Starting point is 00:00:30 This hour of overdrive is powered by Fanduil. Fanduil, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. All right, here we go, Overdrive, off and running. TSN 1050 on the TSN app, your home smart speaker, up on TSN2, Brian Hasey, O'Dog, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles, McClennan. It's going on. The Halloween music. The Halloween music.
Starting point is 00:00:53 I was going to start the show with a mask and wear a mask, but then, I don't know, you're not allowed to wear masks at schools and stuff like that now. There's nothing about there's nothing about Hallow. I'm all Jay's baseball. I don't care about Halloween is canceled, man. Yeah, the timing is tough.
Starting point is 00:01:12 The timing is tough. The weather is tough. It's the most miserable weather day of the year. Miserable weather. But I am so jacked up for this game tonight in Hazy Bee. I have, you know I think of stupid stuff. Right? Mm-hmm. I have a crazy stupid
Starting point is 00:01:28 hypothetical for you hazy b okay all right what do you have the jays tonight they win the world series and i thought you said that you didn't like when the owners get the trophy is that correct you think it's kind of stupid i don't have the biggest issue with it i would prefer the players got it you don't like i definitely would prefer the players to get it but it's history and tradition and that's the way it goes i don't lose sleep over that let's point put it that way. Let's say you went up to Tommy Verduch and you said, step aside, I'm going to give the World Championship World Series trophy to the person in the organization I think deserves it
Starting point is 00:02:15 the most. Who are you giving that trophy to, and I will see if we're aligned? Maybe you can pick a top three, say you're going to get it, and then you give it to him, and then you give it to him. me okay i like this what a hypothetical that is step aside verducci first of all verduci take a hike i'm taking over the whole operation for brian hayes on the 20 million americans watching saying what is happening up there Chevy guy presentation whole nine right Chevy guy i Chevy guy we need Chevy guy in the house right we do you know technology and stuff love if rick willie was in the
Starting point is 00:02:54 house tonight by the way before hang on a sec joe and j p before before we go to the first break, we're doing the whole Chevy guy interaction. I agree with you. I agree with you because there should be a, you know, what is it, a Chevy, Colorado or whatever on the field tonight and someone's going to win that thing. All right, number one is, I'm giving it to a player. I'm going to give it to a player. I'm going to Vladdy Grot Jr. I'm going to Vladie Jr. I've got one guy. I'm going to Vladdy. I will knock out my list here, Noonels, and then you can jump in. Vladie number one,
Starting point is 00:03:24 because Vladdy's sign as an international free agent, wasn't drafted, could have gone anywhere, chose the Blue Jays when he was 16 years old, and what his arrival led to them, I think ownership put money in, Shapiro Atkins doing what they've done so far, and he's had the greatest playoff run, maybe in the history of Toronto Sports. Like, I don't think that's hyperbole. I think it's the greatest run. You look at the stats, the numbers, eight home runs and 16 games. Everything he's done has been so money.
Starting point is 00:03:55 so I'm playing the role of Verduch I'm saying Vladdy come on up here you're picking that trophy up first all right that's number one number two Vladdy hand it to I know my flatty okay you guys want to jump in
Starting point is 00:04:09 you can go with your number one okay noodles you go ahead and then I'll explain my first pick Ross Atkins okay now we're having a party now we're getting into it early go ahead
Starting point is 00:04:26 this is a guy that has stood by and taken bullet after bullet and we believe in this team and we you know he's had the Shanahan and you know name a coach speech the Keith speech or or Calduba speech
Starting point is 00:04:41 I believe in these guys internal improvements all of that he's signed Vladdy he got he got he brought in all of these players that that we thought like who the hell is this guy who the hell is that guy all of a sudden it's worked. To me, the architect who has built this team gets the trophy first for me. And so if it's Atkins or Shapiro or Shapiro and Atkins, but is Atkins the guy who basically
Starting point is 00:05:08 has pulled the trigger on all of these moves, correct? Yes. I mean, it's, listen, Mark is at the top of everything. Shapiro as the president has his fingerprints on everything. But yeah, I mean, It's a two-headed monster, I would say. So it's a 1A and 1B. Those two get it because think of how much garbage they've gotten from us, from everybody, from the fan base and that. It's not working. Hey, we had, you know, start of this season we were like, man, can they get 82 wins? Can they do?
Starting point is 00:05:41 Like, they have taken a lot of bullets. Say, show A's on a plane up here, you know, who else is coming up here, taking big swings. And they've taken heat. they're one to win away from raising the trophy, I hand it to them. Okay, I like that, a package deal. You're going Mark and Ross. It's hard to argue with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:00 It's very hard to argue with that. The architects of this team, they've been here a long time. The whole team is they're doing. It's not, they didn't, you know, pick up where someone else left off. This is all their team. Everyone playing tonight is, is courtesy of Ross and Mark Shapiro. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I like that. That's number one for you. Oh, go ahead. I'm getting on that stage, and I'm saying, Mark and Ross, step aside. Laddie, step aside. George Springer, step aside. David Popkins. Let's have a chat.
