I don't want to get expectations to be out of control or people wanting this, haze you
wanting this, but I may have one more NBA nugget coming up later in the show if it pops
up.
I don't know if it's going to come to fruition.
I don't know if it's a rumor or rumbling, but my source has said hang tight.
Hang tight for what though?
Something Raptors related or something NBA related in general?
It is a nugget.
Are we talking about the Knicks?
Are we talking about?
It's a nugget that I'm not really sure on the
direction, the context,
but I might have one moreba nugget if anybody's interested
i'd
think we're all very interested because you know we'd love to go from the next
right any chance we get to go from the new york next
or james dole and we will take advantage of that we did that in the previous hour
i can imagine not back-channeling like even a text telling one of yours first
one
person in your organization,
hey shoot a text to Jason Kidd and see if he'll take this job quickly.
FaceTime, call him right now.
Like, call him right now before I do this.
Tamper, you gotta do some stuff.
But they look like idiots right now.
Imagine the leverage having if you're the next guy they call, now come it's 12 million
a year, 20 million, whatever.
Like you could just sewer them.
You realize what's happening here is the reason these reports are getting out is because the
other teams are dunking on the Knicks now.
Like Dallas, and you know that the Dallas GM has been dying for someone to focus on
someone else for a while, immediately would have picked
up the phone and called Shams or anyone else and said, guess who just called me? Leon Rose
just called me from New York City, New York and asked for permission to chat with Jason Kidd.
And I said, absolutely not. Report that please.
Just don't say where you heard it from.
And the same thing in Houston and everywhere else in the league.
Now the Knicks, they look like just fumbling, bumbling, you know.
Buffoons.
Buffoons that just don't know what they're doing and where they're going to go next.
And by all accounts here is just the follow-up nugget.
It wasn't a different, like like Lakers anything like that. From what I've been
told the firing of Tebes was player driven a hundred percent as crazy as
that sounds. Really players are not a fan of Tom
Thibodeau driving them into the ground that's his reputation right plays guys
too many minutes. That's just what I'm hearing. I don't want to go crazy.
You know of all people that this is real deal stuff coming in.
I understand that.
Yeah, listen, I would be surprised by that based on, you know, the head of the snake
is Jalen Brunson and by all accounts Brunson loved him.
Maybe that changed.
I don't know.
Yeah, if you have one guy that loves the coach and 12 other guys that hate his guts, then sorry,
the 12 other guys overrule the one.
Generally speaking, but in the NBA and...
Depends on the who's star player.
Yeah, like Brunson is the man.
Now maybe things have changed, but I would say, you know, that's a good question.
That might be a good list.
You know, most powerful positions in American sport for protecting their coach.
I would think quarterbacks got to be number one, right? Like if Mahomes wants Andy Reid
fired and everyone else loves him, Andy's in trouble, I think.
Alpha dog number one centerman? Like?
Possibly. I don't know. That's a good question with the hockey hockey team I feel like it depends it it's almost like an individual case study case by case
Study because hockey it's your alpha dog slash captain
Like if McDavid says don't even think of firing the coach or not firing the coach. Yeah, you're right
It just the Dallas one wreaked of young players because it's by all accounts
The you know, Matt Duchenne put out a post saying loved you know Pete DeBoer he helped me with my career and
all that Jamie Band liked him and all of that but it might have been the young
up-and-comers that didn't like that DeBoer hurt their feelings or you know
Ottinger didn't like that obviously Ottinger didn't like what went on but he
contributed to that as well it's not not like he was standing on his head and Pete just pulled him out of the net.
I think it's case by case study.
Hockey is a team sport.
I can't think of a manager in baseball getting fired because of one guy.
There's just so many guys around.
Yeah, exactly.
Then again, it comes down to power more so than anything that team dynamics like if they're a judge turns
on erin boone these boons
to start packing your bags you know you're probably out no tony's to an
extent
you know again it's it's just about
like how much
how much power you have not only within the organization board were also within
the marketplace
you know where if if the fans if you, like to get 100% support,
not a lot of athletes have that.
Like not a lot of athletes.
Why do you think that Sheldon Keefe was playing
rap music during practice and letting him wear
t-shirts and sneakers, cause he was like,
that's what these guys want?
That's what they're gonna do.
Right, and I don't remember a lot of them posting, hey, thanks for everything, Sheldon.
It's not that you have to.
There's no requisite for doing that.
You just mentioned Matthew Shane did that on behalf of Pete DeBoer.
Shanahan the same thing.
I mean, there's more of a disconnect there.
Shanahan's not with them every single day.
He's not in the trenches. He's not a coach.
I think a lot of it hazes just your acquaintances, man. How many guys you play with where your
career's over and you're kind of in a business together, you're friends, you do stuff together.
But I think there has to be winning involved to have that kind of like, that's my coach
and that's my guy.
