You start thinking outside the box, and it can be costly, because you just say this could happen or that can happen. And I think it's plagued my partsy in the past. But I'll tell you what. Last night, he thought right down the line, and he called that one. Very odd beginning, very strange beginning of the game with Sam Donald going out. I was going to say, saw the injury out of no way. No, I know. Drew Locke was going to play the whole game.

You and the other loser are texting us saying, this is rigged. Nothing in pro sports is rigged. Well, it sounds like they dodged a significant bullet, which is great for Sam Darnold, right? Because I thought him limping off, that could be the end of it for Seattle. Well, was it like a hip pointer or something? Like just.

Yeah, sounds like a hip issue. But McDonald after the game was pretty happy. And now that they started on a Wednesday, He's not likely to play next week, but they're playing Arizona. Drew Lock and can win that game. Then they're at Washington after that. I'm not sure you rush them back at that point, because I think you can win that game without Sam Donald.

And then they play the Chargers on October 4th. That's when you bring them back. So basically you say, listen, take a month. Yeah, you're probably still going to be 3-0 because the Patriots completely choked last night. Like there's no other way to describe that. Seattle was begging them to win with the penalties, the darnal injury, double-digitly. The starting quarterback, who is the key to their offense, basically, they got some stars,

but he's the facilitator, and he's out of the game. It kind of means you should take over the game and someone's dominant. Mandatory win last night. Drake May throwing three picks in the fourth quarter, that's insanity. And they were brutal picks, too. They were not even Collinsworth. was beside himself on the last. He's like, I can't believe he threw that ball there.

You were in field goal territory. Why are you throwing it into quadruple coverage? An all-time bad throw noodles. Like, no other way to describe it. An all-time horrendous throw, week one. You laugh because Collinsworth being beside himself, like, when you're doing color and you see something ridiculous and you're still trying to, like, keep it together

and, like, deliver a decent product. Like, I even think Tariko was beside himself. I thought that was more significant because Tariko is supposed to be right down the middle. Yeah. Like, he's like, brutal decision. Like, he starts yelling about Drake's me. He's like, he's awful. That was it?

Like, we got to get that call and play it because that's the one noodles that surprised me more. Collinsworth, you know, is going to let it breathe. Yeah. And then he's going to torch him because you got to. You have to. It's just, I'm not overstating it. an all-time horrendous throw and decision by Drake May. It's, you can't

throw that ball, let alone if you're going to throw it, you can't throw it where he threw. You under threw it by five or ten feet. It was a terribly throw ball. But Torrico blasted him. If you've got to get 20 yards and that guy's at the marker, I get it. But it

just didn't need to go down. Throw it away. Take the sack or throw it away. It's that simple. You can't throw that ball. Get the Toriko call last night, too. It was a weird game, though. Like, I agree. I thought New England was in pretty good shape there.

And then it just goes south. Yeah. That's a crushing one because you're up by 10. The amount of penalties and how sloppy Seattle was in the first half was really, really staggering. Even at the end of the game, when Drew Locke took the delay a game penalty, a second and one from like the four-yard line, that was horrendous also by Drew. He's reading a book. He's going through his arm stuff.

I'm yelling at the screen. I'm like, you've got to snap the ball or take a time out. What are you doing? But don't you find the first week of the NFL season? Because during three season, those guys never play. They're hardly on the field, man. Right. You're talking about number one units.

They go out there for a couple plays a game. That's it. They don't want anybody getting hurt and they don't play. Well, I want to ask Luke about this, too. There was a guy out there last night, and I know it's going to, speak to my ignorance, but he had a helmet on that there was the size of... Romeo Dobbs. I hated that helmet green bag.

I know, but I mean, it just... That dropped, dude. That might have been to play the game noodles. If he makes that catch, it's a completely different ball. But all I'm thinking about, this guy's got the giant helmet on, and he's terrified of getting hit, so he just drops it. And you're like, okay, I get it. He's got the concussion helmet on.

Probably shouldn't be playing, like, if you're afraid to get hit like that. Like, I don't know. He's one of the very, very few players in the league that wear it. They all wear it in practice for the most part. I know. I see it in practice and I understand it. It's Romo Dobbs. He's been wearing it.

