Starting point is 00:00:30 Hour 2 Overdrive continues, powered by Fanduil, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. Brian Hasey, O'Duck, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles-McClennan, little Deer Hazie B later in the hour. We've got Yankees in Red Sox tonight. Tigers are up to 1 right now on the Guardians, and that's going to be a barn burner coming down the stretch. And we've got the Cubs and the Padres this afternoon, and we've got a run. Rams, Niners game tonight where basically the whole offense outside of McCaffrey is hurt for the Niners. Bosa's done for the year. Games in L.A. Rams are pretty good.
Starting point is 00:01:12 It's a massive line, though. The line's up to eight and a half. Trap game, I think. It's a scary game and, like, we're on it, noodles. How do you guys break that down, though? By the way, how does Stafford go from, like, I don't know if, like, didn't you have serious back problems before the season where it was, like, in question if he was even going to play? And our boy, Luke, man, he loves that guy. He loves Stafford.
Starting point is 00:01:34 He loves him. And he's dialed in right now, man. That's a crazy thing about football players and quarterbacks in particular, they play. Like, they play. And that's why you look at guys, like Lamar, I'm surprised he's not playing. I know it's a hammy. I get it. And a big part of his game is running.
Starting point is 00:01:52 I understand that. But it's almost like you got to just sit in a pocket and Chuck. Like he got to, like Brett Farve was a totally different question. quarterback totally i understand that he started 300 games in a row like every time green bay played brett farb played nothing was keeping him off the field how did he do that though three did you say 300 yeah i think his record was 303 or something like that and eli caught him eli manning same thing every time the giants played eli was playing every single time you know much of a luxury that is
Starting point is 00:02:30 And I don't think it's being a weasel. In any sport, Hayes, there's a guy, regardless of whatever sport. They know how to be great, and they know how to not get crushed out there. It doesn't sure you've seen it a million times. They just know how to maneuver themselves out there where it's like, I know how to make my plays, make my money, and I also know how to not get blindsided and not get crushed. It's an art form, man. And there's also got to be some toughness involved there, too.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Yeah, Farv was a battler. Now, didn't Fav, he didn't miss a game when his father passed away, too. Yeah, I think he played. Famously against Oakland, it was one of the great games he's ever played. He threw for like something like 300 yards in the first half or three or four touchdowns. And John Madden was calling the game was amazing. It was just one of the coolest nights ever. That must have been one of your all-time favorites.
Starting point is 00:03:19 It was so cool. And it was Madden, it was, I think Al Michaels and John Madden on the call. Madden loved Brett Farve. It was his favorite player, basically. He loved Brett Farb. And, yeah, Farb flew in, day of. They weren't sure if he was going to play, and he was unbelievable. But, Hayes, you were about to say something, though.
Starting point is 00:03:37 I feel like you were going to go, but there's a caveat. No, no, no, I actually had a guy, the number one guy for what O. just described, the number one guy, crafty, sneaky, in and out, Phil Kessel. Phil never missed a game and never got hit. And he was great. Yeah, he was great. He played. He was unreal.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Like, Phil was a great player. I mean, let's be honest. There was a part of his game, but it was not his specialty where, like, forechecking and, like, hitting. Like, he did his thing, man, and he got his 30, 35 goals. He stuck around a long time, played every night, and you're right. I don't know if he's the poster boy. I'd rather go with Farr of or Eli Manning, but Phil was unbelievable, man. You talk about longevity and production.
Starting point is 00:04:23 He did it for a long time. Yeah, he did. Three cups, too. Did he have three? Did he get three? He got one in Vegas. Yeah, he snuck one in in Vegas, too, man. Do you remember there?
Starting point is 00:04:32 I think all the post-game interviews, wasn't it where Phil made a speech to the team going, like, I don't want to go back to town. Exactly. He goes, don't even think about dragging me back down there. I'm not going. Back down to Florida. I think it was either Tampa or Florida, whatever. There's Florida Panthers.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Florida, yeah. Unreal. It's so funny. Like, he makes a speech to the team. He's a healthy scratch, and he's like, don't even think of losing to. You know how crazy that is when a guy, regardless of what your status is in the league, for someone that's not in the fold, to wheel in the locker room and start directing traffic and giving orders about what to do like that, that just shows you how well-liked Phil was in the locker
Starting point is 00:05:15 room. Yeah. That's a veteran. Yeah, I'm seeing that I guess the ESPN signed TJ Oshy to be a part of their studio analyst and game analyst stuff. And there's a guy that played that great. career and I think he just retired, but did you see the guy called the Cubsky yesterday? Do we have the audio?
