TSN 1050 on the TSN app your home smart speaker and up on TSN 4
shout out to Weston you know many of those I've taken every time I go to your
course I get one of these water bottles. You're the only guy that takes them. Well cuz I
complain I'm always asking for water and then great people there they're like let
me hook you up. There's no way you're on the first tee and he's like hey
pal I got you one of these like you're going up to the starter.
Anytime I see that guy that brings those up, I'm like, nobody wants that except you.
I do.
Happily.
I love it.
It's great.
So let me get that off the desk here, but it's good to see you, Frankie.
Chesco is in the house.
What's up, boys?
How are we feeling this afternoon?
All good.
I had a thought this morning, like you got something you want to get to or you want to get right into this? No, go ahead. What do you got for me? If that
Hartman wants to appeal that 10 game suspension, Gary Bettman should be like, I'm giving you
an extra two for even thinking of appealing. We're pushing back like 10 games is extreme.
But I think this is my point. Like for people that thought it was too light, 10 games and
500 grand. that's enough.
It's a lot, but I think this is a perfect example of what on the books is supposed to look like.
Yes.
Like when you're on the books, the amount of times that Ryan Hartman has been throughout his career,
especially at the face-off, and Stuart's Liz's star, and he draws blood, and he DDT's the guy,
like 10 games though, I think that's fine.
Like that to me is not worth changing.
10 games is the reason for 10 games to like, I had heard whispers that they could be throwing
the book at this guy.
And the reason it's 10 games is if that goes funky, there's a chance that Timmy Stutzla,
if it goes weird, is crawling off the ice in a wheelchair.
Like that could get real stupid if you fall in a guy's neck the wrong
way or whatever that could have got real stupid it looks like an innocent play
but for the people that are just like oh he just tried to punch him off the
dog that was dirty it was malicious and Ray Ferraro said it a bunch when we
spoke to him on our show at five you got to start handing out some serious
suspensions again I guarantee you nobody does that again the next 10 right it's very
clear cut man like we all played like he knew exactly what he was doing he knew exactly
what he got slashed earlier in the game he didn't like it he took it out on him on the
face off he also tried to take off Cole Perfetti's face last year off a face off yeah with his
stick like he slashed him right across the face and he has a dirty player and I like that about him all that
like yeah every competitive person would be like that guy plays for keeps he's
got an edge to him which is fine but you're gonna pay the Piper and he has
yeah it's yeah absolutely and ten games that's a lot I find the 500 grand to be
significant it's like ten games is 10 games but you really got to chop
them up for 500k well that doesn't seem that's a lot of money it is it's a lot of money and
like we were talking a lot about that lucid deal yesterday and i don't think we we brought
up how much money he lost like i don't think we brought that up enough and I know that yeah with the
super yeah super max he lost by getting traded he lost a hundred and seventeen
million dollars like I get that we're so desensitized to money now in pro sports
and in a lot of ways it's gone so far the opposite way that the average Joe
just can't even comprehend or feels like it's thrown in their face I think that's
a big problem in golf right now all All it is is money, money, money,
live, live, live, and it's just thrown in the face of the average fan to the point
where I think a lot of people are completely turned off. And it's not that
anyone's concerned that Luca's gonna be, you know, struggling at any point. But
that trade cost him a hundred and seventeen million dollars how much
money that is like that's more money than anyone in the NHL could ever sign
for it don't you think maybe something as simple as this french fries yeah
french fries cost you a hundred and seventeen and I guarantee you somebody
from the MAV said when he was probably doing something stupid or eating garbage
like how much you like eating that? Is it a hundred seventeen million dollars? Yeah.
Worth of a street two? Is that gnocchi bolognese worth a hundred and seventeen sheets for you? Maybe you should have told the
waiter to stop with the parmesan like a little sooner. Right. But out of all those
injuries right like Windhorse went through them he like yeah he had the
calf he came back he was out of shape maybe after the second one you like, maybe I don't come back from this one out of shape.
Right.
Maybe I need to actually consider that there's a lot of money on the line.
And the thing is with the NBA as well is there's no negotiation anymore for these guys that
hit the top markers.
If you reach first team all-NBA, if you're an all-star, you're competing for championships,
there's no negotiation. It's just simple. It's a five-year deal, 350 million and that's it. If you reach first team all NBA, if you're an all star, you're competing for championships,
there's no negotiation.
It's just simple.
It's a five year deal, 350 million and that's it.
There's no asking them to take a three year deal or a hometown discount.
So really the only option you have if you're a team now is you either just pay him or you
trade him.
I think that's what's happened here.
I'm not big into conspiracy theories, but it's like Kobe Bryant was with the Hornets
drafted by the Charlotte Hornets.
Guess where he ends up?
LA Lakers.
And it is an incredible stretch of championships and Kobe becomes the black mamba and this
and it's just a, it it's a it's a fairy tale
Ratings are down all the sudden Luca ends up with the Lakers
Well, the Lakers are going down the tubes after LeBron's on his way out the door like as good as LeBron is a 40 years old I don't think LeBron's moving the needle like he used to man
No, I don't think 40 look 40 year old LeBron moves the needle. I I think that's very evident
I think if you go to watch him play,
he still would be very compelling, clearly.
If you have a ticket to go see him,
it's still something you want to do.
But it's not 15 years ago, LeBron moving the needle.
No, it's not.
It's not.
So all of a sudden, this guy, like, dude,
when you see a headline like outraged other general managers
that they didn't get a phone call about this guy?
