Boston already making deals, and it sounds like Jalen Brown's available, Derrick White could be available. Could the Raptors kick tires on them? Would they be willing to trade the ninth pick? And what else could possibly happen in the next week and a half with the Raptors kick tires on them would they be willing to trade the ninth pick and what else could possibly happen in the next week and a half with the Raptors? It would bug me if I was a Celtics fan like it's like okay you want a championship and then why you're gonna start from ground zero again yeah and I know Tatum's not gonna play next year but like can't you kind

of maybe keep it together? Yeah I mean Jalen Brown you know finals MVP studs like it's you know they obviously a top three pick they paid him he got all Maybe keep it together. But if you're moving on Portsingas and White and you've moved off a bunch of guys already, it appears if that's kind of what they're basically suggesting. We're just going to bottom out for a year, reset, Tatum comes back and then they'll build

from there. But Josh Lewenberg coming up in a moment. And I guess Tatum would be the guy, kind of the internal cap kind of guy. You have a team you want to reference. I've got two. One is kind of going to fall under your category of like fan-friendly PR, all of that. And one is I think we could probably debate, but the fan-friendly PR one is Pittsburgh, 87, right?

Now if he was superstitious and his number was 99, he'd be making 9.9, right? Like, but you look at Pittsburgh, now again, let's cap era era all other adjust for what it was This guy's made eight point seven for as long as I can remember And like so you're the way they built their team is like well that guy makes eight point seven, okay, Malcolm You've got to be right there. Everybody else kind of had the Tang If his number was ten then everybody would be ten and if he wanted to milk as much as he could, he can't.

So that falls under the PR friendly scenario. The other one that I kind of thought was hiding in plain sight for many years was Boston. Because it went back to Ray Bork in the years. And Sin didn't want to pay these guys. And Bork is the top. But it was Bergeron Chara, all of those guys were on you know team friendly everyone just kind of

was like okay this is what this guy makes this is where it comes right in under beneath under you know right under and below that guy yeah the only guy blew through it was Pasternak recently at 11-6 and eventually he's like that's enough and then McEvoy and they had to change the way they did business and that speaks to what I was talking about like the modern athlete now. Right. You know a lot of and now I think it's a coincidence but look where Boston is. You know now they're like bottomed out. They're like we got to reset a lot of different things because they lost that. They lost what they had which was really their soul in many ways because all the players were like we're here to win and we love being a Bruin and then you know

just kind of accepted around there it's like okay this is the the culture they built this is the what they pay their players this is what you want to be a part of the program this is what it looks like now that's kind of I get falls inconsistent what we're talking about with Florida's got that going now or a boat to both Florida teams to know you know those guys make money but it's you know they probably could have asked for more and in the end the yes the tax situation but it's also if their top players are making nine and a half then you fall in

below nine and a half if you're not their top player that's really what it is yeah and they all win like these are teams that have consistently won like that's the thing you would think GM's kind of would get that like it's yeah and maybe if you're starting from scratch now it can't be under 10 million maybe it's got to be under 11 or 11 5 whatever whatever it is and there are exceptions clearly but you know I just it Florida's won Tampa's won Boston was consistently great for 15 years well I thought I thought it even Colorado Colorado is another example 12.6. That's the limit now. Now, McCarr will likely will go over that. I would say and I think they'll make

the exception and I think McKinnon will be the first one to say yes, you should write but ranting and wasn't getting over that. Right. There was no way that's why ranting and laugh because or they I think moved on from them because it was like well, this is what McKinnon gets and gets in this way it goes uh... just uh... i'd one more thing on the tomorrow's thing too which i think is interesting that what you will get to it later but it just i i've got a he could get more money and another organization and there will be others

and i'll give you an example of one there are a few let's get to work out he's in the two bars i don't know if about it to that we get jerry's coming up best but later in the hour jays in action but the rafters are picking night tonight we know cooper flags gonna go first uh... and then you know dylan harper likely go second edge com goes third and all hell could break loose

including the idea that picks will be traded uh... here's a rafters reporter josh Lewenberg to set the scene on the draft tonight. Jay Lou, which way are you leaning here? Do you think the Raptors keep the pick at nine or do you think they could flip it between now and then? Yeah, I think they keep it. I mean, look, if you've been taking in trade rumors over the last few weeks, you've definitely heard the Raptors name come up and I mean even just talking to people around the league They confirm what's been widely reported in that the ninth overall pick is believed to be available The Raptors are keeping their options open. They could move up. They could move down They could move out of the draft or out of the first round altogether for the right package

