Starting point is 00:00:30 Hour 2 Overdrive continues powered by Fandu. We're live in Winnipeg. There it is, the Grey Cup. The Great Cup is in the house. Love it. We have royalty in the house. Look at that esteemed gentleman with the light on his head right behind the Great Cup. We love it. He loves it.
Starting point is 00:00:45 The goal sirens are going off, and we are in business. We are in business in Winne Vegas, Winnevegas, and Luke Wilson has joined us around the table. Nice. What's happening, Lukey boy? How are we doing? I'm fired up. I got in town in the airport. support was buzzing. And like a lot of fans
Starting point is 00:01:02 from different spots. Didn't it feel like home when you stepped off the bird? I said it felt like home. I love it. Fresh air. I do. I know. It's going to be a big night tonight too. Big night. You're right. Award show. The award show is going tonight and you're right, man. We said it too. Like right when you got here, noodles was coming from Edmonton. We're coming from Toronto. There's people from Ottawa, Montreal on our bird. Obviously there's a lot of Argo fans that are coming out. Yeah. Like it's amazing how
Starting point is 00:01:27 all nine fan bases and everyone in between just kind of connect and you make the call year after year you have no idea who's going to play in the game yeah now we know it's montreal against saskatchewan but it's an incredibly cool vibe out here it was and on it again i've been here for four or five hours but you know sometimes you land in a city and you're like man there's kind of like a electric atmosphere brewing yeah winnipeg's on fire right winnipeg is on fire winnipeg's on fire i got one question are we allowed to touch it you know the stanley cup like i've never touched the Stanley Cup in my life. Right. Me either. I don't care. I'll never win it or
Starting point is 00:02:00 whatever. I don't even know. I go to Buddy's parties who have it. Are you allowed to touch the Great Cup? I'm touching it. You're talking because it's superstitious. Superstitious. I wrote in a cab with the Stanley Cup to an event. I just happened to get in the last cab and the guy that was bringing the cup sat it in, put it a seatbelt on it
Starting point is 00:02:16 and everything. Yeah. And it was later in the afternoon and I had been having a nice time throughout the day. I took the seatbelt off the cup at the restaurant and I was going to grab it and put it over my head and he looked at me and said don't even think about it no one's allowed to put the cup over their head really and I was like are you serious he's like yeah put it down well what's the rule with the great cup yeah is there rules we can't do it all right we're not
Starting point is 00:02:40 touching that thing I touched it I'm sorry now I think we're allowed to touch it are we not oh you can't touch it you got white gloves throw some white gloves put them all put them on Philip Pritch OJ they're not going to fit his sausage hands here Those aren't going to fit. Take you right up in a glom's here. You got triple XL hands? They're as long as they are wide.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's fingers. They're like bricks. They've got potatoes for hands. All right. There you go. The Grey Cups in the house. No one's a lot of them. Well, I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:03:16 That's why I was asking. What's the rules? That makes sense. What's the rules? I would say, I don't know the exact rules with the Grey Cup. I would say that in general, Hockey's way more superstitious than football. The one that was weird for me was, like, don't step on the logo on the ground in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Yeah. Like, we had a big Seahawk logo in Seattle, and we met on the logo all the time. Like, it's on the ground. Right. Well, you know what's even crazier is players will yell at media for walking over the logo. But it's like, the media's like, oh, sorry, I'm just trying to walk around. Camerbts are walking across. What about Jersey on the ground?
Starting point is 00:03:52 No, no jersey on the ground. It's disrespectful. You don't just take your jersey off and throw it on the ground. Ours are taped to our pads. So, like, even for me after games, it would be, it's very hard to get that. You don't take the jersey off. It comes off with the pad. You just take it off and you hang it up.
Starting point is 00:04:06 You don't throw it on the ground. I would have to go to an equipment guy to, like, pull, like, it's like one arm, the other. And it, like, lands in the ground. There are superstitions. Now, what media people are doing in the National Hockey League is morning skate, they'll open the room. They put a carpet over the logo. So now you can walk on the carpet. This is right.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Is that a bit absurd? Imagine being the worst team in the league, and you're so worried about your logo on the floor. And the thing about the jerseys, I believe in no jersey on the ground, but it's okay to hang it on a grubby cart that you got from a grocery store. That's fine, but don't put it on the ground. Maybe that night you had the worst game of your career.
Starting point is 00:04:40 There's so many. Like, you're not paying homage to the jersey when you're out there playing necessarily. There's these unwritten rules. But like even Ray talks about, you go into Buffalo and the team service, or the guy who helps out in the dress room, he's making the gatorade and he's stirring it with his arm you can do that but you can't throw a jersey on the ground you don't absolutely you can't walk on the logo on the floor but the guy can stir it
Starting point is 00:05:02 and he's got hang nails and whatever else is going on there i would say that's not if we're at least in my experience there was none of that yeah it seems like that's all across hockey though nobody does a logo jersey on the ground you just don't do it but football doesn't have those type like i did i just touched you're not supposed to touch that right like that's the thing It was weird. NFL Canada brought the Lombardi Trophy to Toronto a couple of years ago, and I was doing an interview, and the guy there was like, the only person in here that's allowed to touch this trophy is Luke because you won it. And it was the first I'd ever heard of it.
Starting point is 00:05:34 That's cool. Did you get it for a day or something? No, so that was the worst part. The worst part was because I'm Canadian, you know, everybody at home was like, when's the parade going to be? When are you bringing the Lombardi trophy by? And I'm like, that's not, you don't get the trophy. Really?
