Love it.
Which means the lakeshore, not accessible.
Yeah that's a downside.
But I'll tell you what man, if you haven't had Patek access at a big time motor race
before.
Bring the earplugs.
Yeah bring the earplugs for sure if you're sensitive.
Even if you're not.
I think I'm probably half deaf because I've been in the paddock quite a bit over the years.
Exactly.
But it's so much fun, man.
It's like there's one thing to watch racing on TV.
There's nothing to be up close to it.
And being up close gives you a whole different feeling for the speed and the noise and the
power.
I don't know where you are because you cover a lot of stuff.
For me it was, we used to do at Global the Indy races in Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver
and Montreal and I loved each one of them because they were different.
Different Indy races.
Yeah, they were different but you know, obviously different cities.
But what I liked about it was, you show up on Thursday
and you start a little bit Friday,
get a little more serious, Saturday very serious,
Sunday the race and then it's over.
Like four days, quite a build.
Quite a build, did they ever jam you in the back seat
of that two-seater car?
No, I regretfully, I did not do that, but I know you did.
I did, that was fun, that was wild, man.
I've never got so fast in my life outside of an airplane.
And going down that Lake Shore Strip at whatever they go at,
close to 300K, I believe.
And a quick downshift.
Yeah, quick downshift, and it makes you feel the contents
of certain body parts, I'll tell you.
You know what you had for various meals.
Yeah, did they prep you on that?
Oh yeah.
Do not have a burger before entering the cockpit.
Yeah, it was a little bit ugly for me, yeah, do not have a burger before entering the cockpit. Yeah, I was
It was it was a little bit ugly for me. It was a little bit ugly for me, but I
Thoroughly enjoyed the ugliness. It was it was a thrill ride
I just I you know It's quite different from what we're used to with the the other the major pro sports team sports
And that's a team too, but but everything happens so fast
It's crazy, man. Like it's I don't know how these guys do it.
I really don't.
I mean, it's one thing to ride in the car.
Do I actually drive the thing?
Oh, the timing.
I mean, especially on that one, because if you think of
coming out of the straight and into the corner
that gets you on to the lake shore,
that's an interesting bit of downshifting.
Then you shift up to go along the lake shore, and then coming off that, that's a severe downshift. And I mean, just being able to,
and the other trick with the Toronto track is concrete and asphalt.
Yeah, a lot of bumps. And those cars ride so low, the seats are not padded, Jim. These
are just like raw fiberglass seats.
Well, I mean, first of all, the driver has to be really, really tight, really in great
condition and just mentally sharp.
Mentally sharp and you've got like you're dragging your rear end along Lake Shore and
when there's a bump, you feel it.
It's incredibly taxing and that's a couple, like I think we got taken around for like
one lap.
These guys are doing like a whole afternoon of that.
Well, that's four days of it too, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a tough, that's a tough, let's just say it's a rough ride.
So the Jays are off today and off to Sacramento to take on the Oakland A's.
Scherzer, Gosman, and Barrios are the listed starters at this point.
I mean, I would assume that they follow suit.
But Bassett wants to once again there and help out
yeah one in you know we're here for sure is right given
where you've been is four or five that that's
we need to look good
he has a time to have for sure
it's just this is a bit of a wild card terms of his health and
how that thumbs gonna feel on any given day but
yeah that we pay
go to a sacramento
minor league park the face the athletics is uh...
a good antidote uh... to uh... whatever ails to face the athletics is a good antidote to whatever
ails you I think.
This is a pretty good setup for the Blue Jays coming into the All-Star break.
So let's get more on what the Jays are up to.
Chris Rose is your host of baseball today.
Chris, welcome.
How are you?
Doing great.
How are you?
We're sort of apprehensive, I guess.
You know, the Jays have been on this nice roll that ended yesterday. Have you sort of recast the Jays based on that winning
streak? Yeah, I don't know how you can. I mean I'm shocked. I said like at the end
of May I thought that the Yankees are gonna run away with it. I did not see
anybody else getting close. For the previous two years I think the Jays were my World Series representative
from the American League, so I wasn't going to go down that route any longer. And it wasn't
that they didn't have good players. I just thought for whatever reason, this mix of guys,
not that they're bad guys, they're good guys. They just didn't seem to be working. And now
you're getting like the bottom third of the lineup
has been ridiculous when they've got guys
that are a little bit banged up.
Eric Lauer, like I didn't even know he was back in the league
until he started winning.
I was like, what is going on here?
And so they've put it together and good for them.
