Hour two overdrive continues, powered by Fandul, bringing you everything from the opening line of the final score.
Brian Haseo, Doug Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles, McClennon.
Confirm and deny later in the hour.
Best but still to come.
Least savers tonight on TSN, Mike Johnson from the rink.
They're going to honor Daryl Sittler tonight, which I love.
50 years since the 10-point game for Daryl Sittler.
Oh, wow.
50 years.
I think it's actually in February, but obviously they're hitting the road,
and they're going to be gone for the Olympic break.
But a bunch of former teammates are rolling through town,
and this is what you need to do.
You have to honor your history.
And Darrell Sittler is, you know,
we just did the face of the franchise stuff at TSN,
and Wendell-Clark was voted on as the face of the franchise for the Maple Leafs.
But Sittler got a bunch of votes and Sundee.
Was Sittler second?
I think he was tied with, it was like Matthews, Gilmore, Sittler,
Salming, Sundee.
Like, there were a bunch of them.
the most watered down one out of all of them.
Seven different guys got votes.
Which I thought was weird because it's a franchise of a hundred years old or whatever.
And I think people are struggling to go, what is the face of the franchise?
I think it's actually fitting.
Like I think it actually kind of explains the Leafs in a nutshell where, you know, the last great winner was Dave Keon.
And everyone has immense respect for Keon and he got votes.
but he doesn't have,
he doesn't have like a footprint
in the city, in large part because of the Ballard
stuff, and he laughed on bad terms
and all that kind of stuff.
But, you know, Dave Keon
is not Wayne Gretzky, it's not a Mary Lemieux.
They don't have a Gordy Howe.
You know, the least, they don't have a Bobby Orr.
It's just, that's not the history of the team.
Did you vote? I voted. I voted. I voted Wendell.
I voted Wendell. So I went Dougie.
Yeah. And do you know why?
I was apparently off the email.
No, you were probably on it.
You flushed it 100.
Which is interesting.
You'll call people, but you flush your email.
Of emails?
Of emails.
You flush every email.
Dude, I don't use a company email.
I understand.
Okay, who would be your face of the franchise for the Leafs?
It's not best player.
It's not longest tenure.
When you think of the Toronto, it's when you think leaves, what face pops into your mind?
Daryl Settler, Doug Gilmore.
Okay.
Very reasonable.
My favorite Daryl's story is, he called me.
I didn't know it was him.
and he goes,
Oh, dog, it's sit.
And I'm like,
I'm not on a basis with him
where I call him sit because that's like his nickname.
And I'm like, sit?
He goes, yes, Darrell Sittler.
He goes, I'm looking to get a trampoline.
That was back when we were doing the trampoline.
The jump or whatever.
Oh, yeah.
Remember we did those trampoline advertising?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You were the face of trampoline sale.
Yeah.
And he's like, I'm looking to get my hands on a trampoline.
And I'm like, this is for sure a prank call.
No way.
Gerald Sittler's calling me to get his hands on a trampoline.
Right.
And I'm like, hey on a second, I've got to call you back.
Hold on.
I got to call you.
I'm like, let me see what the contact is at work and I'll call you back.
And I'm like, there is no way in hell.
And I call back and it's Daryl Sittler.
And he's really interested for getting a trampoline.
Did you hook him up with a trampoline?
Yeah.
Out of boy.
Spring free.
tramp. That's what, because I bought one.
Bring free trampolines. Bring free
trampolines. Remember those things? I remember them, man.
The tagline was like, you got to get
a jumper, a pumper. It was something
that was a long time ago.
It was like a suggestive in there. It was like a suggestive
tagline. Man, we, I think they probably
sold a lot of trampolines. Yeah.
It was like, you got to try out these tramps.
Yeah. It was something. Let me think it over,
will you, Charlie. I got a guy on the other
line about some white walls. I'll talk
to you later. Like, hey, sit, I'm looking to get
my hands on a trampoline. Imagine blowing off
Darrell Sittler.
Or he calls you and you're like, I got to call you back.
But you had to check in on the trampoline.
I had to check in and then I had to see if it was really.
So you go with Sittler, Gilmore.
Like you went with.
I went with Gilmore because I moved here 15 years ago and I've heard
8,000 times 93 Dougie.
Definitely.
Definitely.
All of that.
It's a great argument.
My two favorite players ever, Doug Gilmore and Wendell Clark.
The only reason I think of Dougie a lot is because it's the most winning of
thing.
Yeah.
No, I hear you. But Wendell was on that team.
Yes, of course.
And, you know, they're both so, there's still a big part of the community and everything.
And I said last night, social media, I think, helps Wendell.
Because if you, like, there is no better YouTube search than Wendell.
Bruce Bell, the fights, the goals, Marty McSorley, the best.
All right, here's Mike Johnson joining us here on the Maple Toyota Hotline.
Johnny, remind me who you pick for the least face of the franchise.