If not, like you're just another guy that you kind of worked with and it's an acquaintance
type of relationship.
Right.
You know what I mean?
And don't force it just because you feel you have to or whatever.
There's always, every team has, regardless if they like the coach or not, there's a few
ass kissers on each team that shine up an apple and put it on his desk every day
right but do you know there's no need to do it once the guys gone
i know
all you've i'd played with a few
i played with a few that were always like
it was too much it was
it was ass kissing 101 where it's like alright stop it like
every time they came off a coach you know should have gone through that lane
gun like just stop it some guy had a lot of play rates we live this is my favorite
line from one guy played with
he would be under the gun
and just feather in
outrageously high-risk pep saucer pass throughout the neutral zone
over three guys stick
and he come back to the bench and he'd be like moe
i had no other option there
and moe would be like that was an unbelievable saucer but i just it would
make me vomit it was so
well that's during the game
uh...
and i i could see that
but then there yeah there's the other guys like usually coaches kids you would think they grew up
Their dad was a coach all the time. They just they've got a certain way of going about their business
Yeah, all right. We've got Rex Hoggard from the US Open coming up drugs coming up game for the Cup final tonight
Here's Frankie Corrado or TSN hockey analyst joining us here on the Maple Toyota hotline. What's happening Frankie?
hockey analyst joining us here on the Maple Toyota hotline. What's happening, Frankie?
Boys, you know which one used to drive me nuts? You know at the start of practice when you're doing the Daytona 500 and everyone's just kind of shooting their pucks around,
there's that guy who seeks out the coach and he goes,
I need to go have a Daytona 500 chat with the coach right now, the assistant coach,
and I don't know what they were ever talking about,
hundred chat with the coach right now, the assistant coach, and I don't know what they were ever talking about, but there was giggles and it was like, ha ha ha.
And it like, you know, some of us that were crusty cause we never played with look at
it and be like, what do you possibly have to say to the assistant coach, every single
practice when we skate around and do these laps before the practice gets going, just
planting the seed, right?
Planting the seed for that extra shift, right?
Yeah.
Just trying to avoid being the guy who serves the too many men on the ice penalty.
Yeah.
Just every inch counts.
We had a different term for it.
We didn't call it ass kissing.
We had a different term.
I don't think we can say it on the radio.
Yeah, I'm sure you did.
I'm sure you did.
But yes, someone had a great tweet.
I think it was about TJ McConnell from the Pacers
Like he just he looks like the kind of guy that would say quote like coach is right guys
It's on us to get it together
Like just go out of his way to echo what the guys were saying, you know
What there's guys there's guy I have heard that before coach will come in like Kara strip off the walls And then someone's gonna be like boys, you know what their guys there's got i have heard that before coach will come in like care a strip off the walls and someone's gonna be like
but you know what he's right a like it's been there we go for the uh...
exactly that
it just hoping the coach just is outside the door and here's a set to it's like
they don't know what you have my jersey next year who knows
uh... anyway so we look ahead to game four tonight and you know that we've been playing the hits
here the last couple of days talking about the big boys and how reasonable it is to expect
them to have a night.
But it does, you know, I said it the other day on this show, I said it on Jay's show
that the beauty of where we are right now when we're in the cup final is like all these
goat conversations happen all year
They're going to happen all summer
And there's all these different
You know pillars that you talk about what crosby accomplished and lamu and gretzky and all that
Like mcdavid's in the eye of the storm right now of a legacy build
Like he's he's right there. He's playing game for the cup final tonight where over the next 10 days
he can really really kick that can down the road in terms of just
Chasing down said eventually maybe chasing down Gretzky
Like I really don't think you can overstate, you know
how significant tonight is and really the next four games are because
You only get so many cracks at
the true like pegs in your legacy, like the real building blocks of legacy.
And that's what McDavid is facing going into the game tonight.
It's true.
And for me, the biggest challenge of that is, and if you go back to game three, you
know, McDavid sometimes he's unbelievable, but he wants to, you know, McDade sometimes, he's unbelievable, but he
wants to, you know, kind of play hero puck a little bit, right?
And be the one that goes through four Panthers players and, you know, kind of put the team
on his back.
And, you know, it shows you how much he cares about that and how much he wants to win, how
competitive he is.
But sometimes in those situations, like, it's not going to work.
More than trying to play hero, it's about having that one play on your stick where you
execute it and make it happen in a big moment in the game.
And that's what happened at the Four Nations for me when he scores that goal.
It wasn't the McDavid show.
We weren't leaving that game if he didn't
score that goal talking about how McDavid dominated that whole night. But we were talking
about McDavid after he made that one great play at the right moment. And that's the challenge for
him playing against this Panthers team where it almost feels like it can be counterintuitive.
Where the more you want to push and the more you want to say, like, I'm going to have that Panthers team where it almost feels like it can be counterintuitive.
