This is Overdrive with Hayes, Noodles, and the O-Dog on TSN 1050.
Hour 2 Overdrive continues, powered by Fanduel, bringing you more ways to play your game,
Your Way.
Brian Hayes, the O'Dog, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles, McClennon, leaves Columbus tonight.
Marchenko back in Columbus, Nye is facing his former team.
Mike Johnson coming up here in a moment, Johnny in Montreal, I believe, for Havs Sharks tonight.
and, you know, the Rangers, to their credit, without Chesterkin, they won again last night,
and Elise will see them on Thursday.
Different energy, different vibe for the Rangé.
You know who's got a weird kind of vibe cooking a little bit early is the penguinos.
They're starting to give up a lot of goals, and they're getting in, it's early.
I don't want to get carried away, but they're getting into that territory if this keeps up where it's like,
what are we doing here?
Well, did you see that Ben Kindle?
They released that statement there.
I don't know if you guys read it in the group chat there.
The plane took off from Utah and they had to circle back.
He had a medical episode.
Oh, no.
Scary stuff.
Yeah.
They just announced that, literally.
Yeah.
Ambulance waiting.
He's conscious.
Yeah, it seems like it's going to be okay.
Hopefully.
But again, they just said they would update.
But they played there last night.
It was a weird game.
They almost got back into it.
I was watching it.
And, you know, they,
They got it to 5-4, I think it was, and then Kosa made a huge left-path save at the end of the game.
You know, you're right.
I think Rust left the game, too.
He's hurt.
And they were like Philly last year.
They shocked the world.
Made the playoffs.
No one saw it.
And then got pumped in the first round.
And I know, like, Kyle's been talking about continuing to have the stars there
and also bring in younger players and develop.
It's just, it's difficult to be a different.
two-trick pony as a GM in the league and accomplished both things.
You just get to a point where you wonder where are you at?
Like what?
Yeah.
It's a difficult scenario, man.
Well, it is because, you know, Sid is not going anywhere.
Gino's not going anywhere.
But Tang, I'm not sure what his contractual status is or how long he's going to continue to play.
What's interesting is Eric Carlson is on the last year of his deal, and he still looks like.
He looks good.
80% of his prime, 90% was just still a really good player.
You know, he's playing the same game, slows it down, puck mover, crafty.
So, yeah, it'll be interesting to see what they end up doing because they have obviously infiltrated that team with younger players.
They've done a really good job of that.
But I don't think they have the next wave of stardom coming, you know, like Ben Kendall again.
They're in a weird spot, man.
Yeah, weird spot.
And I think they were aware of this.
I think they punched above their weight last year to their credit,
and we'll see what comes of it this year.
It is early, but they're not off to a good start at all.
And, you know, they're not alone.
Philly, not after a good start, yet they beat Colorado last night at home.
Two in a row for Philly.
Yeah, and Mietchkov, again, with multiple goals last night.
Man, is he a polarizing guy in Philly, man?
Just with everything, showing up to camp,
and last year and then rumors of talking not liking him and then him scoring and not score like he's just a polarizing guy in philly
yeah like he really is immensely talented too but just you know i think they i think they worry about
you know his give a you know what meet or some nights and but i i watched him live the other day like
he's really talented player like he's good but i i think there's a supporting cast there right they
They need some health.
They need guys to play better.
Last year, their MVP was Vladarno.
Wall has played well there.
Wall's been very good statistically.
Very good.
Like, they might get back to in the mix.
Like, I think they had such a bad start.
They're not as bad as they were.
Put it that way.
Yeah, that's reasonable.
They're not as bad as their start.
I think they will be in the mix.
I don't know what that means, though.
I don't think that's a playoff.
Again, I think it's more likely than not.
There's only three teams from the Metro making the playoffs.
One of them will be Carolina.
I think the other one will be Washington.
I think Washington will get there.
But beyond that, you know, the Rangers, again, great start, but Shasturkin's done.
I'll believe it when I see it 20, 30 games from now that they remain on the same pace.
I think that Islander team might surprise some people.
Maybe.
DeBore's, our buddy is a good coach there.
Good coach. Sorokens.
They've only played eight games.
They got nine points.
Like, they're, I don't know.
I think it's this, I agree.
I think the Atlantic is a powerhouse, and there should be five from there.
But I think you might see four and four.
Keep in mind, they're all playing each other, right?
Like, there's points every night.
So, like, that's the hardest part.
Like, I think Washington's a really good team.
I think Carolina's a good team.
And you're right.
Like, who knows if Jersey gets hot?
That's the thing.
question marks with those other teams
noodles. You know, the Islanders, Jersey,
the Rangers, without
Chasturkin, you know.
So, we'll see.
All right, here's Mike Johnson, our TSN hockey analyst
joining us here on the Maple Toyota
Hotline. What's happening? Johnny?
