I've got my five pack. I will touch boudreau later this hour i've got my uh... five pack
i will touch on a little bit later this afternoon
and we're just talking about connor hellebuck in
cf people tweet in and text and like well you say that about hell about what
you say that about
matthews and marner and
yeah that's
what we've been saying i mean the winter peg jets in the trotter maple leaves
have to prove
that they're different the way you prove you're different is you win four games at a time.
Am I missing something?
Have Matthews and Marner, have they been garbage or something?
I think they've played well.
I mean, I have noticed that the conversation about them, I think there's, listen, there's
a history, there's been such a focus on the core four, there's such a focus on them, their
contracts, their future.
You know, Matthew's in particular has not
scored a lot of goals in the last couple of years in the playoffs. That is true.
I think he's got two goals in his last 14 games in the playoffs. That's not
good enough. He's got to score goals. But I think what this team,
what Borube has been preaching all year is a system is a way of playing
is a buy-in is a you got to check you got to show up and I think they've done that well I think the
two of them have done that well Marner's put up points they've they've been very good on the
power play at times is there more to give offensively absolutely and is it in their
best interest tomorrow night to show that?
Absolutely.
But I don't, listen, the Leafs are up 3-1.
I think you're poking holes if you're trying to look at either of those two guys and saying,
what, they should have swept because those two guys were supposed to do it themselves
on Saturday night?
I'm not sure what the take is on that.
No, I don't know why were arguing with
the clouds hitler that mean like it well we're doing a really fancy you know
i don't think it's the clouds noodles i mean there are no i'd say you just said
you're pointing out about winnipeg as opposed to the least
two separate series
you know when it goes down and when it takes you could argue if they go in and
play well
one game on on the road
they they could be up three one they got they got run out of the building both nights and
You know to me they need to regroup doesn't mean they can't because I thought they played well in games 1 & 2
They deserve to be up to nothing. That's the thing. I mean being up 3-1 in a series. It's difficult to
To pick apart players and where are
these guys now this will start gaining momentum if there nowhere to be found tomorrow night
and Ottawa wins five one and then it's just the engine is just going to fire up tomorrow
night if that happens I think what I think it's fair for us to just point out what's in front of us
There's series that are 2-2. There's series that are 3-1
Tampa, Florida, I think play tonight that you know see where that gets to you know So everyone's had a different phase of this, you know Edmonton games one and two they're down to nothing
You're going okay. What the hell's going on?
They haven't played a full 60 minutes then they didn't even play a full 60 minutes in either one of those games but they
found a way to win so now it's a best of three there it's a best of three going
back to Winnipeg and they're the best goalie on the planet I voted I was one
of the votes he was number one in my heart ballot I had him ahead of dry
settle because dry saddle missed the last ten games of the season like he
might win the heart like Connor Hellebuck could win the heart
I know lots of people that voted for him the number one spot or the number two spot
So it comes out today the Vezna finalist. No, he's been pulled two games in a row
We have to talk about it. Well, of course, of course
Like the time is different timing the best thing. Well, it's tough timing. Yeah, I mean he's you know you it's a it is a feather in his cap is going to win it
unanimously and he may win hard
uh... obviously he's focused on other things right now as should be
and the gold tender position is so different
then the first line center first line right wing you know if you're on an
island and
it's a very different conversation
you know as for the leaves you look it naturally, they lose one game and then
you start to see the stats that you referenced, one in 12 in elimination chances since 2018.
Matthews in his last 14 playoff games, two goals.
You know, so I do look at him and I think it's going to be intriguing to see how he
plays tomorrow because I think collectively as a team they've played well through four games.
And they had a chance to sweep.
They were in overtime, game four up three nothing in the series.
If I'm Craig Barube, I don't think I'm asking Matthews to do anything different.
If anything, I need him to continue to play the exact same way he has been.
Don't change your game because you lost one.
Same thing with Mitch Marner. If you get an opportunity you got to close, clearly
that's what is expected of you. But if you're a Leafs fan, does it matter if
Matthews is the one that scores the big goal to win the game? Doesn't to me. Who
cares if it was Domi or Simon Benoit or Matthews or Marner. It's been too long of
focusing on the play on the core four
and the main players.
And I think it's refreshing if you can start talking about different players.
Oh, that's that's that very clear haze.
Like if it's if it's Perfetti that gets three goals tomorrow and he's the guy that we talk
about great.
It's about the win.
Exactly.
Who cares about the individual statute?
That doesn't mean you can't play and perform or have that expectation of players.
Well, there's connections.
There's fan connections, media connections with losses and individuals that are high
price guys that don't get it.
Obviously, it's natural.
If you don't get it done and there's losses, it's like, hey man, it's the playoffs.