Not my roommate, Wendell.
not my captain mats
I picked Austin Matthews
and I think the fact that they had seven guys
who were voted for
if any one of those seven guys
had done any kind of winning
I'd want a cup
maybe two
then they all would be worthy of being
the face of the franchise
but none of them were fortunate enough to do that
I think Austin is the best player
of this organization has ever had
I think the team has been
as good as it has been
for a long stretch the last 10 years
and so I picked Austin Matthews
and maybe it's appropriate
for a franchise that is sort of well known for not winning at all,
that might face the franchise is a guy who's synonymous with not winning it all as well.
Yeah, listen, Austin, he's right there in the company,
and he will be for the rest of time.
And he's still writing the script, too, which is not a part of the project.
We're not projecting what it could be in five or ten years.
Right.
But, you know, he's the captain, which a lot of these guys were,
Wendell, Sittler, Gilmore, Sundeen.
You know, there's something about that, clearly.
Yeah, it's interesting.
Like Matthews,
I'm curious what he looks like tonight, Johnny.
Like it's such a big game.
Buffalo is a team he's connected to, right?
Remember it was like they both bottomed out at the same time.
Buffalo got Eichol.
The Leafs got Matthews.
Buffalo could never figure it out.
Matthews hit the ground running with the leaves.
And now, you know, the Leafs are sputtering and the Sabres are on fire.
What do you expect from the captain tonight?
Well, I mean, listen to know, we talk about the typical leaf game in a big moment, like Vegas.
So I guess historically you would not be anticipating their best.
But I got to believe whether it's Austin, who I thought played pretty well,
and it's Colorado with the seven shots and a couple crossbars and everything else.
The leadership group, how often, guys, does the leadership group publicly get called into the coach's office for a meeting before what everyone is calling a big, big game?
Why would you need that meeting, Johnny?
Well, and why would you have to say it publicly?
Like, you can have meetings and not tell people about it, right?
And so I think the spotlight's really on them.
I expect to be good, I guess, is what I'm saying.
I expect Austin to be good.
He's got, I think, a 10-game point streak and eight goals since the last 10 games against Buffalo.
It's clearly a team he doesn't mind playing against.
Now, Buffalo is different this year.
We'll see it in two hours here.
They're so fast, and fast teams have given Toronto trouble.
the last little while so we'll see what happens there but i expect austin specifically
to be pretty good in this game he better be because this is a this a huge huge game a team that
they're going to try to track down to make the playoffs if buffalo wins this then they're what eight
up eight's a big a big number in the standing so it's a big game johnny you know the
joseph wall getting the start you know much around that or did you expect him to get to start
you know even though stolars is is right there
if Solars was up and running, playing well, back in the groove, sharp and not rusty,
I think he probably plays this game.
And I think generally speaking, you'll see a lot of, if they're both playing well
or they're both sort of equally performing, you'll just alternate back and forth
depending on wins and losses.
But I think it speaks to Solars not being quite game sharp.
And how could he be?
He just played one game and he was not sharp.
Beyond that, they barely practiced or cancelling practices all over the place,
trying to salvage whatever energy they can.
So I don't think it's a surprise, but I think it says, well, certainly Joseph Wall has been good.
But it tells you that I don't know if the Leafs think that Storler is officially game sharp because he probably isn't.
So like you said, if Buffalo wins tonight, they're eight up.
If the Leafs win in Reg, they're four back.
There you go.
See, I told you yesterday, positive thinking.
Right back on the bandwagon, everybody.
And, you know, Seattle, Van, Calgary, all winnable games, right?
Like there is an opportunity here for some positivity before the end of the break.
But if you're looking at Buffalo, Boston, and Montreal, those are the three teams.
I believe they're all playing tonight.
Obviously, Buffalo's here, Boston's playing.
I think the halves are playing Vegas tonight.
So, you know, Tampa's gone, and I think Detroit's likely gone.
Of those three, Buffalo, Montreal, Boston, which one do you think is the most vulnerable to being caught by either Florida or Toronto or
Ottawa. I would say Montreal
because their goaltending isn't very good.
And it hasn't been. Dobish has lots of wins, but not very good stats.
You know that. Montembourg has had sort of a struggle all year long.
And they play fast and furious, but they still underlying numbers are not that strong.
They give up lots of chances.
They don't control play.
So Montreal, to me, love their offense, love their talent, their pace, their excitement.
But I don't know, without goaltending can be challenging.
I think Buffalo, maybe for the same reason,
their goalies have been incredible in the last 25 games.
So if they could play this line and Luke could and be anything like this,
the way that they play, I think they should be good.
And Boston's a wild card.
I probably put them in the middle.
Swayman's really good.
So that gives you a little bit more confidence that they won't go into a big rut.
Posterdoc's been incredible.
But Montreal scares me.
I love the offense.
I don't love the way that they keep the puck out of their net.
Yeah, I'm with you on the goaltending.
Like that seems the most likely position
where if it just melts on some team
you're in big trouble.
Ask the Ottawa Senators.
Yeah.
I mean,
that's the,
Ottawa,
if you look at it,
Johnny,
their underlying numbers,
you know,
some of them suggest top 10 in the league.
Yeah.
Like on both sides of the puck.
But they're not getting saves consistently
and they're in one.
And if any of those organizations,
Montreal,
Buffalo,
Boston,
you name it,
Florida,
all of the Toronto,
if they don't get goaltending,
you're not,
you're not going to be able to bridge that gap.