He's been a trailblazer, man. He was like the first guy to wear a helmet in the NHL back in the day. I actually, I'm not going to go old school and say this guy's a wussy. I give him props. Like if he thinks, say, I'm still going to get hit hard, but in some way this can help me, I got me stuck for that. It might be the future where they, like, technology is going to keep growing. Yeah.

Some type of modified version of what he's wearing. You know, technology and stuff. Yeah, because Rick Wilde is going to take care of it. He'll figure it. No, I, all I could think about, though, and this is more of a technical question that we've got to ask, Luke, like, how heavy are you those helmets? Like, are they, you know, significantly more? That's a good question because he was looking backwards and he was struggling, man. Like, that thing looks like it weighs significant.

68 pounds. Terrible drop. I don't know what the cartoon was, but there was a car. Mr. Gizu. He was a guy for the Packers who he fumbled the kickoff against the Bears last year. Remember that play at the end of the season when he basically muffed the kick? And it was the same kind of thing. It was coming out of him slow.

And you could see he had an eye up. He's like, I'm going to get hammered here. And he let the ball go. and he got kind of run out of Green Bay. I said yesterday, I've not been a fan of his, and that drop last night was huge. But it was just a really, it wasn't a great game, to your point.

It was a sloppy game, but it's typical NFL that even though it was sloppy, even though you got a backup quarterback there in the end, the fourth quarter was electric because there were turnovers and field goals, and it came down to basically a final play, and we have the call here. So, again, listen to, Toriko because this is very rare for a play-by-play guy to kind of step out of his

comfort zone in terms of just riding it right down the middle. Here's Tariko on the final interception May through last night. It's May. Quick look was closed. Throwing it up to me. A terrible decision. And he emphasizes it too. Like it's hard to change your voice.

Like literally a terrible decision. And he's right though. There's no other way. way to call that. It's just when you're watching it, you must be, you can't believe your eyes. Like, what is that guy doing? Yeah. Honestly, it was just, it was a really poor performance.

And you got Vrabel, and there's just something about Vrabel running around. I'm like, this guy, it's just the shines kind of off him a little bit. And that was a tough loss for them last night. And if you're a Bill's fan, it's great, you know? Like, the Bills have a really tough start, but you feel like you're going to compete against New England. And it's overreaction. Thursday, but now Drake Mays got to prove. Didn't look great in the playoffs.

Didn't look great in a Super Bowl at all. Didn't look great last night. Who are you against good competition? Are you capable of making good decisions in terms of your arm? We know you can run the ball. Can you throw the ball appropriately? Those are all the questions going to be hanging around them. A.J. Brown with a high ankle sprain.

That might knock him out for a while. That's a very concerning injury. And we touched on Brable a little bit. I don't know what that's going to turn into, but that's a heavy energy around. That's just everywhere he goes, like every room he walks into, it's just,

it's a weird vibe for everybody involved with that guy. Yeah. How long do you think it's going to take for that to go away? I don't think it goes away this year. Yeah, I don't know. There's always, I always say that news cycles, three days, all of that type of stuff.

But every time they show them on the screen, do you guys not go, that's the guy that has the affair with the German? Like, it's hard to, yeah, it's hard to not. Yeah, I can't look past it. Like when he's trying to pump up Drake May at the end of the game, I'm like, I don't think you'd be happy if the Rusini stuff wasn't out there. Yeah. So now we're playing good coppice and he was like gritty on the beach.

And all I could think of him was like the Titanic on top of the hotel with Rusini. There's some pictures there. Yeah. And Rose were like, I can fly. Remember, is it Urban Meyer the pictures in the bar? Oh, yeah. And Urban never got over that. Now, he was a terrible coach in the NFL.

Right. And he had more disasters than that one. But that was, you're right, that got out. Herbie was playing the piano in his little sports pub in Ohio. Yeah. When the team was back in Jacksonville, that's what was crazy about that. That was the most amateur thing about that is like, I got to stay back and to what, go to your bar?

Yeah, that was the end of the road for Urban Meyer. And I'm not suggesting that'll happen with, you know, with Rable. And they're all adults. We're all adults. It just, you know, we talked about it. They kind of needed a win and they had a layup last night. They missed it. They missed the layup last night.