Starting point is 00:05:48 Not even a replica? Like, I know the Stanley Cup has a. replica. Yeah, didn't get a, no one does. Is that because, I guess, history or because there's so many players and it's just too difficult to do? I think it's a combo of both.
Starting point is 00:05:58 And then the other weird one is, correct me for wrong, with the Stanley Cup, and it looks like from this, the Gray Cup, is the same trophy where, like, the Lombardi Wii won is sitting in the facility in a nice case in Seattle, and then next year they'll make a new one. Like, every year is a new
Starting point is 00:06:14 Lombardi trophy. The reason why the Stanley Cup has a chaperone is because, I believe it was like the oilers in the 80s. Like, I remember Graham Fehrer's my goalie partner. They would get, you would get the cup. Yeah. And they'd take it to the bar, and then Mark Messier would bring it to a strip club in St.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Albert called the Brewing Inn, and it would stay there for four days. And then the cup would go missing. Fierzy told me his story. He's like, me and Glenn Anderson were drinking one time. We forgot it. A cab driver had to bring the cup back to the rink because they were just like, they just left it there. That's amazing. So now it has a chaperone, and I mean, these parties, you hear these parties,
Starting point is 00:06:50 I believe the cup got injured. I don't know. It was injury, but it got... It was at Vinnie Pantera's house in Dallas when they won at 99, and they threw it out of the window, tried to put it in the pool, and they didn't make the pool. It bounced, and then so it dented or something. That's trouble.
Starting point is 00:07:06 That's going to cause a problem. Yeah, absolutely. So you didn't even get a replica or anything, like a replica this big, nothing. Nope. That sucks. Yeah, I agree. You can make your own. You get the ring.
Starting point is 00:07:15 I don't know if that is anything. Oh, the ring is obviously awesome, but you want to just have a replica trophy that sits in the backyard. Totally. That would be kind of fun, but no, nothing like that. Yeah. Maybe that should happen. And the owner gets it first, too, doesn't it? In the NFL, for sure. In the NFL, like the owner gets the trophy? Basically, every other sport, but hockey. Every other sport, like in baseball, they get it.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Totally. Larry O'Brien goes to the owner in the NBA. Like, they'll shift it off pretty quickly, but the owner's at the forefront of the win. I loved our owner. Maybe rest in peace, Paul Allen, Microsoft guy. So I didn't mind that. He was like one of the the coolest guys all time. I didn't think he actually knew anyone's name, and I got hurt one year,
Starting point is 00:07:54 and he came into the training room and was like, hey, Luke, whatever's the matter of their knee, don't worry, we'll make sure you have the best care. And I was like, whoa, Paul knows. You're like, can I get some stock? That's what I'm asking. Steve Palmer, you could have been Steve Balmer. Ballmer came by a facility a couple of times.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Really? Yeah. Is he a lunatic in person or what? He seemed, like, what you see on television was very, very similar to what he was like at our facility. And the Clippers are awful. this year. Bradley Biel's done for the year now. Like, he's getting sued by that tree
Starting point is 00:08:24 planting company. Like, it's a mess. Yeah, the fake company. I think that happens a lot more than people think. I love that, though. Under the table stuff? I'm sure it does. I love Steve Balmer. He's trying. She's trying, like, good on him. I am with you. It's one of the 15, I think he's the 15
Starting point is 00:08:40 most wealthiest person on the planet. He's one of them. Spend the money. Yeah, my favorite owner in sports right now is the Colts Hersey's daughter. You love the daughters. She's the best. The one on the sideline. She's the, and I'm telling you, that level of accountability, you're going to start seeing more people in the NFL do it.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Here's my concern with her quickly. Yeah. I think she believes in Danny Dimes. I wouldn't be so quick to do that. He's starting the old. Oh, Danny. I thought it was Indiana. Indiana, there's a scale now.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Danny Dimes or Indiana? He's driving back to New York. He's in like Pennsylvania right now. Yeah. Give me the skinny on this trophy. Who's got the advantage of? Who do you like? Honest, and I know Winnipeg's not going to love this,
Starting point is 00:09:24 but it's Saskatchewan for me right now. I know, I know, but here's where, I'll tell you what's getting a little funky for me. I'll tell you what's getting a little funky. I worry about the hamstring of Davis Alexander, and like, you never know, but these reports where it's like, oh, he's getting five treatments a day and that'll make him 100%. That's not a thing. Nobody gets five treatments at that.
Starting point is 00:09:44 At some point, you're like overusing the treatment ordeal, and it's not. So I do get nervous about that. But I think that the riders have been constructed as a very, very tough football team. And you love that. And I do think that, like, in a Great Cup game like this, that it's going to be the difference. And then the next thing I'll say is, and we'll see tonight, but I have a feeling that Hardrick their tackle is going to win linemen of the league. If A.J. Elect gets rolling, it's very, very hard to stop. Like, they have a very physical offensive line in a absolute bowling ball in A.J.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And that takes a lot of pressure of everything else. Right now, my early lean is Saskatchewan, but I got a big day with my iPad in the film tomorrow when I wake up. So I'm going to revisit that tomorrow. You're on the clock tomorrow, man. You guys are on the clock. We need a pad. So you're leaning Saskatchewan, but you might lean over to Montreal. It's very, very close to me.
