Starting point is 00:00:33 Fandul, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. All right, here we go overdrive, off and running. TSN 1050 on the TSN app, your home, smart speaker up on TSN4 and TSN5. Brian Hays, O'Dug, Jeff O'Neill, and Jonas Siegel in here. What have you got against TSN5? I love TSN5. I love it, but we generally have never been on TSN5. It is a new development.
Starting point is 00:00:57 As far as I know, this is a new year, new me. 2026, we're all over TSN5. PSN5 is his McDavid. He never wants to give it the respect it deserves. Because the nonsense that I heard before the show, Jonas, you can attest to this. He exposed himself as a voter fraud. And what that means is no matter what McDavid or McKinnon does, if the San Jose Sharks get into the playoffs, MacLan Celebrini gets your vote.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Absolutely. Blindly. He could be injured the rest of the year. But you understand. And I don't want to expose some. We're joking around. No, I know, but you said the other two, they can do whatever they want. If they get in, he gets my vote.
Starting point is 00:01:39 That is crazy. For starters, there's more context to it. I mean, you've got to put some respect on the guy's name. Did you see my boy Celebrini last night? I know you two think he stinks and shouldn't be on Canada and all that. That was kind of stuff you were saying. I do not think so. I've never said that.
Starting point is 00:01:53 I've been on the train. But you also, I hate it in the league where John Cooper, all the great years he's had, it just gets ignored. I mean, you've got to find something. else. You were sniffing and finding you got a great one but you're sniffing too much. Don't ignore the greatness of McKinnon and McDavid
Starting point is 00:02:10 but you know what it is? It's called what Jonas said, voter fatigue. It is, Jonas. You did say that. There is an element of voter fatigue and you looked yourself in the mirror first. I said that's... Doogie, are you the one that said voter fatigue? I think it was, Dougie. And I said I would not do that.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Great job, Dougie. Yes. So you guys will blindly vote McDavid or McKinnon, which not... Blindly. Well, they're worthy of... Did you see the goal? Using the word blindly. Okay. It's stupid. Hold on. All right. Obviously those two guys are putting
Starting point is 00:02:44 together remarkable campaigns. There's no disputing it. Of course they're in contention. Only one guy can get it. The goal he scored Celebrini to tie it last night. And set up the winner. And the winner, dude, that was like a... that was a Lemieux-Gresky type fake.
Starting point is 00:03:00 With a forward back there. Yes, but still, it's three on three. I get it. But you see him fake. That's the kind of thing you see in practice. Like this kid is feeling it. And that was a big win against a divisional rival. They're in the race, not just to make the wild card.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Like the Pacific is brutal. The way, I shouldn't say that. That's strong. Not all of it. Like Edmonton, Vegas, it haven't been great. Vegas, all they do is get loser points. That's why they're in the position they're in. they got a chance to make a little bit of noise.
Starting point is 00:03:32 And that's all I'm saying. If San Jose gets in, he ends up with like 125 points, and he beats anybody else by like 60 on his team. If you guys put him third, that's voter fraud. He's got to be third. Voter fraud. You would put him ahead. Yeah, but what if the other two monsters have 160 points each?
Starting point is 00:03:51 Okay, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I don't believe they will. I don't believe they will. They are clearly the two best players in the league. Clearly. By far. By far. Not by far. By far. Not by far. He gets out to line to hammer though. Not by far. That's not true. I have respect for the other guys. I have respect for Cal McCarar who's not by far behind those two guys.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Nikita Kutra of you watching him play. How about your boy Vasileski who you thought should retire last year? Vaselowski is destroying the league again. Guys have been unbelievable. You're telling me these two, how about Sid continues to roll, right? Quinn Hughes is still a pretty good player. Austin Matthews recently. Leon Dreis said, I can go on and on. There's other great players in the league. The one thing that all Jonas and his cronies are all horned up about is Moritz cider. And I'm like, he's been good. Dude, I get it.
Starting point is 00:04:40 But Kail McCar, you could just give him the Norris right now. You are not coming close and I don't care with your data page, what numbers you put together. Kail McCar is going to win the next five Norris trophies for fun. He's that good. And he's that much better than everyone else. I agree with you. Man, the hyperbole. I did find a stat, though, that...
Starting point is 00:05:02 Oh, boy. What is this one? Hit me with it. I can't wait. This is five on five points. Where do you think McDavid ranks? Ninth. Seventh.
Starting point is 00:05:14 But... Power play merchant. But he's amazing on the power play merchant. How much steak do you put in that? Like, if that's what bugs me about all this stuff, why can't you just look at him and say he's the best player? I'm saying that. He is the best point.
Starting point is 00:05:28 You nerds and you're on too, you start deep diving into these dumb things. Can't you just use the eye test and say he's the best player? He's the best player. I have said that. I voted him number one. The TSN top 50 lists every single year. He's the best player. I'm not sitting here saying he's not the best player.
Starting point is 00:05:48 You're just tired of. No. What you guys are losing sight of, what you guys are losing sight of is that there is a narrative that gets baked into the vote. Yours is a narrative of what you're doing. But it's not. It's not like. Celebrini is third in points.
Starting point is 00:06:05 I know. And he plays for San Jose. Third and five on five points. Exactly. And the sharks are, they have been the worst team in the league for the last three or four years. Like absolutely horrendous. And he is basically single-handedly dragging them to the playoffs right now.
Starting point is 00:06:21 That is worth something. Obviously, McKinnon is a beast. Look what you just said about his teammate, though. Undisputed best defenseman in the league. That's who he gets to play with. You know who is the undisputed best second-line center in the league? Leon Dreisettle. Who the hell Celebrini play with?