Yeah, I understand why the conspiracies could
could get carried away a little bit and i and i do understand why
it makes a lot of sense if you're in the marketing department of the nba
for lucid dot is to be in l a
west chang brought that my attention he probably wouldn't want me still in my
head
glasses a man of integrity that loves the sport of
basketball. Do not throw him under the bus. I refuse to accept that. It also I
think is very fitting that in 2025 you have a blockbuster trade where neither
guy is gonna play. Right? Like the Lakers and Dallas are playing and neither guy
is playing. By the way, Dukie, Wes is around the corner. Go get him and see if he wants to come in here to defend himself.
Okay, yeah, if we just seward Wes,
we probably shouldn't give him that opportunity.
But Anthony Davis, they're in Philly tonight,
he's not playing. He's hurt with an abdomen issue.
And obviously, Luca, the Lakers are playing the Clippers tonight.
I love how Luca magically is like ready to go.
Oh, he's real close. He's day to day.
You see Rob Polinkin, his leather jacket
with the rolled up sleeves
today during that press conference. Looking slick. I
thought that was a shirt that was a leather jacket. It was a
leather jacket. Yeah, post a pic Joe. Look, look at this guy.
Like I was tweeting out that guy's going right to the
Roxbury after that press conference. The Butabe brothers
are waiting for Rob Polenka and like that is
so LA if he's the GM of the Memphis Grizzlies there's no way he's wearing
any other GM dude post up in a suit yes and like for that pick that moment it's
a suit it's the biggest moment of your career and he's been the GM of a
championship team you just made maybe the craziest deal in NBA history that everyone's buzzing about
And you show up that picture will be hanging in the the hallways of crypto.com
Forever and the guys got a leather jacket on and he wouldn't want it any other way now
Like this is how I express myself, and I'm different and I'm LA and I like that mentality
I sort of protocols for certain events
and I played with like just a mega Hall of Famer and somebody said oh at this
particular thing you're supposed to wear this and he just looked at him says I
wear whatever I want. I have a ton of respect for him. Jason Day walked around Pebble Beach in a
sweatsuit. People were outraged. That's extreme man. That's extreme. Like those
were legitimate. That was the Luca
sweatsuit when he got off the plane in LA. Like those were sweatpants. Dude, that's a homeless guy's
tuxedo. That's a sweat up and down. That was that different than like the pants, you know,
the baggy pants he was wearing. This is different. No, dude. This was like a sweatsuit. He was in
a sweatsuit. Like if you go to Walmart, There's a sweatsuit area and he picked out the pant and the matching top
Yeah, he rocked it like he's with Melbourne, right? Which is they're out there. They're an eccentric brand and he's the face
I think that was a miss though. That one to me seems a little bit extreme. Yeah, he wore another one
He got almost kicked off Augusta National. It said like Melbourne. Oh, yeah
Yeah, he wore another one. He got almost kicked off Augusta national. It said like Malibu on oh, yeah
Gustas like you're not wearing that out there Augusta told him you're not allowed to do that
Thank you, and that's what you kind of have to appreciate with Augusta. They're like, that's not how we operate now You're not wearing that you're not wearing that and I'm pretty sure he I know he did. He's like whatever you okay
I'll wear something else
But at Pebble on a Sunday like that was Sunday at Pebble I believe.
And he's rolled around with a sweatsuit man. Yeah he sure did. But yeah Rob Polanco rocking
the leather jacket and everything's all good out there. And like Eddie Belfort, remember
the Hall, it was one of my favorite moments in the last 20 years is Hall of Fame induction
weekend, Ed Belfort. Dougie Gilmore was out there, nice suit on,
everyone had a nice suit, and he wheeled out
with a white tee, a plaid shirt unbuttoned,
and a leather jacket unbuttoned,
and he just said, screw it.
This is who I am, and this is how I operate,
and I'm going into the Hall of Fame.
Dougie, there's a chance there was jeans
and a bar shirt on under the suit, but Ed Belfort basically just said, I don't even the hall of fame. Dougie, there's a chance there was jeans and a bar shirt on
under the suit, but Ed Belfort basically just said,
I don't even care to hide it.
Right.
Who I am.
Godfiller wears the best clothes.
Dougie would have been dialed in and he was,
and I'm sure Dougie was prepared
for the post-game festivities.
Like if he had to,
Dougie would wear a Rob Pelinka jacket
and make it look like a million bucks.
There's Eddie Belfort.
But Joe Neuendyke and Mark Howe and Eddie Belfort looks like he's walking in
to the underground. Pub crawl.
Honestly, it was St. Patrick's Day, pub crawl along Bloor West.
was St. Patrick's Day pub crawl along Bloor West. Eddie Belfort said I will I'm taking this TTC I'll be there in an hour and we're cruising right down Bloor Street.
The only thing that's missing is like a pack of Marlboro Reds right here in the chest
pocket. That's the inside though. Unless somebody jammed him up and
didn't warn him about the dress code. it's possible or he's just listen Eddie's the Eagle man Eagles they fly
solo and he does his own thing and I love I love everything about that it's
my favorite thing ever anyway we've we got a bunch of games in the NHL tonight
in the NBA tonight you mentioned Ryan Hartman obviously getting the 10 games
and we got the Leafs and Calgary it sounds like Mitch Marner and Ekman
Larson game time decisions I don't know what happened to Marner he took a hit or ten games and we got the lease in calgary it sounds like mitch marner neckman larson
game time decisions i don't know what happened to marnery he took a hit or
something happened on the edmonton game in berube
you know he's dealing with something in a specific area they're trying to figure
it out the time they could
i guess
possible from the place again and never misses games
or very rarely does
uh... but i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play based on yesterday's
practice.
