Alex Ovechkin scores again last night and that was a vintage Ovi goal.
Vintage Ovi.
His shot is still so disgusting.
He went through a stretch like early last year Hazy where we were watching him where
like he doesn't even get the shot off anymore like what the hell is going on.
But now he just seems to be dialed in. And I think he's starting to sniff out
that the record is close and he's very fired up to do it.
As he should be.
Like if you just look, I saw a graphic the other day,
it was like goals in the 2000s, 2010s,
and I'm like, that is so many goals, it's insane.
Yeah, yeah, he scored 200 plus and all three of those
200 plus crazy. Yeah, it's insane how much he scored. You know, I love about though
He still loves every one of those goals
You know he scored that and a fist pump and he got jacked up for every one and everyone everyone
crazy
And his teammates strut like when they score the guy jumps
into the fifth row yeah like he's so excited all the time and good energy
that's the amazing that's what I'm saying about LeBron watching him last
night and paying close attention late in that game when it got close I'm like
this guy still plays like he's like like a seven-year-old forget your prime
that's being a junkie not not being like there was all this hype when McKinnon and Crosby
showed up to like an optional and they're the first guys on and everyone was like, these
guys are hockey junkies. Look at them. They're out there picking pucks up with their bare
hands. Like jumping and celebrating like that for just one of your teammates 15th goal of the season like
that's a hockey junkie man.
That's love it.
I think so much more important and a more telling ingredient of how great you can be
later in your career because if you're just a workout junkie guys that work on Bay Street
can do that like with all the like guys can show up get up at 5 a.m
And go into an hour on the bike and then go for a run and train for a marathon
Athletes obviously have to do it and if you're in incredible shape, it's gonna benefit you greatly
But you're susceptible to mentally just saying I don't want to do this anymore. I can't do this anymore
Those guys like OV
Like LeBron and there's certainly others, Tom Brady was like this.
Like they have to play. They have to play.
What I think is, it's their respective sports, Brian.
Like Ovi and Sid and Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews, they are hockey junkies.
And after those guys, you look at who's in management in the National Hockey League, Brendan Shanahan, Steve Iserman, Joe Sackick, these guys don't have to work one
day in their life, but they're competitive junkies and they're hockey junkies.
They love being involved in the game.
Yeah, I always pause the way I hear a friend of mine say, I want to start out in management.
I'm like, you're starting as a scout.
I'm trying to work your way up. I've got nothing against that, but I'm like, you're starting as a scout. I'm trying to work your way up. And I've got nothing against that. But I'm
like, you don't need the money. He's like, but I love it. I want to help. And I'm like,
I get it. Like, that's awesome. You know, and it always just blows me away.
Here's stories about Steve Iserman. You know, scout when he just started, when he retired,
scouting, you know, junior games or watching every Adirondack game and the A.H. House.
I'm like, you're Steve Iserman. We're the greatest of all time. But he wanted to learn you know junior games are watching every adirondack game in the age how like steve isaac
or the grace of all time but he want to learn and he did it and i i always have
so much respect for guys
to take it that seriously
yeah it really is a testament to how
much they love the game how much it means to them how much they want to get
back to the game they respected
and listen there's nothing wrong with the the other end of it
where there's a lot of guys who they they done and it's like, I'm out of here, man.
I'm gone.
I've done it.
I love playing when I play, but I'm not interested in this anymore.
But when you watch a veteran score and celebrate the way he celebrates and his teammates and
the wins, it's got to be incredibly infectious.
It's just got to be such a great vibe around that team.
They lost last night, which is a rarity Calgary very rarely loses
But there has been some discussion of you know, how Carberry could utilize him
You know when it comes to chase either trying to tie Gretzky
Which what is he 11 away from tying Gretzky 12 away from passing him and he's had a lot of empty netters this year
And they've had a lot of leads so they get a lot of empty net opportunities and would he want to break
the record on an empty net goal Spencer Carvery was on a radio show in
Washington this morning here's how he answered that are you putting him out
there to potentially get an empty net or an attire break the record are you saying Ovi you sit your ass right here we ain't doing that.
For optic sake.
Great great call and I've thought about it.
You have?
Oh okay good.
Yeah and I haven't I haven't talked to O about this yet but this is my guess is that when
it gets to that point I don't think's going to want to break it with an empty
netter
okay so that was a one oh six point seven the fan in dc
that's interesting the car bary is
he's thinking about it he's he's
kind of speaking on
behalf of much because he said that he hasn't
spoken of yet veteran because he said that he hasn't spoken to him yet,
but that he will probably keep him on the bench if he's a goal away. Now, I would challenge
that if it's game 82. Like if it's game 82 and he's one back at Gretzky or he's tied
Gretzky and the Nets pull, then he's got a chance to do it this season. Don't you have
to put them on the ice? Like empty net or not, I don't care about the options.