Starting point is 00:06:37 Will Smith? Good player. Really good player. Who's your boy in defense? John Klingberg? He's passing pucks to John Klingberg. Timmy Lills. And Timothy Lilligrin.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And, you know, it's just, again, like this is, and you mentioned a Cooper, probably the best coach in the league. He doesn't win it every single year. I don't think he's ever won it. again, is crazy. Ridicrous. Obviously should, but this is the point is narratives, drive it, who's the new guy? Wow, I didn't see this coming.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Everyone knew McKinnon and McDavid would be great. Everyone knew they'd be great. I didn't know Celebrini would be this great. I didn't know the sharks could be in contention to make the playoffs. You're kind of arguing against yourself, though, aren't you? How so? Because you're saying Cooper has never won it and should win it, and it's crazy, hasn't won it.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And how he didn't win it when they won 62 games or whatever that year? It was absurd. Who would have won it that year? Did. Was it like a torterella or something like that? I don't recall. Don't us look at it. Anyway, listen, McDavid's the best player in the world.
Starting point is 00:07:35 McKinnon is right there with him. That is 1A, 1B. Two things about it, and then we can move on. Can he keep it going, going to the Olympics, and carrying the team on his back? It's going to be a big test for the kid, 19 years old. And what is the separation going to be? Sorry, I just saw the odds.
Starting point is 00:07:56 and I'm finding it hard to believe, but Celebrini has jumped ahead of McDavid on Fandau. Is that true? That's what it says on the screen. McDavid. McKinnon is minus 340. Celebrini is plus 500. McDavid's plus 600. That's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Well, what are you, are you adjusting? That's your fault. Yeah. I'm just, I'm saying what I'm saying. You think I am manipulating the lines. Ahead of McDavid. And Kucherov starting to sniff around a little bit. What does the separation have to be between the big boys?
Starting point is 00:08:25 like, what is, like, if McDavid has 150 and this guy Celebrini's got 128, you're still going Celebrini? I don't. I mean, listen, there's 40 games left. Let's see what happens by the end of the year. We'll see what happens with the Oilers, the sharks, the avalanche, there's a lot of hockey left to be played.
Starting point is 00:08:42 So it's way too difficult to truly predict, but he's made a big statement. If it's not McDavid, it's going to be McKinnett. What's the point of the vote? Like, why does anyone get a vote? What do you mean? Well, if it's just two guys, there's 40 guys. games will have to be played. We've already determined only two guys can win.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Yeah, basically. That's it. Okay, so it's done then. Pack up shop. There you go. It's over. It's either McKinnon or McDavid. No one else can win. I do believe that he has a shot, but there has a lot of good things have to happen. And last night, you could argue you want to know something. If it's not going to be McKinnon, you could argue it should be McCar. Sure. He's been outstanding. Best team in the league. Best events. Many Jerry's McCart. McCarr wins at least one heart trophy in his career.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Oh, that's a great question. Well, how's he going to do it when he's having a great year and you guys are both like, I'm sorry, McDavid and McKinnett exist, so he can't possibly beat him. We're not talking like that exists. Many Jerry McCar, one heart. 25%. That's really high.
Starting point is 00:09:39 5%. A heart? Do you know the last time? Chris Pronger? Yeah, in like 2000. 99 or something, 2000. Yeah, it's been a long time. I'm giving it 75% that he wins a heart.
Starting point is 00:09:51 75%. So who's he going to beat, though? That's the thing. There's just going to be a year where he's going to rip home 35 goals. That was last year. You know, he had that last year. Well, it's going to be another one. There's going to be another one where he's just so good where it's like that guy's the heart trophy winner.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I'm going 75 on my car winning a heart. I think you guys' percentages are so bad and so low. Okay. What's your percentages that Jerry Jones retires with the most Super Bowls won? Zero. Zero percent. Zero. You see that?
Starting point is 00:10:23 He said today. goal in life is to retire as the owner. Who retires as an owner? Doesn't that mean the team? What do you say, Doogie? Oh, we have the club. Sorry, I thought you wanted to jump in there with a tank. All right, let's play it.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Let's hear from here. Why would I even say it? Go ahead, Doogie. Well played. My goal is to retire as the owner that won the most Super Bowls. That's my goal. To be retired in the NFL. as the owner that won the most Super Bowls.
Starting point is 00:11:00 We've got three. How many more would I have to go as a single owner? Bob's got how many? Six. So I've got work to do. Got work to do. I got work to do, but at least I'm up to the second rung in the latter.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Okay, so. That is an insane comment. And you know what's crazy when everyone in the room, you could feel they were looking at them. Like, have you lost your mind? Yeah. Like, they need, he's basically saying. I thought somebody was going to say,
Starting point is 00:11:26 you know how old you are? Yes, exactly. And owners don't retire. He's kind of indicating that. It's a morbid thing to say. But he's not going to retire as owner. You know, we all kind of know what that means. But there is negative infinity percent chance.
Starting point is 00:11:42 This guy wins four more Super Bowls. No. Like, I don't think they'll win one. Like, I don't think. Not with Jerry Jones running it. They have zero percent chance of winning one, let alone four. Totally. Your damn act.
Starting point is 00:11:55 My goal. What a way to start that. Let's hear that one more time because just picture yourself in the room. Close your eyes. You cover the team for the athletic down in Dallas. And you've got to listen to this guy. After missing the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:12:10 after missing the playoffs, you've got to hear him say this. My goal and life is to retire as the owner that won the most Super Bowls. Okay. I think, you know, what I think. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:12:30 It's just a crazy comment. What he tries to do is they miss the playoffs, and he just tries to throw something out there as a distraction, so nobody talks about it. So he just, like, make that stupid statement, so it's like nobody's talking about us not being in the playoffs again. I truly believe he does that. Possibly.
