Starting point is 00:00:22 All right, here we go, Overdrive, off and running. TSN 1050 on the TSN app, your home smart speaker, up on YouTube, Live Brian Hasey, O'Dock, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles-McClennon. What's going on? What's going on? I got to congratulate you, Hasey B. You put on a ball-striking clinic today. Oh.
Starting point is 00:00:43 You did. We went up to Taylor-Made, and I heard one of the scientists up there say, those were McElroy numbers. I'm glad you said that, because this is true, noodles. I need to hear it. I feel like someone was messing with me today. Like it was a make-a-wish kind of thing. Because we went up there and hit the QI-4D.
Starting point is 00:01:06 I hit this club better than anything I've ever hit my life. And he's not just saying that. I'm not just saying that. We have actually like the records and everything. And there were multiple guys in there. Nick was in there. Jeff was my guy running me through the bag. Awesome guy.
Starting point is 00:01:22 They're like, yeah, you've got kind of Macaroy action. And I looked over to make sure. always listening and he was. Everybody heard that. You wanted him on a megaphone. Everyone heard that. And it got better because my dispersion, they're like, man, you got spin rates like Brooke Henderson. I'm like, what is happening around here? Grew a tent in your shorts.
Starting point is 00:01:46 It just gets better. When he heard the McElroyd numbers, he perked up. I was very excited. very excited. Like, is this guy trying to up sale you? No. Like, there's no, like... They don't have to do that for us.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Like, O' and I are in there. We're ecstatic to be that. They have no reason to fake pump our tires. Like, you know what it's like? You're trying a suit on you. Like, you look like Brad Pitt. You're like, no, I don't. Right.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Right. I think there's an element of that noodles. Obviously, I don't have action like Rory McElroy. I mean, it goes without saying... You never know. No, there would have been a few categories, spin rates, side spin. There could have been some similar action-type numbers. Here's where it went over the top, and O was not around for this, all right?
Starting point is 00:02:38 Because I had a wedge in there, my wedge just to kind of warm up and hit. And, you know, I was talking with Jeff, my guy, and he's like, let me throw another wedge in your hand. Just looking at your swing. And they have, you know, they have different types of, you know, grinds and different types of bounce and all that kind of stuff. It's really inside baseball stuff for like golf nerds. And this guy comes in, he goes, I don't put this in almost anyone's hands because I just don't see it very often the connection. This is Tiger Woods grind, and he hands me the club.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Are you being assing me right now? I am dead serious. He said to you, I don't do this often, but this is a T.W. prototype yes he goes this is tiger woods proto i'm going to hand this to you because i see the action and i'm at this point i'm like this can't be serious i'm launching drivers like maceroy i'm hitting fairways like brook henderson and now i'm putting together a wedge clinic like tiger woods dude you must have felt seven feet tall leaving that bill i've never felt better in my life Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Honestly, it was like, I'm sure what Sam Donald felt 48 hours ago. You know, it's got to be like winning, you know, an election or something like that. I can't even think of the equivalence. You must have accidentally gotten your car and just said to a fake driver beside you. Take me to the airport. I'm getting on a PJ to Augusta. Right. Almost instinctively.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Take me to Pearson, please. Private lot. I'm at Augusta on the tips tomorrow. Wow. A T-dub proto grind. A Tiger Woods proto. I just, not that I don't believe it, I just, what bothers me is like, again, if there's no dog in the fight, if there's just literally like, hey, hey, it's like, we want you to try this out, I just feel like there's an up sale here.
Starting point is 00:04:37 There's an angle. There is the angle. I just don't see it happening. I'm wondering myself, like, did someone, did you send Nick a note saying this guy's been down on the dumps? They lost their Super Bowl picks. No, dude. Someone pump their tires, please. That is verbal.
Starting point is 00:04:52 verbal Sealis when he says, I don't do this often. And ejection. That's syringe type stuff, dude. Because it was, I couldn't believe it. Like action like Maca Roy, Brooke Anderson, and then when Tiger's prototype came out and I started peering these wedges, I almost walked home because I'm like, this can't be real. I can't be living a real life. That's a good all these clubs are.
Starting point is 00:05:19 That's a great compliment. But what would be like the worst? backhanded Oh, if he had a came in and said watching your backhand, here's this alien wedge type thing. Which is like this anti-scull thing.
Starting point is 00:05:36 If he said here's an alien wedge, you get in your car and you go home. And I never play again. You're right. If he's like, I'm picking up on some like Charlie Hoffman type swing bugs. Exactly. I'm going to put you in this.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Charles Barkley would really like this club, like that type of thing. Right. That's when you go. I'm noticing some Dorff-on-Golf similarities. That would be me. But that's where I, so you got one end of the spectrum, and then I would get the other one. I would get the dwarf on golf.
Starting point is 00:06:05 We got to get you out, Nourdles. I know you're reluctant to do it. I want to see it. I'm desperate to see it. I need to see it. You know what it is, though? I'm excited about it, but I still think there's, like, it's, hey, try this coat on. You look like Brad Pitt.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I know. But is there, there's, did you walk out of the store spending over $1,000? No, listen, it wasn't like that. It was, we were at the performance lab, so I didn't walk out with any clubs. Like, this all gets dialed up and everything now. That's why there was no need to pump up noodles. These guys were just digesting numbers and absolutely spitting out the numbers and tire pumping HazyB. A mackleroy and a tiger proto.