Starting point is 00:06:38 The hitting coach is getting the trophy first. That would be unprecedented. I'm not kidding. I think what we witnessed last year. I'm not noodles. I don't think it's, no. it's like come on up pop you can just sit pop where are you do you not think it's valid hayes after what we saw these guys do and their approach and what
Starting point is 00:07:00 they do and their new identity and how they play and how they win i think it's warranted that the hitting coach gets the world series trophy man and then he could hand it to john schneider and then he can hand it to vladdie who then gives it to george springer i think that's a very That's not the direction I would go in. It's outside the box. It's outside the box thinking, yeah. But it is easily the best under the radar hiring that, again, I can recall. And I know I'm saying that all the time, greatest of all the time, best ever,
Starting point is 00:07:36 but you have to in a scenario like this. Popkins was hired, and forever the previous hitting coach, people were like, you've got to move on. You need to bring in someone different, please. And they go out there and get Popkins, and you're right. They've been the best-hitting team in baseball all year. Look at their approach in game five. That's him.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Go up there swinging. Look for this. Study it. He's probably going to throw heat at you. Be ready to swing. Schneider did it. Vladdy did it. The guy's a beast, too, man.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I've seen him down on the field. The guy, he looks like a linebacker. Like a stud. Yes. Stud, like a monster with tats. It looks like a football player. It comes back to who hired him. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Mark, you're right. Well, okay, where does John Snyder come into play? Like, this is such a, they haven't won yet, and we're talking about who's getting the Burducci trophy. Guys, I think it's okay to think. If you're a winner, if you're a winner, you think like this. You think ahead. Guys think ahead who's getting the cup. Who's getting the World Series trophy?
Starting point is 00:08:39 Like, Hayes, who did you say you're giving it? I'm going Vladdy won. Vladie 1. I think I'm going to go to the manager, too, because I think John Snyder, like as much, Ross and Mark, took a ton of heat ton of heat and that's what's going to happen over the course of a decade talk to anyone in management it doesn't matter where you are everyone at some point is going to get adulation and at other points they're going to get hit you know like that's just the nature of the job there mark chapar has been in baseball for 40 years he's he's immune to all this he understands it he gets it what was important was that he stuck to a plant and that he had belief and that
Starting point is 00:09:15 he convinced ownership to spend money and ownership deserves a ton of credit because they have spent money this is not really david versus goliath in terms of the the spreadsheet right this is not the dodgers versus the raise blue jays have been consistently a top 10 payroll for for years you know for years but i think you look at schneider what we keep hearing we heard it from bassett today and we've heard it from other players is that there is this camaraderie among the group that someone's got to establish that and i think you got to credit the manager for it you know The way he handles players, the way he gives them freedom when they deserve freedom, maybe the way he keeps them accountable when they need to be kept accountable.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I think he deserves a lot of credit. I think his attitude is approach. You know, he's always the same. Like, John Schneider's always the same. He doesn't waffle, man. He doesn't, you don't see different shades of John. He's kind of always on his toes and ready to go. Even when he butchered that game in Seattle, he was like, he didn't cave.
Starting point is 00:10:16 He didn't waver. He was just like, that's what we, that's what we're just. I trust it. and I'm going to do it again, watch, and guess where they are? That's where I was going to ask. Where was that mentality? Like, he's had to take bullets. You know, the little move, all of that type of stuff.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Like, you know, not everything's a perfect science. He doesn't bat a thousand, but he has been consistent. And we've dealt with him. Fantastic. Great interview, great guy, all of that. The one thing from the minute he's become the manager, what you see is what you get. He makes no apologies for it. I think he's a, you know, he's a smart guy, he gets it, he's a, you know, a player's manager, that type of stuff.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And he didn't have to win us over. How he's won people over is with his work and getting that group to play together. And be, if you call them misfits that came together and have formed a special bond, whatever it is, that group seems like they care about each other. Baseball is a very individualistic sport. They're like their own little brand. That is a team out there. Exactly. I think it helps.
Starting point is 00:11:23 It does help. I think that goes a long way, those intangibles. I think they go a long way. And honestly, you could go down the list. You could go 25, 30, 40 deep. But I think for me it'd be Vladdy Schneider and then, you know, the two executives for sure. Excuse me. So you're telling me Popkins is not in your top.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Popkins is high on my list. You know what? If you ask, I will say this. It's the hitting coach. There's a senior... Where's Donnie baseball out? There's a senior executive that just text us about this chat, how great it is. He can lean in and say, is Popkins in your...
Starting point is 00:12:00 Would you hand it to Popkins or would he be in the mix? I can't believe either of you. I don't have him in the mix. If you were... How many fans are going to be there tonight? 55,000? 50,000. Something like that. $45,000.
Starting point is 00:12:10 If you had quickly at the door as you're walking in saying, do you know who Popkins is yes or no to the fans but we're in the no we're experts we're experts sports people i'm asking you a question i think it's asking a lot to expect everyone to know who they need a household name but he's been very impactful he's been very impactful he's been very impactful and i wonder yeah i mean i i he behind the list i think you know pete walker's been the pitching coach for a long time they've navigated all through look at the lineups they've faced yankees mariners dodgers so you know everyone on the team Everyone in the organization deserves a ton of credit.
