you know he's dealing with something in a specific area they're trying to figure it out the time they could i guess possible from the place again and never misses games or very rarely does uh... but i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play based on yesterday's practice. They both played usually game time

decisions mean they're probably I always think of it as myself, though, like when I would tell the coach, I got to check it out and warm up and I'm playing right. I would never take warm up and then be like, I don't know. And I it's two thousand twenty

five. God knows what goes on. It's different. I was always the guy. It's like, hey, you got to take warm up, can so and so might not play. And then like you watch the guys like, that's how he normally skates. Like he's obviously playing. You know, many times I saw that. Yeah, he's out there, no helmet stops and starts.

You finish the line rushes, you go up to him like, you playing? He goes, yeah, I was never not playing. Yeah. Like then what am I doing out here? I was feeling great. I've had a few conversations where it was, you had kind of the night off and I had to approach some people and say, I don't know what you think you're doing, but you are playing. Yes. That's tough. The opposite way.

When the guy jams you and you're not prepared for it. Yeah. You know, and it's like, Hey man, I'm, I don't think I'm going and you look like you're not ready to play like you need to be prepared to play That one's tough. So we'll see what comes of it tonight, but it sounds as if if Marner won't go Max Domi's gonna move up and You know it was around I guess it was around this time last year where he he linked up with Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi and they went on a heater and I think that's an interesting look. It's not as if Max is going to knock Mitch Marner out of the way clearly. That goes without saying.

When Marner's healthy, he's going to play and likely play with Matthews because Berube's been very committed to that. I think finding some sort of role for Max Domi, because he's moved around a lot and it just feels like they don't know what to do with him. And he hasn't had a great year. Like there's a lot kind of circulating around him where he's got to pick it up, but they've got to put him in a place to succeed.

And I would think if you play with the big guy tonight, it's going to be an electric building in Calgary. It's a big game. Let's see what he's got. If I was him, like if I was sitting down going through his shifts and was trying to assist him on trying to do something different, I would say let's not forget about, or let's forget about every time he touched the puck the skill play.

You know, the spinner ram and then the saucer pass or look through the seam. What I'd like him to start doing is just starting to implement straight lines. Like because that stuff that he has been doing hasn't been working. He hasn't been producing. No. So let's switch it up and to start out just be a straight line player. Go in the corner, be physical. Like for not a big guy he's a powerful dude. He can go in the corner and knock somebody on their ass. So be that guy that gets in, gets the forecheck That's a pain to play and it's to the net to the corner back check And see if that just helps you simplify the approach Because when you're not producing and you're trying to play that perimeter skill game and it's not what's the sense of doing it

Well, exactly I mean That's how I like if I had to sit with them and I was some kind of eye in the sky that said maybe go Through a shift. I'd say look at this, it's not working, let's switch it up. Change your approach. You'd think that's what Borube wants too, right? Like how often have we heard straight line, you know, up and down the ice, get in there,

Well he's at his best when he's got a little snarl to his game, that's when he's at his best and then you know, you do that stuff and then all of a sudden some skilled opportunity and I think he's got a hell of a shot too so when he get like any just never use I know never use I would say look man you get in that shooting area you don't shoot the puck you're not going out there the rest of the period I would force him to shoot the puck I think he's got a fantastic I like his skill set I always have since he's been in the OHL if you've been a young kid he's always tremendously skilled but what he's doing right now it's not working see I

always talk about it with every player you got to have some kind of plan B like if your skill games not working you got to bring something else to the table be a straight line player hopefully you can get your confidence back like that just Matthew Nyes bang one in in front. Look what he did the other night guy gets back in the lineup now he's on the first power play. That's helpful, but he's right in front of the net, right? Just take up space, man. I think with Domi, if he can find a little bit of consistency here, a little chemistry,

it helps things because there's going to be some kind of move that happens for this group, right? Like we know they need to add something, whether it's a third line center or a forward, let's say is coming in. Someone off the roster, chances are, is gonna get moved out at some point here. So regardless of what, you know, he's not gonna play with Matthews for the longterm, sure,

but at least if he can feel good about his game as the, you know, lineup goes through a little bit of a transitionary period, then you can put him back with whoever and feel like, okay, he's good now. You know what I mean? Like we got him playing with some confidence feel like, okay, he's good now. You know what I mean? Like we got him playing with some confidence. He understands like maybe it's the straight lines things a little more of a simple game. And now like this was the spark that he needed to kind of propel him through the last bit

of the season. Yeah. And listen, it's going to be a fun atmosphere tonight. I'm seeing flames players being asked about it. And I'm always curious who's asking that. I would assume it's Toronto media and that's probably, I wonder if that bothers the players even more than the actual Leaf fans in the building. You know, what do you think of Leaf fans showing up and being so loud tonight and then you

got to answer it and be like, wow. Is it really that, like, it's the obvious question but what do you think you're going to get back? Well, it's just, it's like throwing it in the face of the Flames and the Oilers and the Canucks. It is a storyline because of how great the crowd usually is, and I'm sure it will be great tonight. For everybody bitching about it, it adds to the atmosphere. 100%.