Starting point is 00:05:36 Ben McDonald. Yeah, I don't know if we, I should ask for, that's on me. They were doing a reader on ESPN. Hey, the NHL's back next week on ESPN. And he goes, there's a zero percent chance I'll be watching that. The one guy said the NHL is coming up and there's this game in that game and he said to his partsy he goes and i know you'll be tuned in and he looked at him and he said there is zero chance that i will be tuned into that and he goes no i know you'll be tuned in he goes i don't
Starting point is 00:06:07 care where i am on this earth like he made a point of saying i am not tuning into that like what a great he doubled down he doubled down apparently today he goes oh i didn't even know yespn had the rights like he was doing an interview he goes i had no idea we had the rights so i don't know that helps his cause. I will say, you know, there's something, NHL hockey people who are so overly sensitive? Who cares of this guy watches or not? Like, who cares if Ben McDonald,
Starting point is 00:06:37 I'd never heard of this guy. Who cares if he's watching or not? He's the color guy calling the Cubs. He's a baseball guy. Like, it's a weird play, considering it's your network. Dude, he's goofy. Network 101 is everyone promotes everyone.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And, hey, this is great, you know. But if it's a grizzled old baseball veteran, and he just doesn't really pay it. I could see him not understanding that they had the rights to hockey. Right. He just does baseball, baseball, baseball. There are so many people in sports that literally only care and watch about their thing. Like they don't know about anything else.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And I think that's what this guy was saying. He's like, I'm not watching that. It's a crazy thing to say. Just straight shooter, though. Even like whoever the play-by-play guy was trying to at least give him an out. He's like, ah, you know, it's with everybody. everybody at the company watches he's like there is zero chats like that was trending immediately i was like that is a bad it's a bad look for yes it's just a tough one because you're promoting
Starting point is 00:07:35 your own network on your own network you know like who cares if you're going to watch or not but come on yeah if you smell what the ruin wilson is cooking there he is and hair is dialed tonight wow it's going on with that salad dude you look like like you're 18, man. That's good news. 18, I like that. You've got to get younger these days, Partsie. Well, I mean, maybe you could play for the Niners tonight.
Starting point is 00:08:04 If you're healthy, you could possibly play for them tonight. It's tough sledding over there. Between them and the Ravens, I mean, it seems like everybody's out. They got obviously Purdy, you know, Pierceall's out now, Jennings is out. Iuke, I think they thought would be at least close to coming back right now. Apparently, he's not. I mean, it's a bloodbath over there. Yeah. Like is this one where McCaffrey's got to go off for like 200 total yards tonight for them to have any chance at winning?
Starting point is 00:08:32 I would say yes, or at least in that realm. They need to get the run game going and it hasn't been, it has not gotten going whatsoever. Or Bob Sala pulls a little magic trick and somehow kind of slows down the Rams and Matthew Stafford. Hartz, that's your boy. I know you love him and he is dynamite right now. How excited are you about the way he's playing? to his boys out there. I'm fired up and what kind of excites me is for me, and I think for the majority of people, when you watch a quarterback play the game the way he plays it,
Starting point is 00:09:05 it's a lot more enjoyable to watch. I don't love the whole, like, recess ball. Of course, once in a while, it's great, but like I'm a guy who likes to sit back here and see a quarterback, sling the pill, fire it down, field, you know, with a lot of zip on. And didn't you say that he was
Starting point is 00:09:20 very particular in practice about if he missed the throw or other quarterbacks just would not do that, where if it was like off the wrong shoulder, he would tap you and say sorry about that, that's on me or whatever? I'm telling you, my first OTAs, it was like a pretty intense moment because Patricia was running it, so we were
Starting point is 00:09:36 scrimaging, and I caught a five-yard stick route, turned it up the field, but kind of twisted with it. I ended up probably being a 12-yard play. I got back, you know, it's a good play, and he was like, hey, man, I got to put that on your shoulder so you can pick up a few more there. And I was like, holy smile, and I'm talking, we're talking
Starting point is 00:09:52 you know, eight inches difference and he was like critical of himself for that. He'd be, you know, he was the type of guy that even if it wasn't his fault, he would always like take the blame to like let the guys play free. And you give them Puka and the other guy that they've got now is Devante
Starting point is 00:10:08 Adams who's quietly been having a great year and been a big part of this offense. That's a nasty dynamic duo right there. Yeah. I mean, it's a massive game because of what's going on in the NFC West. Like they're both three and one right? And you got the Seahawks three and one, and the cards are two and two.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Like, it's a massive, massive swing game tonight. The N.R.C. West, the juggernaut. Like, even coming into the year, there's a lot of teams where it's, you know, make or break, I would say for the Cardinals right now, like, if they don't have a very good year, at some point you've got to nuke that entire situation. Like, at what point is that team going to be like a playoff team? You know, in what point is Kyler going to be a difference maker? Right now, you know, two and two.
Starting point is 00:10:52 they had a shot. So I think that's a big question mark there. The Niners, barring all the injuries, before that, you would have said, like, hey, can this roster or this core group of guys get it done? You know, so there's the big question mark there. Like, how long is that window, especially now that Purdy is paid? Seattle, you know, there's a lot of questions as far as I'd say,
Starting point is 00:11:15 they're the most up-and-coming team. Defense is young. Head coach is relatively new there and also young. And offensive, you've got a new quarterback, new offensive coordinator. And then you've got the Rams, who I thought last year, when it came down to the playoffs, or probably the second or third best team in the playoffs. And they should be 4-0 right now if it wasn't for a kicker who can't figure out how to kick a ball. Well, Luke, is this a trap game tonight with that line, though?
Starting point is 00:11:43 I mean, is that a big line you feel like? It is a big, I don't want to like tip my cap too much. And I will say I'm coming off the worst pick in the history of overdrive. Dude, what happened there, man. That bangles pick. I saw you, you're talking about the Bengals. You were like, that's the worst performance I've ever seen in the league, and you took them.
