I like just got an optic and I was just like, I'm down for whatever.
I just take my shirt off for the video.
I love it.
And it was just bleeding.
And I was like, yeah.
All right, welcome back, guys, to episode 82 of the optic podcast.
We are here with Damon, you know, Matthew, Nicholas.
Those are their real names.
And then I'm Davis.
So we just got back from L.A., Nick and I.
What has it been like here?
Hot as shit?
Dude, so hot.
Yeah.
Hot.
Dude.
So hot.
So I went from L.A.
from the shoot that Nick and I did to Austin
and when we landed in Austin, Texas,
it was the hottest day of the year.
It was like 112 degrees.
Oh my God.
And there was like a,
apparently there's things in Austin called a blackout
where you, like,
you're not allowed to put your AC under like 72.
Like no one in the whole district.
Really?
Does that actually follow, though?
There's no way that's fall.
I don't, I mean, it's shit.
In the warehouse we were in.
What if I do?
Then apparently, like, they can tell where the energy emissions are coming from and they'll come and, like, rest you.
Oh my God.
Oh, I have, like, no AC all week.
What?
Yeah.
My AC's been broken, too.
Dude, I can't imagine that here.
My EC's been broken.
What?
It's been broken.
I had to come here yesterday and steal a fan.
What was broke?
What do you mean?
No, like, just not working at all?
It's just not working.
It's just not working.
Did you talk to anyone?
Yeah.
What did they say?
I don't know.
I'm waiting for page.
You're waiting for page?
Yeah, Paige is talking about.
Dude, I'd be sleeping here.
That's what I was doing.
I was trying to yesterday.
You were sleeping here?
That's why I was late today.
Got to got to come.
And, uh, okay.
Wait, wait, what did you just say?
Anyway, no, we're not going back.
They clean the shit outside and they tried tell me that like something was broke and
then I had to pay money and replace it.
He was going to turn it off and it wasn't going to work.
Then I wake up today, fucking all the ACs are on and it's working.
I just canceled it
They probably make so much money this time of year
I bet everyone's ACs
For my compressor to be replaced
Which I still don't know what the fuck of there is
One of the things outside
$2,000 for
What is it called?
Like their fee for labor
Oh, that's just the labor fee?
Yeah
What?
Two thousand?
Their fee for labor? Oh, the labor fee?
Yeah.
What?
Yeah.
What the thing?
I don't know.
He's like, you're fucking hot, bro.
They're the homeowner, like, group they're all people work with them.
Dude.
They're just scammers.
Alexis lives in Arizona and hers broke.
And she thought she was going to have to get her whole like generator replace.
It would have been like 20 grand or something like that.
She was like, I don't know what to do.
It was surprising how maybe it's just because I live here, but I felt like Cali wasn't even hot.
Like, wasn't it like cold the first day?
It was like 65.
No, dude.
And we're like by the beach.
Going from...
Because it's windy.
I say to it's like, what the fuck is this?
Like I stayed in like the LA area for two extra days and when you guys all landed,
you all like in the group chat like, dude, look at this.
And it was 108, 107 like...
It's like that every day.
It's like a simulation when you open to weather up right now.
It's 100.
I feel like it's been like that for like two months though.
It has.
Literally every time you look at the weather app, it's just a hundred plus.
It's been hell.
It's literally we went from Chicago where.
it was fucking cold all the time
and now it's
it's just the opposite
what would you rather have
California
yeah I mean I'd rather have Texas
than Chicago was like
just you can deal with the heat
a little bit like you're only outside for a little bit
yeah but Chicago it's just somehow
fucking freezing
at all times everywhere
at least you see the sun here
that's the thing with Chicago you'll go
four months without seeing the sun
it's depressing it was just like cloudy
all the time.
It was clouded yellow tone.
Like dude,
do you want to go get food?
Going out?
The highlight was like eye hop trips.
Definitely eye hop.
Like you literally have to bundle up
for an I hop trip.
Like just walking out of the house to the Jeep
and then like
you have like you had like a little older of a Jeep.
So it's not like you get in and it heats up quick.
It's fucking you're freezing the entire ride.
We would sprint to,
we would sprint from the,
from the laundry room to Seth's car
because we take Seth's car.
little like Jetta.
Ford Fusion, yeah.
We'd take that to the gym.
And we would get in there and on his little thing, it would just say zero.
Like on his thing, because it didn't go below zero.
Dude.
It was cold as fucking Chicago.
So bad.
I can't believe Seth still had a Ford Fusion and he was like already a millionaire.
Multi-year-olded.
Just made no sense.
And then he didn't even, we've all been trying to convince either him or Hacks to like buy a
Lambo, buy a Ferrari.
That's been saying he's going to get a Ferrari for a year.
Yeah, him and Hacks.
He was gonna get a red Rory.
Yeah, three years ago.
Dude, he would never drive it.
I told him if he wins champs again,
he should get something.
But he didn't get anything.
I feel like he still probably doesn't drive it.
I'll ask you those.
Sorry, it's kind of off topic,
but what is your favorite memory from the Opskos?
Probably when Crossroads came out.
It was just so.
Are you talking about like,
I mean, there's a lot.
What about you?
Like, where are your top five?
You have something in mind?
No.
I'm thinking.
He's like, I don't have any.
When Crossroads came out, I mean, that shit was, that was kind of crazy.
Like in the house vibe?
Yeah, because, like, we were, because that's, I was, like, live streaming it.
So I, like, edited vision, like, stayed up all night.
And then, like, we did the whole, because that night before, literally 8 p.m., I had, or I interviewed Nick.
Because Nick found out at 6 p.m. that he was getting dropped.
So I interviewed him.
two hours afterwards it was like raw motion and then then you then I had to go into the edit
and do the whole champs edit which was also a fucking raw and uh it was I mean it was definitely not
like a happy like video it was a great video that an unforgettable vibe yeah but it was definitely
it was definitely something and then it with ending with like TJ sitting down and stuff like that was
crazy and there was that was the first time that was first time we had live streamed it and there was
like, I think there was like 15,000 people watching it live, which was great.
Like, I don't, I don't think anybody had ever like, well, maybe Liquid had, but I, I didn't know anybody had, like, live streamed a documentary before in e-sports.
And so that, that one was a long-stick.
Everyone in the chat, just so sad.