Starting point is 00:12:46 He's a showman. I don't think winning the Super Bowl is the highest priority for him. It's about getting the Jerry Jones brand out there, making sure the valuation of the Cowboys is the highest of any team in the world, which it is. Jerry Jones brand is the Cowboys. They're already out there with or without him. He has no influence on that.
Starting point is 00:13:04 He thinks he does, though. That's the point. He thinks, like, it is his show. He's the only, he is more synonymous with that team than any player. Well, do you know how crazy it is? Like, if you're a reporter for that team, like, he's just there outside the dressing room doing crumbs after the game. You get an exclusive with him.
Starting point is 00:13:21 If you pull your phone out on the street and say, I got a few questions for you, he'd sit and talk to you. I think, Jeff. Four more. Super Bowls, that's what he wants. It's just throw something out there and now people are talking about the Cowboys. I don't know that. Okay, more likely to happen.
Starting point is 00:13:36 The Cowboys win one Super Bowl in the next decade or someone not named McDavid or McKinnon win the heart this year. The Cowboys. The Cowboys. Wow. You guys have lost your mind. You have more faith that Cowboys will win a Super Bowl than Celebrini wins the heart or McCar or Kuturov wins the heart.
Starting point is 00:14:01 With 40 games left to go? Jerry might retire in a few years. I'm going to ask the quiz master his thoughts because he's like, he studies the stuff by the numbers, I test. If he agrees, then you've got to admit you're wrong. It's a tough take to have. It really is. Yeah. It's a tough take.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Anti-McDavid is tough. It's not about anti-McDavid. It's about understanding history. What about anti-McDavid and McKinnon? And McKinnon. Why can't it be about propping up the other guy? I'm an Uber positive guy. when it comes to
Starting point is 00:14:32 Salabrini's chances. Your boy McCar, right? You love McCar. I do. Except when it comes to the hard trophy. I really, yeah. Can't do it.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Can't do it. Won't do it. It's hard because McKinnon is so good. Yes, he is. Phenomenal. And they've got Ottawa at home tonight. Ottawa lost again in Utah last night. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Like that in Colorado's coming home. They're kind of pissed. They lost a couple games. They never do that. Brady Kach is starting to take some heat in Ottawa, too. He's not doing much. Like not. Not really putting up numbers, physical.
Starting point is 00:15:05 But it's not good in Ottawa right now. Well, they needed some points last night, but... They need goaltending. And that wasn't the issue necessarily last night, but their goaltending is killing them. Killing them. Yeah, and Allmark is not around. That is the new goaltender graveyard, that place.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Yeah. Where do you think is more pressure tonight, Ottawa or Winnipeg, who is home to Edmond? Edmonton. It's got to be Winnipeg. It would be 11 in a row? Yes. Like you've lost 10 in a row.
Starting point is 00:15:34 You're dead last in the league. You're at home. It's, McDavid's in town. And he's like on another plan. And he is crushing everybody right now. Dude, I'm afraid of what McDavid's going to do in that barn,
Starting point is 00:15:44 our second hometown. Yeah, I know. And I'm afraid what Colorado's going to do to Ottawa after a back-to-back. I think it's more likely Ottawa gets pumped tonight, though, than Winnipeg. I think Winnipeg will show up. They both could get pumped tonight. It's possible.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Like, Edmonton has, I think they're 14-1-1 in their last 16, something like that. Pretty good. Trouble. I have another question. Have you ever heard of a goalie getting pulled with seven minutes left in a game? That's over? I used to do it when he first came on the scene as a coach.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Are you talking about like a six-on-five center? I'm talking about the Bittington. I thought that's what you meant. Yeah, Binnington and Hoffer last time. The game is over. Yeah. Why would they even... It was just a mercy polling where he's like, I can't watch this anymore.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I've got to get this guy out. Really awkward scene, though. There's some weird stuff going on in the NHL. Over was in the shower, by the way. He wanted no part of it. So they're in Chicago. They're getting pumped. St. Louis is not in a good place.
Starting point is 00:16:43 It's one of the unique buildings in the league where the goalie's not on the bench. So look at Hoffrey. He's like, please don't look at me. He looks like he's a kid that didn't do the assignment and the teacher's calling some kids up to the front of the class. Is he peeking around the corner? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:57 I would love it if he just put his helmet. on to make it look like he had no gear on actually. He was just about to get in the shower. But that is so unfair to him too. He's probably thinking, he's got to be nuts. Games over. I'm not going in. And I think that's what Bennington was thinking. Like, it's not fair to this. Don't put Hoffer in there. Like, we're getting pumped. Yes, I'm getting pumped. Are you nuts?
Starting point is 00:17:19 It's not, don't put that guy in there. What do you doing, Jim Montgomery? It was crazy about the blues. When they went on that run at the end of last year and took it into that first round against Winnipeg. I thought they were on the cusp of like some greatness with that young group, that core. And it was just like totally gone out the window. Yeah, they've had a dreadful season. Monty, like, was brought in there, and it seems like they got all the pieces to the puzzle, and it's kind of been a mess this year.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Well, and they're going to, I got to think at some point they're going to start making deals. You know, that's Armstrong is always saying that. Now it's time to listen. It's time to act. The thing is, the West is still wide open. You know, like if you look at it, again, it's the wildcard teams are L.A. and San Jose. So if you're St. Louis, you're four points out of a wildcard spot. That's, that's like, you know, you're seven, eight games away from maybe being right there.