Starting point is 00:12:01 That's not my Partsy. Yeah, I'm telling you, Partsie. I thought for sure Browning would, like, put up a fight. Like, they couldn't get lined up. That Monday Nighter was one of the hardest watches I've ever had in my life. I'll tell you, in fundamentally, I've never seen a team play so flawed at that level in my life also. Like, it was just disgusting football. And it should have been worse, but Denver was just as bad at points.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Denver had a ton of brutal penalties. You know, they didn't ever get stopped. They stopped themselves. So, I mean, it was thankful that we're playing no beavis and butthead, and they decided to roll with the Jets. That was a horrible pick. Horrible pick. It was.
Starting point is 00:12:38 I said the next day, like rule number one in gambling is, know who you're betting on. Forget who you're betting against and what the line is. Think about the team you're betting on first and formal. And if it's the Jets, think again, recalibrate, go back to the well. But what sucks you into just getting away from that haze? Just stupid things getting in your head weather. Al's Brow, Al's Brow, infiltrated them, man. They could have been tied right now.
Starting point is 00:13:08 They could have been one-up. No blood. And now what's going to happen tonight is they're going to read, you know, they're reading the press clippings because that's their source. And they're going to pick. They're going to pick the Rams because of the injuries. We'll get to that. And I'm telling you, it's a Thursday night division.
Starting point is 00:13:22 game between a very, very well-coached San Francisco team. They're going to make it a fight. Eight and a half is too big of a number. It does scare me that the coaches are good and McCaffrey's there and it's just the injuries are crazy. Too big of a number. Yeah, it's a massive number. We'll get to it in a moment.
Starting point is 00:13:39 But there's a lot going on in this league. We're already into October and it feels like there's a lot of teams that are kind of feeling it. I mean, Baltimore first and foremost. Cleveland's making this quarterback change. like Joe Flacco has not been good clearly but what were they expecting out of Joe Flacco and now they're going to Dylan Gabriel
Starting point is 00:13:58 and Shador Sanders is asking people to lip read as press conferences it just gets goofier and goofier like what do you see happening with Gabriel if it gets ugly do you think they could go to Sanders at some point this year at some point this year for sure
Starting point is 00:14:14 you know I believe Flacco is listed as the two not the three so I don't think Shudor is coming in anytime soon. The tough part right now is, you know, Gabriel is obviously picked ahead of Shudor, so unless Gabriel goes out here and just pukes all over himself,
Starting point is 00:14:32 they're going to naturally give him a ton of, you know, runway to make mistakes, which is not a bad thing for a young quarterback. But what's been tough is, you know, Flacco is known for later in his career. He's kind of been, you know, running some turnover issues, but generally speaking,
Starting point is 00:14:50 you get the big splash plays. You get the, you know, he's throwing the ball over the field, and he's not thrown it over the field, and you're still getting the turnovers. So even to me, Gabriel can run a little bit, just kind of play some recess football, and find a way to get to 17-ish points,
Starting point is 00:15:07 which I don't even know if you can do that, but we'll see, like, this Cleveland defense is the real deal. They're very, very talented. It obviously starts with Miles Garrett. So I think if you can just have an offense that is, again, doesn't even have to be average but just takes care of the football and can kind of create some point some way they can at least be competitive because right now
Starting point is 00:15:28 they're not that offense is future the only thing I've seen worse was the Bengals Monday night Parts how quickly would a veteran have got to Shadur and said that nonsense you pulled the other day is unacceptable or would they just say I'm not even going to bother with that I think it's not bother because it's so ridiculous and they're not winning.
Starting point is 00:15:50 If this is a team that was like, hey, we got a legitimate shot right now in the division. We feel good about what's going on. We need everybody pulling the same direction. Maybe a veteran comes over. But I watch that, and I'm like, what is this? Like high school? This is pro football.
Starting point is 00:16:07 And I can't wrap my head around a third string quarterback. Like, if you're a third string quarterback, we didn't even have, let me phrase that. In Seattle, we only kept two. Like, not everyone has a third string quarterback. quarterback. They have the guy that, you know, it's that rule where they can dress him, but he's on the practice squad. Like, you're there to be seen, not heard. You're there to put your head down and grind. And if you are asked interview questions, like, you should be supporting like, hey, you
Starting point is 00:16:35 know, I learned a lot from Joe Flacko. I'm really grateful for his time and I'm going to use this timer now he's not getting as many reps in practice. I'm going to be in his pocket being like, yo, what are you seeing here? What are you thinking here? Like, Joe Flack was a guy who's been there, done that. Yes, he's been pulled this year, but hardly anybody has more reps and more experience in him. You just
Starting point is 00:16:57 want Shudor, and I like Shudor. I actually think that one day, talent wise, he could be a player in the league, but he's just got to get out of his own way. Like, it's just so unprofessional. It disgusts me. And that's what's disappointing about it. Yeah, it's so unnecessary. I said yesterday, though, like
Starting point is 00:17:13 a part of it's on the PR team, and I don't know how the NFL works, but, like, why is a third-string quarterback available to the media, period? I'm with you on that. And the next one, like, a lot of people were like, oh, he was responding to Rex Ryan, which I didn't really get how that, like. I didn't really get that either. And Rex tore or strip off him to. He just said getting to the front of the line in the video room would pay attention. So what does that have to do with miming?