And if you're Seattle, you found a way to win. Your defense showed up. Donald's going to be okay in the end. You got to be really happy. And now you're watching a game tonight. in Australia. Yeah. And, you know, we think people in Vancouver get pissed when the Leafs play there on a Saturday

and they've got to play at four local time. Yeah. The game in Australia is at 10.35 a.m. They're playing football at 10.30 in the morning. Like, I get it because it's prime time back here. But this is where I understand it, but it's also proof of how the NFL is never going to get that comfortable outside of the United States. States and outside of North America, for that matter, because you can have a game, but

you got to play at 1030 in the morning. You know what I mean? Like, if you really want to... That's the question that it needs to be asked. And maybe if we get an opportunity in the future to talk to Roger Goodell, who knows? Maybe we do. The question would be, flying those teams 16 and 20-hour flights away, all the travel, all that goes into it, to play at 10.30 in the...

morning, is it worth it? Like, is it worth it? Like, is it worth it for the brand? I mean, it must be. It must be. But it just seems like a lot. But if you're the team, like, I talked about it yesterday, the NHL teams in the middle of an 84-game season that got to go over to Finland and play two games, I'd be like,

really? We got to do that? I think one of the teams, I can't remember which one, they didn't really recover from it. They got back and they just started getting pumped, and it was a townward spiral. Jersey or something like that. It might have been where it's just like why. Like somebody sent out a tweet saying that Bradford and the coach,

like they got off the bird and they didn't look happy. I'm like it's a 16-hour flight. I know exactly. What do you think people are happy to be there? They're just going to have a grin on their face and all jacked up. But I don't know, man. You got to just roll at old school and say, we got to play. We got to play.

Well, that's what the. Rams are doing, the report came out today that they have been sending people over there for two years to try to get, which, what a gig that is. You're our Australian Sherpa to determine what is the best plan here. So you're telling me that somebody would get on a bird to go over there to see how they felt? Yes, to map out the best plan for arrival and performance. Well, what did they tell the person to do when they go? Is this like Al's brothers?

Like go get drunk. Yeah, go get drunk and then see how you feel. That would be great if, hey, Al's brother were saying you. Go bury a basket of wings and ten beers and see how you feel and come back on overdrive. Be in Scarborough the next day. Right. That would be actually hysterical if that was the plan that some guy won the contest. So what did this person too?

Well, I guess what they did was they sent different people over at different times with the different amount. of buildup towards the game. So in other words, they'd send one guy a week before and see how his body would react and I'm sure they put him through workouts and sleeping and then they'd send another guy the way they're doing it now.

So the Rams, they flew in basically two days before the game. They slept on the plane. They got there. I think they slept kind of throughout the afternoon and early morning and now they're up and they're pretending their body clock is not

1035 local. Their body clock is 8 is like 530 Pacific time. So they are playing this game in terms of their body clock as if they're playing it so far prime time. That's how they've tried to map it out. So they sent people ahead years in advance.

I just can't get it out of my head, a boardroom with McVeigh and the analytics people in L.A. and Al's brother wheeling in to tell them how his flight line and how he felt. Yeah.

I know. Can you imagine? I know. A 16-hour flight is aggressive as it is, but there are some big linemen and some groceries going down. Can you imagine the John's on those planes? Dude. That Pacific Ocean got hit hard on an ejection button. There is whales dying at a lot.

It's going to be. Four thousand dead whales. Incent. Yeah. There's going to be some real problems. Some sort of like, hey, there's off the coast. There is a problem with some wildlife. Yes.

There are going to be things like on the shores of Hawaii in the next 10 days that are like that is. That is courtesy. People are going to have green horns going out of their head. But I guess the plane they took. Like some massive airbus. One of the most expensive. They would have got the most pimped out. But here was a caveat, which I never got an answer on.

And I almost feel like I'm being duped here. I should probably, I should put my hand up and say there's a chance. This is fake news. But that for some reason, Wi-Fi is not on the plane. No way, dude. For 60 hours? But that's what I'm saying. I don't understand why there wouldn't be.

You're going to put a coaching staff and a bunch of NFL player. What did they do? They all grabbed them. sleeping. Like, that's what I read was that it's such a big plane that they had beds for everyone. Like, all the players and staff for the most part were basically had their own pods and they were decked out. But I read, and again, I'm sure I'm being dup, Doogie, look up, look this up.