That's the way I feel.
I think all those teams, though, it's a sweat.
Like Boston, last year notwithstanding, has a lot of history of winning.
Like they, you would think that organization would be comfortable.
Yes, we've got 30 games, but we've been here before.
Buffalo, you know, Montreal, they made the playoffs last year.
They got red hot and just got in.
We've seen Detroit be in a comfortable position right around this time and completely melt.
So, like, Tampa will be.
Yes.
Tampa's fine.
John Gibson.
Gibson, exactly though, John.
He's been great recently.
What if he turns back into a pumpkin
or gets hurt or something like that?
I know it's a what if,
but my point being is you got the Leafs
who have nine years of playoffs chasing you.
Florida chasing you.
It is going to be uncomfortable for those teams,
like to make it to the finish line.
Which makes these games so much.
It's almost more important,
despite there being 30.
29, whatever games left there are in the season,
to give these teams that probably could use a little bit of a buffer
so that when things may get tight down the stretch,
they've got as eight point gap instead of four.
And I think they're all, you know,
and even when you say Boston,
Boston's had a great run of success as an organization.
Swamen, Posternak, McAvoy.
Who else on that team has had is part of that great run of success?
Not many guys that still play there.
We're part of when they're really good.
versus Toronto or Florida,
who have the same core pieces of when they thought they were cup contenders
or when they won Stanley Cup.
So you're right.
Like it seems far gone.
But if you can get to within four at the Olympic break,
then it's not,
not at all.
I mean,
there's plenty of time for those teams to go a little bit of a slide
or perhaps Toronto or Florida or go on a bit of a run.
So we'll see what happens.
But again,
that makes this game that much more significant.
This homestand has been,
by any measure, disappointing,
you could call it disastrous, whatever you want to call it.
It's been really not good for Toronto.
But if they can close it, get a big win against the divisional opponent,
guy they're chasing, and then head on the road,
as you mentioned, some winnable games, it feels different,
but if they lose tonight guys and lose not playing well,
then, you know, that tension just mounts and it's already pretty high around here.
Johnny, give the fans what they want and take one more button,
down. Take one more down.
Looks good.
Look at that. It's a phenomenal look.
Undo one more and give the fans what they want.
I'm dying for. National TV. There you go.
Should have seen me on the subway.
Oh, should have seen like people were just, yes.
I love when it's minus 20 out.
I drove here.
And so it was a long drive.
Probably a bad idea to drive in this weather.
But it took me like an hour or something to drive.
So you got to be comfortable.
So I'm going with comfort first.
and then button second.
What do you think, like, you're down at the ring, Johnny.
What do you think of the guys not wearing suits to the rinks?
I don't care.
I would say this.
My first three years, I would have been track pants, not track pants, but like casual
clothes and loving it.
My last 10 years, even with the option, I've probably been very in suits often.
Because there's something to me about putting a suit on, mentally, it's part of the process.
Like, you're going to work.
That's right.
This is different than a morning skate.
This is different than a practice, different on off date.
I am putting a suit on.
I'm getting dressed and I am mentally going to work.
And it's different than any other time I go to the rink.
I'm dressing different.
I'm treating it different.
I'm preparing differently.
So, yeah, I mean, I've heard you talk about it, though.
It doesn't really bother me.
I don't really care one way or the other.
You can put a suit on and play terrible.
You can wear a track suit and play great.
I don't think it matters one way or the other.
You know, I think the guys that are that age,
take casual clothes quite literally.
Like it is very casual and not sort of like business professional.
But again, does not matter to me.
Other than saying at the end of my career,
I probably would have preferred to put a suit on.
Well, and even like the clothes these guys are wearing are thousands of dollars.
You know, not that it matters.
Sure.
But like it, yes, it looks like casual, but it's not casual.
No, but it's custom.
I played with guys who could be wearing a $3,000 suit that looked like
they crawled out of a dumpster.
Yes.
And then other guys that, you know, are wearing a track suit made by Louis Vuitton and whatever,
it just, it's how you feel.
I'm an old cremogen when I think of, like, I look at it and go,
if you dress properly when you go to the rink or dress like, like,
simple, just wear a suit.
What Johnny just said, like, it's part, it was part of my process,
getting ready for the game.
Now, if I wore it, I feel like we should do it on overdrive.
I'm going to wear like, I wear sweatpants all the time when I'm at home.
Yeah. Who cares?
Well, that's true. We are working and, hey, it is.
People can't see you, though, right?
Like you're not watching you, watching you walk into your studio wearing flip flops and board shorts or sweatpants.
The other part about it.
I think he has.
No, I have not.
You have guaranteed.
Hundreds.
Hundreds.
That's extreme.
Oh, in his underpants.
That's.
so strong.
That can't be right.
A pair of shorts, maybe a pair of shorts.
No one says anything in the bottom half.
Shorts is fine, but.
I know, but the under.
It's just so unnecessary.
Like, just throwing a pair of shorts.
What if it, like, necessary.
Yeah.
Unnecessary visual, too.
Like, I don't need the other.
You know what the thing is?
What do you got on the desk?
Right.
You know, if we get up from our chair a bit early?