Starting point is 00:10:41 And I think... Three and a half. The spreads three and a half. And to be honest, I think it should be tighter than that. I think if it wasn't his hamstring, it'd be really, like, almost a toss-up. But you've got to respect, like Jason Moss, the head guy in Montreal, and he's also their play caller, I find his game calling skills to be second and none. Like it's almost a work of art.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Everything plays into one another. And I'll just be, again, it's easy for me. I'm watching it on the film. I'm not in the moment. But I'll be like, oh, man, I wonder if he's setting something up. And like two plays later, the thing that I'm wondering, boom, they hit. And Davis-Alexander has got a very good feel for the deep ball. So he can really nickel and dine you.
Starting point is 00:11:16 He'll be patient. They do a lot of things where it's, hey, we've got a run-play call, but I'll do a wider-seer screen. Pick up six, pick up seven. And then all of a sudden it's like, boom, there's a 60-yard bomb over the top. So I have a lot of respect for that. But I think it's going to be a great game. Either way, I think it'll be very, very tight. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Well, and last week, both games were pretty low-scoring games. Yeah. This is one thing. I don't think low-scoring games are a bad thing. No, if it's a tight, they were both great finishes. And that's my thing. It's like, I would much rather see great. football, regardless of the score.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Hey, big defensive play, big stop, big moments. Then, like, oh, let's just get a huge shootout. Shootouts are fun. I'm not saying they're not. But, like, in the ranking, both games stunk. But if I go to the NFL for a second, the Thursday night game, Denver versus Oakland, or excuse me, in Las Vegas, was one of the worst games ever had to witness in my life. My eyes are bleeding.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Terrible. Now, the Monday Nighter was not much better, but I did find that there were a lot more fun plays. you know, Micah Parsons is running around. Brandon Graham came out of retiring, made a few plays. The new guy, Phillips from Miami, made some plays. So, like, again, for me, if this game ends up being 1714, but there's a ton of huge moments, I don't.
Starting point is 00:12:32 That's a great game. I love that. That's a great game. Absolutely. Luke Wilson with us. We're live at Boston Pizza in Winnipeg. As for the NFL, you mentioned that Packer lost the other night. Like, we were talking about McDermott.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Was it Billy who was saying he's got it going, Buffalo? You've got to mix it up a little bit. I think in Pittsburgh, it's getting loud with Tomlin again. And the same thing, Lafleur and Green Bay, I can tell you, man. Like, these guys... There's chattering? Yeah, people in Green Bay are not happy with Matt LaFleur. I understand that.
Starting point is 00:13:00 What about for the simple fact? It's just been a long time. He's been there a long time. And he wins, he wins, but they went all in. When they went out and got Mike, it was like, you've got to make this code. And he's an offensive-minded coach, and the offense has been dreadful the last two weeks. And it's the biggest gripe is the moments where they just, it's brutal. And the first one was, it's a three-point game, it's three-nothing.
Starting point is 00:13:25 You're marching there. You hit Christian Watson. I think they got down to like the nine or ten. And it's like flag, illegal formation. How? How are we not prepped? This is not week one. We are sitting at week 10 and you are supposed to be a Super Bowl contending team.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Like to me, that is coaching, that is prep, that is practice. And then again, it's fourth and one. and you get up there, and it's funny because I listen to the miced-up version of it, and as they're coming up to the thing, I go, they're going to run this football. Yeah, you knew it was coming. It was so predictable. So did Philly. Philly's middle linebacker, I believe, starts screaming out exactly what's going to be called.
Starting point is 00:13:59 And in one play, a fourth and one with the game in the line, they lose three or four yards, fumble, and none of that even mattered because they lined up with any legal formation. That's coaching, though. That's absolutely coaching. And this is where you can't sit here and say this team is, and they could. have the ability but you cannot be like we're ready to win now when you do dumb i was going to say a worse word but dougie i would have jam dougie there when you do dumb things like that yes well and that's you know we were talking about the bills obviously too like i like packers bills
Starting point is 00:14:29 super bowl that's what i was kind of pushing for yeah i pick the bills to win the super bowl this year you know the lot you talk about the last couple of weeks we know what happened against kansas city but you lose against miami you know the weapons it's the same kind of thing like love is not josh allen allen has established himself clearly, and he's a better player, better quarterback, but they both lack weapons. Like Tucker Kraft out in Green Bay, that's a big hit. Christian Watson's hurt all the time. Jaden Reed's been out all season. Their old line stinks. The Billsill's O'Line's very good.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Very good. Very good. But are the weapons there to help Josh Allen? No. I don't think so. Not a receiver? That's the concern. Like both guys, both teams, Green Bay and Buffalo, high expectations, both won a lot of games, both currently in a playoff spot, but looking great right now. And this is, we got a Bills fan here. We got a Bills fan. There you go.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Absolutely. Where I get jammed up with Buffalo, and I know we talk about it a bit, but if not now, then when? And I do find, and I'm not saying this is the case. It's just kind of me on the outside looking in. But I find that there are a lot of times at GMs where it's like, hey, we're in good shape. We're going to make the playoffs every year. My job is secure. Everything's good on my end.
Starting point is 00:15:37 They give themselves a big window with Josh Allen. Correct. It's like this guy's going to be good for six more years. And it's, again, to me, it's Super Bowl for these guys, especially this year. Look at the AFC. Yeah. Eight and two, we just talked about it, but the eight and two cults certainly look fraudulent in points. It wasn't for Jonathan Taylor, that team's not even close to eight and two.
Starting point is 00:15:57 What about my pats? Your pats look, they're probably the best team complete. They're fraudulent, are they not? Look at Denver. Denver's eight and two looks like the worst eight and two team at times. The fourth quarter of Bo Nix has been good. So it's like Buffalo, this is the year. Baltimore's been in shambles.