I wouldn't want to take the chance. I'd be like, who cares how you get it man? Just get
it. Just go get it man and get it this year so
you don't have to sit on it for five months until next year or whatever.
Exactly. It's not like it's his 20th goal. This is
like hundreds of goals. Right.
He's earned it. Exactly.
He's earned it. I don't care how it goes across the line.
No. Ideally, it's a one-timer from his office that would be great
that'd be incredible or a breakaway or a game winner in overtime or something
that obviously if you could write the script you would you would set it up
that way but I'm not playing with the hockey gods if it's late in the season
and he's one-off and it's an empty net i'm i'm don't go out there and
jerry pick of the after do whatever you can to try to get it
uh... joining us in the maple total hotline here's bruce budrow
bruce if you're in carbury situation you were for
hundreds of all these goals
uh... how would you feel about him beating the record setting a new record
passing wing gratsky on an empty net goal.
Well I mean it wouldn't be the thing you want to happen but it would happen if it's going
to be this year because I'm not going through five months of questions until next October.
He's going to get it this year and you know what I think the other team would want him
to have it too.
They could be like Edmonton three goals down and pull the goalie with six minutes to go,
just put Obi on the ice and Pilly scores, because that's what happened last weekend.
But I mean, he's going to get it this year.
It's going to be well before the last game of the season.
So I mean, he's just skating like he did 10 years ago right now.
So I mean, or even longer or even before that
So, I mean, I'm pretty sure he's gonna get it. Yeah, it seems like a man and he just again
They lost last night. It was a big two points for Calgary last night big big win
but he like you said he looks and
reacts as if he's you know, just breaking into the league with
looks and reacts as if he's just breaking into the league with such exuberance every single goal and he's skating with pace.
He's truly a dominant figure almost every single night.
Yeah, and I mean, the numbers don't lie, but let's think about it.
He's 39 years old now, okay?
And Gretzky at 38 years old. I love Wayne and he as great as he was
He scored nine goals in his last year
and
if
Obie played 82 games. She's on a 58 goal pace
It's unheard of it. It's so crazy. But you know what when he was young
It was like he would always be sitting there because Russian machine never breaks
He was like he would tell you that he's don't worry about me
Russian machine never breaks and that's the way he played and he's one of those guys that
In sports, I mean they come along they're bigger than life and he's physically incredibly
strong and he's just got that talent that he's going to break it and he's going to be
the greatest goal scorer of all time.
Brucey, what do you think of the Caps? Like they talk about OV, you know, deserves all
the attention. They talk about the team but but when they bring out the Caps,
they're like, they've had an unbelievable season,
but it's always followed up with,
I wouldn't be shocked if they got pumped in the first round.
Like, do you think the Capitals are the real deal
as far as a cup favorite?
Well, I do.
Like, I mean, I do Caps pre and post game a lot,
so I see them play all the time and being in Hershey and
I've come to really love the way they play. They play the same way every game. Now listen,
I think what Calgary won three to one, I mean the other day and that was the first time
they'd gotten points in 16 to 17 home games.
Um, they play the same way every night and they don't have bad nights and they've got four lines playing all the time.
They've got six defensemen that can play and they got two goalies that can play.
And they're in your face.
I mean, I, I've come to really appreciate that they play, you call it the right way, but they play a
way that makes it difficult for every team to play against them.
And when it comes into the third period, if they're up a goal, they can hold the lead.
If they're down a goal, they always seem to catch up.
I mean, I've become truly amazed and a huge fan of the way they play this year.
And there's no doubt in my mind that I believe that they believe they can win the cup and
it wouldn't shock me if they at least make it to the conference finals in the East this
year.
It wouldn't surprise me at all.
Bruce, what do you think the ceiling is for that monster protus?
A 6-6 just sniping goals.
Well, you know, you've got to think that he got three goals last year. And like when he
was in Hershey, everybody said, yeah, this guy's okay, he's a good player, but he's not
going to be a goal scorer. He's got 26 now. He's going to get 35. I mean, I may be off
by a number or two, but I mean, so the ceiling to me is next year, I mean, may be off by a number or two but I mean so the the ceiling to me is
Next year. I mean it's gonna get more even he's still a young man
he's you know, like I mean he's just beginning his career to me and it the caps have
drafted his younger brother to who's a really good player and
So I mean I can picture those two guys in caps
uniforms for a long time but Protus is a beast he's 6'6 or closer to 6'7 and I
don't even think he knows how good he is at this stage but I mean like he's just
another story in why the caps are doing so well like Protus and McMichael and
everybody else that comes from the first line to the fourth line
It's and it's making it easier for Alex to score because they're not depending on Alex to score
Like I mean, they're just I mean if Alex doesn't they can't
Put all their eggs and say hey the
Disdefense is going to be against Alex's line all night because the other guys score So it makes it the easier all the way around and that's why I think they're they're the real deal
They're a great team and I think they're going to be really tough team to beat because of the way they play with Bruce Boutreaux
Scoring is not generally something that the Nashville Predators do very well
They got you know beat up again last night for one home by florida
luke shen this is what he had to say
this is what he had to say about his team or the way they play
uh...
the overall team game
nothing's easy obviously
i don't think i've ever been a part of a group
you literally can't
score goals.