Just F's.
Nick's literally crying in his interview and everybody's just spamming F.
But then there's, like, a few people just laugh emojis.
Al-a-L-L, fuck them.
That's so fucked.
It's funny how that the chair scene, like, sort of became a staple in videos now.
It's like the first one, yeah.
Well, it's funny because I don't even think that was like forced to where it's like,
okay, walk in, like sit on, like, it was like I literally walked in.
Yeah.
And like sat on the chair.
Yeah.
My, I'd say my favorite was probably optic boot camp with Stellar cleat.
That was so fun.
God, Stella was so out of your guys league.
Yeah.
What the fuck?
Dude, he was such a kid.
He was such a child.
He was sticking out like a sore thumb on that team.
Well, he was 17, right?
I mean, that was his first, like, pro team ever.
He was literally, like, just another M before that.
He saved you.
And then he...
He kind of did.
Well, no, he didn't.
He didn't save us at all because we were still shit.
Yes.
But, I mean, even when we had him, we weren't...
Well, we weren't that good.
We were maybe, like, top six, top eight.
But he...
Eventually got an offer from I think it was Spartan the dog's team to go to X games because it was like top six teams only and of course everyone was like wait a second
This guy's like carrying the shit out of them
Let's just steal him real quick
He takes him I don't even know who he
Nope never saw him again didn't talk to him again we went to shit
My career went down the drain
Didn't place good got dropped
I remember one time brings us back the crossroads
I remember one time
They would go over like film afterwards
When you guys were screaming
So it would be Cleet on his
On his laptop
I'm everybody else
He's so underrated
People just don't know about him
Everybody else was behind him
Or no no
Stellar was beside him
And everybody else was behind him
And you're y'all are watching it from
I think it was from like
One of the Sentinel guys now
One of their POVs
And they were shooting at Stellar
And in Halo 5, when you get that like strafe down, like, the way that Stellar was strafing,
you see Cleet watching it, and then he looks at you and Mike like, I don't never forget.
I think this guy's way better than all of us.
It was kind of like discovering Shotsie before you discover Shotsie.
And what's funny is we were going to team with, it was me and Mike,
and we were going to team with Shotsie and Falcated.
But I was like I know a Falcate had never heard or maybe I've seen Shotsie around and I was like that one
This guy's like 15 like I don't fucking know and then well next thing we know
That was uh those were all my Halo 5 decisions though
Oh shit this is a whole fucking shit that's why it's like do I hate Halo 5 or do I just hate every
fucking everything outside of Halo 5 just so that was your happiest moment that
was your happiest moment that was your happiest movie no man it was
so fun like I guess after a while it would have got old but like living I think we were doing it
for like a month or something and just having everyone in there I mean it was probably mostly having
like cleat and stellar like just too I mean stellar's not funny but he understands the humor
and like cleats just fucking hilarious so we're like fucking with stellar and we're just
our practice is just like half trolley so it wasn't good to place as good as you want to
place, but it was just so fucking fun.
That was like early, wait, late 20, no, early 2016, late 2015, something like that.
Yeah.
So it was like before then there was not a lot of optic hype or optic halo hype.
It was like whatever Mike wants to do, just let them do it.
Yeah.
And it was all you guys, like you guys were just, you know, had everything.
And, uh, and so like whenever we moved to the scuff house now there's like bigger, uh,
like bigger space and more people doing content and people started watching the halo team.
And then the boot camp happened, that shit was fun.
Remember when we listened to Vuees in Cessroom?
Dude.
Who was it?
Was it us, Pommage?
There was a Nato.
There was a Nato.
Notto was there.
We were playing it off of Nato's phone.
Like Saints?
Yeah.
I mean, he wasn't visiting randomly.
Yeah.
He did live around there.
All the lights were off and we just.
Yes, dude.
Remember the Drake part?
I got response.
possibilities of people that I need.
I'll never forget that.
That was crazy.
We were like, what the fuck?
At one party,
what does he say?
What does he say? Since take care of it,
caretaken, and we all went,
Oh!
See, that was a vibe.
That is so good.
Anytime Ace was there, it was a vibe.
Yeah.
Like, just sing Ace around the house.
I don't know.
What is that?
What is that about someone?
What?
Like, there's some people that are just like,
like, that's why it's like,
sometimes I'll go downtown.
Like, I don't have any plans.
It's just like to find Ace
And then I know like somehow it's gonna be fun
You think you're gonna be laughing
Yeah like I just know somehow it's gonna be funny
So just like going on rant or
And it's like
Think about this
Yeah like he's he's a funny guy
But it's like
He's not like a comedic sort of funny
Like I don't know what the fuck it is
He'll say something serious
And then like you'll start laughing
So he'll start laughing and then like
He'll turn it kind of funny
And then he'll just be like nah nah
And then like it just turns hilarious
Yeah
Teaming with Ace was always hilarious
Dude, I was open the door.
At what point did you...
At what point did you move in?
Like, not to the scuff house, but into the old house.
Like, how long were we there before you moved?
60-50?
Yeah.
Damon lived there?
Oh, yeah, you live there.
I guess it's not a secret anymore.
No, it never was.
Oh, was it?
Dude, dude, one day, like a whole minivan of kids and, like, their mom, like, showed up to the house looking for you guys.
You were like, and it's you
Shot.
Oh no, I didn't go to the door.
That's so wild.
Because I remember like when I would film like interviews with you, I'd have to like not get the stairwell in because people or the kitchen.
Because people would remember the kitchen from the 60-50 videos.
Oh, yeah.
And people still found it.
We're like, wait, David lives in 60-50?
No, no.
Nope.
But other than that, I never really dealt with anything.
Wait, what was like the secret?
I don't remember this.
we just didn't want people to know that
Damon, everyone knew where 60-50 was
and we didn't want people to know that Damon
and his entire family lived in the old
optic house. Oh,
after. After you guys moved
out. Yeah, we lived in the basement
the whole time here that.
His old family's just in the basement?
Oh, shit.
Also, the stream.
Oh, yeah.
What was it?
I don't think I was part of that.
What was it for?
The one when you guys were rapping.
Yeah, the eat the banana stream.
It was like the release of some.
It was like cold duty advanced warfare, man.
Yeah, advanced warfare.
IW and Kodafar.
Release something.