Starting point is 00:18:10 But who has the balls to say, my team, I don't care how close the standings are, we stink. Well, who has the- Doug Armstrong. I think he is definitely one of them. He should. He's not going to bluff anybody and say, we want to go get or do this or do that when I actually think my team's think. I think Calgary should. I think Calgary should just rip the Band-Aid off and make the trades.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Move off guys. Trade Coleman. Try to trade Cadry. Anderson, you're going to move. Anderson's leaving, I think, at the end of the year. So you're going to have to trade them. You know, it's, Calgary's been a,
Starting point is 00:18:41 they had a really tough start and they battled back, but they are what they are. They're not good enough. They're building towards the new rank. And I think that's a scenario where you move off, guys. And then you've got teams that are, you know, Chicago's young and San Jose's young, and they're trying to get in.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Utah's a new market. They're not going to, that. Nashville will try to get it. Nashville will probably try to get in because they made all these commitments. So it's the three Canadian teams, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg. Winnipeg's an interesting one. Who do you trade? You're not moving off your core pieces. It's going to be Helibuck and Schifley and Connor and Morrissey, Volardi. Like that's going to be your Pionk. Those guys are staying. They need to upgrade. They need a second line, man. How do you find that? And they're not exactly keeping it out of their own cage either.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Well, Hallibuck has had a really, he's come back to Earth. Like his numbers, and you can't ask him to be the greatest player in the league every night. Like he was last year when he won the heart. Yes. I can't believe he won the heart. He deserved to. Look at what's going on right now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:41 He was phenomenal last year. Yeah, he beat your boy, Kail McCarr. And McKinnon. And McKinnon. And McKinnon. And McDavid. That's unbelievable. Unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:19:51 I did not vote him. Can't believe it. Can't believe it. It should have been just McDavid's award. award every single year. They should just rename it the McDavid. They should. They might.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Pretty good. He's never won one of the Canadian National Player of the Year Awards. What is it? The new Star one. I don't know what they call it. The Northern Star. The Northern Star, yeah. He's never won that before.
Starting point is 00:20:10 That's tough. Never? Never won it. Wow. You believe that, Jonas? I cannot. As the Celebrity, you're the co-owners with the fan club. Yeah, you guys, you're front runners, man.
Starting point is 00:20:25 I'm always looking for the next wave. I'm progressive. see greatness and we recognize it. Yeah, you sure do. All right, James Duffy coming up. J.D.O.B. in studio, we'll get the insiders, Dregs. Pierre, will join us today. Jonas, you have a list for us, a leaf-related list, right? So we'll get to that around 5.30. Leafs in Philly tonight. We'll tee that up on TSN. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and up on TSN4. Let's face it, everyone can use a little help in better understanding their technology.

All right, overdrive continues, powered by Fanduel, bringing you more ways to play your game your way. James Duffey, supposed to be in here. J.D. is supposed to be in here. It's very disappointing some of the stories we heard about him in Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Very disappointing. And we want to get him to kind of set the record straight. When he grabbed our colleague and pulled her in front of him to protect his own life and yelled out, you have to go first, that's unacceptable. That is very disappointing. There he is. J.D. Come on in.
Starting point is 00:22:26 We're just talking about you having someone else sacrificed their lives. I'm sure. For the betterment of your survival. Good world juniors for me. I apparently didn't go to the gym, used a female producer as a human shield, and then pulled a move where I let the guy drive the rental car back because I wanted to get into the lounge faster,
Starting point is 00:22:51 according to the... You know, he talked a lot about winning a Canadian Screen Award. that was kind of the theme of the, he kept texting me every night going, Jimmy, I think I got one hand on the can of the screen award. And I said the only screen award he will ever win is for best fictional program, Overdrive.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yeah. Because of the lies that are told. So what, did you just try to keep me interested in the tournament when you said if you keep going, there's a chance? Yeah, there was no shot. He's got a shot. I think you got a shot. I told me he had a shot, but he's, it kind of
Starting point is 00:23:26 went down the hill when Canada lost in the semis because you don't win screen awards for bronze medal games. Just the reality. And I didn't text you guys. I thought you'd show up for the gold. I thought you'd say, you know what? I'm already here. I'm in the building. Are you high, dude? I'm not...
Starting point is 00:23:40 We had a legit discussion of whether he was going to stay around for the bronze. I know. This was a direct quote in front of the crew. I don't do bronze. That should be a T-shirt. I've never done it before. I didn't think it was As soon as they're not in contention for the gold, I thought I went home.
Starting point is 00:23:58 At some point, he said, this is such a grind. I said, you've done five games. The crew's done 19. Yeah. Can I straighten out, like, some of the lies that were told, like, so my friends and family members. Just admit the one thing when you shielded yourself. With Megan, that's disappointing, because Megan's the queen of overdrive. You were afraid, and you said, I can't go like this, you're going first.
Starting point is 00:24:20 This is what I did. I buried my head in my lap like they teased. teach you on the planes. I went into the crash position. By the way, you'll snap your neck if you went head on with the car so fast. It probably wasn't the smartest move in retrospect, but that was what my instinct. I cowardly buried my head in my own lap. Scary Ceno, legit scary Cesar. And as soon as I told him that I did that, I knew that he would morph it into me using Megan Redwood as a human shield.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Also, I suggested on the car ride to the airport, this is what we do with the Masters. The rent-a-car in Minnesota is not close. It's not like a walk across the street, like in Ottawa or something. So this is what we do with the Masters. You drop all the luggage off. A couple guys stay with the luggage. The other guy brings back the rent-a-car, so he doesn't have to lug suitcase into the shuttle. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:25:13 So I suggest, hey, guys, let's do it this way. O. and me can wait with the luggage. or, oh, if you want to come be Frankie, I don't mind staying with the luggage. No problem. Great idea, Frankie says. We pull all the luggage out. I'm pulling the luggage in. I find a spot inside the door.