Starting point is 00:12:49 They've got to close for this to turn into reality. I'm going to say, I'm a bit concerned that, you know, like we started to show like this. Like, I get it, but I'm also. I told you guys, I have stupid ideas. And when they come to my head, I got to get them out. Listen, it's been a great chat. I just, like I say, I'm more on the conservative side going, let's see how this plays out first. You do not want the old running to the finish line, waving at people.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Right now. It blows past you. Exactly. No one wants that. You're walking it in and the guy blows by. How many times have you seen that? Like all I could think about when we had Ricky Romero on, was it yesterday Ricky was on it, is right now there are hats that are printed that say
Starting point is 00:13:33 Toronto Blue Jays, right? World Series champions. But there's also hats that say L.A. Dodgers, World Series champions, correct? There's bins. There's giant bins with champagne with ice on them somewhere in that building. One of those bins is going to end up in a third world country, and people will be wearing it and won't know the difference. You'll never see the other box ever again. It's immediately shipped out.
Starting point is 00:13:57 And what we've done is open the box already. I don't think anything we do or say is going to have an effect on the game tonight. But let me ask you this. Somewhat semi-seriously, if they win, do you think Brendan Little gets the Steve Smith treatment, like come on up early? I hope so. I remember Gretzky passed it to Smith and was like, that one's for you. I'm embarrassed. I never thought of that.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Do you think Little gets the Steve Smith? I think Popkins is such a good guy. He wouldn't accept it, and he would look and say, let's see. Let's see. He would. He might. He might. What a scene that would be.
Starting point is 00:14:35 The greatest thing, and I don't know if it would ever happen, if they win and it was little on the mound, like close it out or, you know, had an opportunity. It's almost fitting, noodles. That would be the, you know, cherry on top type of thing. But I don't even know. Who would be, is there a singular owner? Well, it's Rogers.
Starting point is 00:14:57 I mean, the company technically, but it'll be Edward Rogers. Edward Rogers, so is he going to be standing there? He gets the trophy. He'll be up there, absolutely. He was there when, after the ALCS, you know, he was up there doing the interviews. And I think he picked up the trophy. I don't think there's a super. in baseball that I can recall anyway.
Starting point is 00:15:16 He did. He picked it up and he called his shot. He said, these guys are going to bring it home. There you go. I love that comment. Yeah, I mean, you need that kind of Uber confidence, right? I wonder if he pops down the street to Scotia Bank. Apparently, they sold out the watch party at seven minutes.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Yeah. And I saw people online saying, where can I get secondary market? Could you imagine bidding secondary market on the watch party at Scotia Bank? But that's how jacked up people are and they want to be downtown. You know, I get it. I'll be down there. You know, I'm curious what it's going to look like. Because if they win tonight, I'm going to be in that stadium for at least two hours post-last pitch.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So I can't imagine the streets are still going crazy if I leave there two, two-and-a-half hours after the game ends, but anything's possible. And if it doesn't happen tonight, this is the luxury of obviously winning game five, you know, and coming home up three-two, is the desperate team is the Dodgers. They have to win tonight. And I would fully expect you get a great effort out of them, right? Like championship pedigree, they're flying up here. They're here tonight and tomorrow. It's not like you're dragging anyone back to L.A. You're here to play.
Starting point is 00:16:26 You got Yamamoto on the mound, Gosman on the mound. But what is a crazy development that was just established about 20 minutes ago is George Springer is playing tonight. Springer is D-Hing and leading off tonight. I love it. That to me is shocking. And, like, I'm a little bit surprised. I don't doubt he can do it.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Like, he's obviously been in the cages. He's obviously been hitting. I'm sure maybe he was there yesterday facing live pitching. Does feel like a bit of a gamble, though. Like, if he's not at 100%. I think he was all, I think he was contemplating the last game. Yeah, maybe he just tweaked something that wasn't that bad, and they gave in an extra game type of thing. And they won without him.
Starting point is 00:17:07 That was game three. Game three, he was out of the game. They played game four and five without him. they won. I think what you're doing is maybe that comes back to the manager going, hey, you know, we feel this might be a six or seven game series. Let's have you available for those and let's take our chances in games four and five, like you mentioned. So I wasn't surprised by that. It would, you know, if he's physically able to swing the bat and if they can do a little freezing or, you know, doping up whatever's needed, this is the World Series. Yeah. It would, it would
Starting point is 00:17:41 take a stampede of Buffalo's to keep that guy out of the line. That's the way I feel. I got a great appreciation for that. I really do. I have great appreciation for it. I think it sends a great message. Put it on the line. What else are you waiting for? You know, it's just a matter what he's going to look like, how comfortable he's going to be. I guess we'll find out, you know. It's just like Apollo Creed and Rocky on the beach, man, when he said there is no tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:05 But there is. There is. It's possible with an asterisk. There is tomorrow. tomorrow. Yes. Tomorrow it definitely applies. But Springer was the only guy
Starting point is 00:18:16 to get an extra base hit off Yamamoto in game two. They need more than that tonight. Like that goes without saying, you have to slug tonight. You're going to have to hit a bowl out of the park off him. And you know who's going to be a major factor? My boy Popkins, because he's going to have those guys dialed in.
Starting point is 00:18:33 They're going to go over video. They're going to see what Yamamoto did to them. And there's going to be a response. Okay. I hope. I think you're right. I have a five pack of reasons. I have a list.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Now, I'm reluctant to do this now because of what we just did for 15 minutes. I have the five reasons that Jays will win game six tonight. I love it. Yeah. And I think I've kind of figured this out. I can run them through you right now if you guys want. Sure. If you guys are jacked up.