I'm up in the best booth of the league
noodles. You know where that is? Montreal
and Montreal only. It is
amazing up here. I was just saying,
like, all these new buildings, I know they don't care
about the press swaps, right? Why would they?
but they build them behind the top section.
So you're so far back,
whereas Montreal is built out over in front of them,
you're basically in line with the glass.
It's much better.
You're going to bury any hot dogs or what?
Well, oh, you know, this would be my time to eat dinner,
and yet I'm here with you,
so I might be tight for an actual dinner,
so it might be shen chen ch'o in a pinch before the game.
So what about this, though, Johnny?
We went to Montreal.
was that? Was that opening night guys years
ago? Did we go, George Perros
and Coltonor had that
fight, right? Right. But
I went to the box
or I went to get
hot dogs and came back and OSA
said get me a hot dog. Remember you're not allowed
to bring them into the
press box. This guy's
stuffed in his suit jacket. I put
it in my Hugo boss inside
the co- and he said where's the
ketchup? Like he asked me like where's it? I
said I'm not putting it ketchup
on and then putting it in. He was mad at me
that I didn't have a condiment on it.
I don't think a packet's out of the question.
I don't think a packets out of the question.
Fair enough. Fair enough. I should have done that.
Next time.
Where are the onions and the pickles?
Yeah. That's an issue.
So, well, you're obviously in one of the teams in the Atlantic Division.
We were just having the chat about
it's very premature for playoff predictions, clearly.
but I would still put money on five teams from the Atlantic and three from the Metro.
Would you, do you see it the same way?
Yeah.
Yeah, it feels like the standings, yes, it's early, but we're coming up on 10 games or more.
That's 12% of the season.
Like, you know, we're getting into it.
And it feels like the standings are kind of regulating the way you thought they might,
where Florida's creeping in and Tampa's been good and Carolina is good and Washington looks good.
And Montreal is coming along here.
and the Atlantic teams or the Metro team, so many of them,
yeah, they're some are winning because they have to win when they play each other.
But I don't know if the penguins, the flyers, the islanders, the devils,
and the Rangers will look good, but everyone else is not so much.
So, yeah, I think if you had to wager today, five from the Atlantic,
free from the Metro would be a very likely outcome the way it all shakes out.
Yep, and that would be music to the years for teams like the Leafs, you know,
maybe like Buffalo and Boston was off to a great start.
If we presume the Florida teams are going to keep it moving in the right direction.
And the least last night, you know, that was a big win.
And, you know, Bob was really good.
And Matthews with three more points.
McKenna scores again.
Like, they kind of played the hits and what they had to last night, Johnny, to get that win.
They did.
I think the number of one thing you'd love to see, noodles, is Bob, looking clean and
tight. Now, San Jose is, they have a great player,
but not a great team yet. And he wasn't challenged that much, but he did have to stare down
some chances and he made the saves. And, you know, not making the saves and giving up
three, making the saves and giving up one. And I think at times,
that's what this Toronto team is going to need is excellent goaltending to get them
over the finish line. Our play, got them two more.
Double special teams, how great their penalty kill is. Power play is very good as well
right now, which is
necessary when your five-on-five game
is not generating a ton of chances
and you don't defend that great. You've got to find
other ways to tilt the game in your balance.
And Austin Matthews, how many times, guys,
how many times over
August, September, October,
we said, I said,
if Austin goes back to being a top five player
in the league, the Leif's have a good chance of making the playoffs.
And that is the
number one thing that has to happen
or more than anything else for the Leafs
to kind of have a positive season. And
so far he's playing like that
I don't think you keep it up and I don't know
if it's going to be enough but he's been great
Johnny what do you think
about this statement from Brian Hayes
Austin Matthews is the
odds on favorite to win the rocket
Richard Trophy comments
I don't know if that was a statement
I don't remember that it was a confirmed
that someone's got to be the odds on favorite
and I would
you know he was the king two years ago
was undisputed
got seven goals
in 10 games. He looks good.
Oh, quick
diss or data, please?
He's not here.
No, we don't, yeah, JP is not ready for it.
20 fingers is in there and he's sleeping.
He won't even answer me. I didn't know what the hell was.
He's sick.
JP is sick today. We can't, you know,
so are you going to fire some disordata at me?
Diss or data. Yes.
Because I actually, from one of the reason,
was going down a rabbit hole today and just plugging away
different numbers.
And Austin off to this great start.
A lot of the numbers are back up.
Expected goals, you know, obviously the points are there.
The defensive stuff is there.
But his individual expected goals for relative to when he was scoring 70 is like half as much.
So basically today, in the eight, nine, ten games he's played this year, his expected
goals for himself, half as much as when he scored 70.
So he's playing great, but he's not just.
generating near the amount of chances he was when he was scoring and winning rockets.
So that's the biggest contributing factor to that.
He still doesn't get the puck in enough shooting positions sometimes on the power play.