All the time.
And you're underpants or staring it.
Like, that's not good.
Just throw on shorts.
Okay.
You're lucky I didn't have a white.
Calvin Klein's on custom
insert.
With Mike Johnson
or PSN Hockey Analyst.
Johnny,
do you think
the Team Canada
executive brass
is regretting
not having
Evan Bouchard
on the team?
No.
Okay.
I think they acknowledge
how great he is.
I think that
the way that they plan on playing,
the way they see their team
broken down,
I don't think
they would see a role that would allow him to play
the way that he has to play to be his best self.
Kail McCar is a right shot offensive defenseman.
How much is Kail McCar going to play?
And I think what they are thinking is like, okay, he'll do some offense,
but I mean, moments when he's not out there, we need guys that we can rely on defensively.
And while I will be the first to acknowledge over the course of 82 games,
Bouchard does so much more good than bad, you have to take him.
He's obviously a huge net positive.
I think what Canada's worried about is that in six games,
it's the one negative, the one bad turnover.
He doesn't have enough time or opportunity to do all the good stuff that makes him great.
The same reason why P.K. Suban, when he was winning Norrist Trophy,
didn't play in the Olympics.
It's not because he wasn't good.
I think it's just, I think they feared reliability in the biggest moment.
So I don't think they regret it.
Now, he's incredible, obviously.
You know, that power play.
It's funny.
you watch the power play in Edmondson
and then you watch other teams just
struggle to even create a chance
and it's like a different game they're playing
and Bouchard's a big part of that so
I would say this
if they had their
redos I wonder if it's not
Zach Hyman that gets a longer
second look for eminent
players than Evan Bouchard
especially the way McDavid's playing and that
I love Zach Hyman man
yeah like he is cooking right now
but the thing is is Hymann knows how to play
with McDavid, he knows where to go. What does
Heimann have 23, 24?
Like, he's... He's very predictable.
He's got 20 goals in his last 28 games.
Right. So... That's like a 60-goal pace
almost. Now, power play, a lot of those.
You see on the power play for Team Canada? Like,
you're telling Nathan McKinney go take a hike?
But I think what you do is...
Well, no, go ahead, Johnny. Go ahead, Johnny.
It was going to be the power play, right? Possibly.
He was going to be the power play. He's not on the power play.
You need a net front guy. I think Zach Hyman's
the best net front guy for that group. So, yeah,
it's McCarr, McKinnon, McDaniel,
David Crosby and could be points,
but I think Zach Heim would have no trouble playing that role.
I would 100% if he made the team.
He's on the power play.
Yeah.
Sam Reinhardt, take a seat.
Two-time.
Well, Ryanhart is a bumper position one-timer guy.
If you're running a power play where Heimans predictable,
he spins and goes to that back post.
Very true.
They bank it off of him.
Very true.
You know, to me, he's, you know, respectfully,
garbage goal guy.
Like, everything is around the net.
They scored a six.
on five goal the other night, where
McDavid found him through the seam on the
back door. Like, it's just, they
their power play, you're right, Johnny, it's
an automatic entry through McDavid
skating it in. It's
kick it wide to RNH.
He banks it off the boards back to
Bouchard, and Bouchard skates to the middle
and starts distributing it. Like, you
look at it, that power play set up
for Team Canada, they might
be watching Edmonton game film and saying,
McCarr, you do what Bouchard's do it.
Bouchard's do it. You know, and
And McDavid's going to do what he does.
And who's going to set up in a dry saddle.
I think Sid's dry settle.
Sid is a perfect dry settle.
But then it's Nuge left shot.
It's not, you know, where does McKinnon factor in on that?
Right side.
That's Celebrini, maybe.
Just because Evanton has a dynamic power play.
You're not trying to recruth.
That's what these guys are saying.
I'm just jumping in.
What I'm saying is if you're looking at, you know,
setting up running routes, McDavid's going to run it in.
So it's just whether it's...
And just like at the Four Nation,
He's going to fire it down to sit on the goal line between the legs of McKinnon, Cross Nett.
Exactly.
They'll be fine.
You're right.
They don't have to run Edmonton's power play.
They can run their own power play.
Okay.
There we go.
We established what needs to happen.
I like it.
All right, Johnny.
Well, do your thing down there tonight, man.
Should be an exciting evening.
But I'm expecting a sell-it, I would think, and people to be down there.
I mean, the snow is kind of settled in.
Yes, it's cold, but it's a big game tonight.
Big game.
How many games in the last 10 years?
years. Have we been here in January
saying this is a really big game?
Against Buffalo, dude. Against Buffalo.
Against Buffalo. That's right. I guess Buffalo. Zero.
Haven't had many. So we'll see what happens here.
It's a buttoned up kind of night.
So we'll have to get right to it.
Yeah. I love it.
All right, Johnny. We'll catch you at Gord on TSN4 tonight.
Thanks, buddy.
There he is. Mike Johnson joining us here.

All right, love it.
All right, confirm with tonight coming up.
We've got some news on Bill Belichick.
This is ridiculous news, if that's true.
I'm sorry.
Not coaching related, but Hall of Fame related.
We'll come back and tell you about that.