The more you want to push and the more you want to say, like, I'm going to have that,
pick your basketball player over the years that had like a 50 point night and you said,
like Michael Jordan put the Bulls on his back tonight, he had 52 points.
I don't think you can compare the two equally because it's hard to do that against a team
like the Panthers.
But if you kind of stay patient and stay with it,
eventually you're gonna have that moment
where you can pull the trigger and say,
that was the one, like that was the McDavid legacy moment.
But it's almost like he has to find that balance
between staying somewhat persistent,
but also patient at the same time and hoping that
that play eventually develops for him.
Frankie, Chris Knobloch has been a pretty proactive coach.
He's a guy who kind of, you know, tinkers here, tinkers there, especially in-game adjustments.
We see a couple adjustments here coming into the game.
It's Klingberg who hasn't looked great.
You slide in stature
Arvidsson comes out for Jeff Skinner, you know, let's talk about the defenseman, you know
Just a slight adjustment with was with you know stature that comes in
What do you think he can bring to the table different than a guy like Klingberg?
Probably just less variance from shift to shift right now like and with that being said Klingberg has had a nice playoffs
But the Florida Panthers are they're just a different beast compared to who they have played as far as how they from shift to shift right now like and with that being said Klingberg has had a nice playoffs but
the Florida Panthers are a they're just a different beast compared to who they have played as far as
how they forecheck and how tenacious they are and I think with with Troy Stetcher you know what
you're going to get like it's not a super high ceiling like it's not a Klingberg ceiling but the
floor is is pretty good on Stetcher and he's fairly consistent and I get it, you know smaller guy
You know, but I'm not I'm not more worried that Troy stature is gonna get pushed around as opposed to John Klingberg
so I think it's more just you know, not not having the
Potentially Jekyll and Hyde type ships from Klingberg and knowing that it could just be like a little more
Flatlined with a guy like Troy stature who like he's played well for the Oilers
just like Klingberg has but it gives you a different look and a guy that's new to
the series and I think a guy that you know consistently know in the minutes
that he plays that he can he can move the puck fairly well he's going to
defend as hard as he can and ultimately if you're not asking him to do too much, you're putting him in a position where he can potentially help your
team.
With Frankie Corrado, a TSN hockey analyst. We're starting to see some news around the
NHL, like the Cryder leaving New York to Anaheim news. I guess he had a 15 team, no trade,
and he had to wave it to go there, but
now he's talking about how great they are and how they're turning the corner and all
that.
We had an interesting chat with Pierre Lebrun yesterday where Pierre said, his understanding
is there's not that many sellers out there.
Even the Rangers are selling, but they're doing it for a purpose.
They're not trying to bottom out.
Ton of phony teams that think there's something and they're nothing that they well
I guess that that's what I'm getting to like how delusional are all these teams
To think that they shouldn't be seller like this feels like a great opportunity for a crafty team
That can be patient for another year or two and I know it's difficult to do
But if you're San Jose, if you're, I don't know,
Utah or something like that, maybe you take advantage of the fact that there's a lot of
desperate teams out there, there's not a big market for sellers, and just bide your time
a little bit more.
It feels like there could be some stealth mode moves.
It's just a matter of whether or not GMs have the appetite for it.
Well, like we know that, you know, executives, agents, they will try and shape a narrative
to make it more advantageous for them.
Like we see it all the time, stuff gets leaked.
With something like this, I think there's two things.
I think the first thing, you know, if you do realize that it's a great market for a seller,
yeah, you're going to say, you know, we don't want to be sellers, but you know, for the right price, of course, we could be persuaded.
And all of a sudden, like you're working behind the scenes. But the other thing I think is relevant to this conversation is there's some teams that have been bad now for quite a while and probably have in their mind what are the pieces that are
supposed to move them along
and they're probably saying well if we've been really bad for three years
enough's enough like we can't do a fourth year we gotta start climbing up
the ladder
but they're probably better served to take a look around them and say well
realistically
who are you passing
we get in you know
like san jose's been bad chicago's been bad
uh... you know anaheim started to take a step last year
uh... buffalo's been badly you gotta go through the list billy's been bad
we i don't know if you
i feel those teams and i'm like we keep you've all been bad for a little while
now
uh... are you getting to the point where you like you're getting impatient with I see all those teams and I'm like, well you've all been bad for a little while now.
Are you getting to the point where you're like,
you're getting impatient with things?
Is your fan base getting impatient?
Are you having trouble selling tickets?
All those types of things I think enter the conversation.
But, and it's not even about Gavin McKenna,
because it is hard now to tank for the first overall pick.
But you almost wanna take a page out
of the Montreal Canadiens playbook where let the progression happen organically.
They didn't force it, they didn't push it.
All of a sudden the team got better and they were knocking on the door to the playoffs
and they made the playoffs against all odds.