And I think he's grown into more of a passer.
You know what I mean?
Like he's got a better passing feel right now where his plays into the slot for high
danger chances way up.
But plays for himself, way down.
So I'd say point total, he might get to 110.
But goal total, I would not put him as the favorite.
Okay.
Well, yeah, I mean, that's very good disser data, very good disser data.
But again, someone's got to be the odds-on favorite.
And, you know, coming into the season, I think I predicted Dry Settle would win it.
He still very well could.
Obviously, McDavid's going to score McKinnon won it last year.
Caprisoffs off through a great start.
But the winner was, what did Nate have, 53, 54 last year?
you know if if austin is in the range that based on his history based on him at his best i'd still
say that he should be as of now based on what he's shown yeah i think he's he's the odds on favorite
for me i'm not i'm not saying that's the case in vegas you know but can you just clarify the
odds on that means the shortest odds that means he's plus 300 caprice house plus 400 let's just
simplify it. He's the favorite.
Yeah, exactly. That's another way
of putting it. Exactly. And that's
my own book. But favorite does not imply
that's not greater than a
50% chance. Yeah, it's not guaranteed.
Yeah, exactly. Nothing's
guaranteed. I mean, it's not the
equivalent of... Go ahead.
Can we have a quick
Jerry's percentages of Hasey's confidence
level if we run back some of
the inflammatory McDavid comments
over the years? You'll never
get 150 points again.
He'll never get 150 again.
He'll never win a heart again.
He apologized to Jesus yesterday.
I made him.
I made him.
A couple of things that feel...
What do you have to say?
It's a crazy...
Because you guys keep changing the goalposts, the move to goalposts.
I said it's very unlikely he wins another heart again based on his age, based on history.
And I get McKinnon's older, Kutrov's older, I understand that.
So obviously, there are recent examples.
samples, but it's not easy to win the heart.
I get a great year last year. He didn't win it.
You know, like, I'm still one for one on that take.
He didn't win it. And guess what? They don't hand it out on October 20th, guys.
It's a long season.
Long season. It's a long season.
You have to pursue health, too, guys.
Exactly. You sound very defensive, Hayes.
I am very defensive right now.
Because I always get labeled as the, like, yesterday, and this is our own guys doing this.
I go, well, you know, McDavid's obviously not going to.
to break Gradsky's record.
And then it's like Hayes weighs in on McDavid.
It's like I'm taking a shot at the guy.
Like, of course he's not going to go for 215.
Of course not.
Exactly.
You know, and that's like, but he is obviously the best player in the world.
I vote him number one every year in our TSA thing.
And right now he's on pace to blow past his career numbers.
Not goals.
I think that's important to point out, not goals right now.
But points.
Yeah.
He's, he, he, he, he,
He couldn't hit 165 points this year.
He might do that.
His primary points are through the roof.
You say goals, but just points as though they're, he has like 20 primaries.
Very few secondary assists, almost all primaries.
And at five on five, Hazie, when do we talk about McDavid for the Selke?
With his 18 goals four and two against, at 5 on 5, 18, 4 and two against, what's the points?
Like, and, and.
top minute penalty killer
yeah I'm just
when do we when does oh get to put that
on the railway man so is this the best he's ever played
in your opinion best he's ever played
well
I mean I think there's been moments in the playoffs because of what's at
stake the year he won the cons fight as a loser
there's probably been moments there
but I mean I don't know if you could go through a better
it's only been 10 eight games or whatever
but or 10 games
but, I mean, he's been plus every single game.
Every single game with a year.
He's been a plus player, which I know doesn't matter, but is indicative.
It's like crazy the stats he's put up.
I don't know if he's ever had a regular season, better eight-game stretch, ever.
Is it possible that this guy could pull off a queen's sweep?
Like the rocket, the Selky, the heart, that, like just open up his trunk of his range rover and throw all the trophies in.
Give him the lady Bing.
Holy.
What's the most anybody's one in the season?
Yeah, what is the most?
Gretz probably won the heart, the Art Ross,
and maybe the Lady Bing one time.
Did Gretz ever win the Lady Bing?
Probably.
Great question.
And they never had the player voting one, right?
They never had the player voting one back then.
Yeah.
Ted Lindsay.
Yeah, the Lindsay.
Yeah.
So give him the Lindsay, the heart, the Ross.
That's three.
Well, he's already done that before.
Then you're, yes.
He's done that before.
That's child's play.
Right.
Like Gretzky probably tacked on it.
The Selke is a stretch.
A cons my reputation for McDavid.
I know, but let's make it happen.
Let's make it happen for the whole ball of wax.
The rocket, the Selky, all of it.
Oh, that's amazing.
I'm going to use the words of Rick Talkett, remember, where he said,
I think our D are getting a little.
little horny.
Did he say that?
Yeah, eventually.
He didn't want to go there.