Starting point is 00:25:28 I go back, get more luggage. I'm like, oh, just to the left. I got the luggage by the left. So I go out, get the last one. I come back. I look. He is gone. Right to check in.
Starting point is 00:25:40 We had the conversation yesterday. How many grown men does it take to stand by luggage? Also, wait, wait, wait. How much luggage do you guys have? It's a foxhole thing. It's a foxhole thing. It's a foxhole moment. It's driving off in the cart and you're like, you find your own ball. It's kind of a scenario like that. Like, how many guys do you need to search for the ball? There's already James is there helping.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Why do you guys have so much? You're in the weeds. Well, because we're there's a lot of suits. Like, what do you wear one suit the whole time? One suitcase. Dale Hunter that thing. One suit. How many suitcases do you guys bring? Well, I'm a two suitcase guy on that trip because I have a garment bag that puts my suits and then all my other stuff. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Sweatpants. My underwear finally made it back. It arrived. Yeah. I do want to say, though, despite the fact he slanders me on every one of these programs, he did a fine job at the World Juniors A, and he was in the gym pretty religiously. He's a bit of a grunter when he works out. You know, one of the, ah!
Starting point is 00:26:39 Yeah. Like one of those guys, so it's kind of awkward and everybody else is in there quietly. Hate those guys. Worked out hard. Although, I don't know if the last couple days I have to share this. I couldn't sleep like the last night, I think after Canada lost. So I got up at 6.30, went to the gym. There was nobody there.
Starting point is 00:26:56 The hotel was half empty now. So from 6.30 to 8, I worked out hard. I went outside, and this guy is sitting in his track suit at the cafe, as he always is, Mr. Cafe guy. And I go, ah, not going to the gym today? He goes, yeah, I just got out of there. I'm like, I was in there for 90 minutes by myself. You were not in there.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Blately lying. The other thing about this guy, he's Norm from Cheers at the hotel, partly because he only works at Canada Games. He is either in the lobby or at the cafe bar all day. Every time I come down to the lobby, he's there. So when he checks out, it's like the guy behind the desk, who I knew from Adam, maybe I asked him for a pen once or something, he's like, Fred, awesome.
Starting point is 00:27:43 Oh, Jeff, what a time we had. Look me up next time you're in town. Ethel at the bar. Goodbye, I'll miss you. It's unbelievable. The entire staff was like family to him by the time he left. What a setup.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Two weeks, six games, right in your island. I was moving and shaken talking about hockey ideas for Hockey Canada on the way home, Jimmy. Everyone okay in Hockey Canada? What's your sense on that, James? He would probably crap his pants when he found out who I was sitting there. Oh, we're sitting down, like the head of Hockey Canada and him in the front row.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And I'm like, first of all, he has no idea who she is. That's my first guess. Second of all, he's got the headphones in, like, don't talk to me. And then halfway through the flight, suddenly their best friends figuring out. I actually took a video, which I should have posted. I just sent it to Frankie, and I said, Hockey Canada is solved now because the two greatest minds in the world
Starting point is 00:28:35 are right here figuring it all out. Oh, yeah. I mean, listen, at least they got bronze in the end, right? Like, you take some solves and that? What do you really think of the bronze, Jimmy? Do you think it's like, hey, it's good they got a medal? No, it sounds hokey, but I actually I do think exactly what
Starting point is 00:28:51 Garden McDougal was telling him before the game, we round that clip, and I do think that, look it, it's easy for you to, you've won a gold, so it's different. You obviously want to win a goal, but I do think a bronze, if you don't win anything in your NHL career, if you never get to play in the world championships, at least you got, it's a lot better than fourth.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Oh, you're on one of those teams that didn't win anything. I think it means something. I would say, though, it was a, I much preferred, this team was a disaster in their own for sure, but they were way more watchable than, especially last year's team that scored 13 goals. That was an entertaining hockey team.
Starting point is 00:29:26 It was a lot of fun. It was, they had a lot of fun games. And yeah, like the gold medal game was great. It was awesome hockey the entire tournament, as it always is. So, disappointing. How were the Leafs kind of revered in Minnesota? You're talking to other executives, scouts, coaches. You haven't told us about that.
Starting point is 00:29:45 In comments. In tough. Because the position they put themselves in and their schedule in the second half of the season. They're not going to be spending a lot of time at the Scotia. But they've been awful on the road. They've got to play 500 or better on the road the rest of the way. I have a theory. I was going to share it on the air tonight, but maybe now. Mark Masters, one of the greatest hockey reporters out there. By the way, the hardest working guy out there. Mailing it in tonight. Oh, not in there.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Claire Hannah's out there. He and him work the same hours, and I'm doing the game. I don't think he works. He literally works. He works 20 hours a day, Masters. You got to see this guy. Oh, I've seen it. 8 in the morning.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Jonas is there with him all the time. Masters is grilling the Leafs all year long. He's there every day. Maybe it wears on them. They're not playing very well. Masters leaves. Red hot. Just on fire.