Obviously, sometimes you're giving up a lot or the game's not there, but at least you
catch a break and get the fuck out of there.
It's been hard to come by.
So the definition of a stay-at-home defenseman is Luke Shen.
That's where I'm kind of...
Your thoughts, Bruce. that's the where i'm kinda it cut at uh... your thoughts bruce him you know basic that's like
to use nfl parlance
you know defensive tackle linebackers and
are off our quarterback with the house going on over there
what is going on over there you don't generally see or hear that kind of
candor
what do you make that what do you make of it from the chan last night
well first of all i I know Luke very well
he's one of my favorite all-time players and he's as
Honest the players the day is long and I think it's a it's he's saying that we can't score
Because we don't go to the net. We don't go play in the tough areas. We're like
For want of a better word, chicken to go into
the tough areas. And I mean, he didn't say it that way, but it sounded like that's what
he meant. And you know, it's not like they don't have the talent to score. So I mean,
they got five guys on their forwards that have scored at least 30 goals at least once
in their career. Some have scored 40 and 50.
So I mean, they've got the talent to score, but if you watch the Nashville Predators play,
it's always one and done.
If they don't score on their shot or they don't score coming on the rush, they don't
score the in-tight goals that you need to win.
And that's what Luke's talking about.
Because I remember watching the last game, Luke's getting shots from the point,
like and he doesn't get a lot of shots,
but he was shooting and there'd be rebounds there,
but nobody's getting them because nobody's going
to those hard areas and that's the thing that bothers me
because Luke is the most honest player.
He had him in Toronto and he's been around
and he's had the ups and downs but he's a solid, solid
citizen and he's not saying these things lightly. And it's sort of like a calling out to his
teammates and saying, boys, you always ask questions why we're not doing this, this is
why we're not doing it without really calling out anybody individually.
Bruce, Seth Jones also came out and had some comments. He basically said Chicago
sucks, which is so true.
They are
so bad, it's
really looking like people don't know what they're doing there, and that's just
the plain simple truth of the fact.
But have you ever approached one of your players about comments made in the media,
or is that something you wouldn't touch?
You know, I I probably said it once or twice in the 15 years that I was there saying would you say
that for you could have said something different you know but like with Seth to
me it's a hundred percent is get me out of here. He says if you don't want to get
me out of here I'm gonna say things that'll make you get me out of here.
Guys, what's fascinating about him was he knew the team was going to be terrible.
Uh-oh.
Yeah, the option.
It gets emotional.
Yeah, and he signed there for all the money.
And they're still brutal, so that's quite a comment from him.
Well, and what he said last night, we have the clip.
Why don't we play it?
Do we have it, JP?
Because it is pretty scathing from a coaching perspective
because Luke Richardson got fired and
Anders Sorensen got in. So you got two different coaches and
do we have it JP or not?
Okay, here's Seth Jones postgame last night.
I think we're the exact same team right now as we were at game one. I think it's pretty pretty evident out there
We haven't made any strides to
Be a better more simple hockey team, you know and it shows you know
We don't get a lot of wins because of that
This is kind of an opportunity to gauge that since you started here and now 60 games and almost you're back here again
Well, this is in almost four years
on the week so it's not not just this year
for me at least
yet again it's a rich family he's not exactly been a world leader but he took
the bag he's making a fortune there he wanted to get the chicago and now he
wants out it's publicly known he's he's asked for a trade wants out
but if you're anders
sorenson bruise you know he's asked for a trade he wants out. But if you're Anders Sorensen, Bruce, you
know, he's saying game one we were the exact same. Basically he's saying this new coach
is doing nothing. Like that's how I kind of read it.
Well, why was he hired anyway? Like you've got to get, and I don't think you'll ever
coach again, but you need a Mike Babcock in there because like you fired Luke Richardson
in the GM. Now that arrows go right at the GM when he says, I didn't ever thought we were a last
place team.
Well, you are.
You stink.
You're terrible.
They need players.
What do you think?
They need better players, Bruce, don't they?
Yeah.
They need better players, but he's right.
Like he's, I don't know if he's right, but he's definitely pointed to that management
for not getting better players. He's pointed at the coaching hasn't been, hasn't done the right things to make
them a better team and, uh, is, you know, I mean, he's sort of taken the blame
away from the on the ice players.