We're not even,
Evanton's eight games in.
I know, Jamie.
But it's okay to talk.
It's okay to dream because he's that good.
Let's just breathe a bit.
Yes, McDavid's been amazing.
There's been some great performances here.
And Babcock was asked about it this morning.
He said, I'm most impressed by his plus 19.
And he said, like, he goes, the guy's been.
Plus just does that for show, though.
He always says that.
Yeah.
But, I mean, it's interesting.
Like, Evanton's got a good test against Minnesota.
Minnesota is a hell of a team.
And that caprice up, that top line is as good as any line in the league in Minnesota.
So that, that'll be a good test for them.
All right.
All right.
Look at us.
Matthews.
Yeah, everyone's just clear.
It's like five years ago.
Oh, yeah.
Matthews of McDavid.
One, two, whatever.
There they go again?
Dominating everything.
Well, yeah, we'll see.
You know, in terms of what's coming this week, Johnny, like Marchenko and Nyes tonight,
and it's clearly Nyes would have the chip on his shoulder more than Marchenko.
Marchenko got what he wanted.
Sure.
I don't, even his comments today make it sound like he is dying to be back in Toronto.
He's just not.
I don't know.
It's not dying to be back in Toronto, guys.
He's just taken back where he's like they were just seemed like they were dying to do it.
And that doesn't make a guy feel good, Johnny.
now it hurts a little bit
I got traded at Toronto
my first trade I got traded to Tampa
not as good of a team different kind of market
I got to play a ton
I was immediately the first line winger
which might have been good for my career
but yeah you kind of look back
longingly like I kind of like that good team
that I was sort of comfortable with
and then they come to town and I appreciate him
sort of being kind of candid it's not easy for him
because he didn't want to leave he totally wanted to stay
so we'll see I mean Marchenko guys
he's going to get food there I guess
I mean, he basically said I won't extend here.
He didn't ask to get traded, but just said I won't.
Kind of like Quinn Hughes.
I'm not going to come back when I'm done.
So he'll probably take some booze.
But guys, I'm not talking to you before tomorrow.
Is Brady Kachuk, how vitriolic.
Hey, I know how you feel about this.
Oh, noodles.
Do you think it's going to get particularly nasty in Ottawa?
I think there be some, like they were talking, I think, on their podcast
that every jersey that gets thrown over the glass, they're going to donate to
How is that his call?
What happens with the jersey on the ice?
You know, I think that's just Matthew pressing buttons.
It has to be.
Like, are people going to throw jerseys over?
Like, are they going to throw jerseys over?
Yes.
Would it be, like, you think fans will pull over?
It's over money, but sure.
Somebody said the other day they're going to boo the anthem.
Like, aren't we over that?
Or are people still being doing that type of stuff?
I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
I would not be surprised if it happened.
Like, they can boo him.
You get 20,000 people with 10 beers in them.
They're going to do whatever they want.
Yeah, that's fair.
Ding, ding, ding.
Yeah.
And the vitriol, I think, it'll be loud there.
But, you know, they're talking about 2,000 seats still available.
I think it'll be full.
That's scary, man.
That's a tough luck.
That's really scary.
Yeah.
But, you know, at the end of the day, you've got to go through it.
You know, Brady's moved on.
I think they're going to have to move on tomorrow after the game.
And, you know, Ottawa's got to keep shrugging along.
You know, they're a good team, and they're a good team without them, too.
That's the thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Injuries on both sides, right?
Markstrom's banged up now for Florida.
And, you know, Shabbat's out.
Eklund's going to be out long-term for Ottawa.
Like, teams are just trying to grind.
Barkov's still out.
Marchand's still out.
So it's not easy right now for teams in the league.
Hey, Z.
Can I just ask noodles about how much it takes out of a guy to travel to back up?
Like, they're bringing Acta Amoff to go to Columbus to back up tonight,
so Bob presumably gets to sleep in his own bed and show.
Noodles loves it.
Hold on.
I didn't say I loved it.
I'm kind of joking around, but I'm kind of being serious.
I guess it's more convenient not to have to go because you don't have to travel,
there's some altitude, whatever dehydration.
But, yeah, now.
You're just sitting there.
You're not doing anything.
I don't know what it is.
Maybe it's sports science going, like, we've got three, give Octiama a little, you know, a day in the NHL pay, that type of stuff.
But I don't think it's that stressful.
Like, you know, you're sleep in a hotel.
Columbus, 65 minutes in the air.
Like, it's nothing.
I think what it is, you play last night, you get in at, you're going to go to bed at 2.30 in the morning.
Bob just drives to his house.
goes to bed, wakes up, and doesn't worry about it.
I think what they're trying to do is just load manage a 38-year-old.
I don't know.
We're seeing it now.
Keep in mind, 84 games, 38 years old.
Like, we see it in basketball all the time.
God forbid somebody plays back-to-back in basketball.