Starting point is 00:19:04 All right. Here's the five reasons. I think the Jays will win tonight. number five is Popkins number it's not Popkins Popkins is not included in this All right Popkins he got his pop
Starting point is 00:19:18 Fine Number five is poking the bear And I hope there's no Translation in the clubhouse down there And down at the Rogers Center Number five is Otani looks like he's out of gas He looks like he's out of gas He was out of gas in game four and five
Starting point is 00:19:36 What scares me is the day off yesterday gives him a full day off, right? He can completely recalibrate. But you look at the last two games, that 18- inning marathon, then he had to pitch the next day, it's asking a lot out of the guy. You know, and he has been so great. The rest of the team offensively has not been. Like their numbers drop off completely without Otani,
Starting point is 00:19:57 and I think that was noticeable the last two games. If Shohei doesn't, you know, drive the bus, their offense has been sleepy, and it was the last two games. So Otani has been running out. of gas okay that's what i'm banking on for game six tonight so far what we've established 20 minutes into this program is this is going in the world series well otani is garbage and out of gas and there's a few more yet to be careful well number four this is just the true this i'm just number four game starts oh this is like four it's like saying hey oh he's got a shut out oh don't say that
Starting point is 00:20:35 why not you know it's it's you got to be honest about the situation It's all it is. Say shout out, and the guy cracks three dingers tonight. That's what worries me. I hear you. Go ahead. Is he a sleeping giant? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Could he come out charging? Of course. Could the Dodgers win the next two games? Of course they could. Like, all of that goes without saying. You know, you just, we're pre-gaming here. Okay. Number four, the defensive battle, and the Js, I don't believe they've registered an error in 10 straight playoff games.
Starting point is 00:21:04 And the Dodgers have been sloppy at times. Oh, yeah. The Oscar. This is, now I'm concerned, because we're literally just, you know what you're doing? You're taking the Blue J's, and you're literally given the kiss of death to the number. Zero J's errors, you just said. They haven't had an error. I believe in 10 straight games.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I know, but you. Oh, man. Okay, well, what do you want me to do for the next two hours? Sit here and light candles and smile? Like, what are we supposed to do? We're talking about the game. If someone asked me or ask any of us, you know, tell me why you think they can win tonight, this is what I'm going to tell them. It's not a guarantee.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I'm not saying it's a lock that they win. I could flip it the other way and give you five reasons why the Dodgers. You've got to come up with reasons. You're speaking facts. I'm being objective. I'm an objective journalist. But you are like, so now, hey, they haven't had an error in 10 games. So that's number four, which is fair.
Starting point is 00:21:56 That's a fact. The J has been better defensively. Yeah. Right. We could have left it at that. Tight-knit, you know, nervy game. Fundamentals, I think, are going to matter. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:06 And that's what I'm saying. I think the Jays fundamentally have been better than L.A. Number three, it's the second time seeing Yamamoto. Now, that applied to you savage, and we saw how it played out. But generally speaking, with baseball, the second time you get to see a guy, you pick up on something. This is where your boy Popkins comes into play, right? Popkins has seen them up close and personally. All these batters have seen them.
Starting point is 00:22:29 You're getting them at the second time. You know, which could it, I don't think it could be worse. I don't think than what we saw in Game 2 where he just had them completely baffled. He was so good, he was so dialed in,
Starting point is 00:22:42 it was so difficult for the Jays to figure him out. So second time facing Yamamoto at 3. Number two, Gossman's dialed in. It's all about Yamamoto tonight. Kevin Gosman gets to pitch too. And Gossman was really good in game 2. He's the longest standing member of the rotation,
Starting point is 00:23:00 and I think he's ready to rock tonight. Like he just seems like the kind of guy that will have the attitude. that splitter is going to be, you know, dropping off a table. I think he's got the right attitude. I think he's a top-step guy. He's going to be chomping at the bit to get out there. Gosman on the mound of two.
Starting point is 00:23:16 And number one, Vladie Guerrero Jr. I got Vladie continuing the magic of the last, you know, four or five weeks. Guy's been the hottest guy in the series. You know, he's two back-to-back home runs. Game four, game five. Every time he's up to bat, he's striking fear in the opponent. Vladiguro Jr. is a Blue Jay, and he's at number one. So there you go, positive vibes.
Starting point is 00:23:40 That is, positive vibes. I think you guys are trying to drag everything down, but I'm not going down to us. Oh, no, it's awesome. It's a great list. I think early on, though, they've got to have that inning that's like, it doesn't necessarily have to be a Vladdy Homer, Springer, Homer, but they need to jump out. They cannot let Yamamoto get into that rhythm where it's like you just get into a tailspin,
Starting point is 00:24:01 and you're just watching that guy dominate. They got to get them off balance early. Yes, that's fair. It is fair. You have to get to him and take your chances with who's coming in after him. If you could, you know, let me ask you this. Do they win if he comes out before the fifth? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:20 Well, yes, I think they're clearly a heavy favorite if that happens. His last two starts, he's gone nine. I know, but heavy favorite if that happens. It's just it's, I don't know if he goes nine tonight. I just don't feel that. He might. I mean, he's an unbelievable pitcher. He's human, though.