Best bets still to come as well.
Overdrive continues.

I can neither confirm or deny that this is
fake to Cigna. Austin trades Andrew Raycroft to Toronto in exchange for the rights to Tucka Rass.
It's been my honor and a privilege to serve as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club.
It's time for confirm or deny.
Do you regret giving all those gentlemen the no trades or no movement clauses?
I can either confirm or deny there.
I can't confirm or deny.
All right, confirm or deny. And according to
I guess Adam Schaefter, who tweeted this out, and others at ESPN,
Bill Belichick is not a first ballot Hall of Famer.
See, I think that's ridiculous.
They're looking at the girlfriend.
They're looking at what's going on in his life.
That's impossible.
And they're judging him.
Yeah, I guess he fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed
for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
That's what it feels like to me.
It feels vindictive.
It is.
It's a bunch of writers or whatever that are like, I don't like him.
He was rude to me.
Rude to over the years.
And then they're judging him going, now this guy's got a clown show going on.
He's on ring cameras.
He's got a 24-year-old girlfriend and all of this.
They're judging because his body of work is Hall of Fame.
If he's not a first ballot Hall of Fame, then no coach ever should be.
Think of all of his pressers where he just stared at people who said on to Washington.
So it happens a lot.
Do they post who votes?
I don't know if those people should be held accountable.
That's a good question.
I don't know if, because the Hockey Hall of Fame, they don't announce anything.
Right.
Like they announce if you got in or not, but they don't announce who voted for what.
Like, it's all kind of a closed door, you know, silent ballots or whatever.
Remember there was a hero that didn't put Jeter in?
Yeah.
Now, historically, the Baseball Hall of Fame did not put people in unanimously.
Like, it was a weird thing.
I don't think anyone ever went in with 100% of the vote.
Right.
That's including like Babe Ruth and stuff.
It was just, I don't know why that was a part of the program.
So it's actually a recent development.
Like, Jeter was always getting in.
This is different.
Like if he got 49 of 50 votes, we'd have that chat.
Who's the guy who didn't put Belichick in?
But he'd be going in.
Right.
There's 10.
He's not even getting in.
There may be more than 10.
You need 40 of 50.
There may have been 30 people, 20 that didn't vote for him.
Which is, that sounds vindictive.
That sounds like a...
Yeah, I don't get how Bill Belichick is in a first ballot hall of famer.
Like, how is he not?
It's impossible.
Like you said, if he's not, then no one else is.
Yeah.
Eight times Super Bowl winning head coach.
And I think six with New England and he won two as a coordinator in New York.
Yeah.
You know, with the Giants.
Yeah.
He's, that's outrageous.
It's crazy that Belichick is not a first ballot hall of famer.
I would love to hear somebody from that committee
in their thought process to go,
this is what we,
this is what the criteria was,
this is what, like,
this is how we came to that conclusion.
There's not,
what happens, right?
Like, I know,
I know what's happened in baseball historically.
Like, there were guys that just didn't get in
because they were jerks and,
you know, they treated media members horribly,
and the media's like, we're not putting you in then.
You know, it's like, okay.
But that's petty and shout.
Yeah, it's like, what are you in high school?
Like, I get the guy's a clown, but you're,
and it doesn't,
skews the behavior, but it's like
you're voting on what the guy did on the field.
Was he a Hall of Famer or not?
Wasn't Barry Bonds known as a jackass to people?
By all accounts, you know.
Like really awful to media members and stuff like that.
There's a lot of athletes in over history that treated media poorly.
But like, you know, it happens, but.
Yeah, it just, it doesn't, you got to remove a motion and go, okay, yes or no,
in or out.
And Belichick's a grand slam hall of favor.
famer. There's no other way around it. There's no other answer. I don't know how you
explain. He's not going in. But evidently he's not. Maybe Luke will have
a different take on it, but there's no way. Yeah, unless we're missing the history where it's like
that's just the way it goes. No, it isn't. You know what I mean? I can't be like that.
I would think so, but that's what I'm saying. Like Bill Walsh didn't get in his first
time. And you know, it's like, that's just the way it goes. The all time great,
Chuck Knoll didn't get in. It's like, oh, okay. Tom Landry didn't get in.
Joe Namath.
Yeah, exactly.
Like maybe there's a history of that.
I'm not aware of it, but short of that, it doesn't make much sense.
Yeah.
That's a weird one.
Okay.
Let's get to some confirm and deny.
Joe, I'm going to skip a couple of here, so you've got to be on your toes.
Let's start with a Stuart Skinner one.
Oh.
Confirm and deny.
Stuart Skinner has completely redeemed himself in Pittsburgh.
Even though I know that noodles will deny this, I'm confirming it.
He's the new dominator.
And I love what he's doing.
And Andy Kyoto, you gave a shout out to Andy.
I'll back it up.
Stuart Skinner is back.
And I love seeing it, too.
That's a great story.
Did he leave?
Like, the guy went to two cup finals.
Yeah.
But it became a point where it's like you have to leave.
Yeah, we got to, yeah.
Like they traded them because it's like, and we all agreed with that.
I think, right?
Like, it was kind of like, you just have to get out of here.