Starting point is 00:30:39 So is there anyone under more pressure tonight? Oh, no, he's not there. He's not there. It's clear. Claiming it in. Hannah is I was going to say if he comes back and they
Starting point is 00:30:49 start, you know, it's one thing for the panel, but he's in the room every day. Right. So I think there's a lot of heat on Masters whenever he's back next Tuesday or whatever it is. I bet they forced him not to go. That's my guess. Yeah, he would want to go to Philly. He refuses time off. I'm like, don't, aren't you going to take some? No. Just, uh, whether
Starting point is 00:31:05 work. We should get to the bottom of that. I never saw him not in a suit the entire 12 days. Besides being on air, I never saw him not in a track suit. Right. But I never saw The master's not in a suit. Yeah, I've never seen him in anything but a suit. He goes on the airplane in this suit.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Yeah, like he wears a gene combo with a suit jacket and a zip up and like a tort look. What's the deal with that, Jonas? I don't know. I don't think he brings, like, sweatpants because he stays at work the whole day. Like, literally, if he was in Philly today, he would go to the ring for the morning skate, stay there the entire day, stay after the game, and then leave it like 12. The poor guy, I got to say this on air. He's a hard worker. He actually got sold out.
Starting point is 00:31:45 by our crew won. I think it was Gold Medal Day or maybe the semifinals because he did an interview with the kid. No, it's a quarterfinal day. He did an interview with a kid from Slovakia. And I guess the kid sort of guaranteed they were going to beat Canada. But it was over like a 30
Starting point is 00:32:01 second bid of three different questions. And so when they ran the clip on our show, it was Masters going, it was either the beginning or the end. And Masters goes, So do you think you're going to beat Canada? And the guy's like, yeah, you know, I hope we have a good chance.
Starting point is 00:32:19 And Master goes, so you're guaranteeing it? And the guy goes, oh, no, maybe. And that's what we ran. And me and Frankie had no choice but to just go, well, hold on a second. That wasn't a guarantee. Because Masters had already tweeted, Slovakian guarantees win or whatever. So poor Mark, I see him in the bar after.
Starting point is 00:32:36 They just ran the wrong clip. Like the kid clearly did say at a different point in the interview, we are going to beat Canada. We are winning tonight. But we ran the part where he's on. and Han and Masters is like, so you're guarantee it? Good for him, though. Just Corrella and the 18-year-olds.
Starting point is 00:32:51 He's the best. Get right on top of them. Masters is the best. Well, they're in Philly tonight, and Hildeby's going to start, so you got your answer, Jonas, right? Which I guess that probably means Wall will go Saturday against Vancouver, and then they'll split Colorado, Utah, Monday, Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:33:05 But Philly... I don't understand that, though. Philly's the points you really need. Yeah, especially considering, like, Montreal one again last night. Tampa, Montreal, Detroit have a pretty significant separation between the leaves, Florida, Buffalo. Like as of now, the least would play themselves back into a wildcard race, not a divisional spot. That's the one, the other thing that happened while we were away, two things that happened.
Starting point is 00:33:25 The Leafs turned it around and there's real separation. Because I thought when we left or mid-December, it felt like maybe Tampa was in first, but like everybody else was within three points. Yeah. Yeah. Tampa doesn't lose, like Tampa and Montreal are like real heaters right now. And Detroit, the same thing. They play more games than anyone else.
Starting point is 00:33:46 But, you know, and again, it's subject to change. There's still a lot of season left. But as of now, I think you're right. Like, Philly's a team you're legitimately competing against because you're chasing a wild card spot. Why two points are as important as two points, though? Well, and you're going to hate this. Here comes a stupid that.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Watch this. Go ahead. Ask Jonah. This is going to sound stupid, but he has started the last four. Joseph Wall, you mean? Yes. Yes. Now, you're going to say, Glenn.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Hall just started 500 in a row. 502 games in a row. Why can't Wall do that? Aren't we at the point? But aren't we at the point their save percentages are almost equal? Are you at a point as a Lee fan where you're comfortable with either one, kind of?
Starting point is 00:34:27 Yes, I mean, I'd be more comfortable with Wall. I think a little bit deceptive because Wall got pulled in one of those games, I believe. Didn't Hill be going? Yeah. But Wall is a more established NHO World's... You'd rather have him in there, but he'll be... But Hilda B has done.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Hilda be his softened the blow of Stollars and his absence. Like Stollars, I don't know when he's going to return. Tannab, I don't know when he's going to return. Is this season in jeopardy? It's got to be. I don't know that. I don't think that yet, but like he hasn't played since November 11th, I think. And it was day to day on November 11th.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Yeah, and we don't know what the injury is. Like, he's clearly not playing for the Olympics. I'm not sure they know. I think they got a better idea of TANV, I would assume, like what his story is if he's going to have surgery. you know, what could happen with him. That seems, you know, more ominous, so to speak, in terms of, like, having a better read on what could happen with him
Starting point is 00:35:20 and if he's going to return. Stollars, I'm not sure they know. He's skating at least. Exactly. Like, if he's skating on his own, then he's back on the ice. But Stolars and Tanev, like, those are two big losses. That's your number one goalie coming into the season. Yes, a tandem. And arguably, you're number one defenseman.
Starting point is 00:35:38 And on top of it, a lot of road games, and you're chasing a point. playoff spot. Like it's a very challenging position, the least around. It's what makes this run impressive, though, because Willie's been out for most of it too, right? And no Tenev and, you know, no McCabe right now. Like I said, it's an impressive run, but
Starting point is 00:35:54 I think the question we're going to have answered in the next two weeks is, is it a blip? Like, is this, are they going to now lose, you know, five of the next seven? They do that. They're screwed. There's six blips a year with most teams, right? So is this a blip, or is this a trend where it's, you know, you
Starting point is 00:36:11 obviously they're not going to get 12 points out of every 14 available, but if you can get 9 or 10 for the next 3, 7 game cycles or whatever, then you're back in things. Yeah, they've played their cards for losing four in a row or something like. They can't do it. Like you're going to lose games, clearly, but you can't go into a slump. If they do that, they lose 8 of 10, it's over. It's done.
