing, you know. I don't need to play AIDS, but no one wants to play the game. Like that's a bad sign. That is a bad sign. And look, is it a sign of the times? I don't know. All I know is that we're going to continue to do what we always try to do.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Well, and you know, it's a carry call duty. Well, it's also, it's kind of. Put it on our shoulders and just fucking push the continent now. It's gone. It's kind of unfair too because like COVID did happen and I can side or I can see the other side of like the studios, everything's done remotely. They're not, you know, as interconnected. as they would be at the offices and stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:46 So it probably is hard to make as good of a game if you don't have all the tools necessary. But like, I mean, it just reflects on, you know, viewership. I'm assuming numbers. I don't know the numbers. I mean, I see the numbers. We've got to report every single week and it's just, I don't know. I don't know what we need to do.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I see some organizations trying to create the content, trying to at least do their part. And I, you know, I tip my hat to them because it's not only, not easy, but it's also resources that you have to allocate to something. So I don't know. Hopefully, hopefully we can continue to push on this. Hopefully next year it'll be better. It feels like I've said that shit for the last decade.
Starting point is 00:15:27 I mean, it's the same thing with God. Come on. Listen, since 2006, let me, let me tell you, since modern warfare two, there hasn't been a single time in which I've signed on to, to call the duty and I felt like a kid. Call of Duty two was my first thing. I fell in love with it. amazing. Call Duty 3 sucks the shit.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Didn't play it. Then Mono Warfare comes out. The game changes forever. Then World at War and we're like, man, that's pretty cool. Still better, whatever. And then Modern Warfare 2 comes out and then everybody loses their shit. Everybody's like, everyone's happy. Everything's the best in Call of Duty's ever been. Since then,
Starting point is 00:16:03 when has there ever been a time where you've been really thrilled about it? Aside from Warzone, this war zone, I haven't felt anything. I don't want to play any of that unless it's competitive, and I'm not saying that I want to play GBs because it's fun. I just want to play because it's competitive and I'm beating someone. Warzone, I like play Warsone because it's fun. I like playing it a lot and I like play it with my friends.
Starting point is 00:16:27 That's why I'm having fun. But aside from that, man, like I'm not fucking thrilled. Like I don't see anything that's being announced that I'm fucking super hyped about. I mean, it's the same thing every year. Cod comes out. Everyone's hype. You know, everyone plays it for a couple weeks and then it slowly just drops, drops, drops, drop, drop, drop, drops. and then, I mean, it's the cod cycle.
Starting point is 00:16:43 And then they show the trailer of the new cod. Everyone gets hype again for the new cod, and then everyone gets their hopes up. It drops. Everyone plays it, plays, plays it. Yeah. They get sick of it. Drops, drop, drop, drop, drops.
Starting point is 00:16:52 It's just like a roller. It just keeps going up and now. There hasn't been, like, a constant year. There hasn't been a constant year where everyone, like, loves the game the whole year for fucking. I don't even know. That's going to be a hard thing to do either way, but like, I mean, the last cut.
Starting point is 00:17:05 The last cut is super boring. Yeah. It sucks even more because, like, we're playing it, like, strictly competitive. Like that's all we're thinking about it. Yeah. Like you're hopping on, like, thinking like, yeah, I'm just going to have some fun today or whatever. But like, I get on the first thing.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I'm like, all right, I got to play this game the whole year. I hope it doesn't suck. Yeah. That's your mindset now going into Kahn. Yeah. I mean, that's how it always is. If a game sucks, I'm sure you feel the same way about Halo. If you get Halo and you play it the first day, you're like, uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:17:31 This is going to be a long year. You know, it's like you same thing. That was HALC. Luckily, uh, HACS cut me short, so didn't have to play it too long. Yeah. But yeah, I feel like- You got another chair out there? Warzone just completely overshadows it, but let's move on.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Let's move on, indeed. I do, I will say this before we move on from that topic. Like, if it wasn't for the group that we're working with right now, the ownership group they're working with right now, if it wasn't for the league and the people that work there, like I would have zero faith in this thing even having a shot. But I think that if we put our heads together, I think that we can figure it out.