I think they needed a different direction.
And I've always maintained.
They needed a different style of goaltender to play for them.
Somebody with a clean butterfly.
What they did is they traded Skinner, who's 6'44 and is very kind of methodical in the net.
Jari's a little bit more athletic, who's 6'4, cleaner butterfly.
Ingram, same thing.
Really has great motion.
I just think that Edmonton needed a different style goaltender.
I don't know if
redeemed himself.
You're going to confirm that.
I'm going to deny it because it's still too early.
I was just going to say, but he's only, he's like eight and one.
Yeah, he's been there for.
Go ahead and deny it.
I'm going to deny it because the other thing is,
is I didn't think there was this massive drop-off.
Statistically, he's had a decent season.
It's just that's the,
he needed a change.
And I'm happy for him in Pittsburgh.
It's quiet.
and he can play goal and be good for them.
And he has.
So I'm happy for him, but I'm still denying it.
He's a great job.
I'm denying it, not that I'm rooting against him.
I just think it's still premature to, like,
I think he would play in the playoffs.
I think, whether he get the starts for Pitt?
Oh, yeah.
If he's playing at this level.
Yeah, I think right now, I would go, Stuart Skinner.
He's played, he's won playoff rounds.
Now, she's had play of experience.
Yes, he played well against Edmonton and really.
against, you know, it was Dempo that got hurt.
Yeah.
By the way, Kenny Peggs, our buddy.
Yes.
The last got to go in, 100% votes.
Mariano Rivera.
Ah.
Baseball, okay.
I like it.
A hunch.
A hunch.
100%.
Rivera was a good player, man.
Yeah, I don't know.
Well, yeah.
Some people are wondering what's going on here with Bill Belichick.
Al's brother chiming in with his.
Well, what's his take on it?
Well, he's bringing up SpyGate Gate, Deflake Gate,
like the fact that he was involved in cheating scandals
and maybe they're holding that against them.
It's not a bad explanation, realistically.
Like that actually might be the explanation.
So some reporter is going to hold him to a standard all of a sudden because...
Now, was he ever fined or anything for SpyGate?
Yeah, they got hit.
They got hit for that.
I think there was one where practices where they were filming practice.
Yeah.
Now, deflakee would be Brady, right?
Does Brady not become a first ballot hall of famer?
Brady ain't taking a hit for that, man.
He shouldn't.
It's a PR move.
The thing is, I'm telling you, it's because it's a PR move.
Belichick was rude to people, and now the shine has come off of him
because he's gone on and not doing great in college,
and he's got the 24-year-old girlfriend who's a pain in the ass to people.
I think it's all vindictive.
Man, he's taking hits.
Belichick has really taken hits.
There's nothing to do with that guy's coaching ability and his coaching.
Yeah, as coaching resume screams first ballot Hall of Famer.
Screams it.
All right.
Confirm it, then I.
Scotty Schaeffler will win two plus majors this year.
I got to 100% confirm it, man.
Like two plus.
Tough to do, man.
Two is tough.
Two is tough.
You think about the U.S. Open at Chinacott?
He's never one of U.S. Open.
Dude, that's stinky little Corey Payvon won at Chinnock.
Yeah, that was 35 years ago.
It was just a thick cookie duster that was.
remember he hit a five one and it was like
215 yards.
Cory Pavin looked exactly like Ray Ferraro.
Yes, he did. Don't chirp that five wood,
man. That guy would hit a five wood from
188. It might have been less than
250. That shot was such a great shot. He would butter cut
a little five wood. So if stinky
little Corey Pavan can get it done. It has nothing
to do with a Sheplellan though. Scottie Shepleur
with a buttercut throwing darts, he cannot
lose at Shinnock. I want to put money
down at Scottie at Shinnock. I thought.
He'd win at Oakmont.
He did not win at Oakmont.
I thought he'd win, you know, another,
he hasn't won a U.S. Open's got him.
Pinehurst number two got him.
Conditions, and it was, I hear you, there's Corey Pavin.
What a stud.
Look at Corey Paven.
Remember that shot into 18 where he won?
That was, that won on the tournament.
What a shot.
He had those weird irons that had, like,
he had some weird stuff going on with his bullseye putter.
Yeah.
He was a player.
He was.
Well, that was right around when Zinger won is only major two, right?
It was around that time.
Pave and knock on up.
Yeah, but it was around the same time of...
Same era, yeah.
But I'm 100% confirming.
Two plus.
I'm confirmed.
Oh, man.
You guys just said he's the...
Yesterday.
Like him and Augusta, I feel like he's getting more Augusta.
Like, I feel like he's going to win a couple more masters.
Yeah.
So he's got two already.
He's going to be in the hunt.
Like, he is, his last...
Dude, look what he did at the British.
It's like, if he gets the right setting,
right kind of weather. Like if it just sets
up, I mean, kills everybody. I know
that. And I'm just trying to think of who can
compete. Like Macquarie can still compete with them.
Yes. Yeah. The Shambos still can,
especially at an open. Of course.
There's that top ten. Shafley's really falling off.
And then is there going to be a one off? John Rom.