IW and MWR came out at the same day.
That was that.
That was that.
That was that.
No, we had to like stream it for a week,
right?
And we all took shifts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then we, of course, Nick and I had the night shift from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.
Well, I think we were talking about this the other day and it was like,
I'm waking up at 9 p.m.
Yeah.
So it's like, people are like, damn, they're grinding.
It's 2 a.m.
It's like, no, I've been up three hours.
Dude, that was like, I remember thinking like the week, the week after, or like the day after the first time, I was like, dude, that might be the peak.
I might not get, it might not get better than that.
Yeah.
It was like, we did like, we just wrapped for four hours straight.
Like made songs too.
Even at the lethal in the background.
Yeah.
TJ's like randomly playing.
And we couldn't, we weren't allowed to play music.
We weren't allowed to play music like through the, through the computer.
because of the charity.
So Nick just brings down his beat.
He's got a whole speaker.
He's got a whole speaker.
Yeah, it's like a beats pill.
And you're just playing it through that.
And I remember thinking like when you did it,
I was like, I don't know if we're allowed to do this,
but it wasn't copyrighted music.
It was just all.
Since it's been years, I wonder if I'd go back,
watch those videos and be like, wait a second.
These are not that good.
I think they were pretty good, though.
There was a few that were not bad.
For freestyling.
Few that are not bad.
What about you, man?
What's your favorite?
You don't have a favorite moment?
I mean, it might be listening to the Drake album.
Or just bullshitting in the basement.
Yeah.
Some of the smoothcoms were super fun.
Like at the beginning when we were like,
when it was less of like a, you know,
deliverable check off the box and stuff,
it was just like, dude, we'd wake up one day
and there's like a,
there's like a whole obstacle course
and a pound house in the back.
A fucking.
We're 25.
Riding bowl.
Did we do the Newtown Paintball?
in Chicago?
That was here,
I think.
Nah.
That was a block
I was through champs with us.
Nah.
There was one.
We did a video.
Oh yeah,
that was in Chicago.
Yeah,
you're right.
Yeah,
because I remember
shooting the fuck
out of Seth on Newtown.
Yeah.
And I just kept shooting him,
dude,
he's like,
dude,
what the fuck are you doing?
He's like running
and doing high knees.
Dude,
I think that video
got scrapped.
I remember Justin.
I remember,
I remember,
I remember,
I remember the video.
I think Justin shot that.
Because I was there,
but I didn't shoot it.
Which is, and I think that was, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That was when we, Justin made the, the video that was like the announcement of smooth competition.
But then we didn't do smooth comp.
Or maybe that was fuel oil.
So then we did like a 3V3 v3, like paintball at the end or something like that.
Yeah.
We did two different ones.
Roger shot one for Fuel Royale here.
And then we did shoot one in Chicago, but I can't remember.
I can't remember one.
I know Ian came geared for both.
Are you talking about the one where like
No Scope Joe was recording?
Yeah, that's the one that...
And it was like a muddy outdoor place.
Oh, it was muddy as shit.
That's the one that Roger was bad.
And Joe was literally sliding in the mud trying to get shots.
It was like, it's my time on Optic.
It was like a new camera guy.
He had like some old pants on literally sliding in the mud to get shots.
I just trying so fucking hard.
He legit was like knee sliding around.
Yeah.
And it was, it was a mess.
Dude, he was
Would you guys do another house?
Nah.
Yeah, really?
My house time is over.
But like, it was fun.
It feels like so long ago.
I think I would,
I think I would, like, manage a house
or like, you know,
if, if we get to a point where, like,
we need another wave of generation
of, like, content creators and stuff
for Optic or, like, new pro players for another game.
You want to manage a bunch of bozos in a house?
I don't want to, like, I don't want to manage the house,
but, like, run the content and stuff there.
Like, that show would be fun.
I feel, I wouldn't want to have a content,
tent house of like me six other people and like every day you wake up and it's like oh what video we
we are all doing today yeah like you know I wouldn't want to do that I mean I think that dude I think
those days are over yeah like everybody now when it when it comes like like phase and and 100
thieves and you know all the other uh orgs that do content like it's very like it's scheduled now
and like how it wasn't 60 50s you guys would just grab a camera and do a video and like
like hey like I'm gonna do a video for Bose's channel today and Nade's channel today.
That shit doesn't, I feel like that should last time someone did it, would you rather?
Right.
Or a chubby bunny or a, or what is the warheads?
Ashley said that warheads video that I think her and like Seth and Nate did.
She said it's still, she's still like hurt the inside of her lips or whatever.
Because there's so many.
That chicken probably costs permanent damage.
Permanent damage from so many warheads.
tissue damage.
You're like 50 years old.
They're like, what happened here?
I still have a, I don't know if you can see it because my tattooed now, but a paintball
scar from the 60-50 house.
Oh yeah.
I like just got an optic and I was just like, don't know for whatever.
I just take my shirt off for the video.
I forget who shot me.
I think it was hex just like 10 feet away.
I was just, oh my God.
I love it.
just bleeding and I was like yeah I hop to
that just get shot in the chest
I still think I have a scar from it
my god dude Hector loves getting shot with pain balls
I tip Hector he's down for anything
I've never heard him say no to content
like he's down for anything
except which I hope I'm not blown up a spot
you might have to cut this mat he is not down to get
dunked in a dunk tank oh yeah
really but like not many people are now why
because he doesn't want the skin
he doesn't want the shirt sticking to his body
yeah I know what he's talking about
Was it big old boobies?
I guess.
Big tits.
Oh, that's the problem.
I'd be down for that.
We're talking about that one day.
Still might happen.
Yeah, still might happen.
See, that's the thing.
That's a good thing with you.
You're the single crazy guy in optic and we'll throw you into the wolves.
I'm down for most things.
Now we have to save us.
A dump tank ain't bad.
Now we have to save us.
I didn't do the paintball thing, though, because I didn't want to get shot and have like a chunk of my yacht.
Chipped off.
Oh, yeah, you did it.
but most things I'm down for
I'd do a dunk tank
set it up
Dunk tank would be fun
You heard it here first
Come in soon Matt just nodded his head
There's gotta be a twist though
Dunk tank into Jello
That's fine
I was thinking more like
Snakes
No no
Yeah, dude
Dude
Fuck no
I'm kidding
You're like
Squeezing taking this litter box
Dumping in the water
I'm gonna fall in
You're like, this is going to be so sick.