We'll see if they're gonna be a buyer in a couple of weeks.
And this is going to be hopefully for Toronto fans a really memorable last three months
of the season.
Hey Chris, a lot of eyeballs popped out of sockets yesterday afternoon when the Blue
Jays released their lineup and they were resting Alejandro Kirk they were resting
Ernie Clement they're arresting George Springer Davis Schneider did not start
and yet they had a day off today and then three more games than an all-star
break what did that say to you about maybe their concerns about you know
fatigue and the and the long grind of the season. Yeah, I mean, you'll see a lot of teams do this
where they're gonna give guys multiple days off using,
I think they had a day game yesterday,
if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, that's right.
I don't.
So where you kind of give them that day off
after a night game,
and then you're gonna travel to the West Coast
to play the A's.
Yes, it's an off day, but still, you know, it's been a long half.
You know, you're talking about 90 plus games for every team.
And I know people say, well, hold on, they're about to have three or four days off.
Yeah, but they, these guys are dog tired.
If you spend any time around a major league team at the beginning of July,
everybody's tongue is hanging out. They're like, when can we get to the middle of July already so
that extra time I would you can't read anything into it other than let's just
play the long game here yes a double-digit winning streak is awesome but
let's look at where we are you know six eight weeks from now and let's look at where we are, you know, six to eight weeks from now and let's just
make sure everybody is as rested and as healthy as they can be, particularly with Al Andrew
Kirk.
I mean, he's going to have short time off because he's going to Atlanta.
I'm curious about the chemistry thing.
You know, a collection of players that somehow come together.
We expect that in other sports.
For a baseball team to have that,
and literally guys that have been called up from Buffalo
the first game that they make a major contribution
and keep going, what's that worth for you?
Well, it's hard to explain.
All I can tell you is, you know,
I don't know if you remember, but I'm a Cleveland guy,
and I actually saw the Guardians in Chicago a week ago today.
And I talked with a couple of the guys, for the most part, it's not entirely true, but there are a lot of the same guys that made it to game five of the ALCS there that are on this roster.
Yes, there that are on this roster and I caught him in the midst of a 10-game losing streak And so I said what what is going on here? It's not like good guys turn to bad guys in one year
That's not what happened. He said no, but you just
They couldn't put their finger on it, but it's more of a feel than anything else that
With that particular team
They've got so many young guys that are still trying to prove their worth at the major league level that when things start going south
They don't have that security blanket to fall back on the Jays are in an entirely different situation, right?
Blads now got his money George Springer has got a ring and his money
Kevin Dotsman's a nine-figure. Chris Bassett has made a lot of money.
Alejandro Kirk got his.
You know, Beau Bichette is pretty much the one guy
that's kind of next in line to go get his one payday.
So it was hard to figure out
why this team couldn't come together.
And by all indications, and I spent a day with them
when they were out in Anaheim.
Good dudes, the clubhouse seemed fine.
I talked to people behind the scenes,
like everybody was getting along okay.
Just sometimes for whatever reason, the mix isn't right.
And I can't tell you the difference
as to why it's working this year
as opposed to the previous two years
when a lot of the pieces, not all of them,
but a lot of the pieces were the same.
What's your, when you look at Vladdy, Chris,
what's your level of concern that,
yeah, some of the numbers are really good,
he's walking a lot, he's getting on base,
the exit velocity on his line drives is really high,
but the ball's not going out of the ballpark,
he's only got 12 home runs, not exactly befitting of a 500 million dollar man how do you see the
expectation for Vlad E's power game and what we might expect into the second
half here? Well he's an interesting one because I kind of wanted to see him get to the open market,
nothing against Toronto because I couldn't figure out exactly where he fit.
Like was he a $300 million ball player?
Was he $250 million according to other teams?
We know what he means to Toronto, right?
It's the only place he's been.
He was born there.
His dad was a star north of the border.
So I understood why he meant means so much, not meant, not past tense, means so much to that
community. But in between six war seasons, like 2021 to last year, talking about a four war player,
a two war player in 2023, this is a guy that posts every day and a four war player, a two war player in 2023.
This is a guy that posts every day and a two war player, like
that's not $500 million.
So I think you just have to understand that there's going to be years where he
might hit 28 homers and that's going to be it.
You know, he, he had one year where he's hit more than 32.
He's had two years where he's driven in more than a hundred runs and
So if we're expecting Aaron judge numbers, that's not what you signed up for with this guy
What you signed up for was?
