Starting point is 00:01:22 What's that for? The Jays have won five in a row. Oh On a heater, I apologize. I thought it was four so I five in a row man Yes, a lot of cynics out there like well, they beat Sacramento. So does it? Yes, it still counts Well, we're gonna complain about wins now Come on Oh, but let's let's rewind two weeks ago where I was like you think this team can get make the playoffs thing You're like they're done. They're done. That's what it felt like to their credit. They're they're like a game out of the wild card
Starting point is 00:01:52 They're chasing the Yankees down. They're above 500. They're mashing Addison barger is up there like Jake Taylor just a stud at the plate having himself a great weekend and Everything's coming up blue. I i thought i think i thought the major league was for something else for sixty four it's not what you're suggesting for sure so i did it guys i was told i was told something first i was told to just bring my popcorn so i did
Starting point is 00:02:19 and i'm just gonna sit back and i'm gonna let haze and you and you know you to break it down i need to hear about about i want to hear all about i have a person who's seen a little about the first of all uh... jp story goto or a gas so yes or a goto jp welcome back you know that's and hazee her to reach you are hot
Starting point is 00:02:43 khani chi wong jp we are glad that you're back from japan after a month long trip And Hazy... Konnichiwa. Konnichiwa, JP. We are glad that you're back from Japan after a month-long trip. And you have to tell us around 640 how many spicy salmon rolls and a banana you destroyed in Japan. Nice. Mandatory to have the banana. Mandatory. Hazy, I've just been gutted because I wish I was there on Friday where Duffy stole what was yours and I would have went on that stage like Kanye when he protested Beyonce getting
Starting point is 00:03:12 screwed from Taylor Swift and he went up there and told everyone the truth. I would have gone up there like Kanye. Well I appreciate that support and I do want to give a shout out to James Duffy, the best sports host in Canada who he did win on Friday. I think you're overlooked. Duffy's good but you're out to James Duffy the best sports host in Canada who I think you're overlooked Duffy's good, but you were over well It's time to switch it up a little bit Duffy is phenomenal all of the nominees phenomenal. It was a great show I was honored to be nominated and invited. I have no idea if I'll ever be back I don't love the chances, but just be honest with with me, I get it. Like Duth, he's a friend, a colleague.
Starting point is 00:03:47 When he got announced, were you a little bit like... Because it happened to me. Canadian Hockey Awards. I won the OHL Rookie of the Year, and the guy was like, the CHL Rookie of the Year was Jeff, and I put my two hands on the things like this, and he goes, freezing. Ah, freezing. And I said, you bastard. Yeah, it hurt. It hurt.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Well, I was not saying this to be humble or to fake it. I had no expectation of winning. I had never been nominated before. Dude, that's not true because psychologically you would not have gone to the event. You would have called someone. Well, of course I'm going to accept the invitation. No, no. You would have called and. Well, of course I'm gonna accept the invitation. No, no, you would have called and said, any reason for me to go?
Starting point is 00:04:27 And someone said, I think you should maybe be there, which got your hopes up and you showed up and you got stuffed. Well, I will say this. I have a lot to break down from Friday. Stopped. Okay, so I have, again, I'd never been nominated, never been there before.
Starting point is 00:04:40 So I have this impression, you know, it's this, obviously it's a big event awesome event You could tell who's never been there before because they bring a plus one I brought my wife with me thinking oh, this would be fun She gets to come down CBC building schmoozing with people drinks food all that no one else has a significant other there Nobody everyone else is all business. Like what do you you know? Because everyone's been there before noodles. I, but like you're in a tuxedo, your wife's in a ball gown, and Jimmy's in shorts and a t-shirt, right?
Starting point is 00:05:11 That's exactly what it is. I'm in my ace suit, my wife's dolled up, we walk in there, there's people in jeans, and they're like, hey, what's this idiot doing? So you know, I'm walking in realizing I am not in the right state of mind you they did you dirty you did it a day to do it extent uh... so i get there and the seating i'm a little bit
Starting point is 00:05:35 curious where i'm gonna be seated i am basically front role center which would have got my attention dot my attention cut winners are up front and center I like we are front row and I sit down to my wife goes I don't know if they'd sit you here if you're you know, not gonna win this thing
Starting point is 00:05:54 So anyway, I'm starting to think maybe I gotta go off deep. Yes cuts deep and then sure enough, you know Devo Brown was presenting our categories awesome guy he's doing an unbelievable job and he's he goes through the nominees and then they call out Duffy now here's where I knew I was in trouble prior to like the new slate of categories they they play a montage of all the different nominees. And Duthies, I'd say, was up on the screen for three seconds, beautiful background, Coppa, like, Messi's in the background.
Starting point is 00:06:32 I guess they showed a piece of your ear. They literally, you couldn't even tell they showed us. They showed the three of us in the montage, and I looked at Aaron, I go, I think that was us. I don't know if they showed us. I was waiting for it to be like a quote where you're like, they're brutal Noodles I'm telling you I think Aaron might have video I'll try to find it like Duffy looks like a million bucks Ron
Starting point is 00:06:55 McClain is in studio laughing and everyone's like hey, there's Ron McClain Andy doing the Olympic thing amazing and then like this It's the the overdrive snippet in and out. I'm like I'm done. There's no chance They're gonna have a guy win. That's barely in the montage I bet if you if you track back and look at the production of things Duffy would have had control of how much air time those types of things I think he got a lot of sweat. He did you dirty him and everybody he might have I don't think so He's the best in the world. He is. He's best in class. We're not just saying that because he's our friend.
