Keegan Matheson coming up from Fenway. Get his take on the series, a big big series, four game series down at Fenway. They're coming off a sweep at the hands of the Mets
and Vladdy Gero Jr. is signed for half a billion dollars. Pending physical, pending physical. So
we'll catch up with Keegan, get his take on that. The Leafs are probably in the air right now on the
way down to Tampa or down to
Florida. They got Panthers tomorrow, Tampa on Wednesday. They might be there already.
Have you guys seen the latest conspiracy theory with the Florida Panthers? Can you guess what it is?
They're tanking to get the Maples.
They're tanking to avoid the Tampa Bay.
I read a few of those ones today where I'm like, I don't know.
Well, I will say.
I read this headline, are the Panthers tanking to get the Leafs?
And I just couldn't get myself to believe it.
I don't think they're tanking.
I think what they are doing is they are load managing.
They are definitely load managing at an excessive rate and I
think the Panthers this is the luxury you have when you've won a Stanley Cup
it's irrelevant really who you play where you where you end up slotted what
is more important when you're playing with house money is that you're healthy
and I I think they would do this if they were gonna play Tampa if they were gonna
play Toronto if they're gonna play Ottawa I don't think they would do this if they were going to play tampa if they were gonna play drawn of their gonna play auto i'd i don't think
they are considering what's gonna happen come playoff time in terms of an
opponent
they're thinking internally which is smart
like they're they're playing house money they they've won a stanley cup last year
haze i bet you any team that like the colorado dallas edmonton l a kings
vegas
any team that has a chance to win i think that also we don't care where we
play and where we start like we got a chance to win we believe in our team
that much
i mean
there are people like us that were like when the division maybe you get the
sense
like i wonder if the sensor thinking a we were calm down here maybe we want to
who knows what they're thinking man
well that's what there's that's the flip side of it like tampa is
red hot right now they are they are healthy and they're playing very very
well
they have to send if you're brady kachak and you had a candid conversation with
them
and you said to him
who would you rather play in the first round the stanley cup playoffs at
toronto maple east of the tampa bay lightning who do you think he would say
saying toronto at the ten days out of ten
jonas
is right
yet i mean listen that sensor three no i believe you can't ignore the results
exactly in the lead out of this year in past history right the lease have
the history that they have no auto has no playoff history
but they don't have a right to necessarily be in bold and rather. I mean, Brady Kachuck hasn't had a playoff game yet. But if I can
understand why Ottawa would want Toronto more than Tampa, I can understand why Florida would
want Toronto more than Tampa. But if you're the Leafs, even if it's completely bogus,
I'm playing this card if I'm Craig Borubey. I'm playing the, these guys want us, these
guys think that we're weaker, these guys think that they can beat us and there's
no excuse for the Maple Leafs to ever take their foot off the gas and have any
consideration of who they're going to be playing. You have to prove you believe in
yourself and you can beat anybody because that's all they have to that's
what you've got to do whoever you're gonna play you gotta have to prove that
they want to win they're not the kind of team that are gonna be snorting and
spitting like the Kachuk brothers if you piss them off and say those guys said
that you know they wanted to play you guys it's not like they're gonna be
spitting mad going out on the ice that's just not them they just have to prove
that all the years of them saying man man, this just gutted us, and we love each other in that room,
and we're going to get it done sooner or later,
they have to just make that count one year
and make themselves not into liars.
They've said it every year.
We believe in our group.
For six straight years, they'd say,
this is the best locker room we've ever had,
and we're going to get it done.
We believe in each other
i wouldn't get rid of anybody blah blah blah
make account one year
because i honestly look at it obviously the golden nights of dallas stars
the colorado avalanche the oilers the kings
caroline is a good team
florida's is two-time like the been in the cup twice tampa is
is there one
team that you would definitely be afraid of facing off in a series right now?
I think it's wide open for someone to pick up a Stanley Cup.
Wide open, more than many other years.
Yeah, I would agree with that, and I think the Leafs are peaking at the right time.
Like they're playing really well right now.
They're 8-1 and one in the last 10.
Columbus is running out of steam, but I thought the you know dismantled them on Saturday for the most part and and and we talked about it on Friday
Which game are you gonna play if you're Toronto?
You're gonna allow it to be run and gun or you're gonna just take it
You know pick your spots and dismantle this team and that's what they did
Like they it was it was a low event first period on Saturday night and the Leafs just waited for their opportunity
It was a low event first period on Saturday night, and the Leafs just waited for their opportunity,
and they buried them, and they put them to sleep.
And I think they go into Florida
and win at least one of them.
I wouldn't be shocked if they won both,
Tuesday and Wednesday night.
And Florida's in a different position.
Florida's not chasing the Leafs in Tampa anymore.
They've lost five in a row.