Starting point is 00:24:38 There's no guarantee, exactly. There's no guarantee that he's going to have 100 pitches and go through nine and give up two runs. Like, it's the best players in the world. Joey Yatani is the most unique freak of an athlete. They've gotten to him. Like, you know, who knows? Like, either side, their top players could have off nights. Maybe it's support staff that are the stars tonight.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Who knows? Like, that's the thing. The sleeping giant, yeah, Otani, maybe it's Moogie Betts. This guy's doubting himself. And he's due. Step into the, he keeps to have himself a night. No, absolutely. I mean, that's the beauty of projecting what could happen is it may be the obvious choice.
Starting point is 00:25:19 It may not be. It may be a bullpen game. It may be a shootout tonight. Right. You know, I'm anticipating a nervous energy tonight. Like, I would think there's going to be nerves. And I think there's just as many nerves with the blue. J's, if not more than there are with the Dodgers, which is crazy because L.A.'s down
Starting point is 00:25:36 three, two. But L.A.'s on the road. They won the World Series last year. They're kind of playing with house money. They have a guy on the mound that they trust. So the nerves probably will exist more with the Jays, you know, which I think puts more pressure on Gosman to have a clean start and puts pressure on someone to get on the board early and let everyone breathe.
Starting point is 00:25:57 And I look at possibly Springer with that first at bat, but certainly with Lottie coming up in the first inning. Like, Vladdy comes up, sets a tone. You don't have to hit a home run. Just have a really quality at bat. Okay, settle into the game. Let's see where it takes us. Keegan coming up in an hour from the dome ahead of game six tonight.
Starting point is 00:26:15 We've got more lists to get to. We've got Luke coming up. Owen Wilson with a winner last night. That was a big pick. Down to plus seven. Very, very good pick. Yeah, very good pick. Layup, but very good pick.
Starting point is 00:26:27 So we got you guys with more picks. Al's brother joining us with Pigs, and we're looking ahead of game six. The Leafs are in Philly tomorrow, and their lines are in a blender again today. And it sounds like Tanna will return to the lineup tomorrow as well. And Willie was some pretty blunt assessment on what has to happen to turn things around. Pretty obvious, but pretty blunt from Willie earlier today. We'll tell you about that as well. Overdrive continues.
Starting point is 00:26:53 TSN 1050 and on TSN2. Bail it in Friday is brought to you by Boston Pizza. Canada's favorite sports bar. Enjoy $15 lunch at BP where you get an entree of site and a drink and you'll get it all in 20 minutes or less. A fast lunch doesn't have to be fast food. See you for a $15 fast lunch at your local Boston pizza. Overdrive continues powered by Fanduel, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score. We're going to catch up with Luke in just a moment.
Starting point is 00:27:18 And we're excited to announce we're going to be seeing Luke in Winnipeg at the Great Cup. We're on our way out. The overdrive crew making our way to the peg. We're going to be out there for Thursday and Friday of Grey Cup Week at Boston Pizza's Polo Park location. Tickets is going to be free to reserve, and you get a Boston Pizza's events page, events. com, and there it is. Look at the boys, jacked up to be out there. November 13th and 14th, cannot wait.
Starting point is 00:27:48 We're going to be live Boston Pizza. That means noodles, you'll be right in your element. Oh, yeah. Right. Abnoxiously ordering everything on the menu. Great White North. But they have it out west. I knew you were going to say that.
Starting point is 00:27:59 They might have it in Winnipeg. Winnipeg's kind of central, but I guarantee you they have it there. Yeah, Winnipeg, I think they'll take care of us out there. We can't wait for it. So we'll find out, right? Playoffs are about to start, and we're going to find out who's in the big game, but we're going to be out there for the Thursday and Friday, and Luke's going to be out there too.
Starting point is 00:28:16 The whole TSN crew is going to be out, and I'm sure Luke is very excited to see the boys live from Boston Pizza in the Peg. Here he is joining us on the Maple Twitter hotline. What the When Wilson Is cooking Wilson No more Millie Vanilla
Starting point is 00:28:31 You get one win And all of a sudden You're a serious character We're back on track That's what we are We're just back on track What a fall last night What a Paul last night
Starting point is 00:28:40 Parks I can't wait to I can't wait for another weekend Yeah You gave me the option too I like how it was like a team deal You said you want to change it You want to go with those fraud fins Go ahead
Starting point is 00:28:52 But we just stuck with our game plan We stuck with the intelligent information and our gut instinct and we went forward with it. We definitely did in honesty parts. I just have a great feeling. I have a great feeling we're locked back in. All it took was one play
Starting point is 00:29:08 and we're just, we're back. Yeah, listen, it is positive mojo I'll grant you that. And I was kind of taken aback by the fact that Chris Greer, the GM of the Dolphins got fired today. Why him? Exactly. Like, we
Starting point is 00:29:24 keep talking about the coach and I know he's put the team together and he's been in the organization for a long, long time. But, you know, the GM, but not the coach. And what is this really going to do from Miami? If you're a Dolphins fan today, what's running through your mind? I think, you know, it's one of those things where maybe, you know, the owner there, Stephen Ross is like, okay, changing the coach. We don't have any one to really like interim-wise.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Let's probably address that in the office. season or GM, you can start formulating your roster right now. You know, whether, obviously not with the trade deadline, but the GM during the year has a lot of responsibility of looking at for a reason studying where we want to go, what we want to do, that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:30:10 I can't why the GM is the first domino to fall for sure. If you're a Dolphins fan, though, I think you watch last night's game and you think to yourself, how on earth is this team this bad? And the Ravens given their flowers, played well,
Starting point is 00:30:26 especially in that second half, Lamar was excellent. But there were some stuff in that first half. Like, the Dolphins should have been leading the game at the end of the first half, and they just can't get out of the way. And it's one thing after another. I mean, you get to the point two where you're missing 35-yard field goals. It's just when it rains the pores. The parts, you get rid of the GM.