Starting point is 00:06:47 I can't believe it. I can't believe it. I just want. We might have to interview one. Like, we might have to at least get, like, a statement. We don't have to interview them, but maybe a statement from somebody. We'll get a statement. This is what I saw.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Yes, I need to, because this needs to be corroborated. The Tiger Proton, I called you, I said, I'll tell you something on the air. You're not going to believe. Because usually I tell this guy everything. We all tell each other everything. I said, I'll save something for 4 o'clock. Your head is going to pop off. Maybe the greatest thing I've ever heard on the show.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Well, you saw him. He had turned sidew. weighs in his chair. He couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it. I'm going to play something. You had me at, I don't often bring this thing out. Yeah. Where it's like this guy went into a secret drawer and opened up like a black case with a lock and said, he looked at another guy and said, Hazy B is getting this one.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Yeah. I can't believe it. What a clinic. That was amazing. It was awesome. So it was awesome to see everyone there. It's always great. We'll get more details.
Starting point is 00:07:50 We'll get you confirmed details on all of those analogies that were used. I'm not challenging it. I'm just, I would like more, I would like more information. So would I in some ways. Believe me. I walked out of them. I'm like, someone's pulling my leg. Like, this can't be for real.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Yeah. So anyway, we'll get to that. We got Luke coming up. We had to give Luke an opportunity to just come on and gloat. It's a peacock, yeah. Yeah, he's going to just be so over the top in 20 minutes. Disgusting. Disgusting.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Yes. No, I talk. to him. I just said, you know our motto. Be humble. Stay humble. I'd rather you weren't humble, because humble is annoying. So what I don't understand is, okay, they won the playoffs, we won the regular season, but we still haven't really, is there like an overall champion or? Well, that's us. The championship is the playoffs. It's not a regular season. You saw Luke arguing with somebody on Twitter yesterday, somebody was challenging that,
Starting point is 00:08:48 saying it's tougher to go 18 weeks. And Luke goes, okay, so you would rather, you know, celebrate the President's trophy of the Stanley Cup. I know, but noodles. You guys wouldn't have made the playoffs with your regular season record. That's a counter. Everybody makes it. You guys were basically the New York Jets this year during the regular season. And they didn't make the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:09:09 I don't disagree with that. But when there's only two teams, you make the playoffs automatically. Yeah. And you stand up when you need to stand up. And that's what's happened here, is Luke found another level. And I would argue it's, you know, there was some weight that was dumped. Like, that's what happened. He challenged it.
Starting point is 00:09:28 He said the floating balloon went over to the other side, and he dragged them down. That's kind of what his narrative was. And I challenged that. I said, listen, O's got great information. I'd love for him to come back. Okay. Well, let's see. We've got about seven months to figure that out.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Yeah. All right. So Luke coming up. Johnny coming up from Italy. the women are playing right now. They're getting beat up pretty badly by the American team. And Marie-Filippe Palin is not playing. So, like, it's injury watch already.
Starting point is 00:09:56 You know, we're like two days into the tournament, a few days in. And if she's not playing, it completely changes the dynamic of everything. On the men's side, William Neelander is not skating for Sweden. I was going to say, I got an injury that we might want to keep an eye on. Yeah. Well, and see, Ekman Larson was being interviewed, and he was playing coy. and say, I'm not going to get into it,
Starting point is 00:10:17 but Willie flies over there and he's not skating. Now, he played it. I thought he played great the last few games. I would tell him to get his ass home. Sorry, like it's over. I know you can't do that, and there's all different kinds of things, his feelings, what he wants to do.
Starting point is 00:10:32 But if there was kind of any question, I would just say, I'm done. I understand what you're saying. Oh, my only comment to that is we don't know the nature of the injury. Would two weeks shutting it down do it, or is it something that needs to be repaired in the offseason? Like that would be my – again, I'm just guessing.
Starting point is 00:10:55 But, you know, if he's managing it and feels like he can play, we saw him do it right before the Olympics. If it's just managing the rest so that he can play, and then in the off season he has to have a procedure or something. Again, I'm getting way ahead of myself. But that's what I'm trying to think. Like, you're right. That would be my point, Jamie.