Like, you know, it's a...
I don't know.
I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I...
He's not playing back-to-back.
He's just traveling back-to-back.
He's not playing back.
the back.
He's just sitting there.
It's very modest.
And the other part about it, guys, without getting too far down the rabbit hole,
like, if you're in like the tagging area, every dollar save below the cap you can use
later on.
So by bringing another player up and paying him as a third goalie, you're chewing into
flexibility that you could maybe use later on down the road.
So there is an element of that.
It's not just, oh, it's nice to pay them.
It comes at a cost more than just a dollar, but also cap dollars and all the rest.
So I don't hate it, but it seems like we're three weeks in.
It's awfully early to be going down this road.
Hopefully it works.
Hopefully he plays great on Thursday.
Would he, like today would have been an optional skate that probably no one took, I'm guessing.
But would there be an obligation for him to get dressed and take shots this morning?
Well, usually, yes, the backup does, but you're right.
They might be like, we don't want, if Stolars takes it off, then they need a, you know,
I guess their ebug or their traveling goaltender would, would, would,
do that, right? So nowadays, they've got access to other guys, but usually the backup or whoever's
not playing that night would skate for the optional for injured guys and extra guys or guys who
want to skate in the morning. So maybe that that was something. You're right. You're on to something.
Every puck counts. Every stop counts. E bug.
E bug. I know. E bug. I agree. Crazy. All right, Johnny. Well, we'll see what's happening here
tonight. It'll be interesting celebrating
at the Bell Center. Again,
Leaves Columbus and then tomorrow, Brady
back home, Quinn Hughes back to Vancouver
later in the week. There's a lot
of energy in the league right now, man. There's a lot
going on. So it should be a fun night.
Enjoy it, and we'll do it again later in the week.
All right, fellas. Talk you later. There he is. Mike
Johnson, our TSN hockey analyst,
joining us here on the Maple Toyota
Hotline. It's time to Toyota. Check out the
Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra pickup trucks.
Both available as hybrid.
it's Maple Tota near Canada's Wonderland of the Maple Auto Mall.
Best bets later in the hour.
The NBA's back tonight.
Sounds like LeBron will be on a minute's restriction early in the year.
So will Joel Embedde.
I love how Embedde gets rolled into that because the guy is just always hurt.
They're always concerned about it.
Guys, I get it.
Like, the guys are fitter, but I don't know.
It just seems like playing the 82 games or whatever it is,
or if you're not going to play, you've got to fly to Columbus.
it just seems like that's part of the deal.
Like, that's part of the gig.
I agree.
You've got to get on the bird.
Suck it up.
Like, you're not 100 years old.
You're 38 years old.
You know what?
I will.
The only thing I can speak to, it happened to me once.
I started a game in Vancouver,
and they sent Ron Hextall, who was going to play the next night to San Jose,
so that he could get in and have a decent.
and sleep. So they called somebody up. I can't remember who it was. I think it was Tom Draper and backed me up in Vancouver and then I flew with the team the next day and they sent Draper back down and heck he was in San Jose wait for us. That was in 1994. Remember that name? Tommy Draper? No. I've never heard that name in my life. Me neither. He played for Buffalo and he played for the Islanders. Okay. Like a little bit like just a little bit. But I'm pretty sure it was Tom Draper that came up. I played in Vancouver.
Vancouver and then Hexie went on to San Jose.
And I was supposed to start in San Jose, but my brother lived out there.
And I think Al Arbor was like, you can start on the front end and Hexie'll start on the
back end.
There you go.
It's pretty cool.
Very cool.
And that was back before cell phones.
1994.
Yeah.
He may have been playing Pebble Beach all day, 36 holes.
Well, you never know with Hexie.
It's so great.
Yeah, go ahead and really get a good sleeping.
Guys just buckled playing.
know, Cyprus point.
Yeah, who knows.
But that's so great.
That happened to me in 1994.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, listen, and I think it's important to clarify, Bob is not, this isn't, he didn't
negotiate this in his contract.
The Leafs are doing this.
That's right.
This is Andy O'Brien, right?
And the Leafs, Sam, this is what we're going to do.
They looked at him yesterday morning and they looked at his eyeballs and they're like,
we think you should stay back in Toronto.
You're staying back.
you're staying back and listen the way bob played last night all right i love it like he's he was
great last night and stolors is going to have to be very good tonight and he owes him a start right
not a win but a better start last that is the counter to what i just mentioned a couple minutes ago
brian about it just being part of the gig if a guy says i'm not going to columbus because i'm not
getting on the bird and i'll feel better and i'll be dynamite on thursday night you go ahead and do the hell
what, do the hell whatever the hell you want.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's true. I don't care.
Some guys had to go out the night before the game to blow off steam.
They played better.
Go ahead. I don't care. Nobody cares.
Do what you got to do.
Do whatever you got to do as long as you perform.