They didn't declare that it's their time.
If anything, they kind of were a little more cautious about it.
That's the approach that these teams should be taking and be patient because what's the
difference if you're bad for three years or four years if you can find ten good years
at the end of it where you're competitive?
Frankie, we debated the three UFAs for the Panthers and how many of them would return
with Eckblad, Marchand and Bennett. How many do you see returning to the
Florida Panthers and do you think if they go back-to-back that could influence
their decision moving on?
If, if...
At the most it's going to be two. I cannot see them
finding a way to bring all three of those guys back
and the two guys that i
would put my money on is bennett and that black
i think brad marsh and it's been an unbelievable story he's also thirty
seven years old
always going to show me the money mode after this i think that's not going to
be there's going to be teams line and not better desperate to bring in a winner
and march and and let's like call it for what it is
He still got game
Is he gonna have game in three years? We'll see but right now like he can play
You know that the thing about act like he's such a legacy guy there
You know it ultimately
You know there's gonna be some hard conversations as far as the money and what that looks like,
but if we kind of look at how last year went for the Florida Panthers where they had Reinhart
and Montour and they had to make a decision, they went with the forward and they saved
money on Reinhart still and they didn't sign Montour, but in the long run they found a
way to bring in their replacement version now, which I
guess if you want to call it Seth Jones or then Seth Jones becomes your Echlad replacement,
they have some wiggle room that way. I'm sure you guys are sick of talking about taxes and
how that can be implicated and all that stuff, but it's a real thing. If the Panthers wanted
to pay Sam Bennett $7 million
and he was willing to accept $7 million,
that's basically nine and a half in Toronto, right?
So like they do have an advantage there,
but I think all things, you know,
once they kind of go down the road,
I would say it's two at the most
and it's Bennett and Eklad.
And I wouldn't be surprised if it's just Bennett based on their track record of just keeping Reinhardt last year.
Yeah, and yet they'll probably recover and fill in the blanks and move on and continue
to be a great team.
That's the amazing thing here.
Jonathan Taze will sign there for 875 grand.
Great, exactly.
They'll trade for a defenseman.
That wouldn't shock me, man. Yeah, next next year at the deadline will trade for the next defenseman
that's available
and
well
that's not a lot of a guy like they they have
blended the best of both where
they can go out and get the big fish like they've done
and they've also taken swings on guys that
people were afraid to
and it's worked out for them
like it's not just one way of thinking.
They've blended the both perfectly.
Well, and that's, you know, going to put the pressure on the other teams within the conference
and certainly within the division to follow suit, you know, and that's where the Leafs
come into play.
Tampa, what are they going to do?
Montreal, they got, they're going to have some room and some flexibility and they got a lot of young players and, you, what are they gonna do, Montreal? They're gonna have some room and some flexibility
and they got a lot of young players
and are they gonna stay patient, Ottawa, as a team?
It sounds like Ann Lauer wants to make a splash,
they got some money, they made the playoffs this year.
Everyone wants to make a splash,
where, like, everyone wants to make a splash,
where are the guys that you're making a splash with?
That's the issue.
That's sad.
If Bennett goes back to Florida
and Tavares goes back to Torontoida and tomorrow's goes back to toronto
uh... and you shane goes back to dallas you know the biggest
named centerman it out there is it's peter
rightly that that's not a splash that the good player leaded to a handy guy to
have
uh... but it's it's not easy for teams to make a splash if you want to make a
splash you know fine
gonna have to find way to be creative with trades or RFAs or something different. It's different this year.
Do you want to do a mini Jerry's on the fly, guys? What's the mini Jerry's? There's an
offer sheet. I think 100%. I think I'll give you 68% that there's an offer sheet but it is going
on now i think
i think we're we're gonna have to see who overspends in free agency and put
themselves in a tough spot because there's gonna be a pain
they get crunched it you know i and says
we're just gonna do a we're gonna spend money and we're gonna try and squeeze
our rf a and not the team that someone's target and say, you know what, we got you now.
Well there's also a lesson that came out of last year and that is that Dillon Holloway
has fired his agent.
And I'm curious if players will be...
For what reason?
I'm not sure what the reasoning was but my guess would be he feels like he made a mistake,
either taking the deal in St. Louis or he feels like he should have got paid more because he had a great season.
And if you're Dylan Holloway and you're looking at it saying, why didn't I just stay on, I'd
be in the cup final right now.
Like why did I leave Edmonton?
Well, think about this.
If Dylan Holloway just accepted a qualifying offer, right, which would be, you know, roughly
a million or, you know, around there on a one-year deal after the
year that he just had he's signing a huge ticket like he's signing a 60
million dollar ticket meanwhile he's stuck on another year with his deal with
st. Louis making two in a bet and he's gonna have to have that same year again
and hope that he can sign the big ticket so maybe there's a McDavid
Dreisaitl influence like maybe there might be that in Toronto too where they have big dogs making big cash and there's
a feeling of those type of guys aren't getting a big ticket.