He's blaming it all on management and coaches, which is, is a tough thing to
do unless you really want to get out of there, but it's going to be a really
tough thing unless somebody eats half of his deal you really want to get out of there, but it's going to be a really tough thing unless somebody eats half of the deal to get out of there or he's
stuck there, one of the two.
Yeah, exactly.
With Bruce Boutreaux.
So that Leaf win last night, that was a fun game, man.
They spot the Bruins at 3-0 lead.
It's just all downhill the first 20 minutes.
Stolarz was great.
Now I guess we'll start with Stolarz wall because both of them have have not been healthy
for a while they're both playing well stole ours
to his credit has not missed a beat
he was great i use awesome last night i thought he was to any gave up for it i
thought he played pretty well against carolina believe it was any because you
know by the third period it was just carolina was all over them and pushing
and pushing and pushing if if the it was just carolina was all over the moment pushing and pushing and pushing
if if the game was if you want was tonight
your craig beruber who gets the start
well i would i would start still are
uh... me just
uh... it won't been good to both coli's have been good but i just think still
are
can can steal you the game a little bit better were at this stage
than wall could.
But I mean, and you're right, last night's game, there was two tails.
I mean, the first two periods, Boston owned the Leafs and he kept them in there in the
second period.
But save after save after save.
But I tell you what, I was more disappointed.
Boston playing with the lead the last minute and a half, they must have gave the puck away
five times I mean what they were doing this was not the Boston team that
I'm so used to be to watching or coaching against that knew how to
protect the lead and and once you they had that one goalie I mean it was over
I mean granted they don't have Bergeron and they don't have a McEvoy or Hampus
Lindholm out there but boy were
they giving the puck away to the Leafs like you just said well the Leafs are gonna
score I would have I would have bet the farm that the Leafs were gonna score and
and and the overtime was just a perfect play by both Matthews and Marner and
they made it look easy. Yeah they did and you look at Mitch Marner in the last
week he's had and twice in that building in particular he turns the lights out last night with a beautiful breakout breakaway goal
He also he almost set up Tavares earlier in the overtime on what would have been maybe the setup of the year
And we know what he did on Thursday were two primary assists including the winner with McDavid
He looks great. He sound it's true study
including the winner with McDavid. He looks great, he sounds, it's true study, these are just facts, he's played great the last week, you can carve him all you want out
there. Marner's been outstanding and he looks relieved. All factual. Are you a
believer that this is a sign of things to come, Bruce, when it comes to Mitch Marner?
Oh, I don't know. Like, I mean, he's a great player all the time. I mean, I thought for me,
anyway, coaching against him, he had that breakaway after breakaway. You had to watch him.
Let's not forget he scored the overtime goal against Sweden too in that first game. But
I just think he's a great hockey player. He's got eyes in the back of his head.
When it comes to playoffs, it's a different animal for the whole Leaf team, the whole
city.
I don't know why we can't go any further because they've got a dynamic group of forwards
and they've got two good goalies.
And if TANF is not hurt too bad, they've got a fairly solid defense.
They're in the top 10 defensively at this stage.
So I want them to get into first place though,
so they get a chance to stay away from Tampa.
Or Florida.
I mean, I think it's important that they get in first place
and this year so they can win that first round
with some authority and go in with confidence
in the second round.
That's my thoughts on Toronto if they want to advance because Tampa and
Florida are going to both pose big problems but after March 7th they might
make a trade or two to make them even better which would be great.
Brucey what happens if this scenario goes down? The caps who you do pre and
post for and the Leafs are in the Eastern Conference Final.
Where is your allegiance?
The Leafs or the Caps?
Come on.
Come on.
Are you kidding me?
I'll be doing the Caps and every time the Leafs score I'll be cheering.
I mean I'll be doing the Caps games and cheering for the Leafs. Yeah, that's the one we want to hear from.
I like the Caps.
I love the opportunity they gave me
to start a career in coaching in the NHL.
But when I'm coming to cheering,
I'm cheering for the Leafs.
That's my boys.
That's it. That's it.
And all I mean, born there and played for them
and grew up as a Marley, so I'm a Leaf guy all the way.
There's no doubt about it.
We'd love to hear it. Just's no doubt what I'm here for.
Just a good Toronto boy, Bruce Pritchard. We love to hear that.
There we go.
Yeah, Strudy, you just don't understand, man. You could not understand it out there.
You do not get what it's like to have civic pride in your city. You have no idea.
When you get the tattoo on your butt but early in your life you keep it on
your back that's right
that's right for us
when all of us tell a cup tattoos on there for the lease and other i mean
how does it have a team of them
that's right for tea how many does that meant that of thirty fourteen yeah that's
why it was a three team league when they want those
uh... sixty million dollars or twenty one teams There was a three-team league when they won those. Three-team league. Six-team and you know it.