Exactly.
And this is, again, another example here.
It's early and things very well could change.
But Stolar's is a backup to start the year.
Like he hasn't started a game since last Tuesday in Utah.
He's playing once a week right now.
now.
So, you know, and he's not playing Thursday.
I don't think he's playing against Edmonton on Saturday.
He'll get a start in Western Canada, for sure.
But he is a backup right now.
Well, if he plays like he did in Utah, his playing options will be limited because they're like,
oh, yeah, they'll do everything in their power to keep Bob healthy if he continues,
if he plays like the last performance.
I think you'll play better tonight.
I think you'll see a good, you know, a better performance tonight.
I'm with you, Noodles, but even the Nashville game, I think, was on the Tuesday night.
Like, he's playing every Tuesday.
That's when he plays.
It's like Tuesday, Nashville, Tuesday, Utah, Tuesday, Columbus, which is supposed to be better for him, right?
Like, that's, I think, strategic, right?
Hasn't that Columbus game been a house of horrors the last couple years?
Yeah, they struggled in Columbus.
Then last year was Buffalo Columbus, and they got smoked both games.
It was hell to be that it went in there and that, I think they're,
They've had a couple.
I think it was Hildeby and somebody, maybe it was not their regular goal tenders for some reason.
I think it was Hildaby that had a really rough game in there one night.
Yeah, you could be right.
And listen, Columbus is not a good start.
Rick Bonas, their coach not happy with anything.
Yeah, no.
That's true.
So they've only played seven games.
They're waiting to go.
You know, Columbus will be ready to play tonight.
Yeah.
All right.
Some more on that later in the hour.
Some more confirm it than I's best bets coming up.

Have you guys seen this poor dude?
And I want to hear your thoughts before I share mine on this.
Have you seen the BYU guy video where he's at the football game and he's kind of lip-syncing to Justin Bieber?
Have you not seen this guy getting torched online?
No, I've not seen it.
I have seen that.
Joe, can you fire this up for Hazy?
because I just want to get your thoughts.
If it was one of us that did this,
I want to know what you guys would say about it.
Let's say I fired up this video.
Go ahead, Joe, play this if you got this thing.
This guy's at a BYU football game.
And he fires this one.
So he's doing a selfie video through the crowd?
Yeah, and it's, yeah, like people were destroying this guy
because he's like, this is a grown-ass man at a college football game.
You know what I want?
Watch to the end.
Watch to the end.
Watch to the end.
Like he's into it?
I don't know, man.
I don't need to see the end.
This is painful.
So you think if I posted that video at a Leaf Game Hays, you'd be like.
This is what you're doing.
This is old dog or Al's brother walking through the crowd.
I don't know.
This guy is getting destroyed so bad.
online that's enough joe but i gotta tell you i think it's i think it's a cool song it's a cool vid
like haze if you posted that at a leaf game i'd be like beauty and a beat
throw them down the stairs that's what's what it happened so if i did that you would call me and
say what the hell do you think you're doing yeah it's it's cringy it's really unnecessary the
guy's got a weird gold chain on i i want to see somebody do it for us now at a leaf game
Walked down.
Al's brother would do something like that.
Of course he would.
Al's brother is somewhere.
I'm going to recreate that video, man.
I got to get to a game and recreate that video.
Listen, I don't advocate for nastiness online because we're all, we all take our own heat.
Every day.
Every day.
Every day someone writes something that is very unnecessary.
I block hundreds of people a day.
It is so ruthless online.
And I like having conversations.
It's the best.
say, oh, dog, what do you think about this guy in the powerplay?
I'm happy to write back.
But if the guy says, oh, dog, you're just a fat pig and you don't know what you're talking
about, I'll blocking you.
Like, you don't know me.
I'm not going to put up with the garbage.
I'm not going to put up with it.
Exactly.
That's why I'm not advocating for, like, messaging this guy.
But it's a clown move, bro.
No, it isn't, man.
I like it.
I think it's fun.
It's a good tune.
He loves his team, and I support that video.
And I'm going to recreate it for the Maple Leafs.
Okay, I want to see you do that.
And I want to see it.
You think I'll get destroyed.
That will go viral.
And you know what?
Because we build it up, I think people will love it.
Like, I don't know why, but if you did that and you walked down from the 300,
somebody will throw you down the stairs.
So go down the 200s, at least they're, you know.
You think if I was recreating that.
On the 300 level, somebody would kick you.
Somebody would kick you.
I think there'd be a scissor kick.
I got a spot for you in the 300.
that'll protect.
I'll get you protected.
I know some people up there, the best people in the building.
My guy, Joe, the sprinkler guy will protect me.
Joe, the ushers up there.
There's no one better in the building to take care of people.
By the way, get Joe to shut off your sprinklers.
He's the best.
There's nobody better.
And he's a Giants fan.
He writes me all the time.