Starting point is 00:07:27 We love him. He's the best. He's incredible. He's won a bunch of them. Andy and I after were like, of course, of course he wins. Of course he does. He should win. He's brilliant at it.
Starting point is 00:07:36 But it was great. It was great to be there. Didn't win. And the best part was afterwards, I'm there, Luke Wilson, Steven Caldwell, because they were up for best analyst. They didn't win either. We're all just like, all losers free drinks minus we'll start boozing and eating and then have a good time because Just losers row like the three of us sitting there watching everyone else at TSN win because a lot of people wanted TSN
Starting point is 00:07:57 and that was incredible and Obviously it was it was a great event great day for TSN and the media business in general, but Yeah, Duffy. I think he's got a lot of sway. I think he's got a lot of pull was was great event great day for tsn and the media business in general but uh... yet dot the i think he's got a lot of sway i think he's got a lot of paul michael i about that but anyway moving on that second door secondary because i'm so i what this is a true story too my walk in
Starting point is 00:08:17 cbc building ten floor event center and i got hit with sixty four sixty four did you hear about sixty four sixty four all shot sixty four i'm getting peppered with questions pertaining to you shooting sixty four t p c toronto i was also getting some skepticism i have to be honest with your people saying wait a minute something does not appear
Starting point is 00:08:41 sixty four to championship well i don't know first this is a you want to talk about doing someone dirty you sent out a tweet that said congrats to dot the and congrats to old dog on sixty four with an asterisk why did you put an asterisk beside sixty four all i know if this is what this is what i need to do for a proper cut back i have said here i wasn't there i don't know what's going on i was I Wasn't there I don't know what's going on I was told through the grapevine I was asked to ask you about the scoring process
Starting point is 00:09:13 Specifically on the back nine because you and oh you and Carlo were a team, right? So what games what were you playing team low? Like what were you playing? Was it best? Here's like what was here's what were you playing? Was it basketball? Like what was here? Here's what I was playing My ball. Do you know why because my little partner was Living in the fescue on the left with a banana slice. Okay, I had no option I told Coco and Coco was great guy very supportive after every birdie all seven or eight of them. All I heard was bang Which was very supportive and appreciative you love when it's positive when you're winning and you're rolling in I made a bunch of birdies and by the way this is
Starting point is 00:09:55 all on camera like this is this is I've heard what are you hearing noodles camera don't don't get the popcorn out leave me hang okay so this is, I heard it was on camera. Don't get the popcorn out and leave me hanging. Okay, so this is what I heard. I was working that night and I get eyes on the actual scorecard and you go all the way down. I think it was the hole in question is 17, I think is it 16 or 17. It's late and there's just a star or an X there and and I'm like okay well where's the score on that one it's like okay but it's it it also took a birdie on it it didn't just take par it took a birdie yeah because my 17th hole but there's a star there there's no number but why there's no
Starting point is 00:10:41 number why would you work out why would you take Carlos five for four if you birdied that hole fly for four Carlo did not make any fives for four okay but I think I know what noodles is asking and what why did you not put in your score for that hole why would you take Carlos score for that hole if you birdied that hole what happened guys honestly I have no idea what you're talking about There was never once where I was like I'm picking up. This is Carlos hole So you've never laid out every 18 holes exactly I will go to my grave fighting for you and saying you shot a lot and
Starting point is 00:11:19 Stevie Lawrence are honorable man. You can ask them because once I know I was going low I had a bunch of par pots. I'm like I got to make this and I did but once again it's all on camera I have no idea what scorecard you're talking about well there is a scorecard in question that we could bring up but I guess I got it shown to me because I was just sitting there and I was like explained to me what I'm looking at because I didn't know and the person who was explaining to me going, well, there should be a score there and there's an X or a star.
Starting point is 00:11:48 And I'm like, okay, well, what did the end, it goes, it's written in as a, technically as a three, unless he picked his ball up and just said, write me down for this. So I was like, I don't know these things. And then, you know, I had- Generally speaking, an XO means you blew on 200 yards left and said I'm out of a hole. That did not happen all day.
Starting point is 00:12:08 I never did that all day. And you got to tell me the hole that you're talking about. 14, I believe. It said 14 or 17? I believe it was 14. Let me go back and look. And I want this to be clear. I want you to know this.