Remember, you're connected to this lost stuff so what's going on here and it gets people buzzing
like us three idiots and I'm sure our next guest here he is our main man Bruce
Bujaw our TSN hockey analyst joining us here on the Maple Toyota hotline Bruce
what do you make of the the game of Austin Matthews in particular through
four games this series
well all i know there there are three games to one
whether he's got one long for sister
uh... it doesn't matter he
doing his pretty doing his party like to think that he did
have five or six goals but he's not but you know what
that united taken over for that spot so he's doing
what uh...
often who are would have done,
say, this time last year.
But I mean, talk about responsible play.
He's been as responsible as you can get.
And I think that's one of the reasons
that the Leafs are where they are right now.
I agree.
I think he, Marner, I think all of them
have clearly kind of bought in.
They have a formula here, Bruce,
where they're making it very difficult for Ottawa to get on the inside, you know
They're trying to be on the right side of the puck. They're they're playing with poise
I think they've played well with the puck. They have not turned it over a ton or in bad areas
So I mean, I think the Leafs have played as well as you could expect through four games
What would you think the messaging is from Craig Berube going
into game five tomorrow night?
My message would be you play like you did the other night, which I thought they were
great the other night in Ottawa. I really did in game four. I mean, what did they allow
Ottawa six shots in two periods? They blocked another 20 plus shots.-plus shot there is one i i wish i had this
wasn't radio and in p v and i could
them so it was one shot from the point
where you could see all five guys
in in perfect position in front of the net there's no chance
despot is getting through
and so they're all all coming back with this time last year that might have been
four guys in front or even three guys and two guys anticipating the puck getting
picked up by a leaf and they're already at the red line looking for the breakaway
pass
and that's the big difference is they're they're taking care of their own zone
they're not allowing anything and that's the way in the end if you look at how
Stanley Cup is going to get one it's not going to be a 7-5 game in the finals
it's going to be a 2-1, 3-2
nail biter and
You know Stowell-Lars for the most part is really good. He might have had a little bit of a stumble
Yes last game, but boy I came away from that watching the game really closely saying man
I know they lost but I love the way they're playing the game right now for the playoffs.
Not as exciting as winning 6-4, but I don't think there's a hockey fan or Toronto hockey
fan in Toronto that cares how the game looks as long as they end up on the right side of
the score.
Bruce, what is it about star players and making things happen in the playoffs?
You had Ovi and Wash.
We've talked about Marner and Matthews.
The Hellebuck discussion has come up in the last 48 hours.
Is it fighting through adversity?
Is it just getting it done?
I mean, does the intensity have to go up or is it simply you've got to find another level?
How could you put your finger on it, how you would address it with a star player and what
they actually need to do to have success in the playoffs?
Well, you know what?
Never being a star player at that level.
I don't really know what they should be doing, but I mean, they're stars because they do
what they do. And it seems like for me, if it was,
it's Halliburke I think confidence it happens to the guys that are the,
the 13th forward or it happens to the best goalie in the world.
And I think with him, confidence is the matter right now.
And I'll tell you a couple examples of what I've seen of that. There was one,
um, one goal that got scored on him
and then the first thing he did, Jamie, you looked to the ref to see was that interference
instead of, hey, it was a goal, I don't need help. There was another one, he went off the
ice. I think he was so upset that he went off and he didn't come back to the bench.
These are signs where if you're the coach you you've got a
just no matter who it is you got to build them back up and uh... and and if
you're one of the players on the team or if you're the captain of the team you
gotta sit there and go
a voice
this guy's build a boat
every game this there are so many games this year
maybe able to help them a little bit and the reason I say that is
think
Winnipeg had not one block shot in the third period last game and they only had two forwards block shots in the whole game and
That's an 11 total. That's not enough when teams are coming at you the way st
Louis is coming at you you got to have help from the forward the d and the goalie
if you want to think he that's why i think the least
are doing it
so well because they're getting help
there everybody is bought into the way this thing is going to be played
and uh... that's why i think they're going to win
so bruce when you you look at uh... the by and
how about your your adjustments and i just Scott or Neil and you look how well
you played in the first two games on home ice and then you go on the road and they're
extremely physical, St. Louis is extremely physical on Shifely and they make him pay
a price, they get to your starting goal tender. What is your messaging to those individual
players either on the plane or when you get back home
to maybe build them back up you can't like you said you just laid out how you
would talk to
the team and say hey you know let's help bail these guys out
but would you pull them in individually and have those conversations
well i mean it
for a guy like site we could be running them every time he touched the park and
i'd believe that's the right thing to do if you're the opposing team, the only thing you could
say is, hey, they're not going to stop doing it.
You've got to fight your way through this and prove to the world how great a player
you are by fighting your way through this and going out and being the successful player
that you are.