Starting point is 00:18:04 All right. College athletes now are able to make money off of their likeness. Eastport team picking up athletes, Barcelona picking up athletes. Look, it's, it's, it's been a thing, right? I've talked about it since I started the eavesdrop podcast every single time that I interviewed an athlete. I talked about how evil the NCAA was, how March Madness is a billion dollar segment in a
Starting point is 00:18:25 year. It's like March Madness is a billion dollar industry and the players playing get no money out of that. Some of these players didn't have food to fucking eat while these corporations, the NCAA being one of them making billions of this thing. It's like fucking slavery. It's fucked up. So now, finally, the tide has fucking turned. And I'm not going to say it was all because of esports and Twitch and all that shit, but it had something to do with it. Because if you were an NCAA athlete who streamed on Twitch, you got donations and you got payment, that's payment. That's you
Starting point is 00:19:00 receiving payment. And instead of going against it and shutting people down, they enacted some change. So instead of like shit talking here and talking on, let's just ignore all the negative shit, learn from it. But let's celebrate the fact that now people can make money off of their own likeness. Scump, if you would have gone to college, right? You chose to play for Optic at the right age of 17, 17, 18, something around there, right at high school? I think so. All right. So Scump could have been a, I don't know, could you have gone pro?
Starting point is 00:19:30 I mean, not pro, but could you have played a college ball? Maybe like D3. Yes. I mean like, whatever. I didn't play enough high school to even give you a solid. The point is here, okay? The point is this. If scump would have gone on to play baseball or football or whatever in college
Starting point is 00:19:49 while still being scump in gaming and being paid what he fucking gets paid, that the college would have had a problem with it. Whoa, well, well. Back then I did not get paid. Okay, yeah, you're right. And then you met Papa and Papa took care of that. Back then I was lucky if I was making a couple grand. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Oh, God. Imagine making a couple of grand a month to play video games. God. Yuck. Not a month. Not a month. Okay. A year?
Starting point is 00:20:13 Don't spend it. Anyway, the point is that. Straight passion. The point is, I mean, we all did it. The point is that that would not have been fair. And what's going to happen? Is the college going to lose out on a big personality, a recruitment tool for their college to to just not allow them to make money of his own personal thing?
Starting point is 00:20:31 And for them to be the only ones? No. Anyway, change is here. now they're able to monetize their likeness now they're able to bring some additional cash some side hustles which is good how this rolls out and how this
Starting point is 00:20:46 ends up affecting their actual college career from an athletic standpoint or an academic standpoint can they do whatever like apparel yeah fucking I guess streaming and all that stuff has always been allowed for them no no was it not allowed for them
Starting point is 00:21:03 at one point I think so I think it was not allowed but people still did it and instead of go look I don't know the ins and out but instead of figuring like figuring out that fight how do we tell them not to stream and make money right that's what happens like I can't help it if I make money by just playing video games for my friend yeah yeah yeah yeah no again dude they weren't even allowed to work i don't think Matt can are they allowed to work like a like uh like uh like as a waiter because you're making money then oh it's just off of their likeness all right I mean it shows that I've watched they're allowed to work yeah but like that's not like D1 schools that's like last chance you so they do a work study jobs I
Starting point is 00:21:44 don't know it's just that the horrors that I've heard about this shit like summer without limitations academic right let's let's just move on from there anyway so Barstool got hit up El Presente David Day Trader Dave Portnoe got hit up by some athletes is hey now that we're allowed to make money for likeness do you can I be a sponsored athlete from from, you know, barstool athlete. What does that mean? Nobody knows. What are the economics behind it?
Starting point is 00:22:10 I don't know. Is it just a merch thing that they get to both monetize? Whatever. Either way, Davey, Dave Trader made a big, big deal out of it. So much so that people were like, let's do what Dave. No, just not talking shit about anyone. I'm glad that people are doing this. I'm not making fun of Nate Schott.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Certainly not. That's my brother. But people are out there now recruiting people, right? which is fine by me. I mean, it's been done forever. Now, whether you are picking up actual athletes as an e-sports organization or are you picking up
Starting point is 00:22:44 e-sports collegiate athletes as an esports organization, that remains to be seen. So, I don't know, I'm just glad that that thing's done and over with. I'm glad that they're able to monetize that. What do you think about that? Good for them. Should we pick up college athletes or college e-sports athletes?