The Oilers were 21 teams.
Asterisk beside the Gretzky era too.
I mean, let's be serious here.
Oh, jeez.
As it should be.
All right, Bruce, we'll let you go there.
We appreciate you doing this as always.
No problem.
My pleasure.
There's Bruce Boudreau here on the Maple Twitter hotline.
Yeah, I think the 21-team league, man. It's not much more than six strud. No much more
It's not even three times more. Oh wait it is
Almost three times more I mean there's
Listen, I'm not gonna disrespect those like I love those are words where you hate on Gordie Howe and his career
Is Montreal loves to say 20 guys like they won their last cup in 93
That's like yesterday to them like they know they've won last year
Like they always are like you guys haven't won a cup since 67. I'm glad it's getting to a point now where it's like
Okay, your last was 1993 like it's not like it was yesterday
No, I mean about 67 is a little bit further back than yesterday. No kidding. What are we?
Is that we had 80 years? Is that 80 years yet?
Everybody feels like it stride believe me. It feels like it man it where was the last parade?
Like where did they take it was it down? It's a great great question. McCalky Avenue or what is that big street there they have in Toronto?
McCalky Avenue.
Maple, Maple, McCalky?
I don't know.
I haven't...
I don't believe that that's a street downtown that I'm familiar with.
Maybe it was there before, you know, the city amalgamated and grew.
That's a great question though, Strud.
Where was the parade?
I don't have that answer for you. Who was around that one right sixty-seven seventy-two b well yet
george armstrong was on that team yet davy kian was there right
uh... city nearly sixty if you're born there'd be around sixty which is so
there's a lot of wild still there it was a little time ago drinking beers on
mccalkie avenue for a uh... hey Hey, listen, the oil has been 35 years, Stroy. Let's not pretend like it was yesterday.
No. No, it has. It's been a while.
35 years is a long time, man. That's almost equally as embarrassing and tough. Almost.
Well, I mean, listen, I really feel like this is the year for Canada. I mean, I would want
a Canadian team to win it. I just think it's enough. We've had enough of this whole American
domination.
How would you rank your confidence level?
If you're looking at the Canadian teams, you've got to pick one through five right now who
you think's got the best chance at ending the drought.
I sure like Winnipeg, man.
I think they've got that goalie shy flee would be motivated and correctly right rightfully so I love it
I think Toronto, but you got to think about like I loved them last year, too
I know what but I'm working if my concern is that they are the modern-day San Jose sharks, right?
Think on how many years are like the sharks this is the year and then even with with
What a peg going back to when bufflin was there and guys like that like they got this and they didn't
Really get anything done. What if the orders are the modern-day Sharks?
Well, yeah, maybe I guess maybe different cuz I'm in the final once well
I'm just saying like they made it once and they were a great team every year and they made it. Yep. That's fair
I mean, that's that's that's probably that's probably fair. That's a fair car
I never had the best player in the world true Well, Joe was pretty good. I mean daddy boy heart there, but he wasn't McDame the box
But I'd go Jets Oilers
Leafs and then you know the other way that probably Ottawa for Vancouver for I think Vancouver's got a lot going on over there
Oh man, and they're in LA, and LA doesn't lose at home.
LA's big.
LA's a good team.
LA could be a sneaky team, man.
I don't know.
They could cause problems, big time problems.
Byfield, boys, I love that Byfield.
I love who's learning to play center from.
Those two veteran centers there, big and fast.
He and Fogel play often together
They're big and fast skate Moore's on that wing like they're a good team. Yeah. Well now doubt
He's back right playing that's that's big and campers been been good for them. How calm was he?
I know this is not but how calm is he in that four nations? I love them, man
I haven't played much but I'll come in there and I thought he was a little rusty and all since so calm
Yeah, game speeding up, he's calming down.
But he's been there and done that.
He's got no pulse on the ice.
He's been doing that since...
His whole life.
He was in Guelph.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean his whole life for sure, but that was his rep in Guelph.
You go watch him.
Well, think about when he stepped in as a 22-year-old playing with Niedermeier and Pronger and those
guys and all of a sudden by the end of the game he was the guy getting thrown out.
He's an unbelievable player.
So I'm going to tell you a story.
So that year that he went to that, just before the tournament we played them.
And so I skate up, we're in a faceoff and I'm like, hey, Drew, good luck at the tournament,
like at the Olympics.
And he goes, Strati, I hope there's lots of parties.
I'm like, yeah, I think there'll be a couple.
Like that was, I would have been freaking out.
And he's like, I hope there's a lot of parties.
I'm like, God, I love this guy guy and I've always loved him since then like I always
liked him before but man what an attitude to have.