I'm down for most things.
I'm down for a little pain or just depends.
Depends what it is.
Dude, Nick has fucking issues.
We were in, we were in Malibu walking down the, walking down the beach.
And for some reason, in one day, three seals washed up on the beach.
What?
Yeah.
When you were walking under the neck?
Yeah.
Well, yeah.
They just washed up.
If they were alive, they would just go back.
Literally, they were dead.
That's good point.
They were dead floating in the water
And like you could see them slowly coming in the tide
I don't know what happened
I think somebody said well
When I say somebody it was Teresa
So who knows how reliable it is
Could have been like a dolphins
They just were like messing with them
Is that what she said?
Somebody said dolphins were just roughen
Roughhousing them
Just beating him up
Ruffhoused and death
Jumping him
Dolphins just like
How do they attack them like smack them
With their tail and she was like
No they just like
Like how they like shoot out of the water
They shoot right into
Torpedo?
I was like in that
Well, he even washed up to shore
And he had like chunks out of his skin
I like never a truck attack
I never fact checked it which I feel like there wasn't like blood though
I feel like there would be
I don't know though
I don't know how water
It could be pollution
Yeah, had no blood
There was there's two
We saw the two of them that we saw
They were like
Had it been like five hours old
Why are the seals there aren't they like in the Arctic
On like the icebergs and shit?
No
Those are penguins
Oh those are penguins
You saw a man.
That'd be crazy.
I think they are though.
That'd be crazy.
Just three dead penguins in Malibu?
You're just like, what the fuck?
Oh, shit.
Those would have to be like someone's pets that, like, died.
It's no way that'd be penguins.
You've ever walked around with penguins?
No.
I never met a penguin.
We're in Australia.
Really?
Yeah, they let it me and Holly.
That is cool as it sounds.
I think it was.
You're holding his flipper?
I don't remember.
I remember like holding them.
But yeah, they just all like sit there and like a little.
Are they nice?
Huh? Are they nice?
I'm pretty sure we were walking around with them.
So I mean, penguins are fucked up.
Really?
Penguins are fucked up.
They probably would fuck you up though.
They have a lot of weird shit that they do.
Is it like otters fucked up?
Because you know how otters are?
Yeah.
How do you read someone who's like like this like all the time?
Can't read them.
Hey, you just want to pet them.
You don't know if you're going to do it.
There are some really disgusting facts about penguins.
I'm not going to lie.
Off air stuff?
Yeah
Yeah
There's some
Matt look up
Matt look up some like
Gross penguin facts
There's some otter facts
That are like
What do otters do?
They are not very nice
To baby seals
Those rip them apart
Are they not the same
Otters and baby seals
Nature is fucked
Nature
Nature dude
Like it is brutal
And they feel the pain
Not the same way we do
You don't think so
Like when a dog
Yelps
A dog is in true pain
You know what I'm saying
When a human
Yelps it could be cap.
You know what I'm saying?
You get stung by a bee.
Like there's a little bit of cap in the in the,
ow!
You know, like you're like, damn.
But like when an animal yelps,
you know they're in true pain.
Because they're not capping.
Yeah.
But they still have to experience
that true fucking pain.
Yeah, but it's like, when I see a lion
just grip the neck of a moose or something.
What does that feel like?
Those like, I don't know,
they're like, I don't think that they're like,
I don't think that they're like
experiencing pain. I think they're what's more confusing. Like, okay, say like a, say like a freshly
born like zebra just come out the womb, a lion snatches it up. That zebra doesn't really understand
what pain is yet. He just, because that's like his first 20 seconds into the world. Like,
they'll get snatched out the womb. They'll drop on the floor and a line will come pick it up
and scare the mom off and take the baby. That's like, that's like, that's like, that's like,
that's laughing. He's laughing. Yeah, I don't know. He's a freak. But like they don't,
that zebra, as he's sitting there with his head tilted, he's like, I don't know what's going on.
He's like, he doesn't, he's just, he's like breathing for the first time too.
So he's not like pain, he's just like,
ugh.
Do you think it's worse?
Do you think it's worse the fact that humans know it's pain as well?
Probably.
I think humans are AIDS.
It makes it.
I think humans have like almost pushed every cool animal into extinction or like every animal in general.
Dude, they found like a new T-Rex.
It's like a got skinny legs.
Yeah, she like random shit like this.
Come at me, bro.
If a female ever penguin dies, she will often kidnap another penguin's chick,
but instead of raising it,
she will be, what the fuck?
It's like some weird shit.
She will, like, psycho shit.
Keep swilling down.
Keep chilling down.
Do you kidnap another penguin?
Penguins don't have teeth?
There's some shit that they do with like,
dead, dead penguins.
Pinguines can jump out of six feet of water.
Wait, how can a penguin jump out of six feet of water?
I mean, they get some.
Like, how are you getting that much air?
Six feet of, they got bunnies.
Wildlings.
Although penguins are,
Penguins will cheat. Although many penguins are monogamous, some will mate with a new partner while they're made is still alive in the same colony.
Penguins will cheat on each other while they are nesting and raising young with another penguin.
He's not even that bad. Not what I was saying about. Yeah, they're not that bad. That's typical.
Currency?
Currency. Sometimes it seems for sex in the penguin colony?
What?
Wait, there's penguin hookers?
Davis. Davis and his team discovered.
Bears will do some shit like that where they'll kill
a mom like say a
a female bear has a baby
with this other bear
they'll kill him and make it like
that cub
and like the other bear and then the mom goes with the killer
yeah because they like they want their offspring
to be like the offspring yeah
dude whoever watches this can I think we're
fucking idiots yeah no the female
bear wants their offspring to be like
the most I don't think the mom
I don't think the mom wants that the dad
wants that. The dad doesn't want the other
Bears kids. So he's gonna
kill the kids and then take the mom
and make his own kids. The mom just kind of goes along with it
so she doesn't die. Yeah.
You know, it's kind of like crazy.
They should get in trouble.
There should be some bear police.
Imagine him pulling up with a baton. He's just like.
He's like, I heard you kill the kid again.
But anyway, while
we were walking down,
your boy Nick, he says
he says to
Yo, if I give you, what was it, $15 or $20?