There's not much you can you can do you can't
there's not a chance you could say as a coach hey listen I'm going to get them away from this guy
or that guy because everybody on St. Louis is doing the same thing. That's why they lead the
league in hits and one of the reasons I think they're being successful right now is they haven't
stopped they're wearing down this Winnipeg team. They keep hitting and hitting and they haven't stopped. They're wearing down this Winnipeg team. They keep hitting and hitting and they haven't changed. The first game, I mean, they're hitting and
Winnipeg wins. The second game, they're hitting more but now it's into overtime.
The third game, they're just keep pounding at them and it ends up a big
loss and the same with game four. So you have to expect that St. Louis is going to come out and keep doing the same things. So these guys, sometimes the goalies can look for help, like
from the forwards and that, but individuals, sometimes you have to say, hey, man, listen,
I want to help you. I'll help you any way I can. I'll get you away from this guy that's
running you all the time, but they're all're all gonna come at you so you better be prepared and fight through it and do what you can do and to deliver
for us because you're the guy we count on. Bruce yeah I'm sure you'd agree it
also makes you it forces you to be dialed in on your power play because it
might be one of the only times you have some time and space and to make some puck
plays. As you go back to my days playing against the Devils,
there was nothing five on five.
You know how they used to check.
And if you got a power play, you better make them pay
and you better be at your best
because that might be your only time
to do something different than five on five.
Agreed, 100%.
Because if you score on the power play,
then maybe they don't come running at you as much because they're afraid to take penalties and
right now I don't think st. Louis has a fear because
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't know if Winnipeg has got a power play goal yet in the series
so I mean
If they if they have they haven't got many but I mean that's one of the ways they lived and
if they have, they haven't got many. But I mean, that's one of the ways they lived
and died during the regular season,
having the best power play.
So when they got an opportunity,
they have to bear down and they have to score.
It's the number one way to stop the other team
from being aggressive, is to score on the power play.
Because if you're scoring on the power play,
you just sit back and say,
hey, run me, do whatever you want,
we'll take the two minutes and we'll score a goal.
And right now, I don't think St. Louis has any fear
of Winnipeg in that regard.
With Bruce Bujo, you mentioned Matthew Nyes
kind of pulling the weight for Matthews,
in particular in terms of goal scoring.
The goal he scored the other night was
unbelievable unbelievable man and this guy, you know, there's certain players that just have that
Type of ingredient where they're they're better in the playoffs, you know, Josh Anderson is one in Montreal I think Tom Wilson is probably one in Washington
These are all great players, but they get to playoff time and they show skill they show physicality they're ready to play like what is your ceiling for knives where do you see he's
22 years old you look how we played last year against Boston even the year before
coming out of college what he's done through four games this year where do
you see this going for him in the next two three four years oh he's to me he's
gonna be a star like I mean if he's if he's not already a star, he's a
star in Toronto, but he is going to be a star. Like, I mean, he takes the hits, he goes to
the front of the net, he can make plays, and with the big frame that he's got, like, I
mean, I don't think 30 goals is a ceiling. I think he's a 40 goal guy especially in the
with the power play that he's on and with the players that he's playing with
and he's just learning to play in the NHL. It's only been three years right now
so I mean or two plus years so I think there the ceiling is is so high. The
Leafs have got another star right there.
And so I mean, a star with size that can go in there and you want to hit, you want to
hit him, he'll hit you back.
You want to fight him, he'll fight you back.
I mean, I just love the way this guy's playing.
He is, to me, he's a guy like the teams are going to want, like the Tom Willsons, maybe
not as cuckoo, but I mean,
he's that kind of impact on your team. And the Leafs hit a home run when they hit him
and they got him.
Brucey, how pissed would you be if you were the coach of the LA Kings and you weren't
going back home with a three to one lead?
Well, I might have you're talking about having talks with people, I might take Quinton Byfield
and say, hey, Hugh, I put you out there to get the puck outside the blue line.
Like I mean, 25 years ago, you guys all know this, the coach would have killed you.
Nowadays, you can ice it, you can go for goals,
you can do everything and the analytics say that's the way to go. But man, when you've
got a puck and there's nobody, I mean there was nobody in the middle of the ice when he
got the puck and he skated towards Bouchard, it was almost like, hey, I want to de-cut
the defenseman before I have a breakaway and score and like I mean it might be forgotten if LA goes on to win the
series but if it doesn't they don't go on to win the series that play will
not be forgotten for an awful long time in California. Yeah I agree and Jim
Hiller was a little bit chippy after in his media as well as you know he, he was being asked why are you sitting back, you know, you had your foot on the gas
for a period and a half, almost two periods, and then they just basically sat back and
tried to like defend the lead instead of going at it. So, you know, that is something that
I think LA has to try and change maybe in their own building. I mean they're dominant in their own building though Bruce, like that's one thing that they
can hang their hat on is you're going home to a place where they've lost I believe seven
games all season long, you know, which is...