Starting point is 00:11:15 If I'm the guy paying his salary, I'd be like, you're going to tough it out and grind it out at the Olympics. And I get how important the Olympics is to the kid and all that. But if he's going to grind it and just make it worse and he somehow comes back and he can't go or something, I don't know. Yeah, and it makes $11.5 million playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. That's the difference. That's exactly right. Like, I get it. it's just are you damned if you do damned if you don't like where are you well there's no pulling these guys back
Starting point is 00:11:46 that's just the reality like there's the teams have no control over it i don't believe you know i really don't i think it's in the hands of the players to be mature and make the decision i can go or i can't and you know we don't know to your point nudals we don't know if will he's going to be okay if he's going to play if he's going to be fine is it more of an illness is it the same injury he's dealing with before. I mean, I would guess flying from Edmonton to Milan with whatever he was dealing with
Starting point is 00:12:17 it's probably not great. It's probably not great on the body. You know, you're not getting a lot of sleep, a lot of movement, a lot of craziness going on. But I just don't believe the players, I don't believe the teams in the NHL have any power over these guys. I think the Players Association
Starting point is 00:12:33 have negotiated for this. It's a massive situation for all of them, especially veteran guys. And that's what Willie is. You know, Willie's not a young guy. This is his, this is his Olympic. He's the best forward on that Swedish team. Everything's going to run through him. They're in big trouble without them. Their defense is really good. I think they have the potential to get a really good hot goalie, which could put them in a situation, maybe to win gold, certainly get into the medal round. But you look at that team, you know, Pedersen is what he was.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Pinnettysette, obviously isn't anywhere close to it. Like, Willie's the man. really's got to play. So I would guess there's a lot of pressure from within the Swedish delegation to get you get them playing and get them going. And I think it's on the maturity of the professional athlete to make the call. And, you know, you look at Point. You look at Sorrelli. Now, they must have been really injured.
Starting point is 00:13:29 And Point was really injured. Like when he went down, you could tell it was trouble. And I'm not surprised he's not over there. Sorelli looked pretty bad too. But they made the call. and I do think you have to consider, yeah, but I do think you have to consider the context of the team here. If the Leafs were running away with the division and really thought they had a chance to win a Stanley Cup, I think he might have, maybe you have a different viewpoint.
Starting point is 00:13:53 The reality is he might be looking at the Leafs saying we're done anyway. What am I saving myself for? And I know that's a weird way to look at it, maybe the wrong way to look at it, but I think it might be the human way of looking at it. You know? If you're on a team that's, yeah, the Leafs are in big trouble, man. Like, the reality is, even with Willie at 100%, they're probably missing the playoffs. Put it this way.
Starting point is 00:14:17 I hear you. If the Leafs are going to come back in March, I don't know what they percentage is. Let's call it 10% lower or higher. Okay. If they are going to make the playoffs, guess who's going to be an integral part of that? Yes. 88. 100%.
Starting point is 00:14:33 34 and 88, because we saw during this little streak there, what he can do. And the difference is if you're coming back off the Olympics on one leg or on one back or whatever he's got going on, you're not even giving yourself a chance. And I'm not saying that he needs to give up the Olympic dream. It's just I'm concerned about the injury. If this guy is missing practices and all of that there, like they haven't played. When did they play?
Starting point is 00:15:00 A week ago? When was their last game? Yeah, last Tuesday they played. A week ago today. It's a week ago today. shouldn't that be sufficient rest for something that's just, you know, 100%? That's just nagging you a little bit.
Starting point is 00:15:13 That's concerning because it speaks to me of something bigger. That's why I kind of came with that comment, oh, about maybe this is just something that he's going to have to nag for the rest of the year and deal with in the off season. I don't know. But, Jamie, you know how, like, treatment and acupuncture and all that stuff. You get three good weeks of that. That makes a big time difference. I agree.
Starting point is 00:15:33 When you have that opportunity as opposed to grinding it out and not getting any, not gaining anything. You're just kind of, you're pedaling in neutral. And the speed of this hockey coming up, like he can't be at 80 or 90% out there. Like he's, if it's something that, you know, he needs a skating stride, like he can't be at half speed out there. No, he's a guy who, you know, pace is going to be at a premium in this tournament. It'll be fascinating to watch and see.
Starting point is 00:16:03 I mean, you know, he's going to be there and interview and, Well, Willie will play it cool. I mean, you know how Willie's going to handle things. But, you know, listen, for any of these guys, if they grind through something over there and they come home and they can't play, then it's going to put them in the spotlight. Deservedly so. You know, as a pro athlete, you have to consider this kind of stuff. You've got to think of your club team. You have to consider, you know, your day job.
Starting point is 00:16:29 I understand why they're all grinding it out and they want to play. I get it. This is a, the next two weeks are. as big of a legacy, it's almost the equivalent of like playing in a cup final. It's like this is a platform for you to completely change your reputation. William Neelander included. Like Neelander's not known as a winner right now. He finds a way to be the man on a Swedish team that wins a gold medal.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Changes his whole reputation, changes everything, especially in his home country, launches him into probably Sundin territory. Do you remember that celebration they had for that Swedish team that won gold? Massive. Those guys were gods. Gods. God's. And Sundeen is on a different level.
Starting point is 00:17:12 But Neelander, to my knowledge, is kind of the man of this era. Obviously, Hedman would be high on that. I'm sure Eric Carlson's high. I'm sure there's a couple of other guys. But the Neelander name rings out in Sweden, right? It's a legacy name because his dad played. And he's the guy. Like, he's their best weapon up front for the most part.
Starting point is 00:17:33 So if he is a leader and drives play and puts up big, numbers and finds a way to win gold in the next two weeks, that is massive for his life and for his career. Same thing with Austin Matthews. Same thing with McDavid. The guys who haven't won anything, this is an opportunity to make up incredible ground in two weeks. It's not going to, it's not going to match you with cup winners necessarily, but it puts something on your resume that very few guys have. And that's what's in front of him. And I'm sure he's thinking that way, and I can't blame them for thinking that way. You know, this is it.