Starting point is 00:23:02 probably college esports athletes because I don't know what a college athlete unless they played video games would really do for a gaming organization well I don't probably play video games a lot of them probably well that's what I'm saying
Starting point is 00:23:15 but like if you get one that's not playing video games at all it's like as long as I mean it's cool but as I mean I don't know I think it can make sense I don't know like again how are how are they getting paid is it an internship is it just merch only
Starting point is 00:23:27 because I do I'm I'm super cool with giving the optic athlete group exclusive optics shit that only they get the same way that you guys used to get the white jerseys only they would get like exclusive like you guys couldn't even... I see nothing exclusive in a minute I'm saying that's true
Starting point is 00:23:43 that's true we're a humble startup humble startup what what about those Lul Leland Pants that I bought those are fire exclusives nobody else ask those they don't have the logo on it they will all right let's I'm wearing Lululemonin's right All right.
Starting point is 00:24:01 So, I don't know. I'm happy about it. I'm happy that, that, uh, there's that. I saw, I saw John from 100, 100 thieves this morning tweet out that they are enacting a mandatory one week vacation to all of their staff that doesn't impact their personal times off. Damn, I haven't seen a one week vacation in a minute. I haven't seen a one week. We didn't have to wait. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Last two weeks. Yeah. Sitting on our houses. Yeah. It was your choice. sitting in your house. You could have taken Is to Hawaii like I said you should.
Starting point is 00:24:35 No, you didn't. I didn't even know we had time off. I think that like... Yeah, it just kind of happened. Yeah, because we weren't supposed to at the beginning of the year. Because we have six, 16 weeks in a row.
Starting point is 00:24:44 So you need a real vacation. The thing, that's the people. The thing there... I'm glad that 100 thieves is doing that. I'm happy that that's the way that they're moving. And it doesn't affect their personal time. So if you get two-week vacation, that doesn't get fucked by that.
Starting point is 00:24:59 And they're doing it at the beginning of summer for one week and in December for one week. Nice. It's good. Guys, what do you guys think about that? You guys want to take some time off? Yeah? Huh?
Starting point is 00:25:10 Yeah? You guys want to take some time off? Okay. All right up the champs. Everybody gets a week off. We should all take a vacation. Like, if I take a vacation, brother, you better believe it's not going to be with you or anyone here.
Starting point is 00:25:23 I'm going to take a vacation for fucking all of you. Yeah. Like if all of Optic went to like Hawaii or something. On whose time? Cancun. On your time, money. Yeah, everything. Treat us.
Starting point is 00:25:37 It'd be a great time. I would gladly, we'll gladly take everybody on a fishing trip to the mountains of Sinaloa. If we win champs. Huh? If we win champs? Dude, if I, if I, have I ever said you better win or something? Oh. You definitely have.
Starting point is 00:25:53 What, to you guys? To Hela? That just sounds like something you would have said multiple times. You guys better win? Yeah. What? I've told you you better win. When have I ever told you you better win?
Starting point is 00:26:05 You said don't fucking chook. Well, not or else, but like, you know, like better win the shit. Did you win it? I don't remember. No, I didn't. Didn't fucking work. What's up, man? Y'all still ain't winning.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Like, someone need to replace. Like, come on. What the fuck? That to you. That sounds exactly like something you said back in the day. The way that I would position it because I'm a smart man, I'll be like, look, I'm not saying that there needs to be changed. I'm actually going to rescind that statement. You haven't said anything like that.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Yeah, but you're like, go get him, you know, like, and then you smack my ass, I'm like, yeah. You're like, you can't get out. He does it. I'm like, whoa. Oh, man. All right, rumor has it to LeBron James is going to have a skin in Fortnite. LeBron has been expanding his portfolio in business,
Starting point is 00:26:46 base jam, HBO show. Now, Fortnite thoughts. I mean, LeBron's doing what every athlete in a position of, in his position should be doing, right? Expanding the kingdom, right? Expanding the empire. We, we ain't just sitting around here just, you know. When does Space Jam come out?