But for some reason, that specific type of plane, there's no Wi-Fi. It's like you're on an Air Canada Rouge or something and you can't get Wi-Fi, which those guys would freak out in 2026. That would be a Players Association complaint. For sure. And even like you could problem, some guys have Starlink. You should be able to hook up to Starlink from there. But it's just if you don't have it in the plane.

I'm reading it right now, noodles. Let me read it right now. I sure it's not fake news. Apparently it's not fake news. So the Rams took a Qantas Airbus A380. This is the largest and most expensive commercial passenger airline ever built. And there are enough live fly. flat seats for every player and some coaches, but those airplanes don't have Wi-Fi.

Again, I don't understand how that's possible, but that's the claim. There's no Wi-Fi. If you're flying over the ocean and stuff, you're not, you know, there's no hot spot that you're picking up or anything. Like, you're just, you're literally pulling a David Putty 16 hours straight to Australia. You're rod-dogging the whole game there, just staring at the back of the seat in front of you. I mean, it's kind of crazy. You better have some movies downloaded.

I'm assuming guys would sleep or take sleepers and, you know, body clock. Now was their plan noodles was to sleep. Yeah, did they take, did they leave at like 9 o'clock at night type of thing? I can't remember what they were. Yeah, I guess they mapped it out. Al's brother went out in front and sent them back details. Listen, when I fly to Europe, you know, every summer, we fly to Italy and we take the overnight flight. Take a couple of sleepers you wake up in wherever.

Money. Money. Whatever. Yeah, like, but this nine hour flight, that's double. Well, crazy. But you talk about sweating. If that's your plan and you can't fall asleep, it's trouble, right? Like, you know.

There's people that do, I'm one of them. You can't, I can't sleep on an airplane. It's just, yeah, it's just. So that's not happening. Like, if you're a player on the team. Yeah, he's like, I can't sleep on planes. So what do you do? You know, if the whole plan, the whole reason you're coming in two days early is so that you'll sleep on the plane,

If you can't sleep, you're in big, big trouble. Big trouble. That's crazy. Anyway, Jay's off today, back in action with Baltimore and town tomorrow. Shurzer versus Bassett tomorrow. And listen, they're still in it. There's still time. That was a really tough one yesterday.

We were on the air, and I was kind of hawk-eyeing it in the studio. Yeah. And Oakland's pitching staff is pretty terrible. That is the definition of a hitter's park, and you get skunked in a, the biggest game of the year. Every game is the biggest game of the year. It was just a pathetic offensive performance yesterday. They're lucky that Cleveland lost.

Yes, they are. Yes, they are. But on the flip side of that, noodles is you take advantage of that, now all of a sudden you're tied. But they still have a lot of games left, and they are still in this thing. So we'll catch up with Keegan Mathis

and get Keegan's take on what happened yesterday, what we can expect out of Baltimore on the rest of the way, set the scene moving forward. There's some Boba Shet. reports out there. You have Passen wondering if maybe he opts out of his contract in New York. Dude, why would he opt out of his contract when he's owed $84 million? I know.

Who does that? It would be the worst advice an agent could give. He has been horrendous this year. Trust me, no agent would, the year he's had for him to opt out of that. And I think the language was like, so he could kind of prop himself up on a class that's not that great last summer because he failed to do that in the last free agency. not a chance in hell. People would avoid him like the plague this off season.

There's no way he is opting out. It's signed for half of that. He's signed for half of that. No kidding. That would be the dumbest move. The Mets would be begging for that. I wonder if it's come from the Mets. Basically, we're praying this guy opts out.

No way he does that. I don't see how you can. I agree with you. The guy's owed $86 million still. It's like $43 million next year. He's been terrible this year. I'd be shocked. if he did. The only reason he would is if he hates being in New York.

Dude, 84 million. I can give you 84 million reasons why you could not hate it. I get it. And that is exactly what my agent would say to me. You were terrible this year, and you're owed $84 million. You want to walk away from that? No one in their right mind would do that. No one. Well, we'll see what Keegan could tell us on that. Luke will join us on the game last night. Someone's going to finish in the third wildcard spot, right? Someone's going to the playoffs. And when they get there, you're going to see who are you going to likely play. There are a chance?

Like if you get that spot, can you do something there? Well, yeah, I mean, you're going to play Chicago, you play Houston. You know, like those are, those are beat, like Houston's a very beatable team, you know, in my opinion. You look at the run differential. There are minus 40 run differential team this year. They've not been overly impressive. They're not officially, you know, a lock to win the AOS. Texas is right behind them.