Starting point is 00:12:22 I have not... I wasn't sniffing around. I wasn't asking questions, I didn't care. I loved the fact that you shot 64. I loved it. But, okay, here it is, right here. On 16 you took an X. You took an X and on 16, Carlo went 5 for 4, which is a par 4 of the 16th.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Yes. On 16, that was our first hole of the day I bogeyed that hole I made a five on that hole so okay then I'm worried about the calculations I'm concerned about so then you let car now I didn't shoot 64 off and in shoes and he was out quickly five ten fourteen sixteen eighteen twenty two twenty five twenty eight thirty two i got you shoot sixty six
Starting point is 00:13:17 with a bogey on that whole with a book he on that all so i'd never even shot sixty four well we think we don't know we don't like that i hate starting my week this way cuz i do you know i do love hearing because you shooting sixty four i'm concerned you know now it's not sixty four sixty six which is a bit like it's just as this is the other scorecard is a lot of this radio in one day you lost his video okay like anything i was i've got this guy's back.
Starting point is 00:13:46 That's the thing. I'm saying you shot 64. I'm saying it. I'm not now. I'm not now. And I support it and I love it. And I want to believe it. I'm just concerned about some of what other people are questioning.
Starting point is 00:14:00 And I'm trying to clarify that. And I promise that I would clarify that. No, it's not sixty i got by the way when i was informed i shot sixty four it was from scott lotton who he kept our card and we kept theirs and we also had an official scorekeeper but then it's sixty four minutes and he came up to me after he goes you just shot sixty four i'm like uh... all about that he goes i can i goes i counted every one of your holes you shot sixty four so blame that guy i don't know about that. He goes, I counted every one of your holes.
Starting point is 00:14:25 You shot 64. So blame that guy. I don't even care. All right. You're 64. You shot a 64. Scott Lotton. Get Karlil Watt.
Starting point is 00:14:33 He'll have more. He's coming up at 605. He's coming up at 605. He will notify. I don't want to start our week this way. I lost on Friday. You shot 64 on Thursday. That's how we're going forward here. And the J's have won five in a row. And the J's have won five in a row and the J's have won five so that's all that
Starting point is 00:14:48 we got a cup final coming up with Edmonton in Florida Chris Knobloch is gonna join us in about 45 minutes. Hey Z I'll just tell you one thing the zero torque tailor-made putter. Dude, did you use that when you shot 64? Let me just tell you okay every summer all shooting the sixties a couple times where it's like i have seen you i've watched you and played with the apple time shoot sixty eight sixty nine i tried this and i know i'm not exactly tiger woods or scotty schaeffler promoting golf clubs or whatever
Starting point is 00:15:19 but i've tried this potter if you're going to get one potter try it because since i got it i've shot 66 65 and I guess asterisk 64 no no those are those are three intended here we get that's hard I don't want to see that anymore get that off that X is a three it's a 64 I don't see I don't understand it so I was like all right like it was brought to me I'm like all right I don't see. I don't understand it. So I was like, all right, like it was brought to me. I'm like, all right, I don't know what I'm looking at. So then they were trying to explain it to me. And then I was like, all right, I'll get my popcorn and I'll sell.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I'll just watch as you guys battle it out because I have no idea what's going on. I don't want to battle anything out. I love hearing about friends who go low and play that. It's a geeky golf thing. When I shoot my best, I'm going to call oh and tell him you wouldn't believe what now he won't be impressed because for me. It's like 75 74 would be a career round for me. What was the par for the course that we played was it 72 72? Yeah, I believe it was 72. There's no I thought it was a par 70. There's no way in hell It was 64 then well, I've gotten that's let me, let me clear, oh no, you know what?
Starting point is 00:16:25 Oh you're right, it was a, it's a par 70. Yeah, so 64. Okay, now we got, there's too much stuff going on. I think you shot a 64. Too much, for me to try to take me down and do me dirty, man. I did not, I had no interest in doing that. Carlo's coming up, get that tailor-made putter back up there. I need to see it again, it's so beautiful.
Starting point is 00:16:43 And I wonder if I can have that to bed. I'd like to explain the technology. It's a center shafted putter back up there. I need to see it again. It's so beautiful and I wonder I'd like to explain the technology It's a center shafted putter zero torque. I need one. I have to have you got to try one of these I gotta get one. I'm in the pro-m on Wednesday I'm not gonna be able to get it between now and Wednesday, but I wish I could do is I need help I'll see if I can pull a string to have one at that golf course for you. See what you can do See what you can do. I'll see what I can do okay well reset we'll get you really get all by the way I thought I shot 64 you did shoot because now that I'm thinking about it with all of you
Starting point is 00:17:12 know I'm starting to really wonder why I'm being fed misinformation fake news is our 70 I had one bogey in seven birdies so that's 64 through the math do well is it is it Rick Bushwood or what yeah that's a four in the math do well as it is a rick bush what about a sixty four do the math do the math all right here we are now i like it we should probably throw the person who's caused all of this under the bus it's a guy who i want to know who who's who's who's behind all this garbage