20?
20?
He said, if I give you $20, would you eat a little bit of the dead seal shit?
Or was there, was it seal shit or was it seal blood?
Oh, seal blood.
Yeah, it was like, I'll give you $20.
I'll give you $20.00. It's $20 to lick the seal.
And Matt actually went up there and got close.
No, he did not.
He was like, no, I can't do it.
He was like thinking about it.
He did it instantly.
It is $20.
No, he said 30.
I said, huh?
He said 20 gifted.
Jesus.
It was, it was definitely interesting.
I was definitely not expecting to see dead seals while we were there.
But the weather was really nice.
Was it, though?
Get back to that.
Why the fuck?
I thought it was going to be like 90.
Wait, you go there and it was like 65.
There's no way it was that cold.
Are you complaining?
A little bit
I was in a wetsuit
Could have been cold
Wet suits are clutch
For those who don't know
I literally
Me and Matt enjoyed the ocean
No I was really
I did
It was really hot at one point
To take a pick with it halfway down
No but the ocean was cold as fuck
It's windy
So that makes it extra cold
It's only like 65
It's kind of cloudy
It was just like cold
The next day was pretty nice though
But at one point
At one point
I was like going to set up
like this little fucking TikTok that we did.
And there's like a little patch of turf.
You know, that day it was nice.
And I stepped in the turf and I forgot that like turf is nine times hotter.
Oh yeah.
Dude, I burned the bottom of my foot.
And did you knock it off like immediate like run off?
You're like I'm trying to play cool and just slightly walking off.
It's like the first shoot we're trying with these.
Pretending you're dancing.
With these four new girls.
And I'm just like, oh yeah.
Good.
Alexis is there too.
And I'm just like, fuck out.
Shit.
but we did a we did a thing where it's like there was a five different shot glasses and like
four of them were water and one of them was tequila and you had to you had to take the shot and
you had to figure out who had the tequila and you're not supposed to make a face and luckily
I did not get the tequila because I cannot not make a face oh I'd make a face yeah I some people
I mean the person we weren't sure yeah the person who won it really no none of us no one knew no
poker phase going on.
Yeah.
It was an alcoholic.
Some people drank it.
Then they like took half of a sip.
And then we were like, oh, they got it.
And then they sang it.
And then find out it's like not even that person.
Someone completely different.
I think it is time to say something to our sponsors.
And we'll be right back.
Whoa, whoa.
Let's take a break from the podcast.
And let's get back to the sponsors.
who help us. They help us. We help them. Our first sponsor
is brought to you by Masterworks.
I've noticed a dangerous trend. These days everyone wants to get rich fast, facts.
But when you blindly chase returns, you usually get burned.
Take Jake Paul, the guy allegedly lost like $40 million on crypto.
And I won't even go into KSI's Luna bet.
Lost two million.
Hell, even I've lost some coin in Doge. Thanks, Elon.
and that's actually very true.
But you don't always need to take big risk to get big rewards.
If you'd rather invest in something with big upside,
that's probably not going to drop 75% overnight.
Try fine art.
And no, I'm not talking about NFTs.
I'm talking about paintings by guys like Picasso or Warhol.
You guys know these people?
You know the ones worth 10 times more than houses in the Hamptons?
For instance, art investors own master,
worked scored over 30% net returns every year since 2020.
Past performance doesn't guarantee future results, but damn, I wish I got in on those offerings.
This revolutionary platform lets you stay ahead of the curve and invests in shares of multi-million
dollar paintings.
I want some war haul.
They even pick all the paintings for you, so you literally don't need to know anything about art
to invest.
There we go.
That's my type of people.
But obviously, with such great results, tons of investors are signing up.
And now they've got a crazy long wait list to join.
They only let the best of the best on their platform.
But I called MasterWorks up and got a special referral link and lets you skip the wait.
Just go to Masterworks.

That is Masterworks.

Now a word from another sponsor,
Better Help, something we all need.
How well would you take care of your car
if you had to keep the same one your entire life?
Like Hitch's Jeep.
That's how our brains work,
so why don't we treat them that way?
How we care for our minds
affects how we experience life, facts.
So it's important to invest time and care
into keeping them healthy.
There are plenty of ways to support a healthy brain
like learning a new language,
taking power naps, there's also better help online therapy.
I'm sure everyone watching this, we all know my history.
We all know my history with, well, not really my history with therapy,
but therapy's always been sort of something in my life,
something that's always benefited me,
something I've always enjoyed doing,
just finding a random person,
be able to say anything I want to them,
letting it all off my chest.
Therapy is something I, uh,
I'll probably always do. It's very good for you. I feel like everyone should try it out.
And there's no better time now than better help. Better help is online therapy that offers video,
phone, even live chat therapy sessions. So you don't have to see anyone on camera if you don't want to.

This podcast is also brought to you by, as always, ExpressVPN.
Watching Netflix without using ExpressVPN is like buying tickets to a Taylor Swift concert,
but only being allowed to watch the opening act.
Why do you need to ExpressVPN?
Take Netflix, for example.
Depending on where you live, they only allow you to watch a certain amount of things.
There's only going to be a certain amount of things in your directory or your browser.
Using ExpressVPN, you can change your location,
and then you can find other movies that are exclusive to that location.
So you're basically unlocking new movies, new shows, all that stuff.
Netflix has thousands of shows, but without a VPN, you only get access to a fraction of that based on your location.
So how does ExpressVPN unblock content?
It lets you change your online location.
So they think we're in Texas, but I can put Sweden and just unlock a whole new directory of shows, movies, that kind of stuff.
Let you control where you want Netflix or other streaming web.
website to think you are located.
Pretty much all you have to do guys, open the app on your phone.
Select whatever country you want, tap the button to connect, refresh the page, and then boom,
you got brand new shows, movies, anything you want.
Watch use ExpressVPN over other VPN's blazing fast speed, stream in HD with zero buffering,
compatible with all your devices, phones, laptops, media consoles, smart TVs and more.

Did y'all see how the
Val structure is like for the
tournaments where if you
So there's like a bracket
And if you lose you go into losers bracket
To bracket and a bracket
But then if you win losers bracket
You go back into winner's bracket
What?
Yeah
Did y'all see that?
Wait is it like their group though
Their group stage?