Starting point is 00:18:08 I'm not giving this up thinking about what's going on back home. You know, I'm going to gear up and I'm going to go for it and see what happens. But if you do that and it doesn't work out and you risk getting injured and you've got to come home and explain yourself, then you're in the fire. Because, you know, the Leafs, they're on thin ice right now in this market. They are on thin ice. you know, people are not in the mood for the Leafs with the way they've played all year, with the way things have gone, the way their best players are performed in the biggest moments,
Starting point is 00:18:43 all that kind of stuff. And guess what else they wouldn't be in the mood for? A guy coming back from the Olympics and he just can't go all of a sudden when he gets back and shut down or something. It's non-negotiable from that standpoint if you're a Leaf fan. It doesn't mean it won't happen. But, like, the sharks will be out. If you grind through and you're on one leg and you come home and say,
Starting point is 00:19:02 sorry guys, I'm done, I can't play. Dude, I told you, even the way it played out to getting to the Olympics. Yeah. The season was being flushed down the toilet, and it was like, can't do it, can't do it, got to get a couple warm-up games in for the Olympics, and it was like, I don't know, I found it to be odd, and I know how important it is to them, so don't come out of you with that, but I don't know, there's some kind of balance in there where a team that gave you $100 million should have some kind of say.
Starting point is 00:19:29 You know what I mean? Yeah. Well, it is. It's on the athlete, man. I think this is proof of it. They're moonlight. They can't make a call for something like this. If this is their job, they're moonlighting.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Really, they have a day job, and then this is their moonlighting job. And it's, you know, it's very important to them. Obviously, we'll all be cheering, you know, Team Canada. I was at Sport Check today, and I like them. Yeah, me too, man. I think they're pretty cool. The blood red is really, like, maybe it reminds me in my Calgary days or whatever, but it just, I like, I think the jersey's sharp.
Starting point is 00:20:02 I know there's a lot of detractors on it, but it just kind of, and again, I'm not there yet. I think it's when I see the game, then you're going to go, okay, I'm there, because I don't have Olympic fever yet. Like, I think it's the time change. Hayes, you said it yesterday. You know, the Four Nations was 8 o'clock, Marios in the building, Bell Center, all of that. First game is Thursday at, what, 10.30 a.m. So, yes, I'll obviously be tuned in to be excited about it. but it's not a night where you're sitting on the couch.
Starting point is 00:20:34 It's always different when it's not in prime time. It's just slightly different about the timing of it when I'm excited, but I'm not there yet. I'm kind of on the periphery just watching. Obviously, you want the women's hockey to do well. You know, downhill skiing. Canada's only got like three medals. That's good sense.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Yeah, we've got to get cooking now. Got to get going a little bit. We got to get cooking. We picked up another one today. I think we had a silver and a couple of bronze. Yeah. But, yeah, I mean, it's more. There's another gold medal.
Starting point is 00:21:00 There's another gold medalist that. had some stuff to say today. Well, he didn't win gold. I think he was silver or bronze. You're talking about the Norwegian by athlete. So for those not familiar with this story, some cat over there representing Norway won a medal, first time he's ever won it.
Starting point is 00:21:21 And he's doing an interview. And, you know, I'm guessing, obviously we don't speak Norwegian. I'm assuming it was a layup, hey, hey, congratulations. How does it feel? you know pretty standard stuff for any any journalist or reporter get the ball rolling and you're thinking it's either going to be cliched worked all my life thank my parents exactly or kind of on the weak side oh he's not media trained didn't really take it anywhere but okay i guess we'll see if i
Starting point is 00:21:50 can get anything out of you from the next question or the third or fourth question and this guy launches in to uh thanks for all the support what ride can't believe it but I met the most beautiful incredible women woman I've ever met my life six months ago woman of his dreams woman of my dream six months ago but three months ago I cheated on her
Starting point is 00:22:17 and now I can't live without her it's one of the crazier things ever I mean the guy speaking Norwegian I know exactly what he's talking about like you can see it in his face you can see where he's going and he's like, I haven't been myself. Like, he just goes on. He doesn't stop. But it was Dr. Phil for him.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Yeah. But he was literally just being interviewed after meddling. That's what I thought. The timing of this was very weird, unless he was trying to just on national TV back home professes love. Like this was a movie, you know, a fair tale ending for him. One last shot. Yeah. Like, no bigger platform.