Starting point is 00:27:05 Did you see the first one? I feel like it's going to be so extra. Like, I feel like it's going to be like the first space jam is good. I feel like this one there's going to be like, it's going to be super extra. I don't know. What do you think? I don't know. I didn't watch the first one. You haven't watched the first space share.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It's got MJ in it. You're literal. Exactly. You have a shrine to him. I've seen it. You have an altar in your closet. No, not in my closet. Yeah, I've seen you in there with like sage.
Starting point is 00:27:27 So that should tell you everything that you need to know about me And whether or not I watch that cartoon But it's got MJ in it Yeah, I don't care And it's not cartoon MJ, it's real MJ No, I know, I still wouldn't give a shit You haven't seen Spatian, that's crazy That's crazy, really surprising
Starting point is 00:27:44 That's a classic good movie What's surprising is that I learned how to draw off a Looney Tune character So that, if I was going to watch it It'd be because of Looney Tunes It's not my thing That's not my thing Are you going to watch the new one? No.
Starting point is 00:27:58 The LeBron one? No. That's kind of real. No. Listen, I watch LeBron's. I watch LeBron. Like, look, I don't hate LeBron at all. Like, I watch his shit.
Starting point is 00:28:08 I watch the barbershop. I watch, like, the shit that he's in. I only dispute the lies that this generation is putting forth about him being better than Michael Jordan. That's all. Okay? That's it. I like LeBron. I think that he's one of the best ever.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Absolutely. okay we're always gonna have those arguments yeah of course yeah yeah we're gonna I can't wait to have these arguments when people are like uh yeah you know Seth Seth's definitely the goal right like no one can touch him you know but a Beasy is like ooh I'm like no the Beasiness prime is not gonna be better than this company's prime you know what I'm not even close Abe yeah so anyway that sort of that sort of conversation that sort of that sort of thing it's always gonna happen I can already see him just this little hair. Just, you love me.
Starting point is 00:29:02 They're a clown. Yeah, good people, good people. I don't know. All right, so let's take a quick break, the 30 minute mark. Who wants to read the ads? I'll read the ads. Let's go. Two out of three men will experience some form of hair loss by the time that they are 35.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Maddie over there is 24. Has a good set of hair, but that doesn't mean that it's going to be that way. Matt, are you taking preventative action to take care of your stuff? He's shaking his head, no, but he better. Right? Because two out of three men will experience some hair loss, as I just mentioned, by the time that they're 35. More than 50 million men in the United States suffer from male pattern baldness. There are only two FDA-approved medications that can prevent hair loss. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:29:39 Keeps offers both of them. Keeps offers a simple, stress-free way to keep your hair. Convenient virtual doctor consultations and medications deliver straight to your door every three months so you don't have to live the house. Okay? Low cost? Yeah. treatment started just $10 a month and Keeps offers generic versions, discrete packaging, and more importantly, proven results.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Keeps has more than five-star reviews than any of its competitors. Prevention is key, right? Treatments can take up to four to six months to see the results, so act fast. They got to the point when I was 35 years old where I just started doing everything and anything that I could, whether it was washing my face every single time I wash my hands, applying the rice moisturizer at night. Like, I like to keep taking care of myself. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:30:26 So if you are ready to take action and prevent hair loss, go to K-E-E-E-P-S.com slash optic to receive your first month of treatment for free. That's K-E-E-E-P-S dot com slash O-P-T-I-C to get your first month absolutely free, Kipps.com slash optic to receive your first month for free, right? Are you right for this? This is what I find extremely, extremely funny. My daughter, Olivia, is a big fan of travel, right? She loves traveling.