Longevity because of his age, right? He's 26 years old
So you're hoping that he can do this at a consistent basis for the next eight or nine
years and then there's going to be some regression. So I think he signed up for more consistency
than excellence and I know that's weird when you're talking about a 500 million dollar
player.
For you, how big of a snub is George Springer in the All-Star game? I don't know.
I have a hard time with this one, particularly in kind of where we've gone in how we evaluate
players the last probably six to eight years.
We've become so heavy on a war and his war is not ideal.
Right?
It's not top of the line.
Yeah, it's 1-6, which is
just a smidge better than Beau Bichette,
who has not had a great year.
Now, what he has meant to that team
has been significant, right?
And he has been eons better than what we've seen out of him the last three or four years, right? And he has been eons better than what we've seen
out of him the last three or four years, right?
He's finally kind of living up to that contract
with almost a 900 OPS.
So I have to put more on the back burner for him
when I'm evaluating him.
Do I think that he should be there
in front of Stephen Kwan?
Yes.
Do I think he should be there
in front of Jul Kwan? Yes. Do I think he should be there in front of Julio Rodriguez?
Yes. But I think the players voted both those guys in, if I'm not mistaken. So for everybody
that always says, oh, well, players should be voting for this and that and the Hall of
Fame and that. Well, I don't know. But you tell me. I think George Springer's had a better
first half than those guys, even if war doesn't stipulate it,
because those two guys in particular that I mentioned,
Quan and Rodriguez, are so good defensively
that their war shoots through the roof.
And maybe that means that we need to be paying
more attention to guys who can cover ground
in center and left than drive in runs
and make things happen offensively. I don't know.
Hey, Chris, there's some rumblings
that Commissioner Rob Manford, on behalf of the owners,
is pushing for a Major League Baseball salary cap.
It's the last holdout of the four major sports,
not to have one.
The labor agreement that's currently in place
goes till December December 2026.
We up here in Toronto spend a lot of time
talking about the salary cap in hockey.
Now we're talking about a lot in the NBA
given the new regulations, the second apron
that everybody's kind of hung up on.
What are the odds that we're gonna be talking about
a major league baseball salary cap
in the coming years in your mind?
Well, if we are, it means that there's probably
gonna be a work stoppage, which would suck.
And there's no other way, I'm not gonna decorate this
with nice, sweet, cool, fancy words.
It would suck.
And that's speaking as a guy who's covered the sport
for 30 years, but more importantly as a baseball fan.
I just, I don't see it happening without a major,
major fight on their hands.
I just, you know, for 50 years it hasn't happened.
And since the reserve clause came in, it's just not,
I mean, you talk to any baseball player,
there's not one of them that's gonna be like,
yeah, you know what, I'd be willing to listen to that.
You're just not gonna find it.
So at the end of the day,
this sport could come to a grinding halt,
and I sure as heck hope it doesn't.
That's not where we're at.
And I take that right now.
There's too much good young talent,
and we've made such great strides.
If we do it again, ugh, God, I can't even think. Guys, you're ruining a perfectly good
afternoon.
Yeah, well, okay, I'm sorry about that, Chris, but I mean, it is an issue and I'm wondering
like is there an argument to be made from a fan perspective? Forget the players and
forget the owners who are rich and probably get richer, but is there an argument to be made from a fan perspective? Forget the players and forget the owners who are rich and probably get richer, but is there
an argument to be made from a fan perspective that this would ensure parity?
Well, it would ensure parity if you put a floor on it too, right?
This isn't going to turn into the Cleveland interview, but my team is bottom five in payroll.
They were in the ALCS last year and they cut payroll.
Yeah.
How's that sit with us?
Terribly.
So what are we gonna do?
Are we gonna make it max out at 220,
but there's a floor of 125 per team. Like that's not going to happen either.
You're going to get fighters.
You're going to get owners fighting owners.
Um, I just, it feels like we're too far down this road to have that incorporated.
And do I think it would be good for the game?
Yes.
I mean, Colorado was eliminated the first three days of the season.
Pittsburgh's talking about trading Paul schemes because they know they won't be
able to compete with them over the next four years before he becomes a free
agent. That's horrible for the sport. That's not the way it works in the NFL.
You know, it's just whether or not you have enough smart people in your
organization to put it all together. That's not the case in this sport. NFL, you know, it's just whether or not you have enough smart people in your organization
to put it all together. That's not the case in this sport. Sometimes the smartest people
work for the smallest market teams. And that's the way that Cleveland every couple of years,
Tampa Bay virtually every year, stick around and make it interesting come October, Milwaukee
as well.