They haven't done that in years.
Ottawa, to their credit, playing really well,
and they got a really soft sked coming down the stretch.
Ottawa's gonna win, I think, think for their final six games at least
It's Toronto and Tampa like the game on Wednesday night. That's the game that will determine who's gonna win the division
So can I ask you guys?
With that in mind, how would you split the goalies?
Very good question. I might go Joseph wall tomorrow night now
Put wall in Florida or do you just bank the points, make sure you got the points?
I don't know.
If you win tomorrow night, like the Leafs have a four-point buffer on Tampa.
Tampa's in New York playing the Rangers tonight, I believe.
It's a good question. Like, I guess maybe you go back to Stolaris because he just played them so well last week.
And you don't look past an opponent, especially not an opponent like Florida like Florida who should be angry maybe a couple guys get back in the lineup
tomorrow night. That might be the play put Stolar's in and just try to try to feast on a struggling team and see what happens.
What would you do? I think that's what I do especially because as Mark Masters pointed out to me
today and I looked up and he's right as always Joseph all has great numbers against Tampa but whatever that's worth I think he's like five and one with a
nine twenty six a percentage there's your answer on do that
Stollers Tuesday wall on Wednesday go out there trying to get points and chase
down the division win it and whoever you play is whoever you're gonna play it's
not how do you guys real though if they want by the way has any balls he would
ask Craig Barube face to face tomorrow, did you do this because Mark, because I pointed
out the stats of Joseph Wall against Tampa.
Did you pull the trigger on this goaltending scenario?
You take my advice.
I said it was a good idea.
Yeah.
I think Borube might slap him right in the face on live television.
Do you think Mark would do that?
Sure.
Sure, he deserves credit.
If that's the way it happens, it should be him that gets credited with that.
But how would you guys feel, like, let's say they won the division and then the first round
opponent is Florida.
Like, how would you, what would you think about that?
I mean-
You just gotta do what you do and that's what happens?
Yes, I mean, listen, here's the reality.
If they play Ottawa, they will be a prohibitive favorite to win that series.
They will be expected to win the series. There will be more pressure on them than they've had since the Habs in 2021.
Every other series they played for the most part has been a coin flip. The Tampa's, the Bruins, the Panthers series,
you know, for the most part over the last nine years,
I would say the Montreal series, the Columbus series the year before, everything else has been at best
50-50, if not, they're the underdogs. I think if they play Ottawa, there's a mental grind to that too
There's a bit of a psychology kind of hurdle that you got to overcome. You have to win
Yeah, you have to beat Ottawa. They play Florida. I think Lee fans will think okay, of course
They finally win the division they get thethers, and it will be a coin flip.
They may not even be favored to win that series.
And if Kachuk returns and Barkov returns
and Ekblad's back in game three,
and Bob's playing the way Bob can play,
they're probably an underdog in that series,
even though they're the home team.
But, Florida's played a lot of hockey.
Florida is not coming down the stretch well.
I get it that it's load management,
they're waiting for guys to get back.
It's not always that easy to just snap out of it,
come game one of the playoffs.
The Leafs, I think, are peaking at the right time.
And the Leafs, if that's who you get, that's who you get.
What are you gonna do, throw games
and then hope you get Ottawa?
What if Florida takes off down the stretch here
and wins the next four games in a row?
I don't think the Leafs sway off the path that they're on right now just keep
playing your best hockey and make them the the fit like the feared team like
just get to a point where like they're playing so damn good and i've always
said that about this team get them to a spot where if austin matthews is playing
his best hockey the opposition is going to say how in the hell are we ever going to stop that guy
because i've been waiting six years for somebody to say after a playoff series
we had no answer for thirty four or sixteen or eighty eight for that matter
and i just have never heard it
i want to hear what you have
i want to coach on the on the press are up on the podium or their best player to
say
we had no answer for 34 or 16.
That's right.
I want to hear that one damn time.
Yes.
Well, I'd like to hear it four times over the course of one spring.
Bang.
That's what actually needs to happen.
CC Carlo Coliacovou.
Yes.
Bang.
I like the way they're playing.
I like the position the Leafs are in.
You get there, the dust settles, you play who you play. The Blue Jays are at Fenway tonight playing the Red Sox, coming off a sweep at the hands of the
New York Mets. They are now five and five. Man, there was some good mojo going down at Queens.
Right, you sweep the Nationals, you're five and two, everything's coming together.
And the bats, ice cold again, ice cold. Bichette, Guerrero, Santander have combined for zero home
runs so far. They are dead last in there have combined for zero home runs so far
they are dead last in major league baseball
in home runs by teams
they have five on the season andres him and as has three of them
but that's not the story we start with
what's light a grow junior
fourteen years five hundred million dollars here's keegan matheson of
emily dot com live from fenway park
keegan you and i have a three of us the four of us we talked about what he for
years we talked about the idea that this contract
it may happen it may not happen
uh... are you at all surprised were ten games into this season
and it decided
this is the time we're going to make this happen
you know it does a little surprised on the timing i i'd never believed the
deadline was a full deadline,
but I did think this was something
that was going to stretch into next December.