And there's a, exactly. Is there a JJ
spawn? Probably. You know what I mean? There's
probably a JJ spawn. I don't know who
that is. But someone who has a,
you know, do I think there's, I don't know. I'm going to deny it.
I just
it's tough to say that.
I'll bet you $500 right now.
There's a two-pack.
You think there's a...
You want to do it right now?
I don't really want to vote.
I don't really want to bet against him.
I know, but you don't believe it, so put it there.
Okay, fine.
This is real.
This is real.
Lock it in.
I think there's...
He's going to knock off the Masters and the PGA, and this would be done in like three weeks.
How about this?
If he wins all four, it's an extra $1,500 on top of the five.
He's not winning off.
Dude, agree to that?
No, I'm not agreeing to that.
Is there a chance in your mind that he can...
No, I mean, Tiger never won four in a year.
Dude, the way this guy's playing, it's not out of the question.
He's been playing like this, though, for like five years.
Right?
This is just how he plays.
Thing is, so he'll end up second or third.
Exactly.
Like, you look at his last 16 starts.
I think he's won eight of them.
And he's top ten every single one.
It's like Jack, man.
He had 18 majors.
Yeah.
But you know how many times he's finished second in a major?
It's incredible.
It's insane.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Second.
Yes.
Like many times.
A lot.
A lot of times.
Dude, look up, Ardugi, look up how many times Jack finished second.
It's an astronomical number.
Right.
Wow.
Two plus, though.
It's tough.
It's tough.
I'm 100% confirming it.
All right.
Moving on here.
Confirm or denied Drake May winning a Super Bowl launches him into top three
quarterback in the league range.
He wins a Super Bowl. I think he
might win the MVP this year. That'll be MVP
Super Bowl, maybe Super Bowl MVP.
Top three, though? You think Drake May
is going to win the Super Bowl over Josh Allen and
Matthew Stafford? The MVP
this year? I mean, I think he's
to, I think the odds are still, he's the
favorite. It's either him or Stafford.
Well, then if he wins the Super Bowl.
It's Stafford the favorite? It's
not Alan, because Alan just, he kind of
sputtered coming home. But you said, what's the
question again? If he wins a Super Bowl,
here, does he launch into top three?
In other words, knocking out,
you know, Joe Burrow or
knocking out Lamar or maybe, yes.
I'm going to add something to it, though.
It'll be temporary. It'll be like,
you know. For a month.
You're the season starts next year and you go,
Joe Burroughs. Yeah, you're the flavor of the day.
I'm not saying no. I say, I'm denying it.
I'm not knocking Mahomes out or
Allen out. Exactly.
Like Lamar had a down-year borough.
You know, he gets hurt a lot.
Like, I love, you know, they're better quarterback.
Exactly.
Could you see one of those guys having a rebound?
I had an argument today because Vasilevsky's playing great.
8-0 in January.
They're like, oh, is he, you know, basically, is he still one of the best in the world?
I'm like, it never changed.
The talent doesn't change.
He just got hurt and he had a couple down years.
Down years, like, so that's what I'm saying.
May is not knocking off Mahomes for me or any of the guys that you believe are more talented than him.
at this juncture.
He might have played better than them.
What a start, though, man.
What a start to his career.
It's a great start, but I just don't give him top three status right now.
No, I agree with you.
But what a start to his career?
Right.
Like to just launch into Super Bowl, competing for MVP's.
He's got a great coach.
He's a lucky.
He does.
And he runs, like he takes on contact.
He's a good player, man.
I just got to update something else, brother.
maybe he read this
or maybe he's our own like Grock
on Twitter
Grock was asked
why didn't Belichick get in and they're citing
scandals as in
spy gate and deflategate as factors
that would heavily be
so I don't know if Al's brother
just copy and pasted that
is making stuff up
but that's what the internet is going to
I think it's ridiculous
Al's brother Schaefter
it might be the
reason though
like whether you agree with
that or not. Yeah, but then
who else does that apply to? Like, does Brady
get hit? Yeah. Because Brady was
in on Deflakegate. Like, SpyGate
was not Brady. That's on Belichick.
That's on Bill.
Pretty much alone on that. I think old
Billy Boy was in the crowd with binoculars
or somebody was. Yeah, there was some weird
stuff going on. They have, like, hidden cameras, and they've had
some things. They were doing some sneaky
stuff. I just, I don't know.
You can't...
Okay, so what happened? What happened
with it? Was it the Astros? With the
The banging on the...
Exactly.
There you go.
Like, does Al-TUve not get in?
Right, the trash cans.
Yeah.
Everybody's just...
That's it.
Good question.
I don't know.
I just find that hard.
With time, usually it cools down.
It has cooled down.
But come Hall of Fame time,
is it going to cool down?
Is Altuva...
Like, Altuva is clearly a Hall of Famer.
Yeah.
Clearly.
I don't know anyone else.
Like, I don't think Springer's a Hall of Famer.
I don't think Bregman is.
They're close.
Correa.
I don't think...
No, I hear it.
of a contraband.
Like AJ Hinch,
let's say he just continues
to be a really great manager.
Right.
There's your example of the Belichick role.
Wana World Series there.
They were in the playoffs every year,
ALCS every year.