He goes, I think we got a shot this year.
Like, of what?
The Giants fan?
Winning the division?
Like, no chance.
Dude, those Harbaws are getting mangled right now from every corner of everything.
Well, I got to confirm a deny here with that in mind to an extent.
Confirm and denied, Dan Quinn will make it to the end of the season as head coach of the Washington commanders.
Yes, got to be honest.
I'm surprised he's not fired right now.
I'm totally.
I'm waiting for a Shafter tweet.
Yes.
I thought we'd get one on the air.
Hey, like Dougie would send a Shafter.
Commanders, you're out.
Dude, when you get the Golden Nugget and the quarterback and things started the way they did in his first year,
and then you got a guy on the sidelines and it's going sideways for the QB
and the guy doesn't know what down it is and it's a mess and it's confusing,
you get fired, you get fired over that stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think there is, do you think one more week if there's like there was something last
week, something this week, if there's one more week, do you think that he gets his pink
slip?
I'm genuinely surprised he's still the head coach.
So am I.
I thought he'd get fired today.
And after a long road trip, it still might happen later this evening.
Yes.
Like, again, coaches, like, GMs get fired, I guess.
The GM and Indy just got fired.
But he's been there a long time, and it's been a mess.
And when you lose to Tennessee, you get fired.
Like, that's how bad the Titans are.
Tennessee beat Indy and the owners are like, you're fired.
Like, we can't lose to that team.
But when you have the debacle at the end of the game a week ago,
where Daniels takes the sack.
and they don't get the field goal off.
And then yesterday, when you become a laughing stock meme,
asking them to send the field goal team out
when you've turned the ball over on downs,
it's not recoverable.
You just can't recover from that.
So he's not making it to the end of the season.
He will likely, I guess, get another week, Noodles,
probably at this rate because, you know, he's still there
and they didn't get rid of them on the flight home.
But it's not good.
good for Dan Quinn. You got one win. Last year was a disaster. The last couple of weeks have been
very embarrassing for the organization. It's just very difficult to survive that. Very difficult to
survive that. All right. Like we mentioned, the Colts, they just fired their GM. Confirm and
deny Peyton Manning will take over the operations in Indianapolis.
Absolutely not. Do you think Peyton Manning's probably got a billion in the bank?
And I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but the note taking, maybe the
owner was checking in on different things to see if she hated like the GM.
Pat McAfee seems to think that they needed to move on from the GM.
No GM wants to walk around with somebody in their back pocket taking notes all day every
day.
No, I'm telling you, people don't want to do it.
They don't want to do it.
Like, people would think about that.
Do I want somebody in my back pocket all day following around taking notes asking me
what the hell I'm doing?
That's not for everybody.
I give the owner credit.
She wants to learn.
she wants to have information it's not the norm and not everybody likes it that's the only point i'm
trying to make so Peyton manning sure is how i ain't dealing with that i'll tell you that right now
unless unless he said like some people take the job with stipulation going i'll take it but you
you have to go right you you sit in the box and i will report to you but that that's i think that's
where you see him if he wants a challenge like that but you're not you're right you're right
Like if there's too much, you know, infiltration of what you're doing every day,
then you're not even going to be able to put your stamp on the organization because
somebody's looking over your shoulder the whole time.
I've heard comments, and again, I'm being respectful about it,
but the situation in Buffalo with the Pagulas, it's like Kim Pagula was very, very
involved in it.
Terry Pagula involved in the SABERS.
And it's your obligation, you're right.
You're right.
You're obligated to do whatever you want.
want. It's just, it doesn't make it right and it doesn't mean people like like dealing with it.
Who the hell wants to deal with somebody looking over their shoulder all day, every day?
Well, it's not for everybody.
I think it was Dan Patrick who said, like a source who told him, that it may come with an ownership claim as well.
Oh, there you go.
To get paid.
It's kind of like with Brady and Vegas, right, where that is interesting because he has a ton of money paid, man.
A billion.
Probably got a billion.
Yeah.
Whatever Brady's got, he's got.
So Brady can be a 10% owner.
I'm sure Peyton could do the same thing.
And if I'm the Colts, I'd be all over that.
Like, hey, come in as an owner and please run the operation.
The question is, does he want to do that?
You know, he's still doing the stuff with his brother.
He's still in a million commercials.
He's got a lot of freedom right now.
And does he still have the connection to Indianapolis after they moved on from him?
Remember, it got ugly.
He got injured.
Then they dropped in Andrew Luck.
Yeah, it was an ugly exit.
Yeah, it was kind of, hey, Peyton, you're not wanted here anymore, you know.
And I believe he lives in Denver now permanently.
He's from New Orleans.
And all the things you just mentioned, like, it's not a bad gig to do the Manning cast.
I describe it to a lot of people about my gig in hockey.
I talk about hockey and there's not stress of wins and losses.