Starting point is 00:22:54 I'm going to profess my love for her. But, guys, it's the worst possible thing he could have ever done. because everyone in the world who's familiar with the woman and him is going to go up to her and say, you can't go back with that guy? Right. Like he just, now he's announced it to the world, exactly what he did and why she got rid of him the first time. And that's three, not that there's ever a right time or whatever, but the woman of your dreams and three months later, you're like, I'm tipping the scales here.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Like, that's a quick turn of events for the Norwegian. But yeah, he's claiming I just was, I'm not myself. I haven't been myself. I'm not this. I'm like, obviously, you perform pretty well. She probably wanted to finish dead last. He's shooting his shot, and he just said, screw it. I got a medal.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I'm going to give it one last shot. If this doesn't work, nothing well. But wouldn't her reaction be, if I'm in her shoes, how jammed up can you really be if you still meddled? Like, if you finish dead last, I might accept your apology that you're really... And you quit halfway through a race or something. You just said, I can't do this. You can't go out there and set a personal best, and then afterwards say,
Starting point is 00:23:58 felt great felt great and i got to follow it up to get my girl back right exactly and maybe he's taken one last shot shoot me a note because if you're not going to get back into this i'm in the village for the next 10 days that might be it i might just say you got one last chance here because now i'm a medalist right you just do like you did in grade school take a pick with your phone of a piece of paper and it's just write down did that work circle yes or no and if she says no you floor it in the village and absolutely go nuts in there. I think that's the ultimate plan here. One last shot, even though he's the guy that's screwed up,
Starting point is 00:24:37 put the pressure on if it's a no right back into the village. Speaking of which, we'll get into this in the 5 p.m. hour, the fact that the Canadian team, it doesn't sound like they're going to be in the village the whole time, and that for whatever reason is a conversation that they should be or they shouldn't be or what have you. Village Gate for the Canadian team. We'll touch on that with Johnny into the 5 p.m. hour. Luke coming up as we move into the offseason of the NFL
Starting point is 00:25:05 pitchers and catchers already down and done Eden, right, officially reporting tomorrow. So that happened quickly. It's almost baseball season. We're at Pebble Beach this weekend. Roy McElroy, my guy, right? He's got Brian Hayes action down at Pebble. He'll be teeing it off.
Starting point is 00:25:20 You know I've taken Rory this week. I get McElroy for the rest of the season. Basically. I think that has to be determined. I got Scotty so you can have McElroy. Yeah, that's a tough one. I love Scotty, too. But anyway, we'll figure that out.
Starting point is 00:25:33 We'll make picks later in the week. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN5. All right, confirm or deny in about an hour. Mike Johnson from Italy in just over half an hour. Best bet's coming up later this afternoon. Shout out to Brandon Ingram, who's stepping in for Steph Curry at the Olympic or at the All-Star game. So you got Ingram there.
Starting point is 00:25:53 You got Scotty Barnes. Darko's going to be there, coach. a lot of raptors, a lot of raptors this year. And they're changing it up, they're trying, right? It's going to be USA versus the world. I don't know, we'll see. And I saw a report yesterday that indicated this summer will likely get the ball rolling on expansion in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:26:15 They're looking at Vegas and Seattle, Seattle getting their team back. So everything's coming up to Seattle right now, right? Wow. Win a Super Bowl, get the NBA back in town. the Mariners were really good. They were in the ALCS. Pais, you've talked numerous times about, I mean, Atlanta and hockey is a different story altogether,
Starting point is 00:26:35 but something happened where it wasn't working the first time, and there could be an ownership situation. Somebody just felt for some advantage of moving. Who knows what the business details of it, but why are you going back? Like, I don't know. Yeah, I mean, Seattle is a big league city. I really, I mean, they've been able to.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I totally agree, noodles. But if it was a big league, teams just don't pick up and leave, big league cities. Like I mentioned, there could be business dealings that I'm completely unaware of, but it just seems weird to go back. Yeah. Well, I mean, you're right. It is, to me, it shouldn't have left. I don't know the nature of why it left.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Like, I always remembered Seattle. It was Sean Kemp was their star, wasn't it? Absolutely. Well, I think they drafted Kevin Durant in Seattle. They did. They did. And Westbrook. Yeah, they did.
Starting point is 00:27:28 They're Westbrook and Hardin. I think they had all three of them they had drafted. And they had a rich history in the NBA. Like you mentioned Kemp. Kemp was around in the late 80s and through the 90s. And the weird thing is, again, they went to Oklahoma City, which is way smaller than Seattle. Exactly. Maybe it was business stuff and money and somebody.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I don't know. Yeah, I don't know the nature of the story. but I always just felt like that's the city that always deserved and should have had it anyways. I know Seattle had a Western Hockey League team, and they were always well, like, attended. Like they had an old gritty. I remember my first year playing there. They didn't have glass. They had chicken wire.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Like, it was scary. Like, it was going there. That's what's insane. High and hard off the chicken wire. We had a brawl there. We had like a crazy brawl. I'll never forget it because I was on the bench, luckily. A guy on our team, I was playing for the Spokane Chief, scored on himself.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Like a guy, you know, a defenseman, you go to shoot it behind the net as it passed out front. He one-timed it in our own net. And the Seattle scrum, you know how they cheer each other, skated by and tried to high-five him. Like you skated by the guy who scored on himself, and he went berserk. He attacked this scrum, and then it ended up a bench, like a bench clearing, and one of our tough guys was fighting a fan down the hallway. Like, all hell broke loose. It was crazy. Like, I just love that.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Fighting a fan down the alley. And he probably didn't get suspended in nothing. I don't remember. I mean, this is, keep in mind, this is late 80s. I don't think anything went on. But Seattle was always like a pretty, I mean, a major league city, in my opinion. And I don't know. I don't think they should have left the NBD.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Well, once they get it back, that'll be all big, the big four will be there, right? Because the Crackin are there and obviously the Mariners and the Seahawks. So, like, that's major. You get all four big four sports in your town. And I'm sure people in Vancouver would appreciate that. You know, it's not just a little jaunt down to Seattle to catch the NBA. If you're a big Raptor fan out west, you can go down and catch that. But I think it opens it.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Once the NBA does it, you know, the NHL is just going to keep trying to stay ahead of all these leagues. you know, I think that feels almost inevitable that they're going to go to 34 teams. And I don't know what the limit is in the NBA. The NBA might get to 34 by the end of the decade. You know, the NFL may continue to expand it. They haven't expanded in a long time. I'm not sure they will because there aren't as many players available around the world. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:09 It's predominantly Americans playing. Don't you think, like, weren't we talking to somebody off air about the NFL going to Europe, like having a, you know, like a division over? over there. I feel like that's next. That's always been discussed. You know, would they, they put, you know, two teams in London, a team in Berlin and a team in Paris or so, you know, whatever. Yeah, yeah. And just have a four-team division that play there. And, you know, when teams go over, you go over for two weeks, you play one team, then you play the other team, and then you come home, you know. I think it's on the table. I mean, we've been,
Starting point is 00:30:44 people have been thrown out the idea of an international Super Bowl for a long time. You know, would they go to London for a Super Bowl? Would they go to Paris? Would they go? It would be different. I think the American fan would be a little bit of stuff. I think they'd go nuts in the U.S. And guys, I have an instant update.