They both played usually game time
decisions mean they're probably
I always think of it as myself,
though, like when I would tell the
coach, I got to check it out and
warm up and I'm playing right.
I would never take warm up and then
be like, I don't know.
And I it's two thousand twenty
five. God knows what goes on.
It's different. I was always the
guy. It's like, hey, you got to take warm up, can so and so might not
play.
And then like you watch the guys like, that's how he normally skates.
Like he's obviously playing.
You know, many times I saw that.
Yeah, he's out there, no helmet stops and starts.
You finish the line rushes, you go up to him like, you playing?
He goes, yeah, I was never not playing.
Yeah.
Like then what am I doing out here?
I was feeling great. I've had a few conversations where it was,
you had kind of the night off and I had to approach some people and say,
I don't know what you think you're doing, but you are playing.
Yes. That's tough. The opposite way.
When the guy jams you and you're not prepared for it. Yeah. You know,
and it's like, Hey man, I'm,
I don't think I'm going and you look like you're not ready to play like you need to be prepared to play
That one's tough. So we'll see what comes of it tonight, but it sounds as if if Marner won't go Max Domi's gonna move up and
You know it was around I guess it was around this time last year where he he linked up with Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi
and they went on a heater and I think that's an interesting look.
It's not as if Max is going to knock Mitch Marner out of the way clearly.
That goes without saying.
When Marner's healthy, he's going to play and likely play with Matthews because Berube's
been very committed to that.
I think finding some sort of role for Max Domi, because he's moved around a lot and
it just feels like they don't know what to do with him.
And he hasn't had a great year.
Like there's a lot kind of circulating around him
where he's got to pick it up,
but they've got to put him in a place to succeed.
And I would think if you play with the big guy tonight,
it's going to be an electric building in Calgary.
It's a big game.
Let's see what he's got.
If I was him, like if I was sitting down
going through his shifts and was trying to assist
him on trying to do something different, I would say let's not forget about, or let's
forget about every time he touched the puck the skill play.
You know, the spinner ram and then the saucer pass or look through the seam.
What I'd like him to start doing is just starting to implement straight lines. Like because that stuff that he has been doing hasn't
been working. He hasn't been producing. No. So let's switch it up and to start out
just be a straight line player. Go in the corner, be physical. Like for not a big
guy he's a powerful dude. He can go in the corner and knock somebody on their
ass. So be that guy that gets in, gets the forecheck That's a pain to play and it's to the net to the corner back check
And see if that just helps you simplify the approach
Because when you're not producing and you're trying to play that perimeter skill game and it's not what's the sense of doing it
Well, exactly
I mean
That's how I like if I had to sit with them and I was some kind of eye in the sky that said maybe go
Through a shift. I'd say look at this, it's not working, let's switch it
up.
Change your approach.
You'd think that's what Borube wants too, right?
Like how often have we heard straight line, you know, up and down the ice, get in there,
be physical.
Well he's at his best when he's got a little snarl to his game, that's when he's at his
best and then you know, you do that stuff and then all of a sudden some skilled opportunity and I think he's got a hell of a shot too so
when he get like any just never use I know never use I would say look man you
get in that shooting area you don't shoot the puck you're not going out
there the rest of the period I would force him to shoot the puck I think he's
got a fantastic I like his skill set I always have since he's been in the OHL
if you've been a young kid he's always tremendously skilled but what he's doing right now it's not working see I
always talk about it with every player you got to have some kind of plan B like
if your skill games not working you got to bring something else to the table
be a straight line player hopefully you can get your confidence back like that
just Matthew Nyes bang one in in front. Look what he did the other night guy
gets back in the lineup now he's on the first power play.
That's helpful, but he's right in front of the net, right?
Just take up space, man.
I think with Domi, if he can find a little bit of consistency here, a little chemistry,
it helps things because there's going to be some kind of move that happens for this group,
right?
Like we know they need to add something, whether it's a third line center or a forward, let's
say is coming in.
Someone off the roster, chances are,
is gonna get moved out at some point here.
So regardless of what, you know,
he's not gonna play with Matthews for the longterm, sure,
but at least if he can feel good about his game
as the, you know, lineup goes through a little bit
of a transitionary period, then you can put him back
with whoever and feel like, okay, he's good now.
You know what I mean? Like we got him playing with some confidence feel like, okay, he's good now. You know what I mean?
Like we got him playing with some confidence.
He understands like maybe it's the straight lines things a little more of a simple game.
And now like this was the spark that he needed to kind of propel him through the last bit
of the season.
Yeah.
And listen, it's going to be a fun atmosphere tonight.
I'm seeing flames players being asked about it.
And I'm always curious who's asking that.
I would assume it's Toronto media and that's probably, I wonder if that bothers the players
even more than the actual Leaf fans in the building.
You know, what do you think of Leaf fans showing up and being so loud tonight and then you
got to answer it and be like, wow.
Is it really that, like, it's the obvious question but what do you think you're going
to get back?
Well, it's just, it's like throwing it in the face of the Flames and the Oilers and the Canucks.
It is a storyline because of how great the crowd usually is, and I'm sure it will be
great tonight.
For everybody bitching about it, it adds to the atmosphere.
100%.