Starting point is 00:16:14 They look better recently, but certainly have not looked their best. Like, go do it. There's a moment. Now is it. And then you come out and you lay an egg against Miami. You got Tampa this week, which will be a tight game. I think they win, but it's definitely not a gimmee. Well, Josh Allen and Baker, I guess,
Starting point is 00:16:32 are boys. Have you seen them going back and forth? Do we have that? Do you have that? Do you have that? Do you see that? Alan took a shot at Baker? Why don't we play it? Because I think Baker's set the tone, right? I think Baker took a shot at him first, and then Alan responded. Here's Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, leading up to Sunday. I have to walkie-talkie to him because he's so damn tall, so I can't really have a
Starting point is 00:16:55 face-to-face conversation with him. But, you know, in Buffalo, it's cold, it's rainy, even though he's 6'10. His hands are small, so he better wear his gloves. I like that. I like that. So that's him set in the tone. Obviously they're buddies. Do we have the Josh Allen clip, too? All right, here's Alan, responding to Baker. Dugie's sport code right now is electric. I know, but we're having issues with the clips. Because he's sending a flyboat in front of that looks.
Starting point is 00:17:26 He's the best dress guy in Winnipeg. He is. He looks phenomenal. Yeah. Do we have it? Yeah, whatever. I've never seen Dugie with the sport coat on. They get it out to Polo Park.
Starting point is 00:17:34 There's a naked mannequin across the street at the mall. He stole it off a mannequin. He's a wanted man in Manitoba. Okay. I guess we evidently don't. But he took a shot out of him and said Baker plays golf with two gloves. He's that type of guy. He's Aaron Rye.
Starting point is 00:17:48 He's the Aaron Rye of the NFL. Tommy two gloves. Tommy two gloves. I did think I saw something on TSN today. I thought it was kind of funny again. The Winnipeg fans might be a little upset, but Trevor Harris made a comment about how he thinks the team with the best record should have the home dressing room. I found it a bit interesting, and I know that he's recently changed. I agree with him.
Starting point is 00:18:08 But coming into this thing, I could see how that would be a bit. weird like what do they do flip a coin no they do it they flip every year it's like east or west is home every other year okay i could see that then then there's no that makes sense i mean i think the issue they have is there's potential for a crossover and two teams from the west or two teams from the east yes like it's possible better record gets the home dressing room every time i think that would have really stung a lot of blue bombers fans to have the riders in their home yeah you're right is that true is that true yeah yeah i think that would have yeah you want to imagine that you guys are talking about
Starting point is 00:18:41 on logos. Imagine being like, oh, like, our tribal's coming here to play the Great Cup and they get our stalls. Yeah, that would, that would sting. That would stink. Well, as for the game tonight, the spread is, what, 12 and a half, doogie? Enjoy this. Enjoy this pick, buddy. That's a tough, tough pick because it challenges
Starting point is 00:18:56 my partner who's currently cruising through the Bermuda Triangle right now. We can't even be naked. We can't even be Cart Show cruisers, man. I'm in shambles. It's pretty wild. This guy is Card Expo last week, cruising this week. He's the Dosecchi's man.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Sharkooteries next week. Like, who knows what the hell he's going to be doing, but he picks winners and he sees the boards very clearly. I haven't been able to contact him, but I'm picking up on a vibe, again, from the Bermuda Triangle. Yeah. And we are in Winnipeg. We are in Winnipeg. The home of
Starting point is 00:19:28 JETs. The Jets. You're taking the Jets? We're taking the points tonight. We're going to take the points. It's way too big of a spread. Here's why. same new england just beat parts i would have taken the jets you have because this year means i probably would have lost well that does concern me i wish you didn't say that but the jets actually have been winning some games now not against great teams but they have been winning games they just had a buy where they seem to yeah reset to an extent justin fields can run the ball and i think
Starting point is 00:19:59 get in the end zone a couple times tonight for me it's a letdown game for new england i think they look i think they're still young it screams they're looking at it where we might be I'll tell you where I think about what this guy just said. I think it's absolutely. Jets covered tonight. 12 and a half. I would have taken the Jets tonight. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:17 I would have taken the Jets tonight. Isn't there a. But there's a but. Sorry, go ahead. No, you go ahead. New England's run defense is electric. Electric, very, very stout. And as we know, as Woody Johnson have formed all of us,
Starting point is 00:20:30 the Jets do have a quarterback right now that's having a hard time completing passes. So I could see this thing getting into a third and long. The scrambles, not there. We throw a pick, and if we get a pick early, and all of a sudden, it becomes a 14-point game early, this thing has the makings of being 35 to 3. No, I don't see it happening tonight.
Starting point is 00:20:47 I think we go up two touchdowns this evening. We need to stop the bleeding. If we go up two touchdowns... Part of it is we're missing. You guys haven't missed. No, we are seeing the board as clearly as anyone in the history of gambling. I worry, though. Isn't there a saying in New York the Jets will Jets? Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:03 That's what worries me. You're right. They lose by 12 tonight. Exactly. They'll lose by 12 tonight. I do think what does help in a weird way. Get this. I mean, this shirt is just so incredible. Shout out to the guys who brought that. Look at Millie Vanilli. You guys actually look pretty good in those shirts. I got one from my parts. You know what? When we make this iconic comeback, I might wear this all in the show. In three, four weeks we have when we're sitting dead even. You wear it all night. Sports center, everything. These guys. The boys look this up, man. There's a lot of, this is. This is a lot of, this is.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Hayesbrough country. No one. This is Hayes and Broh country. Absolutely not. And the prairies, they love whales out here. No, Al's brother would get mugged here. They would, like, people would be mad at him. They'd be pissed off with his arrogance.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Yes. They don't like the arrogance. That's the thing. He's got that down to earth. That's the thing. Hayes, they like you, El's brother, they'll hate his face. I'm not sure how much they love me out here, but it's all good. You keep talking about Saskatchewan.