Well...
Yeah, go ahead.
Go ahead, sorry.
I was going to say, well here's my reason why, and I've been talking about this all day
on different platforms, is they had four defensemen that played over 30 minutes last game.
I mean, you know, I mean, and the reason they can't continue it, that's too much hockey.
They're gonna have to have some faith.
They had one defenseman in a basically a
four-period game play two minutes, okay? One defenseman play 11 minutes, one
defenseman play 36 minutes, 34 minutes, 32 minutes. You can't expect them to keep
going up the ice and down the ice. I mean it's like you're sitting there and
you're hoping to win. When they in the first two periods when you're fresh, yeah
they've had
commanding leads. But I mean, it's like Edmonton has just sort of waited and started churning and
churning. And now they're not coming up to the red line. They're not following up with the play.
And because they can't. And I think Heller's got to understand that that five and six defensemen,
you got to have a little
bit of faith in, even if it's just putting them on in positions where, hey, go for 30
seconds.
But I mean, when you play almost 80 minutes and the one guy plays two minutes, that means
basically five defensemen played the whole game and one of them only played 11 minutes,
you're not going to be offensive in periods three three and four you can't there's just no energy
With Bruce Boudreaux Mike Sullivan was let go down at Pittsburgh today
And now you're looking at vacancies around the league Bruins Rangers Flyers
Blackhawks Ducks
Kraken penguins
Seven teams like basically 25% of the league doesn't have a coach right now.
What do you make of all the turnover in the league, Bruce?
I mean, I think it's almost that's hockey.
Like I mean, I don't like it unless when I'm working.
Yeah, you get one of those jobs.
Yeah.
You know, but I mean, it is what it is right there
now like i mean i think uh...
is going to get a job as soon as he wants a job i think there
i think there's other teams in the league that are saying right now
we don't mind our coach he's got another year left on his deal but we got a
chance to get mike solbin let's go get him." And, you know, and they might do that. So, I mean, it opens the door
and I think Sully is going to have a chance at any job that he wants, I think. I mean,
I almost feel, and I have no clue, but I feel that the conversation when he called him in,
Mike said, you know what, I don't know if I can do anything more with these guys.
I've been here 10 years.
Maybe my, what I'm trying to say isn't getting through to a few of them now.
So maybe it's time to make a change.
Because he knows he's going to get another job.
As much as he's done with that group, I don't think he wants to go through another year
or two of missing the playoffs. And as it stands right now, I mean, I don't think he wants to go through another year or two of missing the playoffs and
uh... as it stands right now i mean
i don't think they're good enough to make the playoffs for another year or two
and then who knows what's going to happen after
sid retires
well that's it that's the next
question and i mean sits not going anywhere anytime soon you don't think
that's the part of the problem is it's said it's like
you can't disrespect
Sid by saying we're going to suck. And it's like you have to have this fake object like
this fake idea of we're going to be a contender because we have Sid. The team's terrible.
They proved it in two years, but you're not allowed to say it because Sid's there. Well,
they're begging for him to want out. Like let's be clear here. I'm sorry. If you're
dubious, you're begging Sid to pick up the phone and say, trade me, please get want out. Like let's be clear here. I'm sorry if you're dubious you're begging Sid to pick up the phone and say trade me. Please get me out. Then you
could turn the leaf over. Then you can actually launch into a new era and do
something different and maybe... Think about how painful it would be to watch
another third season of what we just watched. Oh yeah we're gonna compete this
year. We got a new coach, a new vibe and they're gonna stink. It's just crazy. Listen
Yeah, no disrespect to any of the players or anything
But in the summertime when your big signing is Kevin Hayes soon as I said that I said, you know what?
They're not gonna win again
They're not trying to win because I mean they got a they got to go for somebody better
Like I mean if all of a sudden they opened everything
and said, Mitch, what do you want?
And we'll give it to you, and you get to play with,
or Sid gets to play with you for a year.
Not that it's gonna wow Mitch,
because he's been playing with Matthews
for umpteen number of years,
but I mean, it would show the Penguins
that they're looking to get better
and they're looking to make the playoffs.
But if they end up signing guys that are middle of the road guys just to fill up the roster,
I mean, if I'm sitting, I'm going, I can't go through this again. Can I?