Starting point is 00:36:31 They've played that card. They've got to stay consistent. Another thing that happened while you're away is Winnipeg is not the worst team in the league. I haven't aware of that. We did, like, still pay attention. attention to hockey. No, I know, but I'm just saying. I like pretending.
Starting point is 00:36:45 Yeah, there's been a lot going on up here. You guys are unaware of. Winnipeg's terrible. Yeah. And McDavid's red hot. Yes. Right? Go ahead, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:36:53 I know you want to jump in. Well, did you hear about the Salabrini take this guy's been pushing? What now? Salabrini for the heart. No, me. Celebrity for the heart. Absolutely. Are you still, how many more times have you mentioned how I, uh...
Starting point is 00:37:06 You and him. Yes. You know, I, meanwhile, I don't like your, producers, as soon as you were slandering me about the whole me saying, getting McDavid going, but it was only, you were the only person on the quiz that
Starting point is 00:37:21 said that McKinnett had passed McDavid. I said them the sound. I went and got the archivist to find the sound, sent it to him, keyly listened to the program, and all you did was not play the sound and triple down on the fact that it was me. That is gutless. On my behalf, too, I should have had your back. I should
Starting point is 00:37:37 add your back, because you've completely spun the narrative. that you and I, Duffy and Hayes, think McDavid's retired. Maybe we should embrace it now and just say we're the ones, like if he wins the heart or whatever, we did it. Already, and he can take the wheelchair in motion.
Starting point is 00:37:53 At the beginning of the year, he went on record and said he's not going to score 50 goals. No, I didn't say that. Yeah, you did. I'll get the clip. Go ahead and get that. He'll never score 50 again. He'll never get 150 points or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:38:06 I did say that. And this is the one King Daddy Topper. You said he's done. winning hearts. Probably, I said he's probably done. I was bold. It is, but let me again, every month I got to reset the record straight here. That was not a shot from the hip. That was history. Saying that at some point, Sid stopped winning hearts, Ovi stopped winning, Gretzky stopped winning. Maybe you should have said it that way at some point is going to happen
Starting point is 00:38:30 and not say it's happening right now. I did though. I said, you're in the year 11. I said I'm not sure he went to another way. I'm still not convinced he will, though. Again, McKinnon could win it. Celebrini could win it. I'll ask you now, over under 1.5. Should it be 1.5 or 0.5? 1.5 hearts? Yeah. 1.5, I'm under.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Over. Over. Under. I like your Celebrini case if the sharks make the playoffs. That's my point, though. That was my whole thing was if he, if he drags them in, 130 points. He's got 60 more points than anyone else on his team. The narrative is right there. Jonas would put McDavid on the ballot and McKinnon.
Starting point is 00:39:10 within, like, I don't think he has to win the scoring race, but he's not going to. If he's within, he's got to be within like five points or something. I think it's, I think it's like 15. Okay. I think 15 points. Go look at Taylor. McDavid is too good. McKinnon's too good.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Sorry. Yes, they're great players. There's like a line of demarcings. They're great players. And when Taylor Hall won and Corey Perry won, guess who was playing? Crosby and Ovechkin. McDavid. Yeah, why didn't they win that year? They were so much better. Yeah. I didn't vote.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Why didn't McDavid win it last year? He was still the best player, wasn't he? In the year before that? Yeah, I can't expect. You don't win it every single year. It's tough to win a heart. Only one gets announced. Like, that was my point. It's not that he won't be nominated ever again.
Starting point is 00:39:53 It's very difficult to win. What you're saying, Joan, is the same thing. I go in with this Canada's top athlete award, whatever we call it now, the Northern Star Award. And every year, I kind of perk up and say, guys, if McDavid never wins one of these things, like we're going to look like, idiots and it's always, you know, there's a hammer thrower or something.
Starting point is 00:40:14 I'm not saying that. There's been good, worthy winners. I mean, Shea won the last two years. She had to win. But I think there was a point three years ago where McDavid, you can make a really valid thing. And I can't remember who won it, but. Probably an Olympian or something. That was the year I was like, and again, you know, Summer Macintosh, all these, they're all valid winners, but I do not like the idea of McDavid going through his career
Starting point is 00:40:38 and not winning Canada's best athlete award. It's not possible. But it is possible. It is possible. Because, again, he's in year 11 and he hasn't won it. But that was my point. Who won the Northern Star of the year he got 164 points? I'd have to look.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Jonas, check it out. It might have been Shea. But I would say... Goldus has won it twice. Jay Otis Alex Adams won it twice. This might be the year because there's no Summer Olympics. If they win the gold medal and he plays any sort of role, even a role like the Four Nations last year, he scores the winning goal,
Starting point is 00:41:06 and then they go, you know, he wins the heart. I almost don't even care what he does in the playoffs. The problem, like, Shea's won it two years in a row now. So that's one where I would lean. If let's say Shay's MVP again and they win, I would still say, guys, he's won two. You've got to give it to me. What if it's McKinnon?