They're always going to try to get lowball because they have to have money for those
other guys.
I don't know if that would be an influence.
You're right, but at least then you have arbitration and then you know like you have comps after and it's just different
Because you're just you're more in a position of leverage where you know this year
He got a little bit of leverage from st. Louis
But now he had a great season and he's like now I'm stuck still making two in a bit when I could have had a
Comparable of someone who was making six million dollars and have a strong case
Yeah, and the other thing too is I think this is the first time we're actually going to see,
keep in mind the cap's going up and it's not going to go back down. They're talking about the cap
being you know north of a hundred very very soon, 120 within five years like that. So I think you're
going to see salaries continue to grow and that's the biggest challenge.
We went to Matthew's agent, right? Is Judd?
Yeah, Judd Moldover, who is McDavid's agent as well.
As well, but you know, I think if you look back, a lot of people were kicking Edmonton in the junk about letting them go.
And you know, listen, both are really good players, but in the end, you end you know Broberg they had to trade for Wallman who I think Wallman is maybe farther
along than him more veteran guy so that's what they were looking at and
Holloway would certainly be extremely valuable there but again he was a young
guy and they what did they give Arvidsson or Skinner one of those that's
the type of money he would have been slid in there's and more veteran guys so in the long run I think Edmonton didn't you know didn't
make out as as well letting them go but right now the orders are back in the Cup
finals again I don't know the full reasoning why he fired his coach but the
point I was making or his agent but the point I'm making is you know the there
might be players learning from that being like why would, why do I want to leave this place?
So why am I going to lowball myself and go somewhere else and then I'm over there and
that team now owns me.
And there's just, you know, an offer sheet doesn't guarantee you anything.
Like it doesn't guarantee you're going to, you're going to get it.
Like those were low, those were like short-term deals.
You know, it's one thing if it's an eight year deal at massive money okay that then you're locked and then you have
importance you know all the way in broberg those were short-term deals in
short money well you're trying to call their bluff at that point right like you're just trying to say you know what guys like I'm gonna call your bluff like I'm ready to go so And I think they would have thought... Edmonton would match.
Yeah, like those are... the Broberg one was more aggressive, but the Holloway one, they
could have matched that if they wanted to.
For sure.
That's $2 million.
That's not a big deal.
That's the crazy one.
The Broberg is four and a half.
Broberg's four and a half.
That one's different because you every every dollar counts
but you can't match the 2.2 for Holloway. Like that's the they saw something there or they were
like we're just going to move past it at that time and you're right him signing a two-year deal at
2.2 and having the year that he had he should have been better he would have been better signing a
one year like Frankie said at a million bucks and you're in the cup final and you're right and having the year that he had he should have been that he would have been better signing a one-year like frankie said
at a million bucks in your in the cup final in your right now when you go on
that you go on this year
and and write yourself a big check make a lot of money this year for sure i
was a huge mess
you're gonna have to stay healthy and have a sixty point year and score a
bunch of goals and then he'll have
you know i'll have options
because they'll have comps and he'll have some leverage,
but he could have been doing that this year.
No player guy, let's be honest with ourselves, no player is sitting there saying, you know
what, I'm going to have about five million guaranteed coming to me.
I'm a young guy.
I'm in my early 20s.
No, I'd rather take 850 grand and just, you know, kind of play
it by ear that way. Like that's a, that's a tough way to think. I wouldn't be thinking
that way at that age.
Right. Yeah. Of course. Hindsight is 2020 with everything, but you know, he did fire
his agent. So something happened clearly. Exactly. All right, Frankie, enjoy the game
tonight. Thanks buddy.
Yeah, boys. No worries. Just deciding where I'm gonna take drags out for dinner again tonight
So we'll uh, oh you're picking up the tab for drags now
Okay, cuz he was throwing some grenades at you last week. No, I know I heard I heard I heard there's a signature move involved in everything

We are you know inching closer to to free agency uh... you know less than
where we twenty days away
less than twenty days away from uh... july first and
again of the bars three signs in toronto and then it resigns in florida like it
just amplifies mariner
on his own
like as a big fish as of July 1st, right?
Like it really like clearly he's the number one guy
But if Bennett resigns after winning a cons might than a cup if that happens and then a week later
He resigns in Florida. It is a massive gap between the profile of Marner and whoever else is gonna be out there
Yeah, I guess I literally will eat raw chicken the night before
free agent frenzy. Well there's always stuff going on because there's gonna be post draft and trades
and there will be signings and the lease will be active you know like unless they sign Tavaro
San Nise in the next week or two it could get closer to the you know July 1st deadline and then all of a sudden you really have a
story on your hands in terms of where the Maple Leafs are at.