I thought that was the likeliest outcome here.
Playing out the season
and then seeing what the market had to say,
but clearly this has continued on
and frankly good news for everybody.
Good news for the Blue Jays, good news for Vladdy,
good news for all of our sanity
the different fans
it's uh... to have this
off of everyone's chest
to leave us you're asking john stider about something else
everyday is i think a relief
for everyone so
did not think would happen in the early window of the season
but i think that that was by both sides here and just uh... a massive guys. I don't think you can overstate how big this is for this organization.
Keegan, when something like this doesn't happen, when there's a deadline met, there's movement from one side or the other, can you talk about where the movement came from here?
I'm obviously guessing it's the Blue Jays and how much are we talking and is this a win by Vladys Camp himself and his
agent the way this was played?
Well, I will describe Vladys Camp as active.
Maybe that is the best way to say it.
In what sense?
As you have heard report after report after report come out lately, there's been a lot
of them.
Some of it reported well, some of it reported terribly.
A lot of that has been coming from Guerrero's side of that.
Now that does not mean Vladys on the cell phone himself, but a lot of that is been coming from the rare outside of that now that doesn't mean gladiator on the cell phone himself but a lot of that is coming from
gladi side now the blue jays clearly needed to move a bit here as well a lot
of that though guys was not just about the two big numbers we see which is 14
and 500 a lot of that was about deferred money a lot of that was about no trades
or those
deferrals especially were very big opt-outs are another major thing in
these deals we saw that with Soto and others. Those little details I think are
where a lot of the movement had to happen and everybody loves a good big
beautiful round number 500 everybody likes that and I think they've met in a
good place but to your question
oh dog when you look at what first baseman have gotten paid in Major League
Baseball yes Vladdy's agency and Vladdy have done very well here because the
Blue Jays were in a spot where they had to do this I still think it's a good deal
for them I still think this makes sense but they had to do this because if they
didn't you know what we would be talking about for the next year, maybe five years.
Well, so Keegan, what will make this a good deal?
Winning championships make you forget about valuations
And how much he is worth every single year
If the blue jays turn into a team that wins in the playoffs
Nobody's going to be talking about is Vladdy worth $37 million a year.
He's worth a lot of money, yes, but at this point they need big picture success.
Individual success at this point doesn't matter much.
You need to avoid turning Vladdy into the career that Carlos Delgado had here in Toronto.
And I love Carlos Delgado as a hitter,
an incredible hitter, incredible player,
but I'm talking about the team itself.
Carlos Delgado's career here in Toronto
existed in the middle of when teams were not good enough,
not competing enough, there weren't enough wild card spots
and it was a strange way for that to play out.
This team needs to win in the postseason.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has not won a postseason game. 0-2, 0-2, and 0-2 in the playoffs. That's not gonna fly. If that
keeps happening, then you bet. My god, we are gonna be talking about that big
$500 million salary of the books. If they are winning, you don't have to win the
World Series every year, but just 2015 and 2016, making those deep runs, exciting people. Then we start talking about something else entirely. I think Vladdy, he'll
have his up years, he'll have his down years, we've already seen that. But this team needs
to win in the postseason. They have not done it since 2016. That's not good enough, that's
not going to work. That's how this is going to be judged. With Keegan Matheson, MLB.com,
Jay's at Fenway starting a series against the red sox tonight body grow junior again signing a
for about to be signing a fourteen year five hundred million dollar extension
is still on term for this year
uh... which will make him a blue jay for about twenty five years
he's he's signed when he was sixteen
if he gets through this will be what forty forty one years old that'll be
twenty five years
uh... you know if he plays through this whole thing we know 41 years old that'll be 25 years you know
if he plays through this whole thing we know he's gonna own every single record
his number will be retired maybe it'll be statute territory I think you're
right he's got a win I think he's got to have individual success for that to
happen but do you expect any tangible change when it comes to Vlad in the way
he handles himself in other words responsibilities within the clubhouse responsibilities within the marketplace
responsibilities with media on a daily basis
how does this contract in your opinion change what we could see
from gladi on a daily basis moving forward
there is a big difference
between being the best player on your team and being the face of the franchise
and i do not think there are 30 faces of franchise in Major League Baseball. I don't think it's close,
quite frankly, guys. Now, he'll handle the money just fine. You give me 500 million, I'm going to
be stupid. Glad he's always had money. He knows how to handle that part. That'll be okay. But now
you are unequivocally, disputes no matter what the face of this franchise
When you win that's a great place to be when you lose it's gonna suck
Because after they lose that crappy nine-to-one game in September
You've got to be the guy that comes out and talks even if you went three for four
That's what's hard for a lot of guys to deal with to wrap their heads around even if it's not your individual
failure you are now the face of the team's failures
or their successes, and not everyone can do that.