If you're a season ticket holder and you go through home game after home game where you're
like, crowd was kind of blah tonight
It won't be tonight. That's and that's what I was saying yesterday like going to Leaf games forever
You either go because the Leafs are playing or because they're playing a specific team or player
I never think of it as I want to go and be a part of the atmosphere that the other fans are gonna bring
That is something that the Leafs bring to these all these teams throughout the country where if you're a Flames fan and you're going to
the game I would think you circle this because it's so crazy and wild because
Leaf fans show up the way they show up right it adds to okay I'm gonna go see
Matthews player Marner player Nylander play or Flames are in a playoff hunt
this is great let's go root on my favorite team it's a different element
that is just completely unique to the Leafs as far as I know. I mean I'm sure Oilers fans travel out there. I
would guess Canucks fans, you've probably played in a situation like that
Frankie, they probably travel a little bit. But it and Habs, when the Habs go out
there I'm sure there's Montreal Canadian fans, sure they show up but not to the
same extent. Leaf fans, like Leaf fans, it's just there's no comparable to it when they
roll through Western Canada.
It's huge.
I heard you guys talking about it the other day.
I think Vancouver was the loudest, then Calgary, then Edmonton when it comes to the Leafs fan
presence.
It's fun from a player's point of view to have the battling chance, go Leafs, go Let's
Go Oilers, all that kind of stuff.
But I think you're right.
If you're a fan of another team, all of a sudden, you want to cheer a little bit more for
your team. Like it just everyone ups it a little bit more. So it's a, it's a cool thing to experience
as a player, especially your first go around with it. For sure, man. And that's what it is. It's
Flames fans trying to stake their claim to their own building, right? Just like in Ottawa, just like
in Buffalo,
in Detroit, in Montreal, there's just,
there's countless examples of it where Leaf fans show up
and then that becomes a side story.
And again, it's not even about the players
as much as it is about the fans, I think,
and their reaction.
And Dustin Wolf will get the start tonight
and Joseph Wall's going again.
And it sounds like Stoller's may be available
for Thursday against Seattle not no guarantees on that
But we are getting close to the four nations. I mean the guy's been out for seven weeks now, I believe
Like he's taken up every single second of the rehab and that's fine
but because they've survived without him and I
Appreciate the wall keeps playing like I've said this countless times over the last few weeks
The numbers have dipped a little bit and they could say percentage on the years
down in 909 or something like that which is probably around league average maybe a
bit low but the fact that he's playing and it's not a debate and you don't
hear anything about why he's playing you know he couldn't playing through
something or something's nagging him he may not be able to go that's a positive
sign he did the same it's a very positive sign for Joseph Wall.
When he started out the year injured, Stolaris took the net and said, sorry, kid, like,
fine, and I think you can argue to the same degree Joseph Wall has done that while Stolaris has been
out. He's basically said, I'm the starting goalie as of right now. Yeah. You haven't been around and
I've been holding the fort down as well as I can. I think it could be better for Wall, but I think
the fort down as well as I can I think it could be better for wall but I think he if if there was a musket must
win game
next wednesday i think wall would go in there
i i agree with you i think that's probably been established until you see
what stole arts returns to yes like prior to the injury stores have been
playing great as numbers are outstanding they both they both had a segment where
they both were good and that's what you want from them that's what the ideal
tandem is the only problem with that is before the playoffs
you've got to figure out which guy you're gonna roll with. Yeah you gotta
have a game one starter and you gotta have a game seven starter even more
important. Which I'm not sure like when Stolarz comes back. Well seven is do or die.
Game one if you lose it you're like okay we'll put the other guy in for game two.
Game seven there's no going back. It does feel like an eternity though, from game one to game seven, doesn't it? Right?
Like so much can change, but when Stolars comes back, I don't know how you guys feel,
I would love to see them just go Washington capital style 50-50, just alternate starts.
Why does one guy need to play two in a row at this point? They've both been hurt. They've
both had to play more than they should have.
I just like, a guy's shot out in a great game, I like put him in the next game.
The question is going to be, you know, what the standings look like also down the stretch, hurt they both had to play more than they should have. I just like, I guys shot out in a great game, I like put them in the next game. Yeah.
The question is going to be, you know, what the standings look like also down the stretch,
right?
Like Ottawa won again last night, they've won five in a row.
They're two points back of the Leafs.
Like, it's all of a sudden a scenario here where Florida is starting to get going again,
Florida's starting to pick it up, and they're in Washington tonight I believe, that's a
great game.
But you're jockeying for position and
you can't really breathe to the extent where you you're comfortably into the playoffs I'm
sure there's a lot of confidence they're going to make the playoffs but you are a bad week
or two away from being like in the wild card spot you know so you you don't really have
that much breathing room to I think establish a plan like that i think ideally that plan works that if
they had a chance to go to a different level where there would be some comfort
zone but they kind of pissed it away when they had that losing exactly
everybody came back you lose six of nine and now you're kind of back in the
middle of things that's right you run off
three straight wins you're going into the four nations you breathe again
that's right you're probably eight points in maybe nine ten points in you say, okay
We're good here get 27 games left. All good. Let's be realistic. They got three games left pick off two of them
Yeah, exactly. You get six of eight on this road trip. That's a great road trip
That's a and you got the toughest to the first game like you beat Edmonton in Edmonton
That's as tough as it's gonna get the mentality anyway
But I always used to say when I had leadership's talks in the locker room
if we'd win tonight
i'd be like okay boys we win the next two and now we're talking about a real
solid road trip you get the next one and then you're in vannier like
we're not going home without a perfect record boys we've come this far let's
make it a great road trip not just a good one
unbelievable leadership
run and throw walls than update for you guys.
Dougie Gilmore informed me that Eddie lost his luggage. That's why he wore the no apologies.