Starting point is 00:31:02 I told you guys, I know people that you have no idea. I know. Update here. After the Mariners and Seahawks got new arenas paid for by taxpayers, the city refused to build a new one for the Sonics. or pay for costs of renno. Howard Schultz from Starbucks was owner sold to Clay Bennett Oil Guy from OKC. So that's the business details of that.
Starting point is 00:31:26 And that is from our dear friend Maddie D. Oh, really? Say hi to Maddie. He would certainly know. J. Mack just sent us the same thing in their nose too. Maddie G. He was on. First on it, Maddie D.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah, Maddie would know. He's been living that life for a long time. But that's weird. at Starbucks money, you couldn't just, you couldn't buy it yourself? You know what I mean? Like, if you really love Seattle so much, you couldn't just, like, that's what, what's his name and what the Clippers did, right? Balmer just said, I don't care of anyone helps.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Two billion cash. I'll write a check for it, and it might be in tree planting money. Who knows? Right, exactly. Oh, I don't know. Were we talking, we were out having a drink, Hayes. Remember we were having a discussion with my buddy, and he's like, he thinks Balmer's going to get clipped here.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Something's coming, I think, for Stevie, because they got the, All-Star game, right? They're going to get through that, and then I think it's go time for Kauai and Balmer and the whole crew. Oh, man, man. I think it's just a matter of time. Could you smell what the rock is cooking? There he is.
Starting point is 00:32:32 One of the worst regular seasons of all time. Noodles. But I got to give credit where credits do. A win is a win is a win. Congratulations on a great play. Stay humble. Yeah. Stay humble.
Starting point is 00:32:43 I do have a I do have a statement Noodles and I prepared you know Noodles and I as you can see my voice a little raspy we had a pretty good time after celebrating our win
Starting point is 00:32:55 which was hard fought you know we didn't win the president's trophy this year which is my fault but the end of the day we're Super Bowl champs but after careful careful consideration
Starting point is 00:33:06 and considering all things noodles and I would like to award O-Dog because of his key contributions to team Owen Wilson and now team Nudelson, we'd like to award him a championship ring. What? Oh, stop it.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Stop it. Congratulations, Donog. We talk about it all the time whether a guy deserves it or not, and I think I deserve it parts. And I think I deserve it. Nunes and I went back and forth. We said, you know. We just thought about it.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Yeah. I thought maybe a necklace or something. You know how like there's a, always like layers. I'll take a smaller ring. I'll take a smaller ring. Your contributions. I knew you were a mole. The whole energy of this guy just sunk us.
Starting point is 00:33:55 No. I knew it, man. That's disappointing. Disappointing to hear. But I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised. Hayes, it goes to the bag again. Another year for you, Hayes.
Starting point is 00:34:05 I've won before, though, man. I got rings. With me. The last one you have is with me. I'm like Robert Kraft. I'm six and five in the Super Bowl. I went some. I lose some.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Parts, how about this take Hayes he had yesterday? He started to go down this path of saying the New England Patriots franchise is a bunch of losers for all the losing they've done in the Super Bowl. You said it. They're six and six lifetime in the Super Bowl. They've lost a lot more than anybody in Super Bowl history. Yeah, I mean, they've also won the tide the most in anyone in history with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a lot of losing, man.
Starting point is 00:34:41 I asked them, what about Cleveland Browns? Like, they don't even get a sniff of going to the playoffs. Yeah. Like, ask a Detroit Lion fan. Ask a Buffalo Bill fan if they'd be six and six in the Super Bowl. They'd be pretty thrilled. They've done a lot of losing, too, in the Super Bowl. Yeah, but you don't get anything for the consulate, like, for a second.