But I mean, I know how much he wants to stay a penguin, but I know how much he wants to win,
too. So I mean... it's a real
the real tug of war between your car your conscience with the one angel on
the one
shoulder in the devil on the other shoulder talking to each other and we've
seen in many movies before absolutely uh... thank you for this bruce will do
it again soon appreciate it
no problem thank you guys first blue jill joining us here on the Maple Toyota Hotline. Drive
the built-in Canada fuel-efficient, fun to drive Toyota RAV4. Gas or hybrid models available
visit mapletoyota.com. Yeah, I mean, we're not going to do the song and dance. Sid shouldn't
want to. Blah, blah, blah. We've done it so many times. He's going to make up his own
mind. But if I'm Dubuz, I'm just begging for him to pick up the phone and say get
me out like you just you can't because it's too good he's gonna keep them
competitive where they're gonna miss by three points or five points like you got
Gavin McKenna coming up you get a couple of young kids come in the next couple
drives that are like look like rock stars. This McKenna looks like a player. Yes
there's some kid though I think a year younger i was watching clips of him over the weekend some kid
from like medicine had or something that's a very easy
it's mickey du pont's kid isn't it is it okay defenseman and like i played with
mickey
and i talked to craig about in the other day like this kid is exceptional status
he said i think he's
fifteen years old play on the watch and DuPont. I played with Mickey. He was awesome
But his son apparently you see like Mickey you want to go for beers? Yes
I'm already there. Yeah with my mustache
Apparently this kid is again. I don't want to get ahead but but like we're talking the car type of but like different type of
Player but really I mean
exceptional status at that age and usually very well it tells you what's on the way.
You know what are the odds that Mickey had a mustache.
Is it a notch.
Didn't honest Mickey if Mickey played in today's game.
Okay.
He would be an all star because he was a small right shot defenseman and I'll tell you a funny story about it
I had him as a guy with a long feathered mullet in a mustache that was his dad people
I loved his dad and his dad hang around because he was a Calgary guy and got to play for the Flames
He was unbelievable. I'll tell you a quick funny Darrell story
So Mickey gets called up from the miners and he's a really skilled defenseman.
So he's the last guy back and he goes to make a play, like kind of circle back, curl and
drag and it gets poked away.
When they get a chance and he comes to the bench and Darrell comes down and Steve Monodore
is sitting beside me and Mickey comes right in between us and Darrell leans in and goes,
if you ever do that again, I won't even put you on a plane to the minors.
I'll put you on a bus.
And Monty is dying laughing.
I've got my jersey over my mouth and Mickey is horrified because he's like, I can't play
like that.
It was pretty funny though.
He had a great European career.
He's an awesome player.
He's a younger, I mean he's 45.
He must have had, obviously had his kid at a pretty young age, but he was playing for
the Berlin Polar Bears in 2019.
So he just retired professionally like six years ago.
I don't know much about the Berlin Polar Bears, man, but that sounds like it's fun, man.
Yeah, it sounds like a blast.
Like a big home win on a Saturday night for the Berlin
Solar Bears like a big you know they part man Berlin's like famous for their party scene, too
Yeah, you imagine like a 30 for 30
Vicky was a great guy
Mickey was a great guy, awesome, so funny. He did two stints with the Berlin Polar Bears.
Yeah, early in the what, 2003 to 2006.
Yeah, they won a couple of titles with Mickey and they brought him back.
Yeah, he's a beauty, man.
He was so funny.
That's a show that someone could do.
It's Canadians playing in Europe, like just the whole scene over there.
Yeah, behind the scenes, a real behind the scenes where it's like, I don't know
Well, I have no idea like I'm getting to an I don't know what guys would be getting up to man
I don't know either wilds, but there's some great cities over there, man. It's a very good scene
Yeah, so his son Landon is playing as a 15 year old in the Western Hockey League for Everett
He had 60 points in 64 games as a defenseman.
15, yeah that'll do it. 15 years old. That'll cut it. Okay, well that's what's coming for Canadian
hockey man. Like we talked about that a lot at the Four Nations where you know sure the depth of the
Americans have maybe caught us. The high end talent has not. It just hasn't. All right so we've got
Chris Johnston coming up.
He was down at the skate today.
The Leafs were skating.
Matthews did not take the skate, but he'll be ready to play tomorrow night.
We'll catch up with CJ in just over half an hour.
And Bill Belichick sat down with CBS and had himself an interview.
We're going to play a couple of clips, get into it.
We'll do that next.

All right, someone tweeting me in with a clip I was talking about.
You were talking about Mickey DuPont's kid who's unreal and he's already in.
Yeah, Landon.
Yes.
Yeah.
There's some other kid named Maddox Schultz
What a handle that is too. Yeah, and
I guess you know he was playing
I don't even is that the overtime winner overtime winter y'all they all have like dyed hair. Yes, so he's playing
A you know Bantam or something and apparently this kids put up numbers that again
we're talking about kids who are not there yet, but
He's putting up stats that people are going nuts about
Anyway that the other kid McKenna, I don't know what goes on Jamie you would know better than me in Minnesota in December
But I got to go there for the world juniors and Gavin McKenna going to make it a lot more entertaining than it previously might have been. Big time.
He'll be the man. Yeah, hopefully he has.
Because the Badaard show in Nova Scotia was the most fun i've had because
every game you're like what's this guy gonna do? It was the best individual
performance that i had seen
where i'm like wow this guy's way better than everybody else. Yeah.