Starting point is 00:17:37 I don't get that. Here's the next thing, guys. And I mean this, like, and I understand that I'm now in the media and, and, you know, you know we all are like when I was playing I wasn't really like what is the media saying about me like I never really like paid attention to the point of like oh like Troy Aikman took a shot at me you know Troy it was actually pretty complimentary I liked me I liked me but beyond that it's like what am I going to do like getting a fight with a guy on a talk show like I don't know if you guys have had anything with the leaves but like to me when you're arguing with media
Starting point is 00:18:14 guys are miming in a response to a media guy being firm and saying like, hey, you should be in the front row. Like, you've lost the plot. You're a professional athlete. You need to be accountable to your teammates and to your coaches. That's it. You don't need to be accountable to the media. Yeah, accountable in the sense of you answer the questions, you're there for the interviews. But the real pro guys that I play with, you know, they don't care about the media narrative.
Starting point is 00:18:44 as much as they care about the opinions of their own teammates in the locker room. And especially playing quarterback, that is a very, very, very bad look, in my opinion. Uh-oh. Speaking of good looks, here's my main man, Alice Brothers. We moved to a five. There he is. I love this.
Starting point is 00:19:08 A five-shot for AB. Alice Brother, I think very quality logic, right? I think taking the Jets, the whole process was perfect. We got jammed. But I thought our process was quality. Whose call was it, Al's brother? Yours or Hayes? I'll take a little ownership.
Starting point is 00:19:26 I'll take the ownership on that. I think Hazy B was 50-50. I think I nudged him over the line. But let's be honest, Brayland Allen doesn't fumble that ball at the end zone. It scores. Right. Here's the difference. Here come the excuses.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Jake Browning threw for 350 yards. We cover two, man. It doesn't matter. Yeah, except Jake Brown. He wasn't even close. This guy was an inch from the end zone. And he wasn't close to hanging on to the ball either. Get out of here with excuses.
Starting point is 00:19:51 All right. Alice, brother, we are on the clock. So Fandall, this line has been moving up on Fandall all day. Take it, boys. It's eight and a half now. We're locking that in, Doogie. I think we're locking that in. Lock it in, says JP.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Okay. So it's eight and a half. Rams laying eight and a half at home against a depleted Niners lineup. Where does your head go with this one? Well, like, the numbers, moving because the money is coming in droves on the Rams here. I mean, you saw on the weekend what it looks like, or Monday night what it looks like when you have a rag-tag bunch of dudes out there trying to move the ball against
Starting point is 00:20:25 an NFL defense, it's not good, just like Jake Browning wasn't able to do a whole lot of anything on Monday. I don't like what Mack Jones is going to do tonight with the San Francisco 49ers. You're taking on a much better offense in the L.A. Rams, they're very well-balanced team. I think the injuries, you just, we can't bet. on the Niners here, Hayes. I just don't think we can bet on the Niners. It's a massive number.
Starting point is 00:20:51 It's a divisional game. You always say that, Haysie. Divisional game, you never go after that big number. We just saw it with the Dolphins and the Bills a couple of weeks ago. It was basically the same number. Go with your gut. The gut says Matt Stafford, who's my boy, and always has. Oh, my.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Oh, yeah. I think he slings it around the park tonight. I mean, that's the thing. Without Bosa, forget the offense. Who's making Matt Stafford feel uncomfortable tonight? Right. I don't see who's going to make him uncomfortable. I think the run game will be there.
Starting point is 00:21:26 And then you've got Puka, you've got Adams, who's been great. It's at home for the Rams. Like, they're just so depleted. The Niners were, they're kind of lucky to get those first three wins. Like, they were barely across the line. The most fraudulent three-one football team in the league. The most fraudulent 3-1 record in the league. They should have lost to Seattle in week one.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Yes. Right? They barely beat the Saints. They barely beat the Cardinals. They lost to Jacksonville. Lock it in and a terrible football. All right. Lay the points.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Lock it in. Matt Stafford, our boy. We love Matt Stafford. We love Sean McFa. Plus two. We're on the Rams. We're on the Rams. The Rams have covered four straight.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Four straight here against Shanahan and the Niners. And it's about to be five straight tonight. Well, McFade does own Shanahan. You know, the last time. I'm a guy in this show took the Rams. Do you want to know what happened? Yeah, the touchdown off of
Starting point is 00:22:20 a block field goal. We do. The Rams owe us one, and they're going to win tonight by seven points, and Parsi will be plus two. The Rams owe us. They do owe you for that. After how many times you picked your boy Stafford, and you've always gone with him, he owes us something. He owes us one.
Starting point is 00:22:37 A late pick. He'll sauce, yeah, a little backdoor action. A late pick would be beautiful. Late pick, driving. okay well we're going to take we're going to lay the points it's a massive massive number it's very uncomfortable else brother we get jammed with the toughest games every single week these guys get broncos bangles and they screw it up and we get stuff like this but it's all how many points you think this offense can put up rams tonight against the the niners we like i think they could probably what are we in kindergarten yeah i think they can put up
Starting point is 00:23:08 oh yeah 24 to 28 and i don't i'm with you mac jones he's not scoring more than than 14 points tonight. Exactly. Like, that's where I'm at. They would have to keep the Rams to under 20 points in order to win this football game. And they just simply are incapable of doing that. They give up 26 to Jacksonville last week. Jackson's good now.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Jackson's good. Their head coach trying to beat people up after the game. Jacksonville's good. Yeah, well, that's insane. Sala got punked, man. Sala's not going to have anything going tonight, man. His defense probably looks down on him now. He got punked by the Jags coach.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Do you know how hard that is? Yeah, that is tough. Duval. Yeah, Liam Cohen. Duval is owning you on the sideline. He better grow hair for the game tonight. He needs to have a completely different look and completely different vibe. Rams roll.