Oh it's amazing and he probably just lit up that village in Vancouver having the most
incredible time and winning and playing great gold medals he won a cup two years later or
whatever it was with LA like just an unbelievable run
Unbelievable and he's still going he's still playing like it's incredible. It's him and said
Like that's an interesting question. Like if you went back to 2010, who would you think would have a better chance at still playing in?
2025
Jonathan Taves or drew dowdy. I
Jonathan Taves or Drew Doughty.
I went first and that was Stammer first.
Stammer Stammer went for Stamkos went first in that draft and I went second.
And the next year it went to Tavares won headman to back to back years.
Number one centers studs out of the O and the defense.
Stets for so that's just that's just a reality strut. It's a fact that the OHL produces if you want to go by just pure breads and stubs and
employers.
Yeah, for sure.
For sure there's a lot of weight in gold chains every year when they draft out of that.
But listen, you know what's funny is you guys, next time you do your salad makeover draft
is Dowdy on that list right there's some no
I've got considered he's not even he's not even close to some of the
There's other guys who are stricker types out in the world like there are some salad
We got to do the salad rebuild like after a while. Yeah, I know
Yeah, there's two things that we have to do coming up after the trade deadline burns like burns away
One is we got to do the final Rose doogie getting a date
That is what we have to do the bachelor doogie. Yeah, and the other thing is the salad rebuild
Okay, we can commit to both those and doogie. We're gonna run him through
The the mill here man, like Here's what we're going to do.
Is he looking for love?
Yeah, he's looking for love.
Yes, he's single and he's ready to mingle.
And Hazy, it might be, who wants to accompany Doogie with me and you to the alumni box and
he can offer, I don't know, rows?
Like if anybody says, yeah, I'd like to go.
Sure. Yeah, and we can just see how it goes and Doogie can pick the final rows and select offer I don't know rows like if anybody says yeah I'd like to go sure yeah and
we can just see how it goes and Dougie can pick the final rows and select the
final rows if he wants to I love that idea and I think in order for Dougie to
present himself properly the three of us will run him through yeah course of
questions and scenarios and we're gonna have to get him to answer them and the
next time the three of us are in studio we'll have Dougie put on a tuxedo and we're gonna
put him through the ringer yes we have to we have to interview him yeah we oh
we will and we'll have we'll have it'll be like the end of Survivor where it's
like hey Dougie good to see you you're presented with this scenario we present
scenarios to him yeah and he's got to answer them how he would see fit and
then we'll some sports as a GM some real life. Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely
I like it. Yeah dates with doogie and the salad rebuild draft. There's it's right around this corner. Things are happening. It's great

Tweet today about Paul George
We're getting up to March.
And this guy decided that
I'm not going to do my podcast anymore.
I'm going to focus on basketball.
I almost fell on the floor.
It was like, and he followed it with
I gotta help the 76ers win a championship
and I gotta just focus more.
It's March.
And they're horrendous. Time to dig in. I was astonished by that. Like that was one
of those, I got to check twice because that's got to be fake.
Me too man. Like there's no way. That's a guy doing a phony headline.
Right. And I would actually appreciate it more if he let it like cut to black and
like silence for 30 seconds and then came back and said, just kidding. I'm not actually
going to do that. We're awful. And it's February and I care more about my podcast and I'm making
45 million regardless of what happens. Because Paul George, when he's playing he's been terrible and be I don't know
when it beats gonna play again I honestly feel like it's more likely than
not that Joel and beats career is effectively over like unfortunately it
just kind of feels like well you say that because I did read a goofy tweet
that said Joel and bead has decided to retire and it was some goofy there was
fake I know but you believe it.
I did, I saw it and I'm like,
yeah, he's probably just his knee, that's it.
Yeah. It's over.
Those fake accounts that hit you with the thing,
the real, like you're like, yeah, I could see it.
Like I could see him beat saying I'm done.
But yeah, Paul George, wow, what a team player.
What a guy.
I gotta stop doing the podcast
strut cause it's go time in Philly now. Got to focus. We're almost at the end of the year.
I got it. I got to dig out of this. Dig in, dig out and dig in. Yeah. Dig out and dig
in for the boys. The mic is going down. Yeah.
Straub, that's like your D camp in the summertime. If you were never there and on the last day
you said guys, I'm not going gonna do the podcast with Rashad today
I'm gonna save the deep camp like it's just so outrageous that these guys I had an interesting combo with a guy today and he said
part of him thinks that this world of like guys making
45 million and he thinks the crazy salaries
In the kind of near to distant, he didn't know, but he
said he thinks it's going to come to an end where like athletes are making this kind of
bank and I didn't get into the reasoning.
I just kind of sloughed it off.
But he just said, he goes, I don't think it can go on that much longer where these guys
are making obscene amounts of money. Like Luca was going that's the system to make exactly that's the CBA is not going
to change like the owners get 50% the players get 50% like that's in the NBA
it's actually not really negotiating for the top players it's just kind of
standard like you're an all pro or an all NBA you're an all-star you're this
guy you just get that.