We have to I rescind all commentary because we love Ed Belfort.
Yeah, and we love that outfit.
Well, we just thought it was strange that he pulled it off.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, could we not have someone in the city hooked up Eddie Belfort?
Like, come on, man.
That's Ed Belfort.
But how much-
Hall of Fame goalie.
We respect Ed Belfort so much that if he did show up
like that on purpose, we would respect that.
Absolutely, it's one of one.
But now I'm glad we have access to that information.
Dougie, have the jeans on under his suit or no?
Never.
Dougie's one of the best
dressed guys in the world. Yeah Doug, Doug Gilmore brings the heat. Always. Hall of Fame night. How
many suits do you think he had for that weekend alone? I think he had four total custom made for
the whole weekend. I agree. I think the Friday night game, Saturday's party night, Sunday's party
night, Monday you're going into the Hall of Fame. I'll bet you, Doug Gilmour, four separate suits.
Custom.
All right, James Duthie coming in studio.
Duthie will join us.
Maybe get Wes Chang in here with his conspiracy theory.
Yeah, see what Wes is up to.
He's over there, man, I just saw him.
Okay, we'll ask Wes about where he stands
on a league conspiracy.
This is serious stuff, it's like Watergate.
Maybe he could put a list,. This is serious stuff. It's like Watergate.
Maybe he could put a list like top five sports conspiracies.
Well, a lot of them are in the NBA, although I will say this ref's chiefs...
Ratsky to LA is countin'
Ratsky to LA is pretty substantial, right?
The Knicks getting Ewing in the lottery, everyone points that out.
The cold...
How about the team here?
Yeah, the cold ball. Like the one ball that was...
No, the cold board or whatever. Yeah, lottery ball, wasn't it? The team here? Yeah, the cold ball. Like the one ball that was... No, the cold board or whatever.
Yeah, lottery ball, wasn't it?
The envelope.
Oh yeah, the envelope.
The styrofoam board or whatever.
Yes.
One was cold.
Right.
Would Toronto getting Matthews fall into the conspiracy category?
Possibly.
But I don't know.
How would that even go down?
And how do you explain McDavid to Edmonton?
If McDavid was in Toronto, then I think that would have been different. I think if it was a wink, wink,
nudge, nudge, although the Leafs were legitimately in the running. The Leafs had the
best odds to get McDavid at one point. At one point. When it came down to the
nitty-gritty, the Leafs had the best odds. But they were a bottom five team
that year, I believe, right? That was when they really bottomed out down the stretch
and I think Randy Horacek was here. Spoder and Horacek. Yeah. Was it Peter Horacek? Peter, not Randy Horacek.
I'm thinking Randy Carlisle. Randy Carlisle got fired and Peter Horacek took over.
I thought that name sounded weird. Randy Horacek. Although it sounds right too.
Randy Horacek's a guy that lives in Keswick. Yes he does.
Randy Horacek and he loves the show and Keswick. Yes, he does. Randy Horacek, and he loves the show, and we love him.
He has 20 garage beers.
Yep, and he's dressed like Ed Balfour, and he's having a great time.
Alright, so Duthie's coming up, and we've got confirm at the 9, about an hour.
Overdrive continues, TSN 1050 in on TSN 4.
Alright, Overdrive continues, powered by Fanduul or bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score
There is James Dutley panel night tonight least flames on TSN for and then are you off to New Orleans or yeah tomorrow morning?
Well morning very nice. I stayed uh usually we'll go
Sunday for the full week, but because we had a lease game Tuesday night and
My dedication and love for at least nation. I want to stick around. Jimmy, we're starting a blockbuster new segment this week.
Oh.
You know how your boy Puffy always brings up trade possibilities and he says, who says
no at the end of it?
That's the name of the segment.
It's called Who Says No?
We're bringing together different packages, trade opportunities, and which side would
say no.
Are they stupid ones?
I said Joe from the Bridge is not included and he's always like to borrow a sin
all we all for mckinnon who says no one not partaking in that nonsense
we're getting legit
transactions
okay here's one for you which
and they says no
battle of ontario in the first round of playoff
no who said well i was not saying no. Maybe Ottawa says no because they never
win. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, but they haven't been in the playoffs forever. Of course
they're saying yes. But you think, Jimmy, they're just happy to play, not just in the
playoffs, Battle of Ontario. I think they're going to forget about the past. I think it's
too long gone and they've had too much suffering in between that they've forgotten the suffering
against the Leafs. You think they're favorite? I do not think that.
I think it would be a good series. I think they would relish the opportunity to say that we
have been out of the playoffs and irrelevant for so long and you have been
knocking on the door and we just got here and we beat you. And there's not one
player on that team that was involved in any of that stuff before. So what
about from the Leaf fan perspective? Don't you think...
Yeah, I think they'd like it. I think the Leaf fans feel confident because of the past. Like,
a Leaf fan would have more ties to the the Senators Leafs than any of the Senators players would,
right? Because they lived through it and they and they would be confident and I think it'd just be
it would just add juice. Plus a Leaf fan is so sick of Boston and Tampa and everybody else in that division in Florida
That they want fresh blood too. Yeah, I also think it's a win-win, bud
I I listen I support it. I love it. I want to see it happen exactly there
I think you're overlooking the terror and the anxiety that would come from Lee fans for a couple of different reasons one Ottawa has own
The least during the regular season over the past couple of years. They have. Secondly, that Habs series in
21 was so scarring and so disgusting that the Leafs were so heavily favored
and they were gonna dummy them and Vegas rival and then the Habs came back and we
know what happened. There would be such fear from Leaf fans if Ottawa beat the
Leafs. Would it be worse than some of the stuff that's happened
in the last few years?