But for what it's worth I mean that's kind of the mentality that they have at this time every year and in 12 years at the helm, Masai Ujiri has never traded a first-round pick between the end of the season and the draft. And I mean look, he's a scout at heart. That's how he got his start in the league. And this is the time of the year that really excites him and it should. I mean the Raptors have a great track record in the draft so I don't expect them to move it unless a really interesting opportunity opens up. I think they use it and I think they use it on a big. I mean that's their biggest area of need right now and their draft philosophy is always draft the best player available but wouldn't it

be the perfect storm if the guy that happens to be at the top of the board at nine also happens to address their biggest need? And you mentioned the draft landscape. It's a much better draft than last year. I think a lot of that has to do with the strength of prospect at the top. But I do think there is a level of depth in this draft that we didn't see last year.

And so much of that is these really quality, interesting bigs that are available in the mid to late lottery. So I think there's a number of different directions the Raptors could go with a big, assuming they go down that route. And it'll be interesting to see like, what's their, what's the risk tolerance

and how much patience do they have? Because I look at a few of these guys, we can talk about names. There are a few specifically that jump out to me that are more NBA ready guys that can maybe step in and contribute right away but we also know that the side I mean he's been pining for the Giannis player the dice roll the guy that either works out or he doesn't obviously they end up on the wrong side of that with Bruno Caboclo back a decade ago but there are a few of those dice

rolls a few of those high-risk high, high reward bigs that are out there as well. And I'd be interested to see like, are they willing to take a shot at one of those guys? Jay Lou, I saw a tweet and I don't know if it was from you, but I just want to know what the, is it just phishing from executives? It was like teams sniffing around the wraps picket nine, like what the hell does that even mean? Yeah so like I mean it goes back to what I was saying earlier where like this is the time of year where there's a lot of noise and this is the time of the year where we've gotten used to hearing the

Raptors in almost everything kind of feels like the Jays right like always a bridesmaid never a bride they're in on everything they never they never get anybody but I think there's a couple things to it. One is that they've got this reputation around the league because they're generally in the mix whenever these star players become available. They're an easy team to use as leverage. And I think we saw a lot of that with Phoenix as they were trying to squeeze more out of Houston for Durant. Yeah, I mean, the Raptors are interested, the Raptors are interested. The Raptors are willing to give up this and that.

And all of a sudden Houston's willing to offer a little bit more. So I think there is that. But where there's smoke, there's also fire. And the Raptors, like they, the sense is they want to do something, right? Like they, they're clearly highly motivated to turn this thing around quickly, they're clearly highly motivated to get back into the playoffs, and they clearly sense a window of opportunity in this wide-open Eastern Conference that continues to take hits, right? Like, Caidam goes down, and then Lillard goes down, and Halliburton goes down, so they want to do something. I think part of them is kind of just telling

themselves well they've already got this big addition that they're gonna add to the core this year when Ingram comes back and I mean that's why they made the move when they did is to get ahead of the the chaos that is the NBA offseason and if he's healthy and if he plays and if he plays well then that will be an addition of sorts but I think they are active in terms of looking around and trying to figure out how they can upgrade this roster from here because they do want to Make a big jump this year With Josh Lewenberg ahead of the NBA draft tonight rappers picking ninth and you know the rumors you're right The rappers seemingly are connected to to all of them and I've seen today and I'm sure you've seen

You know the the Boston Celtics are open for business and the Raptors are connected to Jalen Brown and connected to Derek White. Could you picture that being the scenario like a trade within the division? Could Messiah kick tires on on the Celtics and if so you know which of those two players would make more sense? I think Boston was open for business I think they're done like the only reason they were looking to make moves and this is gonna happen even before the tatum injury is I mean this new CBA has kind of put the clamps on a lot of teams

that are hovering around or over the second apron they needed to get under it they've already done that now with the trades for setting out Drew Holliday and Chris Dapp's Poor Zingus. I don't think it's something that they wanted to do but it's something they had to do and they feel like they've done a fairly good job in doing it but I think they're done. I think they're looking ahead to, Tatum gets back in a year from now or whatever it is and they still need their core pieces and I think white and brown are young enough and good enough to be their core pieces so I don't think that that's the next guy the next big fish that everyone's