Starting point is 00:30:46 The GM's clearly probably going to get rid of McDaniel, unless he's so in tight with the owner, which I have no idea if that's to be the case. but after that, like, what do you do with, like, Tua? Not just performance, but the stupid press conferences, like, where is his standing in the NFL right now? So that's the one where I think if you get rid of this whole staff, you need to address the Tua situation because maybe it's one of those things where
Starting point is 00:31:14 if you get a new coach, fresh voice, different offense, you can understand it. Like, if you're the new GM, because you're stuck in Tua in the contract, To me, you really evaluate Tua's entire pass, and part of that means you've got to go and talk to college coaches, guys that have been with him, when he had success, what he likes doing, what he doesn't like doing, and just that's how you make your coaching decision. Because, like you said, that amount of money, that position, where you drafted him, how you invested in him, you've got to get this guy back on track. And he has moments. Like, there were moments yesterday were like, wow, Tua's looking good. He's slinging the ball pretty well. But there's also moments where, like, oh, my goodness, this is tough to want.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Well, and on the other side of it, Lamar returned, and he looked very comfortable, you know, based on the way I was kind of viewing him last night. It was kind of a breeze in the second half. But, you know, it's a long show. We talked about it yesterday. They're still chasing the division here. It's not easy. They have really done themselves a disservice the way they started this season. And to end up in the top seven in the conference is not going to be easy.
Starting point is 00:32:24 but we're you know after seeing lamar and presuming he's healthy the rest of the year how do you handicap the chances of them making the playoffs you know I think they're very fortunate it's crazy to say this but the afc north is one of the weakest divisions in football so that helps them again it's crazy because a couple years ago was the best division of football and you look at it now it's very very weak I don't think there's one great team in it Lamar in the second half yesterday looks special. So obviously
Starting point is 00:32:55 you're feeling pretty good if you're a Ravensand. But I'm not really ready to believe that this defense is great. And like the margin of error is really slim. They have a bit of a soft schedule upcoming, but they're probably going to need to win
Starting point is 00:33:10 10 games. And it's one of those things where if their defense plays an egg and Lamar isn't a special as he was last night, they're going to lose one they should win. And the next thing you know, that 10-win situation is going to be really, really tough. The first star, Al's brother. Al's brother.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Looking great. No bow-tie. I would have preferred bow-ties the rest of the season, personally. But it's all good after an immaculate week. And these guys got a lay-up last night, which I'm happy for them, Miles-brother. I'm happy they got themselves a win last night. well it's just nice to have a little competition you know like it it gets boring when there's no competition
Starting point is 00:33:54 and now they think they're back into it so we can have some more fun this weekend that's right we do one thing now al's brother we rely on something that you guys know nothing about gut instinct oh what's this gut instinct and there's another thing that we brought up we have both been in professional sports where the coach has said smarten up and get locked in you guys have never had anyone say that to you because you're losers. No one's had to say that this year. We've been locked in all year long. I know.
Starting point is 00:34:24 We're ready to go. But you've just never been on a sideline on a bench where somebody grabbed you and said, get locked in because you stink right now, and you respond. Me and my party will respond. Okay. You guys commit to that. Commit to that. Like you said, our coach is Don Schuller, man.
Starting point is 00:34:41 We don't lose, right? Don just sits there, puts his feet up and goes, man, you guys are unreal. Seventy two dolphins. Your coach is Dugie Patel. That's your coach. Duggy Patel. All right, Alasbrother. I got to say this, right?
Starting point is 00:34:55 Go ahead. I got to say this. You can't win the game in the first quarter. We can't win the game in the second quarter. We start this week down eight. If we get out of this thing down six, we're well on the way. Anything other than that is bonus. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:08 You can't win the game this week. But as long as we can start chipping away, we'll be fine. Okay. That's it. All right. All right, they're feeding off their history. We'll feed off our history else, brother. Colts Steelers, Colts laying three at Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Where is your head out with this game? I mean, we know where my head's at here as a true Colts fan, card-carrying Colts fan. I've been elated with the season that the Indianapolis Colts have had, and they've just been laying beat downs on teams week after week. Their legitimately average win margin is nearly two touchdowns. They're average wind margins. So you look at a score here, and you're looking at a field goal. Yes, it's against a decent team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that defense is awful.