I think it's the worst thing that could possibly happen because for Leaf fans of a certain
age the one thing you've had for 30 years is the Battle of Ontario is completely lopsided
in your favor.
It's completely lopsided.
That's the one thing you're grasping on.
The one thing you have is that they never lost and Leaf fans take over their building and
Sens fans do everything they can to stop it. There's nothing you can do and we're the big bullies in the province.
If Ottawa got into the playoffs for the first time in what seven years or eight years or whatever and beat the Leafs?
I don't know. I don't know how they recover from that. Yeah, I guess I really don't know how to recover from that.
Stop it. What are you talking about? How do you recover from that? You have talked about time and time again.
Every year you say how to recover from that. And they seem to recover. They do recover. This is what you say every year.
After last year, I didn't think it could get any lower. And then I witnessed that that and this is the lower. I'm saying this is rock bottom. You really think that it would be the worst after everything that's happened, those losses
to Boston.
Absolutely.
This would be the worst.
This would be rock bottom.
The bottom of the barrel man.
The bottom of the barrel.
You can't take Battle of Ontario's supremacy away from Leaf fans.
It's the one thing they've got in the playoffs the last 25 years.
The one thing they've got in the playoffs the last 25 years. The one thing they've got. Challenge me. I gotta put something I'm gonna put a prop on to
reflect this commentary. Okay what do you have for me? Is this a bit? Is this a
running bit? There's the clown, the clown here. You're calling me a clown? That is a
clown comment bro. So clown question bro, clown comment bro. That's what you're telling me right now
Yes, because can we steal this for TV? I was gonna say this is trade center
Yeah, with all these trades happening right now. This is what we're looking for. You look like Carrot Top
It is actually pretty strong on you. I
like that you got a little case of
Little bits that you pull out and do comedy. Yeah, every once in a while. For those listening, I would just put on, how would you describe that?
A clown wig.
A clown wig.
Ronald McDonald wig.
A big Ronald, because we're going to bring in old suits that used to fit us.
When are we going to do that?
Maybe Monday after Super Bowl?
Monday.
Because we both have suits that are tarps.
Yeah.
Like, car tarps.
Like, covered cars.
Yes.
Both of you guys? Oh yeah. yeah. You know, he was a monster
too. You kept them all over the years. Why? Are you going to drag me into it? You know,
know that he was a monster too. At one point, absolute atrocity, absolute despicable, scum
human being. I love talking to people when I'm out and about, but they just, they can't stay away
from the negative.
Like, they say, hey man, you look really good.
Like, and I met this one guy in front of Farm Boy and he's like, you're looking great, man.
He's like, a couple years ago I was at Golf Town and you walked in and you were shy.
The way he said it, I was like, you can say the first part, but you don't have to backtrack
to Golf Town where I was a monster and you saw it and you were shocked.
You don't need to say that.
Yeah, it's not necessary.
Well, I did hear you the other day, you're talking about Luca, and I thought it was cute
because you were like, Luca, I hear he was pushing three bills.
Yeah, and I was 302 on 511.
You think Luca could give you a little call? Bill yeah, and I was on stereo to on 511
Luca could give you a little call. Yeah, hey, you should put him in your program
Yeah, absolutely. He just brought it up him being three bills cost them a hundred and seventeen million dollars Yeah, right be superman super max right? Yeah, and the taxes that buddy of mine brought that up
And I've seen some other people point that out going from Texas to California
taxes that body of mine brought that up and i've seen some other people point that out going from texas to california
if he signs with the lakers like that's a lot of money man is a lot of money
just wanna throw up the bodies everyone
like we were just so desensitized to the amount of money that that's insanity
it's crazy and again i'm not shedding a tear for luca but a hundred and
seventeen million dollars
that is a massive amount of money
that he just lost because dallas so don't like you anymore and you have to
Leave like it's crazy. We don't trust you. We don't want to pay you that which is the right
That's crazy amount of money. Yeah, somebody I thought somebody said like could the Lakers still this sound may sound stupid
Lakers could still give him that not the supermax. No, and you don't know under the CBA. Yes under the CBA
That's been rescinded. It's only dallas had the ability to do that i guess he could make money
other ways in la he'll be fine make up for it he'll be fine yeah um so we got a lot of canadian
content tonight right in on tsn of course you got leafs flames uh frankie you're doing the habs game
tonight right sharks ten have sharks you got ot got Ottawa and Tampa tonight. Sounds like Linus Olmark may be playing. That's why I volunteered to go late to the
Super Bowl due to the flames the 9 o'clock but then Seattle Thursday.
I wasn't going into the 10 game starts. I wasn't going Friday to the Super Bowl.
I draw a line that there's a big difference between the 830 pregame and
like the 10 pregame. So We have the game on Thursday too?
Yes, 10.
Okay.
You know what happens every year?
Lindsay Hamilton comes in, my Twitter feed just gets rolled with don't ever come back.
It's the same thing every year.
Always.
All you people out there are going to write that, then just write it because I know it's
coming.
Get out in front of it.
And I don't blame any of you.
Get out in front of it.