Starting point is 00:17:39 it's not the isn't it uh... he didn't he might want to know. It is a Canadian Screed Award winner. So he was like, I know, he started talking shit about me and he said, I saw the scorecard. He said, I saw the scorecard, this guy, this guy didn't... I don't care. I don't care. He saw the scorecard and he's like, this guy didn't even do this. Think about Duthie's weekend. Last week. he saw the scorecard is like this guy to this yes i think about dot these weekend last week the kind i swear to god i'll break into his house and throw all of his awards on the ruins your sixty
Starting point is 00:18:11 four and then there is really is really cool for them at the canadian screen awards and that goes up the stairs and takes the award and shows it right my face and andy patrullo's face and and ron mcclain's yeah's going to jam me up on the panel somewhere. Yeah, I'm next. Right. You're coming after all three of us.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Comes in threes. Watch yourself, Poodles. Nothing is going to take you out of the knees. All right. Chris Knoblok coming up. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN 2. All right.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Overdrive continues powered by Fandual, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. Chris Knoblach coming up, preparing for game one of the cup final on Wednesday night. Game one of the NBA finals on Thursday night. A lot of Canadian content. The next couple of weeks with Shea Gilder's Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Big favors to win there and the Oilers, man, we were talking about it last week. I think this time last week Florida was the prospective favorite to win the series and it's flipped now all of a sudden the oilers I think are a slight favorite I
Starting point is 00:19:11 think we are their favorite or not are you not it's very close I mean you look at the series odds right there courtesy of Fandol they're minus 122 you get a bit of plus money for Florida I don't know I'm picking up on a lot of positive vibes for the Oilers. I just think like people are bringing up the comparisons with Crosby how we did it and then did it again when he went back and Gretzky when he walked by the Islanders dressing room and then they got them again and he did it. I told you guys this before like Hyman out I don't think that those two guys that are leading the charge, they care what's going on. Corey Perry will step up, Evander Kane will step up, I just think they're not going to be denied. They're trucking and rolling and everyone,
Starting point is 00:19:56 it's going to be a fascinating matchup because I think nobody can argue that both of these teams are kind of playing at the top of their game and by the way what a comment from Matthew Kachuk to say to Connor McDavid we'll see you again next year. I remember what a comment. Yeah in the handshake line it was picked up on a mic how about that comment that see you again next year. It was in the prime special. In the handshake line. Yeah that is the only time that there's such thing as respect in the handshake line. Not when you get dummy in the first round. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:31 To say, we'll see you again in this. That is awesome. It was awesome. That was in that prime special. He said that. And then also the Zach Hyman speech was like, guys, I know we'll be back here next year. I feel it. I promise you. We'll be back here. That was I feel it. I promise you we'll be back here.
Starting point is 00:20:46 That was when McDavid was crying and they were all sitting in the room. Heiman went into the middle of the room and made a little speech. We played it on the panel the other night. And those are the, from that Prime special, those were some of the sound bites he got. And you're right, like Kachuk's like, you know, great job. We'll see you back here next year. Now again, if they don't make it back nobody pulls that clip and goes hey you know Chucky you came short on it but what a what a comment for sure because I
Starting point is 00:21:13 I would argue that halfway through this season nobody saw either one of these teams in that position based on where how they were playing and the inconsistencies and injuries and all that other stuff. But you're right, I think both these teams are playing their best hockey right now. Everyone's leaning in Edmonton and rightfully so, Destiny, all that type of stuff. But I don't sleep on this Florida team, man. They have the one thing, and we know how important our favorite position to talk about yeah, Stu Skinner It's like it has to be the heater Stu Skinner that he's been on on the positive
Starting point is 00:21:53 Because if he has even one or two kind of the other Stu Skinner wobbly Yeah, if he has the why couple of I don't know what the number is Hayes But if he has two of them, they're probably toast like two of them will probably cost them. Yeah, I think you know there's a Wizard of Oz like we're not in Kansas anymore type of connection we're not playing Dallas anymore like Skinner against Dallas the last two years has been out of this world like out of this world and everyone else he's played against, it hasn't been at the same level. So yeah, I mean, we can ask, we will ask Chris Knoblock this, like is it just Skinner's net? What obviously is going to start game one? I think that goes without
Starting point is 00:22:35 saying and you got to stick with him and he's been great. He's been outstanding. But yeah, I think there's there's validity to that. Now I will say in the cup final last year, Bob got flushed out at different times, but he settled in for game seven. And in game seven, Skinner was fine. Like he was good. They lost 2-1. Yeah, they lost 2-1. It wasn't a goalies issue either way once you got to that point.