Starting point is 00:34:58 That's what I'm saying. I'm just saying. Bob Kraft has walked out of that stadium six times, five times as an owner, been like, man, I lost. Yeah, it's a lot of losing. Sure, it's a lot of losing. But in the same breath here, it's like, man. Been there 11 times. This guy's cooking.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Cooking. Yeah, I hear you. I love Joe from the bridge writing O'Dog Valachunus. That's exactly what he was. O'Dog Valentunus. That's a ring, gets a ring even though he wasn't on the championship team. Trade it from Marcus Saul. Only, you know, you guys, you didn't get Marcus Saul.
Starting point is 00:35:31 It was just a waiver wire pick. They gave Jonas Valentunus a ring. No, but that's where it all started. Remember we had the argument about who should get a ring or who shouldn't? Right. And I think you said Valachunis should get. a ring and we were all like, why would he get a ring? Doogie, looked that up. I think
Starting point is 00:35:47 he might have given him one. I don't think he might have. C.J. Miles went in that deal. You know, there were a couple of other pieces. But Valchunis was a high pick, top five pick, good Raptor for a whole time. It wasn't on the team. I know. No, no, no. I don't care. I just want I want Dugie to confirm or deny
Starting point is 00:36:03 that he actually got a ring. All right. Doogie, you can look that up. Where is Al's bro? Does he, you mean, you guys are awful to playoffs. You won't see him until kickoff, 2006. Come on, man. You want to talk about accountability? He's like the groundhog.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Like, he comes out around the Super Bowl just disappears. Him and Yoko were back on a cruise. Like, that's it. More so than the Waver Wire, I do think the whole Yoko thing might have thrown us off substantially. I planted that seed and it just grew like a beautiful tree. Because all of a sudden, Al's brother was off. Dude, he was off. I'm trying to make picks and there's like someone playing the accordion in the background.
Starting point is 00:36:43 singing. Exactly. O-Dog had his number. Early in the playoffs, if you guys would have listened to O-Dog and on Al's brother, you would have been there. As soon as Al's brother got engaged, guys, he put a diaper on and absolutely soiled himself every week. And I don't want to be disrespectful.
Starting point is 00:37:00 No. We're still working out the wedding details. We'll figure that out. We'll let people know. Yeah. Well, Seattle, I mean, that was a brutal game, right? It was an awful game. It was not a fun watch.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Yeah, New England was awful. And honestly, I didn't think Seattle's run game was awesome. Yes. But I didn't think Sam Darnal played particularly well either. I thought there was a lot of tight window throws that you just kind of missed a little bit. But it was not a fun watch. I'll say this though, Hayes, the biggest takeaway that I took from the whole Super Bowl win is that John Snyder is going to the Hall of Fame. Their GM president of football.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Here's a few. Here's a few for you guys. and I don't think it's being talked about enough. To go back to the Russell Wilson trade, especially now that we know what we know, the draft picks from that trade, Derek Hall, Devin Witherspoon, Boye-Moffey, Charles Cross.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Like, come on now. For Russ. Come on now. To get off of Russ. Yes. And then you look at that position. Okay. The Gino Smith and the Sam Darnold,
Starting point is 00:38:10 worked out was cheaper and worked out brilliant brilliant but the other one we're not talking about here is the DK Metcalf trade they got I think a fifth and a seventh they traded a sixth in DK excuse me they got a second and a fifth and traded a six in DK I believe the second round pick they got from Pittsburgh they flipped on the draft to move up
Starting point is 00:38:34 and draft Nick Eamon Worry parts what was the main reason DK going out the door Can you just explain that quickly? I think it's a combination of things. And even being on the field talking to, you know, we were, I was pretty, we got some good guests in the post game, PSN show. You guys crushed it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:53 It's almost like somebody knew their PR staff. Yeah, exactly. Who could have that. So I think, you know, talking to the guys on camera, even off camera a little bit, like I play with Jaron Reed. I don't really think D.K. would have been a great. fit in that locker room with what Mike McDonnell was trying to do.
Starting point is 00:39:14 You know, D.K., and I, this isn't a shot of DK, I loved playing with him, but he's more of a Pete Carroll guy to me, meaning like Pete ran a very liberal locker room, very loose, kind of guys do whatever you want, as long as you show up on game day, almost to a fault. I think later in that,
Starting point is 00:39:30 in Pete's tenure there, and I think, I know, it became a detriment. When I was younger, we had vets kind of police the locker room. Pete did zero policing. When we got older, we didn't really have those vets that were doing the same thing. And it got a little wild. And it's like, you know, when you have a guy like D.K.
Starting point is 00:39:49 who's had the success he's had in that style, it's going to be hard to kind of be like, hey, we've got to lock back in here and like, you know, it's a little more military-style disciplined locker room. So that would be my guess. You know, I think you see that this year, some of the emotion, you know, D.K. Punching the one fan. like let's go to Tarek Wollin on the Seahawks. When he got a penalty in the game for talking smack against the Rams, even worry is having an out with him on the sideline right there.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Like beyond the talent of Seattle, the selflessness that that team showed, all the way JSN's interviews, like they were just all beaten to the same drum, and I thought that was pretty special. Yeah, they had a great run, man. Like that, it was not a great Super Bowl. It wasn't a crazy build-up to the Super Bowl, I think, because of, you know, partially the teams involved, you know, just, and what I mean by that is they weren't expected to do this this year. Yeah. You know, the quarterbacks are cool stories, but they're not superstars.
