here's a her medwards joining us here on overdrive how you doing her
i'm well
uh... you mentioned both these teams are pretty much
you know balanced uh... you know when at them and what they've been able to
accomplish this season. They played the Super Bowl against each other prior to this one
and it was a very close game as you mentioned. It was 38-35 and it looks like this one will
probably be the same course of the opening
i hear your go ahead
everyone that's been talking in referring to the eagles say they have
the best roster in football on on the other side of it you have the
unstoppable guy in my homes
what are you going to lean towards are you going to be the uh... do the
unthinkable and think that the best roster in football according to all the
pundits in the states or use this going to go with the guy that never loses
well i'd like that you know i i i i'm i'm kind of torn between both these
organizations obviously
played philadelphia
for all those years almost ten seasons and actually the first super bowl we
played in was in New Orleans.
So that's kind of ironic.
They're back in New Orleans playing another Super Bowl
and we didn't win.
So I've never liked that dome ever since.
So that's my issue.
And then my first professional coaching job
was with the Kansas City Chiefs.
So I'm just sitting watching this
and looking at it a number of ways and the
Eagles have a really good roster. There's no doubt about that. If they can play like
they did against Washington, obviously they win the game. If they play like they did the
last time they played the Kansas City Chiefs in this game, they'll end up on the
wrong side of it again.
Turn the ball over before touchdown and then allow Patrick Mahomes to have the ball, you
know, in the, what, minute 51 left.
It's a Thai football game.
Well, you can almost say, well, they're done.
It's over and they're going to win three in a row now.
So I think it's going to be a very, very interesting football game.
I do know this,
the Eagles go into this game and playoff competition with 10 takeaways and not
to the interceptions, their cause fumbles. That's kind of gets my eye.
They've done a nice job of taking the ball away,
physically going after the ball as defenders a nice job of taking the ball away, physically going after the
ball as defenders and taking it away from the ball carrier. That's big.
And then the next thing is I think both these teams, when you look at them, they're four
down teams. You got to play four downs. The Kansas City Chiefs are 70% on fourth down
and the Eagles are 73%. So you're gonna have to play four downs.
You know that, you gotta be prepared for that and I think these are the things
that kind of rear their head in a game like this, you know, little situational
football situations and what's really scary for the Eagles, their place kicker
these are just four kicks. Three of them happen to be extra points. That's not good.
No, it's concerning. Something else that's concerning maybe gets a little bit more play
on social media and from the fans perspective, Hermes, the officiating. Where do you stand on
where everyone's talking about officiating and the NFL
leans towards the Chiefs what do you make all that well you know that's what
fans get to do and that's fine they have their opinion no I don't get into that I
really don't if the officials when you think about their job they never have a
home game they never have a home game never They never have a home game. Whenever they walk in, it's
not a home game for them. They're just an official and they got to call it the way they
see it. I think the game is fast. It moves a lot faster than it did like 20 years ago,
you know, 10 years ago. The ball's in the air a lot. The guys are bigger, stronger and faster. And if you're
out of position sometimes, you see it one way. And I think it's a replay should be more
involved in it to get it right sometimes. If these guys are under tremendous pressure,
I think betting has become a big part of our society now. That's a big part of it. I think
some of these people that talk about the officials or can't be too solidly break those people lose money
but that's another story that's therefore that their problems they bet
that's only
yet that sounds like a personal attack on me herm i've been saying them from
all weeks now i've never i've i've i've i've got a i've got a standard bet
yeah i got a standard bet
two dollars
you're in the game when you lose
we don't know when you lose to me you gotta bring it to the office
i'd change i want to dollar bill go to the bank into dollar bill and bring it
to the uh... that's all i can bet that's all i can afford to dollars i got you
or chat with her medwards
and say go on barkley's been
he's been a genealogy really so career but the guy has just put forward just a phenomenal season.
And yet, in modern football, the quarterback is always at the forefront of everything,
and I guess that's always been the case.
I mean, that's not just exclusive to 20-25.
Not with Hurts, though, this week.
Well, and I guess that's what I'm getting to, Herb.
If you're the Chiefs and you're going into this game, are you more concerned with what
Jalen Hurts can do to hurt you or what
Saquon Barkley can do to hurt you?
You got to start Barkley. It all starts there. And that's,
that that's any football game.
You can't allow an offense to dictate the terms of the game by running the
football. You have to stop the run. And it's an old,
it's an old saying coach said, yeah, no, you gotta stop the run. And it's an old saying, coach said,
you gotta stop the run, you really do.
And if you can't stop the run, you got a problem.
You got a major problem.
They control the game when they can run the football.
Any team that can run the ball dictates the term
how the game's gonna be played.
So you better stop it.
And then with this guy, not only do you gotta stop it,
you gotta tackle this guy, not only do you got to stop it, you got to tackle this guy with
more than one defender.
And you can't, you can't jump gaps.
You can't guess.
You can't, you have to stay with integrity of the defense that's called and you got to
stay in your gap and guys got to get off blocks and they got to tackle this guy and a one
guy tackling this guy.
And if you allow this dude to get going, good luck to you.
Yeah, he's a beast, man.
He is something else.
In terms of the history that's at stake,
I mean, you've played the game for a long time,
you've coached in the game.
You obviously, you're a football lifer.
What does this mean historically if Mahomes and Reed
and the Chiefs find a way to three-peat something that's never happened in the Super Bowl era?
Well, you just mentioned never happened and no one ever thought it could happen, right?
No one ever imagined that Captain America and New England Patriots just win all those Super Bowls either, right?
I mean, it's just in today's world, you'd go, oh man, again, they're going to do it again?
They've been, what, five Super Bowls now?
Or seven? something like that?
I haven't lost count.
How many Super Bowls?
It's almost like they're right.
You're a Kansas City Chief, you go to Super Bowl.
That's what you do.
Right, exactly.
AFC Championship at a minimum every single year.
Yeah, so kudos for them, their organization.
They got a great culture, I think, in their locker room.
Andy's obviously a Hall of Fame coach.
Patrick Mahone's is a Hall of Fame coach. Patrick Mahomes is a Hall of Fame player there's no doubt about that but it's just
they're a very confident team and they are you know they're focused and I
think they talked about in the offseason. We're gonna try to do
something different that no one's ever done you know and good for them if they
could pull it off it's great because you because that's what sports is about.
It's about setting records, put it in the stone, and let somebody chase it.
Isn't it incredible that for three straight, well it's been really longer than that since
Mahomes arrived.
They have set their sights on a Super Bowl and it's 100% honest and it's a clear vision
Where like every team will say it right her and we're gonna try to chase it teams No, they're not a Super Bowl like if you know, you don't have the team
You know, you don't have the team like this has got to be such a great appreciation for a guy like yourself player and coach
Who that's the message in August and it's a hundred percent legitimate like they want to win the Super Bowl
There's no doubt and and you know the the crazy part about it is that you know
every year you go into the season going some teams just saying they can
you know get over five hundred
can we win ten games
can we get into playoffs
these guys are like uh... we're trying to win another one we're trying to win three in a row
might as well we got nothing else to do
and if they win it they'll just say we'll go get four and i don't know if they were to
next year
and say that he died to do it to the be dying for a long row exactly up
you know that that's a terrible
uh... watch it sure is and it continues on sunday enjoy it her thank you for
doing this
my pleasure and thank you
there's a her medwards csp and a philist