He's in Detroit now really good.
What if he wins a World Series in Detroit?
Right.
Sorry,
not getting in because of...
What happened there?
Possibly.
I think there's a likability factor there,
though.
If Belichick was a media darling,
I think people would overlook it.
It changes a lot.
But the fact that he was,
quite sharp to a lot of people that
probably have the vote.
I think there's a disdain for him.
It definitely factors in.
Like the people that are voting,
they, you know, it's arbitrary in many ways.
You can make up kind of your own rules.
There's guidelines, but it's,
you're making a decision on somebody.
And if you don't like them, it's probably going to affect
the way you vote.
Agreed. Agreed.
We have to remove a motion, though.
You're supposed to, but you can't be objective.
Right? Like it's impossible.
It is you've interacted with them.
These are all football people who are on the board, you know.
All right.
Confirm or deny.
Last one.
One of the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, or Buffalo Sabres will miss the playoffs.
I'm going to confirm that.
I really am.
I think one of them is just going to fall off a map.
Who knows who it's going to be?
Name the teams again.
Montreal, Boston, Buffalo.
I'm confirming.
Yeah, I can confirm that.
Confirming.
They all have 63 points.
It's not like they've got 93 points.
I wouldn't be shocked if two fell out.
Oh, my word.
You think Detroit could plummet?
I think Detroit's too far gone.
Like Detroit's got a 10-point buffer.
It's possible.
Remember the leaves?
Here's the problem.
Tampa Bay was in last place in the first month of the season.
Remember how bad they were?
I kept telling you they're the best team on paper.
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
And they were, they are the best team on paper in the east.
They're not even close.
They are really, really, they won two nothing last night.
No problem.
Nassilowski was great.
I mean, you look at it.
They scored a power play goal with just a couple seconds left.
There was a one-nothing game.
And Utah played very well.
New York Rangers in last place.
But here's the thing that I'll say.
I could look at that for an hour straight.
You take from 55 all the way up to 63, including Buffalo in that third spot.
How many teams is that?
That's eight?
A lot of teams.
Yeah, well, and you got to include Pittsburgh and the Islanders on the other side.
So Pittsburgh and the island, like, this is going to be a roller coaster the rest of the season.
12 teams.
12 teams.
Yeah, it's going to be the best scoreboard watching two months.
That's what I kept telling.
Yesterday, I kept saying like, this is a down cycle right now.
For the leaves, yeah.
For the leaves.
If the leaves continue in the down cycle, then they're putting themselves in a tough spot.
But right now.
you need consistency.
It's points every night.
And your scoreboard watching,
and a five-pack winning in a row
or five-pack losing in a row puts you in peril.
And we're going to see this the rest of the season.
Now,
30 games.
Ottawa, the Leafs, both have two of the toughest schedules
the rest of the season.
And I'm talking quality of competition.
Yeah.
A lot of road games.
Road games, all of that.
But at the end of the day,
you control your own destiny, you've got to go on a run.
And it'll be interesting to see the teams that continue to go
and the teams that fall off, whether they don't get the goaltending,
there might be a massive injury that hurts an organization.
Who knows?
But I think we're, we might be talking last day of the season,
put somebody in the playoffs.
And it could be, we could be sitting here in Toronto going,
they need to win this game tonight and they need help.
They need another team to lose.
Yeah, well, that's...
That's a part of it, too.
It's not just what you do.
It's what the other team do.
That's what I'm saying.
If there's a team like Buffalo, Boston, they lose eight in a row.
It's like, man, they're done.
Right.
Like that's...
You know, they folded and another team's going to step in.
All right, there you go.
Confirm it than I.
Good stuff.
Well, if Peyton wins another Super Bowl and what does this bounty gate for him?
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
Well, Peyton, in my mind, would probably be a Hall of Fame coach.
Like, you said...
But if he wins another game, he wins another.
other Super Bowl, are people going to, you know, say you're not for a valid, I guess.
Yeah, that's very good, very valid.
It just like Bountygate was a real scandal.
He got suspended for a year.
Yes.
Like, they put huge money on the table to kill Brett Farv.
Yes.
But a huge money.
I remember.
Who's going to kill Brett Farv?
But that's, the thing is you start heading in down that, that gray area.
Yeah.
You know, it should be just, what did you do?
Not what, what, what you are?
I don't know.
That's where I went.
That was my famous.
It's a hall with some blocks in it.
Well, there's in this context where I'm like, not a, it's, you, what did they do on the
field?
That's what to make it away from it being an ignorant comment.
It's a hall with some plaques in there.
Even worse, with some plaques in there.
In there.
Not even in it.
I do.
In there.
I love that.
It's a hall with some plaques in there.
That was such an ignorant comment.
Ignoring.
But there are players like that are.
much, they're in flurry.
Yeah. Well, listen, unfortunately, there's
some bad people that play the sports.
And obviously there are extremes.
You know, there are extreme
examples where like, okay, that might
be different. But how they
treat people on a day-to-day basis
for me is not, should not
factor into whether or not you're in the Hall of Fame.
Right? Like, if you're a good coach, good player,
great, you were talking great, all-time
great to get in. Anyway,