Starting point is 00:40:52 They're not, you know, marquee guys. I also, this is a bit of a crazy take case, but I thought it was a bit of a down year in general for the NFL when it comes to great teams. Yes. Like when you look at the AFC, you. year. The one seed was Denver, who quite honestly didn't have very many games where you're like, wow, this
Starting point is 00:41:13 team is incredible. The two seed was New England who just got shellacked in the Super Bowl and had the weakest schedule since I don't remember the year, whatever that stat was. And it's like you go down the list, and honestly, I thought there was an argument that the best overall team was Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I thought, like, coming into this thing, I'm like, Jacksonville might be the best team in there, and they get bumped in the first round by Buffalo. You know, Buffalo had holes in their roster. Like, I don't think there was any team where you're like, wow, this team is amazing. And I would say it was similar for the NFC outside of Seattle. You know, Seattle was by far the most complete team. You go to L.A., offense was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Secondary is special, I mean, especially for the Rams. Like, down the stretch, the Rams secondary was torched. Yeah, they were getting beat up bad, man. Beat up bad. You know, San Francisco. You know, you're not really bad. Yes, the Bears. I mean, again, if you're captain, Ben Johnson, the Bears.
Starting point is 00:42:09 They weren't Super Bowl caliber, though. Not even close. You know, Green Bay is another one where it's like, I probably think Green Bay should have been in that conversation, but they just found ways to lose games. Yeah. And when Parsons went down, it was over. Yeah, so I do think that was a bit tough for the NFL this year.
Starting point is 00:42:25 And I'm going to have my own conspiracies of how college football and what's going on there is going to continue to, you know, degrade the quality of NFL football, at least for young kids, but I'll spare you those on today's show. Well, we're into the off-season now. What a run for you guys. Gotta give credit words to.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Alice Brother, I'm sure we'll pop up and congratulate you at some point. We had a good run. Yeah, you had a good run. And now we reset and we see where we go next year, man. We got seven months until we play football again. Six and a half. It's depressing.
Starting point is 00:42:58 But big off-season coming up. We'll get you on a bunch and enjoy yourself. Enjoy yourself. Musking the greatness. It's an absolute pleasure. One last. One last pro athlete salute. I just got to say this.
Starting point is 00:43:13 You'll always be my party, man. I don't care about anything else. All right. Great stuff. Where's that's brother, when I need him. I'm on an island here. I can do this for you, Hayes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:23 We'll give you the consolation prize. One last time. One last time is we ride off into the sunset. Luke Wilson. All right, buddy. We'll chat soon. There he is. Luke Wilson joining us.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Mike Johnson coming up in 15 from Italy. Confirm a deny around the corner as well. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on YouTube live. All right, Mike Johnson in about 15 minutes, confirm it deny coming up as well. As we get closer to the men's side of things, the women's side, Canada, got beat up pretty badly by the Americans today.
Starting point is 00:43:56 And, you know, we've been on the air, but watching it prior to coming on, speed appeared to be an issue. the Americans were just blowing past the Canadians. Yeah, they basically, didn't it not crush them in that rivalry series, too? Although this is what happens a lot. Like building up, the Americans win the world championships, they win the rivalry series,
Starting point is 00:44:16 and then you get to the Olympics, and Canada finds a way to win the gold medal match. I still think that's on the table, clearly. You know, it doesn't really matter what happens in the group stage. Make sure you get through the quarters, the semis, get to the gold medal game. You're likely playing the American. Americans, you're going to need Marie-Filippe Palin.
Starting point is 00:44:35 I mean, you just can't replace her. If she's injured and she didn't play today, that's big trouble. But if you can get her back, get some goal tenting, you have to grind it out. But that's the Canadian way. It's not big time. That's the way it usually works at the Olympic Games, right? So we'll see. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:44:54 I'm concerned there. I am concerned. And listen, I think it's exciting. but I look at this. This team USA program is serious. Like that's even the men's side. Like I think Canada is as good as they are, I look at that Swedish team.
Starting point is 00:45:11 We're talking about it. You know, William Nylander is a difference maker. Like they've got a good team. Finland, like, but this USA hockey team on the men's side, like they're serious too. The whole program is, man. The team that put up the World Juniors in Ottawa a couple years ago, that's one of the best teams I've seen since doing the tournament.
Starting point is 00:45:28 it's just real deal stuff like they were one goal away from the four nations it's just a real deal hockey nation yeah i'd like to do i'd like to figure out what or who is behind you know what's happened where they're producing all these players but it's it's impressive man at all levels well they got a lot of people to draw from you know and all of a sudden you look at this team you're getting kids from florida california arizona texas you know you know they're going to be there in New England and throughout the northeast and Midwest. But yeah, it's an impressive program. And it's one that Canada knows what's coming on both the men's and women's side.
Starting point is 00:46:09 Our two coming up. Best bets confirm it tonight. Johnny will join us from over there. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and up on YouTube live.