Starting point is 00:30:55 We don't do a lot of it, you know, COVID and all the dogs and shit. But here's what happened. I was supposed to travel, as you guys know, because I was in the podcast for two weeks. When I went away, I took Olivia's suitcase that she bought. It was in a way, it was this exact, this exact suitcase right here. It's a carry-on. It's got a lock mechanism on top. and I was such a massive fan of it
Starting point is 00:31:23 because I was able to fit as much as I could for six days into this one thing and I'm including three different pairs of shoes, four if you include the one that I was wearing on the day of travel. All right, so this allowed me to be able to pack everything in here and be just as comfortable as I would if I was home, right? But then I get to the studio
Starting point is 00:31:42 and I see this incredible package at my doorstep and I thought to myself, oh, maybe Olivia or Jude went out and bought me one, my own personal one because I enjoyed the one that they let me borrow. But no, it is because Away is now a sponsor of the podcast. So shout out to them. Away is a modern lifestyle brand that creates thoughtful products for every traveler and every kind of trip. Starting point is 00:34:45 I'm actually thinking of just outfitting the entire squadron with one of these each so that we can all look the same and hopefully not get confused. I'll probably put their names on there somewhere. Maybe I'll spray paint it and customize it for everyone. Either way, thank you so much for away and thank you so much for Keeps for sponsoring the podcast. Let's get back to the conversation at hand. And breaking, breaking news as we're sitting here, Call of Duty champs has been announced. It is going to be open to the public, top eight teams only, and tickets are going to go. go on sale July 12th for the pre-sell.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Right? So the public can go? Yeah, the public can go. It's going to be at the USC Gaelin Center. It's, yeah, it's announced today. Look at that. I'm hype. My question is like USC doesn't have a hotel near near there.
Starting point is 00:35:35 So. Wait, is. So we stay in the doors. Why are you shaking your head? Have you seen it? Stay in the dorms. So it's kind of chance. I've seen.
Starting point is 00:35:41 I just, you and I were looking for it. Yo, beer bomb? Like, dude, I got to. fucking much. You're going to play tomorrow. Beer ball? You're not going to be in the door? You see a guy in a Trojan's outfit, just walking around?
Starting point is 00:35:52 Yeah, I think, I think the majority of them, look, bottom lines, you can't walk there from your hotel. You're going to have to get a shuttle. And of course, we're going to have to wrap it. Now, the thing, wrap the shuttle, like opting with your faces, like an, like an optic shuttle. It's a little extra. Yeah, that's how I like to do things.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Yeah, it sounds super. But I love that it's at the Gailin Center. USC, we were, we went to UCLA in Blackups for. So it's dope. We keep going to see colleges. Yeah. You know, I never had a college experience, so I think it's pretty cool. Me either.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Especially a big college like that. Hey, bring that shit right here, Hosephel. This is. So is Scott Chance's going to be the- Bring that up, Matt, on the thing? What is it? There's four. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Is God chance going to be the first event with an audience? East Central downtown. Or with fans. These are all not walkable distance, though. I am looking at the map, dog. Look at a map, no. I'm looking at the map. I'm looking at the map.
Starting point is 00:36:47 You're already trying to figure out hotels since it's been announced for 35 seconds. Yeah, somebody has to do that. The people don't get the chance. You're just talent. I hope to grow up one day. Wait, where? That's pretty close.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Where? Oh, where? You guys. It's like two blocks, three blocks. It's got, it's, it's, okay, let me ask you this. Remember the London one where we stayed and where you had to walk? At the hotel?
Starting point is 00:37:08 Yeah, that's the same distance. That's not that bad. Staying at the mall and having, having to walk all that. I mean, yeah, it's not that bad. I probably walk it during the, walk it during the day, Uber it during the night. Just take no chance. Wait, we cut through there.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Look, that's not that far. Yeah, this cut through. They have a mile in the heat. What? Let's leave the campus. Oh. Oh, is it a mile? Oh, yeah, I'm Uber.