I think Vlad is someone who is growing into that.
I've seen that from him, I've been a reference to him,
God as much as anybody over these last eight, nine years,
I've seen him grow up in that role,
but there's no more hiding from anything at
this point. Whether it's good or bad, you are the face of it and I've seen that
even in quiet moments around the clubhouse, around spring training.
Vlad is the guy saying, no that drill sucks, do it again. No that wasn't good
enough, do it again. That's important when it's coming from your best player and
we'll see how
that goes when the hard times come that's the ultimate test but that's all on him now when you
make that type of money it's all on you. So when you consider this this commitment from the team
the largest contract in team history by by a mile it's not even close the third largest contract
in baseball history if a fan comes up to you on the street and goes,
Keegan, tell me, who does this affect the most
in terms of the image, in terms of the possible outcome
being positive for them?
Is it Ross Atkins?
Is it Mark Shapiro?
Is it Rogers the owner?
How would you answer that?
How would you respond to that type of question?
Who?
You know what?
I wouldn't put this more in terms of the direction of the
baseball ops which is a broad way to say Ross Atkins and the people who make
baseball decisions. We have seen already, I think we've had the conversation about
this team spending money. Not only have they spent some money the last couple of
years, but as we've talked about a bunch of times guys, they've had to spend a
hell of a lot more. They've tried to go out and get Shohei Otani they've tried to go
get Juan Soto those dudes are not cheap so the money has been there that covers
ownership that covers Mark Shapiro's job I think and what they've been doing but
you've needed the baseball side to land the guy and they finally have now
everything else gets easier because when
you go chase a big pre agent and there's going to be some big ones this off
season you're not just saying come to Toronto you're saying come play with
Gladys. Not just for a year but for the rest of your career come play with Gladys
and that changes the realities for this baseball side. So I put a lot of the
credit for this frankly which is due on the baseball side and they got their guy
that we've talked about them chafing these big fish
he was here all along
it was always gladiator and they got up
will this have any effect on
negotiations with boba shedders that just
sideline
i still think that exists
all by itself but i really do now
when both weeks i think this genuine that he does want to play with black
you'd be better come up to the minor league
for one player to play their career with a team of special
but you've got to do it together i mean everyone can picture that all baseball
america magazine cover
where they both look like a twelve years old the smiling over the shoulders
of each other
for them to go from that to career teammates
would be an all-time story
in major league baseball if they win
but i think both place right now coming off such a strange year last year
i think he's going to show everyone this year he is a damn good baseball player
you know it has been
but i think in his case it's really hard to set
a value at this point.
I still see that one reaching free agency, what happens from there we'll see, but I don't
think you're going to hear another big bomb of news tonight or anything like that.
With Keegan Matheson, MLB.com, from Fenway, Jay's Red Sox starting a series tonight, and
you know they just got swept the timing of this not the best not the best considering there you know they're now five and five
they got swept in New York and the bats were asleep and you look at the top of
the lineup Bichette Guerrero Santander like none of them have hit a home run
like none of the like Santander slash line is is horrendous like it is he has not arrived yet. He has not had any moments
where you can look at and say okay there he is there's the guy and I'm listening to Schneider
after the game yesterday and I'm just rolling my eyes like the offensive come it's coming the
home runs are going to be we've been talking about this for years. These are the three guys they need
to get going. Are you a glass half full or glass half empty guy that they're five and five?
Considering the statistics of those three guys at the top of the lineup
Yeah, there's still baseball guys. This is the strange part
I I walked in today and made a comment about Easton Lucas starting today and one of the blue J's PR guys said teegs
It's burrios today. You can get back in the game here
So we're playing catch-up, but the top of this lineup needs to be a ton better this is
obvious with Santander guys he is a notoriously slow starter and that's not
an excuse it's not a good thing so ever but that's part of what you are purchasing
when you sign Santander his OPS in March and April has notoriously been very bad
then suddenly it
warms up and he heats up. That happens every single year. We used to see this with Lourdes
Gurriel a bit, so I think that will come. But you need to see it from Vlade, ideally
really soon after signing this contract. And you need to see it from Bowe. Now, if you
had asked me those guys four days ago, I'd say it's great news because they're finding other ways
to win and those bats will come along.
But after a few days in Queens,
we saw how poor the offense was.
And like you said there, it was exactly like 2024.
I felt like I was writing a 2024 story.
So you cannot have that creeping back in.