going to be talking about in the league I mean surely teams are calling asking but I'm not sure who that guy is to be honest now that Durant is off the board and well I think the Yanis pipe dream is still kind of alive in the minds of a lot of people and a lot of teams, we've seen and heard nothing to believe that he's actually out there. So I don't know, who is it? Like at one point it seemed like Trey Young, maybe Atlanta makes him available, but they just traded for Perzingis and like a lot of teams that I've just met in Raptors being one of them, they probably think, okay, well we've got a real shot in the Eastern Conference now. I mean, Sacramento is probably open for

business, but Damante-Sibonis is a weird fit. The Raptors like Pertle. I've heard they want to extend Pertle this summer. So it's probably not Sibonis. It's probably not Damar de Rosen, as fun as that would be. I don't know who it is, but it's the NBA. So there's always the next guy. We didn't know that Luca Doncic was available until he was available and traded. I don't know who it is, but it's the NBA, so there's always the next guy. We didn't know that Luka Doncic was available until he was available and traded. I don't think we knew that Desmond Bain was out there until he was out there. So I'm sure somebody's going to pop up and I'll bet the Raptors are one of the three or four names that we hear are in the mix. I just, unless it's somebody that really makes sense here, are you, if you're the Raptors,

putting together a Desmond Bain type package of three, four, five unprotected picks? That's how the last two NBA champions were created. OKC and Boston both built their teams off of another team's desperation in giving up all of those unprotected picks. And I just don't think you want to be on the wrong side of that. So yeah, like they would have loved to have to rent but at a bargain for pennies on the dollar, they weren't offering anything close to what it would have taken to get it done. Demar coming back guys, I love that idea. Demar, bring him back.

Yeah, another wing kind of mid-range, him him and RJ Barry can just kind of live out there and do their thing With Josh Lumenberg and it's interesting You know what? I guess you're reporting here is that they might be looking at extending portal and I'm curious how that matches with what you think They could do with that knife pick. We said you think they're gonna go with a big does that mean a center in particular?

Front core like what are we talking a power for it a guy that'll play the four you know shooting is still a priority I would think for this team is it not Jayler like I know Ingram's gonna be a guy that can score but that's been an issue they've had for the last few years like who's gonna shoot yeah I mean the thing about this draft or drafts in general especially once you get down to like the mid lottery ranges there are a lot of holes in a lot of these guys games like I see a lot to like about a lot of them and this is what I was saying about Messiah this time of the year is like you fall in love with these guys you talk yourself into them but I mean even just doing some like drafts cramming in the

last few days and you're looking at all the three-point percentage, especially from the bigs, and it's like 15%, 20%, 25% and yeah, I mean, there aren't a lot of guys that check off all of the boxes. I mean, Danny Wolf is like one of the few bigs in this draft that are very skilled, has the size, can shoot a bit, and so maybe he's their guy, but what he gives you in size and skill, I think he's probably lacking in athleticism and maybe upside. And then you look on the other end of the spectrum and like there are these French bigs that I've heard the Raptors tied to Noah Asange quite a bit over the last few days. And he's a guy you look at him and he looks like Giannis from 2013, long and gangly but he also looks like Bruno Caboclo from 2014. That's kind of how it goes with those types of prospects.

Kyra's Kyra Warden, they can't shoot. So I think the reality is like, yes, they need a big, yes, they probably want a big, but they're not drafting anyone at ninth overall, who's certainly not going to replace Pertle, but you might not get anyone at ninth overall that you could even confidently plug into the backup center spot. This might be somebody, especially if it's a Sangay or even Molotov from Duke. A lot of people like him, seven footer, rim protector, and certainly a guy that fits the profile of people that the Raptors have been interested in in the past, but he's 18 years old. Like, can you confidently say that he's ready to play 15, 20 minutes a game at the NBA level? So you're probably drafting a project here. There are some guys that are a

little bit more NBA ready, but I think this is a guy that if you really want to address the center position, you've got to do it in free agency or by a trade this is going to be another guy at the back end of the roster of maybe the back into the rotation if you're lucky pick nine for the rappers tonight we know dallas and cooper flag one we think we know the next two packs and then all hell could break break loose we got the champs pick a multiple times tonight as well as the city which is wild uh... enjoy josh will do it again soon thank you for this. They've got another kid that they drafted last year who's a European guard who they I think is gonna play for them this year that apparently is outstanding. And you know, I just at some point I would

think you bundle picks and go out and get some help because you already won your championship You know your team's capable of winning, right? Like if they have the winning pedigree add a piece or two that you know We'll play next year and go and try to win another one But you know, who am I to question the greatness of Sam Presti and the Oklahoma City Thunder? I give a ton of credit to Cooper Flag because he has committed to the North Carolina salad.