Also again as of July 1st a lot of big players in the league can sign extensions that kick
in next year, right?
McDavid being one of those.
I think Marner's case study is going to be fascinating because I was reading again, take
it for what it's worth.
You're reading a bunch of things last night.
I was and like him wanting like dry, subtle money.
It just like there's for me, it's no way.
Like I just, I don't like it's an impossibility.
It's insanity.
I'm sorry.
It's got a hundred points.
But noodles, it's always, I know like that's where my... I've said it all along.
Where there's a bunch of guys, or there's a chosen few guys that could go to their GM
and say, I'm next in line for that to be the top guy or make more than that.
He ain't one of them.
Sorry.
So, if some GM wants to do that, you're a moron.
As talented as he is, and yes, he gets 100 points or close to it and he plays in all
situations he is not the next guy in line to make the most in the league i'm sorry that's insane
otak and if you do that it's a mistake it just it's a lot of money like and i can see it i get
like listen he's he's going to be on team canada he is a top tier player. He's a supers, all of that type of stuff.
It just doesn't guarantee that, okay, you're the, it's leapfrog time.
Like I just-
Well, he's not capable of just being better than Dry Settle.
Like it's just not gonna work that way.
Right.
Sam Reinhardt scored 56 goals.
He didn't go to the Florida Panthers and say, I'm the next guy in line.
And they would have said, no, you're not. Well, exactly not well exactly because he's not you know like Marner what is he the
15th best player in the league 22nd you know I'm 56 goals cup winner up for the
Selkie all that kind of stuff he ain't the next guy in line no not even close
not even on his own team the same thing with Marner here in Toronto all right
why don't I I got a list for Marner that I'm gonna throw out you
guys can react to it. Dregs coming up on Marner and others including the Cup
Final tonight Rex Hoggart on day one of the US Open. Jays are off today back in
action tomorrow and the Pacers are in the driver's seat in the NBA Finals
winning last night game three they're up 2-1 in that series.
Overdrive continues, TSN 1050N on TSN 2.
Squinting through bright days?
That's a no.
Struggling with glare?
Also, no.
What about sunglasses over regular glasses?
Big no.
But prescription sunglasses from Pearl Vision?
That's a huge yes.
They're a must have for enjoying the sun in style.

FanDuel bringing you everything from the opening line of the final score.
Darren Drager in half an hour, Rex Hargit from Oakmont in about an hour.
The O-Dog has established himself as an NBA insider today with a couple of scoops that
have just led to an absolute storm throughout the NBA community.
You know that you saw what they were and I'm not like I hear you have no idea who I talked
I I know and listen, this is the time for crazy
Stories, right? Everyone's hearing them. I heard one
Yesterday, I believe it was maybe this talk to me. Tell me what I'm not even gonna get into the details
It was a it was a Mitch Marner
Oriented story that if the true I'm like, that's interesting.
That would suggest to me he's out of here.
Honestly, you can't do that to us on our show. Bring that up and then not tell the story.
You have no idea who I'm talking to.
I know, but I want to hear the potential that this could happen. What is it? I want to know.
Well, again, it's not even a litigant.
Who cares, dude? I want to be created crazier the better it was what is out a potential commitment somewhere
that mitch declined that would indicate to me that he's probably think about it
here so i don't
i'm not gonna be a draw on all anymore so i know what it is and i know what it
doesn't matter what it was and again i can't corroborate this so it's it's
getting silly power just were were rumor millilling joe from the bridge type stuff
yeah i do have a good life
it's i'm not getting into it do you know that the point is that what i wasn't
even getting i wasn't gonna say what i heard what i was saying what i was
suggesting was
that's the world word right now i'm hearing this about our studio matthew
nines is doing it like you know everyone's got something else
that they're hearing in
you know with marter it's always felt like a foregone conclusion that he's
likely leaving maybe not you know maybe they circle back maybe
cooler heads prevail maybe the leaves decide when this mox are the dust
settles like a this makes sense for us to continue
but i think both parties just need to shake hands and say we're out
You know we're gonna go a different way
So if and when that happens and he signed somewhere else I have a list a five-pack here of
Mitch Marner outcomes that will bother the fans the most
Alright, all right. This is my opinion and there's a lot of different options here
All right. All right. This is my opinion and there's a lot of different options here
All right And again you to be to be fair to any player who's a ufa and decides to leave because they're a free agent
That's how the league works, right and a lot of leaf fans are like, let's move on from Mitch
Let's move on from other guys. Let's turn over the leaf and start anywhere. So it's not all leaf fans
I think a lot of the fans are ready for a fresh start and a different feel with this team. But those that are pushing
to keep Marner or those that are just constantly, you know, the victim of Leaf fandom, this
is the list that I have compiled. Okay. Number five, I have Vegas. I have every signs in
Vegas and it's more about Vegas than anything else because this team did not exist when Marner was drafted
You know like this team is in the desert
It's in Vegas
They haven't even been around for ten years and they've won a cup and they've been the two cup finals
And they get everyone and there goes Mitch couldn't win here couldn't help them win here
It's not only him but off the Vegas I go
You know because everyone goes to Vegas and when they do go to Vegas generally
works out well
so I think it's more about the marketplace than anything else
but Vegas at five number four to this one maybe should be higher up the list
I just have to back up like what what do you think Vegas
like do you just think that there the big they've always been known as the big, tough team
and they wanna bring a different element or?