Starting point is 00:22:59 But yeah, I think you look at it. The reason this sets up to be such a great cup final is the really there is no Cinderella here you know this is not a scenario where it's like David versus Goliath. Yeah a team that scraped in. No these are two Goliath teams that are polar opposites like a big conversation going on in the league right now is the taxes and no state tax conversation and all of that and i i get it and will have it as we move forward edmonton they don't have great weather uh... yes they don't have the same taxes is on terry over new yorker california but they don't have the same setup that ford it does
Starting point is 00:23:38 you know i nevada does and you know edmonton just drafted well and signed the right guys and they went through the process of the picked the guy clearly behind The bench that just knows how to do it because knob block has been phenomenal This guy's in a second cup final hasn't even been the league for like 18 months. It's incredible And you got two worlds colliding yet. They're they're both playing incredibly well like Edmonton steamroll Vegas and then Dallas well like Edmonton Steamroll Vegas and then Dallas like they took them ten games combined to be both of those teams those are monster teams man like those are legit hockey teams and you know Florida yeah they dominated them and Florida destroyed Carolina you know it's really only the Leafs
Starting point is 00:24:21 and the Kings I guess put up a fight against either team, you know early in each respective series um, but other than that Edmonton in Florida have just looked like It's like a fight scene like, you know the gangs in New York We're at the end Bill the butcher and DiCaprio like they're they're pushing through bodies to get to each other That's what this is. It's like Florida and Edmonton were like, move, get out of the way. We want them. They want us and we're going to meet in the middle. And it sets up for an incredible cup final. And maybe home ice like last year. I mean, maybe people are, are swaying towards Edmonton because could it be any of a worst start for them last year going down three Cobb? I think
Starting point is 00:25:03 people are maybe looking at it saying there's just no way in hell they're going to do that again. They have home ice advantage and they dragged it to a game seven and maybe that last game. I got to be honest this might be crazy talk but I don't think it's going to be a long series. I always I say that a lot because I just get I get into a favor for a team and I think it's going to I think I think Evans is going gonna spank Florida, I really think. Really, wow. That would be shocking to me. Either of these teams getting spanked.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Yeah, well don't you think, look at what we just talked about. All the teams were at the end of the line. Dallas Stars, they took down some good teams and then they met Edmonton, they were at the end of the line. Carolina, everyone was like, God, Carolina can do this. They met Florida, they were at the end of the line. Carolina, everyone was like, God, Carolina can do this.
Starting point is 00:25:45 They met Florida, they're at the end of the line. For someone, it's gonna be the end of the line. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know if, I don't think it's gonna be blow for blow where it's like win, win, it's like down to a game seven. I think the trend that's happened in the playoffs is gonna continue into the finals
Starting point is 00:26:02 where one team's got it, the other doesn't, and it's like, you're at the end of the line. And the most likely culprit of that would be Florida because three years in a row in a cup final run out of gas. You know, like that that makes sense. I don't even know if you can say that. Like that would have happened by now. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:26:19 Out of gas. I agree with you. You had Tampa in 22. They I think they met Vegas and it was like I think Vegas won in five and They ran into injuries in Florida seems relatively healthy I'm not I'm not predicting that I'm just I I'm the other way and the only reason being is I think there's a few moves that they've made that have kind of Reinvigorated vigorated them. I keep in mind Ekblad like he got 20 games off
Starting point is 00:26:42 That was his own doing, all of that. Seth Jones, this guy looks like a rock star. 63, you could argue that Florida doesn't make it through Toronto if 63 doesn't do what he does. He's been great, yep. So both teams are different. And you can hear Paul Maurice, Chris Knoblock, both talking about the difference between last year and this year. Both teams are different and you can hear Paul Maurice Chris Knobloch both talking about the difference between last year and this year
Starting point is 00:27:07 Both teams are differently. Yes. There's the core is still there But the support group, you know last year of Andrew Kane was banged up, you know, they you look at it There there were different things that that the teams were built a little bit differently. I think this is gonna be a great series I I I disagree. I think it's going to go the full distance and it could be a heavyweight fight, but you're right. Sometimes the buildup and then it's like, somebody wins in five. They don't have it. We thought that last year though, right? When Florida was up three nothing, it's like, this is done. Next thing you know, it's game seven. So right. I think both teams have
Starting point is 00:27:46 That willpower like I obviously Edmonton can't play with fire like that again No, you go down all three again, then you're I think that's enough. But Yeah, they're they're both they're both playing as well as anyone I can recall and you know recent memory In terms of peaking going into the Stanley Cup final. They both look great. I saw Rashad say that McDavid left practice there early a little yesterday. I didn't see an update if they skated today or not. Well, Nablack said afterwards, nothing to worry about.
Starting point is 00:28:19 He'll be fine for game one. So I know exactly. But you know you get an up... I don't even know if you get anything at this time of year anyway. But it is strange that the rest of the team skated and he went out for a twirl, I guess, spoke with the training staff and left. And, you know, that would suggest something's going on. But he's gonna play, you know, he's right, he's gonna
Starting point is 00:28:41 play. I would I would guess just precaution like uh... there we've there would be little tidbits out there that something was up if that was a bigger story right i would say that would just be precaution and why wouldn't you at this you guys say it all the time and who cares if he doesn't put a state now in the beginning of game one it doesn't matter is ready to play uh... they're prepared for each other
Starting point is 00:29:05 so not blocking about half an hour i i have a couple of legacy list so i want to get to today you guys tell me if you're the mood yes now we could do it in about an hour now is okay i i got a couple of legacy bangers here okay on both sides and i a lot of the names i think you guys would naturally predict you might find the order a little bit off be here do you want to start with with Edmonton or Florida you guys make the call go with Edmonton go that means all right so this is what I believe the rankings for the
Starting point is 00:29:31 egg Edmonton legacy building if they win a cup all right so if the oil let's presume the cool the oil is when a cop these are my five players five people within the organization that would boost their legacies the most all right with Edmonton number five this might surprise you guys a little bit. I have Corey Perry at five. Interesting. I have Perry at five. He has been in five of the last six cup finals.