Chris, as the trade deadline is three weeks today,
so if you had a Blue Jay wishlist, how long would it be
and what's a minimum acquisition for them?
I do, I wouldn't mind a backend starter.
You know, a guy that I can rely on every five days to
be out there.
You know, they've dealt with both Francis and Scherz are having injuries this year.
And you know, I mean, every team can use a bullpen arm.
Hoffman's been great, with the exception of May, I really think that he's been exactly
what you're looking for.
I mean,
Santander will be back at some point, right? He's on the 60 day.
Where are we in the midst of that?
I was out for a little while.
Yeah, it's getting there.
They're talking about mid August.
Okay. You know and Varsho is hurt again right? And now Jimenez is on the injured
list I think. So you know maybe a little depth in the outfield, an extra outfielder
in case it takes one of those guys a little longer to get back.
Um, but I don't think their wish list is,
it doesn't feel real long. Does it to you?
Well, would you, uh, add a backup catcher? Because I mean, there's a lot of pressure on Kirk to stay healthy and deliver.
Yeah, but.
Honeyman played well, hasn't he? Yeah, he's been good. So, you know, I mean,
you're talking about, Al Andrew Kirk's going to play back there 75% of the time, and he's great.
So, every, every team in this league, like the Padres would love a catcher, the Giants would love
a catcher. I mean, I'm talking about a starting guy and here you are mentioning
about a backup catcher I mean it makes me laugh a little bit like you know what
we call that good living guys that's good living if we're talking about the
backup catcher situation yeah no doubt about it no you know I would like I'd
like about six new hitters in my everyday lineup. Can you loan a few?
That'd be helpful. All right Chris, so you see those Detroit Tigers a lot. We're trying to make
sense of a big part of how big the DJs should go in the trade deadline shopping list is about
how realistic is it to win this American League which
seems somewhat open right now with the Yankees not you know not good being good
but not great with the Red Sox having their struggles with you know with the
Astros good not great and then the Tigers are the best team in the AL right
now by record but how good are they? Good, really good.
I and I'm not a hundred percent sure,
but I think I have them representing the AL
in the World Series with my preseason prediction.
I definitely had them winning the Central.
I thought that somebody was going to press them.
I didn't think Cleveland, Minnesota
and Kansas City would all tank the way that they have.
Not tank intentionally, but I'm just saying poor performance
But Detroit's really good and when you have the best pitcher in the league and he's pitching great
When he's pitching great
then
That's a huge pace setter
because if you're in the midst of let's say a
three-game losing streak and it's scoobles, man, it can just change your fortunes in a second.
Um, I do expect them to make some sort of move.
Uh, I still think that they need a ninth inning guy.
Will Vest has been very good.
Tommy Kaley has been very good, but I do think that there's guys to
be had out there possibly.
Now I think they're going to be fighting with the Cubs,
maybe the Dodgers, definitely Philly
for some real back end help,
and there's guys that are available, right?
David Bednar has kind of crept his way back
into being what he was when he was an All-Star.
I think Emmanuel Klosset can be had.
I'll be curious to see what Boston does, which
way they go, even though they currently hold a wild card spot. If they want to sell high
on Chapman, they could do that. There's guys that can be had that can change, you know,
playoff fortunes at the back end.
It's going to be a fun race for sure. Chris, thank you. Appreciate it.
You got it guys. Take care. Enjoy the break. Rest up. Okay. I love it. You gave me the line of the day when you were talking
about a backup catcher. That is incredible for fans who have lineups that stink. My God.
Good for you. I'm happy for the people in Toronto. That is good. I hope we never have to venture down that road because if we do, look out. Chris, thank
you. Chris Rose, host of baseball today. Let's just hope that Kirk, healthy and delivering.
Oh yeah. And I see the point. Like I know a lot of fans were, you know, apoplectic that
they didn't play a great lineup yesterday against the White Sox and Kirk was among the guys that they did not start
But as he said day game
They game and then and then look we see today as an off day
But it is also a travel day and travel is not exactly an off day as much as these guys are charter
Their charter flown. It wasn't load management. Was it? Yeah was load. What do you mean? Exactly what it was a load management wasn't yet was loaded what do you mean
uh... exactly what it was
i was being served at all
but i mean
look i mean it's uh...
they've been rested
prayer they rested court there is
ernie clement
davis schnider and so
makes some sense right but i think her because the guy
since we're focusing on the catching depth.