So I'm of the same belief if he resigns with the Leafs, and it does still sound like that's likely to happen i i would have to believe that's that's it

you know like it's a commitment from both parties that you're here and that you're not planning on playing anywhere else because if he was open to the idea plan anywhere else that i think we would see it on july first because then you would open the up or the door to more money more to it may be a better winning situation because clarify that to the least are really good team but they haven't won anything.

So yeah, I'm going to say 67%. A little bit higher. Again, I guess there's a chance to sign a deal and then in two years the Leafs are like, you've got to go. We've got to move on from you and maybe play somewhere else. But I would think if he resign signed reassigned series probably getting a full no move and note that may be a part of the sticking point too is the leaf so like listen we can't give you full protection on everything too right it'll

be demanded as a UFA I get it I get it and he's not every player asked for it every player demands it I'm sure he will get it some of it for sure but i don't know i'll say sixty seven percent i do feel like we have an answer on that are pretty close to it within the next week right jerry what else do you have science

I understand what you're saying that by noon on the 1st a lot of deals are going to pour out immediately but that's always been the case.

Do you think we're going to know on Mitch Marner? I'm not convinced we know on July 1st at noon where Mitch Marner is going to play. I think we might. Like, what if Brad Marshan goes back to Boston? What if they want to bring him back? Could be out there. Although, they didn't want to pay him.

Nobody's talked about that. They didn't want to pay him $4 million, not alone $8. Well, I'm just saying, maybe there was a wink-wink at the deadline and going, you know, we'll give you an opportunity because it sounds like he wanted to go to Florida and that was it and they made that deal happen, right? So Boston gets a first rounder from Florida back and maybe he goes back there. I don't think so.

That would be surprising though at this point. Like not shocking, but... He was their captain. It's an element of surprise. The reason why, Bester is 29 years old and he has, yes he's only scored 40 once, but he is, for me I think he's probably a 30 goal scorer. What does that get you? As a free agent and a team that really covets you.

I think he's going to get something with an 8 and oh it'll be high sevens or eight. I'm like 30% it feels like a long-term deal for him like it feels like a 7 by 7 7 by 75 Brock Besser? Yeah for Besser yeah. This is what I understand guys this is what I don't understand and this is why I think GMs have serious problems. How does one GM three months ago say, he would be shocked at the offers that were out there

for Brock Besser? And then another guy says, I'm giving him seven by seven. How do you go from one extreme to the other? Well, I understand what you're saying. It is difficult to connect the dots. Now, what I would say is there's a limited market for that guy at the trade deadline. Right. In other words, Utah and Anaheim aren't trading for him.

Why would you trade for a rental? I get it. But now you have money to spend on July. Chicago's not trading for him, but that doesn't mean they won't offer him $8 million or something. They might. There are teams out there that have to spend. There are a lot of teams with the cap going up that have to spend money. And they want to get better.

And that's the biggest thing. You're right. You're going to overpay it at free agency. And Jamie, that must be a luxury for a player. If you're a player that a team needs to spend and that's basically the crux of your contract, like that is what a luxury that my it's all it is but it's not that it's a good point it is it's like we don't exactly love you but we gotta spend this money so here we are

at the site what's up skates it's insulting but listen here's imagine crying in your basement saying you've got the old not paid because they had to they would hear it raise it that clearly, but my reaction might be that. Here's an example, and we love him and he's a class person. Nick Foligno, Chicago signed him to what, two years at 4.5. He probably could have signed for 2 million, but Chicago needed to spend some money and they went and said, okay, we We're gonna give you more to come You know the situation you're gonna be a good leader

So he got hazard pay probably wasn't worth four and a half at the time he gets a salary cap I remember exactly it was a one minute one year four million dollar deal for Corey Perry, so that's Exactly what you're saying Brian to overpay to bring guys into a situation. I could see Chicago going, I got 8 million for you, Brock Besser, because we need to get better. And you're 29 years old and you're not a 37 year old. Hey, we need to surround these guys with just veteran like that. He's a good player. He's a shooter. He's a scorer.