Yeah. It sounds like we saw mark me
be playing tonight
and uh...
you know that is a he had his gear on last night he was the back i know he
did the damco i'm coming back but i'm only gonna back up which is really
unique and that's modern hockey in a nutshell i can i can back up and take
some shots in warm-up but i'm not playing but it sounds like he's he's
gonna have to play tonight obviously he was backing up you would assume
but a lot of pressure on him and they've won five in a row Forsberg's been really
good they're in third place in the division absolutely both their goalies
have been excellent absolutely since he went out save their season yeah
because when he went down I don't know if he went down in the midst of that span when they were
losing you know whatever it was five in a row or something or right before that. I mean this guy just missed 20 games with a back spazzle.
Yeah it was right before. He went out I believe in a game in Edmonton that was right before the Christmas break.
And then Forsberg sucked for a while and they went on a...
Well Forsberg was out at the time and Levy like a Chevy had to go in.
Yeah. He played and then he played well and then forrest berg came back and then forrest berg couldn't play well and then levy had to keep
it going and then forrest berg's been ridiculous in the last six games or something yeah
yeah that's the biggest difference with that team because they're they were the
biggest goaltending graveyard since philly in the 90s and 2000s over the last 10 years so
uh gonna be a great first-round
playoff series. I'm looking forward to it. Can I do a Dear Hazy B question?
Yes, what do you have for us? Well I came back from the lovely Turks and Caicos
and I wanted to share with you a taxi ride I had. Which you live there. I don't
live there. I'm a... Tax haven. I have no accounts down there. It's not a tax haven. Stephen Ames lives there. So he
pays no tax. Like I was asking him about this down there. He has to pay, if you win money
on the tour, you have to pay in the, wherever you win. So you win in Louisiana, you have
to pay Louisiana taxes or whatever. But there's no income tax in Turks and Caicos. So everything
else he just takes home which is signet significant or
you're talking about taxes with luca okay so i go for dinner i call to get
the restaurant to call cab for me very friendly cab drivers in turks and keikos
where i'm staying is probably about a seven minute cab ride from the
restaurant one way down the beach
I already know what he starts going
He's got a bag of chicken fingers and he says
I'm not gonna try to do the Caribbean accent and insult this poor guy, but a very laid-back guy
He says I got to take these chicken fingers to my wife
And I'm like, okay. I've had a bottle of wine with our people there,
so I'm in a good mood. I have nowhere to go. It's 10 o'clock. What am I going to do?
I'm just going to sleep.
Why couldn't you just say, not on my dime?
So I said, okay, right? Because I figure it's going to be on the way, right? Gladys or whatever
his wife's name is. I got to take these chicken fingers to Gladys. He goes up to the highway
and turns the opposite way. Dude. So now my wife is squeezing my hand because she's nervous but I'm not nervous.
I'm a good judge of people. I can tell this guy's an okay guy. Just no
self-awareness. So I'm like okay where are we going here? We go, ah it's just down
the road here. It's you know eight minutes down the road onto a dirt road
onto another dirt road onto another dirt road. Dude, I am losing my mind. But the question is, is the meter running?
So, I'm assuming no, and I wouldn't,
but I'm like, I'm just gonna let this play out, right?
And we finally pull up to his little apartment
and poor Gladys comes out, she's terrified
because I don't think she thought
he would be bringing people to his house.
She comes out and I go, hey Gladys,
and she goes, ah, and screams, right? So she gets her chicken fingers. So hungry. Yeah, and then he's driving
out and his kids are driving back and he stops and has a five minute stop and talk with them.
And so it's a seven minute cab ride turns into a 30 minute cab ride. Now I just took it. I just
took it. But he did not charge me extra. But I just want to know, like, what
percentage of people in that cab are not going to put up with food?
Dude, this is why I've learned.
Am I the only person who would?
I think you might be, man. I, I, go ahead, O. How do you respond to that?
Well, two things. As soon as he started going the wrong way, I'd say, stop the car. I'm
getting out. Or drop me off somewhere. I'm not going this way. I'm never doing it. But
the second thing, and the most important thing i've learned is
as soon as he says
i gotta go drop these off to my wife you just say someone else is going with you
man cuz i aint doing it
save yourself the heartache i think i think that's the right thing to do i
don't know if you're driving about two minutes and he doesn't matter you say
how far if he says 15 minutes
which it was 25 you say sorry pal I'm not I'm not along for the ride like it
not knows what the hell could have happened that's the thing you're in a
foreign country like they're there they're safe I feel safe I'm sure you
feel very sick issues right now but yeah I hear you man I just I think you let
that one go a little too far I think it would have been very reasonable I think you'd be in for the adventure wouldn't you know I think what you that one go a little too far. I think it would have been very reasonable. I think you'd be in for the adventure, wouldn't you?
No, I think what you got to do is you got to have some kind of scapegoat. You got to
say, listen, my wife and I, we got to get back. We got kids or something like you need,
you need an excuse. Right away, you got to have an excuse.
I don't think he would have turned around. It doesn't sound like he was interested in
you at all. I had the same.
Husband of the year too. Should we point that that out like imagine telling a customer I don't care if you leave I'm getting these chicken
fingers to my wife yeah she needs these chicken fingers I had the same
experience that's a game I'm like I got a taken uber so I have to park down
there on the way back a couple's like where are you going I go I'm going to
Tobacco they're like us too let's share a cab I go great idea they get in
the car and then they start going north up Spadina I go where the hell are we
going and I'm in a mood I'm tired it's after the game and my head's about to
buy you get in a cab with someone then that's exactly what Bob McKenzie said
to me yeah they said they're going to Etobicoke what who killed I live in
Etobicoke cab is not a good
topical is not a street though like a topical is a large mean I know but these
people were so drunk and they were going to a bar like North Spadina and Queen a
king or queen I'm like this is not a topical and I start blowing a mini
gasket and they could tell that I'm losing it and as soon as and then they started asked
They're like, what do you do? I'm like, I work in television
And I have steam coming off my ears and the one guy goes did you supply for the Leafs?