Starting point is 00:23:58 We're laying the points. I love it, Ellis brother. Double-digit dub for the Rams tonight. I love it. And I think we've got multiple Monday Niders again this week. I believe we do. Again? I think so.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Do we have a London game again? We got so many games. London game Vikings stuck around. Parts, I'm not going to lie to you. Last week, we were very, very close. A couple bad bounces from getting to like a plus six plus seven. I'm telling you right now, when the Niners cover this, they lose by seven, eight points tonight, it's off to the races for us. What are you honestly think?
Starting point is 00:24:30 We honestly think that we both know that that's not happening. I'm telling you, I think the Niners will find a way to keep it close. Really? If it wasn't our pick, we wouldn't have been done the same thing that they just did, Partsy. Listen, man, you know Kyle Shanahan's my guy. No, he's not your guy. No, Sal is my guy.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Maddie Saffer. We got to Marcus Robinson back today. Does your boy Salas still run the stairs before the game? Of course, man. How unnecessary is that? Like, it's just such a... Like, this thing started at five and a half. That's probably the true line here.
Starting point is 00:25:04 We bet up by numpties like Al's bro to eight and a half. Well, we're alive. Purdy was supposed to play, man. Dude, Matt Jones is. played better than Purdy. Purdy's been terrible this year. Purdy said two days ago, he's like, I'm going to be ready for the game. He's like, I couldn't play tonight, but I got two days, and I was like, that guy's going to play.
Starting point is 00:25:21 I think that's what his quote was. Yeah, every time it looks like he's been ruled in, and then all of a sudden he's ruled out, if he was making $850,000, this guy's playing tonight. I guarantee you that. I guarantee you he's playing tonight. There's a good chance, that's true. With $55 million, uh, one more week. One more week won't kill me.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Rest a little. Yeah, rest it up. Rest it up. All right, boys. Al's brother, great pick. Great analysis, as always. And I love where we're at, man. I think we tie it up tonight and then have ourselves an immaculate week.
Starting point is 00:25:54 And it all starts with a winner on a Thursday night. Rams 8.5 for Hayes and Bro. All right, Luke, Al's brother. Good seeing you guys. Catch you guys tomorrow. There it is. Luke Wilson, Al's brother. And the Rams pick is in.
Starting point is 00:26:08 It sucks when you get injuries, man. All these depleted. lineups and quarterbacks that get hurt like parties out again lamar's likely going to miss the next two weeks well it totally nullifies a divisional game when you got that many injuries yeah well it's not a game that's totally different lineup the gambling component too though these bookies and that the people who set the lines they must be frustrated because they're you're trying to shape around the injuries right like well that's it and the sharp money would have hammered the rams when they were five and a half knowing what's coming with all the injuries and you found yourself
Starting point is 00:26:41 like three points, three or four points. When you say hammer, like that would be a hammering the money put down on that. Yes, that's a briefcase coming in. That's Kauai, Kauai Christie Pitts. Right. That's going, we're going to go tree planting, and then we'll see you at the Fandual Sports app or wherever it happens to be. Tomorrow is a big day for Fandual Futures Day, NHL Futures Day.
Starting point is 00:27:06 So you can get in on that. It's going to be tons of NHL future options as we get. closer to the NFL season. We're going to do our own futures hit tomorrow. We're looking forward to that. We'll have Johnny on tomorrow, and we're teeing up the Jays, and we'll find out who they're going to play as of tonight. We're going to know by about 11 p.m. tonight.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Maybe if it goes into extras midnight, but we will know if they're playing at 1 o'clock on Saturday. That means it's the Red Sox or 4 o'clock on Saturday. That means it's the Yankees. And I find that interesting. That as big as the Boston Red Sox are, they're not quite as big as the New York Yankees. Right, not quite.
Starting point is 00:27:42 It's like, you can get the 1 o'clock game on Saturday. It is a little bit of a kick in the junk. Like just that time difference. Yeah, because it's obvious the 4 o'clock window is just, it's just a bigger window, right? It's closer to prime time. And that's what Major League Baseball is looking for. And whoever it is in the States, ESPN, Fox, TBS, or whatever. It's just the Yankees.
Starting point is 00:28:02 You're not going to trump them. You can't. It's the biggest brand going in baseball, man. It's the Yankees and Dodgers. And Dodgers are on the West Coast. So this is the way it's going to go. All right, Dear Hazy B coming up, our best bets on the games tonight as well. And again, Leifes in action.