You're right, there's a lot riding on him staying healthy
and him staying rested.
I'm not saying anything's gonna happen,
but you'd like to have an insurance policy.
You wouldn't wanna have it come down to
you didn't acquire.
Yeah.
And now what do you do?
Good point.
But I mean, let's face it.
If Kirk does not continue to do what he's doing, then this team is losing a big piece of what it is. I think you could say that
for a lot of people. Yeah. I mean it's it's an ensemble cast it's not one guy
at any any particular time it's it's a group of guys. Right but in terms of you
know if you lose an outfielder there's other outfielders. Yeah. You lose that
catcher there's not a replacement
then so in a hurry
is my line for that
coming up next on taxi of l
you know i'm on but will stop by from the civil and t s and no game tonight but
plenty on the weekend
and concern
about the argument
not much concern about the cats or the alouettes but nonetheless concern
about the argument as we continue on an Overdrive live on

Welcome back, final half hour on a Thursday. Jim Taddy, Dave Festock from the Toronto Star, subbing today and tomorrow.
See about action, none tonight, tomorrow night.
It'll be Calgary in Saskatchewan.
The riders are 4-0.
Saturday, Ottawa in Hamilton against the Ticats.
Ottawa 1-4, Ticats 2-2.
And Sunday at 7 o'clock BC in Edmonton against the elks lines two and three the elks one and
three and in terms of the overall standings the writers of the story here
no question about that at at four no i did know that they get there and in
montreal since it that three and two so uh... is he not with us now
is either
there there are a few minutes
warmest air from civil and tsn and TSN the panel you know how are
you? I'm doing very well thank you for having me. Our pleasure so
Saskatchewan at 4-0 how much of a surprise is that? You know what I kind of
had an idea that they were going to be successful this year I you know felt
like they had a great season last year and I had personal
experiences with Corey Mace as a coach already and I was a huge fan of his
when he was what my defensive coordinator in, in Toronto.
As a matter of fact, I used to always tell him coach, it's only a matter
of time till you become a head coach.
And, uh, sure enough he did.
And, uh, uh, you know, like you talk to anybody in Saskatchewan, you, you, you,
you can hear and you can see
how you know, you fall in love with him.
It's so easy to fall in love with him and it's easy to play for a guy like him and you
see how he changes the culture.
And you look at last year, they went and lost in the Western semis, though in the Western
finals actually.
And you know, you just know that that they're gonna take strides forward.
They kept practically the same team,
and Trevor Harris comes back,
and AJ Oleg goes through this whole transformation,
and you know that they're gonna be pretty good,
just because again, the continuity plays a huge role.
So it doesn't surprise me too much.
When you look at the Argos, Enoch,
they've struggled out of the gate here, one and four,
and there's an expectation that things will get better
when they get Chad Kelly back and healthy,
but talk about this team, obviously it's more than
just the quarterback, they've had some serious changes on the defensive side of the ball to D do you see you
know Kelly's eventual return as something that could be a turning point
or is there more that ails the Argos that that may hold them back this season
I mean you got to look at this team and again like how new it is that key word
right I talked about it with the Saskatchatsman Roughriders and it's a complete different opposite for
them in Toronto you know you look at the defensive staff period Kevin Idaven's
been there but he's still a co-defensive coordinator now with Shivers who came
from Edmonton I believe and so that is a huge change already or at least one
of the changes then you look at the defensive line it's practically a whole
new one the whole defensive line in Toronto from last year went all the way
to Edmonton and so there's a lot of changes on the defensive side of the
ball and then on top of that I haven't even talked about the offense yet but
even on top of that you also lose your pillar on defense the one constant you were supposed to have in Wynn McManus so that's extremely
challenging to overcome then yes to your point Chad Kelly not being there
absolutely hurts as well so you say well you know Enoch Nick Arbuckle was the
starting quarterback at the Great Cup last year yes but he was a starting
quarterback practically for a different team really and that's the
challenge that it is when you're looking from the outside and you know you see
the same jerseys, the same name and they practice from the same building and the
same head coach and all of that but it's a different team you just got to realize
that. I talked about it at length last year when Nick Arbuckle took over the
team for at the end of the year there. He took over a team that was extremely defensive dominant. I mean,
they were extremely dominant from the defensive side of the ball. And again, not to take anything
away from Nick, but he didn't have to do too much from a quarterback perspective. He came in and he
didn't have to be a hero in the
Grey Cup and then they ended up dominating on defense and playing
extremely well as well and at least and didn't cause any turnovers on offense so
they were able to win the Grey Cup. So now you look at this team right now
they're a different team guys and you think about the fact that when a new
coach enters into his first season with a new team we often give them grace give
them a little bit of grace because hey hey, look, it's a new environment for him because it's
a new team. They got to get acclimated and whatnot. Well, guess what, guys? I'm not asking
for grace necessarily, but I'm telling you guys that it's a similar situation from the
standpoint that it is really a new team without Chad Kelly, Wood McManus, and the continuity
that you thought you would have on defense.