That is a legitimate cause for worry.
I don't care if it's early i never care about their lead these games count
just the same with the games of tempered new
and getting up to a hot start is crucial
in this division
and with the strength to get with the plate so
it's a legitimate cause for worry i don't talk on there will come around
because always does
but you need some power but you talk talked about right off the top of this.
Five home runs with three from Jimenez.
That's not gonna do it.
That's not what anyone expects.
No, it's not.
And they're going into a situation here with the Red Sox.
They put 18 on the board last night.
Like they are mashing.
The Yankees are breaking records for home runs hit
early into the season.
And again, every year we do this.
So I think the AL East is watered down.
I think it's going to come back to the pack and it never ever does.
And the blue Jays have to be aware of it because they've been in the division
for a long, long time.
Um, well Keegan, when do you think we're going to actually have this
contract officially signed?
Like, what is this physical going to look like?
Vladdy's in the lineup tonight. what exactly are they looking for in this
physical to make it official well I'll tell you the true story fellas I poked
around on this because I was worried I would have to travel to the city of
Baltimore later this week if it took a while it sounds like it's gonna happen
while we're still here in Boston which is good news for everyone we'll see what
goes into this physical it's a very standard formal thing to go through.
They're not trying to find anything in particular, but standard operations that should be able
to be worked out over the next day or two.
Hopefully that's something that we are talking about officially here in Boston at this series.
And then of course there will be a ballroom gala a big fancy
official thing back in Toronto where everybody rolls it out but I think it'll
be these next couple days. Okay we look forward to that great stuff Keegan
appreciate you doing it enjoy Fenway Park enjoy Boston and we'll do it again
down the road. You got it fellas take care. There he is Keegan Matheson of MLB.com
yeah I guess the signing will be it's always weird when all these reports are done everyone
knows and there's some details like
like he can send the working out you know no trades and opt-outs and all that
kind of stuff
but when she wanted to sign like officially do the signing back in
toronto i don't know
yeah well there on the road right but they've got to go through by getting
or but i'm just
have oppressor say we've agreed to it we're officially going to dot the line back in Toronto before our next game.
Who knows? Do what you got to do. They're back home next week. Like next Monday you're
back home. They'll do something significant I'm sure that day but it's monumental man
like it's a massive commitment but the players going to stick around and like he just we just saw it at the
Mets home opener where the Mets crowd gave him this massive ovation and the Mets are doing...
That would have just got worse man. Yankee Stadium, Fenway.
Well tonight man you're at Fenway tonight like if this guy if this and I don't think that's a
coincidence that they looked at the schedule and said we're going into Fenway they're going into
Yankee Stadium I think next week or two weeks from now,
that it just would have been become louder
and louder and louder.
And the reality is, if you've been told,
if it's a mandate, just get it done, then go get it done.
Like if the owner said, pay him,
and Vlad is being honest, which by all accounts,
well, he was because we know it's official now
or it's going to be official, I want to stay,
but you just gotta meet the price,
then why let this fester?
It should have been done three, four, five weeks ago,
but that's irrelevant now,
but he's gonna be a Blue Jay for life.
And I think if you're a Blue Jay fan,
listen, you just hope the guy stays healthy
and he continues to mash.
That's all you gotta worry about, and ultimately win. That's how you get hope the guy stays healthy and he continues to mash. That's all you got to worry about and ultimately win
That's how you get to the next level of being like an all-time great
Athlete and legend within a market. You've got to win, but that's not just on him
It's not just on him. Of course not as much on the front office, but he's got a big moments too, right?
Like it has yeah, right
You got it
You got to get to the playoffs and you got to have a bat flip moment like Bautista
You got to hit a home run like Alomar did you got to have you got to have moments where it's like that's the guy
That's the legend that is mr
Blue jay vladigrira jr
Where you can point to a playoff run or a world series run where not only does the team pull their weight?
He pulls his weight too
And if that happens then again you're talking about a guy that will probably go down in history is
The greatest blue jay ever based on longevity statistics and moments
He's got to pull his weight when it comes to the moments
We've got to have earlier guys like let's just hope he gets some kind of offense going here soon because it'll start quickly man
Yes, it'll build like what the hell's going on here man. We blew 500 sheets on this guy
Well, exactly like there again four games in fenway
um, and then I believe they go through baltimore right on
The weekend so you've you got he mashes that fenway, which he does historically love that park
But you're right. You got seven games here within the division
If you go like two and five and you come home and you're seven and 10 and he hasn't hit a home run yet.
And like, it's just, it will be awkward
to be up there on the podium talking about
a $500 million contract.
$500 million contract.
That's what's at stake for Vlad and the Jays
and everyone involved.
So it's a big week for him.
It's a massive, massive week.
All right, Bruce Bujo still to come.