If you're a season ticket holder and you go through home game after home game where you're like, crowd was kind of blah tonight It won't be tonight. That's and that's what I was saying yesterday like going to Leaf games forever You either go because the Leafs are playing or because they're playing a specific team or player I never think of it as I want to go and be a part of the atmosphere that the other fans are gonna bring That is something that the Leafs bring to these all these teams throughout the country where if you're a Flames fan and you're going to the game I would think you circle this because it's so crazy and wild because Leaf fans show up the way they show up right it adds to okay I'm gonna go see

Matthews player Marner player Nylander play or Flames are in a playoff hunt this is great let's go root on my favorite team it's a different element that is just completely unique to the Leafs as far as I know. I mean I'm sure Oilers fans travel out there. I would guess Canucks fans, you've probably played in a situation like that Frankie, they probably travel a little bit. But it and Habs, when the Habs go out there I'm sure there's Montreal Canadian fans, sure they show up but not to the same extent. Leaf fans, like Leaf fans, it's just there's no comparable to it when they roll through Western Canada.

It's huge. I heard you guys talking about it the other day. I think Vancouver was the loudest, then Calgary, then Edmonton when it comes to the Leafs fan presence. It's fun from a player's point of view to have the battling chance, go Leafs, go Let's Go Oilers, all that kind of stuff. But I think you're right. If you're a fan of another team, all of a sudden, you want to cheer a little bit more for

your team. Like it just everyone ups it a little bit more. So it's a, it's a cool thing to experience as a player, especially your first go around with it. For sure, man. And that's what it is. It's Flames fans trying to stake their claim to their own building, right? Just like in Ottawa, just like in Buffalo, in Detroit, in Montreal, there's just, there's countless examples of it where Leaf fans show up and then that becomes a side story. And again, it's not even about the players

as much as it is about the fans, I think, and their reaction. And Dustin Wolf will get the start tonight and Joseph Wall's going again. And it sounds like Stoller's may be available for Thursday against Seattle not no guarantees on that But we are getting close to the four nations. I mean the guy's been out for seven weeks now, I believe Like he's taken up every single second of the rehab and that's fine

but because they've survived without him and I Appreciate the wall keeps playing like I've said this countless times over the last few weeks The numbers have dipped a little bit and they could say percentage on the years down in 909 or something like that which is probably around league average maybe a bit low but the fact that he's playing and it's not a debate and you don't hear anything about why he's playing you know he couldn't playing through something or something's nagging him he may not be able to go that's a positive sign he did the same it's a very positive sign for Joseph Wall.

When he started out the year injured, Stolaris took the net and said, sorry, kid, like, fine, and I think you can argue to the same degree Joseph Wall has done that while Stolaris has been out. He's basically said, I'm the starting goalie as of right now. Yeah. You haven't been around and I've been holding the fort down as well as I can. Why does one guy need to play two in a row at this point? They've both been hurt. They've both had to play more than they should have. I just like, a guy's shot out in a great game, I like put him in the next game. But you're jockeying for position and you can't really breathe to the extent where you you're comfortably into the playoffs I'm

sure there's a lot of confidence they're going to make the playoffs but you are a bad week or two away from being like in the wild card spot you know so you you don't really have that much breathing room to I think establish a plan like that i think ideally that plan works that if they had a chance to go to a different level where there would be some comfort zone but they kind of pissed it away when they had that losing exactly everybody came back you lose six of nine and now you're kind of back in the middle of things that's right you run off three straight wins you're going into the four nations you breathe again

that's right you're probably eight points in maybe nine ten points in you say, okay We're good here get 27 games left. All good. Let's be realistic. They got three games left pick off two of them Yeah, exactly. You get six of eight on this road trip. When it came down to the nitty-gritty, the Leafs had the best odds. But they were a bottom five team that year, I believe, right? And we finally pull up to his little apartment

they go all we always want to see why mara where i stay so they drop us off on my duty want to come in and see the resort i'm not going to show my room or anything like this but they were kind enough to drive me back so they come in and it's kind of a dot exclusive resort but you know there's like security there you're only supposed to be staying there.