Yeah it's like it could
No I can't be explaining it right
But it has to be like group play
Is it like the shit like CS
You're saying is a bracket in pools
Like there's like four pools
and then like if you win one match,
you go on through winners
and then like the battle out
through lose your bracket in a pool.
It's like a bracket in a pool.
Yeah, but it's not,
it's not done.
Yeah, you're, yeah.
It's like a C.S thing, yeah.
Yeah, that's how CS does it,
but CS calls it something out.
What was it?
I forget the name of Chicago or,
or California.
It's called, so it's like a place.
It's like a place, right?
It's a thing where like you play,
if you win, you play the winner.
It's like you got to win two before you lose two.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You win three you're in.
I won two before you lose two.
Oh, okay.
I thought it was three.
So actually,
never mind.
I thought I was,
I thought I was.
You can make it through winners in the little pool thing
or you can make it through losers.
Yeah.
Okay.
And then like after that goes to the bracket.
So now is starting the bracket.
Yeah.
Damn,
that's crazy.
Because you saw them lose and now they're in winners still.
That's why you think of that.
Yeah.
And then I saw them win.
And then they won again.
They won twice.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's,
if they would have lost again,
they were just lost two.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That makes way more sense.
I was like,
I was like trying to like keep up.
while like traveling and stuff
and I did not understand
but dude I actually like that
what is it called?
Yeah it's a cool bracket.
I like I like that like because I thought it was
in CS I thought it was three
when three you're in,
lose three you're out.
I think it's always win two before you lose
it is.
Oh okay.
Well if it's 14.
I can't believe it's been that long
since I've watched CS
because I completely forgot
about that entire thing.
They play best of ones I think
when they do that.
Yeah, yeah you're right.
They do play best to ones.
I'm pretty sure Valia.
They play best of threes, right?
Yeah.
That.
Not called that, but it's like, it's basically that, yeah.
Yeah, it's the same.
It's the same thing, but it's called something, man.
I can't remember.
Chicago.
Why do I want to say?
Yeah, Chicago.
It's like one word.
But, yeah, it's, I like, I like that.
I like that.
It is a cool little way to do it.
That little bracket.
And I guess those four extra rounds from.
Definitely better than pool play.
from Val to
CS make like that big of a difference
for time to play Best of Ones
or Best of 3s.
Dude, Val matches take forever though.
You can't call timeouts in CS, can you?
You can?
You can? Yeah, you can. Yeah.
Shit. Damn, I forgot everything, I guess.
How long do they take?
Timeouts?
No, I mean, a whole match.
Starts and finish.
Val.
Like one game or a match?
whole match.
Because last map
and then a while
like three hours
there's no way
it's longer than CSRow
no
but they only play like
one a day right
sometimes
sometimes
they put two
yeah
yeah
yeah there's
well
I mean I almost prefer that
one team
one team plays once a day
but like sometimes
they'll have
if you're going through winters
yeah you'll play once
a lot of times
like they'll have
they'll have three matches a day
like on the broadcast
and so it goes from
noon to
eight or something
it just
It seems like it's on all the time.
I'd still prefer that over playing at 1 p.m.
Then at 6 p.m.
Then at 9 p.m.
Or like Hala.
Play one, get it all over with.
Three hours straight grind.
I can't like apex.
They play for like 10 hours in a row.
The apex schedule is insane.
Dude, they play.
They literally play for 12 hours, right?
Yeah, no joke.
They play from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Like the stream or like all the players.
The finals.
like was forever, right?
It was like six hours long or something?
Yeah, the final...
On the main stage six hours.
Yeah, technically it could be like...
It could have been like five days long.
It's literally...
Like, imagine every other team gets to 50 points.
I think it's so fucking hype.
I saw like Nicewig tweet like nine hours and 33 minutes of commentating straight.
No, dude.
How the fuck?
He's like Madgeo- That's insane.
Nice week to next level.
Because he doesn't get the...
Dude, I loved his stream because it's just like unfiltered.
Yeah.
just for that shit. It's on site.
Yeah.
It's just completely unfiltered.
Like, holy shit.
Holy fuck.
What are you doing?
They don't get breaks or anything.
It's like at least on the main broadcast, like, you know, they're, they have production
breaks.
Yeah.
Get water.
They got people coming doing their makeup and.
There's a T squared and glitter explosion up there.
T squared.
Yeah, that's crazy squads up there.
I was like, what the hell?
But then you have a, the B stream is just nice wig in a webcam.
Just screaming his.
head off for 12 hours.
Is he there?
Or is he's just like,
he's there?
Okay, he just like sets up
his own shit.
Oh shit.
And everybody makes fun of them
by saying it's a green screen.
I feel bad for that.
Oh, really?
That's funny.
I feel bad for that Furia team.
Did you see like the final like standings,
whatever team won?
I forget their team name.
But like their kills compared to like Furias was like,
like it looked like fearia should have won.
Yeah.
I was like that sucks.
They walked away probably thinking they were the best team.
Oh,
and still lost.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
that sucks. It does suck, but like
for, it's hard for
BRs to be competitive and
entertaining. Yeah. It's like impossible
actually. I think the way that they do it
is, I think
it's perfect because you have to, you have to
be good enough to get the Sunday.
Like you have to... Definitely the best format
for any BR? For sure. By far.
Because you have, there's two waves.
Then if you make it in
those two, and there's initial like waves,
then you get, there's a winner's bracket.
Then if you make it through the winner's bracket, there's a loser's
bracket and if you make it through that then you're those are the final 20 teams and then those 20
teams you have to get 50 points and once you get 50 points you have to win a game so it's literally like
quiddish you get a lot of chances like you could play for ever and that's why like every time someone
else didn't win i was like quidditch what how is it like quidditch because quiddish can go forever
you just grab the snitch and the game's over yeah or you can never grab the snitch for four days
Is it the game only end with the snitch?
Yeah.
What the fuck's that point of the points?
Just for show.
I never really understood that part, to be honest.
I apparently the quit it.
I think the snitch is worth 50 points.
Yeah.
If you grab it.
If you grab it, and then the game is over.
So if you're down 51 points, you don't want to grab the snitch.
Oh, shit.
Why?
Because then you lose by one.
By one?
How do you get the one?
You have to score and grab the snitch.
Wait.
Is there?