Starting point is 00:29:54 He has not won any of them. He's lost every single one. Dallas, Montreal, Tampa, Edmonton last year, and now this is his fifth. He won in 07 with Anaheim. He was very young him and Gatslaf that was still Solani and Prongs and Niedermeyer and Shiger I believe was Annette and you know that was about the elder statesman of the game and they were the younger guys on the way up. This is at the end of his career. He's won a Memorial Cup, shout out to the London Knights,
Starting point is 00:30:23 they just did it again. He was a great, great junior player, world junior winner, all that kind of stuff. If Perry is a part of this, and he's going to be now, I believe, because Hyman's, even if Hyman was healthy, he'd still be playing. But the idea that he's 40 in his fifth cup final in six years, and he finally, he gets the one one that makes that stat pop that much more. I have Corey Perry at five. Evan Bouchard at four. So this is one where I'm going to have to own this because I made a comment I would say about a month and a half ago where when he was swimming against LA I said emphatically he'll never play for Canada because of the way he plays in these games dude He might be running their power play the way he keeps wrote like he's so good last year
Starting point is 00:31:10 Yeah, McCart that's the issue is McCarr is always gonna be McCarr and he's not he's not surpassing McCarr But as a number one defenseman to play the amount of minutes to get back to a cup final and win it You know it would continue with the theme that you have to have one, right? You basically have to have a number one defenseman. He is that guy. At home back is significant. That helps him that much more. But he's a young guy.
Starting point is 00:31:34 They're gonna pay him a fortune. And all of a sudden you're a number one defenseman on a cup team and you're what, 22 years old? 23 years old? I got Bouchard at four. Well think about the importance of that guy. Like if they want to start screwing around on the he would just be like
Starting point is 00:31:48 good luck i'll be sitting at home when you want to pay me with the minutes i play the production i'm basically the third head of this monster so what do you want to do about it that's i think i know what i'm getting at is that what would be deterrents mcdavid and dry subtle clearly and then for a while now it's been okay. Is that comb better? Is it is it Hyman? That's the third guy's a Nugent Hopkins What about the goalie a Bouchard keeps doing what he's been doing and he's been brilliant and continues it on the biggest stage
Starting point is 00:32:16 I think that's what he would establish. It's fair. Yeah. Okay. This this is where the order May surprise you a little bit at three i have leon dry settle at three your dries out a little three i know who's at two can i say who's at two right now but go ahead to steward skinner now it's not kate i have a three number three is leon dry settle now this we all know who number one is going to be yeah you know i can let that secret
Starting point is 00:32:42 out of the bag dry saddle as a number two guy, it's interesting these debates that we've had forever. Is it Malkin? Is it Messier? Is it Jagger or Francis back in the early 90s? You can look at all these other, these great, great teams where there was that superstar guy at the top. Every league's got it. Scottie Pippen, you can go down the list. Dry-Seidel dry side of winning in performing the ways performing and i still think he's in the cons might conversation right doesn't he have to be with the numbers he continues to put up with the
Starting point is 00:33:11 is a great cup final which shock anyone if you want the cons might no not a doctor and it feels like mcdavid's in the driver's seat right now but i think try settles right shotgun with them uh... but i i have dry settle at three in the reason i have that is because that to actually have chris not block it too you know that the in the reason i say that is because this is a guy who was
Starting point is 00:33:32 hired it was that's mcdavid's junior coach was jeff jackson doing here this guy has been in the league like i said earlier for eighteen months yeah it is in a second cup final and he could win it and beat Paul Maurice and that team over there which is the Florida Panthers like that immediately makes you
Starting point is 00:33:54 an NHL coach for the next what 25 years it doesn't mean you're an Edmonton. Think of the great coaches that haven't been to a final exactly. A coach for a long time and this guy's doing it in Back-to-back years back-to-back years And he's a bit of a savant like my understanding is that you know you look at it like he He tweaks like you you know he's got his lines And then the game starts and it's like blender time like hey I'm gonna you know find a shift here find like he coaches like he's back there coaching and I love his demeanor
Starting point is 00:34:25 I don't think we've seen in the 18 months him Lose his you know what like he just he's I think he's been animated a few times, but he's incredibly poised Incredibly and you know I think that kind of That mixes for that team. They're a veteran team. they don't need a guy back there screaming and yelling and you know, I love what he does though Jamie, like he almost like, it's almost like he watches the first 10 to 15 minutes, he gets a he gets a read on who's going and what different combinations might work if he needs something from somebody else and I like it because there's basically after the first 10 or 15, there's no lines like he'll just throw out combinations
Starting point is 00:35:06 And it's got to work you're in the league You should be smart enough to realize where people are gonna be read off each other and he trusts his players to go out There and make it work. It doesn't matter the combination Fascinating way to come yeah Danny listen he's got the luxury of McDavid and dry subtle, but he finds Them shifts he finds them together a lot, like in different areas of the game. Even with leads, we saw that a lot in the last series.
Starting point is 00:35:30 And what he does is his attitude is go close it. You know, we're up 2-1 in this game or 3-1. Put them together and go end it. Make it 4-1. And I like that attitude in his approach. And then I have caught a McDavid clearly at number one. I mean, what else can you say about what this guy has done throughout his career? He's into his 10th season.