Same thing with Chicago and the Central. Cleveland's only two games back. So I think if you avoid Tampa, Boston, New York, which the Jays would. I take my chances with either of those two teams. Totally. Totally. there. Totally.

Like the rays are going to get, you know, a buy, and the Yankees are going to play the Red Sox. You're talking about Chicago or Houston, likely. Jay's can win that series. When you say that Jays with all the teams that are battling for that one spot, like they potentially, and it's getting to a point where I'm almost sick and tired of talking about it, and we're running out of time talking about it. But they have the ace in the hole.

I don't think another team has. And it's flattie. Like, can this guy snap out of it? Because, like, does anyone else have an X factor like that where they have a high paid, like, lethal guy at the bat, supposedly? That's just been sleeping all year that can wake up and save the day? I'm not sure. Well, not to this extreme. Like, who has literally been sleepwalking through the season, you know.

Houston's going to have the MVP this year, but he's been – you win the MVP. You're going to be great all season long. Judge is back for New York. You look at Judge, that's an interesting one. He's been out for months. You know, is there enough runway for him to feel good about his game come to playoffs? I'm not sure. I mean, it's...

They've been unreal without him. They've been very good without him. You know, they're really, really... They have a plus-124 run differential. And Bellinger was out for a long time, too. That's right. You know, Stanton's always banged up. They've, they've performed.

The Yankees do it every single year. Every single year they do it. Yeah. Here's Keegan Mathis and joining us. here on the Maple Toyota Hotline. What's happening, Kigs? Good to see you, fellas. I've been dying at the idea of the L.A. Rams, Australian Sherpa.

What a dream job, boys. Great gig. You know what I'm worried about, guys, is the tight flight. Like, noodles you were talking about taking the sleepers for the overnight flight. I'm picturing one of these, like, offensive linemen who took too large of a gummy for the overnight flight to help them sleep. And we're just going to see them getting blown past. in the first quarter today. They're going to be moving in slow motion out there.

Big time. Well, in those Aussies, man, you, like football players, as we know, are a different beast. Like, they, I know rugby's big over there and all that. I don't know if you see too many guys who were like 6-8-3-20 walking down the streets of Melbourne. You know, that airport, they better be prepared when those birds land. But, yeah, it's going to be fun to watch tonight. Football's back. I know you're a big fan of it.

And you've been wondering, like, what's going to happen here in October? Are you watching football? Are you covering baseball? And, like, yesterday, that one hurt. You know, Oakland is not a good team. Their pitching staff is not a quality staff. It's a hitter's park, and they get skunked yesterday. We were on the air.

How bad was it through the eyes of Keegan Matheson? That's terrible. It's a bad team without their good players. There's levels to this, man. It's a poorly timed performance against really bad pitching. And I'm way past caring guys that, you know, everyone else lost too. It's the bar needs to be raised. This has been just a season of, I think, a lot of people moving the goalposts covering this team, which I can't stand.

Like, this was supposed to be a World Series team. Let's not forget that. Like, they came into this season as a World Series contender because they went one out away from the World Series. And they had a fine off season. Like this was not supposed to be hovering around 500. And this repetitive, annoying brand of baseball. And to drop one like that against the A's, man, like coming up, when you look at the schedule, what is it, Orioles, Tigers, Rangers, Orioles, Reds.

They look winnable, but I struggled to believe that stuff anymore at this point of the season because the Blue Jays lineup can disappear against just about anybody. Keegan, if we were going to ask you the two questions, like, is the answer basically Vladdy for both? Like, for the Jays to get in, you know, what has to happen, is it like Vladdy good and is it they're not going to get in if Vladdy continues on the way he's been going? Like, is he basically the X factor here?

Or I know the injuries to the pitching staff are key, but, like, how do you handicap this guy somehow heating up with 15 or 17 games left. It's all about him. Oh, Dog, like I agree with what you said coming in. No other team has a sleeping giant like Vladdy. Like other teams have struggling players. They've got injuries. Every team's got their stuff going on.