We've got Tim Kirchner of ESPN in about an hour.
The O-Dog had himself a very eventful weekend.
Worst day of my life, Saturday.
Worst day of your life.
We will have a moment by moment breakdown
and we'll do that next.
All right, Bruce Bujo coming up in just over half an hour.
Feel for people that were down at Augusta today, got rained out, which means they just
kick everybody off the course.
Dude, imagine like flying from Asia or something for the Monday practice run, that's all you
could get and you walk in and they tell you to get lost.
I know.
I, I.
And they say possibly you can get some kind of refund for next year's Monday.
Wait, people do that?
Oh, absolutely.
Did you just come for the practice round?
Absolutely.
There's golf freaks that were like, who knows, Jonas, maybe it's all they can afford, all
they can ever get their hands on, whatever.
That's more of what it is, is how difficult it is to get tickets.
There's a great pick of a dude that showed up i don't know what year it was
for a practice round day
and he's at security
and he's got his clubs
on a wheelie bag and thought he got to t dot
i've seen that to do and they had to pull this guy sides
where on or do you think you're
going?
That guy won the lottery for the practice round, which means the professionals are practicing
and you can walk around and watch them.
This guy thought he was putting a peg in the ground and ripping your foot across the national.
They wanted to slap him right in the face here
take your grubby gloves
out of here the best is that he brought his own we'll be car
uh... i don't need to read joe try to find a picture of this guy quickly
because this guy will dot to security and with his we'll be part
and he wanted to get up with his wheelie cart and he wanted to tee it up with Jack
Nicklaus at a practice round yeah it's a great I've seen sorry sir where are you
going with the bag the guys got his foot joy shoes on like the security
security guard saying he's saying uh... we have a guy
here he thinks he's uh... playing it would probably be you're not gonna
believe what i have
you know right now
but i said i can't turn would come from
this guy actually thinking he was teeing it up like
because that would be the first glance like is this guy hammered is he a dummy
that's trying to be a goof and you'd get really concerned when you realize this guy's got tees in his pocket and a couple
of, and he actually thinks he's golfing.
Yeah.
And now you're going to have to break his heart.
He totally misinterpreted the invitation.
And the beauty of it is with the picture up on TV, look at the guy in the cart behind
him, looking back and being like, does that guy I think he's playing that guy thinks he's playing but yeah I've my neighbor
Mike did that they he and his buddies they because you got to put your name in
for a lottery whatever spits out spits out could be Monday Tuesday it could be
Sunday it could be any of it and they won the lottery and they had the Tuesday
I think Tuesday or the Wednesday drove all
the way down played golf got there 12 noon hits give or take 12 30 alarm goes thunderstorms you're
out gone never even got to go in the shop couldn't buy anything that's it and you're out they do not
let you back on the grounds you can't show up the next day and say well I want to be in today they've
sold tickets for the next day so my understanding is they said next year will comp you
for a date like the next year on the Tuesday,
whatever it was going to be.
I think they try to allow for that,
but his schedule was all jammed up.
He couldn't go back.
He's still so rattled about it.
Anyway, all right.
We started at four o'clock.
Oh, you referenced how difficult was it a
Saturday for you a Sunday like what's going on with you right now?
Easily the worst day of my life.
Okay. Explain.
Here's what happened. On Tuesday, I had a root Advil. All good. All good. I leave and two
days go by and I have to go to Kitchener for my daughter's volleyball tournament. It's
Thursday night in Kitchener. I am hammering down Advils because the pain in my tooth, I had to go to the drugstore
and get Advil extra strength and I am hammering these at a rate that will bung up your stomach.
I got a follow-up email that said, is everything good?
And I'm like, I wrote on Wednesday, better than ever.
As soon as I sent that email, better than ever, I went downhill into a place of pain that was undescribable.
Out of 24 hours in a day, I might have had two 45-minute segments where I felt like I
didn't have pain.
And during those times, I would try to enjoy life, maybe have something to eat, but I knew
after that it was going to be hell.
Saturday comes along and I'm about to enter the giant arena for the provincials in volleyball and on my way
into the arena like I guess taking all of these ad bills it bungs you up that's
scientific can you look Google that I don't know what bong means I think it
means the guy like issues with his boiler basically. No, it just constipates you, okay?
Right.
So I haven't gone to the bathroom in days and I go into the arena and as I'm walking
in five different people recognize me walking into the bathroom.
They're like, hey, old dog, what's going on?
The usual.
I go into the bathroom and I have to go so bad. I sit down and I've constipated and I have never experienced this in my life.
And I start literally getting really nervous and my daughter texts me, my middle daughter,
and she's like, Dad, you've missed the first set.
Where the hell are you?