Starting point is 00:35:56 And we're talking about the number one offense in the NFL led by Indiana Jones and Luke Wilson's League MVP, apparently, and Jonathan Taylor. I think they're going to continue to put up numbers this week parts. I think the Colts ride again the road favorites, but I think that they get it done. Right. And I mean, it's a massive – it's a lot of respect when you're a road. favorite in the NFL, but it does feel like this line, I'm almost surprised it's not
Starting point is 00:36:20 four, four and a half, you know, towards Indianapolis. By kickoff, won't be surprised if that flips at least to get the hook because at three, very comfortable. I think we lock it in before it does, you know, before Dougie Patel calls in, you know, a favor from someone and says, make this three and a half. I'm with you, I'm on
Starting point is 00:36:36 Indianapolis. Like Pittsburgh, they had a decent start, not great. Look what happened in the second half last week. That's a really good Green Bay team. They completely dismantled them in Pittsburgh. So, lock it in colts minus three done all right moving on all right you guys have got the game of the year
Starting point is 00:36:53 game of the year not the game of year we're got it chiefs we have this discussion chiefs bills go ahead who do you like chiefs minus one and a half favorites in buffalo yeah so we're going to ride over your head is at but go ahead yes we're going to ride with that and oliver's obviously not playing you got rishi rice back a couple weeks ago
Starting point is 00:37:12 but holmes looks like the MVP there's no way We're taking the bills in this situation. Josh Allen, in order to cover the spread, is going to have to play out of his mind. What you can do. But we like fundamentals around here. We like fundamental football. We like good football.
Starting point is 00:37:28 We like the better team, which right now is the Kansas City Chiefs. We're riding with Mahomes all day. Spaggill jam up Josh Allen at one point, and we're going to get this spread right here. We're going to cover it. I love being on Allen and the bills here. So do I. You know the Chiefs are back. You know the chiefs are back.
Starting point is 00:37:47 You know the chiefs are back and they're doing chief like things. Yeah. This is, week one, Ravens Under the Light Sunday night's the same thing. Ravens have failed. At the beginning of the year, you were like, the chiefs, I don't even know if they're going to make the point. I love Josh Allen on Sunday, man. I love him in that 4 p.m. What's the forecast of the weather there, though?
Starting point is 00:38:05 Sunny and decent. Alan. I'll bet you a side 500 on this. Okay. I'll take a money line. I don't even need the points. I got bills. Money line.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Straight up, $500? Yeah, why not? I'm playing with free money because I got the penguins, I got the penguins bet that I'm already spending. I'm already spending that. I don't know. I'll beat Minnesota four or one last night. Minnesota stinks.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Ever since Caprice, I've got that money, it's, they're nothing. Minnesota doesn't count either. Go ahead, Al's brother. Well, the thing is that the bills are built to beat Kansas City. Like, they've legitimately built this team over the last two, three years. Whenever they're adding pieces, subtracting pieces, it's with one goal in mind, and that's to beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:38:45 They've had a lot of success in the regular season when it comes to beating KC. And last I checked, we're still in October, right? It's not the new year, it's not the playoffs, and the bills in the regular season roll on the Chiefs. And they got their offense going last week. I think they continue. They figured some stuff out. I think the bills have a good shot to upset the Chiefs here at home. Love it.
Starting point is 00:39:05 James Cook will cook. He will cook this weekend. Oh, yeah. All right. Seahawks at Commanders Sunday night. Isle's brother? Where's your head out? yeah you know what this one seems pretty easy to me again just like the colts you got the favored by a field goal as the road favorites but the Seahawks are just the much better team you know they travel well the three no on the road this year they've won five of the last six games they're five and one against the spread in that stretch as well so they're playing up to expectation and we look at this commander's team defensively they just stink and that's where Seattle can really take advantage that passing attack is pretty solid this year
Starting point is 00:39:44 And that commander's defense, they're allowing the most yards per completion in the NFL this year. Quarterbacks have 106 QB rating this season against them. So I think they'll be able to pass the ball. The commanders, they have to run the ball to have success. And you look at the defense of the Seattle Seahawks, number one rush D in the NFL, allowing just 3.3 yards per carry. So if they shut down the run, you've got to have a hobbled Jane Daniels make plays to keep up with that passing attack. I just don't see it happening, fellas. I like the Hawks by a field goal on the road.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Yeah, okay, I'm with you on that. I'm with you. We're on Dan Quinn, baby. Dan Quinn. We're on Dan Quinn. Come on, dude. I hate to kind of go against you, but you got to like the pick. I mean, I know you like to pump up his hat backwards, but it's the right pick.