Starting point is 00:35:52 I think it was Ray that said, Ray Ferraro said last week, if he gets a cup, wins a Conns might, then he's just that much closer to being known as the greatest player of all time. Yeah. I do appreciate the comment, but I don't know. Whenever you get to the comment of the greatest player of all time, like, man, are we just discarding what Gretzky did as far as the amount of points? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Is it Connor because he's so much faster? I don't know. To say he's the greatest of all time with what Gretzky did, like points wise and championships wise, that's a tough one. So be- It's very difficult to do, right? Yeah, it's like, okay, cause he has one cup now,
Starting point is 00:36:36 he's the greatest player of all time. I think it's a bit of a, it's a bit of a, it's a big one. It's a big slide on the greatest player to ever play, man. Like, I don't know. Agreed. And I think what he is is still, you know, he's got another 10 years to continue to build out the word of legacy.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Like you said, Hayes, but if he gets one this, you know, and keep in mind it's 50%. I think this is a 50-50 coin toss for this series. If he gets one, he's got an opportunity for gold within what eight eight months Right, you know, so now now you start looking that's the type of stuff where you know continues and he's got all the hardware the hardware is the hardware and and But in the end it is I I look at it wins help but you know legacy It's hard for me era adjusted because you know, I you know legacy it's hard for me era adjusted because you know I Dominic has it because you know could play in today's game
Starting point is 00:37:30 I look at he and back then he would have got a shout out every night where goalies weren't wearing masks and they didn't Butterfly back then like it's just different, but you're right. Oh, I think it's tough to just look past Gretzky and go Alright like McDavid He's certainly the most evolved and he's on the pathway to being the greatest player of all time, but he's got work to do, like a lot of work to do. Exactly, but you gotta win, you have to,
Starting point is 00:37:54 like to even open the conversation. And I think it'd be great for the sport, the idea that he could be pursuing it. Now it's always subjective, clearly. I mean, there's a lot of people that, like I'm not convinced, in fact, I would say emphatically right now, he's not better than Mario Lemieux.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Like Lemieux was, I think people, I don't know if people lose sight, like that guy was insane what he was doing. He was insane. Insane how he would play the game, and his size, and he won two cups, and he won golds, and all that, but that's what you're chasing,
Starting point is 00:38:22 but I think it's good for your sport if it becomes available, right? I don't think it's ever good if it's just no Babe Ruth is the greatest ever no one else can touch it no Wayne Gretzky no like you want to have the opportunity to discuss other players in every era you know playing at that level and I think if McDavid can win when it comes might maybe win a gold next year that certainly the conversations open you can have i would still stick with gretsky at this point i think i would stick with the new
Starting point is 00:38:51 at this point but he's he's in that conversation for sure so they go to recap legacy building winners ineditive mcdavid one knob like to dry settle three bush are four perry five will come back i got a five pack in Florida that you guys can throw around and I'm sure agree with some of it, disagree with it. We have Chris Knobloch coming up in about 20 minutes. Jays are off today, they're back in action tomorrow against
Starting point is 00:39:15 Philly. They've won five in a row. We'll get into that. The RBC Canadian Open this week. I was listening to First Up this morning, they sounded great up there at the course. Golf Talk Canada is there all week. We're going to be there Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. And Scotty Sheffler does it again yesterday at the memorial. We'll get into Scotty and how well he's playing and how you talk about a coin flip. It's basically a coin flip. He's going to win any tournament the guy plays it. It's incredible the way this guy plays golf. You think CBS might want to put Jack in the booth permanently? Man, he was sharp this weekend
Starting point is 00:39:47 And he had some comments like he is giving you know what's on on Thursday They were doing a walk and talk and Jack was in the background He goes I can't stand when you guys do this and everyone was like what the hell are you talking about? It was why you talk I hate when you guys do this? And I don't know what the guy's name was but he was like oh okay well thanks Jack and it was so awkward. It was. My read on that is he thinks that shouldn't happen at big tournaments. No I don't think he should. He doesn't like it period. I don't think he likes it period. Again again, it's There's a generational gap here
Starting point is 00:40:26 Golf is trying to get into the modern times. I know but it's just like the player interviews after periods You're not gonna get anything but it's like I got to hit a bunch of greens and try to roll the rock It's like thanks a lot. Generally speaking. There's not much to it. I get it, but I also think at his tournament He's like leaving them alone. I think it looks hacky or something like that. Oh there won't be one next year I'll guarantee you if old Jack's still around there is not a walk and talk at the memorial. That message I think might have been sent right passive aggressively. Alright Chris Knobloch in 20 overdrive continues TSN 1050 and on YouTube live. Alright Chris Knobloch of the Edmonton Oilers in about 15 minutes. Kolyakovic coming up to corroborate 64 on Thursday up at TPC, Toronto and
Starting point is 00:41:10 We're chugging towards the RBC Canadian Open on Thursday So we'll get into that more this afternoon. We'll look back on Scottie Scheffler and his weekend the Jays have won five in a row Shout out to the London Knights again for winning the Memorial Cup Incredible to see that was great. What a two years that group of players had. Not just Easton Cowan because our boy Struddy was like, oh, they're going to have a press conference about Easton Cowan today. Struddy's banned. We might have to ban Struddy. He's going to be so unbearable if the others win. Oh man, if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup, will Struddy get an alumni ring?