No, I'm just saying Vegas, they've bullied their way
into the league and they just win all the time and
I think it's more. And they get everybody.
Yeah, it's not even about Marner from that standpoint.
It's like, Lee fans will be like, really Vegas?
You know, Vegas is gonna get this guy
or of course he's gonna go there and they'll insulate him
and it'll work and it'll be in Vegas of all places
You know, this is the original six Maple Leafs and go into a team that hasn't even been around for ten years
So that's why happening. That's why I've got Vegas at five
Well, listen Curtis according to fan duel the odds of the next team for Mitch Marner Vegas is plus 300
They got the lowest odds or
shortest odds so Vegas at five number four again this maybe should be higher
up the list but I have Carolina at four now heads will explode that he didn't
wave to go there at the trade deadline and then signs there on July 1st if he
does that that is ridiculous agent work because you could get the eighth year
and you just said no and then you sign back there in the summer that is ridiculous agent work because you could get the eighth year and
You just said no and then you sign back there in the summer. That is bizarre Good point that does that would have to raise that question
Why wouldn't you take the eighth year or work out the negotiation at that point now again?
He didn't have to wave
They were expecting their first kid. There's a lot of things that were up in the air
I don't blame Mitch for that but the idea that he would go on July 1st and Rantin and is now in Dallas
Would not go over very well the Leaf fans. Yeah, right. So Carolina for yeah number three again. These are the the five
Mitch Marner outcomes that would bother Leaf fans the most number three if he signs with any other Canadian team
Any other Canadian team which I don't anticipate happening but there are some
people throwing out Ottawa would love to pay him Ottawa would love to get him
there's a splash you steal the local kid he rolls down the highway he's in Ottawa
not sure I see a fit there necessarily but again you know what if maybe
Edmonton comes call I don't know know. Maybe Vancouver comes calling or Calgary.
I would guess my prediction would be if he leaves this city, there will be palm trees
somewhere.
There would be some kind of sunshine where he could live on a golf course and be totally
be in a totally different space.
That would be my prediction.
Yes, I agree with you.
My prediction even a little further is just across the border.
Because if it's, I'm not saying Buffalo, but I'm saying Chicago.
You know, there might be Utah, like, because if there's a massive price tag attached to it, then you make that happen.
But he, I predict, and again, I could be 100% wrong, South of the border and in the Western Conference.
That would be my guess too, but at number two,
you talk about palm trees, Florida.
Besides in Florida, heads will explode up here.
It's a Kevin Durant-like move.
I don't even know if that can happen.
With Echblad and Bennett, they're
going to have that cake floating around for him?
No, it's not going to be that cake.
It's nine million.
It's eight, whatever.
It's Reinhardt's deal.
They can fit him in.
It's just a matter, does he want to take, and everyone's going to say tax and all of
that, but they have an internal cap there.
They've got, it's Bob at 10, it's Barkov at 10.
Everybody else is below that. You want to go play for an organization?
Like that what's Chuck yet? Nine? Yeah
Yeah, so I mean there there's there's the bar you want to accept less money on paper to go to an organization
Where you think you fit in or you can help or you want to be there?
That's that's what they'll offer. They're not going to go, hey, here's 13 for you just because you're the premier unrestricted
free agent.
Keep in mind, Hayes, you've always said you build it, people want to go there.
It's not vice versa.
The Florida Panthers don't have to beg for anybody's services.
They get all the leverage.
People should be begging to go there.
All the leverage in the world.
Well, and that leads me to number one
you know the number one mitch marner outcome that would bother we fence the
most anywhere for less money
that he's currently making or less money than
is being thrown around
you know where it's
if it's eleven million eleven and a half
and that would coincide with florida
like that because again marners history here is not alone the other guys are the
same boat
it was you know gotta get every penny
and that's the next step you were to bars you know to bars returns i i am
very curious to see what that looks like
you know if they sign him to a deal whatever it is three-year deal four-year
deal
what's that dollar amount
and and who has to explain it? John or Tree Living? I would
suggest both. You know, I would suggest both. But let's say it's 7 million on a three-year
deal.
Seven million?
I'm sure that's what he's asking for.
It's not going to be two.
I'm sure that's what he's asking for.
It's not going to be two.
You know, he might be asking for more.