Well, a lot of times in sports we talk about the next man up and that's totally relevant,
but you have to have the right people in the right place.
And a good example of that is Hamilton.
They had Lawler and suddenly Bolivar Mitchell looks young again.
Exactly.
Exactly.
I mean, that combination was amazing and you've got to give credit to Ted Gavaya Ted Gavaya who comes from Winnipeg
He's a guy that would have had them a lot of experience with you know, Kenny Lawler over the years
you know, he was on the staff and so he knows Kenny very well and
He's seen him how he works and obviously the impact that he has on on
On the team that was in Winnipeg.
So he comes out here, his first order of business is, hey, I have a gunslinger in Bowle Vy Mitchell.
Why would I not pair him with the best receiver that I know from experience and seeing myself?
And so he pays a pretty penny to bring Kenny Lawler to Hamilton and now that we finally saw them clicking because you got to
You got to remember the first few games of the season
Boldy by Mitchell knowing exactly what Ted Ted DeVile also knew and Scott Milanovich bought into as well
They knew that the last game the potential of what happened in the last game was something that could have happened in any given day, in any
given game. However, it just wasn't happening. So it's a high risk, high
reward kind of scenario with a guy like a Kenny Lawler, but it's paying off and
when you see it connect, it's a thing of beauty. But again, Ted Gavaya deserves a
lot of credit for bringing him there. But here's the thing, guys.
I think we're talking a lot about what Kenny brings to the table and the type of impact
that he has on an offense, which well deserved.
We have to talk about that.
But what I love, and the more I talk to the guys in Hamilton, is that this man actually
transforms a team.
He changes it.
He impacts the people around them.
We often talk about great players and we talk about, well, they elevate the people
that are around them.
This guy actually does just that.
And it's by the approach that he has towards the game of football and what they
are telling me in the locker room over there.
And I'm, I have a good relationship with, with, with, with Kenny, but
I've never played with him and what they're telling me is the
intensity that he brings compared paired with the talent that he possesses is
absolutely unmatched because of the intensity that he brings you have no
choice but to give it your all every single day I'm talking about a practice
I'm talking about a game if you'm talking about a game. If you
watched last game, Luke Wilson was asked, hey what impresses you the most about
Kenny Lawler? He mentioned Kenny is over here screaming and chirping the opposing
team's punter, you know, and that's the intensity that I'm talking about. And
when you're a part of a team and your best player brings that
intensity every game whether it's practice whether it's watching film
whether it's playing a game you have no excuse but to do the same and so that is
what we're not really off it and we're not talking about enough but again
that's the benefit of bringing Kenny Lawler and I'll tell you what he is
worth every single penny and I'll finish with this guy
He's worth every single penny and I talked about how high risk high reward
His game is and and you know you're gonna have to wait for another six catches and 207 yards performance that he had last week
But here's the beauty about what he did him and both
He now sent a message out to the rest of the league. Now you come into the game I don't know why Toronto didn't start double teaming
and triple teaming after the first the third catch at least but you know they
sent a message to the whole league. Now you're playing against the Thames and
Tigers catch you know that this is a potential and they are going to get so
much more attention but to they're gonna give so much more attention to Kenny
Lawler whoever it is but while they do that now it opens up the door for the Tim whites
for the Shamar Bridges and Keandre Smith and everybody else to actually step in and even
opens up the ability to have a balanced attack with a good running game and Greg Bell's involvement and so that is the beauty of Kenny Lawley.
You do this one time and now everybody has that fear and they'll remember this game for
the rest of the season and that's how it helps the Hamilton Tigercats.
And he doesn't have to repeat that performance but he can do it anytime that he plays the
game.
Yeah I love that Enoch. Speaking of intensity there was some
there was some intensity after the game on Saturday after the the Lions recorded
a walk-off win at Montreal and then they had a walk-off brawl heading into the
tunnel and the league suspended the Lions defensive lineman Kamoko Toure for one game for his role
in what they said was inciting it.