Starting point is 00:28:18 They're basically opening night lineup is going to be fielded this evening. So we'll continue to touch on that. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN4. All right, best bets coming up, Dear Hazy V, a little bit later in the hour. So Leif's lineup is pretty loaded tonight. And I am, I'm curious to see, you know, how many minutes you give. Matthews tonight, Tavares tonight,
Starting point is 00:28:43 Nielander, it's still the preseason. I don't think they're going to care that much. I know, but you put the pedal down one time, don't you? I think you play them regularly. I think you play 20 minutes tonight. Well, and I guess that's what I'm asking. Like, you know, you look at the Cowan, and Easton Cowan's probably been the talk of camp
Starting point is 00:28:59 because he's their number one prospect, and he's not going back to junior, and it appears as if they've been happy with him and Craig Baroubae wants to give him a chance. so this would be his first preseason game where he might play eight minutes tonight like nine minutes you know if that is kind of weird what you just said it doesn't really match up or he's being talked about is you know looking like an NHL player and it's his time and then you get eight minutes so how does that kind of match up Hayes that's what's coming
Starting point is 00:29:30 in the regular season on the fourth line it is on the fourth line but he he might be an outlier. Because if Craig Barubi's trying to, you know, maximize his potential, it's like, yes, you're getting fourth line minutes to match Lawrence and Lawton, but the second power play, you might get, you know, an extra two minutes there, something like that. Like, that's where I think you can find it. Four on four situations, Jamie. You're right, oh. You're right. Like, just stuff like that, like where you can find him an extra two, three, four shifts. And that's where he's he's going to have to be a difference maker because, you know, in the fourth line
Starting point is 00:30:07 and you're playing five on five, there's not going to be a lot of room out there. It's not going to be a ton of creativity with those other two. But on the power play, second power play, that type of stuff. I think if it was a regular season game right now and we looked at the end of the game sheet, you might see Cowan with 11 or 12 minutes
Starting point is 00:30:26 and Lawrence and those guys at 8 or 9 type of thing. That's probably what will happen tonight. But he's going to realize if he should, shows early, and I've talked about it a lot with coaches looking at guys to see what they got. Like, if he's dynamite early, maybe the coach says, you get a couple shifts up there with, you know, they just spot duty where they're like you're really going and you're looking like you need more. Because it's awfully difficult for a guy that's in junior, because sometimes a junior, when you're the stud player, you're looking at guys on the fourth line and you're like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Like, that guy has never plays. I've seen some guys in the, even in the NHL, I think put their gear on and not go on the ice for one. I don't even think you get credit for a game played. Yeah. That's crazy, man. Imagine putting your gear on and without the coach being pissed off at you and not getting credit for a game played. Yeah, that's weird, man. It has – it happens.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah, and then you're the young guy in the NHL and you're like, man, I'm just sitting here. I've never sat here like this before. It's a weird vibe. Well, and also, you're not a fighter, so nothing's going to happen in the game that necessitates you to play if that's the situation. You're a skill player. Right. You know, like if you're a fourth line tough guy fighter, it's like, if this gets carried away, I'm going to play. They're going to put me on the ice and I'm going to get out there.
Starting point is 00:31:42 And I might have to fight. That's a completely different mentality, completely different. But, yeah, we'll see. Those are the guys that I'm intrigued with tonight. It's Cowan, Machelli, McMahon, Domi. Like, those are the four wingers that have slotted in to the line where the other guys are, likely to be mainstays, we believe. And they've kind of got back to the Brian Burke days, which I guess they've kind of always had.
Starting point is 00:32:11 But it's a real top six, bottom six. Like Nicholas Waugh and Dakota Joshua, they're not playing on the first line at any point. No, they're grinding kind of depth players. Right. And same thing with Lotton. Lotton has, I guess, at some point in his career, been a little bit higher in the lineup, but not much. And Lorence is not.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Lorence is a fourth-line player. That's what he is. and William Neelander is not playing down. You know, and Nyes is not playing on the fourth line. Like, it's a time of... William Neelander is not playing down. No. It's not happening.
Starting point is 00:32:43 You're right. It's a top six, bottom six on this team. There's a line. But what you're hoping, though, Brian, is maybe that third line is strong enough that it's really like a top nine type of thing, not just top six, top, and bottom six. Like you hope that the, you know, obviously the template, the Florida Panthers third line was strong but there's lots of good third lines in the league
Starting point is 00:33:05 yes they're defined as a third line but they're they're expected to give some goals they're expected to give a little bit more than just go out there and kill some time until the top six need a breather and can go out like that's the that's what I'm looking for with that third line is can you be a separator can you get a big goal can you produce and not just go out and and crash and bang around that's what would be expected of them or should be expected of them going into the regular season. Well, this is what we talk about with Jonas every single year. Who scores further down the lineup, right?
Starting point is 00:33:39 And it's tough to argue with Jonas. Oh, he's always got a smart-ass remark about something. He loves that. He loves that argument. If he's got a hate-on for a guy, he'll be like, well, that guy's never going to score a goal. I know. He loves that. Well, he'll give you the last, like the date, the last date he scored.
Starting point is 00:33:57 You know, he'll have that. Like, oh, well, take a look at this sheet. What does that say? Right there. the last time that guy scored. And he'll also back it up with a smallish skill guy that they could have had to go in there. Right. Yes.
Starting point is 00:34:09 Right. But, you know. Jerry Malgan. Yeah. It is a reasonable argument. You know, like I expect Matthews to score a lot this year. Yeah. I think, like, Tavares is an interesting one.
Starting point is 00:34:21 You know, his contract got done and he comes back and he had a really good year last year. But he's 35. He benefited from Marner as well, right? like Marner on the power play would set him up, you know, like the bumper. Slop passes in front of the net and tens and stuff, a lot of those, man. Well, that's an interesting case study then, Brian. So Tavares played 75 games last year, had 74 points, but he had 38 goals. But he was making 11 million, and we were always like, hey, you know, that's a good year.