Starting point is 00:40:32 He loves Seattle. You know, Luke, no Seattle's winning this game. He knows it. No, cut. Three points, parts. Dan Quinn, as you saw last week, they got blown up with Mary. Toyota, they're trying hard. This has once again a situation
Starting point is 00:40:47 where they're down nine and Devo Samuel stampers in with six seconds left to cut the lead to do. Just the most desperate covers every week. A backdoor sneaky six second left cover. All over it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:41:03 That's why they're down a touchdown, Hasey. That's right. That's why they're down a touchdown. Dan Quinn teams don't quit parts. I'm going to text that to the group. Dan Quinn teams don't quit. There's that head coach you guys I'll put my hat on backwards tonight parts I'll put my hat on backwards
Starting point is 00:41:20 Well, listen Alice Brother and I are going to float this out for you guys too I think I think we've done this in the past We'll do it this year The Great Cup will be included in these picks And we're going to be out there at the Boston Man said Polo Park The Polo Park location Luke
Starting point is 00:41:32 And you're going to be with us a couple I think both days you pop in And you guys we'll even let you make the pick There you go Alice Brother and I were so charitable You guys can make the Great Cup pick All right love it beautiful all right buddy
Starting point is 00:41:46 we'll do it again early next week all right guys there he is talk soon Luke Wilson Al's brother great seeing you as always we'll catch you guys on the go Hawks Go Hawks
Starting point is 00:41:54 Go Hawks there he is Al's brother yeah we're jacked we're going out to the great cup can't wait in the peg the jets are on the road jets will be on the road but we'll see
Starting point is 00:42:05 we don't know who's going to be in the big dance yet but the boys are going to be out there we're looking forward to it all right we've got Keegan coming up from the dome he'll join us in about 40 minutes on George Springer playing tonight. He's back in the lineup, D-Hing.
Starting point is 00:42:17 He's hitting lead off this evening. How do they solve Yamamoto? What do you expect out of Otani and the Dodgers? Lots to get into with Keegan. Noodles, you've got your mood meter list too, right? You're up for the Canadian coaches. Yep, I got it. There's a couple coaches that flipped last night.
Starting point is 00:42:31 Ottawa Storms Back wins in OT. Edmonton hands away a point to the Rangers. I'm intrigued to see where this is going. So noodles is on the clock with that. We'll get to that as well. Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN2. All right, mail it on Friday, brought to you by Boston Pizza, Canada's favorite sports bar.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Enjoy $15 lunch at BP where you get an entree aside and a drink and you'll get it all in 20 minutes or less. So fast lunch doesn't have to be fast food. See you for a $15 fast lunch of your local Boston pizza. Kegan coming up from the park ahead of game six tonight. And noodles is going to have his mood meter list. We'll get to that. The Leafs are back in action in Philly tomorrow. Philly's been off to a good start.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Philly's been winning games and better than expected. I know you always hate on them too, Hazy B. You're like just Philly is just irrelevant again. They're not. Well, if you look, they went in the offseason, they got a goalie. Ladar, who's played well for them.
Starting point is 00:43:27 He's in top five. Zegris has had a nice start. Like, for me, I've watched him where he's been completely invisible. Oh, I sent you a note about it. And then after that, he's just been scoring and setting people up and stuff. So he looks like he's starting to settle in.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Jamie, I watched one game where I'm like, that guy's completely clueless, and then he had two of the most important plays in the game in the second half, and they won the hockey game. Might have been the day we were talking. Yeah, we were texting. I'm like, I haven't even seen this Zegra's, and then all of a sudden he had that one unbelievable pass. Yes, and then he had a goal, I think.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Yeah, he did. So, I mean, listen, you can't go in there and sleep on them. The leaf should go in and be pissed the way that they played and try and go get two points of them. We'll leave supplant right now. They have no right to go in there with an ounce of arrogance. Right. You know, they need to be the most desperate team in the league.
Starting point is 00:44:19 That's what they should be. When you have high expectations and you've started the way you've started, and Willie's still a game time decision. We don't know if he's going to play for sure, but they had Willie with Matthews and Knives again on that top line. At practice today, we'll see if it continues tomorrow. Tanev has been cleared. He should return.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Stolaris is in net. And Stollos has got to have a good. game, too. Like Stolar's ever since, you know, he wasn't happy. He hasn't played well. Like, his numbers are not good. No. They're not good.
Starting point is 00:44:48 You don't have to be the best goal in the world. No one's expecting that. But you've got to be, you got to make stops. You know, you've got to put your team in a position to win. And they've got to, they just got to stop with the goofy, like egregious mistakes. Yeah, the five on ones, four on twos, the non-sending. And that you can clean that up. Like, you can clean that.
Starting point is 00:45:07 That's inexcusable in the NHL. They'll be hand in over odd man rush after odd man rush when you're such a veteran team. I get it, but it's been going on every game. It gets to a point where, like, can you stop it or do you need different personnel to go out there? But we all know the deal in the NHL. You can't change personnel like that. You can't snap your fingers. You're basically riding with what you got, which is scary.
Starting point is 00:45:32 And a lot of it is your goaltender can mask that, right? Make a big save here or there. All of a sudden you're not talking about that five-on-one or talking about a, two on one or a bad chance or something like that but right now they haven't had that they've got to be better that is a big part of it the goal he can save you well their goals against the team save or it's 28th in the league yeah it's not good that's they have not had a good top five last year so yeah it's a big difference it's a big part of it all right more on this into the next hour we'll get to a little deer hazy b with Halloween and the game going on
Starting point is 00:46:05 tonight what could be expected throughout the weekend and after being so optimistic and so positive, maybe we need to be negative to spin everyone back in the next hour because we're getting crushed that if the Js don't win, it's our fault. No way. I think, yeah, we're optimistic guys. We've always been positive. Dave Hopkins. World Series trophy.
Starting point is 00:46:25 There you go. Shout out. Hour 2 of next Overdrive continues. TSN 1050 and on TSN2. You've been listening to Overdrive, powered by Fandul.