And I just said no
And they got out and the driver was like you hate those people don't you I said you there's no one on this earth
I hate more. They told me.
Did they pitch in?
Did they give you any money?
They did, they attempted to, and I said, please, I got it.
You just gotta get out of the car.
Okay, well, that's a good story.
Awful.
But again, never share a cab with somebody.
It's just trouble.
Well, on the flip side, we went grocery shopping
the first day, and I was looking for a cab,
and this old couple heard me talking to the manager,
saying, could you call a cab for me?
And they said, hey, we'll drive you back back to your hotel that's a very nice thing to
do so we stick our groceries in this couple from michigan's trunk
they go all we always want to see why mara where i stay
so they drop us off on my duty want to come in and see the resort i'm not going
to show my room or anything like this but they were kind enough to drive me
back so they come in
and it's kind of a
dot exclusive resort
but you know there's like security there you're only supposed to be staying
there. So I got three bags of groceries I'm not gonna show them like hey I just
you know we go down to the pool like two hours later they're in the pool
frolicking. Dude this is a curb your enthusiasm. And now I'm'm like excuse the wife gives me a wave I'm just headed straight
to the beach. They're in the pool? They're 70 years old. Good for them. I don't care man. That's extreme but
good for that. That is a Larry Day home. I got a lot of weird rides in Turks and Caicos this time. I just simply would.
I think a part of you not say you and the husband get out of the pool Well, no, they drove me back. What am I gonna do?
I know but that's the thing that does not give you a right to jump in the pool
Part of the transaction the gods it is extreme
All right. What do you make of the Super Bowl? You got a like the line hasn't moved at all
I chiefs one and a half it has not moved at all. I
I
Feel like philly
but i said the same thing about flight i feel like when team has everything go
right for them all year like this was a crazy year by the chiefs you go game by
game
the games they won they shouldn't want to know i don't think that's been that way
in the playoffs they play great
uh...
so i want to take philly but i'd just get fooled every year and i know and then
you watch my home to go why the hell did i pick it as a
for the reality in suede in the states by the pundits saying
and they all refer to them as this, they say Philadelphia has the best roster in
football. Like top to bottom it is the best roster. I'm like
maybe they did they say that about Sam Fran last year too? Probably they did.
Sam Fran was favored last year and had no business being favored.
Yep they would have though that's exactly what it would have been. I started to bite a little
bit I'm like maybe the best roster in football has a chance against Mahomes but then I just keep
deferring back to Mahomes where he always wins. The guy always figures it out man. The Eagles were big
favorites or like six and a half I think the year that... A couple years ago. Or at least I remember
on our panel we all thought they were gonna win by 10 I think unanimously yeah he looks like idiots so
I'll probably pick Casey because I can't do it again give me a great game all
right JD enjoy the panel tonight good luck down in New Orleans thank you not
take cab rides in New Orleans wherever they want to take you that's not a spot
I won't be doing that all right no chicken fingers for Gladys good seeing you there's
James Duffy leaves flames tonight on TSN Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN 2. Alright, Scott Hartnell in about 15 minutes.
Confirmed deny coming up. Super Bowl week has arrived. Every incredible playoff moment on
TSN is powered by Bud Light. A refreshing taste that's easy to enjoy. Tune in game day for
pulse pounding action. And as we're saying with Duffy, like the spread has not moved.
They had the media night last night.
I think the Luka-Dontage trade actually overshadowed
the Super Bowl, which is pretty wild.
Like, that's how big the deal was.
That the last two days in the US anyway,
it's still just Luka, Lakers, LeBron.
When you find that first day to be kind of lame,
to be honest with you,
it's like the same questions, it's kind of...
Especially with the same team.
And it's usually people other than the players that are trying to make a scene,
like Ocho Stinkle was there.
Right, and like media members asking the goofy questions
to try to make it about them, to your point.
But I also think there's nothing new at Kansas City, nothing.
Like they haven't added players that you're overly interested in, there's
no new coach, it's the same thing. It was just like with the
Patriots, when they kept going, nobody cared until you got to the game. And I
think they take pride in saying it's not anything special, it's right there in
front of you, but can you stop it? Yep, exactly. And you know, even Philly, they
were there two years ago. We know Jalen Hurts,
we know Nick Sirianni, we know like Barclays different. That's the thing they have a run game that they didn't have
previously. And Jalen Carter's there and Carter's the guy like
you circle him like can he play the Aaron Donald role? Can he break through that line of scrimmage?
Can he get after Mahomes? I kind of keep thinking about it. I'm like maybe Philly with the addition of Barkley, maybe it's enough to get them over the finish line. And then I smack myself and I'm like,
it's Mahomes, dude. Yeah, that's it, man. I mean, you have to pay respect to the guy and the Kansas
City Chiefs and how they operate. Like I think I would take the points and take Philly right now,
but man, you can go either way and you can make a case for it. Like it's a really good,
it sets up to be a really good game.
And if Mahomes has the ball last,
exactly the thing, that's the thing you fear the most
is this guy has the ball last
and the game was within reach.
Absolutely.
Our two coming up, Scott Hartnell on Leafs in action tonight
among many other things happening throughout the NHL,
including the Buffalo Sabres,
making sure the world knows that they're never going to be
taken advantage of again.
That more still to come.
Overdrive continues.