Starting point is 00:41:51 I don't know. I don't know if Edmonton's like Toronto where it'd be Legends Row and the row would be right to him. I would be asking. I would make my own. If there wasn't alumni rings, I would make my own alumni ring. No, you wouldn't. You'd be embarrassed to do that'd be embarrassed to do that no I would not be embarrassed whatsoever if there was a line alumni version of a Stanley Cup ring I would all you know I
Starting point is 00:42:13 think that'd be cool man why not I don't team you love the team you play yeah it's like it was obviously it's a small I thought about getting so should I get a Panthers alumni I played for the Panthers in 06 should I get a if you love the life you're like if you love the team I thought about getting like a 67 ring like remade like getting my jeweler to remake a 67 Stanley Cup ring like the leaf 67 yeah like the 67 cup ring what would the purpose of that be though I don't know I don know. I don't you just never know when they're gonna win a cup So it's like I'm gonna have some history What are you gonna if somebody walks up to you beautiful ring? Yeah, yeah, I made it had it made
Starting point is 00:42:57 67 do my own thing. I don't I don't deal with those questions. Yeah I'd be curious what a cup ring back in 67 even looks like. Did they have them back in the cigar ring? Yeah, it's great. It's obvious. Yeah, it's not like these rings today. It's not these monsters. It's like, pull a pick up, Doogie.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Get one to Joe from the bridge and we'll show it later. Okay. I think I've seen their gold, right? And they're like, yeah. Yeah, I think I've seen. There's like a blue diamond on top. Classy. Yeah, they're classy.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Let's get the odog a 67 leaf Cup ring replica just stop it like You know what it started I have no idea But it started with you the guy that you were talking about The guy that you swore at in the four o'clock is that the Canadian award winner? Yes, because I believe he was the guy that you swore at in the four o'clock early. Who's that? The Canadian Screen Award winner? Yes, because I believe he was the guy that, you know, got the information. I just can't believe guys would be digging around saying, there's just no way he did that.
Starting point is 00:43:53 I want to see a scorecard. I want to see there's video. It's just like, come on. It is greasy behavior, I'll admit. And I feel I want to bask in the glory of 64. I want to because like when you hit your hole in one, you called me and I loved hearing the whole story. What hole was it on?
Starting point is 00:44:10 What club did you hit? How did it go in? Did it one bounce? Did it roll? Same thing with 64. I would love all the details because I love that course. I love the course. I love to hear it.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Now I will say I don't think you would care to hear my story. My career round would be a 74. If I shot a 74 at Osprey, I don't think you would care to hear my story My career round would be a 74 if I shot a 74 to Osprey. I don't think you would care I think you'd probably just say oh, yeah, that's kind of cool and secretly be like this guy sucks and thinks 74 74 I would be all in on it. It's just there's more of a spotlight on 64 than 74 Yes, obviously people don't shoot 64 every day at all. 64 is a class. Do you think, you know what we should do on Thursday, 64 is the tracker. Do you think anyone will beat your 64 on Thursday at the Canadian Open?
Starting point is 00:44:57 I do and I also think that the rink hole is going to be a lot of fun. I think you're going to see four or five holes in one. Really? Really. I hope so. I hope a couple of them. In years past, I think the rink hole has been like 178 yards playing almost up to 200 if they move a tee back or a flag. I think this thing is going to be playing 140 yards downhill with funneling and sloping towards pins. My number is four or five. Really? Oh yeah, you put a wedge in these guys' hands with those pin positions and the way they can move it off of mounds and stuff.
Starting point is 00:45:30 Four to five, maybe more. Wow, no. I don't think you want to see that many at a whole. I think you're, because remember, like... Okay, I'll tone it down a bit, possibly, we'll say two or three. Two. That would would be personally. I think that would be phenomenal Yeah, I really get one on Sunday even great But I'm telling you guys these guys were short short irons in their hand on a downhill par three They're gonna do some damage right and I'm sure they're gonna move the blocks around I would think you know, I'll bet you a couple days that'll play 170 and then they might move because that's what they do I don't even think it can go to 170.
Starting point is 00:46:05 There's no room for 170. I don't even think 170 is an option. We're talking nine iron, eight iron max distance. Well, then for me that's an action hole. I think that's what it's going to be. There's going to be a ton of action, man. I like that. I like that because you know what?
Starting point is 00:46:21 Maybe I wasn't even there. I guess there's all kinds of infractions. What did you shoot on 14? The wrink hole. Did you birdie that hole? Yeah I did. I made it two. And then the next hole I made a three. Birdie. And the hole before that I made a four. Birdie. Okay. I love it. I finished my day three in a row. I support it greatly. 64. Carlo Colliacovo coming up at 6 o'clock. He was there He witnessed that we're tracking down Steven Lorenz Scott Lotton
Starting point is 00:46:49 Everyone's got to come on here and tell us about 64 at Osprey exactly Chris Knobla coming up I still have my top five for Florida if they win a cup the legacy building list we'll get to that around 530 overdrive continues TSN 1050 and on TSN to 530 overdrive continues TSN 1050 and on TSN 2.