Well, this McKenna, I mean, yeah.
So I hope that McKenna, not that it's about Canada and then winning, obviously, but this
guy could make it a lot more interesting.
Absolutely.
And hopefully he doesn't start dating someone that takes over his public relations and how
he's going to handle sit downs with James Duffy. So Bill Belichick did an interview with CBS Morning News yesterday
and he's got a book out now and we'll get into one part of the conversation about the
book which I find fascinating. Belichick shows up like he always does in his grubby, stupid
Navy t-shirt with a hole in it. It's so unnecessary hole. Like it's so unnecessary. You're 73 years old.
I get it.
That's your thing and you're on the football field and you're the hoodie.
You're doing an interview with CBS.
All I could think of was parents are looking at that saying, I'm sending my kid.
You're a college coach now. That's how you're going to operate.
The interviewer is trying to get into his relationship with his girlfriend who's 50
years younger than him.
It's been well documented.
She's now on all the emails.
She's kind of running the show in terms of how he's going to do whatever he's going to
do at North Carolina. And this is part of the back and forth,
Belichick, the interviewer,
and Bill Belichick's new girlfriend.
You have Jordan, right over there.
Everybody in the world seems to be following
this relationship, they've got an opinion
about your private life, it's got nothing to do with them,
but they're invested in it.
How do you deal with that? Never been too worried about what everybody else thinks. Just try to do what I but they're invested in it how do you do with that
never been to worry about what everybody else things just try to do what i feel
like is that's for me and then what's right
how did you guys meet
not talking about this
which is like executive producer in the corner
that that that's why i'm here
well it's probably because there's the video of old Billy B crawling out with no shirt
on out of that grubby little townhouse in Southie.
He was all boiled up the night before and the door cam caught him and he was going to
practice.
Right.
But isn't it strange?
Like what couple doesn't talk about how they met?
Yeah, like that's weird.
Like that's really strange, dude.
Like, you ask me, I'll tell you the back story.
Everyone's got a back story, how you met your wife.
Dude, why do you need a relationship where she's 50 years younger than him and she's
what, all of a sudden calling the shots?
Because Bill Belichick of all people is not media savvy enough to know what the hell he's doing
it just reeks of
she's dying to be in the spotlight and she like
but why does he like that
but what like i i have an idea as to why he accepts it yeah because he's
seventy three years old and dating a hot-looking twenty four-year-old girl
he's always like i'm gonna have to put up with some things that i normally
wouldn't and that's why he's doing it. But he looks like such a dummy.
Yeah. He looks, he looks ridiculous.
Go to Hawaii and disappear and do whatever you want.
Why are you still working? You got, you got a hundred million dollars. You got a new book
out. Why are you coaching? And why are you coaching 18 and 19 and 20 year olds?
And why is she walking around on the field too? Like she's, have you seen that? It's like a leopard jacket and like it's a wild wild
scene man. If I was at UNC I keep talking about how I'd fire people but if I
was at UNC I would have put eyes on that the first time and said absolutely off
the field this isn't this isn't family barbecue time on the football field.
What the hell do you think this is? Well, no, thanks
And this is where I'd love to get it
Have a conversation with someone from New England the Patriots and in the way Belichick ran his operation
Like remember Brady's guy the TB 12 guy that Alex Guerrero. Yeah
Belichick looked at it said nope. No chance. You're not around. What are you doing? You're not around the players
You're not around. What are you doing? You're not around the players.
You're not around the team.
Who are you?
All the great NFL coaches said to have run the tightest ship other than any other coaches
around the league.
And now this guy, he has his girlfriend running the operation.
It's a very awkward, weird situation.
Look at this.
Like if I ran football or sports at UNC, I'd be like, no thanks.
Nothing to do with football.
Sorry. at UNC, I'd be like, no thanks, nothing to do with football, sorry. And CBS, the reason they played that clip was because I guess, you know, his girlfriend
continued to interrupt and continued to contribute to the chat where I guess they're like, we
have to show this.
Like, normally you wouldn't show something.
That's like an outtake.
You wouldn't show that.
But they're like, we have to.
She continued like, it's almost like bill bella check is is frozen and she it's like a puppeteer in
a way but he was he also he has this book out and I I have not read it I have
not seen it yet but I I think we could all concede if Bill Belichick is going
to write a book about his life robert craft would be mentioned in its
probably a multiple chapters when you say noodles like i guess hundreds of
times he would be in there
yes not
in the book
at all
here's the interaction where belichick explains that are tries to
twenty four years together six super bowls
unless i'm wrong
he's not in this book
how comes now
well again it's about my life lessons in football and
that's it's really more about the ones that i experienced directly he's not
even in the acknowledgement section
correct do you feel like you were Correct.