What did you make of that situation, Enoch?
And in all your years of football,
what's your best memory of a brawl
or worst memory of a brawl that you were a part of?
Listen, I mean, 2021 Eastern Finals
against the Hamilton Tiger Cats in Toronto.
I don't know if you guys remember that one.
We had teammates that crossed over and started fighting fans and fans were swinging.
It was Hamilton Tiger Cats fans.
So I remember that.
And I've been a part of it.
You know, it's football.
And if you've ever been a part of a football team you know in training camp at some point or another
I've been a part of a bunch of teams where guys go hey guys it's been kind of
calm now we got a we got to start a fight on defense now when it happens I
kid you not this happens every training camp and it happens but that's more for
the sake of motivating and and creating spark when, especially on the days that things are coming a little bit repetitive during training camp.
But when you talk about having things like this occur in a game, there's no space for this. There's no room for this in our game.
And it comes down to the discipline that you must possess as a team
and the leadership that you have to have
in the locker room as well.
So, you know, it's great to have all these emotions
but it's also better to be able to control them.
And so, you know, you wanna have guys
that have differences, different ways
of dealing with different things.
And, you know, that's what makes up a great team where not everybody is you know on the same
page necessarily or not necessarily the same page but not
where not everybody is the same type of individual. However, I'm not a huge fan of
the extracurriculars and football and you know you can talk your trash if you
need to and if you want to but post game you know you gotta win with
Humility and lose with grace as well. So
You know the league took action and there were multiple fines that were handed out as well as the suspension that you mentioned
It would be impossible to keep everything in check with an Argo tie cats playoff game. I mean
ago, Ty Katz playoff game. I mean, has that ever happened?
Oh, man, I've seen, I've seen, I've seen quite a bit, man. I've seen quite a bit when the Argos traveled to Hamilton.
And but the one that I was referring to was was at home
after a loss. And, you know, listen, the truth is this man,
like, we football players were human beings, right? And
especially after a lot of them
the wrong word can incite certain things and and that's what happened in that
case and i don't know the particular details about this case but
you know uh... again i think
there needs to be a level of discipline that that that that allows you to
not cross that line well you brought up an interesting point game you brought up
an interesting point uh... brought up an interesting point.
No athlete likes to lose.
A losing dressing room is a morose place to be,
but there's no bigger crash for me than a football loss.
There's a lot of emotion there.
So much. So many emotions.
And, ah, man, football is a beautiful game.
Guys, I tell you guys, I'm not trying to be biased.
I played multiple sports, you know
Growing up I used to you know, my early days living in Montreal. I used to want to be a hockey player and
Then it moved to basketball
I fell in love with basketball and I played volleyball and then I fell in love with with football
The rest is history, but the football the game of football is one of the most beautiful
the rest is history but the game of football is one of the most beautiful sports there is out there for its inclusivity and the different sizes
and people that get involved and the challenge of galvanizing a team and
allowing them to work together. You know the adversity that you have to
overcome and I've always been so so grateful for the the way that it allowed
me to grow as an individual and the growth
as far as a leader and how it translates to life.
It's a beautiful thing, but to your point, again, you have different individuals with
different circumstances and have experienced life in different ways.
So the challenge within the team is to kind of find ways to to work together as one and to win as many games as possible until
you're able to hoist the trophy at the end of it all. However yes those
challenges do occur and it's like okay I'm in the locker room now who is going
to be the leader to step up to put things into perspective so that we can
learn as much as we can from the game that we just played
especially when you lose right and
And I'll tell you this you talk about the challenges. Sorry to make it so philosophical
but you talk about the challenges of of
Being in a locker room after a loss in the football in a football locker room after a loss
but
One of the things that I learned is that, you know,
it's harder to learn the lessons that you need to learn
when you win, right?
Cause you feel like, okay, well we got the win.
But those are the times where you wanna really harp
on the things that need to be corrected.
And so again, I love football for more than just
the experiences it gave me and the life and
the ability to make some money for myself.
It's so much deeper than that.
So yeah, for the football, it's a beautiful thing.
It's a beautiful game.
Hey, never apologize for getting philosophical, Enoch.
It's great to hear.
Great to hear.
Let me ask you this one, a bit of a hypothetical that was brought up by Devonte Adams the other day on the Dan Patrick show. He was
talking about LeBron James and you were talking about yourself being a multi-sport athlete who
who delved into basketball. Devonte Adams was making the case that if LeBron James would have
chose football and he did play some high school football, LeBron would have been to quote Devante,
one of the great wide receivers or tight ends of all time.