You start incorporating the stress of wins and losses on a day-to-day period.
basis, your life's a whole lot different, man.
And you have to ask yourself with a billion in the bank, do I really want to do that?
And there's a lot of great hockey players that wanted to do it for a long time.
Brennan-chanahan didn't need to do it.
Joe Sackick didn't need to do it.
Steve Eisenman didn't need to do it.
But they're hockey junkies, and they love the juice.
They love winning, and they love competing.
So they put themselves through it, and that's why they do it.
But it's not for everybody to want to get.
Like, do you notice how gray people's hair get when they get into this stuff?
Seriously.
Yes, I know.
Just look at Coach's hairs when they start coaching.
It's like presidents.
Like, their hair is gray in a year.
You've got to be fully committed.
Like, you have to show up.
You got to be there first.
You got to leave last.
You got to go on scouting trips.
You got to deal with a lot.
It's no joke, man.
Your life changes, man.
Your life changes because you're all in on it.
And, oh, I remember on, was it Twitter a couple days ago,
where you saw our buddy Todd Reardon.
He went Messier.
He did.
And he came and gave me a big hug.
I love that guy.
I played with him in St. Louis, right?
So I love that guy.
Did he mention that he went Messier to you or not?
He did not mention that to me, but he just said, hey, how you doing?
And we had a quick chat and just, you know, I've known him forever.
And I just, I didn't even really notice it.
And then I saw your tweet that night.
I just tossed that out there at like 10 o'clock a night.
I'm like, nobody is going to know what the hell this means.
When I saw him on the bench, I'm like, he went bald.
Great job.
He looks great.
He looks great.
I think the Sharks coach could give it a shot at any time.
Just saw it all off.
Who cares?
Give it a different look.
Yeah.
Worshowski.
There's a number of guys in pro sports.
And the NHL, right, they don't wear hats or anything.
That's the thing.
NFL coaches will wear some hats.
Dude, it's time.
It's time to bring.
back a salad rebuild.
Yeah, exactly.
I've never seen Andy Ray's always got a hat on.
Like I've never seen his head.
Like, so you have no idea if he's got a huge salad under there or he's got the comb over.
I've never seen his head ever.
He's always wearing a hat.
I'm sure he's got the same.
He's got the exact hairline you would expect Andy Reed to have.
Dude, I need to see a picture of his head.
I've never seen his head.
Have you guys ever seen?
It's right out of a movie.
A comb over bacon strip on a high.
way with the window half down and it just starts like it fires across and it's an insane oh
it's like it's an insane oh kid it is it is but you're living free man that's how you're not
yeah like he could buzz that right down and go messier all there i've now i honestly god i'd
never seen his head before me neither he's always worn a hat yeah like yeah that's exactly
what i expected him to look like that picture in
our group chat today was a fake of that tickets guy.
Was it not?
It was a hundred percent fake.
It looked like Odog with a wig on and a mustache.
Right.
I think was it a New Mexico school or something like that?
And the guy's last name was Tickets and he had the worst rug and stash ever.
Jeff Tickets.
That's what his name was.
Jeff Tickets.
Running the ticket operation.
That was 100% like AI generated or made up because it's not for real.
And if it is for real, I would love to talk to that cat.
I'll tell you, speaking about just minor hockey, Hayes, you're in minor hockey.
I've been reading a lot of, like, I get a lot of tweets.
Like a former Major League Baseball player and his wife were running a minor league, like, kids baseball.
And they were defrauding the kids the fund out of like $100 grand.
Anybody in kids' sports, they better be, because there's a bunch of people that are getting buzzed.
and screwing around with money for kids sports.
If you're involved in it, you better
take a look at who's ever running the cash.
Because there's some people doing some greasy
stuff, man. That's crazy. Very greasy.
Yeah. Well, every
team's got a treasurer, right?
That you have to trust.
Unfortunately, they're the ones that are doing it.
They're the ones that are doing it.
Yeah, if they've got access to the money
and, you know, you've got to just hope ever, like,
I've never experienced anything, but everyone
being amazing. I don't doubt it.
I don't doubt it. I get these rules in place.
Like, I know,
our team last year with Cammy's team and Anthony Campoli.
Like there was a guy who could sign and they needed two parents to sign all the check.
Like there was three people that signed every check because of that type of stuff.
I think hockey Canada has that stuff in place.
So, but you never know.
Like maybe baseball, different states in the U.S. somewhere, who knows?
But I think northern the border here, like I know my son's team, they've got a money guy and he's very...
Got to have it buttoned up because that's the sky.
It's disgusting. People stealing money from kids' sports teams.
It's crazy.
And that's why you've got to write it to the team and not like a personal account of somebody.
Like there's rules with all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, crazy.
Because, yeah, that's a lot of money.
That's another thing.
It's a lot of money to pay for all this kind of stuff.
Exactly.
All right, Best Betts coming up.