Supermax.
Yeah, exactly. The supermax. And that was it. Like Luca was going to make $75 million
a year. $75 million. And the guys hitting hookah joints all over Dallas and drinking
pints. And I think that's kind of what we're getting to.
Allegedly.
Allegedly. Allegedly. And I think that is kind of allegedly allegedly allegedly
And I think that is probably a part of where the owner may have stepped in and said man
I'm uneasy with this like I'm uneasy back of the day you're paying guys 10 million 12 million
That was a lot of money
75
For a guy that I like kidding about the. Like, if you follow that guy down
and the private investigator walks into a boardroom
and he puts in a vid
and his hits play
and this guy's bombing around
hitting McDonald's and drinking a
giant tall boy out of a brown paper bag
and stopping at a hookah joint
and you're contemplating
ripping off 75 sheets a year for the guy?
That's when somebody goes, I don't think so, man. out a hookah joint and you're contemplating ripping off 75 sheets a year for the guy,
that's when somebody goes, I don't think so, man.
It's easy for you to push yourself in that direction, right?
Sure, sure.
You gotta be pushed that way.
Go ahead.
But we still mentioned the other guy that said he did take us to the finals.
He did.
He wins a lot.
He does win a lot.
The numbers are incredible.
I think we're not too far away from a $100 million player.
But you look at it, it's just, and I hate to're not too far away from a $100 million player.
I hate to say just, but it's a percentage.
The percentage they're getting is the same they got five years ago.
Then you look at the NFL, it's gone up $53 million.
The salary cap in two years, $53 million.
Multiply that by 30 teams or 32 teams in that league.
That's a lot of extra money floating around out there.
A deal I signed two years ago, I'm like, geez, I could be another whatever up if I'm signing
on it. So the numbers are crazy. To think they were going to have a hundred million
dollar a year basketball player.
Which we will. Wemby will hit that. If Wemby is healthy, in seven years, whatever, when
he becomes a free agent, he will sign for five years at $500
million.
I don't want to sound out, I'm not anti-player because I think the point you're making is
a very important one, Strud.
Someone's getting the money.
I don't want the owners to make more money.
At the end of it, why are they making money?
Because fans are getting screwed.
That's why.
Because everything's so expensive and tickets are so expensive and drinks are
so expensive and parking and jerseys nothing comes cheap and that's why they
have so much money and the TV deals are so exorbitant and all that kind of stuff
the media writes stuff but someone's gonna get it and it's a CBA the players
are gonna get 50% so there's no stopping it it's gonna keep going But I remember having someone on about this because 30 for 30 did that great one.
There's that broke 30 for 30 with former athletes that lost all their money.
Dude, that is insane.
The car washes and the houses.
Crazy.
And someone has said recently that it might have been JJ Reddick who was talking about
this. I think it was, who said they're making so much money you can't get rid of it all.
Now, there will be guys that will, believe me.
Don't, like, challenge them, they'll lose it.
You know, Mike Tyson lost hundreds of millions of dollars.
342.
Yeah, but it's...
You just got to spend more.
Exactly.
And listen, inflation, it's more expensive to live now, etc., etc.
If you're making $75 million, you would think someone is going to go to you and say, just
put like $15 million cash over there and don't touch it for 20 years.
Bury it in a hole.
Yeah, exactly.
You can still live the most lavish lifestyle you could ever imagine in your life.
It's almost going to be impossible for them to lose it.
Furthermore, you're going to get impossible for them to lose it and
Furthermore, you're gonna get guys who are five seven years in the league that are gonna make 15 million now and be able to live the rest Of their lives as journeymen in the NBA that barely played
It's just it's an incredible way to do business and the NFL is no different like quarterbacks
There's gonna be a hundred million dollar quarterback. I agree a lifetime. That's common greed for
17 games
Her season a hundred million dollar Dax already making 60 million or whatever as soon as you say that it's automatic
Yeah, but again, it's what's the end it's right? So it's not it's that's we have to remember it
I'm not starting the crazy thing is that like the team doesn't go to Dak Prescott and say look, dude
you're not even in the same stratosphere as Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes
So don't ask for 60 like we're just not going there
It's almost like he has all the leverage with you have I mean obviously it's the Cowboys and it's Jerry Jones
But why didn't they say to him? We're not paying you that they're dummies like you just don't pay them
They gave Dak Prescott 60 million, and I know somebody could come at me with some stats or what I just think he's
He's Dak Prescott. He's Dak. That's what you're never gonna win with that guy
You're never gonna win with Jerry as the owner but him commanding 60 million
You tell him to go jump in a lake. Well, and and the thing is Dak probably would have said fine
I'll go somewhere else because the Giants are desperate within the division.