So you're in there for a long time at this point. Haze, I'm not kidding you. you've missed the first set where how
they are for a long time at this point
i'm not kidding you
i was on the toilet in the same one for an hour and a half
that's not exaggerate
system
howard apothec and i started sweating
the people who are his i shed a couple of tears because I was really afraid of what the hell was going on
No, I couldn't go to the bathroom
Yeah felt like there was a football type substance in me and that would not come out
And I stand up and down and I'm doing calisthenics to try to move things around
and in the midst'm doing calisthenics to try to move things around and in the
midst of doing that my my sacred TSN coffee mug it falls off the toilet paper
handle and onto the ground and some young guy goes hey look that's probably
the old dog's coffee cup. I wanted to absolutely bury my head in the sand. But during this, I thought,
I've got to call an ambulance. And all I could picture was all the five dudes that recognized
me going in there are going to see me getting wheeled out in a Mike Modano gurney with my
pants around my ankles out of the bathroom. And this is gonna be the end of my life.
Oh my God.
So I decide I gotta keep trucking on.
I've gotta get in to watch some volleyball.
I'm telling you, I waddle like a penguin into the court
because I'm afraid, I don't know what the hell's going on.
I ultimately gotta go back into the bathroom
for a number one and as soon as I commence
that it's game over because the other side is telling me let's get back to work.
It was just the worst day ever.
I go to leave the building and I'm trying to turn my car and there's a boulder at the end of the parking lot that just rips
the bottom of my front fender off.
So then I'm at the front and everyone's looking at the bottom of my fender and another mom
comes to help me rip it off.
And as I'm ripping the bottom part of the thing off so i can drive my truck my front
three teeth
the bridge spits out no onto the fender
and i could smell certain things and i just thought to myself
this is the worst
position i've
fit my
this is for ladies trying to help me and I smell like an outhouse. My front
chips just fell onto my fender. What kind of hip is still there? It was the worst.
Oh my god. So your teeth, like when you were in the studio like six months ago when your
teeth popped out. The exact same thing. What's with these teeth dude you got to figure this out man like between root canals and bridges and Advils and constipation
a lot of people point out the constipators back did you ever hear that
story Jonas there was a guy doing some absolutely heinous things throughout the
city he was throwing feces at people.
We created a superhero to catch this guy.
To catch a guy and someone wrote in and said the O-Dog needs to be named the constipator because he is the superhero
that's gonna go find him. The crab stops here. And evidently the O-Dog lived up to his name over the course of the weekend.
Couple follow-upsups if you will
did you get your tsn mug back
i hope you did i hope you did someone must have picked it up and left somebody
picked it up and left it at the hand was out of the company i do have you getting
rolled out
dude and some of our young people as i was crying
yeah all i could think of is i'm getting because I I seriously contemplated calling an ambulance
Oh that is panic behavior. Oh, yeah, that is I don't know what this is like. Am I the do I have a serious issue?
I'm googling panic scrolling on my phone
And I'm like I got to get my daughter who's 15 years old to call an ambulance to come and get me not in the arena
years old to call an ambulance to come and get me, not in the arena, in the bathroom. All I could think about is the people's reaction seeing me in the Mike Modano cart, go wheeling
out and dropping me on the floor with no pants on.
There's Jeff O'Neill.
Yeah, there he is.
There goes Jeff O'Neill.
That was the end of it.
I saw the end of the O-Duck falling off the gurney car in front of the ambulance with no pants on.
Oh my god and imagine you getting to the hospital in a situation like that like I
don't know if that's ever happened. Doogie maybe do a Google search if it's
possible. Is there surgery that could possibly happen there?
No dude they would have said take some like a take a like digestive thing right yeah they would dual softener. Oh Jesus. Jonas do you have any
follow-ups on that? Have you ever heard anything more ridiculous in your life? No I
was wondering if anyone knocked on the door while you were in there and be like
not one person. Wow. Well there could have easily been guys that have had to like
take two or three number ones in the
duration. I was in the bathroom for an hour and a half.
Yeah, I would just love to know what your daughters were thinking. Like the idea that
you're there for a significant competition and your middle daughter's like, dude, what
are you doing? Like this is a match that is currently undergoing.
Well, just think of the first set of the match. It was like 25 to 21 and I couldn't see one
point because I was on the toilet.
We got to get you some antibiotics.
Like where are we now with the teeth?
Like what are we dealing with in terms of the...
I've got some swelling but I've rectified things and I'm back on the right track.
But there was a point on Saturday night like I was sitting at the end of the bed
and I'm like I just I can't make this pain go away it's but now I'm totally all set okay so we're
clean we're clear everything's moving in the right direction we are a hundred
times okay I love it like there was a point when my cup hit the floor and and
and I heard the guy said oh that's probably old said to myself, this is the worst my life has ever been.
I've had a great life, man.