Starting point is 00:41:26 What if the abs win the cup? He wins a constant wife? No, he's never won one. Yeah. Like, that's possible. I hear what you're saying. Like, the sentimental value. I think you've got to do a better job of representing
Starting point is 00:41:36 hockey. They barely won any of it. Yeah, it's been, it's Crosby in 09, Price and 15, and then Marie-Philippe and 22, that's it. I do, and there's several people to represent hockey, and I do, look, the committee does consider it
Starting point is 00:41:53 and there's, but you're right, you're right. It's one of those ones where you look back and you go, and you look back. And then it's like 93 Mary-Lamew. Yeah. What is happening? Gratzky won a like three times, I think. I do think we give disproportionate value a lot of voters give disproportionate value to Olympians
Starting point is 00:42:10 on those things. Right. And now that there's an Olympics every two years, you know, you got a McHale Kingsbury or whatever. And that is, yeah, those discussions are had that hockey needs to be given a little more. Our boy, Sean Sinclair, just sent me this note. I'm very glad he did. So, Celebrating has 67 points.
Starting point is 00:42:32 The Sharks have scored 134 goals this year. That means he is fact. it in on exactly 50% of their goals. Only players who have done that by the season's end. Gratzky did it three times, Lemieux twice, McDavid twice, Yager once.
Starting point is 00:42:48 If he is in on 50% of their offense. Maybe he's Canada's male athlete of the year. Northern Star. The Northern Star. So you're talking not only Heart Northern Star. I'm going a step above. The Heart and the Northern Star. Jonas, go ahead. You print out a ballot.
Starting point is 00:43:08 This guy is in on 50% of their offense, and they make the playoffs. Nope, sorry, you stink. McDavid McKinnon are ahead of you. By the way, how many points did McDavid have the year that Taylor Hall won the Hart trophy? I don't know. I don't know. I think he has three. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:43:25 That was another thing. Three. Again, with my previous takes. Sid, I think, has two hearts. Ovi has three. Lemieux, I think, has three. Like, it's just history would indicate you don't get to four, five, six
Starting point is 00:43:37 hearts. Only Gretzky does that. Aetton. Yeah. And like seven of them in a row or something like that. That doesn't mean you're right, right? Well, I may not be. And if I'm not, we'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I think Jeff and I recognize that this is unbelievable stuff. Yes, he's a great player. He's the best player
Starting point is 00:43:53 having an amazing year. He's the MVP. Okay, there you go. And if he's not the MVP, it'll be McKinnon. Or McCarr. Or McCar. All right, James. See what I have to do with? Do you have a ballot, James?
Starting point is 00:44:05 They don't let me vote on anything. So it looks like I'm the only one with any control here. That's scary. You're the only guy would it take. And you will not be sweet. I get on the World Junior All-Star team. That's my only ballot I get in the world and the Northern Star. I love how Frankie, Frankie, you and him were,
Starting point is 00:44:22 Frankie was like, hey, when are we going to put together the votes? And I'm like, I've been doing this for 10 years and I don't get to vote on the All-Star. You have to do non-Canada games. to get a voting privilege. It does. You have to show that you've watched somebody outside of... You don't think I watched the other games? I don't know, do you?
Starting point is 00:44:41 They weren't on in our hotel. It does seem like a reasonable requisite. You kind of have to cover the other games. Yeah. You know, that is disappointing. You're not a voter, though? And no Diet Coke? No Diet Coke, no vote.
Starting point is 00:44:57 How about this? Let me leave you with this. Me and Puffy go out to watch football on Sunday. the Niners and the Seahawks, the game before it was the Panthers and the Bucks. We go to six sports bars, and the Panthers and the Bucks are not on. Not one TV. All hockey in every TV and some college basketball. We finally found in the sixth one, one of the TVs that had the game on. No way.
Starting point is 00:45:19 The NFL in the United States of America. Do you not say, hey, man, can you put this game on? Well, we finally at the last one, asked them, put it on the TV. Is that on Thursday, though? No, that's Sunday. Was that the Sunday game? I thought it was Thursday. Saturday.
Starting point is 00:45:31 It was a Saturday. It was a Saturday. Saturday night, 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock. Isn't that incredible, though? The National Football League in sports bars. Like, that's the only, I'm trying to get on the top of the explanation. I think the wild were playing, so that was part of the thing. But that is crazy. But they have like 10th. We couldn't believe it. That is really weird. In America.
Starting point is 00:45:50 You'd never think that. Anyway. All right, J.D. Well, we'll catch you on the panel tonight. Thank you for letting me clarify some of the lies that have been told on the program. Is Frankie a bad driver? Is that accurate? He's aggressive. I like the aggressiveness, but I will say that I switched over to Puffy after three rides or so.
Starting point is 00:46:09 And let Jeff Handle Frankie. Restars. Yeah. But he did save my life when the guy was going the wrong way in the on-ramp. I thank both Frankie and my Human Shield, Megan Redwood, for that. Yeah. Megan is the Queen of Overdrive. We love Megan.
Starting point is 00:46:24 All right, James. Great stuff. We'll catch you on the panel tonight. There is James Duffy. Leaves Flyers on TSN4. Tonight. Overdrive continues up on YouTube live. Let's face it, everyone can use a little help in better understanding their technology.

Starting point is 00:47:47 Thank you very much. Yeah, that's impressive stat. 75 points for McDavid. Oilers have 145 goals. Wow. That's an impressive stat. Very impressive. He's a great player. Playing at the height of his powers.
Starting point is 00:48:04 You're going to be sweating bullets like that gif watching him come down the stretch. You know that one gif where the guy's just sweating. In airplane? Yes. He's the pilot. I'm going to be landing this McDavid take and it's going to be a sweat. A rocky road coming down. A sweat.