With the bludge.
Yeah, the bludgeon.
Blood Jurtains.
Oh, so like if you actually score with the snitch, is that what is called?
You just grab it.
Just grab it.
It's just flying around the whole time.
Yeah, that's the thing they chase.
I am a seeker.
Dude, imagine actually playing Quidditch.
That'd be sick.
Oh, no, we'd be sick.
It's a Nimbus 3,000.
What team would you be on?
What was there?
Slytherin, Gryffin, Gryffindor.
No one's going to remember the last one.
What the fuck?
Ravencloff.
Ravencloth.
Ravenclaw Hufflepuff?
You never heard shit about Ravenclaw
The whole fucking series.
No one knows shit about Ravenclaw.
No, it's like all the losers.
I couldn't tell you one person's name in...
I was wondering is Hufflepuff?
There's no way Hufflepuff.
I think it's Hufflepuff.
That ain't real.
You would be Hufflepuff.
I took the test.
What would I be?
Slythering?
No, you would be a Ravenclaw.
Rivenclaw.
Dude, there's one like,
there's one scene in the movie.
but no one fucking knows me there's one scene in the movies where they go to like a the soup
it's like the world cup of quidditch it's like so like it's like scotland is playing
oh yeah england in the and i was like oh shit there's like i don't they're not wizards they are wizards
okay but that just means that like what we were watching it on hoggwards is basically the uh the equivalent
of a high school soccer game
Yeah. We were just watching high school kids play soccer.
Why do I not remember like the Quidditch World Cup?
In reality, there's like...
In real life?
No, dude, follow.
Oh, my God, what's the word guys?
I missed one part.
I miss...
Don't you dare.
I miss one part and was lost.
But yeah, I think...
So I feel like the comparison is there between Apex Finals and Quiddish.
Don't you think so.
I think so.
After explaining all that, I feel like I still stand that you don't.
Okay.
No.
Just the fact that there's...
What do you think the fastest, like, series in any esport is?
Like, the fastest it can go.
And then what is the longest?
It might be cod.
Cod is quick.
Cod can be quick.
20-minute series.
Cod definitely is it quick.
Cod can be quick.
If there's no technical difficulties, like, if everyone's just, like, grind in and you're just getting 6-0ed, 250 to...
Yeah, like, how fast could be quick?
you actually win a hard point?
And then a control, a control can go fast,
50, 250 seconds.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's got to be con.
I won with this guy.
Three times.
He didn't even know how hard point score would.
So,
I'm not going to get in the hill for 250 seconds.
He doesn't say you just know he wasn't in a minute.
Do kills in time add up?
It's got to be cut.
Cod's a fast.
I don't know how Rocket League works, but.
No, Rocket League is best of sevens.
Oh, shit.
Yeah, there's no way.
It's Rocket League.
Yeah, and there's like no score limit, right?
Yeah, oh yeah, there's no score limit.
Yeah.
So it's the time.
Halo and Cod can both be pretty quick.
Dude, I feel like Halo and, when Halo first started, it was long as hell.
Wasn't it like best of nines or something?
Nah, it was always best five.
But then like if you played someone twice in tournament, extend the best of 11.
That's what I'm thinking.
A Halo game could get over really quick.
So I'm saying, like, you could lose a stronghold in three minutes.
Or a slayer.
Or a narrow's flag in three and a half minutes.
Yeah, and then a flag, yeah.
Halo can be really quick, too.
It might be Halo.
I feel like maybe fighting games, though.
Fighting games can be...
Oh, yeah.
Fighting games can be over in a second.
Yeah, it's got to be fighting games, actually.
Yeah, I didn't even think about that.
Like, Smash Brothers.
Smash?
Maybe.
You just spike people three times.
It's over.
Okay, yeah.
Like, the whole game.
Don't they, like, not play that game anymore?
They, like, won't let them or something?
Melee, they...
Yeah, Nintendo's weird about it.
Yeah.
But, I mean, rightfully so.
not rightfully so, but I can understand it.
If we were like, hey, you know, CDL this year,
I don't think we're going to play.
Vanguard, let's go play.
Blackups 4.
They'd be like, no, you're not going to do that.
Same with Halo.
If you guys just wanted to play Halo 4, the better one, you know?
Oh my God.
Yeah, I'd go back.
You'd go back to Halo 4.
Wow, that was by far the worst one.
That shit stunk.
I have to scrim.
Oh, all right, go scrum.
And I also have to use a restroom, so.
I mean too.
You got the coffee shit.
Oh no.
All right.
Just, you can go.
I see you later.
All right, man.
Later, bro.
See it, man.
What did our Apex team get?
Thank God he's gone.
We got top 10, right?
No.
No, we got, we came in first in the first wave and then we came in second in losers bracket.
Wait, we didn't get top 10?
No, I think I think we got like eight.
We got like 15th or something.
And Paige was all.
line to me.
Pretty sure she said because Sunday's top 10 only.
Sunday South 20 now.
Yeah.
Okay.
So we made it to Sunday.
10 teams from winners go through and then 10 from losers.
That's what I said like from Thursday or Thursday Friday.
So we made it to Sunday and then we just didn't play as good.
We didn't play that well.
I didn't see that.
Watch a little bit with the back to back to back.
But didn't someone do another back to back to back to back?
Yeah.
Us and thieves.
Both went back to back to back.
That's crazy.
And what?
during the tournament.
First day.
Three wins in a row.
Yeah, 16th.
Damn, you missed it.
Damon?
What did we?
The only thing I watched was Apex.
The first day, we won back to back to back.
And then the second day, thieves won back to back to back.
They won it in losers bracket.
We won it in that.
We went racially.
First wave.
What?
These are the placings?
In Apex.
Oh, game to game to game.
Five hundred thousand?
Yeah, that was their, I mean, that was their chance.
Scroll back up.
Let me see this prize money.
Dude.
That was their like champs though.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Wait, so what?
Now is it like an off season?
Damn, these got third.
It is an off season.
But they do have more events already scheduled, right?
I think they have like, I think there's one in Vegas or something.
Oh, I don't know.
But EA, I mean, EA is a lot like riot where like they'll throw,
dude, the, the finals, the, like,
the main championship, I forgot what it's called for Val, is in Istanbul.
It's like, what?