Starting point is 00:22:04 We're bringing Mike O'Shea back to Toronto. That whole thing, obviously I'm new with CFL, but that whole thing is very, very strange. Well, like, what did you make of Dinwiddie jumping ship? I think Dinwiddie would have sniffed out about... I wonder if he knew that O'Shea was on the radar. Exactly. These guys aren't stupid, man.
Starting point is 00:22:23 They're going to get tipped off. And he got a ton of me in Ottawa, which is big. And this isn't a shot at O'Shea. He's obviously had a historic run, but Dinwiddie's won two great cups of the last four, not including this one. In the year they lost, they had the million turnovers in the final.
Starting point is 00:22:36 and they set a franchise record, they should have floated. 16 wins. Correct. Arguably the greatest regular season in history. How do you let this guy walk out of your building? That's a very valid question. That's where it's weird. Now, I believe we just reported that it's not going to happen. But there were reports, the one that was strange is that Hamilton also interviewed O'Shea.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Right. Scott Milanovic is their head coach. He's under contract. They just got the one seat. And they're three points away, or last second, few goals from being here today. And we're interviewing. The head coaches. Why don't I go to the cold world?
Starting point is 00:23:09 It is, yeah, it's a circus right now in the CFO. Yeah, Mike O'Shea. Mike O'Shea. He's getting everyone fired up. He sure is. That'd be a big loss to the bomber. That'd be a big win. MLSC needs one right now.
Starting point is 00:23:21 MLSC, they need a distraction from the Leafs right now. Let's bring in someone else. I'm not a hockey guy. For my dad, you know my dad's elisca. What's going on over there? Go ahead. Where do you start? There's not enough time in his segment to go through it
Starting point is 00:23:37 They've been terrible Yeah There's no sugar going They're Lloyd and Harry sitting in the living room Wondering how bad it is That's what they are Their pets heads are falling off Right now
Starting point is 00:23:47 We got a second? We got a second movie with Sporka? Do you think the Leafs really miss Marner? Well, of course they do But that's still no excuse for what they're doing on the ice They're scoring more goals than anyone in the league But they're just giving up more goals than anybody in the league too They have no idea defensively
Starting point is 00:24:02 What the hell they're doing miss them, but it'd be like 9, 7, and 1 with him. As a non-hockey guy, one of my favorite things right now is when I'm watching TSN to see Barubei upset. I love, like, you can just see that he wants to just, he reminds me of a football guy. I played with him. He would strangle some players if he was allowed to. The problem is, he's been losing his mind like that basically almost every game.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Yeah. So if he's doing it every game, you're like, something's wrong here. This is like a once-a-month thing. That's, I'm with you. And if you're doing it every game, you got big time. But even last year, like, he's very, composed guy and he's really smart and really cerebral but he you can tell he picked his spots last year last year he would call a timeout and you could see the team just respond he might even not say
Starting point is 00:24:42 anything just this year he's called a lot of timeouts like early to try and like jolt the guys get him going and you can see he's trying to press a lot of buttons and whether they respond or no man he is a terrifying he's a scary I sat scariest looking guy two stalls away from him and he was a teammate and he was still scary I go for beers with him after the game and how How is he a beer? He's a great guy, very funny in that. But, like, he is as, like, he's as tough as he looks. Get a mullet back in the day, too, didn't he?
Starting point is 00:25:11 Yeah, yeah. Top ten toughest guy in the league. I saw him fight a guy, and a guy punched him, and he caught it. He caught the punch, and then punched the guy. He's a ninja on the side. I've got one more hockey question. You know, I'm a Windsor guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:23 How is his toughness compared to Probert? Because Probert is like a living God. He probably dealt with him a few times. Yeah, I guarantee you, I guarantee you fought Probert. If you ever want to see. anything, just go to hockey fights.com. You can see anyone fight anybody.
Starting point is 00:25:37 But Probe was the king of the jungle, right? He was, but there's a great YouTube video of Barubei taken him. Really? Yes, and Barube is going nuts trying to get a piece of him. That's how wired that guy was. He's got to be the guy to turn the Leafs around.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I know what will turn the Leafs around. Is everybody with me? Why don't we start a Go Leafs Go Chan? Part C. Part C, Go Leaves Go! Go! Go! Go leaves go! Go, leaves go! Go, Leaves, go!
Starting point is 00:26:07 These guys are not going to make it out of the building. I didn't partake in that. You and I are the only ones that are safe to get out of this building. I didn't partake in that. I'm a Manitoba moose guy. Exactly. I always happen. Whoa!
Starting point is 00:26:22 You pulled that one out of your back pocket. I read about them this morning. I do have a, I have somewhat of a gripe with Manitoba. Okay, so the year would have been 07, and I've, believe they're the bison they won the vanyay cup right they ruined it for everybody because they were doing this whole cjfl thing i'm not even exactly sure i believe they had an older the team was older than the green bay packers playing in university that year right so my brother was on the western squad they manitoba drummed them in like the mitchell bowl whatever it's called
Starting point is 00:26:52 and i i'm in high school i call them afterwards and i'm like my brother was 18 17 18 and uh he was man i got smoked like a 20 eight-year-old. He says to me as I'm getting up, isn't it past your bedtime buddy? I love that. And they had to put rules in afterwards, so you can't. It's like a certain age now. That's great, man.