Do you feel like you were treated with dignity and respect when you were let go by Robert
Kraft?
Yeah, well, it was a mutual decision for that would to for us the part ways.
He said fired.
It was a mutual decision. That's code for i don't care how much money that guy gave
me i hated that guy scott yes as of right now very clearly
he absolutely cannot stand robert craft
do you know i think people write books where the relationships were frosty
and the mentions like they mentioned they they almost have to mention the
person hundred times if i want to get invested in this book, Bobby Kraft's all over it because you talk about
signing this. How did we deal with Hernandez? How do we do like, you know, all these crazy stories
that happened over the years, you know, Gronk and Bobby Kraft didn't want to sign them or something
like that. You never know. Like to me, that's the meat of Belichick story is and Bobby
Kraft should be littered everywhere all hey you know what it does you know going
out the lesson Jamie where Bobby Kraft although we know he likes some other
things he comes across as the old guy who loves his players loves his team and
he's the well-dressed guy with the white hair, but maybe he's an
absolute D-bag.
Who knows?
He might not be the nicest guy.
You know what I mean?
Absolutely possible that Belichick is justified in some way.
And behind closed doors, those guys bitched and argued for 20 years.
Yeah, and it's been a power struggle for who deserves the most credit, who gets the credit,
who has the power
But it is you know he was channeling his old
Monday morning press conferences it was it was like Billy that we've seen the last three years is gone
And now he's back into Patriots football on to Cleveland all you had to do is mention Robert Kraft
You know and he just immediately is like correct
No, he's not even in the acknowledgments.
That's correct.
That's correct.
That is an accurate...
He hates his guts.
He hates his guts.
Something's going...
I mean, clearly.
And listen, that may very well be a two-way street.
Bob Kraft may look at Bill Belichick and say, I put up with you for 24 years.
But it might also be as simple, Hayes, as I won you all those championships and you...
Maybe it wasn't a mutual agreement
Because the guy that got fired is the guy that always says it was the mutual agreement. Well, you can't fire the owner
That's the thing right like Belichick knew what was coming at some point
Yeah
Maybe he was just completely taken back that the organization actually had the jam to fire him and he just said screw you
Yeah, listen if anyone deserved an ego as a head coach it would be Bill Belichick. Well, here's the other thing too
I mean I'm dying for the stories of like this is what you you want to be let behind the curtain, right?
I want him to be like I got a phone call at 3 o'clock in the morning the FBI
Storm this what's it called the aides of you know that
Orchids of Asia or kids of Asia
of, you know, that the orchids of Asia, you know, and Bobby Kraft is being let out in a trunk in the back and they wheeled them out.
cowboy boots on cover in oil.
Wouldn't that be wild if that was the only thing he wrote in the book?
Exactly.
Like the only story about Bobby Kraft is that story, you know, like, Bobby's security guard called me at 3 a.m. and he got in trouble at Orchids
of Asia end of chapter.
Yeah, that's, that's a story I would explore.
That's one I would be willing.
That's what they call it.
That's a best seller right there.
That's what they call a page turner bobby craps back in the day in between like the wild card weekend and the divisional round
too i believe
oh that's right yes it was like during the playoffs
it was a quick jaunt down to see what's up and then he was flying like kansas city
or something right off to that
just a quick little stop yeah just a pit stop for bob
alright cj coming up chris johnston coming up i have my five pack as well
in terms of players
coaches that are really feeling it
terms of the pressure
uh... as we're about a halfway through the first round of the stanley cup
playoffs will get to that around six thirty

All right, we're coming off an absolutely wild weekend.
The NFL draft, it was all about Shadoura Sanders.
He finally gets picked, and it's the Cleveland Browns who had picked another quarterback prior to taking him and now they've got a five-man
quarterback room that includes Deshaun Watson and Joe Flacco. It's just a wild
scene up there in Cleveland but Dave Naylor, our TSN CFL insider, just tweeted out
10 minutes ago that the Toronto Argonauts
have put Shadour Sanders on their negotiating list, basically their rights list, if it ever
gets to a point where he gets cut or he's looking for a job, maybe we get Shadour up
here in Toronto.
Wow.
Kind of like that idea.
That was the worst outrage.
And from all accounts, because people started slinging mud ASAP as
to their interviews with this guy and apparently they were as outrageous as anyone, any executive
had ever seen.
Some of the answers where you were like, apparently one executive asked him where he was going
to be in five years and he said the mayor of the city.
It's just like, come on, dude.
Apparently, it was all...
The one thing that pissed me off though is there was a bunch of clips of Brian Dable
during these interviews and I don't know if one was with Shadur, but this guy was acting
like such a hero.
Somebody should have said to Dable, dude, you suck and your team sucks.
Who do you think you...
Brian Dable was driving me nuts.
I don't know why.