That's rock bottom, man.
And the fact that you're associated with that, like something rolling on a bathroom floor,
it's got to be Jeff O'Neil.
They didn't say it could have been Duffy.
And to think that at that particular time, that is the worst thing I've ever...
Oh man.
Like the idea of, again, the paramedics storming into the washroom.
Yes.
Where is he?
Like breaking down a car.
Exactly.
Where is he at?
Jeff is talking to them and saying, well, sir, where are you?
I'm in the bathroom.
I'm in the bathroom hallucinating and I need an epidural immediately.
Like immediately I need an epidural immediately
Because I have something coming here that's gonna cause me
Dude we've seen way oh my god I need to know who who got the cup who had the mug why they left it there because that's another scene like you getting
mug, why they left it there, because that's another scene. Like you getting gurneyed out and some guy stopping you. Medano style. Medano. And they
Medano'd me right in front of the four guys that said hi. Yes. It's the worst ending
to a guy's life. You fall over and they're like what's wrong with this guy?
And it's and then you go through the whole story as to why you're there and
then some guy walks in and goes i think you dropped your tsn mark
uh...
i'm not going to get seen before you rush off to the hospital don't forget
about your mug
that you dropped in the washer
if somebody had a lot of me of video that he took of me walking from the
bathroom to the volleyball court i would pay him to thirty thousand cash so i
would i i i would i was not i have a little fun with immediately
immediately was in still is just at the most x insane experience
and you look back on it and you think why was i so panicky like
it was just kind of a normal but it did it felt really good it was bad news man
like i'm not there's something seriously wrong here
how many adils did you take
i was hammering for every hour and a half yes i've got a sense of cause a lot
of problems man that's gonna cause a lot of problems
like that at a minimum you've learned
a lesson here right and i'd like your your dentist i think these to get to the
bottom of this too because you gotta get
way harder drugs or some antibiotics before
and after.
That was the issue.
It's all good.
Yeah, you got it.
Okay, everyone's on the up and up here.
Everyone's okay, but what an ordeal.
Jonas, any follow ups?
I'm out.
Okay.
Well, we appreciate you grinding through.
You're going to give us one more segment, then you got to go clear right i'd do it not my head my face like i got to know my
face cam is that a more
that pun i thought you're going to rose
no
uh... there's a lot of other puns
available here okay so most people don't share
trials i'd love that you just were willing to share that because that is
just one of the all-time great stories in the constipators back he never left
this is kinda like you know in between the batman movies the
the revenge of the constipator
but you know when christian bail he he's he's got out for a while and he's all
decrepit knees
and then he returns and then you see the batman in the bat signal that's what the
old dog just revealed to the world
the constipator has not been in action for the better part of five, six years. He's back and he's better than ever.
Oh, don't kid yourself. When it signaled to me the second time around that I had to get
back on the can, I basically did a pole vault high jump to the top rope in a Greg Louganis
onto the toilet to get there as fast as I could because I knew it was Alright worst day of my life. I love it. What a way to start Masters week
we're back and we're better we're better than ever the definition of
The constipator he's back and he's better than ever. I love it. All right
We got Bruce Boudreaux coming up at about 15 Bruce. He could have been in a position like that at some point
We're not gonna ask him that should be a new segment the worst day of my life should be a new segment. The worst day of my life. I wouldn't ask any of that.
The worst day of my life.
The worst day of my life.
Brought to you by the O-Dog.

Overdrive continues.
TSN 1050 and on TSN 4.
All right.
Bruce Bujold coming up on Alex Ovechkin scoring 895 goals in the NHL eight hundred
ninety five and just does it in incredible fashion albeit they lost but
I don't think they cared about wins and losses yesterday like this is a huge
relief for the team as well I'm curious what Buddha has to say about that and
it's I'm glad I bet you the team is glad of the timing too because they got I
don't think they play until Thursday.
And it's a great time for a meeting, joke's over now.
We did our party, Ovi did his thing, now we gotta get,
because they're not playing well right now.
Right, exactly.
Defensively they've been really bad.
Yeah, you gotta snap out of it.
Like you're the one seeing these.
Absolutely. Perfect timing.
Yep, get it done, move on.
And go chase the Stanley Cup, that's their plan, that's for sure.
All right, O, let us know where we are, man.
Let us know where things stand as of tonight.
Two at-hills per four hours.
Is that what it's recommended?
Two per four hour increments, not four per hour.
Dude, I did what I thought was survival mode, man.
I did what I thought was necessary, and I didn't know that it would lock me in a bathroom for an hour
and a half
we need a plaque of you in that bathroom
in kitchener
this is the home of the old times constipator story
uh... by pal well we'll catch in here tomorrow four o'clock alice brother will
be in here as well as can be a be a very, very big show tomorrow.