Starting point is 00:34:51 And all seven years, he produced at 11 million, you know, for the most part. Now he's at, what, four and a half? Four and a half, yeah. So what's a reasonable number? Nobody's going to care, though. Everyone's still going to be treating him like an $11 million player, regardless of what he signed for to come back. Because you just said it, hey, top six, bottom six.
Starting point is 00:35:10 It's like if you're slotted in the top, it doesn't matter if you're on a discount deal. You can't just say, I don't know if I got it anymore. I only make $4 million. So is it 30 goals for Tavares? Do you think? I think so. You're going to be looking for it.
Starting point is 00:35:25 You need it. I think so. I mean, I wouldn't expect it every year the rest of his career. year. He's got four years left, I believe, on this deal. I don't think he's scoring 120 goals in the next four years. Is that reasonable to expect? I mean, possibly if he scores 35 this year and then 25 the next, I don't know. I mean, if you get 100, put it this way.
Starting point is 00:35:48 If you get 120 goals out of him the next four years, that's a grand slam win. Like just a great, great performance, great contract. and Tavaros can hold his head high and say, hey, I just kept doing what I've been doing. Because he's been a great goal scorer's whole career. He's got 500 goals. Yeah, he's been steady. He's been steady, certainly. You know, he's not a 50 goal scorer, but he's, you look down at it's 38, 38, 30 every single year.
Starting point is 00:36:16 47, 47, 26, 29, 38. Like, it's very consistent. Yeah. So that's the thing is I think we're all expecting 30, like at least 30. I think in the next couple years. Hayes, you just mentioned Gartner. Do you know how many times he got 30? It's like 17 years or something.
Starting point is 00:36:35 16, 16, wasn't it? 17 years, that guy ripped home 30 goals. Every year, 30 plus. That is insane consistency. Yeah, that is crazy. All right, so we'll get to our best bets, and as we know, overdrive is brought you by Fandoo, bringing you more ways to play your game your way,
Starting point is 00:36:55 and we'll sneak in a couple of Dear Hazy Bees before we wrap it up. Yankee's socks tonight, Rams, Niners tonight. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN4. Starting point is 00:37:54 Police play responsibly 19 plus physically located in Ontario. So we got that game going tonight. We've got the Leafs going tonight. We got Yankees Red Sox tonight. Like, what at night? Can't beat it. Can't beat it tonight. By the way, you read that gambling thing like a guy that started a casino in his dorm.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Like you were seamless. It was just amazing how that like went off the tongue. Yes. It was so natural, man. It was so complicated and so natural for you. Yeah. There's certain terminology that you use and you realize, you know, it's like, it's like in any, like if you're a big golfer, you're used some golf terms, oh, that you would
Starting point is 00:38:32 understand. And the average person would be like, what the hell did that, what does that mean? Yeah. What the hell did you just say? Like a sod off nine iron or something. Right. Exactly. And, you know, whatever it might be in that, golfing, gambling, cards.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Yeah. Whatever. You used it earlier, too. You're like the sharp money at 5.5. I wish people describe me that way. Like whatever I bet on, people like, oh, it's sharp money. But I'm not a sharp guy. It's a sharp coat you're wearing today.
Starting point is 00:39:02 I will say that. This is one of the new ones I got shipped in from the cloak room in Montreal, my go-to spot. Wow. I'm bringing it out for the first time. Is it like a new material? I can't really tell. It looks velvet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Is that like velvet? It's whatever it is, it pops and it's phenomenal. It's glorious. I don't, I couldn't, I don't, it's not velvet. I mean, I can tell you that, but, um, it's a beautiful jacket, man. Do you, do you make the picks yourself or do you just say come up with three different things for me? I usually, so I sent in, I needed a suit. I was looking for kind of a Navy suit.
Starting point is 00:39:42 So I threw that in. And then I, I just asked the guy, Louie's the guy who runs the whole operation. I said, fire up a few that you like, you know, like, what do you got for me? So I got this. I got like a checker blue on my breakout tomorrow. And basically I went back to him. I said, so where are we going? He's like, oh, I've already set this order up.
Starting point is 00:40:03 It's on route. I said, thank you very much. Appreciate it. So I trust his style, man. He's got style. I don't necessarily, but I try to make it look good. All right, enough of that. This feels like a dear hazy bee.
Starting point is 00:40:13 This is a dear hazy bee. When in doubt, go to someone that has style to help you with your style. Right? Sounds like pretty good advice. Don't make the choices if you have no idea. If you have no idea, then either give that thumbs up. Maybe you can filter it through, but for the most part, rely on the people that do have style or that do have the eye for it. All right, let's fire up Dear Hazie B.
Starting point is 00:40:34 People send in a tweet. They write us for our professional advice on life things. Dear HazyB, every morning my boiler has a gas leak. My wife thinks it's the baby. Dear Hazy B. If you want to come to Hazy B, I need honesty from you. Hasey, you got dumped a lot. Tell me.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Tell them. Tell them. Grown adults with birthdays, it's asinine. All right. Dear Hazy B, brought to you by Boston Pizza Canada's favorite sports bar. Enjoy $15 lunch at BP where you get an entree, a side and a drink, and you'll get it all in 20 minutes or less. A fast lunch doesn't have to be fast food.