It just, I think here's the thing. Do you not think that if John Tavares wants to,
to stay, it's going to have to be definitely a hometown discount. But can't you do it July 10th? Like, like, what?
He's probably saying, why would I got to get my life sorted out here.
You think I'm going to sit around and wait?
And what if they give him the high hard one and just on July 10th they're like, that
ain't happening.
There's no way Tavares and his camp will let that happen.
No, that's why he wants an answer.
He wants to figure something out.
But he has the right to.
Of course.
Yes.
You can allow him to go to market and say, yeah, you know what?
This team's going to give me eight.
We say, congratulations.
Take the eight.
And you're going and you look at other players.
You like that's the biggest thing.
Unless you absolutely want him as your third line center for next season that can kiss
up into the second line center, all of that type of stuff, or
play wing.
Who's playing second line though if it's not Jonathan Tavares?
That's the question.
Well, this is where you've got to get creative.
I totally agree with you.
This is where you're talking about trades.
It's not about signings.
It's about trades.
It's about finding players within the league that need to change the scenery. We were just
talking about how everybody's open for business, everybody wants to... you
don't think Brad Treeliving's working the phones right now? Well, obviously, I'm sure he is.
But again, if you're saying Tavares is your third-line center, then you can't
even pay him five million a year, in my opinion. Like if you have
him penciled as your third- line center, you got to have
what does Lundell make four and a half? You know, like you just can't pay a guy six, seven million to be on your third line. No kidding. If he is your third line centerman,
why would you want to pay him seven million dollars? Like that's when those numbers come
like I just don't understand why Patrice Bergeron was at the end of the line and he signs for 2.5 million and all these like I have the comments come in my way in public where it's
like yeah just three years at nine makes sense to me and I'm like you guys are all insane
and that's not gonna happen I mean the Leafs yeah I don't think so I don't know I mean
the Leafs have a history.
If I ran the Leafs it would be very very simple. We just gave you $80 million.
You're going to do us a favor on this one or we're not doing it.
Sorry.
There's no seven.
There's no six.
There's nothing.
None of that talk is happening here.
If you want to come back and you really want to stay here and that's your only objective,
you are doing us a serious favor.
That's the only way and the only terms that this deal is happening. it or leave it go and find a place to play because it won't
be here yep I totally agree with that I see it the exact same way you do but
that doesn't mean tree-living does and it doesn't mean the virus does and
that's what we're gonna find out in the next two or three weeks yeah but like
good player good player guys scores a lot of points for thirty eight goals last year
for the eighty million dollars and he was a part of it they want to play off
series
so why would there be such a need to bring the player back
like are we in star people insane
they never won why why do you have to bring the anyone back get different
players
try it what the hell is it was worst that could happen? So sick of Todd.
People are so dumb.
Be patient and go out there and find pieces, man.
And it might take more than a year.
People don't wanna hear that, but that's the truth.
It may take a couple of years
to fill out your roster appropriately.
And I would say the idea that this,
well, you have to do it for Matthew.
You don't know Auston Matthews anything anymore. He owes you something
Yes, and William Nylander owes you something you paid them a fortune and they didn't show up when you needed them
You don't owe them anything and their window to win
Like you know if it takes you a year or two
So be it and put even more pressure on them to make sure that it doesn't have to be that much
of a timeline.
You know, go out there and pull your weight and find a way to help this team win.
All right, Darren Drager in 15 minutes, Rex Hoggard live from the US Open and our best
bet still to come.

Alright, Dan and Greg are in about 10 minutes Rex Hoggard live from Oakmont US Open John Rahm is
playing pretty well and you know, there's
There's some live players kicking around Phil Mickelson was four over today, though, not looking great for Phil.
There are some guys losing their minds like they're
smashing their clubs into the ground.
Well, Scheffler's two over.
Right. And that's that's fine.
Like he's still in the mix and he's still on the course. But
you know, if he ends up two or three over, DeChambeau was three over.
Justin Thomas was doing some funky stuff out there, man.
He was chunking chips and like launching balls out of bunkers.
I know. You said, you text me, you're like him and Spieth are on planet Bizarro world sometimes.
Yes.
On that golf course
Yet speed is one under right now, so I told you watch out for Giordano. I know I know
But yeah, I gotta go find where Thomas is I don't even know where he is in the leaderboard
But I can't imagine it's going well like there's a lot of really good players who are just getting burned out there It's such a tough tough course i think as a courtesy and i'm being dead serious when i say this
i wanted spawned
the of course you did i i i you want to pay this spot no i know that

He's a guy that I won hard about you lost. He lost the Rory
That's right where he you talk about a guy that was shaking in his boots for that playoff, dude
He was so nervous in that playoff with McElroy. All right, go ahead. You can take spawn
You could take a key add them to my team. you can have a look you can have you can you can
Have the guy who see who I might see who I like see have them have them all right