Nobody has a $500 million guy who just looked like the best hitter on the planet in the World Series putting up a six-something OPS with eight home runs. And every time, guys, it's tempting to believe, isn't it? Even that home run in Cleveland. I mean, he stops, he pimps the home run, he jogs around the bases. People are chanting Vladdy, Vladdy, Vladdy, Vladdy. It looks like it's there, and it's just not. Over and over again, it's just not there.

And no matter how much I want to believe in these moments, you keep getting proven wrong. And that's so hard because I know that baseball player is still in there. That's not the conversation. I think some people are disingenuous when they talk about Vladdy. Like, it's disappeared, he took the money and ran. No. He's just having a god.

awful year, like historically awful year in this market. But when you see these moments, it's so tempting to believe, man, here he comes. Final 10 games of the year, he's going to hit 500 and drag this team to the postseason. But I really do think it comes down to him, oh, it's just no one with more power on this team to change their trajectory. And it's going to come down to one game, somehow or another. It'll come down to one game. And if Vladdy can hit three home runs down the stretch. instead of one, you probably win that one game. It's so easily done.

He's their shortcut. That's the way I keep branding Vladdy. He's the shortcut to the postseason. If he decides he wants to go there, they go there. So, Kagan, we've talked about kind of the negative. There's been some great storylines this year on some individual play. I mean, you know, notwithstanding CIS's last start was not great, but he's had an unbelievable season. Okamoto.

you know, Bateman looks like he's a player. Like, you look at all of this type of stuff. Has there been some positives that you've been able to focus on in this kind of like up and down season? That's what blows me away, noodles. Their offseason was dynamite, man. Like, adding Dylan Seas, who, if you did that deal again, you'd pay him more. My God. Caso Komoto for four years and 60.

Tyler Rogers, like, I have not talked about Tyler Rogers all year, which is good. Like, his job, it's like a punter. If you're talking about him, something's gone wrong. I'm not talking about Tyler Rogers. He's been great. And Spencer Miles, like, that's like winning the lottery in the Rule 5. They nailed all these off-season additions who've been great. Brett Bateman, I didn't see that coming.

You don't want to lose those in the fire of this season. You know, Dylan Sees is going to be first or second for the Cy Young Award. But you look back through Jay's history going back to Doc Halliday, Roger Clemens twice, Pat Hankin, Robbie Ray. All of them won Cy Young's, I believe, in years where the Jays didn't make the playoffs. And you cannot bet on this happening again because we'll get into next year. And guys, we'll be sitting here in March or April saying, yeah, Vladdy might bounce back. But what if Dylan Seas looks a little more human next year?

These things don't last. They don't stick around. So you got to capitalize on them. But that's what blows my mind, guys. Because if you told me this April, hey, all of these signings are going to work out this way, I would say, cool, I'm covering the World Series again. And they're below 500. blows me away. As for Okamoto, he hits, you know, 30 home runs as a rookie,

bit deceiving because he's not 20 years old. You know, he's a veteran guy that played professionally in Japan for a long time. He's got a lot of strikeouts. 171 strikeouts. Swings for the fences. He does, but I know we're in the modern era, and you see some extremes like this, but how do you balance the good with the bad when it comes to Okamoto?

you might take guys is whatever honestly i i think the blue jays need more of this it's it's actually their club record like he's already set their club record for strikeouts and it is september 10 now it's a low club record most organizations have a guy who's done 200 plus but bautista and matt chapman yeah yeah yeah not the way you want to pass bautista i don't think but listen i i think the jays would take more of this i i'm tired of watching a team try to hit four singles to score a run. It's okay if you have some big swings and misses and some ugly at bats along the way.

Now, you don't want to strike out 250 times, and you need the power. But if you could go up and down this lineup, guys, I'm thinking Vladdy, George Springer, Kirk, maybe a few of the guys who have a bit of pop. If you could trade 10 or 20 strikeouts to add on two or three or four home runs in the right spots, you're doing it a lot.

and if everyone else in this lineup was striking out, yeah, maybe Okamoto is a bit of a problem. But I think that his approach is what this team needs. It's chaotic. There's big outcomes, you know. There's going to be ugly days, sure. But he's also going to change some games. I think he's been a hell of a signing.