Starting point is 00:37:28 If you took that route. Yeah, look, the thing is that the USC hotel is, is not available. I guess I'm yelling at you guys having already done the research, because I already knew all this information. and you guys are just the public, not knowing, you see something. You don't know if their attention there. Anyway, Maddie, bring it back. Anyway, I'm hype about it. I'm glad that they're letting the public back in.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Are you guys excited about it? Is that going to be the first event with public back in? That's going to be the green wall gets to be the green wall again. I don't think people remember what the green wall felt like. And I'm sure that they're going to remind them what it felt like. It's going to be awesome. We're going to finally be able to feel the stage shaking a little bit. the the being able to hear the crowd through the headsets a little bit you know everyone getting
Starting point is 00:38:16 hype Matt was like I can't wait I got a little tease last year I remember Matt was like wait where some funny shit at London uh-huh he was like I love it when I'm frying but if I get turned on and you hear everyone like oh it's like it goes both ways but yeah it's gonna be it's gonna be awesome I wonder how many how many people are going to be allowed I don't know yet but I hope a bunch. All right. Let's see here. I don't know about the top top top eight. What do you guys think? Top 12 or eight? Top eight. Top eight. If it, okay, so I've had this discussion way too many times. So if we, if there was a shred of hope for every team to be there at the start of the year,
Starting point is 00:38:58 then it would be different. But they told us at the very beginning of the year, even before the year, I think, that only the top eight are going. So don't get bottom four. It's that easy. Yeah. Like you knew the whole fucking year. it's not a surprise now and it's we obviously went back to land so it's like people are like well this was land you know some teams got better
Starting point is 00:39:17 some teams got worse blah blah blah for the most part though it's all pretty much the same I mean the placings were pretty much the same but it's like you need the whole time if we're gonna have like a format where we have league matches the whole year then there only needs to be top eight teams at champs because then like it gives people incentives a try
Starting point is 00:39:34 otherwise I just lose every league match and I'm starting winners but last year it's just a whole a whole structural mishap from the CDL. Like at this point in the year, the bottom four teams can't make it. Yeah. So it's like every match that they're in a match,
Starting point is 00:39:48 people are going to be like... Not caring? Yeah, everyone's already clinched for champs. So now everyone's only playing for the major. And like, that's obviously still important, but people don't really care about that as much. Like, if there was a couple matches that like dictated if you're going to champs or, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:40:03 It'd be way more hype than you're already through. They're already through. this is just for the last major there should be like a last chance qualifier where like the top seven teams are solidified but then the bottom five are like fighting for that eighth spot
Starting point is 00:40:19 so like the eighth seed gets like a one round by the nine through 12 play a one and I like that yeah they definitely should do something like that that would keep the other team that would make it interesting to watch the other teams I'm with that and think about like I would totally watch
Starting point is 00:40:34 the last five who are trying to sing one team make it, I would watch like a round Robin to see. I would watch the shit out of that. I mean, yes and no though. Okay. I mean, it's just it's a fluky. It is a wave to get in, but it's also a fluky you know, like if you're
Starting point is 00:40:50 one of those bottom five teams, you're relying on a single elimination tournament to get into champs. It's like, it goes both ways. Instead of a whole year of seeing you know, who's the best teams, you have just one and done. See, that's fluky. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:05 which is like that's where it's, but instead you have 30 matches. Yeah, if you're the aced team, you're like, I know we're better than these teams and then you. And now we have to play them and we lose a three, too, like last half. And say you have like a bunch more points than them or however CDL works. Yeah, exactly. No, we deserve this top eight seed. Like, and then 12th place is just on fire for that.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Yeah. I just don't think there should be league matches at all. I think that every single tournament should be a turn. There should be like eight tournaments throughout the year based on points. And that's it. With all the teams. Yeah, with all the teams. I agree. I don't, I'm personally not a fan of the format that we have right now.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Because this format. Can you give me MLG back? We don't, we don't get any break. We fucking play matches every single week. Like, we had a week break during the year and it was like, holy shit, thank God. At the very end of the year. We were like, yes, a year to reset finally. Yeah, but even then, like you guys were also complaining at the fact that there was no tournaments for about seven months. Yeah, we, I would love if the format was just every team there, tournaments. Give me, give me your idea.