Starting point is 00:27:14 I appreciate that. Yeah, 2000. You got to bend the rules, man. You got to bend the rules. Like, that's a Steve Balmer play. Yeah, exactly. The Steve Balmer play. 40-year-olds playing against the kids.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Yeah. All right. You guys ready to rock? You two buddies again, a little pep talk. You guys can go in the corner and come up with a plan. We're ready to rock. We all it takes is one. We've got to chip up.
Starting point is 00:27:33 way at this thing. We need to pick winners. He doesn't know pro sports lingo. We've got to stack days. Yeah, sack days. Stack days. One day at a time. Go, leaves, go.
Starting point is 00:27:43 Go, leaves, go. Go, Leaves, go. There he is. Go, Leaves, go. Luke will join us tomorrow with his great cup pick. Hazenborough on the Jets tonight. Taking the points. Love that.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Enjoy Justin Fields. I love watching him play. We're looking for the football game and a leaf game tonight. We're looking for a lot. We're looking for a lot. in Winnipeg. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN4. Now have Dave Nailor joined us,
Starting point is 00:28:11 joining us around the table, and we have to bring some good news because I just did a Go-Leaf's go-chant for the people in the peg, and they hated it, Naila. They hate your gun. Tell them their coaches staying. Bring some good news. Tell us some good news. Oh, boy, yeah. This is the drama that has been playing out. Like, if you'd ever told me that the 2025 Great Cup week
Starting point is 00:28:31 would see Mike O'Shea getting in. on a plane on Monday of Grey Cup Week and fly into the big smoke and spending two days hanging out with the MLSE brass. Yeah, it's no good. We hate it. And going quiet otherwise. How about Parlay it with the Overdrive Boys going the other way
Starting point is 00:28:47 to Winnipe? Go on the other way to Winnipeg. They're in the peg and O'Shea's in Toronto. I love it. Unreal. Yeah, no, it's been a weird week that way because this is going on in the Grey Cups in Vancouver. That's a pretty big story. Mike O'Shea's a huge character. But with this team, I mean, this is a market where they did, you know, 33,000,
Starting point is 00:29:03 thousand plus every game. I mean, this is a highly, highly engaged market. And to have Mike O'Shea potentially walking out from the market in the middle of Great Cup Week's unreal. Let's just be real. When they have the second meeting, isn't that kind of game over where they might be doing something? The second meeting is pretty dangerous, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:29:18 It is. And I think there's a whole question of Mike knows what Winnipeg is. He's been here for four contracts. He's gone to five straight Grey Cups. Why does he take the call if he's not going? That's one of the argument. But I think O'Shea is a guy who's very tough to read. Like as a A journalist covering him, he's very bill-belly-checkian in his coaching style.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Doesn't give away anything. You know, when a guy has a serious injury and he's not going to be back, Mike doesn't even want to say he's not coming back this year. Like, nothing is kind of conceded or given. And the one thing I would tell you about this O'Shea situation, I don't think the bombers know he's gone, and I don't think the Argos know he's coming. I think both sides are sitting there going,
Starting point is 00:29:58 the only person who knows is Mike O'Shea, and we're kind of wait. I think the bombers are preparing to pivot. So is there X waiting for him from the bombers, or is there nothing waiting for the bombers? Because if I'm a coach and I'm looking to go somewhere and there's nothing for me to fall back on, I'm like, you're out of the picture, period, because you're not even showing interest.
Starting point is 00:30:16 So I'm out. I would say my understanding is there is an offer on the table for Mike O'Shea in Winnipeg. If he wants to be back with the bombers, he can sign it any moment. That's my understanding. In Toronto, it's a little more complicated, I think, because they have a situation where there's pinball,
Starting point is 00:30:31 and stay in his GM as he moving on. Who's going to do personnel? Like I think O'Shea's concerns would be, who am I answering to, who am I working for, who's finding players, and how's the decision-making? And I think what Toronto's approach to this is kind of like, well, Mike, you tell us what you want and we'll accommodate.
Starting point is 00:30:50 But you have to tell us what you want before we can cut to suit. Did Dinwiddie leaving, did that surprise the Argos? Like, how does that connect? Was there any connection where he sniffed this out? Yes, or were the Argos already kicking tires on O'Shea, exactly. I don't think so, but maybe, and here's what I mean. With Dinwiddie, it was, you know, they had a conversation,
Starting point is 00:31:12 they talked about some things and some possibilities, and Ottawa made a call just to see if he was interested, because they had the strategy of we're going to give you both titles and get you out of your contract in Toronto. And he promised, at the time, the arrangement was that he was going to circle back to Toronto. I'm going to take this interview in Ottawa. I'm coming back. I'm going to talk to you guys, and we can see.
Starting point is 00:31:30 He takes the interview in Ottawa. he loves everything he hears, thinks it's a great move for him, and he calls Toronto back and says, you know what, I'm going to waste your time. I know I said I'd make another call, but I'm going to take this deal with Ottawa. So he didn't ghost him at least. So he didn't ghost him.
Starting point is 00:31:43 And I don't know that Toronto willingly let him go thinking of O'Shea, but they might have. You know what I mean? There might have been this idea of like, hey, if Ryan Dinwiddie goes down the road to Ottawa, and the result of it is we get Mike O'Shea, because we know his contracts up, and we know that he's a guy who played for the Argos,
Starting point is 00:32:00 coach for the Argos, Southern Ontario guy. He's a North Bay guy, but he spent a lot of time in Southern Ontario in his playing career, I believe his wife and family are all from that area.