Ideally, next year you don't set the record again. I mean, you don't want to get in that business. But I look at that, and I don't care as much as I thought I would, really. The power's there. They need more power. They can eat a few strikes. counts along the way. So we got Baltimore town tomorrow. Shurzor

Bassett at the Riders Center tomorrow. How do you how do you tee that game up with those two on a mound? What a light and fluffy game that is guys. Like the two most stubborn men in Major League Baseball out there. Like Max will be out there just yelling

into his glove. Bassle will be out there like rolling his neck around. You don't know if he just got shot or not. It's going to be great. It will be a very cinematic baseball game. Bassett's not been good this year. He dealt with some back stuff. He's trying to come back. His year has not gone well.

Max Scherzer is coming off of a bit of a rough one in KC. This is not a big title card boat, but nothing in the ALE is right now. This is a wide open opportunity for the Jays. And the Orioles are sneaky, guys. Not because they're good. They're not. None of these teams are good. Let's be very honest.

None of them are good right now. But the Orioles have six games left against the Jays. if they take four of those six, five of those six, that flips this whole race very quickly. Otherwise, you're seeing teams that are just stuck in the mud. They're kind of one game up, one down, one up, one down. Having six games left against the Orioles, yeah, you can just put them in a coffin over a couple days easily.

But if the O's get hot, and we've seen stranger stuff, they could actually make this way more interesting than people realize, I think, just by having six left. And, man, the Jays need matcherser to pull a couple more of these out of himself, man, because pushing Dylan Sees and Jose Soriano, I like the aggression, but I think we're seeing that you've got to pay the tab eventually. Yeah, with Sees, I think, in particular. Soriano was really good the other night.

But, you know, we mentioned prior to having you on. We were talking about who they could face, you know, if you get in. You know, the Yankees are going to play the Red Sox. either Chicago or Houston as it currently stands. There's a world where you could play Cleveland because Cleveland could still win the Central. You could play Texas because they could still win the West. Let's pretend they get in here. They go 10 and 5 down the stretch.

They get in. They play one of those two teams, Chicago or Houston, in their parks on a road, best two at a three. How would you feel about those matchups, considering what you know about those two teams? I'd rather go to Chicago for my own reasons. But if I have to end up in Houston, I think that Houston might be the tougher matchup for the Jays. Just because I look, guys, all of these teams are separated by two or three or four games. Over 162, that doesn't really mean anything to me. They're the same caliber of teams.

So you need to look at their top end. I think the Blue Jays have a clear advantage in pitching if Dylan sees is hot and he's going. They're going to have the advantage over anybody in game one. Soriano probably gives them advantage to. They're in a really good spot with that, especially against the White Sox, I think, especially the White Sox. But Houston has Jordan Alvarez, who is one of my favorite players in baseball to watch. He's an unreal player, having an unreal season. He can just screw up your season because we learned guys back three, four years ago when the Jays were going to the wildcard round.

It's not really about who's the best team over a big series. It's two at a three. Like somebody's going to have a guy who launches on you or has a crappy day at work. and that's the season. And I think the Astros have a couple more of those players who can just wreck your whole year in one go. The White Sox are fun as hell. They're young.

They are on the come-up, and they're going to be good for a long time. But I think you've got to really like your chances in a pitching matchup. So if you're a Blue Jays fan or have any interest in my happiness, I think that Chicago is a better destination on the morning of September 20th.

C-flight, you're playing. Yeah, exactly. If you don't qualify for a higher flight, you could legit have a 50 handicap in the C-flight. They let the bartender from the club playing the C-flight. Exactly. Go ahead. Yeah, you're in. So that's disappointing that Duffy would be in a situation like that.

You guys were off in the summer, and I touched on it a couple of different times. The way the Edmonton Oilers and Leon Drive-Settle in particular are talking about Mike Babcock to me is bizarre. Like there was a clip today. about him saying like he's a man, we're men. What was Chris Knoblock doing that would necessitate this type of a reaction,

like a rebound? And let's not forget. The man took them to two finals. Right. Okay, I got the clip. Let's play it because I want you guys to talk. I was talking about a weeks ago. I'm like, what the hell is going on in Edmonton where Dry Settle and McDavid keep talking about Babcock as if like,

it's not even about Babcock. It's an adult at the tape. Yeah, he's like he's an adult. We're men and we want to be ripped into. I'm like, what the hell was going on there? This is Drysettle after a captain's skate in Emerton on Babcock and his initial reactions. It's been great so far. He's been awesome with us.