What do you make of that?
I mean, it's hard to go against it. The man has been playing for, um, you know,
over 20 years now and,
and is still at the top of the NBA and, and,
and is one of the most competitive guys. And he's extremely, that D word discipline
comes back into it.
The reason why he's still as relevant
as he's been over the last two decades
is because of the discipline that he has
within his own life and how he approaches the game
and how he respects the game.
And he is a student of the game
I don't doubt it at all. It's it's really hard to to go against that
I know we're talking about hypotheticals, but you know you talk about the durability that he possesses and
You know the physicality and and and that's basketball physicality because that's two different things if he had the football mindset
I think he would have been a different level of physical.
So, it's hard to go against that.
The man, you have to respect the body of work that he's put together on the basketball court.
And we can only sit here and appreciate the fact that this could have been a possibility and if it was,
yes, we would have probably still been talking to him.
Definitely probably not two decades long of a career in football, but for sure a long
one as well.
Hey, thanks very much for stopping by.
Just between you and me, you're new to this, but you're doing a great job.
I truly appreciate this, guys.
Oh, fantastic.
Outstanding. Yeah.
Enic Moamba from the CFL on TSN panel and animated and well spoken and does a great

Well Jim first thing what we're going to do is we're going to head to the Braves and Athletics. We're going to bet the under JP Sears,
Spencer Strider. I don't personally, I don't see how this one got to 10 and a half. The often back
in the the Strider starts he's been pretty solid and same with Sears in his last couple. We're
going to the Guardians. We had Chris Rose on. I'm feeling good. Guardians money line and lastly Red Sox money line.
They've been on a tear parlay those together.
That'll be plus five fifty one.

So Dave, some time here, a couple of minutes.
Boston, you brought that up in a couple of our interviews.
Boston at the trade deadline could be really intriguing too.
Oh, for sure.
I mean, they're starting to catch some fire, right?
They got the longest win streak going now
that the Jayses ended at 10.
They've won six in a row and seem
to be getting over the fact that they traded
their best player, Rafael Devers,
after some acrimony in that dugout in Clubhouse,
seem to be back on track.
So it'll be interesting to see what the Red Sox do,
because we always know there's always pressure
to win in Boston.
I was talking about summer league.
So tonight, Dallas against the Lakers,
Cooper Flag debuts.
You can watch it on TSN three and five at eight o'clock
and tomorrow night, the Raptors against Chicago, summer League from Vegas, TSN 4 at 8 o'clock as the offseason for
basketball cranks up. It's pretty good stuff. They're calling it the most
expensive Summer League game ever Jim. Quartz side seats at the Thomas and Max
Center in Vegas for Cooper versus Brawny, Mavericks versus Lakers, 2,500 bucks to watch a summer league game.
Wow. They used to let you in the gym for free. I know they would just they would
coerce you to attend. Please come! Yeah, we'll comp you something somewhere but please go to the
game. Well it's an interesting package that the NBA has. That summer
league is pretty exciting to watch. Built it from nothing. It was
it's amazing how they did.
It was Warren Ligari, the old agent that kind of had that brainwave many years ago, and
now it's a nice TV package in the summertime, and when you've got a player that's arriving
with the anticipation that Cooper Flag is arriving with, you're going to get eyeballs
on that product.
Good look at some young Raptors as well tomorrow night on tsn four
and again you know i go back to the catching depth
i'd just praying
that the tat man is is it in left field in this one but but you know blue j
history
has shown us that freak injuries of cost the team
over the years at the weirdest time but it's actually would be the same time now
i have a good here you wish you know i don't know if you do you know what i want to. Are you wishing you don't wish it into existence?
I want to be totally wrong on that.
Don't speak it into existence, I think is the phrase.
That's right.
I put it out in the universe but in a negative fashion.
That's right.
You're hoping against it and as we all should.
But you're right.
Hey, there's a reason why everybody buys insurance, right?
That's right.
And you just got to think that way a little bit.
And insurance is great until you need it.
Exactly.
Expensive though. It is expensive, but nonetheless, if you don't have it,
it's even more expensive.
Very true.
Yeah, so Jay's in Sacramento against the A's, not tonight.
The A's are actually busy tonight,
so maybe it's a good weekend for them.
Like a throwback to the pandemic days,
playing in a minor league ballpark.
Isn't it something?
Not the mullet arena.
No, probably worse actually. 9,000 seed000 seat or something like that I don't know well