And that, like, remember, like, whenever we got in a CS and Hax was like, hey, you got to go shoot the CS guys.
I'm like, where am I going now?
Wait, Matt, scroll up a little bit.
Fucking Poland.
Wait, is Istanbul in Turkey?
I don't know.
Bro, do I get to get my sports knowledge up?
Never heard of Dark Zero.
Nah.
Never heard of Furia.
I think Furia is like South America.
American maybe?
Yeah, you're right.
Never heard of GMT.
Did you say turkey?
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
Wait, there.
Is that an American flag?
Yes.
That's America.
I think Apex is,
Apex has a high ceiling.
Wait, that's Jen Burton.
There's so many Eastport teams.
Dude, have you seen the clip?
Have you seen the clip of Jim Burton saying
during the last game?
How does it feel to be land champions?
No.
Matt, can you go to J-Caps' Twitter?
It's e-sports.
Team AD.
He didn't get to play
the last tournament I watched.
Zeta Division.
Team Burger.
I think so.
He had Team Burger and their pitcher's
actually a burger.
Right there.
Wait, what is this?
This is the last,
game nine,
last match,
fourth zone.
Dead.
And this is,
yes,
that's it feel to be a land champion.
Shut up.
He says,
how does it feel to be a land champion?
And he goes,
shut up.
Wait,
how many teams?
Was it like secured at this point?
No, there's 12 teams left.
They have to win the game.
They have to win the game.
Bro, that would have been my response.
Shut up.
Shut up.
I mean, they did have a kind of nice spot, but shit.
I mean, they won.
That's the crazy part is they won after that.
That's pretty nuts.
Oh, I would have, dude, I would have never, ever have said something like that.
Hell, hell no.
Bro, I do not.
Not in the VR.
No.
Whenever I was in a.
match like I am not celebrating until the game is fucking over.
That's why every time, every single year, especially in college football, somebody celebrates
too early, spikes the ball before they get into the end zone or does one of these and gets
the ball fumble.
Like it happens every year.
And I'm like, dude, how do you, how have you not seen enough of those to know not to celebrate?
Like not to do that shit anymore?
I am way too worried about this.
because I've had
teammates who it's like
like they already think we've won
like
this isn't the best example but like
we'll be up
it's a best of five we're up
2 O in the series game three
we're up to 2 zero in the flag
just like a few minutes left and it's like
their callouts no longer sound the same
it's like they're
they've let up like
yeah they've let up they're like
just coasting at that point yeah they're just coasting
and they're like not small talking
and it's like that would
piss me off so much
like I do not know how this guy
well it's crazy you pulled it off
that's fucking insane
how does it feel to be a land champion
just shut up
12 squads love
that's what I'm saying so they weren't it wasn't
like but were they kind of solidified
no you have to win
you have to win the game how are you like
I don't even know how you're that comfortable
no to even to even for
even that sentence to hit your brain.
Like, not even to say it, but just for me like, you know, it would be funny if I said this.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Like, I bet they were like chilling a little bit and like not shooting, like not in a fight.
There's a lot of it comes to his brain to say that.
It's a lot of waiting.
That's crazy.
How do you, do you think they could switch up things?
Do you think, I know in Cod, we're, we're the worst when it comes to like gentlemen
agreements and GA's and banning.
Do you think Apex could ban GAs things to make it better?
I was talking about this with TST
Imagine
I don't know because she would like
What do you mean like champs or?
Yeah like like legends
Imagine that map without Valky
That's what I'm saying
Imagine without Valk
Imagine without Valk or Gibb
It like goes both ways
Like Valk like gives you
Like actually gives you a chance
And then without Valk like dude
You might just be fucked
Yeah
No matter what
Yeah you're right
I go back and forth with it
I feel like
I like Valk's
alt but valx last like in the last circle it just seems like there's three gibby bubbles yeah and then
in order to play for placement the vaux just fly up in the air yeah it's like it's like i get i mean
there's some really cool bubble fights and like really cool like dynamics of it from a spectator point
of view because i don't play competitive competitively at all but like i've seen that in the last
like hill and it's like oh shit yeah it's like what's gonna happen
No, the last, I think the last hill, the last circle of Apex is the best BR experience.
It's way, it's, it's way more, it's way easier to understand than the last circle of
Fortnite.
Oh, yeah.
The last circle of Fortnite is just like 40 people and.
Yeah.
They're all editing and building and, I mean, and that's, those are really the only two competitive
BRs ever made.
So they're so big ass Fortnite tourneys.
I feel like I have like.
I mean, that scene is still, I mean, it's definitely,
still big?
Definitely younger.
We had Tim's and O'bill attorney at his tailgate.
Wait, really?
Wait, are you playing in that?
Oh.
No, I'm probably not.
Oh, I thought you said, I'm playing.
You're going to the tailgate?
Yeah.
You going to the tailgate?
Are you going?
My birthday is Sunday.
Oh, shit.
Saturday?
Oh, Saturday, Sunday.
Two days.
I'm with you for that.
Two days.
I think, like, Jack and everybody's going to be in town,
so there's going to be a lot of people here.
Really, Jack's coming too?
Jack's coming.
I think
Alexis was telling me
that Ninja's wife is coming
so I'm guessing Ninja's coming
so there should be like a lot of.
Yeah, I don't know much about it
but there's there's drinks there.
I'm sure there's going to be drinks there.
It's a tin and tatman party.
There's got to be drinks.
Yeah, I was, it's funny
because Seth was like, are you coming to New York?
I was like, I don't know, man.
I'm just getting back from like L.A. and everything.
I was like, if you guys,
if y'all are in a yeah like i might go i can't miss it and he was like well if we're in
winters yeah you can go but if not then then i watched i watched the them lose and i was like all right
i'm gonna stay home might might my might hit up tim's tailgate um so yeah i'll be there i think
did hilton text you yeah did i don't know how he got my number this morning i sit there in bed he's
like, yo, it's Hillterbroke gathering up a list of everyone.
He called me like five, six times.
And then I was like, all right.
Let's see.
What is this?
What is it?
Hello.
Yeah.
Yo, what up, G?
Like what?
And what's up, Hilton?
It's my guy, though.
All right, guys.
Thank you so much for watching episode 82 of the Optic podcast.
And watching Matt while he was here before he had to bail.
We'll see you next time for 83.