Starting point is 00:41:08 See you for a $15 fast lunch at your local Boston Pizza. Dear Hazy B, my boss is a lunatic Yankees fan and originally from New York. He bleeds everything Yankees and makes a point of it through. out our office. If the Yankees advance to play the Jays, what's the play here? Should I spark a conversation
Starting point is 00:41:28 or give them a run in the rivalry? I'm a huge Blue Jays fan and it could turn into a battle. Anthony and Vaughn. Wow. We've had some of these before. It's very complicated when you have a boss that's a lunatic
Starting point is 00:41:44 about something like this. I just think you ask, like you just say, hey, man, you kiss ass. You say, let's go to the game together. why not great call great call yeah and i think here's what i would say i think he'd appreciate if you're a diehard blue jay fan he wants you to be the jays fan you can't fake being a yankee fan or something like that like he'd lose all respect for you if you you cater to his yankee fandom now you got to be careful with the chirps because we know we know crazy sports fans like if the jays
Starting point is 00:42:15 beat the yankees you got to be very very delicate around that yeah very delicate because this guy will be a monster in the office. And he's your boss. Yes, that's the thing. There is a line, and you can't, you chirp him a little bit, or you, you know, get under his skin, and there's a big contract or something that comes in. He might look at you differently. You've got to tread that line.
Starting point is 00:42:38 You can go to the game, be respectful, but you've got to be careful, especially if the Jay's win. You can't rub it in and rub salt into that wound, because it might affect your work relationship with him moving forward. You just kiss ass and say, let's just, let's have fun with this, let's go to the game. I've got one more quick one here. Last night, I got called outside by my wife to say, the cats are playing with a skunk. Go and get the cats and bring them into the house.
Starting point is 00:43:09 So I go outside and I'm like, for some reason the skunk is not spraying my cats. But I'm like, if I go and reach, like, I'm in jeopardy now. I'm in trouble, and I'm running around in my underpants in the backyard, and I'm looking at a skunk, and I'm like, if I get sprayed by a skunk, I don't even know what the hell happens to a human being. I know animals, you've got to, like, put, I don't know what the hell you have. Put milk or something on it. It's like pepper spray.
Starting point is 00:43:37 Tomato juice or something. Tomato juice, yeah. You might have to go out with, like, the Andy Reed Shield. Agreed. I think you got to hit by that, too, man. If you're a human, you got to do the whole tomato juice thing, I think. Dude, you can't go into your own house. No.
Starting point is 00:43:52 No, that's the problem. You go in, that's the, that's the, like, your wife jammed you there because she told you to go get them. If you got sprayed, she'd say you're not allowed back in. Right. Which is like, well, you told me to go get the cats. Well, I was telling my wife to go get them and deal with the skunk. That was not an option, dude.
Starting point is 00:44:08 No, it's not an option, clearly. I think you should have, I guess, let the cats just sort it out. Feel it out, man. Feel it out. Like, what are you going to do? A third party isn't going to have. help like that skunk's weird man because i thought they just sprayed immediately on instinct dude me too i think it was like a younger one that wanted to play for some odd reason or wasn't
Starting point is 00:44:29 threatened it was the craziest scene i've ever it was outrageous man now the minute you approach you're going to get hit you right i was five feet from it because i had to to get my cat yeah that's scary because i don't know a dog owner that has not had to deal with that like everyone i know that sad has a dog has had the skunk thing like the dog finds it starts barking at it's probably a cat thing cat's not barking not loud right just go like yeah like the skunk gets gets startled because a big dog is barking at it and it sprays it and see you later maybe cats are immune to that kind of stuff maybe we just figured something out like maybe this is some big scientific breakthrough that we've just established
Starting point is 00:45:13 and maybe we should win some sort of award for this. You've got an award for this. Yeah. It's a breakthrough, science and history. I think it is. What's the big science award they give out? I don't know. What is it?
Starting point is 00:45:27 Pulitzer Prize? I don't think Pulitzer's literature, isn't it? The Nobel Peace Prize, though. I don't think we're even in the right race. We're not in the running for any of these awards. We're probably not. We can't even get the category. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Yeah, it's not Nobel Peace Prize. It can't be. It might be Nobel something, but it can't be a Peace Prize for a scientific breakthrough. Who knows what it is. We're probably not going to win. What did you say it was? Break, well, it's not that. JP's, JP has no idea what he's.
Starting point is 00:46:01 What a jam job. JP is trying to acknowledge, yes, he's trying to, like, get in my ear and tell me what it is. He's on Google. He's not even close to what he's suggesting. Anyway, unfortunately, we're probably. Probably not going to win that. All right, boys. Good stuff today.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Lots of action tonight. Lots of break down tomorrow. Football, baseball, hockey. We're going to know who the Jays play as of tomorrow. It's going to be a beautiful thing. Futures Day on Fanduel as well. We're going to be all over that tomorrow. We can't wait for it.
Starting point is 00:46:29 All right, great stuff. Everyone behind the scenes for helping out. We appreciate it. Everyone for tuning in today, TV, radio, podcast, web, and up on YouTube live. We're out of here. Enjoy your evenings. Enjoy the games tonight. We're back tomorrow at.