That is the million dollar question.
How badly does anybody on another team want Dak at 60 million?
Think about that.
It's almost like when you're loved in your own market, you can build up this idea that
you're worth a certain amount, but maybe elsewhere, they don't value you at that number.
Oh, well, I think there's a lot of validity to that,
and especially after the season you just had,
and now the injuries.
You know what I mean by that?
Yeah.
I got you.
OK.
I got you.
All right, Darren Drager at 20.

And this is the third one of the week. Let's hear from Al's brother.
Hey Overdrive fans, happy Wednesday to you.
Let's get you one step closer to finding out where is Al's brother and landing yourself
a pair of Leafs and Panthers tickets for March 13th.
This is a great spot for foodies such as myself.
So I will most definitely be looking to taste testing a delicious and diverse mix of foods
while I'm down here this week.
All right.
There you go.
Fine House Brother brought to you by McAlpine Ford in Aurora.
Our family, the Ford family and you, again, lease Panthers tickets up for grabs, the fourth
and final clue tomorrow.
St. Lawrence Market, no?
I think he's already been there.
I kind of I'm getting a Kensington vibe.
Oh, you're the king of Kensington.
I saw the handshake with Jay last night.
Look at you two just handshaking it up.
And it's great to see promoted it.
He started.
He went for it.
I was willing to walk away.
He wants he loves the handshake man
j like sit you've you've
sparked this kind of movement for him in his show and
uh... i credit you guys for ever in the there with them live think about it so i
will man
i will if i'm in their life for sure well i'll probably be in there
i guess for the playoffs or whatever i'll get in there for sure
i love it
yes it's your thing you and jay just like a buddy cop movie right Starsky and
Hutch you guys just doing your thing with the handshake at the end wins yeah
it's great it's great to see you see Kevin Kisner shanked that ball last
night in the sim the TGL dude I'm sorry I think that that that's coming to an
end like there's been a lot of cabbage
dumped into that, like Tiger and guess who's going to miss the playoffs? Tiger and Rory.
Yeah, you can't have that man. You cannot have a scenario where those two are playing.
Tiger is the only one that gets ratings. I just, the shanks, Tiger's hitting a wedge
from 195 yards and coming up a hundred yards short
i don't know i kinda was a common golf freak and watch golf all the time
i don't know about it i i think it might come to a crashing halt
i tend to agree the ratings are dropping quickly
uh... in the states i don't know about up here but
uh... and it's on too much
you know which is where to say because they golf every single week on tour
But you don't know, you know, who's playing who's on what teams, you know
They're representing these different cities and areas of the country that no one has a connection to
They've tried it they've dumped a lot of money
It's not going anywhere for the next year or two
But I'm not convinced it's gonna get off the off the ground and it's not Capco was there last night
So I found that interesting that I guess the live deals are up for Capco for the shambo
There's reports that the shambo and live their deals gonna be up and he's he's out
Like he's gonna return that he wanted 280 million for an extension and they told him to stuff it
So yeah, just coming back to the PGA tour
But that's gonna be fascinating because the tour guys were like, oh, so we should have just left, shoved 300 million in our pockets and then just allowed back.
Right. Exactly. Why didn't I do that?
Right. Exactly. But that's what's going to happen, right? Because now the tables have
turned and everyone on the PGA Tour wants the Liv guys back and trucks involved.
Yes, because Michael Campbell was coming down the stretch with Potgeater. That's why.
Exactly. They want them back. They're're like we got to have these guys back
Yes, the sport needs it to bring it back together
I mean when I was down at that Phoenix open is the way smash it was it was fun to watch it
But I've missed the big names, right?
I want to see the big names who I think are big names at least right and they if they're not playing strutty
You're not gonna turn it on the tube. You're just not gonna turn it on
If they're not playing strutty, you're not gonna turn it on the tube. You're just not gonna turn it on
Well in Capcus one there multiple times at the waste management. He loves that place He feeds the crowd like there's a perfect example of the Shambho, you know a big personality
Even having like Mickelson float in here there now Phil's different
I'm not sure Phil be welcome back like Phil if he has a game to play and he probably can't play anymore
Phil be welcome back like Phil all of you has a game to play and he probably can't play anymore
But there's a lot of really good players that are on live golf There's a lot of them that aren't very good and and you know you look at some of their tournaments
And you're like, I don't know who those guys are who are good and apparently they have endless money
But this live golf thing is burning a massive hole like
Huge to you there's like the private jets and the facility
like it's just burning a massive hole with nothing coming in yeah and I think
this the shambo thing would suggest that like they're like we're not doing this
again and they think they're close to coming back with the PGA tour and they're
like we've done what we've done and this is gonna have to be it for us final
hour coming up Darren Drager will join us. Sarah Orlesky