I saw that too. That was last year. I't know I was fascinating though wasn't it though like how but he's like oh what
are you gonna do if it flips there the guy decides the blitz and I just wanted
to look at it I was one of those kids I would have said your team sucks man and
you don't even you don't know what to do so what are you asking me for I couldn't
stand watching him I just I watched it as a fan going that's pretty fascinating
and I thought those kids really quickly on the fly were thinking you know big I watched it as a fan going, that's pretty fascinating.
And I thought those kids really quickly on the fly were thinking, you know, big picture
like they, I thought a lot of the interviews were awesome though.
Like who, like the responses to him.
Some of them were cool.
It was just Dable saying, I wouldn't have done it.
I don't know why.
I don't even know that we never talk about that guy, but he was driving me insane.
Well, the Giants, I mean, they were one of those teams with the third pick that some people thought maybe would take Choudhury Sanders.
It's a combination of a million different things, but I don't doubt that the Sanders group, they played their hand wrong, right?
They didn't, the league didn't see them the way they saw themselves.
Maybe the kid's just not that good it's possible it's it's possible for sure that he's he's
not projected to be a star or even a starter and if you get into a quarterback
that's a backup that is going to be larger than life that is very concerning
for a lot of teams a lot of teams just don't want to handle that you can't have
a backup making noise when you've already got a starter you know an
established starter.
Listen, Deion Sanders is A, he's one of the greatest athletes of all time, North American
sports.
B, he's one of the bigger personalities and household names in my lifetime in terms of
who he is, how he operates, how he approaches things.
He's a fascinating figure uh... and you know it's it's tough to work
and live in that shadow
you know i think i just do what you know you dad's prime time has been just had
it
just a massive personality
and the comments in the bling in the whole rodeo that goes along with it
that's what he knows
so i said that but it's a great hopefully it's a great opportunity from haze where it's like and the whole rodeo that goes along with it, that's what he knows. I understand that.
Hopefully it's a great opportunity for him, Hayes, where it's like, because when I was
Cleveland I'd say to the kid, you got one shot here, and if you don't come in, like
if you come in with the side circus and the posse and the security, this is work.
And if you don't want to come here and be a regular dude and work, sorry.
Like if you're at, like if you want to have the whole circus come along
It's just not happening and we'll just release you right away. Well, yeah
Did you guys hear again? This is all we're getting information. Yeah, you gotta be careful this stuff careful
So Meg avatar on Twitter talking about it doesn't mean it's true. I thought this was fascinating though again if it was true
You're picking up nuggets that
Players on current teams were saying if you draft that guy like you're on the defense
Bring him in because we want to kill him like did you hear stories like that?
Yeah, yeah, I don't who knows if that's true or not man. I I don't I'm I don't think that's fair to him
You know what I mean like let's see what happens. He's a young kid. I
Felt for him, but it's also pro sports like it that's that's the reality pro sports
It's you're not guaranteed anything and the thing is with Dion and what I'm saying about him is he he he talked the talk
He walked the walk like he was a he came into the NFL like look at me look at me
And then he performed you're like look at this guy's unbelievable
He's maybe the greatest cornerback of all time
He's maybe played baseball and to the point where he's like, I'm so good at this wait till I go do that
And he didn't do what Jordan did. He wasn't playing a double-a that guy was playing in the World Series
Crazy the Braves that's how good he is. And that's the thing like if if and I don't know his kid clearly
I don't know what he's going to look like at the NFL level, but if you're bringing, you know, prime time vibes
without the prime time play, teams are going to be like, I don't think that's going to
work for us.
And again, he's in Cleveland now, like of all places, man.
You're just begging to go to a place with some stability.
If you're going to drop that far and you feel like it's in your best interest to possibly
be humbled and realize, OK, I'm not going to play for a bit.
I'm going to work on it.
He's going to show up in Cleveland and think, I'm playing.
Why can't I play for this team?
This team stinks.
Who's the quarterback here?
So.
Johnny Manziel had a lot of the same thing where it was like this guy, people were saying,
I wouldn't drop this guy, period.
And then other players were like other organizations like guys gonna be
Cleveland Cleveland didn't they take him one yeah they took him 26th overall or
something but in the first round yeah they I think the owners explanation was
just outrageous he was like I walked out of the hotel and some homeless guy said
to me I think you guys need to get Manziel. And he's like, no.
He wouldn't do it.
That's the guy having 28 stockes.
That has been reported that Jimmy Haslam
was taking his advice from some guy on the street.
That's tough.
Although it's the Browns, I mean,
is it worse than whatever the guys
in the front office are telling you?
Maybe not.
But that Mel Kuiper Jr., he had quite 48 hours.
He couldn't handle it.
He could not handle it all weekend.
He lost it.
He was slipping.
Hour three coming up.
Overdrive continues.