Starting point is 00:42:05 scenario as to how you would like this league to to to operate from a tournament perspective yeah yeah yeah I mean tournaments yeah but I just don't think that's realistic but then league matches make it more I mean league matches make it more consistent in my opinion because you obviously have just a wider playing you know a wider field of games so it's not like you're just going to a tournament you know if you place bad at like one or two tournaments you could already shoot yourself in the foot yeah league matches it's like if you lose league match not the end of the world yeah so it's like it's good
Starting point is 00:42:35 It's good repetition, but also it's too much repetition. Yeah. No, I think an MLG sort of... And it's too many days. An MLG traveling circus should have always been the thing, right? I agree. Right? But there's only 12 teams.
Starting point is 00:42:50 So it's like, how do you produce something like that where you don't have 32 teams that are actually in like the champ bracket? You know what I'm saying? Maybe they do something like what they didn't be O'4, where even if they want to have the league matches online, we do like a two-week spurt of like half the teams or even all. the teams and then the next time it comes around you do like one week and you like kind of alternate so there's like
Starting point is 00:43:11 two weeks off and then you have one week off in between you know what I'm saying? Just like the land league but not on land yeah I don't know right now it's just like we we really don't have time to do like anything else which kind of sucks yeah well I think I think as we build this thing out
Starting point is 00:43:29 it's going to get get easier let's well wait for we'll find the right way I can scroll up I'd love to just have last question that's the question the fuck is that i'd love to just have like 10 tournaments next year we fly to like 10 different cities but then it's like then then the cdl franchise is getting mad if their team isn't one of the two tournaments so it's like you know yeah i don't know it's a it's a hard balance so something something's got to give something has to figure something
Starting point is 00:43:59 out but this current format is the the only question that we have from the audience for this episode by someone that said, they went digging for this one. Yeah, they said, who's the most annoying player to play against them? We're not answering that. And I want you guys who are watching this to step your game up. Okay, ask some good questions. What is that? God damn it. It's a pretty common question.
Starting point is 00:44:20 It's so common. I like that question. Why? I don't know. Just like who has... Who has finesse? I guess sort of like a spectator fan point of view. Huh? I have my answer. Yeah, I think so. Instantly. All right, fuck it. Answer it then, I guess.
Starting point is 00:44:35 Shatty. Hate playing that. How about this? Shottie's annoying to watch because I know what it would be like playing against that. I'm just like, it's just annoying. He's a little rat. He's got good finesse. Here's what I'm going to do.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Okay. Here's what I'm going to do. Next time for the next one. If I pick your question. Was your Shotty too? Or if Matt or the team picks your question, we're going to send you a t-shirt. An exclusive? Should we do an exclusive t-shirt?
Starting point is 00:45:03 An Optic Podcast T-shirt? Abe's an Octet podcast Yeah, Abe's an eager challenge I got my answer I got my answer Optic podcast T-shirt How about that?
Starting point is 00:45:12 All right So if we pick you next week You get one The more the merrier We gave an honorable mention To Neptune Oh Neptune So Halo players
Starting point is 00:45:20 He's annoying too HALO players Are annoying to play against Or just annoying I think Halo players Sort of just know How to stay alive Or like
Starting point is 00:45:26 It's just a finesse to it Because in HALO It's sort of all about staying alive Well so does everyone else But their movement Makes it more annoying when you're trying to like chase them or something
Starting point is 00:45:37 just because they're really they have good movement so it's like they're good at staying alive and they have good movement but you can be good at staying alive and just like hiding in a corner and they have like a good sense of timing and stuff mine has always been on point I don't know you have nasty movement no my most literally only one player in cald 34 have better movement than me and his name was detreats aside from that no one no one hopped around like a lemur
Starting point is 00:45:59 from from you know obstacle to obstacle you know what I'm saying C jumps, strafe jumps. No one had it like. And then we gave another one to A, but not in this game because he ego chowels a lot in this game. Other games, he was annoying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Anyway, any closing comments? Are you guys looking forward to the week and you guys had two weeks off? Who do we have first? Paris Thursday. Paris on Thursday. And then New York? New York on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:46:22 All right, are you guys excited about those two minutes? Important first week. Yeah, important first. If we go to O, we set ourselves up in a good spot. Okay. So I'm hoping for 2O. Listen, all right, for the first time, All right, breaking on this podcast.