He's been communicating really well. And yeah, I'm excited to learn from him. I think we're all extremely excited to be around him and get to work. He's just so clear. He knows what this team needs and he doesn't shy away from. telling you straight to your face he's he's a real man about it and um you know we're all men in here and and and we all want to win we're all here for the same reason and um yeah i think he's going to be great for us it's just an indict it's an indictment on yourself almost where it's like

i just i could have done whatever i wanted and people were afraid to not i don't know it's it's bizarre it's like they've been brainwashed or something that's babcock speak though is it not Have we not heard that language in Toronto? It's like we got men, you know, we got guys who need to feed their family, all of that. Like, remember those comments? That was Toronto, right? For years. But he had a very young, immature team technically.

You had guys, you know, Mitch and those guys just coming out of junior. So you could understand those comments. I think those comments are, this has been a country club, and this guy's telling us exactly, you know, either whether we want to hear it or not. It's all great now. I say, what is it, September 10th? Let's see what it's like November 23rd when Drysettle takes a 95 second shift and walks back to the bench. You know, we've seen that in his body language sometimes.

And Mike decides that he's going to give him a jolt. Like, that's the type of stuff. But from all the reports about Mike Babcock, it was never Datsuk or Zetterberg or Austin or Mitch. it was everybody else that got the jolts. So what the hell is he going to say? Yeah, you're right. What the hell is he going to say to Leon Drysigner, Connor McDavid? So they can sit there.

It's almost like they know that this guy's not going to say squat to them anyway. But the thing is, oh, like, at some point, regardless if you're a great player or not, you do need to hear the truth. And maybe that's where he's saying, you know, knob lock was a very, we all saw. Jamie, I totally get it, but you can't have a. both ways. You can't say, I'm this player and I'm this player and I'm not player and I get the money and I do what I

want and leave me alone. And then all a sudden wake up on summer and say, we need some guys to tell the best players what the hell's going on here. I don't get the sense that they think they're above it. I get the sense that they need to be kept in check. Just like anybody else.

And I think the honesty has to come from whoever, whether it was Mike Bobcock or somebody else. But those guys, it's easy to talk to talk. That's what I keep saying. Talk to talk. There's all these buzzwords and every, we need this accountability. Do it. Don't talk to talk. Because we've seen all the lip service from everybody. And Dry Settle's given lip service now. I think he's genuine in it, but it doesn't matter. It's, are you going to do it? That's the difference for me,

is this guy going to play a structured game? Is this guy going to, you know, that's the difference. It seems to all be a moot point because when you think about the Evanton Oilers, Leon Drysidl and Connor McDavid, 95% of the time possibly higher, they're the best players on the ice. Like they're always doing everything they can do to win a game. They've got the puck all the time. They're always providing offense. They can't help the poor goal-tending or poor defensive structure

or lack of depth or lack of depth. That's not a Leon or Connor problem. You're right, oh, but you're right, oh, there is some stuff where if you look at it from an, I know you're going to hate this, from an analytic standpoint, they were getting beat in their own zone. McDavid, Drysidal, those guys. Like, you're right, the lack of structure has been there for a long time. And it wasn't just, it's not just Trent Frederick or Darnell Nurse or the people that,

it's Evan Bouchard, it's Connor McDavid, it's Leon Drysiddle, it's Ryan Nugent Hopkins. Those guys have not had the structure. And it would be fascinating to see if they play with it or not. I don't know if they can or are they great. As much as I love those two players and I love R&H and I love Zach Hyman too, I don't really like, we talked about Toronto kind of resurfacing and being in cup contention, which I don't think they will be. I think they should be trying to challenge for a playoff spot.

I don't think that team at Edmonton is a cup contender with what they've got around those guys. I really don't. I don't see them bouncing back in. being a cup contender, just because they, what, got Frederick Anderson, and they moved out. Darnel Nurse. That makes Edmonton a cup contender after what they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt after what they did last year. They got to earn it, but they've got to play a lot better.

That's the thing. You know, you miss Hyman for two months. Like, it's proof is in the pudding. That's what's coming back to it. Let's talk about it in the next hour. All lip service. Right. Everyone's great.

Everyone looks amazing. Everyone's the best ever. but if I'm Chris Knoblock, my lawyers are sending a cease and desist at some point.