Starting point is 00:32:09 They may have kind of had that, that if this does happen, that's immediately going to be our plan B. So if he leaves, then somebody else is waiting in the wings type of thing. Yeah, I think there's three, there's three guys, three people, I think Toronto Argonauts
Starting point is 00:32:23 have the top of their list to replace Ryan Dinwiddie. One is, obviously, Michael Shea, number one. I think number two is Kent Austin, who is on the staff at Auburn University. Hugh Freeze got fired there three weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Austin's still on the staff. He's got a year left. Hugh Freeze was a guy that was in the dentist chair up in the press box. That's the guy who was in the gurney? No, remember, yeah. He's up in the dentist chair calling plays. I believe that was Hugh Freeze. It's a stretcher.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Bring Hugh Freeze up to Toronto. And if it goes past that, Orlando Steiner, you know, who's president of football operations in Hamilton, coaching background. I love it. It's like Game of Thrones. Another guy who keeps his thoughts about himself very, very private. So there's a lot of speculation here where we don't get a lot from the sources themselves.
Starting point is 00:33:06 It's musical chairs. And if O'Shea leaves, then who would be the guy? The guy in Winnipeg? Yeah. Not probably. I would say, I think their defensive coordinator, Jordan Younger, would get significant consideration for that job. And it's one of those things for two reasons. One is because they think he might make a good head coach.
Starting point is 00:33:22 And two, if they lose O'Shea and they don't make Jordan Younger their next head coach, he might be the defensive coordinator in Toronto. So you lose both, right? So, this is, I mean, this has been the most stable organization in the CFL, player-wise, management-wise, coaching-wise, for the last half-dozen years. And now it feels like it's all about to change. Is this the epicenter of the CFO in your opinion? Like, if you were to ask the commissioner, give me your crown jewel of the CFL. Is it Winnipeg? I don't think there's any doubt.
Starting point is 00:33:48 I mean, I saw Wade Miller. No, I'm not saying that you're here. Plan to the crowd. I saw Wade Miller last night at our media party that we had that Wade basically put on for us. I saw Wade last night and I said, wait, I should say to your face what I say all the time behind your back. I have never seen a CFL team as a business run as well as this one, like clicking on all cylinders, merchandise, media, tickets. I mean, in this day and age, selling 33,000 tickets to anything is hard, you know. And when you think that, again, it's not like you can't do the, I'll apologize to Saskatchewan.
Starting point is 00:34:22 You can't do that, well, it's the only thing they have thing, right? They got a top five NHL team in their market. And they're still able to drive revenue. I mean, they made $7 million last year, $6, $7 million. That was before all the sellouts and the Grey Cup. I mean, what's the number going to be this year? We're talking about a CFL team making $12 to $15 million. Are you serious?
Starting point is 00:34:43 Yeah. Like, that's impressive. That's big time money. Well, as for the game, Davis-Alexander, quarterback for the al-O-Wouts, has been, you know, front and center. Let me read the update. This is our boy, Matt Chennetti, who just sent this out. Davis Alexander says his hamstring treatment is massage ice ultrasound laser stem treatment says his hamstring feels great Jason Moss his head coach said watching him throw watching him move I don't know if you could tell anything was wrong with him
Starting point is 00:35:10 end quote are you buying that and like what about his record don't you buy his record well he's young though I mean I hear what you're saying but he's been lights out down the stretch clearly he's been great he's 27 years old he's not buying it the look on his face well I wouldn't buy it either I mean I think you have to say this. You want to, especially at that position, you've got to ooze confidence throughout your locker room and make sure everyone believes that you can go. We're not going to know until he takes a snap on Sunday night. No, I think there's, the big thing I want to see is the first time he has to hit go. And that's a big part of this guy's game. If you think for a young quarterback, Davis Alexander, his sense of timing of when to leave the pocket is really, really strong. And when he goes out of the pocket, he can throw it, he can run it. But I had a conversation with Anthony Calvillo earlier this season. And we're talking about this. And he said, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:53 When Davis was a backup, whether it was filmed from practice or preseason or opportunities he played, he said the thing he really drilled on him was when he thought he left the pocket at the wrong time, he would sit him down, show him the tape, and say, why did you leave the pocket? And make him explain it. And that's why, for a young quarterback, he does that so well. So it's such an important part of his game. And, I mean, I remember older quarterbacks will talk about this sometimes. They'll do speed training for that first couple of steps because they realize at the end of their careers,
Starting point is 00:36:21 that's one of the things that go on you, right? and you've got to be able to get out of the way like that. Can Davis-Alexander get out of the way? That's the biggest thing. And then can he finish the game? Because they're totally different offense when he's not there. It's got to happen. We've got the awards going tonight.
Starting point is 00:36:35 So what do we set the scene for us here now again? What do we expect tonight? Well, I think it's going to be the Nathan Rourke coronation. Yeah. It's too bad they didn't win last week. Yeah. Well, I mean you look at it would have been the two young quarterbacks of the league, right? The guys who are going to be in the league for 10 more years.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Now you've got a great story in Trevor Harris at 39. never wanted as a starter and, you know, has really found a kind of twilight of his career. It's really maybe people appreciate him more than they ever did. But, you know, Nathan, I thought he would have a great season. I mean, coming back from the NFL midseason is hard. He'd been in five playbooks in 12 months. He comes in the middle of a very kind of dramatic season in BC last year
Starting point is 00:37:12 where he's sharing time with Vernon Adams. And I just didn't, I think it's a lot to ask for a guy to kind of hit that stride. This year with the offseason, I thought Nathan that it wouldn't take much time to sort of see the guy we saw in 2022. He absolutely was the best player in the league, the last two-thirds of the season, and I think he wins the MOP tonight. Okay, I like it. Yeah, we're
Starting point is 00:37:32 Nathan Rourke, guys. We've had him on the show lots of times, yeah. He's been in studio with us. And it's quite a turnaround. When he got back there last year, it wasn't that good. Wasn't that good? No, no, it wasn't. And it was, it felt like you know, they just moved everything out of the way for him, right? And everything was handed to him, kind of, which it kind of was, you know, given the nature. But
Starting point is 00:37:50 he's a, in this league, he's, he's, in this league, he's a unicorn he's a superstar what's the MOP compared to MVP what what's the what's the thought process behind that I'll tell you it's kind of cool because you always whenever you have an MVP debate you always get into you know who's the hey hey hey it's not best player it's most valuable and then you got to factor into his team and you know where it's
Starting point is 00:38:10 valuable to his team and all and this one is just no man who's the best player yeah who's the most outstanding player in the league and I actually think it's a cleaner way who's must watch that's right yeah who's the best player you know not most valuable and because you get into these things sometimes where it's like who else is on your team and stuff that the player doesn't control yeah or this one is just about the player's performance well it's going to happen in in baseball tonight they're announcing the MVP's and I think we're fairly certain show hey is going to win it in the national league but it's you know is it going to be the
Starting point is 00:38:38 big dumper your boy is it going to be judge and the fact that he's a catcher does that make him more valuable you know and it's it was a great run for both guys and you know we'll find out what happens tonight but all right now gun um great to see him man you're the first guy we've seen in a suit in Winnipeg. Nobody wears a suit in Winnipeg. We love it. It's amazing. I brought like five of them.
Starting point is 00:38:58 We've been talking for 15 minutes. I've been staring at that pizza. Is this your go-to pizza that you can only find west of Ontario? It should be in every Boston pizza, but everything, when you make it to Winnipeg and out west, the Great White North. Yes. God's country. The air is cleaner. You go to Thunder Bay.
Starting point is 00:39:16 You can't find it. I don't think you can find that in Thunder Bay. You can't find that in Thunder Bay. You cross the border. You can find that pizza. It's the, and these new... Yeah, what do we have here? Apparently, those are mozzarella sticks or so.
Starting point is 00:39:26 I had them last Friday. They're like a... Apparently? Apparently. You're uncertain, but... They're very, very good. I had them on Friday. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Very, very good. Well, well, they look so good. We don't really want to mess with them because it's like a prop. They look like a presentation, but we're going to eat them. We will. They'll be both. Yes, absolutely. All right, Nell gun.
Starting point is 00:39:45 Great seeing you, man. Thank you for coming by here. Awesome, man. Great to see you guys. Absolutely. Dave Naler. CFL on TSN. Great Cubs Sunday
Starting point is 00:39:53 And we're here tomorrow at the Boston Pizza at Polo Park We'll come back to you up the Leaf game one more time Go Leafs go Go Leaves Go, we'll get to our best pets Overdrive continues TSN 1050 and on TSNF4 All right, so it's been a lot of fun
Starting point is 00:40:08 We're out at the Boston Pizza Polo Park here in Winnipeg We're loving it, we've been here all day Paparazzi following me into the hotel today You jam me with that picture He takes a picture of me walking in And I've got... I thought it was a great picture.
Starting point is 00:40:22 You're a travel guy. Travel guy. Do you have like a neck pillow? I have one at home. I didn't bring it. You're like one of those guys who walks on the plane with a neck pillow for a two-hour flight. You do have a nerdy setup traveling, man. I'm not going to lie.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Even first class Robbie made a comment. Oh, did he? There's a kid. Look at me walking in with my little walk-off. That's a nerdy setup. I'm not going to lie. He's got a free bag there. T-Sand.
Starting point is 00:40:47 I love it. The blue one looks free too. Hey, listen, we're in Winnipeg, the home of the Blue Bombers. I'm playing in the crowd. You guys, when you're looking at color, you add gray to your routine. What's the Blue Bombers chant? Do they have a chant? They must have some kind of song, don't they?
Starting point is 00:41:04 I'm sure they do. We'll find. Here we go, bombers. Here we go. All right. We should have done this at 4 o'clock. The Jets is Go, Jets go. Well, that leads me in perfect.

Starting point is 00:42:09 when we're out of Boston pizza in Toronto or wherever we happen to be? I special order it from my place in Woodbridge there. So you bother people with a special order. Is that what you're saying? And ham and cheddar cheese. You're not curing cancer with that thing. You're just eating a bunch of it.
Starting point is 00:42:23 It's awesome. I love it. All right. It's the best. What's the plan to get out of here? Are you going to stuff that in your bag and bring it back to the hotel? You're going to put it in your blue suitcase and walk it out of here. I should bring my blue suitcase.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Yeah. Fill that thing up with pizza and what are these things? The mozzarella. I think they're mozzarella sticks. Okay. They're unbelievable. Well, it's been an awesome first impression out here in the peg. And we're here tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:42:46 I can't wait to get back tomorrow. I set it at the top of the show, and I'm going to say it again. It feels like home. Yeah. It does. It does. It feels like home. As soon as you just take a breath when you get off the bird, I love this place.
